- 0:00[SPEAKER_07]: Welcome on into the Big Play Cleveland show presented by Fandwell.
- 0:05[SPEAKER_07]: I'm Nick Pidone joining me in studio Cleveland baseball legend Carlos Bierga, Chris McNeill, joins the program as well and we've got our producer Pat McGuire holding it down in studio with us.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_07]: Carlos, what happened, buddy?
- 0:22[SPEAKER_07]: I feel like last time we talked, we were talking guardians.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_07]: Get to go to the world series, guardians.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_07]: Get to go all the way.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_07]: We were right in the high from the trade deadline.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_07]: Obviously, still a lot of season left, a lot of baseball to be played, a whole baseball to be played over the next couple of months, which is exciting.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_07]: We got to get this thing figured out with our with our guardians band.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: I make a high everybody what I want to for me to be here today and I'm you know what I see believe I see believe I know that we made the right move bringing right on the bad bringing a lefty bringing these two guys you know how many are we as they got since they got here 17 our guys so
- 1:00[SPEAKER_00]: That's good.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: He now got three.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_00]: So you put a 20 RBI's of the three guys they got caught up about hitting.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Pitching, first time in the hit pitch, it wasn't that good.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: They said go one, he keeps us in the game because when you get, when they score against you three rounds, that means the quality starts.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_00]: So he win the game, we won't want to stop for that.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: But the other guys, we need to step up.
- 1:23[SPEAKER_00]: We need to get better.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: something that I then I've been thinking about you know the last two days is about maybe we have to make a move maybe go what we did last year because our fishing stuff in August the ERA is five eleven yeah it hasn't been good the pitching has struggled here Carlos and we are the only
- 1:47[SPEAKER_00]: starting fish stuff in mainly baseball.
- 1:49[SPEAKER_00]: They're being there the whole time.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody having go to the deal, nobody having a rest.
- 1:54[SPEAKER_00]: And last year, you remember when we was way back, we make a move to finish first, but it was because in August 15, something like that, we started using six starting pitcher.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we have it.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think we have it.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: I know that we are in a position right now because our hitting with men and base is being the case.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_00]: But we can let our fishing stuff get tired.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: We can get our boatmen to get, you know, to get, you know, putting more anything there.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: So we need to move something, you know, we need to come up with a strategy to go with sick preachers, maybe in the last part of the season, you know, for us to get going again, I believe.
- 2:34[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, the six-man rotation certainly did wonders for them last year, helped them erase that 15-and-a-half game, deficit that they faced in the American League Central Division, they won in the American League Central Division, once they made that switch that Carlos is imploring forward of switch from the five-man to the six-man rotation.
- 2:52[SPEAKER_07]: Chris, but this offense also has to wake up because the batting lineup has been anemic.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, and then unfortunate thing, I think we were all betting on and so was the front office of the Guardian.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_05]: So as once you got back Jose Ramirez, that's like making an additional move at the trade deadline.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_05]: But unfortunately, I think that hand injury and Carlos, you'll have to talk to this about playing through an injury.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_05]: I don't think it's totally healed.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_05]: It seems like not only is it affecting them offensively, but you're seeing that on the defensive side as well.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, at one point, dea decide, hey, it's worth it for him to continue to play through this thing, or you say, hey, let's sit him down for a while.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe even sit him down heck for the season.
- 3:33[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
- 3:34[SPEAKER_05]: It doesn't seem like a guy right now who's dealing well with that injury Carlos.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it's hard to see when we are used to see Rosa Ramirez go all the way hard, you know, in everything that he do, it's hard for us to watch it like that.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what, he want to be in there and I like the players to be in there like that.
- 3:52[SPEAKER_00]: I know that he made making me make one mistake here.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_00]: I'm yesterday or two days ago, he got another one.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_00]: But I think, you know, he gonna help us out in the last room.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_00]: You want Ramirez to be in that line.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_00]: You want him to be there because I know he gonna come through.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: He's playing hard.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm gonna say to you.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: He haven't tell me anything, but I know Jose Ramirez.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: When you come up with a surgery like that, it takes more time, you know, to be there.
- 4:17[SPEAKER_00]: And this guy was every day in the field running, throwing, taking one ball, you know, he want to be there with the players.
- 4:23[SPEAKER_00]: You know, he signed, he wanted the first thing that I want to say.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: I give a post to Jose Ramirez.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_00]: He wants to hear in this town.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_00]: That's why everybody talk about him.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: You know, good.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: And that's why even Medioli baseball, they put in one other best player in the game.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Even he's been hurt the whole year.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: So we are blessed to have Jose Ramirez.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to be okay with Jose Ramirez.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: And this thing's going to turn around.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: I know that we lived in so many guys in base.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's been the case.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: You know what, right now we left 28 players.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: and 3-game series against Detroit.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_00]: We need to get better.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: We need to put the body in play.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_00]: We need to you know to you know to move the guy over.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: Play Garbore.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_00]: More hit and run.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: More bants.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: We need to do the little things for us.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, if anybody has seen Garb's ball, you could please send it to the corner of Carnage in Ontario because it's missing right now.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_07]: It is missing.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_07]: I've got these offensive stats pulled up.
- 5:21[SPEAKER_07]: It's putrid guys really the batting average is a team 232 That's 27th in baseball.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_07]: There's only 30 teams runs scored 483 total or four per game That's 28th in baseball home runs 160 the bottom 5 in baseball and then team OPS is 28th in baseball So they're near the bottom and every category yet still they find themselves just for
- 5:47[SPEAKER_07]: games below 500, just four games out of first place in this American League Central Division as bad as this all seems and as bad as this recent stretch has been.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_07]: If you turn this thing around and I know that's the operative word there if, but if they turn this around, you do see a path where you can still finish this season ahead of everybody else.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I say, you need to stop playing bad.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_00]: And we need to stop winning serious.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: We have a win at serious.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_00]: in eight times in a row.
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: So those are the little things that we have to do.
- 6:19[SPEAKER_00]: We are home.
- 6:20[SPEAKER_00]: We're gonna be playing a home where we are supposed to be better.
- 6:23[SPEAKER_00]: We are right now 31, 32.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I don't know.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_00]: I home we are 28, I'm 31, we need to get better.
- 6:30[SPEAKER_00]: That's the key right there.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_00]: When you play in the home, you'll have to let everybody know.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is our house.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's the mentality that we have when we play here.
- 6:37[SPEAKER_00]: This is our house.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: When you come here, you better be ready.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: And we need to win.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: And on today, we have the man teaching there.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_00]: We got Gabby Williams, the sky.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: I just saw his number.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: 185 strikeout.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_00]: He keeps us in the game over time.
- 6:52[SPEAKER_00]: He's a warrior.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: I love that, and we need to start in Winni 3 today.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: Not too much over the next day.
- 6:58[SPEAKER_00]: We need to get going today, and we need everybody to step up.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_05]: Is it too much to ask of some of these young guys?
- 7:06[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, this is a lot that you're putting on chased a lot or right now to be hitting.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_05]: Travis Pizarna to be hitting, you know, and that's kind of the Guardian's way the last few years is relying on these young guys.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_05]: Is that realistic?
- 7:17[SPEAKER_05]: Is it really realistic to think that these guys can bring us to the promise land when they're still trying to work out their own games in the majors?
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: I think they can do it.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think they can do it.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think they've, you know, they got the experience already.
- 7:30[SPEAKER_00]: We have a rookie guy, the louder.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: He just came up to the building playoff last year.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: He's been having a great year for us.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_00]: He's been the man since July and August.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: He's been in there.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: But we have another guy that he's doing a really good steaming clump.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_00]: since you lost our game for 10, he's getting on base.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: We got the guys on bay, we just need to bring it in.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: When you left 28 guys on base, that's a lot.
- 7:57[SPEAKER_00]: That's a tease.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_00]: I got to say something to you.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know what happened?
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: We just died the record that we haven't had for how many, 10 years, 15 years ago.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: We don't have a strikeout in the last game.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: That'll happen.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: And we don't score the wrong.
- 8:13[SPEAKER_00]: And so those are the leading things that we need to get better.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: Boom the body play.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: Shocked up the way I used to do it.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: The way one sort of do it.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_00]: The way I did it.
- 8:24[SPEAKER_00]: Borrowed do it.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Boom the body play.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: When you got men on probation, you know how many times in the last one's time.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: He left one out of 11.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: We three men on base.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: We went out or less out.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: We need to put the body plate.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: Is that what is that?
- 8:41[SPEAKER_07]: Is that coaching?
- 8:42[SPEAKER_07]: Is that approach?
- 8:43[SPEAKER_07]: Like, like, like, what's going on?
- 8:45[SPEAKER_07]: Like, why is it why is it such a struggle this year?
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: It's you're putting pressure on yourself.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: You're putting pressure on yourself.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_00]: You want it right to look too much.
- 8:53[SPEAKER_00]: Put the body plate.
- 8:55[SPEAKER_00]: go through the middle.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_00]: Don't try to pull the ball.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_00]: Don't try to hit a Homer.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's that was my mentality.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: I, I, I, I bring in 90 of 100 runs.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_00]: Four years in a row, five years in a row.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: I put the body plate and I want to go through the middle.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: The way Miguel Cabrera, Albert Poehos and even even Barry Bowen's stuff.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: They talk about it.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_00]: They don't try to hit Homer's.
- 9:17[SPEAKER_00]: The Homer's they're going to come put the body plate and you're going to be okay.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's the key.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_07]: All right, Carlos, look in the head to what we've got this weekend, San Diego Padres in town.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_07]: We're talking a little bit about it before the show.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_07]: Maybe a little bit of a personal connection there with you with the Padres that stems back many years.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_07]: What are we looking for to this week?
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, San Diego for you.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_00]: and send the Alomar to here for your car and that was the best booth there ever happening in my life, and that's Cleveland 202.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: To grab me here, I feel like I'm born in Cleveland.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: That's it, this is my city.
- 9:54[SPEAKER_00]: For a week on Cleveland, that's the two places that I love.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what, this city is playing really good.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: There for Nando Tattis, you know, they started a year very strongly.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_00]: I look at what he's doing right now.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: My shadow is doing good.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, James O'Marrow, the center field is really good.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_00]: So we need to step up.
- 10:12[SPEAKER_00]: I'm fish better again post three guys because they kind of bid us in there.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_00]: So we need to I think we got the right picture on the first game.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: We had a guy being women.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_00]: I had to mention that again.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: and we need to play hard and guess the thing that really good in the second half is the San Diego partners.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_00]: And now they have something to play for because they are fighting to get to make it to the players.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_00]: Right now they are tired.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: We feel like they are tired with, you know, they are in the white car right now.
- 10:37[SPEAKER_00]: So it's going to be big and I want the friends to be there because we need you guys in there.
- 10:44[SPEAKER_05]: here's a story.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_05]: You mentioned Joe Carter was in that trade.
- 10:48[SPEAKER_05]: My uncle said a record with Joe Carter back in the minor leagues.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_05]: So Joe Carter at one point held the minor league record for home runs.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 10:58[SPEAKER_05]: And the picture he hit that home run off of to break the record was none other than Kevin Christon, which was my uncle back in the two loves to tell that story.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, they also played for the same teams as the alamars at one point back back way back in the day way back in the day But yeah, he made it all the way up to triple A and Eventually he heard his hurt his ankle so he never played in the majors, but yeah my uncle Kevin Christon
- 11:25[SPEAKER_07]: All right Carlos when when you know obviously we got the podries this weekend looking ahead to next week Which I know the guys never do you know they're just looking ahead to the you know that that day's opponent But I do just want to ask you about it because we've got you in here You look ahead to next week The Giants not a great baseball team you're hosting them in Cleveland the Rockies Not very good.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_07]: You're going out to course field the angels not very good either
- 11:51[SPEAKER_07]: is that an opportunity where they just got to get back to themselves is that an opportunity for them to really try to prove to themselves that they're capable of stacking a bunch of wins together because I look at this schedule and I see the team that we have and the pitching that we have in the line of on paper were better than all of these teams coming up.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_00]: This is the best time.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you for letting me know that these are coming because those are the things that you need to at least on one of those things.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: You have to win the series.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like this part of the day against the Chicago Cups, a couple days ago, they sweep, we need to do at least win the series or maybe one of them to sweep it.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_00]: So we can get, you know, we can get time because we know that Chicago watches they play really good.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: The hitting is been crazy.
- 12:38[SPEAKER_00]: They're all the team.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody told that we're going to go south, they keep playing better.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: They beat us.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: They win the series against us, you know, the three tigers.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: You know, in there, without without, without, without, you know, that, you know, my, established, that's what we need to come up.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, when we do series right here, and we have the team to do it.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_00]: They are no playing good.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_00]: They are going, but they're all going to give it to you.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: you have to take it away, and the mentality is, I scroll around the next night one more.
- 13:06[SPEAKER_00]: I want more.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_00]: You need to be hungry.
- 13:09[SPEAKER_00]: The mentality has to be unique.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_00]: You need to rest a little bit more.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: You need to eat really good because in the second half, that's when you start getting tired.
- 13:18[SPEAKER_00]: mentally and the body got stuck in the entire and you maybe if you heard get to the ballpark early you got your trainers there and that's the mentality that we have to have on the leaders they need to you know to you know to get every eight today's the big game today you know we need to win this game let's go we can do it that's the mentality you have to have a leader to step up in there
- 13:41[SPEAKER_07]: Chris, I was talking about this on the radio the other day.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_07]: Would you be surprised if the Guardians missed the postseason this year?
- 13:48[SPEAKER_07]: Just because I feel like this year, like on paper, the team should be better.
- 13:52[SPEAKER_07]: Like they've got a lot of talent here.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_07]: Delauders really good.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_07]: Bezato was the number one pick in the draft and started off his career really good.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_07]: It's a really good team with a really talented pitching staff, the bullpen I'm not so sure about, it is really a feeling just like they don't play Gartsball like last year's team did and that's kind of the difference between what last year wasn't what this year has been.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_05]: Well, if you had told me at the beginning of the season that Kwan was going to have overall a down year, we'd lose Jose for a significant amount of time and he'd come back and he wouldn't quite be to this point, that same Jose Ramirez so far.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_05]: I'd say, uh, we're in trouble because like we talk about all the time.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_05]: one of the facets of this team is bringing up young talent from Columbus and that is always going to be kind of a role of the dice for this for this squad because you never know how those guys are going to respond.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_05]: Sometimes it's really good.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_05]: Sometimes it's not.
- 14:53[SPEAKER_05]: We see a cow man's art.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_05]: good and now Kyle Mansardo now down back at Columbus.
- 14:58[SPEAKER_05]: So you see these guys running back and forth.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_05]: So you can't necessarily count on them, game in and game out, but you expect guys like quant and Jose Ramirez to be guys that, hey, we're just going to count on those guys, set those guys and forget it.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_05]: The rest of the lineup, it's going to be a work in progress.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_05]: And we're going to figure it out.
- 15:15[SPEAKER_05]: So with those guys down, it wouldn't surprise me at the beginning of the season knowing that we're not on the precipice of the playoffs as we sit right now.
- 15:23[SPEAKER_05]: But one of the redeeming factors, nobody in this division scares me.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_05]: And we talked about that at the beginning of the season too.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_05]: And as we sit right now, there's absolutely no reason why we shouldn't be able to turn it around.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, forget about what's happened here over the last couple of weeks, in really since the All Star Break.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_05]: this team, if they've got any resolve at all to turn things around, do it at home, do it this weekend.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_05]: And then you set yourself up because like we saw last year when we were 15 and half games back, you're never really out of it in this division.
- 15:56[SPEAKER_05]: And right now, we sit four games out.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_05]: That should not be a monumental hill to climb, especially with the starting pitching we're getting right now.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_05]: We've got to have, like you guys keep saying, the bullpen has failed us.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_05]: fully expect every year I come in for us to at least have a good bullpen because that seems to be part of the magic potion.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_05]: Good starting pitching a good rock solid bullpen and then hitting is going to be kind of iffy led by our veterans right now the bullpen is not holding up their end of the bargain either so we need them to turn it around and then like you say situational hitting got to get back to guard's ball if we can do that I think we still make the playoffs but I tell you what it's really easy to hang your head right now with what we've done
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: Well, you say, perfect.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't even have to talk, but you don't want If I'm the one that is an ultimate cop event, I got for the couple's.
- 16:47[SPEAKER_05]: I hear a good damn thing.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_00]: I have had a full day here in Carlisle.
- 16:51[SPEAKER_00]: I put a video on this go-bore Today before the game.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not showing everybody
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: what we did or in the close, what we did last year when we was 15 games back, to let this guy know, if we didn't last year, we can do it again but doing the little things, you know, the close house has to be, you know, pump it up, we need to be, you know, to everybody in the base to be ready, and you know what, everybody has to step up, not just the big guys, we don't, we can't open pressure to low and then to always come through with a homer or something to that, everybody has to step up.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: You have to win it.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_07]: Carlos, you mentioned like the clubhouse vibe, you know, when things were rocking in Cleveland, and obviously, you know, you were here with us last year during the 15 and a half game.
- 17:39[SPEAKER_07]: Come back, but you were a part of some teams that had some pretty epic comebacks in Cleveland and some epic win streak in Cleveland as well.
- 17:47[SPEAKER_07]: What's that feeling like when everybody's kind of buzzing, hit none all cylinders, and vibes are high, because the teams wouldn't have a bunch of games.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: when when when you're winning everything's really good, but but something that I like about Stephen Buck, he no less things go through so long.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: He right away get a meeting everybody going, because I don't want nobody to start pony fingers.
- 18:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, these guys don't catch in the ball.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_00]: We lost because of this because that that's something that I haven't seen this thing.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_00]: I'm tensed about that Stephen, but always step up with somebody's getting out of the line.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: He always step up and say, hey,
- 18:21[SPEAKER_00]: This is the way we play this game.
- 18:23[SPEAKER_00]: We know we're gonna win and he keep everybody going.
- 18:25[SPEAKER_00]: But you know what, you have to believe it.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_00]: You have to want it and we have to start today.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_00]: We cannot be waiting for tomorrow.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: The road to it is over.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_00]: This is a house and what you say is true.
- 18:37[SPEAKER_00]: We have the things to do with.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_00]: We need to win at least two games against San Diego partners.
- 18:42[SPEAKER_00]: Win the series and then start getting, you know, going with the, with the San Francisco and Colorado and the angels.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_00]: This is the best time of our, you know, a moment right now for the Cleveland Wildeers.
- 18:54[SPEAKER_00]: Let's go.
- 18:55[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do it.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do it.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: Let's do it.
- 18:57[SPEAKER_00]: Play in Garble.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_07]: Absolutely.
- 19:00[SPEAKER_07]: I'm looking at fan dual right now.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_07]: There are odds for the American League Central division.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_07]: The Guardian is still getting more respect than Minnesota Twins, which is really nice.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_07]: Chicago White Sox, the odds on favor to win this division right now, plus 100, so an even money bet on the White Sox to try to
- 19:21[SPEAKER_07]: plus 230 and then the Guardians Chris plus 490 before Minnesota at 7 to 1 and then the Kansas City Royals are obviously bringing up the rear.
- 19:30[SPEAKER_07]: Guardians still in it from an odds perspective, but 5 to 1 would be a pretty nice return if they find a way to turn this thing all around and to throw in the white socks here.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_07]: It's only 4 games.
- 19:38[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: I love it.
- 19:40[SPEAKER_00]: She's sprint training.
- 19:41[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody feed the audience to be there.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_00]: Nobody, everybody pick all the things Detroit, Tiger, and stuff like that.
- 19:48[SPEAKER_00]: And that's something that I like because when you show up, I'm feeling first on the last day of the season, the way we did it last year.
- 19:55[SPEAKER_00]: If we did it back the last year, we can do it again.
- 19:58[SPEAKER_00]: So believe guys, come on, let's do it.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_00]: Let's put it together and let's show up.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: Jose Ramirez, I don't know what I gonna do, but I gonna be praying for you today.
- 20:07[SPEAKER_00]: So the energy and the healing, stay in your hands and we can come back and do it again, guys.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, we definitely need Jose this weekend, Carlos, we do, we do.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_05]: How would you just hold the arm with that be?
- 20:18[SPEAKER_05]: You know, yeah, Jose goes out and just kind of recaptures that magic.
- 20:22[SPEAKER_05]: Just this weekend, imagine how much that changes the mindset, even of the fans, the fans are down, the fans are dog in this team.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_05]: And I don't blame the fans because right now, it doesn't look very good.
- 20:32[SPEAKER_07]: But it was a couple of homeruns man all the sudden it's party time.
- 20:37[SPEAKER_05]: It's like old Jake time back there As we start to get a little bit momentum in it builds, right Carlos?
- 20:43[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but you know what I had to get them through the family because I do the gates every day And at least we have 24 25,000 people every game in there.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_00]: That's really good.
- 20:52[SPEAKER_00]: I see a team like Tampa Bay.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_00]: They'd be first almost the whole year
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: 14,000, 16,000, how's that going to happen, man?
- 21:00[SPEAKER_00]: You know what, and that gives bless to our friends that been there, they believe in this thing, and I believe in this team, and we're going to come back, and finish strong, to go back to the play of, and we're going to be here, in big play, talking about the drive in October.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we want.
- 21:17[SPEAKER_05]: Absolutely, I might miss the optimistic approach from Carlos lives to God's ears.

- 24:19[SPEAKER_07]: I'm Nick Padoan, Chris McNeill, joins the program as well, Pat McWyer, in studio holding it down from a production standpoint.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_07]: Big Day tomorrow for our Cleveland Browns is their preseason opener.
- 24:35[SPEAKER_07]: uh... takes place in chicago against the bears it's taught pumpkins coaching debut as a head coach of this football team and it's the shawn Watson back at starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns in this first preseason game against chicago
- 24:51[SPEAKER_07]: Chris, if I put you in a time portal and took you back to Wajimi Haslam called that trade a swing and a miss, if I took you back to a time portal to just last year, preseason week number one, when Shador Sanders played so well against the Carolina Panthers, would you ever ever believe that we're getting ready to talk about the Sean's suiting up to start another season here in Cleveland with Shador still in the room?
- 25:16[SPEAKER_05]: only because it's Cleveland and expect the unexpected, you know, I was getting a lot of tweets this last couple of weeks.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_05]: I had put out there that Deshawn at the beginning of June would be cut back a year ago and obviously that hasn't happened and we've come a long way since then to now him being the perspective starting quarterback, I believe.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_05]: for game one for the Cleveland Brown.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_05]: So it'll be interesting to see what happens between now and then.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_05]: I don't expect Nick there to be a big change.
- 25:48[SPEAKER_05]: I think you're going to see to Sean Watson come game one.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_05]: We'll see what he looks like.
- 25:52[SPEAKER_05]: I think even if he looks tepid, even if he doesn't look very good at all.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_05]: Unless you're really terraced up, I do not see them moving off of
- 26:04[SPEAKER_05]: And despite what I think a lot of the fans want to, because right now, the overarching feeling in Cleveland is not really one of optimism with Deshawn Watson at quarterback.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_05]: I think it's much more malaise.
- 26:16[SPEAKER_05]: I think if you put Shader Sanders out there, you're at least going to get a jolt of interest.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_05]: out of out of the fans, maybe white could be our guy, right?
- 26:25[SPEAKER_05]: But to Sean Watson, we talked about it before, he remains a bridge to nowhere.
- 26:29[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_07]: Right.
- 26:31[SPEAKER_07]: Is that maybe why they're doing this, though?
- 26:33[SPEAKER_07]: I've had this intrusive thought.
- 26:36[SPEAKER_07]: The Browns are a data driven organization.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_07]: They obsess over numbers, unlike any other organization in football.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_07]: There's not a single data point that would lead anybody to believe that the Sean Watson can be a good quarterback this year.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_07]: It's been six years.
- 26:55[SPEAKER_07]: So is it just that they understand that he's the veteran you've got a veteran head coach.
- 27:01[SPEAKER_07]: You're going to let them go out there and do whatever he's going to do for four or five games.
- 27:05[SPEAKER_07]: It's probably going to look pretty similar to how it's looked because I've been out there for a couple of these training camp sessions.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_07]: I was out there for the entire spring OTAs and veteran mini camp.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_07]: It's looked the same.
- 27:17[SPEAKER_07]: There are flashes where you go.
- 27:19[SPEAKER_07]: Oh well, maybe.
- 27:21[SPEAKER_07]: And then he does two or three other things that make you go, oh, it's still the same guy that we've watched since 2022.
- 27:28[SPEAKER_07]: I really think this whole thing only lasts four or five weeks before they drop the Shrade, give the people Shador, he's wildly popular with the people, so that's gonna buy the organization, goodwill, that they probably don't deserve in the first place, midway through the season, try to use that as a spark plug.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_07]: I thought that's what they tried to do last year.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_07]: It was just too late because you had corn locus and kt levestin at your tackles and sal canella was catching footballs come the end of the season when chador finally got that opportunity.
- 28:01[SPEAKER_07]: But that's just the way that I see this playing out right now.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_07]: And I do feel like people are going to be upset for the first month, month and a half around how until around Halloween.
- 28:11[SPEAKER_05]: Well, isn't it nice to the way that the schedule lines out?
- 28:14[SPEAKER_05]: Those first couple of games are on the road, right?
- 28:17[SPEAKER_05]: So you can get away with starting to Sean Watson, not have to worry about the boo birds, not have to worry about issues from your home crowd there because we are already seeing it in camp.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, that's kind of translate to the big stadium.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, that's no surprise to anybody that that is going to happen.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_05]: You've got a part of this fan base that's very, very upset, very frustrated right now.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_05]: And they see to Sean Watson out there again, as soon as he throws his first in completion, as soon as you get your first three and out, this fan base is going to be going after him.
- 28:47[SPEAKER_05]: So you get a couple of games on the road.
- 28:50[SPEAKER_05]: At least when you're coming home, you know it to expect.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_05]: if he's playing okay you say okay he's playing okay maybe we got a chance we run them out there for Carolina if not maybe if think about it at that point kind of early but at least it gives you that insight of those first couple of games to have an idea of what you're going to see when they finally get at home it would I mean it would be a super fast hook to do it you know week three of the season but
- 29:16[SPEAKER_05]: to that point like if there are always a team that traded a quarter back our starting quarter back after the first week of the season.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_05]: This is not on here.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_05]: Nothing is uncharted territory next for the Cleveland Browns.
- 29:27[SPEAKER_07]: No, it's definitely not and that's why I'm fascinated to see the next eight days Chris.
- 29:33[SPEAKER_07]: I think are going to be really important for Shidorah Sanders because as you know you and I both believe that Deshawn Watson probably is going to
- 29:44[SPEAKER_07]: I do think Shidorah has an opportunity to do something that he hasn't done to date and that's try to run away with this competition over the next eight days.
- 29:52[SPEAKER_07]: He will have an opportunity a week from yesterday, so six days from now, the Browns will host the Buffalo Bills for that joint practice inside their headquarters of Buryo.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_07]: We know those, that's a very important day.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_07]: A lot of starters are going to get a lot of reps that
- 30:09[SPEAKER_07]: that's where they're going to do a lot of their work and then that weekend they're going to face the bills and preseason game number two where Shidorah Sanders will get his opportunity to start at quarterback.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_07]: I just think Chris it probably has to be a scenario where Shidorah plays over his skis and to Sean Watson plays horribly in order to change the direction that I just feel this thing going in.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, but no matter what, I mean, perfect timing, whatever you want to call it, it's inevitable when it comes to shooter Sanders.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_05]: So you start with the Sean Watson fine.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_05]: You're going to end up at some point in for a long stretch of this season with shooter Sanders.
- 30:46[SPEAKER_05]: So he's going to get his shot.
- 30:48[SPEAKER_05]: So we're going to get to see what that arm's like, believe me, the fans want to see it and also the front office wants to see it.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_05]: They got to evaluate whether they've got something they can move forward with here or whether they need to look at it in the draft.
- 31:00[SPEAKER_05]: And I think either way, they're probably still looking at something in the draft.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_05]: But they're going to want to have a larger resume.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_05]: How do we should our Sanders to be able to make, like you said, an analytically driven decision, ultimately at the quarterback position?
- 31:14[SPEAKER_05]: And so you're going to need to see a lot of them.
- 31:16[SPEAKER_05]: You don't need to see anything more out of Deshawn Watson.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_05]: Do you?
- 31:19[SPEAKER_05]: maybe he's the one constant you throw out there you say hey we've got some new weapons we got some new rookies he can get us kind of in and out of the huddle kind of run the offense maybe he's not the best guy out there but he's a veteran and he's a veteran with a lot of rookies right now and maybe you can kind of hold down the fort that's the thinking that you get where you arrive on to Sean Watson
- 31:40[SPEAKER_05]: versus put shoulder Sanders out there with a lot of young weapons where everybody's kind of learning on the job.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe he's that one consistent.
- 31:48[SPEAKER_05]: Unfortunately, Nick, he's been consistently bad.
- 31:50[SPEAKER_05]: So I don't know that I'm buying into that either.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_07]: No, he has been really bad.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_07]: And honestly, like,
- 31:57[SPEAKER_07]: I get it.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_07]: It just bears repeating that my only prediction for how it looks when we get to the games is how it's looked in practice, which is exactly how it's looks since 2022, like I really can't expect this to look anything other than what it's looked like.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_07]: I just think he's a broken quarterback at this.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_07]: He's damaged goods like I think the body unfortunately failed him from a physical standpoint And then mentally with what he had to endure from all of the off-the-field stuff that he got himself into I think it was just too much for any individual candidly to overcome Especially when you factor in he voluntarily sat out a year with Houston before the trade happened and then he missed all of last year recovering from the twice rupture to kill he so that's
- 32:42[SPEAKER_07]: two full seasons missed for this guy that has had three at best bad seasons sandwiched in between those since the time he led the league and passing all the way in 2019 like that was back before they even changed the schedule from 16 to 17 games a lot have time has passed since that.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_05]: Well, yeah.
- 33:04[SPEAKER_05]: And the Browns are masters of this too.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_05]: They also make enough of a change every off season to give you that hope, right?
- 33:12[SPEAKER_05]: You bring on a new head coach.
- 33:14[SPEAKER_05]: That's the big change this off season.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_05]: Todd Monk and see you say, okay, to Sean Watson, I
- 33:20[SPEAKER_05]: We don't think we have anything in him, but this Todd Monk and Guy, boy, boy, he tells it like it is, he's fun and interviews, he's fun up there, he sounds like somebody who's really motivating for this team, he sounds like if anybody's going to get anything out of this young team and maybe even out of a veteran like to Sean Watson, maybe it's this guy, maybe he gives us hope, you hear all these good stories, you come into the season with a little bit of hope, but ultimately Nick, it's going to come down to that quarterback.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_05]: and they've got to make that change this off season, that incremental change is not going to be the head coach.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_05]: It's going to be the quarterback, I think.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_05]: And whether you give the mantle full time to sugar Sanders or you go bring in a young guy, that's the big question for this organization heading into next year and they got to figure it out over the course of this season.
- 34:07[SPEAKER_07]: Here we are, man, already talking about next year when we've got a full deal of the way it works.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_07]: Oh, full 20 games ahead of us, you're right.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_07]: That is how it works.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_07]: And that is our hope that they could finally get off this ride, next season, that they could finally find that franchise quarterback next season.
- 34:24[SPEAKER_07]: The one thing I did want to push back on their Chris on Todd Monkin.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_07]: I really liked Todd.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_07]: I was a fan of the higher when it was announced.
- 34:33[SPEAKER_07]: I felt like I was one of the lone,
- 34:38[SPEAKER_05]: I'll give you that credit because I'm not going to sit here and say, man, that was the biggest fan of his when we hired him.
- 34:44[SPEAKER_05]: So I will give you credit if he works out, you get the credit.
- 34:47[SPEAKER_05]: I get the shame on that.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_07]: I was pumped about it, but I'm also like, even though I am excited, I wanted to work because he does bring that old school mindset.
- 34:55[SPEAKER_07]: I do think it's worth mentioning to the fans that I think he showed us this week.
- 35:01[SPEAKER_07]: He's not exactly going to be honest Abe all the time, um, with what we saw happen over the weekend on Saturday where he told the reporters, and obviously then the Browns fans, then it was going to be Shador's day with the ones and then they got out on the practice field.
- 35:18[SPEAKER_07]: It was in fact Sean Watson, like he is still very much the head coach of this thing.
- 35:23[SPEAKER_07]: And even though right now we've had a lot of fun with Todd Munkin because it is just training camp.
- 35:29[SPEAKER_07]: I am curious to see how his overall demeanor and attitude towards things is perceived when adversity strikes.
- 35:37[SPEAKER_07]: I'm curious to see if this team which is bought in right now, Chris, which I think is great news and I think Brown's fans should be excited to hear that that this is a team very bought in to what Todd Munkin is preaching.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_07]: Because that's really the mark of a Browett's headcoat I think there was a time in 2019 in the off season where the guys were bought in a Freddie Kitchens For some you know former fashion.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_07]: I'm not comparing it to I'm not comparing Todd Monk in to Freddie Kitchens But we played this game before where we thought we were getting this swash buckling breath of fresh air With what the hell and if you don't wear brown and orange you don't matter and all that stuff and
- 36:17[SPEAKER_07]: it did come back to bite us.
- 36:18[SPEAKER_07]: So I think he did prove to us this week that he's still in charge of this thing and he doesn't owe it to us to be honest able the time.
- 36:27[SPEAKER_05]: And personality, ultimately, it doesn't matter.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_05]: All that matters is wins and loss.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_05]: I don't care if you got all the personality in the world, or whether you were Bill Bellachek back with the Cleveland Brown.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_05]: Because people don't remember back in those days, we were just as frustrated.
- 36:41[SPEAKER_05]: The media was just as frustrated with Bill Bellachek, not talking.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_05]: The difference was he was losing in Cleveland.
- 36:48[SPEAKER_05]: And when he was losing, then it went bad.
- 36:50[SPEAKER_05]: Now, he did have some ups and Cleveland.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_05]: He did make the playoffs, did have a play up win.
- 36:54[SPEAKER_05]: But when he was losing, man, people turned on him quickly.
- 36:57[SPEAKER_05]: And that's what all happened here.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_05]: People can love Todd Mocking as much as they want to in the press conferences.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_05]: Hey, I love how he's playing spoke.
- 37:05[SPEAKER_05]: And I love how he's given Barb's right now to the media.
- 37:08[SPEAKER_05]: That's the kind of stuff we eat up.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_05]: These are kind of guy.
- 37:12[SPEAKER_05]: But once he gets out there, if he loses his first five games, there's going to be people calling for his head.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_05]: And that's just the nature of the beast.
- 37:19[SPEAKER_05]: So when games now, it's once the regular season starts up, that's your time to shine, that's your time to really prove your metal as a head coach of the Cleveland Brown.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_07]: All right, the Browns released their first unofficial depth chart and pronunciation guide earlier this week.
- 37:36[SPEAKER_07]: Of note, obviously, there is no listed starting quarterback.
- 37:40[SPEAKER_07]: It's Deshawn Watson or Shidorah Sanders, which is just in the file of weird things Cleveland Browns do.
- 37:47[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, if they file it in the category of things 31, other NFL organizations don't do, but leave that
- 37:57[SPEAKER_05]: crazy isn't it the stuff we put up with.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, this is a small detail, but it's a only Cleveland.
- 38:02[SPEAKER_05]: It's an only Cleveland.
- 38:03[SPEAKER_05]: All those people say only in Cleveland.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_05]: This is another one.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_05]: It only happens here.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_05]: Why does it happen here?
- 38:08[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
- 38:09[SPEAKER_05]: It just has for years.
- 38:10[SPEAKER_05]: It's happened over different ownership groups over this ownership group.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_05]: It doesn't matter.
- 38:14[SPEAKER_05]: We keep changing out the people, the person out, the weird things continue to happen.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_05]: The decisions continue to be made like this.
- 38:21[SPEAKER_05]: And here we are once again, Nick.
- 38:22[SPEAKER_07]: We obviously don't know which of the starters are going to participate in the preseason opener, but as I look at this depth chart, a couple of interesting things of note.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_07]: Elton Jenkins at center.
- 38:35[SPEAKER_07]: We weren't sure if that was going to be the starting center, or the starting guard.
- 38:39[SPEAKER_07]: We knew Elton was going to start somewhere.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_07]: It seems like center is going to be the spot with Tevin Jenkins at right guard.
- 38:47[SPEAKER_07]: So you'll have Elton Jenkins at center.
- 38:48[SPEAKER_07]: Tevin Jenkins at right guard.
- 38:52[SPEAKER_07]: wrist injury.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_07]: And as a rookie man, that's just devastating, especially because he really was competing as a fifth round pick to be that starting center.
- 39:01[SPEAKER_07]: Katie Leviston, who was an absolute monstrosity at Tackle for the Browns last year.
- 39:08[SPEAKER_07]: Premium guard depth for the Browns now.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_07]: They changed his position.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_07]: They're going to move him on the inside.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_07]: I find it fascinating to
- 39:22[SPEAKER_07]: Two mountain of a man will be interesting to watch that come along throughout the precies and defensive line is a little bit thin And I think we saw that with yesterday's news that they brought in old friend Zaderia Smith for a free agent Workout despite a very brief retirement from Zaderia So we'll see if they put pen to paper there linebacker really thin Behind swiss and during Quincy Williams eastern Arnold who is
- 39:52[SPEAKER_07]: A special team's contributor last year, he did start one game for the Browns as an undrafted free agent, a spot to watch there at linebacker and then the secondary is a little bit thin as well.
- 40:03[SPEAKER_07]: But no true real surprises on this step chart kind of what you would expect, Pat, I want to bring in our producer here, and just get your thoughts on what you're looking forward to watching tomorrow against the bears.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_04]: Well besides, Jed Will's playing left tackle.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_04]: for Chicago, but yeah, the offensive line because I think the way that they're going to have to mesh Nick is going to be one of the biggest things.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_04]: You know, we saw Shader Sanders last year where yeah, he made some ill-advised throws for sure and some happy feedback there in the pocket trying to bail out of the back end of the pocket, but I think if he gets a little bit more protection with a little bit more of hopefully some protection over there and consistency on that offensive line, I think that's the number one thing I'd be looking for there because
- 40:44[SPEAKER_04]: At a certain point, like I think we're know what we've got in the running backs.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_04]: The wide receiver seemed to be coming along quite a bit.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_04]: If you can get a little bit of a run game to help the quarterback as well as some protection, I think this offense could actually really sort of kind of take off under Todd Monk and a little bit more than people around the league might think.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_04]: Browns could surprise some people.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_04]: I know we were talking about that with Bruce earlier this week about, you know, that win, that win total.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_04]: Mark Lawrence kind of likes it as well too.
- 41:06[SPEAKER_04]: You could see a little bit higher of some win totals for your Cleveland Browns.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_04]: That starts with the offensive line.
- 41:12[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, it definitely does, and I honestly, like, leave it.
- 41:15[SPEAKER_07]: This is, this is fine.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_07]: This, this, first unofficial depth chart offensive line is fine.
- 41:21[SPEAKER_07]: Spencer Fano was top 10 draft pick.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_07]: You're going to start him at left tackle.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_07]: It's a no brainer.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_07]: Sion Johnson, you paid him a big money deal, and you need him to be a little bit better than what he was in LA.
- 41:32[SPEAKER_07]: That's a no brainer start at left guard.
- 41:35[SPEAKER_07]: If Elton Jenkins is going to be your center, De Shonwatt is going to be your quarterback.
- 41:39[SPEAKER_07]: Let's get those two on the same page over the next couple of weeks at training camp.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_07]: Taven Jenkins appeared in all 16 games, uh, are all 17 games rather for the Browns last year, so there's some familiarity in that one spot at right guard, and then Titus Howard was the first move of the off season when Andrew Barry picked up the phone and traded for him from the Houston Texans.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_07]: Leave that.
- 41:59[SPEAKER_07]: That's a good offensive line, as long as those guys can come together, because there were
- 42:04[SPEAKER_07]: nice investments placed into each and every one of those positions outside of maybe right guard.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_07]: So yeah, that's definitely going to be a difference.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_07]: And then I'm looking forward to seeing Casey conception and Denzel Boston in their first game in Cleveland Brown's uniforms.
- 42:20[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know how much we'll see him.
- 42:22[SPEAKER_07]: It really might just be a driver too.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_07]: But Chris, these two players have been my absolute story of the offseason thus far.
- 42:31[SPEAKER_07]: So much gets talked about the quarterback battle and Watson versus Sanders.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_07]: I've stopped caring Seriously, I want whoever can help me develop.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_07]: Casey can sepsion and Denzel Boston because I really think Casey can sepsion Can become what Zay Flowers was and Todd Munkins offense in Baltimore that can also contribute
- 42:52[SPEAKER_07]: In special teams is a punt returner and bring a little bit of electricity into that phase of the game that we have not had for a really long time And then talk about something that we haven't had forever Denzel Boston is gigantic he catches everything that's thrown his way.
- 43:07[SPEAKER_07]: I think we got to think of him way more than just a red zone thread
- 43:11[SPEAKER_07]: I try to mold this into my own Mike Evans.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_07]: I know that's which we're thinking Mike Evans is going to be a first ballot all of Famer But but I really think Denzel Boston can play a huge role as a rookie so is concepts your own and I think this thing is set up Or the Browns might just be like hey, whatever comes to Jerry Judy can come because we have two really good Young receivers that we're moving forward with as our future
- 43:35[SPEAKER_05]: Do you expect to see much out of bond?
- 43:37[SPEAKER_05]: Do you think that they're going to utilize him?
- 43:39[SPEAKER_05]: They're going to work him in because that'll be an interesting piece of this too.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_07]: I think definitely in the preseason, you know, in the regular season, there still is only one football, you know, and you're in Harold Fan, and Harold Fan and is also going to play a big role here.
- 43:52[SPEAKER_07]: Like I feel like he hasn't been,
- 43:54[SPEAKER_07]: As talked about he had a slow start to this offseason and he's been kind of banged up throughout But I do think Harold Fanon is going to play an absolute huge role in this thing too Bond's gonna have opportunities in the preseason and he had a slower start to the spring slower start to camp
- 44:14[SPEAKER_07]: But he's really turned it on over the last couple of weeks.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_07]: He's caught a couple nice deep balls from Deshawn Watts, and I'm curious to figure out with Isaiah Bond, is he a deep ball receiver like exclusively, or can you do some other things with him?
- 44:29[SPEAKER_07]: And I think that question also plays for like, Tywin Wallace.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_07]: know who is brought here to be a return specialist, but if he could catch some deep balls and do some other things like he's shown through camp, okay you feel pretty good about him making the team as a free Asian pick-up.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_07]: That really puts a lot of pressure on Cedric Tillman, because that right there we had five guys that we name that we really like.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_07]: I think your absolute locks in that room are Judy, Kitsepsion, Boston, and Bond.
- 44:57[SPEAKER_07]: I
- 44:57[SPEAKER_07]: Tidal and Wallace into that equation as well, just because of that he can contribute on special teams and he's shown really nice Promising moments is a receiver on the field Then you only might have one more in that room and Malachi Corley gage larvidan, Jamari Thrasher Hey Gage larvidan, come on
- 45:17[SPEAKER_05]: Chris, maybe this is the process and form in my guy Luke Floria, yeah, yeah, there's a lot of questions in that room.
- 45:23[SPEAKER_05]: It's nice.
- 45:24[SPEAKER_05]: It's nice to have options though, right?
- 45:26[SPEAKER_05]: Because there's so many years we'd look at that room.
- 45:28[SPEAKER_05]: We go, oh, where is the ball going to go?
- 45:31[SPEAKER_05]: It doesn't matter who the quarterback is.
- 45:33[SPEAKER_05]: He's got absolutely nobody to throw to and now it seems like we got a lot of young talent there.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_05]: and you did a great job of breaking down all the individual pieces of what I'll be looking for in the preseason game from a larger standpoint though Nick we got a new we got a new head coach here we got Todd Monk and he's introducing a whole lot of pre-snap movement and we've already heard from camp
- 45:54[SPEAKER_05]: where they've had some issues getting in and out of the huddle, they've had pre-snap penalties, they've had all kinds of little problems which and people will get sick of me talking about this.
- 46:04[SPEAKER_05]: But for a team that's marginal and I'll give them that.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_05]: The Cleveland Browns are at least marginal.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_05]: Where are you going to win these games?
- 46:11[SPEAKER_05]: It's going to be at the margin.
- 46:12[SPEAKER_05]: So you've got to make sure you can do the little things.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_05]: You can get in and out of the huddle.
- 46:16[SPEAKER_05]: You don't make a bunch of pre-snap mistakes.
- 46:19[SPEAKER_05]: You don't have a bunch of pre-snap penalties.
- 46:21[SPEAKER_05]: That this team is clicking at least give yourself a chance to compete by not constantly going backwards right after the huddle.
- 46:29[SPEAKER_05]: And that's going to be the biggest thing I see.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_05]: Is can we go out there and play error free or very close to it?
- 46:36[SPEAKER_05]: I know that this is the first preseason game, but I want to see if Todd Monkins offense translates to a real game setting and whether they can really do that when it matters.
- 46:47[SPEAKER_05]: And so that's going to be a big piece.
- 46:48[SPEAKER_05]: This is a small step for Todd Monkins.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_05]: It's a big step for the Browns.
- 46:51[SPEAKER_05]: You've got to be able to hit these little milestones before we get to the season because nothing is worse, Nick.
- 46:57[SPEAKER_05]: Then when we're sitting here week six, week seven, week eight, week 12, late in the season.
- 47:03[SPEAKER_05]: And we're still talking about this.
- 47:05[SPEAKER_05]: We're like, we cannot deal with all of these pre-stat penalties later on in the season when it's really going to count or at least hopefully it'll count for us at least a little bit.
- 47:15[SPEAKER_05]: You can't be dealing with that stuff where a professional organization, we should be able to get that cleaned up in the pre-season.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_05]: And I'll look for less of that as the pre-season goes on.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_07]: Could I be honest with you guys?
- 47:28[SPEAKER_07]: That's an area that I have a pinch of concern about.
- 47:30[SPEAKER_07]: Um, it's been, it's just been a struggle.
- 47:32[SPEAKER_07]: And like this offense.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_07]: Uh, it isn't offense that puts so much on the quarterback.
- 47:37[SPEAKER_07]: I remember they were talking about that really when Todd was here in 2019 with Freddie Kitchens and obviously Freddie and Todd.
- 47:45[SPEAKER_07]: put their brains together and put that off ends together, but, you know, that was a piece of discourse then, just for Baker as a young quarterback, you know, having that much responsibility at the line of scrimmage to send guys in motion to shift protections up front.
- 48:02[SPEAKER_07]: And when you have that much responsibility at times people get on the wrong page, and that's how those pre-snap penalties do pile up.
- 48:09[SPEAKER_07]: And that is another reason why I do kind of think that this thing
- 48:12[SPEAKER_07]: code potentially be moving into Sean Watson's favor just because he's the veteran.
- 48:18[SPEAKER_07]: He's been in those huddles.
- 48:20[SPEAKER_07]: He's got 70 plus starts in this league where Shidorah has seven starts in this league.
- 48:25[SPEAKER_07]: So I'm curious to see how that comes along to because today it's takes two.
- 48:30[SPEAKER_05]: He's making mistakes right now, isn't he?
- 48:32[SPEAKER_05]: Right.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_05]: I'm trying to do today to spin a struggle for both of them.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_07]: It's a struggle for both of them, right now.
- 48:37[SPEAKER_07]: And I wonder if that's like a monkey thing?
- 48:39[SPEAKER_07]: like does he need to realize, hey, my options is we're here right this, you know, this moment or guy that hasn't been good in six years in Shidorah Sanders, like I don't have Lamar Jackson who won two MVPs anymore, like maybe that's a real possibility that we, uh, that we all need to accept for Todd.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 48:57[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah.
- 48:58[SPEAKER_05]: Well, it should be interesting.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_05]: And once again, no matter what happens, we're going to put way too much gas.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_05]: Of course.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_05]: You always do, right?
- 49:06[SPEAKER_05]: And we'll break it all down next week.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_05]: And it'll be, you know, the B all end all after one preseason game.
- 49:12[SPEAKER_05]: We'll have definitive statements on the offense on Todd Monk and on everything the Cleveland Browns are doing.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_05]: Because that's what we do, Nick, that's what we do is a fan base and everybody says, oh, that's just the median Cleveland or just some guys on a podcast or just some guys on a YouTube stream.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_05]: But everybody does it around every water cooler in Cleveland, everybody will be treating this as the definitive take on the Cleveland Browns at the moment.
- 49:35[SPEAKER_05]: And we know you get a couple of weeks in the season.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_05]: Hell, even that first game of the season.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_05]: And you totally forget about everything that happened in the preseason.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_05]: So,
- 49:44[SPEAKER_05]: It's always fun.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_05]: We go through this ritual every single year, Nick, and we'll all be watching, like we always do, but just I caution you.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_05]: Don't take too much out of it, right?
- 49:53[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, I can tell myself that as much as I am everyone else.
- 49:56[SPEAKER_07]: We watched that Hall of Fame game, Dorian Thompson Robinson was awesome.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_07]: You know, I remember watching a couple camp practices in 2023.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_07]: I thought Elijah Moore was going to be Jerry Rice.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_07]: you know, so like we've we've gotten duped a couple of times before, but definitely looking forward to see in the type of product that they put on the field on Saturday tomorrow against the Chicago Bears in that preseason opener.
- 50:22[SPEAKER_05]: We're going to talk on Kaiser.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_05]: Remember that just Sean Kaiser?
- 50:25[SPEAKER_07]: I mean, man, he was like, I don't know, on the, on defeated preseason Chris.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_05]: He was the guy, man.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_05]: We are set in quarterback.
- 50:33[SPEAKER_05]: We found our franchise quarterback to Sean Kaiser.
- 50:36[SPEAKER_05]: You should have seen him in the preseason.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_05]: Those are the type of stories we like to tell around here.
- 50:42[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah.
- 50:44[SPEAKER_07]: We've had a few.
- 50:45[SPEAKER_07]: We've had a lot.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_07]: All right.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_07]: Well, we're going to talk about this cab schedule the trap before we do.

- 55:06[SPEAKER_07]: It's a really fun time, fun stream.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_07]: We've got going on here at Big Play, but Chris, I want to jump into the calves and be a schedule dropped.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_07]: last night 17 nationally televised games for the Cavaliers no opening night games no Christmas day games I put out there on social media on X man that's the league telling you what they think of the calves they uh
- 55:35[SPEAKER_07]: You know, are not going to play basketball on opening night on Christmas.
- 55:38[SPEAKER_07]: That's where the league puts their best teams, their most exciting teams, their most interesting teams, the calves are not that.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_07]: Their moves this off season are losing Dean Wade, Kion Ellis, and General Manager Mike Gansy, and what did they gain?
- 55:54[SPEAKER_07]: Craig Porter Jr on a on a reworked deal.
- 55:57[SPEAKER_07]: Thomas Bryant on a veteran minimum contract and Mario his own on a veteran free agent minimum contract.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_07]: So Chris, the calves have not done much.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_07]: The rest of the east is much improved and I felt like the league kind of sent a message to the calves before this full schedule even dropped just about their inactivity and they're not one of the
- 56:22[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, some people will step back and say, Hey, you got 17 nationally televised games, but you start to look at these streaming platforms, peacock and other things that they're calling nationally televised these days.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_05]: And it kind of shrinks the number, this isn't your old school, you know, you're going to be a featured game on Sunday night or anything like that.
- 56:40[SPEAKER_05]: And like you said, the two most hallowed grounds, we are nowhere to be seen for the Cleveland Cavaliers unfortunately, but
- 56:48[SPEAKER_05]: you're still going to be able to catch them on the national streaming platforms.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_05]: You have to chase them around a little bit.
- 56:54[SPEAKER_05]: But yeah, I agree with you.
- 56:57[SPEAKER_05]: I don't think that they're getting the respect nationally nor should they.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_05]: Nor should they.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, all we've done since last year is take a step back, right?
- 57:04[SPEAKER_05]: We don't even have James Harden right now.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, he hasn't formally resigned with us and is he going to resign with us?
- 57:10[SPEAKER_05]: I would expect him to.
- 57:12[SPEAKER_05]: It's going to depend upon what whether we get another player in here as to how much he signs back for.
- 57:18[SPEAKER_05]: right I mean what a weird situation we've got in Cleveland right now where he stepped aside said hey I'll take a little bit less you bring somebody in now if the calves aren't able to bring somebody in maybe steps back to the table goes okay you had your opportunity now I'm going to take that money that's rightfully mine and who could really blame them when they set it up like that.
- 57:37[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, dive and back into the schedule overall.
- 57:42[SPEAKER_05]: The most interesting stretch we always talk about the MBA schedule really ramping up when you get to Christmas.
- 57:48[SPEAKER_05]: That's really for the casual fan opening day.
- 57:52[SPEAKER_05]: It's kind of that Christmas day.
- 57:53[SPEAKER_05]: It's opening day to let's get going.
- 57:56[SPEAKER_05]: If you look at that January schedule for the Cleveland Cavaliers,
- 58:00[SPEAKER_05]: I think it's like 11 of 16 games are on the road.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_05]: That's going to be brutal.
- 58:05[SPEAKER_05]: That's going to tell you a lot about this Cavs team.
- 58:08[SPEAKER_05]: So if we aren't sure of what we got in the Cavs by Christmas Day, it'll be shortly after that before we really realize what the metal is on this team for this upcoming season.
- 58:17[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, it's a brutal month of November as well.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_07]: Obviously, you know, the season will get going there in, you know, the fall and October really, but but November is going to be brutal.
- 58:28[SPEAKER_07]: You have a home and away with the Oklahoma City Thunder to get that month started.
- 58:33[SPEAKER_07]: You've got Philly in there.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_07]: You've got Miami in there.
- 58:36[SPEAKER_07]: New York.
- 58:37[SPEAKER_07]: You play the next.
- 58:38[SPEAKER_07]: all four times before the calendar flips to 2027, which is pretty tough, it's a tough schedule for the calves.
- 58:47[SPEAKER_07]: I think it ranked like six in terms of brutal travel and like third in terms of least amount of rest for this team.
- 58:56[SPEAKER_07]: So the league did the calves know favors.
- 58:59[SPEAKER_07]: Chris, you mentioned the breakdown by platform.
- 59:02[SPEAKER_07]: They'll be on peacock and NBC eight times, they'll be on ESPN six times, and they'll have three games on Amazon Prime Video.
- 59:12[SPEAKER_07]: 17 nationally, nationally televised TV games actually ranks 12th in the Lee or our 13th rather.
- 59:20[SPEAKER_07]: There are 12 teams with more national TV games than the calves.
- 59:26[SPEAKER_05]: Yeah, that's pretty amazing.
- 59:27[SPEAKER_05]: And if you're looking for individual dates, you might want to circle to maybe get some tickets, go up and see your Cavaliers this year.
- 59:35[SPEAKER_05]: How about New Year's Eve?
- 59:37[SPEAKER_05]: Anybody got any New Year's Eve plans yet?
- 59:39[SPEAKER_05]: Because Daria's Garland is going to be coming back.
- 59:42[SPEAKER_05]: That's a three o'clock tip.
- 59:44[SPEAKER_05]: You're going to have Daria's Garland back in the house after that trade.
- 59:47[SPEAKER_05]: It'll be interesting to see.
- 59:49[SPEAKER_05]: I'm sure he'll get a very warm reception here in Cleveland.
- 59:52[SPEAKER_05]: But, you know, a lot has changed for us, for them, for Darious now moving on, so that'll be a time there.
- 1:00:00[SPEAKER_05]: If you don't have those new years plans yet, go ahead and make them, because that'll be a fun one.
- 1:00:05[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that one will be fun.
- 1:00:07[SPEAKER_07]: I'm looking at this Chris.
- 1:00:08[SPEAKER_07]: So, Caddy Ackinson's first year here, one coach of the year because the team won 60 plus games.
- 1:00:16[SPEAKER_07]: Last year, they finished in the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference winning 52 games.
- 1:00:22[SPEAKER_07]: Pat, what's that number at on Fandle Sportsbook right now for the calves?
- 1:00:27[SPEAKER_04]: Guys, it's 47 and a half wins for the calves right now, which I believe if you looked at last year, it was 57 and a half, I could be running that, but it was way higher this year than it was last year.
- 1:00:34[SPEAKER_04]: I'll tell you that.
- 1:00:35[SPEAKER_05]: And I can win difference.
- 1:00:37[SPEAKER_07]: Let me look that up and confirm that's just uh, that's the landscape of this Eastern conference man like like you've got some championship level talent this east with, you know,
- 1:00:57[SPEAKER_07]: never played a game together yet obviously Philly with LeBron like this is going to be a very new look conference in schedule makers not very kind to the calves and then odds makers on fan to at least think of that this could be a ball club that could struggle to win 50 games this year.
- 1:01:14[SPEAKER_05]: Wow, that's crazy.
- 1:01:16[SPEAKER_05]: Are we sitting, you know, we're here middle of August, right?
- 1:01:20[SPEAKER_05]: Are we sitting here in a spot where the browns are the shining beacon of hope for Cleveland?
- 1:01:26[SPEAKER_05]: I mean, the calves are, you're fading the calves right now.
- 1:01:29[SPEAKER_05]: Kind of fading the guardians right now.
- 1:01:31[SPEAKER_05]: Now, the guardians are young and we're just kind of fading them for this season.
- 1:01:36[SPEAKER_05]: Man, that's kind of a scary spot to be.
- 1:01:38[SPEAKER_05]: We're talking about some young talent for the Browns.
- 1:01:41[SPEAKER_05]: We're talking about the first preseason game.
- 1:01:43[SPEAKER_05]: You have some early optimism in them.
- 1:01:45[SPEAKER_05]: You see what the calves have done.
- 1:01:47[SPEAKER_05]: It's been to say uninspired would be nice.
- 1:01:51[SPEAKER_05]: And where the guardians are at, man.
- 1:01:53[SPEAKER_05]: That's kind of a depressing spot to be at, to be honest with you, Nick.
- 1:01:56[SPEAKER_07]: It is.
- 1:01:57[SPEAKER_07]: The state of Cleveland sports right now.
- 1:02:00[SPEAKER_07]: Pretty bleak.
- 1:02:02[SPEAKER_05]: Oh, but guys, yeah, but guys right now they're favorites to win it all.
- 1:02:06[SPEAKER_05]: So there we go.
- 1:02:07[SPEAKER_05]: Your future national champion Ohio State, but guys, all the optimism lies in Columbus on a very rainy Columbus right now as it has been most of this week.
- 1:02:17[SPEAKER_05]: We have had tornadoes.
- 1:02:19[SPEAKER_05]: We've had rain.
- 1:02:20[SPEAKER_05]: We've had floods.
- 1:02:21[SPEAKER_05]: We've had everything going on down there.
- 1:02:23[SPEAKER_05]: So everybody in Columbus,
- 1:02:25[SPEAKER_05]: be safe because I have a feeling we haven't reached the end of it yet it sounds like it's going to be a rainy weekend.
- 1:02:30[SPEAKER_07]: Wow more rain this weekend.
- 1:02:31[SPEAKER_07]: Is that the case for us up here, Pat?
- 1:02:33[SPEAKER_05]: Because we've got like the feast of assumption going on in little Italy, like I went to the feast a few years ago.
- 1:02:40[SPEAKER_05]: Man, oh man, if you've never been for anybody who has never been to the feast, that thing is amazing.
- 1:02:45[SPEAKER_05]: You talk about fun, Italian food, and just taking in the culture, it's so neat, you know, a city like Cleveland, to have all these different cultures inside of it.
- 1:02:56[SPEAKER_05]: And the feast is just one of those that's just fantastic.
- 1:02:59[SPEAKER_05]: I'm going to miss it again this year, but I got to get myself back up there to that.
- 1:03:03[SPEAKER_05]: That is just so much fun.
- 1:03:05[SPEAKER_05]: have fun out there eat some spaghetti eat some meat balls enjoy your time over stuff yourself like I did the last time I was up there that is a fantastic time up there.
- 1:03:15[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, that's definitely what Jack and I are getting into right out for the show today.
- 1:03:20[SPEAKER_07]: So we might as well not bleed this on any longer.
- 1:03:25[SPEAKER_07]: Do you guys want the 12 teams that have more nationally televised games than the calves or do we want to be done?
- 1:03:30[SPEAKER_07]: Absolutely.
- 1:03:31[SPEAKER_05]: No, I want to hear it.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_05]: Okay.
- 1:03:32[SPEAKER_05]: They just respecting us by putting in front of and putting on your TV more than the Cleveland Cavalry.
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_07]: Okay.
- 1:03:38[SPEAKER_07]: So the calves have 17.
- 1:03:40[SPEAKER_07]: The pistons have 19.
- 1:03:45[SPEAKER_05]: The rockets look at that bigger staff looking down at us.
- 1:03:49[SPEAKER_07]: The rockets who LeBron took care of in the first round the playoffs last year have 21.
- 1:03:56[SPEAKER_07]: The Miami Heat in Yannis' first year have 25.
- 1:04:02[SPEAKER_07]: The Minnesota Timberwolves in La Mello Ball and Anthony Edwards' debut season, 27.
- 1:04:08[SPEAKER_07]: Does that excite you a whole lot?
- 1:04:10[SPEAKER_05]: The Timberwolves have got going on up there.
- 1:04:11[SPEAKER_05]: I don't know.
- 1:04:12[SPEAKER_07]: I'm curious to see how it looks.
- 1:04:15[SPEAKER_07]: We've never really seen Edwards with a point guard like ball, you know, that could really be a Robin type player from the scoring standpoint, but also I just don't know.
- 1:04:28[SPEAKER_07]: if will meltball can be, how do I say this is respectful?
- 1:04:32[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know if will meltball can be a serious basketball player, you know, like he's tremendously fun to watch, but it lets be real about it.
- 1:04:40[SPEAKER_07]: He's out there for his own number, so I don't know if like you could play like winning team basketball with Anthony Edwards
- 1:04:48[SPEAKER_07]: if you get in and and lamellabots together if you can it'll be crazy fun because individually those are two very fun players.
- 1:04:56[SPEAKER_07]: I'm just curious to see how it fuses together.
- 1:04:58[SPEAKER_07]: Boston also has 27.
- 1:05:02[SPEAKER_05]: The Warriors.
- 1:05:03[SPEAKER_05]: They roll out a bed on national TV.
- 1:05:05[SPEAKER_07]: The Warriors have 28.
- 1:05:07[SPEAKER_07]: The nuggets have 28, the thunder have 30, and then four teams have 34, the 76ers, the spurs, the nicks and the lakers.
- 1:05:24[SPEAKER_05]: Okay, okay, now I answered me this is somebody who watches every single cab's game.
- 1:05:30[SPEAKER_05]: I don't mind not being on national TV because I hate chasing them around all of the different streaming services, whether they're on cable, wherever the heck they're at.
- 1:05:39[SPEAKER_05]: When I know they're going to be on one station all the time, that makes it easier for me.
- 1:05:45[SPEAKER_05]: But I know that you want to see that national interest, right?
- 1:05:48[SPEAKER_05]: Everybody wants to matter.
- 1:05:53[SPEAKER_05]: 17 times and that's about it throughout the entire season.
- 1:05:56[SPEAKER_05]: So I get it, but I'm not exactly losing sleep if we're not on there as many times as the nicks or, you know, even the timber wolves, any of those teams because I just don't want to chase them around the dial all the time.
- 1:06:08[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, I just hope that this isn't a prediction from the networks and the schedule makers that comes to fruition.
- 1:06:15[SPEAKER_07]: Like I like to imagine in my head that the calves are a better team than the piston still, or the rockets, or like you said, Chris, the timber wolves, the nuggets.
- 1:06:25[SPEAKER_07]: I would like to live in a world where the calves are better than those teams.
- 1:06:29[SPEAKER_07]: but I hope this isn't a warning, you know, signal from the league and the schedule makers that right now there's just a lot of good teams in basketball and the Cavs are a good team like we're not seeing the Cavs are gonna, you know, run this thing back and be dreadful because they didn't do anything this off season like I do still think that's a good basketball team.
- 1:06:50[SPEAKER_07]: but we all know what matters and that's the postseason and and i think this schedule is a warning shot because all of these teams that are ahead of us on this schedule at least most of them you know maybe not the lakers maybe not the warriors like they're gonna be good postseason teams too
- 1:07:05[SPEAKER_05]: The league doesn't make more money by putting bad teams on national TV, right?
- 1:07:09[SPEAKER_05]: They all want to make the networks want to make the most money, so they want to put the teams that are of national interests and are winning games.
- 1:07:16[SPEAKER_05]: And for the calves to be of national interest, you've got to win games.
- 1:07:19[SPEAKER_05]: And now we've got to prove it.
- 1:07:20[SPEAKER_05]: Now everybody's dog and us.
- 1:07:21[SPEAKER_05]: So, you know, I don't know if this team really needs billboard.
- 1:07:24[SPEAKER_05]: Well, excuse me, bulletin board material, but if you do, there's another one.
- 1:07:29[SPEAKER_05]: Maybe it's a small post-it note in the moniker of everything else that they may have up there, certainly losing again in the playoffs last year should be on a big old post-it and not some small one, but ultimately, they just got to go out there and show it and all this other stuff is kind of window dressing to what the calves actually need to get done.
- 1:07:49[SPEAKER_07]: I don't know if you guys saw this.
- 1:07:50[SPEAKER_07]: There was a hypothetical trade posted in sporting news, and I screenshot it and shared it out on X.
- 1:07:57[SPEAKER_07]: Where the tabs would be in a three-team trade with the Houston rockets and the Detroit pistons.
- 1:08:06[SPEAKER_07]: In this trade, the pistons get Dennis Schroeder, the rockets get James Hardin, Jared Allen, and the cabs 2031 draft pick.
- 1:08:15[SPEAKER_07]: The cabs get Kevin Durant, Fred Van Vleet, and it's 2028 second round draft pick from Detroit.
- 1:08:22[SPEAKER_07]: You get KD, Fred Van Vleet in here, so Van Vleet and Mitchell are your new back court with KD and Moby in the front court.
- 1:08:32[SPEAKER_07]: It could be an interesting way to dice this thing up.
- 1:08:35[SPEAKER_07]: I obviously don't think this is a trade that happens, but I'm curious to see what happens.
- 1:08:40[SPEAKER_07]: The basketball offseason always picks up in the last week of August and the first week of September, people forget that Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland trade didn't happen until like the first weekend of September.
- 1:08:56[SPEAKER_07]: there is still time for moves to be made.
- 1:08:58[SPEAKER_07]: I know the calves are still being linked to Jonathan Kominga, Peyton Watson, probably way more realistic targets than Kevin Durant to fix this problem that they have on the wing.
- 1:09:10[SPEAKER_05]: But they still need to take a big swing, right?
- 1:09:12[SPEAKER_05]: So I'm sure they're making those phone calls.
- 1:09:14[SPEAKER_05]: They're trying to see, hey, what could we do?
- 1:09:16[SPEAKER_05]: Just think outside the box, because I really think that not getting a little brown.
- 1:09:21[SPEAKER_05]: I think that changed things for them and that forced them to think creatively.
- 1:09:25[SPEAKER_05]: And maybe they are thinking about moves like that.
- 1:09:28[SPEAKER_05]: But ultimately, Nick, what you're telling me is, the calves are going to make a big move, and it's going to come in the next three weeks.
- 1:09:33[SPEAKER_05]: You've got the timing down and everything, right?
- 1:09:36[SPEAKER_07]: Yeah, you just clip that and put it out there and see what the commenter say.
- 1:09:42[SPEAKER_05]: All the big moose start at the end of August, the first week in September.
- 1:09:46[SPEAKER_05]: So we got three weeks in total.
- 1:09:48[SPEAKER_05]: The calves are going to make a big move.
- 1:09:50[SPEAKER_05]: We'll see it.
- 1:09:50[SPEAKER_07]: There you go, set your timer forward.
- 1:09:52[SPEAKER_07]: Kobe Altman, uh, we're just waiting for you, buddy.
- 1:09:55[SPEAKER_07]: All right.
