- 0:04Hi Jay film here and you are listening to the slippery slope
- 0:09and I thank you for listening to the slippery slope.
- 0:11So I want to get straight into what's happening in Canada.
- 0:15Absolutely blows my mind. I'll go from a report from
- 0:18Reuters as saying. In fact box, it says Canada's
- 0:23emergency act and how will its squeeze funding of the trucker
- 0:27protests So on February the 14th, Canadian Prime Minister
- 0:31Justin Trudeau on Monday. Invoked rarely used special
- 0:35measures to end protests that are shut down some borders, some
- 0:39border crossings and paralyzed downtown Ottawa.
- 0:43He said he would invoke the emergencies act to deal with the
- 0:47freedom. Convoy protests started on
- 0:50January 28, by Canadian truckers opposing a vaccine or quarantine
- 0:55mandate for cross-border drivers.
- 0:59They have turned into a rallying point for people opposed to a
- 1:02range of Trudeau's policies. Including covid-19, pandemic,
- 1:06restrictions and a carbon tax. So the demonstrations shut a
- 1:12main economic Corridor between Canada and the United States for
- 1:15six days before it was reopened and Sunday.
- 1:18So it goes into what actually the emergencies Act is and the
- 1:23ACT gives the government temporary Powers.
- 1:25It does not normally have such as the power to impose Is
- 1:29special restrictions on public assembly and travel.
- 1:34See any. So now, these powers that they
- 1:37don't normally have to impose special restrictions on public
- 1:41Ascent assembly. That's, that's the talk about a
- 1:45slippery slope. You're going into dangerous
- 1:47territory. When you give the government
- 1:49back on Powers goes on to say into and to mobilize Federal
- 1:53support for local and Provincial Police.
- 1:57It goes on further to say, A declaration of a Public Welfare
- 2:00Emergency allows the government to regulate the distribution of
- 2:05essential Goods. Decide what are essential
- 2:08services, and impose fines on violations of the act.
- 2:12It sets out a compensation scheme for those who suffer
- 2:15damages as a result of its application.
- 2:21I'm really sure I was going to say, I'm not sure but I
- 2:25definitely believe the government shouldn't be
- 2:28deciding. What is essential Goods for the
- 2:31people, essential services, and then imposing an imposing fines?
- 2:37Wow, I'm going to keep going, but this next section, please
- 2:41listen, very carefully. I think this is probably one of
- 2:43the most scariest, the scariest rules with these emergency
- 2:48Powers. It says that Banks and financial
- 2:52institutions will be able to temporarily freeze the accounts
- 2:57of those suspected. Added of supporting the
- 3:00blockades without obtaining, a court order.
- 3:03So Banks. Wow, that's, that's just I don't
- 3:08even know how to describe that. How can a bank or financial
- 3:13institution make that decision to freeze your own money?
- 3:18Freeze accounts, if you in some way of supported the blockades
- 3:25and without obtaining, a court order, how can that be?
- 3:29But how can that power be given to a bank or financial
- 3:34institution, or how can the government decide that they can
- 3:37freeze your money? It gives all the power to the
- 3:40government, to freeze your money.
- 3:44The insurance. That goes on the side, the
- 3:46insurance on vehicles being used in the protests can also be
- 3:50suspended. So they're really just taking
- 3:53away all of your right to protest.
- 3:56They are really shutting down. Any free speech.
- 4:00Anything that they do not want said they're completely clamping
- 4:07it down. Goes on in the article to say
- 4:10that all crowdfunding platforms and payment providers.
- 4:13As they use must register with Canada's anti-money, laundering
- 4:18agency, fin track, and report suspicious activity, effective
- 4:22immediately. Now, I read another report.
- 4:25How was it that GoFundMe? I think it is they'd, you know,
- 4:30they didn't want to, although they were keeping the money that
- 4:34was given to the to the truck drivers in Aid of this rally.
- 4:40And then after some pressure, then they decided to give the
- 4:42money back. But they didn't want to support
- 4:44this. Obviously, they support black
- 4:47lives matter, you know, they'll always support that they'll
- 4:50always support the riding in the streets and other places.
- 4:54However, there wouldn't support people who are protesting
- 4:56against the vaccine mandates, never know.
- 4:59Anyway, however, it was a Christian company.
- 5:02What I read a Christian crowdfunding company that had
- 5:05taken on this role of helping with the crowdfunding, and isn't
- 5:10it funny that this is now who the Canadian?
- 5:13Mint is attacking with these crowdfunding platforms and, you
- 5:18know, I'll keep going on. So the ACT will broaden the
- 5:21scope of the government's anti monitoring anti-money laundering
- 5:24and terrorist financing rules. It's strange how they lump all
- 5:30this in with terrorism. Okay.
- 5:33The the changes are being introduced because crowdfunding
- 5:36platforms are being used to support in illegal activities.
- 5:39The government said, well it depends, it's what the
- 5:43government is. Just activities that the
- 5:45government doesn't want to happen.
- 5:46Doesn't necessarily mean it's illegal.
- 5:48The emergency measures would also allow the government to
- 5:51order towing companies to provide their services to clear
- 5:55blockades, Trudeau said, the measures would be
- 5:59geographically, specific and targeted only To where they are
- 6:03needed. There will also be time limited
- 6:07where I seriously my mind is blown with the use with the
- 6:12extensive powers in this emergency Act and the Very fact
- 6:16that the government would use this against their own people,
- 6:19instead of sitting down and listening to their concerns and
- 6:22why, and taking note of why they're protesting, they would
- 6:26rather bring in these these dictator Style, Emergency
- 6:33powers. It's outrageous.
- 6:37So this article goes on to explain what the history of the
- 6:41emergency Act is, and it says, it's previously known as the war
- 6:44measures act. The emergency act has been used,
- 6:48only three-time three times in Canadian history.
- 6:51So during the, to First during the two world wars and in 1970
- 6:57by Trudeau's father, who's the late prime minister Pierre
- 7:01Trudeau after militant kubek separatists kidnapped, At a
- 7:05British Diplomat and of and a provincial cabinet minister.
- 7:10So Justin Trudeau considered using the act at the start of
- 7:14the pandemic and what was his justification for that it goes
- 7:18on to say that the Canadian Parliament has to approve, the
- 7:22use of the ACT within seven days of the government invoking.
- 7:24The emergency powers and Parliament.
- 7:26Also has the power to revoke its approval So, just a couple of
- 7:32thoughts here. I cannot like I said, this, this
- 7:35just blows my mind that they would that the Canadian
- 7:38government. This Western supposedly
- 7:41democratic government, would use these kinds of powers on its own
- 7:44people like this, the fact that it gives powers to restrict
- 7:50public assembly and also travel, and the fact that it gives the
- 7:55government the power over over citizens, fine.
- 8:00Nance has to be able to freeze their accounts on suspicion.
- 8:05On a suspicion of supporting the blockades suspicion of
- 8:10supporting these truck drivers who would who would dare protest
- 8:16the freedom Convoy mean, how dare they protest and how dare
- 8:20you support this protest? We are now going to freeze your
- 8:24money. The money that you have in your
- 8:26bank, we are going to freeze it and you can't buy anything.
- 8:32Keep saying, we need to keep making our politicians
- 8:37accountable, we need to keep them accountable and of the
- 8:40preview Canada. This is not good, not good, for
- 8:43a supposedly Democratic Nation. That's my opinion.
- 8:49Thank you for listening to the slippery slope.
