- 0:00Hey, this is Matt from Werewolves. You're listening to another podcast with metal
- 0:03v on Heavy mag. What the only I can't say? Fox back time
- 0:48like a fox I tire? You'll wait, Tess, stop sing the last
- 0:55wise, fox off bass and smash your foss What a fairy ess? Ou
- 1:00far? Listen the storms store before us an help listens? Now there's a
- 1:15mass stars or cool respondetition. Constable's real posts. Oh, let's start straight
- 1:30into it. Four albums you five if you include the APA. Honestly,
- 1:38how do you continue to be so creative because this is not your only day.
- 1:42Let's be honest. I don't know, man, I've just it's it's
- 1:48just there, like I can. I don't really know how to answer it
- 1:51because it's almost I think I can, just as far as metal goes,
- 1:57death metal particularly, It's just it's fucking in my bones, man, like
- 2:01I can't not like it's there, like I could write. I could probably
- 2:06write an album starting tomorrow and haven't done in a few days. You know,
- 2:10it just it just happens. I can just do it. I don't
- 2:13know what it is. So is it just to create? Is it just
- 2:16a creativity thing? And you need to be creative and writing constantly and and
- 2:23and just get product out there because I mean there's a lot of there's a
- 2:30lot of music out there that you know, And with the review that I
- 2:34did, I didn't say sorry, I did say that I can't. I
- 2:39don't know if you guys are kind of rowing as a band and as a
- 2:46sound because there's so much stuff coming out, And do you do you just
- 2:52want to smother the world in extreme extreme metal? Maybe maybe that's that's the
- 2:57answer that I think. I don't know. It's just like I've been like
- 3:02both me and Sam, you know, when he when he joins in with
- 3:07what's happening. We've both been doing this for so long, and I think
- 3:15I think one of the things that you sort of grow that when when the
- 3:19when it happens you latch onto it is when you've got the opportunity and you
- 3:25know, like a fucking team of people where you can actually create and work
- 3:30and get things done, then it's like you've just got to fucking go with
- 3:34it because the fucking clock keeps ticking and the world keeps turning, and if
- 3:39you don't fucking do it this year, it won't happen. You know,
- 3:43Like you just just get it done, get the fucking job done, get
- 3:46started, make it happen. If I'm going to write an album, then
- 3:49I'm going to sit down, I'm going to do it and get it done.
- 3:53Yea. And then that's that's just the mindset, you know, And
- 3:55so many people don't have that. Well, for one, they they don't
- 4:00have that mindset, they don't have that fucking drive. And you know,
- 4:04not many people necessarily have that ability either. So when when you're lucky enough
- 4:09to fucking surround yourself with a few like minded savages, and this is in
- 4:15every fucking area of life as well, not just fucking death metal or you
- 4:17know, not just music, any anything. When you when you've got that
- 4:21opportunity to fucking guess it done, then you've got to fucking do it,
- 4:25you know. So I think it's probably that just taking advantage of finally having
- 4:29that situation, because I've played in many bands and not always had that fucking
- 4:34opportunity to really push just because people are at different parts of different stages of
- 4:40life, and you know, people want different things out of out of stuff,
- 4:45you know, so if you if the planet's aligned and you've got the
- 4:48opportunity to do something and fucking do it. That's sort of my you know
- 4:54thinking with that sort of with the death metal sort of creation. And they
- 4:59even still like with so much going on and so much music out there,
- 5:04attributing it to you, to you personally, Matt, and this will go
- 5:08to you as well. Sam, What's where Wolves? Matt Wilcops and Sam
- 5:13Being's mission statement uncompromising, unending death metal. Yeah, Sam, Sam stumping
- 5:23ay Man mission statement. Well, I was going to say, I think
- 5:28we did a song called Mission Statement and it basically encapsulated everything right there.
- 5:32But yeah, if we're going to sum it up in a sentence, it'll
- 5:35just be like, keep on smashing it all endlessly with death metal until like
- 5:42we fucking bleed, both of us, all of us. Yeah, and
- 5:47I'm sort of behind what Matt was saying before, Like you know, you
- 5:53probably know this as well, Like you start getting around this beIN Titch and
- 5:56he see sort of like you know, life now a little bit fucking horrific,
- 6:01just randomly for people. So yeah, very much. When you've got
- 6:06the opportunity to like just get after it, you fucking go for it.
- 6:11You just don't know what's coming around the corner, Sam, what have you
- 6:15done differently on my enemies looking sound like me to what you've done previously?
- 6:21Nothing, don't hold back, let's work unusual. Look, I was gonna
- 6:30say that, you know, if you do something like with any regularity,
- 6:35you get better at it. And what this is four years in or of
- 6:40making death metal albums. Normally people get the hang of it just after two
- 6:45and so yeah, no, it was sort of like got it going on.
- 6:48Maybe the big difference for me was like I wasn't focusing on I wasn't
- 6:54having a learned base or you know, the baselines or record bass lines at
- 6:59the same time as as I was writing the vocals, because we did all
- 7:02the instrumentation for albums two and three, like I'm not two and three,
- 7:06three and four sorry at the same time, and then kind of like you
- 7:12know, split songs up going right, this one's going on this album,
- 7:15this one we'll go on the other. And so that was a full on
- 7:18year, like you know, a couple of years ago, recording two albums
- 7:23worth of instruments and then then sorting out like the vocals for that album.
- 7:28But when it came to last year, I was able to really just like
- 7:30that was all I had on my plate so was able to really get after
- 7:36it. I'm noticing it this year because I've had to. I'm sort of
- 7:41like just in the throes of finishing off like my work on album five at
- 7:45the moment, so you know, I'm back to having to learn like the
- 7:49baselines and record them for an album as well as coming up with the vocals.
- 7:54And I'm like, oh Jesus Christ, I forgot what a workload this
- 7:58can be. Sometimes good day, this is the same, and this is
- 8:01not. And you're listening to another podcast from the Heavy Mug one two strays
- 8:05a don my Chad gage shout yet times gotta slid out y'all out yawn doll
- 8:13like Yo, okay, Hi chau y'all las bay show da yalla si jaghair

- 8:48I say yo. That's gotta say. I don't like your eyes, y

- 11:39and instead O my love, I set your wife. You have that tale
- 11:43my man to pay man. You will find out I down all y'all thoughts
- 11:48with guys, because or you'll do your legs And I just n like you
- 12:22what. The savagery of the attack would suggest the action of an animal or
- 12:26a lunatic. Perhaps, so are you guys living apart? Are you guys
- 12:31just sending tracks back and forth? Or are you like in a good vicinity
- 12:37where you can actually rese at the same time. It's all as far as
- 12:43ripening and recording. It all gets emailed, you know, like meet me
- 12:48and day. Well, oh, basically, I'll write a song, you
- 12:52know, give your take, and then I'll write a fucking album or to
- 12:56the point I'll send us to the guy. They'll generally, you know,
- 13:03I'll just say Dave might say, make this one a bit quicker, or
- 13:07maybe make that one to touch slower, just so it's a bit hard.
- 13:11He'll maybe like a few tempo suggestions, and Sam might make a couple of
- 13:16arrangements suggestions, and other than that, like it's all just done. Like
- 13:22I'll send the videos of the riffs, maybe a bit of an explanation of
- 13:26things, and he'll learn them on his own. Dave will just do his
- 13:31own thing drum wise, in his own time, and we don't. The
- 13:35first time we usually play a song, I guess last year has been when
- 13:39we are trying to learn it for for a gig or whatever I'm watching.
- 13:46I'm watching at the idea if you're just sending a song through like no,
- 13:50it's like I get a fucking zip file. It's got like eight or nine
- 13:54of the bastards in its like learning there's a really segue into the next question.
- 14:01Guys. You know, if there's eight or nine going out into a
- 14:03zip, Matt, how many songs are you writing for each album? Considering
- 14:07there's only eight or nine per album? I'll write nine, So like we've
- 14:13we've got a thing. We're pretty much just do nine songs. Yeah,
- 14:16I'll just I'll write nine and that'll be pretty much it. But I know
- 14:22that I'm confident with the nine songs, so like I know that they're going
- 14:26to be okay. So yeah, I'll just write nine at a time,
- 14:30and yeah, that's it. So with that, Sam and obviously Dad not
- 14:35being here, Like how much input do you have into putting things in and
- 14:41cutting things out out of what Matt writes. I think I've got a lot
- 14:45of luwahi to make suggestions. But to be honest, it turns up right
- 14:50there. It's very it's very it's very rare for me to sort of you
- 14:54know because normally, you know, not only as Matt worked and reworked it
- 14:58a little bit, Dave said he's piece as well by the time it comes
- 15:01through to me, So I, yeah, I've got very little little to
- 15:07say, like, and the other thing as well is like, yeah,
- 15:11I kind of trust in the guys. There will be songs that come through
- 15:16where it doesn't strike me immediately or whatever, and I'm just like, fuck
- 15:20it. I you know, I'm banging out vocals to this anyway no matter
- 15:22what, and it all seems to work out. So there's there is a
- 15:28fair bit of trust there. Like I'm like, you know, most of
- 15:33the stuff, I like, most of the stuff is already there. And
- 15:35I'm like, if you know, if I've got a question mark about something,
- 15:39unless it's really something that's getting my goat or not working, then I
- 15:43shut up and go with it because their metal instincts are true and pure.
- 15:50Let's play a song, Sam. I messaged you earlier about under the Ground
- 15:56and a lyric for that, because I actually wanted to use that as a
- 15:58tack one for the my review, good idea. Can you tell us about
- 16:04under the Ground and what the lyrical inspiration was behind that inspiration? Such the
- 16:11wrong word to use with us, but like, sorry, how to how
- 16:15to you know? It's that one's? That one's like we there's normally a
- 16:19song on each album where like we absolutely fucking give it to our fans,
- 16:23like for having the temerity to listen to us. And you know, one
- 16:30way we really ripped into people, and that's that song on this album.
- 16:34Like I think I've been listening to two packs hit him up like the one
- 16:38you know, I think he got shot for and and I just thought how
- 16:42magnificent it was, Like, you know, to just go all out in
- 16:47a track and it's fucking death metal, Like if you can't really you know,
- 16:51give everyone and everything a spray, then you know, what the fuck?
- 16:56Why leave it to the gangster rappers? I mean, like, yeah,
- 16:57it's death metal. We're supposed to be able to go hard, so
- 17:00that's our go hard song. Like don't look for any deep lyrical meaning,
- 17:04any metaphors or anything like that. It's just a great big fuck off to
- 17:07everyone. Probably my favorite bit of the song is talking about Schrodinger's lyrics,
- 17:12like that little verse there where basically it's just formless grunting like during it.
- 17:18So yeah, it's it's got to be the sense of humor to it,
- 17:22but catchy track. We get to scream out ship cun as well, so
- 17:25it rules. I made sure. I made sure I put the I dropped
- 17:29sea bomb in the review too. By the way, under the grounds look
- 17:33and sound like me werewolves when anyone rememberable place to go? Say so good
- 18:00to go sound or clus everybody gonna do fall the down ruly on the ground
- 18:14on to over ground rock eye fowls crowing about my whole crowd, my own
- 18:30over eyes flu shoes go fro prays. That's where I ain't done ever again
- 18:51I was spak, will bide where out the happy eyes bark? Ain't they
- 18:55yell out of side Orsola No for no boss, don't boss say to bos
- 19:33turks or turks and don't toss door too. Juss world and why he r
- 19:40start? Now that's what you had for like he said he was saying he
- 19:44was said, he was said, like keep saying, God, why you
- 19:53crush your motherfuck us? Do no sway ard you know, a fucking pathetic
- 20:03count. It would be read for a band, Matt. You were talking
- 20:06before about when you find two or three or four or however many like minded
- 20:11people that you can just click with. You know a lot of bands come
- 20:15and go, and you can as a as a fan, as somebody who
- 20:18writes about metal, as somebody who's listened to it for a long time.
- 20:22You can feel and hear when a member comes and goes or when they come
- 20:27back and there's something lacking. How important and good is it to have found
- 20:33something like that, because let's not lie. You guys have written a lot
- 20:37of fucking albums together. It's a rarity, you know, like it's it's
- 20:40fucking it's hard, and it's it's a good thing. Like you know,
- 20:45I think all the bands I've been in, like since, you know,
- 20:48since being a fucking teenager, there's always been issues with people. And I'm
- 20:56not even saying that in an overly negative way. I'm just saying it that
- 21:00really different and people have different goals and also people change over time, so
- 21:04none of it is like none of my experiences are necessarily negative with people or
- 21:11in bands. It's just just the way there is. You know, people,
- 21:14people change, and people have got different sort of goals and aims and
- 21:18ship. So you know, for us who are all you know, the
- 21:22same sort of age, everyone's like a fucking grown up with a mortgage and
- 21:27all that sort of stuff. So I think given where we all are in
- 21:33life and the fact that we all just fucking love death metal and want to
- 21:37just make death metal. They're just the fact that we can. We're all
- 21:44in the same mindset and wanting to do that and do it well and do
- 21:48some of the other things that go along with that, be at touring,
- 21:51playing shows, fucking you know, just all the other stuff that goes along.
- 21:56Just the fact that we're all somewhat on the same page and all in
- 22:00the right in the same direction. It's it's fucking great. You know,
- 22:03it's a real it's it's a rarity, you know. So it's it's very
- 22:07good. So so you can confidently write something and go, the guys are
- 22:12going to get this. I don't need to explain anything. It's just it's
- 22:17going to be magic from from from the first roof. Yeah, totally right.
- 22:23And there has been times because I'm thinking maybe more more with Anti Christ,
- 22:27because with the Antichrist Imperium, which means going to do you know,
- 22:32I obviously you've heard something like because like that band, it's a little bit
- 22:36more out there and it's a bit fucking it goes off on a tangent.
- 22:38I know that there's been times with that, for example, where Sam's like
- 22:41or I don't know if I don't know if this is I don't know what
- 22:45you're doing. I don't know if it's going to work. And I'll be
- 22:48like, trust me, I've got a fucking vision. I know where,
- 22:51I know it's going to happen. You know it's going to be cool,
- 22:52and you know, and in the end hopefully it has turned out well.
- 22:57But yeah, it gets and wells. It's just fucking death metal. And
- 23:03the three of us have been fucking playing death medal for a long time,
- 23:06so you know, whether it's good or not, whether people like it or
- 23:10not. We're fucking good at doing this thing that we do, and we're
- 23:14all pretty confident that it's going to be good for what it is. So
- 23:19I've got complete faith in the other two. You fucking do things properly,
- 23:22as I'm sure they've got faith in me to fucking write fucking nine brutal songs
- 23:26once a year or more. If they asked me to Dan you want to
- 23:32jim in here. What was the question again? It was like five minutes
- 23:37ago. It was just about about like finding you know, two or three
- 23:44or four like minded people that just get what you do and not having to
- 23:47explain yourself. You can just produce something artistically, you know, whether it
- 23:52be extreme metal or fucking you know, avant garde metal, and how good
- 23:57it is to be able to have that and have that trust and faith.
- 24:03It's pretty good. It probably because there's been like a good you know,
- 24:08there's a few decades now make music and you know, we've sort of like
- 24:14I think we did a lot of work together at kind of like the start
- 24:17of that, and there's been obviously a lot of work in this last decade
- 24:19or so now, but there's sort of like that break in the middle as
- 24:23well, where we've sort of you know, we've been with a bunch of
- 24:26other bands, and yeah, it is it is something to come It's something
- 24:32good to come back to because, as Matt's already explained, other bands like
- 24:37have there can be a wide variety of issues that you have to go through,
- 24:41and you know, one of them quite often is like you know,
- 24:45just the basic presenting ideas songs or ifs, lyrics or whatever, and like
- 24:48how the ownership thing sometimes crops up in bands and and that sort of stuff
- 24:56like as well as many other things. It's, yeah, and it's just
- 25:00good to be able to like straightforward get after it. I think. Yeah.
- 25:03What Matt also said just about that stage in our lives as well,
- 25:07like you know a lot of people when they hit the thirties or forties,
- 25:11like you know, that's the kids age, or it's the age where you're
- 25:15like, fuck, I really need to get my ship together. And just
- 25:18so many guys drop off the drop off the map or have to like look
- 25:23at their bands suddenly going this needs to be making money. This needs to
- 25:26be making money now, and all these different pressures and ideas start getting in
- 25:32their head and gring away at them. And I think we've touch wood.
- 25:37I think we've passed through that stage of our life. You know, someone
- 25:41asked me earlier today, like, you know, how do you go about
- 25:42arranging doing things like you know, tours for example, And we're you know,
- 25:48we've all got like at this stage, we've got the life now that
- 25:51supports that, we've got the partners that support that, We've you know,
- 25:56we've got our equipment, we've got our jobs, we know what we need
- 25:59to do. So yeah, there's very little standing in the way of when
- 26:03we decide to do things. And that's kind of by design, I think
- 26:07for all of us. Matt, can you pick a song from the new
- 26:10album for us and tell us why I've chose it and introduce it as well.
- 26:14Okay, what's what's the third one? Called bring to Me the Kill?
- 26:17Yeah, I'm going to choose that because when when we wrote the album,
- 26:21that felt like a weeker one, but it turned out fucking gruel and
- 26:26I quite like it, So we're going with that. There is aside sat
- 26:45in my bowl trying to drink my death kills my whole who up bed out
- 27:17that Google's who wrote out a game? Who stoo that stop? Oh yeah,
- 27:21I wos who foods right? I will go bo when I got right
- 27:25that who that guys got that guys wanted too to right in the ass tool
- 27:29to too cool to you do? How about a tis right as you d
- 27:36tie d do di spody walk outside that h body often love herself listen to
- 27:44what will now? They stay to love worry to me a cheer? Oh
- 28:36that's why usual that's my side, potry stud. That's bow ye eyes us
- 28:41three rights. I gonna grow word I got that screws may still DRIs got
- 28:48bails now I talk. That's go right to me that cow dogs, I
- 28:56said, lay out, I fus ye world. Obviously we don't hang out,
- 29:22but I would like to think of you guys as as metal mates.
- 29:26How has your life changed and made a difference to who you are? Sorry,
- 29:33the music that you create change who you are as people? Sam,
- 29:37you go first of all, I think about that. It's too intellectual for
- 29:40America. I remind you what the question is once I finish buck, how
- 29:45does it means we've created change? It's it's hard to imagine a life where
- 29:52it's not day in day making death metal or whether that's not a big part
- 29:59of it. So but throughout your like you know, family man time and
- 30:03it works time. Are you actually just contemplating being a fucking brutal death metal
- 30:10can't absolutely all the time? It pops in the head like a fair amount
- 30:18of time during the day, Like you know, it probably ties back to
- 30:22lyrics as well, Like you know, quite often when it comes to lyrics,
- 30:26I'm a magpie, like it's my day to day life and someone will
- 30:30say something out of context or whatever, and I'll just be going, oh,
- 30:34that makes good lyrics in a song, and it quickly gets scrolled down.
- 30:38So it's kind of the death metal part is still you know, always
- 30:44kind of constant, even if you're not like, don't have the time to
- 30:48just sit still and rehearse or riot or something because you, as you say,
- 30:52adult life's getting in a way. Shit, man, yeah I didn't.
- 30:56I didn't choose the death metal life. It chose me. Man.
- 31:03I'll tell you one thing that's probably changed with me is over the last the
- 31:08last few years, well, I guess the wear will sort of lifespans.
- 31:14So far, I've become probably more passionate about brutal music than I was prior
- 31:21to that, even though of course I've always liked things liked, you know,
- 31:25definitely on black metal. But now it's like, you know, like
- 31:30if I go to the gym then, in which I do most week,
- 31:33most Monday Friday, it's like, without fail, I'm listening to death metal
- 31:38and it fucking helps push, you know, and it's like it's it's just
- 31:44it's so ingrained in you know what I do now, and like just riding
- 31:48these riffs just it comes easy, and it's I think it's just in there,
- 31:53like it's it's in there to stay, just probably more so just through
- 31:59you know, what you've achieved as a band over the last few years,
- 32:02it's really sort of cemented yourself in with you know, my personality and my
- 32:07fucking spiritual being. I guess I don't know. I mean just before we
- 32:13gone to this interview, I was listening to Olders of Madness. Before that,
- 32:17I was into fucking Storm God's Unbound. Before that, I was listening
- 32:24to Lock Up, Nice, nice relaxing Sunday for me. Really, one
- 32:31of the big supports you did, you guys did, was Mayhem. You
- 32:35know what, what was the feedback that you got from you know, black
- 32:37metal Kings? Absolutely nothing. They didn't say a fucking word to us.
- 32:45Yeah, look, okay, I exagerated, I ecgerated slightly. Wholehammer was
- 32:51chatty necro a bit weird, stole a bottle of wine of mine? Mats
- 32:57mats all that coming? Or was it Attila interesting guy, weird, weird
- 33:06cat, but like genial enough. The rest of them, the guitarists,
- 33:10the crew by didn't speak to us. Yeah. One of the funny stories
- 33:17I talk about is on the very last night where we played Adelaide, Like,
- 33:22you know, I think we've done our show. We're in the dressing
- 33:24room. Some of them were out, like there's the piano sort of in
- 33:28the backstage area of the Adelaide venue and they were playing Van Helen. I
- 33:31think Jump sort of on the piano, and I think I jumped out of
- 33:35the dressing room at some point sort of half drunk and was like jump and
- 33:39they stopped what they're doing, got up, walked into the dressing room,
- 33:43closed the door, and rock stars. That's them, Yeah, their thing.
- 33:51But yeah, we definitely, we definitely didn't get any feedback. Yeah,
- 33:55I wouldn't class them as rock stars. I just classed them as a
- 34:00like weird. They're an enigma of the band. They're weird and that's why
- 34:07they're so fucking good. Yeah. Yeah, it was one of the things,
- 34:13one of the phrases. It sort of struck me when I was like
- 34:15watching them play and also just hang about is the real deal? Like you
- 34:22know, it's just as I say, like so many of them who were
- 34:24just like you know, they didn't come off stage but put their spectacles on
- 34:29and sort of like you know, do up their sweater and go back to
- 34:32being normal. They were kind of Yeah, yeah, they've been pretty pretty
- 34:40out there. Like Hellhammer didn't sleep for like I think two or three days
- 34:45of the like the tour. It was just up and go on like NonStop,
- 34:50like black metal Action Figure it dudes work fifty four fucking just jacked like
- 34:59a fuck and Mattel Doll like it's yeah, that's the man, like,
- 35:05Yeah, the gig was amazing. Yeah, Sam that you'll turned to pick
- 35:09a track from the album fuck me Okay Neander Hell it's because I reckon.
- 35:15This is the heaviest track on the album. The first half of it is
- 35:20is brisk, and then it completely goes absolutely fucking mental in the second half.
- 35:25And when the song closes out, it's so brutal and so fucking heavy
- 35:30that I need to sit down and just like take a few deep breaths.
- 35:32It's that's why I like it, enjoy. I want to be appe so
- 36:00we as my skinny fast un lay. I don't want to kill each other
- 36:05NSI ride that Enery five. We don't phone. We're gonna forget for the

- 38:16days, I can't kill us all the way by moving you will wiser us.
- 38:44Maybe we ho. It's not just a question of whether I'm not to
- 39:00use a veil. Simply is no other way. Hey, this is Matt
- 39:05from Whale Wolves. You're listening to another podcast with metal v on Heavy Mag.
- 39:09Got a nuts by two are coming up in October. Excitedly, Yeah,
- 39:15yeah, I'd be going to that I'd be going to that gig even
- 39:17if I wasn't playing it, So you know the idea of getting like to
- 39:22see it for three five times in a row across Australia, that fucking rules.
- 39:28I just yeah, we just need to speed our gig up so we
- 39:30can just like bang it out, get off and get ready to watch.
- 39:34So nine songs in twenty minutes, I'll damage style. Yeah, that's right
- 39:39up, everything in tempo a little bit so and get through all quicker.
- 39:45I can hear Dave in the distance in the US going no, no,
- 39:47No, Is there anything you'd actually want to touch on or talk about before
- 39:54we before we quit? First of all, I want to say congratulations on
- 39:58your album. Like I said, I can't say whether it's a growth or
- 40:04something new, but it's consistently Werewolves and amazing because you guys are a part
- 40:09of it, and you guys know how much I love what you do.
- 40:13So thank you, thank you man. Welcome Now i'd say, I'd say
- 40:16it's a clear regression from from the cave to the graves to be interesting.
- 40:25No, it's just like less pretense to being music and entertainment and just like
- 40:30it's more just cheer raw, unadulterated, like an unseasoned violence. Before it
- 40:37was like sort of putting on like the sparkly lights and a soundtrack and getting
- 40:42hit with the baseball bat. And it's just stripped back to the baseball bat
- 40:45now. So that's kind of how it strikes me. I wouldn't call that
- 40:49a regression model. I'll definitely call that a nice growth. Perhaps I'm a
- 40:54fine tuning of what we're sort of trying to do. It's a bit weird
- 40:59like me, Like for a while, I was, I wasn't sure entirely
- 41:04what I thought of the album, whether it was perhaps the production wasn't quite
- 41:08right, or maybe the songs weren't necessarily as good as some of the previous
- 41:14ones have been. But over the last sort of a few doubts, Well
- 41:17the last week or so that reviews have been coming in and people have been
- 41:21sort of talking to us about it and just messages and all that sort of
- 41:23ships, it seems to be getting like you know, like a really sort
- 41:28of positive response and everyone's into it. So yeah, it's good. It's
- 41:34been sort of overwhelming, and so that made you step back, Matt And
- 41:38and listen to the album differently to how you wrote it, to how people
- 41:46perceive it. I think what happens with me is when we're mixing it,
- 41:52I was just about going saying, listening to it and wondering whether it's right
- 41:55or whether it's good enough or whatever, and actually would just go with it.
- 42:00And I had quite a long time between hearing it again, and when
- 42:04I listened to it again, like you know, months later or whatever,
- 42:07it's like, okay, right, I get it now, it's it works.
- 42:09I think maybe you get to you get a bit immersed in something when
- 42:13you're doing it. And yeah, on this occasion I sort of had to
- 42:16rely on. It was Sam actually that said it's fucking great. It sounds
- 42:22it's good. It sounds brutal, it sounds like how it should sound.
- 42:23It sounds like death metal, so you know, sort of cool, put
- 42:29the trust there and all on the heart of yeah it's everyone else seems to
- 42:32get that same vibe as well, so yeah, it's good. Another successful
- 42:37album touched him for me, From From the Cave to the Grave, like
- 42:42was a pretty good album. When we did that one, there was we
- 42:45were kind of like joking around and I don't know, I don't know how
- 42:46we're going to beat this with this one, you know, I find myself
- 42:52repeating again, I don't know how we're going to beat this, but I
- 42:53do know like it's it's smashed the shit out of From the Cave to the
- 42:58Grave, and it reminds me a little bit like I think this will sound
- 43:02conceded as hell with this band, like we seem to go one pretty good
- 43:07album and then one absolute fucking mental case cracker of an album and we just
- 43:13alternate. So the first one, good one, What a Time to Be
- 43:15Alive like, is the one that everyone seems to talk about where it's just
- 43:20an absolute, you know, fucking violation. From the Cave to the Grave
- 43:25another good album with some six songs on it. And then this one,
- 43:30I think is us going absolutely fucking buck world again, and it's I like
- 43:37it. I think that's the mode we operate best at. Yeah. Again,
- 43:42I just don't know how we're going to do better than it, which
- 43:44is always a wonderful thing to think when you're trying to get ready to go
- 43:46into the studio. Now, Yes, yeah, lad, thank you so
- 43:53much for your time today. I'm going to get you in the mag next
- 43:58week. Matt, Thank you for joining it or short notice. Sam,
- 44:01thank you for you know, letting me procrassionate and being adult and have my
- 44:06time off. I want you, I want you each to pick a song
- 44:09from the new album and introduce it and tell us why you've chosen it,
- 44:15and we'll finish up. Sam, you go first. I knew you're gonna
- 44:20say that, guy, Damn you fucking hell. I'm just trying to remember
- 44:23what the song titles are. I knew nothing then and I know less now.
- 44:30That was gonna that was going to be the original album title, and
- 44:34then we changed around. I really like this one. It's got a bit
- 44:37of a different even though it's heavy as fuck, it's got a little bit
- 44:40of a different field to it. We do a few different things in there.
- 44:43It's normal, but that opening sort of marching stomp riff, it's it's
- 44:49perfect. It's it's such a violent, militaristic riff. And Dave is like,
- 44:53absolutely, you know on tempo for that one, and yeah, the
- 45:00swearing and abuses next little two. So I like it. May you Matt,
- 45:05you'll go, I'm gonna go for a brace for impact. Nice.
- 45:08Yeah, it's brutal, and then the volume and it goes out half way
- 45:13through it gets twice as brutal. So we'll go with that to the last.
