- 0:04SPEAKER_01: The Father's Business was founded by Sylvia Gunter to encourage people to a deeper relationship with God.
- 0:10SPEAKER_01: I'm Elizabeth Gunter Powell.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: And I am Kimberly Roddy.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Father's Business Podcast.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: We are so glad that you've joined us.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Welcome to episode three of our series, where we are going through the resource by the Father's Business called For the Family.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: And today we are going to be touching on some spiritual warfare issues when it comes to praying for the family.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: So, Elizabeth, why don't you jump in with us and it's good to be here?
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was thinking last night, knowing that we were going to do this today, just about it almost sounds like a cliche because it's been said so many times, but uh we are living in the middle of a war.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Um, there is a a battle going on in the spirit realm that impacts us as individuals and impacts us as families a whole lot more than we can ever begin to understand or imagine.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: The way that he leverages relationships against each other and just all the many things um that are going on that the enemy wants to destroy the family.
- 1:18SPEAKER_01: Because again, it was something that God created when he put Adam and Eve together as a family.
- 1:24SPEAKER_01: Um, and as I was thinking about that, I I thought, you know, I just need to wake up every morning and as I'm getting out of bed, go, you're in a war.
- 1:34SPEAKER_01: And I immediately went to thinking about people in Ukraine right now, um, versus where we're living in the United States or other countries around the world.
- 1:44SPEAKER_01: And people in Ukraine right now don't need to be reminded that they're living in a war when they wake up.
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Um, and we've been very uh involved through the father's business with our connections in Romania helping out Ukrainian refugees, and I've heard the stories of how um when uh Adi, our teammate, took some kids to a camp for a couple of days out in the woods into a part of the country that was safe, that they were hadn't they had forgotten what it was like to have a night of sleep without hearing a siren go off.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: And just comments like that, where while I can watch the news, I can read the emails, I don't know what it feels like to wake up in the middle of a war.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: And yet we need to because we are, and I'm not afraid of my house blowing up when I wake up in the morning, but at the same time, it's so easy to get focused on what's going on in my life, and I need to get this from the grocery store, or I've got these things to do today and get in the mundane things of life and forget that there is a much larger battle going on, and we are called to fight in that battle, to partner with God in that war.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: So I don't want to make it a cliche statement, but we really are living in a war.
- 3:03SPEAKER_01: And I think there's nothing more that the enemy would want than for us to forget that.
- 3:07SPEAKER_00: That's a good reminder.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: And when I think about being in a war, I also think about how we need to prepare for the war, right?
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: Um, and so the passage that always comes to mind for that is the armor of God, uh, the Ephesians 6 passage.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Um, so there is a section in the For the Family booklet that talks about putting on the armor.
- 3:31SPEAKER_00: And so as you recognize that you are in a battle, let's not pretend that there isn't one, like you were just saying, Elizabeth, a really good reminder.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: And let's begin to actively pray on the armor of the Lord.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: And so when you look at this resource, this is how we can pray.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Uh, Father, our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, the authorities, the powers of this dark world, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: They are merely fallen angels cast down from the heav from heaven by the command of the true and living God.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: They are in subjection to Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: We are in Him and stand in His already assured victory.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Therefore, we put on the full armor of God, so that when the fiery darts come, we may be able to stand our ground.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: So we stand firm because we have taken up these weapons.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: So, Elizabeth, let's pray on the armor together.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: We buckle the belt of truth around our waist.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Truth is the person of our Lord Jesus, he is the way, the truth, and the life.
- 4:38SPEAKER_01: We put on the breastplate of righteousness.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: The person and sinless sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ is our righteousness.
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: We put on our feet the sandals of preparation of the gospel of peace.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: The person of the Lord Jesus Christ Himself is our peace.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: We take the shield of faith which extinguishes all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: The person of the Lord Jesus Christ is the author and finisher of our faith.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: He is all the faith that we need.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: We take the helmet of salvation.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: My Lord Jesus Christ Himself alone is my salvation, his mind guards our mind.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: We take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: The Word is the person of Jesus who came in the flesh and defeated the works of the enemy.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: His word never returns void.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: We clothe ourselves in all of Jesus and pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
- 5:48SPEAKER_01: Father, thank you that no weapon formed against us will prevail, and we will refute every tongue that accuses us.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and this is their vindication from me, declares the Lord.
- 6:01SPEAKER_01: The one who was born of God keeps us safe, and the evil one cannot harm us.
- 6:06SPEAKER_01: We pray all this in Jesus' name.
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: That's such a powerful exercise, and it doesn't take that long to do.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: And there have been seasons in my life, and as we do this, I'm convicted I need to do it again, where I would take a list of the pieces of armor and just tape them on my mirror.
- 6:26SPEAKER_01: So as I am getting up and getting dressed and doing things to my physical body to get myself dressed, that I would just sit there and say, God, I'm also going to choose to put on each each piece of this armor.
- 6:39SPEAKER_01: And I also remember at times, it wasn't every day, but often um we'd be driving uh carpool on the way to school, and mom would have me and and some other people in the car, and she would just like, okay, everybody, let's get dressed spiritually for the day.
- 6:56SPEAKER_01: And we would all imagine, you know, putting on those things.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: But I love this version of the prayer because it it not only talks about the pieces of the armor, but how Jesus truly is each piece of those armor.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: And so what you're basically doing is you're putting on Jesus and allowing him to be a part of your day.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: I was thinking the same thing because I know for me, I did the same thing for a season.
- 7:19SPEAKER_00: It was putting that on my mirror.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: And so I was actively putting on the armor at the beginning of the day.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Um, and then remembering to do that, trying to remember to do that throughout the day, right?
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Um, but as you were saying earlier, you know, you don't have to have a reminder.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: The Ukrainians right now don't have to have a reminder that they're at war.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: And so how can we get into a habit or a ritual ritual or a liturgy where we recognize that the word of God commands us to be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power?
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: And so we do daily stand with that armor girded on, like it is part of how we dress for the day spiritually, not just thinking I have to dress physically, but knowing if we have the awareness and the knowledge we are in a battle, then we wake up every day knowing that and preparing for that.
- 8:13SPEAKER_00: So it is definitely a good reminder.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think it just has to become a spiritual discipline like other things, like choosing to read the word and spend time in prayer.
- 8:23SPEAKER_01: It just has to become a part of the rhythm of our day.
- 8:27SPEAKER_01: Um, because uh I have reminders throughout the day that we're in a war.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: You know, I mean, you know, we know what it feels like when the when something goes sideways in a relationship or chaos ensues in your life.
- 8:39SPEAKER_01: You're like, oh wow, love the spiritual warfare today.
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: But uh, I think as I've been preparing for these podcasts and going back through For the Family again, I've just been uh convicted of why am I always waiting until spiritual warfare shows its ugly head?
- 8:56SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Or I then think, oh, I need to be prepared for this.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: Um versus that that idea that if you live in a war zone, you don't have to be reminded every morning when you wake up that you're in a war.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: So as we walk through this warfare section in the booklet, the next piece is the victory of Jesus.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Um, and I think we'd we would just like to pray this in our podcast today, right?
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Is that what we want to do?
- 9:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: I this is actually one of I, you know, I don't have an absolute favorite, but this one is in the top 10 because so oftentimes spiritual warfare praying gets so focused on the enemy and pushing back or hacking and whacking or whatever, and how much power there is when we just proclaim that we already have victory in Jesus.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: And you know, nothing can stand against that.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, I would love for us to pray through this so that if there are people that don't have the book yet um or just need someone to pray over them, they can they can listen to this as we pray this for everybody.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: You are the name above all names, the Lord of heaven and earth, king of all kings, El Elian, most high God, captain of the Lord's hosts.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: You are the commander of all commanders, the commander of the armies of heaven, who has no equal who cannot lose, and you are by our side.
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: All power is yours, sovereign God our Father.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: We confess Jesus as our Savior and Lord.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: We are in Christ, redeemed by his sacrifice on the cross, cleansed and clothed in his righteousness.
- 10:31SPEAKER_01: We do not presume our safety, we step intentionally into the protection of the blood of the worthy Lamb of God.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: We plead the mighty name of our Lord Jesus Christ over all our personal lives, all of our family, all of our possessions, our jobs and businesses, our ministries, and the people in our personal and spiritual jurisdiction.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: The blood of the spotless Lamb of God is our shield of protection from the destructive intent of the enemy.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: Jesus has given us legitimate authority to tread on all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall injure us, according to Luke 10, 19.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Because of the cross of Jesus, the devil has no place in us, no power, dominion, or authority over us.
- 11:26SPEAKER_00: We overcome him by the victory of the blood of Jesus.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: He has no unsettled claims nor effectual assignments against us.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: We stand against every lie the deceiver ever told us.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: We take back all ground we ever gave him and close every door we ever opened to him, intentionally or in ignorance.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: We refuse his accusations and condemnation because all our sins and guilt are nailed to the cross.
- 11:57SPEAKER_00: We refuse to converse with the devil.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: We refuse his tactics of fear and intimidation.
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: Our weapons through God are mighty to pull down enemy strongholds in the name of Jesus, in his authority, by his blood, according to his word, and in the power of his spirit, we pull down every stronghold of the enemy in our lives.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: We resist everything that exalts itself against knowing God and obeying his will.
- 12:27SPEAKER_01: We overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: We claim the perfect freedom of Jesus.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: We receive all the fullness of the Holy Spirit living in us.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: We yield all of ourselves to all of God.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: We plead, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done in our lives as it is in heaven this day.
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: We stand in all the victory that is in Christ Jesus, in whose precious name we pray.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: Amen.
- 12:58SPEAKER_00: I really appreciate that this prayer reminds me just of the truth of the gospel.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: Uh it kind of like in some ways it's complex because it's warfare, right?
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: And warfare is complex.
- 13:13SPEAKER_00: And at the same time, it takes me back to the basics of the blood of Christ took care of things.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Christ sacrificed, took care of my sin.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: He exchanged his righteousness for my sin.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: And those things are put to death.
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:33SPEAKER_00: Like I can stand it, it takes us back to what we need to know when we are in warfare is our position in Christ.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Goes right back.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: I feel like we might say this in every podcast, who God is and who we are in Him.
- 13:52SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 13:53SPEAKER_01: Because I I know for me, sometimes when I am trying to, you know, claim victory in Jesus or pray against something that I feel that's attacking me, the accusation that comes from the enemy is, who are you to declare, request, pray for that because of this sin over here that you did in your past.
- 14:18SPEAKER_01: And I so often have to even in the middle of the prayer say, My authority is not based on my behavior.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: I'm not, I don't have the authority to pray this way because I've been a good Christian.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: My authority comes because of who I am and in my position with Christ.
- 14:37SPEAKER_01: And but it's real, it's it's not unusual when I try to push back or I'm praying for someone else.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: That who are you question pops up, like, you know, show me your credentials and you know, let me let me show you your shame and and remind you of where you haven't met the mark of perfection.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: And I think so that's the other reason why I love this victory in Jesus prayer, is it's about our position.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: It's not about I have been holy enough, therefore I have the right to pray and ask for these things.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: And the other thing I love about this prayer is after I pray it, I kind of feel this huh relief as a weight has been taken off of my shoulders, not only for my own protection, but this prayer like covers everything, all family, all possessions, all anyone in my personal or spiritual jurisdiction.
- 15:30SPEAKER_01: And it's like I don't even have to try to think how the enemy might be attacking anyone that I care for.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: I've just kind of set a boundary line around them through Jesus.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: And things that are supposed to be fired at them can't be fired anymore.
- 15:46SPEAKER_01: And I think as as as we love our family, we carry them a lot.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: And so in some ways, it's kind of like our for Jesus to do box that we talked about in the robot journey thing, that it's another way of saying, okay, Jesus, you've got them.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: The name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus has everything that I'm concerned about today.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: So it's it's just a really good way of positioning ourselves and aligning ourselves with where we need to be.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: So the last two pages uh in this section on warfare in the Praying for the Family booklet are the warfare prayer, which um we want to encourage us all to look at.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: It will allow you to walk through anything that that you need to lay down or pick up.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: So it has the language of I put off and I put on, which um I know there's the passage in Colossians, which I really like, that talks about putting off the old and putting on the new.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: And so you can walk through this warfare prayer and specifically pray through some of the things that you need to pray through from a warfare standpoint.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Lastly, we have the bondage breaking prayer, which allows you to come boldly before the throne of God and pray for yourself to release bondage where there are strongholds and specifically work through those things in your own life, as well as breaking those strongholds and bondage in the lives of your family members and loved ones.
- 17:11SPEAKER_00: And so we encourage you to do that for yourself first, for ourselves first.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: And then you can do that for other family members.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: So there's two um really great resources in this booklet, in addition to the ones that we have prayed today.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: For people who may be listening to this in other countries or don't have access to the booklet, but you were interested in this bondage-breaking prayer.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: I know it is in uh a devotional on our website at thefathersbusiness.com.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: If you'll click on devotionals and then look under the uh subcategory of spiritual warfare, this and a couple other prayers are on there as tools that we just want to give to the body of Christ.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: So there's many different ways to access this information.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: And as we're praying these things, you may have some questions coming up about spiritual warfare.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: And for in case you don't know, For the Family is a smaller excerpt from the bigger book, Prayer Portions.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: And in prayer portions, there's an entire section of information just about warfare.
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: So um, if you want to reach out to that resource and see if some of your questions are answered there, or you can even send questions to us either through Facebook or Instagram or on our website and contact us and send questions uh that you might have about praying spiritual warfare prayers for your family or for yourself, then we would love to be a part of just encouraging you.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: And uh, we really wanted to record these prayers for you today on this podcast because um sometimes you just need to hear the prayer in someone else's voice.
- 18:39SPEAKER_01: So we hope that's been encouraging to you.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and we also in season one of the podcast did an entire episode on spiritual warfare, yeah.
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Um, covering multiple aspects of it.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: And so if you want to go back and listen to that, it's from the November 7th episode, it's season one, episode four, just entitled Spiritual Warfare.
- 18:59SPEAKER_00: So you can go back and listen to that as well.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and uh our my mom, Sylvia, joins us on that one and kind of gives us a bit of her perspective on that.
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: So that's a great one to go listen to.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: We want to thank you for being a part of this podcast uh today, and we hope that this will give you the tools that are needed uh to know that you're in a war and that there are ways that you can dress yourself for battle, and that's the great news is that the victory has already been bought for us through Jesus.
- 19:27SPEAKER_01: I want to thank you for listening to the Father's Business Podcast.
