- 0:08Speaker 1: This is Fred Decker, director of the Monster Squad, and
- 0:10Speaker 1: you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Powered nuclear reactor pumping out 1 million kilowatts of power.
- 1:08Speaker 3: Why can't we go backwards for once?
- 1:17Speaker 4: Backwards. Really fast. Fast as we can. Really put the
- 1:22Speaker 4: pedal to the metal, you know? Bill and Ted did it.
- 1:36Speaker 4: What's up, and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 1:38Speaker 5: I'm Nora.
- 1:39Speaker 4: I'm Ben.
- 1:40Speaker 6: I'm Phillip.
- 1:41Speaker 4: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from
- 1:43Speaker 4: the Oddity Studios, where it's a very lovely day today.
- 1:47Speaker 4: You can't tell. I try to make this as much
- 1:49Speaker 4: of a compound and the bunker that I want the
- 1:52Speaker 4: Oddity Studios to be, but it's surprisingly nice today. So,
- 1:57Speaker 4: it's a good week for a geek week. We haven't
- 2:01Speaker 4: done a full on... We usually intro with it, but
- 2:03Speaker 4: I figure... With all of us here, we've got enough.
- 2:07Speaker 4: We can just go to town. So, who wants to
- 2:11Speaker 4: kick it off? I can tell you what I watched last.
- 2:15Speaker 7: I can start with a good, not a recent movie,
- 2:20Speaker 7: but a nice rewatch.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Rewatches definitely count.
- 2:23Speaker 7: Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.
- 2:26Speaker 8: Nice.
- 2:28Speaker 7: Which I thought, it's been a long time since I've
- 2:31Speaker 7: seen that movie, but it still rules. It's so good.
- 2:38Speaker 7: And we started watching the second one because we got
- 2:41Speaker 7: so amped up. And the second one is even better
- 2:46Speaker 7: than the first one.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Oh, that's what I was going to ask because there's
- 2:49Speaker 4: only kind of two roads there. I never know how
- 2:52Speaker 4: people are going to take that second one, myself included.
- 2:55Speaker 4: I remember being kind of let down because it's kind
- 2:59Speaker 4: of hard to compete with that first one. It's been
- 3:02Speaker 4: a long time since I've watched it. To me, the
- 3:04Speaker 4: only thing that really made the second one is death.
- 3:07Speaker 4: William Sandler's amazing. So the death character is amazing, but.
- 3:13Speaker 7: It's weirdly more academic.
- 3:15Speaker 9: It's like.
- 3:16Speaker 7: So, like, it just references itself all the time. And, like,
- 3:20Speaker 7: it just knows how stupid it is and just keeps
- 3:23Speaker 7: riffing on it.
- 3:23Speaker 6: It's great.
- 3:24Speaker 10: It revels in its own stupidity.
- 3:26Speaker 4: Yeah, it does it so well.
- 3:27Speaker 10: But the level of stupidity is brilliant.
- 3:29Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 3:30Speaker 10: Like the scene where they're playing games with death.
- 3:33Speaker 12: Yes.
- 3:33Speaker 4: That part's pretty awesome. Again, it's like, I think the
- 3:36Speaker 4: turning point is the aliens for me. Station is weird. Yeah.
- 3:41Speaker 4: In a way that I'm just like... This isn't so
- 3:44Speaker 4: crazy it's brilliant. It's just so crazy. How did you
- 3:47Speaker 4: get a studio to let you make this? Like, it's weird.
- 3:51Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 3:52Speaker 4: It's weird. In the robot building. It's ridiculous on a
- 3:58Speaker 4: different level for me. But again, it's been a while.
- 4:00Speaker 4: I guess I should revisit it.
- 4:03Speaker 7: It weirdly felt like to me like that Brian DePaul movie,
- 4:07Speaker 7: Phantom of the Paradise. Weirdly, like it just kind of
- 4:10Speaker 7: had that weird like manic... like cocaine energy.
- 4:15Speaker 6: I don't know how to describe.
- 4:17Speaker 7: It, but it like had me on that level.
- 4:20Speaker 6: And the first one, which is still great.
- 4:23Speaker 7: It's like, you know, it's pretty straightforward about just the
- 4:28Speaker 7: premise and that's basically it. It's like, oh yeah, they
- 4:31Speaker 7: get to hang out with all these historical figures and
- 4:34Speaker 7: joke around with their name pronunciation. Well, I was going
- 4:37Speaker 7: to say, that's the ongoing thing.
- 4:40Speaker 4: It's rare that I'll ever refer to the man as
- 4:43Speaker 4: anything other than Socrates. Socrates. And if you get it,
- 4:46Speaker 4: you're cool. And other people are just like, what are you,
- 4:49Speaker 4: an idiot? I'm like, well, yes, but that's not the point.
- 4:51Speaker 4: I'm referencing Bill and Ted. So, or Miss.
- 4:54Speaker 9: Mr.
- 4:55Speaker 4: Wild Bill or whatever. Mr.
- 4:57Speaker 10: Billy the Kid.
- 4:58Speaker 8: Mr.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Billy the Kid. Mr.
- 4:59Speaker 9: The Kid.
- 5:00Speaker 11: Mr.
- 5:00Speaker 5: The Kid.
- 5:02Speaker 4: Oh, my God. That's, yeah, everything about the dealing with
- 5:06Speaker 4: the people is just so damn funny. Yeah. So what
- 5:11Speaker 4: led you to that? Had it just been, like, looming?
- 5:15Speaker 7: Just, you know, the old traditional just scrolling through all
- 5:18Speaker 7: the streaming apps until hopefully, like, a nostalgic... gym, uh,
- 5:23Speaker 7: like from my childhood that I know is good that
- 5:26Speaker 7: I can rely on. So yeah, we just watched it and, uh,
- 5:32Speaker 7: my girlfriend hadn't seen it before. She's like, that was great.
- 5:34Speaker 7: And I was like, they made another one. She's like, what,
- 5:37Speaker 7: why would they do that? I'm like, I don't know,
- 5:39Speaker 7: but they did.
- 5:39Speaker 6: And it's awesome. And yeah, it just, it was just great.
- 5:44Speaker 7: Cause it was just reminded me of like when movies
- 5:46Speaker 7: didn't necessarily have to bum me out all the time,
- 5:50Speaker 7: you know, like, I don't know.
- 5:52Speaker 6: It's just.
- 5:54Speaker 10: Well, I watched it a couple of years ago for
- 5:56Speaker 10: the first time in forever, and I was, I guess,
- 6:00Speaker 10: happy to see that there's no subtext, no plot, no
- 6:05Speaker 10: secondary plot. It's just these guys have to pass history class,
- 6:09Speaker 10: and this is how they're going to do it. There's
- 6:11Speaker 10: no bad guys they're fighting against. It's just great. And
- 6:15Speaker 10: it flies by really quickly.
- 6:17Speaker 6: It really does.
- 6:18Speaker 4: Like.
- 6:20Speaker 7: I like how the second time it shows them going
- 6:25Speaker 7: through time to all these different periods, they just.
- 6:28Speaker 6: They just basically do it through a quick music montage.
- 6:30Speaker 6: It's like, we already did that.
- 6:31Speaker 7: We're just going to play some Van Halen or something
- 6:34Speaker 7: and just show all these people in the costumes and
- 6:36Speaker 7: get to the point.
- 6:37Speaker 4: You guys know what this is going to be like.
- 6:39Speaker 6: Yeah, we got Abraham Lincoln. Okay, we know what it is.
- 6:41Speaker 4: Just watch us grab him and then pull him up on.
- 6:44Speaker 10: Just zoink.
- 6:45Speaker 4: And then they're like, just fly. I like when they're
- 6:47Speaker 4: hanging out of the phone booth or something. If there
- 6:50Speaker 4: were laws of time and space, you're breaking them right now.
- 6:53Speaker 4: But who cares? Right. And thus proving George Carlin is
- 6:56Speaker 4: the coolest person ever. Of all time, obviously. Of all times.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Strange things are afoot at the Circle K.
- 7:05Speaker 10: Great line.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Again, one I use regularly.
- 7:09Speaker 10: Every time I see a Circle K.
- 7:11Speaker 4: Mine now is carried over. It doesn't even have to
- 7:13Speaker 4: be any random quickie mart. It's anything weird going on
- 7:17Speaker 4: in life. I'm like, strange things are afoot at the
- 7:19Speaker 4: Circle K. Exactly. Yeah, it's worked its way into my
- 7:23Speaker 4: life on so many levels.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Timeless.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Ironically.
- 7:31Speaker 7: But yeah, that was definitely the best movie I saw
- 7:36Speaker 7: this week.
- 7:37Speaker 6: I did see a really good.
- 7:38Speaker 7: New movie too, but man, it was just good seeing
- 7:42Speaker 7: Bill and Ted again.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Classics.
- 7:44Speaker 2: Love it.
- 7:46Speaker 4: Well, I did see new to... I guess Blu-ray stream.
- 7:52Speaker 4: I don't know. I don't think it's streaming yet. And
- 7:54Speaker 4: it's one I kind of thought about going to see
- 7:57Speaker 4: in the theater and just kind of put it off.
- 7:58Speaker 4: And then, you know, two weeks later, it's gone and
- 8:00Speaker 4: already on Blu-ray usually. So it doesn't take long to
- 8:03Speaker 4: miss that window. But I heard nothing but bad things.
- 8:07Speaker 4: But I finally watched The Predator.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Have you any?
- 8:12Speaker 4: Again, nobody saw it when it was in the theater.
- 8:14Speaker 5: It did not do well.
- 8:15Speaker 7: I really, really wanted to see it. I remember the
- 8:17Speaker 7: trailers amping me up. I was like, oh, Shane Black,
- 8:19Speaker 7: he's awesome. Maybe they'll make a cool Predator movie that's
- 8:23Speaker 7: not just stupid, but at least it knows it's stupid
- 8:26Speaker 7: and is smart about it like Bill and Ted. But
- 8:29Speaker 7: then a number of things. I just read early reviews
- 8:33Speaker 7: and stuff, and then the whole controversy was like, ugh.
- 8:37Speaker 6: Pass i don't.
- 8:38Speaker 4: Know like which was their kind i'm trying to decide
- 8:41Speaker 4: if i already forgot about like actual sexual predator yeah
- 8:44Speaker 4: like oh that okay which i mean that had nothing
- 8:48Speaker 4: to do with their making the movie that just happens
- 8:51Speaker 4: because there's a billion real predators in our lives.
- 8:54Speaker 7: I guess that kind of just like sadly yeah that
- 8:57Speaker 7: kind of buried it and i kind of forgot about
- 8:59Speaker 7: it and then like i've since heard that you know
- 9:02Speaker 7: it wasn't that bad like it It was a disappointing
- 9:06Speaker 7: Shane Black movie, but they say it was still like
- 9:08Speaker 7: a Shane Black movie, which.
- 9:11Speaker 2: See, I.
- 9:11Speaker 6: I mean, if whatever that is, I guess I don't
- 9:13Speaker 6: even know.
- 9:14Speaker 4: I'm going the other way. Like, I sat there the
- 9:16Speaker 4: whole time going, you guys are stupid. But again, like,
- 9:21Speaker 4: in that way, like, it's much like the last... Like,
- 9:24Speaker 4: it knows the kind of movie it is and doesn't
- 9:27Speaker 4: give a shit. And, like, I think this one... Because Predators,
- 9:32Speaker 4: the previous entry... was so super serious about it you
- 9:36Speaker 4: know and it's like i mean even the first one
- 9:40Speaker 4: don't get me wrong it's it's game changing in the
- 9:42Speaker 4: action genre but it's still ridiculous like it's a ridiculous
- 9:47Speaker 4: premise more or less assuming you're okay with you know
- 9:50Speaker 4: that there's life out there and that then we would
- 9:52Speaker 4: have big game hunters but i mean all that aside
- 9:56Speaker 4: that first one works since then they've been fighting to
- 10:00Speaker 4: try to get back to that level this one i
- 10:03Speaker 4: think what helps is it's not just shane black um
- 10:07Speaker 4: and previous guest of the show fred decker co-wrote it
- 10:10Speaker 4: also previously mentioned on that hours of monster squad talk
- 10:13Speaker 4: we had but um yeah, it's, it's, you know, the
- 10:16Speaker 4: guy he's been working with since he started almost came
- 10:19Speaker 4: back and was his co-writer on this one. And it
- 10:22Speaker 4: really does feel like they're 12 and like, Hey, what
- 10:25Speaker 4: if we got to make a predator movie? So all
- 10:28Speaker 4: of this done. And I, I kind of liked that.
- 10:30Speaker 4: It also like, wasn't cause even the last one tried
- 10:32Speaker 4: to be like, okay, all the action and everything that
- 10:35Speaker 4: goes on is going to be in the jungle. Like
- 10:38Speaker 4: this one immediately skips to like modern day cities, neighborhoods,
- 10:43Speaker 4: like it's in people's houses. Like, It's a totally different
- 10:47Speaker 4: setting that makes it kind of fun and different. It's
- 10:49Speaker 4: not just trying to rehash crap we've already seen, mostly
- 10:53Speaker 4: from that first movie. So it still kind of takes
- 10:55Speaker 4: that premise that we know so well from the first
- 10:58Speaker 4: one and whatever has been built. They at least acknowledge
- 11:01Speaker 4: one and two. I don't feel like they reference much
- 11:04Speaker 4: in that Predators, even though isn't that where they started
- 11:07Speaker 4: Predator dogs? Because there are Predator dogs.
- 11:09Speaker 2: In this movie.
- 11:10Speaker 4: And kind of maybe the best thing in it, giant
- 11:13Speaker 4: dogs that look like Predators are the most fun thing
- 11:16Speaker 4: ever so including yes it has dreads it's a dog
- 11:19Speaker 4: with dreads and it really feels like that should cross
- 11:23Speaker 4: the line but yeah i know i but the damn
- 11:27Speaker 4: it like it kind of works eventually and i'm like
- 11:31Speaker 4: this is what i'm saying like this is a 12
- 11:33Speaker 4: year old's brain going what if there was like a
- 11:35Speaker 4: big dog that looked like a predator and like so
- 11:38Speaker 4: there is and like everything going on in this is
- 11:40Speaker 4: like the most awesome thing any dumb 12 year old
- 11:43Speaker 4: could come up with. And I'm like, and they gave
- 11:46Speaker 4: it a giant budget and the effects look great. And the,
- 11:49Speaker 4: the predator looks good again. Now they've gone to where
- 11:52Speaker 4: it's not. It is actual physical on one big dude
- 11:56Speaker 4: that they strapped the suit on and very little seem CG.
- 12:00Speaker 4: So it's actually physically there and makes for an awesome movie.
- 12:05Speaker 4: So again, I, is it anything less than ridiculous?
- 12:09Speaker 13: Hell no.
- 12:10Speaker 4: But is it fun the whole way through? It's pretty
- 12:13Speaker 4: damn fun.
- 12:13Speaker 10: I think you have to allow for some ridiculousness.
- 12:15Speaker 4: I mean, especially in something like this.
- 12:17Speaker 10: I mean, any sort of alien movie.
- 12:18Speaker 4: Predator version, yeah. So yeah, if you like any of
- 12:23Speaker 4: the Predator movies, certainly, again, most people at least like
- 12:27Speaker 4: the first one. So it's worth watching. Again, it's too
- 12:31Speaker 4: late to support it in the theater, but you can
- 12:33Speaker 4: sit at home and watch it. It's fun. So I
- 12:37Speaker 4: had fun with the Predator.
- 12:40Speaker 10: I recently watched a show on Netflix. I binge-watched the
- 12:44Speaker 10: whole series or season or whatever. It's called Dairy Girls.
- 12:48Speaker 4: I don't know if anybody's... I wanted to watch that.
- 12:51Speaker 10: It's very good. It's a, I guess, sitcom about four
- 12:55Speaker 10: or five girls living in a town called Dairy in
- 12:59Speaker 10: Ireland during the early to mid-90s. They never really pinpoint
- 13:03Speaker 10: exactly when it is, but they make cultural references to
- 13:06Speaker 10: the cranberries and Pulp Fiction and A very funny show
- 13:11Speaker 10: about growing up as a teenager, but it also deals
- 13:13Speaker 10: with the IRA and that whole conflict that was going on.
- 13:18Speaker 4: At the time. It's best to not pin down the
- 13:21Speaker 4: exact year because then nerds just nitpick.
- 13:23Speaker 12: Right.
- 13:23Speaker 4: That's like the smartest thing they did with the Goldbergs.
- 13:28Speaker 4: It was 1980-something. I don't know. It's all memory-based, so
- 13:31Speaker 4: every time you reference it, I'm like, wasn't that like 1990? Oh,
- 13:34Speaker 4: that's right.
- 13:35Speaker 3: It's memory. Who gives a shit?
- 13:36Speaker 4: Yeah. it keeps geeks from being nitpicky. So, but what
- 13:42Speaker 4: all is it just their lives or what all does
- 13:45Speaker 4: it kind of spill out?
- 13:46Speaker 10: It's, you know, growing up as a, you know, the
- 13:49Speaker 10: typical outsider teenage sort of dealing with all that, but
- 13:52Speaker 10: at the same time, and they, they don't, they don't
- 13:55Speaker 10: get too heavy with it, but they pepper in different
- 13:57Speaker 10: events that happen, like different bombings and different riots.
- 14:01Speaker 4: And so like, It does cross over into the pretty
- 14:04Speaker 4: heavy social issues.
- 14:05Speaker 10: It does cross over into it. It reminds you that, oh, yeah,
- 14:08Speaker 10: this was a thing that these people had to deal with.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Thank God we've all made peace now. Everything's fine with
- 14:17Speaker 4: the world.
- 14:18Speaker 10: Everything is A-okay.
- 14:22Speaker 4: But, you know, cranberries.
- 14:24Speaker 12: Yeah, cranberries.
- 14:24Speaker 7: That's cool.
- 14:27Speaker 8: Also on Netflix, I watched the new Black Mirror Bandersnatch.
- 14:32Speaker 5: I've heard really good things. It was so cool.
- 14:37Speaker 4: It's really cool.
- 14:38Speaker 10: How does it work?
- 14:39Speaker 8: It works on your remote, so they'll be this scene,
- 14:43Speaker 8: and then they kind of present you with this choice
- 14:45Speaker 8: in some way or another, and this little bar pops
- 14:48Speaker 8: up on the bottom that has the different choices, and
- 14:50Speaker 8: you can pick either one, and then it goes different ways.
- 14:53Speaker 8: And some of them... we'll end it and then it
- 14:56Speaker 8: takes you back to like the last checkpoint sort of thing.
- 14:58Speaker 8: So you don't start all the way.
- 15:00Speaker 4: Over, but you can go back and pick.
- 15:02Speaker 5: The different choice.
- 15:03Speaker 8: And so, I mean, if you probably just do it
- 15:05Speaker 8: like once through, it's probably like an hour, an hour
- 15:09Speaker 8: and a half, but we ended up doing like three
- 15:11Speaker 8: hours worth because we just kept going back to like
- 15:13Speaker 8: all the different choices that you could make. And it's really,
- 15:16Speaker 8: I mean, the whole like premise of it is this
- 15:18Speaker 8: kid is trying to make a video game based on
- 15:20Speaker 8: a choose your own adventure book. And so he has
- 15:24Speaker 8: this wall that's covered in all these different choices and
- 15:27Speaker 8: how they all branch out. And that's how I felt
- 15:29Speaker 8: watching it. Because you're like, wait, so if you pick this,
- 15:32Speaker 8: then that'll unlock that option. But if you pick the
- 15:35Speaker 8: other thing, then that won't be there and it'll be
- 15:36Speaker 8: these two. It's super complicated and very impressive and really cool.
- 15:41Speaker 5: It was fun.
- 15:42Speaker 4: I feel like also equally has to be that complicated
- 15:45Speaker 4: for some idiot at Netflix. It's just like, okay, wait,
- 15:48Speaker 4: I have to upload like 48 videos Things to make
- 15:53Speaker 4: this one movie work is what you're telling me?
- 15:55Speaker 8: I could see how actually making it would be a
- 15:57Speaker 8: similar sort of crazy making process. But it was really cool.
- 16:02Speaker 8: And it gets kind of meta into you're controlling this
- 16:05Speaker 8: dude's thoughts and actions.
- 16:07Speaker 5: And he calls you out and is like, who's doing this?
- 16:10Speaker 4: And you have to say. It's me.
- 16:13Speaker 5: And it kind of makes you feel bad for a second.
- 16:15Speaker 4: You were yelling at the TV, weren't you?
- 16:18Speaker 8: Some of the endings are pretty lighthearted and one's even
- 16:21Speaker 8: kind of goofy and then others are totally brutal and
- 16:24Speaker 8: dark and black mirror. It's really fun. Everybody go do it.
- 16:29Speaker 8: It was worth the investment of time.
- 16:31Speaker 4: I do like that you did it the way you're
- 16:33Speaker 4: supposed to do it and the way we all learn
- 16:34Speaker 4: to read choose your own adventure which is you don't
- 16:37Speaker 4: let go of that last page when you flip there
- 16:40Speaker 4: and go the end you're like damn it all right
- 16:42Speaker 4: i'll finish this page and then back up and see
- 16:44Speaker 4: what really happens yeah when i don't make a dumb
- 16:46Speaker 4: choice yeah.
- 16:47Speaker 10: Did you ever in choose your own adventure books did
- 16:49Speaker 10: you ever find like a really interesting passage and then
- 16:52Speaker 10: you could never figure out how to actually get to that.
- 16:55Speaker 4: One yeah it's like i want to see what.
- 16:57Speaker 10: Leads to this and you never you just.
- 17:00Speaker 6: No I don't think I've ever read one of those.
- 17:04Speaker 10: Oh, they're fantastic.
- 17:05Speaker 6: Isn't that one author, he does a lot of them.
- 17:09Speaker 7: Is it Koontz?
- 17:09Speaker 4: Dean Koontz? Did he do that?
- 17:12Speaker 7: I feel like maybe it was him or someone did
- 17:14Speaker 7: the thing where he wrote a book that literally had
- 17:17Speaker 7: a fake spider in it that jumps out at you
- 17:20Speaker 7: or something.
- 17:22Speaker 6: I read this was a weird, yeah, like a hardcover.
- 17:25Speaker 7: Book that came out that came with a fake spider
- 17:27Speaker 7: in it. It was like a somewhat well-known author, I
- 17:31Speaker 7: feel like. um that's not exactly choose your own adventure
- 17:34Speaker 7: that's just like weird.
- 17:36Speaker 5: Just weird fake spider book yeah i.
- 17:40Speaker 4: Went back that's the thing my favorite ones were which
- 17:44Speaker 4: again this is a million years ago but it was
- 17:46Speaker 4: like no surprise medieval dorky dungeons and dragons kind of
- 17:49Speaker 4: crap but it was um i went back and found
- 17:52Speaker 4: like i had seven or eight of them from back
- 17:54Speaker 4: in the day and And they were early, early written
- 17:57Speaker 4: by R.L. Stine before he'd even started Goosebumps, I think.
- 18:00Speaker 4: This was like his earlier work. But I remembered them
- 18:03Speaker 4: being really well written. And then I'm like, oh, well,
- 18:05Speaker 4: no wonder they're written by R.L. Stine, who is an
- 18:08Speaker 4: actual writer. He just also kind of focuses on kids
- 18:11Speaker 4: and teenagers. And yeah, so my favorite, not one of
- 18:15Speaker 4: those books, surprisingly, but my favorite Choose Your Own Adventure
- 18:18Speaker 4: story was in grade school, I did a book report
- 18:21Speaker 4: on a Choose Your Own Adventure book.
- 18:23Speaker 8: Nice, nice.
- 18:25Speaker 4: See, this is what happens when teachers are just like,
- 18:27Speaker 4: I don't know, go pick something. And they don't pay
- 18:29Speaker 4: attention and do their homework and check to make sure
- 18:31Speaker 4: it wasn't a choose-your-own-adventure book. And I read like 20
- 18:34Speaker 4: pages probably as opposed to the entire book. So take that, school.
- 18:38Speaker 5: That's good.
- 18:40Speaker 7: That's my favorite.
- 18:41Speaker 10: You showed them.
- 18:42Speaker 13: I did.
- 18:43Speaker 4: And I learned, oh, wait, nothing.
- 18:45Speaker 6: I refuse to read.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Which is still true, mind you.
- 18:49Speaker 8: Still true.
- 18:50Speaker 4: I don't know how to read. I'll be back around.
- 18:58Speaker 4: Around two.
- 19:00Speaker 7: Well, that Netflix movie did make me think. We did
- 19:05Speaker 7: also watch another older movie that I hadn't seen in
- 19:08Speaker 7: a long time, but we watched Clue, which I had
- 19:12Speaker 7: forgotten about the multi-ending.
- 19:17Speaker 4: It was Choose Your Own Adventure in the theater. Yeah,
- 19:20Speaker 4: that's crazy.
- 19:20Speaker 6: I didn't know that.
- 19:22Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 19:23Speaker 10: That's crazy.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Because when you went and saw it in the theater,
- 19:24Speaker 4: you got one. it wasn't it was when they released
- 19:27Speaker 4: it on video they put all three on there see
- 19:29Speaker 4: all three but in the theater you got one the.
- 19:31Speaker 7: All three makes it work to me like i can't
- 19:34Speaker 7: imagine like only getting one of them and being like
- 19:36Speaker 7: totally satisfied.
- 19:37Speaker 4: What's funny is when i saw it i got the
- 19:40Speaker 4: one that became the main ending but i think other
- 19:42Speaker 4: people got like the random scarlet ending or whatever and
- 19:45Speaker 4: you were just like wait what? it does feel like
- 19:48Speaker 4: it would be sort of an off ending for that
- 19:50Speaker 4: movie without the real wrap up that happens in that
- 19:54Speaker 4: final and it's.
- 19:56Speaker 7: Not Clue unless you have the woman with the flames.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Madeline she's kind of amazing at everything the best part of.
- 20:05Speaker 5: The whole movie she's awesome.
- 20:10Speaker 7: I love that just how they wrote off a motive
- 20:12Speaker 7: for someone killing her.
- 20:12Speaker 6: It's like, why did you kill her?
- 20:13Speaker 7: And she's like, I just hated her so much. The
- 20:20Speaker 7: reason this person says, we'll just have Madeline Kahn do
- 20:22Speaker 7: a funny bit, just being Madeline Kahn.
- 20:24Speaker 4: They'll just play that in the courtroom.
- 20:26Speaker 2: It'll be great.
- 20:26Speaker 4: They'll be like, wheel the TV in. Hit that right there.
- 20:31Speaker 6: It'll be great.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Flames.
- 20:33Speaker 7: Sorry, I had to get that.
- 20:37Speaker 4: I mean, to me, that's another one of those go-to of, like,
- 20:40Speaker 4: why Tim Curry is genius.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Oh, God.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Of the many portrayals over the years. It might be, like,
- 20:45Speaker 4: his best movie role. He's, like, because he can do
- 20:49Speaker 4: that level of, like, zany slapstick and, like, make it work. Where, like,
- 20:54Speaker 4: sometimes you see people do that and it just totally
- 20:57Speaker 4: falls flat. And, like, there's something about his... style and
- 21:01Speaker 4: his delivery that just carries that kind of nonsense.
- 21:03Speaker 7: Yeah i mean not an exaggeration he's like on peter
- 21:07Speaker 7: seller's level and yeah he's like that's his game level
- 21:09Speaker 7: in in that movie it's so good.
- 21:11Speaker 4: I feel like with a lot of movies he's that
- 21:13Speaker 4: good and yet i don't know that he ever will
- 21:16Speaker 4: get that kind of recognition that not at the like
- 21:20Speaker 4: the respect level that somebody like peter sellers gets where
- 21:23Speaker 4: i think he's equally as impressive in so many roles
- 21:27Speaker 4: over the years Well, my next one is one I,
- 21:32Speaker 4: it's been a little while, but it's one of those
- 21:34Speaker 4: I've been waiting to find a good excuse to talk
- 21:36Speaker 4: about it because I'd remembered the title from a million
- 21:40Speaker 4: years ago in the video store and never got around
- 21:43Speaker 4: to it. And I'll say it and you're going to
- 21:45Speaker 4: hear a song kick in in your head. It's not that.
- 21:47Speaker 4: But I watched the final countdown. Go ahead. Let the
- 21:51Speaker 4: keyboard kick in. It's not that. And by the way,
- 21:54Speaker 4: I guess they stole it because I checked this movie
- 21:56Speaker 4: came out before that song was even a thing. So.
- 21:59Speaker 4: I had to make sure one wasn't stealing from the other,
- 22:01Speaker 4: which I guess eventually one or the other would always
- 22:03Speaker 4: steal from it. But it's one of those I have
- 22:08Speaker 4: to give credit as maybe the coolest concept. Like somebody
- 22:13Speaker 4: doing this pitch gets an award. And then you get
- 22:16Speaker 4: there and you're like, wait, what?
- 22:18Speaker 10: What did you do with this?
- 22:20Speaker 4: So it's basically modern era, which was like 1980 when
- 22:25Speaker 4: they made it. But it was of the time. a
- 22:28Speaker 4: military kind of setup a military like aircraft carrier and
- 22:33Speaker 4: they go on this mission and they send the the
- 22:36Speaker 4: Martin Sheen is like some sort of like government agent
- 22:39Speaker 4: that's supposed to be there to like efficiency expert kind
- 22:42Speaker 4: of a thing to just go and see what's going
- 22:44Speaker 4: on with their operation so he kind of comes in
- 22:46Speaker 4: as an outsider so we sort of go in with
- 22:48Speaker 4: him and then Kirk Douglas is the general kind of
- 22:51Speaker 4: running the ship itself and they go into a blue
- 22:56Speaker 4: hole in space and And again, it's Bill and Ted.
- 23:00Speaker 4: They pass through time, and they come out not just
- 23:04Speaker 4: during World War II, the day of and just before
- 23:09Speaker 4: Pearl Harbor gets bombed. So to me, that's an amazing concept.
- 23:14Speaker 4: That's a high concept idea. And then you're like, okay,
- 23:18Speaker 4: think about what you could do with that. And the
- 23:21Speaker 4: whole scenario, which they do kind of play that, okay,
- 23:24Speaker 4: we have... these options before is kind of a thing.
- 23:27Speaker 4: And that's probably the most interesting is in the middle
- 23:30Speaker 4: is they're like, okay, we can, we are the arsenal
- 23:34Speaker 4: we have can turn the entire war. If not stop
- 23:37Speaker 4: this attack, we can change everything that happens from this
- 23:40Speaker 4: point on. But do we, you know, it's like, what,
- 23:44Speaker 4: what repercussions will that have if we do? And are
- 23:48Speaker 4: we going to be trapped here forever? And are we
- 23:50Speaker 4: going to have to readjust with time changing and all
- 23:53Speaker 4: of this stuff? So there is a part in the
- 23:55Speaker 4: middle where they at least kind of toy with that idea,
- 23:58Speaker 4: which is maybe the most interesting part of it. If
- 24:01Speaker 4: ever a movie cops out on its own level of awesomeness,
- 24:04Speaker 4: this is it. And I won't ruin the end for you,
- 24:07Speaker 4: but it ruins it itself because it never fully lives
- 24:10Speaker 4: up to how awesome the idea of what's going on
- 24:13Speaker 4: there is. That, you know, everything deals with these moments
- 24:17Speaker 4: in time and they always end up being, you know,
- 24:20Speaker 4: you go back and it just happens to be the
- 24:21Speaker 4: day before Kennedy gets shot or Pearl Harbor. It's always
- 24:25Speaker 4: somehow you end up on these amazing days, but it
- 24:28Speaker 4: is one of those great scenarios of like, well, what
- 24:31Speaker 4: if we did do something? Like what, what, what responsibility
- 24:35Speaker 4: do we have to, again, because a lot of these
- 24:37Speaker 4: guys are military and they're like, well, whatever year we're in,
- 24:41Speaker 4: our job is to take care of the U.S. troops,
- 24:44Speaker 4: you know, regardless of if it's, you know, World War II.
- 24:47Speaker 4: we're still supposed to protect our country. So I'm like,
- 24:50Speaker 4: that's interesting when you're in the military and that is
- 24:53Speaker 4: your job. But then there's the other guys going, but
- 24:56Speaker 4: what the hell? You can't just do that. So it's
- 24:59Speaker 4: a really cool scenario that doesn't live up to its concept.
- 25:04Speaker 4: But again, good performances, weird little loopholes in there that
- 25:09Speaker 4: you're just like, wait, they did what? So yeah, it's
- 25:13Speaker 4: still worth watching, but don't set your goals near as
- 25:15Speaker 4: high as, They probably should have when they made this movie.
- 25:20Speaker 10: Sounds like a hell of a cast, though.
- 25:22Speaker 4: Yeah, that was just... I'm trying to think the other... Oh,
- 25:25Speaker 4: Charles Durning is a senator. Yeah, it's like several of
- 25:29Speaker 4: the people. You're like, oh, look, he's in there, too.
- 25:31Speaker 4: So there's a lot of really cool people thrown in
- 25:35Speaker 4: the mix. But yeah, just enjoy the mid-portion.
- 25:42Speaker 10: Well, it's not anything specific, but for Christmas, the wife
- 25:45Speaker 10: and I were given a Roku, which has opened up
- 25:48Speaker 10: a whole world of possibilities to keep me from doing
- 25:53Speaker 10: real things. And I discovered that one of the channels
- 25:56Speaker 10: on there is called the Drive-In Movie Channel.
- 25:58Speaker 2: Nice.
- 26:00Speaker 10: And it has a subsection, I guess, of whatever the
- 26:03Speaker 10: old red and blue 3D movies.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Oh.
- 26:06Speaker 5: Very nice.
- 26:07Speaker 4: If anyone appreciates that, that would be me.
- 26:10Speaker 10: I have watched the original House of Wax with Vincent
- 26:12Speaker 10: Price in 3D.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I don't have to ask, do you have your own glasses?
- 26:16Speaker 6: Oh, yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 14: You know I do.
- 26:17Speaker 4: I know you have your own glasses.
- 26:18Speaker 6: You know I do.
- 26:19Speaker 10: Every room in my house has at least two pairs.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Of TV glasses.
- 26:22Speaker 4: I've recently found actual plastic ones with red and blue lenses.
- 26:26Speaker 4: I've seen those. That I was like, okay, I need these.
- 26:29Speaker 10: And they weren't that expensive.
- 26:30Speaker 4: Now I finally have a good fancy pair. Not those
- 26:34Speaker 4: dumb ones they give you at the theater. One more
- 26:38Speaker 4: reason to not go see 3D movies in the theater.
- 26:41Speaker 4: But these all sound awesome.
- 26:43Speaker 10: They are awesome. And there's a lot that the names
- 26:45Speaker 10: I don't remember and couldn't even make it all the
- 26:48Speaker 10: way through because they were that bad.
- 26:51Speaker 4: We'll probably be covering them in the future on our
- 26:54Speaker 4: exclusive episodes. Other people will have to suffer. Or they
- 26:58Speaker 4: can inflict them on us, whichever.
- 27:00Speaker 10: Either way.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Well, that is one of those when I was moving,
- 27:04Speaker 4: I'm like, okay, I know I'm not going to be
- 27:06Speaker 4: able to afford cable. And I'm kind of fine with
- 27:08Speaker 4: that as time's gone on. I'm like, cable sucks. like
- 27:11Speaker 4: it's so damn expensive because they find new ways to
- 27:14Speaker 4: pile more stuff on which i haven't found at all
- 27:18Speaker 4: with internet like they haven't decided to go down that
- 27:20Speaker 4: road with the internet but cable they find great ways
- 27:23Speaker 4: to add more crap on every bill so as i
- 27:26Speaker 4: got you know moved i was just like okay but
- 27:29Speaker 4: i need tv on all the time like it's the
- 27:31Speaker 4: only way i've existed in my entirety of life is
- 27:34Speaker 4: just i don't watch most of it but it's just
- 27:37Speaker 4: on like it's just it feels unnatural if it's not
- 27:40Speaker 4: on I realize that now, like even when the, you know,
- 27:44Speaker 4: just the dogs are hanging out here, they're watching, you know,
- 27:46Speaker 4: they're usually watching Charlie's Angels or something, you know, really important.
- 27:51Speaker 4: So yeah, I'm like, I knew something had to happen.
- 27:56Speaker 4: So I kind of went into those, like I kept asking,
- 27:58Speaker 4: I was like, what do you have? Like it just
- 28:00Speaker 4: became a game for six months of like, how do
- 28:02Speaker 4: you watch TV? So Roku was one I heard different
- 28:05Speaker 4: things about. I still haven't decided if I need to
- 28:08Speaker 4: add that in. I will say, the generic, actually it
- 28:11Speaker 4: was one of the higher end antenna, but the normal
- 28:14Speaker 4: digital plug-in antenna, I get a lot more stuff than
- 28:18Speaker 4: I ever expected. That's why I'm watching, you know, Twilight
- 28:21Speaker 4: Zone and Charlie's Angels, and me TV plays so much
- 28:24Speaker 4: old crap that I'm just like, this is awesome, and
- 28:27Speaker 4: I'm not paying anybody for it. Like, I bought an
- 28:30Speaker 4: antenna and I'm good. Like, I can watch Night Stalker,
- 28:33Speaker 4: so screw you cable, like.
- 28:35Speaker 10: Yeah, we've got one of those, too. And a couple
- 28:37Speaker 10: summers ago, I got re-addicted to The Rifleman.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Which I keep seeing all the time.
- 28:43Speaker 2: Good show, actually.
- 28:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it's one of those I didn't... Like, again, I
- 28:47Speaker 4: remember it as a kid being on. I think WDRB
- 28:50Speaker 4: used to run it every day. And I used to
- 28:52Speaker 4: watch it just to see the intro. Because, you know,
- 28:54Speaker 4: he fires that gun a whole bunch of times.
- 28:55Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 28:56Speaker 4: And then on top of that, though, like lately, I
- 29:00Speaker 4: was just standing there watching an episode. And I'm like, damn,
- 29:03Speaker 4: Chuck Connors is tall. Like he's so much taller than
- 29:06Speaker 4: this other dude in the scene with him. And I'm like,
- 29:08Speaker 4: all right, Google, let's do it. He's like 6'6. And
- 29:12Speaker 4: then there's another weird rabbit hole of, did you know
- 29:14Speaker 4: he was in the NBA?
- 29:15Speaker 7: No.
- 29:17Speaker 4: He's one of the few people, not even the fact
- 29:19Speaker 4: that he also then became an actor, one of the
- 29:21Speaker 4: few people that was in two different professional sports. I
- 29:25Speaker 4: guess he's in like the Bo Jackson Club or something
- 29:27Speaker 4: because he was also in, I think, professional football. And
- 29:31Speaker 4: was in the NBA back in the day when they
- 29:33Speaker 4: let tall white guys play basketball and like well.
- 29:37Speaker 10: They only well it's.
- 29:39Speaker 4: A different world once again things have changed things have
- 29:43Speaker 4: changed every once in a while one sneaks in now
- 29:46Speaker 4: but you know you got to be cool like Chuck
- 29:47Speaker 4: Connery so yeah I one more reason he's 6'6 he
- 29:51Speaker 4: was a basketball star so this is the rabbit holes
- 29:55Speaker 4: that old timey TV leads you down but yes rifleman
- 29:59Speaker 4: also awesome Rifleman in 3D. Let's combine all of this.
- 30:03Speaker 10: I'm looking for it.
- 30:04Speaker 4: Firing the gun at your face. That's pretty cool.
- 30:08Speaker 7: Sounds awful.
- 30:11Speaker 4: That's another weird trivia thing I found a long time ago.
- 30:13Speaker 4: At the beginning when he does the firing the gun,
- 30:16Speaker 4: that model of gun doesn't fire that many times in
- 30:18Speaker 4: a row.
- 30:19Speaker 11: Right.
- 30:19Speaker 4: It's like one too many. It's like somebody didn't do
- 30:21Speaker 4: the research right because it fires one too many bullets
- 30:24Speaker 4: that that gun couldn't fire.
- 30:28Speaker 10: Yeah but if it's one i mean that's not i
- 30:30Speaker 10: mean how many how many shootouts have you seen where
- 30:33Speaker 10: you're like they can't hold that.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Many i feel like if you yeah well again that
- 30:37Speaker 4: was i guess the first incident of that because now
- 30:39Speaker 4: i'm like he's got a revolver and he just fired
- 30:41Speaker 4: nine times like i don't think that's how that works
- 30:44Speaker 4: like so yeah that's any shootout but this was the
- 30:48Speaker 4: old school version more rifleman trivia mostly what we're here
- 30:53Speaker 4: for today oh yeah all right anyone with non-reckleman related events.
- 31:01Speaker 8: Uh speaking of things that are old one i re-watched
- 31:05Speaker 8: over christmas was sound of music i watch it well
- 31:09Speaker 8: i used to watch it every christmas with my nana
- 31:11Speaker 8: which meant i would turn it on and she would
- 31:13Speaker 8: fall asleep within like half an hour and then i
- 31:15Speaker 8: would scoot around like clean up and everything like when
- 31:19Speaker 8: i watch movies all right but not really but then
- 31:22Speaker 8: she actually passed away this year in April and so
- 31:25Speaker 8: this was my first Christmas without her so I was
- 31:27Speaker 8: like I'm gonna sit my butt down on the couch
- 31:29Speaker 8: and watch all this movie without realizing it was three
- 31:32Speaker 8: hours long holy cow did.
- 31:34Speaker 10: You fall asleep at the same point she fell asleep.
- 31:37Speaker 5: I was like, stay awake. But it was kind of tough.
- 31:40Speaker 5: I had to take a good.
- 31:41Speaker 8: Well, because I was at my boyfriend's parents' house in Ohio,
- 31:46Speaker 8: and I just mentioned it, that that's what I would
- 31:48Speaker 8: do on Christmas Eve.
- 31:48Speaker 5: So they were like, well, let's watch it together. Let's
- 31:50Speaker 5: do it. And they're like, we have the VHS. Two tapes,
- 31:53Speaker 5: mind you.
- 31:53Speaker 4: It was two tapes. Oh, I know.
- 31:57Speaker 8: And the intermission, it just stops and it's like, next
- 32:01Speaker 8: tape right in the middle of Edelweiss.
- 32:04Speaker 10: Wow.
- 32:04Speaker 4: They didn't even wait.
- 32:05Speaker 5: And then it's like, next.
- 32:07Speaker 11: Edelweiss, Edelweiss, bless my homeland forever.
- 32:22Speaker 15: Yes, folks, it's intermission time. So how about taking a break?
- 32:26Speaker 15: Get out and stretch a little and relax before the
- 32:29Speaker 15: show begins again. And why not make it refreshment time, too?
- 32:34Speaker 15: We have lots of tasty, delicious treats waiting for you
- 32:37Speaker 15: at the refreshment center.
- 32:39Speaker 12: Through the years, RCA Victor has built a tradition of
- 32:42Speaker 12: continually introducing new ideas and products to bring new thrills
- 32:47Speaker 12: and pleasures to millions in home entertainments.
- 32:51Speaker 2: In keeping with that tradition, RCA Victor now offers a.
- 32:54Speaker 12: Completely new development for new.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Listening enjoyment with tape.
- 32:59Speaker 12: Watch this. How long do you think it takes the
- 33:02Speaker 12: average person to take off one tape and thread in
- 33:05Speaker 12: a new one? Two and two-fifths seconds? Thirty-two and one-fifth?

- 33:58Speaker 12: There.
- 33:59Speaker 3: Right there.
- 33:59Speaker 16: Yeah, you heard it. And then let's run out, jump

- 35:04Speaker 2: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. I'm Richard Carlson.
- 35:07Speaker 14: If I look somewhat older and more drawn than I
- 35:10Speaker 14: have in my recent pictures, it's because of the harrowing
- 35:13Speaker 14: experiences I've been having here in The maze. The maze
- 35:19Speaker 14: is the first picture in three dimension that delves into.
- 35:21Speaker 2: The weird and terrifying world of the supernatural.
- 35:25Speaker 14: If you're familiar with the exciting effects that can be
- 35:28Speaker 14: achieved with 3D, you can imagine what happens when something
- 35:32Speaker 14: from the great beyond reaches right out of the screen
- 35:35Speaker 14: to clutch at you.
- 35:36Speaker 2: Oh, and one more thing.
- 35:39Speaker 14: After you've seen the maze, please don't reveal to your
- 35:42Speaker 14: friends the secret of its story or its startling climax.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Because you see, we think the maze will amaze you.
- 36:05Speaker 4: So, you guys know we're broke, right?
- 36:14Speaker 5: We're always broke.
- 36:15Speaker 3: I know.
- 36:16Speaker 4: And yet we're trying to put this show together. Now
- 36:18Speaker 4: how the hell can we keep the show rolling if
- 36:22Speaker 4: we're broke and we can't do this?
- 36:23Speaker 5: Sell special fiddle fowl.
- 36:26Speaker 7: Oh.
- 36:28Speaker 4: Or instead... Murder people? Are you just taking random money
- 36:33Speaker 4: out of their pockets?
- 36:34Speaker 5: Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.
- 36:36Speaker 4: Hopefully it won't come to that if some people will
- 36:40Speaker 4: get on board with us.
- 36:42Speaker 5: Get on board with what?
- 36:44Speaker 4: The new Movie Meltdown Patreon page.
- 36:46Speaker 5: And what is this?
- 36:47Speaker 4: If you go there, you can sponsor the show itself. Basically,
- 36:51Speaker 4: you just join the club. You join the Meltdown Club.
- 36:54Speaker 4: You become a Melketeer.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Do you get a special decoder ring?
- 36:57Speaker 4: We already sent those out, but those people... I didn't
- 36:59Speaker 4: get a decoder ring. You're not part of the club.
- 37:02Speaker 4: I'm never part of the club. You're part of the
- 37:05Speaker 4: secret circle, though.
- 37:06Speaker 3: It's okay.
- 37:07Speaker 4: But if you become a Melketeer, you can get special
- 37:11Speaker 4: episodes that only come to you. I think you should
- 37:14Speaker 4: do it right now. Right now? I'm just saying. It's
- 37:17Speaker 4: maybe a couple of bucks. There's other levels you can
- 37:20Speaker 4: kick in and get fancier. Maybe a couple bucks. You
- 37:22Speaker 4: don't know. Fancier stuff. But really, just a couple of
- 37:25Speaker 4: bucks will keep things rolling. What'll get me a pony?
- 37:29Speaker 4: That's a really high level. I'll have to figure out
- 37:33Speaker 4: exactly what. That's platinum membership right there. It might be
- 37:36Speaker 4: above platinum. We'll have to see. What is above platinum? Titanium.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Titanium.
- 37:43Speaker 2: Really?
- 37:43Speaker 4: Yeah. Maybe that's a step below.
- 37:46Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 37:46Speaker 4: We'll have to see.
- 37:47Speaker 5: Aluminium level.
- 37:48Speaker 2: That's way below.
- 37:50Speaker 5: Not if you say it fancy.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:53Speaker 4: Unobtainium.
- 37:55Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Good luck with that. But for the rest of you,
- 37:59Speaker 4: go kick in a couple bucks. Keep the show rolling.
- 38:02Speaker 4: Go to patreon.com slash movie meltdown. And if you don't
- 38:06Speaker 4: know how to type all that in, go to the
- 38:07Speaker 4: movie meltdown.com page. And the link's right there. And you
- 38:10Speaker 4: can save this show.
- 38:12Speaker 5: And help me get a pony.
- 38:14Speaker 4: Damn them, man. Save the meltdown. Get Misty a pony.
- 38:18Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 38:19Speaker 4: Priorities.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Hi, this is John Waters and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 38:40Speaker 1: You better keep listening or I'll have you killed.
- 38:57Speaker 12: Two and two-fifths seconds exactly.
- 39:01Speaker 3: How did she do it?
- 39:03Speaker 2: Here's how. The new RCA.
- 39:05Speaker 12: Victor conceived, developed, and designed tape cartridge for easy magazine
- 39:11Speaker 12: loading to make playing a tape as simple as or
- 39:14Speaker 12: even easier than playing a record.
- 39:17Speaker 4: Edelweiss, Edelweiss.
- 39:20Speaker 17: Edelweiß, edelweiß, wenn ich dich sehe am Morgen, blühst du rein,
- 39:40Speaker 17: klein und fein und fein.
- 39:47Speaker 8: You couldn't finish that song you were asleep by the
- 39:51Speaker 8: goat song it's fine.
- 39:52Speaker 10: Or go to intermission before it.
- 39:54Speaker 8: I know I was like that's a pretty big part
- 39:56Speaker 8: but it's really good it's just such a charming movie
- 39:59Speaker 8: and the songs are great and Christopher Plummer is fine
- 40:03Speaker 8: he looks good um and all the nazi stuff at
- 40:07Speaker 8: the end it takes some it's got some twists and
- 40:09Speaker 8: turns yeah it is.
- 40:10Speaker 4: One of those you don't expect that much hardcore nazi
- 40:13Speaker 4: action in the middle of this thing that you know
- 40:15Speaker 4: you grow up assuming is a big silly musical and
- 40:17Speaker 4: you're like a lot of nazis.
- 40:19Speaker 10: In this movie it's kind of the whole point yeah
- 40:23Speaker 10: but you don't know that like i just i just
- 40:25Speaker 10: remember her spinning in a field and singing.
- 40:28Speaker 4: And like so you don't expect nazis going into that.
- 40:31Speaker 8: But yeah lots of nazis That scene at the end
- 40:34Speaker 8: where they're hiding in the abbey or whatever and it's
- 40:38Speaker 8: all dark and they're in the graveyard part and all
- 40:41Speaker 8: being totally quiet while the Nazis are sneaking around.
- 40:44Speaker 5: It's like, oh my god, this is stressful. I know
- 40:46Speaker 5: they're fine. But good lord. And Rolf, what a dick.
- 40:51Speaker 5: Screw Rolf.
- 40:53Speaker 4: Who would have known? Nazis were scary.
- 40:57Speaker 5: Yeah. So great movie.
- 41:01Speaker 7: Well then.
- 41:02Speaker 4: Now, you recently teased that months ago in another episode. Now,
- 41:07Speaker 4: the whole time you were sitting there watching it, weren't
- 41:09Speaker 4: you like, man, I wish Carrie Underwood was.
- 41:13Speaker 5: In this?
- 41:13Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 41:14Speaker 2: Oh, sure.
- 41:15Speaker 4: But just to argue, because at the time, you and
- 41:18Speaker 4: our guests were just like, nobody needs to be in
- 41:22Speaker 4: a movie with Julie Andrews. But that Mary Poppins returns,
- 41:26Speaker 4: people like her. So somebody's moved into her territory. I
- 41:30Speaker 4: didn't know if you'd seen that.
- 41:31Speaker 5: I haven't, but I like Emily Blunt. That's what I'm saying.
- 41:33Speaker 5: She's like a surprisingly good singer.
- 41:36Speaker 4: Nobody, yeah, nobody is complaining about her. I've heard other
- 41:39Speaker 4: issues with that movie, but none of them, you know,
- 41:42Speaker 4: that would be the easy one. It'd be like, well,
- 41:44Speaker 4: she's no Julie Andrews. But like, everybody's like, know what?
- 41:47Speaker 4: She's really good at it. So she's then, she can
- 41:51Speaker 4: take her place in every movie. as we remake victor
- 41:54Speaker 4: victoria emily boy there you go sorry carrie underwood i
- 41:59Speaker 4: i was originally trying to shove her in every one
- 42:01Speaker 4: of them but emily's stealing your thing man.
- 42:04Speaker 8: The one thing that does get me is her haircut
- 42:06Speaker 8: julie andrews haircut in that movie i'm like who gave
- 42:08Speaker 8: you that bowl cut girl inside of music.
- 42:14Speaker 4: Does she think she's an old lady haircut Is that
- 42:18Speaker 4: what nuns looked like? You know my thing with old
- 42:20Speaker 4: ladies getting their hair cut short. I don't understand it.
- 42:22Speaker 4: It's a thing. So maybe she thought she was an
- 42:24Speaker 4: old lady already because she was going to be a nun.
- 42:26Speaker 5: Yeah, she's like, screw it.
- 42:27Speaker 4: All nuns are old ladies, right? Maybe she just gave up.
- 42:29Speaker 5: I also love that.
- 42:31Speaker 8: When she's walking down the aisle, the nuns are singing,
- 42:34Speaker 8: how do you solve a problem like Maria?
- 42:36Speaker 5: They're like, it's your wedding day.
- 42:38Speaker 8: Here's this song about how you're a giant pain in
- 42:40Speaker 8: the ass.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I never thought that. Why would you sing that?
- 42:44Speaker 4: So her husband starts singing along. It's my problem now.
- 42:51Speaker 8: And there's so many other songs from the movie that
- 42:53Speaker 8: you guys could sing, and you're going to pick the
- 42:55Speaker 8: one where you're like, she sucks.
- 42:58Speaker 5: Don't marry her.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Boo.
- 43:00Speaker 4: I mean, that really should be most, as you're going
- 43:02Speaker 4: down the aisle, that's what.
- 43:04Speaker 3: People should be yelling, right?
- 43:05Speaker 5: Just yell your criticisms at me, please.
- 43:09Speaker 10: Biggest disappointment about my wedding is no one stood up
- 43:12Speaker 10: and said, this has to stop. I mean, I love
- 43:15Speaker 10: my wife, I'm glad we're married, but there was nobody
- 43:18Speaker 10: there to say, yeah, you do, just don't.
- 43:21Speaker 4: I mean, really, at your wedding, would that have been
- 43:25Speaker 4: out of place?
- 43:26Speaker 11: No.
- 43:27Speaker 4: At least on the show, you've described your wedding. But
- 43:29Speaker 4: I guess for anyone who hadn't, some of the highlights
- 43:32Speaker 4: you can, before.
- 43:35Speaker 10: So many things.
- 43:36Speaker 4: There was, I mean, you encouraged everyone to come in costumes. Yes.
- 43:40Speaker 4: Like full, like, like Comic-Con costumes. Yes. Some of which did.
- 43:45Speaker 10: Some of which did. We had a Mothra there.
- 43:49Speaker 4: I think you had two moffers there.
- 43:51Speaker 10: We might have.
- 43:52Speaker 17: I don't know.
- 43:52Speaker 10: That whole day was kind of a blur.
- 43:54Speaker 4: That's what most people say about their wedding, but yours
- 43:56Speaker 4: has some extra weird blurry parts.
- 43:58Speaker 10: We had built a city out of cardboard boxes that
- 44:01Speaker 10: were designed to be destroyed at the end of the evening.
- 44:03Speaker 4: Nice. And they did, mind you.
- 44:06Speaker 10: One of the people who came in costume was a
- 44:08Speaker 10: full-size Pikachu.
- 44:10Speaker 4: Yep. I remember that. Because people couldn't tell. It was
- 44:13Speaker 4: a full-on giant head, so you couldn't tell where Pikachu
- 44:16Speaker 4: was actually looking.
- 44:18Speaker 18: Right.
- 44:18Speaker 4: So it always looked like Pikachu was staring at you
- 44:20Speaker 4: from the next table over. You're like, why does that
- 44:22Speaker 4: freaking Pikachu keep staring at me? Hot dogs.
- 44:28Speaker 7: Oh, yeah.
- 44:29Speaker 10: There were chili dogs and nachos.
- 44:31Speaker 4: As any good wedding.
- 44:32Speaker 10: And traditional Vietnamese food because my mother-in-law, my now mother-in-law
- 44:38Speaker 10: was embarrassed at our wedding. Our food choices.
- 44:41Speaker 4: And both of you. Yeah, well, that too.
- 44:44Speaker 10: More of my wife listening.
- 44:46Speaker 4: She's known her longer. It's okay.
- 44:48Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 44:49Speaker 4: She's her mom. It's her role to give her shit
- 44:52Speaker 4: and break her down. So again, at that wedding, if
- 44:58Speaker 4: anyone stopped and did like, you know, this can't stand.
- 45:02Speaker 4: Like they just be like, there's another bit they're working in. Yeah.
- 45:07Speaker 4: I think it would have gone over. Okay. Actually.
- 45:09Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 45:10Speaker 4: I'll have none of this. I'm in love with you, Phillip.
- 45:13Speaker 4: Sit down, sir. I think it, yeah.
- 45:16Speaker 5: Sit down, giant Pikachu.
- 45:17Speaker 4: Please, please Pikachu. Control yourself. Have another chili dog. It'll
- 45:22Speaker 4: be fine.
- 45:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 45:23Speaker 10: What I recently discovered about the, uh, the person in
- 45:27Speaker 10: the pikachu outfit she there were kids there and they
- 45:31Speaker 10: wanted their picture taken with pikachu and uh she could
- 45:34Speaker 10: only wrap one arm around them because the other arm
- 45:37Speaker 10: was nursing a beer.
- 45:40Speaker 8: Just like at disneyland walking around and like beer bottles
- 45:46Speaker 8: clank out of the bottle pretty much.
- 45:50Speaker 5: That sounds awesome.
- 45:52Speaker 10: She was telling us that Pikachu has its own closet
- 45:56Speaker 10: because there's nowhere else.
- 45:57Speaker 6: To put it.
- 45:57Speaker 4: Yes, if you own your own Pikachu, you're sure.
- 45:59Speaker 10: But what she likes to do is take the Pikachu
- 46:01Speaker 10: head and sit it in a darkened room and send
- 46:03Speaker 10: her husband to go get something out of that room.
- 46:08Speaker 4: How do you solve a problem like Pikachu? Sounds like
- 46:11Speaker 4: what's going on in that marriage.
- 46:14Speaker 2: Yeah, they have issues.
- 46:17Speaker 4: Don't we?
- 46:18Speaker 10: I'm joking. They're a wonderful couple, and I wish them
- 46:20Speaker 10: the best.
- 46:21Speaker 4: That's amazing.
- 46:24Speaker 1: Oh, Lord.
- 46:25Speaker 17: All right.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Are we back around again?
- 46:27Speaker 7: Yes.
- 46:30Speaker 6: Oh, okay.
- 46:31Speaker 7: We did see Leave No Trace, which was really good,
- 46:38Speaker 7: very depressing, as I expected it would be, but really good.
- 46:45Speaker 6: It's this new.
- 46:46Speaker 3: It's one of the, like.
- 46:48Speaker 7: It's this indie drama that came out earlier last year,
- 46:52Speaker 7: and it's kind of like in the, I guess, prestige
- 46:55Speaker 7: awards race, and they're kind of talking about it again.
- 47:00Speaker 7: But it's just about this girl and her dad, who's
- 47:03Speaker 7: this veteran with PTSD, and they both kind of live
- 47:08Speaker 7: out in the woods together.
- 47:10Speaker 4: Basically like that's one of those that has the interchangeable
- 47:14Speaker 4: title of like yeah that sounds like a thing I
- 47:16Speaker 4: heard but I have.
- 47:17Speaker 7: No idea which one well it's basically it was a
- 47:20Speaker 7: lot like and I didn't see it but I remember
- 47:22Speaker 7: when it came out that Captain Fantastic movie which looked
- 47:24Speaker 7: really kind of corny and like not very good but
- 47:27Speaker 7: this scene like this was I feel like I haven't
- 47:31Speaker 7: seen the other one but this I feel like was
- 47:33Speaker 7: like the better idea of that basically or just more
- 47:37Speaker 7: believable but Yeah, it's the same director, the woman who
- 47:43Speaker 7: directed Winter's Bone. It's like her first movie since Winter's Bone.
- 47:47Speaker 4: I remember now. They were kind of, yeah, because she was, again,
- 47:52Speaker 4: I think I remember somebody saying how amazing it was
- 47:55Speaker 4: working with her just as a director. She's kind of
- 47:58Speaker 4: like really impressive in the way that she does. So yeah,
- 48:02Speaker 4: that is another reason I put it on my list
- 48:04Speaker 4: of things I want to see and then we'll forget
- 48:06Speaker 4: the title. which is what.
- 48:08Speaker 7: Happened yeah but it was uh it was really good
- 48:14Speaker 7: and it weirdly i thought i saw like at the
- 48:18Speaker 7: credits like when the information came up i didn't know
- 48:20Speaker 7: it's and i this is something i don't think about
- 48:22Speaker 7: when i watch movies anymore it's just.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Like what they're rated because i just.
- 48:25Speaker 6: Seem like oh every movie's rated r an hour all the.
- 48:27Speaker 7: Good ones are it was a pg movie but like
- 48:30Speaker 7: I was like, damn, that was like super, but I guess,
- 48:33Speaker 7: you know, no one said fuck in it or, you know,
- 48:35Speaker 7: there wasn't any like explicit drug use or anything.
- 48:38Speaker 6: So I was like, oh, so like it is possible.
- 48:40Speaker 7: To make like a serious movie that's not totally like
- 48:45Speaker 7: infantilizing to its audience. And also like, you know, I
- 48:51Speaker 7: guess it can be like a PG movie or whatever.
- 48:54Speaker 7: Like that, the idea of like kind of like older
- 48:56Speaker 7: movies used to be that way. Like there used to
- 48:57Speaker 7: be like a lot of older serious dramas that were
- 49:00Speaker 7: like That.
- 49:01Speaker 4: Were fine to have your kids watch, but they'd be bored,
- 49:04Speaker 4: but it was okay to show, where we hit that, like,
- 49:07Speaker 4: by the 70s, that's not a thing anymore.
- 49:09Speaker 7: Yeah, and it's totally fine, like, it doesn't matter, like,
- 49:11Speaker 7: what the movie's rated, but it's like, oh, it's, like,
- 49:15Speaker 7: cool that, like, you know, if you want to expose
- 49:17Speaker 7: your kids to something with, like, you know that's with
- 49:21Speaker 7: some intelligence that's not like a 3d cartoon with talking
- 49:25Speaker 7: bees or whatever you know like oh you know i
- 49:27Speaker 7: could show them this they won't be like traumatized.
- 49:31Speaker 4: It depends on what you're trying to do, too. Because
- 49:34Speaker 4: it is basically just like a weird checklist. It is like,
- 49:38Speaker 4: did you work in one fuck? Okay, that's okay. You
- 49:40Speaker 4: can still get away with 13, maybe. Depending on how
- 49:44Speaker 4: you used it. Were you using it in a sexual
- 49:47Speaker 4: way versus just generally saying fuck? Because that's the dividing line.
- 49:52Speaker 4: There's such a weird criteria to that nonsense. Yeah, it's
- 49:56Speaker 4: just like, wait, what? Like, so... It's just a game,
- 50:00Speaker 4: I feel like, at this point. And that's why it's
- 50:02Speaker 4: one of those, I don't even like when you hear
- 50:04Speaker 4: filmmakers going through all this nonsense. Like, I have heard
- 50:07Speaker 4: them like, oh, they were going to rate this like
- 50:10Speaker 4: NC-17 because of, you know, whatever. So they will basically
- 50:14Speaker 4: just send it back through and then it gets an R.
- 50:17Speaker 4: Or they'll take one second of something out and then
- 50:20Speaker 4: they're like, Oh, different running time. Here you go. Watch
- 50:22Speaker 4: this one. And now magically it's an R like it's
- 50:25Speaker 4: just how they feel that day.
- 50:27Speaker 5: I guess.
- 50:27Speaker 4: I don't know. I'm just like, it just seems like
- 50:30Speaker 4: weird criteria.
- 50:30Speaker 10: I've often wondered if it's the same people that review
- 50:33Speaker 10: it the second time through.
- 50:34Speaker 4: Probably not.
- 50:35Speaker 10: Because nobody knows who's on that board, which is strange
- 50:39Speaker 10: to me.
- 50:40Speaker 4: But I don't know.
- 50:44Speaker 7: It's really weird how that the whole system works. Um,
- 50:47Speaker 7: But yeah, definitely at the same time, this is definitely
- 50:51Speaker 7: a heavy movie that probably most kids would.
- 50:54Speaker 6: Be like, why am I watching this?
- 50:56Speaker 4: Why am I being punished?
- 50:58Speaker 5: This is sad.
- 50:58Speaker 6: Yeah, it's brutal.
- 51:00Speaker 7: It was probably the most devastating movie I've seen from
- 51:05Speaker 7: last year. But yeah, Ben Foster, he was great in it.
- 51:14Speaker 7: um i don't know anyone else and i think he
- 51:16Speaker 7: was like literally like probably the only like i don't
- 51:20Speaker 7: want to say professional actor but like well-known actor and
- 51:23Speaker 7: it was kind of like winter's bone where it's like
- 51:24Speaker 7: you can tell like she films like a bunch of
- 51:27Speaker 7: local people like who probably do like live out in
- 51:30Speaker 7: the woods and stuff and kind of mixes it in
- 51:31Speaker 7: to like the story but uh Yeah, I just thought
- 51:37Speaker 7: we'd catch that because that was like the one movie
- 51:40Speaker 7: that everyone's saying, it is perfect. Like, you know, the
- 51:42Speaker 7: best movie of the year, like 100% Rotten Tomatoes. I'm like, oh, okay.
- 51:47Speaker 4: And you're like, you're right. You know what?
- 51:49Speaker 6: It was good.
- 51:50Speaker 4: Crushed my soul. Yeah. But you're right.
- 51:52Speaker 12: Jeez, yeah.
- 51:57Speaker 4: I finally, it's one of those, I've even owned the
- 52:00Speaker 4: movie for years and never got around to it. Like I,
- 52:04Speaker 4: as usual, I think I started it and like five
- 52:06Speaker 4: minutes and went to sleep and I was like, all right,
- 52:07Speaker 4: I'll get back to it later. And then it finally,
- 52:09Speaker 4: like in the last week or so I was like,
- 52:12Speaker 4: Oh yeah, I have that. I should finish watching or
- 52:14Speaker 4: start watching that. So, um, just to round out my, again,
- 52:18Speaker 4: trying to hit all the, eventually see all the, the
- 52:22Speaker 4: lineup for Wes Craven, uh, red eye, which was one
- 52:26Speaker 4: of his later, 2005. Oh, yeah, I like that movie. It's, yeah.
- 52:31Speaker 6: I saw that in theaters.
- 52:32Speaker 4: It is one of those, and it's one of those,
- 52:35Speaker 4: the more I watch it, I'm like, yeah, it's definitely,
- 52:37Speaker 4: he got a very weird style as time went on,
- 52:42Speaker 4: and it got, like he always had a weird thing
- 52:44Speaker 4: of trying to work in humor, but it becomes like
- 52:49Speaker 4: a weird light tone once you hit the post-Scream era.
- 52:53Speaker 4: Because to me, my go-to is Nightmare on Elm Street.
- 52:56Speaker 4: And I'm like, that doesn't have that. It's got a
- 52:58Speaker 4: few moments where they're... But for the most part, it
- 53:02Speaker 4: is just dark and depraved. And it works really well
- 53:07Speaker 4: on that level. And everything still kind of feels as
- 53:09Speaker 4: real world as it can, being a movie about dreams.
- 53:13Speaker 4: But still, everything is kind of grounded in real characters.
- 53:17Speaker 4: And from that point on, as he got to the
- 53:20Speaker 4: post-Scream part of his career... everything got this really light
- 53:24Speaker 4: tone to it that even when it's something heavy, like
- 53:27Speaker 4: there's almost like a whimsical thing.
- 53:29Speaker 6: It's like slightly satirical.
- 53:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 53:32Speaker 7: And one thing I thought when I, when we saw
- 53:34Speaker 7: get out was I was like, Oh, this reminds me
- 53:37Speaker 7: the way the style is a lot like later West
- 53:39Speaker 7: Craven movies, like kind of a similar, like just like
- 53:44Speaker 7: kind of tongue in cheek approach, like a very light,
- 53:48Speaker 7: like kind of just humor style.
- 53:51Speaker 4: To it I mean I definitely knew it was there
- 53:53Speaker 4: in the scream stuff but like I think I really
- 53:55Speaker 4: started noticing it when I again finally got around because
- 53:59Speaker 4: I hadn't watched cursed cursed is like scream two and
- 54:02Speaker 4: a half like it is so exactly that same tone
- 54:06Speaker 4: only you shove some werewolves into it but like it
- 54:09Speaker 4: is almost exactly the same mood and the characters kind
- 54:14Speaker 4: of interact the same like it feels so much like
- 54:17Speaker 4: the scream thing going on And then this was kind
- 54:20Speaker 4: of right after the trilogy, I guess. So he still
- 54:23Speaker 4: kind of got a very specific thing. Like even, again,
- 54:28Speaker 4: not to ruin it, because it is still worth watching,
- 54:30Speaker 4: but because it's another one that the premise is really great.
- 54:33Speaker 4: Like it is a horror movie that takes place on
- 54:36Speaker 4: a plane. And almost all of our main characters' interaction
- 54:39Speaker 4: is on a plane. But we have a scenario with
- 54:43Speaker 4: like a family member and like weird horror that could
- 54:47Speaker 4: be going on. And it's still kind of silly by
- 54:49Speaker 4: the end. Again, whimsical is the word that came to mind.
- 54:52Speaker 4: I'm just like, this could be much darker at this point,
- 54:55Speaker 4: and it never feels like it crosses. And maybe in
- 54:58Speaker 4: a good way. I don't even know that I'm bad-mouthing it.
- 55:01Speaker 4: I'm just like, it's noticeably different than a lot of
- 55:04Speaker 4: other horror. And it's just kind of consistently coming from
- 55:08Speaker 4: him as he got older. He didn't want to go
- 55:11Speaker 4: that dark anymore, or he just found a new tone
- 55:14Speaker 4: that he liked.
- 55:15Speaker 14: But, yeah. Yeah.
- 55:16Speaker 4: It's interesting how, how light some of that stuff is,
- 55:21Speaker 4: even though, you know, lives are hanging on the balance here,
- 55:24Speaker 4: but it's still pretty fun in a, in a weird,
- 55:28Speaker 4: horrific way. But the scenario is still cool. Like it
- 55:31Speaker 4: is kind of a really cool and both performances. I
- 55:34Speaker 4: think I, again, it's Rachel McAdams who at the time,
- 55:37Speaker 4: I don't think I had paid attention to post, you know,
- 55:41Speaker 4: mean girls, like everybody else sort of scattered from that.
- 55:44Speaker 4: And now you're going back and finding all these, Great
- 55:46Speaker 4: performances from everybody in that movie. But yeah, I think
- 55:50Speaker 4: I hadn't paid attention to her at that time. She's
- 55:52Speaker 4: really good in it. And Cillian Murphy's always like, when
- 55:56Speaker 4: is he not kind of creepy and oddly like alluring
- 56:01Speaker 4: all at the same time? Like he is perfect casting
- 56:04Speaker 4: for that because he is like a weird charismatic dude.
- 56:08Speaker 4: But when you need to turn up the creepiness, like
- 56:10Speaker 4: it's right there. Like it is just lying in wait.
- 56:13Speaker 4: So it's, it's great casting and a weird, cool premise
- 56:17Speaker 4: and a light tone. It's just Wes Craven.
- 56:22Speaker 6: That should be the tagline for the movie.
- 56:24Speaker 4: Slightly worried for the poster.
- 56:25Speaker 7: It's just Wes Craven with a copyright sign.
- 56:29Speaker 10: It's just Wes Craven.
- 56:30Speaker 5: I didn't even realize that that was a Wes Craven movie.
- 56:33Speaker 4: Yeah. But again, it's different from his older stuff, but
- 56:38Speaker 4: that's definitely where he landed his time around. We rounded
- 56:42Speaker 4: out all of our geek activities.
- 56:45Speaker 2: Well.
- 56:46Speaker 10: It's not a movie they've seen recently, but when we
- 56:49Speaker 10: were in New Orleans a couple weeks ago, we saw
- 56:51Speaker 10: the house where they filmed the exteriors for Interview with
- 56:54Speaker 10: the Vampire.
- 56:55Speaker 4: Oh, nice.
- 56:56Speaker 10: Yes, we took a very cool vampire walking tour.
- 57:03Speaker 4: That sounds awesome.
- 57:04Speaker 10: I learned a lot of creepy things about.
- 57:06Speaker 7: New Orleans that.
- 57:08Speaker 5: I love New Orleans.
- 57:09Speaker 2: Oh, it's great.
- 57:09Speaker 5: It is just like weird.
- 57:12Speaker 4: It is weird history and yeah, everything. It's like six
- 57:16Speaker 4: levels of weirdness going on all simultaneously, it would seem.
- 57:20Speaker 8: Like I'm not like super naturally inclined, but whenever I've
- 57:23Speaker 8: been there, you just kind of feel like.
- 57:25Speaker 10: You do get an odd vibe.
- 57:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 57:28Speaker 5: That is a fun way.
- 57:29Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 57:31Speaker 4: An odd, creepy vibe and partying. That's what's weird is
- 57:35Speaker 4: the mixture of all that. It's become nothing but a
- 57:38Speaker 4: party town and yet ghosts.
- 57:41Speaker 5: You got a drink to deal with all the ghosts.
- 57:44Speaker 4: Vampires. All the different paranormal things thrown in with a
- 57:48Speaker 4: bunch of partying dorky kids.
- 57:50Speaker 5: What else was on this vampire tour?
- 57:54Speaker 10: The one that stuck out because most of the stories,
- 57:57Speaker 10: I'm like, whatever, you could probably kind of explain this
- 58:00Speaker 10: away but during the depression these two brothers just moved
- 58:04Speaker 10: to town and they rented a third there's an apartment
- 58:09Speaker 10: on the third story of this building and right away
- 58:13Speaker 10: all their neighbors loved them everybody who knew who they
- 58:15Speaker 10: were they were great and then one day the police
- 58:19Speaker 10: discovered this little girl walking around that had cuts on
- 58:22Speaker 10: her arms and And she said, these two guys have
- 58:27Speaker 10: been drinking my blood. And they said, well, can you
- 58:30Speaker 10: show us where this happened? And it turned out it
- 58:33Speaker 10: was these two guys' house. And so they, of course,
- 58:39Speaker 10: the cops break in. The two brothers aren't there. But
- 58:41Speaker 10: they find, like, six or seven other people tied up
- 58:44Speaker 10: in chairs with the same cuts on their arms.
- 58:47Speaker 8: What?
- 58:48Speaker 12: And, yeah. And in the.
- 58:49Speaker 10: Bathtub, they found... They estimate anywhere between three and ten
- 58:55Speaker 10: people's worth of human remains.
- 58:58Speaker 4: I like that measurement.
- 59:01Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 59:01Speaker 4: Ten people's worth.
- 59:02Speaker 10: And it's where... Well, they said they couldn't tell, but
- 59:05Speaker 10: it was just like this goopy mess.
- 59:07Speaker 6: It's like, can we narrow that down?
- 59:09Speaker 4: No.
- 59:10Speaker 10: Referred to it as a human lasagna. in the newspapers
- 59:15Speaker 10: oh my god and where it really cannibal's dream where
- 59:18Speaker 10: the story as weird as all that is is where
- 59:20Speaker 10: it really gets weird is the wait wait where it
- 59:23Speaker 10: really gets weird well they called they called in for
- 59:27Speaker 10: all the biggest you know burliest cops they had so
- 59:30Speaker 10: you had like ten cops waiting for these guys when
- 59:32Speaker 10: they finally showed up from work uh you know they
- 59:35Speaker 10: pounced on them and I said I think it said
- 59:38Speaker 10: they took them like an hour to do these two
- 59:41Speaker 10: really tiny like 115-pound guys who got away.
- 59:47Speaker 9: What?
- 59:47Speaker 10: And showed up for work the next day where the
- 59:49Speaker 10: cops were waiting for them. So they arrested them. They
- 59:52Speaker 10: were executed. And then the way, I don't know if
- 59:56Speaker 10: you know anything about the graves in New Orleans. They
- 59:59Speaker 10: buried everybody above ground. About four years later, they had
- 1:00:03Speaker 10: to interior a family member in the same crypt. They
- 1:00:07Speaker 10: opened it up and, of course, the brothers were gone.
- 1:00:10Speaker 10: And there was no sign of a break-in, no sign
- 1:00:14Speaker 10: of things being moved around.
- 1:00:15Speaker 5: Oh, God.
- 1:00:17Speaker 15: Yeah.
- 1:00:19Speaker 10: And that apartment had sat empty for the past 70
- 1:00:22Speaker 10: years or so. And now a new developer came in
- 1:00:26Speaker 10: and they bought it. And they've rented it out to
- 1:00:29Speaker 10: several people over the last three or four years, none
- 1:00:31Speaker 10: of which have stayed more than three months.
- 1:00:33Speaker 4: Wow.
- 1:00:34Speaker 10: And several of them have said we have woken up
- 1:00:37Speaker 10: in the middle of the night to two pale guys
- 1:00:39Speaker 10: trying to bite us.
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: Oh, no.
- 1:00:42Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: Oh, no. So you're planning your next trip now is
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: what you're telling me.
- 1:00:48Speaker 5: That's a new horror movie.
- 1:00:50Speaker 10: Now, imagine being told all of that information at midnight.
- 1:00:54Speaker 10: When you're looking at the building, six beers into it.
- 1:00:58Speaker 10: Just screaming.
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: This is New Orleans. Yeah.
- 1:01:01Speaker 7: Stop screaming.
- 1:01:01Speaker 10: I mean, the other stories were creepy, but they were
- 1:01:03Speaker 10: the typical, oh, you know, this guy shows in town.
- 1:01:07Speaker 10: He lived here for a number of years, and he
- 1:01:09Speaker 10: never aged. And then all of a sudden, this happened.
- 1:01:12Speaker 10: And then, oh, he just disappeared in the middle of
- 1:01:14Speaker 10: the night.
- 1:01:15Speaker 4: But that one, though.
- 1:01:16Speaker 10: And then when I looked into it a little bit more,
- 1:01:19Speaker 10: it was like, ah, there's actually like historical record of
- 1:01:22Speaker 10: all this stuff.
- 1:01:24Speaker 5: Do you know what their names were?
- 1:01:25Speaker 10: I want to say they were called the Carter Brothers.
- 1:01:27Speaker 5: I'm looking this up later.
- 1:01:29Speaker 4: This is wild.
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: I'm going to freak my boyfriend out.
- 1:01:32Speaker 4: Everyone make it.
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: Oh my goodness.
- 1:01:35Speaker 10: Oh, and they showed us a convent, which the tour
- 1:01:38Speaker 10: guide is convinced that they're keeping vampires on the upper floor.
- 1:01:44Speaker 10: Like they're keeping them in prison so they don't.
- 1:01:46Speaker 5: It's like that Twilight Zone episode.
- 1:01:49Speaker 2: Kind of.
- 1:01:49Speaker 13: What's that one?
- 1:01:50Speaker 10: The Howling Man?
- 1:01:51Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: Yeah, the Carter brothers, okay.
- 1:01:56Speaker 10: Because according to this guy, older vampires need to feed.
- 1:02:01Speaker 10: They can go 30, 35 years without feeding. According to him,
- 1:02:06Speaker 10: every 32 years or so, there's a report of missing
- 1:02:11Speaker 10: people or people found, you know, dead people found with
- 1:02:15Speaker 10: blood missing or whatever. That coincides to people noticing the
- 1:02:20Speaker 10: shutters being open on this convent.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Wow!
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: This is another episode of the Night Stalkers. Yeah. As
- 1:02:28Speaker 4: watched on my antennae. Which then just means it got
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: ripped off by X-Files.
- 1:02:34Speaker 10: Either way.
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: But he acknowledged that that's where he ripped all his
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: cool ideas off of. Because Night Stalkers is awesome and
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: nobody paid attention to it. So there are some similar
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: to that. So. But it's been a long time, so
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: I think you said it. We should turn this into
- 1:02:49Speaker 4: a movie. So let's start writing that right now.
- 1:02:52Speaker 5: God, I mean, can you imagine living in that apartment now?
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: Oh, no.
- 1:02:57Speaker 10: Well, that was my first thought. I was like, oh,
- 1:02:59Speaker 10: let's fill up the lease right now. My wife is like,
- 1:03:02Speaker 10: I don't even like looking at this building. We need
- 1:03:04Speaker 10: to walk away quickly.
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: They have the same bathtub.
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: Just putting your Mr.
- 1:03:10Speaker 10: Bubbles in there.
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: That's my thing. Do you think they pitch it.
- 1:03:15Speaker 5: That way now?
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: Or is it just like, here you go, just sign
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: the lease. And they don't bring it up? Or it's
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: just like, okay, we want to bring weird goth kids
- 1:03:23Speaker 4: in here. Just sign the lease now, kids.
- 1:03:25Speaker 10: I'm guessing it's to, you know, they rent to people
- 1:03:29Speaker 10: who are originally from out of town. Because apparently all
- 1:03:33Speaker 10: the school kids in New Orleans know this stuff.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: It's the big creepy house in the neighborhood. We all
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: had that, right?
- 1:03:40Speaker 6: The human lasagna house.
- 1:03:41Speaker 10: Oh, no.
- 1:03:44Speaker 8: Yeah, you'd think they would just rent that out night
- 1:03:46Speaker 8: by night to ghost hunters.
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:03:48Speaker 4: At this point, you can kind of do that.
- 1:03:51Speaker 10: Well, there are places like that. I mean, on our
- 1:03:53Speaker 10: way down there, we stayed at a Civil War era
- 1:03:56Speaker 10: mansion that was supposed to be haunted. And we didn't
- 1:04:00Speaker 10: see anything.
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: I want my money back. I want a ghost, damn you.
- 1:04:07Speaker 10: Well, my wife asked, can we have the room that's
- 1:04:09Speaker 10: least haunted? Well, here's what the guy said. He was like, well,
- 1:04:13Speaker 10: here's your pick of the rooms that are open. A
- 1:04:16Speaker 10: little girl died in this room and has been spotted
- 1:04:19Speaker 10: in there several times. This room, during the Civil War,
- 1:04:23Speaker 10: when the house was turned into a hospital, this served
- 1:04:26Speaker 10: as the morgue. And then this room was where they
- 1:04:29Speaker 10: did the surgery where a lot of people died. So
- 1:04:32Speaker 10: he's like, I think that one is probably going to
- 1:04:35Speaker 10: be your best bet.
- 1:04:35Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 1:04:38Speaker 5: Like, I'll just sleep in the kitchen.
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: Thank you. Most least haunted, please.
- 1:04:43Speaker 11: All right.
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: Well, I think that's a good way to round. Start
- 1:04:51Speaker 4: planning your vacations now, people. It's time. And it's been
- 1:04:56Speaker 4: a while. Rarely do we have plans coming together where
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: we can give you the heads up. But here, I
- 1:05:01Speaker 4: can actually do it in the episode officially for the
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: Secret Circle. So.
- 1:05:09Speaker 4: Okay, kids, get out your decoder pins.
- 1:05:13Speaker 10: For you members of the Secret Circle.
- 1:05:16Speaker 4: In an upcoming episode, we will be watching and discussing
