- 0:18Speaker 1: episodes coming. So enjoy punctual and everything there is there.
- 0:24Speaker 1: He is one sharp dude. Did you actually believe that
- 0:27Speaker 1: I was going to be late on a day like today?
- 0:29Speaker 1: I'm nervous. Are you nervous? I'm a little nervous, dude.
- 0:32Speaker 1: I have butterflies. I don't have butterflies when I'm just
- 0:34Speaker 1: shooting the ship with you. But this is a big deal. Yeah,
- 0:37Speaker 1: we got a list celebrities. This is the listener. This
- 0:40Speaker 1: is the type of shit that freaking you know shows
- 0:42Speaker 1: when they're getting launched and everything like that, they hope
- 0:45Speaker 1: to get a guest like Brendan Frasier. When Fallon launched,
- 0:48Speaker 1: he wished he got a guest like Brendan Frasier on
- 0:51Speaker 1: that episode. Same thing with Kimmel when they launched. It
- 0:54Speaker 1: were like, if we could get somebody like Brendan Frasier.
- 0:57Speaker 1: By the way, we've been saying it wrong. I'm sorry
- 0:58Speaker 1: to interrupt you, but I got yelled at on the internet.
- 1:00Speaker 1: It's Phraser. We've both been saying Frasier. It's Fraser, Fraser
- 1:07Speaker 1: like Fraser like like laser Fraser. Okay, I'm just saying
- 1:13Speaker 1: I got someone was like love the podcast sac You're
- 1:16Speaker 1: all you're both saying Brendan's name wrong. Sorry? Sorry? Do
- 1:23Speaker 1: you know many times I get Donald Phison, Fison, Pison.
- 1:29Speaker 1: What's the other? Um? Oh, there's another phase on but
- 1:31Speaker 1: he spells it differently. There's phase on love, phase love,
- 1:35Speaker 1: and then there's Frankie Faison who spells it the same way. Right,
- 1:38Speaker 1: there's a phase on North Carolina. I've never been there.
- 1:42Speaker 1: White and black Phaisons. How are you guys? How's your
- 1:46Speaker 1: week going? By the way, Donal Donald, did you know
- 1:48Speaker 1: that Dan's nickname is Daniel? I thought that that was
- 1:51Speaker 1: just kind of a Joel joke, but it really is
- 1:53Speaker 1: his his nickname in life, Daniel. It's a nickname? Or
- 1:56Speaker 1: is that your name is? His name is Daniel. But
- 2:00Speaker 1: he's been a very long story. He doesn't want to
- 2:02Speaker 1: go into but Daniel happy to do it another time,
- 2:05Speaker 1: Happy to do it another time. No, But I'm starting
- 2:06Speaker 1: to wonder if we should call on the podcast. I
- 2:08Speaker 1: should be calling him Daniel because I like to use nicknames.
- 2:10Speaker 1: It makes me feel like I'm close to someone. Well,
- 2:13Speaker 1: I would be honored if you would call me Daniel.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I might just do there it is Daniel. I'm gonna see,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna see. I'm gonna see if it flows, because
- 2:21Speaker 1: you can't force a nickname like like you know, I
- 2:24Speaker 1: hate it when when you say someone's nickname and you
- 2:26Speaker 1: feel like, oh, I just just not flowing out of
- 2:28Speaker 1: me right now. When I was a kid. When I
- 2:30Speaker 1: was a kid, my mom was like the the not
- 2:34Speaker 1: the leader of a camp, but like the creative director
- 2:37Speaker 1: at a camp. It was a camp that had a
- 2:39Speaker 1: boy season in a girls season. The name of it
- 2:41Speaker 1: was Camp at Water. It was in Massachusetts, right, And
- 2:45Speaker 1: I remember she went around a table with all the
- 2:46Speaker 1: counselors because she had to be there early to meet
- 2:49Speaker 1: all the counselors and stuff. She went around a picnic table.
- 2:52Speaker 1: We were outside. I was there because I'm there with
- 2:55Speaker 1: my mom, and she's like, all right, everybody, just give
- 2:58Speaker 1: me your first your name and then you know a
- 3:02Speaker 1: nickname that people give you. So people was going around
- 3:04Speaker 1: I'm terrific Tasha, or I'm you know, stunning Stephen. And
- 3:09Speaker 1: it got to this dude named Darryl. He was like,
- 3:11Speaker 1: they called me delicious Darryl, and I remember, I remember
- 3:16Speaker 1: being like wow and I and then later on Cedric
- 3:20Speaker 1: the Entertainer has a joke where you know what grown
- 3:23Speaker 1: man wants to call another grown man delicious name? What
- 3:34Speaker 1: was your nickname? My father called me the Great Destroyerser'd
- 3:39Speaker 1: be like, oh, here comes the great Destroyer. I was
- 3:41Speaker 1: had my head was constantly in the clouds, and I
- 3:44Speaker 1: had a tendency to just break things and running into
- 3:46Speaker 1: them arms like gesticulating wildly, knocking over cups and stuff.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So wow, that stuck. My nickname was BIZ because it's
- 3:58Speaker 1: my initials backward braf Israel Zach so uh. When I
- 4:06Speaker 1: was a kid, I so I grew up with Terrence Howard, right,
- 4:09Speaker 1: he and I I've known him since he was like
- 4:10Speaker 1: twelve years old. As a matter of fact, my first
- 4:13Speaker 1: I took him on his first audition. He crashed and
- 4:16Speaker 1: crashed an auditioned with me, and it wound up being
- 4:19Speaker 1: like the Jackson's Uh Special, and he became you know
- 4:23Speaker 1: he's Terrence Howard. Now. Anyway, when we would hang out
- 4:27Speaker 1: when we were kids, there was this dude in the
- 4:29Speaker 1: neighborhood who didn't necessarily like the fact that two acting,
- 4:33Speaker 1: you know, teenagers or you know, young men were walking
- 4:36Speaker 1: around hanging out together. So he was called Showbiz and
- 4:39Speaker 1: I was Hollywood. So when we come outside and back
- 4:44Speaker 1: here comes Showbiz in Hollywood, I'm gonna start calling you Hollywood. No, no, no,
- 4:53Speaker 1: how are you? How's your life? Donald phaze On? It's good?
- 4:56Speaker 1: You know. I in the house and I'm in the
- 5:01Speaker 1: house board old yeah, man, it's the same old stuff. Yeah. Well,
- 5:09Speaker 1: you got a birthday coming up. I do. I'm gonna
- 5:11Speaker 1: be forty six. That's fucking it'll literally be twenty years
- 5:16Speaker 1: since we started Scrubs. When we started Scrubs, I had
- 5:18Speaker 1: just turned twenty six, So it'll be twenty years this
- 5:21Speaker 1: year Scrubs will have been We will have been making
- 5:24Speaker 1: Scrubs like it was the first. The first episode came
- 5:28Speaker 1: out when I was twenty six years old. I bought
- 5:30Speaker 1: you a present. No, my wife bought me a present.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I bought you a present for both Father's Day and
- 5:36Speaker 1: your birthday. So did my wife what did you get me.
- 5:39Speaker 1: I'm not gonna tell you. I'm not gonna tell at
- 5:40Speaker 1: least all these fine folks listening. But is it a
- 5:43Speaker 1: donut machine? No? Are you gonna keep the donut machine? Though,
- 5:46Speaker 1: by the way, we haven't heard the update on the
- 5:48Speaker 1: donut machine. I think I might keep the donut Yeah,
- 5:51Speaker 1: of course you're gonna keep the donut machine. Will you
- 5:54Speaker 1: post pictures on your on your Instagram so so our
- 5:56Speaker 1: listeners can see it? Absolutely? I made ice cream yes today.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I made a raspberry ice cream yesterday. It was delicious.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Do you have an ice cream maker? Well, there are
- 6:06Speaker 1: a lot of things that you can use to make
- 6:07Speaker 1: ice cream. But I have a little attachment that goes
- 6:11Speaker 1: on my little belleville and it's a mixer and it's
- 6:14Speaker 1: been you know, it took me two days to make
- 6:17Speaker 1: ice cream. But I made ice cream and then I
- 6:19Speaker 1: made some fudge. So it was raspberry ice cream with
- 6:22Speaker 1: a little chocolate fudge underneath. Let me tell you, they
- 6:25Speaker 1: went crazy in this household for my food mine. So
- 6:28Speaker 1: this is a new phase for your quarantine. You become
- 6:31Speaker 1: a dessert chef. Yeah. You know a lot of people
- 6:34Speaker 1: thought I would phase off when it came to cooking,
- 6:36Speaker 1: I decided to fase on. You know what I'm saying.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I decided to fade on. I think that the best
- 6:42Speaker 1: solution for your diet is to start becoming a dessert chef.
- 6:46Speaker 1: I think it'll be great for my cholesterol. Yeah, and
- 6:48Speaker 1: it'd be great for It would be great for my diet,
- 6:51Speaker 1: you know what I mean. I am a dessert man.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I love sweets, I love sugar, I love ice cream. Well, dude,
- 6:58Speaker 1: I made fudge. Yes, to make fun Brownie's, you gotta
- 7:00Speaker 1: make fudge first. I made fudge first. Oh, let me
- 7:04Speaker 1: tell you something right now, and nothing like some homemade fudge.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, that shit's good. Listen that shit it's good. Um.
- 7:13Speaker 1: The people loved Scott Foley, great reaction to Scott Foley
- 7:17Speaker 1: was a great guest man. He was such a great
- 7:20Speaker 1: guest everybody loved him on there. Yeah, And my whole
- 7:23Speaker 1: timeline was nobody cares, shan Like, I'm talking about ninety
- 7:27Speaker 1: nine percent of the comments where nobody cares on. Some
- 7:29Speaker 1: people said nobody cares Zach, Yeah, Well I said that
- 7:32Speaker 1: a couple of times. Oh that was you, that was
- 7:35Speaker 1: you commenting. Yeah, that was me. I thought you man
- 7:39Speaker 1: on my Instagram. Um, I'm good, you know, I don't
- 7:43Speaker 1: know how do you answer that these days? He just
- 7:45Speaker 1: everyone just goes yeah, I don't know, staring at the wall.
- 7:47Speaker 1: I think it's crazy. You know, the cases are all rising,
- 7:50Speaker 1: you know. Somebody wrote, somebody wrote on Twitter. I thought
- 7:54Speaker 1: it was really appropriate. They said like, so we're all
- 7:57Speaker 1: just kind of got bored and just said fuck it
- 8:00Speaker 1: because people are just going out there. It's rising. Fauci
- 8:03Speaker 1: said something like, what do you you know people are
- 8:06Speaker 1: saying like, oh, it's the second wave. She's like, what
- 8:07Speaker 1: are you talking about? This is still the first wave. Yeah,
- 8:10Speaker 1: you know, and it's spiking everywhere. It's spiking in LA
- 8:13Speaker 1: It's spiking in so many places, and spiking in the South. Hardcore. Yeah,
- 8:19Speaker 1: I know. So, I don't know, man, it's crazy. It
- 8:21Speaker 1: just feels like people went fuck it, I'm over it,
- 8:24Speaker 1: and they're just gonna they're going out. Um. I don't know.
- 8:26Speaker 1: If you've seen all these videos of people out out
- 8:29Speaker 1: and about with no masks on, I think it's I
- 8:31Speaker 1: think it's crazy. Yeah, you know, Um, everybody's gonna live
- 8:36Speaker 1: their life, you know how They're gonna live there, you know,
- 8:38Speaker 1: and I can't. I can't stop anyone from I can,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I can beg and I can plead, and I can
- 8:44Speaker 1: you know, you know, say to that's all we can do.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Please don't go out. Please think of your fellow man.
- 8:50Speaker 1: There are the people that can't. You know, that won't
- 8:54Speaker 1: be as lucky as you are if you are one
- 8:56Speaker 1: of the lucky ones that you know, this virus does
- 9:00Speaker 1: nothing too. But um, I can't, I can't. What are
- 9:04Speaker 1: you gonna do. You're gonna arrest people? What are you
- 9:06Speaker 1: gonna do? Jump on people in stock? I haven't. We haven't,
- 9:08Speaker 1: we haven't. We haven't spoken too much on on on
- 9:11Speaker 1: about our friend Nick on this podcast. You know, Donald
- 9:13Speaker 1: and I have a very good friend, Nick Cordero. You
- 9:15Speaker 1: may have heard about him in the news. He's about
- 9:17Speaker 1: as sick as someone can be, and he was had
- 9:20Speaker 1: no pre existing conditions and he is uh forty years old,
- 9:26Speaker 1: and he was he was staying in my guesthouse. And
- 9:30Speaker 1: he's one of my best friends in the world. He's
- 9:31Speaker 1: an amazing actor. Broadcast we did a play together. He's
- 9:35Speaker 1: a wonderful actor, a wonderful singer. Um, he's just incredible.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Like you know, people always say this about people. But like, honestly,
- 9:44Speaker 1: he's the nicest person I've ever met, Like, like, there
- 9:48Speaker 1: is not a malicious, weird, competitive, angry cell in his body.
- 9:55Speaker 1: He's an angel of a human being. And uh, he
- 9:58Speaker 1: was he was here, he was living. I guess I'll say.
- 10:00Speaker 1: He and his wife bought a new house in LA.
- 10:03Speaker 1: They were making the move from New York to Lay.
- 10:05Speaker 1: They have a one year old baby. They were just
- 10:08Speaker 1: living the American dream. They literally bought their first house.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And he went back to New York to pack up
- 10:12Speaker 1: his apartment and got COVID so bad that he's been
- 10:17Speaker 1: staying alive with the help of machines. I don't and
- 10:20Speaker 1: no one knows if he's gonna make it. He's lost
- 10:22Speaker 1: his leg due to complications clotting and such. His lungs.
- 10:28Speaker 1: His lungs are just Swiss cheese, they said. The COVID
- 10:31Speaker 1: just just fucking destroys the lungs. So um. I not
- 10:37Speaker 1: to be a Debbi downer on this show, but I
- 10:39Speaker 1: haven't been talking about it because we're here to hopefully
- 10:41Speaker 1: entertain you and take your mind off things. But if
- 10:44Speaker 1: you're headed out and you don't have a mask on,
- 10:48Speaker 1: I want you to think about my friend Nick, maybe
- 10:50Speaker 1: just think about it, because I think people takes comfort
- 10:53Speaker 1: and going well, first case scenario, I'm forty, what's gonna happen?
- 10:58Speaker 1: This guy had had it, was healthy, his wife's a trainer.
- 11:01Speaker 1: I mean, he's a healthy guy. And uh, and he
- 11:04Speaker 1: could he could die. So I don't mean to to
- 11:08Speaker 1: to preach. And I wasn't even gonna bring this up,
- 11:10Speaker 1: but I just felt weird all of a sudden not
- 11:12Speaker 1: mentioning it. And uh and um, you know, so while
- 11:18Speaker 1: you think why you think it's uh, while everybody's out there,
- 11:21Speaker 1: just you know, uh about to uh all the people
- 11:28Speaker 1: that are sick of this virus, just know that this
- 11:29Speaker 1: virus isn't sick of us exactly. And and just know that, uh,
- 11:33Speaker 1: you know, don't have in your head. I think it's
- 11:36Speaker 1: a shame for people to have in their head. Uh
- 11:38Speaker 1: where'st case scenario? I get it. They say it's like
- 11:40Speaker 1: a really bad flu. That's that's bullshit. That's some people.
- 11:43Speaker 1: But there's also some people like Nick who are totally
- 11:46Speaker 1: healthy and have a one year old baby and are
- 11:49Speaker 1: just started walking, who just started walking today actually and
- 11:53Speaker 1: uh and his and and he could die. I mean,
- 11:55Speaker 1: we don't know. It's it's it could go either way,
- 11:59Speaker 1: so I'm sorry to open the show with that. Donald
- 12:01Speaker 1: helped me change the tone of things by being jovial
- 12:04Speaker 1: and leading us in some six seven eight stories show
- 12:10Speaker 1: we made about a bunch of doctor nurses and story
- 12:18Speaker 1: never should so yead around here, yead around here. Let's
- 12:31Speaker 1: bring in Brendan everybody, Let's bring in Brendan Fraser. Donald,
- 12:35Speaker 1: don't say it like the oh I help you see
- 12:45Speaker 1: you you too? Oh man, look at dude, look at this.
- 12:51Speaker 1: Donald and I both admitted to each other that we
- 12:53Speaker 1: have butterflies because we don't have fancy movie stars on
- 12:57Speaker 1: our on our part, no offense to our other guests.
- 12:59Speaker 1: They're great offense. They all did, they've they've all been great,
- 13:03Speaker 1: but they're not like Brendan Trazer. We're just kicked it
- 13:06Speaker 1: up a notch like like like like Emerald used to say, Bam,
- 13:10Speaker 1: kick it up a notch. Flattery will get you everywhere. Brandon,
- 13:16Speaker 1: we Um. We we're giddy that you're here. Not only
- 13:19Speaker 1: are we not only have we always both been fans
- 13:22Speaker 1: of your work, but when you came on the show,
- 13:25Speaker 1: it was really cool because you were by far the
- 13:29Speaker 1: fanciest guest star we had on the show, and then
- 13:32Speaker 1: you became like people's favorite storyline. And I don't even
- 13:37Speaker 1: if you know this, but the episode where you where
- 13:40Speaker 1: You Died is a lot of people's favorite episode of
- 13:43Speaker 1: the whole series. And so we're just we're thrilled you're
- 13:46Speaker 1: here and we want to talk about all of it.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Thank you. You helped launch our you know, I don't
- 13:52Speaker 1: think I don't know if it definitely wasn't on purpose,
- 13:54Speaker 1: but our buddy Josh Raiden, who gets spoken of every
- 13:57Speaker 1: freaking episode, his song was played at your character's funeral
- 14:04Speaker 1: and because of that his career. I mean, he travels
- 14:07Speaker 1: all over the world now and performs to packed houses.
- 14:10Speaker 1: But this was the first song that he ever wrote,
- 14:13Speaker 1: and somehow Bill used it in in this episode. Somehow
- 14:19Speaker 1: is me. I said, you need to style the song.
- 14:22Speaker 1: Try my buddies first song. He had never written a song,
- 14:24Speaker 1: and we played it during your funeral episode and it
- 14:28Speaker 1: launched his career. But anyway, we let Brennan talk. That's
- 14:31Speaker 1: really nice. I mean, look, the music's important so much
- 14:34Speaker 1: in the across the arc of the whole whole show.
- 14:38Speaker 1: I mean, the choices were always spot on. They made
- 14:43Speaker 1: you feel the internal conflict even though there was you know,
- 14:47Speaker 1: this comedy that that it was juxtaposed against. It's a
- 14:52Speaker 1: very serious environment. I mean, how do you make a
- 14:54Speaker 1: hospital funny? Yeah, you guys did it um for many,
- 15:02Speaker 1: many episodes, and I, um, I'm so pleased. When I've
- 15:07Speaker 1: been going to comic conventions in the last two years
- 15:11Speaker 1: or so, that's a similar thing that everyone says, they're
- 15:15Speaker 1: very um, they're moved by that episode. Now, look, thanks
- 15:19Speaker 1: for the nice things you're saying to me, but you're
- 15:20Speaker 1: only as good as you're the company you keep and
- 15:23Speaker 1: how well it's written, and some camera things too. But
- 15:27Speaker 1: I just I should say belated thank you, like what
- 15:31Speaker 1: seventeen years later now for including me in that cast
- 15:35Speaker 1: and pulling me into the fold. How Sorry, Sorry, I
- 15:39Speaker 1: didn't mean That's okay. I was thinking about that today too.
- 15:42Speaker 1: I let's take a walk back here. I had just
- 15:45Speaker 1: finished a run of my West End debut in London
- 15:48Speaker 1: and Cat and Hot Tin Roof and I came back
- 15:55Speaker 1: to La and my former wife. Afton and Krista Miller
- 15:59Speaker 1: are long time friends, and I had not met Bilby before,
- 16:03Speaker 1: but I did get on the phone with him, and
- 16:05Speaker 1: I recall saying something like he's asking, how you doing.
- 16:09Speaker 1: We want you to come and do this. Let me
- 16:12Speaker 1: see the script. I mentioned something about feeling a little
- 16:16Speaker 1: tired or jet lagged or I needed to get back
- 16:18Speaker 1: to the gym, and he said, all right, well i'll
- 16:21Speaker 1: send it over. So we sent the script over and
- 16:22Speaker 1: he sent a bunch of gym shorts. I mean, like
- 16:27Speaker 1: nice ones too, So I thought, all right, I mean,
- 16:34Speaker 1: when one man sends another man his shorts, there is
- 16:39Speaker 1: no other love. You know, when you're trying to get
- 16:41Speaker 1: an actor to do something, there's always the go to thing,
- 16:43Speaker 1: which is write a nice letter. But I'm gonna take
- 16:46Speaker 1: I'm gonna take Bill's Q on this and get more creative.
- 16:48Speaker 1: He sent you a clothing. Well, he just showed he
- 16:51Speaker 1: was listening. Listen, man, I'm tired, I gotta get back
- 16:54Speaker 1: to the gym. Let me help you out. You're some
- 16:56Speaker 1: shorts and the script that's true. Are you are you
- 17:01Speaker 1: in town right now? Or are you out of town?
- 17:03Speaker 1: I know you're doing uh that The show the superhero show,
- 17:07Speaker 1: Doom Patrol, Doom Patrol and Superhero Guy. I was just
- 17:13Speaker 1: watching the trailer for season two where you guys are
- 17:15Speaker 1: miniaturized and everything like that. I'm very excited for it.
- 17:20Speaker 1: I was really excited when the show started. I was
- 17:21Speaker 1: actually I watched Titans and then when they introduced Doom
- 17:25Speaker 1: Patrol through Titans and Beast Boy, I was really excited
- 17:30Speaker 1: to watch the show. And the cast is phenomenal. You
- 17:33Speaker 1: got such a really dope cast. You Matt Bonner, Uh
- 17:36Speaker 1: what's his name? Uh, Timothy Dalton, Like it's a sick cast, dude,
- 17:40Speaker 1: Diane Gerrero, Ippa Bulby Season two, Let's get out of
- 17:44Speaker 1: the way. June twenty fifth on HBO Max The New One.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Check it out. Very excited. Donald, Did you actually watch
- 17:52Speaker 1: the read the comics before? I mean, this is the
- 17:55Speaker 1: first time my live action thing has been No, I
- 17:58Speaker 1: had not read the comic before, but I knew it existed,
- 18:02Speaker 1: but I had I had never. I had never because
- 18:05Speaker 1: it's really an obscure property. It was really kind of
- 18:07Speaker 1: it was orphaned. It was done like seven different incarnations
- 18:11Speaker 1: on real print. Yeah, and they didn't they killed everybody
- 18:14Speaker 1: off at one point they brought them all back. Um,
- 18:17Speaker 1: and then Grant Morrison did the run that this that
- 18:20Speaker 1: inspired the show. So it the word surreal gets bandied
- 18:24Speaker 1: about very much in the way we speak, but it
- 18:26Speaker 1: actually borrowed from Dadaism, and you know that what Dolly
- 18:31Speaker 1: was up about surrealism in the way that this show's inspired.
- 18:34Speaker 1: A lot of the set pieces are direct key art
- 18:37Speaker 1: from um the graphic novels and it and it, and
- 18:42Speaker 1: it did keep the sense of I don't know if
- 18:46Speaker 1: I want to call it it's people like to say
- 18:49Speaker 1: dark where it's serious. I think it just didn't. It doesn't.
- 18:54Speaker 1: It doesn't shy away from going to the places that
- 18:58Speaker 1: motivate brew being superhero character is explaining really why, and
- 19:03Speaker 1: often in white knuckle detail. So you guys, you guys,
- 19:09Speaker 1: do you guys are very It's a very I would
- 19:12Speaker 1: say it is a dark show, like each and every
- 19:14Speaker 1: one of your origins comes from a dark place, you
- 19:17Speaker 1: know what I mean, just from your character alone. Your
- 19:20Speaker 1: character was a race car driver who was who was like,
- 19:23Speaker 1: you know, cheated on his wife and really didn't give
- 19:26Speaker 1: a shit about anybody but his daughter, you know what
- 19:28Speaker 1: I mean. And yeah, and he was I don't think
- 19:30Speaker 1: he won all those races fair and square either to right,
- 19:35Speaker 1: just a bad, bad dude. And he dies and gets
- 19:38Speaker 1: put into a robot, and he's led to believe that
- 19:41Speaker 1: his daughter is I don't want to spoil this show.
- 19:44Speaker 1: He's dead. There, I said it. He's and and so's
- 19:48Speaker 1: he's struggling to reconcile how to be a better man,
- 19:55Speaker 1: except now he's trapped in this steampunk robot body. And strangely,
- 20:01Speaker 1: he's a bitter human being as a robot than he
- 20:05Speaker 1: was as a man. Right right, right, and and and
- 20:09Speaker 1: he's there for his teammates. He's like in every episode,
- 20:13Speaker 1: he's the one character who's there for his teammates. He's
- 20:16Speaker 1: there for the girl with all the personalities he's there
- 20:20Speaker 1: for that's crazy Jane as she's known with her sixty
- 20:24Speaker 1: four different personalities that you all but superpowers too. That's
- 20:27Speaker 1: a dope superpower. That's dope. You could sixty four different powers.
- 20:32Speaker 1: That's pretty dope anyway, Brendan, did you read um comic
- 20:37Speaker 1: books when you were a kid? I had an anthology
- 20:41Speaker 1: of Superman. I tried to get into Batman because all
- 20:46Speaker 1: the cool kids did then. And I gotta be honest
- 20:49Speaker 1: with you, think they kind of think they were formidable,
- 20:51Speaker 1: and they sort of scared me a little bit. Like
- 20:54Speaker 1: it was like listening to heavy metal music and you're
- 20:58Speaker 1: not ready for him to me and and so I
- 21:01Speaker 1: mean I like them for sure, but my speed was
- 21:05Speaker 1: more like Dennis the Menace and Richie rich Yeah, I
- 21:10Speaker 1: would read Archie, Little Archie, Yeah, little Archie. Look. Yeah,
- 21:14Speaker 1: so I guess in short, no, not really, but then
- 21:17Speaker 1: I mean when this came along, um, it's kind of
- 21:20Speaker 1: a yeah, I would want to be a part of
- 21:23Speaker 1: this because I'm not sure if if risks like this
- 21:27Speaker 1: get taken that frequently. And I'm no aficionado, you know,
- 21:29Speaker 1: in a world of comics and that kind of thing,
- 21:31Speaker 1: but I know that it's. Um, it's a piece in
- 21:34Speaker 1: Donald just touched on this. That's like everyone comes from
- 21:37Speaker 1: some horrible accident that occurred to them prior to them
- 21:42Speaker 1: being introduced to its audience, our audience, and that's the
- 21:45Speaker 1: reason why that they have to build better lives through it.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Although they bicker with one another and they hate one another,
- 21:50Speaker 1: but they can't be a part and they don't function
- 21:53Speaker 1: without one another, kind of like scrubs, I should say. Yeah. Yeah,
- 21:56Speaker 1: the very theme song is I can't do this all
- 21:59Speaker 1: on my own, can't do so And yeah, it's about
- 22:03Speaker 1: the camaraderie. Um, you know, you've had the most epic career.
- 22:07Speaker 1: I was just scrolling your IMDb page just before you
- 22:10Speaker 1: came on because I wanted to just kind of glance
- 22:13Speaker 1: at everything. I mean, you have the kind of career
- 22:15Speaker 1: that actor's dream of having. You from from really cool
- 22:19Speaker 1: artistic indies to the biggest tent pole movies ever. I mean,
- 22:26Speaker 1: do you when you look back on things, is there
- 22:28Speaker 1: is there a favorite or is it all kind of
- 22:31Speaker 1: like I mean for us, I mean Donald and I
- 22:32Speaker 1: look back at Scrubs. We haven't had the fraction of
- 22:34Speaker 1: the career you've had, but I mean we look back
- 22:36Speaker 1: and go, Okay, We've had lots of fun experiences, but
- 22:38Speaker 1: Scrubs was like one of the best experience of our lives.
- 22:40Speaker 1: Is there a project that you look back on that
- 22:42Speaker 1: and go, you know, I've done a lot of cool things,
- 22:44Speaker 1: but this one in particular was like, holy shit, that
- 22:46Speaker 1: changed my life or this or or or If I
- 22:49Speaker 1: had to like name something that really changed my life
- 22:52Speaker 1: for better or worse, I'd have to say it was
- 22:54Speaker 1: around two thousand story like nineteen ninety nine. It was
- 22:58Speaker 1: the Mummy pictures. Yeah, everybody saw all those I mean,
- 23:01Speaker 1: and still they have a resonance. I guess it's just
- 23:04Speaker 1: you know, my dumb luck that the the lore of
- 23:10Speaker 1: an Egyptian mummy wrapped up for several thousand years looking
- 23:12Speaker 1: for his girlfriend is an enduring theme that we just
- 23:15Speaker 1: love to do in over and over and over again.
- 23:17Speaker 1: So you know, I had had that had that going
- 23:20Speaker 1: for it. But um, if I think of a film
- 23:23Speaker 1: nert that that made me feel like it changed. I
- 23:29Speaker 1: worked with I worked with Michael Kine in Vietnam on
- 23:33Speaker 1: a picture called The Quiet American and it was a
- 23:38Speaker 1: pretty good adaptation. Um. Christopher Hampton wrote it um of
- 23:44Speaker 1: the of the novel um. And we shot in Vietnam,
- 23:48Speaker 1: and at that time, no Western film had been made
- 23:53Speaker 1: in Vietnam. I mean, if you saw a movie that
- 23:55Speaker 1: was a war picture or something, it was in Malaysia
- 23:57Speaker 1: or Thailand or doubled somewhere else. In selfish if you
- 23:59Speaker 1: were the jungle. But we had the good fortune and
- 24:06Speaker 1: to actually be there, and it was exciting for the
- 24:09Speaker 1: reasons that it really pushed back at as the novel
- 24:15Speaker 1: did that American foreign policy was you know, blessed in
- 24:20Speaker 1: the world, and the reality is, no, it's not the
- 24:27Speaker 1: the picture itself, I can say confidently was put on
- 24:33Speaker 1: the chopping block by Miramax when it came out September eleventh,
- 24:37Speaker 1: had transpired it and in the I don't even want
- 24:43Speaker 1: to say his name, but the boss of that company said,
- 24:44Speaker 1: I don't want to do anything wrong for the American people,
- 24:48Speaker 1: and we never really knew what that meant. And Michael
- 24:52Speaker 1: took the picture to Toronto International Film Festival and gave
- 24:56Speaker 1: it in an audience there, and that's when it UM
- 25:01Speaker 1: really started to take off. In the Washington Post wrote
- 25:04Speaker 1: a piece called let the ac quiet Americans speak and UM,
- 25:09Speaker 1: you know, in other words, you don't need to sugarcoat this.
- 25:14Speaker 1: You don't have to treat us like children. We should know.
- 25:18Speaker 1: I mean, these are things that that we do have
- 25:20Speaker 1: to discuss that UM has not changed then and it had,
- 25:25Speaker 1: it can't change now. I mean. So to be a
- 25:29Speaker 1: part of that, UM, I guess I felt I was
- 25:34Speaker 1: in UM in good company, and UM I felt like
- 25:39Speaker 1: I had a chance to be a part of a
- 25:43Speaker 1: picture that would, you know, in its own way, change
- 25:45Speaker 1: the world. Now movies do or they don't, and that's
- 25:49Speaker 1: the hope and the aspiration. But it did fulfill something
- 25:52Speaker 1: for me that um was was meaningful. And if it
- 25:57Speaker 1: didn't find its audience at that time, um, there's always
- 26:01Speaker 1: the notion of feeling that it will do in the future.
- 26:03Speaker 1: And well, I think you can have a lot of
- 26:06Speaker 1: people watching it now because it's it's one of yours.
- 26:09Speaker 1: I haven't seen and I'm definitely curious and uh, and
- 26:11Speaker 1: we have a handful of people listening to this. I'm
- 26:13Speaker 1: sure we'll check it out. I loved one of your
- 26:16Speaker 1: early film school ties was Yeah, I was about to
- 26:18Speaker 1: say that, oh man, that movie hit me at the
- 26:20Speaker 1: right age man and I especially being a young Jewish
- 26:23Speaker 1: man that you of course, and we didn't and I
- 26:25Speaker 1: didn't feel like I looked like Brendan, you know. I
- 26:27Speaker 1: was like, there I am, look at our handsome mind
- 26:29Speaker 1: being represented. But but uh, but I mean your performance
- 26:33Speaker 1: in that movie as as a young actor. I mean,
- 26:35Speaker 1: I think everyone in the world was like, you know,
- 26:37Speaker 1: everyone who loves movies was like, oh shit, look at
- 26:39Speaker 1: this new guy. I thought you really really were great
- 26:42Speaker 1: in that movie. Well, thanks, It was sort of the
- 26:45Speaker 1: diner casting. Yeah, it's day in a way, Ben Affleck,
- 26:51Speaker 1: Matt Damon, right, the list is ridiculous. Uh, so many
- 26:55Speaker 1: people right right, right, right right, Anthony Raps ridiculous. We
- 27:04Speaker 1: um at that time had no idea what we were doing.
- 27:08Speaker 1: We had an abundance of enthusiasm. Probably the most important
- 27:11Speaker 1: thing to us is getting the producer to provide us
- 27:14Speaker 1: breakfast in the morning before we had to play football
- 27:16Speaker 1: all day, although they did not, you know, I mean
- 27:19Speaker 1: and and still at that time, I look at it
- 27:21Speaker 1: and I think, I don't I really don't know that
- 27:23Speaker 1: much about that guy anymore. I I you know, I
- 27:26Speaker 1: just see, um, I see, I see a cast very hopeful.
- 27:33Speaker 1: But but at the same time we all have this
- 27:35Speaker 1: sort of tenuous is this kind of feelings as you
- 27:38Speaker 1: do when you're first starting out in this industry? Yeah,
- 27:42Speaker 1: um so. But for that, rather than you know, turning inward,
- 27:47Speaker 1: we just swung for the fences and hope for the
- 27:50Speaker 1: best for whatever the film would would result. And well
- 27:54Speaker 1: it was. It was really great. Donal and I both
- 27:57Speaker 1: remember that film. Finally, we've talked about it before. And Donald,
- 28:00Speaker 1: you also began your career in a football film. Yeah,
- 28:04Speaker 1: I did. It was called Remember the Titans. Have you
- 28:07Speaker 1: watched it yet? No, it's all my to do list.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch these are That's fine and and that's fine,
- 28:15Speaker 1: but these are the issues that I'm having. Now, let
- 28:17Speaker 1: me tell you what happens. Don't fight in front of
- 28:19Speaker 1: our guests, don't fight in front of company. Let me finish,
- 28:22Speaker 1: Let me finish. Is this because Is this because I
- 28:26Speaker 1: didn't read Garden State when you Yes, that's one of
- 28:30Speaker 1: the reasons. I was in the shower and I was thinking,
- 28:31Speaker 1: you know, I've done some projects and Zach's never seen
- 28:36Speaker 1: any of them. No, I've seen a lot of them.
- 28:38Speaker 1: You've seen, dude, what was the movie you win where
- 28:41Speaker 1: where the famous rapper was a postman. It's called Next
- 28:48Speaker 1: Day It. First of all, it was Next Day Air. Yeah,
- 28:49Speaker 1: I saw that. Second all, the only reason why you
- 28:52Speaker 1: saw Next Day Air is because I invited you over
- 28:54Speaker 1: for screening at my house with all the producers, and
- 28:58Speaker 1: oh boy, who is the rapper? I guy, he was
- 29:00Speaker 1: really good. Most deaf man, most def is a good actor.
- 29:04Speaker 1: He did a good job in that movie. I worked
- 29:05Speaker 1: with most deft. I worked with most def once in
- 29:11Speaker 1: a really obscure movie the shot and saw Paula Brazil.
- 29:14Speaker 1: It was called Journey to the End of the Night,
- 29:16Speaker 1: and he played a Nigerian dishwasher who gets roped into
- 29:21Speaker 1: running a huge suitcase of cocaine in this sort of
- 29:27Speaker 1: impossible scenario that he just can't win from. He was
- 29:30Speaker 1: so good, I mean he was what was the name
- 29:32Speaker 1: of the movie Journey to the End of the Night?
- 29:37Speaker 1: Scene Bay in Journey to the End of the Night.
- 29:41Speaker 1: I'm gonna watch that too, So sorry, but Titans got
- 29:44Speaker 1: moved down another rung because I have two more films.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Let me tell you what happens in my house? You
- 29:48Speaker 1: have dinner, you get what are we gonna watch tonight? Right?
- 29:51Speaker 1: I don't know if this happened dais and remember the Titans. Now,
- 29:54Speaker 1: let me tell you. I just want to know if
- 29:55Speaker 1: this happens in either any of your houses. You have
- 29:57Speaker 1: a list of like one thousand, class six you want
- 30:00Speaker 1: to watch. You have a list of like your friends
- 30:03Speaker 1: movies you want to watch. You got a list of
- 30:04Speaker 1: movies you read online that everyone's talking about. And then
- 30:07Speaker 1: you get on there and you're tired, and you had
- 30:10Speaker 1: a glass of wine and you like and it's HGTV time. Yeah, right,
- 30:15Speaker 1: Top Chef, Top Chef. I watched Top Chef. Listen, I
- 30:22Speaker 1: could be a cook now because I watched so much
- 30:23Speaker 1: Top Chef. Hold on, you said it's friend movies that
- 30:26Speaker 1: your friends are in, and you look at the classics
- 30:28Speaker 1: and everything like that. Dude, you can knock two out
- 30:31Speaker 1: with one stone. It's a motherfucking classic one two. Your
- 30:34Speaker 1: friend is in it. So dude, let's just get to
- 30:37Speaker 1: the we'na do What are we waiting? We're gonna do it.
- 30:39Speaker 1: I'm right after quiet American, I'm gonna do it. Um,
- 30:42Speaker 1: all right, I promise you this is a commitment. You're lying,
- 30:44Speaker 1: but okay, you've been saying this for years. I just
- 30:47Speaker 1: want you to know that for years. Listen, don't go ahead.
- 30:51Speaker 1: We don't have Brendan forever because he has to feed
- 30:54Speaker 1: his children. So I want to move quickly. We're gonna
- 30:57Speaker 1: take a quick break and we're gonna come back, and
- 30:58Speaker 1: then we're gonna go through the episode because I want
- 31:00Speaker 1: to talk. This episode has so much in it and Brendan.
- 31:03Speaker 1: You probably don't even know this, but there's so many
- 31:05Speaker 1: things in this particular episode that that became through lines
- 31:09Speaker 1: for the whole series, including when you picked me up
- 31:11Speaker 1: and I yelled eagle, um, the the a cappella group, Um,
- 31:18Speaker 1: Bob Zeltzer you're a cancer doctor. All right, we'll be
- 31:21Speaker 1: right back, and we're back, We're back. So um, this
- 31:33Speaker 1: episode is called My Hero and it's the second of
- 31:36Speaker 1: Brendan's three episodes he did. Um, Brendan, did you know
- 31:41Speaker 1: by the way I kne you assumed you knew you
- 31:42Speaker 1: were doing too? But then, what what's the story of
- 31:45Speaker 1: of you came back in? Not till season three? Did
- 31:49Speaker 1: did Bill? He couldn't have possibly seeded, Hey, we're gonna
- 31:52Speaker 1: build your character and come back in two seasons. So
- 31:55Speaker 1: what how did that come about? Yeah? I gotta I
- 31:57Speaker 1: gotta Bill knows the answer to that one. I mean,
- 31:59Speaker 1: I had such a great time with the to be
- 32:04Speaker 1: continued to you know, to hander right that came on
- 32:09Speaker 1: in the first season that I was in, and then
- 32:10Speaker 1: when he called up to do it again, I was like,
- 32:12Speaker 1: absolutely all right, you know you It was because I
- 32:16Speaker 1: had such a great time working you guys right on
- 32:18Speaker 1: you and you and you brought something to the table
- 32:20Speaker 1: that a lot of that went on for a really
- 32:23Speaker 1: long time. Also, your camera when you brought your camera
- 32:27Speaker 1: to look at this, Look, Zach has a camera just
- 32:30Speaker 1: like that. Now I'm holding up I'm holding up my
- 32:33Speaker 1: my Polaroid one ten A that I would not have
- 32:36Speaker 1: purchased without Brendan. So I want you know, Brendon and
- 32:40Speaker 1: I are both. Brendan, Christa Miller and I are all
- 32:43Speaker 1: camera geeks. We all collect them. But I was never
- 32:47Speaker 1: into old polaroid cameras until I'm at Brendon and all.
- 32:50Speaker 1: And if you guys are watching the episode and you
- 32:51Speaker 1: see him shooting all these polaroids, they that was inspired
- 32:55Speaker 1: by Brendan. Those are all his pictures you're you're looking at,
- 32:59Speaker 1: And I that's so into to polaroid photography because of you, Brendon,
- 33:04Speaker 1: and I've free, not like free for the twenty years
- 33:08Speaker 1: since I've seen you. I can't tell you how many
- 33:10Speaker 1: different polaroid cameras I've bought collected. And Donald was saying
- 33:13Speaker 1: on another podcast, he goes, why do I have so
- 33:16Speaker 1: many like professional quality polaroids of myself? And I'm like,
- 33:19Speaker 1: that's because of Brendan, because christ and I both got
- 33:22Speaker 1: so into it. We've taken so many pictures of them. Yeah,
- 33:25Speaker 1: I'm sitting in a closet around the shelf right now
- 33:28Speaker 1: because the film is so hard to find, and you
- 33:30Speaker 1: know you can get it online. Um um, if you buy.
- 33:33Speaker 1: I actually, knowing that you were coming on, I haven't.
- 33:36Speaker 1: I haven't used it in a while, but knowing you
- 33:37Speaker 1: would come on, I was like looking online and where
- 33:39Speaker 1: I can find Fuji? Still makes um the film extra
- 33:43Speaker 1: good pack film, impossible projects another one you know, yes,
- 33:47Speaker 1: but for those of men want to get into this
- 33:48Speaker 1: hobby food FUJIFP one hundred is is the go to,
- 33:52Speaker 1: right Brendan or that's like the last one. Let me
- 33:55Speaker 1: just geek out. I put my glasses one F one hundred.
- 34:06Speaker 1: I just gave him a shout out. There should be
- 34:07Speaker 1: a sponsor. Um So, Brendan, when you picked me up
- 34:11Speaker 1: at one thirty three in this kid's room, now, I
- 34:13Speaker 1: can't imagine you even could could know this story, but
- 34:17Speaker 1: the fans I've watched eight seasons, No, when you picked
- 34:20Speaker 1: me up and spun me, the first thing I say
- 34:23Speaker 1: that made me laugh was I go faster because the whole,
- 34:27Speaker 1: the whole gag is the JD is such a nerd
- 34:29Speaker 1: that at first he's like no, no, no no, and
- 34:31Speaker 1: then then he's like as a kid and I and
- 34:34Speaker 1: then you're spinning me. You're spinning me. And on one
- 34:36Speaker 1: last take, I thought, oh the extra dorky if JD
- 34:39Speaker 1: pretended he was soaring like an eagle, and then I
- 34:42Speaker 1: just went eagle, which became bizarrely a huge runner. Throughout
- 34:49Speaker 1: the whole season of the series of the show, Don
- 34:51Speaker 1: would pick me up an idbl eagle, and it became
- 34:54Speaker 1: a running thing. It became his what you're talking about willis?
- 34:57Speaker 1: It became my what you're talking about willis? Became my
- 34:59Speaker 1: catchpras you lifted me into my It's like in dirty
- 35:03Speaker 1: dancing doing the lift. You lifted me into my catchphrase.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Thank you, thanks very very much. Everywhere. I particularly liked
- 35:15Speaker 1: your shower shorts. If I remember, yes directly the man
- 35:19Speaker 1: for the man who has nothing to hide but still
- 35:21Speaker 1: wants to I still want and it had did have
- 35:24Speaker 1: a wallet and then you hold it out, you let
- 35:26Speaker 1: it go and there's this sort of like sound off
- 35:28Speaker 1: camera and you just winced a bit. Yeah exactly. But
- 35:32Speaker 1: I mean everywhere I go in my life, and I've
- 35:35Speaker 1: been traveled all around the world, um, I will have
- 35:37Speaker 1: people yell eagle at me as I walk down the street.
- 35:40Speaker 1: It's forever, It's forever. Yeah, all because of this moment
- 35:44Speaker 1: at one minute thirty eight, and then Krista goes for
- 35:46Speaker 1: a spin. I gotta have Krista liked that. I have
- 35:50Speaker 1: a feeling Krista wasn't too fond of the spot. I
- 35:52Speaker 1: bet she liked it because it was Brendan. If it
- 35:54Speaker 1: was anybody else, she would have been like, there's no way,
- 35:58Speaker 1: there's no way. I can't Bill writing an episode. If
- 36:02Speaker 1: Bill put any other character picks up Christa and spins her,
- 36:05Speaker 1: she would have been like, no, no, no no no no
- 36:07Speaker 1: no no no no no no no no, no. Tangle
- 36:13Speaker 1: in my giblets. I laughed out loud at that. I
- 36:16Speaker 1: don't like too much freedom now there. It makes me
- 36:18Speaker 1: tingle in my giblets. I think I may have made
- 36:23Speaker 1: that one up because I don't think Bill would have
- 36:24Speaker 1: written giblets. But um, Brennan, you found a way with
- 36:29Speaker 1: this character to bring out something. You know, Johnny c
- 36:34Speaker 1: had yet to really warm up to anybody. He's his character,
- 36:37Speaker 1: Doctor Cox is playing. He's such a tough alpha guy.
- 36:41Speaker 1: And then with your character, we see the friendship that
- 36:45Speaker 1: that that JD and Turk have mirrored a bit. We see, um, oh,
- 36:49Speaker 1: there is a guy out there who's silly and who's
- 36:52Speaker 1: goofy and is and is out there who's kind of
- 36:55Speaker 1: like um his JD if you, if you will, do
- 36:59Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like you you you brought
- 37:01Speaker 1: out the silly side of a guy the audience is
- 37:04Speaker 1: only known as someone who's so serious and agro right.
- 37:08Speaker 1: He was just just like Johnny C. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 37:16Speaker 1: although Johnny's a smidgen nicer, right, absolutely. Yeah. Did you
- 37:24Speaker 1: know Johnny before this? Had you guys worked together? We No,
- 37:27Speaker 1: we had not met before. I had seen him in
- 37:30Speaker 1: films that he'd made, and but I think I met
- 37:34Speaker 1: him on the day tell you the truth, the day
- 37:36Speaker 1: there was a nail in my hand, Yeah, a board, right,
- 37:41Speaker 1: if I remember that was the first episode before this one, correctly,
- 37:44Speaker 1: I think we met like maybe three minutes earlier than that. Wow. Wow.
- 37:48Speaker 1: It's because he doesn't take much time in to make
- 37:49Speaker 1: up chair. I learned. He just kind of walks in,
- 37:51Speaker 1: scrubs his head, yeah, and then makes like these sort
- 37:56Speaker 1: of animal grunt noises. Yeah, puts product in it, does
- 38:00Speaker 1: it again, Yeah, and like does like elaborate clicking and
- 38:03Speaker 1: snapping or his fingers, and then he takes off. He's
- 38:09Speaker 1: good to go. I had to show up, like you know,
- 38:11Speaker 1: an hour early with Christa. So we could you know,
- 38:14Speaker 1: get our strand by strand done just perfect? Yeah? Do you?
- 38:19Speaker 1: Donald went through Donald went through Donald. Colin Farrell was
- 38:22Speaker 1: on the show, and I think it was him, right, Donald,
- 38:24Speaker 1: you didn't want any makeup and uh, you know because
- 38:27Speaker 1: he looks like Colin Farrell. And then Donald was like,
- 38:29Speaker 1: you know what, I'm gonna start doing that. I don't
- 38:31Speaker 1: need makeup either. If it's good enough for Colin Farrell
- 38:33Speaker 1: is good enough. Yeah, and Donald Donald was like showing off,
- 38:36Speaker 1: like I don't need to make up either, and then
- 38:37Speaker 1: like oh we did one episode and the next week
- 38:39Speaker 1: Donal was like, I'm gonna go back to the makeup.
- 38:40Speaker 1: I'm gonna go back to Uh speaking of makeup, is
- 38:46Speaker 1: that you in in the in the costume all the
- 38:49Speaker 1: time or do they have a stand in for you
- 38:52Speaker 1: or do you have to do makeup every day like that?
- 38:55Speaker 1: Which costume? Which I've had a lot of weird ones,
- 38:58Speaker 1: and I've had some that were costume. Oh for do Patrol.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Oh no, that's voiced by Riley shan I mean I'm
- 39:04Speaker 1: voicing the character Riley Shanahan wears the suit. Um, he
- 39:08Speaker 1: is a wonderful comedic performer with fantastic timing. Um, and
- 39:14Speaker 1: he's full on playing the character through a mask. Yeah.
- 39:18Speaker 1: Um and uh he uh he does the heavy lifting there.
- 39:24Speaker 1: I mean, I show up in an episode or two
- 39:25Speaker 1: wearing pieces of that because, like I said, it borrow.
- 39:29Speaker 1: It breaks a lot of rules and makes its own
- 39:30Speaker 1: and the way the show unfolds. But otherwise no, I'm
- 39:34Speaker 1: it's like I gotta, I gotta, I gotta be clear
- 39:36Speaker 1: with you. It's like it's like a dream job. Somebody
- 39:38Speaker 1: else wears the thing shows up for you. In recent months,
- 39:42Speaker 1: I don't even go inside the studio, like we all thought.
- 39:44Speaker 1: You're sitting in your closet right now, I've been doing
- 39:46Speaker 1: a dr on a cell phone. It's it's it's weird.
- 39:50Speaker 1: It's weird days for a business. But on the other hand, like,
- 39:52Speaker 1: don't tell anybody this is actually I think that's the case.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I'm not wearing pats. I think that's the case with
- 40:02Speaker 1: I think it's the case with Mandalorian too. Um, you know,
- 40:05Speaker 1: because that's all stuntman, right, yes, yeah, yeah, so I
- 40:10Speaker 1: mean it you not to talk about it, though, do
- 40:13Speaker 1: they did? The producers want you to be like, no,
- 40:16Speaker 1: Brennan's in the suit. No, no way, I would never
- 40:18Speaker 1: do that. That's not fair to Riley. I mean, and
- 40:21Speaker 1: I'm fifty one now, this this guy is like built
- 40:25Speaker 1: like a tree. And that thing is that those Robots
- 40:28Speaker 1: suits and all that, all that, like you know DC
- 40:30Speaker 1: Comic and Marvel Comic, those outfitial supersuits. They're heavy. Yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 1: they are superformers are really unsung heroes. I worked with many,
- 40:39Speaker 1: and I worked with them on on I'll say the
- 40:42Speaker 1: titles George of the Jungle. The guys in the Guerrilla
- 40:44Speaker 1: suits are amazing. They're they're I mean, they they they
- 40:47Speaker 1: really take Sidney and behavior seriously and um, I mean
- 40:51Speaker 1: it's it's a thing back comedy. But at the same time, no,
- 40:54Speaker 1: they were. They were quite specific about what they needed
- 40:57Speaker 1: and how they would move as a troop and yeah, yeah,
- 40:59Speaker 1: I mean, can you tell Donald and I how to
- 41:01Speaker 1: get in that kind of shape? Um, if we ever
- 41:03Speaker 1: wanted to try, because you're pretty ripped in that movie. Yeah,
- 41:07Speaker 1: go go back in time and eat nothing but like
- 41:10Speaker 1: broccoli and styrofoam, lift weights until you puke. Yeah, and
- 41:16Speaker 1: then go wash your mouth out and keep doing it.
- 41:19Speaker 1: You know. I was once in the gym and a gym,
- 41:21Speaker 1: and uh and arm Schwartzener walked into the gym to
- 41:24Speaker 1: sort of inspect it. I guess his friend owned it
- 41:27Speaker 1: or something. And he was still the governor and he
- 41:30Speaker 1: walked over to me, um on the I was on
- 41:32Speaker 1: one of the benches, and uh, I don't know if
- 41:36Speaker 1: he recognized me as an actor or if he was
- 41:38Speaker 1: just sort of like talking to me as a citizen,
- 41:39Speaker 1: like hello, what's your goals with your workout? And I
- 41:44Speaker 1: was I was so starstruck, and I was like uh
- 41:47Speaker 1: oh um um, well, I guess I just kind of
- 41:50Speaker 1: want to look like Brad Pitton fight Club. And he
- 41:52Speaker 1: goes and he goes, you need to eat a lot
- 41:54Speaker 1: of carrots. That's all carrots. So for like the next
- 42:00Speaker 1: two months, I was just like fucking pounding carrots and
- 42:04Speaker 1: never get ripped. No, I mean it never happened and
- 42:06Speaker 1: never like I never in fight club. Orange. Yeah, you
- 42:12Speaker 1: definitely got orange, that's for sure. It's a lot of carrots.
- 42:16Speaker 1: And then he just moved on to somebody else. You
- 42:19Speaker 1: hit a lot of broccoli, you you eat a lot
- 42:23Speaker 1: of comquats, and you eat to squash you. He's just
- 42:28Speaker 1: he's walking around to each version of the gymming for you,
- 42:31Speaker 1: broccoli for you? S piece? How long would you train?
- 42:38Speaker 1: How long? When? How long would you train for something
- 42:40Speaker 1: like that? I mean the Mummy too. I mean, I
- 42:41Speaker 1: know you're in six shape, like did you did you?
- 42:43Speaker 1: Would you go through big training periods? Yeah? I think
- 42:46Speaker 1: I recall it was. I mean all in a second
- 42:49Speaker 1: year if you're gonna you know, and then you do
- 42:52Speaker 1: maintenance and blah blah. But um, you know, I I
- 42:59Speaker 1: haven't asked the but this frequently over the years, and
- 43:01Speaker 1: I really don't know the answer because everyone's body is
- 43:03Speaker 1: so different, and I almost feel a reticent to say, well,
- 43:06Speaker 1: this is what I did, because then people want to
- 43:07Speaker 1: emulate or do that and it might not be right
- 43:09Speaker 1: for them. But I guess if i'd be honest, it's
- 43:13Speaker 1: just just just just get it over with and lift weights,
- 43:19Speaker 1: I guess if. But the thing is that there's wear
- 43:22Speaker 1: and tear on your joints, your spine. I became really
- 43:26Speaker 1: proficient with ice bags, like really talk about nerdy camera geek.
- 43:30Speaker 1: I was like nerdy ice cube geek. And and uh,
- 43:36Speaker 1: you know, it's a lot to keep it's a lot
- 43:38Speaker 1: to keep up. It's a lot to ask of your body.
- 43:41Speaker 1: And I have to say with confidence that I felt
- 43:45Speaker 1: a sense of relief when it wasn't something that was
- 43:49Speaker 1: expected of me, that wasn't exactly what you know I'm
- 43:52Speaker 1: known for. Or I was happy to say that someone
- 43:57Speaker 1: else's job right now, you know, like uh and just
- 44:02Speaker 1: you know, pound back the milkshakes. Yeah, yeah. And Paul
- 44:07Speaker 1: Rudd said something very similar to me. He was like,
- 44:09Speaker 1: you know, I felt great when I was doing it.
- 44:12Speaker 1: But I'm gonna tell you something right now, I'd love
- 44:15Speaker 1: to drink a milkshake right now, I'd like something, you
- 44:17Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like, You're absolutely right. It's like
- 44:20Speaker 1: when you're doing it, you feel great and there's a purpose.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Somebody's paying you a lot of money to do this stuff.
- 44:25Speaker 1: But really, you know, living is a lot of fun too,
- 44:29Speaker 1: I feel. And you know, I gotta say something psychologically,
- 44:33Speaker 1: if I'm honest, I can look at those images now
- 44:37Speaker 1: and think I see a guy who is still insecure,
- 44:43Speaker 1: who still felt like, I don't know, a certain part
- 44:45Speaker 1: of your body didn't look the proportion that you were
- 44:47Speaker 1: hoping for. Or I learned from that that our self
- 44:52Speaker 1: image is just really tied up with a single thing,
- 44:57Speaker 1: and that's confidence. If you have that, it doesn't matter
- 45:02Speaker 1: how often you go to a gym or don't go
- 45:04Speaker 1: to a gym. I really learned that it's about the
- 45:07Speaker 1: person who you are and the rest is just decoration. Yeah.
- 45:11Speaker 1: Oh I wish I you know, I wish I had
- 45:14Speaker 1: that confidence when I go places like the beach and
- 45:18Speaker 1: stuff like that, Like I feel great in my skin
- 45:20Speaker 1: at home, I could prance around, make it in front
- 45:22Speaker 1: of my wife and stuff like that, and I'm confident
- 45:26Speaker 1: that I, you know, I still feel I still feel
- 45:29Speaker 1: and look sexy to her. When you go to the beach, though,
- 45:32Speaker 1: and there's a and there's a you know, stigmatism of
- 45:36Speaker 1: how everybody's supposed to look and you don't necessarily fit
- 45:40Speaker 1: that type. It's like, wait a second. You know I
- 45:43Speaker 1: don't necessarily want to take my shirt off and jump
- 45:44Speaker 1: into the water, now, you know what I mean? I have,
- 45:47Speaker 1: I have. I have real issues when it comes to that. Um.
- 45:50Speaker 1: I remember working so hard to get in shape and
- 45:53Speaker 1: look a certain way, you know, when, just like you said,
- 45:58Speaker 1: when it was time for the big reveal, I felt
- 46:00Speaker 1: like I didn't reach my goal, you know what I mean?
- 46:03Speaker 1: And then I look back at it now and I'm like,
- 46:05Speaker 1: holy shit, I looked right bad, Like, holy look at that.
- 46:10Speaker 1: But it never back. I remember we talked about this
- 46:13Speaker 1: on the podcast. I just wish I could have been
- 46:15Speaker 1: present when I you know what I mean, Like there
- 46:19Speaker 1: were so many things on my mind when all the
- 46:22Speaker 1: projects that I've made before. I wish I could have
- 46:24Speaker 1: just been just experienced every moment, and I didn't. I
- 46:29Speaker 1: was too worried about this or too interested in something
- 46:32Speaker 1: else to really focus on, you know. And now the
- 46:37Speaker 1: age that we live in, everybody has a camera right
- 46:40Speaker 1: in their pocket, and we're all privy to one another physiques,
- 46:45Speaker 1: and it's you know, it's a it's a it's a
- 46:48Speaker 1: it's a macabre pastime that is available to everyone. And
- 46:53Speaker 1: you know, depending on where you are in the world, country,
- 46:57Speaker 1: part of the country, Somewhere in the back of my mind,
- 47:00Speaker 1: I always wonder, is there's somebody with a long lens?
- 47:02Speaker 1: You know, is there a sniper right where are you? Yeah?
- 47:07Speaker 1: Did you you happen a lot in LA for sure,
- 47:10Speaker 1: But out of LA is that one of the like
- 47:12Speaker 1: tell us a little bit about relief. I mean, for
- 47:15Speaker 1: that reason alone, that you know, because it's it's uh,
- 47:18Speaker 1: it's a place that's that's that's that's myopic in that sense. Yeah.
- 47:23Speaker 1: And you know, with distance you can get some perspective. Yeah. Um,
- 47:28Speaker 1: which was which was helpful to me. Yeah, for sure.
- 47:30Speaker 1: You know, my wife always says, She'll say something to
- 47:34Speaker 1: me like, you know, I'm just bigger than everybody. And
- 47:37Speaker 1: I'm like in LA. I mean, you're bigger than everybody
- 47:43Speaker 1: in LA. And you go any place else and people
- 47:47Speaker 1: would be like, damn girl, either sandwich or something, you
- 47:51Speaker 1: know what I mean. But I think it's good when
- 47:53Speaker 1: actors get out of New York and in LA. I mean,
- 47:56Speaker 1: you have to have reached a certain level of of
- 47:59Speaker 1: stature in the business. Says you have where you can
- 48:01Speaker 1: kind of be anywhere you want. Um. But um, I
- 48:06Speaker 1: fantasize about that sometimes. I don't know about you donald
- 48:08Speaker 1: about about being able to be somewhere that's not in
- 48:11Speaker 1: the heart of the industry. I think, well, yeah, you'd
- 48:14Speaker 1: get more for your buck. First of all, you get more,
- 48:17Speaker 1: you know what I mean. The two million dollars that
- 48:19Speaker 1: you spend in Los Angeles gets you a room with
- 48:22Speaker 1: the window. You do that shit in Montana and you
- 48:24Speaker 1: got a ranch, you know what I mean, it's a
- 48:28Speaker 1: huge difference. I would I would you know, I can't
- 48:30Speaker 1: picture you on a ranch. Would you like a ranch
- 48:32Speaker 1: I could pick? I could pick him. Listen, I could
- 48:34Speaker 1: picture myself in Yeah, I know. But wait, Donald, I
- 48:38Speaker 1: never asked you. This doesn't have to have animals on it.
- 48:40Speaker 1: It just needs to know. I never asked you this.
- 48:43Speaker 1: I never asked you this. If you could live anywhere
- 48:45Speaker 1: in the country that's not a New York or la
- 48:48Speaker 1: and and you could have you know, you could you know,
- 48:50Speaker 1: money's no object. I don't mean like some stupid epic mansion.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I mean, like you know, you have all the money
- 48:54Speaker 1: that you want to spend. What would you choose? Would
- 48:57Speaker 1: you choose the Montana ranch or would you choose I
- 49:01Speaker 1: don't know what. I can't picture what. I never asked
- 49:03Speaker 1: you what you're what that would be for you. I'm
- 49:06Speaker 1: a city boy, so I'd have to live in I'd
- 49:07Speaker 1: have to find something. I'd have to live in the city.
- 49:09Speaker 1: But uh, if I if I could live any place,
- 49:12Speaker 1: there's two places that I would love to live. One Toronto.
- 49:15Speaker 1: I love the I love the city. It's one of
- 49:17Speaker 1: my favorite cities of all time. If I could live
- 49:19Speaker 1: anywhere and and have and if money was no object,
- 49:23Speaker 1: which it always is, but if it wasn't an object, dude,
- 49:26Speaker 1: I would live somewhere in Toronto that was freaking, you know,
- 49:31Speaker 1: wonderful and great either there or I you know, I
- 49:35Speaker 1: am a huge fan of London, you know this. It's
- 49:38Speaker 1: one of my favorite cities. I do like that area.
- 49:40Speaker 1: And you're very popular there. You're like, you're like, you know,
- 49:43Speaker 1: Denzel Washington of the United Kingdom. No, I disagree. There's
- 49:47Speaker 1: people like John Boyega. There are a bunch of people
- 49:50Speaker 1: from the United They do love you, and the people
- 49:57Speaker 1: that are listening in the United them can attest to
- 50:00Speaker 1: loving Donald Faizon. All right, how about this, if y'all
- 50:03Speaker 1: love me in the United Kingdom like you love Denzel
- 50:05Speaker 1: or more than you love Denzel, hit me up on
- 50:08Speaker 1: Twitter and Instagram and say that shit. Yeah, I'm gonna
- 50:11Speaker 1: send it to Denzel and be like, in your face, Denzel,
- 50:13Speaker 1: let your face, let this Let this week. I got
- 50:16Speaker 1: the UK on Locke, My god, I got the UK
- 50:18Speaker 1: on lock. You're gonna make Brendon have to pull out
- 50:21Speaker 1: his earphones. Don't yell with our guests. Sorry, sorry, sorry, sorry.
- 50:25Speaker 1: M Brendon, I know you have to go. We don't
- 50:27Speaker 1: want to keep you longer than uh than we then
- 50:29Speaker 1: we promised we would, but we just wanted to really
- 50:31Speaker 1: tell you that we love you and that the fans
- 50:32Speaker 1: love you, and that uh and then I hope, um,
- 50:36Speaker 1: if you're if you, if this wasn't too horrible, I
- 50:38Speaker 1: hope that you'll come back when we when we get
- 50:40Speaker 1: to season three for that very special episode, because whenever
- 50:45Speaker 1: fans talk about their favorite episode, it's either that one
- 50:48Speaker 1: or the musical usually, right Donald, Yeah, absolutely, uh more
- 50:52Speaker 1: more of that one though. That's everyone's. It seems like
- 50:56Speaker 1: that's the universal number one episode for all of the
- 51:00Speaker 1: Scrubs fans. It's rare that we get anything else. It's
- 51:03Speaker 1: always the one where where your character passes away and
- 51:08Speaker 1: Cox has no idea where he's at at the end. Well,
- 51:11Speaker 1: you guys are really kind and you were so kind
- 51:14Speaker 1: to me then, and I'm really grateful for that experience,
- 51:17Speaker 1: and he means a lot to me that people still
- 51:22Speaker 1: are finding it today and that that you included me
- 51:27Speaker 1: on the show. Thank you included you, dude. We were
- 51:29Speaker 1: so happy that you were doing I remember when we
- 51:31Speaker 1: found out show. It's like, holy shit, Yeah, we got
- 51:36Speaker 1: a real star. We got a real star. We got
- 51:40Speaker 1: it's like a fishing we got one on the line. Um,
- 51:44Speaker 1: thank you so much, and everybody check out Doom Patrol.
- 51:47Speaker 1: When is it? When is the season two premi June
- 51:49Speaker 1: twenty five, June twenty five on HBO Max guys, check
- 51:52Speaker 1: it out. And Brendan, thank you so much. We love it.
- 51:56Speaker 1: I don't know. Oh my god, what what a what
- 52:05Speaker 1: a what a sweet human being? Huh that was so awesome, dude,
- 52:09Speaker 1: I can't believe we had him on. But he's just
- 52:11Speaker 1: like his You know, these people they just and you
- 52:14Speaker 1: you're so happy when they're coming to your life. They
- 52:16Speaker 1: just tryd to glow peace and kindness, you know. I
- 52:20Speaker 1: even though we're over Zoom, he's just he's just he's
- 52:23Speaker 1: just fire hosting his heart at you. You know what
- 52:26Speaker 1: I mean. He's got that at heart light. He's got
- 52:28Speaker 1: the at heart light. He said it better than I do.
- 52:31Speaker 1: He's got an et glowing heart light. You feel it,
- 52:34Speaker 1: you feel it. I'm glad that. I'm almost glad that
- 52:38Speaker 1: he couldn't stay the whole time because I was looking
- 52:40Speaker 1: at all my notes about turning talking through the episode,
- 52:42Speaker 1: and I'm like, I don't want to bother Brendan by
- 52:44Speaker 1: talking about doctor Zeltzer. Right, Like Brendan sitting there being like,
- 52:50Speaker 1: I don't I don't know anything about it. I don't
- 52:52Speaker 1: want to. I don't want to. I don't care that
- 52:54Speaker 1: that that's that's that. Rob had a big bit of
- 52:57Speaker 1: medical jargon. What the fuck do I give a funk?
- 52:59Speaker 1: I gotta go feed my kids. Well, you did the
- 53:01Speaker 1: whole we'd skipped over the whole tony shalute situation. We're talking,
- 53:04Speaker 1: go back, go back. Now that Brendon's gone, I can relax,
- 53:06Speaker 1: I can breathe. I was so nervous. I wanted to
- 53:08Speaker 1: do a good job. Now now it's just me, Now
- 53:11Speaker 1: it's just us four, I can I can talk about Zeltzer.
- 53:14Speaker 1: I can talk about anything. This whole tony salute thing.
- 53:16Speaker 1: This was before he started winning all the Emmy's. Huh yeah,
- 53:20Speaker 1: before he started beating me every single time, beating you.
- 53:22Speaker 1: He beat everyone, dude, he beat everyone. I know what everyone? Okay,
- 53:28Speaker 1: do you know what that's from? Do you know what
- 53:30Speaker 1: that's from? No, you never saw the professional oldman. Oh yeah,
- 53:36Speaker 1: of course. With now that Gary, Yeah, Gary oldman and
- 53:38Speaker 1: they we've got him upstairs. What do you want? Bring me? Everyone? Everyone,
- 53:45Speaker 1: every I'm sorry if you're listening to this podcast on earbuds,
- 53:52Speaker 1: I apologize. I will try and counterbalance it with this
- 53:55Speaker 1: soft podcast voice I have. You don't remember that? Do
- 53:58Speaker 1: you remember that SNLS get where they were doing like
- 54:00Speaker 1: a it was like the Sweaty Balls one where they
- 54:02Speaker 1: were doing like yeah, but that was when Alcaholm was
- 54:07Speaker 1: the guest start. But the normal show was like yes,
- 54:08Speaker 1: they talked like this, that's fun, that's really fun. Oh,
- 54:11Speaker 1: it's great. The Ben and Jerry's ice cream flavor now
- 54:14Speaker 1: Sweaty Balls. H I want to see it's like balls
- 54:17Speaker 1: of peat. Oh. Man, I was hoping, what's your favorite
- 54:21Speaker 1: Ben and Jerry's that we should try and get them
- 54:23Speaker 1: as a sponsor so we can get buckets of free
- 54:25Speaker 1: ice cream. Dude, Ben and Jerry's rocks. Yo, Ben, listen.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I will pay money for Ben and Jerry's from here
- 54:32Speaker 1: on out, especially after this whole the whole black Lives
- 54:36Speaker 1: Matter situation that's been going on, when they straight up said, yo,
- 54:40Speaker 1: black lives matter. Anyone say anything else, pretty much, go
- 54:44Speaker 1: fuck yourself. Good for them. I love it. By the way,
- 54:49Speaker 1: I'm not just saying that. I really I can't have
- 54:52Speaker 1: Ben and Jerry's in my house because I'll just snort
- 54:54Speaker 1: it like it's fucking cocaine. WHOA do we need to
- 54:58Speaker 1: have a conversation about issue. No, I'm just saying, imagine
- 55:02Speaker 1: that when I people that have a coke problem, I
- 55:04Speaker 1: think a problem if you're snorting ice cream like it
- 55:07Speaker 1: you don't like you don't snort your ice cream. Donald
- 55:09Speaker 1: It's only problem when you get a particularly chunky flavor
- 55:12Speaker 1: and that like a peanut butter pretzel, gets stuck in
- 55:15Speaker 1: your nose. Oh my gosh. I like Chubby Hubby a lot. Well,
- 55:22Speaker 1: Daniel is freaking out over there. He likes that too,
- 55:26Speaker 1: Like no Play, I can never find it, but it's
- 55:28Speaker 1: my favorite flavor. So I love Chubby. I like anything
- 55:31Speaker 1: basically anything with peanut butter because I like peanut butter
- 55:34Speaker 1: and chocolate in my ice cream. I see that, I like,
- 55:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna be honest with you. I'm gonna be honest
- 55:41Speaker 1: with you. I don't eat a lot of Ben and
- 55:43Speaker 1: Jerry's ice cream. That is the honest to goodness. Is
- 55:45Speaker 1: there another brand that you would have the audacity to
- 55:47Speaker 1: choose because we're trying to get them to be our sponsors,
- 55:49Speaker 1: So don't fund this up from There isn't another brand
- 55:51Speaker 1: that I would have the audacity to choose. I'm just
- 55:53Speaker 1: saying it hasn't been something that I have been getting
- 55:58Speaker 1: a lot of. Oh because you're trying to day thin,
- 56:00Speaker 1: but then you go home and make the shot yourself.
- 56:02Speaker 1: I prefer to make my ice cream. So if Ben
- 56:05Speaker 1: and Jerry's wants to become a sponsor and teach them up,
- 56:07Speaker 1: fuck how to make somebody's flavors. Yeah, so that's what
- 56:10Speaker 1: Benjor is gonna do. They're gonna come on and teach
- 56:12Speaker 1: you how to make their top secret ice cream. I wouldn't.
- 56:14Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I wouldn't give it away. I would keep
- 56:16Speaker 1: it for myself. There are a bunch of There are
- 56:18Speaker 1: a bunch of things that I wish the owners of
- 56:20Speaker 1: the company would be like, all right, look, we're just
- 56:22Speaker 1: gonna give you the recipe. Keep that shit to yourself,
- 56:25Speaker 1: but you can make it at home. Crispy cream, Hello,
- 56:28Speaker 1: teach me how to make a donut? What about those
- 56:30Speaker 1: salts Cure pancakes? The salts Cure pancakes. Yeah, my restaurant
- 56:35Speaker 1: in Los Angeles. Donald them try I've never had yourself
- 56:37Speaker 1: oh my bed. Oh yeah. And then there's the salts
- 56:40Speaker 1: Cure pancakes are very, very tasty. But you know where
- 56:44Speaker 1: I really like the pancakes is Dupars, dear du Pause. Listen, no, no, listen,
- 56:50Speaker 1: no you fuck you fuck myself, motherfucker. Hold on, hold on,
- 56:54Speaker 1: goddamn it. Hold on. I am now going back to
- 56:57Speaker 1: my podcast voice to counterbalance an old loud voice. And
- 57:02Speaker 1: then and then Mastros, if you could teach me how
- 57:04Speaker 1: to make that buttercake. Yo, that buttercake, that buttercake. Masstros?
- 57:10Speaker 1: You remember you remember Masstros? Where we used to go
- 57:11Speaker 1: for steak Night? Yeah? Yeah? Do you remember steak Night?
- 57:15Speaker 1: I know you don't eat meat anymore, but do you
- 57:16Speaker 1: remember steak Night? Of course we used to legit, go
- 57:18Speaker 1: to steak Night. It is the world's best meat. It
- 57:21Speaker 1: is such a treat. Are you going a stag night? Yeah?
- 57:26Speaker 1: Made that song up. I want the world to know.
- 57:28Speaker 1: That was another in addition to our theme song with
- 57:30Speaker 1: the help of Charlie Pooth. A Steak Night with No
- 57:33Speaker 1: Help from Charlie Pooth is an original song by Donald
- 57:36Speaker 1: Fazon and I were you going a stag night? Gonna
- 57:40Speaker 1: eat it right? Steak steak is best meat steak night.
- 57:50Speaker 1: And then we did the fucking this dance Brady Bunch dance. Yeah.
- 57:54Speaker 1: Do you remember when the Brady Bunch mut did there
- 57:56Speaker 1: like would perform it's like a band. Like in the
- 57:58Speaker 1: later episodes, they became like a band, and that was
- 58:01Speaker 1: their move, like, when it's time to change, you've got
- 58:04Speaker 1: to real range. Shenna Nina nine Nana Shenanana Yo, let meanana.
- 58:12Speaker 1: What was happening at the time, What was happening? Peter
- 58:14Speaker 1: went through puberty, remember, and he went he was like
- 58:16Speaker 1: if you remember that episode, if you're old enough to remember,
- 58:19Speaker 1: he was going through puberty, and and he when he
- 58:22Speaker 1: was singing his song, he was like, when it's time
- 58:23Speaker 1: to change, You've got to real range. And they were like,
- 58:27Speaker 1: oh no, what are we gonna do? Peters going through puberty?
- 58:30Speaker 1: What the fuck happened? And all of a sudden, the
- 58:31Speaker 1: Brady Bunch were in a band, like out of nowhere.
- 58:34Speaker 1: It was like Season one The Brady Bunch, they're having
- 58:37Speaker 1: a hard time coming together as a family. Season two,
- 58:40Speaker 1: The Brady Bunch, They're going to school now. Things are great.
- 58:43Speaker 1: Season three they're in a band like what. I don't
- 58:46Speaker 1: know if it was season three. I don't know either.
- 58:48Speaker 1: I'm just guessing, but out of nowhere all but it
- 58:50Speaker 1: had to be. Can you find out when how many
- 58:52Speaker 1: seasons in the Brady Bunch became? It's the same shit, Donald,
- 58:54Speaker 1: it's jumping the shark. It's like red haired Sam coming
- 58:57Speaker 1: into different strokes. You gotta shake shit up. They they
- 59:00Speaker 1: went to fucking Hawaii and jumped the shark to remember
- 59:02Speaker 1: the Hawaiian Well, of course you remember. I mean we'd
- 59:07Speaker 1: use it in scrubs. We gotta sell those tiki necklaces
- 59:10Speaker 1: on our merch shop one day, yeah, one day when
- 59:13Speaker 1: I heartshits are our merch shop going okay? Someone said
- 59:17Speaker 1: that wait, can I fucking finish a sentence for the
- 59:21Speaker 1: listen for listen for the love of yahweh sentence for?
- 59:27Speaker 1: Someone told me, um, they had a good merch idea
- 59:30Speaker 1: that they thought. When I mistakenly said sports players instead
- 59:33Speaker 1: of athletes, someone said, please pick a T shirt that
- 59:37Speaker 1: says sports players on it. I like that. I'd read
- 59:42Speaker 1: the funk out of that sports players. I wish what's
- 59:45Speaker 1: your last thing? Let's talk about Let's talk about Ted's bands. Okay,
- 59:48Speaker 1: thank you. See man, this is why I should I
- 59:50Speaker 1: should just say what I want to say, because now
- 59:52Speaker 1: it looks like I'm jumping on your coat tails. That's
- 59:54Speaker 1: what I wanted to talk about. Let's talk about Ted's band. Okay,
- 59:57Speaker 1: Ted's band is said first, isn't reduced? In this episode
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: you get to see um for the second time. What
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: a ridiculously beautiful voice our Sammy Lloyd had. And it's
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: so tragic to use the word had, but it is
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: accurate to say had he um. This was real. This
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: was his friends, all his all those men, those three
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: men are his buddies. And they all sang acapella with him.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: And so we gave them Bill gave them jobs in
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the hospital and and and formed an acapella group. And
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: as I read on Scrubs wiki, um, it was originally
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: supposed to be the Superman theme, but they couldn't get
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: the rights. Yes, so that's how Underdog came about. I
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: remember that would have made more sense because there's a
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: whole Superman motif, but they could remember Sam and we
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: can sing it on here because we're not gonna I
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: don't think we'll get in trouble for it if we
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: will cut it out. But it was like three bullets
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: of speed left be high, two powerful trains turned around,
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: one able to leap buildings, tall, inner run all in
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: one single bound Superman Superman where it is Superman Superman,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Superman called like Superman human of Steve Wait. These lyrics
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: on these are written by Sam and his band the
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: band Oh So the song I mean he made me
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: think that this was the theme song had lyrics. John
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: Williams wrote this, John right, right, right right, so it
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: was just done right and so they sang the whole
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: song with words I have it on my iPhone like
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: it's something that stuck. Those guys, those those guys wrote
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: it and the lyrics, as I recall on Paul, one
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: of the members of the band, wrote all a bunch
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: of them the songs from them musical. Did he not
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: write the guy love, Oh don't? I don't know. Will
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: you look that up for me too? I think this
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: is a this is a great Bill Lawrence question. Now, okay, hey, Bill,
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: talk to us about Ted's band, Ted's band and Paul
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: from the band whose name I can't quite remember right now,
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: but we will say it. In this episode. Um didn't
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: he write um some of the musical, including the song
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: guy Love, because I feel like that's a bit of trivia.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: That's that's true. Also, where did you come up with
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: the idea? I mean it's obvious, but oh I got it.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: Paul Perry Sorry, um, sorry, guys, it's in Um it's
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: a Philip McNiven or George George forgive me if I
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: don't say your name right, misserless and and Paul Perry.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: I believe it was Paul Perry and uh and Bill
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: will tell Us who wrote a bunch of the musical songs.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Bill tell Us, Now, hey, guys, it's cool talking to you.
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: Look Paul Perry Um who as part of Ted's band
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: who were known as the Blanks in real life. This
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: is how Sam Lloyd came into my life. He was
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: on Spin City back in the days, Chris Lloyd's nephew.
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: He played basketball with us Donald You played ball with him.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: And he had this super talented acapella band that like
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: wrote the lyrics to Superman, made him up and used
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: to do it at parties and stuff, and they were
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: just so darn talented. And Paul used to do all
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: the arrangements for them, so we just started using them
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: on the show. Is kind of a Greek chorus with commercials,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: theme songs and TV's theme songs. So fun and you.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: Paul ended up writing a bunch of the songs for
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: Guy Love and a musical on his own as well,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: and more importantly too, the Blanks ended up touring as
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: you know, the Worthless Peons. Ted's band after the show rapped,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: doing songs from the show and the theme song and
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: their version of the theme song in the finale is
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: one of my favorites. Super talented group top to bottom
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: and man, just even talking about him makes me miss Sam.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: Thank you Bill. Finally, where we're in the hospital where
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: the three of us get the hospital over right, and
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: Ted's bands performing and they do Charles in Charge. Yeah,
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: that was a great moment to new boy in the
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: neighborhood lives downstairs and it's understood he's there just to
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: take good care of me, like he's one of the family.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Charles Charles in Charge, Oh day, and I love that show.
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: Didn't you love that show? I did? I did love
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: that show. Nicole Leggart Nicole Leggert, Nicole Leggart a moment
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: of silence for puberty. All right, let's talk about Zeltzer
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Bob Lyndennon. This is his first appearance. He's pretty normal
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: in this episode. Zeltzer doesn't really get that wacky yet.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: He doesn't really fly his his his flag. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: I know I noticed that. How about Rob Machio with
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: the medical jargon, I know, man, most impressive. He really
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: killed that. And um and then, by the way, another
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: thing that came up, there's a lot of in addition
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: to Eagle and Ted's band of premiering in this episode.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: This was a thing that we always choked about. Was
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: um uh that that Rob is the best surgeon. Um
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: that according to doctor Wynn right that he because he
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: does um he's what does he say? He goes, um, Well,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: everybody else's everybody else is thinking about what they This
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: dude is just thinking. Has nothing in his brain or something. Yeah,
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: I don't forget. He's like, he's like, oh, I know
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: what it is. It's the tiny Yeah, Rob, I say
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: this every episode every episode that he's in. Man, he
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: really does knock it, knock it out the park man.
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: I'm it was funny. By the way, this is a
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: we go into your head at fourteen twenty one. That
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: was like out of character for the show. We go
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: into your head and uh, we hear what your thoughts are,
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: and that's how we we cameras around to see. By
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: the way, and you had jargon. But I imagine you
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: just read that ship. I read that ship off the
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: piece of paper. Matt, I'm pretty sure. But I heard
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: you saying that medical Jarre does they donald read that ship?
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: He didn't remember read that right? And if you know,
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: I read that shit. So when he's smacking the assid
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: the nurse, did you notice that the nurse got her
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: ass a little perched up high enough so that the
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: j the gag works. Yeah, of course, that's that's how
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: to make the joke fun. I don't know what she's doing.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: She doesn't appear to be doing anything. But no, she's
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: just sitting there doing nothing. That's Lynn. No, by the way, yeah,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: that's that's our friend she but she she she doesn't.
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: I'm just gonna scroll because I have the episode open.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: I'm just wondering if she at least is pretending to
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: do something, because, as I recall, she just looked like
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: she was bent over. Season three, episode sixteen of The
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: Brady Bunch The Kids, Um, the kids that they covered
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: Casey in the Sunshine Band. It looks like it was
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: a ploy for Paramount Records. They were like, did it
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: for three or four seasons? I told you it was
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: season three? See I have shit right and everything? Man,
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: did you guess season three? Holl hell? Did you know
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: your Brady Bunch lore? Though? Of course I guess that shit.
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: Do you do the Brady Bunch Wiki? I should do
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: the Brady Bunch Wiki? I should. You're You're so funny,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: You're like, you're you don't remember the fucking most obvious
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: shit in our relationship? And then you'll be like the
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: Brady Bunch Kids started singing in nineteen seventy two. It
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: was episode sixteen of season three. All right, um, I
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: want to talk about the choreographed move Should we talk
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: about that? Yeah? That was cool? Do you remember doing that?
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Whenever all of us are doing the exact same movements? Um,
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: and it's a split screen and we're all thinking, and
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: it's all the exact same choreography. And then I read
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: on scrubs Wiki that for some reasons, Judy's was backwards
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: in terms of right, left and so they flipped her.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: And that's why if you look, Judy's name tag is
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: on the wrong side, because in post her choreography wasn't right,
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: so they flipped her. I did not I did not
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: know that. I'm gonna be honest with you. I thought
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: this episode was going to have way more Brendan Frasier
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: in it. To be honest with you, I thought it
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: was like a whole episode about, you know, what happened
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: to the character. I didn't know that other ship went
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: on in the hospital, so when watching it, I was like,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: I don't remember any of this, Like I know, that's
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: why I felt weird, Like I wanted to talk to Brendan,
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: but I was like, I feel bad, Like I want
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: to talk about the episode, but I don't want to
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: put fancy Brendan through. Like talking about the fact that
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: Johnny sees wearing his actual Oakleys when we do the
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: real world spoof. Right, that's such a hilarious It's so funny, Right,
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: did you see my hair? Dude? Your hair's amazing. I
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: took a picture of it to show my girlfriend. It's
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: so funny. And Johnny's wearing those comedic Oakleys, but those
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: are really his Okleys. Johnny sees the kind of guy
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: that really would rock those oak He probably still wears
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: them those like wrap around like wrap around oakleys. They're
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: perfect for athletes who have to who are on the go.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Like if you're jogging and you have the wrap around oakleys,
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: no sunlight gets in and they don't fall your face.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: I don't care. I love Johnny, but I'm not wearing
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: those oakleys. Donald than either. Are you no matter what
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: support you're playing? Dude, you are you you? Let's be
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: let's tell everybody what you are. You're more amazing, amazing. Well, dude, no,
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: I love you, and you know I think you're amazing,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: but you're also uh when it comes to sunglasses, you're
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: very much. Uh. What's the one that the aviator? Yeah,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: like eater guys, I'm or ray bands or or yeah
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: that's sort of vibe. Yeah, ray band aviators. But I
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: wouldn't rock a colored glass wrap around oakley. That's not
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: my vibe. If you if you're playing tennis, why not.
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: I just think they look I don't. I know. Johnny listens, Johnny,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: I love you, It's just not my style. Let me
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: let me let me just start off by said Johnny listen,
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: Johnny listen. Johnny listens while he's weightlifting, and I know
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: he's like, oh, like pump an iron right now. I
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: don't want to be like, fuck you, Braf. I love
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: my old glass. Johnny got him on right now in
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: the gym. No, I want to talk about how not
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: only does the janitor pick a lock would that isn't locked?
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: Did you notice that No, I didn't like, no one
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: took the time to find lockers that would have even
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: like a fake lock. It's like so clearly not locked.
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: And he takes a screwdriver and like pretends to pick
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: a non locked locker. And did you think that it
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: was weird that you were writing all of this stuff
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: in a diary like out of nowhere, like just out
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: of nowhere. I forgot all of a sudden the show's
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: dugie howser. And does that imply that all of JD's
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: of voiceovers are going into a journal? I never even
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: I mean I certainly didn't play it that way for
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: eight and a half years, right, So when I saw that,
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: I was like, wait a second, So there's there's data.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: There's information of everyone who, like somebody could go back
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: and in a time capsule or wherever you know you
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: passed passed away. There's freaking stacks and stacks of diaries
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: of everything that's ever happened to JD. I never really understood,
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: And it seems that this is the implication because it's
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: a voiceover that goes right in the diary that all
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: the voice over your hearing is JD's journal. Now, I
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: do remember that I had a journal had a unicorn
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: with a sword on its head, and Heed's there to
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: protect my hopes and dreams. And I want to show
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: that this. I want to the record to reflect this
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: journal did not have a unicorn with a sword on
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: its head, So no one is protecting my hopes and
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: dreams right now on this journal. That's why the janitor
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: is able to get in there. But I thought it
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: was funny when he said theater camp, because you know
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: that was me. He really yeah, But that's a that's
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: a that I mean. I know we went to Bill already,
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: But that's another great question for Bill. Are these JD's memoirs?
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: Are we living in present time when we watch this show?
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: You know what I mean? Is this something that took
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: place in the past. We'll ask him go ahead and
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: ask him formally, Donald, we can do a two biller? Bill,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: is scrubs JD's memoirs? Is is it like a bunch
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: of stories that JD has compiled in a bunch of
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: books or is this Are we living in the moment
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: from moment to moment? When ye, because we're seeing in
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: this episode Bill that JD's writing a journal and voiceover
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: goes right in the journal? Was this a Doogie Houser moment? Bill?
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: When do do do do Do Do Do Do Do
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: Do Do Do Do Do Do do do do do do
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: do do do do do do? Hey? The voiceover originally
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: was conceived as, um, you know, JD keeping stuff in
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: his journals, but uh, we ditched that and just kind
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: of made it. People just go with it. We made
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: it an omniscient voiceover, you know, because we are always
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: caught in his head and his thoughts, and people just
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: go with it. The same way on Modern Family, and
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: no one ever seemed to ask who was interviewing that
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: family and who was doing that documentary. You know, that's it. Okay,
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: We're gonna go to commercial, everybody, and thank you so
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: much for listening. Thank you for being our listeners. Our
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: friends are our compatriots, and we're gonna be right back
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: with a question from and we are bad and we're bad.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: We had Brendan Fraser on the episode. Nice pronunciation of Fraser.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: You didn't mess it up for the first time. We
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: have Alex and what's your dad's name? Core Alex and
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: Corey are now on the show from different location. Okay,
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: welcome to Fake Doctor's real friends. We're so happy that
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: you're here. Thank you. We're you guys. Oh, thank you.
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: We um tell us about yourselves. We just heard a
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: little bit. Our producer Joel said that you're you've been
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: watching the show in quarantine and you're not in You're
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: in different locations, So tell us what's going on. And
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: I see Corey as a piano right next to him. Corey, Corey,
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: are you a piano player? Are you a piano? You
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: going to play? It's a little something. I don't think so.
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: But I'm a piano teacher mostly okay, but I've been
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: I'm a composer and a piano teacher. So that's uh.
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: Since I can't give lessons in my living room on
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: my grand piano, I have to give him in my
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: office on my electronic piano over zoom. I wish, I
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: truly wish you knew the theme song to our little
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: Rewatch show. I love the theme song to your Rewatch show.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: I think you guys did a fantastic job singing it.
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: Thank you, really fantastic. I'm not so crazy about the
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: count in. But you know, I don't like you're saying
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: we're off tempo, Corey. No, I'm saying that you're covering
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: up the first couple of words because there's a there's
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: a there's a pickup. You know, there's a story. So
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: you say five to six seven eight, seven eight, there's
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: a story. It's kind of covered, but you know it's
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: a it's a stick now, and so there's there's no
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: way you can change it from here. No, you know what,
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: I'm gonna change it when we finished this, when we
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: finished this, I'm gonna change it just for you, just
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: for this, just for this podcast. I never imagine we're
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: gonna go one two but one, No, No, you want
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: to go five six seven, there's a story, right, I
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: can go five six, five six, you can do that.
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: I said, I no offense, Corey, but I think the
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: fans will revolt because they really love Donald's five six,
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: seven eight. They do. They love everybody's. Yeah, So, like
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: I said, it's it's probably ingrained and there's nothing new
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: about it, but it's it's just every time it habits,
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: it just kind of bothers. It irks you. All right, Well,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: I'm sorry, Donald, I'm doing it for you. I'm doing
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: it for you. Cory, Corey, tell us how you and
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: Alex started watching the show and was this your first
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: time through? Alex, why don't you tell us since Corey's
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: getting all the screen time? Yeah, oh no, it's it's okay.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: I mean, the reason why I wanted us to come
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: on it is because Father's Day come is coming up,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: and I said, for dad for a gift, come on
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: the show. But um, so I don't have to pay
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: for anything. I see how you do it. I see
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: how she's still going to get him a card. I'm
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: a favorite daughter. Now here we go. No, So, I
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: think I can't remember who started watching the show first,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: if it was my dad or myself. This is not
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: our first time in Quarantine. I would say I've seen
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: every episode of the show multiple multiple times, and I
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: think the same as for my dad. But we really
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: bonded over our love of the show. I think we
- 1:16:19Speaker 1: watched it separately and then came together and realized that
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: we were both watching it, and um, we like quiz
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: each other on Little Scrubs, Trevi effects a lot, and
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: it's just something that we really bondled over. Is our
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: love for the show. For you guys, we love that.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: We love families that watch together. And you know, also
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: people finding it. What's been crazy about this new era
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: of streaming. You know, the show used to be on Netflix,
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: now it's on Hulu. Is that more generations keep finding
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: it And I think that's really that's really cool. It
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: kind of keeps on going. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Um, I
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: don't know if I watched it when it first came on.
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: What year was the first season? Do you nine? I
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: was gonna say nineteen ninety nine. But but I do
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: own the complete collection of DVDs, So I'm hoping that
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: you guys got a little bit of money for me
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: purchasing that. It's a sore subject. It's a sore subject.
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: We don't talk about it. Well, well, we don't talk
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: about that, but I can tell you that you're if
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: you listen to DVDs, you'll have all the exact real music.
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: You won't have any weird. Um, you're you're the only
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: people with DVDs are the ones with no musical replacements. Yeah,
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: it was a It was a real good purchase for me. Um, great,
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Thank you so much. All right, do you guys have
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: a question for um, for Donald or for I or
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: for mouse? Is going to go first? I'm gonna go first. Um. Well,
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: let me just start by saying, I'm I'm so thrilled
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: to be here you guys. I am, I am shaking.
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: I'm like very excited, UM, very happy. I know huge
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: fans of you guys. Um Donald, I just have to
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: mention that last night, UM, my fiance and I rewatched
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: my favorite of your movies, I think, which is Remember
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: the Titans Say Okay, yes, I mean thank you, thank you.
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: You know what you know who has never seen Remember
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: the Titans Back? Don't back? It's Zach Braff. Well, I'm
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: gonna watch. We had a conversation at them. Thank you
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: for bringing this up out conversation. Thank you. We had
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: a conversation at the beginning of this episode, and Zach's like,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: it's all my to do list, It's all my to
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: do list Listen, man, I've seen every one of his projects,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: even the ones that didn't come out in theaters, even
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: the ones that went straight to video. I've seen everything
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: that Zach Braff has been in. I can count them
- 1:18:24Speaker 1: all on this hand right here. Well them. I thought
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: it was about sports players, and I didn't think that
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: I would like it. But I love Donald, I love Denzel,
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: and I love Rudy. So if it's anything like Rudy.
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: Do you like Ryan Gosling? Yes, I think he's wonderful.
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: He's in it. Yeah. Do you like it? What Harris
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: I think of it? I think if it has Rudy's
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: in it, I feel it gets rudy with Donald Fazon?
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Is that? Is it like that? No, it's not the listen.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Are you the Rudy? Freaking are you the Rudy? Because
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: if so, I'm fucking watching that shit tonight. I have
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: a Rudy moment. I have a Rudy moment. Why the
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: damn movie? Don't remember it? All right, Let's just put
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: it up like this. Let's put it like this. Let's
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: put it like this. Ryan Gosling, yeah, is up the
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: whole time, and I saved his ass. Let's just put
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: it that way. Okay, I'm gonna think about it, all right,
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: go ahead, all right, all right, So my question is
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: thank you for watching Alex of course, of course. So
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: one of the things that's just so incredible about the
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: show in general is the way that you can mix
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: the comedy and the silliness of the show with some
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: of these like more dramatic or serious moments that sort
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: of center around the theme of loss. Right, And I
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: know you just had Brendan Fraser on and that's a
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: really big, uh sort of you know, plot point in
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: the show for Doctor Cox, but of course with the
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: loss of John Ritter too. So I'm wondering if you
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: guys could talk a little bit about what it was
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: like to go through the experience of acting on a
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: really highly comedic show and then have to sort of
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: transition to these pretty serious storylines where the characters are
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: experiencing death and loss of some pretty important people in
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: their lives, including patients as well. Well. I'll tell you
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: there were times where I didn't think it was gonna work.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: There were there were plenty of times where I thought,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: this is like a hairpin turn in a car, How
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: are you going to go from me doing something so silly,
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: and then I walk into this patient's room and I'm
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: just dropping in for this dramatic moment, And I really
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: have to say, it's a testament to the writing and
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: to build He found a way to make it work.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: I mean, there were only twenty two minutes without commercials,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: so sometimes you'd read them and go, how can you
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: be in this weird fantasy and then drop in for
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: this moment where we have tears in our eyes. And
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: I think we just always tried to play it real. Um.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: Obviously this fantasies were heightened and some of the some
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: of the physical comedy was heightened, but we always tried
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: to deal with the patient moments like they were completely
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: played straight. Um. And I think of the show Mash
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: a lot, because, Um, when when I grew up, we
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: were watching Mash and it had a laugh track on it.
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: But when they went into the surgical uh, when when
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: they were operating on the soldier, there was no laugh track,
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: even though there'd still be some humor. It was just
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: sort of a choice they made. And I often think
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: of that in Scrubs. It was almost like there were
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: moments when the silioness stopped and we just dropped in
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: to play totally straight how a doctor would be with
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: a sick patient. So I don't know, I think, what
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: do you think, Donald? I think it was just a
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: matter of really good writing, to be frankly, absolutely that,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: and thank goodness that there were you know, that we
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: were able to cut in between scenes and stuff like that,
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: and it wasn't you know, if if this were a
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: play or something where there aren't any cuts in it,
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: it would be very You're absolutely right, it'd be very
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: hard to be funny, funny, funny, funny, funny and then
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: switch on a you know, turn on a dime and
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: now we're going to be serious. Thank goodness that we
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: had cuts, you know, and uh different scenes edits hit together.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: For that, this would have been a way more challenging
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: show if this if everything was done on one in
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: one take and you having to ride that emotional roller coaster.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: I think, you know, as any actor will tell you,
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: those are the most difficult scenes where you're starting like
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: because usually you work yourself up on days when I
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: have like a dramatic scene, I'll work myself up and
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: I'll get to the point where you know, I'm on
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: the verge of crying, and so now I don't have
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: to act that much to get to the tears. If
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: I had to be funny and laugh and joke around
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: and everything like that and then move into the dramatic
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: and the sadder side of the scene without a cut,
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: I don't know how I would be able to do.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: It would be such a challenge for me. So thank
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: goodness for the takes and editing. Also, it all comes
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: down to good writing. I mean you can make you can.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: You know, there's a movie Once I really love. I
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: don't know if you're yeah, great movie. But one thing
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: about Once is like Once is the ultimate example of like,
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: if you have a great script, you don't need that movie.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: That movie looks like a shot on an iPhone. No
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: disrespect to the cimatographer. I mean it's brilliant. But I
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: mean if if you have a great script and great actors,
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: you can you can make anything, anything work And uh
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: and uh, you know it's all. It's all. It all
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: comes down to great writing. Is that Thank you for
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: calling slowly Da da doo doo that one? I love
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: that movie? You check out one. Everyone stuff. We have
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of movie recommendations quiet American
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: once and remember the Titans. All right, Corey, do you
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: have a question for the legendary Donald phase on Where's
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: Zach Braff? I do so for me. I love the
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: fantasy sequences in the show. I mean, right from the
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: beginning there were such funny you know, And I think
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: my two favorite ones are when uh, the character Alex
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: you know, says, how would you feel if you know
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: I told you I was ready now to have sex?
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: And the marching band comes from crashing and your monkey
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: and the monkey with the symbols? Oh my god? And
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: I also love memorable it's in later seasons when uh,
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: somebody is trying to teach Elliott and tasty Como wife
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: a dance. I get Alex told me it was the
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: rewind dance. Oh man, And Elliott is so bad bad
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: at dead dance. She just such a fantastic job of
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: being a horrible at that, flapping her hands and kicking
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: her leg at the wrong time. Oh, very funny anyway,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: So I was just thinking about I wonder if there
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: were any fantasy scenes that were like pitched or written
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: or even filmed that just didn't make it into the
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: show that you remember. It's probably pretty tough. It's been
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: a long time. That's a very good question. I don't know, Donald,
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: do you know that might have to be our third
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: ask Bill? I think we're gonna have to ask Bill
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: a third time on this. It's just like, um, you
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: know that show Millionaire when you get we shouldn't you
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: should only be allowed a certain amount of like ask
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: a friend, call a friend. The audience like, oh, I
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: think you're okay. I would give you a passing calling Bill?
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: All right, So we're gonna ask Bill a third time.
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: I hope you can squeeze in a third one. Were
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: there any fantasies Bill that um that that didn't make
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: the cut? Do you have any memory of anything we
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: shot in a wacky fantasy that that was never in
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: the show. You guys are watching these shows again. I
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: can't remember any I'm so old. I can't remember any
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: fantasy scenes that were cut, except one that Gabby Allen
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: always wanted to do a fantasy about newsies. You know,
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: extra extra read all about it, and I think we
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: shot that and cut it because no one understood it.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: It wasn't a huge fan of musical theater. Uh, miss
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: you guys, love you both. Thank you, Bill, I don't
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: know one thing. You know, all often the fantasies took
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: a lot of time and money. Yeah so I so,
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: I feel like they were rarely cut because it was
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: kind of where budget was getting thrown. Um. You know.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: Sometimes they would be really elaborate and take a lot
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: of time and money. So usually they probably wouldn't be
- 1:25:48Speaker 1: unless something went wrong with them and they weren't funny.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: And I could see that some of them took a
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: long time to make it. It was like eight seconds
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: you oh, yeah, that's all. It was just eight seconds,
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: but you had to spend all day. Oh yeah, oh yeah,
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: there's some of them were so elaborate and they would
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: take forever to do and then it'll be fully quick.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: But they're just the laugh out loud parts of the show.
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: And I love a TV show that just makes me
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: laugh out loud but also has that serious All my
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: favorite shows have that, the lad What are some of
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: your other shows that you love? Freaks and Geeks is
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: probably one of my favorite shows. Yeah, great show. Yeah,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: and also Gilmore Girls is that way too. They don't
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: very serious subjects, but there's some really good laugh out
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: loud stuff on that For that show. They talk really
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: fast on Gilmore Girls, they do. I love it. I
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: love they're they're both they're incredibly witty. Um, all right, well,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: thank you guys. Um you're our very first father daughter
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: Colin and um and and we're very we're very happy
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: that you guys are bonding through our show. Because ladies
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: and gentlemen give a big round of applage for Alex
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: and co. Oh my god, does not sound like that.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: You sound like Oprah on fucking crack right now? No,
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: I don't sound like Oprah and crack sound like if
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: Oprah took a fucking hit a crack rock. Thank you,
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: Thank you thanks making us argue in front of all
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: the guests. We argued in front of Korey and Alex,
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: we argued in front of Brandon. The hell's wrong with you?
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: I'm trying to see what it sounds like. I'm trying
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: in my head if Oprah did crack? How like sounds
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: like that? Although, listen, there's one commercial and Oprah got
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: it right. Well, she gets a lot of things right,
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: but it's one of them Wait Watchers commercial. It's my
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: favorite commercial ever, it's your favorite commercial ever. It's a
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: Oprah week starts off like this, This is the joy
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: for me. I love bread, but favorite commercial dude, Yeah,
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: but who doesn't listen. I spent out of time in quarantine. Yeah,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: love bred. Do you know what I love more than anything?
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: Right now I'm noticing? Yeah, I love bread, all right,
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: love bread. She doesn't do it like that, she goes
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: down with it. It's not bread, it's bread. Um. All right,
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: thank you everybody for tuning in. We've done it. We

- 1:28:27Speaker 1: the show. One Ted's band that's on their record, also Underdog. Yeah.
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: And then I feel like we tied the story up
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: really quick in this episode. You know what, I think
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: we ran out of time. To be honest with you,
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: it feels like we ran out of time on this episode.
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: At the end of the episode, things tie up really quick.
- 1:28:46Speaker 1: We don't even go through the whole chemo process with
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: Brenda's character. We go right into oh, you know what,
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: chemo worked and it went right and the cancer went
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: into remission. Yeah. It feels like we had the tidy
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: a little bit so we could move on with the story.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: It's a lot. It's a lot. It's a lot too.
