- 0:00Tracy: Kia ora, and welcome to Constellations and All That.
- 0:03Tracy: I'm your host, Tracey Cartwright, and together we will be exploring the world of family constellations with facilitators from, and clients from around the world.
- 0:13Tracy: Looking at different perspectives and experiences in the work, having a cup of tea, and just chatting with some friends around their experiences in constellations.
- 0:23Tracy: We'd love for you to join us.
- 0:25Tracy: I hope that you enjoy this series as much as I have loved making it.
- 0:33Tracy: Kia ora everyone.
- 0:34Tracy: Welcome to Constellations and All That.
- 0:36Tracy: Today, I have the utmost pleasure of talking to this divine goddess, Trin Tambo.
- 0:40Tracy: Hello, Trin.
- 0:41Trin: Hello, hello.
- 0:42Trin: Here we are.
- 0:43Tracy: Oh, I'm so excited to have you on here.
- 0:45Trin: Oh, it's an absolute pleasure to be here, and feels like it's been a long time coming.
- 0:51Tracy: Mm.
- 0:51Trin: And I'm excited that it's finally today.
- 0:54Tracy: Yay.
- 0:55Tracy: I love that you're framed.
- 0:56Tracy: For those who can't see Trin, she's framed with a beautiful mandala be- behind her.
- 0:59Tracy: It's almost like that's your… For me, I'm looking at it as like your glowing light is coming th- in through.
- 1:05Tracy: Yeah.
- 1:05Tracy: Kinda like the image of the Madonna, I suppose.
- 1:08Tracy: The light of life, I call it.
- 1:10Trin: Yeah.
- 1:10Tracy: Would you like to share- Yeah … a little bit about yourself, and where you are, and what it is that you
- 1:14Trin: do?
- 1:14Trin: Yeah.
- 1:15Trin: Sitting on the land of the beautiful people of the S- Sapphire Coast in Southern New South Wales, and have recently moved back here.
- 1:25Trin: So this is the place where I was born, uh, in the Bega Valley, and we have been here for two and a half months settling back into life after moving from Queensland.
- 1:35Trin: The name of the people did escape me, but it's come back, so it's the Yuin nation down here, and it's very dear to my heart and soul, and- I just love that m- it's like every cell in my body knows this country down here, and, um, it's been great rediscovering it.
- 1:54Trin: I am a holistic counselor and family constellation facilitator, and came across family constellation 20 years ago now on my own healing journey.
- 2:04Trin: And as soon as I stepped into a two-day workshop up in the hinterland of Byron with a beautiful, uh, elder named Bubula.
- 2:12Trin: She w- um, believe she's one of the first or maybe the first to bring- I under-… Tracy: constellation over.
- 2:15Trin: My understanding is she was the first one to bring it into Australia.
- 2:17Trin: Yeah.
- 2:18Trin: Yeah.
- 2:18Trin: Yeah, so I was very blessed to sit with her as she was coming into really- Mm.
- 2:24Trin: She was sort of a while after that, but, um, she also lived down here on the Sapphire Coast and, uh, we have that connection.
- 2:31Trin: So yes, that really launched me into such a beautiful journey of healing for me, but also meeting so many teachers and the community that you also are part of and are walking as well.
- 2:46Tracy: Yeah.
- 2:46Tracy: It's a, it's an, uh, what would you describe it?
- 2:49Tracy: Pathway.
- 2:49Tracy: I, I guess without getting too… It's just an amazing pathway to be on, I think.
- 2:53Trin: Yeah.
- 2:54Tracy: Bubula?
- 2:54Tracy: Bubula?
- 2:55Tracy: Is that who you- Bubula.
- 2:55Tracy: Bubula.
- 2:56Tracy: Yeah.
- 2:56Tracy: Is Bubula still alive?
- 2:57Trin: She is.
- 2:58Trin: She's up north, just north of here, probably an hour away from where I live.
- 3:02Trin: And, um- Mm my intention is to meet up with her again- Beautiful … uh, sometime soon, 'cause she's in her 80s now, so it'll be great to reconnect.
- 3:11Tracy: I'd love to connect with her too and bring, have her on the podcast.
- 3:13Tracy: That'd be-
- 3:13Trin: Yeah… Tracy: really nice.
- 3:14Trin: Very cool.
- 3:14Trin: That'd be… Yeah.
- 3:16Tracy: Mm. 'Cause her name has been mentioned a few times by different people, so that'd be- Yeah really, really cool.
- 3:20Trin: Yeah.
- 3:20Tracy: How do you describe when you're working with people or you've got clients that you feel, "Oh, a constellation would really work for them," and, and you're trying to describe it to them, how, what's the language that you use?
- 3:29Trin: I always say it's very hard to explain, and it is such a experiential, or like a somatic work that I encourage people just to trust if it feels, you know, in resonance with them to sit with me, and I will be there to support them through whatever is happening for them.
- 3:48Trin: But also to- Really explain that it's not just them.
- 3:55Trin: It's not just their stuff.
- 3:56Trin: They also, you know, are connected to their lineage, to their history, to, you know, we carry so much through- Mm … our DNA, through our, you know, f- family's lived experience that we really get to have a look back and see what those patterns are, what's holding us back in life, and so we can step forward in a different way instead of, you know, repeating those patterns over and over again.
- 4:21Trin: Yeah.
- 4:21Trin: It's, um, a tricky one, trying to explain constellation.
- 4:24Tracy: Sometimes, eh?
- 4:25Tracy: Depends on the person, I think,
- 4:26Trin: too.
- 4:26Trin: Yeah, that too.
- 4:27Tracy: Who you're, who you're talking to or with.
- 4:28Trin: That too, yeah.
- 4:29Trin: Mm. Some people just get it straight away, and others it's so foreign.
- 4:32Trin: But I think that r- being in r- that real relational way of connection and I think f- feeling the energy, you know, between- Mm whoever I- Yeah … I connect with, and yeah, respecting what they need, um, and trying not to project my own- Yeah … thoughts on that, you know?
- 4:51Tracy: Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:52Trin: Yeah.
- 4:52Trin: Yeah.
- 4:53Tracy: Do you do, um, groups or one-on-ones or both?
- 4:55Trin: Both.
- 4:56Trin: So the last few years I've been based at a midwife practice up in Ipswich in Queensland.
- 5:01Trin: So I've worked a lot with, uh, families, with couples, doing groups with postpartum, and also my passion really is around supporting women who, and dads, who have experienced birth trauma and loss so that with their second, third, whatever, you know, consecutive children it's a, a different experience.
- 5:20Trin: And I've worked with the midwives in that way.
- 5:23Trin: And I also supported the midwives, um-
- 5:25Tracy: Mm… Trin: through their So that was a really- I can only just, I can only imagine what it must be like for, well, for the whole lot, you know?
- 5:31Trin: Yeah.
- 5:32Trin: Yeah, so it's a-
- 5:33Tracy: So can you tell me a little bit more about that?
- 5:34Tracy: How would you… Is there a, is there a way that you could describe a scenario where you have used or been part of supporting someone with a constellation or with the therapy or whatever?
- 5:42Trin: Mm-hmm.
- 5:43Tracy: Mm.
- 5:43Trin: I really love groups for that reason, so bringing in a group of, of new moms with their babies, so we would ac- you know, obviously they need their, need to be with their new, newborn.
- 5:54Trin: So- Mm … we would just bring them together and do a round circle and just checking in.
- 6:01Trin: And Bringing in support, so support of each other, and just having the- Mm-hmm… those discussions of, you know, how quite often it's that isolation that comes in.
- 6:12Tracy: Mm.
- 6:13Trin: Um, and then with birth trauma, that was quite a, yeah, a group scenario as w- well, and loss as well, so bringing in the collective to hold that- Mm-hmm um, field to, to be there, to be seen, be held in a different way.
- 6:28Trin: And, um, also we would bring… have the midwife there too, so then they, it, it was healing for both of them, especially if there was a loss there or something like that.
- 6:37Tracy: Yeah.
- 6:38Tracy: Wow.
- 6:38Trin: Yeah.
- 6:38Trin: It's really beautiful.
- 6:39Tracy: I think it's wonderful that nowadays there's so much more awareness around, and that need for grief, but the awareness around, um, the support and, and resourcing, and not just shoving it under the carpet saying, "You'll be right.
- 6:51Tracy: This happens to, this has happened to lots of people over time." Because that's what happened to my parents.
- 6:55Trin: Yeah.
- 6:55Tracy: Um, and they never spoke about it.
- 6:57Tracy: Yeah.
- 6:57Tracy: They, they carried their grief to their grave.
- 6:59Trin: Yeah.
- 7:00Trin: Yes.
- 7:00Trin: Yeah.
- 7:00Trin: It was, yeah, you just had to shut up and get on with it, and I felt a bit like that for me after giving birth to my son, and it was such a traumatic experience.
- 7:10Trin: And there was… I really felt that expectation of just get on with it.
- 7:14Trin: And looking back, my whole nervous system was in absolute shock and- Mm … disconnection.
- 7:20Trin: Yet, yeah, and I tried to reach out and find people that were quite, you know, experts I guess in that field, and it was like a six-month waiting list to get to see those people.
- 7:30Trin: But, uh, you know.
- 7:31Tracy: So you've created it.
- 7:32Trin: That's why, yeah, that's where my passion is- Yeah … because it wasn't there for me, so I would love to have it there for others so they didn't experience that, um, disconnection for so long.
- 7:41Trin: And I think, yeah, bringing the group in is also a beautiful way of creating- Mm space for more people.
- 7:47Trin: Yeah.
- 7:47Tracy: And the understanding too, isn't it?
- 7:48Tracy: 'Cause like when you're having your w- particularly your, like your first child, you're kind of, you're guessing.
- 7:53Tracy: Yeah.
- 7:53Tracy: You might have read a book or two.
- 7:54Tracy: Yeah.
- 7:54Tracy: Watched a video.
- 7:55Tracy: Watched what do you know?
- 7:56Tracy: But really you're kind of making it up as you go.
- 7:59Trin: Yeah.
- 8:00Trin: Absolutely.
- 8:01Trin: And I didn't have family around either'cause I was in Queensland, so… And I was very overdue, so then my husband went back to work pretty much straight away, and my- Mm … all my family had come up, but they all had to go back to their lives like basically the day after I got home.
- 8:16Trin: So it was just like- I'm just in this, uh, alone.
- 8:20Trin: And the birth was like that too, so, um, yeah, it's a lot really.
- 8:24Tracy: So when you look at that in a systemic, through a systemic lens-
- 8:27Trin: Yeah… Tracy: w- was that a repeating I feel like I was very, I feel like my grandmother on my mom's side experienced that in some way.
- 8:38Trin: She did have her mom around, but I feel like there was a lot of aloneness within that, uh, her births, and a lot of tra- huge amount of trauma there.
- 8:46Trin: So, yeah.
- 8:48Tracy: Even, even if you think of the ancestors coming over, right?
- 8:50Tracy: So I don't know how many generations your family's been in Australia, but the ones that came over and started that first generation.
- 8:56Trin: Yes.
- 8:57Tracy: And they had no one around them.
- 8:58Trin: Yes.
- 8:59Trin: Yes, I've got, I think we're fifth generation on my dad's side.
- 9:03Trin: They came out from Scotland, and yeah, it- we've actually just done a, quite a bit of research on that and just the, how they survived that journey- Mm … and the conditions, and, um, yeah, incredible to-
- 9:15Tracy: So, so Tembo's not a Scottish name.
- 9:17Tracy: That's your husband's name?
- 9:18Trin: Yeah, that's my husband's name.
- 9:19Trin: So my maiden name's Nicholson.
- 9:21Tracy: Okay.
- 9:21Trin: Yeah.
- 9:22Trin: And-
- 9:22Tracy: Oh, well, I'm a Campbell, so there you go.
- 9:24Trin: Oh.
- 9:24Tracy: Couple of Scottish-
- 9:24Trin: Well, my mom's side is Campbell, so-
- 9:28Tracy: Ah… Trin: we might be related.
- 9:29Tracy: We might be.
- 9:30Tracy: We might be, because I know that there were some Campbells that w- that went to Australia, uh, in the, um, of the siblings.
- 9:35Trin: Yes.
- 9:36Trin: Oh, well, that wouldn't surprise me.
- 9:38Tracy: You never know, eh?
- 9:39Trin: Yeah.
- 9:40Trin: We'll have to look into it.
- 9:41Tracy: And so where is your husband from?
- 9:42Trin: He is, well, he was born in Brisbane, but- Yeah … his lineage is he's South Sea Islander.
- 9:48Trin: Yeah.
- 9:48Trin: So his ancestors were taken from Vanuatu and brought to Australia to work in the cane fields as- In
- 9:54Tracy: the blackbirding
- 9:55Trin: time?
- 9:55Trin: In the blackbirding time, about 150 years ago or so.
- 9:59Trin: Mm. And he's also got indigenous, Australian indigenous on his dad's side.
- 10:05Trin: And, uh, there's some Scottish in there and some German.
- 10:10Trin: So yeah, and possibly some New Guinea.
- 10:12Trin: We're not sure about that, but yes.
- 10:14Tracy: Mm.
- 10:14Trin: Yeah.
- 10:15Trin: Very beautiful family and community, and feel very blessed to be part of.
- 10:20Trin: To take that, well, to have that as my last name, you know- Mm part of that, that- Yeah … history and connection.
- 10:25Tracy: Beautiful.
- 10:25Tracy: He looks like a very kind, gentle man.
- 10:27Trin: He's beautiful.
- 10:28Trin: He's just all heart, and yeah, he's … I'm very lucky to have him-
- 10:32Tracy: And it-… Trin: on my side.
- 10:33Tracy: How does he… Does he know about what you do and the work?
- 10:36Tracy: Is he connected to it, or is he just happy for you to do it?
- 10:39Trin: He has come along to some workshops with Marguerite Upie-Melanie to be, if we ever need extra men, he'll come along.
- 10:46Trin: But he's, he's more of a wit- he lo- likes witnessing, but he's also very happy not to be part of it and just let me go and do my thing.
- 10:56Trin: He said it's very important work, and he-
- 10:58Tracy: Mm… Trin: is here to support, you know, That's beautiful.
- 11:03Tracy: My husband, for the first time, I'll be telling this, um, only last year came to anything even close.
- 11:09Tracy: He's been to a- Wow … he's been to a couple of workshops where he's dropped food off.
- 11:12Trin: Yeah.
- 11:12Tracy: But he's kind of almost running out the door in case we get him in the field.
- 11:15Trin: Yes.
- 11:16Tracy: And, um, when we went to Lombok last year, he, he stayed for the opening ceremony part.
- 11:21Tracy: Yeah.
- 11:21Tracy: And I just was so, just so happy for him to be in that part.
- 11:24Tracy: Yeah.
- 11:24Tracy: And then he ended up, um, coming and being part of, I did a cacao journey and sound activation evening.
- 11:31Trin: Yeah.
- 11:31Tracy: And, and he was part of that, and then part of the closing ceremony, and that was the most that he's ever been anywhere near my work in that way.
- 11:37Tracy: Yeah.
- 11:37Tracy: But he, he's really happy to be home, to be… He's a very, he's a Cancerian, so he just loves being home.
- 11:42Trin: Yeah.
- 11:43Tracy: Doing, uh, looking after the house.
- 11:45Tracy: We had a young, youngish son for, who's now a grown man, but um, he was just happy to be dad doing his thing with, with Ben.
- 11:51Tracy: Yeah.
- 11:51Trin: Yeah, same as Sel.
- 11:52Trin: Yeah.
- 11:52Trin: He's like, take the dogs for a walk, hang out with our, our boy, and go fishing or, you know.
- 11:59Tracy: Yeah.
- 11:59Trin: And just… I don't know.
- 12:00Trin: He's very grounded and yeah, he, he doesn't, it's almost like he doesn't need to be in that space because he holds space- So beautifully in a lot of ways, so.
- 12:10Tracy: I would say the same thing too.
- 12:11Trin: Yeah.
- 12:11Trin: Yeah.
- 12:12Trin: Yeah.
- 12:12Tracy: And, and I don't, um, I don't even try and explain things really 'cause-
- 12:15Trin: No… Tracy: uh, he, nah, it's not his.
- 12:18Trin: And I don't need to repeat it, so.
- 12:19Trin: Yeah.
- 12:19Trin: It's good.
- 12:20Trin: It's very, really good.
- 12:21Trin: It is.
- 12:21Trin: And they're just there if you do need a hug or… Yeah, it's really beautiful.
- 12:25Trin: Yeah.
- 12:26Trin: Took me a, took me a long time to find, you know, I had very, uh, relationships were very challenging through, you know, from teen times, and a lot of healing.
- 12:35Trin: And I really thank constellation for bringing me to this relationship and choosing him to be the father of my child, and I just think if it had have been anyone else, my life now and doing my work as a counselor and, um, constellation facilitator, I think that it would look very, very different- Mm … if I'd, uh, if I'd had a different partner.
- 12:57Trin: And it may not have evolved to what it is today, so yeah.
- 13:01Tracy: What has constellations taught you about love?
- 13:04Trin: I, every time I sit in the field, it, I sit with my heart.
- 13:08Trin: It's almost like this, the field speaks through my heart.
- 13:14Trin: It's like this absolute anchor.
- 13:16Trin: Um, and I guess that's how I work, i- is following that energy of my heart.
- 13:21Trin: Like, it's such a somatic experience, and I guess that overlaps into my life where I really do follow my heart.
- 13:29Trin: Like, I'll, I'll get a, I'll get an image or a, uh, that dreaming of something, wanting to do something, and yeah, it's my heart that really leads the way.
- 13:37Trin: So I think constellation has enabled me to really trust that a lot more, and I think also my heart is always looking to meet others, other people's hearts.
- 13:47Trin: Like, and I really notice when that's closed down in others, and I, it's okay.
- 13:52Trin: I just no- I just notice it, you know?
- 13:55Trin: And I think that what I find when we sit together and meet in, um, constellation is- After being together in a group, it doesn't matter how many years later, you'll come across a person that you've connected with, and it's a different way of relating.
- 14:09Trin: It's like you know each other on a deeper level-
- 14:12Tracy: Mm-hmm.
- 14:12Tracy: Mm-hmm… Trin: from sitting in a group I remember Dan Cohen.
- 14:17Tracy: We did a, a weekend, or four days or something, with Dan Cohen.
- 14:20Tracy: And he said, he said, "Look around the room." He says, "You might not know anyone here, but by the end of it you'll be in love with everyone.
- 14:25Tracy: You know, you'll have a real heart resonance." And I remember thinking,"Uh, you know, whatever." By the end of it I was like, "Oh, my God.
- 14:31Tracy: I love you all so much."
- 14:33Trin: Yes.
- 14:33Trin: It just changes.
- 14:34Trin: It's just so honest.
- 14:35Trin: I think that's what it is.
- 14:36Trin: It's just that-
- 14:37Tracy: Well, you can't… But let's just say this, you can't bullshit the field, right?
- 14:40Trin: No.
- 14:41Trin: You can't.
- 14:41Trin: It's just-
- 14:42Tracy: Like, and you can't be someone that you're not.
- 14:43Tracy: Yeah.
- 14:44Tracy: That you're… Yeah.
- 14:45Tracy: Because it just, it j- just won't w- move.
- 14:48Tracy: Yeah.
- 14:48Trin: And it's a choice to sit in that space, and I think you need… There has to be a element of readiness to choose that for yourself.
- 14:56Tracy: Absolutely.
- 14:57Tracy: Absolutely.
- 14:57Tracy: Have you ever had to say to someone,"Oh, I can't go any further,"'cause they, they, they've been in that space of just, like, want… You know, like- Yeah … wanting to be right, wanting to make themselves look-
- 15:05Trin: Yep.
- 15:06Trin: Had to definitely close it down at times.
- 15:09Trin: Not often, but, um, sometimes there is a real block there and- It's like we've seen enough, you know?
- 15:16Tracy: Mm. And that- p- part of our human conditioning, right?
- 15:18Tracy: If we've been in the programming that comes in when we've, you know, through early childhood or through the traumatic experiences or, or what's been passed down.
- 15:26Trin: Yeah.
- 15:27Tracy: And, uh, yeah, it d- it really doesn't allow, the field doesn't allow you to do that when you're in your heart.
- 15:32Trin: Yeah.
- 15:32Tracy: And, um, and, and wanting to move things, 'cause that is… And this is what this says, right?
- 15:37Trin: Yeah.
- 15:37Tracy: I'm trying to read the… Can you read it out for me again?
- 15:39Trin: I forgot the question, but the answer is love.
- 15:41Trin: The answer is always love.
- 15:42Tracy: Yeah.
- 15:43Tracy: I had to ask Trin to read that, because for me it's backwards, completely backwards on the screen.
- 15:47Tracy: But, but I know it's flipped for you guys.
- 15:49Tracy: And it is.
- 15:50Tracy: It, and it's taken, um, been a wonder- wondrous journey getting there to understand that on many levels, and I'm sure there are many more levels and, and textures to it.
- 16:00Trin: Yeah.
- 16:00Trin: Absolutely.
- 16:01Trin: Yes, I think, um, even if there is that block there, and it does feel like that's enough, like if we've done a, l- a piece of work and it's like, yeah, that's, that's enough.
- 16:10Trin: Just also being in, checking in, you know, s- to really keep that relational field open and not just obviously closing it down, like that's it.
- 16:19Trin: It's still staying in your heart as a facilitator to really be with that person and-
- 16:23Tracy: Mm… Trin: really honor where they're And that helps to regulate cur- uh, with the regulation, but it also brings a curiosity.
- 16:31Trin: Yes.
- 16:32Tracy: Mm.
- 16:32Trin: Yes.
- 16:33Trin: And there's, you know, that's that layer, d- you know?
- 16:35Trin: We'll close that, that for today, and next time-
- 16:39Tracy: Well, let's see what that brings forward another.
- 16:41Trin: Yeah, that's it.
- 16:42Trin: Yeah.
- 16:43Trin: It's really beautiful.
- 16:43Tracy: Yeah.
- 16:44Tracy: Yeah.
- 16:45Tracy: How has your family, um, benefited from, from your work?
- 16:49Trin: I've really noticed subtle changes in relationships since doing this work.
- 16:54Trin: Even t- the fact that my dad can say that he loves us, you know, that wasn't, didn't come easy growing up to-
- 17:01Tracy: Yeah
- 17:02Trin: for him to express that, and now it's just- flows, and it's really beautiful to feel that as well.
- 17:08Trin: And with my sisters, I was actually part of a constellation, um, during training at the Systemic Constellation Academy in Maleny, and it was like my family I'd just stepped into.
- 17:17Trin: But it was about the sisters really looking at each other and instead of always looking at the parents going, trying to figure them out, but really coming together to connect with each other.
- 17:27Trin: And I've, since doing that one, I really have felt a shift with my sisters and our relationships.
- 17:32Tracy: How many sisters have you got?
- 17:33Trin: Two.
- 17:33Tracy: And where do, where are you in that order?
- 17:35Trin: I'm, I'm the eldest, and then, um, I've got a middle sister.
- 17:39Trin: We share the same parents, and then our little sister has a different mom.
- 17:43Trin: And I also have, or we have, a brother out there in the world that we've never met.
- 17:47Trin: Um, I found out about him when I was 16.
- 17:48Trin: So, uh, yeah, so he's included in there somehow as well, but I don't know, um, how that's impacted his life.
- 17:55Trin: I've never met him,
- 17:56Tracy: so.
- 17:56Tracy: So he, you put him into the constellation, in- into the field?
- 17:59Trin: I have numerous times doing work- Yeah … really including him in there, so yeah.
- 18:04Tracy: Mm.
- 18:05Trin: Yeah.
- 18:05Tracy: Beautiful.
- 18:06Tracy: Giving him a place.
- 18:07Trin: Yes.
- 18:09Trin: It's a sh- bit of a shock when you're 16 and you find out you're actually not the firstborn.
- 18:12Tracy: Yeah, I imagine.
- 18:13Tracy: Been wearing those boots for a while.
- 18:15Trin: Yeah.
- 18:16Tracy: Was, yeah, but now as you're older, has it-
- 18:18Trin: I think sometimes I still feel like I'm the firstborn, you know, in some ways.
- 18:21Trin: I guess I am in, you know, our little-
- 18:23Tracy: System, yeah… Trin: our little system, but yeah.
- 18:26Tracy: It, it's- Mm … it is what it is.
- 18:28Tracy: It's, uh, interesting families, isn't it?
- 18:29Tracy: What you think as, when you're young, what your family is, and then as you grow up and have your own relationships and, you know, look at the messiness of it all.
- 18:38Tracy: Mm.
- 18:40Trin: Yeah.
- 18:40Tracy: Yeah.
- 18:41Tracy: When we think we, we grew up in a real normal family.
- 18:43Trin: Yeah.
- 18:43Tracy: Quotation marks.
- 18:45Tracy: Um, what's normal?
- 18:46Tracy: What's normal?
- 18:47Trin: Yes.
- 18:48Trin: Absolutely
- 18:49Tracy: Let's see, what else does the field want me to ask?
- 18:51Tracy: What was one of the, some of the biggest less- or one of the biggest lessons that you learned on your training?
- 18:54Trin: I think stepping into, stepping from the student to the facilitator, and really stepping into that place.
- 19:00Trin: It took me years and years and years and years, and which I think y- I have such, uh, respect for this work, and I really did feel like I needed a long time to gather all those resources and confidence and things.
- 19:14Trin: But that's been very healing, to step into that place of- Mm … the facilitator.
- 19:20Trin: And, a- and a colleague, you know?
- 19:22Trin: To have colleagues in this-
- 19:24Tracy: Yeah… Trin: field is, um… It's nice So allowing you to be seen?
- 19:29Trin: Yeah.
- 19:30Trin: Instead of hiding behind everyone else and, and you know, at the back of the class, which I'm very good at, to actually stepping forward.
- 19:35Trin: Yeah.
- 19:36Tracy: As you were, as you were describing that, I was thinking,"Oh, the complete opposite to me.
- 19:39Tracy: I kind of just jumped in the deep end and thrashed around like a shark for a while, not quite knowing."
- 19:45Trin: Yeah.
- 19:45Tracy: But, but still swimming.
- 19:46Trin: Yeah
- 19:47Tracy: Until I could find that equilibrium, you know?
- 19:50Tracy: Like, it's, it really is at, at the beginning, isn't it?
- 19:52Tracy: Like, as, as much prep work as you wanna do.
- 19:54Trin: Yeah
- 19:55Tracy: Um, because it's, it's, it's a, it's a whole different experience.
- 19:58Trin: It is, and I think my hesitancy really did stem from my background from school and being dyslexic and getting it wrong all the time, and not wa- you know, I did just hide as much as I could because I didn't understand it, whereas as soon as I stepped into that first wo- workshop, I got it.
- 20:18Trin: Like-
- 20:18Tracy: Same… Trin: it was just like, yes, I know this But that's where h- so much healing had to happen to, um… And I really honor my beautiful German colleagues who have seen me and supported me to step into that place, you know?
- 20:34Tracy: To have Margarete and Toni and Mel.
- 20:37Tracy: Yeah.
- 20:37Tracy: Um, Mel really encouraged me.
- 20:39Tracy: Like, she, she was like, "Come on, Trin," like, and opened up opportunities for me to step in and, and same as Margarete and, and Toni.
- 20:48Tracy: So yeah, so blessed to be, have them in my life and, uh, their support.
- 20:53Tracy: So yeah, it's great.
- 20:55Tracy: Fabulous.
- 20:56Tracy: Do your family know what you do?
- 20:58Tracy: Do they?
- 20:58Trin: Yeah, my mom actually did a family constellation, um, workshop- Before me.
- 21:03Trin: And her, her best friend, and I call Robin my fairy godmother.
- 21:11Trin: She was the one that just kept going, "You need to go and do a constellation training.
- 21:14Trin: You need to, you need to." And then I did, I'm like, "I love this" And then she handed me a fl- a leaflet, um, flyer saying, about the holistic counseling course and it incorporated family constellation training.
- 21:25Trin: And with Marguerita.
- 21:26Trin: And, uh, before I even signed up to that, I ended up going up to Maleny and, um, doing a workshop with Marguerita as well.
- 21:32Trin: And that was like, "Yes, I have to do this." So yeah, um, because of- It
- 21:36Tracy: kind of finds you, eh, right?
- 21:37Tracy: It-
- 21:38Trin: Yeah… Tracy: when you're ready, it'll find you.
- 21:40Trin: Yeah, yeah.
- 21:40Trin: And, uh-
- 21:41Tracy: Even if you don't
- 21:42Trin: think you're ready … so fa- yeah, basically family introduced it and encouraged it and that's how I, yeah, it all started.
- 21:48Trin: So it's great.
- 21:50Tracy: Fantastic.
- 21:51Tracy: I'm just waiting for the field to throw some more questions at me.
- 21:53Trin: Yep.
- 21:54Tracy: Where do you see yourself going with it?
- 21:55Tracy: I know you said that you're doing the, um, preparing, you know, the parents and you're doing, you've been working with midwives.
- 22:00Tracy: Is that still where you're seeing yourself go forward?
- 22:03Trin: Um, because of this move, a new beginning, I'm in such a time of transition, and I've been questioning the same thing.
- 22:11Trin: Wh- what does it look like?
- 22:13Trin: Um, I am so open to working with whatever's present, I guess.
- 22:18Trin: Um, I have a room at a naturopathic clinic down here in Merimbula, uh, and I'm seeing clients there, and it's such a, a vast range of people.
- 22:28Trin: It's not, you know, one specific area, and I'm totally happy with that.
- 22:32Trin: I think that I will always have s- capacity and connection to that, um, field of birth and, uh, yeah, I'm sure there would be connections down here that could open up doors to that space too.
- 22:46Trin: Interestingly, I've caught up with a couple of midwives that I've known through my life who are now retired and, you know, it's interesting they've, you know, come, come in.
- 22:55Trin: But also, before I moved down it sort of felt like a l- there's a lot of aging population.
- 23:00Trin: I, you know, the reason we're here is 'cause my dad's been unwell and here to support him.
- 23:04Trin: And so it sort of felt like maybe going to the other end of supporting people through transition with death and grief- Mm … all that too.
- 23:13Trin: So who knows?
- 23:15Trin: Fantastic.
- 23:15Trin: I'm just here to say yes to what presents and opportunities that come by, yeah.
- 23:20Tracy: Oh, you answered my next question, 'cause I was gonna ask you what, what brought the shift on.
- 23:24Tracy: But- Yeah … it's, um, you've just answered that.
- 23:26Trin: Yeah.
- 23:26Trin: Mm-hmm.
- 23:26Trin: Yes, so it's good to be here for my family, and I've had such a yearning to be here for such a long time.
- 23:34Trin: And it's really nice to not have that yearning in my body anymore, sort of replaced by a little bit of guilt that I've taken my husband and son away from that si- you know, his side of the family.
- 23:45Trin: That, that's hard too.
- 23:47Trin: You know, it's like wanting this time for, for us down here, but knowing that that's hard for them, so yeah.
- 23:54Trin: There's always the flip side to every
- 23:56Tracy: Sharing the load- Yeah … doesn't it?
- 23:57Trin: Yeah.
- 23:57Tracy: You know, you've had that time up there with, um, with his family and, and the community and, and your boy now gets to have this side of the family as well.
- 24:04Tracy: Yeah.
- 24:04Trin: And I think it's a really good time for him.
- 24:06Trin: He's… He'll be 12 next month, and I just think this is… it's… there's so much nature here, and the ocean, and snorkeling and, you know, bushwalking.
- 24:17Trin: It's, um, a very different way of living down here, and he's got his cousins, and out on the boat and, you know, just all the fun things.
- 24:25Trin: So I think it's a beautiful time to- Great … to go into that teenage time of being more connected to nature instead of- Yeah … screens and things like that.
- 24:34Tracy: Yeah.
- 24:35Tracy: For sure.
- 24:36Trin: Yeah.
- 24:36Tracy: I know that you've had, um, the two teachers that you've mentioned already.
- 24:39Tracy: Have there been other teachers in your life that, in constellations or… or that have… or maybe not in constellations, that have made a big impact on you?
- 24:46Trin: Well, Bill Mannell, he came over.
- 24:48Trin: I went and did the international intensive in Sydney, gosh, must be 13 years ago.
- 24:55Trin: And I did a piece of work with him around relationship and with, with men, and that was just hu- It just shifted, like, such a lot in… and it was so beautifully done.
- 25:06Trin: And I, I just love that simplicity of how simple a piece of work can be.
- 25:10Tracy: Mm.
- 25:10Trin: And, uh, really embodied that from that experience, and that really helped me stand by, you know, my husband, who that relation had just started when I did that piece of work, and I think it just opened space to what it is today.
- 25:26Trin: Read a lot of books, and, uh, yeah, just… I guess, yeah, Marguerite is my mentor through and through, and just love sitting with her so much.
- 25:39Trin: I'm actually flying up on Friday to go and support her in one of her trainings back up in Maleny, so-
- 25:45Tracy: Fabulous… Trin: that'll be nice to be back And outside of that, I think my parents.
- 25:52Tracy: It's really interesting what we take, you know, from them.
- 25:55Tracy: But thinking of my dad, it's like the lessons of- snorkeling and hunting, uh, you know, for seafood and, um, growing vegetables and his beautiful orchard, and in a way not conforming to society.
- 26:10Tracy: He's, he's always done things his own way, and I, I really do think I'm a lot like him in that way.
- 26:15Tracy: Yeah.
- 26:16Trin: And then my mom for her beautiful, caring nature and heart that looks after everyone and is aware of so much more than her, and fee- you know, feeding and nourishing, and my dad, too.
- 26:29Trin: So I'm a cook in my background as well as cooking and, um, you know, cooking at retreats and the academy in Maleny.
- 26:37Trin: And, yeah, I really have taken on those beautiful lessons of nourishing people with beautiful food and flavors from Mom and Dad, and so many beautiful times in the kitchen with Dad cooking and- Yeah.
- 26:49Trin: It's great
- 26:49Tracy: We haven't met in person, but I can feel that emanate through you.
- 26:51Tracy: Yeah.
- 26:52Tracy: And is that you've got that nourishing energy, you've got such a beautiful, calm presence about yourself, and just… I can feel like I know you, but I, but we haven't actually met in person, so-
- 26:59Trin: Yeah… Tracy: um.
- 27:01Trin: I look forward to giving you a hug in
- 27:03Tracy: person.
- 27:03Tracy: Me too, yeah.
- 27:04Tracy: Yeah.
- 27:05Tracy: Yeah.
- 27:05Tracy: Me too.
- 27:06Tracy: Yeah.
- 27:06Trin: Yeah.
- 27:07Tracy: But it really, it really emanates through, and I think when we can, um, you know, even acknowledging the little, the, the things sometimes we forget.
- 27:14Tracy: I'm just thinking of the general popu- and probably part of my own experience that for the… I've experienced quite a lot of trauma and, and sometimes it's really easy to f- just focus on that and forget about the, the nuggets, the w- the beautiful wisdom and the, and those special moments that you experience, right?
- 27:27Trin: Yeah.
- 27:27Tracy: And the gifts that you received.
- 27:29Trin: Yeah.
- 27:30Tracy: I mean, some of those other things we… They were gifts as well, but they, they weren't wrapped up in what we would've thought were a gift at the time.
- 27:35Trin: Yeah, yeah.
- 27:36Tracy: But, um, yeah.
- 27:37Tracy: Just being able to see those other people in our lives and as the amazing teachers that they have been for us.
- 27:43Trin: Yeah.
- 27:43Trin: Very important to have both sides, and yeah, just so grateful to have found family constellation to help support heal those- Mm … you know, layers, and it continues.
- 27:54Trin: It hasn't f- it will never finish, I'm sure.
- 27:57Trin: It's just-
- 27:57Tracy: Yes, I do have a little giggle-… it'll keep going … when, when someone says, "Oh, I've done that constellation.
- 28:00Tracy: I've fixed my mother now." Um- … I think I'm all good then.
- 28:03Trin: Yeah.
- 28:04Trin: Till next time.
- 28:05Tracy: And I know that some people, not everyone has the multiple layers that some of us have, and it is a lot easier.
- 28:09Tracy: And, and not in a judgment, it's just an observation that, you know, it would be lovely if it was that easy.
- 28:14Trin: Mm.
- 28:15Tracy: But that's part of the growth, right?
- 28:16Trin: Yes.
- 28:17Tracy: Mm.
- 28:17Trin: Yes.
- 28:18Trin: Absolutely.
- 28:19Tracy: Are you quite a creative person?
- 28:20Trin: Yes.
- 28:21Tracy: Do you use, um, that in your work at all?
- 28:24Trin: Like do you- Sometimes I'll use art, so get… You know, bring in the art therapy side of things- Yeah … depending on the group.
- 28:30Trin: Um-
- 28:30Tracy: Me too.
- 28:31Trin: Yeah.
- 28:32Trin: And love na- you know, nature constellation, getting out in nature is just so beautiful.
- 28:38Trin: Um, even using, you know, nature, like in the sense of- Mm … getting rocks or feathers or leaves to create, um, a constellation is a, a really beautiful way.
- 28:49Trin: My friend and I, she's been training in equine therapy, so I, I've had such an amazing time with her learning.
- 28:59Trin: Um- Ooh … I had quite a bit of trauma around horses from my younger years of getting thrown off and or didn't have- teachers or at all when it came to riding or anything, and didn't have good experience.
- 29:11Trin: And obviously I was always nervous, so those beautiful animals could feel all of the things.
- 29:16Trin: And, uh, yeah, I couldn't get in a paddock, let alone touch a horse for, for a long time.
- 29:20Trin: But we've been friends for ages, and she just has supported me to now just be in there, and now we're doing, do work together when, when we're up north.
- 29:29Trin: So yeah, that's another different sort of creative way of, you know, healing and connecting and beautiful.
- 29:36Tracy: Yeah.
- 29:37Tracy: They are such intuitive creatures, aren't they?
- 29:39Tracy: They are.
- 29:39Tracy: Their amazing heart.
- 29:40Trin: Yeah.
- 29:41Tracy: Feel everything.
- 29:41Trin: Yes.
- 29:42Trin: Those hearts are next level.
- 29:44Tracy: And like a dog as well, I think.
- 29:45Trin: Yeah.
- 29:46Tracy: You know?
- 29:47Tracy: They're- Yeah.
- 29:47Tracy: Cats are pretty good.
- 29:48Trin: Yeah.
- 29:49Tracy: But they're also so- They're
- 29:50Trin: different.
- 29:50Trin: Different messages- They're v- … come through from the cats, don't they, in a
- 29:53Tracy: way?
- 29:53Trin: Yeah.
- 29:53Trin: Yeah.
- 29:54Tracy: Yeah, definitely.
- 29:55Tracy: And when you're doing art, is it, you said you do a little bit of art therapy.
- 29:58Tracy: How, how would you do that with someone?
- 30:00Trin: Quite often it's just crayons and pieces of paper.
- 30:02Trin: Sometimes it's, yeah, using all of those natural products to really create the picture, that subconscious- Mm … picture out on a board and, um, using crystals and, and feathers and yeah, all of the different elements.
- 30:17Tracy: And- Sounds like me.
- 30:19Trin: And other times, yeah, that's really it, I guess, in the work.
- 30:23Trin: But then, or sometimes clay or, um, you know, Plasticine or- You know, that can also be a great way of doing it.
- 30:31Trin: But yeah, and then for me, I love to paint and ceramics and yeah, drawing.
- 30:38Trin: Yeah.
- 30:38Tracy: Oh, lovely.
- 30:39Tracy: Yeah.
- 30:39Tracy: It's great when we can incorporate some other things into the field, right?
- 30:42Trin: Yeah.
- 30:43Tracy: Um, and it just, um, weaves another pathway, I think- Yeah … as we're creating.
- 30:49Trin: Yeah.
- 30:49Tracy: Yeah.
- 30:50Trin: Definitely.
- 30:51Trin: And yeah, it sort of gets that somatic energy, especially if it, you know, the anger or anything like that, that you can really get out of the body-
- 30:59Tracy: Mm
- 30:59Trin: onto a piece of paper.
- 31:00Tracy: Is there a subject that you haven't really been working with, but you're sort of thinking, "I wouldn't mind exploring that." Like, for me, I've already… I, I'm quite keen to explore some organizational and some business stuff.
- 31:10Trin: Yeah.
- 31:10Tracy: I haven't done it yet, not fully.
- 31:11Tracy: I've done a little bits and pieces, but-
- 31:13Trin: Yeah
- 31:13Tracy: yeah.
- 31:14Trin: Um, well, interestingly, I have been doing quite, well, quite a bit of business organizational stuff.
- 31:21Trin: It's interesting how much it can overlap though, I've found, where the personal and business stuff within working with business people.
- 31:29Trin: So I was working with business coaches up in Queensland and, um, supporting all of these amazing women in business and bringing them, and doing workshops at the retreats and things like that.
- 31:39Trin: So, it's like they bring the business issue, but then the personal also comes into it, so.
- 31:46Tracy: So does that kind of like morph into the
- 31:48Trin: personal
- 31:48Tracy: stuff?
- 31:48Tracy: Yeah, it
- 31:48Trin: morphs.
- 31:48Trin: Yeah, it's interesting how quite often, I don't know if it's just 'cause that's how I work, but quite often it'll be like, "Well, what's underlying that?" You know?
- 31:57Trin: The, the connection to what's happening in your business.
- 32:00Trin: And it's like, "Oh."
- 32:00Tracy: Can you give me an example without obviously crossing anyone's confidentiality?
- 32:04Tracy: Yeah.
- 32:04Tracy: Is there a…
- 32:05Trin: Oh, gosh.
- 32:06Trin: Trying to think.
- 32:07Trin: You know how it is sometimes when you do- Work.
- 32:10Trin: Well, I, it is for me.
- 32:11Trin: I'll do a piece of work and then I can't remember- Right what happened.
- 32:14Trin: That's what's
- 32:15Tracy: happening.
- 32:16Tracy: Someone, someone asked you in the break, "What was that th- what was that line that you said to me?
- 32:18Tracy: You said blah, blah, blah." I go, "Dunno."
- 32:20Trin: Yeah.
- 32:21Trin: Did I say
- 32:22Tracy: that?
- 32:22Tracy: It was, it was clever of me, wasn't it?
- 32:23Trin: Yes.
- 32:24Trin: Well, that's what happens for me a lot, so yeah.
- 32:27Trin: Yeah.
- 32:27Trin: I t- I very much leave it there.
- 32:29Tracy: No, that's cool.
- 32:30Tracy: That's cool.
- 32:30Trin: It's hard to recall because I'm like, I don't know who was in that moment.
- 32:34Tracy: I remember doing one with Caroline Ward, and this was a practice one, you know, so it wasn't … We were learning the steps, and it was about, um, you and your business and where you are now, but where you've come from.
- 32:44Tracy: Yeah.
- 32:44Tracy: Like the first job you ever had.
- 32:45Tracy: Might have been babysitting.
- 32:46Tracy: You might have been the paper, had a paper round or been the milk girl or … which is, uh, which I was.
- 32:52Tracy: And so going through all of the steps and then recognizing all that comes with it.
- 32:55Tracy: And it was like a lineage thing, but it was a, a lineage of my progression through my evolution-
- 33:00Trin: Yeah
- 33:00Tracy: into where I am now in my business.
- 33:02Tracy: Wow.
- 33:02Tracy: It's fascinating.
- 33:03Trin: That is so fascinating.
- 33:04Trin: That would be very interesting to do for me, that piece of work.
- 33:07Trin: I've had lots of different hats through the years, so.
- 33:10Tracy: Yeah.
- 33:11Trin: Really interesting.
- 33:12Tracy: Yeah.
- 33:12Tracy: Yeah, it's a good piece of work.
- 33:14Tracy: So if you could say to your, uh, to your younger self, what would be a piece of advice you'd give your younger self?
- 33:19Trin: To trust that you will gain so much confidence that you can be seen and heard, and really step into any dream that you, any dream or any desire that, that you can think of.
- 33:39Trin: If you're brave enough, you can just step in and create it.
- 33:43Trin: Seems to get quicker as you get older to be able to do those things that you, you, you wish in for your life in, in positive ways, you know?
- 33:52Trin: Yeah.
- 33:52Trin: Yeah, I did a dream board, um, at the start of the year, and it had living on the Sapphire Coast, and three months later-
- 34:00Tracy: Yeah, 'cause it came around really quickly, didn't it?
- 34:01Tracy: It did.
- 34:02Tracy: 'Cause you were coming to, you were coming to New Zealand.
- 34:03Trin: Yes.
- 34:04Tracy: Um, and then suddenly your house sold all of a sudden.
- 34:07Tracy: Yeah.
- 34:07Tracy: And… Trin: Like, the … We put it on the Wow.
- 34:14Trin: Had 30-day contract, and snap.
- 34:17Trin: That's- So yeah, and it was- Just a combination of my dad not being well.
- 34:22Trin: Financially, things, I could see what was on the horizon e- economically, and did the numbers and I'm like,"We're just not having the life that we deserve to have with my husband working nearly 60, 70 hours a week-
- 34:37Tracy: Mm
- 34:37Trin: to really support us." And, um, he'd been in that job for 33 years and-
- 34:42Tracy: Wow… Trin: had never really had a good break.
- 34:45Tracy: And I was like, "Not getting any younger.
- 34:45Tracy: Let's go and live life now and, uh, be with family when they need us and-" So, so what does he do differently now?
- 34:53Tracy: What sort of job does he have now?
- 34:54Trin: At the moment we've, he's basically on long service leave just enjoying life and- Nice settling into this new, new world down here.
- 35:02Trin: And the intention is for him to be carer for my dad so that I can do my work and support him- Yep … and the family.
- 35:10Trin: And, uh, we're living on my step-mom's property here, down.
- 35:15Trin: So there's not as many bills, there's more support, and yeah, we're right near the ocean, which we both lo- we all love and, yeah.
- 35:22Trin: It's, it's just a really different life'cause we were inland before and a bit isolated, and we loved our neighbors and our property and everything, but- It's just nice to be out of debt.
- 35:31Tracy: Mm. Yeah.
- 35:32Tracy: M- well, there you go.
- 35:32Tracy: Let breath out, eh?
- 35:34Tracy: You don't realize how much we hold onto.
- 35:35Trin: Yeah.

- 35:36Trin: And keep it simple.
- 35:37Trin: We've just really downsized and simplified life and not, uh, trying to keep up with-
- 35:43Tracy: I think that's- … keeping up.
- 35:44Tracy: That, that sometimes that, uh, sometimes people feel like they have to, "I have to have this- Mm … to then to have that, and then to have that." And then they find themselves drowning in a space that's not even fulfilling them- Yeah fulfilling their heart.
- 35:55Tracy: So, so big ups to you guys for, you know, taking that step and following- Yeah … your hearts.
- 36:00Trin: Yeah.
- 36:00Trin: It was a b- it's big.
- 36:01Trin: It's huge.
- 36:02Trin: Um, but my heart feels a lot more settled and- Mm … connected and not so lonely.
- 36:07Trin: There was a lot of loneliness for me out there where w- we were.
- 36:10Trin: It was good when I could come back into connection, but we were further out, out in the sticks a bit more and it was, yeah, very isolating.
- 36:17Tracy: Mm. Well, I think that if someone wants to get i- in touch with you-
- 36:20Trin: Mm-hmm… Tracy: how do they find you?
