- 0:00Speaker 1: Now from the Star Rentals Sports desk, your ninety three
- 0:03Speaker 1: point three JJRFM sports headlines.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Good Morning, Happy Monday, Happy New week to you. Headlines
- 0:09Speaker 2: are brought to you by Frost Brewed Corps, Light Juice Chill.
- 0:12Speaker 2: The Seahawks have a sales agreement. It's an NFL record
- 0:15Speaker 2: nine point six billion dollars sale to the Kozlet family
- 0:19Speaker 2: from the Bay Area, only the second out of town
- 0:21Speaker 2: owners in the fifty two years. The Seahawks have existed
- 0:25Speaker 2: second richest sale of a North American sports franchise ever,
- 0:28Speaker 2: behind only the ten billion dollars sale of the Los
- 0:30Speaker 2: Angeles Lakers last year. More on this, including the new
- 0:34Speaker 2: controlling owner continuing the Allen ownership legacy. It's not who
- 0:39Speaker 2: you're hearing all about, by the way, we'll talk about that.
- 0:42Speaker 2: The Mariners ended a first half of pre All Star
- 0:45Speaker 2: Break by finally winning hey seven to two at Tampa Bay. Unfortunately,
- 0:50Speaker 2: was the only win of a six game road trip
- 0:52Speaker 2: through Miami. In Saint Petersburg, Florida, three for four day
- 0:55Speaker 2: for JP Crawford with three RBIs Randy Rosreni you saw
- 0:59Speaker 2: him do what he did Friday. We'll talk about that.
- 1:01Speaker 2: He also did this yesterday. Rose Rata to right center field.
- 1:05Speaker 2: That's deep.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Mason goes back at the wall, gone, it's out of here.
- 1:11Speaker 2: A rose Arta with a three run shot and it's
- 1:15Speaker 2: seven nothing Seattle. That was his forty fifth home run
- 1:19Speaker 2: in that stadium, Tropicana Field, forty four of them for
- 1:22Speaker 2: the Rays.
- 1:23Speaker 4: Now one with the is he hitting them into the tank?
- 1:26Speaker 2: No, this one didn't go to the tank on this one. Okay,
- 1:29Speaker 2: speaking of tank, we'll talk about him walking after a
- 1:32Speaker 2: foul ball Friday night. Luisa st I thought least, I
- 1:36Speaker 2: thought he was gonna walk out. Just string him up.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Next pitch throws a home run, pitch over the That
- 1:43Speaker 2: was bad. West and Wilson also homered yesterday. But Emerson
- 1:47Speaker 2: Hancock did this, and everybody else in the American NA
- 1:50Speaker 2: for that matter. Top of the order is really good.
- 1:52Speaker 2: That's off of Hancock's pitching. Again, hits it up, fires
- 1:55Speaker 2: the first in time.
- 1:56Speaker 5: But Hancock is down.
- 1:57Speaker 3: When you worry about that hands, he says, I'm okay,
- 2:03Speaker 3: but that's Scarya handed.
- 2:06Speaker 2: Not wise. He was not okay. That's Rich Waltz. He
- 2:09Speaker 2: was Ryan Roland Smith around the Mariners TV. Call our
- 2:12Speaker 2: friend Rich Waltz from wayback from Mariners days. On the
- 2:15Speaker 2: Mariners TV call this weekend in Tampa, he was not okay.
- 2:18Speaker 2: He ended up leaving Emerson Hancock did after one and
- 2:20Speaker 2: two thirds innings. He had X rays on that pitching hand.
- 2:23Speaker 2: That palm and his middle finger were negative. Good thing
- 2:26Speaker 2: for him and the team. The All Star Break starts
- 2:28Speaker 2: today or started last night. Mariners are to a game
- 2:32Speaker 2: under five hundred feels like more, one and a half
- 2:34Speaker 2: games behind Texas for first place in the Al West.
- 2:37Speaker 2: The All Star Game is tomorrow night. Mariners had their
- 2:39Speaker 2: Major League drafts, so did everybody else in baseball over
- 2:42Speaker 2: the weekend. First round pick a hitter, a third baseman
- 2:45Speaker 2: Ace Race from Mississippi State. Second round LSU slugging outfitter
- 2:49Speaker 2: Jake Brown. Almost all twenty of the Mariners picks were
- 2:51Speaker 2: college players. The Storm led early at Washington yesterday, They
- 2:55Speaker 2: got outscored twenty eleven in the fourth quarter and lost
- 2:57Speaker 2: for a nineteenth time. In twenty five w U NBA
- 3:00Speaker 2: Games World Cup Quarterfinals. Spain beat Belgium Friday in Los Angeles.
- 3:04Speaker 2: We're gonna talk to mas Vita Morrero of Cascadia Sports
- 3:07Speaker 2: Net and Fox thirteen Seattle he was at that match
- 3:09Speaker 2: in Inglewood on Friday, We'll talked about Spain with him
- 3:12Speaker 2: at eleven o'clock. Spain's gonna play France and the semifinals
- 3:15Speaker 2: tomorrow afternoon. France beat Morocco. England beat Norway because of
- 3:18Speaker 2: two more goals from Jude a Jude Bellingham. Three Lions
- 3:21Speaker 2: play Argentina in the semifinals Wednesday. Argentina beats Switzerland and
- 3:25Speaker 2: Kansas City Saturday. And a bit more controversy, a Swiss
- 3:27Speaker 2: player getting sent off in a Tide match in the
- 3:29Speaker 2: second half because he faked and dive and that was ridiculous.
- 3:33Speaker 2: The whole thing was ridiculous. Speaking of ridiculous, President Viva
- 3:37Speaker 2: Gianni Infantino floating the possibility in the next World Cup
- 3:40Speaker 2: in twenty thirty having sixty four teams. Jesssemen as the
- 3:44Speaker 2: forty eight on enough.
- 3:45Speaker 6: I just feel like they're taking a nod from everyone
- 3:48Speaker 6: else talking about it.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Greed.
- 3:51Speaker 6: Isn't everyone talking about this and the only thing.
- 3:54Speaker 4: That it comes down to is money. Every single agreed.
- 3:58Speaker 2: No one's talking about expanding sixty four teams except Infantino.
- 4:01Speaker 2: The University of Michigan is having a border regions meeting
- 4:03Speaker 2: Thursday to discuss the future of athletic director Ward Manual
- 4:07Speaker 2: and the results of an external investigation on how the
- 4:10Speaker 2: athletic department handled allegations against football coach Sharon Moore's alleged
- 4:14Speaker 2: affair with a football staff member. More trouble in ann Arbor.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Now I'm with the Monday Show Jess when McIntyre Greg
- 4:21Speaker 2: Bell with you as we are every weekday, ten am
- 4:22Speaker 2: the noon on ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back, ma'am.
- 4:27Speaker 4: Yes, I didn't even miss a day of work, so to.
- 4:31Speaker 2: New York City, in Long Island and back in the weekend.
- 4:34Speaker 2: Hats off to you. Hat's off to all of you
- 4:36Speaker 2: out there. Hopefully you had a great weekend. Went still
- 4:39Speaker 2: good on a Monday. It's beautiful sunny day here in
- 4:42Speaker 2: the Pacific Northwest. Hopefully it's it is Chamber commerce day.
- 4:46Speaker 2: Hopefully it's great wherever you are listening on the iHeartRadio
- 4:48Speaker 2: app or on nine through three kjar dot com. I
- 4:50Speaker 2: just noticed last night when I was looking for some
- 4:52Speaker 2: clip we did last week. The microphone, the red microphone
- 4:56Speaker 2: talkback button is on the website too. It's not just
- 4:59Speaker 2: on the app, but if you do.
- 5:01Speaker 4: It's how you YouTube punners.
- 5:03Speaker 2: Come on in, Come on in. It's on the Just
- 5:06Speaker 2: go to ninety three KGr dot com and there's a
- 5:08Speaker 2: red microphone at the top center right and you can
- 5:11Speaker 2: just click on it there and leave Jess in a
- 5:13Speaker 2: thirty second voicemail message because she loves playing them back
- 5:16Speaker 2: at eleven thirty. Really do Today, we have a subject
- 5:19Speaker 2: I think some of you may want to call in
- 5:20Speaker 2: and talk about. The Seattle Seahawks are no longer owned
- 5:24Speaker 2: by or about to no longer be owned by the
- 5:26Speaker 2: Allen family. We've been spoiled here for thirty years of
- 5:31Speaker 2: ever since Paul Allen bought it from Ken Bearing, the
- 5:34Speaker 2: team keeping it in Seattle after Ken Barring. I was
- 5:38Speaker 2: part of it. I covered Ken Barring moving the office
- 5:40Speaker 2: furniture and some of the bones of the team headquarters
- 5:44Speaker 2: out of Kirkland to southern California, the moving truck.
- 5:48Speaker 4: Are a grassroots reporter.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I was here for that, yes, And it was because
- 5:54Speaker 2: Ken Barring at the time nineteen ninety six said that
- 5:56Speaker 2: the Kingdom was unsuitable and that was not earthquake safe.
- 6:01Speaker 2: And everyone's like, wow, that's just the reason to move
- 6:04Speaker 2: the team. And then sure enough, there was an earthquake here,
- 6:06Speaker 2: then a squally quake. I was in the stadium for it,
- 6:10Speaker 2: pregame of a Mariners Indians game underneath the press box
- 6:14Speaker 2: and watched the press box sway above me. And because
- 6:17Speaker 2: of all the rhetoric that Ken Barring had had during
- 6:19Speaker 2: the time, everyone, I mean everyone on the field in
- 6:23Speaker 2: the stands freaked out and ran out of the building
- 6:25Speaker 2: when the earthquake happened. Of all the places to be
- 6:28Speaker 2: in an earthquake, that was centered through Planeter Square, the
- 6:31Speaker 2: Kingdome with a concrete roof. And then then I was
- 6:36Speaker 2: about to say, the concrete ceiling tiles fell from the
- 6:39Speaker 2: concrete roof onto the field later, not when players are
- 6:42Speaker 2: on it, not during the game. And then Ken Barring said, aha, see,
- 6:48Speaker 2: and that was why he wanted to, he said, moved
- 6:50Speaker 2: the team to southern California. And that was the impetus
- 6:53Speaker 2: for Paul Allen buying the team in nineteen ninety seven.
- 6:56Speaker 2: A year later, that in turn, was the impetus for
- 6:59Speaker 2: the becoming the Seahawks that we all know today. Super
- 7:02Speaker 2: Bowl champions twice three four Super Bowl Championships appearances, the
- 7:07Speaker 2: first four of the entire franchise's existence under Paul Allen.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Paul Allen going and fetching in twenty ten Pete Carroll
- 7:16Speaker 2: from USC bringing him to Seattle, reclaiming his NFL career
- 7:21Speaker 2: and making it the best sustaining the excellence of stacks
- 7:23Speaker 2: I've ever had.
- 7:23Speaker 4: And he fetched Todd Lai Wiki. Let's not forget that
- 7:26Speaker 4: Lai Wiki was dispatched to.
- 7:29Speaker 2: La to go get exactly.
- 7:31Speaker 4: Also a wonderful hire that Paul Allen there was.
- 7:34Speaker 2: Yes, he was not in the Seahawks chain until Paul
- 7:37Speaker 2: Allen brought him in. All of that happened after the
- 7:40Speaker 2: Nasqually earthquake and Ken Berring's saying the Seahawks were not
- 7:43Speaker 2: fit for here. That gets us to today. Paul Allen
- 7:47Speaker 2: passes away. His will states that he must sell all
- 7:50Speaker 2: of his assets, not just the sports teams, the Blazers
- 7:53Speaker 2: in the NBA in Portland and the Seattle Seahawks, but everything,
- 7:56Speaker 2: the music collection, there was a museum and the Mohawk
- 8:00Speaker 2: Mopot Museum in Seattle, center space exploration, the deep sea
- 8:04Speaker 2: at all of it, and the Seahawks are part of that.
- 8:06Speaker 2: And it took years from his death in twenty eighteen
- 8:09Speaker 2: till now twenty twenty six for the lawyers in the
- 8:11Speaker 2: estate to get around to selling the sports franchises. He
- 8:14Speaker 2: last spring sold the Blazers for four million billions, gives
- 8:17Speaker 2: him with the b and now for nine point six
- 8:20Speaker 2: billion dollars. The Seahawks have a sales agreement with Venode Koshla,
- 8:27Speaker 2: Nero Koshla, his wife, and Neil Koshla, his mid thirties son.
- 8:32Speaker 2: Who are they, Well, they're from the Bay area, and
- 8:34Speaker 2: so already there's red alarms from fans saying, wait a minute,
- 8:37Speaker 2: this is only the second time. Ken Barring is the
- 8:39Speaker 2: only other out of town owner the Seahawks I've ever
- 8:41Speaker 2: had in their fifty two years of existence, and that
- 8:44Speaker 2: is true. We'll talk about this, but I thought it
- 8:48Speaker 2: was interesting how Venode Kochla couched his first public comments
- 8:53Speaker 2: after the sale agreement came. We'll talk about that, But
- 8:55Speaker 2: he had that was an intent behind how he said
- 8:58Speaker 2: what he said, and we will talk about that for sure.
- 9:01Speaker 2: We'll also talk about the Mariners, Randy Rose Arena, and
- 9:04Speaker 2: that pop fly he walked to that landed near him
- 9:06Speaker 2: Friday night in Tampa Bay and I thought Louis Castillo
- 9:09Speaker 2: was going to go just go get him right in
- 9:11Speaker 2: the middle of he was mad, he was Ryan Divish
- 9:14Speaker 2: wrote a really good story. The beat writer for the
- 9:17Speaker 2: Seattle Times. He does, but he was particularly good there
- 9:20Speaker 2: writing about that because that was the story of the
- 9:22Speaker 2: game and largely the season, the frustrations that this team has,
- 9:26Speaker 2: the underachieving, all of it encapsulated in that one play
- 9:29Speaker 2: that didn't even show up in the box score. But
- 9:31Speaker 2: what did show up on the box score is the
- 9:32Speaker 2: next pitch Castillo threw was a home run, and he
- 9:36Speaker 2: looked and turned and looked and wrote, Randy Rose Arena,
- 9:38Speaker 2: and I'd noticed it. And to Ryan's credit, and he's
- 9:41Speaker 2: a brilliant, brilliant pre writer and knows the game. He
- 9:45Speaker 2: wrote about that that scene, the reactions from everybody afterwards,
- 9:49Speaker 2: including both players and Dan Wilson in the Seattle Times,
- 9:54Speaker 2: Friday Night online and Saturday Morning and as pren edition.
- 9:57Speaker 2: So don't need to say good job, Ryan. He knows
- 10:01Speaker 2: what he's doing. But that was really good baseball inside
- 10:04Speaker 2: ball beat writing because that told way more of the
- 10:06Speaker 2: story than the actual loss did. Four on the coming
- 10:10Speaker 2: dodge text line. That's one thing I'd ask you. Your
- 10:13Speaker 2: reaction to that play in particular to the season.
- 10:15Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll get to those a little later.
- 10:17Speaker 6: And I think we need to clarify one of the
- 10:20Speaker 6: points you were making earlier when it came to Ken
- 10:22Speaker 6: Barry that you were saying that when the earthquake happened.
- 10:26Speaker 6: He said, see, I told you, but everyone's trying to
- 10:30Speaker 6: clarify that it happened prior to it, prior to what
- 10:34Speaker 6: prior to two thousand. The earthquake happened in two thousand
- 10:39Speaker 6: and one. But when he said the team, he said,
- 10:41Speaker 6: it's just like we were going back and forth in
- 10:44Speaker 6: time a little bit, and stop apologizing.
- 10:47Speaker 2: He did. He said that if this place will never
- 10:49Speaker 2: survive an earthquake, and then years later, sure enough, I
- 10:51Speaker 2: was in the stadium. Thank you.
- 10:53Speaker 6: Yes, I wanted because multiple texts came in and I
- 10:56Speaker 6: wanted to clarify your timeline because you were correct, but.
- 11:00Speaker 2: I'd misstated and it wasn't clear. But yes, eventually, what
- 11:05Speaker 2: Ken Barring had always said, this place want was stand
- 11:08Speaker 2: on earthquake. They have an earthquake. The ceiling titles felt, yes.
- 11:11Speaker 6: Thank you, Yes, you mentioned the text line, so I
- 11:13Speaker 6: wanted to get that out of the way.
- 11:15Speaker 2: Thank you. He gets to text link there is nothing
- 11:17Speaker 2: more vibrant on the Takomaajs text line than Arata. They
- 11:21Speaker 2: love it and I'm glad to be held accountable. And yes,
- 11:24Speaker 2: thank you for well there are.
- 11:25Speaker 4: Some clarification segments.
- 11:27Speaker 2: No thank you, I appreciate that, but suffice to say
- 11:31Speaker 2: that my point of the whole thing was Paul Allen
- 11:34Speaker 2: saved the Seahawks, obviously and ushered in the most successful,
- 11:38Speaker 2: sustained success they've ever had, the only Super Bowl championships
- 11:41Speaker 2: they've ever had, and now the changing of the guard too,
- 11:45Speaker 2: because he said they had to after his death, selling
- 11:49Speaker 2: the team to the Koslo family. We'll talk about during
- 11:52Speaker 2: the show. Who the primary owner. The NFL has defined
- 11:55Speaker 2: as the primary owner. What does that mean. That means
- 11:58Speaker 2: someone who has at least a thirty stake in the team,
- 12:01Speaker 2: a controlling interest in the team. They actually preferred to
- 12:04Speaker 2: be more like fifty percent of the nine point six
- 12:07Speaker 2: billion dollar sale. It's not Venode Kochla. In fact, it's
- 12:11Speaker 2: his wife, Niu Kochla, who's also seventy one years old.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Their high school sweethearts from the time when they were
- 12:17Speaker 2: growing up together in India. They moved to the United States,
- 12:22Speaker 2: and that's where they made their fortune, that's where they
- 12:24Speaker 2: had their child, Neil, and that's where Niu Kochla found
- 12:28Speaker 2: her calling and became passionate in education, in childhood education.
- 12:35Speaker 2: She is the controlling owner of the Seattle Seahawks. She
- 12:39Speaker 2: in many ways is continuing the legacy of the Paul
- 12:43Speaker 2: Allen and the Paul g Allen Trust, because, as we know,
- 12:46Speaker 2: Jody Allen has been for the last eight years, the chair,
- 12:49Speaker 2: the facto owner of the Seahawks, the controlling chair of
- 12:53Speaker 2: the estate and thus of the Seahawks. And now we
- 12:57Speaker 2: have another in the same vein of Samantha Holloway and
- 13:00Speaker 2: one Real Sports and Entertainment bringing on Melinda Gates, French
- 13:03Speaker 2: Gates as an investor to own the Kraken, to own
- 13:06Speaker 2: the Climate Pledgerina, and to own the arena that the
- 13:10Speaker 2: NBA team that everyone presumes is coming to Seattle will
- 13:13Speaker 2: play in. They're gonna make a bit, they've already said.
- 13:15Speaker 2: One Real Sports and Entertainment, Samantha Halloway and Melinda Gates
- 13:19Speaker 2: will make a bid for those Sonics. And in that vein,
- 13:22Speaker 2: and in Jody Allen's vein, we now have another woman
- 13:25Speaker 2: as a primary owner of a sports franchise in Seattle.
- 13:29Speaker 2: That's one legacy they're continuing by conspicuously the NBA and
- 13:35Speaker 2: the NFL. Excuse me noting that she Nehru not her husband,
- 13:41Speaker 2: will be the controlling owner of the franchise.
- 13:43Speaker 4: Well, what I really like is that they build their
- 13:45Speaker 4: lives together.
- 13:46Speaker 2: They did, and so this is not sweethearts. They met
- 13:49Speaker 2: at sixteen.
- 13:50Speaker 6: Every power woman that we see here in Seattle, and
- 13:54Speaker 6: this also goes to several other big industries helped build
- 14:00Speaker 6: the powerhouse that those became. You can go to several
- 14:04Speaker 6: of them and see it and that this is not
- 14:06Speaker 6: just a placeholder, a tax haven of a woman that
- 14:09Speaker 6: is going into this position. It is someone who is
- 14:12Speaker 6: very savvy at this business and that was the right move.
- 14:16Speaker 2: What is remains unknown, though Jessman, is they've never been
- 14:19Speaker 2: the primary owners of a sports franchise.
- 14:21Speaker 6: They've invested three percent of the San Francisco forty nine ers.
- 14:26Speaker 6: Doesn't dipping your toe into the water tell you that
- 14:29Speaker 6: that's the path they want to go?
- 14:31Speaker 2: Well, yes, and practically what it did is set them
- 14:34Speaker 2: up to buy the Seahawks because the other NFL owners
- 14:38Speaker 2: had to approve that purchased any purchase of any share
- 14:41Speaker 2: of any size in an NFL franchise has to be
- 14:44Speaker 2: approved by the other thirty one owners. So when they
- 14:47Speaker 2: went through this in the spring of twenty twenty five
- 14:50Speaker 2: and bought three percent of the forty nine ers, the
- 14:55Speaker 2: NFL Roger Goodell and the other thirty one owners got
- 14:58Speaker 2: to know them, had to had to at them and
- 15:00Speaker 2: approve them. And in likewise, the coach has got to
- 15:03Speaker 2: know the NFL sales process in the approval process, and
- 15:06Speaker 2: they are familiar and became familiar with how all of
- 15:09Speaker 2: that worked. Not as a majority investor and not as
- 15:12Speaker 2: the controlling owners, of course, but at least this isn't
- 15:15Speaker 2: just off the street, out of the blue of the
- 15:17Speaker 2: NFL has no relationship with And we talked about how
- 15:20Speaker 2: they are really closely guarded on who there is in
- 15:23Speaker 2: their good old boys and in this case good old
- 15:25Speaker 2: Girls network of who buys teams. So it was a
- 15:28Speaker 2: jump start that absolutely helped them secure this bid and
- 15:33Speaker 2: presumed approval. The NFL will approve this. They have what's next.
- 15:37Speaker 2: They have a August twenty sixth date that they have
- 15:40Speaker 2: told teams that they will set aside for a special vote.
- 15:43Speaker 2: The league would not have gone this far to allow
- 15:45Speaker 2: the announcement and the Seahawks to approve this sale if
- 15:47Speaker 2: they weren't going to approve it on August twenty sixth,
- 15:51Speaker 2: So that'll be the formality. Twenty four or thirty two
- 15:53Speaker 2: votes have to be yes. It's not just a slam
- 15:55Speaker 2: dunk rubber stamp because you've got an estates in the
- 15:58Speaker 2: States liquidating its assets, an owner who's no longer living.
- 16:02Speaker 2: It's not a slam dunk easy. And I'm talking in
- 16:05Speaker 2: the News Tribune with legal experts about this, HOLLI. They
- 16:08Speaker 2: will take a little bit of time.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Sure, but like you said last week, there's no rush.
- 16:13Speaker 4: No there's not on paper.
- 16:14Speaker 2: No, there's not. But the NFL obviously will now wants
- 16:17Speaker 2: this done before the season begins September ninth, which is
- 16:20Speaker 2: why the timeline of August twenty sixth. It would allow
- 16:23Speaker 2: the team to have all of this done and be
- 16:25Speaker 2: able to announce it and have a big unveiling with
- 16:28Speaker 2: the Koshlas at Lumenfield on the NFL kickoff night on
- 16:32Speaker 2: September night. That's the presumption anyway, four nine four y
- 16:35Speaker 2: five one on the the komodage text line, your feelings
- 16:38Speaker 2: about this? I heard it from a lot of people
- 16:40Speaker 2: on Saturday when I wrote the story for the News
- 16:42Speaker 2: Tribune when this news broke Saturday afternoon. About your concerns
- 16:46Speaker 2: about one this being an out of town owner, that's
- 16:49Speaker 2: just a fact it is. But two forty nine ers investors,
- 16:54Speaker 2: that's not as big a deal. They have to divest
- 16:56Speaker 2: from that, and it's not a It's not like they're
- 17:00Speaker 2: going to be bringing forty nine ers bumper stickers and
- 17:02Speaker 2: pennants to Seattle Seahawks games. It's true that they have played.
- 17:05Speaker 2: They have been for twenty five years season ticket holders.
- 17:09Speaker 2: Vanod Koschla has talked about being a season ticket holder
- 17:12Speaker 2: for the forty nine ers with his young son Neil,
- 17:14Speaker 2: when he was as young as five years old. He's
- 17:17Speaker 2: now in his mid thirties. So yes, how they who
- 17:21Speaker 2: are these people? How they've made their fortune?
- 17:23Speaker 7: Well?
- 17:23Speaker 2: Ai vanod Koschlb was in one of the Four Bears
- 17:27Speaker 2: and first Innovators and entrepreneurs and artificial Intelligence about ten
- 17:32Speaker 2: years ago. His wife owns c K twelve, which is
- 17:38Speaker 2: a not for profit education service. What does it do?
- 17:43Speaker 2: It uses AI to provide textbooks on a variety of
- 17:47Speaker 2: subjects from kindergarten through twelfth Code and in fact, college
- 17:51Speaker 2: and adult education including English is the second language. I
- 17:54Speaker 2: wrote a whole story about her this morning in the
- 17:56Speaker 2: News Tribune because she's now the controlling owner. She's the
- 18:00Speaker 2: known here. Everyone knows a little bit about her husband.
- 18:03Speaker 2: He's seventy one and he has his own company. He
- 18:07Speaker 2: has invested heavily in artificial intelligence. Yes, all that's true,
- 18:11Speaker 2: but his wife is the one that the NFL is
- 18:13Speaker 2: saying will be the controlling owner. So near Kozla is
- 18:17Speaker 2: in education, and she says she's had a calling ever
- 18:20Speaker 2: since she was growing up in London, born in India
- 18:23Speaker 2: about how important education is for the formation of somebody's life.
- 18:27Speaker 2: And she wants education and free access for all. She
- 18:30Speaker 2: has a not for profit to do it. So they
- 18:33Speaker 2: are in the philanthropic interest as well. And that is
- 18:35Speaker 2: yet another carryover of the Paul Allen and Jody Allen
- 18:39Speaker 2: legacy here. They are billionaires, yes, but they are trying
- 18:44Speaker 2: to get free access for of education and textbooks. In
- 18:47Speaker 2: the case of Neruzla, free access and education for all
- 18:51Speaker 2: textbooks that you go to the K twelve Foundation website.
- 18:55Speaker 2: There's an amazing amount of free textbook information available online.
- 19:00Speaker 2: To anyone in German and Chinese and Spanish and Polish
- 19:04Speaker 2: and Greek and Indian, and I mean it's there's an array.
- 19:10Speaker 2: They said, there's ninety different languages. Their equipment, their textbooks
- 19:13Speaker 2: have been translated into they claim to have I should
- 19:17Speaker 2: say they said claims kind of a pejorative word. They
- 19:20Speaker 2: say that they have taught three hundred and seventeen million
- 19:25Speaker 2: people in the last twenty years since she founded this company.
- 19:29Speaker 2: They're all Stanford graduates, including the Sun. The Sun is
- 19:32Speaker 2: an AI and medical analysis and assessments with artificial intelligence
- 19:37Speaker 2: fueling that. So that is where they made their fortune.
- 19:42Speaker 2: But they have a philanthropic bent as well, and that
- 19:45Speaker 2: is continuing the Paul Allenson legacy as well. And I'm
- 19:48Speaker 2: no doubt if you asked Jody Allen and Burke Cole,
- 19:51Speaker 2: that probably was a contributing factor to accepting the bid.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Not only was it the highest price obviously with multiple bidders,
- 19:58Speaker 2: but the philanthropic games of Nero in particular. And I
- 20:01Speaker 2: thought it was very conspicuous that the NFL made sure
- 20:03Speaker 2: to say that she not her husband, will be the
- 20:06Speaker 2: controlling owner of the franchise.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 20:08Speaker 6: Well, I think there's also a negative connotation when it
- 20:10Speaker 6: comes to AI in general these days. But everything that
- 20:13Speaker 6: you just said is them doing it for the greater costs.
- 20:17Speaker 6: You talk about medical education, and those are the first
- 20:20Speaker 6: two things that stood out to me. Is that as
- 20:23Speaker 6: much as we might hesitate because we feel like it'll
- 20:26Speaker 6: take over all of our jobs, all of everything, it
- 20:31Speaker 6: sounds like the intention of starting things and continuing to
- 20:35Speaker 6: invest in things was for a greater good. And so
- 20:40Speaker 6: if you pair that with the intentions that Paul Allen
- 20:43Speaker 6: had always set out, I mean Microsoft obviously that has
- 20:47Speaker 6: taken over a lot of things too, but not in
- 20:50Speaker 6: an AI form. I think that that says a lot
- 20:53Speaker 6: about the way that this team can move forward under
- 20:58Speaker 6: ownership that has a same causes and.
- 21:01Speaker 2: Beliefs we will see. We don't know, No, we do not.
- 21:04Speaker 2: We honestly don't know.
- 21:06Speaker 4: But that is what we know right now, right.
- 21:08Speaker 2: And that is all we know. So what don't we know?
- 21:11Speaker 2: We'll talk about that next because there is a lot
- 21:13Speaker 2: I know. One thing they should absolutely not do, we'll
- 21:16Speaker 2: talk about that next. A ninety three point three kJ R.
- 21:18Speaker 7: FM, Welcome back, Greig.
- 21:44Speaker 2: Bell, desmin Akatara, would you ten amternoon every weekday on
- 21:47Speaker 2: ninety three point three kJ R M f M and
- 21:50Speaker 2: a very vibrant Tacoma Dodge text sign four nine four
- 21:53Speaker 2: or five one about this Seahawks sale, and we talked
- 21:55Speaker 2: about what we know. Yes, Venode Coach is the co
- 22:01Speaker 2: founder of Sun Microsystems. He also was in artificial intelligence
- 22:06Speaker 2: since then and was one of the foremost entrepreneurs in
- 22:10Speaker 2: that and that's what his wife and son have also
- 22:12Speaker 2: championed to the education in medical fields. We know that
- 22:16Speaker 2: we know that they have three point one percent interest
- 22:19Speaker 2: in the San Francisco forty nine ers. We know that
- 22:21Speaker 2: it's now obvious that they bought that small, small share
- 22:26Speaker 2: to get familiar with the process so they can buy
- 22:28Speaker 2: a larger share and be in position to buy an
- 22:30Speaker 2: NFL franchise. And here come the Super Bowl champion Seahawks
- 22:33Speaker 2: up for sale, and they buy them for a greed
- 22:35Speaker 2: price of nine point six billion dollars. We know that
- 22:38Speaker 2: it's the largest price ever, beating the six point zero
- 22:40Speaker 2: five billion of the Washington Commanders a few years ago.
- 22:43Speaker 2: We know that what we don't know is how they're
- 22:46Speaker 2: going to operate. Are they going to be meddling owners?
- 22:50Speaker 2: And I know that has to be the fears of
- 22:52Speaker 2: everybody here in Seattle. As I mentioned, we have been
- 22:54Speaker 2: spoiled for the last thirty years of having the same
- 22:57Speaker 2: family Seattle based as the owners of our NFL team,
- 23:02Speaker 2: and there were a lot of knowans from that, and
- 23:06Speaker 2: now we have a bunch of unknowns. Billionaires don't become
- 23:11Speaker 2: billionaires by themselves. Of course, they have people they trust
- 23:13Speaker 2: who have worked with them in the variety of ventures
- 23:16Speaker 2: that entrepreneurs and people who do venture capitalists work have
- 23:21Speaker 2: a bunch of people who have worked across many spectrums
- 23:24Speaker 2: of those companies. It probably be naive to think that
- 23:27Speaker 2: some of those people aren't coming to help them run
- 23:29Speaker 2: the Seahawks the business side of it.
- 23:31Speaker 6: The first and kind of people if they had been
- 23:35Speaker 6: there for the decade that they built the I mean,
- 23:38Speaker 6: they're billionaires. We can call it an empire that I
- 23:41Speaker 6: would think it was those But at least they're trusted.
- 23:44Speaker 4: And you know, I.
- 23:47Speaker 6: Except all criticism because Greg, as you know me, I
- 23:50Speaker 6: am a sunshine Susie. I always look at the positives
- 23:53Speaker 6: before I look at the negatives. But I do like
- 23:57Speaker 6: that question about how they will manage.
- 24:00Speaker 2: We don't know because they've never managed the team by
- 24:03Speaker 2: themselves as a primary owners before Venode. Cochla does have
- 24:09Speaker 2: experience running his own company and Cosladventures, and as I mentioned,
- 24:14Speaker 2: the co founder of Sun Microsystems, but not a professional
- 24:17Speaker 2: sports franchise. So how much of the business side will
- 24:21Speaker 2: he keep President Chuck Arnold from Tacoma, The marketing side,
- 24:25Speaker 2: the sales side, the corporate communications, the community relations will see.
- 24:32Speaker 2: What will they do with Lumenfield. That's another unknown. There
- 24:37Speaker 2: are no indications that they want a new stadium, and
- 24:39Speaker 2: there are absolutely zero indications from the league or anybody
- 24:42Speaker 2: else that they don't want the team in Seattle. In fact,
- 24:44Speaker 2: the team I was told of the Super Bowl by
- 24:47Speaker 2: many people in the New York headquarters of the NFL.
- 24:50Speaker 2: The NFL wants the Seahawks to remain and for as
- 24:54Speaker 2: long as life can exist and as long as Mountaineer
- 24:56Speaker 2: is standing, want them to remain the lone Pacific Northwest
- 25:00Speaker 2: anchor for the NFL. Here way out in the upper
- 25:03Speaker 2: left corner. So that aside, I think we can put
- 25:07Speaker 2: those fears aside. We don't know how they're going to
- 25:10Speaker 2: daily operate the business side. We don't know how they're
- 25:13Speaker 2: going to operate the football side, but jessam and it
- 25:17Speaker 2: would be really really not smart, to the point of dumb,
- 25:23Speaker 2: of people that are billionaires to have been successful as
- 25:26Speaker 2: they are to come in and change something that is
- 25:28Speaker 2: wildly successful as the football operations of the Seahawks. Sixteen
- 25:32Speaker 2: years of John Schneider, the fourth longest, third longest if
- 25:36Speaker 2: you don't call Jerry Jones, the owner of the Cowboys,
- 25:38Speaker 2: also the GM, the fourth longest tenured general manager in
- 25:41Speaker 2: the NFL, and the most successful run of Seahawks football ever.
- 25:45Speaker 4: Well, this is a very simple phrase, don't mess with success, I.
- 25:49Speaker 2: Wrote in the news tribute story this morning. If it
- 25:51Speaker 2: ain't broke, don't fix it.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Yes, it's another simple phrase.
- 25:55Speaker 2: The football side is thriving, and.
- 25:58Speaker 4: Wouldn't you just do this.
- 26:01Speaker 6: I'm doing this with my hands, but just pull back
- 26:03Speaker 6: thirty thousand foot for you. I would come in with
- 26:06Speaker 6: the attitude of how can we help you?
- 26:08Speaker 2: Right? Yes, Because the other thing that is new and
- 26:11Speaker 2: different that we don't know is this is the first
- 26:13Speaker 2: time a Super Bowl champion has ever been sold the
- 26:16Speaker 2: months after they won the championship.
- 26:17Speaker 6: It's a completely different situation. And you know, obviously we
- 26:22Speaker 6: all know the details of that.
- 26:24Speaker 4: So You're right, it's a new era.
- 26:26Speaker 2: Think Tepper buying the Panthers and has them buying the Browns.
- 26:30Speaker 2: I mean, there are usually franchises who are in some
- 26:33Speaker 2: sort of disarray or transition that gets sold.
- 26:35Speaker 4: Or someone's a jerk, a big, nasty jerk.
- 26:39Speaker 2: We have no indication of that either.
- 26:41Speaker 4: No, I'm saying not here.
- 26:42Speaker 2: No, I'm just saying that, yes elsewhere. Right, this is
- 26:46Speaker 2: so different than any of that because of the timing.
- 26:49Speaker 2: This is, as I said, the estate the lawyers got
- 26:52Speaker 2: around to selling the franchise of sports franchises these times.
- 26:56Speaker 2: It wasn't Paul Allen's wished that we sell the Seahawks
- 26:59Speaker 2: as the state. We sell the Seahawks after they win
- 27:01Speaker 2: the Super Bowl. This was the timing of it. It
- 27:04Speaker 2: was put up for sale as they were going on,
- 27:06Speaker 2: and here we are. Is very unusual for a team
- 27:10Speaker 2: this successful on the field to be sold to new owners.
- 27:14Speaker 2: So you're talking about selling at the height of their value.
- 27:17Speaker 2: And that's how nine point six billion dollars comes about.
- 27:19Speaker 6: And the owners clapped and clapped and then wipe their
- 27:22Speaker 6: happy tears with thousand dollars bills.
- 27:25Speaker 2: Right, Because as you're a desking the wrong guy.
- 27:30Speaker 6: I've never seen one, but they probably have them.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Yes, because now the franchise, the Seahawks sale is three
- 27:37Speaker 2: point five billion dollars more than the Washington Commanders. And
- 27:40Speaker 2: that's what should happen in a league that prints money
- 27:42Speaker 2: for revenue. Every year, franchise valuations go up all the
- 27:45Speaker 2: rising tide, and all the boats go up with it.
- 27:47Speaker 2: So now the next team that gets sold can rise
- 27:50Speaker 2: up in value as well. So the valuation this the
- 27:53Speaker 2: NFL is very happy with. But we don't know what
- 27:56Speaker 2: they're going to do with the football side. I cannot
- 27:58Speaker 2: imagine them reviewing before they decided to put in this bid,
- 28:03Speaker 2: reviewing the football operations say ah, we're going to do this, this, this,
- 28:06Speaker 2: and this. I can't even fathom they would do that.
- 28:11Speaker 6: They're just not going to It's just like we were
- 28:13Speaker 6: talking to talking about. Is that all I see it
- 28:17Speaker 6: happening is that they come in smart business owners and
- 28:22Speaker 6: sit back. The best program directors I've ever worked with
- 28:25Speaker 6: who came in new when I was in my job,
- 28:30Speaker 6: sat back and asked, Okay, how do you do things?
- 28:33Speaker 4: How can I help?
- 28:34Speaker 6: And that's what I think would happen with smart business owners,
- 28:41Speaker 6: and I would hope that that would happen. And I
- 28:45Speaker 6: believe you would agree with these people. They're seventy one both, right,
- 28:50Speaker 6: they're both seventy one years old, so they've had life experience,
- 28:54Speaker 6: life of business experience, life of personal experience, and I
- 28:58Speaker 6: could see them just taking a step back and coming
- 29:02Speaker 6: in how do we or maybe even this is the question,
- 29:05Speaker 6: how do we do that again? How do we do
- 29:09Speaker 6: last year again? Maybe they will take a page from
- 29:12Speaker 6: the Pete Carroll And I think Pete Carroll did a
- 29:15Speaker 6: lot of this, probably in conjunction with the front office,
- 29:19Speaker 6: but made it a whole fan friendly experience, because what
- 29:23Speaker 6: does a good business owner do? They want revenue? So
- 29:27Speaker 6: how do we welcome in the fans? How do you
- 29:29Speaker 6: make that a ticket that can't be denied? And so
- 29:33Speaker 6: maybe you need to look into how do we bring
- 29:36Speaker 6: the people back after a run like that.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Well, fortunately for the Seahawks, they're sold out with a
- 29:41Speaker 2: waiting list, so they will be people coming to the
- 29:44Speaker 2: games no matter what happens.
- 29:46Speaker 6: Right, but you can't predict us on game six here
- 29:50Speaker 6: who might be selling their tickets online if they're not. Yes,
- 29:54Speaker 6: there's always gonna be a waiting list after a super Bowl.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Well, there's always been a waiting list for the last
- 29:59Speaker 2: twenty years.
- 30:00Speaker 6: Well, season tickets, we know that, but people started selling
- 30:03Speaker 6: their tickets. So how do you make it even better
- 30:08Speaker 6: for that? Maybe they don't start out as hot, maybe
- 30:12Speaker 6: they aren't as hot a ticket at some point during
- 30:15Speaker 6: the season. Make the fan experience better. How could they
- 30:19Speaker 6: do that? That's the things Listen. I'm not going to
- 30:23Speaker 6: say not enough money for everything I do here. I'm
- 30:26Speaker 6: not saying I'm a fantastic business owner, but I am
- 30:29Speaker 6: in sports and I witness everything. When there is an
- 30:32Speaker 6: amazing thing going on in a stadium. It could be
- 30:35Speaker 6: a bobblehead, it could be a giveaway, it could be
- 30:37Speaker 6: a jersey, it could be anything. I would imagine that really,
- 30:42Speaker 6: really good business owners would look at it from all
- 30:46Speaker 6: angles and focus on the fan.
- 30:49Speaker 2: What they can do right away, and what they probably
- 30:51Speaker 2: will do with the stadium right away, is increase the
- 30:54Speaker 2: revenue potential. Because local revenue, they get to keep national
- 30:57Speaker 2: revenue and licensing and Metia rightes aired with all thirty
- 31:00Speaker 2: two teams. So Jerry Jones and Jerry's World in Arlington,
- 31:04Speaker 2: Texas as a prime example of this. You maximize all
- 31:07Speaker 2: the revenue you can out of the stadium. I could
- 31:10Speaker 2: see them adding more luxury seating. I could see them
- 31:12Speaker 2: adding more seating on the field level that has gone
- 31:14Speaker 2: in the last couple of years. And of course there's
- 31:16Speaker 2: this a luxury seating luxury suite right next to the
- 31:20Speaker 2: tunnel that leads from the Seahawks locker room onto the field.
- 31:23Speaker 2: I could see them. No one's told me this is
- 31:25Speaker 2: going to happen, but if you just look at the
- 31:26Speaker 2: footprint of Lumen Field, I could see them closing the
- 31:30Speaker 2: open sides of the Hawk's nest on the north Downtown
- 31:33Speaker 2: side and putting seats in there permanent seats, because they
- 31:37Speaker 2: could sell those as season tickets and that would increase
- 31:39Speaker 2: their revenue, and that would also push the capacity above
- 31:42Speaker 2: seventy thousand seats, which is a benchmark for a Super
- 31:47Speaker 2: Bowl hosting. I don't know that the Seahawks are going
- 31:50Speaker 2: to try to bid for a Super Bowl hosting if
- 31:52Speaker 2: they did expand the stadium. They've got weather issues and
- 31:55Speaker 2: hotel issues and the amount of hotel rooms I should
- 31:58Speaker 2: say in the city. But it's there as a possibility,
- 32:03Speaker 2: and any seat you add to that stadium, if you
- 32:06Speaker 2: have a sold out crowd every week and you have
- 32:08Speaker 2: a waiting list of Blue Pride people. Is going to
- 32:10Speaker 2: be revenue in your the owner's pockets because it's local
- 32:13Speaker 2: revenue you get to keep. So those are the things
- 32:15Speaker 2: I could see them happening with Loomenfield. I don't see
- 32:19Speaker 2: any need for a new stadium. It turns twenty four
- 32:21Speaker 2: this week.
- 32:22Speaker 6: I could see a refurbish at best. You want to
- 32:26Speaker 6: keep that sound, you don't want to mess with the structure.
- 32:31Speaker 4: Yeah, sure, maybe new seats or something.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Well, they put new seats in the north end zone
- 32:35Speaker 2: for the World Cup. So now the Hawks nests no
- 32:37Speaker 2: longer are the metal Kingdome seats, the remnants of the Kingdome.
- 32:41Speaker 2: They are chair back seats.
- 32:42Speaker 4: With the rip bleachers.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Yes, and now they I'm told from the text line
- 32:47Speaker 2: that they're charging six hundred dollars a seat more for
- 32:49Speaker 2: those seats in the Hawk's Nest because of that upgrade
- 32:51Speaker 2: for the World Cup. That's another those type of things
- 32:55Speaker 2: of modernizing and upgrading the stadium with luxury seating, perhaps
- 32:58Speaker 2: more seats, and all of it. None of that speaks
- 33:02Speaker 2: to the football side. Again, I wrote in the News
- 33:06Speaker 2: Tribune this morning one if you have out of town
- 33:08Speaker 2: owners and you want to put in stadium upgrades, you
- 33:12Speaker 2: are not familiar with the civic and political climate up
- 33:16Speaker 2: here and the money and the competing needs for public
- 33:20Speaker 2: money and trying to put you would probably need to
- 33:23Speaker 2: because of that, you may need to do your own
- 33:25Speaker 2: money privately fund all of any stadium upgrades. Then you
- 33:28Speaker 2: have the civic ownership of the stadium through the stadium
- 33:31Speaker 2: district and whatnot. All of that is a learning process
- 33:35Speaker 2: for the coastals because they've never done that from Bay Area.
- 33:38Speaker 2: So the football side of it, you would think Mike McDonald,
- 33:42Speaker 2: John Schneider, John Schneider just signing an extension twenty twenty five,
- 33:47Speaker 2: Mike McDonald, Mike McDonald's probably due for one here the
- 33:50Speaker 2: next couple of years. The way he's performed in his
- 33:51Speaker 2: first two seasons.
- 33:52Speaker 4: I mean, that's just going to happen.
- 33:54Speaker 2: You would think that could be one of the first
- 33:56Speaker 2: things the new owners do in the football sense.
- 33:58Speaker 6: But I got, how how much better could they ingratiate
- 34:02Speaker 6: themselves by just doing that? Trone's already locked up, you
- 34:07Speaker 6: know that, Just saying if you guys are listening.
- 34:10Speaker 2: They probably want to meet him first. But yes, I
- 34:14Speaker 2: wouldn't think they have. I don't think they have.
- 34:17Speaker 6: I don't think they legally could before this all became official,
- 34:19Speaker 6: to be honest.
- 34:20Speaker 4: But maybe a phone call. Sure, they might have had
- 34:23Speaker 4: one of those.
- 34:24Speaker 2: The point is, and I wrote it in the News
- 34:26Speaker 2: Tribune the stories at the Neewstribune dot com. Right now,
- 34:28Speaker 2: the point I want to leave you with is this
- 34:30Speaker 2: one Neru clothes Lip is the primary owner, not her
- 34:35Speaker 2: husband Vanotte, who most people have seen as the frontman
- 34:38Speaker 2: on all this. He's the one who had the statements
- 34:40Speaker 2: when it was done. He was the one everyone was
- 34:42Speaker 2: looking up and investigating when the process and the bids
- 34:44Speaker 2: came out. But as his wife, also seventy one, who
- 34:48Speaker 2: is the controlling owner. And that is a continuation of
- 34:50Speaker 2: the legacy of Jody Allen, Samantha Halloway will in the
- 34:53Speaker 2: French gates sports ownerships in this city, the philanthropic bent
- 34:56Speaker 2: of her, and the education and textbooks free for all.
- 35:00Speaker 2: How that is also a continuation of the Paul Allen legacy.
- 35:03Speaker 2: And also the fact that both of these new owners
- 35:05Speaker 2: are seventy one years old. They have a mid thirty son,
- 35:09Speaker 2: Neil Cozley is probably going to be the longer term
- 35:11Speaker 2: face of the franchise main operator in the ownership group.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Just by common sense, I mean the shortest tenure of
- 35:18Speaker 2: a Seahawk owner ever was nine years for Ken Barring.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Nine years from now, the two primary owners would be
- 35:24Speaker 2: eighty years old. So it stands the reason that he
- 35:28Speaker 2: will be the son Neil will be heavily involved from
- 35:30Speaker 2: the get go for the eventual running of the franchise.
- 35:34Speaker 2: It would seem, would.
- 35:35Speaker 4: It not, So it just makes sense.
- 35:37Speaker 2: We don't know, of course, but those are some suppositions.
- 35:39Speaker 2: We can make tons tons more to learn about these
- 35:44Speaker 2: fascinating new owners and the Seahawks' choice for them. My
- 35:47Speaker 2: story is up at the neewstribute dot com. We're gonna
- 35:49Speaker 2: go to the text line four nine four five one
- 35:51Speaker 2: at eleven thirty that the Koma Dodge Textlie will you
- 35:54Speaker 2: already have a lot of good questions and we'll have
- 35:56Speaker 2: try to provide a good talking answers of that. Up
- 35:59Speaker 2: next the University of Washington Jetfish. He has been. He
- 36:04Speaker 2: talked this past week, couple days ago about Demon Williams,
- 36:07Speaker 2: the quarterback who went to LSU for new money, then
- 36:10Speaker 2: came back and a contract that you dub held him
- 36:13Speaker 2: to Jetfish talks about went into those couple of days
- 36:16Speaker 2: to keeping Demon Williams on campus. You'll hear from Jetfish
- 36:19Speaker 2: next to ninety three point three KJRF. I don't know
- 36:55Speaker 2: how to actually segue into this of good music like
- 36:58Speaker 2: it is.
- 36:59Speaker 6: I wanted to over relaxation and the little sway little
- 37:04Speaker 6: because we are changing subjects.
- 37:06Speaker 2: It is a little sway. Greg bel Jessmin McIntyre with
- 37:09Speaker 2: you on the first work day after the Seahawks sale
- 37:12Speaker 2: agreement for nine point six billion dollars to a Bay
- 37:16Speaker 2: Area family in Sun Microsystems, artificial intelligence and medical assessments,
- 37:22Speaker 2: artificial intelligence and textbooks for kids and free access at all.
- 37:26Speaker 2: That's who the Causal family, the Coasal family is and
- 37:29Speaker 2: they are also three point one percent owners in the
- 37:31Speaker 2: San Francisco forty nine ers, which they will divest from
- 37:34Speaker 2: before they sale has approved. August twenty sixth is when
- 37:38Speaker 2: the NFL owners will meet and take up the sale approval.
- 37:40Speaker 2: The sale vote of the Seahawks presumably will pass. They
- 37:44Speaker 2: would not have gone this far if the league hadn't
- 37:46Speaker 2: said they're going to pass. Twenty four to thirty two
- 37:47Speaker 2: votes will make it pass back in the off season
- 37:52Speaker 2: of college football. If you can remember that far with
- 37:54Speaker 2: all that's happened since then, you remember when Lane Kiffin
- 37:57Speaker 2: left Mississippi right in the middle of their playoff ru
- 38:00Speaker 2: incredibly and LSU fired everybody, Brian Kelly, the head coach,
- 38:05Speaker 2: Scott Woodard, the athletic director, the governor, cleaned house, did
- 38:07Speaker 2: it at his mansion, all of that.
- 38:09Speaker 4: And I think a lot of people around here like
- 38:11Speaker 4: that name.
- 38:12Speaker 2: Scott Woodward. Yeah, he hired me at the University of Washington.
- 38:15Speaker 2: I like him a lot.
- 38:16Speaker 4: Okay, you can like him. It's the same way I
- 38:19Speaker 4: still like Patch. Hopefully Ian isn't listening right now, but
- 38:23Speaker 4: it's the same way I like him.
- 38:24Speaker 2: Speaking up Patch on his coach, Jet Fish, his football
- 38:28Speaker 2: coach at the University of Washington, had in the middle
- 38:31Speaker 2: of all that chaos with Lane Kiffin and LSU and Mississippi,
- 38:35Speaker 2: LSU went to go poach Demon Williams, the Washington quarterback,
- 38:40Speaker 2: offering him millions of dollars to just to enter the portal.
- 38:44Speaker 2: And then on top of that, ls she was going
- 38:45Speaker 2: to pay him and I ow money. On top of that.
- 38:48Speaker 2: Jetfish was on the podcast this weekend, The Three Man Podcast,
- 38:54Speaker 2: that Urban Mice is quite a crew. Mark Urban or
- 38:57Speaker 2: Ingram excuse me, Mark Ingram the former Alabama in New
- 38:59Speaker 2: yor Urban Meyer, the disgraced former College Florida, Utah, Ohio
- 39:07Speaker 2: State and Jacksonville Jaguars coach. And Rob Stone of Fox Sports,
- 39:13Speaker 2: the host of the World Cup two but also college
- 39:15Speaker 2: football and the anchor of College Football. Well, they have
- 39:18Speaker 2: a podcast they're called a Triple Option, and they had
- 39:22Speaker 2: Jetfish on the podcast and he talked about how the
- 39:25Speaker 2: two days went down of Demon Williams going to LSU
- 39:28Speaker 2: and then going back to Washington.
- 39:29Speaker 8: Damon signed his contract to be a part of our
- 39:32Speaker 8: program for another you know year, and everything was great,
- 39:35Speaker 8: and then we all came back for our first team meeting.
- 39:38Speaker 8: And then when the team meeting ended, he called me
- 39:41Speaker 8: and he said, Coach, I think I need to go.
- 39:44Speaker 8: I need to go on the portal. And I was like,
- 39:46Speaker 8: what are you talking about? Man? What happened was of
- 39:49Speaker 8: program told him they'll pay him an extra two million
- 39:51Speaker 8: dollars if he goes into portal and the kids nineteen
- 39:54Speaker 8: years old. You know, we were paying him a lot,
- 39:56Speaker 8: but you had another two million onto anything.
- 39:58Speaker 5: Wow.
- 39:59Speaker 8: He was live forced to put something out there, and
- 40:03Speaker 8: then we spent about twenty four to thirty six hours
- 40:06Speaker 8: going back and forth and talking about this is the
- 40:08Speaker 8: right place for you, and you know, you have a
- 40:11Speaker 8: contract and contracts mean something. And in the end, you know,
- 40:14Speaker 8: he came back two days later. We didn't change anything.
- 40:17Speaker 8: We didn't give him any more money or anything like that.
- 40:19Speaker 8: But what we did do is we talked to him
- 40:21Speaker 8: about what a great opportunity it is to be a
- 40:23Speaker 8: three year player in the same program, and we got
- 40:26Speaker 8: a chance to do something super special.
- 40:28Speaker 2: So Williams was basically gone, and then he came back,
- 40:32Speaker 2: and a lot of talk here around Seattle over Husky
- 40:34Speaker 2: fans was how how's this going to work? Team dynamical.
- 40:37Speaker 2: Here's a leader of your team, your quarterback, who already
- 40:40Speaker 2: said he was leaving, and now he's back in the
- 40:41Speaker 2: locker room, was forced back, forced back by a contract,
- 40:45Speaker 2: and the U dubbed threatening to sue and enforce the contract.
- 40:47Speaker 2: How's that going to work in the locker room? Well,
- 40:49Speaker 2: here's what Jedfish has said, what's gone on since Williams
- 40:51Speaker 2: returned to the locker room.
- 40:52Speaker 8: What I told our team and is hey, this is
- 40:55Speaker 8: like the NFL. Every now and then a kids, a
- 40:58Speaker 8: guy says hey, I want to trade, and then you
- 40:59Speaker 8: say I'm not going to agent. Then they come back
- 41:00Speaker 8: and they love you, you know. Or sometimes you have
- 41:04Speaker 8: to franchise a guy, or sometimes you have to put
- 41:06Speaker 8: a certain tender on a guy, and then you just
- 41:08Speaker 8: keep it moving. And Demon's come back and he's led
- 41:11Speaker 8: our team and he got the most amount of votes
- 41:14Speaker 8: and leadership counsel, and I think he feels really good
- 41:16Speaker 8: about his decision to return and got caught up a
- 41:18Speaker 8: little bit and some adults were trying to give him
- 41:20Speaker 8: some advice differently than what.
- 41:22Speaker 2: He shouldn't be following it was Jed Fish on the
- 41:25Speaker 2: Triple Option podcast with Mark Ingram urban Meyer and Rob Stone.
- 41:30Speaker 2: He did not mention Lsu by name. He didn't want
- 41:33Speaker 2: to throw Mudd. He didn't have to because everyone knew
- 41:35Speaker 2: who it was. But it was interesting to hear a
- 41:38Speaker 2: coach's perspective in that way with another coach and player.
- 41:40Speaker 6: I was going to say, I think that he said
- 41:42Speaker 6: adults and that is more than just one. And I
- 41:47Speaker 6: think that whoever his financial guy was was also cut
- 41:52Speaker 6: off contact in that And I think when it comes
- 41:56Speaker 6: to young people, especially college athletes. You don't have to
- 42:00Speaker 6: be a certified agent. You don't have to be a lawyer,
- 42:03Speaker 6: you don't have to go to law school. You can
- 42:05Speaker 6: just be a guy that goes talks and talks to
- 42:08Speaker 6: other guys. And I'm sure that there are plenty of
- 42:11Speaker 6: them that are actually pretty good at it. But that's
- 42:15Speaker 6: just a person who is in his ear, and that
- 42:18Speaker 6: sounds like a bad person that was in his ear.
- 42:21Speaker 6: So if there are any college athletes out there who
- 42:24Speaker 6: are listening, and.
- 42:26Speaker 4: I hope you're not, you should not be listening to us.
- 42:29Speaker 6: But you need to find someone who knows exactly how
- 42:34Speaker 6: to have your best interests. They will tell you and
- 42:36Speaker 6: they might believe that they have your best interests, but
- 42:40Speaker 6: they know they have to know how to have your
- 42:42Speaker 6: best interests. And that's what I think happened to demand.
- 42:45Speaker 6: He made a dumb decision but was advised by people
- 42:48Speaker 6: who did not know what they were doing.
- 42:50Speaker 2: How many cases have we had in the last three
- 42:52Speaker 2: years of college football that de Mon Williams offers all
- 42:56Speaker 2: the time, here's two million dollars just to join the portal,
- 42:58Speaker 2: and then we'll give you an eye on money on
- 43:00Speaker 2: top of that. Who went and the schools never did
- 43:03Speaker 2: what Washington did. That happens all the time. Yes, and
- 43:06Speaker 2: they didn't have as binding of agreement as Washington's apparently
- 43:09Speaker 2: legally was binding. How do you feel Husky fans? Four
- 43:12Speaker 2: nine one d the commododge tech line. I may be
- 43:15Speaker 2: ripping up old scars here by asking about it, but
- 43:17Speaker 2: de Mont Williams coming back.
- 43:18Speaker 6: The first real conversation Jed Fish has had about it
- 43:21Speaker 6: though that I've heard now, well, no, no, I mean
- 43:25Speaker 6: like post the whole situation where he's just being honest
- 43:28Speaker 6: about it's the first thing that he's really said about
- 43:33Speaker 6: how Demond has been because it's the only time he's
- 43:35Speaker 6: actually been with his teammates that you abandoned.
- 43:39Speaker 2: Right four one? How you feel about de Mon Williams
- 43:42Speaker 2: returning for a third season as the Huskies quarterback after
- 43:44Speaker 2: all that went on this offseason? We'll read back to
- 43:46Speaker 2: text at eleven thirty up. Next, we'll talk about a
- 43:48Speaker 2: World Cup. We'll talk to Seahawks sale with mas Vita
- 43:51Speaker 2: Marrera of Cascade of Sports Net and Fox thirteen Sports
- 43:55Speaker 2: in Seattle. He was down in Englewood, California, Friday for
- 43:58Speaker 2: the Spain in Belgium World Cup quarterfinal. We're gonna ask him,
- 44:02Speaker 2: can Spain beat France. That's gonna be one of the
- 44:05Speaker 2: two semifinals. Here on Tuesday and Wednesday on ninety three
- 44:07Speaker 2: point three KJRFM, we'll hear from maz Vita next and
- 44:10Speaker 2: KJR now from the Star Rentals Sports Desk. Your ninety
- 44:34Speaker 2: three point three KJRFM sports headline, Good morning, Moz Vitemar
- 44:38Speaker 2: talking about the World Cup. Right after headlines about to
- 44:40Speaker 2: You by Frostbrey Corslight Choose Chill. Seahawks have a sales
- 44:43Speaker 2: agreement NFL record nine point six billion dollar sale to
- 44:47Speaker 2: the Kosala family in the Bay Area, when the second
- 44:49Speaker 2: out of town owners in the fifty two years of
- 44:51Speaker 2: Seahawks have existed. Second richest sale of a North American
- 44:54Speaker 2: sports franchise ever had a ten billion dollars to the
- 44:57Speaker 2: Lots Angeles Lakers. Berners ended the first half by finally
- 45:01Speaker 2: winning seven to two at Tampa Bay is the only
- 45:03Speaker 2: win of a six game road trip through Miami. In
- 45:05Speaker 2: Saint Petersburg, Emerson Hancock stuck out his hand to try
- 45:08Speaker 2: to catch a one hopper and the very first pitch
- 45:10Speaker 2: of the game ended up having to leave after just
- 45:13Speaker 2: an inning. And two thirds the x rays on his
- 45:16Speaker 2: palm of his pitching hand and a middle finger negative.
- 45:19Speaker 2: Good thing for him, and the Mariners are on the
- 45:22Speaker 2: All Star break now through the next couple days. All
- 45:24Speaker 2: Star game is tomorrow. The Mariners are game under five
- 45:27Speaker 2: hundred a game and a half back in the American
- 45:29Speaker 2: League West for first place, actually holding a wildcard spot
- 45:32Speaker 2: right now. If that's any consolation or not for that yeah, well,
- 45:38Speaker 2: silver lining a one to five road drip. Mariners had
- 45:41Speaker 2: their Major League draft over the weekend. First round pick
- 45:43Speaker 2: a hitter, a third baseman, Ace Reees from Mississippi State.
- 45:46Speaker 2: Second round LSU slugging out for to Jake Brown, almost
- 45:49Speaker 2: all twenty of the Mariners draft picks or college players.
- 45:52Speaker 2: Storm led early at Washington but then lost for the
- 45:55Speaker 2: nineteenth time in twenty five games. Yesterday the World Cup quarterfinals,
- 45:58Speaker 2: it's going to be Spain against France. That's because Spain
- 46:02Speaker 2: beat Belgium in Los Angeles on Friday, France beat Morocco,
- 46:05Speaker 2: England beat Norway. Three Lions play Argentina because Argentina beat Switzerland.
- 46:10Speaker 2: A mid controversy on Saturday night, and the president of
- 46:14Speaker 2: fifusays he wants to expand maybe they're exploring the possibility
- 46:18Speaker 2: expanding the World Cup from forty eight to sixty four teams.
- 46:20Speaker 2: He just expanded it this year from thirty two to
- 46:23Speaker 2: forty eight. Mazvita Marire of Cascadia Sports Net and Fox
- 46:29Speaker 2: thirteen Sports Television World Cup analyst. He's joining us on
- 46:34Speaker 2: the Beacon Plumbing hotline. I don't know if he's still
- 46:36Speaker 2: in Englewood, but he was there on Friday in Sofi
- 46:39Speaker 2: Stadium for Spain and Belgium in the World Cup quarterfinals.
- 46:43Speaker 5: Good morning, sir, Good morning back to you, sir. How
- 46:48Speaker 5: you doing.
- 46:48Speaker 3: Thanks for having me and it's always great to get
- 46:51Speaker 3: on with you and Jessinine.
- 46:52Speaker 5: Love it, love it and you great audience. So thanks
- 46:54Speaker 5: for having me.
- 46:55Speaker 2: Appreciate it. So where are you Are you back? Are
- 46:57Speaker 2: you still do in Socoa?
- 47:01Speaker 5: The confines of the two oh things?
- 47:02Speaker 2: All right? I know you have connections down there, so
- 47:05Speaker 2: I don't know if you had extended weekend or what.
- 47:06Speaker 2: So tell us about we'll talk off wid tell us
- 47:11Speaker 2: about Spain and Belgium and watching the broadcast Friday afternoon,
- 47:16Speaker 2: they were first remarking about how sweltering hot it was
- 47:19Speaker 2: inside of a closed roof Sofi Stadium. Did that have
- 47:23Speaker 2: an effect on the game, And what were your impressions
- 47:26Speaker 2: of Spain who have allowed their first goal of the
- 47:29Speaker 2: tournament in the first half and yet rallied in one.
- 47:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 47:33Speaker 3: No, I thought the atmosphere was absolutely electric, right. And
- 47:38Speaker 3: so you think about crowds, there's so many different crowds, right,
- 47:43Speaker 3: and you know that and covering sports.
- 47:45Speaker 5: So I'll put it this week.
- 47:47Speaker 3: There was a crowd that comes in on a Sunday
- 47:50Speaker 3: one pm game, right, it's a rivalry game, you know
- 47:53Speaker 3: NFL team, let's say forty nine Ers Seahawks, if you will.
- 47:56Speaker 3: And then there's a different crowd that's there on a
- 47:59Speaker 3: Monday night with those same two teams, well a Thursday night, right,
- 48:05Speaker 3: And so this crowd was understood the sophistication of A
- 48:11Speaker 3: the magnitude of the event. So you're just you know,
- 48:15Speaker 3: on uing and clapping for all the things that are happening.
- 48:18Speaker 3: But B you'll also understand your role in the event.
- 48:22Speaker 5: So you also you you're.
- 48:24Speaker 3: Constantly cheering, and you're cheering on your team, and that's
- 48:27Speaker 3: when the sophistication. So it was always always noise, uh
- 48:35Speaker 3: during the game.
- 48:35Speaker 5: So you had that atmosphere. It was hot. That was
- 48:38Speaker 5: my first time in Sofi Stadium.
- 48:40Speaker 3: It was hot, but you know the press boxes, you
- 48:44Speaker 3: know how that goes.
- 48:44Speaker 5: It's cool.
- 48:46Speaker 3: But it was still absolutely concert like atmosphere.
- 48:51Speaker 5: It was amazing.
- 48:53Speaker 3: How about the fact that go ahead, I'm sorry, no, no, no, no,
- 48:56Speaker 3: go ahead.
- 48:57Speaker 2: How about the fact of where the stadium is compared
- 49:00Speaker 2: to Seattle. Of course, Seattle and Vancouver both praised and
- 49:03Speaker 2: all the World Cup people that have come in from
- 49:05Speaker 2: around the world saying that Seattle and Vancouver were the
- 49:07Speaker 2: two best venues because of access to downtown and walkability
- 49:11Speaker 2: and the places to go afterwards. Sofi Stadium of courses
- 49:15Speaker 2: in Inglewood, and it's out detached from the downtown La
- 49:18Speaker 2: Corps for sure, although they're trying to build up around
- 49:21Speaker 2: there to still Argie Strip malls and streets and not
- 49:24Speaker 2: much around the stadium. Did the averguere outside the stadium
- 49:28Speaker 2: resemble or can rival or compare it all to Seattle?
- 49:34Speaker 3: It did, I must say it really did, because well,
- 49:37Speaker 3: they had their kind of tailgate area was to me
- 49:43Speaker 3: bigger than Seattle had. Because in Seattle you've got the
- 49:47Speaker 3: buildings right if you're the North parking lot, like you
- 49:49Speaker 3: and I walked in the US game.
- 49:51Speaker 5: You know how that fence was.
- 49:52Speaker 3: Right there, well, pushed back where the buildings are all
- 49:57Speaker 3: the way to a King's station and opened that up
- 49:59Speaker 3: to the experience as well.
- 50:01Speaker 5: So in that I think it was.
- 50:06Speaker 3: It was there was more audience and there was more
- 50:11Speaker 3: a lot more fans there in that regard, but getting
- 50:14Speaker 3: in and out of it was.
- 50:15Speaker 5: Just it was horrible, horrible.
- 50:19Speaker 3: There was a surch charge for the Ubers two hundred
- 50:22Speaker 3: bucks to get this to the stadium.
- 50:24Speaker 5: I mean to get to lax.
- 50:26Speaker 3: So you know, everybody like you walk half a mile
- 50:30Speaker 3: right to cut down on the cost.
- 50:32Speaker 4: That is how I got my steps in Moss.
- 50:34Speaker 5: I hear you exactly. I mean the taxi driver is
- 50:39Speaker 5: going two hundred bucks. I'm like, but it's five miles.
- 50:42Speaker 5: He looks at me and he goes next.
- 50:46Speaker 2: At so far you usually have to walk across the
- 50:49Speaker 2: street to the Forum. The old Forum still, the fabulous
- 50:51Speaker 2: Forum where the Lakers and Kings used to play, still
- 50:53Speaker 2: exists for concerts, and they pick you up there. Wouldy
- 50:56Speaker 2: not even let you pick you up there for the
- 50:58Speaker 2: World Cup?
- 50:59Speaker 5: Well they did, but that's where the supply and demand.
- 51:03Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly exactly.
- 51:06Speaker 5: I think you know that great you and I have walked.
- 51:08Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, it's like.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Of course they're gonna take, you know, advantage of that.
- 51:15Speaker 3: So yeah, you've got to find some crevice and whatnot.
- 51:18Speaker 5: Like they just saying you get your steps in and
- 51:21Speaker 5: you saved you a little.
- 51:21Speaker 2: Bit of Well, let me ask you about the overall
- 51:24Speaker 2: World Cup experience so cow wide. Was it like from
- 51:27Speaker 2: Manhattan Beach to LA World Cup or I would thinks
- 51:30Speaker 2: so much going on in Los Angeles it was not
- 51:32Speaker 2: quite like Seattle.
- 51:34Speaker 5: Yeah, it wasn't quite like Seattle. They did. There was
- 51:40Speaker 5: a beach party. Yeah, beach party that.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Was held you know, LA style, but I think Seattle
- 51:48Speaker 3: had more and that was on the west side of
- 51:50Speaker 3: LA obviously, but Seattle.
- 51:52Speaker 5: Had more viewer parties within the vicinity.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Just out of proximity. Ebout. All right, how about on
- 52:00Speaker 2: the field, can Spain beat France? You saw Spain in person.
- 52:04Speaker 2: They're ranked one to two in the world or actually
- 52:07Speaker 2: two to three in Argentina's number one.
- 52:09Speaker 5: The top four teams are the semifinals.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Correct, eventually.
- 52:16Speaker 5: They they can. I don't think they will.
- 52:19Speaker 3: I was amazed at Spain's ability to keep the ball
- 52:24Speaker 3: on the carpet, you know, once you looked.
- 52:26Speaker 5: At it from overview. I was just Greg, I was
- 52:29Speaker 5: just astonished. They only passed the ball in the air
- 52:33Speaker 5: two or three times.
- 52:34Speaker 3: So that tick attack Barcelona type of thing is what
- 52:40Speaker 3: Spain plays now.
- 52:41Speaker 5: The issue I think they have to step.
- 52:44Speaker 3: Up their game in the final third, right Leon Lamar
- 52:48Speaker 3: is very good, but he needs other players to step up,
- 52:51Speaker 3: and they've got, you know, competent and star players. I
- 52:56Speaker 3: just don't know if they can take it up another
- 53:00Speaker 3: notch in the final third. And he's coming back from
- 53:05Speaker 3: an injury and he just turned nineteen exactly, so it
- 53:09Speaker 3: takes I mean, it takes a little bit to be
- 53:13Speaker 3: a leader in nineteen. I don't know, Greg, I mean,
- 53:17Speaker 3: he's got the steals, but the mental aspect still has
- 53:20Speaker 3: to grow.
- 53:21Speaker 2: And you would think France is going to devise their
- 53:23Speaker 2: whole game plan around him, at least defensively. They're not
- 53:28Speaker 2: known for their defense of France. The thinking is you
- 53:31Speaker 2: may be able to score on them, but you can't
- 53:32Speaker 2: outscore the firepower that they have. The other semi final,
- 53:36Speaker 2: I don't know how much you got to watch the
- 53:37Speaker 2: Three Lions and their escape. The other day of thanks
- 53:40Speaker 2: to Jude Bellingham. And now they get Argentina. What did
- 53:43Speaker 2: you make first of the Argentina Switzerland referee. I mean,
- 53:48Speaker 2: if he doesn't get the yellow card wrong on the
- 53:50Speaker 2: Argentinian player first on the feigned tackle and dive, then
- 53:55Speaker 2: var doesn't even review it, and then they isn't even
- 53:58Speaker 2: a second yellow. The player just gets ignored. If he
- 54:00Speaker 2: didn't make a card to begin with. It has just
- 54:02Speaker 2: been a common found in the middle of the field, right, yeah.
- 54:05Speaker 3: Right, because V intervened on that as usual, right, I mean, unfortunately,
- 54:12Speaker 3: and he really didn't have a choice once it went
- 54:16Speaker 3: in there. Again, this is gonna be the issue for soccer.
- 54:21Speaker 3: Var right, you shouldn't opt in.
- 54:24Speaker 5: You should op the.
- 54:25Speaker 3: VR should only be used by the referee, as odd
- 54:28Speaker 3: as that sounds, right he if he's like, well maybe I.
- 54:31Speaker 5: Didn't see it or whatnot, then he should go out.
- 54:34Speaker 3: They shouldn't be the eyes in the sky to be
- 54:36Speaker 3: able to, you know, critique every decision unless it's an
- 54:41Speaker 3: egregious error, and.
- 54:42Speaker 5: Then the referee.
- 54:45Speaker 3: They've got to give the referee enough latitude to say, no,
- 54:49Speaker 3: what I saw on the field was real time. What
- 54:51Speaker 3: you're seeing is more of a slowed up version, and
- 54:55Speaker 3: so that should be a sixty to forty type of decision.
- 54:59Speaker 5: Right now, it's a hundred said, you know what.
- 55:00Speaker 2: I mean, Yeah, as soon as he goes to the monitor,
- 55:03Speaker 2: it's over. But it's so yeah exactly, And that's not
- 55:08Speaker 2: really the intent of var is it. It's the correct,
- 55:11Speaker 2: clear and obvious mistakes. Yet it's intervening and reofficiating certain
- 55:16Speaker 2: play like the Egypt play that wouldn't let one hundred
- 55:20Speaker 2: yards up the field ten to fifteen seconds before the
- 55:22Speaker 2: goal even happened. They reofficiated that play that allowed Argentina
- 55:26Speaker 2: to stay behind only by one goal. Do you buy
- 55:29Speaker 2: this that FIFA is rigging it so that Argentina, in
- 55:32Speaker 2: particular in MESSI get as far as they've gotten in
- 55:35Speaker 2: the tournament.
- 55:37Speaker 3: You and I ref and let's be honest, we'll ref
- 55:39Speaker 3: different stuff. But to rig a match is difficult, right,
- 55:44Speaker 3: I mean, it's just it's difficult. But there's a human
- 55:49Speaker 3: component that comes in when you're reffing, right, And so
- 55:53Speaker 3: you know, Greg, you and I know you know when
- 55:55Speaker 3: you're reffing certain teams and you know who just start
- 55:57Speaker 3: players are, and good officials would of the records.
- 56:00Speaker 5: And everything else.
- 56:01Speaker 3: So it's going to sew that decision a little bit
- 56:04Speaker 3: from a human error perspective.
- 56:06Speaker 5: And I think that's the issue. Maybe the importance of.
- 56:09Speaker 3: Saying, well, you know, messy, I don't want to you know,
- 56:12Speaker 3: mess up messy if you will. I think that plays
- 56:15Speaker 3: into it. Going back, I think what people, what all
- 56:19Speaker 3: they're going to have to take a look at is
- 56:22Speaker 3: what is information for?
- 56:24Speaker 5: Right? That's what VAR has And we also see that
- 56:26Speaker 5: in the NFL and baseball.
- 56:29Speaker 3: So are you presenting information for someone to make a
- 56:33Speaker 3: decision or are you demanding they make a decision on
- 56:36Speaker 3: the information that you're given there.
- 56:38Speaker 2: But as you describe it, and as we've seen, the
- 56:41Speaker 2: most important person in this World Cup is each game's
- 56:44Speaker 2: var official because he actually has more power than the
- 56:48Speaker 2: guy with the whistle in the middle of the.
- 56:49Speaker 5: Field, because because I can correct you your call.
- 56:54Speaker 3: And I'm like, oh no, that's yeah, you know, that's
- 56:57Speaker 3: a way we're train that's uh, the left the reels.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Right, Okay, Now let's talk about something else of the
- 57:04Speaker 2: World Cup that they're tinkering with. Now, Infantina's talking about
- 57:08Speaker 2: sixty four teams. I mean, what does that mean? Is
- 57:11Speaker 2: are we going to have Like I can't even think
- 57:13Speaker 2: of is Bermuda gonna be in the World Cup?
- 57:15Speaker 5: Now?
- 57:15Speaker 2: Are we gonna? Are we gonna have Guam? What?
- 57:19Speaker 7: What?
- 57:19Speaker 2: What? Where do we stop? Why don't we just let
- 57:22Speaker 2: ever you have one of the two hundred and eleven
- 57:24Speaker 2: FIFA sanctioned countries play Trinidad and Tobago. Everybody, what I mean,
- 57:29Speaker 2: come on, where's the stop here? I mean, do you
- 57:31Speaker 2: see somebody stopping them from going to sixty four? Or
- 57:34Speaker 2: if the FIFA president wants it, the cartel gets it.
- 57:38Speaker 3: The infrastructure is what's going to stop them. The infrastructure
- 57:42Speaker 3: and safety is what's going to stop that. Do you
- 57:43Speaker 3: know what I mean? Like you've got to But it's
- 57:46Speaker 3: interesting because now they're going to try hosts, right, and
- 57:49Speaker 3: so that's but it's so the safety and the infrastructure
- 57:54Speaker 3: of the places that are being held is what will
- 57:56Speaker 3: stop it. But to your point, if they if they could,
- 57:59Speaker 3: they could there was pretty much every team except Heed
- 58:05Speaker 3: in the world.
- 58:07Speaker 2: The truck.
- 58:08Speaker 5: To answer your question just about the if.
- 58:12Speaker 3: I may, I think England does a really good job
- 58:15Speaker 3: of taking away space in terms of little Mike mcdonald'sm
- 58:20Speaker 3: right right, taking away space, and that's in France does
- 58:24Speaker 3: that too in terms of defense. Why is that important
- 58:27Speaker 3: because then you can limit your opponent's field.
- 58:30Speaker 5: So you're gonna push Messi out a little bit.
- 58:33Speaker 3: Right, He's gonna do his work on the outside, but
- 58:36Speaker 3: the England defense will be solid and steadfast in the
- 58:39Speaker 3: middle right and expecting him to cut back inside. And
- 58:43Speaker 3: so I think that's going to be why I think
- 58:46Speaker 3: England's got a very very good chance of winning this game.
- 58:50Speaker 2: You know what to help them is if Thomas Tuckle
- 58:52Speaker 2: does not take Anthony Gordon off the pitch. He's been
- 58:55Speaker 2: the best player for England the last two matches. Nobody
- 58:58Speaker 2: can stop him down the left side, and then sixty
- 59:01Speaker 2: minutes into that match the other they took him out.
- 59:03Speaker 2: With the score time we were Eric and Ivis Sodden
- 59:05Speaker 2: and I we're watch to go. He's been their best player,
- 59:08Speaker 2: no one can cover him and they took him out.
- 59:11Speaker 2: But you're your point, Yes, England playing so well and
- 59:14Speaker 2: now they are Bellingham scoring on top of what Caine
- 59:16Speaker 2: can do and the defense that you talked about. They
- 59:18Speaker 2: play Argentina in one semifinal, Spans and France. France and
- 59:23Speaker 2: Spain play in the other semi final. A right. Now
- 59:25Speaker 2: you got your final four, what do you think happens
- 59:27Speaker 2: and who wins? Maz?
- 59:31Speaker 3: I mean, I think France wins it, and I'm I
- 59:36Speaker 3: think the you know, let's call a few of the
- 59:38Speaker 3: sounders be love that. But I think England is going
- 59:40Speaker 3: to upset the Argentina. I just because they solid and
- 59:47Speaker 3: they know how to play the game. Against Mexico, Tommy
- 59:51Speaker 3: was eye opening, right, They know how to play different styles.
- 59:55Speaker 5: So that's why I think England it's it's not come
- 1:00:00Speaker 5: being home. You get to take a look at it.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: It's on the porch. Yeah, that'll be tantalizing.
- 1:00:12Speaker 3: But the storylines between day I mean, I mean France
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: and England, Historic Atlantic.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: That wouldn't that be something? Because yeah, that will be wild.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: That would the final. The semi finals are going to
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: be on ninety three point three KJR on Tuesday and
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Wednesday at noon hours, and then the final is an
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: East Brother in New Jersey on Sunday, July nineteenth, I
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: believe at noon Easter times. Are you being there for that?
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: I knew you were trying to get credentialed for the
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: East Rutherford portion.
- 1:00:42Speaker 3: I am on that standby list. The lottery determined, you know,
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: and that's okay.
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: I mean all what you don't want the bright lights
- 1:00:50Speaker 6: of Piscataway.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: He didn't have a choice in lottery.
- 1:00:56Speaker 4: I consider yourself lucky on either end.
- 1:01:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean the quarter. I'll take the quart of
- 1:01:03Speaker 5: Spain and Belgium.
- 1:01:04Speaker 3: All of us were talking about that, that that's the
- 1:01:06Speaker 3: game that you will look back.
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: Years later and go, how was you know? As we
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: get I was there. You know, it was a five
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: to five game. How you make the story you get older,
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: But that was good enough.
- 1:01:18Speaker 2: Maz. Appreciate you. Maybe we'll catch up with you after
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: the semi finals. Thanks for catching up with us.
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: Appreciate you. Thanks for having me on.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: By y'all appreciate it. Ma's Vita Marrer. He's soccer through
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: and three. He played for Roosevelt High School. He coaches
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: Orca Middle School in South Seattle. Seattle Guy Lake City
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: Guy joining us on the Beacon Plumbing high and you'll
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: find him on Fox thirteen Seattle and their television coverage
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: of the World Cup as well coming up. Lots of
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: feedback on the Tacoma Dodge Tech sign and we have
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: at least four talk packs.
- 1:01:49Speaker 6: We have a very continuous talk back from but I
- 1:01:53Speaker 6: do appreciate the fact that our friend keeps going back
- 1:01:58Speaker 6: and continuing the story.
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: So I think I looped at least one thought together.
- 1:02:03Speaker 2: You're here, you're a reader, your listener, and Texter feedback
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: next to ninety three point three KJRFF Hello show.
- 1:02:32Speaker 9: First Off, Dan Wilson needs to go. He's way over
- 1:02:36Speaker 9: his head. He looks like he's pooping his pants every
- 1:02:39Speaker 9: single time he's out there. He's so unconfident. It makes
- 1:02:43Speaker 9: me cringe every time I watch him manage. He's so
- 1:02:47Speaker 9: one confident. And the Seahawks, I am very, very excited
- 1:02:51Speaker 9: about this new family owning it. I think they'll move
- 1:02:54Speaker 9: to Seattle, they'll embrace it. And I love having a
- 1:02:57Speaker 9: young son who could be the owner. To continue what
- 1:03:00Speaker 9: I was saying, I love how it's a husband and
- 1:03:03Speaker 9: wife team. They're great investors. And I like how they
- 1:03:06Speaker 9: have a younger son who men. They're both in their seventies,
- 1:03:11Speaker 9: so they're not spring chickens. But I like how they
- 1:03:13Speaker 9: have a younger son whose sounds like he's a sports fanatic,
- 1:03:18Speaker 9: extremely smart, Stanford educated. He also has done stuff by himself,
- 1:03:23Speaker 9: not daddy's money. And I like him going forward as well.
- 1:03:27Speaker 9: The forty nine er thing doesn't make any sense to me.
- 1:03:31Speaker 9: It's it's if people are worried about that, and they're
- 1:03:34Speaker 9: just being worried and they're not just annoying. Mike Holmgren
- 1:03:39Speaker 9: was one of the greatest forty nine ers ever. He
- 1:03:42Speaker 9: has three Super Bowl rings with them. He came to
- 1:03:46Speaker 9: the Seahawks and was just fine. When you come to
- 1:03:49Speaker 9: the different side, you want to win even more so.
- 1:03:53Speaker 9: And the forty nine ers needed them for investment.
- 1:03:58Speaker 4: A lot of points made there.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: As we said, buying a three percent taking the forty
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: nine ers greased the kids for them to be able
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: to purchase a team for themselves once they learned the process,
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: the salesperson and the league. More to the point, other
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: team owners learned them too. They had to prove them
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: to get to become minority holders.
- 1:04:14Speaker 6: And I think he makes a good point because that
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: applies to players as well as soon as they go
- 1:04:19Speaker 6: to I'd like, let's say it just, you know, a
- 1:04:21Speaker 6: seahawk to a forty nine er, A forty nine or
- 1:04:24Speaker 6: two a seahawk that applies very well in the locker room.
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't think it's a huge deal.
- 1:04:30Speaker 6: It's no good conditions, Like you said, three percent majority owner.
- 1:04:36Speaker 6: But what I like about it is just that they
- 1:04:39Speaker 6: learned the lay of the land before bringing a huge purchase.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: Exactly lots on here about the sale it. I think
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: most two of six is right. I think most Seahawks
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: fans would have preferred a local buyer. Just feeled weird
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: the lifelong Niner fans now own the Seahawks fans as strange. Yes,
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: in that sense. On face value, it is I mentioned
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: to you the local whale, a couple of you on them,
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: more than a couple you asked me about that. It
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: never materialized. Obviously. I don't know between this announcement on
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Saturday and me hosting you here on Monday morning whether
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: there was just that person never bid or was not
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: interested in the price what it got to. I do
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: know that multiple bidders drove the price higher, obviously over
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: the last few months, and that's exactly what it's designed for.
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: That's why you take multiple bids. I don't know where
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: that left any potential local buyers. So and obviously the
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: rumored ex Seahawk was a member of the one of
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: the bidding teams that didn't succeed. There were three bids,
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: Two made it to the final stage and one to one.
- 1:05:43Speaker 6: You never know the minority owners though, that might good point.
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: We haven't talked about that yet. The NFL memo to
- 1:05:52Speaker 2: teams said that there would be several several minority owners
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: and the teams.
- 1:05:58Speaker 4: So some of those locals still my be there.
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: They could, Yes, there could also be people in the
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: minority ownership who have experience owning teams. We don't know that.
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: We do know that the NFL will permit up to
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: twenty four minority owners plus a controlling owner. You could
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: have twenty five total owners of an NFL franchise. You
- 1:06:16Speaker 2: can also, as of a couple of years ago, they
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: changed the rule you can have private equity and private
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: equity firm take on up to ten percent of a
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: new sports franchise. That's also new. So we don't know.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: We don't know if a private equity firm is going
- 1:06:31Speaker 2: to buy a piece of this. We don't know how
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: many partners other than the several which was quoted in
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: the NFL memo. Several doesn't imply twenty two that we
- 1:06:39Speaker 2: have a max twenty four twenty five owners. But yes,
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: there are going to be more owners than just the closels.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: That is, the NFL made that clear, and we don't
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: know what their background is and what their experience level is.
- 1:06:51Speaker 2: That's all still part of the all that we don't.
- 1:06:53Speaker 6: Know, right so anything that we were mentioning, because I
- 1:06:56Speaker 6: was pretty passionate when I talked on this show to
- 1:06:59Speaker 6: you about it that all of the big whales that
- 1:07:02Speaker 6: were out there in public, I was disappointed to not
- 1:07:05Speaker 6: hear anything local. But now that we know that there
- 1:07:09Speaker 6: are also a lot more allowances, that doesn't mean that
- 1:07:11Speaker 6: local will not be a part of this team. And
- 1:07:13Speaker 6: it sounds like these owners are very smart and have
- 1:07:17Speaker 6: done business extremely well, and that they have a young
- 1:07:21Speaker 6: son in his thirties who can also assist in Hey,
- 1:07:27Speaker 6: we need to appeal to the local spirit here and
- 1:07:30Speaker 6: maybe welcome those people that we were guessing might be interested.
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: They Vano Kosha made a point of saying after the
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: sale the news came out on Saturday, that he was
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: very much looking forward to and excited to continue the
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: legacy of the Allen owned Seahawks and the ownership of
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: the Seahawks. That was a pretty savvy move to say
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: that in one of his only public comments, because that
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: continuity is exactly what Seahawks fans want. But if there's
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: one thing that Seahawk fans want, hearing that there's a
- 1:08:03Speaker 2: out of town Bay Area minority owner of the forty
- 1:08:06Speaker 2: nine ers buying the Seahawks, it's continuity of the Seahawks.
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: Don't change anything. Change what you want in the office furniture,
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: and maybe you mow the grass differently, but don't change
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: the football. And that continuity piece is what Bonoda Koscha
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: spoke to in his comments at least on the online
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: coming the only one he said he was going to
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: make on Saturday after the noon after the newsgame.
- 1:08:28Speaker 6: Now, listen, I know for a fact that grass will
- 1:08:31Speaker 6: not be mowed any differently. We all know about the
- 1:08:35Speaker 6: pristine grass that they have out there, that's all.
- 1:08:38Speaker 4: Of the practice fields.
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: Maybe they might water differently at Lumen.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: You know what I would ask him, though, if I
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: had an opportunity to, One of the first questions I
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: would ask the new owners is are you going to
- 1:08:48Speaker 2: keep grass as the playing surface at Lumenfield?
- 1:08:50Speaker 4: Now that is a legit question.
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: And that is also something they could change and that
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: would cost money. We've talked about this it's possible. I
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: know it rains up here. I've lived for thirty years.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: I get it. Wait, yeah, I heard in the winter.
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: But that doesn't mean you can't replace this up Pittsburgh
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: replaces the grass three or four times a year, and
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: now they also freezes, right, but they also have pitt
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Plan college football on it. They have high school championship
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: games on it. It gets chewed. There's like thirty some
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: football events a year. Lots of divots, yes, but they
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: the Steelers spend the money and put in new grass.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: So the question is will the new owners do that.
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: They've just put it in for the World Cup. There's
- 1:09:30Speaker 2: one more match left. Yesterday the rain played on the
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: grass field. One more match this week the Sounders play
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: Portland in the Cascadia Cup, and that's it. The grass
- 1:09:39Speaker 2: is going out. They're going to have a transition period
- 1:09:42Speaker 2: from now until the first of August, and then I
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: think it's the first Friday or first few days of August,
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: the Seahawks have a fan fest at the stadium on
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: back on their turf. That's the plan.
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:09:51Speaker 6: It is interesting to me too from a fan side,
- 1:09:54Speaker 6: how many people are interested in that, because that is
- 1:09:57Speaker 6: a huge question before any Kugar game I report on.
- 1:10:01Speaker 4: Is what is the field surface look like?
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: What is this?
- 1:10:05Speaker 4: You know, how is it?
- 1:10:07Speaker 6: Because there was this game last night, and there was
- 1:10:09Speaker 6: a Monster Drug rally a week ago?
- 1:10:11Speaker 4: What is a field surface?
- 1:10:12Speaker 6: Oh? Okay, it's turf. And you know, people ask me
- 1:10:15Speaker 6: about the pellets and all that, and I'm like, wow,
- 1:10:18Speaker 6: I did not know there was this much of an
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: outside investment in this information. But I respect it, and
- 1:10:25Speaker 6: then now I am invested in it.
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: So and of course the grass field has become a
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: point of issue for the NFL Players Association, Yes, and
- 1:10:34Speaker 2: they have talked about it, and they keep talking about
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: like this needs to change. I say that you need
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: to go to collective bargaining and make sure that you
- 1:10:40Speaker 2: draw a line and say, okay, you want to sign
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: a new contract in twenty thirty, make all grass fields.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: We saw it with the World Cup. It's possible. Hell,
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: they were putting indoors and indoor fields in Atlanta and
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: Dallas and everything else with grass fields. They can do
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: it. It's just whether owners want to spend the money. Now
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: you have new ownership who could potentially change that. I
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: don't know that they will. There's no indications are going
- 1:11:04Speaker 2: to and so far, as I said, the plan is
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: the Seahawks will begin the preseason on their same old
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: or refurbished updated turf underneath it's remember it stayed under
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: the grass. They build a platform and put the grass
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: field over top of it with a draining system under it.
- 1:11:18Speaker 6: You know what I always found interesting from when I
- 1:11:20Speaker 6: first started sideline reporting for Washington State, I thought that
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: players would prefer turf just because it's consistent and that
- 1:11:30Speaker 6: you know it's going to be exactly the same.
- 1:11:32Speaker 4: They don't. They want grass yep, and.
- 1:11:35Speaker 6: I I don't know why, because everything's going to be
- 1:11:39Speaker 6: different depending on the terrain that you're in. And in
- 1:11:43Speaker 6: the NFL, I think everything's a little more consistent, but
- 1:11:47Speaker 6: not in college and.
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: They still want it.
- 1:11:50Speaker 6: They still want it, and I get that they've played
- 1:11:52Speaker 6: on it their entire lives. Not everyone plays on turf
- 1:11:55Speaker 6: growing up. And I also appreciate that so much of it,
- 1:12:00Speaker 6: so I can tell you you grass guys.
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: I played in Ohio Stadium it was the Horseshoe and
- 1:12:06Speaker 2: Columbus back in the old turf when they just laid
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: it down over concrete. It was like being on the street.
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: Oh man, and I could. I was seventeen years old
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: playing two state title games. I couldn't walk for a week.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: My joints were hurt, and I was thinking, how the
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: hell do you plan this?
- 1:12:18Speaker 6: The former I know that Tyler Wicki's doing a ton
- 1:12:20Speaker 6: with Memorial Stadium, but I believe that that was built
- 1:12:24Speaker 6: on concrete as well.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Yeah, and that's how old old turf. They just rolled
- 1:12:27Speaker 2: out some carpet on top of concrete and that's how
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: they played. But not at least it's a little softer,
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: of course.
- 1:12:32Speaker 4: A little more research.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: A lot of the fields have rubber pellets that are cancerous.
- 1:12:36Speaker 2: Is Washington found.
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: Out all of a sudden. There's that part of it.
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: Two five says, don't forget it's the son who is
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: a big forty nine er fan. Well, that's true, but
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: also his father. But no coach has been quoted as saying,
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: and is recently in twenty twenty five at a forty
- 1:12:50Speaker 2: nine Ers fan summit at Levi Stadium, that the family
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: had been forty nine Er fans for twenty five years.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: He said that he and his son bought season tickets
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: when his son was five years old. His son is
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: now in his mid thirties.
- 1:13:02Speaker 6: Yeah, they're not lying about it, so they're just not
- 1:13:04Speaker 6: advertising it right now, right so.
- 1:13:07Speaker 2: That I mean, yeah, the Sun is also a big
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: forty nine or fan or has been. Yeah, but you
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: punk down nine point six billion dollars, you can probably
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: change your allegiance a little bit, I believe. So I
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: don't think that's too too big of a deal. What
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: are they gonna do. Are they gonna like film practice
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: and send it to the forty nine Ers facilities?
- 1:13:23Speaker 4: Come on, it's just and I do I okay.
- 1:13:26Speaker 6: I just have to say that I appreciate the true
- 1:13:28Speaker 6: allegiance that fans have here for their fanhood and no
- 1:13:33Speaker 6: no outsiders, no outsiders, no grifters, especially within our division.
- 1:13:38Speaker 4: But you have to at least give them a chance.
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Two five three? Come on, man, you don't think I
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: know my hometown stadium. Pitt plays its own stadium, not
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: the Steelers Stadium. Wrong, that's just wrong. They play at
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: high what it used to be called Hines and now
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: called Akroshuer Stadium. Is they tore down Pitt Stadium a
- 1:13:59Speaker 2: long time. It's now parking garage on the campus. What
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: I don't mind Erota and I don't mind taking personal accountability.
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: When I'm wrong and I say something mistated, I say so.
- 1:14:08Speaker 6: But come on, man, we had a whole argument about
- 1:14:13Speaker 6: Pittsburgh last week because apparently.
- 1:14:15Speaker 4: I trust it.
- 1:14:17Speaker 6: Okay, we have to get this talk back in because
- 1:14:19Speaker 6: we have one more really good one.
- 1:14:22Speaker 10: Hey, hello again, it's me, my friend. I just commenting
- 1:14:27Speaker 10: on what Greg said. I wholeheartedly believe that this ownership
- 1:14:32Speaker 10: group is here for the right thing and the right reason.
- 1:14:36Speaker 10: I mean, if something is successful, you don't not put
- 1:14:39Speaker 10: money into it. If it's failing, then obviously you're not
- 1:14:42Speaker 10: gonna put money into it. You see a product that's
- 1:14:46Speaker 10: doing something that's succeeding.
- 1:14:51Speaker 6: But I mean, I think he was gonna continue, but
- 1:14:55Speaker 6: he sounded like he was on a loan number. Probably
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: he was focusing on the road slash the lawn and
- 1:15:03Speaker 6: couldn't look at his phone to see that the countdown
- 1:15:05Speaker 6: clock was coming on.
- 1:15:06Speaker 4: But I I do like this sentiment.
- 1:15:08Speaker 6: And just like we said, these are business people that
- 1:15:13Speaker 6: care about football. So if you're worried about their allegiances,
- 1:15:17Speaker 6: I just wouldn't be.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: Yeah, the grass fields at Arizona and Vegas have really
- 1:15:22Speaker 2: helped those team win.
- 1:15:23Speaker 4: Oh wait, okay, well, that's not the field.
- 1:15:27Speaker 2: That's a lot of a lot of problems. They got
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: a lot of problems in those two franchisees, that's for sure.
- 1:15:34Speaker 6: I do have to say hi before we go to
- 1:15:37Speaker 6: break to Jeremy Jeremy, who I got to meet in
- 1:15:40Speaker 6: person at Ian's mayor of the Maple Belly Tournament. Yes,
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: but I was just a first time for a long time,
- 1:15:52Speaker 6: very far removed from handing out raffle tickets. And he
- 1:15:55Speaker 6: bought some, which is amazing because you notated to three
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: amazing causes me.
- 1:16:00Speaker 4: Jeremy and he.
- 1:16:02Speaker 6: Wanted to buy some and I handed some and I'm like,
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: I think we put these over here. But it was
- 1:16:07Speaker 6: one of those raffles where you actually put the tickets
- 1:16:11Speaker 6: in the jars in front of what you want to
- 1:16:15Speaker 6: But I thought it.
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: Was like a fifty to fifty situation.
- 1:16:17Speaker 6: So I was ready to take half of them.
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: No, I was wrong.
- 1:16:21Speaker 6: He talked me through it and he goes, hey, what's up.
- 1:16:24Speaker 4: I'm Jeremy, and I was like, wait, Jeremy.
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: Jeedy, you're Jeremy.
- 1:16:28Speaker 4: You're Jeremy Jeremy.
- 1:16:30Speaker 6: And so I want to say for all of the
- 1:16:33Speaker 6: listeners that I got to meet out there. Ian is
- 1:16:36Speaker 6: always puts his heart and soul into it. It was
- 1:16:38Speaker 6: such an amazing time. I got to talk to a
- 1:16:41Speaker 6: lot of very very special listeners to this station, and
- 1:16:46Speaker 6: everyone is pretty awesome. So thank you for being out there,
- 1:16:49Speaker 6: and thank you for shaking my hand. If I got
- 1:16:51Speaker 6: the opportunity, that's great.
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: I'm glad you were there. We get Ian to talk
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: about that next two quick quick text on the two
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: of six, do what Atlanta does for the fans and
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: lower concession prices. That would be a popular move from
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: the new owners of the sea. Hiks, Oh my god,
- 1:17:06Speaker 2: what go ahead?
- 1:17:07Speaker 6: I was just gonna say, because I fly Alaska a
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: lot and they told me that like lowering things by
- 1:17:12Speaker 6: five cents. I mean, this is a global organization and everything,
- 1:17:17Speaker 6: but if they just cut a tiny little thing, it's
- 1:17:20Speaker 6: like a billion dollar saving. So could you imagine taking
- 1:17:23Speaker 6: like a dollar off of beer at Seahawks.
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: However, they are billionaires, yes they are that.
- 1:17:30Speaker 6: I feel like they could make some back on the
- 1:17:32Speaker 6: back end by doing that.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: Two six. What new business owner comes in after a
- 1:17:36Speaker 2: new purchase and doesn't put their fingerprint on the business.
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: You're a delusional if you don't think the new owner
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: isn't going to change anything. Correct, there will be changes.
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: We'll see what they are. Yeah, it just better not
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: be football or else they have done it wrong. End's
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: up next talking about a great, great, great great event
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: that he had benefiting multiple people, and more on what
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: his show is going to be today on ninety three
- 1:17:57Speaker 2: point three KJRFM. Welcome back Greg Bell, Jasin McIntyre with

- 1:18:24Speaker 2: week the Open Championship. Some people call it the British Open,
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: but the British don't like that. Nobody on the aisle
- 1:18:31Speaker 2: likes that it's the Open. And we have our major
- 1:18:34Speaker 2: Open Golf Challenge. Go to ninety three to three KJR

- 1:18:55Speaker 2: two month membership at the Golf Academy around a four
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: for golf at Gamble Sands. Speaking of golf, our man
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: he in finance, the Mayor Maple Valley had the Mayor
- 1:19:04Speaker 2: Maple Valley Open the invitation of the charity event golf tournament.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: That was absolutely fantastic once again on Friday. Yeah, graduates,
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: thank you, Yeah, I appreciate. We had a good time.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: We had really a lot of people out there and
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: a lot of money raise a lot of thank yous
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: coming over the next few weeks to all our sponsors
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: and and so on and so forth. So yeah, it
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: was it was a fun, fun afternoon. Couldn't ask for
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: better weather, which was nice. That's always a cool thing.
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: And you know, we, like I said, a lot, a
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: lot of thank yous coming up. I'll just I'll just
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: shout out the three big sports teams in town, the Mariners,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Seahawks and Cracking are all big, big supporters in a sense.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: They they they get asked to do a lot of
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: stuff and I'm always humble when they help us out
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: a little bit and that helps us raise some more
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: money for some great causes. So thank you to Chuck Arnold,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: Kevin Martinez, and Todd Lai Wicki because you guys, even
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: if you don't always agree with what we say on
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: the air, you're very good in terms of helping out
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: in the community. So I appreciate them along with everybody
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: else we'll talk about.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: Since you mentioned Chuck Arnold, what do you anticipate might
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: change on the business side of the city. I think
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: that's the great unknown.
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: I think that's a great I know, I don't think
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: the panic about any concern about football is to me
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: is this isn't Ken Bearing bringing in Tom Floores and
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: firing Mike McCormick and Chuck Knox. This is this is
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: a different deal. So I don't think worry about the
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: football side. I guess with the business side, there'll probably
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: be a little bit of concern, But then I would
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: if I was. You know, none of us can put
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: are put us in those shoes of being a billionaire.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: But all you have to do is look and see
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: how the organization has been run on and off the field.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: And I think it's safe to say, you just it
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: should be status quo, right, it should be status quo.
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: You're buying already made product.
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: So yeah, other than the people they'll bring from their organization, maybe.
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: Mean I mean it's I do think. I do hope
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: that people that are smart enough to have the success
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: that this new ownership group has had, this family has
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: had in business. I do hope that they're smart enough
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: to realize that sports are very different than a regular business.
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: And having worked for a number of sports teams in
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: a variety of roles, it's just different. It just as
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: different and there's no need and you bring in people
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: with an experience in pro sports, I think it's always
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: a big mistake, just a really really big mistake. So
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: hopefully they don't do that. You figure, if they're billionaires,
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: they're probably smart enough.
- 1:21:25Speaker 2: To with.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: They didn't win the they didn't win the power ball exactly.
- 1:21:31Speaker 2: They didn't get their money with the powerball. Buddy, they've
- 1:21:34Speaker 2: got I think seven degrees between the three of them.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: Yeah, they all from Stanford, six of them from Stanford. Yeah,
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: they didn't win the power ball and get their money.
- 1:21:42Speaker 1: I think they did it the right way. So that's
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: what it seems like. Mollywopping today, Mollywopping at one. Yeah, boy,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: what a difference a week makes five and one week
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: to a one in five week stumbling into the break.
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: So yeah, we got Molliwap today at one o'clock. Got
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: Pe von Reichbauer is going to join us. I can
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: County councilman. I'm sorry, I forget to mention that. Thank
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: you for stories. Yeah, Pete, pet von reichbar is gonna
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: join us at twelve thirty today. He was involved in
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: the Paul Allen sale back in ninety seven and some
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: good insight on what to expect and what to think
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: and also where we are with stadium and all those things.
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: So always been a big proponent of sports, as Pete Ben.
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: He tried desperately behind the scenes to keep the Sonics
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: here on the twelve hour. I say behind the scenes,
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: not to his own political benefit. Behind the scenes didn't
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: work obviously, between that Mariner sale things like that. He's
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: always been involved and so we'll check in with him
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: coming up at twelve thirty.
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: The women field leies runs through twenty thirty and then
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: their ten year options after that. M sure mister b
- 1:22:40Speaker 2: will talk about that infinasill join you at Molly wappin
- 1:22:43Speaker 2: Mariners and Seahawks sale news for the next three hours
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: from twelve until three. Greg and Jessman joining you again
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: tomorrow ten to noons. Thanks for listening, We'll do it
- 1:22:51Speaker 2: again tomorrow. Ninety three point three KJRFM
