- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garret.
- 0:07Speaker 2: All right, well, as promised, the entire interview we recorded
- 0:10Speaker 2: on Monday with Lou Urminello. But Lou, before we get
- 0:13Speaker 2: to all the NFL talking all that, My goodness, nine
- 0:17Speaker 2: hundred goals, Ovie has done it.
- 0:20Speaker 1: What are your thoughts, sir, Well, it's it's a it's
- 0:24Speaker 1: a number, Alex that I never thought could be a
- 0:26Speaker 1: hit watching hockey. And remember, you know from the from
- 0:33Speaker 1: eighty to to the late nineties, you know, the early
- 0:37Speaker 1: two thousands, it was an offensive league and there were
- 0:43Speaker 1: there were eight there were eight six scores, nine to
- 0:45Speaker 1: seven scores, UH in the UH in the Edmonton Oiler
- 0:51Speaker 1: New York Islander dynasty era, it was an offensive league.
- 0:54Speaker 1: So now the league is much different since o Vechkin
- 0:57Speaker 1: came in, and the fact that he was able to
- 0:59Speaker 1: hit a nine hundred goals is an absolutely amazing, incredible,
- 1:06Speaker 1: iconic achievement. I thought Mike Bossi was the best goal
- 1:09Speaker 1: scorer I ever saw, and he only played ten years
- 1:11Speaker 1: because of back injuries, and he scored five hundred and
- 1:15Speaker 1: seventy three goals in ten years. I didn't think that,
- 1:19Speaker 1: especially in this era where there's better goaltending, where there's
- 1:24Speaker 1: better defensive schemes that anybody would beat Wayne Gretzky's eight
- 1:31Speaker 1: hundred and ninety four goals, but he did it. He's
- 1:36Speaker 1: at nine hundred. This is the last year of his contract,
- 1:39Speaker 1: and there's a lot of speculation that he might hang
- 1:41Speaker 1: it up at the end of this year.
- 1:43Speaker 2: So in those leaked emails and leaked things that came
- 1:46Speaker 2: out of the capitols or front office or something like that,
- 1:48Speaker 2: is that what you're referring to, Louis.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Well, I wasn't referring to that, but you know, you
- 1:53Speaker 1: hear you. Hear other leaks throughout the National Hockey League.
- 1:57Speaker 1: I don't know why he would retire. He loves the game,
- 2:01Speaker 1: and uh, I think I think he can get to
- 2:05Speaker 1: a thousand if if he wanted to. I think he
- 2:07Speaker 1: can get to one thousand goals, which I.
- 2:10Speaker 2: Would really break, make the record out of reach.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I mean, that would be unbelievable.
- 2:14Speaker 2: Now, I want to say so. Gretzky was very playful
- 2:17Speaker 2: with him at the UBS Arena when he did break
- 2:20Speaker 2: his own break the record. He says, I'll get you
- 2:23Speaker 2: what was it?
- 2:24Speaker 1: Some guy?
- 2:24Speaker 2: A car? If he broke nine hundred goals, I was
- 2:27Speaker 2: going to actually do that. But why didn't Gretzky get
- 2:30Speaker 2: to nine hundred, Like what was his setback there?
- 2:33Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he had been in the league forever,
- 2:35Speaker 1: and you gotta remember when he played with the Rangers,
- 2:37Speaker 1: his last three years with the Rangers, he wasn't a
- 2:40Speaker 1: super goal scorer anymore. He was still the best passer
- 2:43Speaker 1: in the league by far, even his last three he
- 2:47Speaker 1: is with the Rangers, but his goal scoring obviously had
- 2:51Speaker 1: had started Twain And I remember when he was playing
- 2:56Speaker 1: with Edmonton. He was playing with Gretzky and Glenn Anderson,
- 3:00Speaker 1: Paul Coffee and Curry and just so many, so many
- 3:05Speaker 1: great offensive players. It's just, you know, just remarkable. And
- 3:11Speaker 1: he you know that again. And you know age age
- 3:16Speaker 1: effects everybody differently, But I mean, here's a guy who's
- 3:22Speaker 1: doubled the overall points for anybody else. So nobody's going
- 3:28Speaker 1: to break Wayne Gretzky's all time point totals, that's for sure.
- 3:35Speaker 1: That's not going to happen. But you know, getting back
- 3:37Speaker 1: to Ovechkin. Last night, he scored the game winning goal
- 3:42Speaker 1: for the the Capitals. It was the gold difference in
- 3:47Speaker 1: the game. It came early in the second period, but
- 3:50Speaker 1: It was his one hundred and thirty eighth game winning goal,
- 3:53Speaker 1: the most in NHL history. He has the most power
- 3:56Speaker 1: play goals in NHL history three twenty six. I thought
- 4:00Speaker 1: he broke Gretzky's record, but no, he didn't. Dave Andrew
- 4:03Speaker 1: Truck has two hundred and seventy four power play goals.
- 4:08Speaker 1: He was the leader and when Gretzk when Ovechkin broke
- 4:11Speaker 1: that record a couple of years ago, I was surprised
- 4:14Speaker 1: that he broke Dave Andrew Truck's record and not Gretzky.
- 4:18Speaker 1: For some reason, I thought Gretzky had that record. But
- 4:22Speaker 1: you know he's won. He won the Heart Trophy as
- 4:25Speaker 1: MVP three times. He was. He won the con Smyth
- 4:28Speaker 1: when they won the Cup in twenty eighteen. He won
- 4:32Speaker 1: the Lester the excuse me, the Ted Lindsay Award, which
- 4:37Speaker 1: is by the players basically the same as most Viable Player.
- 4:42Speaker 1: Sometimes they differ, but he won that three times, so
- 4:45Speaker 1: the players respect his greatness. He scored forty goals fourteen
- 4:49Speaker 1: times and Alex everybody forgets this. He missed his rookie season.
- 4:56Speaker 1: He missed the whole season. He was a number one
- 4:58Speaker 1: pick in the NHL Draft in two thousand and four,
- 5:03Speaker 1: and he would have scored forty goals more that year
- 5:06Speaker 1: as a rookie, but that was the lockout and the
- 5:11Speaker 1: whole season went down to drain and the two thousand
- 5:14Speaker 1: in two thousand and four, so you know, and then
- 5:18Speaker 1: of course there was the COVID seasons which shut down,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you know, twenty games, so he would have been close
- 5:25Speaker 1: to one thousand. Alex, there's no doubt about it. He
- 5:28Speaker 1: still might get there. It's up to him. Obviously, he
- 5:34Speaker 1: could still score with the best of them. He hasn't
- 5:36Speaker 1: lost anything over a scoring touch. And he got to remember,
- 5:39Speaker 1: he's one of the big time hitters in the last
- 5:43Speaker 1: fifteen years. He's not one of these guys who just
- 5:45Speaker 1: takes a skate and tries to get away from contact.
- 5:50Speaker 1: He lays the body. You a fantastic player.
- 5:55Speaker 2: And I guess and as amazing all these records are
- 5:57Speaker 2: have to reinforce this idea that Gretzky will always be
- 6:02Speaker 2: the great one. I just you know.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Greg Gretzky. Gretzky is considered the greatest player of all time.
- 6:08Speaker 1: I would put Bobby or maybe slightly ahead of him,
- 6:10Speaker 1: but the uh and that's not denigrating gretz Sket's not
- 6:15Speaker 1: done Grannilvechkin, but as a pure goal scorer, Alvechkin is
- 6:20Speaker 1: is uh the greatest goal scoring the greatest all around
- 6:23Speaker 1: hockey player, Bobby Or. The four greatest hockey players arguably
- 6:27Speaker 1: are Gretzky, Bobby Orr, Mariol, mar Olamu and uh and
- 6:34Speaker 1: Gordi Hal. I love Bobby Or. I think he revolutionized
- 6:38Speaker 1: the league. And you know that uh uh, that's you know,
- 6:45Speaker 1: that's where that's how I feel. And I you know,
- 6:47Speaker 1: I've been watching hockey since sixty four. So you know,
- 6:52Speaker 1: Jordan Bennington was scored on last night and uh he
- 6:56Speaker 1: uh uh he tried to I have to keep the
- 7:00Speaker 1: puck for himself, the historic puck for himself, so uh
- 7:06Speaker 1: but they but he gave it back. I think he
- 7:07Speaker 1: was only he was, you know, just forcing around.
- 7:10Speaker 2: Uh.
- 7:10Speaker 1: You know the other thing about Bellovechkin scored two hundred
- 7:14Speaker 1: goals in three different decades. That's consistency.
- 7:18Speaker 2: Even say he's one of the funniest players because I
- 7:20Speaker 2: think he's hilarious.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Actually do you think, well he is. He does have
- 7:23Speaker 1: a great sense of humor. And again he's taking the
- 7:26Speaker 1: most shots in in Uh, he has most shots on
- 7:31Speaker 1: goal in NHL history. I mean, this great offensive player.
- 7:34Speaker 1: I mean that that's what. That's Uh, there's nothing all
- 7:38Speaker 1: you can say.
- 7:39Speaker 2: He's him and Oshi were just the most incredible duo
- 7:42Speaker 2: that year they won the Cup.
- 7:43Speaker 1: That was just that was a special team.
- 7:45Speaker 2: And talk about the guy who didn't waste his prime.
- 7:47Speaker 2: I mean, has really has really done everything that you
- 7:52Speaker 2: can do in my view in hockey. I mean he's
- 7:56Speaker 2: he's won the Cup, he's got this record, he's got
- 7:58Speaker 2: this guy like he's just done everything. And I don't
- 8:00Speaker 2: think he's done yet.
- 8:01Speaker 1: I really don't. Well, I don't think he is either.
- 8:03Speaker 1: And you know, one side note, I know what's going
- 8:07Speaker 1: on in the world. We all know what's going on
- 8:09Speaker 1: in the world with Russia, with Ukraine. But to penalize
- 8:15Speaker 1: all these great Russian hockey players that won't be able
- 8:17Speaker 1: to play in the Olympics unless something changes in the
- 8:20Speaker 1: next couple of months, to keep them out of the
- 8:23Speaker 1: World Juniors, to keep them out of the World Championships again,
- 8:28Speaker 1: I think sometimes you have to separate politics from hurting
- 8:32Speaker 1: the athletes. I mean t Stirkin would be the goalie
- 8:36Speaker 1: or or will it be Soroken or will it be
- 8:39Speaker 1: Vasilevski or would it be on Mombrowski. I mean, for
- 8:44Speaker 1: the top five or six goaltenders in the world are Russian,
- 8:48Speaker 1: and the best on best tournament in the Olympics like
- 8:51Speaker 1: we're going to have this year is incredible. But with
- 8:55Speaker 1: Russia not there, the Russian hockey team not the are
- 9:00Speaker 1: uh it's it's lacking. And I don't think that the
- 9:06Speaker 1: athletes should should be uh the victim of of of
- 9:13Speaker 1: political stuff. That's all. I mean. The tournament's better when
- 9:17Speaker 1: Russia is part of it. In hockey, I'm just talking
- 9:19Speaker 1: about just pure hockey.
- 9:21Speaker 2: So and yeah, that is so true. And I will
- 9:24Speaker 2: tell you the US hockey US Canada rivalry has really
- 9:28Speaker 2: stepped up since Russia's not being in and it has
- 9:32Speaker 2: and I do like I do like that. By the way,
- 9:34Speaker 2: I have to say, you know, Toronto a hockey town,
- 9:39Speaker 2: but boy did they love their baseball this year. We're
- 9:41Speaker 2: gonna into that World Series in just a minute. But
- 9:44Speaker 2: I gotta say, for a hockey town, I didn't know
- 9:46Speaker 2: they loved baseball that much.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Louis, Oh no, they you know, they supported the day
- 9:51Speaker 1: since they came in into the League in seventy seven,
- 9:54Speaker 1: playing that horrendous old exhibition stadium, which I was never
- 9:59Speaker 1: written by past to the couple of times and it
- 10:01Speaker 1: just looked like looked like hell. But I was. I
- 10:04Speaker 1: was in the Dome a couple of times, and they
- 10:07Speaker 1: renovated a couple of years ago, when now now they said,
- 10:10Speaker 1: it's really it's really fantastic. It was great when I went.
- 10:13Speaker 2: But well, how about that dog is We're going to
- 10:15Speaker 2: recap that in just a moment. But any final thoughts
- 10:17Speaker 2: on this historic moment, I mean, nine hundred goals, Thank
- 10:20Speaker 2: god he did in DC. I like when when these
- 10:22Speaker 2: guys do this stuff at home, because what better play.
- 10:25Speaker 1: To do it.
- 10:26Speaker 2: That's where he has made his bones his whole career.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So it's always better when you score the iconic, that
- 10:33Speaker 1: historic goal, home run, basket, whatever it is, whatever the
- 10:39Speaker 1: record is, in front of the home fans. I just
- 10:43Speaker 1: hope he plays because I would love to see him
- 10:44Speaker 1: get a thousand. I really would, and I think he can.
- 10:50Speaker 1: So let's say he's at nine forty at the end
- 10:52Speaker 1: of this year, is he going to retire? We'll see.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I think he's too hungry to retire, you know, I
- 10:59Speaker 2: think he wants to as many as he can actually, so.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you. Plus the fact they're a
- 11:04Speaker 1: contending team. I mean, if they were bottom feeder, then
- 11:08Speaker 1: that's a different story. But they're a Stanley Cup contending team.
- 11:12Speaker 2: So who around him had set him up for all
- 11:14Speaker 2: the success?
- 11:14Speaker 1: Meeting? Who around him set him.
- 11:18Speaker 2: Up for these nine hundred goals?
- 11:20Speaker 1: Like who?
- 11:20Speaker 2: I would say, Tom Wilson and all these other guys.
- 11:22Speaker 2: But who's been a real key player to well?
- 11:24Speaker 1: Remember he played he played with Nicholas Backstrom for so
- 11:27Speaker 1: many years, and I don't know who has who assisted
- 11:30Speaker 1: on the most goals of a Vegkin that that's that's
- 11:34Speaker 1: a good question. But he played with Bastrom and I'm
- 11:36Speaker 1: sure that that Backstrom probably uh has a ton of
- 11:42Speaker 1: assists on Ovechkin's goals, you know. And again he's deadly
- 11:48Speaker 1: on the power play, you know that one time or
- 11:51Speaker 1: from the uh the left circle, you know, as they
- 11:54Speaker 1: say his office, that booming one time slap shot. Everybody
- 11:58Speaker 1: knows where it's or it's coming from. They just can't
- 12:01Speaker 1: stop it, the opposition. Yeah, and he's played with great players,
- 12:07Speaker 1: like you said, they play with Oshi, he played with
- 12:10Speaker 1: you know, John Carlson, great defenseman, who are still playing
- 12:14Speaker 1: with him? You know, They've had a lot of outstanding
- 12:18Speaker 1: players with the capitals. But I bet Nicholas Baxtram might
- 12:23Speaker 1: he might be right up there. As far as the
- 12:27Speaker 1: primary assist on veterans goals, that's a good question. I'm
- 12:30Speaker 1: gonna I'm gonna do some research on that to see
- 12:32Speaker 1: who's who's assisted mostly on his goals.
- 12:37Speaker 2: All right, Louis, well, report back toes on that. But
- 12:39Speaker 2: you know, we got so much more to cover. I
- 12:41Speaker 2: want to get to our conversation we had about the
- 12:43Speaker 2: World Series, about the NFL, and a little bit about
- 12:45Speaker 2: the Ranger hockey later on.
- 12:46Speaker 1: But let's get to that combo right now.
- 12:48Speaker 2: In addition to the craziness of election week, Lewis Terminello,
- 12:51Speaker 2: we had a crazy Game seven and a crazy seven
- 12:54Speaker 2: games of this World Series, and I want to start there.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Mind goodness, bases loaded one out and Toronto just couldn't
- 13:03Speaker 2: do it. How many times we said this, Louis where
- 13:05Speaker 2: the pitching for the Dodgers is locks in, even against
- 13:09Speaker 2: the ropes like that.
- 13:13Speaker 1: Alex, thank you, it was always to be with you again.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Game six and Game seven are memorable games and you know,
- 13:21Speaker 1: if you look at the history of the World Series,
- 13:23Speaker 1: when they say this is a great World series, that's
- 13:24Speaker 1: a great World series, it's usually because of.
- 13:28Speaker 3: What happens at the end of the series.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Like if you look at this with the except with
- 13:32Speaker 1: the exception of the eighteen inning game, the other four
- 13:36Speaker 1: games were basically pedestrian. You had, you know, Yamamoto dominating
- 13:42Speaker 1: Game two, the Jays winning game of four and five comfortably,
- 13:48Speaker 1: and then Game six and Game seven happened, and that
- 13:51Speaker 1: will make this a memorable series. And there's been serious
- 13:54Speaker 1: in a past like this. I mean, let everybody said,
- 13:56Speaker 1: oh the nineteen eighty six World who was a great
- 13:59Speaker 1: World series? It was great because of Game six in
- 14:03Speaker 1: Game seven. The first five games were meds and meds pedestrian.
- 14:09Speaker 1: And you can go through the series, the history of
- 14:12Speaker 1: the World Series, and there are many examples like that.
- 14:15Speaker 1: But Alex, Game six and Game seven were off the charts.
- 14:22Speaker 1: It shows again why baseball is the best of all sports.
- 14:25Speaker 1: It was drama packed Game seven, most so was the
- 14:29Speaker 1: end of Game six, multiple twist and turns, one of
- 14:36Speaker 1: the greatest plays in World Series history. Bob of the
- 14:40Speaker 1: ninth Game seven, Ernie Clement who had already had thirty
- 14:45Speaker 1: postseason hits, which was a record, looked like he was
- 14:49Speaker 1: going to add to that record with number thirty one
- 14:52Speaker 1: when he drilled the bomb deep to left center field,
- 14:57Speaker 1: and you could see right away that Keiki Hernandez was
- 15:00Speaker 1: not going to catch up to it.
- 15:01Speaker 3: He took a wrong angle and.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Was going to go over his head. He was not
- 15:05Speaker 1: going to make that catch, and the World Series would
- 15:10Speaker 1: be over. The Jays would be having a parade today.
- 15:14Speaker 1: But Andy Pajas, who had just come in two US earlier,
- 15:19Speaker 1: when they loaded the bases the Jays, and they put
- 15:22Speaker 1: him in there because he had a strong arm. Alex
- 15:26Speaker 1: he must have ran eighty ninety feet from center to
- 15:30Speaker 1: left center.
- 15:31Speaker 3: He jumped over Kiki.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Hernandez like he was driving down the lane of an
- 15:36Speaker 1: NBA court and slammed dunking over someone. And he made
- 15:40Speaker 1: this miraculous catch colliding with Hernandez. An amazing play, maybe
- 15:47Speaker 1: the greatest defensive play in the World Series history, because
- 15:51Speaker 1: the series would be over and then yeah, it was
- 15:57Speaker 1: the most clutch catch I could remember. And then you
- 16:01Speaker 1: had ya Momoto. He threw ninety six pitches on Friday,
- 16:06Speaker 1: high pressured pitches, on Friday, throws two and two thirds
- 16:10Speaker 1: pressure packed innings in Game seven, and you know they
- 16:17Speaker 1: get they get away with the win. Now again we're
- 16:20Speaker 1: talking about the catch, but how about the play Rojas
- 16:23Speaker 1: made getting kind of kind of full off at the
- 16:27Speaker 1: plate by inches by inches, And you know they was
- 16:35Speaker 1: saying that his book was almost on the plate. That's
- 16:38Speaker 1: how close it was.
- 16:39Speaker 2: I mean, if you look at that overhead angle, it
- 16:40Speaker 2: was unbelievable.
- 16:41Speaker 1: It was unbelievable, Alex. I mean, you talk about we
- 16:44Speaker 1: always say sports is a game of inches. That that
- 16:47Speaker 1: really was.
- 16:49Speaker 2: All right, I want to ask you. So this also
- 16:51Speaker 2: coincides with the anniversary weekend of Freeman's first World Series,
- 16:55Speaker 2: which was November second, twenty twenty one with the Braves.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Is he a Hall of Famer Louis or not? Are
- 17:02Speaker 2: we not in that discussion yet?
- 17:04Speaker 1: Well? I thought he was a Hall of famer before
- 17:06Speaker 1: this year. So, and he did not have a big postseason. Yes,
- 17:09Speaker 1: he did win the eighteen inning game with the home
- 17:11Speaker 1: run over the center field offense, but he didn't have
- 17:15Speaker 1: a big postseason. But he's a hall of famer, I
- 17:18Speaker 1: mean he is. I mean, he's a very good defensive player.
- 17:23Speaker 1: He's a clutch hitter. I know he won an MVP
- 17:26Speaker 1: in twenty twenty. Lou Turmernello does not count anything that
- 17:30Speaker 1: happened in twenty twenty. That was a sixty game season.
- 17:33Speaker 1: MVP's you know, has to be one hundred two game seasons.
- 17:38Speaker 1: But he's a great, great player, He's a winner. He's
- 17:42Speaker 1: a Hall of Famer even before the Dodgers won their
- 17:45Speaker 1: back to back on on Saturday Night. But you make
- 17:49Speaker 1: a good point. He has been a cog on two
- 17:53Speaker 1: World Series winners. To me, that means something when you're
- 17:58Speaker 1: looking at potential Hall of Fame players and he's gonna
- 18:03Speaker 1: make it. He he'll be a first ballot Hall of
- 18:06Speaker 1: Fame when his time comes.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Absolutely, and then I gotta I gotta say, uh, Trims player.
- 18:13Speaker 2: Yamamoto pretty much began the season with the Dodgers and
- 18:17Speaker 2: ends it right. He was the he was the picture
- 18:18Speaker 2: on the I mean, what a story for him. And
- 18:21Speaker 2: we kind of knew when they signed him he was
- 18:23Speaker 2: going to be special. But he's taken greatness already and
- 18:26Speaker 2: it's only like his first couple of years here in
- 18:28Speaker 2: the league.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Alex he has you know, he's right up there with
- 18:35Speaker 1: Strubel with Zach Wheeler, uh and Yamamoto, as you know,
- 18:40Speaker 1: the three best pitchers in the major leagues. You could
- 18:45Speaker 1: see why the Mets offer hid in the same amount
- 18:47Speaker 1: of dollars the Dodgers did. But I guess you want
- 18:49Speaker 1: to play without Tani, and that's that's the advantage the
- 18:52Speaker 1: Dodgers are gonna have moving forward. All these great Japanese
- 18:55Speaker 1: players are probably gonna look at the Dodgers first if.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Money is is equal.
- 18:59Speaker 1: But Yamato was remarkable, and I thought he was I
- 19:02Speaker 1: thought he was losing it a little bit that they
- 19:04Speaker 1: kept him in there too long when they had the
- 19:06Speaker 1: first and third in the in the bond the eleventh,
- 19:10Speaker 1: you know, after Will Smith put the Dodgers up in
- 19:13Speaker 1: the top of the eleventh with that home run to
- 19:16Speaker 1: left field. But you know, they had Alejandro Kirkup, a
- 19:21Speaker 1: guy who's a terrific hitter. He had a terrific postseason,
- 19:25Speaker 1: but he hit a groumble up the middle of Charity
- 19:27Speaker 1: Hop two bets. We just had to step on second
- 19:30Speaker 1: and throw the first and the World Series was over. Alex.
- 19:33Speaker 1: I think for the for the seven games combined, I
- 19:38Speaker 1: would say most of the time the Jay's outplayed the Dodgers,
- 19:43Speaker 1: but the Dodgers won. And there was nothing freaking in
- 19:46Speaker 1: the series. You know, there was there was no line
- 19:51Speaker 1: driveing him off the top of a fence and bouncing back.
- 19:57Speaker 1: It really was. It really was seven games that almost
- 20:02Speaker 1: had their own story. These are two teams that really
- 20:07Speaker 1: deserved uh to be there. I feel bad for Toronto
- 20:12Speaker 1: because they played great. I mean, they were last last
- 20:14Speaker 1: year and they came back. They came within inches of
- 20:19Speaker 1: being world champion. And remember this is not a small
- 20:22Speaker 1: market team, so this is not a feel good story
- 20:24Speaker 1: that way. They were the fifth They had the fifth
- 20:27Speaker 1: largest payroll in the major leagues. Now the Dodgers with
- 20:30Speaker 1: the first pay payroll. They won, and we know that's
- 20:33Speaker 1: a baseball problem and I don't know if they'll it
- 20:35Speaker 1: be solved, but you know, the Jays had the you know,
- 20:39Speaker 1: the fifth highest payroll at MLB. They played great. I
- 20:44Speaker 1: mean Trey Sevich, I mean it, guy pitched four starts
- 20:49Speaker 1: in September.
- 20:50Speaker 3: He was he was remarkable.
- 20:51Speaker 1: He really to me.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I mean, I know you can't, you don't really do that,
- 20:55Speaker 2: but he was a World Series MVP two. The way
- 20:57Speaker 2: he pitched, I mean, my goodness, rookie, ye, rookie record
- 21:01Speaker 2: as he's a single eight. I mean, this guy was
- 21:04Speaker 2: from Dunedin. Okay, I only know that as the.
- 21:06Speaker 1: Spring training home of the Blue Jays.
- 21:08Speaker 4: You know, now that's right now he's you're talking about
- 21:11Speaker 4: MVP's alex Ernie Clement that ball that if Pause doesn't
- 21:16Speaker 4: catch that ball and the James win, who's they would
- 21:20Speaker 4: probably give it to Guerrero Junior?
- 21:22Speaker 1: And I would I really won't had a problem with that.
- 21:25Speaker 1: But Clement thirty one hits in the postseason a new record.
- 21:29Speaker 1: I mean, there was so many great, great stories, so
- 21:33Speaker 1: many great achievements in this World Series, and it was
- 21:40Speaker 1: a good weekend for baseball, and I watched every second.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I was riveted. It was paulsating Babs were eighteen innings,
- 21:47Speaker 1: that's the big question. Though, yes, Alex, I was up
- 21:51Speaker 1: to two fifteen on AM wide Away.
- 21:54Speaker 3: I think the game made.
- 21:55Speaker 1: The game was so dramatic. I was wh away when
- 22:02Speaker 1: Freddy Freeman knocked that ball over to center field fans.
- 22:08Speaker 1: That was something else.
- 22:09Speaker 2: And you know the other thing is and I know
- 22:11Speaker 2: he did this against the Yanks two but when you
- 22:14Speaker 2: look at his personal side and how his kid underwent
- 22:16Speaker 2: all that medical treatment and came out unscathed.
- 22:20Speaker 1: You know.
- 22:20Speaker 2: I mean that's a big part of motivating him. I
- 22:24Speaker 2: think every day he's on the field like he does
- 22:26Speaker 2: it for a son. And you could tell it's very
- 22:27Speaker 2: evident how that whole experience has impacted him on and
- 22:30Speaker 2: off the field. Now we're we're missing the big elephant
- 22:34Speaker 2: in the room. Clayton Kershaw three rings. Now, he's a
- 22:40Speaker 2: first ballot Hall of Famer, no doubt, but the fact
- 22:42Speaker 2: that he was involved with that eighteen inning game was
- 22:45Speaker 2: contributing to that makes it even more special. What just
- 22:48Speaker 2: like he was on the team, he really helped that
- 22:50Speaker 2: team in the eighteen and ning game too.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Well, he was next up if that game went to
- 22:57Speaker 1: the twelfth inning, he was stuff uh so uh uh.
- 23:04Speaker 1: He actually thought when Kirk into the double play, he
- 23:07Speaker 1: forgot how many outs they were for a second and
- 23:10Speaker 1: he thought they had tied the game, didn't realize the
- 23:12Speaker 1: game was over.
- 23:15Speaker 2: And you know, it's interesting, unlike the Yanks, the Blue
- 23:17Speaker 2: Jays really didn't make any you know, mental mistakes. It
- 23:21Speaker 2: just was where the ball bounced. It felt like they
- 23:24Speaker 2: the only mental mistake they made.
- 23:26Speaker 1: And it's one of the big base based running blunders
- 23:29Speaker 1: uh in in uh a World Series history was Vazer
- 23:36Speaker 1: on Friday night. Now, I'm not saying that that that
- 23:40Speaker 1: court in the game. You know it was one out
- 23:43Speaker 1: and uh there was second and third and uh you
- 23:47Speaker 1: know that that line drive that went out to Kiki
- 23:50Speaker 1: was a floater. It wasn't really a line driver. It
- 23:52Speaker 1: was a floater to left Keiki caught caught it shoulder
- 23:57Speaker 1: high on his left shoulder. It was right in front
- 23:59Speaker 1: of right in front of Barger, and for him, they
- 24:02Speaker 1: got thrown out of that second base. The first ever
- 24:05Speaker 1: seven to four put out in World Series history. Uh,
- 24:10Speaker 1: that was on Barger, And I feel bad for the
- 24:11Speaker 1: guy because he had a big postseason. He became the
- 24:15Speaker 1: first player ever they hit a pinch at Grand Slam
- 24:18Speaker 1: home run in the history of the World Series. And
- 24:22Speaker 1: again that did that course in the game. No the
- 24:24Speaker 1: next batter and I forgot who it would be or
- 24:26Speaker 1: it could have popped up or made out. So but
- 24:30Speaker 1: that was really the only big mental mistake in the
- 24:35Speaker 1: seven games. But you know, both teams well managed. You know,
- 24:42Speaker 1: Davey Roberts did some things that uh he was you know,
- 24:46Speaker 1: he was all over I said, my I even questioned
- 24:49Speaker 1: some of the things that he did Alex when in
- 24:53Speaker 1: top of the ninth in King Hoffman after he had
- 24:56Speaker 1: struck out the last batter of the eighth and struck
- 24:59Speaker 1: out the first batter in the ninth and they were
- 25:02Speaker 1: two outs away from the championship. But when I texted
- 25:05Speaker 1: one of my friends who has some Dodger ties through
- 25:09Speaker 1: another friend, I said, they cannot let Rojas bat. They
- 25:14Speaker 1: had to pinch it for Rojas. Well, good didn't. Davey
- 25:17Speaker 1: Roberts didn't pinch it for Rojas because he tied. He
- 25:20Speaker 1: tied Game seven of the World Series. And by the way,
- 25:24Speaker 1: he had sore ribs from Friday night when they got
- 25:29Speaker 1: the seven to four put out, when Hernandez through the
- 25:32Speaker 1: Rojas and they all jumped on Rojas celebrating the game
- 25:36Speaker 1: six win. He almost didn't make. He almost didn't make
- 25:39Speaker 1: the game because his ribs was a store and and
- 25:42Speaker 1: he lines this this shot to left that ties World
- 25:46Speaker 1: Series Game seven. Uh, Baseball is such a great game,
- 25:52Speaker 1: no clock. It's not like football with teams.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Yes, what I think this whole postseason has made the
- 25:59Speaker 2: case for no extra runner at second because who doesn't
- 26:02Speaker 2: love a extra ending classic, and we had more than
- 26:06Speaker 2: just one. We had about three or four that I
- 26:09Speaker 2: could think of in that.
- 26:12Speaker 1: You're right, I mean again, I hate it. You know
- 26:16Speaker 1: that if you want to make a free runner in
- 26:18Speaker 1: a regular season start at twelve inning, have at least
- 26:24Speaker 1: have the tenth and eleventh where it's real baseball starting
- 26:29Speaker 1: a twelve finning star on the thirteenth thing.
- 26:31Speaker 3: No one starting at tenth inning.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Really.
- 26:35Speaker 2: But on the other hand, it is also interesting when
- 26:37Speaker 2: the game does continue longer in the regular season, because
- 26:39Speaker 2: that means they couldn't score with the runner on second,
- 26:41Speaker 2: and that never made sense to me either, sometimes, like
- 26:44Speaker 2: how do you not get the guy over? But it
- 26:46Speaker 2: does happen. There are games that do last past the
- 26:49Speaker 2: twelfth thinning at times, even with the extra runner onund.
- 26:51Speaker 1: Which is interesting. It does. It does.
- 26:55Speaker 2: But the other guy we're missing here is Donnie Baseball
- 27:01Speaker 2: and whether now he's going to make a decision. I'm
- 27:04Speaker 2: sure whether he wants to continue coaching anywhere or with
- 27:06Speaker 2: the Blue Jays or in baseball forty seven year career. Louis,
- 27:11Speaker 2: I know he wants that ring somewhere. What's he gonna do?
- 27:13Speaker 1: You think, Well, he's you know he did. He played
- 27:17Speaker 1: for the Yankees and he managed the Dodgers, so he
- 27:20Speaker 1: had chances to get that ring. You couldn't ask for
- 27:23Speaker 1: two better franchises to work for to get that ring.
- 27:26Speaker 2: But I guess he has a second Yeah, he was
- 27:29Speaker 2: hitting coach in two thousand and four when the collapse happened.
- 27:31Speaker 2: I didn't know that until I was reading back on
- 27:34Speaker 2: some of this stuff.
- 27:35Speaker 1: Oh right, that's right, yes, uh huh. So again he
- 27:38Speaker 1: loves baseball, but I know he has a ten year
- 27:41Speaker 1: old son. He might have some young kids from a
- 27:42Speaker 1: second marriage, so he might want to spend more time
- 27:46Speaker 1: with them. I'm sure Toronto will take him back, and
- 27:51Speaker 1: I'm sure Donnie manningly would want to coach, be the
- 27:56Speaker 1: hitting coach for or the bench coach for the Jays
- 27:58Speaker 1: because you know they have.
- 28:01Speaker 3: An outstanding team now.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Of course, moving forward, the big question is going to
- 28:06Speaker 1: be are they going to re sign Dante Bischett I
- 28:10Speaker 1: mean bo Baschett, son of Donte Bichett, And I think
- 28:15Speaker 1: that's I think the Mets and Yankees both will be
- 28:17Speaker 1: in play for bau Bashett, who I gotta give a
- 28:21Speaker 1: lot of credit. He is a kid twenty seven years old,
- 28:24Speaker 1: in the prime of his career, played with a bum knee.
- 28:28Speaker 1: He probably shouldn't have played. He's going to be he
- 28:30Speaker 1: is going to be a free agent. He could have
- 28:33Speaker 1: He could have just said, you know what, I ain't
- 28:35Speaker 1: putting my future at risk if I get hurt again.
- 28:39Speaker 1: He played. He hit that dramatic home run which looked
- 28:43Speaker 1: like it was going to be the springboard to a
- 28:46Speaker 1: Game seven victory for the Jays, and he and he
- 28:48Speaker 1: did it.
- 28:50Speaker 2: It was Dundee, teammate of Don Manningly because him and
- 28:52Speaker 2: Bo are very close. I think that's because they were teammates.
- 28:55Speaker 1: That him and his dad. Right again, Dante, I mean
- 28:58Speaker 1: he played for He played for the played for Colorado,
- 29:01Speaker 1: he played for Boston. I don't think he ever played
- 29:03Speaker 1: for the Yankees. But again, you know, in the eighties,
- 29:05Speaker 1: the Yankees were bringing in so many guys, you know.
- 29:11Speaker 1: But uh, you know, Bo Boschett is, he's a winner.
- 29:20Speaker 1: I would love to see the Mets sign and put
- 29:21Speaker 1: him at second base.
- 29:24Speaker 2: All right, Well, where's the lego from here? Because now
- 29:26Speaker 2: the question is, all right, the Dodgers winning would be
- 29:29Speaker 2: bad for baseball because the Lee owners are going to
- 29:31Speaker 2: say this that and the other about caps and all that.
- 29:34Speaker 2: I mean, could this lead to a lockdown? Is that
- 29:36Speaker 2: what people are fearing after this season?
- 29:39Speaker 1: Well, I don't if there hasn't been a lockdown all
- 29:41Speaker 1: these years. And let's face and I know you hate
- 29:45Speaker 1: when I say this, but the leaders in doing this
- 29:47Speaker 1: was your beloved New York Yankees, who did it over
- 29:49Speaker 1: and over and over before anybody else did. Alex, I
- 29:53Speaker 1: don't know if there's going to be a lockout. There
- 29:55Speaker 1: might be, but I don't think you're ever going to
- 29:59Speaker 1: see it. Salary cap in baseball because the Players Union
- 30:03Speaker 1: is probably one of the strongest unions in the country,
- 30:05Speaker 1: if not the strongest. I would like to see it.
- 30:11Speaker 1: I would like to see a salary cap, a floor,
- 30:14Speaker 1: and a cap because in revenue sharing, the Pittsburgh Pirates
- 30:21Speaker 1: can't get money from revenue sharing and then don't put
- 30:24Speaker 1: it back in the team.
- 30:25Speaker 3: I mean, we've talked about this a thousand times.
- 30:29Speaker 1: As soon as Paul Schemes gets close to free agency,
- 30:33Speaker 1: or maybe even before that, they're gonna they're gonna trade him,
- 30:37Speaker 1: a guy that they drafted number one overall. So I
- 30:39Speaker 1: don't understand that, I really don't.
- 30:48Speaker 2: So we'll say, we're starting to see the Pirates breakdown.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I mean they traded k Brian Hayes, who was a
- 30:53Speaker 2: big part of their corps for a little bit. He's
- 30:56Speaker 2: gone to the reds Now and I was kind of
- 30:57Speaker 2: surprised to see that move. But maybe it's a sign
- 31:00Speaker 2: they need to trade away guys to make sure they
- 31:02Speaker 2: can go from the ground up again. I don't I
- 31:03Speaker 2: don't know exactly what's happening there.
- 31:05Speaker 1: But yeah, but that but again, that's not that's not
- 31:08Speaker 1: good for baseball. And uh, we'll see, we'll you know,
- 31:11Speaker 1: we'll see, we'll see what happens. I mean, the worst
- 31:14Speaker 1: thing that can happen in baseball is a lockout of
- 31:16Speaker 1: any time. Kind I'd rather have the Dodgers and the
- 31:20Speaker 1: Yankees and the Mets and the Phillies and Brono and
- 31:23Speaker 1: Texas spend five hundred million dollars on a roster. Then
- 31:28Speaker 1: there'd be a work stoppage. But I would like to
- 31:30Speaker 1: see a I would like to see a cap.
- 31:35Speaker 2: I really like it because I don't want to see
- 31:37Speaker 2: another team get away with a payment play and that
- 31:39Speaker 2: one I don't really understand.
- 31:40Speaker 1: But what can I well, you know what, Then the
- 31:42Speaker 1: funny thing is uh, and it wasn't. Unfortunately, it wasn't illegal.
- 31:47Speaker 1: It should be. And by illegal, I don't mean uh
- 31:52Speaker 1: that you throw somebody in jail. I mean in sports,
- 31:55Speaker 1: in MLB, uh rules and REGs. But apparently Otani oftened
- 32:00Speaker 1: that same deal to the Angels, who should have take
- 32:04Speaker 1: who should have done that deal with a mistake, to
- 32:06Speaker 1: the Cubs, excuse me, to the Jason, to somebody else,
- 32:10Speaker 1: to five teams, not the Mets, to the Yankees, by
- 32:14Speaker 1: the way, just look it up. Dante Baschett, father of Bo,
- 32:18Speaker 1: did not play for the Yankees. He played for the Angels,
- 32:21Speaker 1: the Brewers, the Rockies where he became it had his
- 32:24Speaker 1: best year.
- 32:25Speaker 2: Well, but then right like they know that he had
- 32:28Speaker 2: known manningly for a while, even as a kid.
- 32:30Speaker 1: That's kind of the impression I got.
- 32:31Speaker 3: And they probably know.
- 32:32Speaker 1: You know, these guys know we yeah, well, and you
- 32:36Speaker 1: know I think lifetime batting average.
- 32:40Speaker 2: How about Vladdie Okay, I mean, everybody in the Yankee
- 32:43Speaker 2: world is happy he was crying. I feel bad for
- 32:45Speaker 2: the guy, okay, because he locked in for a fourteen
- 32:48Speaker 2: year deal. And I think you can get the Blue
- 32:50Speaker 2: Jays a World Series win. I really do and the
- 32:53Speaker 2: first year of your fourteen year deal, you almost get there,
- 32:55Speaker 2: and I can I can feel that anguish and he
- 32:58Speaker 2: was feeling on the bench. I mean, it's only natural
- 33:01Speaker 2: to cry like that.
- 33:02Speaker 1: Come on, absolutely, it's only natural. And him and Earning
- 33:06Speaker 1: Clement were crying heavily in the locker room. I mean Clement,
- 33:09Speaker 1: I mean they couldn't Clement couldn't stop from crying. But
- 33:11Speaker 1: you know what that means, Alex. Yeah, they're emotional, but
- 33:14Speaker 1: they care.
- 33:15Speaker 3: They care.
- 33:17Speaker 1: They're not going to be like Garrett Cole who fifteen
- 33:19Speaker 1: minutes after uh the Astros a lost game set in
- 33:24Speaker 1: the Washington and he was interviewed. I forgot who interviewed him.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Bus their only or or I guess it was ke
- 33:31Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal. I am no longer an employee of the
- 33:33Speaker 1: Houston Astros. What what kind of answer is that? So
- 33:38Speaker 1: Morero and Clement, you know, those guys care.
- 33:42Speaker 3: I agree with you.
- 33:43Speaker 2: How about how about after the Yang's gott eliminated. Well,
- 33:45Speaker 2: it was a good postseason for me, That's what Wan
- 33:47Speaker 2: Soto said. I was like, are you kidding me? It's
- 33:50Speaker 2: just like.
- 33:51Speaker 1: Again, you know there's something to that. You know, it's
- 33:57Speaker 1: a good postseason for me, what the hell does that mean?
- 34:00Speaker 1: Mardy Freeman won the World Series and he didn't have
- 34:02Speaker 1: a good postseason, even though he did contribute that one game,
- 34:04Speaker 1: you know, that eighteen inning game, hitting the home run,
- 34:07Speaker 1: so you know, team first and that's what and that's
- 34:11Speaker 1: what the Jays were. Team first.
- 34:13Speaker 3: I'm not saying the dodge is warrant, so.
- 34:17Speaker 2: All right, Well, the other the other technical I don't
- 34:19Speaker 2: want to call it because he did really well, but
- 34:21Speaker 2: it was part of the whole series. Is Otani pitching.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I mean, we didn't see that last year because he
- 34:26Speaker 2: wasn't ready to pitch. Then they finally said he's going
- 34:29Speaker 2: to go on the mound this year and he pitches
- 34:32Speaker 2: and in the nlcsifel again a Ruthian kind of thing
- 34:35Speaker 2: with that three home more game and ten strikeouts and
- 34:37Speaker 2: six to Scorrel. I mean, that's what Ruth would do
- 34:39Speaker 2: back in the day. But in the World Series, I
- 34:43Speaker 2: agree with a Rod they should have moved him to
- 34:45Speaker 2: the next night after that eighteen inning game, like to
- 34:48Speaker 2: start him that night.
- 34:49Speaker 1: It didn't make sense because he.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Was in the lineup that whole eighteen things.
- 34:53Speaker 1: To throw him out there, I don't know.
- 34:54Speaker 2: I think they could have done it a switcher who
- 34:56Speaker 2: as a Rod was suggessing, but they didn't, and he
- 34:58Speaker 2: got rocked a little bit that that game.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, Now a couple of things. Yes, he was
- 35:04Speaker 1: an ante name game, but he only had to come
- 35:07Speaker 1: to he came to plate. I was gonna say only
- 35:08Speaker 1: nine times. He came in play nine times, and uh
- 35:12Speaker 1: he got out of base all nine, which is remarkable.
- 35:15Speaker 1: But he wasn't playing the field. He wasn't standing out
- 35:19Speaker 1: in right field or left field. Uh for you know,
- 35:22Speaker 1: for six hours and thirty nine minutes, which was a
- 35:25Speaker 1: time of the game. So again, but I understand what
- 35:31Speaker 1: Aarrod's saying. He could go fifty to fifty on that,
- 35:35Speaker 1: you could.
- 35:38Speaker 2: I really By the way, I thought the broadcast crew
- 35:41Speaker 2: was phenomenal. I liked that whole crew of Burkhardt, who
- 35:44Speaker 2: you know, grew up with us basically on smy and
- 35:47Speaker 2: then now it's a national name. He does football, he
- 35:50Speaker 2: does this baseball pre game. I mean he's all over
- 35:52Speaker 2: the place.
- 35:54Speaker 1: And uh.
- 35:55Speaker 2: And then I liked the chemistry between a Rod or
- 35:58Speaker 2: teasing Jeter. It's very interesting to the list and to
- 36:00Speaker 2: all them bust each other's chops. Most of the time actually, but.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Right well, like bust each other's shops because they were
- 36:07Speaker 1: such great competitors. Uh, and their two teams, the Yankees
- 36:12Speaker 1: and the Red Sox, were always fighting for the.
- 36:16Speaker 2: Uh always always fighting for yeah and uh yeah. And
- 36:22Speaker 2: you know, they even admit they didn't like each other,
- 36:25Speaker 2: and that, you know, as he even off the billable
- 36:27Speaker 2: because they were so competitive that it was just tough
- 36:29Speaker 2: to actually like each other off the field too.
- 36:31Speaker 1: So it was interesting that.
- 36:33Speaker 2: They're all together now in the booth. But anyway, I digress.
- 36:36Speaker 2: I just thought the postgame show, I thought that the
- 36:38Speaker 2: whole thing was good.
- 36:40Speaker 1: Joe Davis, I think he just meant the biggest I'm
- 36:43Speaker 1: not the biggest Joe Davis fan. I'm not. I am
- 36:46Speaker 1: not the biggest Joe Davis fan. He's solid. But his
- 36:50Speaker 1: call on Ernie Clement ride and the catch by Pajos
- 36:55Speaker 1: was great. A. I mean, he did a tremendous job
- 36:59Speaker 1: on that call. So, uh, so we move on. The
- 37:05Speaker 1: season's over. Off season will be one hundred and forty.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Four days now, and that that is significant because a
- 37:10Speaker 2: lot of Giant fans here want baseball already because it's
- 37:13Speaker 2: been so vigeitable.
- 37:15Speaker 1: And look, if.
- 37:16Speaker 2: You're the Giants, if you thought, if you're a Giant
- 37:19Speaker 2: fan and you thought they would come back from a
- 37:21Speaker 2: thirty three point you know the way that fourth quarter went,
- 37:24Speaker 2: I think you'd be mistaken. I'm not surprised they lost
- 37:27Speaker 2: the last two weeks. I know you thought they'd be
- 37:29Speaker 2: more competitive yesterday. But when you have the win taken
- 37:31Speaker 2: out of your sales like they did in Denver and
- 37:34Speaker 2: also a little bit against Dallas, but specifically Denver, how
- 37:37Speaker 2: do you recover from that? You just cannot mentally, I
- 37:39Speaker 2: don't think you can.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Well, well, I'm gonna push back a little bit, my
- 37:43Speaker 1: dear friend on this one. Now we know that Brian
- 37:47Speaker 1: Dables on a hot seat if he wants to get
- 37:51Speaker 1: off the hot seat. And if what happened, if what
- 37:56Speaker 1: happened to the Giants is like what you said, how
- 37:59Speaker 1: you would bound from a loss like they had in Denver, Well,
- 38:03Speaker 1: that's where coaches make a difference. And you know, I
- 38:06Speaker 1: believe that the biggest thing in the NFL nowadays is
- 38:13Speaker 1: you gotta have a great head coach. And when I
- 38:16Speaker 1: was watching I watched the whole Giant game yesterday, I
- 38:21Speaker 1: was surprised how the Niners were never really threatened. Yeah,
- 38:26Speaker 1: I know, the Giants scored first. But you know, Kyle
- 38:30Speaker 1: Shanahan and the Niners have so many injuries, as is
- 38:34Speaker 1: every NFL team, And that's a whole nother story, Alex.
- 38:37Speaker 1: I can't believe how these injuries are happening six and
- 38:41Speaker 1: seven each game. I watched, and I watched everything yesterday.
- 38:46Speaker 1: You know, let's throw it down to the sideline reporter. Yeah,
- 38:49Speaker 1: so and so, Uh, you know, a tour is a
- 38:52Speaker 1: calf muscle. He's in, he's in, he's in a in
- 38:56Speaker 1: a medical tent. Who has a concussion? You know it.
- 38:59Speaker 3: It's just it's just crazy.
- 39:02Speaker 1: But the good teams, the good teams that have good
- 39:07Speaker 1: coaching staffs, coaching stats. I believe moving forward, the NFL
- 39:12Speaker 1: will be the most important thing besides having the franchise.
- 39:15Speaker 1: Quarterback coaching is going to be the most important thing.
- 39:19Speaker 1: You see it with Shanahan, you see with mcveighett with
- 39:22Speaker 1: the Rams, and you see it with Rabel in New England.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Josh McDaniel is a great offensive coordinator. He was a
- 39:31Speaker 1: lousy head coach, but he's a great offensive coordinator. Robert
- 39:34Speaker 1: Sala was a lousy head coach, but he's a very
- 39:37Speaker 1: good defensive coordinator and he's and he lost he lost
- 39:42Speaker 1: Freddie Warner, he lost Bosa, and you know, you how
- 39:47Speaker 1: many teams can lose guys of that caliber for the year.
- 39:50Speaker 3: But he's a good defensive coach and you gotta have that.
- 39:57Speaker 1: The system makes if you have an effective system, well
- 40:00Speaker 1: you could just put guys in there. Yes, you're not
- 40:03Speaker 1: going to get somebody as good as Bosa, get somebody
- 40:05Speaker 1: as good as Warner in there, but if they know the.
- 40:09Speaker 3: System, you can get by. And that's what they did.
- 40:13Speaker 1: And do you think Sam Donald spending that one year
- 40:17Speaker 1: in San Francisco in that system, even though he didn't play.
- 40:20Speaker 1: I think he played one game, didn't help Sam Donald
- 40:24Speaker 1: why he is now one of the best quarterbacks in
- 40:27Speaker 1: the NFL today. Being there with shanahanfree here, there's no
- 40:33Speaker 1: doubt my mind helped him both last year in Minnesota
- 40:37Speaker 1: and this year in Seattle. By the way, last night,
- 40:40Speaker 1: he looked like he looked like Peyton Manning.
- 40:42Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I mean we haven't gotten to the fact
- 40:45Speaker 2: that these former New York quarterbacks look like geniuses now
- 40:48Speaker 2: in different systems because Darnald's one of them. And again
- 40:53Speaker 2: we say why didn't the Vikings pick him up?
- 40:55Speaker 1: And the JJ McCarthy.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I really that kid deserves better, he really, It just
- 41:00Speaker 2: I feel sad for him actually the way that the
- 41:02Speaker 2: whole things cons as he got drafted, but Darnald should
- 41:05Speaker 2: have stayed with the Vikings. Yet they let him go.
- 41:08Speaker 1: Well, the Fuckings let Donald and Daniel Jones go.
- 41:11Speaker 3: They had the ball flesh, Yeah, yep.
- 41:15Speaker 2: And I thought how funny would have been in Minnesota.
- 41:16Speaker 2: Kept it going to Super Bowl and you'd have two
- 41:18Speaker 2: former New York quarterbacks in the Super Bowl.
- 41:20Speaker 1: With the Vikings. That would have been So you're right.
- 41:23Speaker 2: But I digress. You have him and then you have
- 41:26Speaker 2: well although Drake may has been great. So the Vito's
- 41:29Speaker 2: not really needed right now, but I think Tommy DeVito
- 41:31Speaker 2: could play a role on that Patriot team eventually if
- 41:33Speaker 2: they need him. But that's that's that's the point. You
- 41:36Speaker 2: have Donald doing well, and then you have the big one.
- 41:38Speaker 2: You have the Steelers Colts matchup of the day. Because
- 41:41Speaker 2: it's an upset, I mean, the Steelers being the coach
- 41:44Speaker 2: was labeled an upset, but to me, it showed what
- 41:48Speaker 2: two guys out of the New York system. And I've
- 41:51Speaker 2: always known Rogers was good. Obviously he's a Hall of
- 41:54Speaker 2: Fame quarterback, but I'm mostly in the Jones.
- 41:57Speaker 1: They both didn't thrive here in.
- 41:58Speaker 2: New York, and it's frustrating to watch these guys do
- 42:00Speaker 2: better outside of the city. It's like, what are we
- 42:02Speaker 2: doing wrong here?
- 42:02Speaker 1: Lou Well, not to rehash, but we'll we'll do it.
- 42:08Speaker 3: In thirty seconds, the Jets were two and three.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Their defense was still good. Salad still was in control
- 42:14Speaker 1: of the defense, even though even though Ulrich was a
- 42:17Speaker 1: defensive coordinator when Moody's when Moody fired him after Game five,
- 42:24Speaker 1: that was a mistake. And you talk about the team
- 42:28Speaker 1: giving up, they gave up for the most part. But
- 42:31Speaker 1: Rogers still played well. But you gotta remember now this
- 42:34Speaker 1: year and Pittsburgh does not have a great team, not
- 42:37Speaker 1: at all.
- 42:38Speaker 3: They're an average team. Their offensive line is weak.
- 42:41Speaker 1: They're rushing like two yards to carry, so they have
- 42:44Speaker 1: no running game. Their defense played great yesterday, but for
- 42:48Speaker 1: the most part has played.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Is not a good defense.
- 42:52Speaker 1: You know, last year there were twenty ninth in the
- 42:54Speaker 1: red zone, but with Rogers this year, they're in the
- 42:56Speaker 1: top ten. Of course he makes a difference the first
- 43:00Speaker 1: fallol Hall of Fame quarterback. And the other thing is
- 43:03Speaker 1: it's now two years since the Achilles ten then, so
- 43:06Speaker 1: he's healthier, he's able to move out of that pocket
- 43:09Speaker 1: because their offensive line.
- 43:10Speaker 3: Isn't very good.
- 43:12Speaker 1: But yeah, you're right. I know that if if Rogers
- 43:16Speaker 1: was the quarterback of the Jets, they wouldn't be one
- 43:19Speaker 1: and seven. They may not be seven and one, but
- 43:21Speaker 1: they wouldn't be one and seven.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Glenn could have used him there too, I think as well,
- 43:26Speaker 2: he don't want him. It was right, that's right, that's right,
- 43:30Speaker 2: and the fields is just rough. That's a tough scene.
- 43:33Speaker 1: And I do think the idea of not.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Using Tyrod Taylor enough is bizarre because he's a very
- 43:38Speaker 2: good quarterback. I don't care how old he is. He's
- 43:39Speaker 2: a very solid quarterback to use.
- 43:41Speaker 1: But he probably he will not be on the Jets
- 43:45Speaker 1: next year as the backup.
- 43:47Speaker 2: Well, we got some breaking news here on the One
- 43:49Speaker 2: Leg Up Sports network. And by the way, I won't
- 43:51Speaker 2: get into the election because there are some numbers I
- 43:54Speaker 2: want to get into. But before that, before that, my goodness,
- 43:59Speaker 2: Lula's turned Minilo. We did a pre recorded thing earlier
- 44:02Speaker 2: this week, but we got to throw that all aside
- 44:04Speaker 2: at the moment because the Jets fire sale is right
- 44:07Speaker 2: in front of us right now as we're talking, Louis.
- 44:09Speaker 2: It's happening on trade deadline day, Alex.
- 44:14Speaker 1: It is a total teardown of the Jets as we
- 44:20Speaker 1: as we know as we know them, not that they
- 44:23Speaker 1: were successful, but that trading away players who do you
- 44:26Speaker 1: think would be the cornerstone of the team. They were
- 44:29Speaker 1: trading away players that were under contract. They gave a
- 44:35Speaker 1: Sauce Gardner a six year extension and the same management
- 44:40Speaker 1: of Glenn and Mucci who gave him the contract. Muchie
- 44:45Speaker 1: trade them today? Now, did the Jets get fleeced in
- 44:47Speaker 1: the trade? They did not. Two number ones and a
- 44:51Speaker 1: Donnie Mitchell who was a disappointment for the Colts, a
- 44:56Speaker 1: number two draft pick last year at the University of Texas,
- 44:59Speaker 1: a great college. Okay, But I what I don't understand.
- 45:04Speaker 1: I didn't think that Gardener was going to be traded.
- 45:06Speaker 1: I mean, this one really surprises me, Alex. It doesn't
- 45:09Speaker 1: make sense to me, I don't think. And we still
- 45:12Speaker 1: have to digest a lot here over the next couple
- 45:14Speaker 1: of days. That I would have done it. I assume
- 45:17Speaker 1: the Colts contacted the Jets, because the Colts did not
- 45:22Speaker 1: expect to be seven and two. They expected to be
- 45:24Speaker 1: four and five somewhere in that neighborhood. So I assumed
- 45:30Speaker 1: the Colts contacted the Jets. I don't like the trade
- 45:34Speaker 1: from a Jets standpoint. I don't give you the reason why,
- 45:36Speaker 1: not that they got fleeced, because they didn't get fleeced.
- 45:39Speaker 1: So the same general manager and head coach who made
- 45:42Speaker 1: the commitment kasaus Gardner in the offseason to give him
- 45:46Speaker 1: a six year contract to make him a so called
- 45:49Speaker 1: franchise cornerback piece of the team is traded after seven games.
- 45:53Speaker 3: Remember he didn't play last week, so.
- 45:55Speaker 1: Only seven games. Really, these guys thought he was a
- 45:59Speaker 1: cornerstone piece, a foundation piece their they're supposed to be
- 46:03Speaker 1: talent evaluators. They gave them a six year deal. Seven
- 46:06Speaker 1: games into the season, they trade them. Do Jet fans
- 46:11Speaker 1: have trust in Muji and Aaron Glenn to uh make
- 46:17Speaker 1: these draft picks that they have two win, twenty six
- 46:20Speaker 1: and probably three. Because we don't have all the details
- 46:23Speaker 1: on the Quentin Williams trade to Dallas, I'm not sure,
- 46:28Speaker 1: so sure I trust them, Alex, I'm not sure. I
- 46:31Speaker 1: try I trust them. Now we all have the details
- 46:35Speaker 1: on the the Quinn Williams trade. Dallas like Quentin and
- 46:40Speaker 1: Williams when they traded Micah Parsons to Green Bay. Uh,
- 46:46Speaker 1: they talked to the Jets about a Micah for Quinn
- 46:50Speaker 1: Williams trade that didn't pan out. So Dallas who defense
- 46:56Speaker 1: is an abomination as bad as the Cincinnati Bengals made
- 47:01Speaker 1: the trade. Obviously, the Jets are starting are starting all
- 47:05Speaker 1: over again with this, with this regime, they better make
- 47:10Speaker 1: the right picks with all these number ones. They better.
- 47:15Speaker 1: So the Jets with two blockbusters on trade Day, Alex.
- 47:18Speaker 1: They used to NFL trade day used to be ho
- 47:21Speaker 1: hum the last four or five years. It's not anymore.
- 47:24Speaker 1: But there's not been a day since the NFL trade
- 47:27Speaker 1: deadline became a thing. Has there been a day like
- 47:32Speaker 1: this in the last four or five years. This is stunning.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Now, if you're a Jet fan, are you disappointed in
- 47:38Speaker 2: the fire sale? I kind of am because I looked
- 47:40Speaker 2: at it as well. They bring a new coach on,
- 47:43Speaker 2: you think it would all with gel Now it's a
- 47:45Speaker 2: fire sale. I mean, it's a very strange thing that
- 47:48Speaker 2: I'm watching unfold here and now. Bretze Hall is also
- 47:51Speaker 2: in the ruver mill. We'll see if he gets traded
- 47:53Speaker 2: before end of the day. Do you think that's gonna happen?
- 47:55Speaker 1: Well, I mean, let's face it, he's the one guy
- 47:58Speaker 1: who wasn't under contract. Gonna keep him. They keep the
- 48:01Speaker 1: two guys who are under contract, And there was no
- 48:05Speaker 1: free agency attached to this. Well, we gotta get rid
- 48:07Speaker 1: of Scotty because he's gonna be an unrestricted free agent.
- 48:10Speaker 1: That was not the case for Sauce Gardner and Quentin Williams.
- 48:13Speaker 1: That is the case for Breecee Hall. So I assume
- 48:16Speaker 1: in the next and it is two sixteen right now,
- 48:21Speaker 1: I assume by four o'clock, in the next hour and
- 48:23Speaker 1: forty four minutes, Briesscee Hall will be traded, probably for
- 48:27Speaker 1: a number four pick, a number four, number five pick.
- 48:30Speaker 1: That's all they're gonna get for him. Unless you know,
- 48:33Speaker 1: that's all they're gonna get for Breese Hall. So those
- 48:36Speaker 1: great draft picks, those draft picks that the Jets hit
- 48:39Speaker 1: on Sauce Gardner, Quinn Williams, probably Breese Hall, they're all gone.
- 48:46Speaker 1: They're all gone. So You're right. It's a it's a
- 48:49Speaker 1: total tear down. And as a Jet fan, I'm not
- 48:53Speaker 1: very happy. As a football observer, I'm not very happy
- 48:57Speaker 1: even if I was just as an impartial person. I
- 49:00Speaker 1: don't understand what's going on now. They got to replace
- 49:03Speaker 1: all these football players and uh, as we know, I
- 49:07Speaker 1: don't care if you're the best talent evaluated in the world.
- 49:10Speaker 1: It's hit and miss. We've seen it.
- 49:14Speaker 2: We've we've seen why these other trades, and I'm seeing
- 49:17Speaker 2: a couple of other things besides the Jets today talking
- 49:22Speaker 2: about why these other trades are so important, like the
- 49:25Speaker 2: Jaguars getting this Jacoby Myers's actually I mean, I thought
- 49:27Speaker 2: he would be a great fit on the Giants if
- 49:29Speaker 2: they were to go for it. But of course the
- 49:31Speaker 2: Giants and nowhere to be found, probably because they're two
- 49:33Speaker 2: and seven so they're not really found on this deadline day.
- 49:36Speaker 2: But I remember Jacoby Myers being talked about a lot
- 49:39Speaker 2: coming to the Giants at one point.
- 49:40Speaker 1: Did you hear that, you know, the Giants coming to
- 49:43Speaker 1: the Jets and the training camp.
- 49:46Speaker 3: Uh, And he's going to Jacksonville.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Jacksonville is what Jacksonville's formed for, you know, they're they're
- 49:53Speaker 1: in it, so they're in play for the playoffs. The
- 49:56Speaker 1: division isn't isn't isn't the difficult so it may it
- 50:01Speaker 1: makes sense for them. Again, looking at it from a
- 50:07Speaker 1: Dallas point of view, Quinn Williams is not going to
- 50:12Speaker 1: is not going to be the person who turns the
- 50:16Speaker 1: Dallas defense into the Doomsday defense of the seventies. And
- 50:20Speaker 1: they also made a they made a trade for Logan
- 50:22Speaker 1: Wilson and they only had to give up a seven
- 50:24Speaker 1: round draft pick in the Cincinnati Bengals. And he'll help
- 50:28Speaker 1: the Cowboys, but he's also he was he was a
- 50:31Speaker 1: key guy in their Super Bowl, the Bengals super Bowl
- 50:35Speaker 1: run three years ago. I don't know if he's definitely
- 50:38Speaker 1: not that same player, but ken those two guys helped Dallas.
- 50:43Speaker 1: I mean, Dallas was dominated by the Arizona Cardinals last
- 50:46Speaker 1: night and their defense couldn't get the Cardinals off the field.
- 50:51Speaker 1: But are the Dallas Cowboys better today than they wore
- 50:54Speaker 1: last night? I guess I guess they are. But they're
- 51:01Speaker 1: going nowhere, Alex now, I mean as now, I'm just
- 51:04Speaker 1: seeing some more information on the trade at Quinn Williams trade.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Apparently a Cowboys first round draft pick and the second
- 51:13Speaker 1: round draft pick. I don't know if it's next year
- 51:16Speaker 1: the year after. I assume the first round draft pick
- 51:19Speaker 1: is next year. So that would give the Jets three
- 51:21Speaker 1: next year and two in twenty seven. Does that help? Yes,
- 51:25Speaker 1: it does help. They can combine these picks if they
- 51:28Speaker 1: see a quarterback to move up in the draft.
- 51:32Speaker 2: But again, we have seen even great quote.
- 51:35Speaker 1: Unquote great organizations with great talent, skilled people like San
- 51:41Speaker 1: Francisco trade up give up picks to get to Trey Lance,
- 51:47Speaker 1: a total NFL bust. So there is This is non
- 51:51Speaker 1: exact science. You gotta be good in your talent evaluation,
- 51:55Speaker 1: and Alex, you also have to be lucky. So I
- 52:00Speaker 1: he still don't understand why the Jets did this today,
- 52:04Speaker 1: but they did, and every Jet fan has to live
- 52:08Speaker 1: with it love whether they agree or disagree.
- 52:13Speaker 2: Well, I mean, so you don't think Garret Wilson or
- 52:16Speaker 2: you know, not feeling you don't think Garret Wilson's on
- 52:18Speaker 2: the block either. I mean, is there more that we
- 52:20Speaker 2: could see that it's gonna surprise us? Or is that it?
- 52:23Speaker 1: Well, like I said Quinn Williams, that had been talked
- 52:28Speaker 1: about other teams calling the Jets a sauce gardner. No,
- 52:33Speaker 1: that had not been talked about that other teams were calling.
- 52:37Speaker 1: I assume that the Colts called the Jets probably within
- 52:41Speaker 1: the last twenty four hours. I don't think this was
- 52:44Speaker 1: This was talks that were going on for weeks. So
- 52:50Speaker 1: if I don't think Arrett Wilson will be traded, it
- 52:53Speaker 1: could be. He could be so upset right now he
- 52:57Speaker 1: could have called his agent and have his agent called
- 52:59Speaker 1: the Jets and say, hey, get me the hell out
- 53:01Speaker 1: of here. I don't know. Like I said, there's still
- 53:04Speaker 1: an hour and a half, so anything can anything can happen.
- 53:10Speaker 1: But they traded the AFC Defensive player of the Year
- 53:16Speaker 1: three years ago, a guy want of a few guys
- 53:19Speaker 1: to make first team All Pro corner in his first
- 53:23Speaker 1: two years in the league. They trade a first a
- 53:28Speaker 1: first team or All Pro defensive tackle, and now they
- 53:34Speaker 1: traded for potential potential, and most of the times when
- 53:40Speaker 1: you trade for potential, the coach and the general manager
- 53:44Speaker 1: usually don't succeed.
- 53:48Speaker 2: That's the thing on the Giants front. We're just waiting
- 53:50Speaker 2: to see if Russell Wilson gets traded today or what
- 53:53Speaker 2: happens there.
- 53:54Speaker 1: I mean, there could be a trade the Giants man
- 53:55Speaker 1: that we don't know about yet, right, And I can't
- 53:58Speaker 1: believe with all these quarter back injuries that Russell Wilson
- 54:02Speaker 1: and or Jamis Winston are still on the Giants. Do
- 54:07Speaker 1: the rest of the league think so little of Russell Wilson,
- 54:09Speaker 1: who I think could still play a little bit and
- 54:11Speaker 1: Jamis Winston, who you know who can fill in? Do
- 54:16Speaker 1: they think so little these guys that they don't even
- 54:18Speaker 1: want to call the Giants? But remember apparently apparently Cincinnati
- 54:24Speaker 1: called every team in the league before they made the
- 54:27Speaker 1: trade for Joe Flacco, but they didn't call the Giants.
- 54:31Speaker 1: So what does that tell you if that if that
- 54:34Speaker 1: report is true, Really, it's really strange, Alex.
- 54:40Speaker 2: I don't know. We're gonna have an update later in
- 54:42Speaker 2: the day, but I want to get your instant reaction
- 54:44Speaker 2: to on Terminal's take about this, because yeah, it's just funned.
- 54:50Speaker 2: I have to it's shocking you bring a new head
- 54:53Speaker 2: coach and that coach wants to trade. I just don't know,
- 54:56Speaker 2: and it just feels like more suffering for jet because
- 55:01Speaker 2: what are you gonna get from the draft?
- 55:02Speaker 1: I don't know that it's like they're not sticking. The
- 55:07Speaker 1: draft is a crap shoot. I mean the Bear remember
- 55:10Speaker 1: the best trade up to get Trapitsky. He was gonna
- 55:13Speaker 1: be the next great thing and he's nothing. He's a backup.
- 55:19Speaker 1: You know, we see him a thousand times. So we'll
- 55:24Speaker 1: have to wait and see. Maybe finally, Uh, the these
- 55:28Speaker 1: pixel work out for the Jets. Hopefully they do. I
- 55:33Speaker 1: just wouldn't have done what they did today, that's all,
- 55:36Speaker 1: especially with guys under contract.
- 55:39Speaker 2: It's not like Quinn necessarily doesn't motivate people to go
- 55:42Speaker 2: to the stadium the rest of the season, right, I mean,
- 55:44Speaker 2: it's just none.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Again, unlike other sports gate receipts in the NFL don't
- 55:51Speaker 1: mean that much because they get so much money from TV.
- 55:56Speaker 1: They can have two people in the stadium paying for
- 55:58Speaker 1: tickets and it's not going to hurt them, like say,
- 56:01Speaker 1: if it was a team in the National Hockey League.
- 56:05Speaker 1: So it does, it doesn't matter. But uh, and again
- 56:12Speaker 1: I don't feel sorry for Aaron Glenn because he made
- 56:15Speaker 1: this trade along with Daron Moogie. Don't think Mujie didn't
- 56:18Speaker 1: make this trade without Aaron Glenn's input. And the other thing,
- 56:22Speaker 1: I think it's immense Aaron Glenn, even if just go
- 56:26Speaker 1: one and fifteen and moves the next the rest of
- 56:29Speaker 1: the games thirty five to seven, Aaron Glenn's gonna be
- 56:32Speaker 1: back next year. That's what that I think. Is another
- 56:36Speaker 1: thing as a result of these of these trades today.
- 56:42Speaker 2: Well, it's certainly shocking. I thought Sauce was gonna be
- 56:45Speaker 2: here for a long time. By the way, and I've
- 56:47Speaker 2: said this before, but this way, you go to Woodbridge
- 56:51Speaker 2: Brewing and I gotta throw a compliment to them because
- 56:53Speaker 2: they had Sauce a few year years ago. This way
- 56:55Speaker 2: you go to these events because you never know if
- 56:57Speaker 2: these guys are going to be here the next year.
- 56:58Speaker 1: Literally, happy to write, Alley, you are right, a lot
- 57:02Speaker 1: of moving parts in pro sports nowadays.
- 57:07Speaker 2: While I got Nester, then he got you know, traded
- 57:10Speaker 2: or let you know, he went to Milwaukee in the
- 57:11Speaker 2: off season. I mean, they're just amazing how these things
- 57:13Speaker 2: end up happening. So that being said, Lou and my
- 57:17Speaker 2: voice sounds a little down, it's just because I'm shocked,
- 57:20Speaker 2: That's what it is. It's more shocked than anything else,
- 57:22Speaker 2: not upset, just like.
- 57:24Speaker 1: What that's doing. That's what I'm thinking in my head.
- 57:27Speaker 2: The whole afternoon, and that's what I've been thinking, what
- 57:29Speaker 2: are the Jets doing? And of course it's the same
- 57:33Speaker 2: team that fired a guy six weeks in after coming
- 57:35Speaker 2: back from London. I mean, this is the same team
- 57:37Speaker 2: that did this last year, firing a guy. So I'm
- 57:39Speaker 2: not surprised. I'm just shocked though.
- 57:42Speaker 1: Yeah, but that was an owner's decision.
- 57:44Speaker 3: This is front office decision.
- 57:46Speaker 1: This is football operations decision. And like I said, this
- 57:50Speaker 1: is moujie and uh.
- 57:54Speaker 2: Now, and you know, I'm more of a Giant fan,
- 57:56Speaker 2: but I love Breese Hall. If he gets traded, I'll
- 57:58Speaker 2: be really upset because if.
- 58:00Speaker 1: He doesn't get traded by four o'clock, that would be
- 58:03Speaker 1: another shock today, shocked as shocking as as these trades were.
- 58:07Speaker 1: If he doesn't get traded, because he is a free agent.
- 58:10Speaker 1: Uh and if they franchise him, they gotta pay him
- 58:13Speaker 1: within the top five percent of the league's average running backs,
- 58:17Speaker 1: and that's like fourteen five million dollars. I mean, it
- 58:21Speaker 1: would be the same. It would be the same as
- 58:24Speaker 1: when the Giants didn't re sign Barkley because they were
- 58:28Speaker 1: That would have been ridiculous if they gave him all
- 58:30Speaker 1: that money, you know, and again, you're right about bres Hall.
- 58:34Speaker 1: If Breesce Hall is on a team like the Eagles
- 58:36Speaker 1: were last year, brees Hall can have one of those
- 58:39Speaker 1: amazing years. He's that talented.
- 58:45Speaker 2: Just another former you know it. Speaking of former players
- 58:49Speaker 2: on different on the outside of New York. Imagine you
- 58:52Speaker 2: get Daniel Jones on the offensive end and then saw
- 58:56Speaker 2: Us on the defensive side of the ball, taking the coach.
- 58:58Speaker 1: All the way to the division. Look, they look like they.
- 59:00Speaker 2: Could be a conference championship team this year.
- 59:03Speaker 1: I mean, may not win it, but they'll be in
- 59:05Speaker 1: the game. I think so. Oh absolutely. And what you
- 59:08Speaker 1: just said, I thought about it. I said, boy, Daniel
- 59:10Speaker 1: Jones that corner quarterback, and saw Us Gardner their shutdown
- 59:17Speaker 1: corner back. Very I mean, this is what sports is, buddy,
- 59:22Speaker 1: It's crazy. And then the big one.
- 59:24Speaker 2: And so I'm watching CBS obviously the Bills and Chiefs,
- 59:28Speaker 2: and we'll talk about this all the time.
- 59:31Speaker 1: The regular season, the Chiefs do, the Bills have.
- 59:33Speaker 2: The Chiefs number a little bit more, and then when
- 59:35Speaker 2: the postseason hits, the Chiefs are a different animal. But
- 59:38Speaker 2: Alan needed that win. He needed that win because I
- 59:41Speaker 2: think he had to show the league and the Conference.
- 59:44Speaker 2: His team is still for real. He's not gonna let
- 59:47Speaker 2: that loss against Drake May and the Patriots show that
- 59:50Speaker 2: they're now not the top dog. They needed to win
- 59:53Speaker 2: last night to prove a point, and they did. By
- 59:55Speaker 2: the way mahomes uncharacteristic interceptions, I was a little surprising
- 59:59Speaker 2: to yes. But my point to all this is the
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Chiefs are now in the hunt, and I'm like, we
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: never hear them in the hunt. Normally they're right there.
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: What's the difference with the Chiefs this year?
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: I mean, obviously Zavier Worthy was out for four games,
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: Rashid Wallace, Rashid Wallace, Rashid Rice was suspended for six games.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: You should have been suspended longer in my opinion, bute,
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: And I mean he he's back. He makes a difference.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Plus the fact, with those offensive weapons you have Andy Reid,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: football's best coach and football's best offensive play caller. That's
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: the thing. When you were watching like the Giants and
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: the forty nine ers yes day and you're watching the Chiefs,
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: they run such great schemes. They keep the defense off balance.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: And by the way, just got back to the Giants
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: for the second their defense was supposed to be a
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: strong point coming in their defensive line. All their defense
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: is d for disaster.
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: They were ranked. They were like a highly ranked defense
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: coming in and oh my god, rule Carter and it
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: improved Burns and improved you know, healthy Cavean Thimbideaux, who's
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: now very frustrated.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: I saw some of that. You know, they're they dexter Lawrence.
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: They had they have the tools. I mean, the point
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: was this year Dabel had the tools.
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: To succeed and it just has not manifested.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: And maybe that's why he gets out because.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Injuries aside, and I know neighbors is a big loss too,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: and my goodness, course, but you can.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: Do the loss, Alex, because you wanted Dart and him
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: uh to have a full season of getting to know
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: each other and and Dabell got and they got hurt
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: in the first game. That didn't help Dart. By the way,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: Dart has to stop in the shading contact, he really does.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: Of course he's gonna end up.
- 1:02:01Speaker 5: He's gonna end up one of these guys who's getting
- 1:02:04Speaker 5: a concussion after concussion. I mean yesterday he initia contact
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: four or five times instead of just getting himself up.
- 1:02:12Speaker 3: If you want to stay, if you want to be
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: around the sleep for many years.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: I know you're a young kid and you're aggressive. You've
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: got to protect your body, and Mahomes does that better
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: than just about anybody in the league in my opinion.
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: All right, well, I want to think about these trajectories
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: of the two teams, Patriots and Niners, because Mac Jones
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: has been looking at me. I mean, wow, what choose
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: to fill and Max's been doing great. And then on
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: the other side, Drake mayhow the Patriots draft that has
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: led this team back into relevance again. And let's face
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: if the Patriots were not relevant for the last few
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: years and he's finally brought them back to relevance. Kind
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: of worked out for both trajectories of both players here
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: and both both quarterbacks here, louis your career.
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: I mean, last year in Jacksonville, Jones looked terrible. But
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: now again I hate to go back to a great
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: offensive coach like Shanahan is. But now he's in the
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Shanahan system and he looks better. He looks confident. And
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: the guy was old, banged up yesterday going into the game.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: So I got to give him a lot of credit
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: and he will be afraid free agent. I believe at
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: the end of this year, I think it was only
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: one year deep. With all of the quarterback injuries and
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: the lack of quality quarterback play in the NFL, Somebody's
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: going to give him a shot. There's no doubt about it.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: And Drake May, who was good last year under the
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: old regime, under the Vrabel Josh McDaniel regime, is thriving.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: If you told me that the New England Page's going
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: to be seven to two, I would not have taken that.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: Bet. Alex, they're gonna win ten games, They're gonna win
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: ten eleven games.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: I mean it's hard, it is.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: And for the Patriots to beat I mean, to beat.
- 1:04:09Speaker 2: The Bills was very much a statement games. But want
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: to Jaguars, what's the deal with this record kick?
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: Last night? Well? How long? How far was it?
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: Because I was busier to engineering radio, so I didn't
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: get it cleanse it the whole thing.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Well, I actually start live sixty eight yards, which is
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: hard to believe.
- 1:04:26Speaker 5: A camb Little hit it for Jacksonville at the end
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: of the half, and in Vegas it was indoors okay,
- 1:04:35Speaker 5: so you know, pristine conditions, But that doesn't matter.
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: He's still thick. It's sixty eight yards. Nobody had ever
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: done that before Alex, who had been good but from
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: seventy three seventy four yards and in in a preseason
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: exhibition game I forgot against whom he kicked a seventy
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: yard field goal.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: I think you're the one that's on the show that
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: you're gonna watch these pickers go deeper and deeper in
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: seventy you are.
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: And I believe that in the next five years they're
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: gonna do something. They're not gonna change the point value,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: but they might they might narrow the goalpost. I think.
- 1:05:10Speaker 2: I'm not sure.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: This is just me talking. But one other thing from
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: the NFL from yesterday again, I watched a lot of
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: NFL yesterday, and I was and I was watching Seattle
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: and the Commanders, and it was thirty eight to seven,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: seven forty to go, and Jayden Daniels gets hurt, dislocates
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: his elbow in his non throwing on But I guess
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: they'll they'll find out today if they give himn MRI,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: how bad the injury is, if he's gonna eat surgery,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: how long he's gonna be out By Alex, I'm watching
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: that game and Seattle throughout the game was overpowering the
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: offensive line of the Commanders. Jayden Daniels should not have
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: been that game when they were getting their butt kicked
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: thirty eight to seven, so late in the fourth quarter.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: You gotta protect your asset. He's the best player on
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: their team and they didn't protect their number one asset.
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: That that's on.
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: That's on Quinn, that's on. That's that's on the Commanders.
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: It really is.
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: And my that's my take on it. You know, you
- 1:06:26Speaker 3: see these guys get hurt so easily.
- 1:06:28Speaker 5: See dric Ce Jay Stroud for Houston left with concussion
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: and never came back.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: You gotta protect you guys.
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: So yeah, we'll see this location. It's just it's just awful.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: And uh, the Commander is another team that's had a
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: very odd year and some of the Eagles. I mean, look,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: the Eagles might have beat the Giants, but they are
- 1:06:56Speaker 2: not the same team as they were that won it.
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: And I know there's a lot of turmoil in that
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: locker room, but everything this year almost like baseball of
- 1:07:06Speaker 2: it feels so up in the air. I don't know
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: what's going to land where because the Chiefs.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: Are not who they are.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: I think the Chargers are really staking their claim. Finally,
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: the Herbert Harbaugh era is here, Louis.
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: And I love it.
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: I love to see Harbaugh succeeeded at the NFL level
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: because I loved him as a coach in Michigan and
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: we both knew when he went to La Boy he
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: was going to turn around to justin Herbert and boy
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: has he ever?
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: Yes, actually I actually thought they would be better than
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: they are so far.
- 1:07:36Speaker 3: But that doesn't mean the.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: Second half of the season they can't They can't help
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: their game. But you mentioned the Eagles, Howie Rosman and
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: general manager must recognize what me and you recognize and
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: everybody else recognize if they're not the same team. The
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: trading deadlines tomorrow at four o'clock. He's already made three trades.
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: He got Michael Carter the second from the Jets, who
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: was once get to the best nickel corner in the league.
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: The Jets were not going to resign him. His game
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: had taken a notch back from from his high point,
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: so they needed defensive back. They got him Saturday. They
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: got they got Alexander from from who they got They
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: got him in the trade and then this morning from
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: the Dolphins, they got Jalen Phillips in the trade and
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: edge rusher at the top of his game. That's going
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: to help them. So the Eagles management recognizes what you
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: were talking about. And I mean they made three trades
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: and Alex. Up until like five years ago, NFL trade
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: deadline was nothing.
- 1:08:44Speaker 5: There was no drama list, there was eighteen trades made.
- 1:08:48Speaker 5: I guess they'll be around the same today.
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: Are the Jets going to trade Quinnon Williams, Quincy Williams,
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Breece Hall, Michael Clemens.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: I know Brece Hall being stuck in the system, and
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: he's such a brilliant running back. It's just it's frustrating
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: because I love that guy. I love the way he
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: can push the ball at the field, run the ball.
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: At the field, and it's just he's not been able
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: to do it. It seems like it's that fans are
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: pissed at Woody Johnson's back in control of the team.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Put it that way. Yeah, again, that dumping on ownership
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: in pro sports most of the time is in my opinion,
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: is dopey. I mean, Woody Johnson didn't snap Aaron Rodgers
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: this Achilles two years ago. If that didn't happen, who
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: knows what the Jets might have done that yet, because
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: that was Jet's best team in twenty two. Their defense
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: was at the top of its game. And remember this
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: is truly a year to year league. What wasn't twenty
- 1:09:50Speaker 1: two was not the same in twenty and I'm sorry
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: I was twenty three, not twenty two. What a roster
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: in twenty three is not the same as a roster
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: in twenty five. It's a week to week league. It's
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: a year to year league. And you know we have
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: you know, we have seen it. We have really seen
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: it now more than ever, so have the rest of it.
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: You know, we got the rest of the season to
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: see how they play out. But a couple of things
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: before we go. I just want to throw a person
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: of all.
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: I mean, I was up to BC by the way
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: over the weekend to watch that's right, my Notre Dame Irish.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: I was very excited about that. And look, here's a
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: team that's missing Riley Leonard. Okay, he's doing regadings the
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: Colts backup, but I mean the Irish just have not.
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: They finally adjusted, but it was taking a slow start
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: to adjust to a rookie quarterback. And I don't think
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: it's a frection, a fault freeman. I just think it
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: was circumstanced. The guy goes, don't you think.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: Don't you think they're getting good quarterback play?
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: Now they finally are. I mean, there were some questionable
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: plays on Saturday, but I love this Jeremiah love Is
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: ninety four yard run. How awesome was that?
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: I still think they can make the playoffs.
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: I'm really hoping they do.
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: It's a little shaking they can do.
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: I do too. I agree.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: Their game at Pittsburgh will be interesting. That's really their
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: only tough game left on the schedule.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: But I agree.
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: I think that that triple Blair was great. I actually
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: found my Irish tribe, if you will, of fans and
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: by the way, the Irish travel man.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: They have friends and family that.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: Come from all over, even in the areas they play,
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: And like I'm watching this near the sideline, officials of
- 1:11:32Speaker 2: Notre Dame are coming over to the stands because they
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: know somebody in the stands.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: I mean, it's like a family feel. And I don't know,
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: maybe because I'm around.
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: The Irish more and just follow them more, I feel
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: that I don't think you get that much around other
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: colleges that way though, where like literally you're on the
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: road and you know people of the visiting team like that.
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: And that's the impact of Notre Dame. You don't know
- 1:11:50Speaker 2: how many people who were even wearing BC shirts that
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: wanted to watch them come out of the tunnel.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: It was pretty awesome.
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: Well, Notre Dame is a national team and they have
- 1:12:00Speaker 3: fans everywhere.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: The Southeast Conference teams have great fan bases, great traveling
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: fan bases.
- 1:12:09Speaker 3: But they're more regionalized.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: But but Notre Dame is coast to coast, and even
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: Alex was that way when it was that way fifty
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: years ago, sixty years ago, one hundred, fifty, seventy years ago.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: The Subway they used to call it the Subway alumni
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: in New York, even though most of some Subway alumni
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: didn't go to Notre Dame. They just rooted for that.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: I didn't go.
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: I just love Notre Dame.
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: Yeah, tell you, And that's that's that's everywhere.
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: They got great running game too, Alex. They got that.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: And that's interesting because I was asking people about the
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: stadium because oh, you know, the BC has a legendary,
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: a very high name for coach, and it's Bill O'Brien, who,
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: of course was on the Patriots staff.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: So it's tough.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: I mean, I think maybe now that he's back in there,
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: he'll revitalize the Boston College. But you know, as much
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: as the Irish are proud of their heritage, I noticed
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: how proud Boston College.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: Is of their history.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: I mean they have a lot of names that graduated
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: from and played with the Eagles.
- 1:13:11Speaker 1: Yeah, no, they do. And of course they're the greatest
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: player ever to play for Boston College, Doug Flutie, the.
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: Hail Mary, and I mean I didn't know it didn't
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: happen on that field, but it happened at the I
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: think they are Orange Bowl. Yeah, where the vandals on
- 1:13:29Speaker 2: the field. I think as that throw, it was crazy
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: as that whole thing unfolded.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: But yeah, So just a couple of just a couple
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: of things before we go here, Just a couple a
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: couple of quick, cocky things. Matthew Schaeffer complete his first month.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: He's the NHL Rookie of the Month. Last night he
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: scored two goals. He's the youngest man ever to score
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: two goals in an NHL game the youngest defenseman you know,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: eighteen years like fifty six fifty seven days old. He's remarkable,
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Alex hees. He does the big things, he does the
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: little things. Plays on the number one power play unit.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: He kills penalties. I just hope the Islanders aren't overusing them,
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: and they are starting to take some runs at him,
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: which I'm not happy about. And I wish Matt Martin
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: was still able to play because they could use somebody
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: like that on their team to protect them. But the
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: kid's been tremendous. The Rangers had a great road trip
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: three in one. There's six to one and one on
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: the road. Now, if they could score some goals at
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: home and win some games where they're four and one,
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: that'll help. And I think they have a long home
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: stand coming up, so that should help them a little bit.
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: And the Devils, Jack Hughes is playing at an MVP
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: level through the first thirteen games, and if he stays healthy,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: he could win the MVP and and bring the Devils
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: to a deep playoffront. And they did it a smart
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: thing over the weekend by signing the Jacob Marx from
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: their goaltend. It was going to be a free agent
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: at the a two year extension. But we'll get more
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: into the hockey as is now baseball is behind us. Well.
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: I have three dates in mind, and they started in
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: January when the Mammoths come into town. I want to
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: watch at least.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: A couple of those games because.
- 1:15:35Speaker 2: They're finally coming in as a team name not not
- 1:15:37Speaker 2: just due to hockey club. So I want to check
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: out the mammoth first trip into New York City. And
- 1:15:44Speaker 2: I love history like that. I remember watching the Golden
- 1:15:46Speaker 2: Knights when they played their first game at Barclays against
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: the Islanders.
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: That was pretty interesting.
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: So I like those kind of nuggets of yes, so
- 1:15:55Speaker 2: do I. And by the way, for one hundred the
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: year of the Rangers. Maybe they are finally coming around here.
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: They finally had a great trip on the coast. Now
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: they come back to Carolina or to play Carolina tomorrow night.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: But I love when this team is gelling and I
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: feel like, finally they got some things there. JT.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: Miller scoring a couple of goals on that. I mean,
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: it's good.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: You want your captain to be involved, and I just
- 1:16:19Speaker 2: feel like they, I don't want to say, lacking the
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: captain department. But the Truba disaster, they need to learn
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: from that, and they got to make sure that, you know,
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: Miller is the right guy for the captain.
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: I feel like they slapped that captain thing on Truba.
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: It didn't work out.
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: Miller has a lot to live up to here because
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: they want a good captain. I would want a good
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: captain to lead this team.
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I wonder if Milla got the captaincy because he
- 1:16:44Speaker 3: has a long term contract.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: I would have given it to tro Check, but I
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: think Vincent Trocheck, I think he's a free agent at
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: the end of the year. I'm not sure about his
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: contract status, but I would have given it to troe Check.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: But you know whatever, the Rangers just got to get
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: the range back at consistency from their big guys. That's
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: what they gotta do. I mean, they can't blame their goalie. No.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: Egor is always on his head for this team. It's
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: how that happens for him. But we'll have to see,
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: all right, Louis, Well, there were there were a couple
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: of other things, I think, but I guess tonight's biggast
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: opening night for all the teams.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: And we're here.
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: College basketball is here. NBA is here, the Knicks finally
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: hitting the Bulls, who actually looked good this year their
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: first loss.
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: Uh, it's gonna be fun.
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: I always think of of the hockey and basketball in January,
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: but with these teams in the NFL, you know, not
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: doing well, you think about these other teams faster than
- 1:17:46Speaker 2: than than normal. Like, to me, we should still be
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: in football mode. But I think a lot of people
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: want to jump into, uh, into the next sport because
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: they see what's going on here with our local sports.
- 1:17:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree with you absolutely. Let's face it, if
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: the Jets were seven and one and the Giants was
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: seven and one or six and two or whatever, it
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: would be a whole different mind.
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: And that's why you see in the middle in the
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: first couple of games of NBA season, they're already talking
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: about how cat is being utilized on the Knicks. I'm like,
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: we never talked like that in November, you know, like
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: it just kind of interesting.
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: So it's all here.
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: I know, the Knicks have a lot to live up
- 1:18:23Speaker 2: to two. They want to go past what they did
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: last year with the new coach who I actually like.
- 1:18:29Speaker 2: I think this new coaching system is going to work out.
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: For the Knicks. I just have a feeling. We will see,
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: We'll see what happens. But they have a good team.
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: They have a deep team. Oh that's what I was
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: trying to think of.
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: So we're talking about Dom Mannually he's on the contemporary
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: baseball Can you delve into that for a second.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: With the contemporary ballot?
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: Is I've never heard of this before, So.
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: I believe if you're talking about the old era or
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: whatever it's called. Uh, he has to get twelve out
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: of sixteen votes to get in, and that's how That's
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: how the controversial Harold Baines got in for the White Sox.
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: And Don manningly was a better player than than Harold Baines.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: So I'm so it was Keithan Hannah's So that's I
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: believe that's what you're talking about. And uh, but I
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: would have to do a little more research. I didn't
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: realize that he was up for Uh for that, ask him,
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: Clemens Bonds.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: It's that kind of class that's up for a vote.
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:19:40Speaker 2: It's kind of interesting that they're on a ballot to
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: maybe get in. And look again, the steroid air may
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: never ever get voted in, but I think a chance
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: to be on a ballot.
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: I think they have to be giving a chance to well. Again.
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: The one thing that that manningly doesn't have to worry about.
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: He wasn't you know, he wasn't taking any performance enhancing drugs.
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: It's the the name right here, the Twins five six
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: contemporary Baseball era ballot, Bonns, Clemens, Delgado, Kent, Maddingly Murphy,
- 1:20:15Speaker 2: Sheffield and Valenzuela and now valan Zuela. I'm surprised he's
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: not in.
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: That's interesting.
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: So just give me those names again.
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: You got Bonds, Clemens, de guy.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: All right, stop it. Bonds and Clements this steroid guy.
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: So I'm going to put them on the back burner.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: So give me the rest of the guys.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: Del Gato, Kent, who had a great career at Jeff Kent.
- 1:20:39Speaker 3: I think I think Jeff Kent should be in the
- 1:20:41Speaker 3: Hall of Fame.
- 1:20:43Speaker 2: Maddingly Dale Murphy another legend.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: I mean that guy, I don't know how.
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: And then I think Manning and Murphy should be.
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: In, and Sheffield and the Valenzuela and the House Brandon
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: Valenzuela not been in that. I always thought he was
- 1:20:54Speaker 2: a Hall of Fame.
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: Ra Yeah, I'm not so sure about Valenzuela.
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: Sheffield did five hundred and nine home runs and he
- 1:21:02Speaker 1: is the only player who.
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: Said five hundred home runs who's not in the Hall of.
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: Fame as of yet. I guess, I guess if you're
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: going to use as the criteria, he should be in.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: But again, where's Steve Garvey, Where's Keith Hernandez, Steve Hey?
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: Steve Garvey deserves to be in the Hall of Fame
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: before I know, you're a Yankee guy, and he was
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: great for five years before Manningly, I mean Steve. I
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: think Steve Garvey had like a three eighty four postseason
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: average for his career. So I don't understand. Again, I
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: don't understand these guys who aren't in. And Dale Murphy
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: should should be in my opinion, and Jeff Kent should
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: be in. And Delgado is as borderline as close as
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: you can get. I mean, if you said to me,
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: who do you want del Gatto or Harold Bangs, who's in?
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: I want del Gatto in nine geame. I mean he
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: was a great offensive player.
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: In Toronto when.
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: Him and Belchand were on the Mets and they just
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: kept almost together. It was quite a thing.
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: I mean, obviously he would go in to Toronto because
- 1:22:14Speaker 2: that's where he made his bones. But I mean, my goodness,
- 1:22:16Speaker 2: I was at the game of that doubleheader and that
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: first game against the Yanks and they both when he
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: had RBI.
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: Oh my god, I think he hit like the second
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: deck at one of those games. But wow, he was
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: He was a great he was a great run producer.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: Well, I guess I gotta wish done manually good luck
- 1:22:35Speaker 2: on Thursday because he's gonna be at the MLB store
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: with rawling, so I gotta I gotta check in with him,
- 1:22:39Speaker 2: and you know, tell him I was pulling for him
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: this weekend, and and I wish him good luck on
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame because he deserves to be in there.
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: I met him once or twice.
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: He used to come to NETS games, and he's a
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: he's a sweetheart of a guy. You know, he's a
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: really nice, soft spoken guy. So, uh, he's a When
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: I first saw me Rollerblade, he's like, oh, you rolled
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: it all?
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: And I said yeah, And then he saw me again
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: it American Dreams for Pinstripe Priddy. He's like, oh, are
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: you gonna start ice skating too? Because the ice skate
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: rink was right next to merow Right.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: You know, he's.
- 1:23:15Speaker 3: So Alex Alex. So how many pictures do you have
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: with maddingly.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: At least one. I have one one of them right now.
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: Maybe we'll get another one, and I have a feeling
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: of it.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: Max Freed on Thursday because he's the local guy that
- 1:23:28Speaker 2: won the gold Glove, and well deserved by the way.
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: I also think he's in the Cy Young running. But
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: don't tell anybody I said that.
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: I just think the way he stepped up for Cole
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: firstly was cy Young worthy, but then he had a
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: great season blister aside nineteen and nineteen wins right up
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: there for for u Cy Young. But win it right there,
- 1:23:50Speaker 2: I mean he's gonna win.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: I think we'll have to see.
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: Anything's possible though, and that Tarik school Ball think we
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: have to keep an eye on because now there's a
- 1:23:58Speaker 2: whole thing whether he's going to be rated and I
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: don't know. I think the Tigers should protect that guy.
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: Really yeah, but again, look who is.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: I believe his agent is. I think it is, Yeah,
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: And that's that. That's always the uh fly in the
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: ointment with these guys. As like said, he thinks he
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: runs baseball, and I think he you know what he
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: might Oh no, he does.
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: He is also I know he told Soto exactly what
- 1:24:26Speaker 2: to say last year too. With all of that, of course, absolutely,
- 1:24:30Speaker 2: but we'll see.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:24:32Speaker 2: It just doesn't feel like a sexy free agency right now.
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: But well I did say last year was obviously Soto.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: This is sort of an alf year.
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: But I see a lot of.
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: Free agents out there from the Yankee, so we'll see
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: who gets picked up. All right, Lowell, there's been a
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: great conversation about everything, but there's one other thing I
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: have to talk about. Do you know what happened on
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: this date early morning of November third, twenty sixteen, November
- 1:24:59Speaker 2: twenty sixteen.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: What happened?
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: Honestly, it was a game that started on November two
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: in Cleveland between the Okay, yeah, well everybody thinks they
- 1:25:11Speaker 2: clinched on everybody thinks they clinched on the second, but
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: they really clinched at the morning of the third because
- 1:25:16Speaker 2: they had all that rain delay. And I still believe
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: the raindeway helped the Cubs in a lot of weight.
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: Well, you're probably right, because uh uh, Hayward gave gave
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: him a boost boost talk in a locker room, you know, big,
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: a big rally talk, and I end up winning an
- 1:25:39Speaker 1: extra innings and uh.
- 1:25:42Speaker 3: Uh it was a great seventh game, Alex, another great
- 1:25:45Speaker 3: seventh game.
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: He's at a time and time again.
- 1:25:49Speaker 2: Joe Madden almost out almost managed himself a World Series loss,
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: and they all right management.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:25:59Speaker 2: Oh, and a lot of those guys. Some of those
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: guys are still playing, which is awesome to see. I mean,
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: Rizzo just retired this year, but Hovey Bayens, Wow, what
- 1:26:09Speaker 2: a season with Chris Bryant. He's the guy that I
- 1:26:12Speaker 2: really thought would keep going. But he's just had a
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: really sad said and you know, second part of baseball
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: after the Cubs, And that's tough because.
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: Yeah, he really really did. And I remember it was
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: it was the ground of the third uh uh Bran
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: to win that first World championship. And I'm sure you
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: know this.
- 1:26:33Speaker 2: The Cubs wrote a letter to me and my family
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: after my dad passed, honoring him, and the Rockies announcer
- 1:26:40Speaker 2: Jeff Jerry Shemmel took that letter and had Chris Brian
- 1:26:46Speaker 2: sign it for me, So I'll oh right, yes, that was.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: Very Christmas, very kind of Shimmel and that was a
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: very nice gesture of Bart the Cubs organization, and and for.
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: Chris actually agreed to sign, it's pretty special too. And
- 1:26:59Speaker 2: then Anthony Rizzo to see him in twenty four to
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: thank him for that World Series.
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: I mean, it can't get better than that. And I
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: know my dad had a hand and all that, because
