- 2:32we'll talk to JB about that. Plusure calls the Texture. Welcome to Bigley
- 2:37Pickley Wiggly Hotline three zero four three four five fifty eight fifty eight. Fruth
- 2:39Pharmacy Text three zero four nine three five five zero zero eight. Let's welcome
- 2:44to the show. Terry Burns, who is a candidate for a House of
- 2:46Delegates. Good morning, sir, How are you morning, Dave, how
- 2:50are you? I'm fine, welcome back to the show. Thank you for
- 2:52having me. And you're a Republican candidate. Is that right? All right?
- 2:54And tell us about the district again. It's District fifty three. It's
- 2:59basically the mostly the eastern part of Kenoal County. You've got Hughges Creek,
- 3:04Wicher's Creek, County's Creek, Camell's Creek, You've got if you got it?
- 3:07Is that what you're saying, It's creek, it's in mind? Okay.
- 3:12Uh so why is it that you're running. Why do you want to
- 3:14do this? I think if we can do better than what we have in
- 3:17the past on the eastern part of Kenoal County, I think it's been ignored.
- 3:23I really, I really think we can make things better for the people
- 3:27in that area. And we've got nothing up there right now. Uh It's
- 3:30it's a The eastern Parkkanal County is dying, and I think the legislature is
- 3:36pretty much ignored it. We've got, you know, all these politicians they
- 3:39talk about shovel ready sites. There are some sites in the eastern part of
- 3:44Knol County that could be made shovel ready, but yet nothing's been done.
- 3:49And I think we need to do that. I really think we should get
- 3:53something up there. I know LG made the announcement they're coming there. They
- 3:58mentioned Kenol County. Why do we not try to allure LG to the eastern
- 4:01part of Keanoc County. It's a good location. You've got the turnpikes there,
- 4:06you got Route sixty that goes right into the Interstates on with the turnpike.
- 4:12I see no reason why we couldn't put something up there. You know
- 4:15a few years ago, we had a company come in that was going to
- 4:18put an ammunition site there, which everybody figured out pretty quick that was a
- 4:24no go. But that site is still there. So why do we not
- 4:29get that site shovel ready and maybe we put an ammunition site up there,
- 4:33you know, and by then we could put maybe the seal ammunition to the
- 4:38federal government. That would be income for the state taxpayer to get some relief
- 4:43from the tax money coming in. I think that would be a good thing
- 4:46to do, if we can get everybody on board to get the site ready
- 4:49and find somebody to come in to do it. I can tell you're very
- 4:53proud of the area that you want to represent, that Upper Canal Valley.
- 4:56What is it about the Upper Canal Valley that you think maybe people might have
- 4:59a miss conception about I think that the things that happened in the years past,
- 5:03I think that maybe got a bad reputation. But now if everything is
- 5:08coming together, the people come together. If something happens to people stick together.
- 5:14You know, if there's a flood, then everybody pitches in and we
- 5:16put everything back. You know, the Camel's Creek got hit not what three
- 5:23years ago, and then we got up around shillion. They got hit a
- 5:28couple of three years ago, and everybody sticks together, and they that could
- 5:30happen because the federal government doesn't come and help. I've seen people that I've
- 5:34talked to on the show, not just those Terry that are running for office,
- 5:38but others that I definitely see that pride that people that are from the
- 5:42Upper Kanal Valleys. A matter of fact, I get text to the show
- 5:44frequently with somebody will say something like Upper Kanal Valley proud or something like that
- 5:46is an area that people take a lot of pride in. Yeah. I
- 5:49mean I've born and raised there. I've been on camel S Creek my entire
- 5:53life, which is sixty three years almost, so you know, I know
- 5:58the area. I know the people. If something happens. We know where
- 6:00it's at. If somebody says Pond Gap, we know where Punk Gap.
- 6:04You know, if it's Baker's Fork, we know where Baker's Fork is.
- 6:08Everybody in that area has been all through the area. You know there's a
- 6:12TV trails I mean, I think the legislature should be looking at that.
- 6:15Maybe we extend part of the ATV trail system into Kennol County, into the
- 6:20eastern part of Kanoa County. That would bring some maybe economic development that way.
- 6:27I mean, there is hundreds of miles of trails that could be developed
- 6:30and we can make it work. I mean, it could work. It's
- 6:34just we got to get politicians on board to do it. Talking again with
- 6:38Terry Burns's Republican candidate for a House and district at fifty three, the Dave
- 6:42Island showing five of Any Life has brought to you, probably by Hustin's Pizza.
- 6:45This month that your Favoritehustanin's get a large eten inch pepperoni pizza and the
- 6:47order of appetizer meatballs only twenty four to ninety nine dined in delivery or pickup.
- 6:51This's a Huston's Pizza dot Com give us a bio on Terry Burns.
- 6:56Born and raised in Camels Creek my whole life. Matter of fact, I
- 7:00was I don't care. I was born in April and we had a major
- 7:03flood in nineteen sixty one, which is the year I was born. And
- 7:06the flood came in June and my mother carried me out of the house in
- 7:11wasteep water. So, I mean, we get floods. That's just the
- 7:15nature of the temple. You know, the area we live in, it's
- 7:19heeled, You get a lot of rain, it runs off, you get
- 7:21floods. You do the best you can with it. But you know,
- 7:27I've been married for like thirty two or three years now, you better get
- 7:30that right, man. Yeah, it's been a while, and I tell
- 7:33people all the time, I know what I was married. I just can't
- 7:35do the math in my head exactly. That's the thing. I got a
- 7:40one daughter. She lives in Lewis County, so you know, she's kind
- 7:44of way from home. But I thought she might come back someday. But
- 7:46I don't think that's going to happen. But you know, I've been here
- 7:50all my life for sixty three years. Almost what professionally would have you done
- 7:54in your life. I worked for Division of Highways for like twenty years and
- 7:57retired, so you know, I've got the experience in state government. I
- 8:01know what works and doesn't work. I know what needs fixed and how to
- 8:05fix it. And there's a lot that needs fixed in state government. I
- 8:09want to ask you about You mentioned your daughter there, and she's in Lewis
- 8:13County, which is you know, I mean, that's not exactly like being
- 8:15next door, but it's also not like being in California either that you're that
- 8:18far away. You're obviously within Drivy disc it's not that far. But how
- 8:22do we get younger people to want to stay in West Virginia? That's part
- 8:26one and part two, Terry. How do we get people that maybe left
- 8:30West Virginia to go to North Carolina or Ohio or Indiana or wherever they went.
- 8:33How do we get those people to want to come back? What do
- 8:35we need to be doing differently under the dome to make those people want to
- 8:39come back. I think it starts with jobs and good paying jobs. You
- 8:43got to have good paying jobs to keep them here to start with, and
- 8:46then you've got to have opportunities that they want like an ATV trail, you
- 8:50know, or maybe the sports complex that they're doing at the Civic Center or
- 8:54the town Center. Maybe that would help out. But you have to have
- 8:58activities. I always thought maybe we should have a like a Cedar Point amusement
- 9:05part but put it up at Snowshoe somewhere. Once Corridor H has done,
- 9:09you'll have pretty pretty good access, and that way you could have a year
- 9:13round thing. You have to have activities that would draw them here. You
- 9:18can't do the status quote and think they're going to stay because they're not.
- 9:22And I think we need to be asking the kids that leave or are thinking
- 9:28about leaving. We need to ask them what would it take for you to
- 9:31stay? What do we need to do because that's the next generation. We
- 9:37need to get the next generation here. Have you been keeping an eye on
- 9:41the current session of the legislature, You've been watching anything in particular that's kind
- 9:45of stuck out to you getting your attention. I think that the death penalty
- 9:48thing is kind of ringing everybody's bell. I think I could support that if
- 9:54the circumstances were right. I think you had to be careful and it couldn't
- 9:58end up called send us a lot of money. And then on the other
- 10:03side of that. I saw a thing this morning. I think it was
- 10:05in Oklahoma. There was a guy that was on death Road and they found
- 10:09out now that maybe he didn't do it, and he's had three execution dates.
- 10:15So you got to be careful when you do that because there is no
- 10:16coming back from that. Now, you mentioned your background with the Department of
- 10:20Highways. What do you think about the road system in West Virginia? How
- 10:24I mean, there's obviously been some some improvements. Everywhere you go, there's
- 10:28there's orange barrels up. But as somebody who is kind of an expert in
- 10:33that area, what's your what's your take on? I think we can do
- 10:35better. I don't like the way we pave roads. A lot of these
- 10:41roads were putting down one inch of asphalt that's not going to last. There's
- 10:46no use spending fourteen million dollars to pay a mile road when it's only going
- 10:48to last three years. That's why I think you got to be careful.
- 10:52With all the bonds that they're talking about floating. You can't. You cannot
- 10:56use bonds for a paving project. It's just a bad idea. It doesn't
- 11:01work. It's you're going to be paying for your bonds way past the time
- 11:05when the pavement is gone. So we just can't do that. So if
- 11:09you are elected and you go in, you're going to find yourself terry dealing
- 11:13with a lot of people that, even though they may be of your same
- 11:16party. The Republicans are in the super majority obviously, but people that have
- 11:20different differences of opinion than you do. Even within a party, not everybody's
- 11:24going to agree and that and they and they shutting. That's where dialogue comes
- 11:26from, and that's where ideas get hired at. How do you think you'll
- 11:30deal uh with with with dealing with people maybe that have a totally different perspective
- 11:35they all. I think we'll be fine. I've dealt with people all my
- 11:39life. And even even with those one hundred delegates, you're going to find
- 11:45groups that are they're together, yeah some sense kind of Yeah, that happens
- 11:48every time. So, I mean, but it doesn't matter to me whether
- 11:52you're a Democrat, Republican, independent. The people have to come first.
- 11:56It's people before party, and you have to do that. Every legislator or
- 12:01politician that should be what they do. It should be the people first,
- 12:05and you have to do that if we're going to continue down the prosperity path
- 12:09we were on. You have to get things ready. You have to work
- 12:13together and everybody. Everybody has to get on the same page. I mean,
- 12:16you may have to compromise here or there to get what you need done,
- 12:20but at least you can get it done. Which campaign strategy, Like,
- 12:24you've been out knocking doors and doing forums and whatever. What do you
- 12:26do? How do you cod for me? I gotta wait till it was
- 12:31well, it's going to be at the fifties today in the snow's mountains,
- 12:33so you've got no excuse get up there knocked out of doors. But what
- 12:37do you tell people if you go to somebody I don't know. I said
- 12:39that about knocking a door. Some candidates do that and some don't. But
- 12:41if you meet somebody in a senior center or wherever you meet them, or
- 12:46at the mall or whatever, and they say, well, why should I
- 12:48why should I vote for Terry Burns? What would you tell them? Basically?
- 12:52What we said. You know, I've lived in the district my whole
- 12:56life. I know the district, I know the people, I know what
- 12:58we need. I know where it needs to go. I know the places
- 13:01where we can put things. I can represent people probably better than anybody else
- 13:07that's running in my district because I've been in my district. You know,
- 13:11I've wrote ATVs up every one of these hollows that we mentioned many times.
- 13:16So I think you know that that would be a big thing. And the
- 13:22other thing is you don't take money from lobbyists or special interests. And you
- 13:26know we need utility rate reform. If a candidate's taken twelve million dollars from
- 13:33utility companies, you're not going to get any reform. You have to go
- 13:37in there with a clean slate, willing to make the changes and fight for
- 13:41what you believe in and try to make things better for everybody. You know,
- 13:46I went to the PSC hearings. I've pretty much done everything that you
- 13:50can do to try to stop the rate increases. I think we're at the
- 13:54point now where the legislature is going to have to step in and you're going
- 13:58to have to reorganize PSC, and you're gonna have to put some kind of
- 14:03code in law that says this is what you do, and maybe you start
- 14:07charging utility companies a fee to file for rate increase and you basically on how
- 14:13much they ask for. Maybe if it's the first one, you ask for
- 14:16five percent. If you ask for the second one in five years, maybe
- 14:20you go to twenty percent. And if he ask for a third one in
- 14:22five years, maybe you just make it forty percent. And it can't come
- 14:26from the rake bears. It has to come out of the company profits.
- 14:30Interesting concept. I think there probably would be a lot of support for that.
- 14:33Well, Terry, working people learn more about your campaign. You can
- 14:35go to Terry Burns dot org. There you'll find my email address, my
- 14:41personal cell phone numbers there. I think if you're in office or running for

- 19:08Stephanie Abraham. How are you, Stephanie. Good morning, great Dave,
- 19:12thanks for having me this morning. Thank you for being here. Now you
- 19:15were pointed to the thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court in August or place Jedge jug Bloom,
- 19:19who retired, So talk about that experience so far. How's it been,
- 19:22Well, it's been great, And I was thinking back this morning,
- 19:26it's you had me here the morning of my investiture. So it's been four
- 19:29months later. It's been a wonderful four months and incredible experience for me.
- 19:34There's a lot of things that I've learned, a lot of things that I'm
- 19:37awfully proud of that we've been able to do. I've been very grateful for
- 19:44the opportunity to preside over our Juvenile Drug Court since that time. That's a
- 19:48program that we have to really get our kids on the right path to success,
- 19:55and I'm incredibly proud to be part of that. I'm going to ask
- 19:56you about the Juvenile Drug Court. How does that whole thing work. It's
- 20:00been around for a while, what kind of successes are we seeing, and
- 20:03just give us an idea of how the whole thing works. Sure, it's
- 20:07really a holistic approach. We have a treatment team that's made up a variety
- 20:11of stakeholders with regard to representatives from the Prosecutor's office, with regard from the
- 20:15Public Defender's office. We have representatives from Kenaw County School District. We have
- 20:21therapists that work with our kids. It's really an all encompassing approach to help
- 20:27help the kids in the program really get invested in their futures and their families
- 20:32get invested in their futures. We are working really hard to build partnerships with
- 20:37some of our community leaders, with some of our state leaders. For instance,
- 20:42we have hearings tonight and we have Phil Cantrell coming from out your Challenge,
- 20:47he's the state director to speak to our kids about that opportunity. We
- 20:51have a lot of the same goals and it's just a really good opportunity for
- 20:53them to get some information if they've expressed interest and ask some questions from them
- 21:00and their parents. And so many of these kids, and I know in
- 21:03your experience and other others in the court system have told me when they're experience,
- 21:07I mean, so many of these kids are almost sadly born with a
- 21:11strike against them because mommy and daddy are not part of the picture because of
- 21:15drugs, grandma's you know, are sometimes not part of the picture. So
- 21:21getting them early and hopefully getting them on the right path, getting them turned
- 21:23around, is so so important, Judge right, And that's exactly what our
- 21:27goal is because I think in my background, I've already been aware of some
- 21:32of the issues that our kids are facing, but really being down and seeing
- 21:36it firsthand and being in the trenches has been profoundly humbling and eye opening experience
- 21:41for me. So we're doing everything that we can to make sure that our
- 21:45kids can be successful and have good opportunities in the future. So you are
- 21:48appointed to that position. You've been in office now for four months. Now,
- 21:52now you're a candidate. Why do you want to continue? Well,
- 21:56I, like I said, I'm just proud of the work that we've been
- 21:59able to do so far. I think when I was back here in September,
- 22:02I told you and your listeners that I would hit the ground running,
- 22:06and I have done that. We are moving cases, making decisions and it's
- 22:11incredibly great, just really wonderful for me to serve the citizens of this county.
- 22:17Again. We're talking to Judge Stephanie Abraham here on The Dave Allan Show
- 22:19and five Adie Live The Day Vland Show. It is brought too part by
- 22:22General Hardware and Lumber of Winfield. Come check out the new contractor showroom,
- 22:26Number, Yard and more. They deliver service and quality right to your door.
- 22:29Don't buy until you get a quote from General Hardware and Number of Winfield.
- 22:32In case people missed your previous appearances on the show, is devidi to
- 22:34give give us the bio in Stephanie Abraham. Well before I'm being appointed by
- 22:41Governor Justice. I was a Attorney General Council for our state Board of Education,
- 22:47also worked as an attorney for our Department of Education, and then had
- 22:52my own private practice where did some work for countity and county entities and a
- 22:56lot of property work. I've represented all kinds of individuals, different businesses,
- 23:00different governmental entities, so I have that different, unique kind of experience bringing
- 23:06that to the bench. There's been some criticisms in the past judge of judges
- 23:12who want to legislate from the bench, be it locally, even on the
- 23:18higher level. I'm going to phrase this right, what do you feel is
- 23:23the role of somebody setting on that bench and what does the line get drawn?
- 23:27Because you've heard the criticism, not necessarily against you, I don't mean
- 23:30that, but I mean across the country people saying we have you know,
- 23:33activist judges, judges don't want to legislate from the bench. How do you
- 23:36answer those sercations? And I can unequivocally say that that's not me, that's
- 23:40not my role. We don't make laws. That's the legislature's role, and
- 23:45it's our job to make sure that. And what I feel strongly about is
- 23:48following our state laws, following our Constitution, and ensuring that all the litigands
- 23:52that come in front of me have due process and equal protection in their liberties
- 23:56protected. Give us a website or something where people learn more about you,
- 24:03Abraham for Judge dot com. Okay, and so again, you're back at
- 24:07it right now, and you've got the four months of experience. And I
- 24:12kind of touched on this early, but it just kind of reiterate there's nothing
- 24:15like on the job experience. And you're obviously very experienced, So you don't
- 24:18really know till you know, until you until you're there. And I'm sure
- 24:22that you've picked up some things along the way from the last time that you
- 24:25were here that you could say, Okay, well this didn't work, this
- 24:27does work, whatever, and kind of take it from there. Yeah,
- 24:30And like I said, it's been incredibly eye opening experience. Some of the
- 24:33issues that we're facing here in our county and that our citizens are facing in
- 24:37this county. We all know, and it's no secret that substance abuse and
- 24:41addiction is a main driver of crime in our county. We work really hard
- 24:45to ensure that people have access to treatment, but we also ensure that there's
- 24:49justice for victims. That's just as important. I'm firm on that. I
- 24:53don't want my courtroom to be a revolving door of recidivism, but it is
- 24:57something that we struggle with and we see and we hear so many people in
- 25:03the judicial front that will that have told me, others, you and others
- 25:06on this show that they do see sometimes a lot of the same people in
- 25:11there. And I don't know how you break that. That's not the role
- 25:14of the judicial system, but I don't know how we break that cycle.
- 25:17But I think of some of these things that you and others are doing with
- 25:19these drug courts, and you mentioned them out in your Challenge Academy, which
- 25:22I think. I'm a big believer in that program. I think I think
- 25:25it's a fantastic program if we get these hopefully we get these kids and even
- 25:29adults get them turned around, because there's a lot of successes in drug courts
- 25:33and things of that nature to judge. So it's not just that I spend
- 25:34time talking about the kids, but there are success stories of those that are
- 25:38much older in life that have been able to turn it around. Oh.
- 25:41Absolutely. In fact, I was very fortunate to attend Judge Slango's Family Treatment
- 25:45Court graduation a few weeks ago. We also have adult Treatment Court in Kanawah
- 25:49County and then the juveniles, like I already spoke about. So really it
- 25:53is an all hands on deck effort. So give me the final thirty seconds
- 25:56you're watching, somebody vote to retain judge have any Abraham on the bench.
- 26:00Well, thanks, Davi v I. Like I said, I am a
- 26:04firm believer that everybody deserves their day in court. If they are in front
- 26:08of me, they will have every opportunity to present their case and I will
- 26:11hear it fairly. I will follow the law, not make the law,
- 26:15like we just talked about, and that's something that I believe in, and
- 26:18that's something I'm going to continue to do. All right, And we have
- 26:22information out there people can learn about you on the course. You're running a
- 26:25lot of commercials. That's a good start on the show, on this show,
- 26:27in this station. But you got a website, social media, they
- 26:30are pretty easy to find right there. All right, Judge seventy Abraham,

- 30:23to get out to the Coloseum and Convention Center, and that is happening on
- 30:27Thursday night. I mean, I got a couple of text and then we'll
- 30:30go to Joe Stevens. Tex says this was about yesterday's show to the know
- 30:33nothing, know it all genius saying banning the anti white propaganda platform critical race
- 30:40theory. By the way, if you're based on facts, it would not
- 30:41be a theory, says a Texture that it violates the First Amendment. You
- 30:45really need to know the difference between speech and indoctrination. It protects your rights
- 30:48to proclaim critical race theory, but it does not establish any right to teach
- 30:52it in tax payer funded government schools says a Texture. Going back to the
- 31:02Chris Print interview yesterday. Yesterday on the show, Chris Print, remember the
- 31:03House of Delegates, had said he was going to run for Secretary of State,
- 31:07opting in standing now to run for state senate, says I'm confused.
- 31:11Print is running for West Virginia State Senate to make other states elections, sayer
- 31:14l O l says a texture. Let's go to Joe Stevens, our good
- 31:18friend from the Ski Association. Joseph, good morning, how are you just
- 31:22fine? And great news about the caravan coming in? And you know what
- 31:26flag I fly in front of my house. Let's go. Oh, you
- 31:30will appreciate this, mister Allen. Crossing something off the bucket list. My
- 31:36brother and I are going to spring training in March to ed Smith Stadium C
- 31:41and the O's play. Now where do they do their spring training when?
- 31:45Or where? Where? Where Sarasota? Oh, they're down in Sarasota.
- 31:48Okay, yeah, I know. I know. Jeff Jenkins went down I
- 31:52think last year, and he may have gone down a couple other times to
- 31:55take into Red spring training. That's that's also on my bucket list. But
- 31:57I'll be honest with you, I don't really care what team I go for,
- 32:00to be honest with you, I just want to go to spring trading.
- 32:02I think it would be awesome to do that. Yeah, my brother
- 32:06and I were like, who are they playing? Who cares? Yeah?
- 32:07Exactly right? All right, Joe, So you took me to task a
- 32:12couple of times last week, and I refer to the snowy weather and the
- 32:14cold as nastiness. I think you referred to it in a text to me
- 32:17as gold falling from the sky. All right, So so can both things
- 32:22be right? Can we? Can we hate snow and love it at the
- 32:24same time. Well, I'm not going to disagree because you have the silence
- 32:29button, so we'll we'll let that one fly. But you know, I
- 32:34mean, there are there are times when you know it can get a bit
- 32:38gnarly out there as it may be, but when you're when you're at the
- 32:43ski resort, or you're going to a ski resort, or you know you're
- 32:46going to be snow tubing or or snowboarding or even cross country skiing. What
- 32:52what was occurring in the last ten days or as you as I as I
- 32:58described it for you, it was gold wait goal falling from the skies.
- 33:01Yes, So let's talk about the last couple of years in the skiing industry
- 33:06in West Virginia as far as snowfalls go. I mean, if you remember
- 33:08last year around Christmas, we had that really cold snap and we didn't get
- 33:12a whole lot of snow with it, but because it was twenty five below
- 33:15zero, it seemed like it's stuck around for a while, but other than
- 33:17that, over the last couple of years, Joe, it's been pretty slim
- 33:20pickens as far as snow in West Virginia, well, two years ago it
- 33:23was somewhat on the average both Canaane Valley and Pocahontas where Snowshoe is that those
- 33:32two areas got over one hundred inches, but that's still under the one hundred
- 33:37and fifty to one hundred and eighty I've seen as much as when I was
- 33:40working at Snowshoe, I've seen as I saw as much as two hundred and
- 33:44ninety eight inches in a season, but that hasn't occurred in last year.
- 33:49Like you said, it was limited. But with that said, we did
- 33:53have the cold temperatures. And that's the key because the resorts in West Virginia,
- 34:00and I'm talking about from winter Place in Raleigh County to Snowshoe and Pocahontas
- 34:05County to in Tucker County you've got Timberline and Canine, and over in Ohio
- 34:09County you've got Ogilby. If it's cold temperatures, they're making snow and it's
- 34:15not the it's not artificial snow. It's not fake snow. It is real
- 34:20man made snow. It is crystallized formations hitting on the ground that people can
- 34:25play on. Well, I saw a lot of pictures posted online for people
- 34:30that when they saw the forecast either headed to the ski resorts or maybe they
- 34:35already had trips planned. They kind of got their money's worth last week.
- 34:38Is that a pretty good assertion, Oh, without a doubt. I mean,
- 34:43and yesterday I was just talking to somebody that their grandson was skiing at
- 34:46winter Place and they were still in ankle deep snow. And you saw some
- 34:53of the pictures from Timberline, and you saw a picture I saw a picture
- 34:57from Snowshoe and they were in knee deep outer and I mean, that's just
- 35:01that's just too much fun to be had by one person. And unfortunately I
- 35:06wasn't one of those persons that were going downhill and having fun. But yeah,
- 35:10we're in good shape. And Dave, you know, just looking ahead
- 35:14down people are you know, they got their weather apps on their phone and
- 35:17they and they and they feel that that is the where they get the most
- 35:21accurate information. And that's another story for another time. And Tony and and
- 35:25the person you want to talk to about that, and Tony Edwards at n
- 35:29WS and just just just calm up and say tell me about weather apps and
- 35:34and and that'll be an hour long show for you. But but none.
- 35:37Nonetheless, we're going to come into a mile period now and and but because
- 35:43of what has already fallen and what they've made, I mean they dumped out
- 35:47water. They were there were millions upon millions of gallons of water in their
- 35:52snowmaking pond uh lakes that they were making snow. And man made snow is
- 35:57more resilient. Yeah, it's going to be under the snow in a couple
- 36:00of days at some of the resorts and what have you, but are known
- 36:02as rain, but we call it under developed snow. And and but you're
- 36:07not. It's the conditions it would be good. And for guys like you
- 36:12and I who it's gonna be Ego snow because it's gonna be a softer scenario
- 36:17and they can have some fun in it and and let gravity be their friend
- 36:22as it may be. Talking to Joe Stevens from the Ski Association of Dave

- 36:46Joe, are we talking about? For what skime means to the tourism
- 36:50industry in West Virginia About a quarter of a billion dollar industry. That's and
- 36:54that's not only at the resort. Let's talk about people like place where they're
- 37:00lodging in Princeton, they're lodging in buff Up, in Bluefield, they're lodging
- 37:06at Glade Springs. So that's money being being funded in in in that area.
- 37:12You know, you're talking about restaurants off the resorts. You're talking about
- 37:16gas stations off the resorts. A good case right there at gen where you've
- 37:21got a par mar store and uh, you know you just see people lining
- 37:24up there when they're coming in and when they're going out. So you've got
- 37:29an economic impact across across the board. And and we're also talking about right
- 37:35now about five thousand jobs that is directly related. And that's not even counting
- 37:40the guys plown snow, the the individual and the individuals, not the d
- 37:46O H guys who have done just an awesome job this year to and from
- 37:51the resorts and that sort of thing, but the individual plow drivers that have
- 37:55to take care of the parking lots that people are coming to the resorts and
- 38:00that sort of thing. So the trickle down effect, the proverbial trickle down
- 38:02effect is strong. Well, Joe, you know, all my weather forecasting
- 38:08friends, you know, from the National Weather Service and the guys that do
- 38:12the TV thing, Spencer and Brian and Tony and all of them, they'll
- 38:15always say that the weather cannot be act very you know, there's certain exceptions,
- 38:21but for the most part, it can't be accurately predicted more than about
- 38:22forty eight hours in advance. So Brian Hughes I had him on a couple
- 38:27of weeks with Spencer, was on last week as well, and they say
- 38:28that, well, we're gonna have this mild period, but then we may
- 38:31it looks like February is gonna be a little bit colder, so we'll play
- 38:35the wait and see game. And don't always trust the apps on your phone,
- 38:37right exactly. It's weather, whether you like it well, weather,
- 38:42whatever the weather will be. Weather gonna do what weather gonna do. Joe,
- 38:45I appreciate it, man. And where can we get more information about
- 38:49anything related to ski in West Virginia. What's your go to places as far
- 38:52as locate websites or things of that nature, ghost ski WV dot com that's

- 44:22current state auditor and candidate for Attorney General. JB. How are you,
- 44:24man, Great, Dave, how are you. I'm doing fine. You
- 44:27were telling me that during the break, I was talking about this swatting story
- 44:31that happened yesterday up in South Hills, and I was, I mean,
- 44:35people you know, were talking, I mean, calling the station and everything
- 44:37about this. It later turned out to be fake, but you you really
- 44:39pretty darn close to the situation talk about that. Yeah, So we had
- 44:43probably I mean, it's hard to count, but I'd say twenty five or
- 44:46thirty first responders go past our house, sirens blaring, you know, going
- 44:52sixty seventy miles an hour on a on a on a neighborhood road. And
- 44:57the school. And I was working from home yesterday and the the the school
- 45:00is across the street from the house, and that's where my six and my
- 45:02eight year go to school. I have a third grader and a kindergartener at
- 45:06whole school. And when you see that much police presence speed past your house
- 45:09and your kids are at an elementary school without a security guard, I literally
- 45:15threw on a jacket in my shorts and my slippers and ran up the street
- 45:20in the freezing cold to do whatever I could because I thought they were all
- 45:22going to my kids' school. It was as scared as I've ever been in
- 45:25my life. I can't imagine that man and the teachers I talked to.
- 45:29I mean, what a disaster swatting is. At some point we need to
- 45:32probably take a really good hard look at what are the punishments for this.
- 45:37They need to be pretty similar to any other kind of action that puts a
- 45:42first responder in harms, like a terroristic type thing. I mean, lock
- 45:45them up and throw away the key as far as if they if they find
- 45:47them, because a lot of times they don't find it, bear them under
- 45:50the jail. It's this is a huge problem. It is, But at
- 45:53the same time, the bigger problem is is that we still haven't, as
- 45:58Senator Tarr and I have been working on for years, figure it out a
- 46:01way to prioritize the safety of our school students. There needs to be a
- 46:05resource officer in every single school in West Virginia. No parent should feel the
- 46:09need to sprint to their kids' school at the moment of danger. There should
- 46:14be somebody there protecting our kids. We have found ways to prioritize spending hundreds
- 46:17of millions of dollars on so many things right, and the safety of our
- 46:22children I think should be the most paramount, and I'll continue to fight for
- 46:27this because I think it is intensely important. I think it is worth every
- 46:30single penny, and I think most importantly what we know is these things happen
- 46:35everywhere. Yep. There is no special bubble around West Virginia that's going to
- 46:40prevent this from happening here, simply because this is a great place to be.
- 46:44It's a very safe place to be. It's a place with great families
- 46:46and great values. But all that being said, the mental health crisis that
- 46:52is affecting teenagers throughout this country is not going to stop at the Virginia,
- 46:57Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania border. Right. It's good to your campaign.
- 47:01It is official now, JB. You officially signed a paperwork yesterday.
- 47:05You're now a candidate officially for attorney in general. Why do you want to
- 47:07be the agen Well, it is, as we were just talking about,
- 47:12being a public servant in West Virginia is a passion and there is nothing on
- 47:16earth that I work harder for than to allow the people that I live with
- 47:22the people of the Mountain State to finally achieve the greatness that this place promises.
- 47:28And we have an incredible opportunity in front of us with economic development,
- 47:32with our location, with our value set there, this is the place where
- 47:37young families from around this country are going to want to move right. And
- 47:40with my long history of being a lawyer, both a constitutional lawyer protecting people's
- 47:45religious liberties, being a private defense attorney working to defend our coal industry and
- 47:51working to defend our gas industry, and then being the auditor and working to
- 47:54reform our entire state government to make it more efficient, more effective, faster,
- 48:00and more transparent and importantly more accountable to taxpayers, I believe that I
- 48:07have a really unique opportunity to help the next governor both protect our state from
- 48:14rogue Washingtonians and Californians who don't believe it that our way of life is appropriate,
- 48:20to defend our values, and to make sure that our government is able
- 48:23to be reformed and turned into a truly taxpayer centered organization that protects our children,
- 48:32that educates our children, that provides first class infrastructure, and that gives
- 48:37people who have a little bit less than we do a great opportunity to move
- 48:42up to the middle class. There is the left has tried for years to
- 48:46paint conservatives as those who don't care about those that are less fortunate, and
- 48:50nothing could be further from the truth. The truth is is that conservatives are
- 48:53the ones who truly want to empower the least among us and give us give
- 48:59them the most most opportunity to reach the middle class. And if we do
- 49:02that, the next twenty five or thirty years are going to be the most
- 49:06remarkable in our history. And I am excited to fight for every single one
- 49:08of those things. In every West Virginia. What are you most proud of
- 49:12as far as your work the state auditor? I would say that, you
- 49:17know, the list is so long, Dave. It's like that job interview
- 49:22question when they say, like, you know, what is your biggest fault?
- 49:24It's like, yeah, I'm just too humble, right, But you
- 49:28know, our office has done an incredible job of increasing our own efficiency,
- 49:35increasing our own effectiveness, and increasing our workload while also getting smaller and returning
- 49:39money back to taxpayers. So we have increased our audit load by almost a
- 49:43thousand audits. We've streamlined the audit process, We've made it significantly faster.
- 49:47We've created demolition programs that have torn down twenty five to thirty million dollars worth
- 49:52of dilapidated properties. We've prosecuted more than forty five people to felony fraud conviction
- 49:58throughout the state of West Virginia. And we've created the West Virginia Checkbook,
- 50:01made West Virginia the most transparent state in the entire United States, which I
- 50:06think is important. But at the same time, we've done it while decreasing
- 50:08the size of our staff where staff is down twenty five percent, and decreasing
- 50:13the size of our general revenue budget, so we spend less of your money,
- 50:16we have less people doing it, and we've returned over one hundred million
- 50:22dollars to the general revenue in the seven years that I've been here. And
- 50:24so what I what I know is is that we have committed ourselves to being
- 50:29the lean, accountable, efficient organization that the rest of the government can be.
- 50:34And I'm just super proud of my team and their willingness to buy into
- 50:38my vision in the office. And that's that It's been the joy of my
- 50:45life to build a team of people that bought in and are so committed to
- 50:49West Virginia taxpayer, And now, how do you transition that we'll close this?
- 50:52How do you transition that if you're like to attorney general. Yeah,
- 50:54the values are the same, right the end of the day, the West
- 50:57Virginia taxpayer is the person who needs to be protected. They either need to
- 51:00be protected from a rogue Washington bureaucracy or a rogue Charleston bureaucracy. Right,
- 51:06and I have a history of defending our state's values against people who want to
- 51:13stop it. Because here's the deal, Dave, we will not be able
- 51:15to grow if we're not allowed to be ourselves. The reason people want to
- 51:19move to West Virginia is because of who we are, because of our value
- 51:22set, and because of the way that young families can be free to educate
- 51:25their children here. They can they have a low cost of living it,
- 51:29they have a high a high probability of being close to the things that they
- 51:34want outside of nature. Everything is beautiful. Right, We're close to New
- 51:37York, DC, you name it. But it's a little alcove of freedom.
- 51:39And we need an attorney general who's going to fight to make sure that
- 51:43our value set is defended. And I'm the person to do that, and
- 51:46you feel that you are the person to do them. I know I am.
- 51:49All right? Where can people learn more about your campaign? Mccuski for
- 51:52wv dot Com. All right, House campaign, been looking so far?
- 51:55You've been at meeting people in Shakespaue, Austin. See the amount of enthusiasm
- 51:59that we have from the Eastern Panandal to the Northern Panandal, the coalfields,
- 52:01Canna, Putnam, Cavell, Harrison, Mary and Maud, Ohio, Berkeley,
- 52:07Jefferson, Mineral, you name it. We have incredible enthusiasm. Fundraising
- 52:10is going incredible, and interest groups and and you know, just the groups
- 52:16of people in West Virginia are very excited about my vision and I'm excited to
- 52:21get this race going. All right, State auditor and now officially a candidate
- 52:24for Attorney General. J. B. McCuskey. All right, appreciate it,
- 52:27man, Thanks a lot. Coming up on the show tomorrow, Don
- 52:29Miller from the Read Aloud West Virginia program will be here US and Canada.
- 52:31Glenn lah also the mayor of Wheeland. He'll be on the show tomorrow prosecuting
- 52:37attorney candidate Morgan Switzer will be on the show tomorrow as well. Gotta go,
- 52:40I will see you tomorrow. Till then, have fun and love somebody.
