- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So we are finally blessed with having the leaves change color.
- 0:34It's hard to believe that we are into November and we still have
- 0:39so many green leaves and so many trees still have not changed
- 0:43because the weather's been so warm.
- 0:45However, we are finally getting the leaves to change color.
- 0:49And for me, this, this is such a profound.
- 0:52I love fall just because it's such a clean up time on the farm
- 0:57and I get to go through. And I think it's hardwired into
- 1:00me from my mother because she was always so into fall cleaning
- 1:03and spring cleaning. It was such a big deal for her.
- 1:06She would constantly talk about doing that and she would change
- 1:10the curtains in the house and we always had different curtains
- 1:14going up. I think that's why I don't like
- 1:15curtains, quite honestly. But we always had the cleaning
- 1:19aspect. And that I love, I love being
- 1:22able to just jump in and clean things and get everything
- 1:24beautiful and organized. And it just makes me feel
- 1:28wonderful to have that happen. And the leaves changing
- 1:32represent that, but they also represent something else.
- 1:35And I, I think this is what's so important when you use the tree
- 1:38as a metaphor, because we look at trees and they're kind of
- 1:43like in our world, but we don't pay attention to them.
- 1:46Like we unless something happens in one falls and we have to deal
- 1:49with it or we are really like obsessed with trees.
- 1:53I have to be admit I'm a bit obsessed with trees.
- 1:55And we watch them transform and change and see, you know, what
- 1:59it is about the trees that look different over time.
- 2:02So we're very blessed to live near live oaks and live oaks,
- 2:07you know, they, they're phototropic.
- 2:10So when they have more space, they spread out wide and they're
- 2:13very, very beautiful as they do this.
- 2:15So on the farm, as my husband has cultivated, getting rid of
- 2:19trees that will impede that are impeding the progress of the
- 2:23live oaks, We've watched them grow and expand and they're
- 2:25beautiful. Now they don't lose all of their
- 2:27leaves. They only lose some of them in
- 2:30the in the winter, but not all of them.
- 2:33And purposefully, they just not, it's not something that
- 2:39naturally they do. So watching them, you can see
- 2:43them transform from season to season, but you really have to
- 2:46look for it. And what I love about that is
- 2:49that it makes you be aware of the process and it makes you
- 2:53stop and see how each season brings something different to
- 2:56the tree. Each season gives something
- 2:59different. And it doesn't even have to just
- 3:01be a Live Oak, but when you look at a regular tree, a deciduous
- 3:04tree that loses its leaves, you watch it as it goes from this
- 3:08state of looking dead in the winter to to getting these
- 3:11beautiful bright buds. And then these leaves that come
- 3:14out that are this glorious shade of bright spring green.
- 3:19And then they start to darken over time as they sit out in the
- 3:22sun. And then they start to transform
- 3:25into their colors over the fall. And then they shower us with it.
- 3:30That's how I see it in my head. They shower us with color
- 3:32visually, and then they fall on the ground showering us with
- 3:36their beautiful colors. And think about it.
- 3:39We people drive from far and near to go see the leaves change
- 3:42because it's such a phenomenon. And guess what?
- 3:46The tree isn't dead. The tree is not dead.
- 3:49The tree is just putting on its show.
- 3:51It's just going through its seasons very much like human
- 3:55beings do. So we have to know what season
- 3:59we're in, and we're going to work accordingly and say, OK, my
- 4:04leaves are just in bright color right now.
- 4:06I'm putting on the show. And then guess what?
- 4:08I'm going to need to rest. And here's the tricky part.
- 4:11This does not have to be a year in process.
- 4:14You could be taking that metaphor of the tree and using
- 4:18that in the course of a month, two months, it doesn't matter.
- 4:21Just because the seasons are in specific seasons calendar wise,
- 4:27it does not mean that we have to be that way.
- 4:29We can be in a different place. So some of my chickens right now
- 4:34are molting and some of them are not the younger ones have not
- 4:37molted yet because it takes they're, they're not even a year
- 4:40old. So it takes usually like before
- 4:42you see a really hard molt like 18 months.
- 4:44So some of them look absolutely gorgeous right now and some of
- 4:48them look absolutely homeless, terrible beat up chickens.
- 4:52But the process of that, they're each in their own season, yet
- 4:56we're in a calendar year where it's fall.
- 4:58So don't get hung up on the time.
- 5:00Get hung up on what you want, get hung up on where you are.
- 5:04Read the clues, focus on it and say to yourself, OK, this is
- 5:08where I am right now and I'm traversing through this very
- 5:11well. Going to the other side.
- 5:15Be patient with yourself and just watch it and learn from it
- 5:18and say, OK, and you can even timeline this.
- 5:21This is actually a fun exercise. If you want to timeline a month
- 5:24and say, OK, there are four weeks in a month.
- 5:27I can timeline each week so I can get things done and then the
- 5:30last week I can rest of the month, or I can sit back and
- 5:34enjoy and recoup the rewards of what I've done.
- 5:38So think of it that way. All right, my friends, I hope
- 5:41you have a blessed day and I'll see you tomorrow.
- 5:42Bye.
