- Jaba: Hello everybody and welcome back to the Scout and the Speculator Podcast. This is Will Jarvis, also known as Jabba Cards. Joined as always by my co-host, Jeremy Brown of Perfect Game Baseball, more importantly known as JGB underscore cards underscore. And we are back with another AFL Daily Recap. some nice performances yesterday. We're gonna get right into it. Jeremy, you wanna take a first game? You got one pulled up, or do you want me to Jheremy: I'm gonna save you from it and I'll just take the desert dogs. I'll lay on the sword. they lost again. They're now two and eleven for being our top ranked team heading into the season. Tate Salithine went Ofer with two punches. Bonimer went Ofer with one punchy. Davlon did get a hit. We liked that. He he did something, so also worth mentioning any of the hits here, they're all singles. We had no extra base hits of the well, they only had four hits. So Johnny Severino did d walk twice. He's still batting under 200, but his stuff is way up. Wyatt Sanford, 0 for 4 with a punchy. Kobe Shelton, he is color only. Had two hits. Go figure. The guy that the guy that produces the guy that's color only. Max Williams, 0 for 3, 2 punches, hitting a robust 107 right now. Isaiah Drake, one for four. Got one, two punches, 207. Eason Carmichael, 0 for 3, no strikeouts. But his OPS is about half of what Wellbound Francisco's batting average is with a three ninety mark. So there's all there's Jaba: Not great. Jheremy: all that. Brooks Auger got the start. He is color only. I believe that is the only arm of Bowman. He let up three earned, two strikeouts, over three innings, three hits. And his ERA is approaching seven. flip side, Salt River Rafters, Dax Kilby continues to be a thing. two for four, Jaba: Months. Jheremy: two runs, had a double. Seems like you're hearing about him a lot more, but for a guy who's only hitting two ninety, but he is OPSing six n nine sixty-four. Again, that comes with the territory being, you know, Yankees Tax, Yankees Prospect. Demetrio Crissantes had another hit. He I say another, but like he's kind of slumping right now. He's contact first, two hundred seventy overpower with a seven thirteen, but you know what? We'll take it. And it's worth mentioning both of Kilby's hits were both extra base hits, a double and a triple. next up is Kyle DeBarge. Had a one for three. That one home run, that one hit being a home run inside the park still counts for the OPS. Ten sixty-nine there. who's that? Jared Thomas? One for four with two punches. Left fielder, he was in center field the other day. Yasura Mercedes is out in center field, went two for four with a pair of RBIs. Dust those ones off. He's hitting three ten with a ten ten seven OPS. kind of go down it all. There ain't much else in that lineup, but like their their nine hole hitter is would be by far the best statistical guy on on the the old desert dog, so go figure. No, Jaba: Not even saying that much. Jheremy: like honestly, Caleb Bonomer's hitting two eighty two for by far, and I know if we're just looking at batting averages. There is one, two, three, four, five, six guys hitting higher than the better better batting average than the desert dog's top guy. So there's that. Sean Sullivan, good to see him back. Five strikeouts over three innings. No hit baseball one hit baseball, no earned runs, no runs at all. When he has a performance like that in his ER race still at a five nineteen, that lets you know he did have a couple stinkers at the beginning, but he's getting there, Connor Foley, two walks. And his one inning of work, two walks, one hit. We do not like that for a whip. And is that? that's Fidel Yulola out of Juco. worth mentioning also Jared Thomas picked up his first triple of the year last night. And that more or less is the rundown of the Desert Doggies and the Salt River Rafters. Jaba: Yeah. More more disappointment from the dogs, but We'll see if they can pull it together. They got what, like twenty, twenty-five regular season games left, so hopefully some guys can at least show some life. Obviously the wins and losses don't really matter, but would like Jheremy: At all. Yeah. Jaba: to see more from some of the big names. Over to the SolarSocks and the Segueros. Jheremy: Mm. Jaba: thankfully none of these Segueros pitchers are Bowman guys. At least looking at it briefly, because they walked fourteen hitters yesterday. Jheremy: Nice. Jaba: for the Solar Sox. Bowler Socks, the one through seven in the lineup, all had two walks, save for Arjun Namala. Go figure. Namala actually went 0 for 5 with a walk. Probably his worst game yet. OPS still at 988. Antonio Anderson with a triple, pushing the OPS to eleven eighty eight in a one for three day. Also had a pair of walks there. So he remains very, very hot. Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: Aaron Parker, the diminutive older catcher in the Jheremy: Mm. Jaba: Lujay system. Two for three with a Homer. He's hitting 583 with a 1521 OPS. I don't think he's been playing all that much. Jheremy: I don't think Jaba: He played Jheremy: so. Jaba: he played left field in this one. just kinda interesting to see there. obviously great results, even if it's a small sample. Jake Monroe, 0 for 2 with a pair of walks. OPS still sitting at a very nice 975. Cade Snell didn't do much of anything. Pair of walks, nothing else. And that really wraps it up for the Solar Sox. Is Dominic Reed a Cubs color-only guy? Jheremy: Color only, yep. Jaba: Yeah, well he went he went four shutout to start the game. One hit, one walk, five K's. Kenya Jheremy: Yep. Jaba: Huggins also pitched pretty nicely, one and two thirds. Allowed I don't I don't know how but yeah, one hit, one walk, one earned three Ks. that that was pretty much it on that side of the box score. Següero's side was much quieter. Zion Rose, two for four. Parake's, but he's still hitting over three hundred, OPS over a thousand. He did get picked off, which is interesting. But you Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: know, he's he's playing great and again You know, the Bowman draft guys, like we've said, we have a lot more info on them at the time of Bowman draft release. But for Zion Rose, it's nice to see some extra data to feel good about him. Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: I was looking at his baseball reference page last night. Looked like he missed a good chunk of this season in college at Louisville, for injury. So nice to see him getting extra reps and really making the most out of them. Well been Francisco, rare for three, dropped the batting average all the way down to 552. two walks, so Jheremy: Michael. Jaba: he's still impacting the game even when he can't get a hit. Sebastian Walcott, 0 for 3 with an R RBI and a walk. It must have been bases loaded walk or sack fly. Aiden Miller also 0 for 4, but again, OPS still a little bit above 1100. Cole Mathis 0 for 4. Drops the OPS to 523. Really not great there. And Dante Nori continues to not do a 0 Jheremy: Mm. Jaba: for 2. He walked twice, but obviously. Obviously you'd kind of expect a little bit more, especially after he played quite nicely against older competition in the WBC. I know that that competition did vary pretty wildly. I mean there's there's some great teams and then there's some teams with really nobody. But he did play well. This year was pretty disappointing, and the AFL isn't isn't treating him too kindly. So Jheremy: Hmm. Jaba: that's that's pretty much it from that game. Jheremy: I was I was looking out of just curiosity. I wanted to know the year that Kenya Huggins was from in Bowman. And there's a true goal just sitting there for fourteen ninety nine. OBO. Like it's there, but I don't know Jaba: Yeah. Jheremy: that I'd advise anybody to go in and grabbing it, so all that said, I where did my other game go? There it is. Alright, last game. Scorpions and the javelinas. I always end up with the javelinas. five runs on ten hits, zero runs for your scorpions, two, seven walks. Obviously, the highlight here is Ty Pete. Tripled. four for four on the day, two runs, a walk. Hopefully, you guys bought him because we certainly didn't. Hitting 361 with a 1091 OPS. Jaba: But we did tell you to. Jheremy: He had two doubles and a triple. Like, yeah, we told you to. We just didn't buy any. Ike Irish, 0 for 1. Got replaced. Hopefully, that's not an injury. He had one at bat and then Mr. Ike E-I-K-E. Not to be confused with Ike Irish went two for four in his replacement. kind of going down, Carlos Sanchez had an 0 for 5 day. He is color only, two strikeouts, a Cincinnati Reds kid. And you know what? We haven't talked about Boston Smith much, but there really hasn't been much to talk about there. Brandon Buttersworth drew a couple of walks. Ty Harvey had a one for four day, not doing much offensively. Flip it over, you got the bigger names with not a lot of production this game. Rayner 0 for two, two strikeouts hitting a buck 60 with a 454 OPS. Nathan Flewelling had an O for 333 on the year 766. Would like to see him starting to get into some power here at any point. Doesn't have one yet. two for four day for Zaire. Braylon Payne had a hit. Dakota Jordan had a hit. Also a couple of strikeouts for Payne and a punchy for the other two. Neymar Ochoa, he went over three with another two strikeouts. One ninety four average but a six nineteen OPS. Eric Batanti had a two for three day. Which in Caden Count one for four. So there's a lot of Bowman names. Everybody but the whole starting nine struck out at least once, so that's never a good thing. I mean we had twelve strikeouts to fourteen strikeouts on the entire thing, so boy. Patrick Patrick. Luke Holman, probably another arm. He had some had some pump, maybe some whatnot pump. I'm not sure. This year people started asking for him. Went four innings, five strikeouts. two hits allowed. Has thrown actually really well so far in the AFL. Jaba: He's a big kid too, right? Jheremy: Yeah, he's like 6'5. Went to LSU. Not saying you need to go find them and buy them, but if you have some, like monitor them, I would have I would say is the best way to describe it. Like just keep an eye on it. other than that, I mean, yeah, Typede is definitely the one there, in terms of like continues to boost his stock, I think. I would be curious to go into the stats and just kind of see what he's done for Jaba: While while you look into that, I will say just search search Dyke Irish's name on Twitter and he hasn't been mentioned in twenty four hours. Jheremy: Okay. Jaba: So as sparse as injury news can be, I think there would probably be at least a singular tweet. So Jheremy: There would have been something. Something. Yep. Jaba: I can't say that he's definitely okay, but I'd imagine Jheremy: Right, right. No. Jaba: it's a nothing burger, but we should check check the lineup tonight if you have any pieces of his. See if he's in there. Jheremy: I mean regardless, like Ike probably could have been a buy pre AFL. People kinda forgot about him, hitting three fifty three with a nine eighty OPS. He's done really well. don't really have to go into all of it with him. He's he's doing what people fell in love with when Draft was out when he was going, then he got kinda dinged and seems like people kinda forgot about him. They went from asking about him all the time to just really not. also wanna add that Type Pete stole a pair of bases. So that's a good thing. Jaba: Just pouring that gravy on top of the profile. Jheremy: What I also don't like, and I'll bring it up, but man, they were running all over Nathan Flewelling last night. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven bases off of So Jaba: Did he get a single guy? Jheremy: caught stealings are at a zero. So yikes. We're gonna go over seven there. We're just gonna blame the pitcher on all of them for working on their Jaba: Low to the plate. Jheremy: Exactly. We're doing high leg lifts with guys on first. Some of could have been like double steals, I guess. Let's go with that. Jaba: That's that's good insight though. I think that's something I wouldn't really think to to notice, but that's the that's the scout difference there. Jheremy: That's right, baby. But yeah, that's that's another night in the world of AFL. Jaba: Yeah, and I I know normally we don't really do a look ahead because the lineups change a lot and most of the pitchers are not exciting. But I will say across all three games there's one good starter going. In each of the three games tonight, the Javelinas have Tokoa Roby, who's been out of his Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: mind. going up against the desert dog. So probably not what that lineup needs to see if they've been flailing away against kinda no name pitchers. Jheremy: Yeah. Jaba: could be a good night for Tokoa Roby to continue to boost his stock. Then if you go into the Rafters Scorpions, we got Jarlin Susana on the mound for the Rafters. He got blown up pretty bad in his last start. Jheremy: Mm-hmm. Jaba: So would definitely be nice to see him pull things together there. And then in the last game, Segueros have Justin Lampkin on the bump. I think he also got lit up pretty good last Jheremy: You did. Yep. Jaba: time out. forget the exact line, but I remember it being pretty pretty ugly. So we'll be good to see all three of those pitchers. I think they're all real Bowman names. Takoarobi. He is kinda old, but Lampkin and Susana, definitely worth knowing. Roby, you should have on your radar. So we'll check back tomorrow. One of the few days we'll probably hope for a little less offense than usual to talk about. But Jheremy: That's right. Jaba: we we shall see there. And yeah, unless you got anything else, I think that wraps up today. Jheremy: That's a good wrap up. Jaba: Alright, we'll we'll be right back into it. another episode coming soon after this. We're gonna do an AFL, buy, sell, hold, and time. permitting, we will be doing a AFL hot sheet of sorts, just kind of reading through some leaderboards, talking about guys who are standing out. And yeah, we will talk to you guys soon. Thanks for listening as always and let's go Mets.
