- 0:00Hebrews chapter 6 Let us pray. Oh Lord God almighty El Elion,
- 0:11the Most High God, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, God
- 0:16Almighty Yahweh, I deny. Lord, we love you.
- 0:24We love everything about you, Father.
- 0:27We love the way that you move God.
- 0:29We love the things that you speak.
- 0:32God, we love your heart. We love that you are good, You
- 0:36are wholesome. Father, we love that you save to
- 0:40the utmost. God, we love you because of who
- 0:44you are. And Father, we desire to know
- 0:49you more intimately, to know you deeper.
- 0:52We long and love sick Lord, for you and for a touch from you,
- 0:58God, we want to touch the hem of your garment.
- 1:01Father, we receive our healing today.
- 1:03We adore you, God. We adore your face.
- 1:08Your eyes like fire and hair like wool.
- 1:12The voice of the many multitudes, Sea of glass mingled
- 1:15with fire, peals of Thunder. God Almighty, reign supreme,
- 1:24Father, over all of your creation.
- 1:27God, we lift up our eyes to the Maker of heaven and earth.
- 1:32We know where our help comes from.
- 1:36We say yes and Amen to all of the promises contained in your
- 1:43book. Lord, we thank you that our
- 1:46names are written in the Lamb's book of life.
- 1:49We thank you, God for salvation. We thank you for eternal life.
- 1:53We thank you for the forgiveness of sins.
- 1:55God, we thank you that we are at one with you.
- 2:00We have been bought with a high price.
- 2:03Father, we have been redeemed. Lord, we are justified.
- 2:07God in your sight. Lord, make us holy as you are.
- 2:12Holy Lord God, I pray that you'll open up our hearts and
- 2:19minds as we open up your word today.
- 2:21God, hide it in our hearts. Help us, Lord, not to sin
- 2:26against you. Help us to love our neighbors as
- 2:28our self. God, forgive us for the many
- 2:31times that we've fallen short and we've come up short.
- 2:35We've missed the mark, God, many times that we have sinned
- 2:39against you. God, I pray, Lord, that you help
- 2:42us to extend forgiveness out to those who have wronged us, who
- 2:49have heard us. God, help us not to find our
- 2:52identity in our past. Help us not to find our identity
- 2:56and all of the things that have happened to us.
- 2:59God, I pray against being fearful.
- 3:02God, I pray against the spirit of suicide and the pray against
- 3:06the spirit of anxiety. God, in the name of Jesus, I
- 3:10pray for a peace that surpasses all understanding, joy
- 3:14inexpressible. Father, spring up inside of your
- 3:18believers, your church. You're called out ones.
- 3:21Father, I pray in the name of Jesus that we can be your hands
- 3:24and feet right now in this world for such a time as this.
- 3:29Lord, let the train of your robe filled the temple today.
- 3:34God, we hide our eyes, we cover our mouths.
- 3:37Father, we just cry. Holy, holy, holy are you.
- 3:50We get out of our own understanding.
- 3:52We get out of our own way. Father, we yield.
- 3:58We bend towards you. God, help us to mirror you, to
- 4:06mirror your glory, God, to be resplendent out into the
- 4:10nation's. God, I pray as we open up your
- 4:15word today, give us sound doctrine and sound theology
- 4:19today. Father, Holy Spirit, you teach
- 4:22us. Hide me, hide my words, hide my
- 4:26thoughts, hide my motives, hide my emotions, hide any part of me
- 4:33in Holy Spirit. You speak, I decrease as you
- 4:41increase. Maranatha, the Spirit and the
- 4:45Bride says, come, help us to fill our lamps and trim our
- 4:52Wicks. Be wise and be warned, God, and
- 4:57help us to watch and pray and wait.
- 5:04Lord, come and get your glory. In the mighty name of Jesus
- 5:09Christ, I pray, Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 5:18Therefore, leaving the principles of the doctrine of
- 5:24Christ, let us go on unto perfection, not laying again the
- 5:30foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward
- 5:36God. Verse two of the doctrine of
- 5:40baptisms, and of the laying on of hands, and of resurrection of
- 5:46the dead and of eternal judgment.
- 5:50Verse 3 And this will we do if God permits.
- 5:56I know we blew through the 1st 3 verses, but I want to give the
- 6:00context here, friends, what the writer of Hebrews is desirous to
- 6:05do in this moment is to say, listen, there have been many
- 6:10things that have been written and talked about about all of
- 6:14the simple criteria of who is a believer and what Jesus did.
- 6:21And the writer of Hebrews is saying, let's go deeper.
- 6:25We've talked about all these things.
- 6:28If you've been following along for any amount of time from
- 6:32Matthew all the way to Philemon, there has been much groundwork
- 6:39that has been laid about justification, much groundwork
- 6:45laid about repentance, about restoration.
- 6:49There's been much groundwork laid about baptism and speaking
- 6:54in tongues and all of the likes. And here the writer of Hebrews
- 6:59is saying, listen, we've already laid the foundation, let's go
- 7:02deeper. You do not need to be put into
- 7:05remembrance of all of the elementary things that we've
- 7:09been talking about redundantly over and over and over
- 7:13repetitively. So it'll sink in, so it'll
- 7:16actually stick. And that is the way of God.
- 7:19He gives us 4 gospels on purpose.
- 7:22We get so many stories repeated over and over throughout the
- 7:27Bible on purpose. It is not that there's not great
- 7:31subject matter to go deeper into, but God gives us what is
- 7:35the most important thing, and He repeats it, and He repeats it
- 7:39again and again and again. And how many of the same
- 7:42recurring themes have we seen laid out from Matthew all the
- 7:46way to Philemon? And here we are in the 6th
- 7:49chapter of Hebrews, and the writer of Hebrews is saying,
- 7:53let's go deeper. We've talked about the
- 7:57foundation, we've talked about repentance, we've talked about
- 8:02all the dead works. We've talked about faith towards
- 8:05God. We've talked about doctrine of
- 8:08the baptisms. We've talked about the laying on
- 8:11of hands and of resurrection of the dead.
- 8:14We've talked about eternal judgment.
- 8:16And he's saying if God will permit and if he'll open up your
- 8:20understanding, we'll leave this elementary and we'll go higher
- 8:27and we'll go deeper with God. And you also need to know the
- 8:33context that a lot of this was Jewish backgrounds of ceremonies
- 8:39and things that they had already known about because of their
- 8:44Hebrew background, their Jewish background.
- 8:49And they could use a lot of the same Christian connotations in a
- 8:54Jewish context and escape the persecution.
- 9:01And there could very well be some fear of man and fear of
- 9:06loss of life and fear of livelihood that is happening
- 9:10within the context here. But for us believers, there is
- 9:16so much more to learn about God than just the basic principles
- 9:21of the AB CS To admit that we are sinners and that we need a
- 9:27Savior. To believe that Jesus Christ is
- 9:30Lord and that God raised him from the dead, and to confess
- 9:34him as our Lord and our Savior and to receive our salvation.
- 9:40Friends, it goes much beyond walking a Nile and getting
- 9:44dunked in some water and praying a Jingle of a prayer to receive
- 9:49salvation. There's so much more to this
- 9:51walk with Christ, friends, and we cannot just be satisfied with
- 9:56the elementary rudimentary AB CS of the faith.
- 10:04God desires to go deeper, and that is what we will do if God
- 10:08permits. Verse 4 For it is impossible for
- 10:16those who were once enlightened have tasted of the heavenly
- 10:23gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 and have
- 10:29tasted the good word of God and the powers of the world to come.
- 10:35Six, if they shall fall away to renew them again unto
- 10:42repentance, seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God
- 10:49afresh, and put him to an open shame.
- 10:54What's he talking about here? Well, I would have you to know,
- 10:59friends, that this is one of the passages in God's Scripture that
- 11:06people say you can lose your salvation.
- 11:09And what you need to understand is that this Arminianism and
- 11:16this Calvinism working together, friends, they're not enemies.
- 11:22They're not two sides of the ditch that you should wreck on
- 11:26friends. God gives you free will, but he
- 11:29already knows what you're going to do.
- 11:31He already knows who's going to be there with him.
- 11:34And yes, he desires for us to be soul winners.
- 11:37And we don't just rest on our blessed assurance.
- 11:40We also don't think that our election somehow relieves us of
- 11:46actually evangelizing and fulfilling the Great Commission.
- 11:50It does not work that way, friends.
- 11:53But you need to understand in the context of what he is saying
- 11:57is there is no more salvation apart from Jesus Christ.
- 12:02Jesus Christ is the only way. And if you woke up this morning,
- 12:07he's not done with you. He's giving you another
- 12:11opportunity to surrender to Him. You are never too far from God
- 12:18to turn, turn away from sin, to turn away from self and turn
- 12:24towards a loving Savior. And the only time that we have
- 12:30lost that opportunity is when we take our last breath.
- 12:35As long as you have breath in your lungs, you can always turn
- 12:39back towards Him. And what He is mentioning here
- 12:44is apostasy. He's mentioning those who fall
- 12:48away completely. This is not just these one off
- 12:53shoots where you go into a tangent of a sinful debaucherous
- 13:00moment where you spend maybe days, weeks, months or even
- 13:06years away from God, but then you come to your senses like the
- 13:11prodigal son and you come running back home and he puts
- 13:14the ring in the robe on you. Friends, if you have breath in
- 13:18your lungs, it's not too late. Come back to the Lord Jesus
- 13:22Christ. Don't believe the lie of the
- 13:25enemy, that God is mad at you and He doesn't want to have
- 13:28anything to do to you. And because you have somehow
- 13:31found yourself back in a sinful state, that there is no more
- 13:36repentance and no more salvation for you.
- 13:39That is a lie from the enemy. Friends, what the writer of
- 13:44Hebrews is referencing are those who are looking for salvation
- 13:48somewhere else in this world, salvation in themselves,
- 13:52salvation in another religion, salvation through works, and
- 13:56there is no salvation apart from Jesus Christ.
- 14:00Jesus is the only way to the Father and that is what you need
- 14:07to understand. Seven for the earth, which
- 14:15drinks in the rain that comes often upon it and brings forth
- 14:20herbs, meat for them by whom it is dressed, receives the
- 14:25blessings from God. So here Paul is letting us know
- 14:29that the fruit will prove that the Holy Spirit is home within
- 14:33the believer. You're not going to have a holy
- 14:37habitation that is mixed with profanity.
- 14:41This strange fire offered up to God, it does not work that way.
- 14:46You will be able to tell who belongs to Him by what comes up
- 14:50out of their heart and out of their mouth, friends.
- 14:53It will reveal where they stand with an almighty loving God.
- 14:58There are many who sure look the part, but if we will sit and
- 15:05listen to their conversation, it gives them away their speech
- 15:12Berea them. 8:00 But that which bears thorns and briars is
- 15:20rejected, and is near unto cursing.
- 15:24Whose end is to be burned. You need to understand that the
- 15:30tree that gives no fruit and the tree that gives bad fruit are
- 15:36both cut down and thrown into the fire.
- 15:40We must bear fruit, friends. It is a natural overflow of a
- 15:45life that is completely yielded over to God Almighty to bear
- 15:50fruit. It is natural.
- 15:53His yoke is easy. His burden is light.
- 15:56It's work nonetheless, but it is a labor of love, friends, and He
- 16:02supernaturally empowers us to go out into the harvest.
- 16:06He supernaturally enables us to have his heart, to have his
- 16:11eyes, to have his ears, to know what he is thinking, his
- 16:15emotions for a certain particular situation.
- 16:18Friends, it is God Almighty and dwelling us that helps us to
- 16:22navigate through the hardest parts of life, and here you're
- 16:28going to be able to see if someone is truly attached to God
- 16:33Almighty or not through the fruit that they bear. 9 But
- 16:42beloved, we are persuaded better things of you and things that
- 16:48accompany salvation. Though we thus speak so the
- 16:53writer of Hebrews, he kind of softens his tone and he says,
- 16:57but these things should not apply to you because you know
- 17:02better. So now he's got them in a place
- 17:07where they're ready to learn about Melchizedek.
- 17:10They're ready to go deeper with God in the understandings of the
- 17:15things of his eternal nature and his plan for the ages and who
- 17:21Christ is and what our position in Christ should look like and
- 17:26to be. 10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work
- 17:35and labor of love, which you have showed towards His name, in
- 17:40that you have ministered to the Saints and do minister following
- 17:46after the Lord Jesus Christ looks like work.
- 17:52It is not just an easy, carefree, lazy, slothful
- 18:00position to follow after the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 18:05He beckons us into the harvest. He beckons us into His work that
- 18:14He desires for such a time as this.
- 18:17We are His hands and feet and you cannot outwork the Lord
- 18:21Jesus Christ. He has given us every
- 18:25opportunity to perform the works that God has planned for us
- 18:30before the foundations of the earth, and we cannot squander
- 18:34that. Friends.
- 18:36We cannot make it about ourselves.
- 18:38We cannot grow despondent and lazy in these last days.
- 18:43We must stay locked in and on track with Him, friends, and
- 18:48fulfill all of the purposes that he has for our lives.
- 18:53We do not need to sit on our blessed assurance and think that
- 18:57it's somebody else's job to get out there and to do the work of
- 19:00an evangelist. 11 and we desire that everyone of you do show the
- 19:09same diligence to the full assurance of hope and to the
- 19:13end. So here it's all about finishing
- 19:16well. It's so easy to start a race,
- 19:19but it is very, it is extremely difficult to press on when your
- 19:25body is telling you to quit, when everything's screaming at
- 19:29you. You must continue to press on
- 19:32towards the end and to finish well.
- 19:34There are many ministries that have started out on the right
- 19:37foot. They started out in the right
- 19:39posture. They had the heart of Christ.
- 19:42They were doing the things that were required of them.
- 19:46And then somewhere along the way they got deceived, They got
- 19:50sidetracked. They stepped into carnal,
- 19:53lustful, earthy emotions and feelings and thoughts.
- 19:58They made it about mammon friends.
- 20:00They made it about vanity friends.
- 20:03They made it about their youthful lusts.
- 20:06And they fell away this apostasy and there is no more salvation
- 20:12apart from Jesus Christ. We must have a full assurance of
- 20:20hope all the way into the end. 12 That you be not slothful.
- 20:27But followers of them who through faith and patience
- 20:32inherit the promises, It could not be more plain.
- 20:36Friends, Jesus Christ is beckoning us into the harvest.
- 20:43We cannot leave ripe fruit on the vine to rot.
- 20:49Look up and see the harvest is plenty, but the workers are few.
- 20:56And we can be followers of the Lord Jesus Christ if we in faith
- 21:02and impatience continue on with Him, not slacking off, not
- 21:10giving up friends. And through that we will inherit
- 21:14all the promises that God has given to us.
- 21:17We must view the Bible as a book of promises, not as a book of
- 21:22rules. There are so many of us who are
- 21:26turned around thinking that the Bible is just a bunch of rules
- 21:30for our lives and we do not enjoy having rules placed upon
- 21:36us. But it is not until you switch
- 21:39gears and you highlight and underline and write in the
- 21:44margins and write in your notebook all the promises of God
- 21:48contained from Genesis to Revelation.
- 21:51And then you will start to be excited about the Word of God
- 21:55because you're going to see so many promises that He has given
- 21:59to us. He promises us to be there with
- 22:03us when we walk through the water, when we walk through the
- 22:06fire, friends, He promises that we are more than conquerors and
- 22:10we are peacemakers. Friends, He promises us eternal
- 22:13life. He promises us resurrected
- 22:16bodies. He promises us that He's going
- 22:19to be with us and us with him. What an amazing book we hold in
- 22:25our hands. The God of the universe desires
- 22:28a relationship with you, friend. 13 For when God made promises to
- 22:37Abraham because he could swear by no greater, he swore by
- 22:41himself. You're going to see that,
- 22:44friends, in the book of Genesis where Abraham goes and he cuts
- 22:52the animals and sets them, and then the flame of fire passes
- 22:56through and God swears by himself, by his own name, that
- 23:01he's going to make Abraham into a great nation. 14 Saying
- 23:06surely, blessing, I will bless you, and multiplying I will
- 23:11multiply you. So we can see this wonderful
- 23:15promise of God towards Israel. And it's still in effect to
- 23:21today that those that bless Israel will be blessed, and
- 23:26those that curse Israel will be cursed, friends. 15 And so after
- 23:34he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.
- 23:40So Abraham was put to the test. He was put under trial.
- 23:46He was heavy laden with so many things that he had to reach up
- 23:51and grab a hold of by faith that he could not see how at 90 years
- 23:57old, Sarah was ever able to have a child.
- 24:02He could not see, friends, how he was going to have more
- 24:06descendants than the stars in the sky.
- 24:10He could not see how he was going to be the father of many.
- 24:14But he had to take it by faith. And then came Isaac, and he had
- 24:18to take him up on the mountain as God told him to sacrifice his
- 24:24own son, as God would do one day with Jesus Christ.
- 24:28This type in the shadow. And by faith Abraham had to
- 24:32believe that God could raise Isaac from the dead if he wanted
- 24:37to. You see that Abraham is the
- 24:40father of faith. 16 For men truly swear by the greater, and
- 24:46an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.
- 24:51Jesus Christ said, Let your yes be yes and your no be no, that
- 24:55any other swearing is not from God.
- 24:59And you can see that God has no one greater than to swear by
- 25:03than himself. 17 wherein God willing more abundantly to show
- 25:10unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his counsel
- 25:15confirmed it by an oath. You cannot get more secure than
- 25:22when God gives you a promise. God's promises you can build
- 25:27your entire life upon. In God's promises, you can take
- 25:33them to the bank. They are as good as done.
- 25:38All of the prophecies that have not happened yet will happen
- 25:46exactly to the letter of how they are written about in God's
- 25:53Word. These are promises to you and to
- 25:56me, friends, and we underline them, we highlight them, we
- 26:00write them in our margins because they are precious to us.
- 26:1018 That by two immutable things in which it was impossible for
- 26:18God to lie, we might have a strong consolation who have fled
- 26:23for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us.
- 26:28I hope that the Bible is your place of refuge, your strong
- 26:32tower that you run into friends. I hope that all the things that
- 26:35God has promised to you through His Word, you hold him up to and
- 26:41you remind God about and you take it and you wave it in front
- 26:46of him and say, God, you said this would be so.
- 26:49And I'm building on it and I'm banking on it.
- 26:54And I know that you are not a liar.
- 26:56God, you cannot lie and I am looking for consolation in this
- 27:02moment. I need you to console me.
- 27:05God, I need you to come and be my comforter.
- 27:08God, I need you to remind me of my inheritance, of who I am in
- 27:12Christ and all the promises that I'm banking on and believing.
- 27:17God, I need you to make them real in my life and He will.
- 27:25It is the hope He has set before us.
- 27:28There is no hope outside of Jesus Christ.
- 27:32He is our hope. Friends, Man is not our hope.
- 27:37The nation is not our hope. Our wealth and prosperity is not
- 27:42our hope. Our reputation is not our hope.
- 27:48The amassment of arms is not our hope.
- 27:50Our military might is not our hope is Jesus Christ and the
- 27:55promises that He has given us that we place all of our hope in
- 28:01in Revelation chapter 3, verse 10, he says, and I will keep you
- 28:06from the hour that is coming to test all the inhabitants of the
- 28:11earth, friends, and we build our whole lives upon that promise.
- 28:15We say, yes God and we believe it and that settles it. 19 Which
- 28:24hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both shore and steadfast,
- 28:31and which enters into that within the veil.
- 28:34The veil was ripped from top to bottom.
- 28:37We come boldly into the throne room of Grace, friends.
- 28:42We dine and we Sup with Him. We are seated with Him in
- 28:47heavenly places. We are anchored to Him, friends.
- 28:50We are still here on this earth as His hands and feet.
- 28:53But we have an anchor, this ladder that stretches from him
- 28:57to here, and the angels ascending and descending upon
- 29:00the Son of Man. We have this anchor that is
- 29:04sure. It is steadfast, it is
- 29:06immutable. It is unmovable, friends.
- 29:09It is rock solid. It is the chief cornerstone and
- 29:14we build our whole lives upon it, and we'll never be put to
- 29:17shame. We'll end on 20.
- 29:24Whether the Forerunner is for us.
- 29:27Entered. Even Jesus made it High priest
- 29:30forever after the order of Melchizedek.
- 29:33There's that character again. Who is this that we keep
- 29:37Speaking of? We're going to find out,
- 29:41friends. Stay tuned until next time and
- 29:47you need to understand that Jesus is the forerunner.
- 29:49He's the first born from the dead.
- 29:52He is when man entered into heaven, friends, and the same
- 29:57power that resurrected Jesus Christ from the dead lives in
- 30:01you and lives in me. St.
- 30:05And he is our high priest and he is our king.
- 30:09He is a king and he is a priest. He's the king and the priest,
- 30:17and we wait expectantly upon him.
- 30:21Let's not get sidetracked today. Let's not squander our
- 30:26inheritance for a mess of pottage.
- 30:28There's a lot of distractions and amusement that's out there
