- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the office show covering the mighty Gulf, the NFL, pop culture, drinking culture and of course.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: I sure is.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you're your host, out for our T.I.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_00]: in myself.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: We're on the list of the offices of Mid-Maric Brave and myself.
- 0:22[SPEAKER_01]: And we lied.
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: We said this would be the last episode of the season.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_01]: And it's not.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: It's the next to last episode of the season.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_01]: Sometimes I have issues counting, Merrick.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm usually really, really good at this, right?
- 0:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, you know, I'm deadly with a calculator, okay?
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you sit me in front of a calculator and I'll get you a number for pretty much anything on earth.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: But I couldn't figure out that we still had ads that we owed through next week.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's okay, right?
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: If you love us, it's a good thing.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: You get one more week.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: And if you hate us, then yeah, go fuck yourself.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: You got to listen to us for an extra week.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if you hate us, you could celebrate that there's only one week left, right?
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: You know?
- 1:13[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, you could tune in to hate listen to us next week for the last time until you hear us again sometime next year in what?
- 1:21[SPEAKER_01]: May.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, yeah.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So everyone's a winner.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_01]: But if you want to participate in these shows, you want to watch us do this live.
- 1:30[SPEAKER_01]: You got to become a member of our discord and to do that.
- 1:32[SPEAKER_01]: You got to go to discord.gg forward slash only fence.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_01]: If you become a member there, all access for four ninety nine a month.
- 1:42[SPEAKER_01]: All right, Mark, I don't know if you heard me yesterday, but I was lamenting all the lying that goes on about two a tongue of a law.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: The latest lying was on good morning football where they were just making up stats.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: Willy Colone said that two had never beaten a team that that is one ten or more games that he was on five turns out he has seven wins.
- 2:06[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, so that was that was just more than a little false.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's really, really false.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: But that was yesterday.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_01]: Today it's different.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: Today what we're learning is that Mike Florio is obsessed with tracking this franchise.
- 2:27[SPEAKER_01]: and it's quarterback and for the most part it's it's it's head coach it's owner pretty much every aspect of this team and he has a new strategy by the way he has two videos out today on the and it's built around this strategy and the strategy is this some disgruntled fan on Twitter or elsewhere it could be Facebook it could be YouTube comment section which are the worst by the way
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: Invent or creates out a whole cloth, some type of narrative or controversy.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: And he sends it into Mike Florio, his Q&A session.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: He kind of does like what we do, but more as Polish.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: and just ask them a question.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like, for example, Merrick, if I sent you a question that asked, uh, Alph, he's murdered forty five people.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: How do you feel about hosting a show with a murderer of four or forty five people?
- 3:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what would be a response?
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I think I'd have to pass on that opportunity.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but if you really hated me, you would elaborate on it, right?
- 3:43[SPEAKER_01]: And just make believe that me murdering forty five people is true, right?
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: I suppose, yeah.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: I have to believe what anyone says.
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Mike Florier, that's what he's taken to doing and he's done two episodes today.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: Basically on that, I won't mention this guy's name because he is like infamous on YouTube comment sections and Twitter.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_01]: Let's just say he's like a known mal content in the dolphin Twitter community.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_01]: He sends in a thing basically asking him why is all of Miami media making excuses for Mike McDaniel and his incompetence, which I don't know that we are.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_01]: I think we're the ones who kind of created the heat under his seat.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: No?
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: Because I think the criticisms, yeah, the criticisms have been fair and he will have every opportunity to address those criticisms, but it hasn't happened yet.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: So we'll see what happens.
- 4:48[SPEAKER_00]: But no, you're right, Alf.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: We've been more than fair in terms of criticism regarding Mike McDaniel.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_01]: So Mike Floria just ceases upon that and just goes on and on for about four minutes about how everything was garbage.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: The one that I can't wait for is that Mina Times is doing her division for division preview.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I think she does the AFC East either tomorrow or Friday or I'm in tomorrow or yeah, Friday.
- 5:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'm dying to hear that one.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, the constant drumbeat on Twitter and YouTube and elsewhere on this team.
- 5:33[SPEAKER_01]: And it's kind of the point where it's just negative propaganda.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like what's the point of all this?
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like what's the point of this seriously?
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you know what we can look at this.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, one of two ways, right?
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: We can sit here and listen to these people trash the dolphins.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: So we can get mad and we can get offended and we can fight with these people.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_00]: Or we can remember that for the last couple seasons, people have loved the Miami dolphins.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: An amazing offensive system system.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_00]: Mike McDaniels is genius.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_00]: Two a tongue out by low has got it figured out.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: Tyre Kill is is the greatest wide receiver whoever lived.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: He was ranked number one in the NFL top one hundred just last season.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: And what did that get us?
- 6:18[SPEAKER_00]: No playoff victories.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: Didn't even make the playoffs last year.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_00]: And all of those people were wrong, so to speak.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully, maybe they can be wrong again this year.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: And actually, the dolphins can win a playoff game for the first time in a quarter century.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's my hope, at least.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what I don't understand is like, what's the whole point?
- 6:41[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what are you getting?
- 6:43[SPEAKER_01]: If you're a national media outlet, what are you getting by repeating all of this negative BS about this team and just trashing this team at every single turn?
- 6:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like, what's the point?
- 6:56[SPEAKER_01]: Like, where's the benefit?
- 6:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't understand the benefit.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: I understand the downside, the downside is actually depressing the numbers of content creators across the board.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know why they would want to do that.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: We're not in direct competition.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there's, there's, there's fan base, easier to dial up.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, do those fans get in their feelings more so than, than other franchises across the NFL?
- 7:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but lately they just been sitting around clapping like seals at all this stuff.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, they love it.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: They love all this negativity and like there was a poll that and there was others.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_01]: There's other content creators that were talking about this poll that a lot of respondents on it.
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: I believe it was Joe Scheid who conducted the poll.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: and seventeen percent of dolphin fans are rooting rooting like that's that's how the question is written like the question the question doesn't give you like you know great you know options okay it just gives you like the bare minimum options like winning one playoff game you know or winning the division right but one of the options was having a disaster season and everybody getting fired and seventeen percent of people voted for this
- 8:15[SPEAKER_01]: Now, you got it.
- 8:16[SPEAKER_00]: Why would anyone ever root for a terrible season that way, right?
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: You can, you can dislike players, you can dislike coaches, but you're always rooting for them to win.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_00]: It, it, it, it, it, it's good for you as a fan of the team.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: If the team wins, whether you like the individual players or not, like, why would you ever as a fan of a franchise root for them to fail?
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: Makes no sense, Alf makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it makes no sense whatsoever even if if you take like let's say out of that seventeen percent let's say I don't know Let's say a quarter of them are just trolling that'll make a lot of sense, okay
- 8:56[SPEAKER_01]: It still leaves a massive number of people that are actually rooting for a disaster.
- 9:01[SPEAKER_01]: And if you go and you dig a little bit deeper in Twitter, there are some that are actually because I've seen them.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_01]: They've shown up in my timeline arguing with me saying, maybe we want a disaster because that way everybody will get fired and they'll get rid of the quarterback and they'll do this.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm thinking to myself, they're going to get rid of the quarterback that has guaranteed fifty five million dollars next season.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: They're not.
- 9:25[SPEAKER_01]: So if you're rooting for a disaster season this year, you're basically rooting to not be a fan of this team ever again, because then you got to root for two disaster seasons in a row.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't get this.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_01]: I really don't get this.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: And what's worse is that there's some content creators out there that are purposefully shit talking this team to depress, I don't know, their own audiences.
- 9:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I don't get this.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: If you, if the dolphins end up being as bad as some of these haters predict they will be, that's not gonna be good for those creators.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: When teams are bad, fans tune out.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: They find other things to occupy their time with.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: It serves no one to have the team that they're covering, whether you're a fan of the team content creator, local media, national media, it serves nobody.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: when the team is poor.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: You're not going to get extra extra clicks when the team sucks.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: People are just going to listen to comedy podcasts or audiobooks or music.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_00]: And what I mean, they're not going to tune in to your opinions on the trashiest franchise in the NFL.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: If that's what these people believe the dolphins are going to be.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I don't understand it either.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_01]: And, you know, it's July ninth.
- 10:47[SPEAKER_01]: Like they haven't even started playing games.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_01]: They haven't even gotten into training camp.
- 10:50[SPEAKER_01]: And everybody just seems very interested in tracking this team at every turn.
- 10:55[SPEAKER_00]: This is the time of year when hopes brings a new, right?
- 10:58[SPEAKER_00]: This is the time of year when all thirty two fan bases feel like their team has a shot.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I get it.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: The dolphins had a disappointing season last year.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't good.
- 11:09[SPEAKER_00]: But I feel that they have improved this roster, right?
- 11:13[SPEAKER_00]: They lost a couple pieces, Jalen Ramsey,
- 11:16[SPEAKER_00]: was a loss, but they got back, mink of Fitzpatrick in that trade, which, you know, was a lot more than anybody was expecting, you know, and I mean, but they've
- 11:26[SPEAKER_00]: The interior defensive line, they've shored up the interior offensive line.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_00]: They still have to a tongue-by-law, you know, and we every Dolphins podcast, you got to put the caveat.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_00]: If he stays healthy, he's one of the top ten quarterbacks in the NFL.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_00]: They still have Devon H. And they still have Tyree Kill and Jalen Water.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: They've shored up, in my opinion, the wide receiver room with the addition of Nick Westbrook, Keene.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that the continued development of Malik Washington.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, maybe the tight end room takes a step back, but I don't think the tight end should be a focus of this offense outside of blocking ability anyways.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_00]: And when you acquire somebody like a pharaoh brown in that tight end room, I think you actually might have got better at what you're asking your tight ends to do anyways.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think this team is going to be significantly worse than last year's team.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_00]: And if two of us days healthy, I think they're going to actually be a lot better, which is an unpopular opinion surrounding the Miami dolphins right now.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: There's people in the three YPC discord that would disagree with that sentiment and would say that the dolphins are going to be an object failure in twenty twenty five.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: And I just don't see it.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think this team
- 12:41[SPEAKER_00]: is due for a lucky year in the health department.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: It can't be every single year, year after year, that all of your top players get injured.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: We're due for a lucky year.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that twenty twenty five is that year.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: I think this team makes the playoffs.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think this team has a shot at winning their first playoff game in a quarter century.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: And if you think otherwise, then you can live your sad little miserable life.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm going to keep smiling over here because I feel pretty solid about this year.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: All right, we're gonna go to break and when we come back, we're gonna talk about a few other things that surround this team.
- 13:15[SPEAKER_01]: But first, these words.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_01]: And we are back.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Mark, we've done, and I went back and looked at this.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_01]: We've done five shows in a row talking about maybe next week we'll have a cornerback.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_01]: We're still here.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: We are still here.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_00]: And not only are we still here, we have the father
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: of one of the cornerbacks that we've been rumored to be interested in that being a Sante Samuel Jr., you know, former New England Patriot, a Sante Samuel Sr., seems to hate this Dolphins organization.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: Seems to think Mike McDaniel is a pushover, you know, he's drinking from the cup of Mike Florio as we talked about earlier in this episode.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that hurts juniors chances of signing with the Miami Dolphins out?
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so.
- 14:10[SPEAKER_01]: The rumor is that junior and senior are not all too close and when it comes down to it, junior, you know, lives down here.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: If they offered them a contract, I think he would take it.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think they've offered them a contract.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: I think they've had some contact, but I don't think they've offered them a contract.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: What concerns me is that I do know that they've offered a contract to Russell Douglas, and he hasn't signed on the dotted line yet, and I think that that's the clear cut best option out there.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_01]: I think Russell Douglas is easily the best player available right now at the position.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_01]: So that's who I would go after first, but he hasn't signed yet.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_01]: So that's a little bit concerning.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think that it just could be as simple as the dolphins are just holding to their.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_01]: Their budget.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: And Russell Doug was looking at it and saying, damn, it's come to this.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: I got to play for that.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: I do think so.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's exactly what it is.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think you hit the nail on the head there off.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, even just looking at the whole Janu Smith saga.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he was making four million dollars.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: The dolphins were comfortable paying John who smith four million dollars.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: John who smith.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_00]: May I remind you was comfortable playing for four million dollars last year.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: And if he wasn't, he wouldn't have signed the deal.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_00]: And then all of a sudden he has a good season because wide receivers are injured and he got back up quarterback's in and everybody knows that a tight end is a backup quarterback's best friend.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_00]: He's a safety blanket.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_00]: and he's playing in Mike McDaniel's scheme and you know he did have some games with two a tongue-of-eye lower that were very productive and all of a sudden Johnny Smith has a fantastic season for the Miami Dolphins actually the most productive tight-end season for the Miami Dolphins and all of a sudden four million dollars isn't good enough for Johnny Smith he wants twelve million dollars the Dolphin said
- 16:01[SPEAKER_00]: Now, you can get your twelve million dollars, but you ain't gonna get it from us.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_00]: We have a budget that we'd like to stick to.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's not just, in the tight-end room, I think that's for a myriad of positions across this roster that could use a little bit of upgrading this cornerback position being one of them.
- 16:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think if Razool Douglas had gotten the offer that he was looking for, he would have already signed on the dotted line.
- 16:29[SPEAKER_00]: I think if
- 16:31[SPEAKER_00]: A Sante Samuel, Jr.
- 16:33[SPEAKER_00]: Not saying you're here who clearly hates Miami and everything regarding the Miami Dolphins.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: But I think if Jr.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: was offered a contract that he deemed acceptable, he would have signed as well.
- 16:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I think Chris Greer is doing Chris Greer things.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_00]: Some people are okay with that.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: Some people hate that.
- 16:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, the Chris Greer hate as well documented within this fan base.
- 16:54[SPEAKER_00]: But I think he has a number.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's sticking to it.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel like if
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: The closer we get to training camp starting, the more likely it is that one of these guys ends up signing, you know, we're just a couple weeks away from that.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like you said, if I think residual Douglass makes a lot of sense.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_00]: But seeing, and I know he's coming off of injury, which people will joke, that's a classic Chris Greer signing.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_00]: But I think if a Sante Samuel Jr.,
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: is willing to accept a low dollar deal.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think I'd be interested in that just for the fact that he's he's twenty five years old, right?
- 17:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, maybe his best football is ahead of him and maybe it is a John who Smith situation where you're able to lowball him.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_00]: He accepts the deal because nobody else is biting
- 17:43[SPEAKER_00]: and you get a season where he vastly outperforms his contract and then we're doing the whole song and dance next off season about does he get a raise does he not get a raise does he hold out but next season and especially the season after that the dolphins will have a little bit more cap space to give these guys these extensions especially if you're a young piece that could be seen as a building block for the future so uh... i'm cool with either one i'd love
- 18:10[SPEAKER_00]: the dolphins being able to sign both if if that's possible if they both would accept low dollar amounts and then they can compete in camp to see who who claims that that starting job but what do you think of somebody right next week for a final episode are we are we getting a we get a veteran corner
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: I want to say no, because that way it will happen.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody writes in the chat, felt like Rasul Douglas lost a few steps last year.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_01]: Why add him when I think you have potentially a better play, better play from Sante Samuel Jr.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_01]: if he's able to stay healthy, there it is again.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_01]: If healthy, maybe a son-tay ends up being like, brink rhymes.
- 18:52[SPEAKER_01]: Signing coming off of injury.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_01]: Now that's optimistic.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_01]: Brink rhymes was a much, much better player than a son-tay Samu Jr.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_01]: has ever been.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_01]: The problem I see going forward is a son-tay Samu Jr.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: had a neck injury and I believe he's not even clear for contact yet.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_01]: I think he's clear.
- 19:10[SPEAKER_01]: He was cleared for physical activity.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_01]: I know on July first.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_01]: I know that he was going to be cleared the first week of July.
- 19:17[SPEAKER_01]: So let's say July first for physical activity.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_01]: But for contact, I know he's not cleared yet.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't know.
- 19:26[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's a bigger risk than seeing if Russell Douglas really did lose all those steps from last year.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_01]: I think that the if you look at all if you put everything into one big basket and try to figure out You know, what's the best bet of all these players?
- 19:46[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's Russell Douglas.
- 19:47[SPEAKER_01]: I think two years ago I would've been stifong Gilmore But stifong Gilmore is kind of nowhere right now But two years ago stifong Gilmore was gonna cost you twelve million dollars a year Because that's what he cost the cowboys on a two-year deal
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: So, yes, I'm still in on Russell Douglas.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_01]: How about this?
- 20:04[SPEAKER_01]: This is a novel idea.
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: How about both?
- 20:05[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, Russell Douglas and get a Sunday Samuel Junior and just let a Sunday Samuel Junior work his way back on his own time table.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: They can't be that expensive.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: I'm anxious at this point because we are today's ninth, okay?
- 20:28[SPEAKER_01]: The twenty second rookies a report a little bit earlier, but the vets report on the twenty second.
- 20:34[SPEAKER_01]: Ideally, you want to have these guys in the fold on the twenty first because the twenty first is when they do the physicals and their weigh-ins, right?
- 20:42[SPEAKER_01]: But twenty second is the first day of practice.
- 20:45[SPEAKER_01]: We are talking thirteen days here.
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: We're out of two weeks.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_01]: You kind of want to get this done, don't you?
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't know.
- 20:57[SPEAKER_00]: I think so.
- 20:58[SPEAKER_00]: We got an interesting question in the chat here.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: Something I've been wondering about.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_00]: How does that sealer feel about his contract situation and is he looking to get more money?
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: I know he wasn't at all of OTA's.
- 21:10[SPEAKER_00]: What's there for some of it?
- 21:12[SPEAKER_00]: Do you think that's sealer is in line for an extension right now?
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: He is kind of hitting that age where
- 21:18[SPEAKER_00]: you do wonder about the athleticism is it going to drop off a cliff for past thirty here uh... or nearing out remember is exact age but do you think that sealers okay with the money he's making right now is he looking for a little bit of uh... a bump in pay i believe he's twenty nine uh... let me check uh... i think he deserves it i think he deserves new money that's if i think he does too
- 21:43[SPEAKER_00]: He's been a great player, but he's also been such a good soldier and a great teammate.
- 21:47[SPEAKER_00]: I think you reward those guys, not only for their performance and their satisfaction, but so you can show the rest of the locker room.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_00]: And the dolphins admittedly have been kind of bad at that over the last few years, not being able to pay guys like Robert Hunt and Christian Wilkins and Johnny Smith and
- 22:04[SPEAKER_00]: And rewarding guys like Jalen Ramsey and Tyree Kale guys that maybe aren't the best teammates.
- 22:09[SPEAKER_00]: I think you need that kind of feel good extension.
- 22:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Zack Seeler is a prime candidate for that.
- 22:15[SPEAKER_01]: Zack Seeler turns thirty on September the seventh.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_01]: So he's twenty nine right now.
- 22:22[SPEAKER_01]: You don't know how old this makes makes me feel.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: He was born on September seventh.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: September seventh nineteen ninety five.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 22:33[SPEAKER_00]: He's he's younger than my girlfriend and my girlfriend's nine years younger than me.
- 22:37[SPEAKER_01]: The nineteen ninety five is when this guy was born.
- 22:42[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, but he missed he missed the first couple bulls championships.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 22:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's something.
- 22:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, like if I were to something, I'm not a sent to say I'm a junior.
- 22:53[SPEAKER_01]: If I were this guy, I would I if I was actually like, oh my god, I need
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: I need, you know, I need something.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: Do something for me here.
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: I need a little bit more money.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: And you think it happens?
- 23:08[SPEAKER_01]: Do you think we give them something?
- 23:11[SPEAKER_01]: Hmm.
- 23:13[SPEAKER_00]: It's tough with the way they've been doing deals or not doing deals this off season.
- 23:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's tough to see them actually extending a player who's about to be thirty by the time the season starts or close to it.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think Chris Greer has buyers remorse on the extensions for Tyre Kill and Jalen Ramsey.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: to aging but productive players.
- 23:32[SPEAKER_00]: Zack Seeler is, I mean, he's in that, he's in that same bucket.
- 23:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's, he's great and he's been awesome and I would pay him.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_00]: But he's in Chris Greer looks at him like another Tyree killer, Jalen Ransie and aging, yet productive player who crossed my fingers, knock on one, hope it doesn't happen, but could drop off a cliff in terms of production.
- 23:52[SPEAKER_01]: So you think they're a little bit a little bit gun shy to open up that checkbook.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_00]: I wonder if that may be the case, you know, because if it's me, I'm extending Zack Seeler the moment he walks into my office and asks for it.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: I just love him.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's great.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think they should get over it, okay?
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I'll tell you why.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_01]: Certain players will notice this after a while.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_01]: And there's nothing wrong with sticking to your positional budgets or whatever.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_01]: But, you know, certain players, you know, free agents will see this, and especially that's because
- 24:31[SPEAKER_01]: You still are, I wouldn't say you're in that window, but you want to get to the window where you might patch things with a few veterans to fill out a roster.
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: And you're going to want to go out there and get these guys for below market deals.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: If you're holding up guys like Zack Sealer, I don't think that that helps you in that regard going forward.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know what I mean?
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that's good business, really.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: You know, somebody asking in the chat, what do you think, eighteen, twenty million per year over three years?
- 25:06[SPEAKER_01]: That's pretty much what it will do.
- 25:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like I'd say, actually more.
- 25:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm thinking, I thought it was not like a joke yesterday, but I kind of think this is the number, eighty million for four years for Zaxila.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: something like that with new money coming in in year one, which means this year they'll be ripping up that contract adding on money this year because they can because they have a little bit of calf space.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: Now can they afford that?
- 25:36[SPEAKER_01]: Would they want to pay that?
- 25:39[SPEAKER_01]: Fear and desire, right?
- 25:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like not as soon as I tell you, you got to commit eighty million dollars for the next four years for a guy that on his expiring contract year will be thirty four years old.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: What does that do for you?
- 25:55[SPEAKER_00]: Now I'm getting gunshot out.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's kind of like those same people that were like, oh, yeah, Jonathan Smith wants a raise.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: I'll give him six million instead of four million.
- 26:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's like what, Jonathan Smith is in asking for six million, dude.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Jonathan Smith wants twelve.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, same guy.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to do that deal.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_01]: same guy as how much guarantee though yeah he says forty fifty of it yet pretty much that's uh... it's usually that that's the formula that that veterans follow agents follow in the NFL for veterans it's usually half of the total number and it's pro-rated pre-year
- 26:31[SPEAKER_01]: If you think about it in that regard, then yeah, that's okay.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: But are you gonna front load some of it?
- 26:38[SPEAKER_01]: Are you gonna back load some of it?
- 26:40[SPEAKER_01]: My guess is that you're gonna backload it because you owe two a lot of money next year and you don't want to go into the two a cookie jar to get more capsules.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_01]: So you're thinking about having maybe a big fat guarantee in his year, thirty three year, thirty four year.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 27:00[SPEAKER_00]: This is a problem.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, here's the problem.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_01]: On Twitter, everybody says, yeah, extend this guy, extend that guy, extend the other guy.
- 27:09[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they all talk about extending people, but on their terms, because they think Zack Cedar will just gladly accept a two year, thirty million dollar contract.
- 27:20[SPEAKER_01]: When he knows if he goes to free agency, he'll get a four year, eighty million dollar contract.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_00]: And at that deal, at that price, you're basically banking or rolling the dice that Zack Seeler is the next clay as Campbell.
- 27:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's going to play extremely well and live up to that contract into his mid to late thirties.
- 27:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and most defensive tackles fall off of the face of the earth past like, thirty two, thirty three.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: You know, very rare that a guy is really productive into his mid thirties.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: Clay's Campbell is an anomaly.
- 27:58[SPEAKER_01]: We're gonna have to end it here.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: But we will be back next week.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you have anything on the wrestling front.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_01]: I haven't been watching lately.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_00]: No, I mean, we're kind of in that low work where summer slams going to get people kind of intrigued again in the next few weeks, but right now they're kind of just tread and water a little bit.
- 28:22[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, they'll start getting interesting again as soon as we're done with this final episode next week.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 28:31[SPEAKER_01]: So we're going to call it right here.
- 28:32[SPEAKER_01]: I asked you this three weeks in a row.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: New corner back by next Wednesdays, Shelton.
- 28:41[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna ride with you out for the first time in a long time.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna say, yes, I think it gets done.
- 28:45[SPEAKER_00]: And I think, you know, you were talking to Russell Douglas, I think it's gonna be a Santiago Junior and the chaos merchant.
- 28:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the chaos merchant in me hopes that that's the case because I wanna hear what senior has to say on the podcast if that does happen.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, we shall see, but we'll talk about it next week, but till then.
- 29:12[SPEAKER_00]: Thanks for listening to the Offseason, American Out.
- 29:15[SPEAKER_00]: Until next time, raise your fans, raise your glasses, and we'll talk to you next time.
