- 3:21All right, everybody, we are back here for our monthly live
- 3:24stream broadcast of the Random Heathen Ramblings podcast,
- 3:29coming live at you on Facebook and YouTube.
- 3:31If you're watching, feel free to say hi in the comments down
- 3:35below. We've already had a couple of
- 3:36folks on the YouTube channel check in.
- 3:38So to more, sorry, more oof. And Michael Thacker over here on
- 3:45the YouTube channel. Halen, welcome to the two of you
- 3:49and thanks for coming into this this monthly live stream.
- 3:54So as I did last month, this is going to be this week's episode
- 3:59of the Random Heathen Ramblings podcast.
- 4:01And so for all of you listeners, when you catch this later on in
- 4:04the week, when it comes out on Thursday, don't forget that if
- 4:07you want to get in on the action, I do these lives once a
- 4:11month, usually at a fixed date. So this one is, you know, the
- 4:18second, sorry, third Monday of the month.
- 4:22And I'll probably look to do it somewhere around that same time
- 4:26each month going forward. So that way you can kind of be
- 4:28prepared. Is it the second, third Monday?
- 4:33No, it's the, it's the, it's the third Thursday, second Monday.
- 4:36So anyway, somewhere around the second or third Monday of the
- 4:39week is when we'll probably end up doing these live streams and,
- 4:43and get some interaction with the folks out here in the
- 4:46various social media places. So this week coming up, this
- 4:52weekend coming up is going to be our tribes winter nights.
- 4:57I am very much looking forward to that.
- 4:58We got some new guests and friends coming over this
- 5:01weekend, October 19th, to celebrate the the the coming of
- 5:07the. The Norse or dramatic winter.
- 5:10Historically speaking, winter nights was seen as the beginning
- 5:14of the Germanic New Year. So for us in the Germanic
- 5:20heathen beliefs, this is kind of our New Year's Day, New Year's
- 5:26celebration, because the way that the Germanic people's
- 5:29reckon time was not necessarily by, you know, days of the week
- 5:35or birthdays of the year, they would they would calculate their
- 5:39life and their time living as as how many winters they survive.
- 5:43So winter nights was important for that.
- 5:46And it was quite often times meant to be a exclusive family
- 5:50gathering or, or, or family thing.
- 5:53Some others would. And you know, some other regions
- 5:56they were a bit more public and inclusive of other people.
- 5:59But yeah, we're we're very much looking forward to that.
- 6:04Hey there David Clin down there in Columbia, TN says, hey, good
- 6:08to see you again and got got to break ground on a future long
- 6:12haul and Norse village very cool.
- 6:18So, yeah, awesome man. Congratulations on that and
- 6:23looking forward to to hearing more or seeing more progress
- 6:27when and as you're. Able to to share that so.
- 6:30Yeah, if you ever want to come on the show and and talk about
- 6:33the progress of things going on down there in your neck of the
- 6:35woods, feel free to shoot me an e-mail and everybody else
- 6:39that's, you know, catching this. If you're interested in wanting
- 6:41to ramble with me on a podcast one time, you can you can do it
- 6:47one of two ways. You can always e-mail me
- 6:49midgardmusingstn@gmail.com or you can call the Midgard Musings
- 6:54podcast hotline and that number is 615-671-9832. e-mail helps me
- 7:01keep track of things and helps keep us in a line of
- 7:04communication. But even if you don't want to be
- 7:06on the episode and you just want to drop a voice message and
- 7:09leave me your thoughts, you can do that by calling into that
- 7:12hotline number and we'll. Have your voice put out here if
- 7:17you want on the on the show. So again, this is a live stream.
- 7:22I'm going to be taking some questions.
- 7:24I know a couple of folks have posted their their questions if,
- 7:29if they're not able to join the live stream, they they, they,
- 7:31they left a comment on the on the Midgard Musings Facebook
- 7:36page or YouTube channel post. So I'm going to be going back
- 7:40and forth between that. But before we get started with
- 7:43with those things, I am going to be, what am I saying?
- 7:51I'm going to be kind of recalling or, or reminiscing a
- 7:54bit about this past weekend's celebration with the, the folks
- 7:59of the Raven Moon Hearth Kindred and in Tennessee for their
- 8:04Shadowmoot event. I've been talking about it now
- 8:06for the last maybe a few months on and off and pretty regularly,
- 8:10regularly now for the last couple of weeks at least, or
- 8:14more kind of advertising, getting the word out, you know,
- 8:18drumming up some attention for it.
- 8:22And that was just this past weekend on Saturday the 12th.
- 8:25So we all got a chance to, you know, meet together at the
- 8:30Barfield Crescent Park here in Murfreesboro, TN.
- 8:33It was a bit of a different thing planned to be a different
- 8:37thing based on the fact that, you know, they, they, they, they
- 8:40couldn't hold the, the feast and, and the camping and, and
- 8:44everything on the scale that they've been used to kind of
- 8:47doing it for over the last 10 years.
- 8:51As I recall, their Chieftain, Greg said that the either next
- 8:56month or beginning of December is, is the Hearth's 11th year
- 9:00running. So very excited that they still,
- 9:06despite the challenges of them not being able to do it in in
- 9:10the space and at the area where they normally do it, they were
- 9:13still able to to find a way. Michael Thacker says that since
- 9:17winter nights is this week, what would be a great dish to add to
- 9:20the feast? Spread your opinion as well as
- 9:23everyone else's. Yeah, that's a great question,
- 9:25Michael. We have been doing a sort of
- 9:28unofficial, traditional thing every year since last year,
- 9:31really. So this is our second year kind
- 9:33of repeating the theme. We do like a potluck, soup, Stew
- 9:38and chili kind of thing. So we encourage people to bring
- 9:40something that is along the soup, Stew or chili line.
- 9:45Of course we can, you know, we're, we're happy to take, you
- 9:47know, whatever, you know, breads, desserts, fruits,
- 9:49vegetables, you know, stuff like that, things that just kind of
- 9:52make us feel like, you know, we're, we're, we're, we're
- 9:55stocking up for the winter months and we're, and we're
- 9:57eating good and kind of, you know, feasting in that really
- 10:00Hardy sort of way. So soups and stews and, and, and
- 10:03chili, you know, it's great this time of year.
- 10:05It's it's that type of food that really warms your bones.
- 10:09So that's what we like to do and being, you know, making it a
- 10:12potluck sort of thing doesn't put the burden too heavily on
- 10:16any one person, you know, so everybody's kind of pitching in
- 10:19and contributing in that sort of way.
- 10:22So that's what that's what we do.
- 10:24And that, you know, interestingly enough, that's how
- 10:26the, the Shadowmoot event last last weekend with the folks
- 10:29Raven Moon Hearth and, and the surrounding areas, you know,
- 10:33that's how they did their event. They usually with their public
- 10:37events, they will, you know, charge at the door for the
- 10:39ticket fee for the camping and, and getting your meals and, and,
- 10:42and all of that. And so since this year they
- 10:45weren't doing that, there was they, they, they nullified the
- 10:48entry fee. There were no.
- 10:49Ticket sales to buy to. Come to the event.
- 10:52But what they did instead make a potluck thing where they asked,
- 10:56you know, if you're going to come, please, you know, bring
- 10:58some food item or items or, you know, plates or whatever.
- 11:02And we had a really great spread.
- 11:04I made a a a vegetable lentil soup.
- 11:07There was some awesome chili. The hearth Max, They're they're,
- 11:11they're scald. He did a pulled pork.
- 11:14You know a. Smoked BBQ, pulled pork BBQ,
- 11:18which was delicious. Some folks also, you know, there
- 11:21was fruit, there was vegetables, there were yummy desserts, kinds
- 11:26of cookies. My wife did a sweet potato bake.
- 11:32My Thule, he brought a variety of cornbread, which was great
- 11:36for, you know, to accompany soups and stews and and that
- 11:40sort of thing. So it was, it was a really
- 11:41great, you know, just late, late summer, early autumn spread to
- 11:47get into the spirit of things. And aside from that, one of the
- 11:51folks who I've had on this show before, he has a music site or
- 11:56page and a YouTube channel called Ascaldicworks.
- 12:00And, and Blake Russell, who, who is the, the man behind the name
- 12:05Skaldic works. He lives in Alabama and he came
- 12:09up for the day from Alabama with his, his big Davu drum and some
- 12:15other hand drum and his tackle harp that he plays.
- 12:18And so we had some really cool like Nordic Germanic kind of
- 12:21sounding music and drumming and stuff going along throughout the
- 12:25afternoon. And it was an all day thing, you
- 12:29know, So I got there early around 8:30 or so in the
- 12:32morning. Most everybody else came a bit
- 12:34later on in the day. But Mike, Mike, I had a class
- 12:38that I ended up teaching that morning about Stumble historical
- 12:42Heath and Stumble, which for those of you that are listening
- 12:45and watching this episode when it comes out and for the folks
- 12:48watching this live now, if you didn't get a chance to make it
- 12:52to Shadowmoot and you're, you're interested in what the class was
- 12:57about, I did film that whole thing.
- 13:00So tomorrow at I think it's premiering on the Midgard
- 13:05Musings YouTube channel at I believe it's 6:00 PM Eastern,
- 13:095:00 PM Central time. So tomorrow evening on the
- 13:14YouTube channel, that class will be airing on the, on my channel
- 13:19there. So you can watch everything that
- 13:21was talked about regarding the myths and facts of historical
- 13:28Heathen Sumble. And that was a great opportunity
- 13:32to talk about this, right, or this ritual, this ceremony that
- 13:37is very important in Heathenry because as it turned out, there
- 13:42was a, there was a need for people to kind of know what that
- 13:45was very immediately due to the fact that the the evenings
- 13:50ceremony or ritual for foreshadow moot was a impromptu
- 13:55stumble wasn't a wasn't couldn't have been assembled in the
- 14:00traditional sense because we were outdoors.
- 14:02Granted, we were under a pavilion with the roof and
- 14:05stumble traditionally has to be done indoors with walls and all
- 14:08of that around you. But we did a sort of, you know,
- 14:11impromptu stumble or what sometimes gets called the Yeva
- 14:13Shippa or, you know, there wasn't any alcohol or beer
- 14:16drinking going on, but it was a, you know, a lot of the elements
- 14:21of traditional stumble were present.
- 14:23None of that was filmed, of course, because it was, it was
- 14:25meant for the attendees and all that there.
- 14:27But it was a really, really interesting thing to to to teach
- 14:30a class about stumble and then not only participate in a sort
- 14:36of stumble thing later on that evening for the events, you
- 14:40know, ritual. Yeah.
- 14:42So not only did I did I get to participate in that, but I was
- 14:46asked to lead it and to sort of run with it, which is the first
- 14:53for me. I you know.
- 14:54All of the stumbles that I've done have been in the kind of
- 14:59the privacy of of the hearth or the home of myself.
- 15:03Or are there? Hearts and homes that I've
- 15:05attended where I've participated in the stumble and somebody else
- 15:09did did the work did the leading of it.
- 15:12This was my first time doing something of a public nature
- 15:16with, you know, I think at the table that were seated were
- 15:22close to 15 people, not including myself.
- 15:27So it was, it was a nice little crowd that got got a chance to
- 15:32participate. And some of some of the the
- 15:35folks that were there, you know, had they had never gotten the
- 15:38chance to experience anything like that before.
- 15:41They've never, some of them hadn't even heard of stumble
- 15:44before being a part of 1, you know, So getting a chance to
- 15:48educate the public and then show them by deed, you know, what
- 15:54this whole thing means and what it's all about was a huge honor.
- 15:58So I mentioned it already, of course, at the event, but for
- 16:01any of the members of the Raven Moon Hearth Kindred who are, are
- 16:05watching this now or, or listening to this or watching
- 16:08this later, I do want to say a very special thank you for
- 16:13entrusting me with this high honor and this responsibility
- 16:16to, you know, be the, the stumble giver at one of your
- 16:19events. I, I said I, it was, it was a
- 16:23high honor for me to fulfill that need and, and to be there.
- 16:29And I think everybody from, from the feedback that we got, you
- 16:32know, that day, it was, it was enjoyable.
- 16:35It was, you know, not too shabby for, for an impromptu sort of
- 16:39thing. Because again, that, you know, I
- 16:41had no idea going into that up until sometime late Saturday
- 16:46morning, early Saturday afternoon that this was
- 16:49happening. The plans for that, you know,
- 16:54for the events ritual had changed very suddenly due to
- 16:58unforeseen circumstances. And it, it, it was brought to me
- 17:02like right then and like, hey, would you be able to do this?
- 17:05And so it was like a, it was a challenge, you know, in a way
- 17:09for me to really be there and show up and be present for
- 17:14those, for those attendees and, and, and for everybody.
- 17:17So a high honor to me. Thank you to the hearth once
- 17:20again for allowing me that honor.
- 17:25So. After Stumble, you know, it was
- 17:29it was time for people to pretty much just, you know, socialize
- 17:32and and go about their business and and clean up and then head
- 17:38home. I think you know, besides Greg
- 17:41and Max and Rebecca and. Maybe a couple of other
- 17:47stragglers like myself and my bonus kid Kevin, like we were
- 17:50one of those, some of the last people to leave.
- 17:52You know, we helped pick up some of the last remaining things
- 17:55that needed to be either thrown away or organized and loaded up
- 17:59in vehicles. Oh, and Don, yeah, Don was
- 18:01there, of course. So Greg and Don and Max and
- 18:04Rebecca, myself and Kevin, you know, we were some of the last
- 18:07ones to to leave, one of the 1st to get there and one of the last
- 18:11to leave. And that's appropriate, I think
- 18:14for. For the for those the hosts that
- 18:17are doing it and I, you know, I didn't have anything to do with
- 18:19the, the hosting of it. I was, I was there to attend
- 18:22like a lot of other people that came and surprisingly had to be
- 18:29there for, for more than just just more than just a class and
- 18:33more than just socializing. So.
- 18:35It was great. Had a wonderful time.
- 18:37The weather was, was beautiful, you know, yeah, the sun was a
- 18:40little bit warm, but we had shade under the canopy and the
- 18:43air was, was cool, especially getting on into the evening.
- 18:48Yeah, you know, it, it was, it was very nice.
- 18:50And, and so for, you know, a big shout out to the hearth.
- 18:55Like once again, they, they usually do these things at a
- 18:58very specific, in a very specific way with the camping
- 19:01and, and all of that stuff. And they weren't able to do that
- 19:03this year. But they still, you know,
- 19:05persevered and endeavored to do something.
- 19:08And it's better to do something than to do nothing, you know.
- 19:11So Congrats to them and and good on all of them for doing such.
- 19:18All right, so now that I kind of updated all of you with with
- 19:22that little little update and story, I am going to go and look
- 19:30at one or two comments that I know came.
- 19:35Across for this live stream. And again, for anybody else that
- 19:43does want to comment, feel free to do so down below.
- 19:47But this, this question or this statement is a bit of a load.
- 19:52It's a paragraph. So I'm going to kind of read it
- 19:54slowly, try to digest it a bit. I've read it once just because I
- 19:57saw it and and try to give some thought to the answers.
- 20:01For this SO. I really have no way of showing
- 20:05it on the screen because it's all on my social media.
- 20:07I'm not going to just blast this all on the screen here, but this
- 20:11message or this comment came from from John.
- 20:18I don't know Deslate, Deslate. I don't.
- 20:21I'm sorry John, for mispronouncing the name.
- 20:23He says that in the heathen mindset where does where does
- 20:28extreme depression fit and could work?
- 20:34I mean in the basis of one thinking that they are absolute
- 20:40dirt and deserve to die in pain and suffering and not going with
- 20:45the notion of everything will be better but they can function in
- 20:51society but are seriously so effed up that they can't have
- 20:58relationships and when they do it's through extreme debauchery
- 21:04and violence. Along with that, how can it fuel
- 21:06someone to strive past their own simplistic BS to become better,
- 21:14but not destroy everyone around them in the process?
- 21:20And, he says, and medication and therapists are not the answer.
- 21:27So. Heavy duty stuff, right?
- 21:31Heavy duty, heartfelt things that John is talking about here,
- 21:36you know, we're talking about, I guess what he's, what he's
- 21:39trying to convey is, you know, from a heathen mindset, you
- 21:43know, folks that are heathen dealing with extreme depression,
- 21:49who I guess manage their depression through like the, the
- 21:57self deprecation or self deprecating acts or, or, or, or,
- 22:02or thoughts. You know that they are, they're
- 22:04dirt. They're not deserving, they're
- 22:06not worthy. They should just continue to
- 22:08live and then die in pain and suffering.
- 22:12Don't even worry about trying to have a relationship.
- 22:14But if you do, then just you know.
- 22:18Live it up and and and be disruptive and destructive and
- 22:22all of these things. You know, how can it fuel
- 22:28someone to strive past their own BS and become better?
- 22:33And we're not talking about, you know, going to a therapist or,
- 22:36or taking pills or drugs or something like that, that he's
- 22:39saying that, you know, that's not the answer.
- 22:43You know these? Types of topics and these types
- 22:45of subjects are, are very, they are, they're very sensitive and
- 22:51you know. As somebody who's who's been
- 22:54given a chance to to. Get involved with not just my,
- 22:59you know, local community, but also with others in other parts
- 23:05of the world and other parts of the country and meet together in
- 23:07person to talk about things like this and, and to, and to have a,
- 23:12an awareness in a sense of it, you know, I'm very much in tune
- 23:15with mental. Health.
- 23:23With, with a lot of the people who I interact with, you know,
- 23:26everybody has things going on in their lives and everybody deals
- 23:28with things a little bit differently.
- 23:30But I definitely think that I have a, a more intertwined
- 23:39connection with people who are battling the negative side of,
- 23:44of mental illness and, and, and depression is a big one.
- 23:47You know that that can be a. Crippler.
- 23:50Now, when somebody. Takes on the approach to be
- 23:57self-destructive to take on the approach of you know, you know,
- 24:09any, any relationships that one has with somebody is is is not
- 24:13in a wholesome sort of way. It's let's let's live it up.
- 24:16Let's party, let's get trash, let's get messed up.
- 24:19Let's fight. Let's you know all of these
- 24:20things. I mean, if if we look at it just
- 24:23from a from a human being perspective, not even.
- 24:27You know, a, a heathen mindset, it's, it's very anti peace, it's
- 24:32very anti order, very anti what it what, what a good life would
- 24:42be, right? Objectively speaking,
- 24:44holistically speaking, what a good life should be.
- 24:49You know, free of violence, free of debauchery and and excess,
- 24:54excess of anything excess, excessive eating, excessive sex,
- 24:57excessive food, excessive drink, everything.
- 25:01And you know, things need to have a balance.
- 25:03Things need to have moderation for it to be.
- 25:05A good life. This this is very nihilistic.
- 25:14It seems you know this is a, this is a, This is a view that
- 25:16that is. You know what was me?
- 25:19What was everything? Everything sucks, You know, it's
- 25:23nihilistic, it's misanthropic. It you know, everybody sucks.
- 25:25Everything sucks. And you know, I don't know, I,
- 25:31I, I guess from a heathen mindset like it doesn't, it
- 25:34doesn't bode well to maintain that idea when.
- 25:41You know that that's anti order, that's anti what the gods
- 25:45represent in our belief with with the gods as the holy powers
- 25:48that they are. There is order, there is
- 25:51structure, there is, you know this, I guess, sense of peace,
- 25:59right? That they, they, they want, they
- 26:01don't want the constant strife, the constant struggle, even
- 26:04though there is that always, that's always happening in, in
- 26:07the nature. I mean, knee dog is always
- 26:09gnawing at the roots. There is those agents of
- 26:11entropy. You know, Fenrier will
- 26:13eventually be released and break free from his, from his chains
- 26:17and, and, and, you know, bring the, the Ragnarok on the gods
- 26:21and, and mankind. And so it's, it's, it's
- 26:23inevitable, it's there, but there's always a balance.
- 26:26There's always something that that brings it back to a state
- 26:31of peace and. I don't know, man, like this is
- 26:38a tough one for me because I, I, I choose not to.
- 26:42I, I can't, I just, I, I don't know, I can't.
- 26:45No matter how bad things get for me, I always, you know, and I'm
- 26:49just going to say personally for me, you know, no matter how bad
- 26:52things have gotten for me over the years, I've always I was
- 26:54brought up in a way and that and that's.
- 26:56Probably a large part of the reason why I have the, the, the
- 27:00perspective that I have is this how I was raised or how I was
- 27:03brought up like I always have. I've had and, and maintained, no
- 27:07matter how bad it's gotten, I've always maintained that I need to
- 27:11learn what I can from this and I'm not just going to get
- 27:14enveloped and sucked in to this defeatist mentality or it's all
- 27:19bad and it's all, you know, pain.
- 27:25It's all suffering. Because as they.
- 27:29Said, you know it, you know, not going with the notion of
- 27:32everything will be better that they can function in society.
- 27:36So why, why isn't it going to be better?
- 27:39That's a choice. You're choosing violence, you're
- 27:41choosing destruction, you're choosing the chaos.
- 27:47You know, and again, this is this seems like a very
- 27:48specifically targeted. Thing, and I know I don't know
- 27:53the specifics of it, but when I hear stuff like this it just
- 27:56makes me think that, well whatever the situation is, if
- 28:00you want it to be different, if you want it to change, then
- 28:03change it. OK, if if you don't want to be
- 28:08fat anymore then stop eating so much food, Get up off your ass
- 28:12and exercise, Drink more water, be more active, do all the
- 28:16things that is going to change the situation of what it is.
- 28:21Right. That that that is understanding
- 28:27that things are with the way they are because of the choices.
- 28:30That we've made and sure there are certainly times or
- 28:33circumstances that are contributors to the thing where
- 28:38we are, you know, a victim, I guess you could say or you know
- 28:44the. A victim of the circumstance.
- 28:46But I think, I think the majority of, of times and I, and
- 28:50I mean that sincerely, I think the majority of times the victim
- 28:55is, is, is not truly a victim of anything other than their own.
- 28:59Decisions, their own deeds, their own actions.
- 29:02Yes, absolutely. There are times and there are
- 29:06situations where in an innocent victim is is harmed and and bad
- 29:11things happen to decent and good.
- 29:13Folk, I'm not delusional and I'm not in denial of the fact that
- 29:19you know, and I'm not victim shaming here when I say that
- 29:23yes, there are definitely. Times in in situations where
- 29:25they're, you know, true victims are experiencing negative things
- 29:29that that ruin their lives. I think again, though, the
- 29:33majority of the time is there, It's it's mostly my life sucks
- 29:36and it's nobody else's fault but mine.
- 29:39And if you're in denial about that or delusional about that,
- 29:42then you're not going to you're not going to find a solution.
- 29:45You know, you have to face those those hard things and those
- 29:49difficult things to be honest with yourself and realize, yeah,
- 29:54this is the way things are, is because of me, my decisions, my
- 29:59choices, my actions. All right, You know, so this is
- 30:05how I feel about it. I'm not a professional.
- 30:07I don't have professional background with psychology or
- 30:12anything like that. That's just how I feel.
- 30:15So I'm going to leave it at that and see if anybody else has
- 30:18anything to say. We have a question, though.
- 30:20Michael Thacker says, you know about the timing for a stumble.
- 30:23Would it be best at the beginning of a meet up before
- 30:25feast, during feast or after feast?
- 30:29I think from a historical perspective, timing wise, it's
- 30:35usually done during or after the feast.
- 30:40We do it after like we'll have our, we'll have our feast.
- 30:43We'll get our fill in, you know, after we bloat, we do our, we do
- 30:47our, we can all say religious or spiritual work.
- 30:51We, we do our, our ritual before we feast.
- 30:54We, we, we spend time. We, we, we do that thing in
- 30:57ceremony before we feast. Then we come in and we socialize
- 31:00and we feast. And then we we call the formal
- 31:02stumble to happen usually after that.
- 31:05And then, you know, I think that's, you know, somebody asked
- 31:11during the during the class. If if you can only do stumble,
- 31:17you know, like once a year and I said no, you can do it.
- 31:20You know, we know historically that stumbles were were done on
- 31:25the attested holy tides in the documented holy tides.
- 31:29So you know, there was always stumble at Yule and winter
- 31:32nights and then the secret bloat or victory feast, victory
- 31:36sacrifice. But I think that you can also
- 31:40have a stumble on a random Tuesday if you want, you know,
- 31:44if if the and and ensemble doesn't even have to be
- 31:47something that is done as a heathen observance of anything.
- 31:52You know, like I mentioned also during the classes, I have fire
- 31:56on the mountain coming up in like 10 days from now.
- 31:58By the time you guys are listening to this or watching
- 32:00this on the on the premiere on Thursday, it's it'll be less
- 32:03than that. It'll be a week because we'll,
- 32:06we will be arriving for opening ceremony on a week from this
- 32:09Thursday. So you're, we're, you know,
- 32:12we're going to be going up for that.
- 32:13And that is not, that is not a inherently heathen event.
- 32:15It's, it's a mixed, mixed bag of, of cultural beliefs and, and
- 32:24everything being brought to, to fire on the mountain every year.
- 32:27And the host of that event likes to have a stumble when we, when
- 32:33we feast the first night, you know, so either during or after
- 32:37the feast. I think is, is, is fine.
- 32:43I guess you know, every, every to each their own.
- 32:45But if you're looking for suggestions, there's mine.
- 32:50I would definitely say that if this is your first stumble to do
- 32:55or to lead some things, you definitely want to be aware of
- 32:59are anybody that's coming in there that you're, you know, not
- 33:06if, if anybody can come and do it and you're not intricately
- 33:11intertwined with their lives and they're and they're with yours,
- 33:15you know. So if they're a bit unfamiliar
- 33:17to you, you know, make sure that they know what it is that's
- 33:20happening, what's going on, the importance of the ritual and
- 33:24then what it represents and what it means.
- 33:27And also be aware that people who have had too much to drink
- 33:30or have had anything to to to partake of beforehand, that that
- 33:34that could alter their state of mind should probably not be
- 33:40getting involved with things like, you know, toasts and
- 33:43boasts and and then oaths, even because oaths are binding.
- 33:48And if you are inebriated and incoherent because of, you know,
- 33:54some sort of intoxicant that you've ingested, you've drank
- 33:56too much, whatever you could, you could be saying things
- 34:01outrageous. And if there's no person set to,
- 34:05to regulate that, if there's no fool or no, you know, you know,
- 34:09person to be in that position to, to control what's being said
- 34:14and to challenge things that are being said, it could go very
- 34:17badly for not just the person saying, doing those things, but
- 34:21for everybody else. That's their present.
- 34:22Because when, especially when it comes to oaths, you know,
- 34:26everybody is, is bound by, by by all of that.
- 34:31And you know, so those are some things that I would definitely
- 34:36be sure to consider and watch the video too when it comes out
- 34:39tomorrow, Michael, that it'll maybe help clarify or, or
- 34:43educate you on some things. I do cite some sources that you
- 34:47can check out For more information about Historical
- 34:51Heath and Stumble, as well as an article on a blog site that will
- 34:56really condense it all for you and and and help you collect.
- 34:59It because some of the sources that I that I cite are.
- 35:03To be honest, difficult to come by to get your hands on because
- 35:08there are rare and they are expensive.
- 35:11When you can, when, if ever, you can find them.
- 35:13One of the books that we end up talking about during the class,
- 35:16somebody just searched on Amazon for it and found it for like
- 35:20$900. It's crazy.
- 35:24All right, here, we got another question.
- 35:26They're all in runes on YouTube. So with the era symbol.
- 35:31Hello Jesse. Just wanted to say thank you for
- 35:32what you do. And others have made my path
- 35:36much easier to walk. Whoops.
- 35:38Know that your efforts make a great impact for us, that we all
- 35:42have a safe winter. Well, thank you very much there.
- 35:46The the, the, the writings are disappearing on the screen.
- 35:48And it's a little bit small for me.
- 35:49I know it starts with an S. Yeah, I know it's younger truth
- 35:55arc, so they're on YouTube and I appreciate that very kind
- 36:00sentiment and thank you for sharing that with all of us.
- 36:04I appreciate you watching and tuning in.
- 36:07And yeah, I. You know, I, I one of the things
- 36:12that I said, one of the things that I said during the the
- 36:17stumble, I can say we'll we'll just call it stumble aver ship
- 36:21is is is a probably more accurate term to use, but we'll
- 36:24just. Call the thing that happened at
- 36:26Shadowmoon. We'll just call it the impromptu
- 36:28stumble for the sake of for time and arguments.
- 36:32You know, one of the things that I, I felt that was was important
- 36:36to say. During all of that was, you
- 36:40know, some, some, some people feel like they are at a point in
- 36:47their life. And this was one of the things
- 36:49that was said during the stumble by somebody else, which inspired
- 36:52me to say what I'm about to say is, you know, we, we're not
- 36:55supposed to be here. You know, we, we weren't meant
- 36:58to get this far or, you know, I think one of the things that one
- 37:02person said was, you know, I ain't supposed to be here.
- 37:06And I and I get the sentiment. I understand that, especially if
- 37:11you live with a particularly violent or, you know, strife
- 37:19driven life, You know, there, there's been a lot of uprooting
- 37:23and moving or violence or, or just things that can, that can
- 37:26tear the, the, the spirit of the human soul down, you know, to a
- 37:31point of feeling defeated and and unworthy of anything that
- 37:35they, they can feel like. Well, then I, you know, what am
- 37:38I even here for? I, I, I, I'm not meant to be
- 37:41here. I shouldn't be here, but yet
- 37:44here you are right. And here we are.
- 37:48And when one of the things that I recalled about myself was
- 37:52that, you know, I, I was born dead almost 40 years ago.
- 37:57I'll be 40 next month. And I, I was back then, I don't
- 38:03know what it, you know, if this was just like a universal thing.
- 38:06But back then, whatever the due date of the child was, if, if
- 38:10you didn't, if you weren't born naturally and there weren't, you
- 38:14know, any complications seen up until that point.
- 38:17If they weren't, if you weren't born naturally on your due date,
- 38:19then the doctors are just like I just give it a day or two and
- 38:21he'll, you know, they got to come out eventually.
- 38:24So like my due date was November the 7th.
- 38:29I wasn't born naturally. I wasn't naturally born.
- 38:32There was no cesarean done, no surgery until the 11th.
- 38:37So five days later, sorry, four days later, I came out and I was
- 38:44a breached birth instead of being born head first.
- 38:46I, I came out walking. I wanted to walk out.
- 38:48Only the problem is, is that because I came out feet first,
- 38:52the umbilical cord had had wrapped itself around my neck
- 38:56and I, you know, I had suffocated myself.
- 38:59And because I was being born trying to breathe and not coming
- 39:02out head first, I was taking in all of the, the birth fluids and
- 39:05just I, I came out as I've been told this blue has a new pair of
- 39:09jeans and I and I was clinically dead.
- 39:15Now who shouldn't be here? You know, I mean, I by the grace
- 39:21of the gods and the strength of my ancestors and, and, and the,
- 39:24the skill, the might, the main of the, of the medical personnel
- 39:28there, the doctors, the nurses, whoever I am here.
- 39:32And I, I also didn't ever think that in this time of my life,
- 39:38you know, I had no idea what I would be doing or where I would
- 39:40be. But this certainly was not what
- 39:43I had in mind to be doing, you know, to, to be called upon at a
- 39:49public heathen event to lead a ritual, to lead stumble for
- 39:55people. You know, I, I, I never once
- 39:57thought in my wildest dreams that that was going to ever
- 40:00happen. I'm still surprised about it
- 40:05even now that that it did. You know, and I also didn't
- 40:08think that, you know, I'd have a, a voice or, or a presence as
- 40:13small as it is, or as it might be on, on social media to, to
- 40:18share things like this and to give recognition to people and
- 40:21to get answers for people that have these questions and to help
- 40:27guide or to help the mentor to help find things.
- 40:30You know, shoot, I, I'm a I'm a bonus dad now and I'm almost 40,
- 40:34you know, no kids with my own blood running around here, but
- 40:37I've got bonus kids. Never would have thought, never
- 40:41would have thought in my life that this would have been what
- 40:46the gods and my ancestors had in store for me.
- 40:50What the, what the, what the nor near wove into my thread.
- 40:55But what's interesting is, you know, when we do get these
- 40:57things, when we are given these threads woven into our life,
- 41:01it's is we have choices. You know, this is the thread
- 41:04that was woven for me. And on my choices, do I weave
- 41:08strength into this thread? And do I continue to, to fortify
- 41:11it and to strengthen it and to enhance it and to grow it?
- 41:15Or do I give up? And do I, you know, say, oh, you
- 41:17know, this sucks. I can't believe it.
- 41:19I'm, you know, I got to take care of this and I got to do
- 41:21that and I got all these responsibilities.
- 41:23And when, when, when, right. Oh, the world is terrible.
- 41:26Look at everything burning down, drowned, you know, floods and,
- 41:29and sickness and everything's terrible.
- 41:35Like, don't get me wrong again, I'm not delusional.
- 41:38I understand and I see these things.
- 41:40It, it makes me want to do even more though, Like it makes me
- 41:43want to be a voice of hope and a voice of encouragement and to,
- 41:49you know, help people to wake up and realize what they are
- 41:54capable of. And, and, you know, whether
- 41:57you're heathen or not, you have the, the strength within you,
- 42:02you have to tap into it. You have to call upon that.
- 42:04You have to reach back. Your ancestors can certainly
- 42:07help with that. And they want to, you know, they
- 42:12didn't get where they got through being all lackadaisical
- 42:17and, and, and, you know, nonchalant, like they put the
- 42:23work in and the work has changed over time.
- 42:27The work has changed over the years and we we live in a time,
- 42:32we live in a, a society, you know, where it's a little bit
- 42:37different now. But work is work, man.
- 42:38And, and if our ancestors put the work in to get them where
- 42:44they got, which by proxy got us to where we are, you know, if it
- 42:49wasn't for them, we wouldn't be here, you know, so, so, So what
- 42:53kind of a, what kind of a dishonor are we doing them when
- 42:56we say things about ourselves that are self deprecating?
- 42:59And then I shouldn't be here, man, your ancestors are
- 43:05observing you and they're watching you and they're waiting
- 43:07for you to do great things like they did, you know.
- 43:11And man, I, just, I, I, I can't bear the thought of failing in,
- 43:19in that endeavour. I can't bear the thought of of
- 43:23going forward without giving it my absolute freaking best,
- 43:27right? Even if I fall, even if I mess
- 43:30up, even if I make a mistake along the way that at least I
- 43:33know I did that, you know, that happened while I was giving it
- 43:37everything I got. I did the best I could, the, the
- 43:40best way I knew how or I, you know, and then, and then when I
- 43:45failed it, you know, when I, when I fell down, I, I, I
- 43:48learned from that mistake and I picked myself back up and I said
- 43:51now onward, right onward to the next, you know, get back up, try
- 43:57again. And I think that kind of ties
- 44:00into, you know, some of what John had said, you know, where
- 44:07the where, you know, what's a heathen mindset about it?
- 44:13I can try to find the the post is a little bit I think I got
- 44:19the gist of of what he was saying.
- 44:23But you know, some of the the way he was saying it was how to
- 44:28kind of read between the lines about it.
- 44:30But yeah. Like in a heathen mindset, where
- 44:32does, where does a extreme depression fit?
- 44:34I mean, it fits in everybody's life, whether you're heathen or
- 44:37not. The difference is, is you know,
- 44:42you know, you say that, you know, medication and, and
- 44:44therapists aren't the answer. Maybe they're not the answer for
- 44:47everybody. And maybe that maybe that option
- 44:51has already been been worked. But a lot of stuff like this,
- 44:57you know, you need people. You need people to, to build you
- 45:03up, to support you, to help you get through things to, to let
- 45:06you know that you can get better.
- 45:09You can be better, everything can be better, or, you know,
- 45:14things can be better. If you believe that they can't,
- 45:17it's because you won't do the work necessary for them to get
- 45:20better. You know, most of the time I
- 45:26felt I've learned that, you know, when, when people say that
- 45:29they can't do something, it's not because they're physically
- 45:33incapable or or mentally incapable.
- 45:39You know, it's not about their capabilities of doing it.
- 45:42It's about their desire. It's about where their heart is.
- 45:45It's about where they're, you know, where, where they put the
- 45:50the energy. If all you think is that you
- 45:53can't, well, then you've already accepted defeat.
- 45:56Can't means won't can't never did you know, and, and a lot of
- 46:04us, most of us are, are, are capable of so much more than we
- 46:09give ourselves credit for. And from a heathen perspective,
- 46:12if we're not doing that, our very best.
- 46:15And then what kind of example are we setting?
- 46:17What kind of how, how are we preserving our honor?
- 46:22How are we living honorably? You know, if the people around
- 46:28us, the people who love us, the people who because, and there
- 46:30are you, you, you know, you might be the, you might be the
- 46:35type of person that thinks that, you know, nobody gives a shit
- 46:37about you and, and, and you're just a worthless piece of
- 46:41garbage and, and your life sucks and this and that.
- 46:44Listen, I guarantee you somebody, at least one person,
- 46:47if not more, cares about you beyond more than that, You know,
- 46:54somebody cares and that person is going to be in your corner
- 46:59every time. They're going to they're going
- 47:01to get in your face about, you know, you being this, this self
- 47:04deprecating attitude. What the heck?
- 47:06Don't talk about my boy like that.
- 47:07Don't talk about my friend like that.
- 47:09Meaning you, you know, you're my God, you're my friend.
- 47:13First of all, you're your father's son.
- 47:15You're your daughter's mother or you're your mother's daughter.
- 47:18You're your, you know, father's son.
- 47:20You're, you know, you are the result of your ancestors hard
- 47:24work. How dare you talk down about
- 47:26yourself. Therefore, talking down about
- 47:28them, you know, get up. Come on.
- 47:31Shake it off. Dust.
- 47:32Dust the the, you know, dust your jeans off, dust your pants
- 47:35off, you know, shake it out, cry it out, maybe sometimes if you
- 47:40have to, and try again. Get up.
- 47:43Don't give up. Get up.
- 47:45Don't give up. Hello there.
- 47:50Hello there. Damon Adams speaking truth.
- 47:52Well, thank you, Damon. I mean, this is just from the
- 47:56experiences that I've had. Everybody has their own
- 48:00experiences and I'm not trying to, I'm not trying to suggest
- 48:04that I've got the answers for everybody.
- 48:06I'm just sharing my thoughts of a of a of a thing that's being
- 48:10directed towards this live stream and.
- 48:12It's, you know, everybody can, can, can chime in your thoughts,
- 48:16You know, again, because, because John's thing, you know,
- 48:21is it's very specific and it's very, I can't, you know, when I,
- 48:24when I read about stuff like this, you know, whether it's the
- 48:27individual who's posting about it or whether it's a situation
- 48:30that they're dealing with, with somebody else, right?
- 48:34So maybe they're speaking on behalf of somebody who doesn't
- 48:39or, or, you know, doesn't want to voice it for, you know, the
- 48:43sake of anonymity or, or whatever the case may be, or
- 48:48maybe it's themselves and they're just, you know, whatever
- 48:53it is. You know, I, I, I feel like so
- 48:54many of the things that I read about like while while sensitive
- 48:57and while delicate and while difficult as they are, they
- 49:00can't be so unique that they're the only ones going through it.
- 49:06I don't believe, I just, I don't believe that, you know, I may
- 49:11not be going through it and I may not have, I may not be able
- 49:14to sympathize because I haven't gone through it, you know, and
- 49:16that's another type of thing that I know a lot of people
- 49:20struggle with is, is when you are going through something
- 49:24yourself and then the person that you're, you know, getting
- 49:29help from or to venting to or whatever.
- 49:31Like one of the, I think one of the, one of the things that we
- 49:34have a tendency to do with people is to, to put ourselves
- 49:38in this position that we're, you know, this, you cannot possibly
- 49:42understand what I'm going through because you're not going
- 49:44through yourself. You wouldn't understand
- 49:50depression because you're not depressed.
- 49:52You wouldn't understand anxiety because you don't have it.
- 49:54You wouldn't understand PTSD because you don't have anything
- 49:59that has, has put you through those things.
- 50:03And to an extent, I understand what, where that sentiment is
- 50:05coming from. I couldn't possibly understand
- 50:08what it's like to give birth to a child because I don't have the
- 50:15plumbing, the gears, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the,
- 50:17the, the biological makeup to do so.
- 50:20So I have no freaking idea what a woman goes through when she
- 50:25gives birth. You know?
- 50:26On the same token, I have not been diagnosed with depression.
- 50:30Do I get depressed from time to time?
- 50:32Hell yeah. I mean just.
- 50:34Live a life for the, for the, for the, for the amount of years
- 50:38that I have and and longer for. For those of you who are older,
- 50:42I mean, I, I am, I am old to those who are younger than me
- 50:46and I am young to those who are older than me, but I'm still
- 50:49almost 40 and I have that many years of experience to say that
- 50:52yes, there are definitely times where I just wake up or in the
- 50:55middle of a random day, I just go, shit, this sucks.
- 50:59You know, I, I, I hate it. And, and it's more than just
- 51:02that. Like it gets to a point where I
- 51:03feel like I can't go on, you know, so, but I know what
- 51:11medicine to take to heal and I know how to manage it because of
- 51:17the medicine, because of the work that I've done to lessen
- 51:24the blow, you know, to, to, to get it to where the, when those
- 51:28things happen, it's, you know, I'm not, I'm not crippled from
- 51:32it. I'm, I'm, I'm knocked down a
- 51:34little bit. I'm I'm, I'm throwing off my
- 51:36rocker for a few minutes or or however long and then I'm
- 51:39getting back around to it and I'm going all right, you know,
- 51:42let's go. Let's get through this.
- 51:45You know, I'm learning what I can from it and and moving on.
- 51:50Damon Adams says that having a victim mindset poisons
- 51:54everything around you. If you say you can't, you
- 51:56convince yourself that you're incapable.
- 52:00Man, I can't agree more. You know, most, again, as I said
- 52:04before, there's definitely situations and there's
- 52:07definitely people in or you know, where, where the, where
- 52:10the victim is, is innocent. And then, you know, bad things
- 52:13happen to good people. It, it is that way, sadly so.
- 52:19But again, I think for the most part and, and by and large, you
- 52:23know, people that think that they're the victim is, is, is
- 52:25they're the victim of themselves.
- 52:27They, they, they're just not willing.
- 52:29They, they won't put the effort in and they can.
- 52:34You, our minds are such a powerful thing, you know, And
- 52:39it's easy. It's easy for us to convince
- 52:41ourselves that we're not worthy. It's easy for us to convince
- 52:44ourselves that we're less than capable.
- 52:48It's easy for us to remain in that defeatist attitude, that
- 52:55self deprecating mindset. It's easy to stay there.
- 52:59It's difficult to do the work necessary to battle those
- 53:06invasive thoughts, to battle those those dark entropic
- 53:09feelings and and and forces of nature that seek to to wear
- 53:14down. You know, even in the even in
- 53:17the mythology, the Norse mythology, like you think about
- 53:20knee dog, the dragon gnaws at the roots of Idris seal.
- 53:25That's entropy. The the tree is life.
- 53:28The tree is, is feeding and, and, and bringing nutrients in
- 53:31life to the, to all the 9 realms.
- 53:33And here you have this, this dragon that is constantly
- 53:37gnawing at its roots to, to, to kill it.
- 53:40And there's water being fed to it from the well.
- 53:43And there's all these things that are happening to keep it
- 53:45alive and to keep it going. And there's that constant
- 53:47entropic force that is nature. We're a part of nature.
- 53:52We're going to feel those things, but just because we're
- 53:56feeling it doesn't mean that it's the end and it doesn't mean
- 53:59that we can just lay down and give up.
- 54:02You know, what does it take to feed your tree?
- 54:05I guess would be a one, one way to look at it.
- 54:07What is it? You know what, what feeds your
- 54:09tree, what feeds you and keeps you vibrant and growing and,
- 54:13and, and feeling alive. There has to be those things in
- 54:18your life, otherwise that that entropy is going to keep gnawing
- 54:24and gnawing until the roots are are cut off and it and it's, you
- 54:28know, you're just this withered, lifeless shell.
- 54:35So what is it the thing that what is the thing that feeds
- 54:38your tree? Nurture it.
- 54:40For me, it's being in nature. For me, it's going into the
- 54:44river. For me, it's going in the woods
- 54:46or on a hike. For me, it's the drum.
- 54:49For me it's burning smoke, the resin of, of, you know,
- 54:54frankincense and you know, myrrh and and some other different
- 55:00types of incense resins, not the sticks that you buy in like the,
- 55:05the head shops. I'm talking the, the purest
- 55:07resin rocks, you know, the good stuff.
- 55:12Those are those that's, you know, some of my medicine and
- 55:16that's the way that I heal myself, maintain and nurture and
- 55:20water my tree. How do you water your tree?
- 55:26If you're not watering your tree, your tree is going to die.
- 55:31And then the only thing left is, is is for those entropic forces
- 55:35of nature to just consume it and then you're left with nothing.
- 55:41So it can get to that point. You know it can.
- 55:43It can definitely get to the point.
- 55:45Of. Nothing nothing is left.
- 55:48So where do you go from there? You got to start from scratch.
- 55:51You got a dung that that you know, when I say dung, I mean,
- 55:56you know, really get down to the to the root of things replant
- 56:04regroup. So, but yeah, I do.
- 56:11I do hope that you all enjoyed this episode and thank you, John
- 56:14for. Sharing your thoughts.
- 56:17I guess we'll go ahead and just wrap this live stream up here
