- 0:02Speaker 1: Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast, your home for
- 0:06Speaker 1: deer hunting news, stories and strategies, and now your host,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Mark Kenyon. Welcome to the Wired to Hunt podcast. I'm
- 0:17Speaker 1: your host Mark Kenyan in this episode number two hundred
- 0:20Speaker 1: and eighty and today in the show, Dan and I
- 0:22Speaker 1: are talking about the power of habits and other life
- 0:26Speaker 1: structuring processes that can help you better prepare for and
- 0:29Speaker 1: enjoy your next hunting season. All right, welcome to the
- 0:35Speaker 1: Wired to Hunt podcast, brought to you by Onyx and
- 0:38Speaker 1: today joined by my right hand man, Dan Johnson. And
- 0:44Speaker 1: I was gonna try to fit some kind of joke
- 0:46Speaker 1: in there when I when I thought I'm gonna say
- 0:49Speaker 1: I usually write up to some very basic notes, and
- 0:51Speaker 1: like those are the words just like came out like
- 0:53Speaker 1: right hand man, And I thought there's gotta be a
- 0:55Speaker 1: finger joke in there somewhere. It's not I'm not a
- 0:58Speaker 1: full right hand like that. I was thinking of my hand,
- 1:03Speaker 1: like I couldn't remember if your nub is on your
- 1:05Speaker 1: right hand to your left hand, which is it. It's
- 1:08Speaker 1: on the right hand, it is the right hand, Okay,
- 1:10Speaker 1: So so that would have played very well into my
- 1:13Speaker 1: wording there. Well, well, next time, buddy, next time. If
- 1:17Speaker 1: you're gonna be a stand up comedian, you've got to
- 1:19Speaker 1: practice your routine before you actually go on here with it.
- 1:22Speaker 1: I know. I think what we did here is this
- 1:23Speaker 1: more like a choose your own adventure. So everyone everyone
- 1:27Speaker 1: can now insert your own missing one finger joke for
- 1:31Speaker 1: Dan right now, think of whatever kind of thing you'd
- 1:33Speaker 1: like to throw out there at them, and say that
- 1:34Speaker 1: to yourself. Chuckle, and we're gonna pause for a moment
- 1:38Speaker 1: if you enjoy that laugh And continuing on the hunting
- 1:43Speaker 1: industries punching bag, Dan Johnson exactly. So I'm here with Dan,
- 1:49Speaker 1: and Um, what I want to talk about today is
- 1:51Speaker 1: a little different than usual. Um, but it's something that
- 1:55Speaker 1: I think is really interesting, and this is habits. I
- 1:59Speaker 1: want to talk about habits and systems and processes. And
- 2:04Speaker 1: what I mean by that is all the stuff that
- 2:07Speaker 1: we do throughout our day or throughout a hunting season
- 2:10Speaker 1: or throughout a hunt. All these things that we kind
- 2:12Speaker 1: of subconsciously do, or these processes that we develop and
- 2:16Speaker 1: then just start doing it all the time without really
- 2:17Speaker 1: thinking about it. Um. I spend a lot of time
- 2:21Speaker 1: reading about or listening to podcasts or watching videos from
- 2:25Speaker 1: different folks that kind of, UM, like study excellence. I'm
- 2:28Speaker 1: really intrigued by just like studying people that are high
- 2:31Speaker 1: performers and like how they do it. So whether that
- 2:33Speaker 1: be CEOs or athletes or writers or scientists. UM, it's
- 2:41Speaker 1: really interesting to me to try to study these high
- 2:44Speaker 1: performers and then pull out, like, what are the things
- 2:46Speaker 1: that these people do that can be applied to to
- 2:49Speaker 1: my daily life or to what I do as a hunter. UM.
- 2:52Speaker 1: And I feel like that's kind of what we try
- 2:53Speaker 1: to do with this podcast in general, as we talked
- 2:55Speaker 1: to all these really high performing hunters and try to
- 2:57Speaker 1: pull out little lessons from them, a little patterns. UM.
- 3:01Speaker 1: But I think there's things that we can take from
- 3:03Speaker 1: folks outside of the hunting world and pull that into
- 3:06Speaker 1: the hunting world sometimes to help us. UM. So kind
- 3:09Speaker 1: of on my own, I I do this and I
- 3:11Speaker 1: look at folks and I think about how that could
- 3:13Speaker 1: be applied to hunting. But we've never really talked about
- 3:15Speaker 1: it UM on the podcast, So I thought we maybe
- 3:18Speaker 1: today could do that kind of you know, I've been,
- 3:22Speaker 1: like I said, reading all sorts of stuff recently about
- 3:24Speaker 1: the power of habits. So how creating these habits or
- 3:28Speaker 1: changing bad habits can help you, and so I thought
- 3:31Speaker 1: we could talk a little bit about what that means,
- 3:33Speaker 1: how that might apply to what we do as hunters, um,
- 3:36Speaker 1: and then walk through some of the things that you
- 3:37Speaker 1: and I do, Dan, talk through some of our habits,
- 3:40Speaker 1: talk through some of our processes, talk about different things
- 3:43Speaker 1: we do throughout the year that maybe help or hurt
- 3:45Speaker 1: us in our hunting goals and whatnot. So that's the
- 3:49Speaker 1: high level plan. Um. Before that, though, I thought we
- 3:53Speaker 1: should at least take a little time on the front
- 3:54Speaker 1: end since you are here Dan to get our our
- 3:57Speaker 1: pregame show, and you're you're always game for that, right,
- 4:01Speaker 1: I guess. Um. So, first off, we've got to give
- 4:04Speaker 1: a quick shout out to the moms. Right yesterday the
- 4:07Speaker 1: day before today when we're recording with Mother's Day. Uh,
- 4:10Speaker 1: big shout out to all the moms out there. Now,
- 4:13Speaker 1: having a child on my own and seeing everything that
- 4:16Speaker 1: my wife does, I am even more grateful than I
- 4:19Speaker 1: ever have been and have just a new appreciation for
- 4:22Speaker 1: all the moms out there. So big big thanks, right, um, Right,
- 4:26Speaker 1: and Dan, did you guys have a good Mother's Day? Yeah? Man,
- 4:29Speaker 1: we uh you know, we went out for breakfast to
- 4:32Speaker 1: like a really good breakfast joint. Uh. Then we ended
- 4:36Speaker 1: up going over my buddy Ben Harshein's house later that
- 4:38Speaker 1: day and um having this little pseudo Mother's Day celebration
- 4:43Speaker 1: and let the kids run around and you know that
- 4:47Speaker 1: was it, man, just a low key you know, spent
- 4:49Speaker 1: some time outside at a park and uh we went
- 4:52Speaker 1: to this uh nature observator. Well it's not necessarily observatory.
- 4:57Speaker 1: They call it a raptor center, where they of all
- 5:00Speaker 1: these um like owls and different birds of prey that
- 5:04Speaker 1: have been injured, whether they've been hit by a car,
- 5:07Speaker 1: attacked by a dog, or they've gotten in fights and
- 5:09Speaker 1: broke their wings. They bring them to the center, they
- 5:12Speaker 1: rehab them and then they try to let them go,
- 5:15Speaker 1: or they just keep them there and feed them. You know,
- 5:17Speaker 1: there's check this out. Here's a fact for you. The
- 5:20Speaker 1: one eagle in captivity, bald eagle in captivity there is
- 5:24Speaker 1: thirty four years old. I didn't even know bald eagles
- 5:28Speaker 1: could live that long. Yeah, that's impressive. So he did that,
- 5:32Speaker 1: and it was just a fun day. That's awesome. Sounds
- 5:34Speaker 1: that sounds really good. Did you guys have a nice weather. Uh,
- 5:37Speaker 1: you know, just like everywhere else in the Midwest. Man,
- 5:40Speaker 1: it's been below It was like the high of high
- 5:43Speaker 1: of fifty yesterday, so and the and the clouds were out,
- 5:47Speaker 1: so it's not like it was gorgeous like today. It's
- 5:52Speaker 1: gorgeous out it's gonna be like a high sixty five,
- 5:54Speaker 1: and but yesterday was a little cool. Yeah. I was
- 5:57Speaker 1: wondering if you guys had the nice the nice weather, yester,
- 6:00Speaker 1: because I see in our forecast it's gonna hit us
- 6:02Speaker 1: probably tomorrow. It still allows you here, Um, but gosh,
- 6:06Speaker 1: I really I hope that spring arrives. It seems like
- 6:09Speaker 1: the way things are going, it was almost like winter, winter, winter,
- 6:12Speaker 1: and now it's been like crappy spring and will probably
- 6:15Speaker 1: jump right to summer here, we're not gonna have like
- 6:16Speaker 1: a nice spring. Raining and raining and raining. It's like crazy.
- 6:22Speaker 1: So other than that, man, we just did uh, me
- 6:25Speaker 1: and the wife, my dad, we had t ball on Saturday, right,
- 6:28Speaker 1: so both kids had t ball games, did that and
- 6:31Speaker 1: my dad came down to watch that game. And then
- 6:36Speaker 1: after the game was over he stuck around and watched
- 6:38Speaker 1: the kids for about an hour and a half two
- 6:40Speaker 1: hours and me and the wife. We went out mushroom instam. Yeah,
- 6:46Speaker 1: we found we got We've had one meal of them
- 6:50Speaker 1: so far, and we got enough for about probably two
- 6:52Speaker 1: more meals or a big meal. And uh, I don't know.
- 6:56Speaker 1: I love morals. And I've even expanded my mushroom game
- 7:00Speaker 1: this year into a another uh species called a pheasant back.
- 7:08Speaker 1: And it's not too bad, I must say. I I
- 7:11Speaker 1: I experimented with a couple of them, and uh, they
- 7:15Speaker 1: turned out horrible. But then I found a way to
- 7:18Speaker 1: make them that wasn't so horrible. And they're actually pretty
- 7:22Speaker 1: flavorful if you do it right. That's pretty cool. Yeah.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Every year I tell my stuff that I want to
- 7:27Speaker 1: get out and try to do that, and I never
- 7:29Speaker 1: end up getting into the schedule. But but tentatively, I
- 7:32Speaker 1: actually I am planning and doing some this week. So
- 7:35Speaker 1: do you have one mushroom hunting tip you can share
- 7:38Speaker 1: your best side. It's just like looking for sheds, but
- 7:42Speaker 1: much smaller, you know what I mean. It's it's not
- 7:44Speaker 1: like because we found them in your typical uh typical locations,
- 7:50Speaker 1: like really old decayed trees down you know, as the
- 7:54Speaker 1: water runs down, that nutrient runs, nutrients runs down off
- 7:57Speaker 1: that really old decayed tree, good moisture, really good fertil fertilization,
- 8:03Speaker 1: you know, or fertilizer in the ground. Found him there,
- 8:06Speaker 1: But then we also found him like one of them's
- 8:09Speaker 1: popped up in the middle of nowhere, you know, where
- 8:11Speaker 1: you wouldn't think one would find. So we found a
- 8:13Speaker 1: couple there as well. And uh so it wasn't like there,
- 8:17Speaker 1: it's just like shed hunting. Dude, put your head down
- 8:20Speaker 1: and walk real slow in the woods. Yeah, well, I'm
- 8:24Speaker 1: gonna try to kill a turkey this week and then
- 8:25Speaker 1: if I cant to that, and then I'll start walking
- 8:27Speaker 1: slowly with my head down and uh hopefully find some mushrooms.
- 8:31Speaker 1: That's my that's my game plan. Yeah, well, if you
- 8:33Speaker 1: get the opportunity. And I don't know what it is,
- 8:35Speaker 1: maybe it's nostalgia, but if I could, if I could
- 8:39Speaker 1: have like a last supper. Let's say I get convicted
- 8:43Speaker 1: of you know, some double homicide, right whatever, and I
- 8:47Speaker 1: go to I go to jail and I'm gonna be
- 8:50Speaker 1: put on death row. I think my last meal would
- 8:53Speaker 1: be pan fish, like deep fried panfish and Morrell mushrooms
- 8:59Speaker 1: and like a potato salad. I mean that's like, that's
- 9:02Speaker 1: like my favorite. Man, that's pretty good. That's a pretty
- 9:04Speaker 1: good meal. I like that I would do. If I
- 9:07Speaker 1: was gonna go with fish, it would have to be
- 9:09Speaker 1: a deep fried wally fly with with sliced thin potatoes
- 9:15Speaker 1: and onions that are thrown in the fryer. To that right,
- 9:18Speaker 1: there would be my nostalgia meal. You got me rethinking
- 9:22Speaker 1: my last supper. Dude, Yeah, that's getting me hungry. So
- 9:27Speaker 1: what's doing I had? I had I made like a
- 9:29Speaker 1: fruit smoothie yesterday and like had enough for two servings,
- 9:33Speaker 1: so I saved some for this morning and drank it
- 9:36Speaker 1: this morning and like fermented or something, So it was
- 9:39Speaker 1: not good this morning, but I still drank it. And
- 9:42Speaker 1: so I'm just working off a really horrible breakfast. And
- 9:46Speaker 1: this just makes you want to go fry some fish
- 9:47Speaker 1: or cook up a steak or something that I know
- 9:50Speaker 1: I speaking of cooking up steaks. Um. I have a
- 9:55Speaker 1: little bit of a hunting season update that we haven't
- 9:58Speaker 1: got to talk about yet as far as what I'm
- 10:00Speaker 1: doing this year. Um, last time we talked, I think
- 10:03Speaker 1: was just after my big Montana trip, right that right,
- 10:06Speaker 1: maybe a couple two or three, probably three weeks ago.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Um So, I did that whole Montana trip, found a
- 10:11Speaker 1: bunch of sheds, scouted out five different properties because you know,
- 10:15Speaker 1: definitely gonn hunt Montana. UM and then I found out
- 10:19Speaker 1: I didn't draw a tag in Montana, which I didn't
- 10:25Speaker 1: even know was a thing. Like the last three years
- 10:27Speaker 1: I drew every year. It seemed like what I heard
- 10:31Speaker 1: in past years is pretty much a guaranteed draw. Um.
- 10:34Speaker 1: But apparently I've been talking about Montana too much or something.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Um we didn't talk about this, do we. I don't
- 10:41Speaker 1: think that we did know um So. So, yeah, Montana
- 10:47Speaker 1: not happen. So So after that, I was like, Okay,
- 10:51Speaker 1: what am I gonna do? Um? I still want to
- 10:53Speaker 1: do that first week of September trip that I've really
- 10:55Speaker 1: come to enjoy these last few years. Um So pondered
- 11:00Speaker 1: bunch of different ideas, thought about trying to hunt, you know, ah,
- 11:04Speaker 1: maybe Wyoming, maybe Nebraska again. Um ended up settling though
- 11:09Speaker 1: on North Dakota because it's the one place that I
- 11:12Speaker 1: have scouted a bunch already. I've haunded it once before,
- 11:16Speaker 1: further hunter there before, and it's it's just a really
- 11:18Speaker 1: really cool area. But I haven't figured it out yet,
- 11:20Speaker 1: and there's like that you know, that feeling where you
- 11:23Speaker 1: go try something and you just get humbled and you
- 11:26Speaker 1: have that bitter taste in your mouth and you want
- 11:28Speaker 1: to figure it out, Like I want to get it
- 11:30Speaker 1: right eventually. I feel like I need to before I
- 11:33Speaker 1: go tramping off somewhere else. I need to figure this
- 11:35Speaker 1: spot out and and check that off my list or
- 11:38Speaker 1: conquer that that challenge. So that's what I gonna do.
- 11:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna do a North Dakota early season. Not now, well, buddy,
- 11:46Speaker 1: let me throw a little salt out there for you.
- 11:49Speaker 1: I don't know what that that's the right term, but
- 11:51Speaker 1: let me throw another I ever heard this? I don't know.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I don't know. Maybe I just throw salt out there,
- 11:57Speaker 1: salt on the sidewalk. Uh we at an opening on
- 12:02Speaker 1: our Elk hunt second week of uh September. If you're interested,
- 12:10Speaker 1: I would love to do it. But were the counter
- 12:12Speaker 1: guaranteed tag by Colorado? Right Colorado? Yeah? Good encounters last year,
- 12:18Speaker 1: and I I just can't do more than at least
- 12:24Speaker 1: as as things stand. Speaking to Mother's Day, what I
- 12:27Speaker 1: have is is like a seven day window I can
- 12:30Speaker 1: get away with each each month, I just don't think
- 12:34Speaker 1: I could do both again this year. But let me
- 12:36Speaker 1: let me stew maybe there's someone I could finangle something. Um,
- 12:40Speaker 1: are you driving? You're driving right? Well? Uh so, my
- 12:44Speaker 1: buddy Ryan, he's going out. He's gonna he's doing two
- 12:46Speaker 1: weeks out there, So he's gonna be like up in
- 12:49Speaker 1: the mountains for two weeks. And so then I'm meeting
- 12:53Speaker 1: him the second week out there, and um uh and
- 12:57Speaker 1: then so I'm flying out. He's gonna picked me up
- 13:00Speaker 1: and then we're driving back. Cool. That's man, Ryan's going
- 13:05Speaker 1: balls deep two weeks. Yeah, yeah, good for him. I'm
- 13:08Speaker 1: just like, dude, you know what you're doing, you know,
- 13:10Speaker 1: because you know, you know, not questioning his manhood per se,
- 13:14Speaker 1: but just like, man, two weeks out in the mountains
- 13:18Speaker 1: is no no joke. Man, That's that's pretty cool. He'll
- 13:24Speaker 1: spend that amount of time definitely will help reset the
- 13:27Speaker 1: reset the clock for you after a whole lot of
- 13:30Speaker 1: long days in the office and stuff. So I imagine
- 13:32Speaker 1: that'll I'll be leaving him feeling good. Man. I'm excited
- 13:36Speaker 1: about getting just out west. In general, we're taking off
- 13:38Speaker 1: at the beginning of June. I think, and um, and
- 13:41Speaker 1: that will be that will be exciting. So I understand that.
- 13:45Speaker 1: And then let's see other than Okay, so you're doing
- 13:49Speaker 1: your mule or you're doing your white tail hunt in
- 13:51Speaker 1: North Dakota now, and you know, I am going doing
- 13:56Speaker 1: my elk hunt second week in September, and then I'm
- 13:58Speaker 1: taking a mule deer hunt be the first or second
- 14:00Speaker 1: week in October to South Dakota. So that's happening for sure,
- 14:04Speaker 1: all right, Yeah, yeah, I mean I'm I'm doing some research,
- 14:09Speaker 1: you know, making some connections, getting a lot of great intel. Um.
- 14:15Speaker 1: You know, I got lucky. I ran into a guy
- 14:17Speaker 1: who I used to live there in where in the area,
- 14:21Speaker 1: but he since moved away and he doesn't want to
- 14:25Speaker 1: hunt mule there anymore in that area, so he's like
- 14:29Speaker 1: hooking me up with some knowledge, and uh, that's awesome, right,
- 14:34Speaker 1: That's gonna put you in a good position to get started. Yeah,
- 14:38Speaker 1: at least at least knowing that there's mule deer in
- 14:41Speaker 1: an area or any game like whenever, whenever you and
- 14:44Speaker 1: this we can probably transition at some point to this.
- 14:47Speaker 1: But knowing that there's animals whenever you take these big
- 14:51Speaker 1: out of state hunts, right, knowing that there's animals in
- 14:53Speaker 1: the area is almost like half the battle. It's that
- 14:56Speaker 1: confidence that the confidence booster. If if you at least
- 15:00Speaker 1: know that piece of the puzzles in place, then you
- 15:02Speaker 1: can worry about everything else. But but agree, if you
- 15:05Speaker 1: just don't even know if there's animals there, then you
- 15:07Speaker 1: find yourself second guessing everything, right, everything, Yeah, it's it's
- 15:11Speaker 1: you just almost need that initial foundation. Once you have that,
- 15:14Speaker 1: then you can start going down the list of Okay,
- 15:16Speaker 1: are they here here? Or should I be approaching it
- 15:18Speaker 1: this way or that way? But if you're still like
- 15:21Speaker 1: waffling on, man, are we even in the right general
- 15:24Speaker 1: area at all? Then I you know, it's kind of
- 15:26Speaker 1: like our ELKHN a handful of years ago, like are
- 15:29Speaker 1: they anywhere around here? We weren't here anything we're seeing
- 15:31Speaker 1: a like should we completely pick up shop and go
- 15:34Speaker 1: somewhere totally different? Um? That can be tough. So that's
- 15:39Speaker 1: uh again, So so so Colorado, ELK, South Dakota Meal there,
- 15:44Speaker 1: Iowa white Tales for you. I'm going to do the north,
- 15:47Speaker 1: go to white tail hunt, and then I tentatively am
- 15:51Speaker 1: gonna go down for a short trip, just a couple
- 15:53Speaker 1: of days down to Texas, and um, there is a
- 15:58Speaker 1: guy kind of interesting. I didn't think about this before
- 16:01Speaker 1: mentioning this, but kind of one of these people who
- 16:04Speaker 1: studies other like high performers UM, an author and writer
- 16:08Speaker 1: that I that I really that I really like, tentatively
- 16:11Speaker 1: planning on taking him out for his first deer hunt.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I ever got in touch with this guy, exchanged a
- 16:15Speaker 1: couple of notes, and he has some interest in trying
- 16:17Speaker 1: to learn about hunting and kind of getting back to
- 16:20Speaker 1: the land. UM. So I said, hey, you know you
- 16:22Speaker 1: have any interest in trying hunting, and he was interested.
- 16:25Speaker 1: So I think we're gonna try to get out for
- 16:27Speaker 1: a short hunt together. That'll be really cool thing. He
- 16:29Speaker 1: lives down in Texas, UM, so that will be a
- 16:33Speaker 1: quick one. And then I'm gonna try to do that
- 16:35Speaker 1: boundary waters hunt in Minnesota that I've had a pass
- 16:39Speaker 1: on last year, So I'm gonna do that. And then
- 16:43Speaker 1: the new thing that this is another thing we haven't
- 16:45Speaker 1: talked about dan um, but I am tentatively thinking about
- 16:50Speaker 1: now and maybe I mentioned this, Um, I'm gonna try
- 16:53Speaker 1: to do the tracking down a deer hunt in the snow,
- 16:58Speaker 1: so go out to like the ad around the mountains
- 17:00Speaker 1: out in New York or out to Maine and go
- 17:04Speaker 1: hike through the Big Woods public land and try to
- 17:06Speaker 1: walk one down, um and do like a back country
- 17:10Speaker 1: whitetail hunt of that kind of fashion. So very interesting, Yeah,
- 17:15Speaker 1: very very different. So I'm trying to get like some
- 17:17Speaker 1: very different types of hunt and hunts in this year.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I'm gonna do, you know, the North Dakota early season
- 17:22Speaker 1: kind of typical huntly I've been doing. Then I'll have
- 17:24Speaker 1: my usual Michigan stuff. Then they'll be the canoe in
- 17:28Speaker 1: back country hunt in October, and then a hike in
- 17:31Speaker 1: mountains tracking deer in the snow hunt in the late season. Um,
- 17:36Speaker 1: this has me be very very different kinds of experiences. Well,
- 17:39Speaker 1: you're lucky ass will probably fill all your tags again
- 17:42Speaker 1: this year, and uh probably, I don't know, Like you
- 17:47Speaker 1: walk into a place and I don't know, I just
- 17:50Speaker 1: there's a there's a part of me that feels like
- 17:52Speaker 1: you're that one YouTube guy where who's just like come here,
- 17:56Speaker 1: come on, come on, come here, dear, come on, yep, yep,
- 18:00Speaker 1: come on, and the deer just are kind of so
- 18:03Speaker 1: curious what the hell is going on? They just like
- 18:05Speaker 1: walk up to you. And then and then you shoot him.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Is that what it's like? No, damn, it's it's all
- 18:10Speaker 1: about good habits and processes and systems, and there's the transition.
- 18:17Speaker 1: So Dan, what I want to talk about to their
- 18:21Speaker 1: is uh is good habits and systems and processes and
- 18:24Speaker 1: how to take all these different things that we learned
- 18:27Speaker 1: and like build a structure around it so it becomes
- 18:30Speaker 1: like second nature for us. And I was actually inspired
- 18:35Speaker 1: to do this kind of whole topic conversation because of
- 18:38Speaker 1: an email I got, Um, you and me, we're gonna
- 18:40Speaker 1: do a podcast last week, and so I was going
- 18:42Speaker 1: to look through a bunch of listener questions and just
- 18:45Speaker 1: put put together kind of Q and a type deal.
- 18:47Speaker 1: And one of the questions I got was related to
- 18:50Speaker 1: this specifically. He was asking about kind of like a
- 18:52Speaker 1: goal system or sorry, goal setting habits right, how we
- 18:56Speaker 1: track progress and things like that. And they got me
- 18:59Speaker 1: thinking about this bigger at your stuff just in generally
- 19:01Speaker 1: in these habits and you know, kind of a generic
- 19:04Speaker 1: definition of habits in this kind of way is is
- 19:07Speaker 1: you know something an action in your life that at
- 19:09Speaker 1: one point started like a deliberate choice, like you chose
- 19:13Speaker 1: to I don't know either, drink of pepsi every morning
- 19:17Speaker 1: on your way to work. Maybe that originally was a
- 19:19Speaker 1: choice made and then you do it frequently enough and
- 19:21Speaker 1: you got rewarded in some kind of way subconsciously enough
- 19:24Speaker 1: that it became an automatic behavior. So there's these things
- 19:27Speaker 1: all threat our lives, right that we do over and
- 19:29Speaker 1: over and over again, and it becomes autopilot mode, like
- 19:32Speaker 1: we don't even think about anymore. Um, they just happen.
- 19:36Speaker 1: And it's interesting that about study over in Due University
- 19:42Speaker 1: found that about forty of the actions that we take
- 19:46Speaker 1: on a given day are habit based. It's about of
- 19:49Speaker 1: what we do in today is just autopilot. We don't
- 19:51Speaker 1: even think about it. It's just done. It's just a habit,
- 19:53Speaker 1: it's a pattern, it's a system that's just going and
- 19:55Speaker 1: going and going. So this is good news if our
- 19:58Speaker 1: habits are good ones. This is kind of scary news
- 20:01Speaker 1: if we've got some bad habits. So that's why I
- 20:05Speaker 1: think that this probably translates into you know, what we're
- 20:08Speaker 1: doing as hunters too, because I'm sure there's a lot
- 20:10Speaker 1: that we do as hunters, whether it be throughout the
- 20:12Speaker 1: year leading up hunting season or during a specific hunt
- 20:16Speaker 1: that we're on autopilot for, or we're doing stuff just
- 20:18Speaker 1: because it's the way we always do it, or we
- 20:20Speaker 1: don't even think about it, but we're doing certain ways,
- 20:22Speaker 1: um and that can really impact, you know, the outcomes.
- 20:25Speaker 1: So I think the thing is that if we recognize
- 20:27Speaker 1: these habits, if we can start to identify where habits
- 20:30Speaker 1: are in our life, or where certain patterns are, we
- 20:32Speaker 1: can start to say, Okay, these are the good ones.
- 20:34Speaker 1: We're gonna kind of foster those, and these are the
- 20:36Speaker 1: bad ones, and maybe we need to change. And there's
- 20:39Speaker 1: there's a lot of studies out there, a lot of
- 20:41Speaker 1: people looking into this kind of stuff, and and the
- 20:43Speaker 1: the fact is that habits can be changed, they can
- 20:47Speaker 1: be replaced, they can be adjusted. So there's there's the
- 20:51Speaker 1: ability for us to adjust these things. It's not just
- 20:53Speaker 1: that we're stuck with what we do. That's good news.
- 20:57Speaker 1: I guess what I think we can do here is
- 21:00Speaker 1: is talked through a little bit of what we do already,
- 21:04Speaker 1: some of the habits that you and I already have
- 21:05Speaker 1: in place, some of the things we like about those,
- 21:07Speaker 1: some of maybe the areas where we feel like we're struggling,
- 21:11Speaker 1: um And then talk through some of the things I've
- 21:12Speaker 1: been learning about how we can change those or different
- 21:15Speaker 1: systems that I've rid about and heard about other high
- 21:18Speaker 1: performers using for their various tasks. UM. I think if
- 21:22Speaker 1: if there's any one common thing when it comes to
- 21:25Speaker 1: these high performers that I was talking about earlier, those
- 21:27Speaker 1: like CEOs or physicists or professional athletes, almost all of
- 21:32Speaker 1: them have very well structured lives. Like that's a very
- 21:36Speaker 1: common trait. People don't. These these really really high achieving people.
- 21:40Speaker 1: They don't just kind of go about their lives willy
- 21:41Speaker 1: kneeling like they They're very thoughtful about everything they do
- 21:45Speaker 1: and how they do it and why they do it.
- 21:47Speaker 1: So they have these thoughts through routines and processes and habits,
- 21:51Speaker 1: these kind of structures throughout their life that are they
- 21:53Speaker 1: are intentional and that help them achieve whatever goals they have.
- 21:57Speaker 1: So that's that's what I think we can drop some
- 21:59Speaker 1: inspiration and from UM, and I think that I think
- 22:03Speaker 1: you applied to what we're doing here. So so that
- 22:05Speaker 1: all being the case. UM, the first question that I
- 22:08Speaker 1: had this is that email question that I got that
- 22:10Speaker 1: originally made me think about this. I think It's a
- 22:12Speaker 1: good one to start this whole conversation because a lot
- 22:17Speaker 1: of the people that I've been reading about and when
- 22:18Speaker 1: it comes to good habits, good systems, good process is
- 22:21Speaker 1: one of the very most important things for all these
- 22:22Speaker 1: high achievers is having goals, like really firmly understanding like
- 22:27Speaker 1: what are your goals, what are these things you're shooting for,
- 22:30Speaker 1: and then tracking those things. So that's kind of where
- 22:32Speaker 1: I thought we should start, because we don't know what
- 22:34Speaker 1: we want and if we don't know how to really
- 22:35Speaker 1: think about what we're striving for. Um, you know, it's
- 22:38Speaker 1: it's it's hard to know to get where you're going
- 22:41Speaker 1: if you don't know where that is. So this first
- 22:42Speaker 1: question from a guy named Jake, and he emailed me
- 22:46Speaker 1: and he said that he's enjoying kind of book recommendations
- 22:49Speaker 1: have been putting out there, and he said he just
- 22:50Speaker 1: recently read a book called Measure What Matters by John
- 22:54Speaker 1: dor And this John dor is a big Silicon Valley
- 22:59Speaker 1: um investor guy out there doing a bunch of early
- 23:01Speaker 1: stage investing and things like that. And so Jake goes
- 23:05Speaker 1: on to right to me, he said, quote, I imagine
- 23:07Speaker 1: you know about the okay, our process. Since you worked
- 23:10Speaker 1: at Google, I'm interested to hear how or if you
- 23:13Speaker 1: implement the okay our process into hunting objectives. And if
- 23:16Speaker 1: you do, how do you recommend we do the same?
- 23:18Speaker 1: End quote. So there's a question. He brings up this
- 23:21Speaker 1: thing called okay rs and okay ours. Uh. This is
- 23:26Speaker 1: basically the goal setting and tracking system that we had
- 23:31Speaker 1: in place at my old day job at Google. It
- 23:33Speaker 1: stands for objective and key results. Objectives and key results,
- 23:37Speaker 1: and so what we had to do back in the
- 23:38Speaker 1: day job was every quarter, so every three months we
- 23:42Speaker 1: would have to put together a set of okay rs
- 23:45Speaker 1: for that quarter, and then we would have those as individuals,
- 23:48Speaker 1: and then our team would have larger okay rs as well,
- 23:51Speaker 1: so that our manager put together his team okay ours,
- 23:55Speaker 1: and then our individual cares health would have to kind
- 23:57Speaker 1: of funnel up into those. But basically what they were
- 23:59Speaker 1: is is an objective. So like a high level goal. Um,
- 24:03Speaker 1: maybe that's something like I want to, you know, drive
- 24:07Speaker 1: ten percent growth in sales that on my old day job.
- 24:09Speaker 1: Now it might be something like I want to, um,
- 24:14Speaker 1: you know, I want to have ten new tree stands
- 24:19Speaker 1: hung this year, or set up ten new trees to
- 24:21Speaker 1: hunt from this year or something like that, whatever might
- 24:23Speaker 1: be some high level objective and then the key results.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And this is kind of the key with this whole
- 24:28Speaker 1: system at the job was that it's not okay just
- 24:31Speaker 1: to have goals. You need to have actual key results
- 24:34Speaker 1: that indicate success in those goals that can be measured. So, um,
- 24:39Speaker 1: maybe my first example of the tree stand wasn't good.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Maybe I should just say I want to kill buck
- 24:44Speaker 1: this year is a high level objective, and then key
- 24:46Speaker 1: results would be like five things or three or four
- 24:49Speaker 1: different things that you can do leading up to that goal,
- 24:54Speaker 1: like things that would let that goal happen, and that
- 24:56Speaker 1: can be measured. So if the goals I want to
- 24:59Speaker 1: kill a deer, the key results might be I will
- 25:03Speaker 1: have hunted a minimum of ten times, um, I will have,
- 25:08Speaker 1: you know, spent a minimum of ten hours scouting, I
- 25:12Speaker 1: will have hung ten trail cameras, and I will have
- 25:16Speaker 1: spent you know, fifteen hours practicing with my bow. These
- 25:20Speaker 1: are arbitrary, but the key thing being have a high
- 25:24Speaker 1: level goal and then a set of actual things that
- 25:27Speaker 1: you can do and make sure you're doing and check
- 25:29Speaker 1: on um that would lead to the success of that goal,
- 25:33Speaker 1: and then every three months we would have to go
- 25:34Speaker 1: back and look at those and say, Okay, how have
- 25:37Speaker 1: I done as far as you know, knocking out those goals?
- 25:40Speaker 1: How HAVEING made progress on these these things that I
- 25:43Speaker 1: said I was measuring and taking action on UM. So
- 25:46Speaker 1: we should do that every three months and at the
- 25:48Speaker 1: end of the year look back at the whole thing.
- 25:50Speaker 1: And the gist of this was that, and the reason
- 25:52Speaker 1: why we did it was that, you know, having these high,
- 25:57Speaker 1: high lofty goals are great, but most people never all
- 26:00Speaker 1: through on them. Most people don't really understand the small
- 26:02Speaker 1: steps needed to achieve big things. Most people aren't tracking
- 26:06Speaker 1: what's happening, and then they get to the end of
- 26:07Speaker 1: the year, maybe like someone sets a New Year's resolution
- 26:10Speaker 1: and then a month then you kind of fizzle out
- 26:12Speaker 1: and you forget about until next new year. So with
- 26:14Speaker 1: these okay rs, the thing is, Okay, we have the
- 26:17Speaker 1: high level goal, we have the measurable, actional, actionable steps
- 26:20Speaker 1: will lead to it, and then we check often and
- 26:23Speaker 1: we get accountability on it. So feedback on it said okay,
- 26:26Speaker 1: how are we doing? Someone else reviews it with us UM,
- 26:29Speaker 1: and that led to people actually taking progress towards the goal,
- 26:33Speaker 1: because I think it's a baby steps. If you do
- 26:35Speaker 1: all these baby steps leading to it, you actually get
- 26:37Speaker 1: stuff done. Yeah, so that's what I used to do. UM.
- 26:43Speaker 1: Do I use that still today? Not to the degree
- 26:47Speaker 1: that we used to do it, um in my old
- 26:49Speaker 1: day job, but I certainly take some of these things
- 26:51Speaker 1: into account in my daily life. And UM, I think
- 26:55Speaker 1: this would be something we should we should talk about, Danny.
- 26:56Speaker 1: How do we set our goals? How do we track
- 26:58Speaker 1: our goals? How do we make sure making movement on them? Um?
- 27:02Speaker 1: You and meet each year, usually in August, we do
- 27:05Speaker 1: a podcast where we talk about our goals for each year, UM,
- 27:09Speaker 1: which I've always enjoyed and that's like a fun, helpful thing. UM.
- 27:12Speaker 1: But what I haven't done a good enough job of
- 27:14Speaker 1: is really, um going beyond that? And I think I
- 27:18Speaker 1: probably should after you know, kind of rethinking through the
- 27:21Speaker 1: old okay, our process and and even looking at how
- 27:25Speaker 1: some other people have been doing stuff like this, there
- 27:27Speaker 1: probably is something to be said about trying to make
- 27:30Speaker 1: yourself more accountable about all the little steps that lead
- 27:33Speaker 1: to the big goals. So, you know, if I was
- 27:36Speaker 1: better at this, and I should be better at this.
- 27:38Speaker 1: If my goal of this year is to kill a
- 27:39Speaker 1: four and a half year old buck in Michigan, let's
- 27:41Speaker 1: say one of my goals. Um, it would be really
- 27:44Speaker 1: smart for me to line out four things I could
- 27:47Speaker 1: do in the next you know, six months that would
- 27:50Speaker 1: help make that happen. In my head, I know some
- 27:53Speaker 1: of those things, UM, but it would be a really
- 27:56Speaker 1: smart system to put into place, to start, um, making
- 28:01Speaker 1: myself a little bit more accountable to the steps along
- 28:03Speaker 1: the way. UM. I mean so right now as far
- 28:07Speaker 1: as what I do, we have our our our yearly conversation.
- 28:10Speaker 1: You and me do our goals. Another thing that I
- 28:12Speaker 1: do the last handful of years is in the spring,
- 28:15Speaker 1: usually well late winter, like February March, I usually put
- 28:18Speaker 1: together a deer hunting to do list. So every different
- 28:21Speaker 1: trip I'm gonna go on, or every main hunt or
- 28:24Speaker 1: farm i'm gonna hunt or whatever, I'll put together to
- 28:26Speaker 1: do list of everything that's got to get done before
- 28:28Speaker 1: the season starts. I've got that already going now for
- 28:31Speaker 1: this year, so I keep track of at least the
- 28:33Speaker 1: tasks that I need to do. UM. And that's been
- 28:36Speaker 1: a helpful adjustment that I've kind of added to my
- 28:38Speaker 1: repertoire the last couple three years, probably, um, but I
- 28:42Speaker 1: do think I could probably take it to the next level.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Do you how do you track this stuff? Dan? So?
- 28:48Speaker 1: I am a list maker, right, and UM, what I
- 28:52Speaker 1: mean by that is like, not necessarily on the hunting things,
- 28:57Speaker 1: but on the things I need to do before a
- 29:01Speaker 1: certain date. Excuse me. So I'd say, for example, I
- 29:05Speaker 1: have a long term to do list or a list
- 29:08Speaker 1: and a short term list. And so like the first
- 29:12Speaker 1: thing that pops into my head, I'm looking at this
- 29:14Speaker 1: white board that I have in my office right now,
- 29:16Speaker 1: and it's just a breakdown of everything I need to
- 29:19Speaker 1: do for the Sportsman's Nation. Right, I need to you know,
- 29:22Speaker 1: accomplish these goals by this date. They are not necessarily goals,
- 29:26Speaker 1: They're just things I have to do before this These
- 29:29Speaker 1: dates they have a date um with them. So it's
- 29:32Speaker 1: just like I need to do, you know, submit this
- 29:36Speaker 1: RSS feed by this date. I need to have this
- 29:38Speaker 1: profile set up by this date. I need to do
- 29:41Speaker 1: all these things by this date. And if I don't,
- 29:45Speaker 1: if I see that date creeping up on me, I
- 29:48Speaker 1: need to, you know, work harder and faster on that. Right.
- 29:51Speaker 1: It's basically just the list and it's in order of importance.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I think that's the really important thing to the prioritization.
- 30:02Speaker 1: That's huge is importance and then dates to putting that
- 30:07Speaker 1: kind of UM restriction on it almost forces you to
- 30:12Speaker 1: take action. And I think that what we've done a
- 30:16Speaker 1: little bit, UM my wife and I his we started
- 30:20Speaker 1: doing like every New Year's Eve, we have this, like
- 30:23Speaker 1: the third year we've done this. Now we sit down
- 30:26Speaker 1: and we make a set of goals for the year.
- 30:28Speaker 1: UM Like, okay, there's like personal goals, work related goals,
- 30:32Speaker 1: family related goals. UM. So we go and we set
- 30:36Speaker 1: these goals out. But the first year or two we
- 30:37Speaker 1: would would make these goals on New Year's Eve and
- 30:40Speaker 1: then we didn't check back in on it until the
- 30:42Speaker 1: next New Year's Eve, and we kind of failed on
- 30:45Speaker 1: a lot of stuff. But it was good. We thought
- 30:46Speaker 1: was a good helpful thing and encourage a lot of
- 30:48Speaker 1: good conversation. But then this past year what we did
- 30:50Speaker 1: is we started checking in UM kind of doing what
- 30:53Speaker 1: he used to do and work but slightly less formalized.
- 30:56Speaker 1: But we started checking in midway through the year, and
- 30:59Speaker 1: then we start doing just said, we started putting dates
- 31:01Speaker 1: on certain things. We started ranking certain things. Um, because
- 31:07Speaker 1: stuff doesn't get done. Life just gets in the way
- 31:10Speaker 1: unless you find ways to to lock stuff in. And
- 31:14Speaker 1: so same thing with like a hunting to do list.
- 31:16Speaker 1: Like every year, I can't tell you I've gotten better,
- 31:19Speaker 1: but every single year it gets to be late August
- 31:21Speaker 1: or middle of August. I'm like, oh my gosh, I
- 31:23Speaker 1: have so many things I gotta get done still before
- 31:25Speaker 1: you know, of September, when I try to stay out
- 31:27Speaker 1: of the woods completely. Um. And so every year I've
- 31:30Speaker 1: tried to get better utilizing these list systems and and
- 31:33Speaker 1: now starting to put dates on things. But now now
- 31:35Speaker 1: much better than used to be. And that I've got
- 31:37Speaker 1: these lists put together here in the early spring, and
- 31:39Speaker 1: now I'm saying, Okay, this project and this project I
- 31:41Speaker 1: gotta get done before the end of May. This thing
- 31:44Speaker 1: I get done before the end of June. And if
- 31:46Speaker 1: you don't do that, it's just there's always some other
- 31:49Speaker 1: thing that needs to be done more in your head.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Right now, I gotta go pick up the kids, I
- 31:53Speaker 1: gotta take out the trash, I gotta mode the lawn,
- 31:55Speaker 1: I gotta do this, gotta do that. Um. It's only
- 31:58Speaker 1: when at least for me, the only way I can
- 32:00Speaker 1: get things done well ahead of time without procrastinating on
- 32:04Speaker 1: is if I put a date on it and I
- 32:06Speaker 1: forced it to happen, Like, Okay, I know this thing
- 32:08Speaker 1: has to happen. I need to make time for it
- 32:10Speaker 1: because the time isn't just gonna magically arrive, like you
- 32:12Speaker 1: have to carve it out somehow thought like proactively doing it. Um.
- 32:18Speaker 1: But I'm I struggle with that, like I'm a procrastinator
- 32:20Speaker 1: unless I force myself to do stuff like this. Um
- 32:25Speaker 1: And I feel like this is the stuff like doing
- 32:27Speaker 1: like getting these Earth offseason projects done, getting this gutting done,
- 32:31Speaker 1: getting all the work done. That is usually what's one
- 32:34Speaker 1: of the main separators from the guy that gets out
- 32:38Speaker 1: there and has a good time but doesn't fill his tag,
- 32:41Speaker 1: whereas the guy or a girl that gets out there
- 32:42Speaker 1: and does fill fill the tag. Yum, it's it's follow through.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I think that's I think that's key. So so yeah,
- 32:52Speaker 1: I'm I'm definitely big on those lists. And I think
- 32:55Speaker 1: that I'm trying to trying to find a way to
- 32:58Speaker 1: to to get more accountable. And that's an another thing
- 33:00Speaker 1: with a lot of these habits and a lot of
- 33:02Speaker 1: these systems stuff is finding a way to get accountability
- 33:05Speaker 1: around it. You know. It's almost like I feel like
- 33:09Speaker 1: with you, like having someone like you that I can
- 33:11Speaker 1: talk to you every year about this. There's a certain
- 33:13Speaker 1: level like an accountability partnership here, Like you can call
- 33:17Speaker 1: me out if I'm not doing something I was gonna do.
- 33:19Speaker 1: I can call you out if you're not doing something
- 33:21Speaker 1: you're not doing. Um, But I feel like we all,
- 33:24Speaker 1: at least I benefit from that. We could probably all
- 33:27Speaker 1: benefit from having people like that that keep track of
- 33:29Speaker 1: stuff and call us out and we're not taking action,
- 33:33Speaker 1: you know, Yeah, someone to throw the bullshit card every
- 33:36Speaker 1: once in a while. Yeah, It's almost like I imagine
- 33:39Speaker 1: that you could. I think this is a simple thing
- 33:41Speaker 1: that everyone could do that would probably help is if
- 33:45Speaker 1: you know, right now you put together this kind of
- 33:48Speaker 1: list for yourself. Okay, here's a couple of high level
- 33:51Speaker 1: goals I have for my hunting season. Here are the
- 33:54Speaker 1: two or three or four steps I need to take
- 33:57Speaker 1: to achieve that goal. And and then do this with
- 34:01Speaker 1: a friend, like get one of your other hunting buddies
- 34:02Speaker 1: to do the same thing. Both of you guys put
- 34:04Speaker 1: together lists and like share them with each other and
- 34:07Speaker 1: say here's my list, and everybody gives his list to you,
- 34:10Speaker 1: and then you just make a deal and say, all right,
- 34:13Speaker 1: we're gonna hold each other to this and maybe plan
- 34:16Speaker 1: on like a check in, you know, halfway from now
- 34:19Speaker 1: to the day of hunting season. Maybe you guys just
- 34:21Speaker 1: need to plan. All right, Hey, on this day, we're
- 34:23Speaker 1: gonna go get a beer and we're gonna check on
- 34:25Speaker 1: our progress. Um, make sure we're taking action on some
- 34:29Speaker 1: of this stuff. Make sure we're making progress and this stuff.
- 34:31Speaker 1: And I think I think that's like a pretty simple
- 34:33Speaker 1: way to um to notice some real improvements just by
- 34:37Speaker 1: doing the stuff you know you have to do. I
- 34:39Speaker 1: feel like that's such a thing. Like we know a
- 34:42Speaker 1: lot of the stuff we should be doing to have success.
- 34:46Speaker 1: It's just do we follow through on all of it? Yeah,
- 34:49Speaker 1: and this seems to be a good way to it.
- 34:51Speaker 1: I'll be the first one to say, yes, I have
- 34:54Speaker 1: these lists, uh, and yes I have all this stuff.
- 34:58Speaker 1: But just like you, I'm not gonna say I'm not
- 35:01Speaker 1: necessarily a procrastinator. But one thing I'm not good at
- 35:06Speaker 1: is when so like I like to I like to
- 35:12Speaker 1: have things set in place, but I am not necessarily
- 35:17Speaker 1: good at adjusting when chaos enters my life or when
- 35:22Speaker 1: a wrench gets thrown into the spokes per se. Right,
- 35:25Speaker 1: So let's say I have you know, I have this list,
- 35:28Speaker 1: and at the end of the list today I want
- 35:30Speaker 1: to shoot my bow. But if something happens where my
- 35:34Speaker 1: wife needs to hop on a meeting at work, then
- 35:37Speaker 1: I don't get the works my work done because I'm
- 35:40Speaker 1: watching a kid, and then everything gets pushed back, and
- 35:43Speaker 1: then shooting my bow or maybe working out or uh
- 35:48Speaker 1: maybe you know, doing some extra stuff on the business
- 35:51Speaker 1: side of things takes a back seat. So all that
- 35:55Speaker 1: just means that I am up an hour, two hours
- 35:59Speaker 1: later or in a day, you know, trying to get
- 36:03Speaker 1: all this done, and then I get I get to
- 36:07Speaker 1: the point where I'm just like, screw it, I'll do
- 36:10Speaker 1: it tomorrow or screw it, I'll do it, which is
- 36:12Speaker 1: kind of like procrastinating, but it's not by my own choice,
- 36:16Speaker 1: if that makes sense. Yeah, And I totally relate to that. Um,
- 36:20Speaker 1: that's that's something I definitely deal with. And I I
- 36:26Speaker 1: wonder if that goes back to kind of what we
- 36:28Speaker 1: were talking about, like the prioritization thing and it's like
- 36:31Speaker 1: identifying certain things that are easy to get bumped. Like,
- 36:35Speaker 1: for example, I do this all the time. I'm I'm
- 36:38Speaker 1: I'm struggling with a couple of things like this, Like
- 36:40Speaker 1: right now, UM, I have fallen off the bandwagon when
- 36:44Speaker 1: it comes to like regular running and cardio workout. UM,
- 36:48Speaker 1: usually pretty good about it. But I've just fallen off bandwagon,
- 36:50Speaker 1: have let bad habits seat back in. And it's one
- 36:54Speaker 1: of those things that I tell myself already I get
- 36:56Speaker 1: out there and do I gotta get back out there
- 36:57Speaker 1: and do it. But it's always just like what you
- 36:59Speaker 1: just said. Something comes up and I was gonna do
- 37:01Speaker 1: in the afternoon, and then I work out crazy. Now
- 37:03Speaker 1: it's already five thirty and I gotta be helping with dinner,
- 37:05Speaker 1: and I gotta do this, and I gotta do this,
- 37:06Speaker 1: and I gotta do that. And if I were to
- 37:09Speaker 1: take my own advice, which is what I should be doing,
- 37:11Speaker 1: I should be doing what I'm talking about here. I
- 37:15Speaker 1: should probably find a way to incorporate if I think
- 37:20Speaker 1: that's so important for myself, which I do think so
- 37:22Speaker 1: I need to man up and build a better habit
- 37:26Speaker 1: around it that forces it to happen. Before things can interfere. Right,
- 37:30Speaker 1: So it's like what I need to do and what
- 37:32Speaker 1: I what I used to do successfully and fell off,
- 37:35Speaker 1: was that I would wake up early in the morning.
- 37:37Speaker 1: The first thing I would do would be go for
- 37:39Speaker 1: a run before anything else can get in the way. Right,
- 37:41Speaker 1: If I get it done right away, no other obstacles
- 37:44Speaker 1: could get in my way. On that, and that that
- 37:45Speaker 1: whole morning routine thing, it's a good segue for something
- 37:49Speaker 1: I was going to mention. Um. One of the things
- 37:52Speaker 1: I've tried really hard struggled with but I've gotten much
- 37:55Speaker 1: better at it is developing a morning routine. And this
- 37:59Speaker 1: is another one of those things when I when you
- 38:00Speaker 1: look at all these high high achievers and high performers,
- 38:04Speaker 1: another big consistent UM pattern with these people is that
- 38:10Speaker 1: they start their mornings and like a really planned, thoughtful way,
- 38:13Speaker 1: like a morning routine is. Like if you go out
- 38:15Speaker 1: there and like google morning routine, there's tons and tons
- 38:17Speaker 1: and tons of stuff written about this, Like there's been
- 38:19Speaker 1: a lot of evidence that shows that the people that
- 38:22Speaker 1: have a certain way they start their days and don't
- 38:25Speaker 1: just don't wake up at a random time and kind
- 38:27Speaker 1: of fiddle fattle around, but actually have a plan of
- 38:29Speaker 1: getting their day start off the right way, do the
- 38:31Speaker 1: same things, have good habits around it, like for for
- 38:34Speaker 1: number a number of different reasons. It really leads to
- 38:37Speaker 1: positive change, good stuff. So I've been trying to develop
- 38:39Speaker 1: that myself. Like my tendency is I like to stay
- 38:42Speaker 1: up late, and I would like to sleep in late.
- 38:45Speaker 1: If it was like if it was just my body
- 38:46Speaker 1: doing what my body would do, I can sleep in
- 38:48Speaker 1: late and I just do that. But I don't want
- 38:51Speaker 1: to do that, like I want to be up early
- 38:52Speaker 1: and getting stuff done. So I've had like a really
- 38:55Speaker 1: hard time over the last ten years to do that
- 38:58Speaker 1: because I used to be good back in the day job,
- 39:00Speaker 1: and then I quit my day job and started working
- 39:02Speaker 1: for myself. Then I would just like sleep till I
- 39:05Speaker 1: wanted to sleep. I was like, hey, this is great,
- 39:06Speaker 1: I'll wake up when I want to wake up and
- 39:08Speaker 1: enjoy the day in that kind of way. Um, but
- 39:10Speaker 1: it just found that your day got off to a
- 39:12Speaker 1: slowish start. And and I've been in the last five
- 39:16Speaker 1: years or so changing that in waking up early for me,
- 39:20Speaker 1: except for if it's like for hunting season or going
- 39:22Speaker 1: on a fishing trip or some kind of thing like
- 39:24Speaker 1: that where there's like, I don't know that reward, I
- 39:26Speaker 1: can get up and go for that, but getting up
- 39:28Speaker 1: for just a daily day, it's a regular work day. Man,
- 39:32Speaker 1: I'm I'm a chronic hitting the snooze or kind of guy. Yeam.
- 39:37Speaker 1: So what I started doing was actually implementing something that
- 39:45Speaker 1: that kind of falls right into this stuff. If you're
- 39:47Speaker 1: trying to change the habit. One of the things I've
- 39:49Speaker 1: read a lot about one of the things that I've
- 39:50Speaker 1: tried to incorporate. So if you're trying to change the habit,
- 39:52Speaker 1: maybe it's to try to start running every day or
- 39:55Speaker 1: waking up early every day. Is going for incremental changing.
- 39:59Speaker 1: It's really hard hard to go from doing something to
- 40:02Speaker 1: doing like a completely different, dramatic thing like so to
- 40:04Speaker 1: go from waking up at seven in the morning to
- 40:07Speaker 1: wake up at four in the morning would be really
- 40:09Speaker 1: hard to do. Um And if you can't do it
- 40:11Speaker 1: that one time, it just becomes harder and harder to
- 40:13Speaker 1: repeat it. So the theory is that if you can
- 40:17Speaker 1: shoot for small goals at first, shoot for something that's
- 40:20Speaker 1: achievable first, and achieve it. So what I did is
- 40:24Speaker 1: I said, Okay, my body usually wakes up at seven,
- 40:26Speaker 1: but I want to be waking up earlier. So I'm
- 40:28Speaker 1: just gonna try to wake up at six thirty and
- 40:31Speaker 1: do that and try to try to form like a
- 40:34Speaker 1: consistency there. And so I started waking up at six thirties,
- 40:37Speaker 1: so it's only half an hour earlier. It's not that different.
- 40:39Speaker 1: My body wasn't that messed up. I could achieve it,
- 40:43Speaker 1: and every time I did it, I did it day
- 40:44Speaker 1: after day after day. It became a little bit easier.
- 40:46Speaker 1: And you also get a little bit of a reward,
- 40:48Speaker 1: right like you did the thing you said you're gonna do.
- 40:50Speaker 1: That feels good. Um. So this is theory incremental change,
- 40:54Speaker 1: and then the theory of small wins. This is the
- 40:57Speaker 1: other things. If you're trying to make a big change,
- 40:58Speaker 1: start with these small little changes that you can actually
- 41:01Speaker 1: achieve and get done, because that builds momentum kind of
- 41:04Speaker 1: a snowball, and then you find a small wind, so
- 41:07Speaker 1: small reward. Uh. So that's kind of what I did there.
- 41:10Speaker 1: I started with six thirty that felt good, rewarded myself.
- 41:13Speaker 1: I got the outcomes I was wanting, and then I
- 41:15Speaker 1: would slow him push it. So now now I wake
- 41:17Speaker 1: up at six am. Every day, I have more time
- 41:19Speaker 1: to get the stuff done I want to get done,
- 41:21Speaker 1: feeling good about it, and it's much easier to do
- 41:23Speaker 1: all these other things I want to do now that
- 41:25Speaker 1: that What I need to get back to is I
- 41:27Speaker 1: used to wake up around five thirty, go for the run,
- 41:29Speaker 1: get shower, and start working. Then a bunch of crazy
- 41:32Speaker 1: stuff with work just made it harder. And then have
- 41:34Speaker 1: a baby made it harder for me to get all
- 41:36Speaker 1: that stuff done. But now I'm trying to. Now I'm
- 41:39Speaker 1: trying to get back into it. Well. What So basically
- 41:41Speaker 1: my morning routine is I get up at six, have
- 41:44Speaker 1: a couple of water, organize my day. I kind of
- 41:46Speaker 1: set my to do list for the day. Um, drink
- 41:50Speaker 1: a cup of coffee, and then get into my hardest work.
- 41:53Speaker 1: Um right at the gate is what I do on
- 41:55Speaker 1: like a regular work day. Um, I'm curious what your
- 41:58Speaker 1: regular day morning routine is like day, But then we
- 42:00Speaker 1: should talk to what our hunting morning routine looks like.
- 42:04Speaker 1: I think that's one of these things that could apply
- 42:07Speaker 1: to hunting that I think would be interesting to look at. Yeah,
- 42:10Speaker 1: so I'll be completely honest my my hunting routine and
- 42:15Speaker 1: my morning routine at home are completely different, completely different
- 42:21Speaker 1: when and I'm gonna start with the hunting first because
- 42:26Speaker 1: I'm more proud of it like that. Well, and the
- 42:30Speaker 1: reason I say that is because I get out of
- 42:32Speaker 1: the tree stand, let's say, and I'm just gonna jump
- 42:34Speaker 1: right into the full blown rut where you're hunting morning
- 42:36Speaker 1: and you're hunting, you know, most of the day, right
- 42:40Speaker 1: and you're hunting evening. So I get home after an
- 42:43Speaker 1: evening hunt, I organized all my gear, charge my osonics batteries, whatever,
- 42:49Speaker 1: you know, lay put my uh, set my boots by
- 42:53Speaker 1: the chair, have my socks ready to go, have my
- 42:57Speaker 1: pants ready to go, have my bow um in the truck.
- 43:01Speaker 1: So all I have to do is take it out
- 43:02Speaker 1: like all these things. It's just I mean, it's it's
- 43:04Speaker 1: literally I plan my day in a straight line. Wake up,
- 43:09Speaker 1: walk out to the you know, shower, walk out to
- 43:11Speaker 1: the garage, uh, get dressed, Hop in the car, drive
- 43:15Speaker 1: to the property, pick out what I need to pick
- 43:18Speaker 1: out of the truck, turn on, turn on my head lamp,
- 43:21Speaker 1: go to the tree stand. Like that. It's it's that
- 43:24Speaker 1: organized where there's hardly any problems, right, I get home
- 43:28Speaker 1: from the morning hunt, I do the same thing I
- 43:30Speaker 1: set up. I set everything up to where I know
- 43:33Speaker 1: it's almost there's a lean manufacturing term called five s
- 43:38Speaker 1: where you you put everything in a specific spot so
- 43:42Speaker 1: you know where it's at, you know, you know that
- 43:45Speaker 1: it's going to be there the next day, and there's
- 43:47Speaker 1: no issues. Right, It's just it's clean, it's smooth, like,
- 43:51Speaker 1: there's no there's no issues now at home, Like, I
- 43:55Speaker 1: got a son who still gets up, uh throughout the
- 43:58Speaker 1: middle of the night. Right, So last night he got
- 44:00Speaker 1: up twice, once at once at two and once at four,
- 44:04Speaker 1: and he cries and he cries and he cries and
- 44:06Speaker 1: he cries. Right, we try to cry out. Method doesn't work.
- 44:08Speaker 1: So if we don't give him a bottle, or we
- 44:12Speaker 1: don't put him in our bed or whatever, then that
- 44:16Speaker 1: just means I'm up right. So there's no like in
- 44:20Speaker 1: my life now. I gotta sleep when I can sleep right,
- 44:23Speaker 1: because I'm waking up multiple times a night because whether
- 44:26Speaker 1: I'm the one going and getting him or I'm the
- 44:29Speaker 1: one uh like my wife goes and kids, I'm still
- 44:32Speaker 1: waking up right. So then some mornings I can wake
- 44:35Speaker 1: up at five thirty when the kid wakes up or
- 44:41Speaker 1: sometimes like today, I can sleep until six something and
- 44:46Speaker 1: and there's no like, there's no organization, there's no straight line.
- 44:50Speaker 1: It's just like I got we wake up, I got
- 44:52Speaker 1: kids saying hey, I want breakfast, I want this, I
- 44:55Speaker 1: want this, I want this, I want that. There's no routine,
- 44:58Speaker 1: it's just complete and utter asks every morning. And even
- 45:03Speaker 1: when I try to get things organized, it just it
- 45:06Speaker 1: seems like it quickly falls out of that line, right,
- 45:10Speaker 1: just because of the chaots, the chaotic state that the
- 45:13Speaker 1: household is in every single day. Yeah, that's gotta be challenging. Yeah. Yeah,
- 45:20Speaker 1: So I know this is kind of maybe a little
- 45:23Speaker 1: bit off off the topic, but I think it's very
- 45:26Speaker 1: important because for me, and I think for you, you
- 45:32Speaker 1: are very passionate about hunting and the outdoors. I won't
- 45:36Speaker 1: say the outdoors because I know your wife is pretty
- 45:39Speaker 1: outdoorsy too, but you as far as hunting, right, and
- 45:43Speaker 1: and me as far as hunting, and my wife she
- 45:46Speaker 1: likes the outdoor like she likes hunting, but it's not
- 45:49Speaker 1: her passion, right. So how have you addressed this issue
- 45:56Speaker 1: to where yes, you want everything in your hunting world
- 46:00Speaker 1: to be organized, but maybe somebody else like your wife
- 46:05Speaker 1: doesn't really care about that kind of thing. Yeah, yeah,
- 46:08Speaker 1: that's an interesting point. And and where I get into trouble.
- 46:13Speaker 1: And this just came up the other day. There was
- 46:15Speaker 1: something there was a project in the house at the
- 46:17Speaker 1: house that I was working on. I did it, I
- 46:19Speaker 1: thought I did, just to find job with it. My
- 46:22Speaker 1: wife felt like I did a half ass job with it.
- 46:25Speaker 1: And she was really frustrated with it because she's like,
- 46:29Speaker 1: how come there's all these things around the house that
- 46:32Speaker 1: need to get done and you just kind of schmuck
- 46:34Speaker 1: it together. But then when it comes to hunting, you
- 46:36Speaker 1: don't cut any corners. You talk about how important the
- 46:38Speaker 1: details are. You're working so hard this stuff, so why
- 46:41Speaker 1: are you prioritizing that stuff and doing quality work? And
- 46:44Speaker 1: then you do a halfass job here at home? And
- 46:46Speaker 1: that was that was a hard burn. That was a
- 46:48Speaker 1: hard burn. And and I don't try to do that,
- 46:51Speaker 1: like I'm not purposefully trying to do a half ass
- 46:54Speaker 1: job staying in the deck or something like that. But um,
- 46:59Speaker 1: but maybe that maybe she's right. Maybe there's certain things
- 47:02Speaker 1: like stuff that I don't enjoy as much, or stuff
- 47:04Speaker 1: that I just has to get done because it has
- 47:06Speaker 1: to get done. Um, you know, maybe I'm guilty of that.
- 47:10Speaker 1: She might have made a good point, and I don't
- 47:12Speaker 1: know how to deal with that. It's like to your
- 47:14Speaker 1: earlier point, It's like almost the biggest thing I've been
- 47:19Speaker 1: trying to do is understanding what really matters to my
- 47:26Speaker 1: wife as far as um, what is she prioritize and
- 47:31Speaker 1: so for her, Like it's like action and service is
- 47:35Speaker 1: really important to her. So like it's not how much
- 47:39Speaker 1: I tell her I love her, or how nice I
- 47:40Speaker 1: am to her, or how while I treat her or
- 47:42Speaker 1: anything like that. That's great, but the stuff that really
- 47:45Speaker 1: fills her up is like acts of service, So actually
- 47:48Speaker 1: doing things to help her, doing things around the house, Um,
- 47:53Speaker 1: all that stuff is the stuff that really shows her
- 47:55Speaker 1: that I care. And so I struggle with that because
- 47:58Speaker 1: I used to be much more like I've verbalized stuff,
- 48:00Speaker 1: but I'm not as good as like doing all those
- 48:03Speaker 1: kinds of things. She's much more of like the taking
- 48:05Speaker 1: care of people. And I guess maybe I get a
- 48:07Speaker 1: little bit tunnel vision and I get focused on something
- 48:09Speaker 1: that I'm working on, and then I get the blinders
- 48:11Speaker 1: and I don't do is get at helping other folks.
- 48:13Speaker 1: So that's been a struggle for me and been trying
- 48:15Speaker 1: to recently like just prioritize it, like figure I actually
- 48:19Speaker 1: have this kind of ties and everything. I've tried to
- 48:23Speaker 1: place queues within my life to make sure I think
- 48:25Speaker 1: about these other things. So I've got post it note
- 48:27Speaker 1: right next to my computer. So that's the place where
- 48:30Speaker 1: I'm usually so focused on work, and that's where I
- 48:32Speaker 1: get into trouble because I get in here and I'm
- 48:34Speaker 1: working on some project and I'm obsessing over work. Now
- 48:37Speaker 1: I've got a queue right next to me that I
- 48:39Speaker 1: see every day that reminds me, says, what have you
- 48:41Speaker 1: done around the house today, Like making sure that because
- 48:44Speaker 1: I'm so passionate about the outdoors and my outdoor projects
- 48:46Speaker 1: there I'm spending all this time on that, I need
- 48:48Speaker 1: to give back just as much though to this other
- 48:50Speaker 1: part of my life that is more important. But sometimes
- 48:54Speaker 1: I get sidetracked by the thing I'm passionate about outside
- 48:57Speaker 1: of it. Um. So I think I've try to recognize
- 49:00Speaker 1: that there's some balance, trying to figure out ways to
- 49:03Speaker 1: remind myself to you know, fix make sure I don't
- 49:06Speaker 1: get off track. And if I'm doing that, if I'm
- 49:08Speaker 1: showing my Karen and and and love for my family
- 49:13Speaker 1: through my action. That helps my wife understand why I'm
- 49:16Speaker 1: so helps my wife be okay with the amount of
- 49:20Speaker 1: time and passion I put into the other stuff, as
- 49:22Speaker 1: long as I'm keeping the scales balanced with the thing
- 49:24Speaker 1: that matters to her most. So the thing that matters
- 49:26Speaker 1: for most is that doing my share here at the house,
- 49:29Speaker 1: doing things like that. Um you know, if I brought
- 49:32Speaker 1: her flowers every time I got back from a hunting trip,
- 49:34Speaker 1: she wouldn't give a shit about that. That wouldn't help.
- 49:37Speaker 1: But if I were to spend if I would take
- 49:39Speaker 1: a weekend out of hunting season and do a bunch
- 49:41Speaker 1: of stuff around the house or put together something that
- 49:43Speaker 1: she really wanted to get done, that's the kind of thing. Um. So,
- 49:47Speaker 1: I don't know if that answers your question, but like
- 49:49Speaker 1: that's how I'm trying to tackle that. What about you?
- 49:53Speaker 1: Just like it's kind of the same, right, But it's
- 49:56Speaker 1: just our lives are so busy right and now at
- 50:00Speaker 1: it's crazy because at when I was had my cubicle job,
- 50:04Speaker 1: I had a routine. I was up, I was up
- 50:08Speaker 1: in the morning, I did this little thing, you know,
- 50:11Speaker 1: I did that. I went to work, I worked out
- 50:13Speaker 1: over my lunch break, I you know, went back to work,
- 50:17Speaker 1: I came home. I had a schedule every day for
- 50:20Speaker 1: a podcast until X time, and then after that it
- 50:23Speaker 1: was family time all after that, like complete routine. Now
- 50:28Speaker 1: since I've had to take the kids out of daycare,
- 50:31Speaker 1: right because you know, we're not making the same money
- 50:33Speaker 1: that we're making anymore. I took the kids out of daycare,
- 50:37Speaker 1: and yes, we're saving money, but now there's you know,
- 50:41Speaker 1: sixteen hours a week. If I'm not gonna say sixteen
- 50:45Speaker 1: hours because that's just the amount of time that the
- 50:47Speaker 1: kids were at daycare, sixteen to twenty hours a week
- 50:50Speaker 1: that I no longer have to work on things. So
- 50:55Speaker 1: now that has to be redistributed throughout three other days
- 50:58Speaker 1: for other days. Five other days of the week, Sundays
- 51:00Speaker 1: and Saturdays are typically for the family, right, And I
- 51:04Speaker 1: can't just like, hey, I got this work to do.
- 51:06Speaker 1: Go that's kind of that kind of frustrates my wife, right,
- 51:10Speaker 1: whether I need to shoot my bow or you need
- 51:11Speaker 1: to work out right to get ready for you know,
- 51:14Speaker 1: the Colorado trip, and it just I don't know, it's
- 51:19Speaker 1: I need to stop this snowball from getting bigger and
- 51:23Speaker 1: bigger and bigger and bigger, and that's very hard to do. Yeah, yeah,
- 51:29Speaker 1: I'm right there with it. I think this is a
- 51:34Speaker 1: good this a good opportunity to talk about. Then, uh,
- 51:38Speaker 1: what I've been researching and understanding about how to create
- 51:42Speaker 1: or change a habit. So let's talk about your situation
- 51:44Speaker 1: right there. You got a ship ton of stuff going on,
- 51:47Speaker 1: really busy, lots of chaos. Um, but you want to
- 51:52Speaker 1: do something like um incorporated shooting your bow habit? Like, right,
- 51:57Speaker 1: would you say you wish you had a better habit
- 51:58Speaker 1: of shooting your bow? Okay, So from the reading I've done,
- 52:03Speaker 1: there's a couple of things that they're saying that can
- 52:05Speaker 1: help you create this kind of habit or or change
- 52:08Speaker 1: a bad habit. So number one, it's just defining what
- 52:11Speaker 1: behavior is you want changed. So you want to, you know,
- 52:14Speaker 1: start shooting your bowl more consistently. You want to develop
- 52:17Speaker 1: a habit or on shooting your bow and somehow find
- 52:18Speaker 1: a way to fit that into the chaos. So the
- 52:21Speaker 1: number one thing would do is is define it, and
- 52:23Speaker 1: then you've got to figure out what's the trigger. So
- 52:26Speaker 1: habits come in. There's there's three steps in a habit.
- 52:29Speaker 1: If like when people actually break this down for research
- 52:31Speaker 1: and stuff, but they found is that there's it's a
- 52:33Speaker 1: three part process. So there's the first part, which is
- 52:36Speaker 1: called the trigger or the queue. This is the thing
- 52:39Speaker 1: that like kicks your mind into autopilot. And what it's
- 52:42Speaker 1: interestingly people have done these studies where they put up
- 52:45Speaker 1: um receptors on different people's brains and actually watch how
- 52:50Speaker 1: brain waves change as people go throughout their daily lives,
- 52:53Speaker 1: and researchers specifically trying to study habits see that there
- 52:58Speaker 1: is the spike and brain activity once a trigger happens.
- 53:02Speaker 1: So we'll say, um, maybe a hypothetical snare might be
- 53:07Speaker 1: someone who has a habit of drinking that pepsi on
- 53:09Speaker 1: their way to work. So the trigger is that they
- 53:12Speaker 1: are about to walk out to the car and they
- 53:14Speaker 1: know that before they get to the car they always
- 53:15Speaker 1: grab pepsi. So there's this trigger, and then there's the reward.
- 53:18Speaker 1: The reward is that first wig of pepsi, that bubble
- 53:22Speaker 1: ly carbonation and the sugar hit and all that great stuff.
- 53:25Speaker 1: That's the reward. So there's the trigger, there's the behavior
- 53:28Speaker 1: or the routine, and then there's the reward. So the
- 53:31Speaker 1: key to changing habit number one what these folks says,
- 53:33Speaker 1: you need to identify what those things are if you
- 53:36Speaker 1: have a bad habit, or you need to create those
- 53:38Speaker 1: things if you're trying to create a habit. So we'll say,
- 53:41Speaker 1: in your case, you want to shoot your more often
- 53:45Speaker 1: the trigger. There's got to be something that's gonna trigger
- 53:47Speaker 1: you to remember when you need to do it, Like,
- 53:49Speaker 1: developing that system is the way to do this. So
- 53:52Speaker 1: for me, I've struggled with the same thing where I
- 53:54Speaker 1: will push off the shooting that bow. I won't get
- 53:57Speaker 1: too as often as they want to, or if it's
- 53:59Speaker 1: two incon convenient, it becomes outside of you know, the
- 54:03Speaker 1: realm of my daily life, then I just don't end
- 54:05Speaker 1: up falling through. So when I've done a good job
- 54:07Speaker 1: of this what I started doing because I would actually
- 54:10Speaker 1: put the bow in my mudroom right by um the door,
- 54:14Speaker 1: so that I would actually see it before I stepped out,
- 54:16Speaker 1: And I used, I don't do this right now. I
- 54:18Speaker 1: do it now in my barn. But I used to
- 54:20Speaker 1: have my bow hanging up right next to the door,
- 54:23Speaker 1: and then I had a target right outside of the door,
- 54:26Speaker 1: on the side of the barn, so I would as
- 54:28Speaker 1: I walk out the door to go do something, if
- 54:30Speaker 1: I went in there to get some something for some reason,
- 54:32Speaker 1: I'd see the bow and then it triggers, oh, hey,
- 54:34Speaker 1: shoot that bow, and then right then I could go ahead,
- 54:37Speaker 1: open the door, shoot three arrows and get that kind
- 54:41Speaker 1: of developed that habit, just something to trigger your brain
- 54:44Speaker 1: remember to do this, and then you kind of have
- 54:46Speaker 1: that basic routine. Then the key is then some kind
- 54:48Speaker 1: of reward um. So you can kind of flub this,
- 54:52Speaker 1: you can make it your own reward, or sometimes there's
- 54:54Speaker 1: a natural reward um. So then it's just knowing what
- 54:57Speaker 1: that feels like. So maybe in your case, you at
- 55:00Speaker 1: your bow somewhere that you're gonna see it and remember, Okay,
- 55:02Speaker 1: every morning at six thirty am, when I walk out,
- 55:05Speaker 1: I wake up, I walk out, take a piss, and
- 55:07Speaker 1: then I'm gonna see my bow sitting over top of
- 55:11Speaker 1: the refrigerator or something, so that before I can go
- 55:13Speaker 1: and grab my iced coffee or whatever I want to
- 55:17Speaker 1: eat for breakfast, I'm gonna see the bow right there,
- 55:19Speaker 1: which is gonna cue me to say, hey, before you
- 55:20Speaker 1: can eat breakfast, you have to shoot your bow ten times,
- 55:23Speaker 1: so you grab that bow, you step outside, you shoot
- 55:26Speaker 1: ten times, and then you've got to give yourself a reward.
- 55:29Speaker 1: So maybe that reward is just gonna be some sense
- 55:32Speaker 1: of self satisfaction, or maybe you tie the reward if
- 55:35Speaker 1: you can't drink your coffee until after you shoot your bow.
- 55:38Speaker 1: So now you're forcing yourself. You're reminded right away with
- 55:41Speaker 1: that trigger when you walk to the freezer, you shoot
- 55:43Speaker 1: your bow, and then you get the reward of drinking
- 55:46Speaker 1: your coffee. Studies that have shown if you can do
- 55:48Speaker 1: something like that about two months, sixty six days of
- 55:51Speaker 1: the number I saw, if you can do something sixty
- 55:54Speaker 1: six times consistently, it will move from a behavior that
- 55:59Speaker 1: you are actively thinking about to becoming ingrained and your
- 56:02Speaker 1: body just wants to do it, and you build that momentum,
- 56:04Speaker 1: so then you get the snowball effect, but it's the
- 56:06Speaker 1: positive snowball effect. So you're gonna get up and you're like,
- 56:09Speaker 1: okay to do it. Do it, and then you get
- 56:11Speaker 1: your coffee. And so by putting that kind of thing
- 56:14Speaker 1: in a period of your day where you do have
- 56:16Speaker 1: control and then developing a system around it, supposedly this
- 56:21Speaker 1: is the way you can start incorporating these good things
- 56:23Speaker 1: into your life. So I think you could do that
- 56:24Speaker 1: with shooting your bow. I think someone could do that
- 56:27Speaker 1: by with like I'm what I'm trying to do is
- 56:29Speaker 1: get back to my running habit. So for me with
- 56:32Speaker 1: my running habit, and what I'm trying to do now
- 56:34Speaker 1: is my queue in the morning so that I can't
- 56:37Speaker 1: ignore it, so that it just becomes part of my thing.
- 56:39Speaker 1: Is I put my running shoes out right next to
- 56:41Speaker 1: the door, so I walk out in the morning, take
- 56:44Speaker 1: a leak, and then when I want to go to
- 56:46Speaker 1: my office, instead of walking in my office, my running
- 56:48Speaker 1: shoes are sitting right there. So it's just that big
- 56:50Speaker 1: quel it boom. Gotta get your running habit and get
- 56:53Speaker 1: that and then after that and then I can eat
- 56:55Speaker 1: my breakfast. Um. So that's kind of this system that
- 56:59Speaker 1: people are talking about that's supposed we can help you
- 57:02Speaker 1: create these new positive habits. So I think you know,
- 57:05Speaker 1: there's these things that applied to us as in preparation
- 57:07Speaker 1: for hunting. Um or you might have a bad habit.
- 57:10Speaker 1: And the big thing with people have bad habits. Let's
- 57:14Speaker 1: I don't know what that might be in the hunting context. Um,
- 57:16Speaker 1: but I'm sure there's lots of bad habits we have.
- 57:18Speaker 1: Like the bad habit maybe is procrastinating on getting all
- 57:21Speaker 1: your tree stamp prep done or whatever. Right, So, what
- 57:25Speaker 1: they're saying the key thing to do here is is
- 57:26Speaker 1: too again identify that the three parts of your habit.
- 57:29Speaker 1: So try to figure out what's the trigger, what's queuing
- 57:32Speaker 1: my bad behavior, what is this thing that I'm always
- 57:34Speaker 1: doing this routine? And then finally, what's the reward I get? Um. So,
- 57:40Speaker 1: what they what the researchers have found is that it's very,
- 57:43Speaker 1: very hard to change a trigger and a reward. What
- 57:49Speaker 1: you want to do is you want to keep the
- 57:50Speaker 1: same trigger, keep the same reward, change the routine in
- 57:53Speaker 1: the middle. So we'll go back to the pepsi drinking thing.
- 57:57Speaker 1: It's really hard to change the bad thing you're drinking
- 58:01Speaker 1: on the way to work if you just try to
- 58:02Speaker 1: up and change it. But if you were to try
- 58:04Speaker 1: to change that habit by having the same trigger. So
- 58:07Speaker 1: in the same trigger, let's say you're walking out, you're
- 58:09Speaker 1: gonna go to the fridge because that's what we always do.
- 58:12Speaker 1: You're gonna get that trigger. The routine is what you
- 58:15Speaker 1: can change. So in the middle change the routine from
- 58:17Speaker 1: grabbing the pepsi to now instead you're gonna grab the
- 58:19Speaker 1: sparkling water. Let's say that's the healthier alternative. And then
- 58:22Speaker 1: you're gonna get the same reward though, because it's got
- 58:24Speaker 1: that same fizziness and it's got a little bit of
- 58:26Speaker 1: sweetness to it. So those are like ways to make
- 58:29Speaker 1: up change in your life that makes it easier try
- 58:31Speaker 1: to get something as the same reward, the same queue,
- 58:33Speaker 1: just that better middle per um. So I'm thinking like
- 58:37Speaker 1: there's ways to apply that into what we do as hunters,
- 58:41Speaker 1: Like when you're in tree, when you're in the tree stand.
- 58:43Speaker 1: Here's a bad habit of mine. I sit in the
- 58:45Speaker 1: tree stand. I found this out a couple of years
- 58:47Speaker 1: ago when one night I decided to go out there.
- 58:49Speaker 1: And now I do this more often. I'll just turn
- 58:51Speaker 1: my phone off and put in my backpack, don't have
- 58:55Speaker 1: my phone at all with me in the tree stand.
- 58:57Speaker 1: What I discovered that I did is that I'd be
- 58:59Speaker 1: sitting there, I do a scan, look around, look around,
- 59:02Speaker 1: and then I had this like I had no control
- 59:05Speaker 1: over my hand just would go to the pocket and
- 59:07Speaker 1: I was gonna grab my phone out and look at it,
- 59:09Speaker 1: and I didn't even think about it, just happened. I
- 59:11Speaker 1: had this compulsion, and then I kept realizing, Oh, I
- 59:14Speaker 1: don't have my phone. And then ten minutes later I
- 59:16Speaker 1: would reach my phone and I was like, oh, I
- 59:17Speaker 1: don't have my phone. And then fift two minutes later,
- 59:20Speaker 1: two minutes later, reached my phone. Oh I don't have
- 59:22Speaker 1: my phone. And I realized that this horrible habit of
- 59:25Speaker 1: like getting so easily distracted when'm hunting by my phone.
- 59:29Speaker 1: So I imagine that's something that you could probably change that.
- 59:32Speaker 1: You could find something. You've got this trigger that is, hey,
- 59:36Speaker 1: I need something to distract me or something, and then
- 59:39Speaker 1: the reward is you get some tiny little distraction. Um.
- 59:42Speaker 1: But the bad routine in the middle was looking at
- 59:44Speaker 1: my phone. UM. I don't know what this would be,
- 59:47Speaker 1: but maybe there'd be some different thing. Maybe you could
- 59:49Speaker 1: have like a little stress ball or something in your hand,
- 59:52Speaker 1: in your pocket, and then when you typically would try
- 59:54Speaker 1: to go and grab your phone because you've looked around
- 59:56Speaker 1: for ten ntes, I haven't seen anything. Instead of doing that,
- 59:59Speaker 1: you just add a little fiddle gadget or your a
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: little stress ball or whatever, and that's the little thing
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: that takes your mind off the monotonate for comments, and
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: then you're back at it. Um. I think that's how
- 1:00:10Speaker 1: you could start implementing this kind of system, UM to
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: deal with various things in your in your hunting world too. UM.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: I don't know, does any of that resonator makes sense? Yeah? Man,
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: it does. UM, I get that. I get that same
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: kind of thing where you know, when I'm closing, I
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: hunt closer to my house as opposed to my main farm.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: My main farm, I don't get like three g or
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: four g or anything down in there, so I don't
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: have that problem, right, I get like one bar, two bars.
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: I basically get enough h enough I guess coverage to
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: where if I kill a deer then or shooted ere,
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I can call even if the call gets dropped. Uh,
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: people know that I've killed a deer, right so, because
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: I don't call people when it's when I'm hunting, right So,
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: so I don't typically have that problem. It's just man,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: My big problem is when chaos, Like I have my path,
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: but when chaos enters it, and I don't know, that's
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: something I work on every single day. Yeah, there was
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: UM this book I was reading by a guy named
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Tim Ferris, who, um, kind of this is his big
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: main stick is that he does. He's got one of
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: the most highly listen to podcasts out there, a lot
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: of very successful books. Um, it's all about analyzing these
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: top performers. So he's kind of doing exactly what we're
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: talking about. And one of his big takeaways, one of
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: the big kind of rules coming out of all these
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: different interviews he did with all these different people, was
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: that the basically he says, he's this quote that he
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: said is do not work more to fix, overwhelm, prioritize.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: So it's just like what you're talking about, Like, if
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: you're overwhelmed with chaos, if there's just too much going on,
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: very often, the solution to that isn't by just like
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: trying to do more and more and more and more.
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: Very oftentimes, the best way to deal with that is
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: the prioritization. UM. And I feel like that applies exactly
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: to what you're saying. It's like, figure out a way
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: to to rank order things and then push stuff up
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: on that list if it's typically getting getting knocked off.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: I think that's that's kind of the big thing he saw.
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: And then the other thing for me I always remind
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: myself and this is more of like when I'm dealing
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: with a big project versus like lots and lots of
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: little things. But whenever I'm dealing with a big project,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: I always remember that old adage that you know, how
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: do you eat how do you eat an elephant? Or
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: how do you eat a whale or something? Bike? BikeE
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: by bite? So just like little step, little step, little step. Um.
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: So that's that's how I've been trying to approach the
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: big stuff. But but yeah, it's it's also frustrating. And
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: this is where and I think a lot of guys,
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: you know, what would you say the breakdown for the
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: demographic of men versus women for this podcast like men
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: five percent women or is it more like? Okay, so
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: of the men on this podcast, whether your your wife
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: is a hunter or she's not, I'm just gonna say
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: a majority of them are men, right, So I don't know,
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: or maybe a woman can relate to this too, I
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: don't know. Um, I better just stop talking before I
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: dig a hole. Anyway, Anyway, what I what I got
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: it is okay, So to to to do this passion
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: that we have takes time, right, and if I'm doing that,
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: that means my wife is with the kids. If I'm
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: in this office working, um my wife is with the kids,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: right because we're not in daycare. We don't have daycare anymore.
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: If I'm doing something related to my business or my
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: um hobby, which is now this big gray area, um
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: my wife is with the kids. And I know that
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: spending time with my kids can be very frustrating. Because
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: I now spend time with the kids, I have to
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: figure out a way to like I don't necessarily want
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: to say train her or like help her, or I
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: don't like I don't know how to do this without
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: like I'm gone. She has to be with the kids.
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: And when she's with the kids, then she's frustrating, Like
- 1:04:33Speaker 1: she gets frustrated. So I don't know. I'm trying to
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: find out what I need to do so she's less frustrated,
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: to make things less frustrating for her when I'm not
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: in the picture. Okay, so you need to do is
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: you need to develop a habit for your wife by
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: establishing a que when you leave to go hunting, starts
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: routeam and then there's a reward when you get back,
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: so then she starts having a positive association with you
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: being gone for hunting. No, I know what you mean,
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: um man. You know. The only other thing, like, the
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: only the thought that comes to my mind as I
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: think about the same challenge that I've had to a
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: degree is um is efficiency. It's like, how do I
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: cut out the other fat because I don't want to
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: cut out the importance of the family time and my
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: family obligations, and I don't want to cut out the
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: important uh you know, hunting work related obligations. But I'm
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: finding myself I don't time to do it all or
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: make a sacrifice where I don't want to make sacrifices
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: what I've tried to do and not that I've figured
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: this out at all completely, but the the what I've
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: been trying is finding out where to trim things up elsewhere,
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: Like where's the other stuff that doesn't really matter to me?
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: But I spend time, um just because as a habit
- 1:05:48Speaker 1: that I could cut so I don't need to watch
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: Netflix for an hour on a Thursday. I don't need
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: to look at my phone for twenty minutes here in
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: twenty minutes that in twenty minutes here if you if
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: you add it up, all the time you looked at
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: Facebook or Instagram or read news articles throughout a day,
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: that might be an hour of time if you took
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: every five minutes and ten minutes and three minutes and
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: added it all up. So it's like I've been trying
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: to fare out ways to to free up chunks of
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: time by cutting out the small stuff and like just
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: being more efficient with my time because one of my
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: kind of like you just said and me and my
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: wife just talking about this, one of my big challenges
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: is that I oh over commit, Like I'm always too
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: many projects, too many things, too many goals, too much
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: I'm trying to do. I'm constantly running behind, I'm constantly
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: feeling overwhelmed, them constantly too busy. Uh, And it's it's,
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: you know, number one, I could be doing a better
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: prior job prioritizing number two. Maybe from the front end,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: I should be doing a better job of understanding what
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: I'm saying yes to. But once you're committed to stuff,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: you're committed to stuff. At that point then it's like,
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: just have to use your time better, Like I just
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: need to figure out what better way to cut the
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: junk out there, because they're like, I'm not I don't
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: think any of us are on task every second, Like
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: no one's perfect like that. But maybe I could get
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: half hour better every day, or maybe I could find
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: ways to you know, remove some other bad Habit might
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: maybe it's trying to think to myself, what do I do? Um,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: I don't know, it's right, right, there's a great example.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: There's an hour a week, Um, you could cut that
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: really in the long scheme of things. Is that really
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: going to change your life? Now? Like it's so good?
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: But there's an easy you know, there's an easy six
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: hours over the next six weeks that you could have
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: back to work on your big deer hunting project, to
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: work on a big job project, or to to do
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: the important thing that your wife really wants to get
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: done around the house, to make your feel a little
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: bit better about you know, us going off and doing
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: our thing. So there's probably if we if if I'm guessing,
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: if each one of us sat down for twenty minutes
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: now and just kind of thought through our day and
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: wrote down a list of like little things we do
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: that don't really matter but we just always do, we
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: could probably find some time to do things the way
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: we really should. That's Uh, that's one thing to think about. Um,
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: you know the what are we talked about here? We've
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: talked about creating habits. We talked about changing habits. We
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: talked about the importance of setting goals and being able
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: to quantify and track them. Talked about having accountability partners.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: We've talked about some of these habits, how you might
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: be able to establish a practicing with your bell habit
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: or running habit. Um talked about some of these struggles
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: we've had balancing time between family obligations and our passion. Um,
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: what do you think Dan about you and me trying
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: to take on a change like this, each of us
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: in our own lives, and hold each other accountable to it,
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: and then like report back and and try to demo
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: something like this for folks and see if we can
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: do it. Yeah, man, I'm down. What do you want
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: to do? Do you want to do the bow? Because
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: I need to do better there too. Do we want
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: to try to put together something in place that we
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: can need to do and try to stick to. Well,
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: I think I think a lot of these things come right.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Like also with lean manufacturing, we do something called a
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: five Y right And we talked about I wrote an
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: article about this a while ago. But it's about, Okay,
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: why didn't I shoot my bow? And then you ask
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: yoursel and then you answer that question because I didn't
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: have time. Why didn't you have time? Well, because I was.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: You know, life is kaok why is it chaotic? Well,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: it's because you know whatever, And you go back five
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: times and and this is to help find a rick
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: cause to your problem. Right, So my goal is to
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: do something like this, And I don't know if we
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: can necessarily I can necessarily do it right now, but
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: I want to be able to. I think if why
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: if I find the root cause, it clears up much
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: more than me finding time. It's going to allow me
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: to be more efficient in my work week, it's going
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: to be it's gonna allow me to be more efficient
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: with my family. And so my goal, what I want
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: to do is try to figure out what I need
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: to do. And this might just be a conversation I
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: have with her about what I need to do. What
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: a conversation with my wife to make my wife less stressful?
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: And yeah, I don't know, like something like that. I
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: like it. What about this? What if we both think
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: about what we wanted things to be. You can do
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: some exploring and maybe talk with talk to your wife,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: figure out try to figure out the root cause when
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: we come back for the next podcast together, let's both
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: have like one thing that we both want to do
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: better or different and will make an agreement between each
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: of us, like here's the thing we're just gonna do,
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: here's how we're gonna do it, and and you and
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: me we can try to keep each other accountable on
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: it throughout the rest of the year. Right is that's
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: not a good plan? Cool? We can try to we
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: can try to demo some of these ideas we're talking
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: about here, and uh, maybe you can you and I
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: can both get better at something near and and maybe
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: help folks see how they can incorporate some some possible
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: positive change into their hunting life as well. And uh,
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: it might be fun. So anything else on this topic
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: you want to make sure we hit on before U
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: before we wrap it up. No, I'm good man? All right?
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: Well then, um, I think we should just shut it
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: down and then check back in soon. And that's gonna
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: do it for us today. Hope you enjoyed this one.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: You know, if you were interested in this topic, there's
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: a couple of books that I've read that that I
- 1:11:46Speaker 1: found pretty handy. I mentioned Tim Ferris. He's got a
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: book called The Tools of Titans and another one called
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: Tribe of Mentors, both of which um combine a whole
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: bunch of different answers to questions related to these topics
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: from areas high performers that Tim has interviewed. They're great resources.
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: I also referenced a couple of books by Charles do Hig.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: There's one called The Power of Habits and there's another
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: one called what is It Smarter, Faster, Better? Both of
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: these talk about habits and different um, different types of
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: processes and things you can do to become a higher achiever,
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: high performer, the kind of stuff that we're trying to
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: do here as hunters. So lots more out there on
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: the innert to lots of good podcasts. Um. Tim Ferris
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: show again is a good one along those lines. So
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: I hope you enjoyed it, Hope you found this interesting,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: and maybe you'll try incorporating a few things into your
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: own uh, you know, schedule. Try it out, let us
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: know what you think, and until next time, thanks for
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: being you, Thanks for foulling Wired to Hunt and stay
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: wired to hunt,
