- 0:08Speaker 1: Now we turn to the breath At Advocate to read
- 0:10news from Jackson and Breathett County. Your reader today is Matt.
- 0:15We will begin with the addition dated January twenty eighth,
- 0:18twenty twenty six, which has been donated to Radio Eye
- 0:21by the publisher as a reminder. Radio EI is reading

- 0:28disabilities that make it difficult to read printed material. Winter
- 0:34storm fern paralyzes Breathitt County. The county was paralyzed over
- 0:39a winter storm that brought freezing rain to much of
- 0:42the state this weekend. After a snow, sleet, and freezing
- 0:46rain covered the area. The precipitation began falling on Saturday,
- 0:51January twenty fourth and ended on Monday morning. Snowfall amounts
- 0:55of two to four inches, followed by under a half
- 0:58inch of ice and freezing rain. Closed roads, caused widespread
- 1:02power outages and down many trees. Flooding was also reported
- 1:07in parts of the county. As of Sunday, American Electric
- 1:11Power reported over five hundred customers without power, while Licking
- 1:15Valley R E c C reported nearly eight hundred. On Monday,
- 1:20January twenty sixth, a e P was reporting two hundred
- 1:24seventy two customers without power, while l v R E
- 1:27c C was reporting all customers power had been restored.
- 1:32Over two hundred of the homes without power were in
- 1:35the Highway twenty eight area, where a line stamped in
- 1:38the Bowlings Creek area, causing a fire to ignite in
- 1:41the hills. Trees fell all over the county, with Highway
- 1:45two O five being completely blocked on Sunday. High Water
- 1:50was reported in the Highway thirty West and South Fork areas.
- 1:54Warming centers were opened around the county at community fire departments,
- 1:58as well as in the city at the Fire Department
- 2:01and courthouse. Schools. Medical clinics, businesses, and stores were closed
- 2:06during the storm due to dangerous traveling conditions and limited staff.
- 2:11Temperatures were in the single digits and near zero and
- 2:14are expected to remain under freezing for several days, which
- 2:17will restrict melting of the frozen precipitation. No injuries or
- 2:21deaths were reported in the county due to the storm.
- 2:25Also on the front page, new Vocational School and Transportation
- 2:29Department opens Brethett County Schools has announced that the Maintenance Department,
- 2:35Technology Department central Storage and Vocational school are now serving
- 2:39the district from the modern facility located at sixty five
- 2:43Industry Road. This well equipped space includes dedicated work areas, offices,
- 2:49and equipment lifts, allowing these essential departments to work efficiently
- 2:52and effectively in support of the schools. The facility represents
- 2:57more than more progress and represents a resilience. The twenty
- 3:01twenty two flood claimed the previous home of these departments,
- 3:05creating significant challenges. From that loss came opportunity, resulting in
- 3:10a stronger, safer, and more functional facility designed to meet
- 3:14the long term needs of our school system. A grand
- 3:17opening is being planned for the future. Fire destroys home

- 3:49hours to extinguish the fire, which proved to be a
- 3:52challenge due to the extremely cold temperatures. The home was
- 3:55a total loss. Two apparatus and ten fire personnel responded
- 3:59to the call. No injuries were reported, and the cause

- 7:36singer born in New York on January twenty fifth, nineteen
- 7:40eighty one. I studied Mozart and Chopin as a youth
- 7:44and graduated from the Professional Performing Arts School. I became
- 7:48the first singer to receive five Grammy Awards at once
- 7:51after releasing my debut album Who Am I? Life on
- 7:57the Old Dirt Road by Bobby Thorpe There's nothing to
- 8:01do growing up on the Old Dirt Road. I always
- 8:05found something to do and was never bored. Many days
- 8:09were spent exploring the creek beds looking for different rocks.
- 8:12I always loved waiting in the creek and catching crawdads
- 8:15and fish. On other days, I would explore the hills
- 8:19and see different animals, trees, and leaves. Also in the hills,
- 8:23remnants from my parents childhood could be found. Old riven
- 8:26wire leading to old TV antennas on the rocky tops
- 8:29of the hills could be found. I can remember as
- 8:32a child walking up the hill with Dad to adjust
- 8:34the antenna for a better TV signal. The TV signal
- 8:38was always fuzzy, but we made do. Also, when the
- 8:42TV line would break from a fallen tree, Dad and
- 8:45I would simply twist the wire back together. My dad
- 8:48and uncles also had old antennas in the hills for
- 8:51their c bee base stations. On other days, I would
- 8:55visit my aunts, uncles, and grandparents and learn a lot
- 8:58about their younger years. The bookmobile from the local library
- 9:03would visit the neighborhood every two weeks during the summer,
- 9:06which would allow us to check out books to read.
- 9:09My brother and I always had fun rebuilding old bicycles
- 9:12and fixing them up into choppers and unique rides. We
- 9:16also had animals such as chickens, ducks, rabbits, and dogs
- 9:20to play with and tend to. We enjoyed shooting pop
- 9:23cans with BB guns and slingshots. We always had fun
- 9:27when I was a child and never complained of nothing
- 9:30to do. Life was good on the old dirt road.

- 9:57two singles, including four that went to number one. Those
- 10:01were how Your Love Makes Me Feel in nineteen seventy seven,
- 10:04One More Day two thousand one, Beautiful Mess two thousand two,
- 10:08and I Believe two thousand and three. They have recorded
- 10:12nine studio albums, four Greatest Hits compilations, and an album
- 10:17of Christmas music. Three of their albums were certified platinum
- 10:21by the Recording Industry Association of America, which means they
- 10:24sold one million copies each. They received four Group of
- 10:29the Year awards from the Country Music Association, two Top
- 10:32Vocal Group Awards from the Academy of Country Music, and
- 10:36one Grammy. Their sound was originally defined as mainstream country, bluegrass,
- 10:41and rock, but later albums drew more influences from Christian
- 10:45country music and pop. Some of their songs were abobb
- 10:48a Hyde, Meet in the Middle, I Believe, Love, a
- 10:52Little Stronger and My Favorite and God We Still Trust.
- 10:56They changed record labels and did a Christian album and
- 10:59were nominated for several Double Awards. They've been one of
- 11:02the few self contained bands to have followed the practice
- 11:04of playing their own instruments and seeing their own vocals
- 11:08on all their albums themselves without additional input from outside musicians.
- 11:13The only exception was the inclusion of string section with
- 11:16their later albums. They've had numerous members throughout the years.
- 11:20After a thirty three year journey, the band bid farewell
- 11:23to retiring members Brian Proust and Gene Johnson. They were
- 11:27replaced by Carson McKee fiddle and harmony vocals, She's a
- 11:31Lady and U K Graduate and Marcus Weinberg drums. Their
- 11:35first new song was Kick. We really enjoyed the concert,
- 11:39as I said, which was made possible by a dear
- 11:41friend giving us free tickets. Folks, it's been a pleasure
- 11:44having you all as followers of my COLU. However, all
- 11:47good things eventually come to an end, and mine is
- 11:50now Love you all, and I want to thank the
- 11:52breath Oft Advocate for giving me the opportunity to share
- 11:55the music trail. Always keep music going. Recipes with Kathy
- 12:01by Kathy Bay's Alberts. Here's a good recipe for these
- 12:04cold days. Chili concarne one large onion chopped, one pound
- 12:10ground beef, one half pound bulk pork sausage number two,
- 12:16canned tomatoes number two, can Guinney beans use two cans
- 12:21if desired. One to two tablespoons chili powder one half
- 12:26to two teaspoons of salt. First round the meat crumble
- 12:31with a fork, and then add the rest of the ingredients.
- 12:34Simmer for one hour. Talking pictures by Brian C. Combs,
- 12:40Taken directed by Pierre Morrell two thousand eight. Liam Neeson
- 12:45is the most unlikely action star of all time. Nissan
- 12:49stars as Brian Mills, a middle aged and retired CIA operative.
- 12:53Nisson is the very opposite of what we'd expect from
- 12:56an action star. He's older, lean, and unassuming. However, he
- 13:01does have a particular set of skills that will allow
- 13:03him to find you and kill you if you are
- 13:05stupid enough to kidnap his daughter. After reluctantly allowing his
- 13:09teenage daughter to go to Paris, Mills gets a frantic
- 13:11call from her. During the call, his daughter is abducted.
- 13:15Mills immediately goes to Paris to hunt down her kidnappers
- 13:17and rescue her. As a pharmacy IA operative, he knows
- 13:21he's racing against the clock and needs to find her
- 13:23soon or shall be gone forever. Brian Mills isn't interested
- 13:27in playing games, and he isn't against killing those standing
- 13:30in his way from finding his daughter. He kills in
- 13:33the quickest and most efficient ways possible. He even slices
- 13:37one guy's throat with a metal serving tray. Taken reinvented
- 13:41leam Nisson's career and introduced him to the action genre,
- 13:44a genre he's still active in almost twenty years later. Also,
- 13:48every one who has a coffee mug that says world's
- 13:50best dad is a liar, because the one true greatest
- 13:53dad is Brian Mills. See you at the Movies from

- 14:04how old fashioned fun is making a comeback and a
- 14:08new social media trend. Gen Z and others are taking
- 14:11up hobbies like gardening, knitting, and crocheting all the name
- 14:15of quote analog wellness. And that's only the beginning. Grandma
- 14:20hobbies can also include knitting, crocheting, bird watching, bird house building,
- 14:25paint by numbers, jigsaw puzzles, reading print books, baking, gardening,
- 14:29and so much more. Any of these hobbies is a
- 14:32fantastic way to unwind, take a tech break, spark creativity,
- 14:36and encourage social connections, all of which can improve your
- 14:40mental health. I have long recognized the importance of engaging
- 14:44in a hobby for one's overall well being. This includes art, music,
- 14:48and writing. Some say there's nothing to do around here,
- 14:52but that's not true if you put forth some thought
- 14:54and effort. Recently, I visited a local retail store that
- 14:57offers items at very affordable prices. They have rows of
- 15:01arts and crafts items. Some of the items on display
- 15:04include a wide variety of stickers, wooden decorative items, various paints,
- 15:08brushes of different sizes, paper of all kinds, markers, stencils,
- 15:12glitter and foam craft kits, all of which could be
- 15:15used in various arts and crafts endeavors. Sketch books, a
- 15:19variety of drawing papers, and even canvases of different sizes
- 15:23were on the shelves. Sketching, drawing with colored pencils and markers,
- 15:27painting with water colors, and even coloring books for all
- 15:30ages were all available for artistic endeavors. In the area
- 15:34of music, how about picking up that old guitar collecting
- 15:37dust in the corner. Of course, many other musical instruments
- 15:40can be played and enjoyed. Writing poems, songs, and short
- 15:44stories as an excellent outlet for creativity. Please don't let
- 15:48what you perceive as a lack of skill prevent you
- 15:50from engaging in these activities. Focus on having fun and relaxing.
- 15:55The keys to engage in activities that are relaxing and enjoyable.
- 16:00Osbeit by Pastor Naomi, who are you serving? As I
- 16:04was doing my Bible reading in Exodus this week about
- 16:07the ten plagues of Egypt, I was amazed at all
- 16:10the nature gods the Egyptian people were serving. The plagues
- 16:14were ten disasters sent upon Egypt by God to convince
- 16:17Pharaoh to free the Israelite slaves from bondage and oppression
- 16:21they had endured in Egypt. When God sent Moses to
- 16:24deliver the children of Israel from bondage in Egypt, he
- 16:27promised to show his wonders as confirmation of Moses' authority
- 16:31Exodus three twenty. This confirmation was to serve at least
- 16:35two purposes, to show the Israelites that the God of
- 16:38their fathers was alive and worthy of their worship. Exodus
- 16:42six six through eight and twelve twenty five through twenty seven,
- 16:46and to show the Egyptians that their gods were nothing
- 16:49Exodus seventy five, twelve twelve and numbers thirty three four.
- 16:55It's amazing how God showed them, through the plagues of
- 16:57their nature, gods of flies, frogs, at sains, et cetera,
- 17:00that they were no match for the one and only
- 17:02true God of Heaven. I encourage you to read about
- 17:05the amazing grace of God and how far He will
- 17:08go to redeem a people back to him. And God
- 17:11spoke all these words saying, I am the Lord thy God,
- 17:15which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt,
- 17:17out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no
- 17:20other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee
- 17:23any graven image or any likeness of anything that is
- 17:27in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath,
- 17:30or that is in the water under the earth. Thou
- 17:32shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them.
- 17:36For I, the Lord thy God, am a jealous God,
- 17:38visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto
- 17:42the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,
- 17:44and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me
- 17:47and keep my commandments. Exodus twenty one through six. First
- 17:52Timothy two five says, for there is one God, and
- 17:55there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ, Jesus.
- 18:00Isaiah forty five twenty one twenty two says, and there
- 18:03is no other God besides me, a righteous God and
- 18:06a savior. There is none besides me. Turn to me
- 18:09and be saved all the ends of the earth. For
- 18:12I am God, and there is no other. First Corinthians
- 18:15six eight six says, Yet for us there is one God,
- 18:19the Father, from whom all are all things, and for
- 18:22whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom
- 18:25all things are, through whom we exist. Revelation one eight.
- 18:30I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God,
- 18:33who is and who was, and who is to come,
- 18:35the Almighty. Matthew six twenty four says. No one can
- 18:39serve two masters, for either he will hate the one
- 18:41and love the other, or he will be devoted to
- 18:44one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
- 18:49What you put before God, has it become a stumbling
- 18:51block that hinders you. Surrendered to the Lord. Think about it, amen,
- 18:56so be it. Legislative update from Senator Brandon Smith. The
- 19:02second week of the legislative session is wrapped up and
- 19:05things are moving fast here in Frankfort. We've hit the
- 19:08ground running, with new bills being filed every day and
- 19:11several already advancing through committee and off the Senate floor.
- 19:15Although the crafting of a budget proposal has begun in
- 19:17the House, I'm continuing to meet with our local officials
- 19:20and county judges and executives to ensure the top priorities
- 19:23in the thirtieth to thirtieth district are secured. I have
- 19:27more to come on this draft legislation, Jaden's Law. This session,
- 19:32I'll introduce a bill known as Jaden's Law. The proposal
- 19:36is named in memory of ten year old Jaden Spicer,
- 19:39whose tragic death last year deeply affected our region. As
- 19:43a father of six, and as someone who personally joined
- 19:46the search for Jaden, I felt a responsibility to act.
- 19:50When I was approached with a draft idea from a Kentuckian,
- 19:53Joe Clark, who had followed the case closely, I knew
- 19:56we needed to move forward. Jaden's Law will strengthen child
- 19:59Protection stat We're not telling parents how to raise their children,
- 20:03but we are making it clear that abuse is not tolerated.
- 20:06My goal is to make Kentucky a place where predators
- 20:09think twice. If you would harm a child, you should
- 20:12know that Kentucky will not look the other way. Jaden's
- 20:15Law is about drawing that line and enforcing it with
- 20:18strength and clarity. Returning to driver's license renewal services to
- 20:22county offices, one of the first bills to pass the
- 20:25Senate this year was Senate Bill seven. I supported the
- 20:28legislation because it brings basic government services back to the communities,
- 20:32the communities that need them most. Folks in rural Kentucky
- 20:36should not have to drive across multiple counties just to
- 20:39renew their driver's license. This has been a consistent problem
- 20:42heard across our region. Senate Bill seven allows counties without
- 20:46a regional licensing office to restore these services locally through
- 20:50their clerk, sheriff, judge executive, or circuit clerk. These are
- 20:55your local elected officials, the ones who are accountable to you.
- 20:59The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet would provide the equipment, and counties
- 21:03could partner together if needed. A twenty five dollars convenience
- 21:07fee would help local offices cover staffing and overhead. Regional
- 21:11offices will still be available for those who prefer that option.
- 21:14This is about local options, better access, and delivering government
- 21:18services in a more practical way. Freezing property taxes for seniors.
- 21:24I was happy to sign on as a co sponsor
- 21:27of Senate Bill fifty one, which would give voters the
- 21:30chance to approve a constitutional amendment to freeze the taxable
- 21:34value of a senior's home starting at age sixty five
- 21:37or the year they purchase it. With rising property values
- 21:41putting pressure on those living on fixed incomes, this measure
- 21:44helps protect seniors who've worked hard to stay in their homes.
- 21:48Looking ahead, my focus for the residents of our regent
- 21:52this session is affordability, and a key part of that
- 21:54is addressing rising utility rates. I'll soon be introducing priority
- 21:59legislation that I argue will be one of the most
- 22:01critical energy related bills that the legislature has ever considered.

- 22:47regular exercise can help protect your knees. Although it seems
- 22:50to be a common belief that running will ruin your knees,
- 22:53a number of emerging research studies report the contrary. A
- 22:56two decade long study conducted at Stanford University found that
- 23:00runners knees were no more or less healthy than non
- 23:03runners knees. In fact, research has shown that individuals who
- 23:08exercise regularly, partaking in activities like walking or running, actually
- 23:12tend to have thicker, healthier knee cartilage compared to their
- 23:15sedentary counterparts. This leads researchers to the conclusion that regular
- 23:19exercise can actually help to protect knees, as opposed to
- 23:22destroy them. Studies have shown, however, that proper mechanics and
- 23:26strength training, along with an appropriate warm up and cool
- 23:29down are crucial to minimizing the risk of injury and
- 23:32reducing the likelihood of developing knee related issues such as osteoarthritis.
