- 0:00Speaker 1: Is that Miami Stanford, the Friday night game presented by
- 0:02Speaker 1: prize picks. We've got some canes in the chat. Appreciate
- 0:05Speaker 1: you guys for hanging out. Miami travels across the entire
- 0:11Speaker 1: country to get to Stanford, California for an Atlantic coast
- 0:15Speaker 1: conference game, which I, you know what? I won't, I won't,
- 0:21Speaker 1: I won't crop on the ACC yet.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Why it's fun.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I just, I've done it all off season. I'm trying
- 0:26Speaker 1: to be in a good mood because it's game week. Like,
- 0:29Speaker 1: I'll be in a bad mood when we get to
- 0:30Speaker 1: FSU SMU.
- 0:31Speaker 2: I'd say you got Monday to get better.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Miami versus Stanford. This is a game that I really
- 0:38Speaker 1: don't have a lot of concerns in. I know that
- 0:40Speaker 1: some of these spreads are a little bit bigger and
- 0:41Speaker 1: we'll get to some more closer ones here in a
- 0:43Speaker 1: few minutes, but it's a game that did you see
- 0:46Speaker 1: the Stanford injury report?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Oh, it's brutal, isn't it?
- 0:50Speaker 1: Did Hawaii have shanks during that? What was happening in
- 0:54Speaker 1: the Hawaii? Now, admittedly, I didn't watch it, but I
- 0:58Speaker 1: don't know what the heck happened to that. Stanford's whole
- 1:01Speaker 1: team is out. Miami has maybe a top three talent
- 1:03Speaker 1: profile in the entire country. I think what you're worried
- 1:06Speaker 1: about here is. The West Coast travel, which it sounds
- 1:09Speaker 1: like Mario's consulted some people about that. They left a
- 1:12Speaker 1: day early. I can't even, as the biggest Miami non-fan
- 1:18Speaker 1: in the group, I can't even think of a path
- 1:21Speaker 1: for Miami to lose this game. But what are you
- 1:24Speaker 1: guys' thoughts here? Whoever wants to take it can.
- 1:27Speaker 2: Tom, I'll let you go first.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I'm not terribly worried for the outcome of this game
- 1:33Speaker 3: when it comes to Miami. I want to see how
- 1:36Speaker 3: Darian Mensah operates within this offense. Do they need him
- 1:40Speaker 3: to use his legs to beat Stanford? I don't think so.
- 1:44Speaker 3: How much is this the Malachi-Tony show? Are they still
- 1:47Speaker 3: reliant on the running game as they were last year
- 1:49Speaker 3: and still focusing on the running game? I absolutely expect
- 1:52Speaker 3: that for Miami up against Stanford. I think Davis Warren
- 1:56Speaker 3: is going to come back down to earth a little bit.
- 1:58Speaker 3: He had himself a really nice game against Hawaii. I
- 2:00Speaker 3: think this game is really going to be difficult for
- 2:03Speaker 3: Davis Warren. He's going to think he's back in Ann Arbor.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I'm really curious to see what this defensive line looks like.
- 2:09Speaker 3: And this defense overall, we know about the number of
- 2:11Speaker 3: guys that went off to the National Football League. Has
- 2:14Speaker 3: Miami been able to replace on that assembly line? Are
- 2:17Speaker 3: they able to get pressure with three or four? Are
- 2:20Speaker 3: they able to get pressure with limited blitzing packages is
- 2:23Speaker 3: that secondary ball hawking and at least making it difficult
- 2:26Speaker 3: for davis warren to find his receivers i don't know
- 2:29Speaker 3: if i am terribly worried about the outcome as i
- 2:32Speaker 3: said i think there's a possibility of swanton bomb 43
- 2:35Speaker 3: great name by the way shout out jeff hardy is
- 2:37Speaker 3: putting um you know is putting a little bit of
- 2:40Speaker 3: emphasis on like hey it's a late night pacific coast
- 2:42Speaker 3: kick this is an east coast team in miami going
- 2:45Speaker 3: all the way out to palo alto There's a possibility
- 2:48Speaker 3: you could see a slow start for Miami, but I
- 2:50Speaker 3: think once they get into the flow of the game,
- 2:52Speaker 3: the Hurricanes roll. I want to see if Darian Mensah
- 2:55Speaker 3: is as advertised. Cole Thompson has said that he's potentially
- 2:58Speaker 3: the best quarterback in the country entering this season. I
- 3:01Speaker 3: think there's a lot of people who feel he could
- 3:02Speaker 3: be a Heisman favorite. I'm not saying he has to
- 3:05Speaker 3: start that campaign against Stanford, but I want to see
- 3:07Speaker 3: how this offense operates. And again, I don't expect Mensah
- 3:11Speaker 3: to need to be running all over the field like
- 3:14Speaker 3: he's Lamar Jackson to try and keep Miami alive, I
- 3:17Speaker 3: think he can hand the ball off. And it's probably
- 3:19Speaker 3: going to look a little bit similar to what Jade
- 3:21Speaker 3: Maiava was doing against San Jose State the other night,
- 3:23Speaker 3: where it's like, hey, you don't have to throw for.
- 3:26Speaker 1: 400 yards and all this stuff.
- 3:28Speaker 3: He was about, what, 25 or 29 in that opener
- 3:30Speaker 3: was Maiava. I expect something kind of similar for Darian
- 3:34Speaker 3: Mensah in this game. So I don't like this for Stanford.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Look, Stanford had a good win on Saturday. Congratulations to
- 3:40Speaker 2: Davida Pritchard on starting off this year on a high note.
- 3:44Speaker 2: It wasn't great. I mean, let's be real. Hawaii with
- 3:46Speaker 2: Mike Alato, which, by the way, is a fun, fun player,
- 3:49Speaker 2: like G5 Johnny Manziel, still found a way to fight back,
- 3:52Speaker 2: and they took the lead, and you need a big
- 3:53Speaker 2: scoring drive late to be able to go ahead and
- 3:55Speaker 2: secure the victory that you should have had going into
- 3:58Speaker 2: the fourth quarter, and it didn't happen. So that's a
- 4:00Speaker 2: major question mark. What I look for in this game, though,
- 4:03Speaker 2: is what does this defensive line look like, especially now
- 4:06Speaker 2: that you don't have an Akeem Mesidor and a Reuben Bain.
- 4:09Speaker 2: And I love the depth of Miami's defensive line. I
- 4:12Speaker 2: love the talent that Miami has on the defensive front.
- 4:15Speaker 2: And I think that they're great in the secondary. Cannot
- 4:17Speaker 2: wait to see what Bryce Fitzgerald looks like with another year.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I can't wait to see what you get from Chase
- 4:22Speaker 2: Smith at the weak linebacker spot. Omar Thornton coming on
- 4:25Speaker 2: in via the portal. I think it'd be a really
- 4:27Speaker 2: nice final replacement for Keontae Scott. But this is a
- 4:29Speaker 2: team that, whether you like it or not, does not
- 4:32Speaker 2: have an Akeem Mesidor and a Reuben Bain. But they
- 4:34Speaker 2: do have a Marquise Lightfoot. And Marquise Lightfoot is a
- 4:37Speaker 2: damn good player. And they do have a Damon Wilson.
- 4:40Speaker 2: And Damon Wilson was one of the better pass rushers
- 4:42Speaker 2: in the SEC last season. And they do have a
- 4:44Speaker 2: Justin Scott. And an Amon Moten. And they brought in
- 4:47Speaker 2: Depp with Jarquez Carter. And they still have a Herbert Scroggins.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And they still have guys like a Booker Pickett. So
- 4:53Speaker 2: it's like they have talent that should be able to
- 4:56Speaker 2: remind people it may not be the exact same elite
- 5:01Speaker 2: level play. But it's as consistent play. On the offensive side,
- 5:05Speaker 2: I think that you're all going to turn our attention
- 5:06Speaker 2: to Jackson Cantwell. He was the five-star talent that's now
- 5:09Speaker 2: going to be the future left tackle. What are you
- 5:11Speaker 2: going to get from him for the foreseeable future, for
- 5:13Speaker 2: the immediate? Because again, you want to see him get
- 5:15Speaker 2: caught up to speed by the time that we get to...
- 5:17Speaker 2: Oh my bad, he's at right guard. My apologies. But
- 5:19Speaker 2: you want to see a new offensive lineman get caught
- 5:21Speaker 2: up to speed for a game... Before you get to
- 5:23Speaker 2: face off against competition, like saying a Notre Dame later
- 5:27Speaker 2: in the season, because the offensive line is a bit new.
- 5:30Speaker 2: Doesn't mean it's new in terms of guys from the outside.
- 5:33Speaker 2: It's new from the starting experience. How quickly does this
- 5:36Speaker 2: gel together? And then, of course, Darian Mensah. I mean,
- 5:39Speaker 2: you know that he has Cooper Marquette. You know that
- 5:41Speaker 2: he has Malachi Toney. Who do you have as the
- 5:44Speaker 2: third option? Is it maybe Elijah Lofton, the tight end?
- 5:47Speaker 2: Do maybe you go with one of the freshmen that
- 5:49Speaker 2: could have a breakout game? Is it potentially Van Jacobs
- 5:52Speaker 2: that comes on in from South Carolina? Because remember, Cam
- 5:55Speaker 2: Vaughn's gone off the team, got kicked off. So who
- 5:57Speaker 2: is that third guy that just reminds everybody, this is
- 6:01Speaker 2: why you can't sleep on a Shannon Dawson offense and
- 6:03Speaker 2: why they're going to be in the playoff once again.
- 6:05Speaker 1: I love the talk around the defensive line and shout
- 6:07Speaker 1: out Melissa, hoodie girl, Canes fan that brought this up.
- 6:13Speaker 1: Cause I asked Eric McLean about this. They have two
- 6:16Speaker 1: guys that are projected to go in the first round,
- 6:19Speaker 1: a defensive tackle this year.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So the big question is about, Oh man, can the
- 6:24Speaker 1: defensive line stay as good as they were? Well, guess what?
- 6:27Speaker 1: The defensive end transfer in David Wilson projected to go
- 6:31Speaker 1: second round. If he plays as well as Miami folks
- 6:34Speaker 1: think he's going to play, they can have three first
- 6:37Speaker 1: round defensive linemen on that line there, just from those
- 6:41Speaker 1: three guys alone. That's not even counting what Lightfoot will be,
- 6:43Speaker 1: what others that we've mentioned will be. That defensive line,
- 6:48Speaker 1: I think, is going to be really, really freaking good. And, yeah,
- 6:52Speaker 1: it may not be as sack-heavy as last year's was.
- 6:55Speaker 1: I don't know. We'll see. The schedule's a little easier,
- 6:58Speaker 1: so they could put up really crazy numbers. But... I
- 7:02Speaker 1: love the comments there because again, in a game against Stanford,
- 7:05Speaker 1: what are the things you want to see? Well, you
- 7:07Speaker 1: don't want to see them kind of jet laggy because
- 7:08Speaker 1: of the way they played out at Cal two years ago.
- 7:10Speaker 1: You don't want to let them leave Cal around in
- 7:12Speaker 1: a game that they shouldn't for too long, of course.
- 7:16Speaker 1: But when you look at the specific things, what are
- 7:17Speaker 1: our questions about Miami this year? Well, it ain't running
- 7:20Speaker 1: back room. It ain't quarterback. It ain't wide receiver. It
- 7:22Speaker 1: ain't secondary. It's can they replace what they lost on
- 7:25Speaker 1: offense and defensive lines? I think they're going to mall
- 7:28Speaker 1: Stanford up front on both sides, especially with the Stanford
- 7:32Speaker 1: injuries that are taking place right now. I think they'll
- 7:35Speaker 1: get some of the young quarterbacks in and Luke nickel
- 7:37Speaker 1: and others. I think this could be an absolute bloodbath.
- 7:39Speaker 1: When you talk about the ACC kind of being a
- 7:42Speaker 1: one team league, which it feels that way this year.
- 7:45Speaker 1: And then you look at the other end with the
- 7:47Speaker 1: Stanford's and the Boston colleges of the world. This is
- 7:50Speaker 1: not a good matchup. If you were going to play
- 7:53Speaker 1: a road game in California at any point this year
- 7:55Speaker 1: as Miami, You probably want it week one. This sets
- 7:58Speaker 1: up really well for the Canes. I don't know what
- 8:01Speaker 1: the spread is, but give me an alt line for
- 8:03Speaker 1: Miami to even cover that as well.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Miami 24 and a half over under 48 and a half.
- 8:09Speaker 1: If Miami wants to cover the spread, they will. Yes.
- 8:12Speaker 1: If Mario wants to, that's kind of how I look
- 8:14Speaker 1: at this. And that's why the big spreads are tough
- 8:17Speaker 1: because we saw that last week with Stanford. I'm sorry,
- 8:19Speaker 1: with USC, Miami could go into the fourth quarter up 30.
- 8:25Speaker 1: And Stanford outscored them by 10 in the fourth quarter
- 8:28Speaker 1: because Miami puts all the backups in.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Backups in.
- 8:31Speaker 1: So you lose the spread. If Miami wants to cover
- 8:36Speaker 1: this spread, they will. I'll take the Canes to roll.
- 8:40Speaker 2: Take the Canes to win. I'm going to say backdoor
- 8:42Speaker 2: cover by Stanford.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Yeah, I can see that.
- 8:45Speaker 3: I think 24 and a half is a big number
- 8:46Speaker 3: to period in general i think there's the chance of
- 8:49Speaker 3: like i said maybe a slow start by miami you
- 8:51Speaker 3: might look at the first half score and be like
- 8:53Speaker 3: oh that's a tighter game and it might not really
- 8:55Speaker 3: feel that way if you're watching it consistently so i
- 8:58Speaker 3: i think i'm with you i think stanford just barely
- 9:01Speaker 3: covers this but i think this is miami handily see
- 9:04Speaker 3: i don't even.
- 9:04Speaker 2: Think that i think it's more so they put bta
- 9:07Speaker 2: but then backups come in and then we have a
- 9:08Speaker 2: conversation like we did about usc oh look at that
- 9:11Speaker 2: defense and how putrid it was you ain't giving up
- 9:14Speaker 2: 21 points baby you'll give up 10 Like I agree
- 9:16Speaker 2: with TJ, like 10. So it's like a 31 disadvantage
- 9:19Speaker 2: now turns into a 21 disadvantage. Like that's where you are.
- 9:21Speaker 2: But Miami rolls. Miami gives us a reasonable lead that
- 9:24Speaker 2: Darian Metz is a Heisman Trophy finalist, and this offense
- 9:26Speaker 2: is once again going to be as potent as possible.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Let's give some love quickly to prize picks. I've got
- 9:32Speaker 1: five picks there listed on the left. All new users
- 9:34Speaker 1: play a $ 5 lineup, get $ 150 in lineups if you
- 9:36Speaker 1: win using code HMA. I want you guys to buy
- 9:41Speaker 1: or sell each one of these picks that I have listed. I'm,
- 9:44Speaker 1: I am setting this lineup. So we'll see who ends
- 9:47Speaker 1: up being right. Who doesn't, um, I'm a buy for
- 9:51Speaker 1: all five of these Cole. So when you're grading this
- 9:53Speaker 1: on the week, like clearly I'm a buy, I set
- 9:55Speaker 1: the lineup, but I want to know if you guys
- 9:57Speaker 1: are buying and selling each one of them and we'll
- 9:59Speaker 1: go right down the list. Mark Fletcher scores in any
- 10:02Speaker 1: time touchdown. It's more or less than half. I think
- 10:05Speaker 1: he scores once against Stanford.
- 10:08Speaker 3: Agreed more. I don't think that's even something you have
- 10:11Speaker 3: to think that much about. Bye.
- 10:14Speaker 2: Cause I think he's getting two touchdowns in this game.
- 10:15Speaker 2: So a hundred percent.
- 10:16Speaker 1: We're teasing that one up. King Miller scores a touchdown
- 10:20Speaker 1: against Fresno State for USC. Yeah, I'll buy that.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Yeah, he got more of the carries than Wayman Jordan,
- 10:30Speaker 3: but part of that was just spelling Wayman Jordan. So
- 10:33Speaker 3: I think we'll see the two of them continue to
- 10:35Speaker 3: split carries early in the season here and especially against
- 10:37Speaker 3: lesser competition. Both guys get an opportunity.
- 10:39Speaker 1: So, yeah, I'll go with that with Miller.
- 10:42Speaker 2: I'll be a contrarian sellout. Give me Waymond Jordan three
- 10:44Speaker 2: touchdown day. But Miller ends up with more rushing yards.
- 10:47Speaker 1: If we all five buy all of them, then one,
- 10:50Speaker 1: I'm a genius or we're all idiots. Two, it's not
- 10:54Speaker 1: fun if you guys buy and sell everything. I did
- 10:56Speaker 1: try to pick five things I legitimately believed would happen.
- 10:58Speaker 1: This isn't like a try and trick Tom and Cole.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I'm setting this lineup and so risking the money. Cam Cook,
- 11:03Speaker 1: running back for West Virginia, gets a touchdown against Coastal Carolina.
- 11:07Speaker 1: They're a 20-plus point favorite. And I think they want
- 11:09Speaker 1: to go pretty run heavy out there in West Virginia.
- 11:11Speaker 1: I think Cam Cook does score in any time touchdown. Yeah,
- 11:14Speaker 1: that's a good buy.
- 11:15Speaker 3: I think I'll take that. I like that action.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Yeah, why not? I'm sorry. We can't always just go
- 11:20Speaker 2: sell and be the contrarian. I'll go buy for this one.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Cam Cook was a damn good running back at Jacksonville State.
- 11:24Speaker 1: He's in the same offense personnel. Jeremiah Smith gets one
- 11:27Speaker 1: this weekend. Who does Ohio State have?
- 11:33Speaker 2: Is it Grambling?
- 11:38Speaker 3: Football it's not ball state ball state yeah i think
- 11:44Speaker 3: that's a buy yeah.
- 11:47Speaker 2: I'm not gonna drop the ball on this one so
- 11:48Speaker 2: give me a buy as well.
- 11:49Speaker 1: All right here's a fun one dj lagway's passing total
- 11:53Speaker 1: is set at 238.5 i altered that down to 199.5
- 11:54Speaker 1: so does he get 200 yards passing against auburn I
- 12:05Speaker 1: tried to make that one a little easier because it's
- 12:07Speaker 1: a five teamer.
- 12:08Speaker 3: I think I'm going to say yes. And like, it's,
- 12:15Speaker 3: it's not a huge number. It's enough that he should
- 12:17Speaker 3: be able to put some, some yardage up.
- 12:21Speaker 1: I don't know. I like lagway.
- 12:23Speaker 3: He's as likely to throw four interceptions as he is
- 12:26Speaker 3: to throw for 400 yards. So I'm not entirely sure
- 12:29Speaker 3: this could literally go either way. So I coin flip,
- 12:31Speaker 3: I'm going to say yes.
- 12:33Speaker 2: I want to be different, but again, I already told you,
- 12:36Speaker 2: the number four passing offense in the country was Baylor
- 12:39Speaker 2: last year, and they didn't lose Jake Spavitol. So a
- 12:41Speaker 2: guy that's known for throwing it and also throwing it
- 12:43Speaker 2: a lot, even though there's a lot of turnovers, he's
- 12:45Speaker 2: the perfect Baylor quarterback in this current regime. So I'm
- 12:47Speaker 2: going to take the more. So bye.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't love it at 238. I do like
- 12:51Speaker 1: it at 199.5. Is it wrong that I loved it
- 12:52Speaker 1: at 238? I actually loved it at 238. I could
- 12:53Speaker 1: see it– When you're putting five things together, I feel
- 13:03Speaker 1: like you need a little insurance.
- 13:05Speaker 2: See, I could have seen him... I could see him
- 13:08Speaker 2: going for 333 and two touchdowns and four picks. Like,
- 13:12Speaker 2: that's a lot I could see happen.
- 13:15Speaker 1: Shout out to Eric for the great comment there on
- 13:17Speaker 1: the bottom.
- 13:18Speaker 2: GBM.
- 13:20Speaker 1: The prize pick segment. Again, play $ 5, get $ 150 in
- 13:24Speaker 1: lineups when you use code HMA. Cole, how did we
- 13:27Speaker 1: do last week? Do you have that quickly? You went.
- 13:30Speaker 2: Three and two. Tom went three and two. I went
- 13:33Speaker 2: three and two.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Oh, man. We are off to the races here. So
- 13:37Speaker 1: we'll see how we do next week. Tom agreed with
- 13:39Speaker 1: me on everything. And Cole disagreed on one, right? Was
- 13:41Speaker 1: that it?
- 13:42Speaker 2: Yep.
- 13:42Speaker 1: So either Tom and I have a one-point lead or
- 13:50Speaker 1: Cole has one-point lead after this week. So we'll see.
