Latest / Early Edition with Ryan Bridge / Matt Terrill: Former Chief of Staff for Marco Rubio says there is still more work to be done for peace in the Middle East
Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: A big peace summit underway in Egypt, hostages released, Palestinian
- 0:03Speaker 1: prisoners handed over. So far, so good. Here's Trump addressing
- 0:06Speaker 1: is Rael's parliament today. This guy's are calm, the guns
- 0:09Speaker 1: are silent, the sirens are still, and the sun rises
- 0:13Speaker 1: on a holy land that is finally at peace. Right
- 0:17Speaker 1: Joining us this morning is Matt Tyrell, former chief of
- 0:20Speaker 1: staff for Marco Rubio's twenty sixteen presidential campaign.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Met.
- 0:23Speaker 1: Good morning, Good to have you on the show.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Great to be with you, Thanks for having me.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I know that the photo ops are happening. There's a
- 0:30Speaker 1: lot of grip and grinning going on. But is it
- 0:32Speaker 1: too early to say this is a peace deal?
- 0:36Speaker 2: Well, look, I think this is a piece deal. Obviously,
- 0:39Speaker 2: more work needs to be done. But the first step
- 0:41Speaker 2: and getting to this piece deal was getting these hostages home,
- 0:44Speaker 2: and it's great to see that happen here. So this
- 0:47Speaker 2: is a really an amazing thing to watch. The first
- 0:50Speaker 2: step to full peace in the region, really in terms
- 0:54Speaker 2: of end of this war as well, was getting these
- 0:56Speaker 2: hostages home. Obviously, more work needs to be done, but
- 0:59Speaker 2: you're seeing President Trump already underway. And the bigger element
- 1:02Speaker 2: of this is that this isn't just President Trump doing this. Obviously,
- 1:05Speaker 2: this would not be done, it would not be achieved
- 1:07Speaker 2: without President Trump. What he's done has been brilliant. He
- 1:11Speaker 2: put together a coalition of Arab and Muslim countries, for example,
- 1:15Speaker 2: to come to the table, put pressure on Hamas and
- 1:18Speaker 2: help make this happen. But ultimately, if it was of
- 1:20Speaker 2: a President Trump's leadership, this would not be happening. Right now,
- 1:24Speaker 2: you have a I think a great opportunity here to
- 1:26Speaker 2: the forge lasting piece. But this is a piece deal.
- 1:29Speaker 2: More work needs to be done, but a great dating
- 1:31Speaker 2: thesag is home.
- 1:32Speaker 1: There is a lot of talk this morning about who's
- 1:34Speaker 1: gets the credit that kind of thing. How's it playing
- 1:37Speaker 1: out in the media in America? Are they, you know,
- 1:40Speaker 1: are those more left wing outlets happy to say this
- 1:43Speaker 1: is down to Trump and congratulations mister President.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Well, look, you're even seeing Secretary former Secretary of State
- 1:50Speaker 2: Hillary Clinton and former Vice President Kamala Harris praise President
- 1:55Speaker 2: Trump in terms of what he's accomplished here. I think
- 1:57Speaker 2: Republicans and Democrats are like recognize that this was a
- 2:01Speaker 2: major challenge and look, throughout my lifetime, I've never seen
- 2:05Speaker 2: peace in the Middle East and you're seeing it now
- 2:07Speaker 2: today with the return of these hostages. And what you've
- 2:10Speaker 2: seen here is that this didn't happen overnight. You know,
- 2:13Speaker 2: President Trump has been working on this for months, and
- 2:16Speaker 2: even in his first term with the Abraham Accords, you
- 2:18Speaker 2: saw him making progress and trying to get peace in
- 2:21Speaker 2: the Middle East. But ultimately we saw on his second
- 2:23Speaker 2: term here was him go to the Middle East and
- 2:25Speaker 2: meet with leaders in Saudi Arabia, guitar the UAE. You know,
- 2:29Speaker 2: he's had relationships in the region but also also worldwide,
- 2:34Speaker 2: and you're seeing those leaders today in Egypt shaking hands
- 2:38Speaker 2: with the President Trump, you know, taking pictures with President Trump.
- 2:42Speaker 2: This was a brilliant move by the president. He put
- 2:44Speaker 2: together an effective coalition of world leaders to come together.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Par took me those world leaders in neighboring countries to
- 2:51Speaker 2: put the necessary pressure on Hamas and to help make
- 2:54Speaker 2: this day happen. But it started with President Trump making
- 2:57Speaker 2: these relationships happen. And it comes down and relationships. You know,
- 3:00Speaker 2: negotiation is about relationships. And President Trump has strong relationships
- 3:06Speaker 2: with these Arab and Muslim world leaders, strong relationships with
- 3:10Speaker 2: leaders around the world. That on top of that, you know,
- 3:13Speaker 2: the bombing on Iran. You know that that was instrumental
- 3:16Speaker 2: in helping you get here. So it's been a multipart
- 3:18Speaker 2: pron approach by President Trump. The credit goes to him,
- 3:20Speaker 2: the Secretary of Rubio, Steve Wickoff, Jared Kushner, Evanka Trump,
- 3:24Speaker 2: but with so many other people within President Trump's administration
- 3:27Speaker 2: who helped make this happen. It's been a team effort.
- 3:29Speaker 2: But again I go back to only one world leader,
- 3:32Speaker 2: in my opinion, could have gotten this done, and that
- 3:34Speaker 2: world leader's name is President Donald J. Trump.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Appreciate your time, Matt. Matt Terrell, who's fullmer chief stopped
- 3:39Speaker 1: to Mica Rubia for more Familily edition with Ryan Bridge.
