- 2:26Welcome to MEN Help You MEN. I mean, it's Kevin Anderson
- 2:29here. This is our first episode of our
- 2:31podcast series here going live. We have our executive producer,
- 2:35Brandon Ortiz joining us tonight and Pastor Doug Chong, pastor of
- 2:39Christville Ministries and the founder of Men Helping Men.
- 2:42Tonight's topic of a discussion for us is relationship with God.
- 2:47And what does it mean to have a relationship with God going back
- 2:50to the very beginning, right? Doug?
- 2:52Talk about our relationship with God starting way back in the
- 2:56creation of who God created us. Right, Kevin.
- 2:59And The thing is, it's it's I was missing the mark a large
- 3:04portion of my ministry in life, about 25 years walking when God
- 3:09thought I was. I started off as a Catholic 1st
- 3:13and not really knowing how to build a relationship, just
- 3:15following the rules. You know, growing up, my dad was
- 3:18a retired police officer. So it's basically do what he
- 3:22says or else and transferring over to God.
- 3:27It was the same thing. Obey, obey, obey.
- 3:30But the difference is you're supposed to do it by faith.
- 3:35We're saved by grace, your faith, not by work.
- 3:39See the works is what really confused me.
- 3:41What does that mean? You know I'm working.
- 3:47I don't know. Do I not work?
- 3:49Do I do nothing? And they say Jesus paid for it
- 3:54all. So when they throw the word free
- 3:57in there, free means that to order something from Amazon,
- 4:02they drop it in the garage, you pick it up, put it in my hand,
- 4:06it didn't cost me anything. I didn't do anything that's
- 4:10free. So very, very confusing though.
- 4:14What is my role? If I'm digging A trench out in
- 4:19the back because God says to do it, how do I know I'm not like
- 4:24doing it when I was working for my dad and doing it by works,
- 4:29I'm doing it by faith. How do I know the difference?
- 4:33Is it just by saying I'm doing it by faith or do I have to feel
- 4:38chicken skin or what do I what? How do I know that I'm I'm not
- 4:44one of those guys on the Broad Rd. doing?
- 4:46Things by works and. Matthew 721 through 23.
- 4:50Jesus. Says I never made.
- 4:52And I couldn't understand and I was confused because every
- 4:57single church I go to, every pastor I talk to, he says the
- 5:01same thing. They don't know.
- 5:03And I didn't know so until I had to figure it out.
- 5:07Right. And you know, that narrow road
- 5:09and that 791314 you know there's a way which you know, you know
- 5:15where to walk. And a lot of the churches today,
- 5:18you know, talk about who said free gift at some nation and it
- 5:22said that say for everything somehow that's the that's the
- 5:26opportunity for you to have your life right before God.
- 5:29And somehow just saying that for everything, it's going to be
- 5:32hung the door from there and your life is going to be
- 5:34magical. Somehow you're going to crunch
- 5:36your way into heaven. But of course, we know that's
- 5:39not the truth because subsequently after it 13 it
- 5:42talks about the broad globe goes into 14.
- 5:45Then the road to heaven is an arrow, and few that be that find
- 5:49it right. Yeah.
- 5:50So why is it that few to be to find it?
- 5:53Out right, going, going to back to the basics, but back to
- 5:56creation. Why did God create Adam?
- 6:00Now he had legions of angels saying holy, holy, holy as the
- 6:03Lord. So he had people to worship him.
- 6:06He had people to do whatever he wanted them to do.
- 6:10So I couldn't understand. You're in, you're out.
- 6:13Do this, do that, do this for a creative God that created my
- 6:17fingerprints. Another 8 billion people.
- 6:19I'm the only one with the finger, His fingerprints, taste
- 6:23buds, my colored HD vision. Where I can enjoy His creation.
- 6:31I can enjoy the food he created. That's a creative creator.
- 6:37So why did He create us in his own image?
- 6:40He didn't create the angels in his own image.
- 6:43Same reason why we were children, because the person I
- 6:46love the most, my, my wife, Lilia, half of her, half of me,
- 6:52part of God is in us. We're not God's, but part of
- 6:56God's characteristics, his character is in US.
- 6:59So he wanted to spend time with Adam in in the garde of Eden and
- 7:04that's why he created Adam. So he spent according to God's
- 7:10Word every day with Adam, face to face.
- 7:14Now when sin came into the world, what happened?
- 7:19That relationship was broken like that.
- 7:23And from that moment on, we've been separated from God because
- 7:28of that sin. We haven't had that relationship
- 7:31with God. And there's, you know, coming up
- 7:34to, of course, you know, why Jesus came here for that, for
- 7:37that reason was to make the sacrifice for our lives too,
- 7:42build that up, have that opportunity for us to build that
- 7:44relationship with God again, wiping away our sin and dying in
- 7:49the crossroads. So, you know, Doug used the word
- 7:51free when we first started talking.
- 7:53So certainly if we're going to call ourselves a Christian, we
- 7:57can assume identify that you can get this very free.
- 8:00Correct, correct. And the, the free gift when they
- 8:04say the word free in the new Living Translation that is not
- 8:09in the original Greek text. The translator's added that.
- 8:14And to me it's overkill because gift already it's not earned.
- 8:19Who earns a gift? That's like me giving you a car
- 8:23that's a gift and the car's worth 50,000.
- 8:27And I say, OK, you, you, you got to work off 60,000.
- 8:31It's no longer a gift, right? Right.
- 8:33So a gift is, is exactly that you don't earn it.
- 8:38It's a given item, right transaction.
- 8:42So when they say the word free, what does Americans think free
- 8:45is? We don't do anything to receive
- 8:48it. But in Luke 14, Jesus says hunt
- 8:51costs. Whoever wants to save their life
- 8:56will lose it. Whoever loses their life for my
- 8:59sake will save their life. So it costs us our life.
- 9:05Rich young ruler Matthew 19. They said I, I, I didn't murder.
- 9:11I honor my mother and father. I don't lie.
- 9:12I don't steal. You want to be perfect, give
- 9:15away everything you have. And he walked away sad because
- 9:20he had much. Why not just say the prayer?
- 9:23Why didn't Jesus say, just say this prayer?
- 9:25Just believe I did it all. I'm going to do it all so you're
- 9:30safe. No, he had to sacrifice
- 9:34everything just like us. And the sacrifice isn't just
- 9:39giving it away and not not being attached to it.
- 9:43It's being attached to Jesus more than we're attached to
- 9:49anything else. Anybody else?
- 9:54God, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:56You know, we were talking this morning, Doug and our fellowship
- 9:58about, you know, if a husband and wife is having a problem,
- 10:02you know, in their marriage, you know, you know, typical
- 10:05counseling, you know, pastors counseling or regular counseling
- 10:09would say, you know, you know, take your wife on a date more,
- 10:12you know, love her more. Do all these things, these
- 10:14works, as it were. But in reality, Doug, you know,
- 10:18the, the, the aha moment for me this morning was, was not by
- 10:22doing all these works things was actually Doug, was by having
- 10:27that intimate relationship with God, getting our love source for
- 10:31men first. And then when we're equipped
- 10:33with that love and our relationship with God first,
- 10:36then we can actually have to love our wives like Christ loves
- 10:40the church. Correctly.
- 10:41Correct. Because we're born with a
- 10:43defective heart. It's like I grew up when I was
- 10:47born. I had asthma when I was younger.
- 10:50Not because I was a chain smoker in my mother's womb.
- 10:53It's because I inherited it, right?
- 10:55It was in the family line, so I was born with it and we're born
- 11:02with sin. It's in the family line, so when
- 11:05we're born with sin, the sin needs to be purged from us.
- 11:10Well, you can't purge all the sin, but the foolishness in our
- 11:13hearts needs to be purged from us.
- 11:15Foolishness is bound in the heart of a child with a rather
- 11:18disciplined legit far from Proverbs 2215.
- 11:22Train a child in the way they should go and when they are old
- 11:24they will not turn from the Proverbs 22/6.
- 11:27So our parents are supposed to set the boundaries according to
- 11:31God and keep us, encourage us, teach us the value of staying in
- 11:37the boundaries. What's the purpose, what's the
- 11:40reason? Do we have a a dictator of a God
- 11:45cracking the whip? Or when I sideswiped the
- 11:49guardrail and it scratched my nice black car and I'm kicking
- 11:55the guardrail and then I look over it's 100 foot Cliff on the
- 11:58other side of that guardrail. That guardrail just saved my
- 12:01life. I'm now hitting the guardrail.
- 12:04So it looks like it's doing a lot of damage, but it actually
- 12:09is saving our five spots. The man spots, boundaries, so to
- 12:14speak. Until what?
- 12:16Until our heart is changed because our heart is deceitful
- 12:18above all things and beyond pure.
- 12:21Jeremiah 17, nine. So until we're transformed,
- 12:25Romans 12/2, do not conform any longer to the pattern of this
- 12:29world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, heart,
- 12:32innermost thoughts and feeling. Then you'll be able to test and
- 12:36approve God's perfect will. So as His word starts to
- 12:43uncalled, the arteries of our hearts remove the hurt from our
- 12:48hearts because our parents did teach us how to guard our
- 12:51hearts, not blaming them, just recognizing no mark 721 through
- 12:5823. The heart is wicked, it's evil.
- 13:00You can't trust your heart. When the people say trust your
- 13:03heart, don't trust your heart, trust God's.
- 13:05Word trust God's word exactly right and so Doug, it's one of
- 13:11the things that Christ built ministries is that we don't just
- 13:15have a random way of actually building a relationship with
- 13:19God. We actually, there's a strategy
- 13:21by which to follow to actually develop that daily intimate
- 13:27relationship with God because you know, as I have mentioned
- 13:30before in our fellowships, you know how I used to approach
- 13:35reading God's word was I open it up and you know, O Holy Spirit,
- 13:38lead me to the word that I need to hear for today.
- 13:41I think I pointed my finger out and read, well, of course that
- 13:45didn't do any hard change at all for me, but I didn't do any hard
- 13:49transformation and it certainly didn't build any trust for me me
- 13:53to have a daily relationship with God.
- 13:55So, Doug, talk to us about the actual strategic way by which we
- 14:03have a daily routine to do that. I know just just like reading
- 14:08any book or listening it, it, it's there's a strategy behind
- 14:13it. For instance, if I say trunk,
- 14:17you don't know what I'm talking about.
- 14:19So if I just say the word trunk, you're going to lean on your own
- 14:23understanding to add in the rest of the words and you could say,
- 14:27OK, he's talking about a tree trunk.
- 14:30He's talking about a trunk from a car.
- 14:34If I don't put context around it, you won't know what the
- 14:38meaning of a word is. Point I'm making is that's what
- 14:40people do with scripture. They take pieces of scripture
- 14:45and they have it stand alone and then they add around, which is
- 14:50how they misinterpret scripture, myself included, a time back in
- 14:54the day. Now, what is Satan's biggest
- 14:57weapon? Reception.
- 15:01Reception, he's going to make you think you're interpreting it
- 15:04correctly and you're interpreting it wrong.
- 15:07So it's learning how to interpret God's word properly.
- 15:11Going back to the basics. So Brandon has a Bible basics.
- 15:15Hold that up, Brandon, the Bible basics.
- 15:19So the Bible basics is the start of our, of our, our training.
- 15:27This is to teach you how to interpret the Bible properly and
- 15:31read the five the five points. The five points are #1 Find the
- 15:36right Bible. So it's finding the right Bible.
- 15:39There's different translations. There's the the literal word for
- 15:44word for literal for literal flesh.
- 15:46Flesh means sinful nature. Then there's the dynamic, the
- 15:50NIV, the ESV is is the NISB is the is the literal, the dynamic
- 15:57NIV where they go instead of fruit of the womb, pregnant
- 16:02flesh, sinful nature. So they changed the words into
- 16:05today's terminology where we can understand it.
- 16:08And the last? Type.
- 16:10The last type is free. Is free or paraphrase.
- 16:13So free or paraphrase the message, the living Bible.
- 16:17Some people say that's not a translation because we're adding
- 16:20more human words onto God's divine words, which is can be
- 16:26dangerous because it can change the meaning if you put in too
- 16:30much words. And again, they're translating
- 16:32it to learn. To teach is to cause to learn.
- 16:37So we read the Bible to learn. So if we have thou shall not,
- 16:43you know, and and fruit of the womb, we don't know what that
- 16:46means. We don't speak in that old
- 16:47English type of language and it's a struggle to just read and
- 16:51you're going to have a dictionary next to you.
- 16:53It's like, forget about it. So you want a translation where
- 16:58people can understand, you can understand and it's still
- 17:00accurate. So those are the different types
- 17:03of translations that we teach you what each one is for and how
- 17:08to pick the right one, so to speak.
- 17:11Two. Yeah #2 is know the Old
- 17:14Testament versus the New Testament.
- 17:16And what's the difference between the two?
- 17:19Old Testament, Old covenant, old agreement?
- 17:23Primarily we're watching and looking at God, how he interacts
- 17:28with his people, what he loves, what he hates, how the people
- 17:32turned on him, worshipped other gods.
- 17:34Even King Solomon, who was the wisest person at the time,
- 17:38married into other other cultures, other nations and
- 17:43worshipped their gods. So we pull our lessons too of
- 17:47make sure we don't do that. Watch out when when we're around
- 17:50other belief systems, so to speak, and how God must have
- 17:55felt when they turn their back on you, not just turn their back
- 17:58on him, but worship other gods, other false gods.
- 18:01It's just like adultery. You're a spouse cheating on you.
- 18:03I mean the pain. I'm saying level so I can feel
- 18:07the pain and I see the grace where he didn't just wipe them
- 18:11all out and start again, wipe them off, start again, wipe them
- 18:14off, start again. You have a lot of grace and
- 18:16mercy. So New Testament is so God is
- 18:20the hero of the Old Testament, New Testament, Jesus, Gospels,
- 18:26Holy Spirit, the books, the the letters of epistles, Romans,
- 18:32First Corinthians, Second Corinthians.
- 18:33So you see different Jesus saying he's the Messiah, he's
- 18:39God in the flesh giving up his attributes now coming as a man
- 18:43and showing us how to walk through this sinful world.
- 18:49Being sinless and dying on the cross was taking our place.
- 18:52Now take me my place for what? So we can build a relationship
- 18:59with God? What was lost?
- 19:03Adam and Eve's relationship with God.
- 19:07Why 'cause he's holy. It's like having a A federal
- 19:12judge has his home and if he has a drug dealer living with you,
- 19:19what will people think? They would they would they would
- 19:23fire you. You cannot cohabitate with a a
- 19:28criminal when you're supposed to be the pillar of justice.
- 19:32God cannot change himself. Can God do anything?
- 19:37No, no, no. He cannot lie, He cannot sin.
- 19:41See, that's the catch. That's the con.
- 19:43Yeah, buddy. Yeah.
- 19:44You can do anything. You cannot lie.
- 19:46He was 618. It's impossible for God to lie.
- 19:49They say. Oh, he just.
- 19:50He just wouldn't. No, no, he can't.
- 19:53He can't change who he is. He can't change His Holiness.
- 19:57So he can't slide people in the back door because he cares about
- 20:02them. That's why it's so important.
- 20:04The cross is so important to remember why he sent Jesus.
- 20:09It's to build a relationship with them now.
- 20:14It's not because I read my Bible.
- 20:16That's how I build a relationship.
- 20:17Listening to His word is why I get into heaven.
- 20:21It's when I love Him with all my heart and mind, soul and
- 20:24strength. That's where the trust comes.
- 20:27Now that type of trust through love is what gets me into the
- 20:34door of heaven, so to speak. How do I how do you love
- 20:37somebody? How do you love your spouse?
- 20:39Why do you love your children? Is because the time you spend,
- 20:43yeah, knowing their character, their personality, you get, you
- 20:48know, people more by listening, not praying, not talking.
- 20:54So again, the main bullseye focus is relationship.
- 21:00Don't you have one of the comments you you make up a lot
- 21:02of the time, but really, really, really made sense to me as I
- 21:06started approaching building my daily relationship with guys.
- 21:10He asked me, though, because I had the opportunity to sit with
- 21:13somebody who I deeply admired and looked up to and was like,
- 21:16wow. And I had an hour with them.
- 21:19What would they give me? More talking with them or would
- 21:22I do for? Listening.
- 21:23Of course, the answer is a fear of listening.
- 21:26And that is what reading God's word is, is we're not to take
- 21:31and, and and and talk to God. Would it read and let him talk
- 21:35to us that that word speak to us and, and, and how do we do that,
- 21:40though? We have a a process by which we
- 21:43learn how to accurately interpret that.
- 21:46So we're not saying what does it mean to me, but what does God's
- 21:50word say in a relationship and how to build 1 daily
- 21:54relationship with. Right, so Old Testament, New
- 21:57Testament 3. And three is identify the genre
- 22:01and theme of the book. Different types of of 66 books,
- 22:06different type of genres, just like watching TV, drama, action,
- 22:10comedy. So there's different ways to
- 22:13interpret different books and remembering that's not directly
- 22:18written to us, it's written to the Israelites, the Gentiles,
- 22:22the Jews. And do does it?
- 22:25Is it for us too? Yes, it is, but we have to take
- 22:29the step exegetically to go back in time and see who he's
- 22:33communicating to and what he's communicating about.
- 22:38For instance, works when you interpret the word works.
- 22:43Who is he talking to? He's talking to the Jews.
- 22:45What is he talking about in Galatians and Ephesians?
- 22:48He's talking about them thinking the Old Testament Old covenant
- 22:53or agreement law and blending in with the New covenant or
- 22:57agreement circumcision certain foods.
- 23:02You have to do this in order to be saved and Paul is saying it's
- 23:07not by works. It's not by the circumcision or
- 23:10why you're not eating. You cannot earn your way to
- 23:14heaven. So when we don't know this the
- 23:18600 laws they had in the Old Testament we think of works as
- 23:22I'm not to do anything. Wow, what a deal.
- 23:26That's not it. Paul is saying don't put more on
- 23:31top of God's commands, faith in Jesus, don't try to add works
- 23:36and like don't drink coffee, you know, stand on like click your
- 23:39hairs together, your heels, your heels together three times and
- 23:43say, I want to go to heaven, I want to go to heaven, I want to
- 23:45go to heaven and then total. And and so it's not a a
- 23:51performance, it's the relationship with God because
- 23:56remember, who would you let live in your house?
- 23:59You wouldn't have to trust the person.
- 24:02You wouldn't just let let anybody live in your house with
- 24:04you. Wait, let's say you got kids,
- 24:06younger kids, you know, with all those molesters out there, you
- 24:09know a lot of people going with your daughters and you know, you
- 24:13need to trust him. Heaven is God's house.
- 24:17Who's he going to let live with him?
- 24:19People that love him. What does heaven represent to a
- 24:23Christian 24/7 full time relationship with God the
- 24:27Father? And if that's not what we want
- 24:30to do here, we will not go to heaven.
- 24:33We will go we cannot live with God.
- 24:36The only other place to live, unfortunately, is with Satan in
- 24:39hell. And that's an ugly thing to say,
- 24:42but that's the that's the truth. If we don't know the severity of
- 24:48not sacrificing our life now we're going to find out the hard
- 24:53way. They'll be weeping in hell and
- 24:56say I wish I knew. Why didn't Christ build men
- 25:00helping men? Tell me we are.
- 25:04Yeah, exactly. That's what we've done.
- 25:06And exactly, Doug. And so going with the, you know,
- 25:10the spiritual team, you have a very structured way by which to
- 25:16do that. It's not just a random approach.
- 25:19And again, it's our sacrifice. It's us laying our lives down,
- 25:24going back to economy about being free.
- 25:26There's nothing about this. It's a life for life Jesus that
- 25:30died for us. It's it's now our life for his
- 25:33life. And so that's what we at Christ
- 25:35both we do here is we we we build that relationship knowing
- 25:40the house to accounting what it takes to actually build a
- 25:45relationship with God through our daily spiritual team.
- 25:48Doesn't want to expand on that a little bit more.
- 25:50With what daily spiritual team is?
- 25:52Yeah. And before we, before we go back
- 25:54to the spiritual routine to, to, to touch on what Kevin is saying
- 25:58about free. It's like if we, we have type 2
- 26:02diabetes because of eating that food.
- 26:06So the how we reverse type 2 diabetes are our doctor tells us
- 26:14if we change our diet, let's say she says to go, let's say it's a
- 26:18sheet. Well, vegan.
- 26:20See, I had high blood pressure. I have a commercial driver's
- 26:23license. So your blood pressure got to be
- 26:24below 135 overnight if it's over or over 100 if it's over that
- 26:29you can't, they'll take your license.
- 26:31So I went, I changed my diet, I went vegan and my blood pressure
- 26:37dropped. I, I went back to the gym.
- 26:40So if I had a billion dollars, let's say, and I said, OK, I
- 26:44want to buy the cure. You can't buy the cure.
- 26:47It's not my work. It's not my, it's not my
- 26:49payment. I'm talking works it's by a
- 26:52lifestyle change, changing what I eat, changing my activity or
- 26:58my lack of activity, going to the gym, that'll reverse the
- 27:04process or the the disease so to speak.
- 27:07Same with sin. Sin is like cancer, you can't
- 27:11pay for it. Bezos can't give 2 billion and
- 27:16OK, I got salvation. It's the relationship.
- 27:19You can't pay for it. Well, some people can buy love
- 27:21for. That right?
- 27:23Now you can't pay for genuine love.
- 27:26It's spending that time, that quality time with somebody.
- 27:31You know when people go through hard times like in Vietnam or
- 27:35Iraq when they go through life altering times, the people that
- 27:39they were there through the bad or hard times when they create a
- 27:43pot. So imagine husband and wife
- 27:46going through the hard Financial Times, having their first, their
- 27:50third child. Your child was sick, crying
- 27:53together, hugging each other, going through those hard times.
- 27:57That's where the love deepens and spending time with God every
- 28:01single day when the problems arise, clinging to Him and
- 28:05nobody else can help us and change us internally how we
- 28:09feel. We start to build an obscene
- 28:11ball and. That and that kind of mends to
- 28:15one of your great stories. You tell me about the blonde and
- 28:18told me about trusting to the point where we trust him without
- 28:23an idea and that can only come truthfully.
- 28:28Of course, Doug, whether we actually have that deep into the
- 28:31relationship with God, we can't say that we trust God and we
- 28:35have no idea who it is right. Building that relationship.
- 28:38We build that trust. We build the idea of building to
- 28:42understand the the bigger idea, the bigger picture of some
- 28:45mistake of the magnitude of God's love for us.
- 28:48Correct, correct. And there's three IS and Randy's
- 28:51going to read that in a little while.
- 28:52Be ready. So the three IS, is intellectual
- 28:55faith. It's understanding why we need
- 28:57God, why we need Jesus, so to speak.
- 29:00What what happened? What did we do, what, what, what
- 29:03did we inherit? And when we understand that sin
- 29:06atonement, repenting veracity and enlisting like a like in the
- 29:11military, we start to at least comprehend why we go to the gym,
- 29:16why I do cardio. When I do cardio, it's, it's not
- 29:21like I get off the treadmill, my shoulders, everything, you know,
- 29:24my stomach gets flatter. It's, it's like an investment.
- 29:26You know, you got to know the science behind it in order to
- 29:30get on that treadmill and walk and not move, not move, not, not
- 29:34go anywhere. You just keep walking in the
- 29:36same area, you know, So it's you got annoying intellectually.
- 29:40Same thing with with faith. We have to know why we're
- 29:46following by why we're we're repenting, turning from our sin.
- 29:50What is sin? Where's the where's the lines on
- 29:52the road? And we need to know the lines in
- 29:55the world where they where they are so we can avoid them.
- 29:57We need to know our job description, so to speak.
- 29:59Job, what makes God happy, what what hurts him and that comes
- 30:04from reading his word. And then the next one is
- 30:06intimate. Now the trust, we can trust
- 30:10people, but there's only a, a small core of people that you
- 30:16would trust with your life, with your finances, with your
- 30:20children, you know, so with your car, it's not everybody.
- 30:27So it's, there's different levels of trust.
- 30:29It has to be a deep trust where you love him and hate everybody
- 30:33else in comparison, even the closest people to him.
- 30:35How do you do that? Spending time with him?
- 30:38So go ahead Brandon, and read the read the rest of the Bible
- 30:42basics. You left prophets up.
- 30:45Yeah, we were on #3 the genres, now we're on 4 is reading
- 30:49context and apply only when applicable.
- 30:56What it says. This is God's word.
- 30:59Remember that He is doing the talking.
- 31:05Always read no less than a paragraph so you can get the
- 31:10whole thought of what the author is telling us.
- 31:15You never want to read into the Bible and have it say what you
- 31:21want it to say. Questions to ask yourself when
- 31:26reading the Bible? Who is the author talking to?
- 31:32What is happening at the time? When is the right?
- 31:36When is this written? When was this written?
- 31:40Where was the intended audience? Does this apply to me?
- 31:47If so, how? This is practical.
- 31:50Example, drive the car out of the garage and paint it.
- 31:57Paint the garage or paint the car.
- 32:02Then it says reading context. After we are done painting the
- 32:06kitchen and the living room I need you to drive the car out of
- 32:13the garage and point and paint. Correct answer.
- 32:18Paint the garage so. Yeah.
- 32:22And then the last five is is the accurate?
- 32:26And Yep, understanding accurate doctrine and sound doctrine.
- 32:31So doctrine. That's good.
- 32:34So those are the topics that the Bible basics will go over and
- 32:39that's a bookmark that's back in the day when we read our Bibles.
- 32:44So we the spiritual routine. The spiritual routine is
- 32:50actually what we do. So to start our day in prayer,
- 32:55read our Bible daily and we have a reading plan and talk here
- 33:02here talk ask. Those are acronyms H is his word
- 33:07E exegesis are explained and how do we apply the passage or
- 33:11request the help of the Holy Spirit.
- 33:14So that's more for intellectual knowledge, but talk is more
- 33:18intimate telling God how we feel like ladies you when you journal
- 33:22guys journal too. I'm just saying I remember the
- 33:24Diaries and so when you write things in your diary of how you
- 33:29feel and that's what the tea is. Sometimes we we're going through
- 33:32things nobody's around to talk to.
- 33:34You're right to God. And then he asked him, how, how
- 33:37do I get to this father? What am I doing?
- 33:40And Ellen, listen, you look for Scripture, the flow of his word,
- 33:44his character. What do you think he would tell
- 33:46you? And then Kay know that he's with
- 33:49you. Thank you.
- 33:50So these are acronyms that help us deepen our relationship with
- 33:55God and parents. When you if they're getting
- 34:04enrolled. What if what if you write down
- 34:05for your admit your sins? I get it, you don't, you don't
- 34:09think you should. So that's when you know there's
- 34:12no lines on the road. They have their license, but
- 34:14they don't see no lines on the road.
- 34:15That's dangerous. So we need to know where the
- 34:18lines are. Dessert.
- 34:20Have some dessert. That's that's the biblical
- 34:22books. Pastors writing books.
- 34:25Not all the books are the same. Some of them are false teaching.
- 34:28A lot of them, I get it.
- 36:58I get that fear. So we can relate to others
- 37:01having a hard time walking with God because of see.
- 37:06And that's how we deepen our roots with God and we we depend
- 37:09on him. It's in the hard times.
- 37:12He purposely puts us in the areas that we cannot do on our
- 37:16own. Just like a good personal
- 37:18trainer, a good partner in the gym, they'll tell you to go to
- 37:22failure and then the, the extra 3 or 4 rems after failure where
- 37:26they got to help you a little is where you grow the most.
- 37:29So God will make it'll be in a, you know, we're going through
- 37:33storms where we can't handle on our own for a reason.
- 37:37So we come to Jesus when we're, we're, we're reinberting so he
- 37:40can give us rest. But it's how that's what we
- 37:43learn how to do. So the reading plan very
- 37:46important and that is the spiritual routine that we follow
- 37:50here in Christ build right, Kev. Absolutely, Doug, absolutely,
- 37:55and that you know, for for me and and building, you know, I
- 38:00remember coming and sitting with, you know, Brandon and Doug
- 38:03at the beginning and saying, you know, I'm so excited that I get
- 38:06I I get to rebuild my without renew my relationship with God
- 38:11and Doug Kev, I hate that I got bad news for him.
- 38:14You know what's that you've never had a relationship with
- 38:16God. Yeah, I hate to say being there
- 38:20a bad news and and I realized of course I didn't have a
- 38:24relationship. I had AI had my own as in Romans
- 38:2910 week before my own idea of what it looked like to have a
- 38:32relationship with that. But that's the point about
- 38:35price, though, I said it's not a Mystic way of building a
- 38:39relationship and having a daily fellowship about knowing him
- 38:42into me. It's a very, very structured and
- 38:46very and, and when I say structured, it's it's hold, it's
- 38:49it's holding us accountable, you know, because our sin nature
- 38:52doesn't want to do this. Our sin nature wants to, you
- 38:54know, you know, go, you know, do whatever, but we got it.
- 38:57We have to come to that every morning.
- 38:59That's our start into the foot across, knowing that without
- 39:04without that or without coming before the foot across knowing
- 39:08that that we desperately need every day.
- 39:12And when we come to that place, we realize that our everything
- 39:16life is sustained and how it gives us then, you know, that we
- 39:21just referred back to, you know, having problems with marriages,
- 39:24having problems with their children, having problems in
- 39:26their life. We can deal with those things
- 39:29now, but we always say that what's the first two fruits of
- 39:35someone who you know is truly about relationship?
- 39:38With that love and forgiveness, those are those are the 2 main
- 39:42main traits the reason why God St.
- 39:44Jesus right? Thus he loved the world, he was
- 39:47only without his Son that whoever believes in and trusts
- 39:51in you intellectually, intimately and initiate is the
- 39:54last sort of applying it saying I do, I will be my wife's
- 40:00husband and I will cherish her till till death was smart you
- 40:04and be faithful to him in my group.
- 40:06Not to say I will never. I don't think other women are
- 40:09pretty contracting me, but my love is different from you.
- 40:13I only have eyes on her. That's the difference when we
- 40:16commit to God. Jesus takes our place on the
- 40:19cross. What is the covenant or
- 40:20agreement? I take Jesus place and I live
- 40:24for him. I live for God the Father,
- 40:27building my relationship, picking up where Adam left off.
- 40:31So not go do this, do this, don't do that.
- 40:36If you don't come through the Father, that's works.
- 40:40You're trying to do it on your own strength or with your own
- 40:43strength. The whole purpose of not being
- 40:46able to do it is why so we need a spotter.
- 40:51We need God. If we don't have God, we're
- 40:57dead. We can do nothing good.
- 41:01The point is, everything goes through Him.
- 41:06And a really critical element to all of this also is not as and
- 41:10how we read God's Word is actually having the Holy Spirit
- 41:14help us. Jesus, Jesus said, you know, if
- 41:17John 1426, the comfort show teach, you know, comfort you,
- 41:21but teach you all things. The Holy Spirit is the one that
- 41:24teaches us to really understand what the word of God says about
- 41:28our Father and how to build our relationship.
- 41:31And he reveals what's in our hearts so we can come to God and
- 41:34say, God, you know, sometimes we say, you know, God, help me, I
- 41:37love you. You know, yeah, all the time.
- 41:41All that exactly right, Doug. So, but Doug, anything else you
- 41:45want? Yeah, and just remember first
- 41:47John 514 and 15 ask if we ask anything along the lines of
- 41:52God's will, his promises will give it to you.
- 41:56So when we ask if we come to the foot of the cross, everything
- 41:59meaning listen building our relationship, Ask me and help me
- 42:03to love you put all my heart minds over this year.
- 42:07Help me to to love my wife like Jesus of the church wives, love
- 42:11my husband like you would want me to love.
- 42:15Help me to help me humble. Every time I read God's word, I
- 42:19pray for him to implant that in my heart.
- 42:24Thinking of others better than myself, laying all my life for
- 42:28my brother or sister, loving my enemies.
- 42:32Help me, help me to forgive. And that's little by little 1%
- 42:39like we said it did. We start to change.
- 42:42And. Just like we can have when God
- 42:45does this, he gives us Karate Kid moments that wax on wax off
- 42:50Denison. Yeah, wax stuff, sand the floor
- 42:54and then he kick it and he blocking wall.
- 42:58We don't realize what God is doing in us until we we come to
- 43:03these these moments that we can recognize.
- 43:07Let's say for instance, somebody that couldn't do it, and even if
- 43:11they gave me a billion dollars, they didn't know how to forgive
- 43:14him. That guy hurt me so deeply.
- 43:15Every time I saw him, I wanted to do something sinful, lay
- 43:21hands on him, not in a good way, but when I keep praying for him
- 43:26and really asking the Lord, help me to mean the prayer of your
- 43:29mother. Help me to ask Him to bless him
- 43:34and change his heart and have Him to love you Father, so He
- 43:38can go again. As well.
- 43:40Tell me to mean that that prayer little by little you did.
- 43:44And I saw a guy right after. Coincidence.
- 43:47No, that's The Karate Kid move. The guy said, hey, what's up,
- 43:52man? He didn't recognize me.
- 43:53And I said, hey, what's up? I find it was free.
- 43:58Free to what? Free to follow God, free from
- 44:02Satan telling me you're a, you're a you're a wimp.
- 44:05You're going to let that guy walk away after what he did to
- 44:08you? Are you scared?
- 44:09You're a coward. I like Jesus becoming like
- 44:13Jesus. I can love like him and forgive
- 44:16like him. Thank you, Lord.
- 44:19And that's from a daily relationship.
- 44:22And so guys episode. 1. Why were we created?
- 44:31Created for relationship and we've got some great resources

- 45:22if you apply yourself. God says when you seek me,
- 45:25you'll find me when you seek me. And we're not going to want to.
- 45:30One of the hardest thing you're going to do.
- 45:32Anybody wants to come after me? This is taking my place.
- 45:35What is my part to deny myself and take on my cross daily,
- 45:40daily, every day. What does that mean?
- 45:42Dying to sell? What does that mean?
- 45:45First, making the time to spend, sacrificing my time and spending
- 45:53listening and learning. Father teaching.
- 45:57I need you every single day. Praying for Him to change your
- 46:01heart. Guarantee this is last thing.
- 46:05There's twins. There's let's say Brandon and
- 46:09Kevin. The names don't matter.
- 46:11They're twins. So Brandon reads for two hours a
- 46:16day, praying and begging the Lord to change his heart, help
- 46:22his heart to conform to God's word.
- 46:26Let the psalmist says Psalm 119. Kevin goes to church, he has a a
- 46:32big prosperity gospel ministry and he goes to Bible study in
- 46:40the middle of the week. So he so let's say 4 hours a
- 46:42week, right in two hours a day, every day, 365 days a year,
- 46:48seven 2 * 52 weeks in a in a year.
- 46:53So at the end of the year, if you got $20,000 so we bet we
- 47:00won't God more than to do Kevin Abraham yes, you don't have to
- 47:05be a math major to understand that I'll have been my 20,000
- 47:10Abraham especially with the Holy Spirit as the master teacher and
- 47:16he's praying help me please, Lord always pray help me.
- 47:20I need your help. Guarantee, Guarantee.
- 47:24You're going to change. Guarantee.
- 47:28Can we meet again? God bless you to.
- 47:30The feet
