- 0:01[SPEAKER_01]: Hey friend, welcome back to Bible Track Decos.
- 0:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Mike McCurrier, host.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_01]: Thank you so much for joining me once again on the broadcast.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_01]: I want to talk to you for a moment about the importance of counsel and getting counsel from the right sources.
- 0:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's like choosing to drink from a dirty stream or a clean stream.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_01]: Question is, do you want to get sick or not?
- 0:23[SPEAKER_01]: Do you want to be helped in the future or not?
- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: I'm so thankful for this series of messages.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: I preached them at my home church not long ago and some folks and dear folks told me they were helping.
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: I thought I might share them on the radio broadcast here on Bible Track Decos.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yesterday we spoke about the happy man says no today.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to talk about bad apples, good apples, and drill instructors.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: I want to point out the fact that council is so very important.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: Getting council is important.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, no matter how great a televangelist may be, no matter how powerful a radio personality may speak, he, someone like me will never replace what your home church.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_01]: The place you can actually attend, a pastor cares about you, a personal connection like that.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_01]: a radio personality, even Bible track decos, can never replace that.
- 1:19[SPEAKER_01]: So we encourage you to tune in today as we talk about apples and drilling structures.
- 1:25[SPEAKER_01]: As we continue this thought in Psalm one, my prayer is that it's a blessing to you.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: Listen now as I share this recording of a message I preached not long ago, I hope it's a help to you today.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_01]: Wonder as we look at that first
- 1:44[SPEAKER_01]: thought their blessed is the man that walketh not in the Council of Young Godly.
- 1:52[SPEAKER_01]: In a council,
- 1:54[SPEAKER_01]: is the advice says the world view of others.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_01]: We know Proverbs eleven fourteen where no council is the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety and Proverbs twelve fifteen.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to see here a lot of this is going to come from Proverbs with the way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he that harkeneth under council is wise.
- 2:12[SPEAKER_01]: Proverbs twenty five one of my favorite verses.
- 2:14[SPEAKER_01]: Council in the heart of man is like deep water.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_01]: But a man of understanding will draw it out.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: Matt Telefren, especially young men, young women, but I also realize that these devices are not just addictive for my generation.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_01]: Scrolling is not seeking counsel.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: But you don't understand.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm learning how to rebuild a car.
- 2:40[SPEAKER_01]: I'm learning how to, whatever it may be.
- 2:43[SPEAKER_01]: Friend, you know as well as I, there's a lot more filth on that.
- 2:47[SPEAKER_01]: then there is good.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_01]: And the algorithm does a really good job of feeding you exactly what your flesh wants.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: Walk is not in the counsel of the ungod in or stand it.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_01]: in the way of sinners nor Sith in the seat of the scornful.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: You could, you could say, walk.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's a casual agreement.
- 3:06[SPEAKER_01]: We're just walking along beside each other, a stand, a considered alignment.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like you chose to be there and Sith.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe that's a committed allegiance.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_01]: You could say that there's a downward spiral that we see here in Psalm one.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: Nor stand in the way of sinners.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: See, this is no longer casual exposure.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_01]: It's deliberate attention.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_01]: You've stopped moving.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_01]: You're giving ear.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: They have your interest.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: Proverbs four, fourteen says, entered not into the path of the wicked and go not in the way of evil men avoided.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: Pass not by it.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: Turn from it and pass away.
- 3:44[SPEAKER_01]: You think of Joseph and Scripture.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't stand with potifers wife too long, did he?
- 3:50[SPEAKER_01]: He didn't have a choice in the fact that he had to occupy that house in some form of fashion.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: He had to walk, he was the major domo, he was the manager of the place, he was a chief administrator, he had to walk through there on occasion, there were things he had to do.
- 4:03[SPEAKER_01]: But when she threw herself at him, he didn't stand around to see where this was going, he ran the other direction.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: He that walk up with wise men shall be wise,
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: We see your North Standard in the way of sinners.
- 4:20[SPEAKER_01]: It's worth noting the man that we're talking about here would not be just walking past and he's now standing in it.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_01]: He's luring, he's lingering.
- 4:28[SPEAKER_01]: But be careful not to misapply this when we think about the happy man says, no, evangelism versus influence.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: You ever heard someone try to make excuse for why they do what they do?
- 4:41[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I'm just gonna go down to the bar
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: because I'm going to witness to the guys there.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you've had a history of problems with alcohol, maybe witnessing in the bars in the best place for you, right?
- 4:54[SPEAKER_01]: But let's talk about the man's versus influence for just a moment here.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: If you are witnessing to others, what this church does, Saturday after Saturday and Tuesdays with the ladies, and a big day outreach, all that, all that.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: When you go to a neighborhood, and you knock on a door, and you can smell the skunk inside,
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: Are you walking with the ungodly?
- 5:17[SPEAKER_01]: Are you standing the way of sinners?
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: Well, you think about what we talked about, you know, you put a good apple in with a bunch of bad apples.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_01]: The good apple doesn't make the bad apples good, right?
- 5:29[SPEAKER_01]: We understand that.
- 5:31[SPEAKER_01]: But that application applies to a passive interaction.
- 5:36[SPEAKER_01]: If you are just going with the flow, you're absolutely right.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_01]: One bad apple in a bunch is gonna make the rest of them bad.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: But let's flip that, but Todd, you were in boot camp some years ago.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: They had a bunch of gentlemen, maybe some of them were knuckleheads.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: The poured off of a bus, standing out of his a marine thing or an army thing, standing on yellow footprints, whatever it may be.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: And there was some drill instructors.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know what the ratio was, but there's probably one drilling structure for every five, ten, fifteen, twenty, however many it was.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: But there were definitely more recruits than the word drilling structures.
- 6:12[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what the army does not anticipate.
- 6:15[SPEAKER_01]: The Marine Corps does not anticipate that the recruits are going to drag the drilling structures down to their level of incompetence.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_01]: Do they?
- 6:24[SPEAKER_01]: They're not too worried about those guys and the flat brands and the loud voices, making fatal hares and becoming just like those raw recruits.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_01]: No, those drill instructors, the DI, drill instructor, they, by force of persuasion and or corporal punishment.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not sure which.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: They drag those recruits up to a standard.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I forgot to talk about breaking us down to build us back up.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: What a great illustration of the Bible does to us.
- 7:00[SPEAKER_01]: But the difference is those drill instructors aren't very passive, are they?
- 7:05[SPEAKER_01]: We have an opportunity to go into a lost and dying world.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: And you're not misapplying this version right here.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_01]: Blessed is men that walk and not in the council of the engali, nor stand in the way of sinners.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_01]: The fact that you stand across some someone that smells so strongly of whatever the substance may be, and stumbles out at a loved and clock on a Saturday morning, and they went to sleep at three o'clock in the morning, from a bender on Friday night, that doesn't mean you're standing in the way of sinners.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_01]: You're trying to pull them away from the way of sinners.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_01]: This is an offensive purpose that we talk about this more.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_01]: This is not defensive.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_01]: This is offensive.
- 7:42[SPEAKER_01]: Proverbs, I'm going to say Romans, twelve, twenty-one.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_01]: Be not overcome a evil, but overcome evil with good.
- 7:48[SPEAKER_01]: And then James, for seventeen, therefore, to end that noise to do good and do with it not to him and his sin, God doesn't just bless separation.
- 7:56[SPEAKER_01]: He bless his obedience.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: And sometimes we have to be in the world, but not of the world, to obey God.
- 8:03[SPEAKER_01]: Nor siteth in the sea of the scornful.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now we see the third and final descent, not waiting, not even standing, settled, sitting, settled.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: Stationary, so rendered.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_01]: See, this is, there's a difference between peer pressure and peer participation.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_01]: You ever been there?
- 8:27[SPEAKER_01]: When you feel the eyes of all the other people look at you like, are you gonna go with us?
- 8:33[SPEAKER_01]: You gonna do this thing?
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: had the chance to spend some time with Avery and his dear wife, Harmony, and a big mic was there.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: I realized on Wednesday not to get there, long story short, we got there twenty minutes after the service started.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_01]: On Wednesday night.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_01]: I was supposed to get there in the early afternoon, and I walked in, and over the evening was, past your evening was just holding up, just a little while taking some prayer requests and things, so I had to have time to get there.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_01]: There's a three hour drive from the airport.
- 9:05[SPEAKER_01]: It was a quite a thing.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'd get there, and off we go, and I said, it's so good to see friends, and big Mike, and then my wife gives me this look, and afterwards she's like, they don't call him big Mike here.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_01]: All right, well, he's my friend.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_01]: I'll call him when I want to call him.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_01]: So I was very, I was very honoring, and I didn't call him.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: I just brother him like, brother him like, not big money anymore.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_01]: But he was telling me some stories about Bible college.
- 9:35[SPEAKER_01]: I, as a married off-campus student, did not have the same experience at Bible College, as Big Mike did.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: He got everything in.
- 9:45[SPEAKER_01]: He had a grand old time for the Matt Payne in Bible College.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't know if the statute of limitations has run out on everything he's done.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_01]: And so I'm not going to tell his stories for him.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'll let him tell his stories.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_01]: But what is a seat?
- 10:02[SPEAKER_01]: Sit it in the seat of the scornful.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: commentators is very, but one said, the squirtful of those who mock at religion, who deride the truths of God, who make get this light of sin.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_01]: Sitting indicates a subtle condition.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_01]: He's at home with them, this man who sits with the squirtful.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_01]: Matthew Henry said to see that the squirtful denotes a proud and presuming spirit.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_01]: They're not just sinners,
- 10:30[SPEAKER_01]: their scoffers.
- 10:31[SPEAKER_01]: Another commentator said, a progression from indecision to complete apostasy is what we see in this verse here.
- 10:40[SPEAKER_01]: But we're going to come back to that thought about making the light of sin.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_01]: Historically, the seat or gate of a city after referred to positions of influence or governance or teaching in Ruth Wann and Providence, Dirty One, twenty-three.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_01]: So this man, potentially, has not just accepted sin, he's adopted its worldview.
- 11:01[SPEAKER_01]: But let's talk about something where maybe the enemy's greatest tool to get us to adopt the world view of the world.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_01]: What's more scornful than the average, the average doom scroll session that we spend on social media?
- 11:30[SPEAKER_01]: You want to talk about making the light of sin.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_01]: Now, for one, one in four reels or TikToks you come across are ads.
- 11:41[SPEAKER_01]: And you know what you're doing?
- 11:43[SPEAKER_01]: You're filling someone's piggy bank when you watch those, even if you scroll by past them.
- 11:49[SPEAKER_01]: But you know as well as I, that we, amen our past, are standing behind this pulpit.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: And he'll preach against, I'm glad for who preach against sanitize.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_01]: CCM, and of course, it goes without saying Christian rock harder otherwise.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_01]: No chance.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: Christian rap, get out of here.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_01]: Christian pop, all that, come on now.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_01]: But instead of that, the computer that we have, the God's goodness, this ozone credible machine, we will download the devil's top forty directly to our dome
- 12:28[SPEAKER_01]: in fifteen singing intervals.
- 12:30[SPEAKER_01]: How much sense does that make?
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: And the vast majority of them, what do they do?
- 12:35[SPEAKER_01]: Make a mock at sin.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: We've got to be careful about that phone.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_01]: We've got to be careful about the screen usage.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: We've got to be careful about what we allow into our eye date.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's so very vital that we are very particular.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_01]: That we are very careful with every instance of what we allow to, in fact, or lift us up.
- 13:03[SPEAKER_01]: Our prayer is always, is that you have a great day.
- 13:05[SPEAKER_01]: For his glory, we're going to continue to talk tomorrow about maybe ask the question, why am I so or why are you so depressed?
- 13:14[SPEAKER_01]: Listen to Bible tractors.
