- 0:07Speaker 1: This podcast.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 2: conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer Newarth, and today
- 0:16Speaker 2: we're joined by Steven Rinella, Jannis Putellis, Brody Henderson, Max Barta,
- 0:21Speaker 2: Phil of Retski, Brady Davis, and Matt McCormick. This is
- 0:25Speaker 2: a ten round quiz show with questions for Meat Eater's
- 0:28Speaker 2: four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation and cooking, and
- 0:31Speaker 2: there is a prize. Meat Eater will donate five hundred
- 0:33Speaker 2: dollars to the conservation organization of the winners, choosing Phil, Brady, Matt.
- 0:38Speaker 2: This is your first time playing Meat Eater Trivia. How
- 0:40Speaker 2: do you feel about your chances?
- 0:42Speaker 1: Pretty high?
- 0:43Speaker 2: Stuck you on this?
- 0:45Speaker 3: Yeah, feeling good.
- 0:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I was just planning where to donate the money to.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Okay, this is confidence, yeah, from our guests.
- 0:54Speaker 4: Yeah, we might get smoked, but you have to come
- 0:56Speaker 4: in hot man.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Okay.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Now, I heard some whispers before the show that you
- 1:00Speaker 2: hope it's not a duck question for your bone. I'm
- 1:02Speaker 2: sorry to say, but your bone is a duck question today.
- 1:05Speaker 2: I didn't know that psychology we preferred goose over here,
- 1:09Speaker 2: so duck questions we do into you guys, they all
- 1:13Speaker 2: get the same bone, right, they all get the same bone.
- 1:15Speaker 4: That's right.
- 1:16Speaker 2: I think that's fair.
- 1:17Speaker 4: I think three would be three bone.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah yeah yeah.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Now for the week. This week, we're looking at a
- 1:24Speaker 2: battle of the meat eater mustaches. Here's how Cal, Seth, Mark,
- 1:28Speaker 2: and Clay stack up against each other in our four verticals.
- 1:32Speaker 2: In the hunting category, the best performing mustache is Cal,
- 1:35Speaker 2: who gets fifty two percent of questions right. The worst
- 1:38Speaker 2: performing mustache is Clay, who gets forty five percent of
- 1:41Speaker 2: questions right. In the fishing category, the best performing mustache
- 1:45Speaker 2: is Cal again, who gets fifty five percent of questions right.
- 1:49Speaker 2: The worst performing mustache is Clay again, who gets thirty
- 1:53Speaker 2: eight percent of questions right. In the conservation category, the
- 1:57Speaker 2: best performing mustache is Cal again. You think you'd win, though,
- 2:01Speaker 2: who gets fifty five percent of questions right. The worst
- 2:04Speaker 2: performing mustache is Seth, who gets forty nine percent of
- 2:08Speaker 2: questions right. And in the cooking category, the best performing
- 2:12Speaker 2: mustache is Cal again, who gets sixty one percent of
- 2:15Speaker 2: questions right. The worst performing mustache is Mark, who gets
- 2:18Speaker 2: twenty percent of questions right. That gives CALLI clean sweep
- 2:22Speaker 2: across the board, making him the King Mustache.
- 2:25Speaker 5: You just have a mustache episode and let him duke
- 2:28Speaker 5: it out.
- 2:28Speaker 2: You know, we have a high the amount of mustaches
- 2:32Speaker 2: per capita in this office. It's up there.
- 2:34Speaker 5: I'll grow this.
- 2:35Speaker 2: Bad boy obviously I've been.
- 2:38Speaker 1: For the last two weeks.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Huh yeah, I can see that, Yanni. Could you get
- 2:42Speaker 2: a mustache for us too? I know, sir, have you
- 2:44Speaker 2: ever had a mustache in your life?
- 2:47Speaker 6: Kind of during COVID there, I'll let everybody else answer that,
- 2:50Speaker 6: you know, I just let it go there for however
- 2:53Speaker 6: many months it was. Steve didn't like it because I said,
- 2:55Speaker 6: he said, I looked like a convict buddy at his
- 2:58Speaker 6: Isn't that right?
- 2:59Speaker 2: You had a I'm dick buddy, you had there was
- 3:04Speaker 2: one specific convict buddy or he just looked.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Like so I can tell I can't remember this.
- 3:09Speaker 2: There we go, Yanni, and then you could join the
- 3:11Speaker 2: mustache episode. This is our zero percenter question the week,
- 3:15Speaker 2: which says how much knowledge players have retained from previous games.
- 3:17Speaker 2: This question was from episode three eighty one. The topic
- 3:20Speaker 2: was hunting, and nobody got it right. This logger, which
- 3:23Speaker 2: calls itself the official beer of the American Sportsman usually
- 3:27Speaker 2: comes in red cans that feature wildlife on them. Who
- 3:30Speaker 2: knows the answer, nobody? How about this guest? Do you
- 3:38Speaker 2: have any guests? It's red official beer the American sports
- 3:47Speaker 2: old style again, wrong again. I'll tell you. The incorrect
- 3:51Speaker 2: answers given were old Milwaukee, Hams, ray Neer, and Budweiser,
- 3:55Speaker 2: which I think Steve said all those except the correct answer,
- 3:59Speaker 2: if we give up, was Schmidt.
- 4:04Speaker 5: I tell you a quick funny story about old Milwaukee.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Well, okay, I'm gonna hold on. Last time you guys call.
- 4:11Speaker 2: When we had this question, you say, can I tell
- 4:12Speaker 2: you a quick funny story about old Mud? And then
- 4:15Speaker 2: you told the story about a poem? You told this story?
- 4:21Speaker 2: Do you want to tell it again? Schmidt? Schmidt was
- 4:27Speaker 2: a correct answer. Nobody got it the second time around.
- 4:30Speaker 2: We have some housekeeping and get to In a previous
- 4:32Speaker 2: game of trivia, when talking about grocery stores, I pronounced
- 4:34Speaker 2: the Texas grocery chain as HEB, which was apparently wrong.
- 4:39Speaker 2: About twenty Texans wrote in to let me know that
- 4:41Speaker 2: the local way to say it is by just saying
- 4:44Speaker 2: each letter individually, making that H E B instead of HEB. Now,
- 4:48Speaker 2: these proud Texans also wanted to let me know that
- 4:51Speaker 2: HB is a proud supporter of conservation. They've contributed more
- 4:55Speaker 2: than thirteen million dollars to conservation projects that have done
- 4:58Speaker 2: things like colstal cleanups and black bear restoration. Most recently,
- 5:02Speaker 2: h TV made a one million dollar donation to the
- 5:05Speaker 2: Texas State Parks through the Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation.
- 5:09Speaker 2: The company said that since only a fraction of the
- 5:12Speaker 2: state is public land, they want to make sure those
- 5:14Speaker 2: resources are protected for generations to come. That's right now.
- 5:25Speaker 2: The Shelby Index for today's round is a four, so
- 5:28Speaker 2: our winner should get eight correct answers. And with that
- 5:31Speaker 2: we're onto the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look,
- 5:37Speaker 2: I need to know what I stand and win everything.
- 5:41Speaker 3: How's that?
- 5:42Speaker 4: Just tend to win everything?
- 5:50Speaker 2: Demon suckers? Now, maybe the first time ever we have
- 5:55Speaker 2: an audience outside of the room. Who can tell me
- 5:57Speaker 2: who's watching out here?
- 5:58Speaker 3: Can't she come in? Sure?
- 6:00Speaker 2: I mean, does she want to? Who is it? First
- 6:02Speaker 2: of all? More bassive thing? Come in? He shook his head.
- 6:08Speaker 7: No.
- 6:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:10Speaker 2: One of my kids, the younger one, Evelyn, is a
- 6:13Speaker 2: jibber jabber. So hear her, she'd probably be answering all
- 6:17Speaker 2: the questions.
- 6:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Question one, the topic is cooking, and as always, this
- 6:22Speaker 2: is multiple choice. Which of these peppers is hottest? Is
- 6:26Speaker 2: it banana, Chipotle, habanero, or Halipino? Which of these peppers
- 6:34Speaker 2: is hottest? The room is very copy right down you
- 6:39Speaker 2: think it is no ABCD. Which of these peppers is
- 6:42Speaker 2: hottest Banana, Chipotle, habanero or Halipino. The room is very confident. Steve,
- 6:50Speaker 2: you just know this one.
- 6:52Speaker 3: I think.
- 6:52Speaker 2: So. Do you have some peppers in the garden this year?
- 6:56Speaker 2: Any of these four?
- 6:58Speaker 3: Does?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Everybody have an answer?
- 6:59Speaker 5: Weren't hot though?
- 7:00Speaker 3: Okay?
- 7:01Speaker 5: Which I like?
- 7:02Speaker 2: Okay, everybody ready, go ahead and just feel your answers.
- 7:06Speaker 2: We have Phil saying halipino, Brady saying bannaro. It's habanaro.
- 7:11Speaker 2: But I put a joint. Okay, everyone says.
- 7:15Speaker 4: Tell you that.
- 7:16Speaker 2: Let's see, we'll give it.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Literally looks like because that's some that's what you're playing
- 7:22Speaker 5: with fire.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Yeah, right out of the game.
- 7:25Speaker 5: I did it correct. That's how you spell it in
- 7:27Speaker 5: al Paso.
- 7:28Speaker 2: Oh, we'll take your word for it. The correct answer
- 7:31Speaker 2: is have a narrow Every single player got it. Banana
- 7:35Speaker 2: peppers are a three hundred on the Scoville heat unit chart.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Halipinos and Chipotle's are a five thousand, and Havebenaro's are
- 7:42Speaker 2: a two hundred thousand. Havebnaros are one of the hottest
- 7:45Speaker 2: common peppers that you can find at almost any grocery store.
- 7:48Speaker 8: I'm playing a one halopeno this year. He must have
- 7:50Speaker 8: thrown thirty halopenos. They were good, perfect heat too, Like
- 7:54Speaker 8: you just eat them, throw them on a grill. Then't
- 7:56Speaker 8: have to be all paranoid about the seeds or anything,
- 7:58Speaker 8: you know.
- 7:59Speaker 2: Question two, the topic is public lands. This next great
- 8:02Speaker 2: question comes to us via Andrew Dideo What state is
- 8:06Speaker 2: home to the Cat's Skill Mountains? Less confident this time
- 8:12Speaker 2: around About half of our players think they have the
- 8:15Speaker 2: correct answer. Again, the topic is public lands? What state
- 8:20Speaker 2: is home to the Cat's Skill Mountains? Steve, you have
- 8:27Speaker 2: this one right? Ye?
- 8:29Speaker 4: Have you been there?
- 8:30Speaker 2: Or is that too much information? If you tell us?
- 8:32Speaker 5: I'm not a chat in mood?
- 8:34Speaker 2: Spencer Okay, Brody also thinks he has and Yanni, Max,
- 8:39Speaker 2: have you come up with an answer yet? Max is
- 8:42Speaker 2: not as confident. What state is home to the Catskill Mountains?
- 8:49Speaker 2: I think we're waiting on Brady and Max might be.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Waiting for a long time.
- 8:53Speaker 4: Here.
- 8:55Speaker 5: I'll pick.
- 8:58Speaker 9: Iowa.
- 9:00Speaker 2: Why Okay, Max, we are now waiting on you. You
- 9:05Speaker 2: need to tell us where the Catskills.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Is.
- 9:09Speaker 2: Everybody ready, Max, No, We're good. Go ahead and reveal
- 9:14Speaker 2: your answers. We have doctor Phil saying Washington, Brady saying Tennessee,
- 9:19Speaker 2: Matt saying Arizona, Brody sang New York, Max saying Rhode Island. Yo,
- 9:23Speaker 2: Honest saying New York, Steve saying New York. The correct
- 9:27Speaker 2: answer is New York. A few folks got it.
- 9:30Speaker 1: That's a funny way to spill Hawaii.
- 9:34Speaker 2: The cat Skills are found in southeastern New York and
- 9:38Speaker 2: are part of the Appalachian Plateau. The area is known
- 9:41Speaker 2: for fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, and skiing. It's also famous
- 9:45Speaker 2: for its impact on the American comedy scene. Rodney Dangerfield,
- 9:49Speaker 2: Jackie Mason, Don Rickles, and Moore all got their start
- 9:52Speaker 2: by performing at resorts in the Catskills.
- 9:56Speaker 9: Southeastern New York. I thought it was up north.
- 10:01Speaker 2: Maybe that's a future correction. Question three. The topic is biology.
- 10:06Speaker 2: Drake wood ducks, Drake canvas back, and Drake cinnamon teal
- 10:10Speaker 2: all have this eye color. The room is very confident,
- 10:16Speaker 2: maybe except for Yanni. Our duck hunters and duck biologists
- 10:22Speaker 2: think they have it right.
- 10:24Speaker 6: This is not the first duck eye color question that
- 10:26Speaker 6: we've had on this show, is it?
- 10:28Speaker 2: Drake wood ducks, Drake canvas back, and Drake cinnamon teal
- 10:31Speaker 2: all have this eye color.
- 10:34Speaker 1: You're talking about the main eye color?
- 10:35Speaker 3: Right?
- 10:36Speaker 2: What would be the alternative to this question?
- 10:39Speaker 6: Just just go Why can't you respond to just go with.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Your gut here secondary lens?
- 10:52Speaker 6: Maybe I was just trying to confuse the answer.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Pat.
- 10:55Speaker 2: We've had a question related eye color in birds before.
- 10:59Speaker 2: That's right, Does everybody have an answer? Room looks confident.
- 11:04Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have doctor Phil
- 11:06Speaker 2: sang red, Brady, red Max saying red, Brody saying yellow,
- 11:10Speaker 2: crossed out, red Max says red, Gianna says yellow, Steve
- 11:13Speaker 2: says yellow. The correct, actual spell correct answer is red.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Our duck hunters and.
- 11:24Speaker 10: They they all got the It's believed that the purple
- 11:33Speaker 10: of the red eyes is to aid their vision in
- 11:36Speaker 10: dark conditions.
- 11:37Speaker 2: The red eye color is more common in birds that
- 11:39Speaker 2: dive underwater. Some other birds with red eyes are common ludes,
- 11:43Speaker 2: common loons, western grebes, and black crowned herons.
- 11:47Speaker 5: Now, if you just said a loon out of got it.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Right, you'd have known that one. Yeah, okay, is that
- 11:53Speaker 2: would have thrown you off?
- 11:54Speaker 8: No, I would have gotten I could just picture his
- 11:56Speaker 8: red bat figure of a wood duck.
- 11:59Speaker 5: I'm like, dude, I don't know.
- 12:00Speaker 2: You can tell me any color? And would duck be like, yeah,
- 12:02Speaker 2: I could see that?
- 12:03Speaker 3: Yeah? Was that?
- 12:04Speaker 10: Uh?
- 12:05Speaker 2: Do you know most of the eye colors for ducks
- 12:07Speaker 2: are duck hunters and duck biologists? You think you do.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I don't shoot them until I see the eyes.
- 12:13Speaker 3: It's good.
- 12:13Speaker 5: Wait to see the yellow, the reds of his eyes.
- 12:17Speaker 3: That's good.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Question four. The topic is hunting. This next great question
- 12:22Speaker 2: comes to you is via Matt h. This is a
- 12:25Speaker 2: visual question. If you want to see what the room
- 12:27Speaker 2: is seeing, then watch this episode on Meat Eater's YouTube
- 12:30Speaker 2: channel or check out my latest post on Instagram. The
- 12:34Speaker 2: room is looking at three pictures of white tails. They
- 12:38Speaker 2: need to tell me what cartoon character inspired the name
- 12:42Speaker 2: for the disease that these deer have.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Oh my god, there.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Are three pictures, three different white tails that the room
- 12:53Speaker 2: is looking at. They need to tell me what cartoon
- 12:56Speaker 2: character inspired the name for the disease that these deer have.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Steve with the quickest answer.
- 13:02Speaker 3: I don't the right answer.
- 13:03Speaker 5: Okay, that's the problem.
- 13:05Speaker 2: Just a guess.
- 13:06Speaker 5: I had a perfect game going for three.
- 13:09Speaker 2: This is question for tell me what cartoon character inspired
- 13:13Speaker 2: the name for the disease that these deer have. You
- 13:16Speaker 2: can see these photos on Instagram at Spencer Newhart or
- 13:20Speaker 2: on meat Eater's YouTube channel. So your answer so many
- 13:26Speaker 2: cartoon characters. Answer knows it should be a cartoon character.
- 13:32Speaker 2: I think we're waiting on Brody.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Write down the right answer and then cross it out.
- 13:40Speaker 2: Joanny, how do you feel about your answer?
- 13:43Speaker 6: Just a guess.
- 13:46Speaker 2: It's everybody ready?
- 13:48Speaker 1: Does anyone know?
- 13:50Speaker 2: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Doctor Phil saying Rudolph
- 13:54Speaker 2: Brady saying bow Winkle, Matt saying Bowwinkle, Brody saying Dumbo,
- 14:00Speaker 2: Max saying Rudolph Giannis saying Bullwinkle. Steve saying Bullwinkle.
- 14:05Speaker 5: It's bullwinkle.
- 14:07Speaker 2: We have a correct answer in the room. It's Bullwinkle. Ye,
- 14:11Speaker 2: folks got it right?
- 14:13Speaker 9: Now?
- 14:13Speaker 3: Were you?
- 14:14Speaker 8: Are you accepting where he wrote because he didn't write that.
- 14:17Speaker 3: By winkle bullwinkle.
- 14:21Speaker 4: Like Rocky and bowinkle.
- 14:23Speaker 5: How I've heard it pronounces I met Bullwinkle.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Disease is named after the deer's moose like snout that
- 14:36Speaker 2: resembles bullwinkleed J moose. That's why we need to accept
- 14:40Speaker 2: his answer, Steve, because his full name is bullwinkled J moose,
- 14:43Speaker 2: which nobody can great.
- 14:45Speaker 4: That was my that was my retort.
- 14:46Speaker 2: This is one of the most mysterious diseases in all
- 14:50Speaker 2: of nature. According to the National Deer Association, there were
- 14:53Speaker 2: no reported cases of bullwinkled deer until two thousand and five.
- 14:58Speaker 2: One study looked at ten deer with the affliction and
- 15:01Speaker 2: found no known cause for the inflamed nos Biologists believe
- 15:05Speaker 2: it's not fatal for deer, and their best guess is
- 15:08Speaker 2: that it's caused by a rare bacteria. Our listener who
- 15:11Speaker 2: wrote in with this question actually got a bullwinkled deer
- 15:13Speaker 2: on his trail. Camera play the video Phil Funny, and
- 15:20Speaker 2: our listener is trying to kill this deer as I
- 15:23Speaker 2: was emailing with him. He was on stand hoping this
- 15:26Speaker 2: buck would walk by. First reported case two thousand and five.
- 15:32Speaker 5: I don't know if I'd find that buck appetizing.
- 15:36Speaker 2: I've seen it.
- 15:37Speaker 4: I'd have questions.
- 15:38Speaker 2: Folks have wrote about maybe you should need them, just
- 15:40Speaker 2: because of the uncertainty of what causes this question. Five,
- 15:44Speaker 2: the topic is fishing. The North Dakota Game and Fish
- 15:48Speaker 2: describes these bones found in pike as quote a major annoyance.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Brody and Steve, with quick answers, Max and Yanni now
- 15:59Speaker 2: joining them, are duck hunters, not as confident. They have
- 16:02Speaker 2: yet to put marker to board. Here is the question.
- 16:06Speaker 2: The North Dakota Game and Fish describes these bones found
- 16:10Speaker 2: in pike as quote a major annoyance.
- 16:13Speaker 9: That's bad press for pike man.
- 16:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think they should.
- 16:19Speaker 2: We can talk about it more after this whole side
- 16:23Speaker 2: of the table thinks they have it right.
- 16:26Speaker 3: How do you know that?
- 16:27Speaker 2: Because I saw how excited you were coming up with
- 16:30Speaker 2: your answers.
- 16:34Speaker 9: I got a lot of pike in my freezer right now.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Phil and Matt, do we have an answer? There's the
- 16:40Speaker 2: question one more time. The North Dakota Game and Fish
- 16:42Speaker 2: describes these bones found in pike as quote a major annoyance.
- 16:45Speaker 2: Is everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers? We
- 16:49Speaker 2: have doctor Phil saying ridge bones, Brady's saying feather, Matt
- 16:54Speaker 2: saying rib Brody, Max, Jannis, and Steve all saying why bones.
- 17:00Speaker 2: They got it. The correct answer is why bones. Now,
- 17:03Speaker 2: when they had this quote, they were actually explaining how
- 17:06Speaker 2: to remove the y bones, so they were trying to
- 17:09Speaker 2: change the pr around northern pike.
- 17:12Speaker 1: They're not wrong, though they are annoying.
- 17:13Speaker 2: They are annoying. Why bones are also found in musky,
- 17:16Speaker 2: pickerel and all species of carp but it's unknown what
- 17:20Speaker 2: their function is. Why bones can be dissolved through the
- 17:23Speaker 2: process of pickling, but you'll have to manually remove them
- 17:27Speaker 2: for frying or grilling. My favorite way to do it
- 17:30Speaker 2: is the five fil a method, which you can find
- 17:32Speaker 2: on you.
- 17:33Speaker 5: Do you like the five fla method?
- 17:34Speaker 2: What do you do?
- 17:35Speaker 3: I'll tell you what I started doing. I pickle them.
- 17:38Speaker 3: And here's a hot tip.
- 17:40Speaker 5: I'll call it a correction.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Okay, you take.
- 17:43Speaker 5: Those pike flaves, throw them in a food processor.
- 17:47Speaker 2: I'm just gonna make fish cakes. Huh.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Then raw put them in raw.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Okay.
- 17:53Speaker 8: And let's say you got a couple pounds of pike,
- 17:55Speaker 8: you food process, put some egg in there, put some
- 17:58Speaker 8: other stuff that's good to eat. In there, red hot whatever.
- 18:01Speaker 8: Put some bread crumb in there. Sure make a patty.
- 18:03Speaker 8: Then you take that paddy and you roll that paddy
- 18:07Speaker 8: and panco fry that gently.
- 18:11Speaker 2: But if your hard is set, fry pan fry kid
- 18:16Speaker 2: invended that. Okay, good called.
- 18:22Speaker 5: Called sucker cakes with Pike Fell.
- 18:24Speaker 2: We are halfway through the game of trivia. Give us
- 18:27Speaker 2: a scoreboard update.
- 18:28Speaker 7: That's pretty good game. You've only got a two point
- 18:30Speaker 7: spread going. We've got Phil with two points, Matt, Max,
- 18:34Speaker 7: Brady and Brody. I'll have three points apiece and in
- 18:37Speaker 7: first place all tied up. I think, I would say
- 18:39Speaker 7: are meat eaters Rocky and bowl Winkle, Steven Giannis. They've
- 18:42Speaker 7: got four points apiece.
- 18:43Speaker 2: Can you expand on that film?
- 18:45Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 18:45Speaker 7: Out of your neck and neck, you know, I think
- 18:47Speaker 7: for the safe the sake of my job, I'm not
- 18:49Speaker 7: going to decide who's who.
- 18:50Speaker 6: You guys can do that.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Question six. The topic is natural history. This is our
- 19:05Speaker 2: listener question of the Week, which was won by Nick
- 19:08Speaker 2: Dobrick for sending this great question. Nick is going to
- 19:10Speaker 2: get a book signed by Steve. If you want a
- 19:13Speaker 2: chance to win our listener Question of the Week, then
- 19:14Speaker 2: send your question to Trivia at the meadeater dot com.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I can't think of a free trivia game because we
- 19:19Speaker 2: don't have them in the office yet. Coming soon though,
- 19:22Speaker 2: hopefully in about a month. When I read that part
- 19:25Speaker 2: of the game show, they're going to be getting a
- 19:27Speaker 2: board game signed by us instead of a book signed
- 19:30Speaker 2: by you. This legislation was passed in nineteen oh six
- 19:35Speaker 2: as a response to the theft of artifacts on federal lands. Again,
- 19:42Speaker 2: the topic is natural history. This legislation was passed in
- 19:46Speaker 2: nineteen oh six as a response to the theft of artifacts
- 19:50Speaker 2: on federal lands. Steve is the only one to come
- 19:53Speaker 2: up with an answer, yet Brody and Matt are now
- 19:57Speaker 2: joining him. This legislation was passed in nineteen oh six
- 20:03Speaker 2: as a response to the theft of artifacts on federal land? Steve,
- 20:07Speaker 2: how do you feel about your answer?
- 20:08Speaker 5: Sixty forty in favor?
- 20:12Speaker 2: Yanni? Are you right there with him? This legislation was
- 20:18Speaker 2: passed in nineteen oh six is a response to the theft
- 20:20Speaker 2: of artifacts on federal lands. Now, I never watched Rocky
- 20:24Speaker 2: and Bowlhenkle. I assume it was an older cartoon. Very funny,
- 20:26Speaker 2: did you guys watch that?
- 20:27Speaker 3: Was Russians in.
- 20:28Speaker 2: Its Natasha all the bad guys are Russians.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Well relative Boris was he the other one?
- 20:39Speaker 2: So that was relevant When you were kids watching cartoons,
- 20:41Speaker 2: it might have.
- 20:42Speaker 6: Been old I was a kid, were a kid.
- 20:46Speaker 5: But you didn't really have a sense of that at
- 20:48Speaker 5: the time. It was you like if you sat down,
- 20:51Speaker 5: you know, if you're like.
- 20:52Speaker 8: Folks weren't home and you were able to watch a
- 20:53Speaker 8: little tube, you know, after school, it'd be.
- 20:57Speaker 5: It could just be anything, could be that. It'd be
- 20:59Speaker 5: like Welcome Back Carter. You didn't have any sense.
- 21:02Speaker 6: Of what was.
- 21:07Speaker 8: But you wouldn't know that that was not a show
- 21:10Speaker 8: you put on like USA Network or whatever.
- 21:13Speaker 3: You just watch TV.
- 21:15Speaker 8: It's like there's no sense like what's new, what's old,
- 21:17Speaker 8: what's coming, what's going?
- 21:19Speaker 2: Does everybody have an answer for question six? Go ahead
- 21:24Speaker 2: and your answers, with Phil saying Native Bill Act, Brady
- 21:30Speaker 2: saying no idea, Matt saying Arrowhead Act, Brody saying Antiquities
- 21:35Speaker 2: Protection Act, Max without an answer, Giannis saying Antiquities Act,
- 21:39Speaker 2: Steve saying Antiquities Act. The correct answer is the Antiquities Act.
- 21:45Speaker 2: Should we give it to Brody?
- 21:46Speaker 3: What right?
- 21:47Speaker 2: He wrote? He had an extra word protection No I
- 21:53Speaker 2: think he gets it right. We're gonna give it to Brody.
- 21:56Speaker 6: Yeah, because the other day I can believe it when
- 21:58Speaker 6: you gave me I wrote down like.
- 22:03Speaker 9: Answer.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Had a real problem with that, saying you could have
- 22:09Speaker 2: been referring to many different things with that answer. The
- 22:13Speaker 2: correct answer, though, was Antiquities Act. This monumental Act was
- 22:18Speaker 2: the first US law to provide legal protection of cultural
- 22:21Speaker 2: resources on federal lands. It scared off most thieves, but
- 22:25Speaker 2: it was determined that the Act was too vague, so
- 22:28Speaker 2: in nineteen seventy nine, the Archaeological Resources Protection Act was passed.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Before that, some judges ruled that the Antiquities Act was
- 22:37Speaker 2: unenforceable because of ambiguous language. Question seven. The topic is cooking.
- 22:43Speaker 2: This is the largest spice company in the world which
- 22:47Speaker 2: owns brands like Lauries and Old Bay. Topic is cooking.
- 22:55Speaker 2: This is the largest spice company in the world which
- 22:59Speaker 2: owns brand brands like Larry's and Old Bay.
- 23:03Speaker 5: I know what.
- 23:06Speaker 2: Matt and Max have an answer. Brody is joining them. Brady,
- 23:12Speaker 2: Doctor Noah not come up with anything quite yet. This
- 23:19Speaker 2: is the largest spice company in the world which owns
- 23:21Speaker 2: brands like Lari's and Old Bay. Steve, do we have
- 23:25Speaker 2: any Laries or Old Bay in the cabinet right now?
- 23:31Speaker 8: I mean we might, if I mean, if we don't,
- 23:33Speaker 8: it's not because I don't like it.
- 23:35Speaker 6: I ued some Lur's season salt on some potato wedges.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Just is that the preferred pronunciation?
- 23:41Speaker 1: Low Re's you know.
- 23:44Speaker 3: What I'm in do lately.
- 23:45Speaker 8: This is stuff my daughter got all fired up about
- 23:48Speaker 8: at the neighbor's house and I bought some.
- 23:50Speaker 1: It's like slappyr mama.
- 23:52Speaker 5: Oh that stuff is great.
- 23:56Speaker 2: You gotta do better than this, Steve. If you want
- 23:57Speaker 2: to check time, does everybody have an answer? Go ahead
- 24:04Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. We have doctor Phil saying Lauri's
- 24:08Speaker 2: Brady saying Tobisco, Matt saying wrote his own last name,
- 24:11Speaker 2: saying McCormick, Brody saying Penzis Max saying McCormick. Yan Is
- 24:15Speaker 2: saying McCormick. Steve saying McCormick, McCormick. Okay, there's some creative
- 24:21Speaker 2: letters in there. The correct answer is McCormick.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Well, how do you spell it?
- 24:26Speaker 2: That was a bone for I just couldn't. Just kind
- 24:29Speaker 2: of sloppy here, and that's all I believe you. I
- 24:31Speaker 2: believe you. The company was started in a Baltimore basement
- 24:35Speaker 2: in eighteen eighty nine. As they've grown, so has their portfolio.
- 24:39Speaker 2: They purchased Old Bay in nineteen ninety, Laurie's in two
- 24:43Speaker 2: thousand and eight, and Frank's Red Hot in twenty seventeen.
- 24:47Speaker 2: They recommend replacing ground spices every two to three years
- 24:51Speaker 2: and whole spices every three to four years.
- 24:53Speaker 5: See how Brody wrote Penzys was a very good guess.
- 24:56Speaker 3: It's a great company.
- 24:57Speaker 9: I love how Steve focuses on people beating that normally
- 25:02Speaker 9: beat him.
- 25:02Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a great company. It's a great online experience. Sage.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:07Speaker 2: Yeah, Now I wrote that question before I knew it's
- 25:09Speaker 2: more a.
- 25:09Speaker 5: Premium it's a more premium brand.
- 25:12Speaker 2: We've now had multiple episodes. Steve, you had your archery
- 25:14Speaker 2: question where the answer was one of our player's last names,
- 25:18Speaker 2: and we just had it happen again. What a coincidence.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Question eight. The topic is Gear. This next great question
- 25:25Speaker 2: comes to us via Steve Corson. These different tools with
- 25:29Speaker 2: the same name are used to remove bark from logs
- 25:33Speaker 2: and check ice for thickness. The topic is Gear. This
- 25:39Speaker 2: is question eight. We will get a scoreboard update from
- 25:42Speaker 2: fill the engineer after this. These different tools with the
- 25:46Speaker 2: same name are used to remove bark from logs and
- 25:49Speaker 2: check ice for thickness. Steve and Brody are confident, Max.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Do you have this one right as well?
- 25:56Speaker 1: I think so when I'm second guessing myself.
- 25:59Speaker 3: Yeah, I got no problem right now.
- 26:06Speaker 2: Our ducky guests have yet to come up with an answer.
- 26:10Speaker 2: These different tools with the same name, are you used
- 26:12Speaker 2: to remove bark from logs and check ice for thickness?
- 26:16Speaker 3: Do you know I used to peel logs?
- 26:18Speaker 2: I did not, so you know you know both of
- 26:21Speaker 2: these tools.
- 26:23Speaker 9: Let's not cut the chip chat out?
- 26:28Speaker 2: Got okay?
- 26:32Speaker 3: That's uh.
- 26:32Speaker 2: That's like the exact opposite of getting paid by the hour.
- 26:36Speaker 2: There's no hours, I know. That's what I'm saying.
- 26:38Speaker 3: Oh yeah, when you were in.
- 26:39Speaker 8: You just it's like you just wrote down how many
- 26:42Speaker 8: you peeled every week?
- 26:43Speaker 2: There you go.
- 26:44Speaker 3: No one kept track of you.
- 26:45Speaker 6: Have you had harder physical work as an actual as.
- 26:50Speaker 3: A job, No, there's no.
- 26:54Speaker 6: I've known a couple of log peelers and they say
- 26:56Speaker 6: it's a crush man.
- 26:58Speaker 2: Everybody have an answer.
- 26:59Speaker 5: I moved on as quick as I could, and some.
- 27:01Speaker 2: Know go ahead and reveal your answers with doctor Phil
- 27:04Speaker 2: saying axe, Brady saying Hugh Matt without an answer, Brody
- 27:08Speaker 2: saying spud bar, Max saying spud bar, Yanna saying spud bar,
- 27:12Speaker 2: Steve saying spud. The correct answer is spud or spud bar.
- 27:18Speaker 2: A spud that's used for removing bark is a blade
- 27:20Speaker 2: with two handles at each end. They're commonly used by
- 27:23Speaker 2: land managers who place logs on trails and woodworkers who
- 27:26Speaker 2: want their lumber to dry. A spud bar that's used
- 27:29Speaker 2: for checking ice thickness is a long piece of steel
- 27:32Speaker 2: with a tapered and they're often used by anglers who
- 27:35Speaker 2: are fishing on questionable ice. Steve, what is your problem
- 27:39Speaker 2: with this question?
- 27:43Speaker 8: A lot of log peelers use a draw knife, So
- 27:45Speaker 8: I just I only had a problem if I got
- 27:46Speaker 8: it wrong.
- 27:46Speaker 9: Okay, Brody, that's where I was going. Okay, you know what,
- 27:52Speaker 9: duck guys probably used spud bars now and then to
- 27:54Speaker 9: check some ice.
- 27:55Speaker 3: I hope, so.
- 27:58Speaker 5: I avoid ice them. A lot of people call him
- 28:00Speaker 5: ice chisels.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Yeah, So do we have a spud bar in the
- 28:05Speaker 2: in your gait?
- 28:07Speaker 8: We do have the the the poll for the motion decoy.
- 28:12Speaker 4: And it's got a little spike on it. And if
- 28:14Speaker 4: things get questionable, if you.
- 28:18Speaker 8: Send them out with the Lucky Duck and they're out
- 28:20Speaker 8: there poking around like I.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Don't know, boys, we have two questions left.
- 28:26Speaker 5: Film the way that the Lucky Duck pushes it through that.
- 28:28Speaker 8: Well, because I'm the biggest guy, I like to start
- 28:31Speaker 8: with the smallest guy, Phil.
- 28:34Speaker 2: Give us a leader board update.
- 28:38Speaker 7: Sorry, guys, we got Phil with two points. Matt and
- 28:42Speaker 7: Brady have four and three respectively and are no longer
- 28:45Speaker 7: in the running for the win. But we've got Brody
- 28:47Speaker 7: and Max with five points apiece and tied up in
- 28:49Speaker 7: first place. Still are Giannis and Steve with seven questions.
- 28:54Speaker 9: Time to get seriously honest.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Question nine. The topic is fishing. This man who Jumped
- 29:00Speaker 2: the Shark went viral in twenty twenty one when he
- 29:03Speaker 2: tweeted out a picture of him holding a cutthroat trout.
- 29:09Speaker 2: The topic is fishing. Steve and Brody are the only
- 29:13Speaker 2: people to come up with an answer. Here's the question again.
- 29:16Speaker 2: This man who jumped the Shark when viral in twenty
- 29:20Speaker 2: twenty one when he tweeted out a picture of him
- 29:22Speaker 2: holding a cutthroat.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Trout, What can you explain jump the shark?
- 29:27Speaker 2: All the information you need is right there, not going
- 29:31Speaker 2: to help you anymore?
- 29:35Speaker 3: Oh god it.
- 29:38Speaker 2: Brody has declared that he got it. Steve looks tormented
- 29:42Speaker 2: over here. Oh Brody, do you have the correct answer?
- 29:50Speaker 9: Yeah?
- 29:52Speaker 2: This man who jumped the shark went viral in twenty
- 29:55Speaker 2: twenty one when he tweeted out a picture of him
- 29:57Speaker 2: holding it. Cut god trout. Steve thinks this is going
- 30:00Speaker 2: to separate him from Yannis. Yanni has yet to pick
- 30:03Speaker 2: up his whiteboard.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Who I mean tweets anymore?
- 30:09Speaker 2: In twenty two years ago, one.
- 30:12Speaker 8: Back now, he asked just how news organizations still can't
- 30:17Speaker 8: put in parentheses?
- 30:18Speaker 5: They're still like.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Formally known as Twitter.
- 30:20Speaker 5: Yeah, someone told me it's them.
- 30:22Speaker 8: It's news organizations expressing disapproval x forming known as Twitter.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Right.
- 30:27Speaker 7: The fact that the tweets are called tweets, it makes
- 30:29Speaker 7: it so hard for the brand to change. It's not
- 30:31Speaker 7: like Facebook, ex. Just I don't even know.
- 30:35Speaker 5: I have no idea, not threads.
- 30:37Speaker 2: I'm just thinking of famous people's let's let's go liefish, Yanni,
- 30:42Speaker 2: are you going to come up with an answer? Here
- 30:45Speaker 2: is one more time This man who Jumped the Shark
- 30:47Speaker 2: went viral in twenty twenty one when he tweeted out
- 30:50Speaker 2: a picture of him holding a cut trout. Yeah, I
- 30:54Speaker 2: prefer there's a hint for Yanni.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Yeah, well I got it bigger.
- 30:57Speaker 9: Well, don't say it, just hold.
- 31:03Speaker 5: Let's just wrap it up.
- 31:04Speaker 2: Let's go, Yanni. It's like you finished writing. Go ahead
- 31:08Speaker 2: and reveal your answers. We have Phil saying, Steve Brady
- 31:11Speaker 2: and Matt without an answer, Brewdy saying Henry Winkler crossed
- 31:15Speaker 2: out the fawns, Max saying, Cole Wetzel, Jannis without an answer,
- 31:20Speaker 2: Steve saying, Arthur Fonz.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Arthur jumped the show.
- 31:26Speaker 2: Henry Henry Winkler, He wrote down both correct and Arthur
- 31:31Speaker 2: is the.
- 31:32Speaker 8: Character who jumped the Henry Winkler is the actor who
- 31:35Speaker 8: held up the fishing.
- 31:37Speaker 3: Very girl.
- 31:39Speaker 2: Correct. Trying to get him on the show, and what
- 31:42Speaker 2: did he say? Well, one time it was let me
- 31:44Speaker 2: let me tell you this the correct answers, Henry Winkler.
- 31:46Speaker 8: Go ahead, Steve, try to get him on the show.
- 31:48Speaker 8: We're still trying to get on the show. One time
- 31:49Speaker 8: we try to get him on the show, and it
- 31:50Speaker 8: wound to be in that he was in Paris filming
- 31:53Speaker 8: what you just do movies. But then out came uh
- 31:58Speaker 8: French Dispatch, which is a phenomenal movie, and lo and behold,
- 32:01Speaker 8: there's Henry Winkler in it.
- 32:03Speaker 2: He was dunk in yet it wasn't even lying. Slight
- 32:06Speaker 2: Magazine actually wrote an article about Winkler's tweets and later
- 32:10Speaker 2: had to issue a correction saying that the fish he
- 32:13Speaker 2: was holding wasn't dead and that the Fawns was actually
- 32:16Speaker 2: practicing catch and release. The first time Winkler ever fished
- 32:19Speaker 2: was in the nineteen nineties when his lawyer invited him
- 32:23Speaker 2: on a trip to the Smith River in Montana. He
- 32:25Speaker 2: never tried fly fishing before that because he's dyslexic and
- 32:29Speaker 2: thought he wouldn't be coordinated enough to cast. Now he
- 32:32Speaker 2: posts dozens of fishing pictures on his Twitter every year.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Now the Jumping the Shark reference. Who would like to
- 32:38Speaker 2: explain that to Max? Maybe maybe fill the engineer, maybe
- 32:41Speaker 2: you could do it best.
- 32:44Speaker 7: After Happy Days, after Happy Days had been on for
- 32:47Speaker 7: a few years, you know, they were kind of running
- 32:49Speaker 7: out of storyline. So there was an episode where the
- 32:51Speaker 7: Fawns went jet skiing and he performs a stunt. There's
- 32:56Speaker 7: like he sees a shark going through the water and
- 32:58Speaker 7: then he jumps over it, so that when it people
- 33:00Speaker 7: use the termo that show jumped the shark, it means
- 33:03Speaker 7: that it's probably out of steam and should not like
- 33:06Speaker 7: a desperate attempt.
- 33:08Speaker 2: You know.
- 33:08Speaker 8: The two things I remember about that show too is
- 33:11Speaker 8: the character Pinky Tuscadero, and then the Malachi brothers who
- 33:16Speaker 8: in racing had a thing a maneuver called the Malachi crunch.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Was the fall racing?
- 33:24Speaker 5: No, they did.
- 33:24Speaker 8: They were in the crash up Derby, and the Malatchie
- 33:27Speaker 8: crunch would be they had basically like t bone in
- 33:29Speaker 8: your car from either side?
- 33:32Speaker 9: Was the fun where the Fawns and Richie Cunningham? Was
- 33:35Speaker 9: that the same or two different shows?
- 33:37Speaker 8: Or were they show Arthur Fawns Arelli rented like an
- 33:41Speaker 8: apartment above the garage of Richie of Richie Cunningham's family.
- 33:46Speaker 9: Okay, I couldn't remember if it's two different.
- 33:48Speaker 8: And when he was wrong, he could so I make
- 33:50Speaker 8: a joke that no one gets. When he was wrong,
- 33:53Speaker 8: he couldn't say it, So he tried to apologize.
- 33:56Speaker 5: He'd like I was rue, couldn't say it.
- 33:59Speaker 2: Phil, we have one question left. Where does the leaderboard stand?
- 34:03Speaker 7: It's down to Steve and Giannis. Steve has eight points,
- 34:05Speaker 7: Honis has seven.
- 34:07Speaker 2: Question ten topic.
- 34:09Speaker 9: No, I didn't tie up with the honest on that one?
- 34:14Speaker 3: Yeah? Should yeah? Phil?
- 34:16Speaker 2: Come on, dude, well, hold on whiteboard. Bill is trying
- 34:19Speaker 2: to eat uh chow main back there or something like that.
- 34:22Speaker 2: What are we eating?
- 34:23Speaker 3: Phil?
- 34:24Speaker 7: It's noodles that are for all of you, that are
- 34:26Speaker 7: just outside the door. I just got mine early.
- 34:27Speaker 9: I just want to sliver.
- 34:28Speaker 5: Well, how many times has Phil screwed this up?
- 34:31Speaker 2: No?
- 34:31Speaker 7: I listen, I changed my whole thing one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
- 34:34Speaker 3: No, I've got Jannis.
- 34:35Speaker 2: I've got Jannis with seven and Brody with six.
- 34:37Speaker 9: Still I've been keeping doing.
- 34:39Speaker 2: Should we do a recap just to make sure?
- 34:41Speaker 5: Okay got it right?
- 34:43Speaker 9: And I was yeah, and I marked it.
- 34:44Speaker 5: No, you were at five?
- 34:45Speaker 2: We were, Yeah, he was at five. He's got six.
- 34:48Speaker 9: Honest, My bad.
- 34:52Speaker 3: Trying to keep.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Question ten serious around here. Question ten, the topic is
- 34:57Speaker 2: hunting or ducks. This pop pose for Taxi dermy Deer,
- 35:02Speaker 2: which comes in full and semi is supposed to portray
- 35:06Speaker 2: a buck looking for a dough.
- 35:09Speaker 6: What happened the other week too.
- 35:13Speaker 2: Brady and Matt know the answer. Here's the question again.
- 35:16Speaker 2: This popular pose for taxidermy deer, which comes in full
- 35:20Speaker 2: and semi, is supposed to portray a buck looking for
- 35:24Speaker 2: a dough. Yanni is coming up with an answer, Yanni,
- 35:28Speaker 2: do you think you have this one right?
- 35:30Speaker 6: I think I think.
- 35:33Speaker 2: To go to overtime, we would need Yanni to get
- 35:35Speaker 2: this right and Steve to get this wrong. Yanni thinks
- 35:38Speaker 2: he has it. Steve, how do you feel about your answer?
- 35:44Speaker 5: Twenty forty against, twenty eighty against?
- 35:46Speaker 2: Okay?
- 35:47Speaker 3: Wow?
- 35:48Speaker 2: Oh, This popular pose for taxidermy deer, which comes in
- 35:53Speaker 2: full and semi, is supposed to portray a buck looking
- 35:56Speaker 2: for a dough. Down to Yannis and Steve. Yanni, how
- 36:02Speaker 2: many taxidermy dear do you have?
- 36:07Speaker 6: Exactly zero?
- 36:08Speaker 8: I'm gonna get the one at my mom and Dad's
- 36:10Speaker 8: house someday.
- 36:11Speaker 6: Like it, but I've been thinking more and more about
