- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Dearren.
- 0:06Speaker 2: While everyone's talking about the big beautiful Bill Trump Musk fiasco,
- 0:11Speaker 2: I want to focus on the local sports scene with
- 0:14Speaker 2: our favorite sports guest, lou Terminella, for Turmela's sake, Hey, Lou,
- 0:20Speaker 2: amidst all the craziness in DC. Here in NYC, we
- 0:23Speaker 2: have a lot to talk about.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Hey, Alex, how are you?
- 0:27Speaker 2: It's a different day in New York because I don't
- 0:29Speaker 2: think anybody expected the news of Tom Thibodeaux being fired
- 0:33Speaker 2: just a few days after being eliminated. I thought they
- 0:36Speaker 2: were giving them a little more leeway after this year.
- 0:38Speaker 2: But you had texted me privately you might believe this
- 0:41Speaker 2: was a pre planned thing here.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Well, it just seems to me. It's hard to believe
- 0:46Speaker 1: that seventy two hours after the Knicks war eliminade by
- 0:53Speaker 1: the Pacers, they made that decision in those two and
- 0:57Speaker 1: a half days to get rid of coach Tippeaux, especially
- 1:03Speaker 1: that they gave him a three year extension that hasn't
- 1:06Speaker 1: kicked in. Well, start was going to kick in with
- 1:09Speaker 1: the twenty five to twenty six season. Now, we all
- 1:13Speaker 1: would like to get a severance package of thirty million
- 1:16Speaker 1: when we get fired. But I watched you know, nothing
- 1:21Speaker 1: shocks me in sports, but this one. This one did
- 1:26Speaker 1: shock me. This one did shock me. I did not
- 1:29Speaker 1: anticipate it. I have a feeling it was in the
- 1:34Speaker 1: works before this series was over. You know, you hear
- 1:39Speaker 1: all kinds of stories about that it came from directly
- 1:43Speaker 1: from management and not really James Dolan. I know all
- 1:47Speaker 1: of the critics are company on Dolan, putting a blame
- 1:55Speaker 1: on him, and but you know, Leondro says it came
- 2:00Speaker 1: from directly from him, and as the head of basketball operations,
- 2:04Speaker 1: I guess he would have to make that decision and
- 2:06Speaker 1: get approval from from Dolan.
- 2:09Speaker 2: Now.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I also hear from a lot of people that worldwide,
- 2:14Speaker 1: Wes William Wesley, who's really connected and you know he
- 2:21Speaker 1: works with the Knicks, did not like Tom Tibodeaux. Tom
- 2:25Speaker 1: Timmineau did not like him and that could have led
- 2:31Speaker 1: to his dismissal. I don't know what.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It looks like. It wasn't a singular player that did this,
- 2:42Speaker 2: because all of them had DIBs back. I mean from
- 2:44Speaker 2: what we could hear in the press conference with Jalen
- 2:46Speaker 2: and what not, they all had to his bat I.
- 2:48Speaker 1: Don't think it came from any of the players. I
- 2:50Speaker 1: really don't. I mean, obviously Carl Anthony Towns who went
- 2:55Speaker 1: to Kentucky and Leon Rose and Worldwide West had Kentucky ties,
- 3:04Speaker 1: But I don't. I don't think it came from from
- 3:08Speaker 1: Karl Anthony Towns being benched in in game what was
- 3:14Speaker 1: that in Game two down the stretch because he was
- 3:19Speaker 1: playing for defense. I don't know. I mean, and now, obviously,
- 3:25Speaker 1: who's going to be the next coach. It's a there's
- 3:28Speaker 1: a wide open for this job. It's still a good job.
- 3:34Speaker 1: I mean, the Knicks had a good season. Let's face it, Alex.
- 3:38Speaker 1: The regular season for the Knicks was whole hum really
- 3:41Speaker 1: when you look at it, I don't know what management
- 3:44Speaker 1: expectations for the twenty four twenty five Knicks really were.
- 3:51Speaker 1: And it's hard to gather analysis during the regular season
- 3:58Speaker 1: of an NBA season because these teams just played differently
- 4:02Speaker 1: during the regular season than they do during the playoffs.
- 4:05Speaker 1: And Knicks really just home home home. The regular season.
- 4:09Speaker 1: They were locked in that three spot most of the year.
- 4:12Speaker 1: They didn't move from it. But you know, let's face it,
- 4:16Speaker 1: the Knicks warren't as a team warren't as athletic or
- 4:19Speaker 1: as deep as Indiana. I mean, you saw as they
- 4:23Speaker 1: were getting run out of the building in the second half,
- 4:29Speaker 1: all the Knick fans who know basketball and they know
- 4:33Speaker 1: that the team wasn't athletic, seeing Obi Toppin, who is athletic,
- 4:38Speaker 1: run the court, getting layups and dunking on the Knicks
- 4:43Speaker 1: and knicks what the Knicks gave him away for a
- 4:44Speaker 1: number two second round draft pick, which most of the
- 4:48Speaker 1: time means nothing in the NBA a second round draft pick.
- 4:51Speaker 1: But they did it, and you know, we'll see what
- 4:57Speaker 1: happens going forward. I don't know what they're gonna do.
- 5:00Speaker 1: You know, we have all this crazy talk about who's
- 5:03Speaker 1: coming here, Jannie. They'll trade the honest, they'll trade for
- 5:08Speaker 1: Kevin Durant, but they didn't have to give up assets.
- 5:14Speaker 1: They're not going to get Kevin Durant for a second
- 5:16Speaker 1: round draft pick. And Michel Bridges is eligible for a
- 5:20Speaker 1: four year, one hundred and fifty six million dollar contract extension.
- 5:28Speaker 1: You know, Brunson is still going to be Brunson. He
- 5:32Speaker 1: dominates the ball as great as he is, and he's
- 5:34Speaker 1: an offensive superstar, but there's no ball movement. I don't
- 5:40Speaker 1: know if this roster is good enough to advance deep
- 5:46Speaker 1: into the playoffs, and by deep I mean going to
- 5:49Speaker 1: the finals and being competitive in the finals with the
- 5:52Speaker 1: style of play that they currently have. Little new coach
- 5:57Speaker 1: changed their style of play. That could be.
- 6:03Speaker 2: But you think there's like a bigger thing afoot here
- 6:07Speaker 2: where they're going to really try and make a play,
- 6:12Speaker 2: want different coaches there for him. It's like there's something
- 6:15Speaker 2: tied to that.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Alex, you broke up there for a second. Can you
- 6:19Speaker 1: repeat that.
- 6:21Speaker 2: I feel like a bigger thing here where they might
- 6:24Speaker 2: actually believe they're in plate for Giannis and they want
- 6:26Speaker 2: the right coach in there. Maybe that's what they're thinking.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 6:32Speaker 1: I mean, I I don't know. I mean, if you
- 6:38Speaker 1: hear that John Johnny Bryant, uh, you know, is one
- 6:46Speaker 1: of the guys that they were talking about as a coach.
- 6:51Speaker 1: You know, there's a lot of and he was he
- 6:53Speaker 1: was an assistant with the Knicks last year. You know,
- 6:56Speaker 1: he was in clevelandhen he was. He was one of
- 6:59Speaker 1: the guys who was in uh the running for the
- 7:03Speaker 1: Phoenix job, which was taken today by another Cavalier assistant coach,
- 7:09Speaker 1: Jordan Ott. So again, I don't know where they're gonna go.
- 7:13Speaker 1: You hear Jay Wright. I don't know if Jay Wright
- 7:16Speaker 1: wants to coach in the NBA. I really don't, you
- 7:22Speaker 1: hear Mark Jackson, Mark Jackson makes sense.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Home. If Jay Wright uh was able to, you know,
- 7:33Speaker 2: wanted the jobs, that would be very interesting if you
- 7:35Speaker 2: got the job.
- 7:36Speaker 1: I don't. I mean, I would be shocking. And now,
- 7:38Speaker 1: of course they don't have to pay him a lot
- 7:40Speaker 1: of money. I just I just don't think that he
- 7:43Speaker 1: wants to get involved in the NC in the NBA
- 7:45Speaker 1: game unless Bridges who played for him, Brunton, who played frohim,
- 7:51Speaker 1: Hard who played for him, really put this, you know,
- 7:55Speaker 1: put the squeeze on him to uh uh, to say hey,
- 7:59Speaker 1: we want you, we want you, we want you. That's
- 8:02Speaker 1: the only way I could see him coming. But he
- 8:04Speaker 1: has a cushy job, you know, doing CBS and uh
- 8:12Speaker 1: that day Wright would surprise me.
- 8:14Speaker 2: What do you think Leon Road is going to look for?
- 8:16Speaker 2: Is it gonna be a guy who can match up
- 8:19Speaker 2: in coaches out with Brunson or is it a what
- 8:22Speaker 2: are they going to look for?
- 8:23Speaker 1: Well, again, a coach is going to uh uh look
- 8:30Speaker 1: at the roster that he's got, and I don't think
- 8:32Speaker 1: there's gonna be many major changes on this roster. So
- 8:35Speaker 1: he either has to find a way to have more ball,
- 8:39Speaker 1: better ball movement, better shot selection, a better inside game,
- 8:44Speaker 1: get Towns down on the block more you know that
- 8:50Speaker 1: type of situation. If he changes the offense, more ball movement,
- 8:54Speaker 1: better shot selection, Uh, that could work. Uh, But again,
- 9:01Speaker 1: a coach is going to have to take that talent
- 9:05Speaker 1: and make it work. And I don't know if that's
- 9:09Speaker 1: if that's possible. I don't know if, if, how far
- 9:12Speaker 1: the Knicks can go. Now, there's a couple of pluses
- 9:14Speaker 1: for the Knicks, Alex. The Eastern Conferences is not gonna
- 9:18Speaker 1: be strong next year. Gaming Lillard is gonna be out
- 9:21Speaker 1: for the year. Giannis may not be on the Bucks
- 9:24Speaker 1: next year. Paydum is probably gonna miss the entire season
- 9:27Speaker 1: next year. So those are two teams, Milwaukee and the
- 9:32Speaker 1: Boston that are not gonna be the Milwaukee and Boston
- 9:36Speaker 1: that we normally thought they'd be. Philadelphia, well, that that's crazy.
- 9:43Speaker 1: They lost more games than the Brooklyn Nets did this year.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Is embiid, I'm gonna play seventy games. You and I
- 9:53Speaker 1: can make that bet right now. No, So that's the
- 9:58Speaker 1: plus side for the Knicks. Competition isn't going to be
- 10:04Speaker 1: that difficult unless they have injuries. I mean, if gofa
- 10:08Speaker 1: brid brunts in the first month of the season, you know,
- 10:11Speaker 1: tears are tears his knee or as acl or his achilles,
- 10:17Speaker 1: the Knicks are done. But uh, you know, we'll see
- 10:22Speaker 1: what happens. You got teams up and coming like Detroit
- 10:25Speaker 1: and uh, Orlando, and you have Cleveland, which is going
- 10:30Speaker 1: to learn from this experience of really this is the
- 10:33Speaker 1: first time they were looked at as a as a contender.
- 10:37Speaker 2: So you're telling me you don't think Boston and Milwaukee
- 10:39Speaker 2: you're gonna be where they're at right now?
- 10:41Speaker 1: No, no dominant then, no way. I think I think
- 10:46Speaker 1: Boston's in a lot of trouble. I really do. I
- 10:49Speaker 1: think Boston's in a lot of trouble. I know that
- 10:52Speaker 1: sounds hard to believe, and I don't mean they're gonna
- 10:54Speaker 1: be in trouble for the next five years. They're going
- 10:56Speaker 1: to be in trouble next year. I mean, maybe Tatum
- 11:00Speaker 1: comes back in February or March, he's probably gona miss
- 11:05Speaker 1: the whole season. Same thing with Lillard. They both got
- 11:07Speaker 1: hurt in the playoffs, and if Janns gets traded, the
- 11:15Speaker 1: Bucks are nowhere. And if JANNYT gets traded, I don't
- 11:20Speaker 1: think they're gonna trade into an Eastern conference contending things.
- 11:25Speaker 2: No, And that would be like hey, Kat going over
- 11:27Speaker 2: to the East instead of staying in the West. So
- 11:29Speaker 2: I could see what you're saying there. It'll be a
- 11:32Speaker 2: fun summer though, and a lot of moves. But I
- 11:36Speaker 2: do want to focus on tonight because obviously, and I
- 11:40Speaker 2: said this, I'm gonna be label the point I said
- 11:42Speaker 2: a year ago, can Connor McDavid get back here? He's
- 11:44Speaker 2: back here. He's in the Stanley Cup again a year later,
- 11:46Speaker 2: and that was a bit of a surprising run for
- 11:49Speaker 2: the Whilers. I did not expect them to get to here,
- 11:52Speaker 2: but here we are, and I think they take They
- 11:55Speaker 2: come in with some momentum, a little more than last year.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Actually, Alex, I agree with you. They lost their first
- 12:03Speaker 1: two games to the Kings in Los Angeles, and I,
- 12:07Speaker 1: as I said last week, I thought the Kings were
- 12:10Speaker 1: gonna win the series after they went up to ZIP,
- 12:13Speaker 1: But since then they've only lost two games, and ironically,
- 12:20Speaker 1: it's going to be a rematch, and it's only the
- 12:22Speaker 1: twelfth rematch in the Stanley Cup Final in league history,
- 12:27Speaker 1: So it makes for a very interesting final. I mean,
- 12:33Speaker 1: both teams are at the top of their game. Florida
- 12:37Speaker 1: might be a little bit more worn out because they've
- 12:39Speaker 1: had to play this is their third straight he came
- 12:44Speaker 1: to the final and these extra rounds to weigh you down.
- 12:47Speaker 1: But Florida again, as we saw in the Carolina series,
- 12:53Speaker 1: they're relentless. They give their opponents now open ice, they
- 12:57Speaker 1: give them no room. They wear you out. They are fit, physical,
- 13:01Speaker 1: u and they have the better goaltending. You know, they
- 13:05Speaker 1: for check you the death, and that's going to be
- 13:08Speaker 1: a key to the game the series. How the Edmonton
- 13:13Speaker 1: d men are able to get that puck out of
- 13:17Speaker 1: their own zone and get it to McDavid and Dry,
- 13:20Speaker 1: Sidle and Evander Kaine and Corey Perry and the Ryan
- 13:26Speaker 1: Newton Hopkins. But again, Oiler's have much more defensive structure
- 13:32Speaker 1: than they've had in the past. They have much more
- 13:34Speaker 1: defensive responsibility and they have the two best players on
- 13:38Speaker 1: the ice in Conor McDavid and Leon Dry style. So
- 13:43Speaker 1: the key matchup and I don't know how you know,
- 13:45Speaker 1: I know Edmonton, and this year Edmonton has the home ice.
- 13:48Speaker 1: Last year Florida had the home ice, So the first
- 13:51Speaker 1: two games are going to be being Edmonton. Key matchup
- 13:54Speaker 1: is going to be the great Alexander Barkov, who just
- 13:57Speaker 1: won his third Selfie Award was announced. Yes, they've versus McDavid.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I don't know, alex how much they're gonna match up
- 14:04Speaker 1: against each other. I assume they'll be on the ice
- 14:06Speaker 1: a lot against each other, as the coaches could set
- 14:11Speaker 1: that up. But Edmonton learned a lot playing in the
- 14:15Speaker 1: final last year, and I think that Beck is an advantage.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Their power play isn't as good as it was last
- 14:23Speaker 1: year in the playoffs, and their penalty kill, which was
- 14:26Speaker 1: phenomenal in the playoffs last year, is not as good
- 14:29Speaker 1: as it was. They're gonna miss Zach Hymen. I mean,
- 14:32Speaker 1: he had one hundred and eleven hits and he is
- 14:35Speaker 1: a goalscorer. Alex I just feel this is Edmondson's time.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I really do.
- 14:42Speaker 2: I even think Skinners improved from last year. I don't
- 14:44Speaker 2: know what changed, but he seems to be on the
- 14:46Speaker 2: point this year.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Well, he has the experience of another year and of
- 14:50Speaker 1: going deep into the playoffs. He's getting less high, high
- 14:55Speaker 1: pressure shots against him. And this is Chris nablocks first
- 15:00Speaker 1: full year as coach of the of the Oilers training
- 15:04Speaker 1: camp and the whole season, and again his year. The
- 15:07Speaker 1: Oilers got off to a slow start, but.
- 15:12Speaker 2: They in some ways we keep talking about Knoblock. In
- 15:14Speaker 2: some ways, the Rangers would have won this Cup if
- 15:16Speaker 2: it happens because he's a New York prodigy right there.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Well again that has he could be a New York prodigy.
- 15:22Speaker 1: But this really has nothing to do with the Rangers,
- 15:25Speaker 1: who blew it by not giving a kno Block the
- 15:29Speaker 1: head coaching job. In my opinion, I mean, this guy
- 15:32Speaker 1: obviously has earned it. I would it surprised me if
- 15:38Speaker 1: for Florida one Alex it would not. I mean, they
- 15:41Speaker 1: did a great job at the trade deadline getting Brad
- 15:43Speaker 1: mar Shaan and Seth Jones, whose career looked like it
- 15:47Speaker 1: was in mud. He is he was a big time,
- 15:51Speaker 1: big time draft pick, and it looked.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Like by the way, come up back to back. Yep,
- 15:58Speaker 2: I'm sorry, no, no, go ahead, but you were about
- 16:00Speaker 2: no you talk about back to back, by the way,
- 16:01Speaker 2: I'm just thinking about this. Then you finish your thought
- 16:04Speaker 2: that the dynastic eras of hockey seem to be so
- 16:08Speaker 2: difficult to attain. Now it was easier for somehow with
- 16:11Speaker 2: Bowman and the Red Wings and then you know it
- 16:14Speaker 2: just I don't see those dynastic teams. Maybe the Panders will.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Well, I think that's because of the salary cap, and
- 16:21Speaker 1: you can't keep sometimes you can't keep a player that
- 16:24Speaker 1: you want to keep. If there was no salary cap,
- 16:27Speaker 1: I think you can. I mean as recently at sixteen seventeen,
- 16:32Speaker 1: the Penguins won the championship, they won the cup. The
- 16:38Speaker 1: Tampa Bay did it, you know, in twenty and twenty one,
- 16:41Speaker 1: so I think it's I mean, I think it's still there.
- 16:44Speaker 1: Are you going to see somebody when eight Cups in
- 16:46Speaker 1: ten years, I don't think so.
- 16:47Speaker 2: Canadians were just out of this world and that record
- 16:51Speaker 2: idly will ever be matched by any bait. But about
- 16:53Speaker 2: defending champions I remember a back to back Stanley Cup
- 16:55Speaker 2: in a while, so it'll be interesting to see if that.
- 17:00Speaker 2: I gotta say. Dave German has invited us to an
- 17:03Speaker 2: event with Jim Lampley, so we're probably gonna go on
- 17:04Speaker 2: Monday night. How cool is that?
- 17:07Speaker 1: Well, he's A. He's a very proud University of North
- 17:10Speaker 1: Carolina alum. And Jim Lampley, you know, obviously he's a
- 17:15Speaker 1: broadcasting great, you know, sideline reporter in college football, obviously boxing,
- 17:23Speaker 1: I think he's he's got to be in the Boxing
- 17:25Speaker 1: Hall of Fame. And he was one of the first
- 17:28Speaker 1: voices on w f A N. And even though he
- 17:32Speaker 1: was doing the show, I believe he was doing the
- 17:33Speaker 1: show from Los Angeles, even though he was talking sports
- 17:36Speaker 1: on wf A N. And the original, the original lineup
- 17:41Speaker 1: before they went they got away from some of those
- 17:44Speaker 1: national type of broadcasters. Brian Thumbel was the original morning
- 17:50Speaker 1: man and so again, No, Lampley's had a fantastic career.
- 17:55Speaker 2: I know about fan these all these outlets are going
- 17:58Speaker 2: crazy over this. Any word of a mister media maven
- 18:01Speaker 2: yourself to those that are getting worked up over cat
- 18:04Speaker 2: over thieves, I mean, everybody's got to calm down and
- 18:07Speaker 2: let everything play out. That's just how I feel about it.
- 18:13Speaker 1: They have to, they have to calm down and uh
- 18:19Speaker 1: but again, Alex, it makes it makes for reaction. Some
- 18:25Speaker 1: of these people on talk shows nationwide, I don't even
- 18:29Speaker 1: know if they believe what they say. They might just
- 18:32Speaker 1: they they might say uh stuff that they really don't believe,
- 18:36Speaker 1: but it'll get a reaction from the callers. They'll get
- 18:39Speaker 1: more calls. So but yeah, everybody's got to calm everybody's
- 18:43Speaker 1: got to calm down. I don't like this what the
- 18:46Speaker 1: Knicks did, but it's not the first time it's happened.
- 18:49Speaker 1: We've seen it in all sports. Again, the Knicks have
- 18:54Speaker 1: to improved their team.
- 18:56Speaker 2: I think the other worry is we've been we were
- 18:58Speaker 2: through for twenty five years except for the times. I
- 19:01Speaker 2: guess twenty years we were through coach after coach and
- 19:05Speaker 2: nothing worked. I think there's a bit of a trouble
- 19:07Speaker 2: trying out coach after coach here.
- 19:10Speaker 1: Yeah. No, and you've seen that, h You've seen that
- 19:12Speaker 1: from the both both massive square garden teams. That's what
- 19:16Speaker 1: that seems to be their management style. So you know,
- 19:21Speaker 1: a lack of lack of continuity.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Now you know, you know the Nets can still be
- 19:26Speaker 2: still be the uh lost team to reach the in
- 19:31Speaker 2: the Tri States Fires, You're going to have that still
- 19:33Speaker 2: going for that. You were the last team to Yeah, hope, no,
- 19:37Speaker 2: I hope I realized they clinched the last one home.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Oh I remember that that night vividly against the against
- 19:45Speaker 1: Detroit Saturday night, and they destroyed them in the second half.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Our team coached by Rick Carlisle. Uh, the Detroit Pistons
- 19:55Speaker 1: were coached by Carlisle and then that's beat them for
- 19:59Speaker 1: fourth straight. We won ten playoff games in a row
- 20:02Speaker 1: going into that final, and then we lost to this
- 20:04Speaker 1: first four games too. You know, talking about keeping coaches,
- 20:10Speaker 1: I see that new Islander general manager Matthew dark is
- 20:15Speaker 1: keeping Patrick Wah, and I wasn't sure what was going
- 20:19Speaker 1: to happen there. But apparently, even though they didn't know
- 20:22Speaker 1: each other previously, they spoke and they both I guess
- 20:28Speaker 1: I believe in the same type of more open type
- 20:31Speaker 1: of offense of system than the Islands that's shown in
- 20:35Speaker 1: the past. And I guess mister Lamorello and Patrick Watt
- 20:39Speaker 1: disagreed on how on how the team should be structured.
- 20:43Speaker 1: But Patrick Wah and Matthew darsh both believe in more
- 20:47Speaker 1: or more offensive, wide open game with defensive responsibility of course.
- 20:52Speaker 1: And and I know that Patrick Wah believes in the
- 20:57Speaker 1: five man rotation. You know, five men on the ice.
- 21:02Speaker 1: That's the that's the Russian style, the Russian five like
- 21:06Speaker 1: that they had when the Red Wings were winning their
- 21:10Speaker 1: championships in the late nineties, and then you know in
- 21:13Speaker 1: the in the first part of the two thousands, and
- 21:16Speaker 1: they're also they also say they're going to keep their
- 21:18Speaker 1: number one pick, which I assume it's going to be
- 21:21Speaker 1: the defenseman Matthew Schneider, who's only seventeen, and he's not
- 21:25Speaker 1: he won't be in the NHL next year or the
- 21:27Speaker 1: year after, but he seems to be the consensus number
- 21:30Speaker 1: one pick. If they don't pick him, there's there's there's
- 21:36Speaker 1: other guys available, Michael Missa, who's an offensive player, he's
- 21:41Speaker 1: a forward. So James Hagen's who's from Long Island played
- 21:44Speaker 1: for Boston College but also Seattle has contacted the Islanders
- 21:51Speaker 1: about the number one excuse me, the Sharks San Jose
- 21:56Speaker 1: has contacted the Islanders about if they had any in
- 22:00Speaker 1: trading number one pick, and Matthew Darr said they don't.
- 22:04Speaker 1: So they did resign Kyle Palmry for a two year
- 22:09Speaker 1: deal at four point seven million. And I just wonder
- 22:13Speaker 1: if any of the main stage that we've gotten so
- 22:16Speaker 1: used to could be traded, like like a Matthew Barzel.
- 22:22Speaker 1: No adopts, and do they sign him to a long
- 22:23Speaker 1: term deal or do they put him in the trade.
- 22:27Speaker 1: Do they put a hot bo Horvat in the trade
- 22:31Speaker 1: even though he's got six years left on his I
- 22:34Speaker 1: think six years left on his deal, and he's played
- 22:35Speaker 1: very well for the Islands, I don't know what the
- 22:38Speaker 1: roster is going to look like. And Alex. On July first,
- 22:43Speaker 1: free agency starts, and you got guys like Sam Benda
- 22:46Speaker 1: of the Florida Panthers, And of course the number one
- 22:50Speaker 1: free agent is Mitch Marner, and both the Islanders and
- 22:56Speaker 1: the New Jersey Devils should be looking at a guy
- 22:59Speaker 1: like Mitch Marner. So it's gonna be an interesting off
- 23:02Speaker 1: season for both the NHL and the NBA around here,
- 23:06Speaker 1: at least with the local teams.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Yeah, but then nationally where you might see the last
- 23:11Speaker 2: year of OV. I don't know how true that is
- 23:13Speaker 2: that email leak was kind of a big deal, but
- 23:16Speaker 2: you know, we'll have to see.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think it's too early to tell
- 23:20Speaker 1: if this is last year or not. I mean, Alex,
- 23:24Speaker 1: he's gonna score forty goals this year, so if he
- 23:26Speaker 1: gets up to like nine to forty three, you mean
- 23:30Speaker 1: he's not gonna stick around and try to get a thousand.
- 23:33Speaker 1: I don't know, Maybe I'm wrong. I think if he
- 23:37Speaker 1: gets if he gets to a thousand, it's remarkable.
- 23:42Speaker 2: It would be unheard of. Really. Ever, now we'll not
- 23:47Speaker 2: sorry we didn't get a touch to touch on with
- 23:49Speaker 2: this nick playoff from is the disaster at UNC speaking
- 23:53Speaker 2: of coaches, and it's not really gossip. It's just that
- 23:56Speaker 2: Bill Belichick is not off to a great start at
- 23:59Speaker 2: you and see. I mean, have you been following this story?
- 24:02Speaker 2: Is chaos? What the great Patriot coaches landed into with
- 24:07Speaker 2: with this girl. I don't know. It's very strange. What's
- 24:09Speaker 2: going on.
- 24:10Speaker 1: That's his business, that's his personal business. Do I think
- 24:14Speaker 1: she's too much out in the open, She's gotten too
- 24:16Speaker 1: much play? I do, Uh, just like Taylor Swift with Kelsey,
- 24:20Speaker 1: with Travis Kelsey, I mean all of them. But I
- 24:23Speaker 1: do think knowing how Belichick is, uh, come college football season,
- 24:31Speaker 1: he's gonna have he's gonna have University of North Carolina
- 24:33Speaker 1: ready to play football. I would be surprised if they
- 24:37Speaker 1: look disorganized. I would be surprised if you don't see
- 24:46Speaker 1: a major upgrade.
- 24:47Speaker 2: I don't buy that she's running practice. That doesn't make
- 24:50Speaker 2: sense to me.
- 24:50Speaker 1: She's not. Don't believe that, Alex, do not believe that.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Do not.
- 24:54Speaker 1: That's that's corsecraft. Don't don't believe that.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Yeah, no, I don't believe that for a second. But uh,
- 25:02Speaker 2: I gotta I gotta say. It makes for interesting off
- 25:05Speaker 2: season drama. And I think it's Cousin's belichick that it's
- 25:08Speaker 2: off season dramas.
- 25:09Speaker 1: So yeah, so it absolutely does, and we are in
- 25:12Speaker 1: it's more than just sports more than ever. It's that
- 25:16Speaker 1: who's their famous uh wife or girlfriend? It really and
- 25:21Speaker 1: it gets annoying after a while. The only thing I
- 25:23Speaker 1: care about is the teams I root for. I want
- 25:26Speaker 1: to see that. I want to see them, see them win.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I don't care who they're dating, who theyre who they're
- 25:32Speaker 1: married to, who they're sleeping with. I really don't care.
- 25:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'm not gonna go there. But as
- 25:39Speaker 2: long as Piazza was hitting homeers, you didn't care who
- 25:41Speaker 2: he was with, right, Remember that rumor mill back in the.
- 25:43Speaker 1: Day that was kind of of course, of course that
- 25:46Speaker 1: was and you know that that was that that was debunked.
- 25:49Speaker 2: But uh, and he's you know, he's been around the
- 25:52Speaker 2: Mets a little more. He seemed to diss himself a bit,
- 25:55Speaker 2: But I feel like he's back in the Ford with
- 25:57Speaker 2: the Mets, which is good to see him.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Well, I think he I think he spends half of
- 26:02Speaker 1: his time living in Italy.
- 26:05Speaker 2: And I'm sure he'll be there for the right retirement. Well,
- 26:07Speaker 2: and we're all hoping to get to that one, so
- 26:09Speaker 2: we'll see. Hey, Lou. Speaking of the Mets, you know,
- 26:14Speaker 2: if they win the season series against the Dodgers, Met
- 26:17Speaker 2: fans will not let the Yankees hear the end of it,
- 26:19Speaker 2: because they'd have won the series in the series and
- 26:21Speaker 2: the Yankees would have lost two out of three in
- 26:23Speaker 2: embarrassing fashion. I mean, it is wild that the trajectory
- 26:27Speaker 2: of both teams here. When it comes to the Dodgers,
- 26:29Speaker 2: It's like the Mets were so pissed up about being
- 26:32Speaker 2: two games away and eliminated by the Dodgers. They're having
- 26:36Speaker 2: a bit of a revenge tour against La right now.
- 26:38Speaker 1: I have to say, well, it doesn't matter what the
- 26:42Speaker 1: Mets did against against the Dodgers, what the Yankees do
- 26:45Speaker 1: against the Dodgers, it doesn't it doesn't matter. That's a
- 26:49Speaker 1: fans thing. I'm a Mets fan, I don't look at
- 26:51Speaker 1: it that way. The Mets have won all five games
- 26:55Speaker 1: that they played the Dodge this year. They should go
- 26:57Speaker 1: on that Friday night, the first game at City Field,
- 27:00Speaker 1: and they had. They should have won that one, and
- 27:02Speaker 1: they could have really won last night. The bullpen was
- 27:04Speaker 1: a little strapped, and last that was frustrating. But you know,
- 27:12Speaker 1: Nimo lost lost the fly ball, he lost the trajectory
- 27:16Speaker 1: and a fly ball, a ball that an outfielder of
- 27:19Speaker 1: his caliber catches ninety nine and nine tenths. At the time,
- 27:23Speaker 1: I thought, you know, that would have been But they
- 27:25Speaker 1: really should have won all five games. But again, even
- 27:29Speaker 1: if I'll always go back to nineteen eighty eight when
- 27:32Speaker 1: the Mets played the Dodgers in the National League Championship Series.
- 27:36Speaker 1: They played them eleven times, the Mets won ten, the
- 27:40Speaker 1: Dodgers won one, and the Dodgers, who were nowhere near
- 27:44Speaker 1: as good as the Mets, the Mets roster was three
- 27:46Speaker 1: times better, but they had Hersheiser, who the Mets did
- 27:49Speaker 1: beat in Game one were the three run ninth inning,
- 27:52Speaker 1: a three to two. But the Dodgers won the series
- 27:57Speaker 1: in seven, and then they were heavily underdoor up to
- 28:00Speaker 1: an Oakland team that was much better than them, and
- 28:03Speaker 1: they beat them in five. So you don't know. So
- 28:06Speaker 1: what happens in June means nothing. Well, this series means nothing.
- 28:10Speaker 1: If the Mets win the next two games, it means nothing.
- 28:13Speaker 1: If the Dodgers win the next two games, means nothing.
- 28:16Speaker 1: The Mets have a good team. The Yankees have a
- 28:18Speaker 1: good team. The Yankees have no worries. The American League
- 28:22Speaker 1: East is pathetic.
- 28:23Speaker 2: So you know, you don't think the Weaver injury is
- 28:27Speaker 2: going to impact them severely. See four to six weeks.
- 28:29Speaker 1: The only thing that could could affect them on Maybe
- 28:33Speaker 1: they won't get the best record, which I think they
- 28:36Speaker 1: will when the season comes to an end, but it's
- 28:38Speaker 1: not gonna threaten them in any way. They're not losing
- 28:41Speaker 1: the American League East. Who's gonna threaten them? Not Boston,
- 28:45Speaker 1: not Toronto, not Baltimore. Who has been the biggest disappointment
- 28:50Speaker 1: in Major League baseball? Talk about a team that's regressed
- 28:53Speaker 1: from all those youthful stars that all these.
- 28:59Speaker 2: Are one plus wins a couple of years ago alone
- 29:02Speaker 2: with the same stars as this year.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, so they are. They had the biggest disappointment
- 29:08Speaker 1: in baseball, and Alex thumbs up kudos to the Milwaukee Brewers,
- 29:13Speaker 1: who had a horrible first month of the season. There's
- 29:16Speaker 1: I think there's six games over. There're thirty four and
- 29:18Speaker 1: twenty eight or thirty four and twenty nine. I mean,
- 29:21Speaker 1: they've turned this season.
- 29:22Speaker 2: And kudos to the Rockies for winning their first series
- 29:24Speaker 2: of twenty five as they did come back.
- 29:27Speaker 1: They swept. They swept the Marlins all three games they
- 29:31Speaker 1: won today. So yeah, Colorado. I first of all, I
- 29:35Speaker 1: knew Colorado wasn't going to be good. I didn't think
- 29:38Speaker 1: they were going to be this bad.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I do feel bad for about Black, he got the
- 29:42Speaker 2: brunt of that whole thing. But let me let me
- 29:44Speaker 2: let me shift gears for a second. Saying in baseball,
- 29:48Speaker 2: because you talk about a guy that should be on
- 29:50Speaker 2: another team, and it's probably still kicking himself for signing
- 29:54Speaker 2: that deal with the Angels. But Mike shots back. He's
- 29:57Speaker 2: got another ten plus home run. I mean, the guy
- 30:01Speaker 2: keeps hitting, and I just he's a guy I want
- 30:04Speaker 2: to get a ring. But because he locked himself into
- 30:06Speaker 2: the Angels, it may never happen.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Well, the thing is the only way that he can
- 30:11Speaker 1: unlock himself from the Los Angeles Angels. Is if the
- 30:16Speaker 1: Angels take back a lot of money, uh and on
- 30:21Speaker 1: the contract, keep up a lot of money, retain a
- 30:23Speaker 1: lot of money on his contract, and trade him to
- 30:26Speaker 1: a Phillies or to a Mets or to a Yankees,
- 30:28Speaker 1: and give up. By by them retaining their money, they'll
- 30:32Speaker 1: get bet they'll get better prospects. I would take him
- 30:36Speaker 1: on the Mets. I would. I mean, I don't think
- 30:38Speaker 1: he's shot. He's obviously no.
- 30:40Speaker 2: He's proving he's not shot. And I think and that
- 30:44Speaker 2: fan base, I mean, you look at a fan base
- 30:47Speaker 2: that's just been tortured. You had Otani, you had trout
- 30:50Speaker 2: you had even Render. You know, you have these guys
- 30:53Speaker 2: that have been stars and Moreno has ran them terribly.
- 30:57Speaker 2: I'm just gonna say that it's not been good he has.
- 31:00Speaker 1: And you know what, the most amazing thing is they
- 31:03Speaker 1: probably have the most unknown and underrated fan base as
- 31:07Speaker 1: far as the loyalty factor. They draw over three million
- 31:11Speaker 1: fans every year and the team thinks, I mean, it's
- 31:15Speaker 1: it's a it's amazing. So uh yeah, I feel bad
- 31:20Speaker 1: for Trouty. He had some horrible injuries. He was gonna
- 31:23Speaker 1: be an old timer all all old timer. Uh, just
- 31:27Speaker 1: a fantastic He is a still fantastic player. The fact
- 31:29Speaker 1: he had ten home runs and he missed like five
- 31:32Speaker 1: weeks is.
- 31:34Speaker 2: And I'm mentioning him here because I feel like he's
- 31:35Speaker 2: not getting much love anywhere else. I mean, we gotta
- 31:37Speaker 2: shout him out here. He's not getting much love anywhere
- 31:39Speaker 2: else right now.
- 31:40Speaker 1: He doesn't get he he doesn't get the love that
- 31:43Speaker 1: he did is when he first came up. I mean,
- 31:45Speaker 1: the guy either finished first in the MVP or finished second.
- 31:49Speaker 1: And and ase years he finished second, he uh should
- 31:55Speaker 1: have or could have finished first. So so that's the
- 31:59Speaker 1: way goes.
- 32:01Speaker 2: That's why baseball is all right. Well, I'm kind of
- 32:03Speaker 2: excited to get this weekend over because you're gonna have
- 32:06Speaker 2: the final most likely unless they're doing it through twenty six,
- 32:09Speaker 2: but hopefully you might have the last Belmont Stakes in Saratoga.
- 32:13Speaker 2: I'm hoping it comes back next year. I miss it.
- 32:16Speaker 2: I don't know if you've ever been there, but I
- 32:17Speaker 2: love the Belmont Stakes. It's one of my favorite race days,
- 32:20Speaker 2: my dad's favorite race day. So hopefully it comes back
- 32:22Speaker 2: to Belmont sooner.
- 32:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know where the construction.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Is.
- 32:29Speaker 1: I don't know if they think they'll have it ready
- 32:31Speaker 1: for next June. But obviously this race it's all about
- 32:35Speaker 1: journalism versus sovereignty, you know. And the big controversy is
- 32:42Speaker 1: because Sovereignty didn't run in the Preakness after winning the Derby.
- 32:46Speaker 1: But I'm looking forward to watching the race on Saturday
- 32:49Speaker 1: around seven o'clock.
- 32:51Speaker 2: It's one of those things that keep tradition alive, you know.
- 32:53Speaker 2: And I can't believe we're in June already. And one
- 32:56Speaker 2: last note before we go it is was lou gerrig
- 33:01Speaker 2: Day this past week on June second past. Yeah, he's
- 33:05Speaker 2: on him last night. I mean, obviously you didn't grow
- 33:08Speaker 2: up watching him play, But but you're a history guy,
- 33:10Speaker 2: so in your reason of lou gereg anything stayed out
- 33:13Speaker 2: to you. I mean, the fact that he played with
- 33:14Speaker 2: Als for that last year was really amazing to me.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Alex. You know, you do a lot of research on
- 33:21Speaker 1: lou Gerek. You know, he never missed the game. He
- 33:24Speaker 1: was not only an outstanding baseball player, was outstanding a
- 33:29Speaker 1: football player if he if he had stayed in if
- 33:32Speaker 1: he didn't concentrate on baseball. But you read about now
- 33:37Speaker 1: Als comes from head trauma most of the time, a
- 33:43Speaker 1: lot of the time. I mean, I know I had
- 33:45Speaker 1: a friend who had it and has passed away from
- 33:49Speaker 1: als and and died died quickly. But we see Steve,
- 33:52Speaker 1: Steve Gleason of the New Orleans Saints, who's had it
- 33:55Speaker 1: for about twelve years. His claim to fame, obviously was
- 34:00Speaker 1: the first game back in the super Dome f the Katrina,
- 34:03Speaker 1: when he blocked a punt against the Falcons for the
- 34:05Speaker 1: winning score. But if you read about Lou Garrick, many
- 34:10Speaker 1: times he got hit in the head. There's no helmets.
- 34:12Speaker 1: He got hit in the head at the plate, he
- 34:14Speaker 1: got hit on throws from second base trying to break
- 34:16Speaker 1: up double plays. He got knead in the head. And
- 34:20Speaker 1: when they probably gave him was two aspirins. They knew
- 34:22Speaker 1: nothing about concussions, they knew nothing about head trauma, and
- 34:25Speaker 1: he stayed out there. So that build up of blows
- 34:30Speaker 1: to the head just like just like Muhammad Ali getting Parkinson's.
- 34:34Speaker 1: I mean Muhammad Ali, I mean he was probably boxing
- 34:39Speaker 1: since the age of eleven or twelve, and all those
- 34:43Speaker 1: shots to the head, those remember als a neurological disease.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Parkinson's a neurological disease. These guys who were able to
- 34:51Speaker 1: perform and like you said, Derek had it at the
- 34:56Speaker 1: end of his career and was still able to perform
- 34:58Speaker 1: at a level at is remarkable. Yeah, it's it's unbelievable.
- 35:06Speaker 1: And I mean the guy was an all time great. Obviously,
- 35:11Speaker 1: he he just the one who don't want to come
- 35:16Speaker 1: out of the game and he just didn't and that
- 35:20Speaker 1: probably cost him his life. But what he did was remarkable.
- 35:27Speaker 1: I mean he added clean up behind Babe Bruce, the
- 35:30Speaker 1: greatest team player in my opinion, in the history of
- 35:34Speaker 1: American sports. Babe Bruce set the table for team sports
- 35:41Speaker 1: and the popularity of sports in America. Of team sports
- 35:44Speaker 1: in America, remember up to that time, you know, boxing
- 35:47Speaker 1: was and horse racing were as popular. And what Babe
- 35:54Speaker 1: Bruce did, especially coming after the black Sax scandal of
- 35:57Speaker 1: nineteen nineteen, lou Gerrick Back a fourth for the Yankees.
- 36:01Speaker 1: He would That's how the Yankees started using numbers. They
- 36:05Speaker 1: were one of the first teams to use numbers. Everybody
- 36:06Speaker 1: thinks they were the first team. I believe they were
- 36:08Speaker 1: the second. I think the Cleveland Indians were technically the
- 36:12Speaker 1: first team and they assign the numbers by way they
- 36:17Speaker 1: batted in the lineup. It's not like nowadays, Alex. Those
- 36:19Speaker 1: guys batted cleanup or third or seventh. Really the whole year,
- 36:25Speaker 1: there was little change in the lineup most of the time.
- 36:28Speaker 1: And Louke Gerrick bad clean up number four. He bat
- 36:31Speaker 1: behind the great Babe Ruth, the greatest team player in
- 36:40Speaker 1: sports history. He made team sports what it is today.
- 36:47Speaker 1: There's no doubt about it. I know it's ninety years
- 36:49Speaker 1: since he played, but the influence of Babe Ruth on
- 36:53Speaker 1: American sport cannot be understated. He's the greatest athlete in
- 37:00Speaker 1: American history.
- 37:03Speaker 2: And he was a big athlete. That's what also made
- 37:04Speaker 2: him stand out, that's for sure. And man, oh man,
- 37:08Speaker 2: what an athlete, what a although I heard he ran
- 37:11Speaker 2: pretty good for a guy who was a bit.
- 37:13Speaker 1: Bigger, Yes he did. And again he won ninety four
- 37:16Speaker 1: games for like almost forty years. He had for over
- 37:20Speaker 1: forty years, he had to record for most consecutive shoutout
- 37:24Speaker 1: innings in World Series play until Whitey Ford broke it
- 37:29Speaker 1: in nineteen sixty one. So he was, he was. He
- 37:35Speaker 1: was unbelievable.
- 37:36Speaker 2: All right. One, we'll get to the French Open later
- 37:40Speaker 2: because I see there are still some Americans in there,
- 37:41Speaker 2: which is great. But one thing before we go, everybody's saying, well,
- 37:47Speaker 2: because New York teams and you know, out of market
- 37:50Speaker 2: teams is gonna be a snoozefest, nobody's gonna watch. You
- 37:54Speaker 2: don't believe all that. Right, people are gonna watch these
- 37:56Speaker 2: two NBA final and Stanley Cup final, right, I mean
- 37:59Speaker 2: they're gonna.
- 37:59Speaker 1: Watch Alex Nothing. Okay, So people say they're not going
- 38:08Speaker 1: to watch, like say, last year, the Celtics are in it. Oh,
- 38:12Speaker 1: Lebron's in it again, you know, so they say it's boring,
- 38:17Speaker 1: you know, Lebron's always in it, nothing new about it. Well,
- 38:21Speaker 1: this year we're gonna get the seventh straight new champion
- 38:24Speaker 1: in the NBA. And why wouldn't why wouldn't you watch
- 38:30Speaker 1: Oklahoma City in Indiana? If some Knick fans don't want
- 38:34Speaker 1: to watch because they think they should be there, well
- 38:36Speaker 1: that's stuff on them. Indiana was a better team, they
- 38:39Speaker 1: were better coached. And we talked about Carlisle having a
- 38:42Speaker 1: little bit of an edge on Thibodeau, and I think
- 38:44Speaker 1: he'd proved that in this series. Now, I think I
- 38:47Speaker 1: think Oklahoma City's gonna win. I think they could win
- 38:50Speaker 1: in five. I hope it could be two to two
- 38:55Speaker 1: at the end of four games, just for interest's sake.
- 38:58Speaker 1: But it doesn't matter. Doesn't matter if the ratings are
- 39:02Speaker 1: twenty million or five million. Yes, it matters for the advertisers.
- 39:08Speaker 1: But let's face it, I think we're past the ratings
- 39:11Speaker 1: game because there's so much money to be made in
- 39:15Speaker 1: the NBA in so many different ways. And if that's
- 39:17Speaker 1: the case, then just have a big market league. That's it.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Just have a big market league, you know, get no,
- 39:25Speaker 1: don't have a team in Oklahoma City with Sacramento or
- 39:28Speaker 1: Portland or New Orleans.
- 39:31Speaker 2: Very good point. By the way Oklahoma City brought so
- 39:33Speaker 2: much to that city, I mean, and the way they've
- 39:36Speaker 2: been winning these games. And actually Indiana one kind of similarly,
- 39:41Speaker 2: not not against the Knicks so much as these other guys.
- 39:43Speaker 2: I mean, look, they blew through the Cabs, so that
- 39:45Speaker 2: told me they were serious contenders for this and people
- 39:50Speaker 2: who thought that, we all thought the Knicks had have
- 39:52Speaker 2: been an edge. But you know, that means we didn't
- 39:54Speaker 2: watch the Cabs series as closely as I should have, because.
- 39:57Speaker 1: That's right, You're Alex, you make a great point. Look
- 40:01Speaker 1: could they beat They beat Milwaukee with Giannis and even
- 40:07Speaker 1: Lillard played the first game before or two before he
- 40:11Speaker 1: blew out his achilles. They beat the Cavaliers, they beat
- 40:13Speaker 1: the Knicks. I mean, what what more? What what you
- 40:19Speaker 1: want them to do? And they're young Indiana and so
- 40:22Speaker 1: is Oklahoma City And isn't that what we want?
- 40:26Speaker 2: And on the other side, I think the NHL is
- 40:28Speaker 2: very fortunate to have Connor back because I think having
- 40:31Speaker 2: McDavid back in the Cup just means something a little
- 40:34Speaker 2: more than the average player here.
- 40:37Speaker 1: Well, obviously having the best player in the world, uh
- 40:41Speaker 1: in the Stanley Cup Final is in creb Lassett. I
- 40:45Speaker 1: just wish the game was over the era and not
- 40:47Speaker 1: on TNT, which was on ABC like it was last year.
- 40:51Speaker 1: And you know, Game seven did verya Remember the.
- 40:53Speaker 2: Years where they were on like the Outdoors Network. I'm like, yeah,
- 40:58Speaker 2: what are we doing?
- 41:00Speaker 1: Yep, I do, But that's when you know, you.
- 41:03Speaker 2: Know what that means. It means we're gonna get there.
- 41:04Speaker 2: Hear our friend Kenny Albert. So there's that.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Plus, no, I wish Kenny Albert to be doing games
- 41:09Speaker 1: on ABC. I wish I just wish it was over.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I don't think being on cable helps any of these sports.
- 41:19Speaker 1: When it comes to these big, big events, you still
- 41:21Speaker 1: have to be you still. I know it's different. I
- 41:24Speaker 1: know everybody has streaming. I know a lot of people
- 41:27Speaker 1: cut the cord, but they could still get TNT through
- 41:30Speaker 1: various ways. But it's still different than when you're being
- 41:34Speaker 1: over the air TV. And I heard the difference when
- 41:36Speaker 1: TNT won the package from NBC. Wasn't that much money.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Sometimes these leagues got to take a little less money
- 41:43Speaker 1: for the benefit of the fans who watched the sport.
- 41:46Speaker 1: That's just my opinion.
- 41:49Speaker 2: And by the way, in the pre show, you're going
- 41:50Speaker 2: to see the man who was a net eleven eleven
- 41:53Speaker 2: years ago. Tonight, the Rangers were back in the Stanley
- 41:55Speaker 2: Cup for Game one against the Kings. I I will
- 42:00Speaker 2: never forget that pass by Girardi that was intercepted for
- 42:03Speaker 2: that guy. It sticks in my brain. But I remember
- 42:06Speaker 2: how excited the city was because it was twenty years
- 42:09Speaker 2: since the Rangers had been in the Cup.
- 42:10Speaker 1: At that point. Well and the Rangers. The Rangers lost
- 42:14Speaker 1: four games to one, but Alex but they played. They
- 42:17Speaker 1: they had a chance to win every one of those games.
- 42:19Speaker 2: They were in it the whole way and that was
- 42:22Speaker 2: a you know, a big credit because it wasn't Vigno
- 42:25Speaker 2: the coach at that point. Yes, yeah, that was big
- 42:29Speaker 2: credit to Vignolle, and I love Vino. It was such
- 42:31Speaker 2: a great that was it was one of the best
- 42:33Speaker 2: coaches in my lifetime with the Rangers. But you know,
- 42:37Speaker 2: we're gonna see it, and that reminds me. Both teams
- 42:40Speaker 2: are gonna have new coaches in in the fall, so
- 42:42Speaker 2: that should be interesting to watch.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Alex, it should be very interesting.
- 42:48Speaker 2: I can't say much more than that because we don't
- 42:50Speaker 2: know who the next coach is. And Mike Sulliman, we
- 42:51Speaker 2: gotta let him play out as a Ranger d coach.
- 42:54Speaker 2: I hate the speculation. We just gotta let him play out.
- 42:56Speaker 1: Louis absolutely, it's gonna be interesting in seat. Who is
- 43:01Speaker 1: no longer on this roster for the Rangers. No Crider.
- 43:08Speaker 1: I mean I would say that Sullivan becoming the Rangers
- 43:14Speaker 1: coach since they have that BBC connection, I think that
- 43:17Speaker 1: helps criyder. But the Rangers got improved. You know, we
- 43:22Speaker 1: know what the Range got. They got improved their team.
- 43:24Speaker 1: They obviously they got the goaltending, but they The fact
- 43:30Speaker 1: that the Rangers only finished a couple of points ahead
- 43:32Speaker 1: the Islands this year is just remarkable to me to
- 43:35Speaker 1: show you what a bad year that they had. But
- 43:38Speaker 1: that's all in the past. I look forward to twenty
- 43:41Speaker 1: five six.
- 43:42Speaker 2: And say, cool, it's finally warm out, so it's gonna
- 43:44Speaker 2: be a nice summer in the city and in New
- 43:47Speaker 2: Jersey where you're at. And we'll have another Terminila's take
- 43:50Speaker 2: next week for sure.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Thank you, Alex. Always a pleasure being with you.
- 43:55Speaker 2: And always gonna have new on the one like up Network.
- 43:58Speaker 2: Lou Terminello
