- 0:02Speaker 1: What's up everybody welcome into jfk book excuse me jfk
- 0:23Speaker 1: book reviews a division of the loom gum and podcast
- 0:28Speaker 1: i am big bad bobby a.k.a. Rob Clark, here for
- 0:34Speaker 1: another exciting edition, allegedly, of JFK Book Reviews. And today,
- 0:42Speaker 1: we will be reviewing the book Flashback, the untold story
- 0:48Speaker 1: of Lee Harvey Oswald by Ron Lewis. Ron Lewis, Flashback.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It's what.
- 1:04Speaker 1: We call slim thick around here. Flashback, The Untold Story
- 1:17Speaker 1: of Lee Harvey Oswald by Ron Lewis. This book was
- 1:24Speaker 1: published in 1993. 1993. It is 272 pages long. It
- 1:39Speaker 1: was published by Blue Heron Publishing out of Hillsboro, Oregon. Now,
- 1:45Speaker 1: even though it was published in 1993, allegedly, Ron Lewis
- 1:53Speaker 1: started writing this book in the 80s, the mid-80s, to
- 1:59Speaker 1: come out to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the
- 2:05Speaker 1: JFK assassination, which would be 1988. But couldn't find a publisher.
- 2:14Speaker 1: But word had gotten around through various sources to the...
- 2:21Speaker 1: I don't want to mess this up. To, I guess,
- 2:26Speaker 1: Larry Howard down there at the JFK Assassination Information Center
- 2:30Speaker 1: in Dallas. And at the time, of course, Oliver Stone
- 2:36Speaker 1: is filming his movie, JFK, and puts Oliver Stone in
- 2:43Speaker 1: touch with Ron Lewis, who allegedly had some inside information
- 2:48Speaker 1: about Lee Harvey Oswald. And like many of these folks,
- 2:57Speaker 1: was made a.
- 3:02Speaker 1: An inside source for the movie JFK. I forget the
- 3:08Speaker 1: word I'm looking for here. An advisor. That's what it is.
- 3:15Speaker 1: An advisor on the movie JFK. Which basically means that
- 3:22Speaker 1: he told Oliver Stone some stories. And a lot of
- 3:27Speaker 1: these stories are contained within this book Flashback. Now, if
- 3:37Speaker 1: you remember what was going on in the early 80s
- 3:41Speaker 1: and late 90s, I'm sorry, the late 80s and early 90s,
- 3:45Speaker 1: around Dallas you have a lot of these fantastical stories
- 3:51Speaker 1: coming about, including the Roscoe White story, James Files, and
- 4:01Speaker 1: Ron White's story just seemed to be a continuation of
- 4:08Speaker 1: some of that stuff. But before we get into the
- 4:16Speaker 1: book itself, let's hear from the man himself. Uh, and
- 4:23Speaker 1: this is a little snippet of a video that, uh,
- 4:28Speaker 1: was put out on CNN hosted by, uh, James Earl Jones.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And here we're going to see Ron Lewis beside Victor Marchetti,
- 4:41Speaker 1: the former CIA guy who put out a book, famously.
- 4:48Speaker 1: And we'll hear a little bit from the man himself
- 4:51Speaker 1: before we actually get into the book. It's always good
- 4:54Speaker 1: to set the table with a little context, if you will.
- 5:01Speaker 1: And since this is my own video, there shouldn't be
- 5:03Speaker 1: any problems, allegedly, with it. So, here we.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Go.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Hang on, let me make sure I share this with audio.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Let's try this again. Share with audio. Okay. Now we're
- 5:38Speaker 1: cooking with grease, people. Just beware. Don't get popped. Always
- 5:43Speaker 1: wear a shirt when you're frying things. You don't want
- 5:46Speaker 1: to get a grease pop on your nipple. It hurts
- 5:50Speaker 1: like hell. Here we go. Ron Lewis. Where is the
- 6:00Speaker 1: play button?
- 6:01Speaker 2: Oswald was a very mysterious person. To find out more
- 6:04Speaker 2: about him, we have asked Ron Lewis, a friend of Oswald's,
- 6:08Speaker 2: to join us. Oliver Stone, the director of the JFK movie,
- 6:12Speaker 2: told us about Ron in his book, Flashback, the untold
- 6:17Speaker 2: story of Lee Harvey Oswald. Marina Oswald confirmed to me
- 6:21Speaker 2: that Ron Lewis did exist, and she remembered him because
- 6:25Speaker 2: he bumped into her one day in New Orleans when
- 6:27Speaker 2: she followed Lee to work. Mr. Lewis, I understand that
- 6:34Speaker 2: you worked with Oswald in New Orleans.
- 6:36Speaker 3: We both worked for Guy Bannister, but he didn't pay us.
- 6:41Speaker 3: We got paid from another source.
- 6:43Speaker 2: Who was Guy Bannister?
- 6:46Speaker 3: He was the head of the Chicago office of the FBI,
- 6:52Speaker 3: and he also supplied guns for the Cuban refugees. And
- 7:01Speaker 3: Lee told me this was a CIA operation.
- 7:05Speaker 2: What did Oswald do for Guy Bannister?
- 7:08Speaker 3: He went on to college campuses and he gathered information
- 7:14Speaker 3: for the FBI. And he also recruited people to work
- 7:20Speaker 3: for Guy Bannister.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Did Oswald ever handle gun shipments at 544 Camp Street?
- 7:28Speaker 3: He brought in a shipment of ammunition. And part of
- 7:32Speaker 3: those were kept at 544 Camp Street. Part was taken
- 7:37Speaker 3: in a laundry truck to Lake Pontchartrain. I remember this
- 7:42Speaker 3: because the boxes were very heavy, and Lee was not
- 7:49Speaker 3: a muscular person, and he sometimes said he was going
- 7:52Speaker 3: to quit because of it.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Is it true that Oswald had worked with Jack Ruby
- 7:57Speaker 2: in New Orleans?
- 7:58Speaker 3: He told me that Jack Ruby drove the laundry truck.
- 8:02Speaker 2: The Warren Commission said that Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack
- 8:05Speaker 2: Ruby never knew each other. Are you saying that they
- 8:07Speaker 2: did know each other?
- 8:08Speaker 3: They knew each other very well.
- 8:10Speaker 2: That makes us wonder how much else in the Warren
- 8:14Speaker 2: Commission report regarding Oswald is incorrect.
- 8:18Speaker 1: All right. Imagine being able to build an app with
- 8:21Speaker 1: your name on it just by thinking about it. There
- 8:25Speaker 1: we go. So there you have it. You just get
- 8:29Speaker 1: a little tiny little snippet of Ron Lewis talking. And
- 8:37Speaker 1: I think that's important for context. When you can actually
- 8:40Speaker 1: see the person and hear them speak, see them speak.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I mean, he doesn't give away a lot there. Not
- 8:50Speaker 1: a man of many emotions, it doesn't appear. Doesn't appear
- 8:53Speaker 1: like he wanted to be on that show at all.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Quite frankly, but who knows? You know, this is one
- 9:04Speaker 1: of those books that I legitimately don't know what to
- 9:16Speaker 1: do with it. You know, the information contained therein, if
- 9:21Speaker 1: you will. You know, He makes a lot of claims
- 9:30Speaker 1: in this book.
- 9:32Speaker 3: And.
- 9:34Speaker 1: A lot of them are very fantastical.
- 9:38Speaker 3: As in....
- 9:40Speaker 1: You know... On the verge of unbelievable. But there is.
- 9:49Speaker 1: At least the only thing that I can see.
- 9:53Speaker 1: After reading this book... Really... Any corroboration... whatsoever is the
- 10:02Speaker 1: fact that that little clip that you saw from Oliver
- 10:05Speaker 1: Stone about allegedly Oliver Stone took Ron Lewis to go
- 10:13Speaker 1: meet Marina Oswald Marina Well, Ron tells a story about
- 10:23Speaker 1: Marina hunting down Oswald because he wasn't coming home or
- 10:31Speaker 1: something when he should have been. And supposedly Marina came
- 10:37Speaker 1: and found them as Ron and Lee were hanging out
- 10:42Speaker 1: at the Crescent City Garage. And apparently... Ron Lewis met
- 10:49Speaker 1: Marina briefly there as he was leaving before, you know,
- 10:54Speaker 1: Lee and Marina got into a fight about him not
- 10:56Speaker 1: coming home and her having to track him down and
- 10:58Speaker 1: all of this stuff. And supposedly, 25 years plus later,
- 11:06Speaker 1: Marina recognizes this man that she met very briefly. Again,
- 11:12Speaker 1: 25 years plus later. In 1963. So take that for
- 11:22Speaker 1: what you will. I mean. I don't know. It seems
- 11:30Speaker 1: a little sus to me. But again. A lot of
- 11:34Speaker 1: this story. Contained in this book. Seems a little sus
- 11:39Speaker 1: to me.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Now.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Supposedly.
- 11:45Speaker 1: Ron Lewis was a dishonorably discharged Marine Corps veteran, just
- 11:50Speaker 1: like Lee Harvey Oswald, who at the time was working
- 11:57Speaker 1: in Fort Worth in 1962 and was reading these articles
- 12:01Speaker 1: in the paper about this returning defector.
- 12:06Speaker 2: Right?
- 12:08Speaker 1: And apparently him and one of his buddies named Butch Stone...
- 12:16Speaker 1: no relation to Oliver, allegedly, went to visit and talk
- 12:24Speaker 1: to Lee Harvey Oswald when he was working at Leslie
- 12:27Speaker 1: Welding in the early fall, late summer of 1962. And
- 12:36Speaker 1: here they would become briefly friendly. And at this time,
- 12:45Speaker 1: Oswald became enamored with Ron Lewis's car, which was a
- 12:55Speaker 1: 1958 black Chevy Impala with a white stripe. He really
- 13:01Speaker 1: liked that car, allegedly. This will come into relevance a
- 13:10Speaker 1: little later, but.
- 13:13Speaker 1: After briefly meeting Lee Harvey Oswald in 1962, they would
- 13:18Speaker 1: go their separate ways. And then, eventually in 1963, Ron
- 13:25Speaker 1: Lewis would move to New Orleans. And happened to see
- 13:30Speaker 1: Lee Oswald on the street handing out leaflets. So he
- 13:35Speaker 1: went up and talked to him and said, Hey, remember me?
- 13:38Speaker 1: I met you over in Fort Worth. Blah, blah, blah.
- 13:43Speaker 1: And they struck their friendship up again in New Orleans. Allegedly. So,
- 13:48Speaker 1: you know, he's talking to Oswald, asking him what he's doing.
- 13:53Speaker 1: And Oswald explains to him about the Bannister operation. And
- 14:00Speaker 1: being an informant for the FBI. And, of course, the
- 14:03Speaker 1: Bannister operation being for the CIA. Meeting folks like David
- 14:09Speaker 1: Ferry and Clay Shaw. Things of this nature. And supposedly
- 14:17Speaker 1: Lee gets Ron Lewis on at Bannister's office doing a
- 14:27Speaker 1: little bit of work for him. Now, let's take a
- 14:37Speaker 1: look at some of the other allegations in this book. So,
- 14:52Speaker 1: over the course of the summer in 1963, Ron learned
- 14:57Speaker 1: a lot about Lee Harvey Oswald and the life that
- 14:59Speaker 1: Lee had been keeping secret from Marina, including a young
- 15:06Speaker 1: girl on the side. allegedly, although Ron Lewis didn't name
- 15:14Speaker 1: her and never met her personally, of course, of course,
- 15:22Speaker 1: Judith very Baker would insert herself into the Ron Lewis story.
- 15:31Speaker 1: That was me. That was me. Uh, Again, take this
- 15:40Speaker 1: for what you will. Ron did meet David Ferry and
- 15:43Speaker 1: Guy Bannister once, he says. He worked for Guy Bannister
- 15:48Speaker 1: through Lee Harvey Oswald on a project to keep tabs
- 15:50Speaker 1: on the political campaigns of Russell Long and his family.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Once at Guy Bannister's offices, Lee showed Ron a cache
- 15:58Speaker 1: of illegal arms and explosives that Bannister and Ferry were
- 16:01Speaker 1: accumulating on behalf of the Cuban exile revolutionary groups in
- 16:06Speaker 1: New Orleans. Ron and Lee remained fairly close during the
- 16:10Speaker 1: summer of 1963, meeting each other in the mornings as
- 16:14Speaker 1: Ron would walk to work and sharing stories about the Marines, politics,
- 16:18Speaker 1: and guns, which were allegedly Lee's favorite topics. Throughout much
- 16:25Speaker 1: of the summer of 1963, Ron Lewis believed that Oswald
- 16:29Speaker 1: was a left-wing activist. However, by the closing weeks of
- 16:33Speaker 1: the summer, Oswald appeared to Lewis to have changed into
- 16:36Speaker 1: a right-wing activist. And this was puzzling to Ron. Ron
- 16:42Speaker 1: was especially puzzled in August 1963 when he saw Oswald
- 16:45Speaker 1: carrying his rifle in a bulky bag to a Russell
- 16:49Speaker 1: Long speech. He could hardly understand Lee's reasoning during this period.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Now this is a not known allegation. So we all
- 17:07Speaker 1: know about the Walker allegations of Oswald taking a shot
- 17:09Speaker 1: at him. In the Ron Lewis book, we also have
- 17:13Speaker 1: an almost assassination of Russell Long by Lee Harvey Oswald.
- 17:22Speaker 1: But he got cold feet, allegedly. Supposedly, Lee... came to
- 17:36Speaker 1: Ron with the idea of hijacking a plane to Cuba
- 17:42Speaker 1: and getting Ron to help him. When Ron pressed Lee,
- 17:51Speaker 1: he learned that Bannister had discovered that Lee was the
- 17:53Speaker 1: shooter at resigned General Edwin Walker's house on April 10th,
- 17:59Speaker 1: and Bannister was using this information to blackmail Oswald to
- 18:02Speaker 1: do anything Bannister demanded. Now back to the car, 1958.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Black Chevy Impala with a white stripe. Allegedly, Ron Lewis
- 18:19Speaker 1: says that he let Oswald borrow his car once. And
- 18:26Speaker 1: it happened to be on April the 10th, 1963. And
- 18:30Speaker 1: that an eyewitness had placed his car, his vehicle, described it, uh,
- 18:38Speaker 1: at the scene of the General Walker shooting the night
- 18:40Speaker 1: of April 10th, 1963. Interesting. Ron claims that after Lee
- 18:52Speaker 1: moved to Dallas, he still saw Lee one more time
- 18:55Speaker 1: in New Orleans. Now remember, once Oswald comes back from
- 19:01Speaker 1: Mexico at the beginning of October, Supposedly, he never went
- 19:07Speaker 1: back to New Orleans that we know about. Because he
- 19:12Speaker 1: was working at the school book depository. Unless he went
- 19:15Speaker 1: on the weekend. It's unclear. Because he doesn't give a date.
- 19:28Speaker 1: But on that occasion, Lee told Ron some vague details
- 19:32Speaker 1: about his trip to Mexico and about Bannister's plans. to
- 19:36Speaker 1: use Roscoe White to murder JFK in Dallas. Here we go.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Here we go. Lee also warned Ron in very callous
- 19:53Speaker 1: terms to keep all this information secret. But Lee was
- 19:57Speaker 1: so callous about it that Ron was glad to be
- 19:59Speaker 1: rid of Lee at last. Ron says he would have
- 20:03Speaker 1: forgotten all about Lee, except the world went nuts after
- 20:05Speaker 1: JFK was murdered. And that's the basic story in a nutshell.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Some writers have found Ron Lewis to be believable. Others,
- 20:16Speaker 1: not so much. So, where does the truth lie, folks?
- 20:26Speaker 1: I mean, there's some interesting things in this book. Including this. Again,
- 20:39Speaker 1: this is from When He Met Marina. Eventually, Marina became
- 20:42Speaker 1: suspicious and decided to check up on him. She had
- 20:45Speaker 1: apparently chosen to do this at the time Lee and
- 20:48Speaker 1: I were in the Crescent City garage holding our morning discussion.
- 20:52Speaker 1: When he arrived, he seemed excited and out of breath.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Marina's going to be out front, he exclaimed. How do
- 20:58Speaker 1: you know she's going to be out there, I asked.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Because she's shadowing me this morning, he replied. I've already
- 21:05Speaker 1: spotted her. Lee kept glancing at his watch nervously. Suddenly,
- 21:09Speaker 1: he jumped up and exclaimed, She's out there now. I
- 21:12Speaker 1: gotta go. Tell her you haven't seen me. But I
- 21:15Speaker 1: don't speak Russian, I told him. She knows more English
- 21:20Speaker 1: than you think, he yelled hurriedly toward the back door
- 21:25Speaker 1: of the garage. I wondered how he knew Marina was
- 21:29Speaker 1: out there, but I figured he'd already timed her, you know,
- 21:32Speaker 1: because he's like a super spy and noticed tails and
- 21:36Speaker 1: all this stuff. I hurried out the front door. where
- 21:40Speaker 1: it seemed bright in contrast to the interior of the garage.
- 21:44Speaker 1: In the process, I stumbled into a baby stroller on
- 21:46Speaker 1: the sidewalk. I looked, and there was Marina, big as life,
- 21:51Speaker 1: pushing Junie. To the best of my recollection, I apologized
- 21:55Speaker 1: and said, Oh, excuse me. We looked at each other
- 21:59Speaker 1: with full eye contact as I slowly walked past her.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Then she turned directly facing me as I looked back
- 22:05Speaker 1: before disappearing from her sight. In 1990, while accompanied by
- 22:09Speaker 1: Larry Howard and his wife, Daryl, I visited Marina at
- 22:13Speaker 1: her home in Rockwall, Texas, and I asked about our
- 22:16Speaker 1: close encounter that day in front of the Crescent City Garage.
- 22:20Speaker 1: It's true, I was there that morning, she told me,
- 22:22Speaker 1: confirming the incident, but I never told anyone about it,
- 22:25Speaker 1: not even Lee. So, again, make of it what you will.
- 22:32Speaker 1: I don't know how you could remember Lee. A very
- 22:36Speaker 1: brief chance encounter on the street. Almost 30 years after
- 22:41Speaker 1: it happened. At a time when things were inconsequential. You know,
- 22:48Speaker 1: of course, the assassination hadn't happened yet. I don't know. Again,
- 22:54Speaker 1: this book.
- 22:58Speaker 1: It will make you go, hmm. And then it will
- 23:01Speaker 1: make you go, ahhh! All in the same paragraph. Like,
- 23:09Speaker 1: I just don't know. So, another passage from the book.
- 23:21Speaker 1: When Lee left New Orleans on September 25th, he told
- 23:24Speaker 1: me that he would have a new contact in Dallas,
- 23:28Speaker 1: a man named Jack Ruby. Lee didn't tell me he
- 23:36Speaker 1: was going to Mexico, so I thought he was going
- 23:38Speaker 1: straight to Dallas. My last visit with Lee was on
- 23:42Speaker 1: October 11th, eight days after he had returned to Dallas
- 23:45Speaker 1: from Mexico. He met his new contact, Jack Ruby, as scheduled,
- 23:50Speaker 1: and Ruby was to help him get a job in
- 23:51Speaker 1: Dallas as well as aiding him in other areas, such
- 23:55Speaker 1: as finding a place to stay and introducing him to
- 23:57Speaker 1: new friends. Incidentally, the situation with Ruby was much the
- 24:02Speaker 1: same as it was with DeMoren Shield. A.K.A. a babysitter.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I don't know. I just don't know. Now, apparently, over
- 24:24Speaker 1: here to my right, left, whatever it is, is the
- 24:30Speaker 1: back of a VHS cassette tape. From a 1995 sit down. Interview.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Done with Ron Lewis. Where he goes into a much.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Deeper version of this. With interviewer named Henry Cruter. I
- 24:57Speaker 1: cannot find it anywhere on the interwebs.
- 25:03Speaker 2: But.
- 25:04Speaker 1: Allegedly, it exists. Somewhere out there. So if anybody has
- 25:10Speaker 1: access to this thing, I'd like to see it. I'd
- 25:15Speaker 1: like to hear more of what he has to say.
- 25:16Speaker 1: And in fact, in the Marchetti and Ron Lewis video
- 25:20Speaker 1: that I showed you guys on my channel from many
- 25:24Speaker 1: moons ago, his son, Ron Lewis' son, Kenneth, actually commented
- 25:32Speaker 1: on it and said, that's my daddy. He commented that
- 25:39Speaker 1: like 11 years ago and then again a year ago. So, man,
- 25:50Speaker 1: you know, it's one of those things where you have
- 25:57Speaker 1: somebody with an Oswald story A very interesting Oswald story,
- 26:07Speaker 1: but there's absolutely zero, nil, zilch, nada, anything about this
- 26:16Speaker 1: dude in the JFK documents under the name Ron Lewis
- 26:22Speaker 1: or the name Ron Larson or the name Kenneth Mason.
- 26:30Speaker 1: He had a lot of aliases because he was allegedly
- 26:33Speaker 1: on the run from the FBI at the time. But
- 26:40Speaker 1: yet none of these names come up in any of
- 26:44Speaker 1: the JFK documentation from the CIA, from the FBI, from
- 26:51Speaker 1: the DPD, from the NOPD. Nothing.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Nothing.
- 26:57Speaker 1: There is absolutely nothing. Now, we do have a different
- 27:00Speaker 1: person named David Lewis, who did have connections with Bannister
- 27:05Speaker 1: and Jack Martin, and does appear in some New Orleans-related files.
- 27:11Speaker 1: And I find it hard to believe, much like I
- 27:16Speaker 1: do with Judith Vary Baker, as intensive as an investigation
- 27:23Speaker 1: that Jim Garrison put on in New Orleans... that these
- 27:29Speaker 1: two folks somehow managed to avoid detection from Jim Garrison's reach.
- 27:43Speaker 1: I find that hard to believe. I really, really do.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And again, this guy didn't come up in any FBI documents.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Nothing like that. So we only really have his word
- 28:03Speaker 1: to go on. And take that for what you will.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Do with it what you will. It's an interesting book.
- 28:14Speaker 1: It presents a story of Lee Harvey Oswald from allegedly
- 28:20Speaker 1: one man's view of having met him and spent time
- 28:23Speaker 1: with him over the course of roughly a little over
- 28:27Speaker 1: a year. Before the assassination. And of course. Supposedly he says.
- 28:34Speaker 1: He started keeping a diary in 1962. And after the assassination.
- 28:38Speaker 1: He moved back to Texas. And immediately burned the portions
- 28:42Speaker 1: of the diary. That related to Lee Harvey Oswald. Of
- 28:46Speaker 1: course he says. He didn't speak or say anything. Over
- 28:49Speaker 1: the years. Because he was afraid that he would be killed.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Blah blah blah blah blah. The usual excuse.
- 28:56Speaker 2: So.
- 28:57Speaker 1: Again, I don't know what to do with this book. It's...
- 29:03Speaker 1: It's an interesting read. Again, it's just stories. We don't
- 29:12Speaker 1: have any actual factual basis to back up anything that
- 29:16Speaker 1: Ron Lewis says. So take that for what you will.
- 29:22Speaker 1: I don't know what to make of people like this.
- 29:25Speaker 1: I mean, I know what my initial... Instincts are. So
- 29:31Speaker 1: with that being said, let's get to the rating. For
- 29:44Speaker 1: what it is, I will say a collection of stories, allegedly, possibly,
- 29:54Speaker 1: about Lee Harvey Oswald prior to the assassination. And for
- 30:05Speaker 1: what it could be, being an insider's look into the
- 30:15Speaker 1: mind of Lee Harvey Oswald, revealing revelations from behind the
- 30:21Speaker 1: curtain about who Oswald was, what he was doing, and
