- 0:10Speaker 1: Hello, this is Tom Kane, the voice of the professor
- 0:13Speaker 1: from The Powerpuff Girls, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown. Oh,
- 0:18Speaker 1: I love it so.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Oh, no. What if I don't get my official Red
- 0:21Speaker 2: Raider Carbine Action 200 Shot Rage Model Air Rifle?
- 0:26Speaker 3: It's showtime.
- 0:27Speaker 4: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:30Speaker 4: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:35Speaker 4: and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one.
- 0:40Speaker 5: Million kilowatts of power.
- 1:07Speaker 3: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:09Speaker 6: I'm Misty.
- 1:09Speaker 3: And I'm Jay.
- 1:09Speaker 6: You seem like you had to think about that way
- 1:10Speaker 6: too long. It's been a long day. Dramatic pause.
- 1:38Speaker 3: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:40Speaker 3: the passion of awesomeness.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Which is super, super duper messy right now because there
- 1:44Speaker 2: was a shelf expansion building project and I've not fully
- 1:48Speaker 2: recovered the replacing shit back to where it should be.
- 1:51Speaker 3: If you're not following Misty on Instagram, where she's documenting
- 1:55Speaker 3: these book buildings and the takeover of books to completely
- 1:59Speaker 3: crush this house eventually.
- 2:01Speaker 2: It's going to be the only thing to hold this
- 2:03Speaker 2: shelf up.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Just stacks of books holding the roof up.
- 2:07Speaker 2: It'll be the only thing that will totally support the
- 2:09Speaker 2: frame of this house.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Well, if anything, it'll shield us from the radiation from
- 2:13Speaker 5: the oncoming apocalypse.
- 2:14Speaker 3: Good times. So how's it going?
- 2:18Speaker 2: It's going. Same shit as last time, I think.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it hasn't been near as long this time.
- 2:23Speaker 2: And we've accomplished even less, because I don't think we've
- 2:25Speaker 2: watched anything. Aside from Boyfriend making me spend an evening
- 2:28Speaker 2: watching what we've discussed off-podcast, the safety frog thing.
- 2:32Speaker 5: Clyde's safety frog.
- 2:34Speaker 3: Which we've decided, because you found them on YouTube, doesn't
- 2:38Speaker 3: just exist in your mind. Yeah. And may have been regional,
- 2:42Speaker 3: and that's why nobody else around here knows what you're
- 2:44Speaker 3: talking about. Yeah.
- 2:45Speaker 5: Well, I didn't realize, yeah, that and New Zoo Review.
- 2:49Speaker 3: which is terrifying that i kind of like i remember
- 2:51Speaker 3: the owl for some reason so maybe it got picked
- 2:54Speaker 3: up on like public television and i saw just enough
- 2:58Speaker 3: to go oh no this looks educational and i changed.
- 3:00Speaker 5: The channel the uh clyde safety frog uh it was
- 3:04Speaker 5: uh oh i had it up here and then i
- 3:07Speaker 5: looked up sport billy.
- 3:08Speaker 3: I was like Since we're on things that no one
- 3:13Speaker 3: else remembers from childhood.
- 3:14Speaker 5: It's called The Clyde Frog Show. It was a television
- 3:17Speaker 5: program in the 1970s. It was produced by the Mississippi
- 3:19Speaker 5: Authority for Educational Television. And it just had a frog puppet.
- 3:25Speaker 5: And he just got hurt all the time. And he
- 3:29Speaker 5: didn't follow the safety rules. So he wasn't much of
- 3:31Speaker 5: a safety frog because he was always getting hurt or kidnapped.
- 3:33Speaker 2: He's showing you what not to do.
- 3:35Speaker 5: Or getting set on fire or stuff like that. You
- 3:38Speaker 5: can look it up on YouTube. It's kind of disturbing.
- 3:41Speaker 3: It's a little bit just, the really weird part is the, like,
- 3:45Speaker 3: dead time.
- 3:46Speaker 5: Yeah, there's a lot of dead time.
- 3:47Speaker 3: When he just, like, turns and, like, looks at you
- 3:49Speaker 3: for a second. Like, he's trying to remember his lines. Like,
- 3:51Speaker 3: you know you're a puppet, right? You don't have to.
- 3:53Speaker 5: Remember your lines.
- 3:54Speaker 3: But he just oddly stares at you at home.
- 3:57Speaker 5: The acting's really bad. It's really bad. And it's just
- 4:01Speaker 5: normal people trying to act.
- 4:02Speaker 2: What do you expect from a hand puppet from, like, Mississippi.
- 4:06Speaker 5: In the fucking 70s? Public access, actually. I'm amazed that
- 4:11Speaker 5: I remembered this because I was probably maybe two or
- 4:13Speaker 5: three years old around the time when it came out.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Apparently you were following his rules because you apparently get
- 4:21Speaker 2: hurt a lot.
- 4:23Speaker 3: You wanted to be just like Clark.
- 4:25Speaker 5: I do get hurt a lot.
- 4:26Speaker 3: Wait, so this is how you do it, right? You
- 4:27Speaker 3: set yourself on fire and then you fall off of stuff. Alright,
- 4:30Speaker 3: this frog knows what he's talking about.
- 4:32Speaker 2: Have you gotten kidnapped yet?
- 4:34Speaker 3: Uh, no.
- 4:37Speaker 5: No, I haven't.
- 4:38Speaker 3: You gotta be pretty stupid to go hitchhiking, kid. That
- 4:42Speaker 3: was the loving way that he was treated.
- 4:44Speaker 5: I've probably come close to getting killed by a serial killer, though,
- 4:47Speaker 5: but no, I haven't.
- 4:49Speaker 2: By a serial killer named Clyde.
- 4:50Speaker 5: Yeah, you know what? Damn it.
- 4:55Speaker 3: You've gotta really be old school to get that reference.
- 4:58Speaker 5: Wow, okay.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Brought it full circle. Yeah.
- 5:03Speaker 3: That should have tipped you off when you moved in. Yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 3: you know. And he was a giant frog. It really
- 5:08Speaker 3: should have tipped you off.
- 5:09Speaker 5: Damn frogs.
- 5:11Speaker 3: Well, I have to say, as you showed it to me,
- 5:13Speaker 3: there's a scene at the beginning there where he's riding
- 5:15Speaker 3: a bike, and I'm like, you're no Kermit, let me
- 5:18Speaker 3: just tell you. I've seen Kermit ride a Schwinn. Kermit's
- 5:21Speaker 3: pretty damn good. Clyde... He just falls off shit.
- 5:26Speaker 5: And gets in trouble.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Good times or not.
- 5:29Speaker 5: It's such a weird show that, like, It was burned
- 5:33Speaker 5: in my head. Like the theme song, the whole, what
- 5:39Speaker 5: do you call it?
- 5:41Speaker 3: The beginning of it. Intro. The intro, yeah.
- 5:43Speaker 5: The whole intro. That whole thing was burned in my head.
- 5:46Speaker 5: It's been burned in my head for a long time,
- 5:48Speaker 5: and I don't know why, you know, fucking 40-some years later,
- 5:54Speaker 5: we were sitting here on the couch, and I'm like,
- 5:57Speaker 5: Clyde Safety Frog. Oh, you got to see this.
- 6:00Speaker 3: And you're like, do I need to get a dog?
- 6:02Speaker 5: Is it on YouTube? Holy shit, it's on YouTube.
- 6:05Speaker 2: And I watched way more Clyde the Safety Frog than
- 6:08Speaker 2: I'd ever thought I'd ever read it.
- 6:09Speaker 5: We watched like probably all the episodes. They only last
- 6:12Speaker 5: like five minutes. And I think what it was is
- 6:15Speaker 5: I think it came on.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Like when they had filler in between stuff?
- 6:20Speaker 5: Uh, it was one of those, I think it came
- 6:22Speaker 5: on at the end, like towards the end of a show.
- 6:24Speaker 5: Like you remember when they, uh, what was that show? Three, two,
- 6:27Speaker 5: one contact where they used to have that, that, uh, ending.
- 6:32Speaker 5: They had the bloodhound gang, I think it was called.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 5: And it was only like maybe at maybe a 10
- 6:38Speaker 5: minute little mystery or five minute mystery that they had
- 6:40Speaker 5: to solve. It was kind of like that. I think
- 6:43Speaker 5: it fell at the end of a TV show and
- 6:45Speaker 5: just kind of, yeah. Anybody remember the bloodhound gang?
- 6:47Speaker 3: Not, not, not the, not the awesome band, not the band.
- 6:52Speaker 5: Whatever.
- 6:52Speaker 3: It was way more catchy. And, and they, they, they
- 6:56Speaker 3: should have been like a novelty act that went away.
- 6:59Speaker 3: And then a few years later, well, finally, but like
- 7:02Speaker 3: for a while, they're like, they kept coming back with
- 7:04Speaker 3: another album. I'd be like, uh, these guys again. And
- 7:07Speaker 3: then I'd hear the song and be like, damn, that's
- 7:09Speaker 3: pretty good.
- 7:09Speaker 5: Actually.
- 7:10Speaker 3: I'm like, why, why, why can't I just write you
- 7:12Speaker 3: guys off? You're, you're, About as juvenile as.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Well, their song with the roof is on fire. That
- 7:19Speaker 2: came out when I was in, I think, high school
- 7:21Speaker 2: because one of the guys I went to school with,
- 7:23Speaker 2: his house literally did catch on fire, so he would
- 7:26Speaker 2: go around singing that song all the time.
- 7:28Speaker 3: You didn't taunt him with it? I assumed that's where
- 7:30Speaker 3: this story was going.
- 7:31Speaker 2: He took it on his own. It became his song. Yeah,
- 7:35Speaker 2: it was his theme song for the year.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:38Speaker 2: The times were not had by him.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Yeah, all of these PBS shows are just very minimal
- 7:45Speaker 3: in my childhood brain and or memories. Because, as I
- 7:50Speaker 3: was telling you before, anything from a really early age,
- 7:54Speaker 3: my brain immediately went, oh, this looks educational. Nope. I
- 7:58Speaker 3: just knew to steer clear of anything that might teach
- 8:02Speaker 3: me something. So everybody else that has warm, fuzzy feelings
- 8:06Speaker 3: about Sesame Street and all of that stuff as a kid,
- 8:09Speaker 3: and even Mr. Rogers and stuff, I didn't dislike him.
- 8:12Speaker 3: You better not be disrespecting Mr.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Rogers in this household.
- 8:15Speaker 3: I respect him now, but as a kid, I didn't
- 8:17Speaker 3: watch him much because I was like, this looks like
- 8:19Speaker 3: it's for kids. I'm obviously way too mature for this,
- 8:23Speaker 3: and I would go watch Looney Tunes. Again, I immediately
- 8:26Speaker 3: went to something that was not in any way, shape,
- 8:29Speaker 3: or form educational. which is also why to this day
- 8:31Speaker 3: when I walk off a cliff, I'm assuming I'm not
- 8:33Speaker 3: going anywhere until I look down.
- 8:35Speaker 5: See, I grew up in an Asian household, so everything
- 8:38Speaker 5: was educational.
- 8:39Speaker 3: Damn it, you're going to learn whether you like it
- 8:41Speaker 3: or not.
- 8:41Speaker 5: Yeah, well, I wasn't really allowed to watch cartoons either,
- 8:44Speaker 5: whereas my dad, he was American, but he hated cartoons.
- 8:51Speaker 5: He hated anything fun. Blasphemy. Anything dealing with cartoons or anything,
- 8:57Speaker 5: I was not allowed to watch. So we were not
- 8:59Speaker 5: allowed to watch that in the house. It was educational
- 9:01Speaker 5: stuff all the time.
- 9:02Speaker 2: Screw all that.
- 9:03Speaker 3: I was raised by the television.
- 9:04Speaker 5: Yeah, I wasn't.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I was raised by Bob Ross and Mr. Rogers.
- 9:10Speaker 3: See, those are good. Now, again, I respect both of them.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I didn't see Bob Ross until I was older, I guess.
- 9:15Speaker 2: Oh, no, I grew up on that shit.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Yeah, but then, yeah, any of the educational stuff, like
- 9:20Speaker 3: as a kid, I was just like, whatever, this is
- 9:22Speaker 3: for kids. I don't think so. I'm going to go
- 9:24Speaker 3: watch something really smart like Gilligan's Island today.
- 9:27Speaker 2: Hey, because Marianne was hot.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Because Marianne was hot. Even as a kid, I knew.
- 9:30Speaker 5: I did watch Gilligan's Island. We watched TV shows. But
- 9:33Speaker 5: you didn't watch the cartoon, though. Was there a Gilligan's
- 9:36Speaker 5: Island cartoon?
- 9:36Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure there was.
- 9:37Speaker 3: Gilligan's Planet, definitely. I don't remember if there was a
- 9:40Speaker 3: regular island, but they definitely went to space when they
- 9:43Speaker 3: got animated.
- 9:43Speaker 5: No Scooby-Doo for you? I didn't watch Scooby-Doo until I
- 9:47Speaker 5: got older.
- 9:48Speaker 2: How did you know to not trust the man next door?
- 9:50Speaker 2: I mean, because it's always who the bad guy is.
- 9:52Speaker 3: And the guy in the rubber mask. I don't know.
- 9:54Speaker 5: But I mean, we watched like.
- 9:55Speaker 2: But there was a guy next door who was in
- 9:56Speaker 2: a rubber mask.
- 9:57Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 9:58Speaker 2: You don't trust people.
- 9:59Speaker 5: I watched Emergency and Starsky and Hutch.
- 10:03Speaker 3: I did watch that. I thought the car was awesome.
- 10:06Speaker 5: TJ Hooker and Wonder Woman and Batman.
- 10:10Speaker 3: There's a lot of Batman in my job.
- 10:13Speaker 5: A lot of Batman. A lot of Wonder Woman. A
- 10:15Speaker 5: lot of $ 6 million man. A lot of $ 6 million woman.
- 10:18Speaker 2: I had She-Ra on Thundercats. I guess I had the
- 10:20Speaker 2: right era of cartoons.
- 10:23Speaker 5: All the Leonard Nimoy In Search Of. Yeah, which girlfriend
- 10:32Speaker 5: got me the entire set, but I haven't finished watching it.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Yeah, Misty, you caught that wave of the after-school syndication version,
- 10:41Speaker 3: because earlier we didn't have that. Like they played older stuff,
- 10:44Speaker 3: but even then it was mostly shows. Like I think
- 10:46Speaker 3: that's when I watched like Batman and stuff was when
- 10:48Speaker 3: I got home from school when I was really little.
- 10:50Speaker 3: And it was like that next wave when they bought
- 10:53Speaker 3: like the syndication rights and or they went immediately to syndication,
- 10:57Speaker 3: I think, for like He-Man and G.I. Joe and She-Ra
- 11:00Speaker 3: and Thundercats.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Remember when Saturday mornings were awesome?
- 11:03Speaker 3: You can't even explain that to kids now. Because first
- 11:05Speaker 3: of all, they wouldn't understand that you couldn't just watch
- 11:08Speaker 3: cartoons whenever the hell you wanted. You wouldn't have entire
- 11:10Speaker 3: networks playing nothing but cartoons 24-7. You'd have to backtrack
- 11:14Speaker 3: so much to explain that.
- 11:15Speaker 5: You only had so many hours of cartoons in the morning.
- 11:18Speaker 2: You had to watch what was actually just on.
- 11:20Speaker 5: Like I was saying, as far as not being able
- 11:23Speaker 5: to grow up in a household to watch cartoons, I
- 11:25Speaker 5: would have to sneak downstairs and turn on the TV.
- 11:29Speaker 5: And I don't know how many people remember the old
- 11:32Speaker 5: tube TVs, like the vacuum tube TVs, so when you
- 11:36Speaker 5: turned it on, it made a loud noise, like a
- 11:41Speaker 5: little bit of a pop, and then you had the crackling,
- 11:46Speaker 5: and the tubes would, they made kind of a hum
- 11:49Speaker 5: as they warmed up, and.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and.
- 11:55Speaker 2: And parents' ears were tuned to that sound.
- 11:56Speaker 3: Oh, they knew.
- 11:57Speaker 5: They knew. I would get up, like, I'd try to
- 12:00Speaker 5: get up and sneak down there, and they could hear it.
- 12:02Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 12:03Speaker 5: They could hear, you better not be down there watching cartoons.
- 12:06Speaker 3: I'm not.
- 12:07Speaker 2: Educational stuff.
- 12:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 12:09Speaker 3: See, once again, didn't care. And was glad that I was, like,
- 12:14Speaker 3: taking care of my own entertainment, because that meant they slept.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Because I would get up, like, because they started so
- 12:19Speaker 3: damn early. But again, you only had that run... Of, like,
- 12:23Speaker 3: Saturday morning cartoons rolling on for so long, one day,
- 12:26Speaker 3: and that's it.
- 12:26Speaker 5: And then it's wrestling.
- 12:27Speaker 3: So, like, they'd start them at, like, 5.30 or 6,
- 12:30Speaker 3: and I'd be like, all right, well, as soon as
- 12:32Speaker 3: I can get up, I gotta drag myself down there
- 12:33Speaker 3: and start watching cartoons. Yeah.
- 12:36Speaker 2: And Dukes of Hazzard. That's another one that was raised, though.
- 12:38Speaker 3: And I remember.
- 12:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I got to watch Dukes of Hazzard, because that
- 12:41Speaker 5: was a live-action show.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Hell yeah, it was. There was a lot of action
- 12:44Speaker 2: on there.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Yeah, Dukes of Hazzard.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Fucking A.
- 12:46Speaker 3: A lot of jumps. Mm-hmm. Boom.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Yeehaws.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Being a kid was awesome.
- 12:54Speaker 3: For me.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I don't think it kind of sucked for you.
- 12:56Speaker 5: It kind of sucked for me. That's okay. I get
- 13:00Speaker 5: to do all the shit I want to do now.
- 13:01Speaker 2: We can watch all the cartoons we want.
- 13:02Speaker 5: Watch all the cartoons. I ate a lot of junk food.
- 13:05Speaker 3: See, this is another one.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Ride my bike wherever I want.
- 13:07Speaker 3: You couldn't even explain now. But again, we were saying
- 13:11Speaker 3: there's only so many cartoons. But here was the thing.
- 13:14Speaker 3: First of all, you remember when it would be a
- 13:17Speaker 3: big deal because the new season was coming up. And
- 13:20Speaker 3: so they'd like change up the lineup of what, because again,
- 13:23Speaker 3: half those cartoons didn't last but a season most of
- 13:25Speaker 3: the time because they were all like, super novelty. It's
- 13:28Speaker 3: like whatever weird person they'd sign for a deal or
- 13:31Speaker 3: whatever was hot.
- 13:32Speaker 5: Jason the Wheeled Warrior.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Yeah, whatever was hot. Well, Gary Coleman's an angel cartoon.
- 13:37Speaker 3: I'm like, no, that's a real thing. He really was.
- 13:41Speaker 3: He played an angel.
- 13:41Speaker 2: And now he really is one.
- 13:45Speaker 3: But, it all comes full circle.
- 13:48Speaker 5: What was the Nintendo one? It was like Kid video
- 13:53Speaker 5: and something.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Now that I did. I watched that a lot. I
- 13:58Speaker 3: can't remember. There was a kid video but that one
- 14:01Speaker 3: was super impressive because that one must have come a
- 14:04Speaker 3: little closer into the full on 80s 80s because it
- 14:08Speaker 3: also came with videos. The animated part was the bulk
- 14:12Speaker 3: of the show but at the end the band that
- 14:15Speaker 3: was the four dorks that they based the drawings on
- 14:18Speaker 3: had a music video and they actually had songs. And
- 14:21Speaker 3: then I was.
- 14:22Speaker 5: Maybe I'm thinking Captain N.
- 14:24Speaker 3: Yeah, because that one was not Nintendo related. It was
- 14:27Speaker 3: more music video.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Oh, okay.
- 14:29Speaker 5: I was just thinking video.
- 14:30Speaker 3: They were trying to tap into the music video geeks.
- 14:34Speaker 3: And I think I was enough that I'm like, I
- 14:35Speaker 3: like this band. So I was recording the songs on
- 14:38Speaker 3: my open air tape recorder that I sat next to
- 14:42Speaker 3: the TV.
- 14:42Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm super cool.
- 14:44Speaker 3: But the, no, the thing that I was like, cause
- 14:46Speaker 3: now I'll go back and find like ancient comic books
- 14:49Speaker 3: that I had at the time.
- 14:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Like the back page would be like the lineup for
- 14:52Speaker 3: this coming fall. Look at the new lineup.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Of the cartoons.
- 14:55Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 14:56Speaker 2: When I was a kid, I never realized there were
- 14:57Speaker 2: seasons of anything.
- 14:58Speaker 3: It was. Yeah.
- 14:59Speaker 5: You don't know.
- 15:00Speaker 3: You really don't at the time. I just remember it
- 15:01Speaker 3: was like a big deal because they would switch out
- 15:03Speaker 3: to new cartoons. So I didn't. probably fully understand why
- 15:07Speaker 3: now I know it's like oh it was a new.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Season and they axed all those old ones just new
- 15:11Speaker 5: shit would be on and I'd be like where's my
- 15:13Speaker 5: old stuff yeah where's the thing I like.
- 15:14Speaker 3: But I was gonna say the thing that was the
- 15:16Speaker 3: most like they would do that they would do the
- 15:18Speaker 3: comic book lineup and then they would do like one
- 15:21Speaker 3: of at least one of the channels would do that
- 15:22Speaker 3: like prime time show that would tell you what the
- 15:26Speaker 3: new cartoons were going to be this season. It might
- 15:30Speaker 3: have been ABC. One of them every year, like an
- 15:34Speaker 3: 8 o'clock spot, they would clear out just to do the,
- 15:37Speaker 3: here's the new cartoons for the season. And they would
- 15:40Speaker 3: have special guest stars on because I just watched one
- 15:43Speaker 3: of those on YouTube. I don't remember this. Well, it
- 15:46Speaker 3: had I think it actually must have had Anthony Daniels.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Their special guests were R2 and 3PO. And they came
- 15:54Speaker 3: on to introduce the new cartoons for the season or something.
- 15:58Speaker 3: So yeah, I was like, I kind of forgot about
- 16:00Speaker 3: those until I saw that clip. I was like, oh yeah,
- 16:02Speaker 3: they did that every year. But that was the thing.
- 16:04Speaker 3: You had to pick out what you wanted to watch.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Because guess what, kids? You didn't have a TiVo. You
- 16:10Speaker 3: didn't have digital cable that you could take three things
- 16:14Speaker 3: at once. You didn't even have a VCR that you
- 16:17Speaker 3: could change. You had to pick a thing. Cause all
- 16:21Speaker 3: three networks, I said three, we had three channels and
- 16:24Speaker 3: kind of a fourth one, but they didn't play anything good.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Certainly not back that far. So yeah, you would have
- 16:29Speaker 3: three options. And then like, if two things that both
- 16:32Speaker 3: sounded cool around the same time, you're screwed. You just
- 16:34Speaker 3: had to pick one and, and lose out on the
- 16:37Speaker 3: other one. And you never see it again. I hope
- 16:39Speaker 3: you're happy.
- 16:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:41Speaker 3: These are horror stories for you kids.
- 16:43Speaker 5: I'm trying to remember if, uh, if Godzilla came on
- 16:47Speaker 5: fairly regularly. Cause I remember as a kid, um, I
- 16:51Speaker 5: watched a lot of Godzilla.
- 16:52Speaker 3: Like the movies or the animated stuff?
- 16:54Speaker 5: No, not animated. Like live action.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:57Speaker 3: See, that was 41, I think. They got like a
- 17:00Speaker 3: deal or something like every Sunday, I feel like.
- 17:03Speaker 5: So I watched a lot of Godzilla. I watched a
- 17:05Speaker 5: lot of Ultraman.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Yep.
- 17:07Speaker 5: And a lot of Kung Fu Theater. So that's earliest memories.
- 17:10Speaker 3: I think, yeah, it was either Saturday or Sunday. Yeah,
- 17:11Speaker 3: they devoted. That's when 41 actually came in handy. They
- 17:14Speaker 3: didn't have any of the first run stuff because they
- 17:16Speaker 3: were a local before Fort Network was even a thing.
- 17:21Speaker 3: They were just a local channel, but they did pick
- 17:24Speaker 3: up the cool stuff like that, that now when I
- 17:26Speaker 3: look back, I'm like, oh, those are my favorite things.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Like all the stuff that was on network came and
- 17:30Speaker 3: went and nobody cares. But like now I think back,
- 17:32Speaker 3: I'm like, oh yeah, I was watching Batman on that
- 17:34Speaker 3: show or channel. I was watching Godzilla on that channel.
- 17:37Speaker 5: Do they, do you remember them, uh, the gas stations
- 17:41Speaker 5: having 3d glasses? Because Saturday night.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Creature of the Black Lagoon, definitely. They might have done
- 17:47Speaker 3: more of them, but I bought some for the Creature one, yeah.
- 17:51Speaker 5: Yeah, they would sell them at the gas station, and
- 17:54Speaker 5: then that night you would watch. Of course, I think
- 17:56Speaker 5: we had, I don't know if it was in black
- 17:58Speaker 5: and white or it was in color. We had a
- 17:59Speaker 5: black and white TV.
- 18:00Speaker 3: Yeah, you wouldn't know the difference. If you had a
- 18:02Speaker 3: black and white TV, again, kids, Google it. I can't
- 18:04Speaker 3: even begin to explain.
- 18:05Speaker 5: It's like, wow, black and white TV.
- 18:09Speaker 3: That was what my, yeah, we had it. The fact
- 18:12Speaker 3: that we even had an extra TV, but eventually it
- 18:15Speaker 3: ended up in my room, it was a glorious 13-inch,
- 18:18Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure. Yeah. Which is pretty big for a kid.
- 18:21Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:22Speaker 2: That's what my first TV was, was a 13-inch. It
- 18:24Speaker 2: fell off a truck.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Did you push it off a truck?
- 18:28Speaker 2: No, that's... But Dave told my mom it fell.
- 18:32Speaker 3: That's how you got it.
- 18:33Speaker 2: That's how I got it.
- 18:34Speaker 3: I question that on a lot of things I've ended
- 18:36Speaker 3: up with over the years.
- 18:37Speaker 2: And the antennas that you had to like sit and like.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Oh, man. I had. Rabbit ears style.
- 18:41Speaker 5: Oh, I had stolen foil out of my mom's. Foil,
- 18:46Speaker 5: clothes hangers, and. Did you ever get beat with those
- 18:49Speaker 5: clothes hangers?
- 18:50Speaker 4: Oh, dude.
- 18:51Speaker 5: I've got beat with clothes hangers.
- 18:53Speaker 2: What have you got beaten with?
- 18:54Speaker 5: I've got beat with a lot of stuff. Like clothes hangers, switches.
- 18:57Speaker 2: Flip flops.
- 18:58Speaker 5: Flip flops, wooden spoons, sticks, yardsticks. My mom's favorite was yardsticks.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Yardsticks and flip flops.
- 19:08Speaker 2: I can imagine the sound of being whooped with a
- 19:10Speaker 2: flip flop.
- 19:10Speaker 5: I always had a flip flop. Well, she's always wearing
- 19:13Speaker 5: flip flops, so she could take her flip flop off
- 19:16Speaker 5: and beat you with it or throw it at you.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Always got a weapon handy.
- 19:21Speaker 5: Good times.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Yikes.
- 19:24Speaker 5: Yeah, but I used, like, pie pans and foil and
- 19:28Speaker 5: all kinds of stuff just so I could get a channel.
- 19:31Speaker 3: I don't think ours was too bad. I do remember
- 19:34Speaker 3: we did have one of those separate ones you would
- 19:38Speaker 3: buy separate that was like a weird little box that
- 19:41Speaker 3: also had the big circle piece in the middle and
- 19:44Speaker 3: two rabbit ears on each side.
- 19:45Speaker 5: Yeah, I thought the rabbit ears were for your... what
- 19:50Speaker 5: is it your vhf channels and then the circular one
- 19:52Speaker 5: was for like.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Your uhf channels probably i do feel like we had.
- 19:56Speaker 5: One of those which what what uhf channels were there
- 19:59Speaker 5: was it just 41 and 32 Yeah, it had to
- 20:03Speaker 5: have been 41 or 32.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Yeah, because one of them was, because I remember on
- 20:06Speaker 3: the little one, you had like a separate knob. It
- 20:08Speaker 3: was like a big knob for the VHS.
- 20:11Speaker 5: Yeah, it was a top dial that just went from
- 20:13Speaker 5: like 0 to 12 or something like that.
- 20:15Speaker 3: And then like 32 was on the other little knob.
- 20:18Speaker 5: Little knob, yeah. It was like all the lower ones,
- 20:20Speaker 5: and you could only get the two. Or you could get.
- 20:23Speaker 5: public access, or public educational TV.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Which, again, I never watched. It was like 15, public entertainment.
- 20:30Speaker 2: Or the big satellite dishes. Do you remember those?
- 20:34Speaker 5: I didn't have any, but my friends had them.
- 20:36Speaker 2: I went into my grandma's house, and switching from one
- 20:39Speaker 2: thing to another, you could hear the satellite. And it
- 20:42Speaker 2: was like all the way across the yard. You remember
- 20:44Speaker 2: how big my grandma's yard was, right? Yeah. And you
- 20:47Speaker 2: remember how big that satellite was, and you had to
- 20:48Speaker 2: sit there, and you're like, We would watch it sit
- 20:52Speaker 2: there and move. Like, all right, how long is this? Okay,
- 20:54Speaker 2: there we go.
- 20:54Speaker 3: Were you looking up in the air for the satellite?
- 20:56Speaker 8: Mm-hmm.
- 20:57Speaker 2: We weren't very smart kids. Good times.
- 21:01Speaker 3: This has been Reminiscing with Old People.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Remember when you had to go rent a VHS player?
- 21:06Speaker 2: Hardly ever.
- 21:08Speaker 3: Eventually, we just had one. But yeah, I don't think
- 21:13Speaker 3: we bothered with it at all before that. We didn't.
- 21:16Speaker 3: We did. Yeah. We did. I think we just eventually
- 21:19Speaker 3: got one, and then we rented movies all the damn time.
- 21:21Speaker 2: Well, you know where the AutoZone is on Grant Line?
- 21:25Speaker 5: Uh, yes.
- 21:26Speaker 2: That's where there used to be a video store there,
- 21:28Speaker 2: and you know the apartments?
- 21:29Speaker 5: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 21:30Speaker 2: We would have to walk down there, and we would
- 21:33Speaker 2: rent the VHS.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Oh, wow.
- 21:34Speaker 5: Yeah, those things were heavy.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Yeah, and it had like a built-in handle on it.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Because my mom would usually, she didn't drive that much.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 21:41Speaker 2: So we'd have to walk down there from those apartments.
- 21:44Speaker 2: It's where the AutoZone is because it used to be
- 21:46Speaker 2: a fucking red giraffe or something.
- 21:48Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 21:49Speaker 2: And you'd have to carry it back, lugging it, you know.
- 21:53Speaker 2: I'd be responsible for the cassette tapes or the VHS tapes.
- 21:57Speaker 3: What a crazy world.
- 21:59Speaker 5: We just didn't. Yeah, we didn't have one. I think
- 22:02Speaker 5: my father won one through his work. And then I
- 22:07Speaker 5: remember the first movie we watched was The Heavenly Kid.
- 22:12Speaker 5: was the first movie we watched. And then I think
- 22:14Speaker 5: the second movie we watched was cannonball run.
- 22:16Speaker 3: I think I've told on here, but the earliest, like
- 22:20Speaker 3: of the VHS era that I remember was the, uh,
- 22:25Speaker 3: we didn't even have anything for, I think the first
- 22:27Speaker 3: couple of years, but you remember my uncle Terry, he
- 22:30Speaker 3: was like ahead of the curve. So he had, he
- 22:32Speaker 3: got the video camera version, which came with two separate pieces,
- 22:37Speaker 3: like to do the video, the video camera part was separate.
- 22:40Speaker 3: It was a smaller thing. that you wired up to
- 22:43Speaker 3: this like over the shoulder squared off VHS with a
- 22:48Speaker 3: top loader tape in it. I remember those. That you
- 22:50Speaker 3: carried with you to shoot. And then it had a
- 22:53Speaker 3: whole separate box that was like the same size that
- 22:55Speaker 3: was like the channel setup that you put those two
- 22:58Speaker 3: together and you could watch TV through it and you
- 23:01Speaker 3: could play the tapes through it. So he had that
- 23:03Speaker 3: for like a year or two before we ever got anything.
- 23:06Speaker 3: So yeah, it was so old school. It was top
- 23:08Speaker 3: loading and a wired remote.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I remember being super upset once that my mom would
- 23:15Speaker 2: not let me rent fritz the cat that's i'm like
- 23:17Speaker 2: it's a cartoon.
- 23:19Speaker 3: Now have you pieced together yeah the thing is it's
- 23:22Speaker 3: actually pretty good i watched it years later assuming it
- 23:25Speaker 3: was just going to be nothing but like animals having
- 23:27Speaker 3: sex which is the way they kick it off.
- 23:29Speaker 2: I mean kitties like cats i don't mean like well
- 23:32Speaker 2: yeah children porn kitty cats kitty cats.
- 23:34Speaker 3: And in fact that is how they kick off the
- 23:36Speaker 3: movie it is kitty cats having sex but like once
- 23:38Speaker 3: you get past that like there's a whole plot that
- 23:41Speaker 3: i did not expect like it's pretty well put together
- 23:43Speaker 3: as a movie the second one was different people involved
- 23:47Speaker 3: and it gets.
- 23:48Speaker 2: Like oh there was a second one yeah there's a
- 23:50Speaker 2: second i don't know i never got.
- 23:52Speaker 3: To watch the first one the first one's pretty good
- 23:54Speaker 3: like i kind of like the plot of the first
- 23:55Speaker 3: i think the second one like they're trying to get
- 23:57Speaker 3: more political and it gets into like anti-war or something
- 24:00Speaker 3: i don't remember really been a long damn time since
- 24:02Speaker 3: i watched those even as a sort of adult but
- 24:05Speaker 3: yeah i i just knew of them i don't think
- 24:08Speaker 3: i ever paid attention to them that much as a
- 24:10Speaker 3: kid but as i got older i was like obviously
- 24:12Speaker 3: i need to watch this it's a dirty cartoon which
- 24:16Speaker 3: again is very minimal like once you get past that
- 24:18Speaker 3: there's random cat boobs somewhere along the way but for
- 24:21Speaker 3: the most part it's like an actual story and like yeah.
- 24:26Speaker 2: Do you hear that people are actually legitimately upset that
- 24:28Speaker 2: they desexualized the bunny was her name luna from the
- 24:36Speaker 2: what's the basketball bugs bunny.
- 24:39Speaker 3: Movie oh that space they're.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Making a second one and people are all like upset
- 24:43Speaker 2: that they desexualized a cartoon rabbit i'm like.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Because she was hot come on now but seriously.
- 24:49Speaker 2: People are like we want our sexy bunny i'm like
- 24:51Speaker 2: what are you talking about are you.
- 24:55Speaker 3: I don't think you understand the levels of geekdom you're
- 24:57Speaker 3: dealing with wow See, that is a very generational dividing movie.
- 25:04Speaker 2: I never watched Space Jam.
- 25:05Speaker 3: Anybody who grew up on Looney Tunes before that, that
- 25:10Speaker 3: movie came out and.
- 25:10Speaker 5: They hated it.
- 25:12Speaker 3: It just goes against everything Looney Tunes ever. And so
- 25:18Speaker 3: I just assumed everybody hated it. And then I hit
- 25:20Speaker 3: that next wave of kids and started working with people
- 25:23Speaker 3: that were that age. And they were like, no, man,
- 25:25Speaker 3: Space Jam's awesome. And I'm like, oh, shit. You were
- 25:27Speaker 3: a little kid when that came out. That was your
- 25:29Speaker 3: Looney Tunes. so yeah that's one of those dividing lines
- 25:32Speaker 3: that like if you grew up with it it's super
- 25:34Speaker 3: cool and those are the kids now that are like
- 25:36Speaker 3: yeah I want to see a new win but I'm
- 25:38Speaker 3: just like the people even older than that are like.
- 25:40Speaker 2: See I'm right in the middle I'm Tiny Toon Adventures which.
- 25:43Speaker 3: Tiny Toons was fine though I was more Animaniacs but
- 25:45Speaker 3: Tiny Toons had.
- 25:46Speaker 2: Its good stuff well they were around the same.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Time yeah they were the same time well Tiny yeah
- 25:50Speaker 3: it's like Tiny Toons came first and I was kind
- 25:52Speaker 3: of like Again, I'm like, it's almost too cutesy. I
- 25:55Speaker 3: don't know. But Animaniacs was just.
- 25:56Speaker 5: Weird right off the bat. Animaniacs was good, and they
- 25:59Speaker 5: threw out adult jokes.
- 26:00Speaker 2: Left and right.
- 26:02Speaker 3: A little too adult sometimes. What?
- 26:05Speaker 2: Because we won't have fingerprints.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Ew.
- 26:10Speaker 3: A little too adult sometimes. Which is why they probably,
- 26:14Speaker 3: when they tried to do it, they had to redo everything.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Because you can't do hello nurse jokes anymore. Because it's
- 26:21Speaker 3: creepy now.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Which I'm like, they're making a new Beavis and Butthead movie.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I think we saw that online and both of
- 26:30Speaker 3: us were like, yeah, this is probably going to be
- 26:32Speaker 3: a terrible idea.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Axl Rose is guest starring on fucking Scooby-Doo.
- 26:36Speaker 3: You sent me that clip and I was just like,
- 26:40Speaker 3: on the one hand, am I jealous that he gets
- 26:42Speaker 3: to be on Scooby-Doo? Yes, of course I am. On
- 26:44Speaker 3: the other, what a weird pairing. Yeah.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Didn't he do a Looney Tunes song a couple years ago?
- 26:50Speaker 3: Yeah. I think, again, you probably sent it over and went,
- 26:53Speaker 3: what the fuck is this? And I was like, I
- 26:55Speaker 3: don't know. I don't know.
- 26:57Speaker 5: He's like, I can make money.
- 27:00Speaker 3: On just my image and to kids who have no
- 27:03Speaker 3: idea who the hell I am. Yeah. Because what kid
- 27:06Speaker 3: watching Scooby-Doo is going to know who the hell Axl
- 27:09Speaker 3: Rose is? Yeah.
- 27:11Speaker 2: But yeah, their whole little... I remember their whole little.
- 27:14Speaker 3: their intro gimme five handshake thing that they did rock and.
- 27:18Speaker 2: Roll legend rock god axl rose or some shit like that.
- 27:22Speaker 3: They did and i was just like fred how do
- 27:25Speaker 3: you even know who he is it was like you're
- 27:27Speaker 3: shaggy you're best 70 years old dude when you still
- 27:30Speaker 3: wouldn't know who he is i don't know but it's
- 27:32Speaker 3: very strange and how did they how are they hooked
- 27:35Speaker 3: up with him like how was shaggy and scoob friends
- 27:38Speaker 3: with him i don't weed i didn't watch the rest
- 27:40Speaker 3: of the episode i don't get it but So weird.
- 27:46Speaker 2: So have we actually watched anything to discuss for the podcast?
- 27:50Speaker 2: We did watch something.
- 27:51Speaker 5: We started watching V again.
- 27:53Speaker 3: And then.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Still on the nostalgia train.
- 27:57Speaker 5: Then we stopped. Did I say I wanted to watch V?
- 28:00Speaker 2: Yes, you did.
- 28:01Speaker 5: Yeah, I wanted to watch V again.
- 28:03Speaker 2: And I'm not going to argue with watching Mark Singer.
- 28:04Speaker 5: And I don't remember why I wanted to watch V.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Because we never finished it the first time. Oh, yeah.
- 28:08Speaker 5: We never finished it the first time. Oh, I was
- 28:11Speaker 5: trying to explain it to a guy I work with.
- 28:13Speaker 3: So.
- 28:14Speaker 2: How do you explain this to somebody who is?
- 28:16Speaker 3: It's hard, especially. It's like everything we've said up till
- 28:19Speaker 3: now in this episode.
- 28:21Speaker 5: Okay, I'm working. This is how things are going now.
- 28:24Speaker 5: My coworker is about a little bit older than my kid.
- 28:30Speaker 2: Yep.
- 28:31Speaker 3: So that was the last job. Yeah. All day long.
- 28:35Speaker 3: I hung out with the cool thing is awesome. But
- 28:38Speaker 3: I'm like, references were totally different.
- 28:40Speaker 5: Well, this kid, I think his dad raised him.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:43Speaker 5: Because he, like he, he, we were just talking one
- 28:48Speaker 5: day and he goes, Hey, did you ever see the
- 28:50Speaker 5: Transformers movie? And I was like, uh, no.
- 28:53Speaker 3: I hate that bullshit.
- 28:55Speaker 5: And you're like, wait. Which one are you talking about?
- 28:58Speaker 5: And he goes, you know, the 80s animated. And I
- 29:00Speaker 5: was like, dude, I saw that in the theater. Fuck yeah.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Crazy talk. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:04Speaker 5: We started talking about that. I was like, how do
- 29:06Speaker 5: you know? My dad made me watch it. We said, yeah,
- 29:08Speaker 5: I love that part. And we were just talking about stuff.
- 29:10Speaker 3: I love that part when they kill everybody.
- 29:12Speaker 5: Yeah, they do, don't they? I was like, I'd forgotten
- 29:14Speaker 5: about that. I went back and watched it.
- 29:16Speaker 3: I haven't watched it forever. That's it.
- 29:18Speaker 5: Okay, hey, I got something I'll watch. I'll watch the
- 29:20Speaker 5: Transformers movie. I fucking forgot about that. Yeah, totally forgot
- 29:24Speaker 5: about that. And they do, they kill everybody.
- 29:26Speaker 3: Like half of the characters.
- 29:27Speaker 5: Yeah, and I remember as a kid, because it was
- 29:30Speaker 5: for one of my buddy's birthday parties. It was me, him,
- 29:35Speaker 5: one of our other friends in the neighborhood, his sister,
- 29:38Speaker 5: and We went to Chuck E. Cheese for his birthday.
- 29:43Speaker 3: Nice already.
- 29:44Speaker 5: All right.
- 29:44Speaker 3: Fancy.
- 29:44Speaker 5: Played a bunch of video games. Ate pizza. Got fat.
- 29:48Speaker 5: You know, like somebody probably threw up.
- 29:50Speaker 3: I don't know. Crawled around in some giant cheese. Yeah.
- 29:53Speaker 5: Crawled around the dirty ass mouse holes, you know. I'm
- 29:56Speaker 5: sure my buddy probably assaulted another kid because he was
- 30:00Speaker 5: always beating.
- 30:01Speaker 3: You looked at me. I had to punch you in
- 30:03Speaker 3: the face.
- 30:03Speaker 5: He was always beating the crap out of kids.
- 30:05Speaker 2: But did he look at him crossways?
- 30:06Speaker 3: I don't know. It's reason enough.
- 30:09Speaker 5: We went and saw the Transformers movie, but it was... Yeah, seriously,
- 30:12Speaker 5: when you're a kid.
- 30:13Speaker 3: They get murdered, man. They murder everybody.
- 30:16Speaker 5: I was like, what the fuck?
- 30:17Speaker 2: It sounds like a cheerful birthday party.
- 30:19Speaker 5: Yeah, I was like, holy shit, they just killed, you know.
- 30:22Speaker 2: Not to mention.
- 30:23Speaker 3: These are my toys at home. I can't play with
- 30:25Speaker 3: these now because they're dead.
- 30:27Speaker 2: You're playing with their little corpses.
- 30:29Speaker 3: Sorry, Optimus. I'm sorry.
- 30:33Speaker 5: But I went back and watched it and I was like,
- 30:35Speaker 5: holy shit.
- 30:35Speaker 3: I've never seen it.
- 30:38Speaker 5: We need to watch it. I need to watch it,
- 30:40Speaker 5: but not... not on YouTube and in sections. Cause I
- 30:44Speaker 5: think it cut out a lot of stuff, but, uh.
- 30:47Speaker 3: They also say bad words.
- 30:49Speaker 5: They do.
- 30:50Speaker 2: I was never a big transformers person. I don't, I've
- 30:52Speaker 2: never seen like an episode of.
- 30:54Speaker 5: The animation on the movies in my brain. Fucking awesome.
- 30:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:00Speaker 5: Uh, the animation of most stuff today.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I mean, the show, they stepped it up a little
- 31:03Speaker 3: bit more. Yeah.
- 31:04Speaker 5: They stepped it up for the movie.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 31:06Speaker 5: But I forgot how well done the movie was.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Hmm.
- 31:10Speaker 5: And I was like, wow, I don't think there's anything
- 31:13Speaker 5: else out right now animation-wise that's that good. They don't
- 31:16Speaker 5: put the time into animation like they used to.
- 31:18Speaker 3: I mean, it's one that I haven't gone back to
- 31:19Speaker 3: re-watch in what we're calling adulthood now. But I kind
- 31:23Speaker 3: of remember it on cable because I didn't see it
- 31:25Speaker 3: in the movie. Go back and watch it. So yeah,
- 31:27Speaker 3: I feel like it's one of those I should revisit,
- 31:29Speaker 3: but it also might be traumatic.
- 31:31Speaker 5: Yeah, Leonard Nimoy's in it.
- 31:34Speaker 3: Orson Welles is in it.
- 31:35Speaker 5: Orson Welles is in it. Yeah, Orson Welles. He's, what
- 31:38Speaker 5: is he, Omnicron?
- 31:39Speaker 3: Yeah, he's like the big bad.
- 31:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:42Speaker 5: So just that whole, like that opening sequence where he's
- 31:45Speaker 5: like this, he's a planet and he eats other planets.
- 31:50Speaker 3: That happens in space.
- 31:51Speaker 5: Just these huge fangs that grip this other planet. You
- 31:54Speaker 5: see all these little robotic people, you know, the aliens,
- 31:58Speaker 5: and they're all getting, they're all getting slaughtered by this
- 32:01Speaker 5: planet that's just ingesting them. And it goes through the
- 32:04Speaker 5: whole thing where it's just like breaking them down. Yeah,
- 32:08Speaker 5: it's kind of weird.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Sounds depressing.
- 32:10Speaker 5: It's not really a great birthday movie.
- 32:13Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, it's not fun for kids.
- 32:14Speaker 5: But it was the 80s. So there wasn't such thing
- 32:18Speaker 5: as like everything had like very life or death. I
- 32:22Speaker 5: don't think there was anything like, hey, everything's going to
- 32:25Speaker 5: be rainbows and sunshine. It was all like, hey, kids,
- 32:27Speaker 5: you're going to get killed.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Well, it was all or nothing. It was, yeah, your
- 32:31Speaker 3: Transformers are going to get killed. Or the Care Bears.
- 32:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 32:34Speaker 3: And they were pretty happy most of the time. Yeah.
- 32:36Speaker 3: Gloomy Bear, he's a little bit pissy. But other than that.
- 32:38Speaker 2: That is my favorite.
- 32:39Speaker 3: They were pretty happy all the time.
- 32:41Speaker 5: Oh, I went back and watched the G.I.
- 32:42Speaker 3: Joe movie, too.
- 32:43Speaker 5: I forgot about that.
- 32:44Speaker 3: I haven't. Yeah. I haven't even. I went back and
- 32:48Speaker 3: watched some episodes a few years back. And they still, again,
- 32:52Speaker 3: that was such an epic storyline in my brain.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:56Speaker 3: And I don't, and again, like in my mind, like
- 32:58Speaker 3: those series went on for like months.
- 33:01Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:01Speaker 3: I think it was like four episode arc or something.
- 33:03Speaker 3: Pretty much. But in my head it was like, it
- 33:05Speaker 3: took up my whole summer. It was this wonderful, weird
- 33:09Speaker 3: building of serpent bad guy. That whole storyline was like
- 33:12Speaker 3: the coolest thing ever.
- 33:13Speaker 2: It was.
- 33:14Speaker 5: And like, see, I collected comic books too. That was
- 33:18Speaker 5: kind of my cartoons in the early years.
- 33:21Speaker 3: I had a good amount of them at the time.
- 33:23Speaker 5: But mainly because I could sneak them. from my friend's house.
- 33:26Speaker 3: I'm reading! Yeah, you know, they could.
- 33:29Speaker 5: No TV noises.
- 33:31Speaker 3: I'm learning with this book!
- 33:33Speaker 5: They had the whole, like, when they were doing that whole,
- 33:36Speaker 5: you know, the Arise of Serpentor kind of thing, they
- 33:41Speaker 5: covered the comic books too, and the comic book version
- 33:44Speaker 5: was actually a lot better than the cartoon version. I
- 33:47Speaker 5: think it was a little bit darker, but I remember
- 33:50Speaker 5: watching them both at the same time, and maybe that's
- 33:52Speaker 5: why it seemed like it took all summer, because, you know,
- 33:54Speaker 5: yet the The other shows, they may have played, like,
- 33:57Speaker 5: four episodes, but the comic books probably went on for, like,
- 34:01Speaker 5: you got one a month. So then it went.
- 34:03Speaker 3: On for four months. I think we always, like, just
- 34:05Speaker 3: in your head, especially when you're a kid.
- 34:07Speaker 5: Well, everything lasts longer.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Everything is a bigger, because, yeah, on an episode months ago,
- 34:11Speaker 3: we were, like, having flashbacks of Battle of the Planets.
- 34:15Speaker 3: But we were like, yeah, that one big storyline. And
- 34:18Speaker 3: we went back and, like, found it on YouTube, and
- 34:19Speaker 3: it's two parts. It was two episodes. And somehow in
- 34:23Speaker 3: our brains it was like the biggest thing ever. And
- 34:25Speaker 3: I was just like, yeah, that's how kid brains work.
- 34:28Speaker 3: Like everything's huge and it takes over your whole life. Yeah.
- 34:32Speaker 5: Battle of the Planets. I forgot about that.
- 34:33Speaker 3: Such a great cartoon.
- 34:36Speaker 5: That was another one that I think I had to
- 34:39Speaker 5: go over to my friend Ty's house to watch.
- 34:41Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 34:42Speaker 6: So.
- 34:44Speaker 3: Well, on the animated front, I had one thing that
- 34:48Speaker 3: I was going to get to specifically because I saw
- 34:50Speaker 3: it the Just like the last couple of weeks. And
- 34:53Speaker 3: I thought it specifically tied to you, Misty. On a
- 34:57Speaker 3: show that I'm not really that big of a fan of.
- 35:00Speaker 3: Because they keep making new animated primetime shows. And most
- 35:04Speaker 3: of them, I just don't care. And I don't... Some
- 35:07Speaker 3: of them are fine, I guess.
- 35:08Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 35:09Speaker 3: Fox keeps cranking out a whole new lineup. And I
- 35:11Speaker 3: just keep kind of having them on in the background
- 35:13Speaker 3: while I'm doing other stuff. And I'm just like, eh.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Not really... Not going to make an effort to watch.
- 35:19Speaker 3: One of which is Bless the Hearts.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Never heard of it.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I mean, it's on after The Simpsons. Yes, The Simpsons
- 35:26Speaker 3: is still on.
- 35:26Speaker 2: Holy shit, are you serious?
- 35:28Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. So, Simpsons is on, and then they play
- 35:32Speaker 3: Bless the Hearts, which is another animated thing. And it's,
- 35:35Speaker 3: I don't know, it's two weirdo, backwoods, little town people.
- 35:40Speaker 3: I don't care about them. Most of them. The only
- 35:43Speaker 3: one that's kind of cool, the oldest daughter, well, the
- 35:46Speaker 3: only daughter that the main character lady has is like
- 35:50Speaker 3: the teenager... And she's super cool. She's got kind of
- 35:53Speaker 3: a Daria vibe, I'll say. She's the artsy kid that's
- 35:55Speaker 3: too cool for all these dumb people.
- 35:57Speaker 2: That are around her. I'd say Jane's more artsy.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Well, both of them were kind of that same everybody
- 36:02Speaker 3: else's stupid vibe. So it's kind of that. So it's
- 36:05Speaker 3: her and her friend that are like super artsy and
- 36:08Speaker 3: too cool for everybody. But there's also the old grandma
- 36:12Speaker 3: that's just crazy and annoying. But they decide in this
- 36:16Speaker 3: last couple of episodes to start a podcast. And they're
- 36:19Speaker 3: going to do a true crime podcast. Because the grandma
- 36:23Speaker 3: had like some connection to a story in this town,
- 36:25Speaker 3: like from years ago where somebody got murdered. So like,
- 36:28Speaker 3: I didn't pay much attention when that was going on.
- 36:30Speaker 3: And I came back this last episode and I realized
- 36:33Speaker 3: I was like, well, this is what's going to happen
- 36:35Speaker 3: if Misty decides to start a true crime podcast. So
- 36:38Speaker 3: grandma started coming up with all these stories about all
- 36:41Speaker 3: these true crimes. And then everybody in the town was
- 36:44Speaker 3: like pissed off at the, at the teenage girl and
- 36:46Speaker 3: like yelling at her and throwing things at her where
- 36:48Speaker 3: she went. And she realized that all of the true
- 36:52Speaker 3: crime was just her grandma making up stories about other
- 36:56Speaker 3: people in the town that had pissed her off. And
- 36:59Speaker 3: I was like, oh, well, here we go.
- 37:01Speaker 2: My grandma would totally do that.
- 37:03Speaker 3: So, like, anybody that, like, stole their boyfriend in high school, they, like,
- 37:06Speaker 3: here's a whole story about how she murdered a guy
- 37:08Speaker 3: and got rid of him in a bathtub. And, like,
- 37:11Speaker 3: so she had one for everybody in the town eventually.
- 37:13Speaker 3: So the whole town hated her because she made up
- 37:15Speaker 3: stories about him.
- 37:16Speaker 2: I realize how many people today have stolen my ideas.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Because as I listen to all my podcasts about 90s
- 37:24Speaker 2: YA horror, like Fear Street and Christopher Pike books, do
- 37:28Speaker 2: you not recall me saying in an episode in a
- 37:33Speaker 2: hotel room with that comedian chick, whose name I don't remember,
- 37:37Speaker 2: that I wanted to have a podcast where I talked
- 37:39Speaker 2: about Fear Street books? And that was how long ago?
- 37:43Speaker 3: Four, five years at least?
- 37:46Speaker 2: Oh, it was way longer than that, dude.
- 37:49Speaker 3: You can't do that long. Huh?
- 37:51Speaker 6: And?
- 37:51Speaker 2: And they stole my idea.
- 37:53Speaker 3: Now there's a bajillion of them. But at the time
- 37:55Speaker 3: when you said that, I don't think there was any.
- 37:58Speaker 5: But you never did it.
- 37:59Speaker 2: I didn't because nobody else would do it with me.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Are you going to read a fair share of books?
- 38:02Speaker 3: I mean, I would have, but I wasn't going to
- 38:04Speaker 3: read anything. You just have to tell me the book.
- 38:06Speaker 2: There are several podcasts that are like that where it's
- 38:08Speaker 2: like one person could have been me.
- 38:10Speaker 5: All Beyond the Show is like a.
- 38:13Speaker 2: Sounding board.
- 38:15Speaker 5: The Yes Man. I'll Be Your Hype Guy.
- 38:18Speaker 2: That was way more than four years ago.
- 38:20Speaker 3: You're the flavor flavor of this show. Oh yeah, we're
- 38:22Speaker 3: going to read books.
- 38:25Speaker 2: That's bound to have been way more than four years ago.
- 38:30Speaker 3: No, I just heard her on another show, so I
- 38:32Speaker 3: was trying to.
- 38:34Speaker 3: But yep, that was our episode with Jackie Cajun.
- 38:36Speaker 2: How long ago was that? Way more than four years.
- 38:39Speaker 3: If you say so.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I do say so.
- 38:41Speaker 3: I don't think it was that long ago. I don't
- 38:43Speaker 3: think it could be more than five.
- 38:45Speaker 2: I don't know, it just seems like longer than that.
- 38:47Speaker 2: But yeah, everybody stole my idea.
- 38:49Speaker 3: People, stop stealing our idea.
- 38:51Speaker 2: I know, right?
- 38:52Speaker 3: Or we need to cash in on these things.
- 38:54Speaker 5: Well, you can only do one thing. You can't do
- 38:56Speaker 5: the podcast and have the super huge Instagram book collection
- 39:04Speaker 5: at the same time.
- 39:04Speaker 3: That's true. You do have quite an operation going on
- 39:08Speaker 3: the Instagrams.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Not really, because I only have like less than 200 followers.
- 39:11Speaker 3: So, I mean... But that whole, like again... geeky as
- 39:17Speaker 3: I am and into my areas sometimes I see just
- 39:20Speaker 3: a window and other geeks and I'm just like oh
- 39:22Speaker 3: yeah I get it but that's not me because then
- 39:25Speaker 3: like all the people that are following you some of
- 39:27Speaker 3: them I'm like oh this person seems cool and I
- 39:29Speaker 3: start going through their stuff and I'm just like whoa
- 39:32Speaker 3: much like your room in there I'm like you guys
- 39:34Speaker 3: going deep on these books so I'm like geeks finding
- 39:38Speaker 3: other geeks out there and be like not my thing
- 39:40Speaker 3: but I totally respect your dedication to the craft being
- 39:45Speaker 3: a geek.
- 39:47Speaker 2: Do we watch anything else?
- 39:50Speaker 3: We're about to. I say we take a break and
- 39:53Speaker 3: watch this week's movie. And it's gonna be awesome.
- 39:56Speaker 2: Oh, I hope so. There will be no shit talking
- 39:58Speaker 2: about Corey, though.
- 39:59Speaker 3: You don't even have to. You're gonna have so many
- 40:01Speaker 3: other things to be distracted by. Yeah. Let's just get
- 40:06Speaker 3: to it.
- 40:09Speaker 7: Singing with a broken string Tell me what you really
- 40:13Speaker 7: mean Do you know what you want While beating Drive
- 40:27Speaker 7: away your worries and cares at this drive-in theater, where
- 40:33Speaker 7: you will see the finest motion pictures of all time,
- 40:37Speaker 7: soon to be released.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Drama.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Comedy, adventure, excitement, something for everyone.
- 40:59Speaker 4: Here's a brief glimpse of some of the truly fine
- 41:02Speaker 4: pictures we've scheduled in the near future. In the not-too-distant future,
- 41:06Speaker 4: wars will no longer exist, but there will be Rollerball.
- 41:17Speaker 4: Two teams of lethal gladiators wearing spiked helmets and steel
- 41:22Speaker 4: studded gloves. Some on skates, others on motorcycles, battling on
- 41:28Speaker 4: a high banked oval track. A solid steel ball hurtling
- 41:33Speaker 4: towards them with murderous velocity. Collision, flame, violence, death. Broadcast
- 41:42Speaker 4: on multivision to two billion hypnotized viewers. It's all a
- 41:47Speaker 4: part of the game.
- 41:48Speaker 5: This wasn't meant to.
- 41:50Speaker 3: Be a game!
- 41:51Speaker 4: It's Rollerball. James Caan. John Houseman. Rollerball. A Norman Jewison film.
- 41:59Speaker 4: Rated R. Under 17. Not admitted without parents.
- 42:21Speaker 3: So guess what happened the other day? I have no idea.
- 42:25Speaker 3: I went into a store. I know it's hard to
- 42:28Speaker 3: go out into the world, but I actually went into
- 42:30Speaker 3: a place and I brought my goods up to the
- 42:33Speaker 3: register and they went to ring me up and damned
- 42:37Speaker 3: if it didn't say 666. Ooh.
- 42:38Speaker 2: Fantastic.
- 42:42Speaker 3: And the woman behind the counter went, Oh God. Like she,
- 42:45Speaker 3: she kind of responded. And I was like, nah, that
- 42:48Speaker 3: seems about right. It's fine. So, it's obvious that we're
- 42:52Speaker 3: in tune with the dark forces of the universe. Clearly. And,
- 42:57Speaker 3: you know, one of those things is probably because we're
- 43:01Speaker 3: always rolling 20-sided die.
- 43:02Speaker 2: We can't stop.
- 43:06Speaker 3: So, I, you know, as you may or may not know,
- 43:10Speaker 3: each time we roll the die, we open up a
- 43:13Speaker 3: portal to some sort of demon dimension and evil forces
- 43:16Speaker 3: come and go and do as they please. So, you know,
- 43:19Speaker 3: If you didn't know that at home, this is one
- 43:22Speaker 3: of the things we're doing now is opening up demon portals.
- 43:26Speaker 3: We also kind of watch horror movies, but this is
- 43:29Speaker 3: one of the benefits, fringe benefits that comes with setting
- 43:35Speaker 3: up a show that rolls die and brings in horror
- 43:38Speaker 3: movies and evil forces.
- 43:40Speaker 5: It's the whole reason I joined.
- 43:43Speaker 3: And you too can join and be part of this
- 43:45Speaker 3: evil madness. So, go to MovieMeltdown.com Click on that link
- 43:50Speaker 3: right there at the top that says join the Horror
- 43:52Speaker 3: Club and you can enjoy all the fun and games
- 43:55Speaker 3: that comes along with the Demon Dimensions that we're opening up.
- 43:59Speaker 3: And we talk about horror movies on occasion.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Sometimes.
- 44:04Speaker 5: So, Brian, what's the minimum to join up for that?
- 44:07Speaker 3: Two bucks.
- 44:08Speaker 5: Two bucks.
- 44:09Speaker 1: Two American dollars and you can get all this and more.
- 44:13Speaker 3: Two measly dollars and you can have access to all
- 44:16Speaker 3: of the episodes. Now, granted, you can throw some more
- 44:19Speaker 3: at us and we'll come up with some other crazy things.
- 44:21Speaker 3: But you get $ 2 in and you can listen to
- 44:25Speaker 3: every one of the bonus episodes. All horror related. All
- 44:29Speaker 3: just for you. And on top of that, our little
- 44:31Speaker 3: promo we've got going now is the previously mentioned rolling
- 44:35Speaker 3: of the die. If you join up, you get to
- 44:39Speaker 3: give us a movie to put.
- 44:40Speaker 1: On the list.
- 44:41Speaker 3: And then we'll roll the die and potentially get to
- 44:44Speaker 3: your movie down the line. We never know when. That's
- 44:46Speaker 3: part of the evil forces that live inside the 20-sided die.
- 44:50Speaker 3: But you can be part of that if you just
- 44:52Speaker 3: join the club. And then you can get your movie
- 44:55Speaker 3: on the list and listen as we crack open the
- 44:59Speaker 3: thin little membrane that's containing evil on the other side
- 45:02Speaker 3: of the void. Each week, we're poking at it with
- 45:06Speaker 3: a stick. You can be part of that magic. Evil magic.
- 45:12Speaker 5: Dark magic.
- 45:13Speaker 3: Why not?
- 45:15Speaker 5: For $ 2. You are probably just going to throw that
- 45:20Speaker 5: money in the garbage anyway.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Probably. I mean, you don't need anything to do with
- 45:25Speaker 3: it now. You can't go anywhere.
- 45:27Speaker 6: You can't do anything functional.
- 45:28Speaker 3: I was lucky to come up with enough to scrape
- 45:31Speaker 3: together to get $ 6. 66 worth of goods because I don't
- 45:35Speaker 3: go anywhere. I don't do anything now. It's the wonderful
- 45:37Speaker 3: world we live in. So now you've got that extra
- 45:40Speaker 3: two bucks to throw towards something important like this show.
- 45:45Speaker 3: So go to MovieMeltdown.com, click on the Horror Club link
- 45:48Speaker 3: on the right side of the page, and join the club.
- 45:50Speaker 3: With your help, we can keep this 20-sided die rolling.
- 46:10Speaker 5: Hey guys, I'm Miji Daly.
- 46:11Speaker 2: You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 46:12Speaker 3: Run, run.
- 46:29Speaker 6: It's time for Sofa Theater.
- 46:35Speaker 1: On the streets of the future, a new breed of
- 46:37Speaker 1: warrior is rising. A deadly paramilitary gang has taken control,
- 46:42Speaker 1: and only one young hero has the courage to stop them.
- 46:45Speaker 4: Rollerboys aren't just another gang.
- 46:47Speaker 5: They own buildings, factories, foreign investments.
- 46:50Speaker 4: I need someone on the inside. It's not easy. You
- 46:53Speaker 4: don't know how easy it is.
- 46:55Speaker 8: Paul Griffin, our newest brother!
- 47:02Speaker 1: Count on this all-star cast to power Prayer of the
- 47:05Speaker 1: Rollerboys to rental success. Teen superstar Corey Haim from Lucas,
- 47:10Speaker 1: License to Drive, Murphy's Romance, and The Lost Boys comes
- 47:13Speaker 1: of age as an actor. As New York Post critic
- 47:16Speaker 1: Rex Reed says, his talents don't seem to recognize limitations.
- 47:20Speaker 1: Haim is moving into the fast lane, according to People magazine,
- 47:23Speaker 1: and millions of teenagers are watching his every move. Patricia
- 47:36Speaker 1: Arquette of Far North and Nightmare on Elm Street Part
- 47:39Speaker 1: 3 stars as an undercover agent. And Christopher Collet of
- 47:44Speaker 1: Firstborn and the Manhattan Project is Rollerboy gang leader Gary Lee.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Inline skates have taken over the country and prayer of
- 47:54Speaker 1: the Rollerboys will be fueled by an overwhelming built-in consumer
- 47:58Speaker 1: demand thanks to the hottest new fitness trend in this century.
- 48:02Speaker 1: Blades of a new rage and the momentum is staggering.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Millions of people are lacing up and blading off.
- 48:08Speaker 3: I'm checking out the Wikipedia page.
- 48:35Speaker 2: I'm trying to figure out what the fuck was going on.
- 48:38Speaker 3: You didn't know what was going on?
- 48:41Speaker 2: No, because there's different stuff on the Wikipedia page.
- 48:44Speaker 5: I mean, I kind of got an idea of what's
- 48:45Speaker 5: going on.
- 48:46Speaker 3: As much as there is.
- 48:48Speaker 5: It's very all over the place, but yeah, I get it.
- 48:50Speaker 5: It's just.
- 48:53Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 48:53Speaker 5: Yeah. When was this movie made?
- 48:56Speaker 3: Again? 90s? 1990 is what they're crediting it.
- 49:00Speaker 5: Because you've got these movies that always have that weird
- 49:04Speaker 5: dystopian like they they all of them all of them
- 49:08Speaker 5: that came out in the 90s they had like that
- 49:12Speaker 5: weird kind of post-apocalyptic thing but it wasn't like nuclear
- 49:16Speaker 5: war post-apocalyptic it was.
- 49:18Speaker 3: It was the real world that we're living in in
- 49:20Speaker 3: right now it was it was it.
- 49:21Speaker 5: Was either you know social economic collapse and everybody's just
- 49:25Speaker 5: kind of living like vagabonds and shit like that you know.
- 49:29Speaker 3: So again a good portion of the people in the
- 49:31Speaker 3: country right yeah but i mean we were talking about
- 49:34Speaker 3: this uh the other day we were talking about the
- 49:36Speaker 3: movie um.
- 49:39Speaker 5: One of the guys at work, we were both talking
- 49:41Speaker 5: about Double Dragon. Remember Double Dragon that came out? Mark Dacascos?
- 49:46Speaker 3: I remember it happening. I remember nothing about it. I'm
- 49:50Speaker 3: sure I watched it on cable.
- 49:51Speaker 5: But you don't remember how everything was kind of the
- 49:54Speaker 5: same way? Kind of the same weird future? Super Mario Bros.
- 49:59Speaker 3: Oh, that, definitely.
- 50:00Speaker 5: Same thing.
- 50:00Speaker 3: I love Super Mario Bros.
- 50:02Speaker 5: Weird fucking, like.
- 50:03Speaker 3: And it's its own, well, it's at least an alternate universe,
- 50:07Speaker 3: kind of. Definitely the Dino version is, but even the
- 50:10Speaker 3: regular New York is kind of weird.
- 50:12Speaker 5: It's kind of weird, yeah.
- 50:14Speaker 3: The Dino universe is, like, totally post-apocalyptic, but yet just weird,
- 50:19Speaker 3: regular shit, too.
- 50:21Speaker 5: But that's what they did, like, it kind of seemed
- 50:23Speaker 5: like in the 90s, it was like, they had that,
- 50:26Speaker 5: but then they threw in something weird, like, everybody's, like,
- 50:31Speaker 5: there's an army, but they're all wearing rollerblades, you know?
- 50:34Speaker 5: It's just like, what?
- 50:36Speaker 3: I like even when there would be, like, a minor
- 50:38Speaker 3: version that they'd throw in. The one that I always
- 50:42Speaker 3: love when you, like, make up a new drug.
- 50:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 50:44Speaker 3: There's, like, everything else more or less about Harley Davis
- 50:49Speaker 3: and the Marvlo Man is, like, just kind of, like,
- 50:52Speaker 3: it's the regular time that it was shot in. Like,
- 50:54Speaker 3: everything's normal, except it's, like, Two years in the future
- 50:58Speaker 3: when there's this new drug that now everybody's into. But
- 51:01Speaker 3: like everything else about the world is totally normal.
- 51:04Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:04Speaker 3: But there's that little weird subculture that's almost like on
- 51:08Speaker 3: the verge of post-apocalyptic.
- 51:10Speaker 5: Think about how weird it is now. So think of
- 51:14Speaker 5: 2019 if they made a movie. Two years from now,
- 51:18Speaker 5: in the future, when there's a virus and everybody has
- 51:20Speaker 5: to wear masks and how weird is that?
- 51:23Speaker 2: They made that movie. It was Contagion.
- 51:25Speaker 3: We just watched that. The one we just watched was
- 51:30Speaker 3: It Comes at Night.
- 51:31Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 51:32Speaker 3: Which they shot in 2017. Just happened. But yet the
- 51:37Speaker 3: entire thing is. People are boarded up in their homes.
- 51:41Speaker 3: Everybody's wearing gas masks. Everybody freaks out when they come
- 51:43Speaker 3: in contact with anybody else. They're all worried about getting
- 51:46Speaker 3: exposed and getting infected. And I'm watching it now. I'm
- 51:49Speaker 3: just like, They had no idea. It was only a
- 51:52Speaker 3: couple years ago. They had no idea how accurate this
- 51:55Speaker 3: would be. We're living this. Minus the entire fall of civilization.
- 51:59Speaker 3: But maybe they're just a little, give it a couple weeks.
- 52:02Speaker 2: They were still early in the year.
- 52:03Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. That could all happen still. So
- 52:05Speaker 3: that was really weird watching that. Because it's just a
- 52:09Speaker 3: couple years. It wasn't like 20, 30 years ago when
- 52:11Speaker 3: they were making this crazy. I'm like, they didn't know
- 52:14Speaker 3: how close they were to making that actual thing come true.
- 52:20Speaker 3: future movies and telling yeah that's what sold me on
- 52:25Speaker 3: this week's silver theater feature prayer of the roller boys.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Can we just take a second to talk about how
- 52:33Speaker 2: pretty cory haim was.
- 52:35Speaker 3: You're jumping the gun i don't.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Even care you haven't even read the rest of this
- 52:38Speaker 2: nonsense that doesn't cory haim the year.
- 52:41Speaker 3: Of this pretty cory haim is 1990 the director is rick.
- 52:47Speaker 5: King there was a director in this.
- 52:49Speaker 3: There was And the plot, if you want to call
- 52:53Speaker 3: it that. According to IMDb, in a dystopian near-future America,
- 52:58Speaker 3: a young man infiltrates a powerful, drug-dealing, rollerblading youth gang
- 53:05Speaker 3: that runs his town in order to end the rain. Wait,
- 53:11Speaker 3: what is? In order to end the rain for good.
- 53:16Speaker 3: That is oddly worded. As always, IMDb. Spoiler alert, we're
- 53:21Speaker 3: going to ruin this magical film and you should go
- 53:26Speaker 3: watch it.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Like ruin it? Okay, spoil it.
- 53:29Speaker 3: We're going to spoil it. I mean, we can't ruin
- 53:31Speaker 3: it any more than they did.
- 53:33Speaker 5: Spill grape juice on it. Totally ruin it.
- 53:37Speaker 3: But it's awesome and the most awesome thing is we
- 53:40Speaker 3: watched it on YouTube and it was free.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Because my bootleg DVD looks like shit.
- 53:44Speaker 3: You did have a bootleg DVD because it was Corey,
- 53:47Speaker 3: but When we looked at it, the free streaming version
- 53:50Speaker 3: looked even better.
- 53:51Speaker 5: Everybody's so spoiled on HD and shit like that.
- 53:57Speaker 3: 5K.
- 53:58Speaker 5: I'm like, dude, I don't care. It kind of reminds
- 54:00Speaker 5: me of watching VHS movies.
- 54:01Speaker 3: It gets to a point of, yeah, it's like I
- 54:04Speaker 3: don't care about super high def, but there's a point
- 54:07Speaker 3: where it's so degraded. Because there was one I watched
- 54:11Speaker 3: months ago on YouTube, and by the end I was like,
- 54:13Speaker 3: I'm not even sure what's going on anymore. The picture
- 54:15Speaker 3: looks so bad. So I was like, I might have
- 54:17Speaker 3: to re-watch this for real. Thankfully, this one's not. This
- 54:21Speaker 3: actually looked surprisingly good for an old movie. And I'm
- 54:25Speaker 3: guessing they didn't do like a Criterion edition of this
- 54:27Speaker 3: where they restored it.
- 54:28Speaker 2: They do have an official DVD version. There is an official.
- 54:31Speaker 3: A DVD. Yeah, because I looked. I was like, I'm
- 54:33Speaker 3: assuming this hasn't made it to Blu-ray yet.
- 54:36Speaker 2: No, I don't think so.
- 54:38Speaker 3: So.
- 54:38Speaker 5: If you remember, rollerblading in the 90s was so cool.
- 54:43Speaker 5: so cool well okay maybe it wasn't.
- 54:45Speaker 3: No it was that's the thing like i mean it
- 54:47Speaker 3: was so cool i didn't even attempt it was but
- 54:49Speaker 3: it was gonna fall down but.
- 54:51Speaker 5: Well i i you know i was heavy in the
- 54:53Speaker 5: skateboard scene for a long time from mid 80s all
- 54:56Speaker 5: the way up into the like late 90s and even
- 55:00Speaker 5: at one point had got a set of rollerblades because
- 55:04Speaker 5: i worked uh on campus and they wouldn't let me
- 55:07Speaker 5: skateboard so but they would let me rollerblade.
- 55:10Speaker 3: See i want to say what the fuck's up with
- 55:12Speaker 3: that i don't know just hating on some skaters yeah
- 55:16Speaker 3: well but rollerbladers are new and cool.
- 55:18Speaker 5: Well rollerbladers yeah they didn't seem as i guess they
- 55:22Speaker 5: didn't tear up stuff as much because all they did
- 55:24Speaker 5: was just kind of jump off steps.
- 55:26Speaker 3: You weren't grinding on things come on no we weren't.
- 55:27Speaker 5: Grinding on things so But I tell you what, those
- 55:30Speaker 5: things did hurt my ankles a lot.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Dude, seriously.
- 55:33Speaker 5: They hurt my ankles.
- 55:35Speaker 2: I never went rollerblading, but I went ice skating one time.
- 55:38Speaker 2: I was in pain.
- 55:40Speaker 3: You were there. I'm trying to remember how much you
- 55:44Speaker 3: fell down.
- 55:46Speaker 2: Probably none because I was probably too close to the
- 55:47Speaker 2: wall to actually hit the ice because I was too
- 55:49Speaker 2: terrified that as soon as I hit that ice, somebody's
- 55:51Speaker 2: going to run over my fingers.
- 55:52Speaker 3: So wait, were you in a Final Destination movie?
- 55:57Speaker 2: Dude, terrified. I like hugged the wall the entire time.
- 56:00Speaker 2: I think it was a rail.
- 56:02Speaker 5: I told you about that, didn't I?
- 56:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 56:03Speaker 5: The guy I used to work with. I don't know.
- 56:05Speaker 2: He told me lots of things.
- 56:06Speaker 5: He used to play ice hockey growing up. And he was,
- 56:12Speaker 5: they were playing a tournament against another team. And it was,
- 56:16Speaker 5: I guess it was another school. And one of the
- 56:18Speaker 5: guys he knew was on the other team. They both
- 56:21Speaker 5: kind of had this beef between each other. But the
- 56:24Speaker 5: guy knocked him down and stepped on his hand.
- 56:26Speaker 2: With the ice skates. And it almost severed a couple
- 56:29Speaker 2: of his fingers.
- 56:30Speaker 3: Nightmares. Even amongst hockey fighting, that's crossing a line, man.
- 56:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 56:35Speaker 3: You just throw your gloves down and punch him in
- 56:36Speaker 3: the face, but that's crossing a line.
- 56:39Speaker 5: Yeah, this kid tried to.
- 56:41Speaker 2: So, yeah.
- 56:42Speaker 3: My roller blade tie-in. I didn't have them. I don't
- 56:46Speaker 3: think I've ever put any on. But for months, I
- 56:49Speaker 3: rode around with some of my car.
- 56:52Speaker 2: What a weirdo.
- 56:54Speaker 3: They weren't mine. We did, again, back to the olden
- 56:59Speaker 3: days of being an art geek, they used to do those, like, get-togethers,
- 57:02Speaker 3: and people would, like, hang out and, like, paint shit.
- 57:05Speaker 3: There was this girl. She'd been there quite a few times,
- 57:09Speaker 3: but I don't think I even knew her name. And, like,
- 57:11Speaker 3: at some point, like, she had come from, I don't know, rollerblading,
- 57:14Speaker 3: I'm guessing, and she, like, brought those in with her,
- 57:16Speaker 3: and then she left and left them there. And normally
- 57:20Speaker 3: it was like maybe a week or two would go
- 57:22Speaker 3: by and we'd end up back there again and be like,
- 57:24Speaker 3: all right, well, everybody else was already leaving. I'm like,
- 57:26Speaker 3: I'll just take them, throw them in the car. I
- 57:28Speaker 3: won't forget them that way. I'll just leave them there.
- 57:31Speaker 3: She didn't come back for like six months.
- 57:34Speaker 2: She had no rollerblades to get anywhere.
- 57:36Speaker 3: She drove her car there. So like for the longest time,
- 57:41Speaker 3: they just sat like in the passenger side floor of
- 57:44Speaker 3: my vehicle as I drove around. And I was like,
- 57:47Speaker 3: one of these days, I'm going to have to give
- 57:49Speaker 3: them back. I also just started referring to her as Blades.
- 57:53Speaker 3: She never had it. I don't remember what her name was.
- 57:55Speaker 3: She's just Blades to this day. So I have no
- 57:57Speaker 3: idea what happened to Blades. Eventually, she came back and
- 58:00Speaker 3: I gave them to her. I was like, you left
- 58:02Speaker 3: these here like six months ago. Do you want these?
- 58:05Speaker 5: You didn't have to wear rollerblades back in the 90s.
- 58:07Speaker 5: You could just have them draped over your shoulder.
- 58:09Speaker 3: That's how cool you would be.
- 58:10Speaker 5: Yeah. I partially blame hackers.
- 58:14Speaker 3: For your dream life.
- 58:16Speaker 5: For everything.
- 58:17Speaker 3: For everything about your life.
- 58:18Speaker 5: Dude, I love Hackers. I can't lie.
- 58:20Speaker 6: I love that.
- 58:21Speaker 5: It's got a great soundtrack. It's got rollerblades. You were rolling.
- 58:26Speaker 3: Around being like.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Angelina Jolie with the worst hair ever. I don't care.
- 58:29Speaker 2: I said it. A popular opinion. She looked awful in
- 58:31Speaker 2: that movie.
- 58:33Speaker 3: I'm not thrilled with a lot of short girl haircuts.
- 58:36Speaker 3: Her hair was horrible. Yes.
- 58:39Speaker 5: But in the 90s, I really liked girls with short hair.
- 58:42Speaker 5: And I don't know if that was just that time period.
- 58:45Speaker 5: But I think just for that time, because you had
- 58:48Speaker 5: the singer from the Cranberries.
- 58:51Speaker 3: Yeah, Dolores, yeah.
- 58:52Speaker 5: You had her. There were a couple other girls that
- 58:54Speaker 5: were starting to do that pixie haircut.
- 58:57Speaker 3: And some of them can pull it off. Some could.
- 58:58Speaker 3: That's what's weird. I don't know what the rule is.
- 59:01Speaker 3: But there's some that I'm like, she's wearing it okay.
- 59:04Speaker 3: And then like 90% of other girls, I'm like, oh, no, that's.
- 59:06Speaker 6: A bad idea.
- 59:07Speaker 5: I think you have to have kind of an elfy
- 59:09Speaker 5: little pixie face.
- 59:10Speaker 3: That helps probably.
- 59:11Speaker 2: Do I look elfy enough?
- 59:12Speaker 3: No, you don't. That's not really at all what I
- 59:16Speaker 3: describe you as.
- 59:19Speaker 2: I would look horrible with that. I would have a
- 59:20Speaker 2: funny shaped head.
- 59:23Speaker 5: Misty doesn't look like a Keebler. But she does like cookies.
- 59:28Speaker 2: I do.
- 59:29Speaker 3: You're going to live in a tree eventually. It's a
- 59:31Speaker 3: matter of time.
- 59:32Speaker 5: I didn't say that.
- 59:33Speaker 2: Oh, Misty, she likes those cookies.
- 59:35Speaker 3: I just said you live in a tree.
- 59:39Speaker 2: But yeah, the amount of rollerblading that took place in
- 59:41Speaker 2: this movie, which we did watch a movie.
- 59:44Speaker 3: That's the whole movie.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Made my ankle hurt. I was just like, ugh. My
- 59:49Speaker 2: ankles are sore just from watching this, because it's flashbacks
- 59:52Speaker 2: from that one time I went ice skating.
- 59:53Speaker 3: While we're on the rollerblading part, which is the good
- 59:57Speaker 3: part of the movie.
- 59:59Speaker 2: Synchronized rollerblading.
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: It is weird that there are scenes with them not
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: wearing rollerblades, and then very shortly after they'll be wearing them.
- 1:00:07Speaker 3: I never see them carrying the other footwear. They're never
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: on rollerblades carrying some chucks. And the other way, they're
- 1:00:14Speaker 3: never wearing their tennis shoes carrying the rollerblades. Yeah, there's
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: a couple scenes. They just magically appear when they need rollerblades.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: They were never wearing Chucks. I would have never noticed.
- 1:00:20Speaker 5: There was a couple scenes where Corey had his rollerblades
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: slung over his shoulder.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: In the beginning, like when it was part of that,
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: like coming out of that scene. But the other times,
- 1:00:28Speaker 3: they would just magically switch out because they needed that
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: to be the next scene. It's like, oh, you need
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: to be wearing rollerblades now. Go put them on.
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: He's wearing like Heelys. Blade Heels.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: If only in 1990 we could have seen the future
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: that is Heelys.
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: Yeah. Good lord.
- 1:00:45Speaker 5: Yeah, there's just so much weird stuff going on in
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: this movie.
- 1:00:49Speaker 3: That is my favorite part, is the dystopian future. Now, granted,
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: I'm a sucker for any dystopian future.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: But I was suckered in. It made me remember this
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: one because I recently watched Solar Babies. What the fuck
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: is that?
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: That sounds awful.
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: No, it's got your boy Lucas Haas in it.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: Give me a second. He was a lady in white.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: I was trying to think of some other things that
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: he did.
- 1:01:14Speaker 3: It was right around that same time. He's still the
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: little kid in that. It's got the previously mentioned Jamie
- 1:01:21Speaker 3: Girtz that I keep trying to sell people and how
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: cool she is. Everybody was like, Jamie who?
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: Hey, Lost Boys.
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: See, that's what I said. I was like, have you
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: not seen Lost Boys?
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Star, was that her name?
- 1:01:32Speaker 3: Yeah, Star. Isn't it Jason Patrick in that too? Maybe not.
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: Maybe I'm delusional. It's got Peter DeLuise. Everybody's in that movie.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: Solar Baby?
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: Yeah. At the time, it was kind of a, I
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: won't say big release, but it had enough backing to
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: pull those people in and create a dystopian future, which
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: is mostly desert.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: They should have given it a better name.
- 1:01:55Speaker 3: Oh, no. It's stupid. Even in there, they make fun
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: of it because the bad guys have a team of rollerblading.
- 1:02:01Speaker 3: They're just regular roller skates, but they have roller skating
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: future sport people. And they're like, the Scorpions, because they're cool.
- 1:02:09Speaker 3: And even they're like, why did you name yourself Roller
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: for Solar Babies? That's dumb. So it is a dumb name.
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: It's awful.
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: But it takes place in some past future world where
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: it's just desert everywhere. And there's orphan kids living out
- 1:02:26Speaker 3: in what is essentially a prison out in the middle
- 1:02:28Speaker 3: of nowhere. And then kind of the most we get
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: of a city is sort of like Barter Town in Thunderdome.
- 1:02:35Speaker 3: It's just sort of a ramshackle burning rubber to survive
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: and trading shit. So it's even more dystopian. So I've
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: watched them both now and I've decided this is the prequel.
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: So this is the end of the 90s when everything
- 1:02:51Speaker 3: started falling apart. And then you fast forward several generations
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: and you get to Solar Babies.
- 1:02:56Speaker 5: They're just all hanging out at Santa Cruz and Venice
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: Beach and stuff.
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: Or Santa Monica.
- 1:03:01Speaker 5: Santa Monica.
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: Sorry, not Santa Cruz.
- 1:03:03Speaker 9: Jesus.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Because I saw locations and I was like, oh, have
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: we been there? I want to know.
- 1:03:07Speaker 5: Yes, we've been there.
- 1:03:09Speaker 3: Well, that's what, yeah, you were like, where did they
- 1:03:10Speaker 3: film this? I was like, I think it's just regular
- 1:03:12Speaker 3: old L.A. And then they just shoved in some other crap.
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: Most of it just seems like one nudge away from
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: already in bad shape areas. They were just like, and here,
- 1:03:23Speaker 3: put this mist on your head.
- 1:03:24Speaker 5: And Yeah, you know, the homeless tents, I mean, yeah,
- 1:03:28Speaker 5: it looks pretty much like it does in the movie.
- 1:03:31Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. That's the disturbing part of this
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: movie is how much of it has come true, even
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: more so than it was in 1990.
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, we're not into the full-fledged race war yet.
- 1:03:42Speaker 3: We got pretty damn close this past year.
- 1:03:45Speaker 5: We don't have... you know and his little he's wearing
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: rollerblades his little.
- 1:03:49Speaker 3: Tv speech in front of the american flag about making
- 1:03:53Speaker 3: america great again essentially i was like fuck did we
- 1:03:56Speaker 3: not just get out of this it's it's got moments
- 1:04:00Speaker 3: that i'm like this is a little disturbing now actually
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: trying to save the country from you know those foreigners
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: coming in and taking over i'm like oh jesus really
- 1:04:10Speaker 3: like I'm just.
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: Trying to figure out, was there stuff that was cut
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: from the movie? Because I was reading the Wikipedia plot summary,
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: and there's stuff in the plot summary that I'm like... See,
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: when I.
- 1:04:19Speaker 3: Watched that first time, I was like, they're really kind
- 1:04:22Speaker 3: of two-thirds of the way in before they get to
- 1:04:25Speaker 3: the point of like, oh, and by the way, they're
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: horrible racists. Like, in the beginning, it's sort of like,
- 1:04:30Speaker 3: they got long coats and they synchronize rollerblades.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: I couldn't figure it out.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: Like, they're just kind of like, he says, like, Corey
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: keeps going, like, stay away from them. They're trouble. But, like,
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: they never really elaborate for the first time. half of
- 1:04:42Speaker 3: the movie.
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: I just thought they were trouble because they were selling drugs.
- 1:04:44Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:04:45Speaker 3: That's what I thought too. Then later they're drug pushers
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: and it's like, all right, that's bad.
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: We found out there were rival gangs.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: Yeah, which again is just gang war in LA.
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: Yeah, but then you start, I mean, you start picking
- 1:04:56Speaker 5: up subtle hints because you notice all the guys in
- 1:04:58Speaker 5: the roller boys are all white and all the people
- 1:05:01Speaker 5: that they're attacking are usually Mexican, Asian, African American.
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: That was kind of the mixture of, yeah, the gang
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: seemed like they were a mixture of Asian and Mexican. So,
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: I guess they joined together to fight off the weird
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: white people. Yeah, I mean, when I watched it that
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: first time, I was like, I was more, I noticed
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: more of like, well, they're all freaking like sexist because
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: you notice they're doing roller girls. And they're only recruiting
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: the weird little boys. Like they're not bringing in all
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: of the kids for the next generation.
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: Well, yeah, they're using them to push the drugs.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:05:33Speaker 5: So they don't get caught.
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: But they're still just like, we just want the boys.
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: We don't like girls or anyone else, by the way.
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: but we're not going to get to that for like
- 1:05:41Speaker 3: 45 minutes. Yeah. Then we'll let you know.
- 1:05:43Speaker 5: Then they have camps that all the people are living in.
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:05:46Speaker 5: They never really go into the camps.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: Well, again, that's why I think is this, that's the
- 1:05:51Speaker 3: part of this I think is cool. It is dystopian,
- 1:05:54Speaker 3: but like they don't spell out. It's all kind of
- 1:05:57Speaker 3: in the background.
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:05:58Speaker 3: And there's like no rhyme or reason to it because
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: I'm like, some of it just looks like homeless camp prison, like,
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: Everything is completely falling apart. And then they switch you
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: over and it's like, okay, but there's a police station
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: still that seems functional.
- 1:06:14Speaker 5: Well, yeah, they've been defunded.
- 1:06:16Speaker 3: But then they go to the hospital and I'm like, okay,
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: so there's kind of a functional hospital. They just can't
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: afford lighting. It's a really dark hospital, but he's still
- 1:06:23Speaker 3: hooked up to equipment that has power running to it.
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: So I'm like, how much is falling apart and how
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: much hasn't?
- 1:06:30Speaker 5: Like, I don't get it. During part of it, You
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: notice that his little brother's kind of like, you know,
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: if we don't have money, or either Corey, I can't
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: remember which one is there, talk about, you know, if
- 1:06:40Speaker 5: we don't have money, we're going to end up in
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: the camp.
- 1:06:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: So I'm assuming that people that don't have money or
- 1:06:45Speaker 5: that lost their houses and jobs, they're homeless, so they
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: live in the camp. you know and again where we they.
- 1:06:52Speaker 3: We're just not that organized yeah everybody makes their own
- 1:06:55Speaker 3: ramshackle camp now instead of the government stepping in and
- 1:06:58Speaker 3: be like look we're gonna lock you in a camp
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: you're cool with that right yeah that's the next step
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: the future that is 1990 though.
- 1:07:05Speaker 8: Oh after the great crash i do again they're making
- 1:07:10Speaker 8: their little commentaries because we're also coming out of Like
- 1:07:14Speaker 8: the 80s is the decade of greed.
- 1:07:17Speaker 3: Yes. The greed is good. Wall Street, you know, that
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: rule like ruled that whole decade. So now we get
- 1:07:23Speaker 3: to 1990. The only way we can make a comment
- 1:07:26Speaker 3: is be like, our parents were horrible. They were greedy.
- 1:07:28Speaker 3: And because they were so greedy, our entire system collapsed.
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: Way to go.
- 1:07:33Speaker 5: Yeah. It's the age of excess.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: Yeah. So I like that's kind of their little comeback
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: as we enter into this new decade. the wonder that's
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: going to be the 90s.
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: So what about the 90s? The 90s, like us as
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: far as being parents, do kids look at us and go,
- 1:07:49Speaker 5: I mean, they can't look at us and go, you
- 1:07:50Speaker 5: guys are greedy, you can't crash the system. Or are
- 1:07:53Speaker 5: they just like, you guys were slackers and you didn't
- 1:07:55Speaker 5: fucking do anything except for start podcasts.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: Yes. But even that took you 25 years.
- 1:08:02Speaker 5: Yeah, really.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: You just sat around and didn't do anything for a
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: long time. And got crappy jobs and didn't accumulate any money.
- 1:08:10Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: And now, look at you.
- 1:08:13Speaker 5: Yeah, really.
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: Okay, that was just me. But there is a lot
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: of that generation that is in a weird, different spot.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: That is the one thing I read online that I
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: thought was pretty funny. They were like, Because everybody's always
- 1:08:28Speaker 3: going by the whole generational thing. And they're just like,
- 1:08:31Speaker 3: the greatest generation and fighting the war and killing Nazis.
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: And then you get to the millennials have got everything
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: figured out because they're super cool. And they were like,
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: the pandemic set in. And they were like, finally, the
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: era for Gen Xers. Yeah. Because you have to be isolated. Yeah.
- 1:08:47Speaker 3: You just sit at home and watch your multimedia, which
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: you've spent your entire life doing nothing. Like you're completely
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: disconnected from everyone while the rest of the world is
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: freaking out because they're not used to that. You've been
- 1:08:59Speaker 3: doing that. since you were a teenager you're fine yeah
- 1:09:03Speaker 3: so yeah i was like well yeah our weird angry
- 1:09:07Speaker 3: but not that angry enough to do anything about it
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: generation finally found our calling sitting in our house by
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: ourselves watching dvds marathoning through shit yeah Not interacting with
- 1:09:19Speaker 3: other humans. That's what we were made to do.
- 1:09:22Speaker 5: I've actually kind of done that more. I kind of
- 1:09:26Speaker 5: got rid of, well, I didn't get rid of my
- 1:09:29Speaker 5: social media stuff, but I've gotten to the point where
- 1:09:31Speaker 5: I don't really check it hardly at all.
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: I don't. I interact with you and occasionally one or
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: two other people, but other than that, it's just, hey,
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: here's the new episode. That's the only thing I do
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: with it is tell you guys, hey, I'm making this
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: new episode. Here it is. Listen to it.
- 1:09:48Speaker 5: I don't really go out and hang out with people.
- 1:09:50Speaker 5: It's just hanging out with Misty.
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: Yep. I just make weird comments on her Instagram. I'm like,
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: that is too many damn books.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: Go on somewhere. There ain't no such thing as too
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: many damn books.
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: Yeah, you ought to take a tour of the library now.
- 1:10:05Speaker 3: Do I need a card?
- 1:10:07Speaker 5: Because that's what it is.
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: I mean, I have a card for the state-run version.
- 1:10:11Speaker 5: I joked about her coming up with a card catalog.
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: I made a comment on Instagram about it.
- 1:10:16Speaker 5: A Dewey Decimal system.
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: I was like, I keep finding them in places, and
- 1:10:20Speaker 3: I'm taking pictures of them. I'm going, Misty, you need this.
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: She's like, I need more shelves. Shut up. Yeah.
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: Holy shit, my mind was just blown.
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: What?
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: It's a guy, Gary Lee, in Sleepaway Camp.
- 1:10:35Speaker 3: He's the other little kid.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: He's Paul.
- 1:10:39Speaker 5: The other little kid.
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: He's the one who's like.
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: Go back in time to when he's like 11 or
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: whatever he was.
- 1:10:43Speaker 2: He's like hitting on....
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: He's not the cousin. He's the other kid that's into her. Oh, yeah.
- 1:10:52Speaker 5: Okay.
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: See, it's funny.
- 1:10:54Speaker 5: He looked familiar.
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: That's the thing. He was the one I sat there
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: the whole time watching it going. That first time through,
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: I was just like, is that him? Because he was
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: like half the stuff I watched repeatedly in the 80s
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: was his stuff. There were so many times I watched
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: Firstborn because it was just on cable all the time.
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: I remember renting it on VHS and then it was
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: on cable nonstop after that. So it's like I watched
- 1:11:22Speaker 3: that so many times. And then he's also in The
- 1:11:26Speaker 3: Manhattan Project, which I thought, you know, there's a science nerd.
- 1:11:30Speaker 3: Before it was cool to be a science nerd, he was, like,
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: going to blow up, like, a good portion of the country.
- 1:11:35Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:11:36Speaker 3: Yeah. I thought that guy was super cool in the 80s.
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: And I still feel like he pulls off what he's
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: doing in this movie. Like, as ridiculous as everything is
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: going on, like, if it was a different actor, you'd really, like,
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: the whole thing would be a joke. I think his
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: performance is pretty solid. Like, I buy him as that
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: crazy dude.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know about his rollerblading, and his
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: shooting kind of sucks. But as a leader, like, I
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: buy his craziness. Like, he kind of sells that performance.
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: I think he did a good job.
- 1:12:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: Well, there's a part on the Wikipedia that still doesn't
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: make sense to me. It has a little breakdown, I
- 1:12:12Speaker 2: guess a little part of the description. A heavily armed
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: white supremacist conglomerate known as the Rollerboys fight for control
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: of the decaying city. Their director is charismatic narcotics kingpin
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: Gary Lee, a childhood neighbor of Griffin's, who was also
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: rumored to be the great-grandson of Adolf Hitler. Is that
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: mentioned or addressed in any way?
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: All of those other things are true, and they're mentioned
- 1:12:32Speaker 3: in the movie. That last part is mentioned on the
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: Wikipedia page.
- 1:12:37Speaker 2: The Rollerboys carry out their mission of restoring Anglo-Americans' former greatness.
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: through violent battles with other gangs, and through the distribution
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: of Heaven Mist. Was it called Heaven Mist?
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: Yeah, it was called Heaven Mist.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: I thought it was just Mist.
- 1:12:48Speaker 5: Because he was going to take him to Heaven.
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't remember him saying it like that, but
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: he does say he takes him to Heaven.
- 1:12:53Speaker 5: They just call it The Mist.
- 1:12:54Speaker 3: And they're all on The Mist.
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: Well, Heaven Mist is in quotation marks.
- 1:12:57Speaker 3: Again, that was probably from the first draft. And then
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: they were just like, we're just kind of on Mist.
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: No, I think they said Heaven Mist in the beginning.
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: Did they?
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: The very beginning part when they mention it. But then
- 1:13:07Speaker 5: the rest of the movie, they just refer to it
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: as The Mist.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: Back to the dystopian future part. I'm just glad that
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: even in the dystopian future, they still have pizza delivery
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: because I would be so worried about that.
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: See, that's the thing. I wasn't worried about The Mist.
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: I was busy going, I want a pizza. Bring your
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: chain-length covered van over and bring me some Pinky's Pizza,
- 1:13:24Speaker 3: damn it.
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: Pinky's Pizazz.
- 1:13:28Speaker 3: I do like, I mean, again, it's still, that's what
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: I think is so awesome about this is the normalcy
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: of here's the pizzas, go make your deliveries in your
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: Mad Max looking van covered in chain length and you
- 1:13:39Speaker 3: hand him an automatic weapon. You're like, here you go,
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: now don't take any shit from anybody. Tell him if
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: you need to, come back here with my money. It's
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: such a weird mixture of total post-apocalyptic craziness and then
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: regular run-of-the-mill stuff. It's insanity.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: So, did Corey do his own stunts?
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: So, I know you mentioned that as soon as it
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: starts and we see him all rollerblading around. I remembered
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: I'd gone back to look through the interesting facts on
- 1:14:14Speaker 3: this movie. And there are lots of interesting facts. Not
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: that many listed here. But in general, there's a lot
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: of crazy bullshit going on. But it does say Corey
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: Haim did most of his own stunts in the film.
- 1:14:27Speaker 3: That's what it says. That's how much they elaborated that
- 1:14:30Speaker 3: one sentence. So, when you saw him skating, that was
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: totally him. When you saw him doing that flying spinning thing,
- 1:14:37Speaker 3: probably not him.
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: How about the thing where he jumped and grabbed his
- 1:14:40Speaker 2: ankle and pulled and arched? Was that him too?
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: Yeah. See, there were several times when he does that.
- 1:14:45Speaker 3: when he jumps up and then you realize like from
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: like your mind doing it, that probably seems super awesome.
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: And if you would have landed wrong, it would have
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: killed you. But then to see it from the outside,
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: you get like six inches of air and you're like,
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: that kind of looked lame, dude. But that's rollerblading in general.
- 1:15:01Speaker 3: That's not him.
- 1:15:02Speaker 5: That's not really that hard. There's a reason why, there's
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: a reason why all the skaters made fun of rollerbladers
- 1:15:09Speaker 5: because it wasn't hard. But they look so cool. Yeah,
- 1:15:13Speaker 5: you know, I did a couple of those jumps and
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: I was just like, this is stupid.
- 1:15:16Speaker 3: Why am I doing this?
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: You are hurting the feelings of so many roller boys
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: out there.
- 1:15:22Speaker 5: There ain't nobody out there rollerblading anymore.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: We saw that chick just last weekend.
- 1:15:26Speaker 5: I am not hurting her feelings.
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: Maybe it was Blades. I wonder what happened.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Were we in Columbus at this point?
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: Nobody cares about my opinion.
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: She could have moved away.
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: My opinion's trash.
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: It's not like anybody listens anyways.
- 1:15:38Speaker 3: Nobody cares.
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: Nobody listens to me. Yeah, so I switched to a
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: BMX bike, and then I got hit by a car.
- 1:15:48Speaker 3: That's what happened.
- 1:15:51Speaker 5: I haven't had much luck with bicycles. Or blows to
- 1:15:57Speaker 5: the head? Every time I've been on a bicycle, I've
- 1:16:00Speaker 5: gotten hit by either a car or a truck.
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: Including the exercise bike in the kitchen.
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: This explains so much.
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: Fucking truck came out of nowhere. Right through the back door.
- 1:16:11Speaker 3: Just like Corey did. Yeah, I know. Ran that van
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: right into a building.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: He saved that guy who was kind of an asshole.
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: That guy's bullwinkle was an asshole the whole movie.
- 1:16:20Speaker 5: Thanks for saving me.
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: God, that guy was a dick. I wish I would
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: have let him in there to burn. That would have
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: saved so much trouble in the long run.
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: Really? And then by the end, just to make fun
- 1:16:30Speaker 3: of Bullwinkle some more, but when he's in the apartment,
- 1:16:33Speaker 3: right when he's busting them for being cops, He's like,
- 1:16:36Speaker 3: I saved your life. And he's like, who asked you, dude?
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: I'm like, actually, you did. In the building when you
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: were screaming, get me out of here. Get me out
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: of here. I was like, dumbass. It was you. Bullwinkle sucks.
- 1:16:50Speaker 2: And he just opened the door. There was a door.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: I know. I was just like, I'm not sure. And
- 1:16:54Speaker 3: then I still, I said, as he did it, I
- 1:16:56Speaker 3: was like, Corey, now get the van out of there
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: and it won't catch on fire. You'll have busted up
- 1:17:01Speaker 3: the back a little bit, but it wouldn't be trashed.
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: Maybe it was wedged in there.
- 1:17:05Speaker 5: He didn't attempt to get it out.
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: No, he just got out with Bullwinkle and then stood
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: there and waited to get arrested. Hurry up and arrest me.
- 1:17:12Speaker 2: How annoying was his kid brother, though?
- 1:17:15Speaker 3: From the very first scene, as he came up, I
- 1:17:17Speaker 3: was like, he's not going to get any better. He's
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: going to be a little sexist bastard, and he's going
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: to be a junkie. I don't like that kid. I'm
- 1:17:25Speaker 3: not like my dad! I don't like it. I don't
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: like that kid. He's annoying. Let's see. Where do we
- 1:17:38Speaker 3: want to hit?
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: We want to hit the Leonard, was it Leonard Maltin?
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: Where am I getting that name from?
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: One of you have this.
- 1:17:45Speaker 3: Surprisingly, like, higher than I thought. Leonard is not a
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: fan of violence, so that's where it takes a turn
- 1:17:51Speaker 3: at the end there, but I read it earlier. Go ahead.
- 1:17:54Speaker 5: What?
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: He's not a horror movie fan in general, so you'll
- 1:17:57Speaker 3: see when it gets to the end of it.
- 1:17:58Speaker 2: Well, first of all, this is from the Wikipedia. The
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: film was nominated for two Saturn Awards, Best Performance by
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: a Younger Actor, Corey Haim, and Best Science Fiction.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: I mean, dystopian future, that's usually sidebar. Kind of like
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: Mad Max-ish.
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: Movie historian Leonard Maltin gave the film 2.5 out of
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: a possible four stars. And I quote, a provocative setting
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: and some clever bits of dark comedy are weakened by
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: needlessly excessive violence. Christopher, is it Collet?
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: I don't know if I've ever heard it said. I've
- 1:18:29Speaker 3: just watched him and stuff since I grew up.
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: The Gary Lee.
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: Yeah, Gary Lee.
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: As usual, projects enough magnetism for 10... but not even
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: he can counteract a painfully predictable finale.
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: See, I agree with pretty much all of that. I
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: don't have a problem with the violence that Leonard does,
- 1:18:47Speaker 3: but otherwise, who saw us?
- 1:18:50Speaker 9: Blade-off happen in this movie? Who saw the pole come
- 1:18:54Speaker 9: out of nowhere where Corey could get that awesome kick in?
- 1:18:57Speaker 9: Or that flying move where they both landed on their hips.
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: And I was like, ow, hips!
- 1:19:03Speaker 5: Happens all the time in Rollerblading.
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: He didn't get some air as he landed on his hip.
- 1:19:08Speaker 3: I was like, oh. Dude, when you're an old man,
- 1:19:11Speaker 3: if that happened, you would have had that hip replacement, dude. Like,
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: no way you would have come out of that. Well,
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: Cory was young. He could just bounce back. Probably.
- 1:19:18Speaker 7: 19, 20, gorgeous.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 1:19:20Speaker 3: Skinny as a stick.
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: Do all the stupid stuff while you're young.
- 1:19:24Speaker 2: Because when you get old, you get hurt getting out
- 1:19:26Speaker 2: of bed.
- 1:19:27Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. Like, I just watched him fall
- 1:19:30Speaker 3: on his hip. I was like, dude. You would be
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: screwed if you weren't 19 years old.
- 1:19:33Speaker 2: I heard just seeing him do it.
- 1:19:35Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: Just watching him rollerblade, and I'm like, I don't even
- 1:19:37Speaker 2: know if I can.
- 1:19:37Speaker 5: Do my ankles.
- 1:19:38Speaker 3: Hurt your back and above the couch. So, I will
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: definitely say they, if you want to consider whatever happened
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: in this movie, but just casting-wise, they lucked out at
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: just the right time if they're looking back going, man,
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: we got Patricia Arquette in this movie. Like, you give
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: it a couple years and she's in way bigger stuff. Like,
- 1:20:00Speaker 3: there's no way in hell she would have done this
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: movie just a few years in the future. She would
- 1:20:05Speaker 3: have been like, nope. No thanks. Because this was right
- 1:20:09Speaker 3: before she kind of crossed over.
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: And it had Mark Pellegrino! Whose name I probably just
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: said wrong. Everybody else would know. I'm pretty sure. Wasn't
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: he Lucifer in Supernatural?
- 1:20:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: I don't know. I gave up before the last 14 seasons.
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: Dude, seriously. There have been so many seasons.
- 1:20:26Speaker 6: We.
- 1:20:27Speaker 2: We quit like three or four or ten seasons ago.
- 1:20:29Speaker 2: I don't know. I lost track.
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: I was trying to see what the big crossover for
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: her was.
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: Yeah, what was it?
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: Because to me, I'm thinking like true romance. She was
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: definitely like, okay, she's going to be huge. I mean, really,
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: I remember Nightmare on Elm Street, Dream Warriors. Like, that's
- 1:20:46Speaker 3: kind of that first thing that she's like, recognizably, okay,
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: she's going to be a big star. But that was,
- 1:20:51Speaker 3: so that's 87. But then she does a lot of other, like,
- 1:20:56Speaker 3: smaller stuff but yeah you get to this movie she's
- 1:21:01Speaker 3: in an episode of tales from the crypt that same
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: year so this is a good year but yeah 93
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: is true romance and i'd say from that point on she's.
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: Hugely what was she in after true romance uh.
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: She's in ed wood she's in holy matrimony was one
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: of those i saw at the video store all the
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: time i still barely maybe i.
- 1:21:21Speaker 5: Watched her cable.
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: Flirting with disaster then lost highways like 97 she's huge
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: by then night watch stigmata bringing out the dead oh
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: god little Nikki never mind so at that point it's
- 1:21:37Speaker 3: all over but like she became like super huge in
- 1:21:41Speaker 3: the 90s so the fact that they snagged her right
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: before when you could still like sucker her into doing
- 1:21:47Speaker 3: low budget stuff yep so good score guys.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: And Corey was good in this.
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: Yeah, when you said something about it, I was like,
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: Corey comes out pretty good. Especially being lead, like most
- 1:22:01Speaker 3: of the movie, you're just following him around. It hardly
- 1:22:04Speaker 3: ever takes a shot away from him. So I think
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: he comes out pretty good in this.
- 1:22:10Speaker 2: I was like, if you're going to make fun of Corey,
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: I don't think we can do it.
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: Because I can't. There's nothing to make fun of except
- 1:22:15Speaker 3: he's just a skinny little kid. When they try to
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: do the love scene, I'm like, oh man, he just
- 1:22:19Speaker 3: looks like he's still looks so damn young. I know
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: he said he's like 20, but he looks 16. He's
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: so young.
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: Yeah, he's like 19, 20. Yeah, he's pretty young.
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: But I will give you credit. You said you wanted
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: a brush, but I'm like, there's few people that can
- 1:22:34Speaker 3: make that hair work.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: He kind of does.
- 1:22:37Speaker 3: Even as ridiculous. As crazy as it is, the whole
- 1:22:41Speaker 3: damn movie.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: Gary Lee's hair was perfection.
- 1:22:44Speaker 5: Because he's evil. The drug guy.
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: He made a deal with Nazis and now.
- 1:22:50Speaker 5: He's got perfect hair. But he's the head guy, so
- 1:22:51Speaker 5: he can afford hair.
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: Yeah, Bullwinkle looks stupid the whole time.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: He looks like he at least had a brush.
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: He had a brush. He did have a brush compared
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: to Corey's wild craziness.
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: He had like a bandana.
- 1:23:03Speaker 3: Occasionally, he bandana'd. That one time, he put it all
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: the way over. He babooshed it into spots.
- 1:23:07Speaker 5: That's what I'm going to do.
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: No, you're not.
- 1:23:09Speaker 5: I mean, my hair is already... This is pandemic hair.
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: Old man mafia hair. It's not.
- 1:23:19Speaker 5: It's just gray.
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: You can do a bandana and just wear it around
- 1:23:21Speaker 2: and just spike it up.
- 1:23:23Speaker 4: I am.
- 1:23:23Speaker 5: Totally. It's going to shave it all the way around,
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: but just leave the top.
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: Super cool.
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: At this point, it might be an improvement, dude.
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:23:32Speaker 5: Either that or just grow the full mullet out.
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: Speaking of getting somebody at just the right time, how
- 1:23:40Speaker 3: the hell they scored nine-inch nails on the soundtrack, I
- 1:23:42Speaker 3: don't know.
- 1:23:43Speaker 2: Was there actually a soundtrack for this?
- 1:23:45Speaker 3: I mean, they had that other song that kind of
- 1:23:48Speaker 3: sounded like a band that I knew, but it's not
- 1:23:50Speaker 3: that band. They were just trying to sound like that.
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: They had that one song that sounded a little bit
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: like NXS.
- 1:23:54Speaker 3: See, that's what I said. I was listening to it going,
- 1:23:56Speaker 3: I know that's not Michael's voice, but it sounds like
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: they're trying really hard to sound like NXS.
- 1:24:01Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 1:24:03Speaker 5: I thought I heard some chili peppers in there, too.
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: Me, too. That was probably just them hanging around in
- 1:24:07Speaker 3: the background.
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: Yeah, probably.
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: They probably had nothing else to do. They were under
- 1:24:10Speaker 3: the bridge doing drugs and shit. Literally.
- 1:24:13Speaker 5: Let's see.
- 1:24:14Speaker 3: Soundtrack. No, wait. Now we're still on her.
- 1:24:17Speaker 2: Soundtrack. Well, it's got eight songs listed.
- 1:24:22Speaker 3: I've got a few soundtracks that short.
- 1:24:24Speaker 5: You don't recognize anybody?
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: Aside from Nine Inch Nails.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: That's what I said. Listening to it, I didn't recognize
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: any other big songs.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: Hell to Pay. Like hell, toupee, like a hair, like
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: a wig.
- 1:24:36Speaker 5: Yeah, hell, toupee.
- 1:24:37Speaker 3: Is that the name of the band?
- 1:24:38Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:24:39Speaker 6: Nice.
- 1:24:40Speaker 2: The name of the song is Pipe Dream.
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: Of course.
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: Performed by hell, toupee.
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: Hilarious. Turbo Negro has a song out called Hell, Toupee.
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: There's a song that looks like it's some kind of,
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: I could try to say it.
- 1:24:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:24:55Speaker 2: Parven pour un fente da fonte.
- 1:24:58Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:24:59Speaker 3: That was when the other gang was hanging out.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: I was performed by Zelma Bodgson.
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: I thought it was like 89 for Pretty Hate Machine.
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: So yeah, they got this right as that came out.
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: Right before, just when the weirdo kids were listening to
- 1:25:15Speaker 3: it in the basement club somewhere. They were like, yeah,
- 1:25:18Speaker 3: we can still afford this. This will wipe out the
- 1:25:20Speaker 3: rest of our music. Even then, they were like, this
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: is all the money we got left. Buy that song.
- 1:25:25Speaker 5: At the time, Trent Reznor was like, here, just somebody,
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: you're going to put my song in a movie?
- 1:25:28Speaker 3: Hell yeah. Can I stand in the background? Yeah.
- 1:25:30Speaker 2: There's a couple of songs.
- 1:25:31Speaker 3: I still like to do that.
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: Written and performed by Steve Schiff, Mr. Nagatu, and Voice
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: of Seth. Maybe that's just some of the instrumental shit.
- 1:25:39Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: Skating music, you know.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: King Kong 5, written and performed by Mano Negra.
- 1:25:46Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:25:48Speaker 2: Plays at the Asian Gang Street Party.
- 1:25:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:25:50Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. slow-mo the slow-mo skate by.
- 1:25:53Speaker 5: Yeah skate by shooting where they're all synchronized skating and
- 1:26:00Speaker 5: they're all wearing their they do kind of have a
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: little bit of a a weird dress code it's well.
- 1:26:09Speaker 3: I mean it is like you can see if they
- 1:26:11Speaker 3: would have leaned into that more there could have been
- 1:26:13Speaker 3: like their weird little like Nazi, let's all dress alike. Again,
- 1:26:18Speaker 3: they never fully went there with it. They were just like,
- 1:26:21Speaker 3: these are our weird outfits.
- 1:26:25Speaker 2: Pleats.
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: I'm not down with the pleats. And they were way
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: too high. I know your zoot suit pants you're supposed
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: to wear high, but I don't care. They look dorky
- 1:26:32Speaker 3: on those guys.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: I didn't finish the soundtrack. There's one more song. Blown Away,
- 1:26:37Speaker 2: performed by Swamp King. That plays during the montage showing
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: Griffin and Bango's work day.
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: Oh, Bango was working. He was doing chin-ups for a
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: second at the drug lab.
- 1:26:50Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: That was before he drank the beer and threw it
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: on the ground. But he wasn't supposed to have it.
- 1:26:56Speaker 3: Even though it was in the cooler. It was sitting
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: in there.
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: Whatever, dude.
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: But no, on the all of them wearing those outfits,
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: that was the other interesting fact that I'm like, they
- 1:27:09Speaker 3: really bothered to put that in here? So they're Okay,
- 1:27:14Speaker 3: here we go. Here's what they put in the trivia
- 1:27:16Speaker 3: section on IMDb. 78 black shirts were used in rotation
- 1:27:22Speaker 3: for the Roller Boys uniforms due to how sweaty they
- 1:27:25Speaker 3: became during filming. So all that synchronized rollerblading is sweaty business.
- 1:27:32Speaker 5: Well, they were wearing trench coats, too, so what do
- 1:27:34Speaker 5: you expect?
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: Yeah, they're sitting there in the sun on the beach
- 1:27:38Speaker 3: in a trench coat and a black jacket or black shirt, sweating.
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: We forgot. The most disturbing part of this movie. The
- 1:27:47Speaker 3: thing that overwhelmed all of us.
- 1:27:50Speaker 2: Which part? Hold on.
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: Watching him run up the stairs in Rollerblades.
- 1:27:54Speaker 2: How do you fucking run up stairs in Rollerblades? I
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: was like, wait, hold on.
- 1:27:57Speaker 3: Corey, Corey, what are you doing? It's kind of hard.
- 1:27:59Speaker 5: You're not safe. It's kind of hard.
- 1:28:02Speaker 2: I can't run up stairs with shoes on. I'm going
- 1:28:06Speaker 2: to trip and hurt myself. You go for wheels at
- 1:28:09Speaker 2: the bottom of my feet and I'm going to die.
- 1:28:11Speaker 3: Mm-hmm. That was the most impressive stunt of the whole
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: damn movie. Running upstairs. Now that was before they got
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: into the big file cabinet shove-off. They was hiding in
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: them file cabinets, boy. Why is there just like an
- 1:28:27Speaker 3: airplane hangar with file cabinets in it?
- 1:28:29Speaker 5: You know, just storing some stuff. Just random office supplies.
- 1:28:35Speaker 3: Wouldn't you hate, you're like the intern and they're like, look,
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: we got some stuff filed we need you to go get.
- 1:28:39Speaker 3: It's on the other side of town in an airplane hangar.
- 1:28:42Speaker 3: Now go look under C and then come back and
- 1:28:45Speaker 3: bring those back to me.
- 1:28:46Speaker 5: My favorite is when they have warehouses that they have
- 1:28:48Speaker 5: to use for scenes where they have stuff that's got
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: to be in there, but you know it's an empty
- 1:28:53Speaker 5: warehouse and they don't have a budget for a lot
- 1:28:55Speaker 5: of stuff. So they just get a bunch of empty
- 1:28:57Speaker 5: cardboard boxes and tape them up. And then, of course,
- 1:28:59Speaker 5: they always get shoved over on the guy.
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: Yeah, crates and boxes. But, yeah, they can't afford the
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: stuff in it, so it's just empty.
- 1:29:06Speaker 5: So the guy gets crushed underneath the empty cardboard.
- 1:29:08Speaker 3: He's like, ah! And it lands like an empty cardboard box.
- 1:29:12Speaker 3: And you're like, why are you yelling, dude? That weighs
- 1:29:14Speaker 3: four ounces.
- 1:29:16Speaker 5: Just act like he got crushed.
- 1:29:19Speaker 3: The other thing on the, when he goes into heaven,
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: when he goes into the... Trailer. Trailer. The fancy, fancy trailer.
- 1:29:27Speaker 2: Where was the bathroom? They're in there all goddamn day.
- 1:29:29Speaker 3: Well, my thing is, again, okay, so what's his name?
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: Jerry Lee? Jimmy Lee?
- 1:29:34Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:29:35Speaker 2: Gary?
- 1:29:35Speaker 3: Gary Lee. Gary Lee's in charge of all of this,
- 1:29:38Speaker 3: but he's put himself so much in charge that his
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: hand is the only thing that will open that door.
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: Where's the bathroom?
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: He's got three shift changes. That means three times a day,
- 1:29:49Speaker 3: every day, he has to drive back out there just
- 1:29:51Speaker 3: to let some idiot out. And put some other idiot
- 1:29:54Speaker 3: in there. Yeah. And then you go home and, what,
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: take a nap and come back eight hours later and
- 1:29:57Speaker 3: do it? I'm like, that's just bad planning on your part, man.
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: You gotta get some other.
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: But then how did the bad guys get in? How
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: did the.
- 1:30:04Speaker 3: They blew it up, didn't they?
- 1:30:05Speaker 5: Yeah, they blew up the door.
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: Oh, is that what happened?
- 1:30:06Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:30:07Speaker 3: They blew it up and came running in. Yeah. Which,
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: those two... Let me just.
- 1:30:12Speaker 2: Let's stop.
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: For a minute. Those two cops, I feel like they
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: were in a different movie.
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:30:17Speaker 3: The whole movie. From the very first time we see them,
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: they start this weird delivery that I'm like, what... what
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: are you guys doing? Like nobody in this movie has
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: been doing this thing that you're doing right now. And
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: like every scene they're in, they still continue to do
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: their weird back and forth. And it's just, their delivery
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: is just different from everything else.
- 1:30:35Speaker 5: It seems like a different cop movie.
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: Yeah. I'm just like, we're not doing this style of movie.
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: Did you not see all the rollerblades and shit?
- 1:30:41Speaker 2: We're like, yeah, those cops were not wearing rollerblades at
- 1:30:44Speaker 2: any point.
- 1:30:44Speaker 3: You're doing it wrong.
- 1:30:45Speaker 5: They're like in some weird buddy cop.
- 1:30:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:30:48Speaker 5: Cause there's that weird scene where they're listening in on the,
- 1:30:51Speaker 5: On the sex scene.
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: And they're making bets.
- 1:30:55Speaker 5: They're making bets on whether or not he can go
- 1:30:58Speaker 5: all the way. It's weird. It's that weird comedy.
- 1:31:03Speaker 3: It's a leftover scene from an 80s comedy that got
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: crammed into this 90s dystopian movie.
- 1:31:09Speaker 5: Yeah, it's like, what?
- 1:31:11Speaker 2: Then they're the bad guys, too.
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: They're also the bad guys.
- 1:31:15Speaker 2: They're a different level of bad guys.
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: Yeah. And they were the ones that messed it all
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: up from the get-go.
- 1:31:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: Pinky's van would have been fine if it wasn't for
- 1:31:22Speaker 3: those two.
- 1:31:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:31:24Speaker 5: What jerks.
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: If they had done a better job, then fucking Bullwinkle
- 1:31:28Speaker 2: would have died earlier.
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: Yeah, really. We wouldn't have to look at his face though.
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: Not a big fan of Bullwinkle, were you?
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: Nope.
- 1:31:33Speaker 6: Don't like him.
- 1:31:35Speaker 3: The real one, the animated one, love that guy. This one,
- 1:31:39Speaker 3: he's a dick.
- 1:31:39Speaker 6: I don't like him.
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: Has that guy done other things?
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: I don't even feel like looking.
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: I'm gonna look him up.
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: You can look him up. I'm gonna tell you how
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: much I didn't understand the reference, and yet the entire time,
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: for my own personal reasons, we had a guy that
- 1:31:55Speaker 3: used to come in the video store that we always
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: referred to as Ramrod. So I have no idea what
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: his reasoning was for nicknaming him from the first time
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: he sees him. He starts calling him Ramrod. He calls
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: him Ramrod. Every time he sees him, he calls him
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: that after that. Don't know why. Ours at least had
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: a reason. There was a guy that... Now I think
- 1:32:16Speaker 3: he's weird. Well, at the time, weird old guy. He's
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: like my age now. And I'm also weird. So like,
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: it's just me coming into the video store. And of
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: course he was, we didn't think it was weird because
- 1:32:27Speaker 3: we all watched old movies too. But he had a,
- 1:32:30Speaker 3: he would special order Joel McRae movies. He was into
- 1:32:34Speaker 3: Joel McRae. Like his dad grew up like with him,
- 1:32:38Speaker 3: took him to go see Joel McRae movies. So that
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: was like his thing. But he at one point special
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: ordered the movie Ramrod, which I'm guessing is a western
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: starring Joel McRae. And from that point on, we referred
- 1:32:48Speaker 3: to that guy as Ramrod. So now every time I'm like,
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: I wonder what happened to that guy. He was actually
- 1:32:55Speaker 3: pretty cool. Even at the time, we liked him. We
- 1:32:57Speaker 3: just called him Ramrod. He was just... He didn't realize
- 1:33:01Speaker 3: what he got himself into when he ordered that. Yeah.
- 1:33:03Speaker 5: One of my co-workers, his nickname was Ramrod or Rammy. Rammy.
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: He was.
- 1:33:10Speaker 5: He was a mortar man. He was a Marine. That's
- 1:33:15Speaker 5: what he told us to call him. Let's call him
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: Rammy or Ramrod.
- 1:33:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see no important or notable movies or
- 1:33:24Speaker 2: things that Dipshit was in. He was in an episode
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: of X-Files. He was in an episode of Nash Bridges.
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: Space Above and Beyond. He seems like he's in a
- 1:33:37Speaker 2: lot of one episodes.
- 1:33:38Speaker 3: Hmm. Yeah, because they all were like, this guy's a dick.
- 1:33:41Speaker 5: Don't bring him back.
- 1:33:42Speaker 2: Fucking China Beach. I never got to watch China Beach.
- 1:33:44Speaker 2: Whenever it would come on, I'd never... It was like,
- 1:33:47Speaker 2: when the song would start, I knew it was bedtime,
- 1:33:49Speaker 2: so I had to go to bed.
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: I liked it at the time. And again, there were
- 1:33:54Speaker 3: some really cool little things that they did that were
- 1:33:57Speaker 3: sort of unconventional at the time. Now, I have not
- 1:34:01Speaker 3: revisited it, but I really liked it when it came
- 1:34:03Speaker 3: on originally. There was an interesting fact while we're going
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: into other projects. I was going to say this director,
- 1:34:12Speaker 3: Rick King, he directed a decent amount of movies, but
- 1:34:17Speaker 3: they're all kind of like, this is sort of a
- 1:34:19Speaker 3: big one. Like there's a bunch of other ones that
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: look like stuff that went straight to video. And I
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: saw it sitting on the video store. There's a few
- 1:34:27Speaker 3: of them. Like I recognize the box. There's other ones
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: that I'm just like, that is the most video store
- 1:34:32Speaker 3: looking slapped together heads on a VHS cover I've ever seen.
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: So he did a lot of these movies. I guess
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: most notable right after Prayer of the Roller Boys, he
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: did Kickboxer 3. Oh, hell yeah. The Art of War. Yeah.
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: But yeah, most of the other stuff, you wouldn't even
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: know the name if I gave them to you. The
- 1:34:53Speaker 3: one you would know, though, if you skip past his
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: directing and go back to his writing credits. One, he
- 1:35:01Speaker 3: did a couple of movies that you've never heard of.
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: His third thing that he wrote, he story credit for
- 1:35:08Speaker 3: Point Break. Huh. I guess didn't full on write the
- 1:35:12Speaker 3: screenplay because he's only listed his story. But he must
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: have done a decent amount on that story because even
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: got a story by credit for the remake that they did.
- 1:35:21Speaker 3: So they still had to go back and credit him
- 1:35:24Speaker 3: just from the concept. But yeah, other than that, most
- 1:35:27Speaker 3: of these other things he wrote, never heard of. But
- 1:35:30Speaker 3: yet somehow Point Break got in there.
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: That's a good movie. We should talk about that one
- 1:35:36Speaker 2: for a while instead.
- 1:35:38Speaker 3: Just sit and think about Point Break for a few minutes.
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: I mean, Jiminy Christmas.
- 1:35:42Speaker 5: Lori Petty, she was another one who had short hair.
- 1:35:44Speaker 3: Back in the day. She could pull it off. Not
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: the rest of her attitude or anything else she's done,
- 1:35:48Speaker 3: but she could pull off the hairstyle.
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: I didn't care about her attitude back in the day.
- 1:35:52Speaker 5: It didn't matter.
- 1:35:53Speaker 2: I kind of need to watch Tank Girl again. It's
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: been a long time since I've seen it.
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: I do need to revisit that. Again, I do like
- 1:36:00Speaker 3: my a weird dystopian future that definitely is one it's.
- 1:36:04Speaker 2: Gonna yeah i was pretty proud of my uh david
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: arquette reference in the middle i can't even well that's.
- 1:36:11Speaker 3: The sad thing is i thought it exactly well because
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: it's patricia and they're having their super deep scene as
- 1:36:18Speaker 3: they're discussing the fact that in the movie she had
- 1:36:22Speaker 3: an older brother and he was a roller boy and
- 1:36:25Speaker 3: he got killed and he was bought into all the
- 1:36:27Speaker 3: bullshit and died and got buried with his coat and
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: blah blah whatever So as she's talking to Corey, she says,
- 1:36:35Speaker 3: I love my brother. I wasn't proud of him. And
- 1:36:39Speaker 3: we were all thinking it, but you actually said, nobody's
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: proud of David Arkin.
- 1:36:46Speaker 6: Damn.
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: Beat me to it. You want reconsidered? I'd like to
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: buy more guns.
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: We will see how you manage with these first.
- 1:36:53Speaker 3: Hey, Mr. Naboro.
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: I'm told you're increasing your domestic investments substantially.
- 1:37:03Speaker 4: Buying back America.
- 1:37:06Speaker 2: Who'd want it?
- 1:37:08Speaker 3: Again, just the weird stuff going on in the background
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: that creates this messed up future that we're in. What
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: did it say in the paper? Germany buys Poland. It's
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: making up for the old war times. It's like, well,
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: we can't take you over, but we can buy you
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: these days. But then if you listen to the radio
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: when he's walking in that one time, It's talking about
- 1:37:30Speaker 3: undocumented American workers getting busted going to Mexico to find jobs. Yeah.
- 1:37:37Speaker 3: I was like, again, let's talk about how weird it
- 1:37:40Speaker 3: is that it pinpointed the future and is lampooning it
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: at the same time. Yeah. Frighteningly accurate in its own weird,
- 1:37:48Speaker 3: disturbing way.
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: Japan was buying up Harvard. They moved Harvard brick by
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: brick to Japan. Maybe China, but.
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: They bought all of the Ivy League schools.
- 1:37:58Speaker 5: Yeah, they bought all the Ivy Leagues.
- 1:37:59Speaker 3: They were starting on the Big Ten. So, yeah, America
- 1:38:02Speaker 3: was so dumb, we didn't have any colleges left.
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: They made the comment, it was like, in the future,
- 1:38:06Speaker 2: will there even be any colleges in America anymore?
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: Not in America. We're too dumb. But you can go
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: to Japan.
- 1:38:13Speaker 5: Go learn over there.
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: Oh, the other future world, that GPS they had in
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: Pinky's van.
- 1:38:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:38:19Speaker 3: It was not great, but again, we weren't really using
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: those yet in 1990. He said the same thing every
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: kid does when you handle a map now yeah what
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: do you do with it how the hell.
- 1:38:33Speaker 2: Do you use this I'd like to say that all
- 1:38:36Speaker 2: in all I enjoyed this movie aside from the imaginary
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: pain that I feel in some of the scenes but
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: yeah I.
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: Liked it a lot. Just for the crazy future world,
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: if nothing else. But then again, I think even most
- 1:38:51Speaker 3: of the performances for what they're trying to do, I
- 1:38:53Speaker 3: think our villain's really cool. I think Corey's as likable
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: as he always is. Patricia showed up. I don't know.
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: She only has so much to do in this role.
- 1:39:02Speaker 3: So was she sleeping with all the roller boys?
- 1:39:05Speaker 2: That's kind of what I got to find from her.
- 1:39:08Speaker 3: She definitely was. pretending like she will again i think
- 1:39:11Speaker 3: she's doing that same thing that every undercover cop does
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: it's like okay i gotta go so far in that
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: i look like i'm legit but at the same time
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: i don't want to do this.
- 1:39:21Speaker 5: So she says there's something she's like i've done things
- 1:39:24Speaker 5: for this that i don't want to.
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: Do so i'm sure she had to.
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: Cross a line or two along the way but she
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: still didn't seem thrilled with the fact that she was
- 1:39:32Speaker 3: doing what she was doing.
- 1:39:33Speaker 5: I don't know I thought it was enjoyable. I mean,
- 1:39:38Speaker 5: I wasn't on my phone, so. And I didn't fall asleep.
- 1:39:42Speaker 3: There you go. High five.
- 1:39:43Speaker 5: High five for me not falling asleep.
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: That was a shitty high five. There we go.
- 1:39:48Speaker 3: Now, you did comment at the end there, they weren't
- 1:39:51Speaker 3: wearing seatbelts.
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: I was concerned for the safety. He wasn't even looking
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: at the fucking road when he was- You know that?
- 1:39:55Speaker 3: Again, I said every movie, nobody looks at the fucking road.
- 1:39:58Speaker 2: And they had like a can of crushed soda sitting
- 1:40:01Speaker 2: on the dashboard, like not in a can, like- Not
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: in like a cup holder. I'm like, that's going to
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: be a sticky mess.
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: Hanging precariously on the edge. Just waiting to fall.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: It was just sitting on the dashboard, guys. It wasn't
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: even like cup holder. Just sitting there.
- 1:40:15Speaker 3: Corey, we're going to have to have a talk. You
- 1:40:18Speaker 3: know how.
- 1:40:18Speaker 2: Sticky crushed soda is when it gets in the carpet?
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: Because that doesn't come out.
- 1:40:23Speaker 3: But I stand by this post-apocalyptic dystopian future where everything's
- 1:40:29Speaker 3: falling apart. Fuck seatbelts.
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: Dude.
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: The same reason none of those kids were wearing helmets.
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: Because in the future, everything's falling apart. You don't wear
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: helmets when you're rollerblading.
- 1:40:41Speaker 2: That's how you spin out the herd.
- 1:40:43Speaker 5: 90s, we didn't wear helmets.
- 1:40:44Speaker 3: Shit.
- 1:40:44Speaker 5: I mean, when we rollerblade, even like, well, I mean,
- 1:40:47Speaker 5: when we skateboard. But I mean, I don't think anybody,
- 1:40:50Speaker 5: I didn't see anybody wear helmets. Even bicycles. Nowadays, you
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: see everybody wearing helmets. Hell, you see people walking around
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: with fucking helmets on.
- 1:40:58Speaker 3: You don't need a helmet.
- 1:40:59Speaker 2: In this future. He didn't need to worry about sterilizing people.
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: They're all just going to have head wounds.
- 1:41:04Speaker 5: Head injuries. I didn't need a helmet. Look at me.
- 1:41:07Speaker 5: I turn out just fine.
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: Okay. You don't wear a helmet.
- 1:41:11Speaker 5: Multiple traumatic brain injuries, but I'm good.
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: But you might wear a tiny cowboy hat. You know,
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: you were so jealous of her outfit. Don't pretend.
- 1:41:18Speaker 2: What was that?
- 1:41:19Speaker 3: Fringe and extra fringe.
- 1:41:22Speaker 5: A little pink plastic gun.
- 1:41:23Speaker 2: But only if her rollerblades had been looking like cowboy boots.
- 1:41:27Speaker 5: That would have been awesome.
- 1:41:29Speaker 2: That would have been so rowdy.
- 1:41:31Speaker 3: I don't think they had enough budget in the cops room.
- 1:41:35Speaker 3: They couldn't afford that.
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: Things that go over your boots.
- 1:41:40Speaker 3: Spats.
- 1:41:41Speaker 2: No, just like Halloween costumes. You don't really wear boots.
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: You just wear this little thing that goes over your shoes.
- 1:41:48Speaker 3: Were you dressed as Jesse last time?
- 1:41:51Speaker 2: No, but there was so much fringe. Jesse might have
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: worn that.
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: Jesse might have worn that.
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: It was fringe on fringe on fringe.
- 1:41:58Speaker 3: Oh, Lord. So, yeah, that's how we go out on
- 1:42:01Speaker 3: this movie. We're heading to Oregon. And do you think
- 1:42:05Speaker 3: we need a sequel on this one?
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: They set it up for a sequel.
- 1:42:07Speaker 3: They definitely set it up for a sequel, because all
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: the good guys go off and ride off into the
- 1:42:12Speaker 3: sunset in their RV.
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: And the bad guy tells that he makes a reference
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: to the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: Pacific Northwest. That's where he wants to invest in, and
- 1:42:19Speaker 3: that's where he's going to be.
- 1:42:20Speaker 5: But it's like, dude, if you're in jail, then you
- 1:42:23Speaker 5: shouldn't be allowed to have your little business guy in there,
- 1:42:25Speaker 5: and you shouldn't be spray painting in your jail cell cell.
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: But he likes to huff the fumes, man. I guess. Alright,
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: so sequel is what we're looking for, which I already
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: said is kind of that other weapon.
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: I think it's a little bit late for that one.
- 1:42:41Speaker 3: I don't know. They keep pulling out some really old
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: properties and doing sequels, so you never know.
- 1:42:48Speaker 5: Prayer of the.
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: Rollerboys 2 colon, what's the colon going to be? Ramrod Returns.
- 1:42:54Speaker 5: You know, son of Ramrod.
- 1:42:56Speaker 2: Day of the Rope.
- 1:42:57Speaker 5: Day of the Rope.
- 1:42:58Speaker 3: Day of the Rope. Day of the Rope.
- 1:42:59Speaker 2: Day of the Rope. Put the little arm thing.
- 1:43:01Speaker 5: Yeah, the arm salutes are kind of dumb.
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: I mean, the Heil Hitler's still old. We've all seen
- 1:43:10Speaker 3: that one. That's boring these days. We need some sort
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: of elbow action.
- 1:43:14Speaker 5: It's the double fist.
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: That was like the elbow sex, but without the sex.
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: They're just elbow masturbation.
- 1:43:21Speaker 5: As he's driving by the random guys that are just
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: doing the elbow things. But he's not even looking at them,
- 1:43:26Speaker 5: so they're just kind of doing it.
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: But they're doing their part. They're supporting the heathens. Supporting
- 1:43:32Speaker 3: the god-awful racist. I had fun. And our ankles hurt
- 1:43:40Speaker 3: just watching.
- 1:43:42Speaker 2: Who would they even cast in a sequel at this point?
- 1:43:45Speaker 5: Corey Feldman.
- 1:43:46Speaker 3: Yeah, you know Feldman would show up. He'd want to
- 1:43:48Speaker 3: be the new bad guy. I look like this now.
- 1:43:51Speaker 3: Don't ask any questions.
- 1:43:53Speaker 5: I would say you'd try to go for the new
- 1:43:55Speaker 5: good guy.
- 1:43:57Speaker 3: He would think that, but he's not.
- 1:43:59Speaker 5: He's got to avenge.
- 1:44:00Speaker 2: In between the movies, something happened to Haim, and he
- 1:44:03Speaker 2: has to avenge.
- 1:44:04Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: He's going to do the exact same thing that happened
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: to Big Wolf on campus. I have to avenge Haim!
- 1:44:12Speaker 5: See, honestly, honestly.
- 1:44:13Speaker 3: Corey, how did you get in here?
- 1:44:14Speaker 5: Honestly, I didn't know that Haim wasn't in this movie,
- 1:44:18Speaker 5: or that Feldman wasn't in this movie. So, like, halfway through.
- 1:44:21Speaker 3: The movie, I'm like, where's Feldman at? Where's Feldman at?
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: When's he going to show up?
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: Because, surprisingly enough, they can do movies without each other.
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: Thank God. For Haim's sake, they got to do a
- 1:44:30Speaker 3: good amount of movies not together.
- 1:44:33Speaker 2: But yet their best movies were together. Lost Boys is
- 1:44:36Speaker 2: fucking awesome. Lost Boys is awesome.
- 1:44:38Speaker 3: License to Drive is at least doing its thing. Hey.
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: Dream a Little Dream, I have not watched since the
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: original time.
- 1:44:43Speaker 2: I liked Dream a Little Dream.
- 1:44:45Speaker 3: It's so Feldman-ish.
- 1:44:48Speaker 5: I don't remember it.
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: I blocked out a good portion of it.
- 1:44:52Speaker 5: I can't remember it.
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: I need to watch it.
- 1:44:53Speaker 3: I guess I could revisit it at some point.
- 1:44:54Speaker 5: We watched it, but I don't remember it.
- 1:44:57Speaker 2: Yeah, because you didn't remember the girl doing the hot
- 1:44:58Speaker 2: dance in the gym.
- 1:44:59Speaker 3: Huh?
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: Isn't that Meredith? That one song that I like. Yeah,
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: the one who's married to Patton Oswalt.
- 1:45:03Speaker 3: Yeah. We talked to her, sort of. We were in
- 1:45:07Speaker 3: her vicinity.
- 1:45:08Speaker 2: That song is awesome. And I don't care what anybody says.
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: Did I put that on when we were still doing
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: the soundtrack thing?
- 1:45:13Speaker 3: We're still doing them now. You're just slacking off.
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: No, I'm saying, did I put that in there?
- 1:45:17Speaker 3: What song is it? I don't think so.
- 1:45:18Speaker 2: I thought I did.
- 1:45:19Speaker 3: I don't know. We can go back and figure it out.
- 1:45:21Speaker 3: If not, we need to do another soundtrack episode anyway.
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: You start working on your list.
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: Ask me again and I'll fucking scream.
- 1:45:30Speaker 3: I'm trying to look it up.
- 1:45:31Speaker 5: Okay, well, I didn't know you were trying to look
- 1:45:32Speaker 5: it up.
- 1:45:33Speaker 2: I can't remember the name of the song.
- 1:45:34Speaker 5: I'm used to everybody just ignoring me, so.
- 1:45:36Speaker 3: When do I ignore you? All the time.
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: Oh, my God. I want to punch you in the face.
- 1:45:42Speaker 2: Domestic abuse is not okay, but you're making me question it.
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: Oh, Lord.
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: I'm finding the song. I have to go through the
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: Liberty Mutual commercial first.
- 1:45:58Speaker 3: You're looking at the soundtrack. Oh, that song. Oh, that's
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: Michael Damien, isn't it?
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: It's David Essex.
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. Around that time, Michael Damien did
- 1:46:09Speaker 3: his cover of that. Oh. That they played to death.
- 1:46:12Speaker 3: And it's the only reason I know who the fuck
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: Michael Damien is. Because I think he's a soap actor.
- 1:46:17Speaker 2: I don't know that one. All I know is this one.
- 1:46:20Speaker 3: At the time, I think that's all he did was
- 1:46:21Speaker 3: a soap actor. And then he covered that song.
- 1:46:24Speaker 2: Oh, you didn't see his sleeveless.
- 1:46:27Speaker 5: I can see sleeveless.
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: It's a fucking amazing song. We should put that song
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: in this episode.
- 1:46:41Speaker 3: It has nothing to do with the movie.
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: I don't care.
- 1:46:43Speaker 3: When we've got all these awesome songs from the soundtrack,
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: we could do... I know, right?
- 1:46:50Speaker 5: Like that one song.
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: That one song almost sounds like an excess.
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: Put one of Cory's songs on there. Cory sings.
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: Oh, no. Bust out his keyboard.
- 1:46:59Speaker 2: Hey, no, he sings. He sings.
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: I've seen him with a keyboard.
- 1:47:03Speaker 2: Hey, one of his songs isn't bad.
- 1:47:04Speaker 3: Do you know which one it is? No.
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: Because it keeps trying to tell me fucking Feldman.
- 1:47:26Speaker 3: Is this how you want to go out?
- 1:47:29Speaker 2: Well, it could be the other one. Hold on. If
- 1:47:33Speaker 2: you think the other one could be better, hold on. What?
- 1:47:40Speaker 5: Wow.
- 1:47:44Speaker 3: No is my answer.
- 1:47:45Speaker 2: Hold on, it gets better.
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: I think this is the one you need to.
- 1:47:54Speaker 5: Go out on because this fits the movie.
- 1:47:59Speaker 3: It is very 90s. It sounds so much like C
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: & C Music Factory. Well, what else can we do
- 1:48:16Speaker 3: but go out on this? It's been quite... a ride here.
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: Thank you for going on this journey. Welcome to the
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: dystopian future that is.
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: Prayer of the Rollerboys.
- 1:48:32Speaker 3: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next time.
- 1:48:34Speaker 3: Same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:48:37Speaker 2: Bye.
- 1:48:38Speaker 3: Poor bastards.
- 1:48:39Speaker 2: I'm so tired.
- 1:49:20Speaker 5: Ooh, yeah, just keep it coming like a madman. You
- 1:49:23Speaker 5: got me running. Feel the rhythm and feel the bass.
- 1:49:27Speaker 3: Come on, move your.
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: Body at a steady pace.
- 1:49:32Speaker 3: No time.
- 1:49:34Speaker 7: To wait, because the night is young.
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: I want to feel sweat drip on my tongue. You
- 1:49:39Speaker 5: got the flavor, but now I'm stuck.
- 1:49:42Speaker 2: I think I'm in love. I'm all shook up.
- 1:49:46Speaker 5: I want the night to stay.
- 1:50:05Speaker 2: Do you like it?
- 1:50:06Speaker 5: Like it?
- 1:50:08Speaker 2: Do you like it like that?
- 1:50:11Speaker 3: Do you like it? Like it?
- 1:50:14Speaker 5: Do you like.
- 1:50:15Speaker 2: It like that?
- 1:50:16Speaker 7: Come on, baby, get wet.
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: Do you like it?
- 1:50:37Speaker 5: Do you like it like that? Do you like it?
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: Do you like it like that?
- 1:50:45Speaker 7: Do you like it?
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: Come on, baby, get wet. Everybody dance now.
- 1:50:50Speaker 3: Is that not the same thing? It's very similar.
- 1:50:54Speaker 5: It's the exact same thing.
