- Lucas: Welcome back to another episode of Learn Finnish with Fexingo. Luna: Hi everyone! I am so ready to get back into the kitchen with you today. Lucas: We have been doing a lot of cooking lately, haven't we? Luna: We really have. We chopped, we peeled, we grated cheese, and we even shaped some dough. Lucas: And we measured everything perfectly in the last few episodes. Luna: Exactly. But now I feel like we need to actually mix it all together. Lucas: That is exactly right. Today we are going to focus on the mixing phase. Luna: Mixing sounds easy enough. What are we making? Lucas: Let's imagine we are making a sweet cake batter. Luna: Oh, I love baking. Okay, let's start with the first step. Lucas: The very first thing you usually do with a cake is beat the eggs. Luna: Right. So how do I say 'I whisk the eggs' in Finnish? Lucas: You would say Vaahtoitan munat. Luna: Vaahtoitan munat. Lucas: Perfect. Let's try that again slowly. Lucas: Vaahtoitan munat. Luna: Vaahtoitan munat. Lucas: Good. Now, once the eggs are foamy, you add your dry ingredients. Luna: Okay, so then I mix the dough or batter. Lucas: Yes. In Finnish, you say Sekoitan taikinan. Luna: Sekoitan taikinan. Lucas: That is correct. Taikinan means of the dough or batter. Luna: Got it. Sekoitan taikinan. Lucas: Let's repeat it one more time to make sure it sticks. Lucas: Sekoitan taikinan. Luna: Sekoitan taikinan. Lucas: Wonderful. Now that the batter is mixed, it goes into the oven. Luna: This is my favorite part. How do I say 'I put it in the oven'? Lucas: You say Laitan uuniin. Luna: Laitan uuniin. Lucas: Yes. Uuniin means into the oven. Luna: Laitan uuniin. Lucas: Let's do it together slowly. Lucas: Laitan uuniin. Luna: Laitan uuniin. Lucas: Great job. While it bakes, there is one important rule. Luna: Don't open the oven door? That is always hard for me. Lucas: Exactly. You want to let it cool down completely before eating. Luna: So how do I say 'Let it cool'? Lucas: You say Anna jäähtyä. Luna: Anna jäähtyä. Lucas: Very good. Jäähtyä means to cool down. Luna: Anna jäähtyä. Lucas: Let's try it again. Lucas: Anna jäähtyä. Luna: Anna jäähtyä. Lucas: Finally, when it is done, you taste it. Luna: Of course. And if it tastes sweet, what do I say? Lucas: You say Maku on makea. Luna: Maku on makea. Lucas: Maku means taste, and makea means sweet. Luna: Maku on makea. Lucas: One more time for practice. Lucas: Maku on makea. Luna: Maku on makea. Lucas: Excellent.
