- October 28 Don't Give God the Leftovers Topic: Worship. Scripture: Malachi 1:6 6 “A son honors his father, and a servant his master. If I am a father, then where is my honor? And if I am a master, where is the respect due me?” says Yahweh of Armies to you priests who despise my name. “You say, ‘How have we despised your name?’” Context Malachi confronts priests whose worship has become careless. The following verses describe defective offerings being brought to God—worship that technically continues while honor and reverence have drained out of it. Let It Shape Your Life Leftovers are not always about money. We can give God the leftovers of attention, energy, honesty, gratitude, and time. Worship becomes whatever fits after everything else has taken the best. Malachi’s challenge is not a demand for flashy religious performance. It is about honor. The priests were still doing religious things, but they were treating God as if He deserved less care than an ordinary authority figure. That question can reach us without turning faith into guilt-driven perfectionism. God is not impressed by exhaustion, and rest is not disrespect. The issue is whether our choices reveal that God matters or merely remains on the schedule. Sometimes honoring God means giving Him focused prayer instead of distracted scraps. Sometimes it means integrity, generosity, attention to Scripture, or obedience in the place we would rather keep untouched. Think About It Where has your relationship with God been receiving whatever is left rather than deliberate attention and honor?
