- 0:04Speaker 1: Good evening, everyone.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Welcome to the Bet365 Guardians warm-up show. Tonight from Comerica
- 0:10Speaker 2: Park in Detroit, it's the Guardians and Detroit Tigers meeting
- 0:14Speaker 2: in Game 2 of this four-game series. Jim Rosenhouse along
- 0:18Speaker 2: with you about a half hour prior to tonight's first pitch.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Another changeable weather day in Detroit, but things looking up
- 0:25Speaker 2: for a 6.40.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Start time local time.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Guardians trying to make it two in a row after
- 0:31Speaker 2: the impressive 8-2 victory last night. Keyed by another big
- 0:36Speaker 2: night at the plate from Jose Ramirez. Angel Martinez pitching
- 0:40Speaker 2: in along with Reese Hoskins and the Guardians now. Two
- 0:43Speaker 2: games up on second place Chicago in the AL Central
- 0:46Speaker 2: while the Tigers continue to flounder. They are eight games under.
- 0:51Speaker 2: 500 and six games off the pace at the bottom
- 0:53Speaker 2: of the division.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Stay with us. We'll have more to come after this timeout.
- 1:04Speaker 1: The pitch hit a ton.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Deep right.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Down the line.
- 1:09Speaker 3: Fair ball.
- 1:11Speaker 1: Another home run for Angel Martinez. That's his ninth. And
- 1:18Speaker 1: it's 8-2 Cleveland. The only question was, would it stay fair?
- 1:24Speaker 1: Would it hit the foul pole? It didn't hit the pole,
- 1:29Speaker 1: but it stayed fair. And boy, did he tee off.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Bet365 Guardians warm-up show, the Guardians
- 1:37Speaker 2: and Tigers meeting here at Comerica Park in Detroit. Angel
- 1:41Speaker 2: Martinez has been announced as the American League Player of
- 1:44Speaker 2: the Week for the week gone by. That announcement coming
- 1:47Speaker 2: yesterday after a 7-for-19 week with four of the seven
- 1:51Speaker 2: hits home runs. He drove in seven in six games,
- 1:56Speaker 2: scored eight times, and throw in three stolen bases for
- 1:59Speaker 2: good measure, and it was quite a week for Martinez,
- 2:02Speaker 2: the third Guardians player to to win the American League
- 2:05Speaker 2: Player of the Week award. Chase DeLauder did it the
- 2:08Speaker 2: first week of the season with that huge start to
- 2:10Speaker 2: his year at Seattle. And then it was Jose Ramirez
- 2:13Speaker 2: in mid-April winning the award as well. And now, Angel Martinez.
- 2:17Speaker 2: We'll hear from the Guardians outfielder when we return after this.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Here's the Bet365 Minute, where winning is everything, with Scott Davidson.
- 2:27Speaker 5: Let's check the numbers. Game 2 from Comerica. The Guardians
- 2:30Speaker 5: a pretty hefty favorite tonight on the road. They're minus
- 2:32Speaker 5: 160 with Messick. Total is 8. And off another easy
- 2:36Speaker 5: winner last night on Tampa Bay. Let's try to keep
- 2:38Speaker 5: the streak going. Going to stay right here, give you
- 2:40Speaker 5: my first no-run first inning play of the year. And
- 2:43Speaker 5: it's going to be the Guardians and the Tigers to
- 2:45Speaker 5: have no runs in the first inning.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Now, Parker Messick, this is simple. He is 9-0.
- 2:50Speaker 5: On no-run first innings this year against a Tigers team
- 2:53Speaker 5: that hasn't scored many runs in the first. On the
- 2:55Speaker 5: other side, it is Kyler Montero.
- 2:57Speaker 6: He's 8-0.
- 2:58Speaker 5: No-run first innings this year against a Guardians team that
- 3:01Speaker 5: has not scored in nearly 70% of their games in
- 3:03Speaker 5: the first.
- 3:04Speaker 3: No-run first innings.
- 3:05Speaker 5: Guardians-Tigers, my play of the day. Now, you can join
- 3:07Speaker 5: me when you download the Bet365 app. You bet $ 10,
- 3:11Speaker 5: you get $ 200 in bonus bets. Win or lose, terms
- 3:13Speaker 5: and conditions apply. And that's a Bet365 Minute. I'm Scott Davidson.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Gambling problem?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Call 1-800-MY-RESET. 21 plus only.
- 3:20Speaker 4: Must be physically located in Ohio.
- 3:24Speaker 1: The batter will be Angel Martinez. Bases loaded. One down.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Infield back.
- 3:30Speaker 3: The pitch.
- 3:31Speaker 1: And a swing and a liner. That's over the head
- 3:33Speaker 1: of McKinstry and a right of base hit. Everybody moves
- 3:37Speaker 1: up one as Pazana scores to make it 5-1 Cleveland.
- 3:41Speaker 1: So a base hit to right field by Angel Martinez.
- 3:45Speaker 1: His second hit tonight. And he now has collected nine
- 3:50Speaker 1: RBIs in his last seven games and 25 on the year.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Welcome back to Guardians Warm-Up. Angel Martinez joining us after
- 3:59Speaker 2: earning American League Player of the Week honors for a
- 4:02Speaker 2: big week at the plate, obviously.
- 4:03Speaker 3: And Angel, it's interesting.
- 4:06Speaker 2: I think players look at it differently as whether it's
- 4:08Speaker 2: an honor, obviously, but What does it mean to you
- 4:11Speaker 2: from the positive but also the cautionary tale too?
- 4:14Speaker 7: It feels really good. Don't try to get too high
- 4:17Speaker 7: for the news, you know, try to keep it together.
- 4:20Speaker 7: But it's very special to me, all the work that
- 4:24Speaker 7: I've been putting on, like it's showing up, and I'm
- 4:26Speaker 7: really happy for it.
- 4:27Speaker 2: And you've been fairly consistent, obviously a big week. It
- 4:30Speaker 2: earns you the honor. How difficult can it be for
- 4:33Speaker 2: a young player to be consistent, and what's been the
- 4:36Speaker 2: key for you to get there?
- 4:38Speaker 7: Don't get too high. When things are going well, don't
- 4:41Speaker 7: get too high. When things are going low, don't get
- 4:43Speaker 7: too low. I think that's been the key for me
- 4:46Speaker 7: this year, and I'm going to try to keep it
- 4:49Speaker 7: as much as I can.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I thought it was interesting, you had mentioned a little
- 4:53Speaker 2: while back, about your approach to the plate. You've always
- 4:57Speaker 2: been aggressive, but you've been a little more selective, but
- 4:59Speaker 2: you're trying to keep the aggressive.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Part of it.
- 5:01Speaker 2: How are you balancing the two?
- 5:04Speaker 7: It's always been part of my game. I'm really aggressive,
- 5:07Speaker 7: but when I'm doing well, I'm aggressive and I'm able
- 5:11Speaker 7: to select the pitch that I'm looking for. So you
- 5:17Speaker 7: just find a way to keep it as consistent.
- 5:20Speaker 2: You were part of a big weekend home run rise
- 5:22Speaker 2: for the team, especially yesterday.
- 5:25Speaker 3: When you see.
- 5:26Speaker 2: Games like that, what do you think about the possibilities
- 5:29Speaker 2: for this team offensively when they put together a game
- 5:31Speaker 2: like that?
- 5:32Speaker 7: I don't really, like, get away for that we have
- 5:36Speaker 7: a game like that. The possibility, they are there. We
- 5:39Speaker 7: know that we can, like, achieve anything that we're trying
- 5:43Speaker 7: to achieve. So, for me, like, it don't surprise me that, like,
- 5:48Speaker 7: a really good game like that one, you know. I
- 5:51Speaker 7: know that we're able to do it. And for sure
- 5:54Speaker 7: we're going to keep doing it during the season.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And personally, you've been in the major leagues a couple
- 5:59Speaker 2: of seasons now. how different a player are you now
- 6:02Speaker 2: than you were, say, this time a year ago?
- 6:04Speaker 7: Same guy, same guy, just different way to approach the game,
- 6:09Speaker 7: but same guy.
- 6:11Speaker 2: And obviously we talk about home runs, things you're doing
- 6:14Speaker 2: at the plate, you're stealing bases, you're playing good defense.
- 6:17Speaker 2: How important are those two facets of your game?
- 6:20Speaker 7: Yeah, those, like, heat homers for me, like, yeah, it
- 6:23Speaker 7: feels really good, but, like, I take pride in those
- 6:26Speaker 7: two things that you said, like from the base as well.
- 6:29Speaker 7: Always hustling, play good defense. I feel like at some
- 6:33Speaker 7: point those are game-changing, so really keep looking for it.
- 6:39Speaker 3: Angel, congrats.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Thanks for coming by.
- 6:40Speaker 7: Thank you.
- 6:41Speaker 2: And again, we caught up with Angel Martinez pregame yesterday
- 6:45Speaker 2: after the announcement was made, and then he went out
- 6:48Speaker 2: and had two more hits, drove in a run.
- 6:50Speaker 1: The first Guardians player..
- 6:52Speaker 2: With a seven-game hit streak featuring an RBI in seven
- 6:55Speaker 2: straight games since Shinsu Chu did it back in September
- 7:00Speaker 2: of 2013. So it's been a while, and that's the
- 7:03Speaker 2: kind of streak that Angel Martinez has been on. He's
- 7:06Speaker 2: been absolutely terrific.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Stay with us.
- 7:08Speaker 1: We'll have more to come after this.
- 7:11Speaker 8: In baseball, there are plenty of things you can count on.
- 7:14Speaker 8: A sea of foam fingers, kids lining up for autographs,
- 7:17Speaker 8: catching the wave as it makes its way around the stands.
- 7:21Speaker 8: In health care... There are things you can rely on
- 7:23Speaker 8: just the same, like counting on UnitedHealthcare for reliable Medicare
- 7:27Speaker 8: coverage with low out-of-pocket costs. With UnitedHealthcare, you'll find a
- 7:32Speaker 8: wide range of Medicare plans to choose from to fit

- 9:14Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Bet365 Guardians warm-up show. We're in
- 9:17Speaker 2: Detroit at Comerica Park where the Guardians are taking on
- 9:21Speaker 2: the Tigers once again. Let's check in with WKYC with
- 9:24Speaker 2: our pregame weather forecast back home. It's brought to you
- 9:27Speaker 2: by Shores and Islands Ohio.
- 9:30Speaker 10: Awesome scattered showers, thunderstorms trying to return as we get
- 9:33Speaker 10: into the evening and overnight. Part of a cold front
- 9:35Speaker 10: moving through that's going to drop our temperatures into Wednesday.
- 9:38Speaker 10: We'll hover in the 50s for much of the day
- 9:40Speaker 10: with a good breeze coming in from the north. Rain
- 9:43Speaker 10: will be lingering, especially for the first part of the day.
- 9:46Speaker 10: Clouds will stick around. In the 3 News Weather Center,
- 9:48Speaker 10: I'm meteorologist Jessica Van Meter.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Stay with us when we return.
- 9:52Speaker 2: It's Tom Hamilton, manager Stephen Boat, the KeyBank Manager Show.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Next, Alfred Artis. Hi again, everybody, with Cleveland Manager Stephen Boat.
- 10:09Speaker 1: This is Tom Hamilton. Welcome to the Manager Show, the
- 10:11Speaker 1: Manager Show brought to you by KeyBank. You laid it out.
- 10:15Speaker 1: You said if the ball's on the ground, Frambois Valdez
- 10:18Speaker 1: is winning. If Cleveland can get the ball in the air,
- 10:21Speaker 1: you had a chance. Boy, did you execute.
- 10:24Speaker 12: Yeah, our guys went out and executed a great game plan.
- 10:26Speaker 12: I mean, Grant Fink and the hitting team got these
- 10:29Speaker 12: guys prepared for.
- 10:30Speaker 3: Amber really, really well. And our guys went out and executed.
- 10:34Speaker 12: And it's a lot of fun when we have a
- 10:35Speaker 12: plan and we go out and execute it and turned
- 10:38Speaker 12: into a nice win for us last night.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Voter, you can have a plan and then you step
- 10:43Speaker 1: into the batter's box. but it looks like you're executing
- 10:46Speaker 1: your plans here better for the last several weeks. Why?
- 10:49Speaker 12: I think it's just our players are starting to really
- 10:51Speaker 12: understand that when you step into that batter's box, you
- 10:55Speaker 12: have to have a clear plan. If you go up
- 10:57Speaker 12: there just looking for a pitch, trying to hit it,
- 11:00Speaker 12: hoping that it's going to, you're going to lose. These
- 11:02Speaker 12: pitchers are too good, and we know what they're trying
- 11:05Speaker 12: to do. We know what the pitches they have. We
- 11:07Speaker 12: know what they like to do. So this is way
- 11:09Speaker 12: easier said than done. But when you go into it
- 11:12Speaker 12: with a clear plan and you stick to that, you're
- 11:14Speaker 12: going to have a lot more success.
- 11:16Speaker 1: All right. So where is the fine line? Because there
- 11:20Speaker 1: can also be paralysis by analysis, and you're in the
- 11:23Speaker 1: batter's box thinking about the plan, and the ball's in
- 11:26Speaker 1: the catcher's mitt. So how do you navigate that?
- 11:30Speaker 3: It's tough. I mean, it's hitting.
- 11:32Speaker 12: But if your plan is, I've got to hit this
- 11:34Speaker 12: ball in the air, let's keep it as simple as possible.
- 11:38Speaker 12: We really rarely have an elaborate plan. It's usually very
- 11:41Speaker 12: simple because if all I'm trying to do is– pick
- 11:44Speaker 12: up what pitch it is and hit it in the air,
- 11:46Speaker 12: that gives me a clear objective. And so we try
- 11:48Speaker 12: to keep it that simple every single night.
- 11:51Speaker 1: Doesn't hurt when number 11 gets hot.
- 11:53Speaker 3: No, it doesn't.
- 11:55Speaker 12: Man, is it fun to watch Hosey when he's going. And,
- 11:57Speaker 12: you know, we all knew this was coming. The weather
- 12:00Speaker 12: changed and so did Hosey. But, yeah, just great at bats.
- 12:03Speaker 12: He's taking his walks, punishing mistakes. It's just so much
- 12:09Speaker 12: fun when Hosey's going.
- 12:10Speaker 1: How big a deal was it for Slade Ciccone to
- 12:13Speaker 1: get you nearly through eight innings?
- 12:14Speaker 3: Yeah, it was huge.
- 12:16Speaker 12: For Slade to be efficient, for us to create some
- 12:19Speaker 12: separation so that he could keep going, man, did he
- 12:23Speaker 12: answer the call. And to get us seven and a third,
- 12:26Speaker 12: you know, this is two in a row where we've
- 12:27Speaker 12: been able to kind of save the bullpen in the
- 12:29Speaker 12: middle of a 13-game stretch, which is huge. And, you know,
- 12:32Speaker 12: we don't take it for granted. Slade was outstanding last night.
- 12:35Speaker 12: Breaking ball, best breaking ball he's had all year, coupled
- 12:38Speaker 12: with the three fastballs.
- 12:39Speaker 3: It was fun.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Voter, you still have a young team for the most part.
- 12:43Speaker 1: In fact, there are nights where you've got, well, tonight,
- 12:46Speaker 1: you can have four rookies in the lineup because of
- 12:48Speaker 1: a guy like Parker Messick pitching. Is this club forging
- 12:52Speaker 1: its identity? What are you seeing?
- 12:54Speaker 12: We just go out to win every night. It's not
- 12:57Speaker 12: going to look the same every night. It's not going
- 12:58Speaker 12: to be the same suspects.
- 13:00Speaker 3: That's the thing.
- 13:01Speaker 12: We're getting contributions from one through 13 in the position
- 13:04Speaker 12: player side and And we're getting contributions from 1 through
- 13:07Speaker 12: 13 on the pitching side. That's what good teams do.
- 13:09Speaker 12: We use all 26 guys. They're going to help us win.
- 13:13Speaker 12: Parker's been outstanding, and hopefully he gives us another chance tonight.
- 13:16Speaker 1: How do you navigate first base? Because Reese Hoskins has
- 13:20Speaker 1: been a guy throughout his career. He's a streaky hitter,
- 13:23Speaker 1: but you can't get into a hot streak unless you're playing.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yet Kyle Manzardo's about as hot as anybody you have
- 13:30Speaker 1: right now.
- 13:30Speaker 3: If you have any ideas, let me know.
- 13:33Speaker 1: Then we're in trouble.
- 13:35Speaker 12: We're looking at it as a really good problem to have.
- 13:37Speaker 12: We have two very good hitting first basemen. They're both
- 13:40Speaker 12: playing good defense. The tough spot is that Chase DeLauder
- 13:43Speaker 12: and Hosey need to DH a lot of the time.
- 13:46Speaker 12: So it's really hard to get them both in the
- 13:47Speaker 12: lineup at the same time. So we're going to try
- 13:50Speaker 12: and navigate it. We're going to look for the favorable
- 13:51Speaker 12: matchups for both of them. They're both very aware of
- 13:54Speaker 12: their role. They're both very accepting of it. everyone wants
- 13:57Speaker 12: to play more than they are. But we're going to
- 14:00Speaker 12: continue to look for ways to keep Reese going and
- 14:02Speaker 12: keep Kyle going. And like I said, that's one of
- 14:05Speaker 12: the many difficult things in this job is to try
- 14:08Speaker 12: and what's enough playing time, who needs to play more,
- 14:10Speaker 12: and just kind of balance that.
- 14:12Speaker 1: But also, isn't Reese Hoskins bringing something to you in
- 14:15Speaker 1: this clubhouse as well?
- 14:16Speaker 12: Oh, I mean, what he's doing on the field is really,
- 14:18Speaker 12: really good right now. But what he's doing for this
- 14:20Speaker 12: team is immeasurable and invaluable. I mean, the conversations he's
- 14:25Speaker 12: constantly having with our young hitters, the conversations he's having
- 14:28Speaker 12: with our pitchers. He's standing in our bullpens helping our
- 14:31Speaker 12: pitchers understand how their stuff's going to play to right-handed hitters.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Just an unbelievable teammate.
- 14:38Speaker 1: That's hard to do when you're new to a club.
- 14:40Speaker 12: Yeah, and he embraced that role before he even signed
- 14:43Speaker 12: when we spoke. He said he wanted to come in. Obviously,
- 14:46Speaker 12: he wants to play and help us win on the field,
- 14:48Speaker 12: but he's at a point in his career where he's like,
- 14:49Speaker 12: I know that part of my job now is to
- 14:51Speaker 12: help young guys and Reese has done that tenfold, and
- 14:54Speaker 12: he's really given us a lot at the plate, too.
- 14:57Speaker 1: That's Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt, Tom Hamilton, inviting you to
- 15:00Speaker 1: stay tuned. The first pitch from Motown, next on the
- 15:03Speaker 1: Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Beth 365 Guardians warm-up show. Guardians
- 15:17Speaker 2: and Tigers getting ready for game two of the series,
- 15:20Speaker 2: and it's time for the pitching matchup. Left-hander Parker Messick
- 15:23Speaker 2: on the mound for the Guardians, 5-1 on the season,
- 15:27Speaker 2: an earned run average of 2.35 after nine starts. That's
- 15:32Speaker 2: fourth lowest in the American League. In his career, he's
- 15:35Speaker 2: faced the Tigers once. That was last September, and they
- 15:39Speaker 2: pinned a loss on him, scoring four runs in five
- 15:41Speaker 2: innings of work. On the other side, it's right-hander Cater Montero,
- 15:45Speaker 2: 2-3 on the year with an earned run average of 3.65.
- 15:47Speaker 2: That's over eight starts. Only time he's faced the Guardians
- 15:52Speaker 2: was in the 2024 campaign, and he threw well right here.
- 15:56Speaker 2: Six and a third innings of scoreless baseball in a
- 15:59Speaker 2: no decision. That's your pitching matchup. That'll do it for
- 16:01Speaker 2: Guardians warm-up.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Stay tuned. We have the starting lineups in the first pitch.
- 16:05Speaker 1: They come your way next. The Guardian's warm-up show has

- 22:25Speaker 1: From Comerica Park in downtown Detroit, Michigan, it is, believe
- 22:31Speaker 1: it or not, game number 50. Tonight, the Cleveland Guardians
- 22:36Speaker 1: and the Detroit Tigers do battle game two of what
- 22:40Speaker 1: will be a four-game series here in Motown. Hi again, everybody.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Tom Hamilton with you along with Jim Rosenhaus, Brian Motze
- 22:50Speaker 1: back at Command Center, and we have Albert Dale with
- 22:54Speaker 1: us here in the booth in downtown Detroit. What a
- 22:58Speaker 1: gorgeous night, although it sure wasn't that way for much
- 23:02Speaker 1: of the afternoon and evening. as we had heavy downpours.
- 23:07Speaker 1: But now, even though we have ominous skies surrounding the ballpark,
- 23:12Speaker 1: we still have sunshine, which means at this time of
- 23:15Speaker 1: the day, left field is brutal for the left fielder. Man,
- 23:20Speaker 1: it is a tough sun field in left field. And
- 23:24Speaker 1: as this game begins, we'll have some shadows streaking across
- 23:28Speaker 1: the home plate and the pitcher's mound areas, as we
- 23:32Speaker 1: will have more shadows streaking throughout the early stages of
- 23:36Speaker 1: this game as long as that sun is evident, which
- 23:40Speaker 1: it is right now. Cleveland, after a resounding win to
- 23:45Speaker 1: start this series last night, now the best team in
- 23:49Speaker 1: the American League Central Division. A season high, five games
- 23:53Speaker 1: over the 500 mark at 27-22. Cleveland now with a
- 23:58Speaker 1: two-game lead over the Chicago White Sox. Detroit and Kansas
- 24:02Speaker 1: City dead last in the American League Central. Six and
- 24:06Speaker 1: a half games in back of Cleveland as those two
- 24:09Speaker 1: clubs are 20 and 28. The umpires tonight, Ron Culpa.
- 24:15Speaker 1: He is the crew chief. He'll make the calls behind
- 24:18Speaker 1: the plate. Then it's Dylan Wilson at first. Manny Gonzalez
- 24:22Speaker 1: at second, Tom Hanahan at third. As we start this game,
- 24:27Speaker 1: the flags are barely moving, so just a whisper of
- 24:31Speaker 1: a breeze at times, but my goodness, it is really pleasant. However,
- 24:36Speaker 1: the temperature tomorrow is going to plummet about 20 degrees
- 24:40Speaker 1: from the high temps that we have had yesterday and today.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Here in the Motor City. This ballpark opened up in
- 24:48Speaker 1: the year 2000. It seats 41,000. The all dark green seats.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Double deck affair from foul pole around home plate to
- 24:56Speaker 1: foul pole. Outfield seating in left and in right. Massive
- 25:01Speaker 1: center field, 4-12 to dead center, and then in the gaps,
- 25:06Speaker 1: it is 3-70 to left center, just 3-65 to right center.
- 25:12Speaker 1: A long way down that left field line, 3-42 and
- 25:14Speaker 1: 3-30 down the right field line. And, of course, because
- 25:20Speaker 1: of that massive center field and also the deep distance
- 25:25Speaker 1: down the left field line. For instance, 17 feet deeper
- 25:29Speaker 1: down the left field line here than it is in Cleveland.
- 25:32Speaker 1: It just gives you acres of grass to cover in
- 25:35Speaker 1: the outfield. That's why this is always one of the
- 25:39Speaker 1: best parks in baseball for doubles and for triples. There's
- 25:43Speaker 1: also a lot of room in foul territory. Right hander.
- 25:48Speaker 1: Cater Montero to face Cleveland tonight. He'll get it up
- 25:52Speaker 1: there in the mid-90s. A fastball, a sinker, a curve,
- 25:56Speaker 1: and a slider, along with a changeup. Off to a
- 25:59Speaker 1: good start. He will face eight left-handed bats tonight, starting
- 26:03Speaker 1: with the man at the plate, Daniel Schneeman. Montero's ready,
- 26:09Speaker 1: into the wind, tonight's first pitch, and it's in there,
- 26:12Speaker 1: a strike, and we're underway in Motown. 76 degrees, the
- 26:21Speaker 1: official game time, Tim. The next delivery, and Schneeman sends
- 26:26Speaker 1: one high in the air foul down that third base side.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Long run for everybody, and it sneaks over the netting.
- 26:32Speaker 1: Out of play, 0-2. Cater Montero faced Cleveland two years ago.
- 26:40Speaker 1: That's his only start against Cleveland. Won that game, shutting
- 26:43Speaker 1: out Cleveland in six and a third. Montero this year,
- 26:48Speaker 1: two wins, three losses, 365 ERA in eight starts, no
- 26:53Speaker 1: complete games, almost six innings to start, six strikeouts, two
- 26:58Speaker 1: walks per nine. Schneeman pops up the next pitch. This
- 27:02Speaker 1: ball is going to be caught by the shortstop, and
- 27:06Speaker 1: Zach Short in shallow center retires Daniel Schneeman, and that
- 27:10Speaker 1: is out number one. That'll bring up Jose Ramirez. Does
- 27:15Speaker 1: he like hitting in the two-hole? Well, you tell me.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Jose Ramirez has been in the two-hole for five games.
- 27:25Speaker 1: He's been on base 15 times in those games. He
- 27:30Speaker 1: swings and sends this one foul. First base side, strike one.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Jose Ramirez... has had 23 plate appearances in five games
- 27:43Speaker 1: in that number two spot, and he's been on base
- 27:47Speaker 1: 15 of the 23 plate appearances. Incredible. Now the 0-1,
- 27:54Speaker 1: and it's high, one and one to count. So Jose Ramirez,
- 27:58Speaker 1: who's now homered in two straight games, has a batting
- 28:02Speaker 1: average of 240, eight homers, 22 RBIs. The next pitch,
- 28:09Speaker 1: and it's high again. And the count, two balls and
- 28:13Speaker 1: a strike. Jose, also the best when it comes to
- 28:17Speaker 1: stealing bases with 20. And he kills Detroit. Now the
- 28:23Speaker 1: 2-1 in there. Jose Ramirez in his 14th year has
- 28:29Speaker 1: faced Detroit in 169 games, has 36 homers, 45 doubles,
- 28:31Speaker 1: 135 RBIs. The 2-2. Swing and a pop-up. This is playable.
- 28:44Speaker 1: And the first base side of the infield, midway between
- 28:47Speaker 1: first and second. Lee, the second baseman, retires Jose Ramirez.
- 28:53Speaker 1: So a couple of pop-ups to start tonight's ballgame. Two outs,
- 28:58Speaker 1: nobody on base. And that'll bring up Chase DeLauder in
- 29:02Speaker 1: this scoreless first inning. De Lauder batting 275, seven homers,
- 29:08Speaker 1: team high 30 runs batted in. The pitch, and it's
- 29:13Speaker 1: in there, a called strike on the curve. Riley Green
- 29:16Speaker 1: in left, Matt Bierling in center. Wenzel Perez in right. Montero,
- 29:25Speaker 1: the set, the pitch, and it's high, one and one.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Spencer Torkelson as, at first, our first look at how
- 29:33Speaker 1: you lead At second, Sacks short, at short. The rookie
- 29:38Speaker 1: Kevin McGonigal at third and the catcher Dylan Dingler. Now
- 29:42Speaker 1: the 1-1. Up high, ball two, 2-1. No score first inning.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Cleveland a resounding 8-2 win last night. Guardians have won
- 29:53Speaker 1: three in a row, six out of seven. And in
- 29:59Speaker 1: their three-game win streak, they have scored 25 runs, eight
- 30:04Speaker 1: runs a game, 31 hits. The pitch, swung out a
- 30:07Speaker 1: weak chopper to the second baseman. Easy play for Lee.
- 30:11Speaker 1: And it doesn't get much easier than the first inning.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Good changeup from Montero. He will throw that a lot
- 30:19Speaker 1: because Cleveland is very susceptible to it. Guardians go in order.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Tigers coming to bat.

- 32:20Speaker 1: Rookie lefty Parker Messick delivering and Matt Veerling looking and
- 32:24Speaker 1: taking a called strike. Veerling homered last night. Messick, 6 feet, 232,
- 32:31Speaker 1: 25 years of age. The kick and the pitch. And
- 32:34Speaker 1: it's swung on, skied in the air to left, not
- 32:37Speaker 1: very deep. Camped under it is Stephen Kwan. And that
- 32:41Speaker 1: will be out number one. Got him on a good curveball. Well,
- 32:46Speaker 1: Parker Messick, as good a rookie pitcher as there is
- 32:49Speaker 1: in the game. Fastball, sinker, cutter, curve, slider, change. Boy,
- 32:55Speaker 1: against his fastball and sinker, he has been dominant. Left
- 33:01Speaker 1: on left, here's a pair of rookies. Kevin McGonigal looks
- 33:04Speaker 1: at a called strike. Against the four-seam fastball, the opposition
- 33:10Speaker 1: batting 170 against Messick. McGonigal checks, takes a strike on
- 33:16Speaker 1: a breaking ball. And against Messick's sinker, teams are batting 172.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Now the 0-2 delivery. Kerr bounced it in there, 1-2.
- 33:29Speaker 1: And as always, Austin Hedges catching Parker Messick. The lefty
- 33:35Speaker 1: faced Detroit last year, lost it, giving up four runs
- 33:39Speaker 1: in five innings. Kevin McGonigal batting 291. A couple of homers,
- 33:45Speaker 1: 16 RBIs. The pitch to him, and he swings and misses,
- 33:49Speaker 1: and a strikeout for out number two. Parker Messick. Steven
- 33:57Speaker 1: Kwan behind him and left. Daniel Schneeman in center. Angel
- 34:01Speaker 1: Martinez in right. Kyle Manzardo at first. Travis Pazana at second.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Brian Rocchio at short. Jose Ramirez at third. And Austin
- 34:09Speaker 1: Hedges behind the plate. Two down for Jemai Jones. The pitch.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Curveball foul back. Strike one. Jemai Jones, the DH. Right-handed
- 34:21Speaker 1: hitter batting 192. A couple of homers. Six RBIs. Righties
- 34:27Speaker 1: bat 217 against Messick. Lefties 174. The 0-1. Swing and
- 34:36Speaker 1: a miss. Fastball away. 0-2. Messick 5-1 with a 235 ERA.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Nine starts, no complete gains. Six innings to start. Ten strikeouts,
- 34:49Speaker 1: two walks per nine. And the teams batting 206 against him.
- 34:56Speaker 1: The pitch, down in the dirt, one ball, two strikes.
- 35:04Speaker 1: You look at the fact he's given up 14 fewer
- 35:08Speaker 1: hits than innings pitched. He gives up about seven hits
- 35:12Speaker 1: per nine innings. The pitch, got him, swing it. Chase
- 35:16Speaker 1: to change up in the dirt. Jones strikes out. Messick
- 35:19Speaker 1: mows through the Tigers in a hurry. Scoreless in Motown
- 35:23Speaker 1: after one on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
- 35:29Speaker 16: News Radio 570 WKBN Youngstown.
- 35:38Speaker 1: Kyle Manzardo, Travis Pazana, Angel Martinez all will bat left-handed
- 35:44Speaker 1: here in the second inning against the righty Cater Montero.
- 35:48Speaker 1: No score here in what is now an overcast and
- 35:52Speaker 1: threatening skies in downtown Detroit. Montero's pitch. Manzardo looks. Curveball strike. Well, Zach.
- 36:03Speaker 1: Poindexter of Medina. Here's our Conrad score for win for
- 36:07Speaker 1: new tires contestant. Montero's pitch in there. Strike two. Zach
- 36:15Speaker 1: Poindexter of Medina trying to get the Bridgestone tires from
- 36:19Speaker 1: Conrad's Tire Express and Total Car Care. Visit econrads.com to enter. Manzardo.
- 36:26Speaker 1: 223 batting mark. Four homers. 16 RBIs. Went deep twice Sunday.
- 36:33Speaker 1: Takes a little bit high, one and two to go.
- 36:36Speaker 1: It's been tough to get Manzardo and Hoskins in the
- 36:42Speaker 1: lineup every day. Sharing first base. Now the one-two. Down
- 36:50Speaker 1: in the dirt, two and two, but manager Steven Vogt
- 36:52Speaker 1: said tonight he wants to try to get them both
- 36:55Speaker 1: in the lineup at the same time more often. Both
- 37:01Speaker 1: starting to swing it well. And if you missed the
- 37:05Speaker 1: manager's show, Hoskins bringing so much leadership to this clubhouse.
- 37:10Speaker 1: Now the 2-2. Up high, full count. And Manzardo's been
- 37:15Speaker 1: locked in now for three weeks. This is a good
- 37:20Speaker 1: home run hitter's part if you're a pull hitter and
- 37:23Speaker 1: you're left-handed. Only 3.65 to right center. Now the pitch.
- 37:30Speaker 1: Swung and ripped up the middle. Base hit into right center.
- 37:33Speaker 1: Another good swing. Manzardo was down in the count 0-2.
- 37:37Speaker 1: Got the count to 3-2 and smoked it. Here's Travis Pazana.
- 37:42Speaker 1: He's had five hits in the last two ballgames. Hitting
- 37:46Speaker 1: fifth tonight. Since Travis Pazana joined this ball club and
- 37:52Speaker 1: Pazana tonight playing in his 19th Major League team game,
- 37:58Speaker 1: Cleveland leading the major leagues in walks, averaging five walks
- 38:03Speaker 1: a game since Bozana came up from Columbus. The set
- 38:09Speaker 1: and pitch outside. It's not all Bozana, but boy, he
- 38:14Speaker 1: has led by example. Same number of walks as strikeouts.
- 38:20Speaker 1: He has an on-base percentage of 410. Now the 1-0,
- 38:26Speaker 1: and it's high, 2-0. And he's pushed the batting average
- 38:31Speaker 1: now to. 281 with a homer and seven RBIs. Outfield
- 38:37Speaker 1: plays him the other way toward left, medium deep. No
- 38:41Speaker 1: breeze now whatsoever and no more sunshine. The pitch. Up high, 3-0.
- 38:49Speaker 1: No score in the second inning. Marathon is here to
- 38:52Speaker 1: keep you and your team fueled all summer long. Marathon
- 38:56Speaker 1: driven together. Montero's ready, hands just below the chest. He
- 39:04Speaker 1: lets it fly, and it's in there a strike, 3-1.
- 39:12Speaker 1: Travis Pazana. He does not turn 24 until August. Now
- 39:21Speaker 1: the 3-1. Check swing, did he go? Appeal at third,
- 39:25Speaker 1: he did not. He took a curve down low. How
- 39:28Speaker 1: about that for a response? Montero threw a 3-1 curveball
- 39:32Speaker 1: to Bazzana, and he walks again. And so for Travis Bazzana.
- 39:40Speaker 1: He's aboard with a walk, and now Cleveland's got two
- 39:43Speaker 1: men on. Nobody out. No score yet. And the red-hot
- 39:47Speaker 1: Angel Martinez batting left-handed. Tigers up at the corners. Can't
- 39:51Speaker 1: imagine a bunt, but he shows bunt. And he bunts
- 39:55Speaker 1: it back towards the first baseman. Torkelson slings it over
- 39:59Speaker 1: to first. That's interesting. So, a perfect sack bunt. It
- 40:05Speaker 1: goes 3-4 if you're scoring. Martinez with an RBI in
- 40:12Speaker 1: nine straight games laid down the sack bun. So Manzardo
- 40:16Speaker 1: to third, Bazana to second. And here's Steven Kwon. He
- 40:21Speaker 1: walked three times last night. Tigers middle infielders back up
- 40:27Speaker 1: at the corners. The pitch. Kwon sends one in the air.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Medium deep center. Feerling camped under it. Tagging at third, Manzardo.
- 40:37Speaker 1: He's coming home. The throw goes to third. 1-0 Cleveland.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Tigers think he left early. Throw to third. Did he
- 40:44Speaker 1: leave early? The call is. The umpires at home and
- 40:48Speaker 1: third looking at each other. You call it. No, you
- 40:50Speaker 1: call it. Ron Culpa and Tom Hanahan. Neither guy wanted
- 40:55Speaker 1: to make the call. I don't think either guy was looking.
- 41:00Speaker 1: Bottom line, sack fly, 1-0 Cleveland. So give Stephen Kwan
- 41:06Speaker 1: RBI number 11. Manzardo scored with the throw going to third.
- 41:12Speaker 1: Lozano stayed put at second. Now there are two men out.
- 41:17Speaker 1: Catcher Austin Hedges the batter. Montero delivering. Hedges fouling it back,
- 41:24Speaker 1: strike one. Now, Cleveland's been doing all the little things,
- 41:28Speaker 1: and lately they're starting to get leads early and then
- 41:32Speaker 1: starting to separate as the game goes on. And that's
- 41:37Speaker 1: why the back end of the bullpen's in great shape
- 41:39Speaker 1: for tonight's game as far as rest. Now the 0-1 pitch.
- 41:46Speaker 1: And it's in there, a.
- 41:47Speaker 4: Strike, 0-2.
- 41:54Speaker 1: For whatever reason, Cleveland now in the last 10 games
- 41:58Speaker 1: that they've played at Camerica, they have gone 9-1. And
- 42:03Speaker 1: they lead tonight 1-0. The runner at second, two down
- 42:07Speaker 1: in the second. And Cater Montero ready to make the
- 42:12Speaker 1: two-strike pitch to the Guardians catcher. Here it comes. In
- 42:18Speaker 1: the dirt, nice block by Dingler, sliding to his right.
- 42:22Speaker 1: One ball, two strikes. Cleveland, because they're walking so much,
- 42:30Speaker 1: getting on base so much, they have now led the
- 42:34Speaker 1: major leagues in runs scored here in the month of May.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Averaging 5.5 runs a game. The 1-2 pitch to Hedges.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Swing and a ground ball wide at first. Backhanded by Torkelson.
- 42:48Speaker 1: Throws to the pitcher covering. And Montero beat Hedges in
- 42:53Speaker 1: a race to first. Boy, for a moment that looked
- 42:56Speaker 1: like it could be An infield hit. Not quite. Cleveland
- 43:01Speaker 1: leads 1-0, middle of inning number two.
- 43:05Speaker 14: Our yoga instructor challenged us to find inner peace. I
- 43:08Speaker 14: found it faster than anyone. After four seconds, I stood
- 43:11Speaker 14: up and screamed, I found Nirvana! I win!

- 44:49Speaker 16: News Radio 570 WKBN, Youngstown.
- 44:54Speaker 1: 1-0 Cleveland. Parker Messick facing the cleanup hitter, Dylan Dingler.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Right-handed hitting catcher. Rips it on one hop to third.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Backhanded by Ramirez. Throws over. One pitch, one out. Rosie,
- 45:14Speaker 1: you want to... A telltale sign on how these two
- 45:19Speaker 1: teams play the game differently. Cleveland on that sack bunt
- 45:23Speaker 1: that led to a run. That was the team's ninth
- 45:26Speaker 1: sacrifice bunt this year. The next sack bunt that Detroit
- 45:30Speaker 1: has will be their first as Parker Messick faces Riley
- 45:35Speaker 1: Green and pumps one over but low ball one.
- 45:38Speaker 2: And I know there's varying pluses and minuses analytics wise
- 45:41Speaker 2: but I think team wise it creates a team atmosphere
- 45:44Speaker 2: when you can do those little things.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Now the 1-0 pitch to Green. And it's wide. Detroit
- 45:51Speaker 1: kind of lives for the long ball. And right now
- 45:53Speaker 1: they've hit the third fewest home runs in the American League.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Which is why they're 11th in the league in runs scored.
- 46:01Speaker 1: The pitch. In there. And Detroit does not do many
- 46:08Speaker 1: of those little things. Third fewest steals. No sack bunts.
- 46:14Speaker 1: Now the 2-1 pitch. A swing and a miss, 2-2.
- 46:18Speaker 1: Not saying it's right or wrong, but these clubs definitely
- 46:22Speaker 1: play the game in a different fashion. Messick not wasting
- 46:27Speaker 1: any time. The 2-2 to Riley Green. Down and away.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Riley Green's an example. Last year, Riley Green had 36 homers.
- 46:42Speaker 1: This year, four. Now the payoff pitch. Outside, he missed.
- 46:49Speaker 1: And Riley Green took the breaking ball, and he's their
- 46:52Speaker 1: first baserunner. A run-out walk for another guy that you
- 46:57Speaker 1: talk about has to get it going. Last year, Spencer Torkelson,
- 47:03Speaker 1: 31 home runs. This year, batting 191, 6 homers, 17 RBIs.
- 47:06Speaker 1: Tying run at first, one out, second innings. Messick's ready.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Here it comes. And it's swung on. Hit high and
- 47:19Speaker 1: deep to left. Kwon at the wall. It's gone. Now
- 47:24Speaker 1: that's what Detroit has to get. And Torkelson with a
- 47:28Speaker 1: two-run home run to left field. It's his seventh, and
- 47:32Speaker 1: the Tigers have a 2-1 lead here in the second inning.
- 47:37Speaker 1: Sixth home run given up by Parker Messick this year.
- 47:43Speaker 1: And that was a fastball, and Torkelson did not miss it.
- 47:52Speaker 1: That was inside off the plate, and Torkelson turned on
- 47:58Speaker 1: it in a hurry. Here's the switch hitting right fielder,
- 48:02Speaker 1: Wenzel Perez. He'll bat right-handed. He rips one to left,
- 48:06Speaker 1: that's another base hit. Toward the line, cut off by Kwon, spins,
- 48:10Speaker 1: throws to second, and a long single for Perez. So
- 48:15Speaker 1: three in a row a breach, a walk, a bomb,
- 48:19Speaker 1: a single, and this will be our first look at
- 48:24Speaker 1: the young middle infielder. How you lead. How you lead.
- 48:31Speaker 1: First year with the Tigers, he's out of Taiwan. Right-handed batter.
- 48:39Speaker 1: The pitch, and it's down low. Curveball. Lee batting 196,
- 48:44Speaker 1: a homer six RBIs. Tigers got him from the Phillies
- 48:52Speaker 1: three years ago when they traded Michael Lorenzen, a pitcher,
- 48:55Speaker 1: to Philly. Now the pitch. Swing on a changeup and
- 49:00Speaker 1: a fly ball right at the right fielder, Martinez. And
- 49:04Speaker 1: he'll pull it down. And Lee out number two. Two
- 49:08Speaker 1: to one Tigers. Runner first two down. Second inning. Here's
- 49:12Speaker 1: shortstop Zach Short. Now 0-4-11. Hey, when the Guardians win,
- 49:20Speaker 1: your Northeast Ohio Ford dealers donate $ 500 to Cleveland Guardians
- 49:25Speaker 1: Charities for Youth Sports. The lefty sets, exhales, delivers, and
- 49:32Speaker 1: he got a sinker strike in there to Short, who's
- 49:35Speaker 1: 0-4-11 with the Tigers. Right-handed hitter. The pitch. Outside. A changeup.
- 49:51Speaker 1: One and one. Parker Messick. What a start to his career. Officially,
- 50:00Speaker 1: he is a rookie this season. The pitch. A swing
- 50:05Speaker 1: and a liner to third. Caught by Ramirez. The inning
- 50:08Speaker 1: is over, but Spencer Torkelson with a two-run blast to left.
- 50:12Speaker 1: Tigers with a 2-1 lead on the Guardians after two
- 50:16Speaker 1: on the Cleveland Clinic Radio Network.
