- Ben: Morning and welcome to your short-term rental bulletin on the 7th of September. So, England short let register finally has a date. Lisa Nandy told the Commons on Thursday it will be up and running in full by March, obviously meaning March 2027. It's the first month ministers have given. So in February, the department said the scheme was in user testing for a launch later in 2026. Now the Secretary of State says the new Prime Minister asked her in his first week to accelerate the work, and the answer is end of March. Whether anything actually goes live before then she didn't say, and nobody mentioned the secondary legislation that the department said in February it would need. What we know is the shape. Mandatory, online, and built to give councils the say they don't currently have. And the question came from Joe Powell, the MP for Kensington and Bayswater, who said that his borough still cannot identify where its shortlets are or enforce the London 90-day cap. In the same session, the tourism minister confirmed that the government is developing an overnight visitor levy power for England to be used by local areas that choose to. So that completes the UK map. Scotland has licensed since 2022, Northern Ireland certifies Wales, opens its visitor accommodation register next month with a deadline of the end of March 2027. And now we know that England lands in the same month. And on Wednesday, Brussels goes further. So the Commission presents its Affordable Housing Act and the draft Reuters has seen sets out which city restricts short-term rentals, preferring caps And grandfathering to bands. Registration isn't registration, but the data restriction runs on. Get your unit list, planning permission, and 90-day record straight before March. March 2027 is when England starts counting. Have your numbers ready first. Thank you so much for watching, and I'll see you tomorrow.
