- 0:24Hello and welcome back to the Easy Level Podcast, episode 41.
- 0:29We're recording on our Sunday evening slot, so hopefully this
- 0:33comes out nice and early and people won't be waiting all week
- 0:36to listen to it. So I'm joined, as always by Dean
- 0:40Menzies up the road in Perth. How are you doing?
- 0:44Back, little warm, but doing well.
- 0:46Yeah, just had to whack my air con on because I was worried
- 0:49about the sweat glistening off my forehead during this record.
- 0:53Make sure that Instagram snip looks the part.
- 0:57And then quite contrary to how our Irishman's doing over there,
- 1:01I imagine. How are you, Owen?
- 1:03Yeah, guys, it's it's gone awful cold over here even though
- 1:07during the week got a bit humid for like 2 days.
- 1:10Like I went out for a run on a Wednesday on a parent for the
- 1:12worst and then I was like sweating my ass off.
- 1:16It was like really humid. But it's got it's after getting
- 1:18cold again. So yeah, it's no fun over here.
- 1:22Snow where you live? You can get sometimes it does
- 1:26because like it rains so much when it gets to a certain
- 1:29temperature, that rain obviously turns to snow.
- 1:33So yeah, I don't know if it will snow this year.
- 1:37It's weird. Now, I think like global warming
- 1:39is actually real because I feel like now we get like two
- 1:42different extremes. Like during the summer, it
- 1:44actually gets pretty warm and we can get like pretty like cold
- 1:47winters now. So yeah, I don't know if it's
- 1:50forecast for the coming weeks, but we might get a bit of snow.
- 1:54And I don't know about by you, but by like where I come from,
- 1:59if it snows, although it like only ever gets like an inch or
- 2:02two and then just tends to sleet instantly because we're like
- 2:05coastal, it hardly ever sticks. It still causes chaos and like
- 2:09schools or clothes and all this. Whereas like in America it can
- 2:14snow like 3/4 and they just get the snow plows out and get on
- 2:17with it. Yeah.
- 2:19We don't have the facilities for that over here either.
- 2:21It's just, yeah, sleet. It just causes chaos on the
- 2:24roads. Well, I hope for your sake that
- 2:27the the roads don't get too icy because Young got your treadmill
- 2:30back up and running, no? But this week I am actually got
- 2:36a gym membership so I'll try about that during my week but
- 2:40I'm I think I've got that stuff covered now.
- 2:43Who's the lucky franchise? Oh, just this small one.
- 2:47I was actually going to buy a treadmill off this guy and but
- 2:50like again, it's going to cost like 5 grand, like 3 1/2 to 5
- 2:53grand for a new one or a good second hand 1.
- 2:56So I was like hmm, well I just pay like £40 a month for like 3
- 3:00or 4 months or cough out a couple of grand for a treadmill.
- 3:03And like just my current financial situation is, I think
- 3:07the £40 a month is a better, better financial choice.
- 3:11May even encourage you to do like some strength work whilst
- 3:13you're in there too so it could be a little bonus.
- 3:16I'm sort of good with the strength work.
- 3:18I just, I just said I do on a Wednesday on a Thursday with my
- 3:21coach. So I'll probably just stick to I
- 3:24wish there was a special like thing you could get like just
- 3:27use the treadmill and just get a like get your membership cheaper
- 3:30because I won't use any of the big like weights there.
- 3:33So look, I'm just happy I have a treadmill under my feet now
- 3:37during the week I can use. Speaking of strength work and
- 3:40being committed to it, it's Monday evening tomorrow, isn't
- 3:43it Dean? Yeah mate, look forward to
- 3:46seeing you there like I do every Monday and still haven't seen
- 3:49you once. How many?
- 3:51How long have you been going for now?
- 3:5512 weeks I think. Somehow I've found a way to not
- 3:59get there once. It's you had a busy Monday
- 4:02night, obviously. Always something crops up on a
- 4:06Monday. What is this?
- 4:08I just like a facilitated SNC class on a Monday night.
- 4:13And Ryan doesn't go. That Ryan's encouraged to
- 4:16attend, that often has a conflict.
- 4:19Ryan, get your finger out and go to this shit.
- 4:22It's good for you. Very, very good, very well
- 4:25facilitated. An hour of quality gym work.
- 4:30Yeah, I very much enjoy it. Well, that this, that was part
- 4:35of my reasoning for bringing it up, because now it's on public
- 4:38platform, I have no excuse not to.
- 4:41So I'll see you there tomorrow. He told me the other week to
- 4:46message him on a Monday morning and remind him and then he
- 4:49pinned I think to our group chat the time because I'm not going
- 4:53to message you every Monday. But it's not helped, so maybe
- 4:57this will help. Ryan, what's more important on a
- 5:00Monday night? Monday Night Football if I was
- 5:03living at home, but that's like 4:00 AM.
- 5:05So anyway, let's go into it. We've got the Australian cross
- 5:10country selection trials results, GB announced their team
- 5:14for the European Cross Country Championships on the back of the
- 5:17Liverpool Cross Challenge last week, and we've got a huge
- 5:21Valencia preview as that Valencia marathon is next
- 5:24weekend. So we'll talk about the fields
- 5:26and what we think might happen there.
- 5:29Grand Slam track, we're back in the news this week again,
- 5:32obviously not for positive reasons, surprise, surprise.
- 5:35So we'll speak about that. YouTube Diaries might link into
- 5:38the Valencia preview and I'm sure we'll find the double
- 5:40trouble or two along the way. So on Friday evening, Australia
- 5:46cross country selection trials happened in Stromlo, Canberra in
- 5:50the capital and it was Friday night on the light solo.
- 5:55The sun was still setting. It was kind of like a nice, nice
- 5:58ambience in the in the in the sky.
- 6:02And we found out beforehand because I wouldn't keenly
- 6:06emailed us. Is it athletic Australia or
- 6:09Australian athletics? Now I get mixed up a a either
- 6:12way. They've done a big reround or
- 6:14something, I don't know what is that?
- 6:16I'll look at their Instagram right now.
- 6:19Yeah, make sure we get it right. But they change from one to the
- 6:23other. So anyway, I only emailed them
- 6:26to ask if there was a live stream seen as we were here on
- 6:29last week's record and glow in about how good the live stream
- 6:33would be and kind of plugging it to all the listeners.
- 6:36And then we got a couple of messages on the morning of
- 6:38asking how do we actually watch the live stream.
- 6:40Then seen as users have been speaking about it and
- 6:44coincidentally a A had replied to Owen and just said no live
- 6:49stream. And I'm not sure that kind of
- 6:53formed anything what happened after, but may perhaps another
- 6:57Australian podcast inside running.
- 6:59We're getting the same sorts of questions and luckily for them
- 7:03and luckily for us, they had some feet on the ground over
- 7:06there. So they managed to actually go
- 7:09live on Instagram and provide an unofficial stream, which was
- 7:14quite fun to be fair. Because besides actually being
- 7:18able to watch the race through the Instagram Live, people in
- 7:21the comments whilst watching it were also like kind of
- 7:24commenting on the race and like things they were watching
- 7:26unfold. So it was, it was proper like
- 7:29grassroots stuff, but it just shows that there's such a kind
- 7:33of low bar or low expectancy for these live streams when
- 7:37something like that, someone running around with the phone on
- 7:40course is received so well because literally all's we want
- 7:43is to be able to see what's happening.
- 7:45And I think it was Croaks. He was running around with his
- 7:48phone and going from kind of like 9:50 and following the
- 7:53action as it unfolded. I was kind of in and out of it
- 7:57because it was 4:15 PM on Friday for us and I was still in the
- 8:01office so was trying not to just be sat there on my phone
- 8:05blatantly, but you know, these things call.
- 8:08So anyway, what happened was Cameron Myers kicked past Seth
- 8:12O'Donnell right on the end to take victory in 2943, Seth being
- 8:18just behind him. 2944 after making a big move with perhaps
- 8:223K to go. Seth was kind of like 5 to 10
- 8:26meters off the front of the group and in that group behind
- 8:29was Morgan McDonald who ended up finishing third in 2947.
- 8:34Ed Marks was fourth in 2950, Isaac Haim 5th 2958 and Tom
- 8:39Dicanto 6th in 3012. So the reason why I read 6
- 8:44results out there is because the team to go to Florida for the
- 8:48world cross country is comprised of six people.
- 8:52Now ironically not that that means that the top 6 here will
- 8:57make up that team. So what they've done so far is
- 9:01they've confirmed that Seth O'Donnell is a lock and that
- 9:04Morgan MacDonald is a lock because Cam Myers, despite
- 9:08winning the race, has said that he wants to compete in the two
- 9:12by two mixed relay. So two men, two women, therefore
- 9:17opening up another spot and also allowing the third place
- 9:21finisher in the race, Morgan McDonald, to be guaranteed a
- 9:24spot. So the top 2 are guaranteed
- 9:27before I read the women's results.
- 9:29Any comments on that boys? Yeah, So I actually tuned in at
- 9:33like just the right time. I tuned in and set.
- 9:37I think they're in a bunch and then set.
- 9:38McDonald made a break and I think he'd like 50 meters on
- 9:42them. And then Croaks was running
- 9:46across by. He was puffing hard now, poor
- 9:48Croaks. I don't know how much fitness
- 9:51he's capped, but he was working hard to run across the course.
- 9:55And then, yeah, I'd say, what, 800 meters to go?
- 9:58And like, Cam Myers was still way back and I'd say he made-up
- 10:04like 30 meters in the last 800 meters.
- 10:07And he kicked so hard to kick past.
- 10:10I think he was like 4th or 5th and he, yeah, he pulled them all
- 10:14back in. But like you sort of have, you'd
- 10:17have to burn him off fairly well.
- 10:19Like he's kick would be outrageous.
- 10:22So yeah, Cam Myers kicked hard, but the two boys that you took
- 10:27would have been favorites to win it.
- 10:29Yeah, and we all tipped have to, didn't we?
- 10:32But he was a DNS. Yeah, I think in the end that
- 10:35tipping you got also allocated also allocated Cam Myers didn't
- 10:40yet or no, but yeah, because we're saying have to.
- 10:42And then I was like, no, we can't all go the same person.
- 10:45So you you can claim the winner there.
- 10:48Yeah, if I was allowed my tip I would have got it wrong, but I'm
- 10:51glad I had to had to change it. Although a bit of a turn around
- 10:54from like say the 5K where remember we watched it run the
- 11:00national 5K champs when it was Seth and Kyle Robinson that were
- 11:04too strong and they sort of kicked away from Cam.
- 11:07Cam didn't seemingly have the strength to hang like the middle
- 11:11distance strength to hang with those guys.
- 11:12Whereas yeah, he must be getting fitter and fitter and home
- 11:17ground advantage must have helped as well.
- 11:20He actually referenced that in his in his interview because
- 11:23that that was kind of another thing what they'd done on the
- 11:25live stream. Crokes is just bouncing up to
- 11:27them all with his phone at the end and saying, do you mind
- 11:30doing an interview? And it's the most informal thing
- 11:33ever, But it's exactly what you need, like just someone asking
- 11:37the athletes questions immediately after they finished.
- 11:39And Cam says, I thought I was done with like 3.5 K to go.
- 11:45But because I've run here so often and know where all the
- 11:47markers are on the course and I was literally just counting them
- 11:50down, counting them down and making sure that like I just
- 11:54kind of stayed in it. But I reckon from Seth's point
- 11:57of view, he must have thought he'd done enough.
- 11:59Because like you would assume if you can gap the short distance
- 12:04guy, then he's gone and he's not coming back.
- 12:07And Cam must have, he must have thought that at some point
- 12:09himself and then he's just found it within him to get back on.
- 12:13And they similarly they asked Seth like like do you think you
- 12:17made your move too early or do you think you've done anything
- 12:20wrong type of thing? And he was like, Nah, it's like
- 12:23it's what I plan to do. And like I thought I'd done it
- 12:25pretty well and Cam was just better than me basically.
- 12:29But you are right to draw comparison to that 5K where he
- 12:33couldn't get back on and now this is 10K so shows.
- 12:37So with this team, you think Cam Cam Myers goes for the relay and
- 12:42then you just throw Kai Robinson in if he puts his name forward
- 12:45and then that's your 6. You would think so, although
- 12:50they did, they have. So for the places that aren't
- 12:55allocated via the top 2 guaranteed they've offered some
- 13:00like kind of framework if you like, as in like time standard.
- 13:06So for the men, they've said 29 minutes flat or better and
- 13:11they've given a qualification period of since the 1st of May
- 13:162025. So they're basically saying that
- 13:19people need to have run a good 10K since May, which obviously
- 13:23given that the world champs happened in September.
- 13:26And unless you're running the 10K at world champs, you're not
- 13:29really going to be running 10 KS during that period is a bit of a
- 13:34mad window. So I was kind of looking at it
- 13:38in terms of like who's run what since then?
- 13:41Because so you've got I was when I was looking at, I reckon Ed
- 13:48Marks and Isaac Kane definitely keep their place because Isaac
- 13:56Kane has run the third fastest 10K of all Australians during
- 14:00that period, as well as his 5th place finish here.
- 14:04So he's run 2815. So I think he's a lock because
- 14:08of that. And then Ed Marks, so he's
- 14:11finished fourth here. So obviously that's top six.
- 14:16And he's also ran 2837 for the 7th fastest time during this
- 14:21qualification period. So that then leaves me to
- 14:26believe that the spot that Cam Myers has vacated and
- 14:31potentially unfortunately, the 6th place spot of Tom Dicanto is
- 14:36potentially like up for debate via the selectors discretionary
- 14:40decisions. And who knows, they may say,
- 14:44yeah, Tom finished top 6 so he takes that space.
- 14:49But knowing how these things tend to go, I would be surprised
- 14:53if that was the case because otherwise they would just have a
- 14:56pure selection, race and outline.
- 14:58Top 6 go. And you also have like, Sam
- 15:01Clifford to pop popped into this, like if I don't know
- 15:05what's happening with him, if he's injured or not, but surely
- 15:07he's another name that can go into the hat.
- 15:10So that's the thing, it depends on these people who like he's
- 15:14got the national record on the roads.
- 15:16So like if him or Jack Rayner put the hand up and say like,
- 15:19hey, I wouldn't mind doing that. By the way, do they then take
- 15:23one of these spots? Because the selectors have kind
- 15:25of given themselves an out in being able to slot them in by
- 15:29basically saying only the top 2 are guaranteed.
- 15:32Which you would you would hate to.
- 15:35As much as you want to have your best team there, you also want
- 15:38the people who've gone and ran the trial to be rewarded because
- 15:42otherwise like literally what's the point of having it?
- 15:44You might as well just have 6 discretionary places.
- 15:47Yeah, surely there's a lot of like weight given to the people
- 15:54that ran the trials, like particularly if you're
- 15:57Australian based, Like putting aside perhaps Kyle Robinson, who
- 16:00has to travel halfway across the world, but Morgan McDonald still
- 16:04made the trip out. Like you just think those people
- 16:08should be. There should be a very strong
- 16:10case to argue against people that didn't make the trials,
- 16:14like were they injured or like why didn't they make the effort
- 16:17to race if they really want to Rep, you know, represent in a in
- 16:20a month's time, a few weeks time.
- 16:23Yeah, there's arguments to be had everywhere.
- 16:25So like all the guys who are going to Valencia, they will
- 16:28obviously say, well, I didn't race because I had Valencia
- 16:31Marathon. But then you could also say,
- 16:34well, that's because you're doing that in your personal
- 16:37interests. Like you've chosen to prioritize
- 16:39run the first time in Valencia, whereas these people have chosen
- 16:43to prioritize trying to qualify for the team, like legitimately.
- 16:46But say in Tom's case, he's he's running Valencia and he still
- 16:50did it. And he beat, yeah.
- 16:54And he and he beat. And it wasn't like Liam Burdon,
- 16:56Tim Vincent, Ed trippers like the the the guys he's beaten as
- 17:00well are all like guys that have just, you know, the odd singlets
- 17:06have just come off the back of very a very good year as well
- 17:09over distances that traditionally cross country and
- 17:12marathon runners are often, you know, go hand in hand.
- 17:16So yeah, you certainly hope that selectors apply, you know, apply
- 17:22the right discretion, the the right weightings to things when
- 17:25they make a decision. Yeah, you would like to think so
- 17:28and particularly in in that case there Brett and have to are also
- 17:33doing Valencia. If like for example one of them
- 17:37said they wanted to do the world cross even though they've got
- 17:41faster times on paper than Tom, you'd like to think they'd still
- 17:44go with Tom given he made the sacrifices to run this trials.
- 17:49And posted the result. Finished top six, yeah.
- 17:54You see in 7th was Dave McNeil, who I thought had effectively
- 17:59retired from running right like. He was off the front in the
- 18:04first Chaos I. Saw that.
- 18:06Yeah, that's cool. Gives me hope.
- 18:08They got those guys a couple of years older than me, so you
- 18:11never know. Just to get yourself done the
- 18:13cross country scene next year. That.
- 18:16Could be where you take your your wins for the women.
- 18:22Then we had Leanne Pompiani won in 3336 from Holly Campbell in
- 18:293420. So big margin of 44 seconds
- 18:33there. So that means those two are also
- 18:35selected. They take up, excuse me, the
- 18:38first two places on the team. Bronte Oates, who won nationals
- 18:42this year, finished third in 3514, so a further 54 seconds
- 18:49behind. Second place then was Caitlin
- 18:51Adams in 4th 3533, Laura Des in 5th 3552 and Ruby Smee in 6th
- 18:593609. So I think as we see in this
- 19:03race on paper was always going to be Leanne's.
- 19:06Now that kind of undermines the fact that she's gone out there
- 19:10and absolutely blitz the field. Huge run from Leanne, but no
- 19:14surprises that she's won. I think that could be her like
- 19:18third. Well, cross country if she makes
- 19:21it there, which is some doing. And in terms of how the women's
- 19:26team might look the rest of it, then given that the top 2 spots
- 19:30are automatic, I think Bronzio to finish third also keeps her
- 19:34place because she won nationals as well.
- 19:36And that's also kind of listed in the criteria in the selection
- 19:40policy as like one of the top considerations, all the
- 19:43performances at national cross country.
- 19:46Then you've got Caitlin Adams, Clara Dess and Ruby Smee.
- 19:51So think Ruby Smee. And she finished fourth in the
- 19:55national cross country as well. So you would like to think given
- 19:58she's finished in the top 6IN selection trials and top 4IN
- 20:02nationals, that would be good enough for her.
- 20:05Caitlin Adams, I don't think ran.
- 20:07The Nationals nor did Clara deaths.
- 20:12So that I'm not saying it means that they won't get their spots,
- 20:16but that just opens up the window for discussion basically,
- 20:21doesn't it? And then after listed or noted
- 20:24other women who have run the unofficial qualification time,
- 20:29which I have stated, which for the women is 30 to 30 or better.
- 20:34So here you've got the likes of Rose Davis, Izzy Beth Doyle,
- 20:38Lauren Ryan, they've all ran sub 32 and well, 3034 for Rose, 3044
- 20:46for Izzy and 3127 for Lauren Ryan.
- 20:50So potentially if though, if any of those girls put their hands
- 20:53up, then they're going to give the selectors a bit of a
- 20:56headache as well. And I'm sure also the girls who
- 20:59finished in the top six, they'll be giving them a headache also.
- 21:02When is world's early January? Yeah.
- 21:06And John like is a is the turn around from Valencia for let's
- 21:09say the likes of Izzy, Is that going to be too close?
- 21:13Perhaps for the likes of anyone but Izzy, yeah.
- 21:17Yeah, she is a freak of nature. And also like given Lauren Ryan,
- 21:22so I was thinking about Pat Tiernan as well, because those
- 21:25two are US based. You might think that they would
- 21:28be interested in doing it, but perhaps wouldn't have been
- 21:31interested, although Morgan McDonald was in travelling back
- 21:34for the trials. So I mean, there's all sorts of
- 21:37dynamics going on, isn't there? Pat Tiernan, like never runs.
- 21:42He gets injured, I think, doesn't he?
- 21:45Yeah, I'd be so frustrated if I was him.
- 21:47Like he actually like, when was his last race would have been
- 21:50Boston, but he didn't. Did he finish that?
- 21:53I think he finished, yeah. He was on the front for a while,
- 21:55wasn't he? And then kind of like an invited
- 21:58commas blew up. We end up running like 2 or 8 or
- 22:00something anyway. Oh, OK, fair enough.
- 22:03But like in enough women's field, like Leanne is just like
- 22:06a cut above them. Like in the race, she just like
- 22:09walked it really. She's just like different levels
- 22:12to the game and like she's, she's up there.
- 22:16It's a shame that there wasn't like the likes of Izzy or anyone
- 22:19else there to kind of see how the race would unfold.
- 22:21But I mean, we don't have to wait much longer to see Izzy
- 22:25running again. So that's another good thing.
- 22:27But yeah, I'm sure, I'm not sure when the team is announced.
- 22:30I assume it you'd like to think it would be like this week
- 22:32coming or something. So eyes peeled for that one.
- 22:36I'm sure they'll be some sort of drama as there usually is, but
- 22:40gives us something to speak about.
- 22:41Following on from that, then the Team GB announced their team for
- 22:45the European cross, which is in Portugal ahead of the world
- 22:49cross. So obviously we had the
- 22:52Liverpool cross challenge last week, which we said was kind of
- 22:55like the selection race for this.
- 22:57And again, the selectors kind of posted a policy which allowed
- 23:01them to select people who didn't race at Liverpool.
- 23:07But the good thing is, at least for the women, the top 6
- 23:11finishers in that race were selected so they've been
- 23:14rewarded for 10 and all Actually I tell like despite the 6th, the
- 23:186th finisher. So the top five of Carrie
- 23:22Hughes, Poppy Tank, Izzy Fry, Phoebe Anderson and Abby
- 23:25Donnelly were all named in the team and they finished top five
- 23:28in the race. The 6th finisher in the race was
- 23:31Verity Ockenden, the girl who Dean and I spoke about being
- 23:34coached by Chris Thompson, so she wasn't selected.
- 23:38However in her place was Megan Keith.
- 23:42Now you can kind of see why given Megan Keith's calibre as
- 23:48she was a top 10 finisher in the 10K in Tokyo, so I imagine
- 23:52Verity herself wouldn't have too many complaints with that and
- 23:55would have kind of probably seen it coming.
- 23:58The weird thing is that I was looking like trying to
- 24:01understand why Megan Keith didn't race that given I
- 24:05remember Owen speaking about the results at Cardiff the other
- 24:08week and like Megan Keith was involved in that.
- 24:10So I was thinking why didn't she race Liverpool?
- 24:13And she raced a cross country race in Spain last weekend.
- 24:16Apparently the Spanish one, the course is going to be like, it's
- 24:21very similar to the course in Portugal.
- 24:25Liverpool is it was pretty mucky and it was like there was hills.
- 24:30Whereas in Portugal is going to be pancake flat on the ground is
- 24:33going to be rock hard and it wasn't probably a higher level.
- 24:36Like you want Nadia Bada cloudy around that one as well.
- 24:40And so you can see where she's coming from.
- 24:43But I still would have rather see her race in in Liverpool
- 24:49with the other girls because like like she a man, Keith is
- 24:52good, but is she that much better than everyone else that
- 24:57she doesn't like? Obviously everyone else would
- 24:59have run that racing in Spain. Was it Spain, like everyone else
- 25:03would have run that race if they had the chance, but they they
- 25:05didn't have the opportunity for that because they have to show
- 25:08UK Athletics that they're good enough.
- 25:11But yeah, some people get special privileges.
- 25:17It you just prefer it so much more, if it was rock up to the
- 25:21trials, perhaps one discretionary spot in case one
- 25:25very solid athlete is injured or sick or something and can't for
- 25:29whatever reason, it would make it so much more exciting for
- 25:32both athletes and spectators on the day and make it so far less
- 25:37ambiguous and political. I I'd like.
- 25:42Yeah. It's why the US selection system
- 25:45seems to be, again, that their trials are always so exciting.
- 25:49The races are so exciting, like these trials where you don't
- 25:52even, they don't necessarily. You're not even sure if you did
- 25:57enough to be excited about. Like you either know you didn't
- 26:02do enough or you might have done enough most of the time.
- 26:05I don't know. Yeah, I agree.
- 26:08I think that having just that one spot where it's potentially
- 26:11open is like the the perfect balance because then say the top
- 26:15five, they know they're in. And then even if you finish in
- 26:17that sixth spot, you hope that you might be in, but you also
- 26:20know you're going to know if like a bloody Josh Kerr or Jake
- 26:24Whiteman's injured and they couldn't run, you're going to
- 26:27know, OK, well, I probably not go and then I'm actually going
- 26:29to put them in my spot. Whereas this it's just all like
- 26:33everyone's on the edge waiting for the decision and always
- 26:36causes bloody arguments or fallouts.
- 26:40But even with the Irish selection so it's 6 for a team
- 26:44and with the senior men I'm probably the women I think.
- 26:47I'm not sure what the women know.
- 26:49Probably is the same actually. Ireland only picked 5.
- 26:54Like in Ireland there's a guy called Hugh Armstrong.
- 26:56He would have finished. He would have been like the 6th
- 26:59senior male across the line. So like he's now not getting a
- 27:04chance even though he he should. So he's the lad who ran the 800
- 27:10meter in worlds and came forth and like fair enough coming
- 27:15forth in worlds 800I. I'd argue that cross country is
- 27:20totally different to 800 meters on the track.
- 27:24Like surely there is going to be milers out there that have
- 27:28proven themselves over cross country that just haven't gotten
- 27:33a chance. Like I'd put money on it that
- 27:35King Mcphillips probably doesn't win a trial race if it was up in
- 27:40Derry in the mock. So yeah, I don't know about the
- 27:47just selectors discretion. It's not really fair.
- 27:51Why wouldn't he do the mixed relay?
- 27:56Kim and Phillips. It is 100m guy, wouldn't you do
- 27:58with the 2K? In So this is for Europeans,
- 28:02Europeans there's a mixed relay. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Sorry, sorry.
- 28:06I should have said let's start. But yeah, I just feel like
- 28:09there's other like miners out there that we better suited to,
- 28:12like they'd have more of a strength base and they'd be
- 28:15better suited to like cross country.
- 28:18Yeah, well, you see it even when some of these 800 guys on the
- 28:21track try and run a 50 in on the track, it's like completely,
- 28:24just completely different, let alone 2K on cross country is
- 28:29even more detached from it. Yeah, so look, it's, I hate when
- 28:35like someone else gets to choose.
- 28:37Like I know it has to be done, but I just hate the top of like
- 28:42someone else deciding another person's future when technically
- 28:45they should like get the chance. Like an Irish fest, like command
- 28:49Hugh Armstrong, like he deserves to run, unlike the likes of the
- 28:54Uruguayan one in the World Championships.
- 28:56I think like every single country should look at that and
- 28:59say you bring a full team. Like no way should she have
- 29:02gotten a medal, but on her day she turned up and anything can
- 29:05happen on the day. So not picking A-Team, you're
- 29:08just eliminating yourself. I'm like, you're guaranteed one
- 29:11of the big guys is going to have an off day.
- 29:13So that's when you need like your 5th and 6th runner that UMM
- 29:17can show up. It's yeah.
- 29:18I just don't like it. Did I see and I can't remember
- 29:22what it was from maybe I think that came Mcphillips as he just
- 29:25done an interview with Sunday podcast or he spoke to someone
- 29:28anyway and he he was talking about goals for next year.
- 29:34Fair play too. Is is pretty aspirational, but
- 29:37they sound like quite out there. So I can't quite compute the 400
- 29:41time, but he he named the A400 time.
- 29:44I don't know what it was or what it means, but he said he also
- 29:48wants to run 331 in the 1500. And then once he's ticked off
- 29:54both of those things, he knows that he can like start dialing
- 29:58in his 800. I was thinking shit like 331 is
- 30:02a bit of a high like base to be setting for himself like so many
- 30:085th like soul 1500 meter runners would strive to be running 331.
- 30:13He's like a not a junior but a breakthrough 800m runner shall
- 30:20we say from this year. Have a fair play to him, be good
- 30:23to see him go and do it like. Like, and I could say I'm going
- 30:27to go out next year and run sub 14 for the 5K, but like, is that
- 30:32a realistic like, stepping stone?
- 30:35Like I feel like I'm jumping a few steps there.
- 30:37Like unfair. Like he had such a good world
- 30:40championship and I wouldn't put it past them.
- 30:42But yeah, I don't know what to make of it.
- 30:46Do you know who his coaches? Yeah, Joe Ryan.
- 30:50He coaches the Saint Cormac Dalton, who came third in
- 30:54nationals. Yeah.
- 30:55Oh, I see them back to the GB teams because in the men's field
- 31:00that there's a little bit of, I don't know if it's caused drama
- 31:03over there or not, but when I was looking at it, I thought
- 31:05straight away, oh shit, that isn't quite black and white.
- 31:09So again, similar set up. The top five have been selected
- 31:14for the team top five finishes, which was Scott BT, Rory
- 31:18Leonard, Richard Slade, Jacob Kahn and Joe Hudson.
- 31:22They're all in now. This guy who finished sixth was
- 31:26a Scottish guy, Logan Reece, and he wasn't selected, but the guy
- 31:30who was selected was a fella called Callum Johnson.
- 31:35And when I kind of looked, I've done a bit of a comparison
- 31:39between the two athletes and Callum Johnson, the guy who has
- 31:43been selected has 10K best this year of 2910 or an overall PB of
- 31:502849. And Logan Reese, who finished
- 31:54sixth in the race has a 10K best this year of 2852, which is 18
- 32:02seconds better than Callum Johnson's best this year and
- 32:05only three seconds behind his all time personal best.
- 32:09And then Logan Reese's personal best is 2814, so a good forty
- 32:16note 35 seconds quicker than Callum Johnson's PB.
- 32:21So it doesn't make for obvious reason reading as to why they've
- 32:25selected him over Logan. The could very well be a clear
- 32:31reason. But when I clicked into the
- 32:34comments on the British Athletics post to try and like
- 32:38gain some clarity or see if people were kicking up a full
- 32:41server, it someone had tagged the Logan Reece guy who hasn't
- 32:46been selected and said like justice for him.
- 32:49So maybe it's not too apparent. I'm, I'm annoyed that I don't
- 32:54have any more context or any more information as to why, but
- 32:58yeah, that's interesting. I think that is the results wrap
- 33:01for this week, so we shall move on to training weeks.
- 33:07We've been starting with Owen for eternity whilst Dean and I
- 33:11haven't been doing too much. So, Dean, would you like to
- 33:15share with us what you've been up to?
- 33:18Sure. Yeah, probably very similar to
- 33:21the last couple of weeks, just with the progression.
- 33:27So I've gone from, you know, 15 minutes 3 weeks ago, twice a day
- 33:32to 20 minutes, sorry, two weeks ago or three weeks ago, however
- 33:36we want to look at it to 20 minutes and then to 30 minutes.
- 33:39So it was 2 by 30 minute runs Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,
- 33:46Friday, Sunday, and then Thursday and a bit of incidental
- 33:51writing on top of that. And then Thursday the interval
- 33:56session on the bike, bike intervals in Kings Park, so
- 34:00hilly intervals. And then Saturday a a longer
- 34:03ride, about 100 KS of three hours.
- 34:07So yeah, feel like I'm moving better in less discomfort as the
- 34:15week's gone on, which is good. Everything mechanically is
- 34:18feeling better and better, which is nice.
- 34:21Yeah. And you can see that my sort of
- 34:23paces and my runs are picking up, which is, which is fun.
- 34:27But yeah, just still ticking, ticking boxes of the, you know,
- 34:31return to to full fitness. Feel like I'm getting a bit more
- 34:34aerobically fit on the bike, which has been really nice.
- 34:37So sort of keeping up a bit easier on the interval session
- 34:40and feeling a bit stronger on the rides.
- 34:43That ride on a Saturday was pretty spicy.
- 34:47We ended up, the group we were with ended up merging with
- 34:50another group that was moving quite quick.
- 34:53So it was a good solid ride, which is good.
- 34:55Those 3 hour rides, good opportunity to suck down a heap
- 34:58of fuel, a heap of bigs product, which is, which is fun.
- 35:04Yeah, sort of what I'm using as my long run equivalent.
- 35:08That goes for about 3 hours or three hours, 15.
- 35:11So it would have been about 6. What did I do?
- 35:166 1/2 hours on the bike and yeah, five hours of running.
- 35:21So yeah, 63 KS of running and about 200 KS on the bike.
- 35:24So good week. Everything's ticking along and
- 35:26some gym, gym work on tops. My fitness feels like it's
- 35:30picking up, which is nice. And the return to, you know, my
- 35:33running is improving. So I just want to keep putting
- 35:36these weeks together and in in increase the load slowly.
- 35:42And are you just going to concentrate on like load or will
- 35:45you put some intensity into that anytime soon?
- 35:49I don't think so. I think I, oh, look, I'm, I, I
- 35:53think it won't be until at least I'm running like an hour
- 35:57continuously before I do any, any sort of intensity.
- 36:00I think so is my guess, but I don't know.
- 36:03I just get the program sort of a week at a time and sort of
- 36:08taking feedback from Steve, Tim, RAF, everyone that I'm speaking
- 36:14to. But I think directionally
- 36:17everything's feeling good. I feel like I'm getting, I feel
- 36:20like I'm moving well. And directionally, this is
- 36:25definitely like where I was two weeks ago to where I am today.
- 36:29Feels so much better. So I'll take that.
- 36:31And it's getting pretty hot and I feel like I'm getting a bit
- 36:35out of the the runs. I did my afternoon ride with
- 36:40Aurora on the bike today and so she did well to keep up with
- 36:45that and I was trying to sting her up a few of the heels.
- 36:47So I'm definitely getting a bit edgy because I was trying to.
- 36:49Are you trying? To wouldn't be like it.
- 36:55I was just about to ask and like now that you kind of getting
- 36:59back into some longer, shall we say, runs like how is the itch
- 37:04to kind of like stop pushing the boundary and all this sort of
- 37:07stuff. And then you kind of answered
- 37:08that for me. Yeah, now I just want to bury
- 37:10every run, but I'm. And so yeah, I was like, do I?
- 37:14Do I sort of punch into the wind to really try and take the legs
- 37:17out from underneath her or where do I?
- 37:23And when you mentioned paces, what sort of pace are you
- 37:26talking? Like 420 pace around that sort
- 37:31of pace. Yeah, because I was experiencing
- 37:34similar. Well, you highlighted that like
- 37:35my first one minute intervals, like why was I running like 4
- 37:39minute K? And I was trying to defend
- 37:41myself saying like it just it's only a minute, blah, blah.
- 37:44But then the actual like load that you're putting through the
- 37:49affected area by running like a 4 minute K versus a 5 minute K
- 37:53is like four or five times more or whatever.
- 37:56So it's just an idiotic thing to do really for me.
- 38:00So that's one thing I've learned from that.
- 38:03But you're way more ahead in your journey than I.
- 38:07Yeah, but no. But similar themes though, like
- 38:09whenever I've gone up in distance or minutes or and
- 38:13distance, I've gone back to keeping it at 5 minute, OK until
- 38:17I feel like I'm comfortable that the any discomfort or no
- 38:23discomforts there. And then as I feel more
- 38:26comfortable, I'll start to pick it up.
- 38:27But naturally I just wanna go fast all the time, but I can't.
- 38:32I know it's not the smart thing to do.
- 38:33So I'm just trying to limit, limit, limit myself to what's
- 38:38appropriate and appreciate that it's just loading everything up
- 38:43and, and we, if I want to chase, we've spoken about this maybe
- 38:49separately, but if there's plenty of opportunity in these
- 38:51bike sessions that we're doing, if we want to 1 push things and
- 38:54we do it in those, it's not smart to be burying my daughter
- 38:59on a run. I.
- 39:00Think he is. He's itching to bring up the
- 39:03fact that I was dropped. Yesterday I'd forgotten what
- 39:07happened. Tell tell.
- 39:08Us, right? We had the first casualty of one
- 39:12of these group rides. Well, how far in where?
- 39:15We like 45 minutes or something. And there's a ride that starts
- 39:19at because they all are attached to coffee shop seemingly.
- 39:22So were we 45 or you were 45 minutes in?
- 39:29Let me tell the story. And there's a ride that starts
- 39:35up the roads that's like known for being a lot faster or a lot
- 39:38better riders than the ones that we ride with.
- 39:41And then it just so happens that as we're going out, we all kind
- 39:45of like merged. So Dean and I obviously are
- 39:48like, OK, well, we'll just go with this group until we can't
- 39:51because it'll be fun to just like kind of get the free ride
- 39:54off the back of them. And then it was must have been
- 39:58around 40 odd minutes or so. And I said to Dean, shit, like,
- 40:01I've just clocked my heart rate. There is 174.
- 40:05And we've spoken so often about, like, how we've struggled to
- 40:09kind of get our heart rate. Into any of these higher zones
- 40:12whilst on the bike and weirdly it felt fine, but I soon learned
- 40:16that like it feels great until you're riding by yourself as
- 40:21soon as we come down this hill and then they all start pushing
- 40:25along this like flat road and then all of a sudden there's 5m
- 40:28gap and then as soon as there's 5 meters you just you're gone.
- 40:32There's no coming back. So I'm Dean done the very loyal
- 40:37team player thing that he would do.
- 40:40I must admit, Dean, I wouldn't have been waiting.
- 40:42I would have been like, well, we've spoken about it every man
- 40:46for themselves. And he, he pulled over to the
- 40:49sides like 10K up the road and waited.
- 40:51But I reckon he must have just got dropped as well.
- 40:55I peeled off up the one in the hills looking for you guys and
- 40:59there was there was no one and I was better stuff.
- 41:03Our whole group had. Our whole group ride had, yeah,
- 41:07fallen victim to this group we attached ourselves to.
- 41:10But no, my reference was to the fact of 45 minutes was because I
- 41:14didn't see you at the early bird ride before then.
- 41:18Yeah, very good actually. So be fair.
- 41:20You're an hour 45 then. I I'd gotten up for the early
- 41:24ride, but albeit that would you believe.
- 41:26Oh, and I was a few minutes late and missed the start so I had to
- 41:29do the whole thing solo. So wait.
- 41:31So you do like you stop him with like different groups.
- 41:35Yeah. So the, the group we've we meet
- 41:37up with for the main part of the group ride starts at 6:30, but
- 41:43an hour before then there's another crew ride that we attach
- 41:46to for 45 minutes. And then we disconnect from that
- 41:52and head over to the start of the main group ride.
- 41:56So it ends up in, I don't know, about 100 KS all up for the
- 41:59morning. So yeah, pretty good ride.
- 42:01I'm wait again, Ryan, are you fuelling for these cycles?
- 42:06Sometimes, yes, they had the banana.
- 42:09My God, like the gym session, he sometimes messaged.
- 42:12Hey, can you bring us to jail? Ryan, please, Coming back from
- 42:19an injury. Well, I know I'm being a bit
- 42:22silly, feel very well around there, but like during the like
- 42:29marathon sessions and stuff, it's fine.
- 42:31Like I enjoy it and I know that it's important part training,
- 42:34but there's just something about shoveling a load of gels down me
- 42:37whilst on the bike that doesn't make sense.
- 42:40But obviously the cyclists consume so much fuel.
- 42:43I've got so I take like 3 gels like double scoops in my bottles
- 42:49of the powder, 2 bottles, and then if I can I'll refill my
- 42:53bottles halfway through the ride because it's getting pretty warm
- 42:56now. Ryan's just fast and loose.
- 42:59Royal dogging it. Yeah, royal tokens.
- 43:03UK. Royal dogging with with non
- 43:07cycling shorts too. Everyone's like balls of steel.
- 43:10Trying to lose a few K for the returns of run, hit the ground,
- 43:13run no, be injured again. That's a re injury waiting to
- 43:17happen. No honestly my my calorie intake
- 43:22intake per day is probably like 4000 Cal.
- 43:24It's just I don't like, I'd rather like after bike ride have
- 43:28like a Big Breakfast and like treats throughout the day
- 43:31because I'm not trying to fuel to perform on the bike.
- 43:35Still have that, but you just need something during the ride
- 43:38to stop the bunk, like to stop you being totally depleted so
- 43:41you recover better. And yeah, just even some boiled
- 43:46eggs in your ass pocket or something keep you going.
- 43:50Boiled eggs and like because, and to to reiterate, like it's
- 43:56fairly high intensity like these rides like like my heart rate
- 44:02for the three hours is 145, which is pretty that's it's a
- 44:08fair effort 3 hours like yeah, so anyway.
- 44:11Come on Ryan, get your shit together.
- 44:13Yeah. Bring him a bottle next.
- 44:16Week gym, gym sessions and fuelling on the bike.
- 44:19I mean it could be worse though. You remember the conversation we
- 44:22had with a few of the guys after the ride last week?
- 44:24Dean and your mates like Nah, I'm not eating anything for like
- 44:283 hours. I'm fasting to lose weight.
- 44:32And then one of the other guys who is is by no means
- 44:37overweight. He's also like referencing that
- 44:40he doesn't really fuel all that much.
- 44:42None of them do. Deny just like, shit, yeah.
- 44:46Yeah, crazy. Before you talk about some
- 44:50actual running, well actually I was going to talk about some
- 44:52running but in a lower volume. I was going to say with my
- 44:56return to run this week, I've had to have not words with
- 45:01myself, but just a realization that this period now isn't like
- 45:06trying to build fitness and get fit again.
- 45:10It's literally like returning to run, like what it says on the
- 45:1310, surprise, surprise. But it's all about like tissue
- 45:16tolerance. So I was thinking, I've been
- 45:18thinking like with my SO start at 5 by 1 minute, up to 10 by
- 45:22one minute, 5 by 2 minutes, 5 by 3 minutes.
- 45:26And then I'm thinking now do I then start going like 8 by 3
- 45:32minutes and 7 by 4 minutes and building it out that way as you
- 45:36would if you're trying to get fitter, you know, with your
- 45:39sessions, you'll either increase the volume, increase the paces,
- 45:43or reduce the rest between to kind of like increase your
- 45:46training effect. Whereas this is all about
- 45:49isolate and the actual time that my heal and force is under
- 45:55mechanical stress. So take these, I'm at 3 minutes
- 45:59now, then we go to 4 minutes, then we go to 5 minutes and we
- 46:02go to 6 minutes because it's all about padding out that actual
- 46:05time that I'm physically able to run for without changing
- 46:09anything else. I'm doing it in a way by which
- 46:14we do every, every utterance of it.
- 46:16So 5 by 3 minutes. Do that twice.
- 46:19So the first time is likely to probably cause a little bit of
- 46:22discomfort. Then you do it again to make
- 46:25sure that it feels fine. So you know then when you take
- 46:28your next step to 5 by 4 minutes, if anything goes wrong,
- 46:33you know that it's that small change that you've made and you
- 46:36just go backwards one step until it all settles and then you go
- 46:39again. So it's just about creating like
- 46:42a a fail proof or a foolproof environment whereby you can't
- 46:48physically make too much of A drastic change.
- 46:52So hopefully I'm I'm on the right track with it.
- 46:56It'll be as long slow process but I'm enjoying being up to 3
- 47:01minutes worth of running because I'm all almost running OK
- 47:05non-stop. Well, not in 3 minutes.
- 47:11Why? Your head and you'll get there.
- 47:13And like, do you do like special activations for your like
- 47:18Achilles or your soleus or, I don't know, to like get it more
- 47:23engaged or like, is it just your lady at the door, same pair of
- 47:27shoes for all these runs or like, are you mixing it up?
- 47:31So yeah, I'm keeping the same pair of shoes and same surface,
- 47:35which is grass for now. And also, yeah, I'd do in like 4
- 47:38different drills for like 3 rounds before a start.
- 47:42So we like said to make that the baseline like drills and then we
- 47:47layer in the run on top and try and make the run more, more,
- 47:51more. Because I think the drills are
- 47:54kind of like good for the mechanical side of things as
- 47:56well, given that we're not able to do like anything fast or
- 47:59anything sharp just gets those muscles fire.
- 48:02And because, and Yakub being a Britain, I don't know what even
- 48:06injury Yakub had, but he's got this like special like like
- 48:11different plates that he uses with like different thicknesses.
- 48:14So they're like, like your big toe plays such a big role in the
- 48:19way your foot hits the ground and the way it activates or like
- 48:25I know, takes all the pressure and works your Achilles in your
- 48:28calf. So he's got these like plates
- 48:31that he uses with all different thicknesses that like activate
- 48:34basically the muscles correctly. I just thought it was
- 48:40interesting, but no, seems like you're going to the right
- 48:43direction. Yeah, I did asked Steve about
- 48:46this, like whether or not to be doing it in plated shoes.
- 48:50Like although I'd feel like an idiot jogging around in plated
- 48:53shoes, if it was to be of benefit, then I would obviously.
- 48:57But he said that like the place the stiffness of the shoe
- 49:03reduces the like the tension or the flexion that goes through
- 49:09like your foot on your toe, which you would think is a good
- 49:12thing. But then eventually when I
- 49:14return to run properly and I'm wearing different types of shoes
- 49:17and stuff, I might just be creating an environment where
- 49:20I'm then going to fall down when it comes to it.
- 49:22So I just start in this like everyday shoe and then when I
- 49:29actually start wearing plated shoes again that'll be fine.
- 49:32Whereas if I only wore plates now and then went to normal
- 49:35shoes, that might cause me problems.
- 49:37Yeah, yeah, you have to think like long term rather than short
- 49:40term. Like short term, yeah mate, that
- 49:42might be all right for you, but you need to look at the bigger
- 49:44picture and like, like longer term, you need to get your
- 49:47Achilles stronger. Absolutely.
- 49:50But it feels good to be running. It's bloody lovely.
- 49:54And the weather is picking up there as well.
- 49:56It looks so nice. I'm just a tiny tiny tiny bit
- 49:59jealous. Yeah, it could be a long hard
- 50:01winter slog with Dean and I complain about how hot it is and
- 50:06you sat there thinking please fuck off.
- 50:08It's yeah, it's 38° tomorrow, Ireland, so it will be pretty
- 50:13spicy. Would like the equivalent of an
- 50:15Irish like 20° day probably. I was so hot I'd ran this
- 50:21afternoon. It was about 30° and I was
- 50:25thinking about the Irish heat wave as well because it was, it
- 50:29was one of those first runs where it's noticeably more
- 50:31uncomfortable. But it was quite a dry heat
- 50:35though. And I was like, yeah, that's the
- 50:37typical perf evaporative sort of hate, the hate we like.
- 50:43Your throat and your mouth just gets like parched isn't.
- 50:48It bless your water fountains every like 2 kilometers.
- 50:53Out of necessity. Canal in Ireland, we've got that
- 50:57heat but we don't have any water fan.
- 50:58We don't have the facilities you guys have.
- 51:00He's got so can't just have a lucky.
- 51:02I'm before you say you're weak, one things just come to me.
- 51:06I want to say otherwise I'll forget.
- 51:08So a few people listeners have been commenting and asking about
- 51:12Jeannie Mac. What what it actually means or
- 51:15like where it comes from. I haven't a clue.
- 51:20Jeannie Mac. Yeah, I really don't know.
- 51:26Do I say it that much? Must do.
- 51:30Genie Mac I don't know, I think it's just an Irish saying and.
- 51:37Would would other people in your town and stuff say it?
- 51:40Is it like a colloquialism? Yeah, but now that I say it out
- 51:44loud, it actually sounds like very weird.
- 51:46Like Genie Mac. Yeah, I don't know that one.
- 51:52We need some research into the origins of who Jeannie Mac is
- 51:55and what he or she don't to 'cause their name being
- 51:59associated with like, shock or something like that, isn't it?
- 52:04Yeah, Jeannie Mac. What would you search?
- 52:08Why do Irish people say Jeannie Mac?
- 52:10Yeah, it's a Irish explanation of surprise and shock.
- 52:16It's an old, It's a mild oath that likely originated in
- 52:20Ireland and has been used for at least 50 years, sometimes
- 52:23associated with Western Ireland, Ireland or Dublin.
- 52:27It's a minced oath, a way of expressing surprise or strong
- 52:32reaction without using profanity.
- 52:34It's like, oh, my goodness or good heavens.
- 52:37The term is spread from Ireland to other countries.
- 52:39Largely are. Yeah.
- 52:41I don't know. It's spelled like Janie, Mac.
- 52:43So JANEY and then Mac. This thing I've just search says
- 52:48it likely comes from Jesus, Mary and Joseph.
- 52:51Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Jesus.
- 52:54Jeanie Ma. Yeah.
- 52:56I don't. I never.
- 52:57Yeah. I never knew I said it that.
- 52:59Much you'll be conscious now and won't be saying it.
- 53:04That's. Good, right?
- 53:06Well, I start my week and so after the race on Sunday, so I
- 53:13didn't run Monday morning. And then in the evening I just
- 53:17got out for 45 minutes with my brother and I wore like I wore
- 53:23the Puma Magmax. And I think that is like my shoe
- 53:28of the year. I am.
- 53:30I just look forward to putting on.
- 53:32It feels good. I feel like I can get rolling
- 53:34and yeah, really, really enjoying it.
- 53:39What's the colorway? Oh, it's just I got it all black
- 53:42because there's no point to getting nice colors nowadays in
- 53:45Ireland because it just gets absolutely destroyed.
- 53:50The Tuesday I got out for just another Tuesday.
- 53:56I got out for 45 minutes in the morning and then just 30 minutes
- 53:59in the evening. 2 easy jogs again, just recovering.
- 54:04No, I'd normally do a session on a Tuesday, but just to give my
- 54:08body that extra time to recover. Wednesday, good day for 60.
- 54:14I felt pretty shit on this one. I don't know why I felt like
- 54:18just the first half of it, I felt like I was like pushing.
- 54:21It was like 13.7 K, 420 threes per kilometer.
- 54:26But yeah, I just didn't feel great.
- 54:28Just one of them mornings, it's dark, it's gloomy, and yeah, I
- 54:32just didn't feel. And it was actually pretty humid
- 54:35as well. That might have been it.
- 54:37I was like I like stepped out the door getting ready like I'd
- 54:40a jacket on 1/2 zip, like a body warmer AT shirt half our full
- 54:45length tights, like I was expecting it to be cold and then
- 54:48it just wasn't that cold. So then I ended up sweating, but
- 54:54and then I done circuits Wednesday evening and Wednesday
- 55:00actually on my break and lunch. So I where I live, there is not
- 55:05really a gym beside me and because I drive 15 minutes to
- 55:09work, I'm like then 8 minutes outside a relatively largely
- 55:14populated area called Drata, which would have loads of gyms.
- 55:18So I have now my plan from now on is so I drive 15 minutes at
- 55:24work, but I'll just keep on going now let's say in the
- 55:26morning. So I just going extra early, so
- 55:27an extra 8 minutes and I've signed up for a gym andrada,
- 55:31which has like these like nice treadmills, showers and all.
- 55:35So for my Thursday I so I just have to be like ultra prepared.
- 55:42So like I've a little jar of overnight oats.
- 55:45I've got my lunch as well. I've got like running clothes,
- 55:51I've got like shower clothes for like then work and then after
- 55:57Thursday I'd go to gym in my coach's house.
- 56:00So I have to like have like a little snack for after work gym
- 56:04clothes. So Thursday I basically have
- 56:06like a full wardrobe in the car. Who?
- 56:10Who packs the overnight oats and those bits and pieces that all
- 56:13you or Aden? Helped me.
- 56:15No, it's me. It's me.
- 56:18She's on dinner. OK, that's yeah, I, yeah, Ryan
- 56:22and I'd be struggling with that, but how's Pax?
- 56:24My overnight oats. And I know Ryan didn't make it
- 56:27to the Thursday threshold session because Becky was away.
- 56:30So very impressive. Aden says that's in the next
- 56:34tier of a relationship, so I just, I haven't unlocked that
- 56:38level yet. Yours is very much like the the
- 56:45Josh Care package. Like Josh's chef, you've got AD
- 56:48and as part of your crew. Yeah.
- 56:51My, my crew's getting big. I've got physio now, we've got
- 56:54dietitian coach, man, It's like it takes a village to like
- 56:58actually. Rise in Allen, Yeah, basically.
- 57:03But Thursday morning, so warm up just trick on the treadmill.
- 57:07Then I switched into the New Balance Supercom trainer.
- 57:12So I think that is my last shoe I bought on Australia and
- 57:17they're coming to the end of their lifetime.
- 57:19So I had 4 by 5 minutes of two-minute jog and I made the
- 57:25rookie mistake. So it was all well and good.
- 57:28I just pressed quick start on the treadmill and it was grand.
- 57:32I was hitting the five minute wraps in around 3 minute per
- 57:35kilometer pace and then for the two-minute floats I was around 4
- 57:39minute kilometer pace so felt good.
- 57:43And we just go on a heart rate to try and K off what that would
- 57:46be right for the treaty. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:49So yeah, it's totally by heart rate.
- 57:52I'm just trying to get up to a certain, a certain level.
- 57:57But like the first four reps were grand but sure is in quick
- 58:03start. There's only a 30 minute period.
- 58:06So on my last Rep at 25 minutes didn't start to freaking cool
- 58:11down so it just started dropping the pace so I had to hold.
- 58:16I just basically ruined my last Rep I'd be going through a
- 58:19minute then it starts slowing down, so I'd have to hold on the
- 58:22increased pace button, but then it would go like more than 20
- 58:26kilometers an hour ago up to 21 and have to try and pull it back
- 58:30and it was just and every minute then it would try and like slow
- 58:32down the speed even more. It was an absolute disaster, but
- 58:36umm, I got it look, I got it done last year wasn't ideal, but
- 58:40it was still like 8 1/2 K at like 332 average.
- 58:44So, umm, and the, I felt like the three minutes, it felt good,
- 58:47like breathing wise, it's just, I don't know, I felt like you're
- 58:50on a treadmill. You sort of have to get used to
- 58:51running on a treadmill. I felt like I was trying to keep
- 58:53up with it, but it felt, it did feel pretty good.
- 58:57So it was probably the first time I felt good post race.
- 59:01Feel like because you're just the treadmills moving underneath
- 59:04you, you're just trying to maintain contact off of it.
- 59:07Back it's a bit, it's a bit different to running outside but
- 59:10but a bit easier on the legs I find, so probably a good thing
- 59:13to do after a race. Yeah, yeah.
- 59:16And I feel like it's harder to get the high rate up.
- 59:18Yeah. So yeah, definitely.
- 59:20Like in theory like 3 minutes I didn't probably hit the heart
- 59:23rate I needed to hit but I feel like if I'm going any faster.
- 59:27Mechanically. Yeah, it just throws me off.
- 59:29So yeah, I'll look, I'll get there.
- 59:31It was my first treadmill session in a while.
- 59:34And people often say about putting like the incline on no
- 59:38.5 to compensate for the road or whatever.
- 59:41What about the, the lack of like, even if there's zero wind
- 59:45outside, you still have the, the wind resistance that you're
- 59:48running into? Like you're creating a
- 59:50resistance based on that, aren't you?
- 59:52I mean, I've never thought of this before.
- 59:54She comes to me now. I wonder like how you compensate
- 59:57for that. I don't it's hard though they
- 59:59then you don't get the cooling that the wind provides you as
- 1:00:02well. So I don't know if that plays a
- 1:00:04role. But yeah, we have a fan to try
- 1:00:07and call us down but. I don't know, I just find the
- 1:00:11treadmill really helpful if you're feeling a bit sore or if
- 1:00:14you just want to be very consistent because you can't
- 1:00:17outside. It's hard to be as consistent,
- 1:00:20but the downside is that you probably don't go as hard.
- 1:00:23But I don't know if that's necessarily a bad thing for
- 1:00:26training. Especially when you're doing
- 1:00:28threshold based stuff like you're probably better just
- 1:00:30under the line rather than over the line.
- 1:00:35But that was Thursday. Then that evening I done, I sort
- 1:00:38of started a new phase of like strength.
- 1:00:40So I'm just starting to lift heavy again because I've
- 1:00:44tailored it off when I was building up to nationals.
- 1:00:47Can I ask what a couple of your lifts like?
- 1:00:49Go to lifts are that when you're trying to lift?
- 1:00:51Heavy. So I squat.
- 1:00:59I What weight was it? We've done this thing where it
- 1:01:02was. So you start off with three
- 1:01:04reps, 15 minute, 15 second break, 4 reps, 5 reps, 6 reps, 7
- 1:01:10reps, 8 reps, Not up to 9 reps So yeah, it was sort of like a
- 1:01:16different. We don't normally do that.
- 1:01:17Normally I just lift like heavy, but like like 3 reps.
- 1:01:21Let's say we do this like where you're on the box and you sort
- 1:01:25of step down and try and push up.
- 1:01:27I notice that's like a single leg exercise and I just noticed
- 1:01:30my left leg is so much more weaker than my right leg.
- 1:01:34My coach actually is. I do upper body as well so I do
- 1:01:39a bit of like benching and all. Just.
- 1:01:42Get them gains. Oh man like when I was playing
- 1:01:45Gaelic I could bench like I think like my best was like get
- 1:01:4998 KG for like 1 Rep and now I could do like 75 for one Max.
- 1:01:56I've totally umm, lost all strength in my upper body but
- 1:02:01like, you don't need it ready for running there.
- 1:02:04I remember when I was like AC in and trying to look a little bit
- 1:02:08different than a runner and like benching 2 plates was like a
- 1:02:12life goal scene. Like 100K boy squatting.
- 1:02:18What was I squatting there that night?
- 1:02:20I think it was 70 or 80. And so again, I could probably
- 1:02:24go heavier. It was just like reintroduce,
- 1:02:26like sort of a reintroduction of weight because I don't know,
- 1:02:29like overdue on the first one. And we do a lot of core as well
- 1:02:32in there. So umm, no, it's good.
- 1:02:34I do enjoy gym and it's especially good when like your
- 1:02:37coaches, they're like supervising it because he
- 1:02:39corrects form and all that sort of stuff.
- 1:02:40It just makes you more accountable.
- 1:02:43That's. 100K then. I'm doing like a deadlift but
- 1:02:49not so not any squats at the minute but doing a deadlift.
- 1:02:53But yeah, it's about 1.5 times body weight.
- 1:02:56Is that with the trap bar or like the Olympic bar?
- 1:03:00Yeah, with the trap bar, I find it a bit safer just with my
- 1:03:02back. But yeah, we sort of built up
- 1:03:05to, I think it's about 105 kilos and then three, three sets of
- 1:03:12five I think is where I'm at. But yeah, is that the one you
- 1:03:16like step into? I feel like that one wrecks and
- 1:03:19pulls the hands off me. Yeah, so that's where I'm at the
- 1:03:22moment. It's it's hard to keep holding
- 1:03:23it. But yeah, it's more of a
- 1:03:25reflection of my lack of upper body.
- 1:03:29And then yeah, like calf work as well, like isometric stuff with
- 1:03:33my calves, which it's funny, they're quite, you'd think
- 1:03:37they're stronger than what you would think they'd be stronger
- 1:03:39than what they are based on the amount of running we do.
- 1:03:41But yeah, a lot of single legged calf stuff.
- 1:03:45They get found out pretty quick, but good to do.
- 1:03:48So have you been doing like the Smith machine, like isometric
- 1:03:53holds on your calf? What sort of weight have you got
- 1:03:56on there, Bent? Leg straight leg Oh, I'm not not
- 1:04:00a lot, not a lot of weight, but I can't remember off the top of
- 1:04:05my head. But it's not, it's not heavy
- 1:04:06weights, but just I feel like my calves fatigued pretty quickly.
- 1:04:10So it's been good to good to do. I remember Steve gave me it
- 1:04:15first, like 4 by 4 by 4, so 4 sets of four reps of four second
- 1:04:23holds on each calf so that you would go up on 2 calves, lift
- 1:04:27one off. So you just got one leg hold for
- 1:04:30four second swap and do that four times and yeah, it's enough
- 1:04:34to blow your calves up. Yeah.
- 1:04:37So I've done like some of that and then like bent legged to I
- 1:04:40think that targets here is it. So yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:04:48And then yeah, hyper core stuff because I'm pretty deficient
- 1:04:50there, which is I think was part of mine doing, which is why I
- 1:04:52got injured. But yeah, good stuff anyway.
- 1:04:57Angles. Sorry to disturb you from your
- 1:05:00wake. Up yeah all right so Saturday
- 1:05:01morning was like my first like track session back so I'm
- 1:05:04actually had a had a crew for the first time since probably
- 1:05:10since since Australia. So it was nice.
- 1:05:12So I run with my brother tags along a girl called Sarah and
- 1:05:18another lad called TP. So yeah, the coach sort of
- 1:05:21coaches three others, the two others 100% and then my brother
- 1:05:25just sometimes just getting fit for football.
- 1:05:28So the session was so 15 minute warm cool down and then it was 2
- 1:05:33sets of four by AK. So Sarah, she'd do like a 400
- 1:05:39meter Rep. My brother and the TP he, they
- 1:05:43do a 600 meter Rep and I do decay.
- 1:05:45So sort of had someone. Yeah.
- 1:05:46So he literally only had to run like 400 meters by myself.
- 1:05:49That's what I was thinking about it.
- 1:05:51So I the first set was in around 70 seconds per lap, felt cool
- 1:06:00and like the recovery was 200 jog.
- 1:06:02So I literally jog to the start again and go so.
- 1:06:08What's that about it? Maybe a minute or how slow your
- 1:06:11job. In a minute, a minute, yeah, so
- 1:06:15first was in 72nd wraps and then the second set was in 68, so
- 1:06:216860 nines. But yeah, feel it felt good.
- 1:06:26It was nice to get moving for that session.
- 1:06:28I wore I'll just a beat up pair of old super shoes I have, so I
- 1:06:34had the benefit of that. But yeah, like it was like 9.4 K
- 1:06:37at like 317 pace. 30 minutes would work.
- 1:06:40That's very that's good going like 8 by K with those 200 meter
- 1:06:44jogs like in like 72nd laps like because that's a bit of a you
- 1:06:50know, like MTC. I remember joining like Ramsden,
- 1:06:55a few of those guys doing that sort of 70 seconds and you jog
- 1:06:57the 200 works out to be about a minute on your watch.
- 1:07:00Go again. Yeah, that's.
- 1:07:02It's not a lot. Recovering.
- 1:07:04No, not at all. Because you're still sort of
- 1:07:06moving to get around to the start line.
- 1:07:09Yeah, yeah, it's about 5-5 minute K pace.
- 1:07:11K Pace yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 1:07:14And but it was just nice to have the guys there because I could
- 1:07:16literally just sit in for the 1st and for the 1st 600 meters,
- 1:07:21and then it's just a kick sort of the last lap just to keep it
- 1:07:24going. So umm yeah, I was happy with
- 1:07:26how it went. Felt good.
- 1:07:27And did you get quicker on the second set, Did you get quicker
- 1:07:30than the 70s on the? Second set was in 6860 nines.
- 1:07:34That's very good. So you'd have to be in the best
- 1:07:36shape you've been in, right? Yeah.
- 1:07:41Yeah, I am. Well, I probably am, yeah.
- 1:07:43It's yeah. It's exciting.
- 1:07:45I just, yeah. I'd love to have like a 5K race
- 1:07:48like tomorrow and just see what I'd get, but that will have to
- 1:07:50wait till Valencia early John. It's not far, not far away.
- 1:07:54What was the Why aren't you saying there's something on like
- 1:07:56the 27th of December something? Oh, yeah, that's like a little
- 1:08:00Rd. 5K, but I'm not sure how deep deep that will be that I
- 1:08:02think that might be like a like a sort of a time trial sort of
- 1:08:06thing. I'm not really sure what level.
- 1:08:09Yeah. So I'm, oh, I actually got my my
- 1:08:13sort of Christmas present came at the new the new Puma.
- 1:08:19She was the was at the fast bar. Yeah, they came and I just tried
- 1:08:26them on to see if I fit in case I had to send them back.
- 1:08:28But guys, they how they felt so good, just like walking around
- 1:08:32the kitchen in them. You put like 10 KS into them
- 1:08:36walking around the house. And so yeah, they came.
- 1:08:40Had to get them from Puma, Germany.
- 1:08:43It was in the special like Acadine colorway because they're
- 1:08:47sold out. I couldn't get them anywhere.
- 1:08:48And like I'd loved, I wanted to give them a go.
- 1:08:51So yeah, I I'll be wearing them for for Valencia.
- 1:08:58Will you do workout or anything in them or maybe the 5K?
- 1:09:02I'll do the 5K in them. Yeah, that'll be their their
- 1:09:05debut. It is.
- 1:09:06You've taken so well to those Mad Max ones, you'd like to
- 1:09:09think these will be good for you as well.
- 1:09:11And I love the Velocities as well, the Puma Velocity V4, like
- 1:09:15I feel like I get on with the shoes.
- 1:09:16So hopefully a lot of people seem to go on well with them, so
- 1:09:20fingers crossed. So you're more excited than like
- 1:09:23a actual little kid for Christmas?
- 1:09:26No, I'll be running around the house.
- 1:09:32And then, and so yeah, that was my Saturday, oh, Saturday
- 1:09:36evening then I just got out for a 45 minute jog for just 11K4-O
- 1:09:43sevens in the Puma Mag Max again.
- 1:09:45And, and then that evening we actually, so when we were in
- 1:09:49Australia, we had to do regional work in, we done it in a place
- 1:09:52called stall outside Melbourne. And we worked with this
- 1:09:55Brazilian couple and they were, then they moved to Sydney and we
- 1:10:01literally only worked with them for like 3 to 4 weeks.
- 1:10:03But we gone really, really well with them.
- 1:10:05So we're meant to meet up with them when we were in Australia,
- 1:10:08but just never worked out. And we sort of sold them the
- 1:10:12Dream on Ireland. So they actually moved to
- 1:10:14Ireland. And so so now last night there's
- 1:10:19this thing on in Dublin Zoo, it's called like the wild
- 1:10:21lights. And basically you walk around
- 1:10:23Dublin Zoo and there's like these like colorful lights and
- 1:10:25all that sort of stuff. So we actually, we brought them
- 1:10:28to see that. So it's the first time seeing
- 1:10:30them in like 2 years. It was it was so nice to catch
- 1:10:32over them and. Yeah, This is why.
- 1:10:36This is why the early morning record was.
- 1:10:39Yes, went out the window. Because because I'm like far as
- 1:10:43you're normally in bed at this time when you when you message.
- 1:10:47Yeah, so, and then we went back to their place and umm, ah, so
- 1:10:52I, you know what I always say, and I'm really good at pool.
- 1:10:55Yeah. So there was a pool table in
- 1:10:57there like apartment complex. And then his name is G And I was
- 1:11:02like, oh, Gee, do you want to give a pool?
- 1:11:04And he was like, oh, well, first of all, he's, he sounded
- 1:11:07surprised. He didn't know there was a pool
- 1:11:08table there in the complex. And I was like, oh, yeah, I'll
- 1:11:11give you a game. And I broke and I'll.
- 1:11:14And then I was looking at the way he was holding the pool
- 1:11:16queue and he, he looked like he knew what he was doing.
- 1:11:21Basically, I was going to wipe the floor at him.
- 1:11:23And he ended up beating me. I looked like a fucking idiot.
- 1:11:29Good. Yeah, but I didn't go home to
- 1:11:31like half 11. And then I was like, I'm going
- 1:11:34to have to get up at 5:00 AM here to freaking do the record.
- 1:11:38I was like, and then I planned to meet a guy this morning for a
- 1:11:42long run as well. And so yeah, I was like, oh, is
- 1:11:46there any chance we could delay? Which I am very happy about.
- 1:11:50Thank you very much guys. How are they found in Ireland?
- 1:11:54Cold it's. A big shock to go from like
- 1:11:59Brazil to Australia to Ireland and they didn't get the nice
- 1:12:03heat wave at the start. They are like straight into like
- 1:12:06really dark, gloomy Ireland. So yeah, for some, no, no, it's
- 1:12:13nice. And then this morning I got out
- 1:12:18for a 90 minutes where one of the lads, Phillip, he's the 357
- 1:12:23Miller, he bat me in cross country by a place there the
- 1:12:26other day. So yeah, I got out for 90
- 1:12:28minutes with him and the last 15 had a little pick up.
- 1:12:31So there this morning it was 23 kilometers at 4 minute pace and
- 1:12:38yeah, total for the week was 106 kilometers.
- 1:12:43So strained together. Another few weeks it is, and
- 1:12:46yeah, hopefully I'll be ready to go for Spain.
- 1:12:48Where's that Philip live relative?
- 1:12:50See you. So he he, he's originally from a
- 1:12:54place called Retort that is like, I'm going to say 1015
- 1:12:58minutes, 10 minutes away from me.
- 1:13:00But he lives up in Dublin now. So he's right beside the Phoenix
- 1:13:03Park. So he was just, it worked out.
- 1:13:05Well, he was just up for the weekend.
- 1:13:07He was in retail. So yeah, we linked up for a run.
- 1:13:10Did you drop him or just say together?
- 1:13:13He dropped. He has the ability to drop me.
- 1:13:17I know I'm not dropping him anytime soon, but yeah, that was
- 1:13:22good. Nice work.
- 1:13:25Well, I think now we have the Valencia Marathon preview.
- 1:13:29So I was looking for the elite fields earlier.
- 1:13:32So I think it happens next Sunday the race, which will be
- 1:13:36Any idea what time it is locally?
- 1:13:38Let's find out. Really want to use find out.
- 1:13:41I'll read these fields out. So heading up the men's field is
- 1:13:46CC Lemma. He has a PB of two O 148 which
- 1:13:50is absolutely bang up there, so I'm sure Valencia will have
- 1:13:56signed him up with a view to chase the world world record
- 1:13:59pace. Then behind him there is a bit
- 1:14:02of a gap in terms of the next best.
- 1:14:05There's a Ethiopian guy called Key Ross 2O four and then
- 1:14:10there's a bunch of people in that two O 4 range including the
- 1:14:14German guy Petros who finished second and gave it away on the
- 1:14:19line. In the World Champs you've got a
- 1:14:22couple of Kenyans in the mix, Edward Chesarak PB of two O 5 in
- 1:14:28Chessy, Japanese guy with a 2O5. Also listed on the elite list,
- 1:14:35unfortunately, was Andy Buchanan and Clayton Young, who will be
- 1:14:39DNS's and then all the noticeable male names.
- 1:14:44I found out it starts at 8:15 AM Spanish time and it's streamed
- 1:14:51on their website. So if you look Valencia Marathon
- 1:14:54website, there's two streams, a Spanish stream and an English
- 1:14:57stream. So that is where you can get it.
- 1:15:00Perfect. There's Sunday evening sorted
- 1:15:03CFM from the other men. Somehow these guys aren't in the
- 1:15:07elite field, but guess just shows what the athletes Valencia
- 1:15:10are dealing with. You've got Brett Robinson have
- 1:15:12to drink sauce and Gregson and Tom Dicanto going over from an
- 1:15:18Australian point of view. You've got Phil Sussman, Alex
- 1:15:21Yee, Jack Rowe, Johnny Mellor, Ben Connor, Dewey Griffiths and
- 1:15:27Callum Hawkins going over from auk point of view.
- 1:15:31So for some, I mean the Australian guys somewhat speak
- 1:15:37for themselves, like Brett Robinson, former national record
- 1:15:40holder, have to has been quite openly vocal in saying he's
- 1:15:45going to have a shot at the national record, which is Andy
- 1:15:48Buchanan's for the time being. And Gregson has run 213.
- 1:15:54Maybe I think is Tom Dicanto is a little bit quicker to 12 or to
- 1:15:5911. To 11, yeah.
- 1:16:01And then there's British guys, I was looking at their like all
- 1:16:05time list placing. So like the national record is
- 1:16:09still MO Farah's two O 5, then Phil Sessman's run, two O 7
- 1:16:15ranked #5 all time. Alex Yee, the triathlete, he
- 1:16:19made his debut in London 211. So I'm sure he'll be looking to
- 1:16:23take a couple of minutes off that.
- 1:16:25Then Johnny Mellor is 11th all time with his 209 and Callum
- 1:16:31Hawkins coming making a big comeback.
- 1:16:34So he was, he would have been competing like properly.
- 1:16:38When how long ago? When did you invest some
- 1:16:43something into? So he was I think 2017, 1819, I
- 1:16:50think he was 4th at the World Champs in the UK, 2017, he was
- 1:16:54fourth again I think in Doha 2019 and then he was a shock DNF
- 1:17:00at the Com games in 2018. Yeah, OK, so and it looks like
- 1:17:04he's been doing some unbelievable training and he's
- 1:17:06got the 6th fastest ever 2/08/14 so plenty.
- 1:17:13To watch. I'm pretty sure he ran 60 flat
- 1:17:16in that marathon, half marathon we did Marigami, I think he
- 1:17:19might have won that or was involved in a Sprint finish
- 1:17:22there one year. They ran a lot 60.
- 1:17:25I nearly put, I don't know, like he'll easily get I think under
- 1:17:28two 10100% if 208 maybe. So yeah, it's so exciting.
- 1:17:36I wish you could they had like drones over people so you could
- 1:17:40like pay money to you can pay money to like follow certain
- 1:17:44people because we won't see any of these guys.
- 1:17:46Like you'll just be following these stupid canyons that are
- 1:17:49really good at running. The app, yeah, exactly.
- 1:17:53The app, though, is good for, I'm pretty sure it's one of
- 1:17:56those, you know, where you can actually see where they are on
- 1:17:59the road. Yeah.
- 1:18:01All you see is they're freaking initials.
- 1:18:03I want to see these guys actually running.
- 1:18:04Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know anything.
- 1:18:07You know, like in the F1 you can take the drive of you, like you
- 1:18:11can choose any driver and be in their helmet almost like you.
- 1:18:15It'd be sick to do that, wouldn't it?
- 1:18:17Just a little drone hovering over them or to decide like I
- 1:18:20think it's a. You know, with these meta
- 1:18:24glasses now, Yeah, imagine the athlete wore them and like live
- 1:18:28stream the race. That would be sick.
- 1:18:30That would be so cool. Yeah, that's something Clayton
- 1:18:33Young would do. So of Oh yeah, he's been wearing
- 1:18:37them before. Think when what was the last
- 1:18:39marathon where he's like, he wasn't competing but he was
- 1:18:41involved in like the live stream and stuff.
- 1:18:44He had them on that weekend and was posting some things.
- 1:18:47But from all of those, say the Australians and the Brits, who
- 1:18:54do we potentially expect to run the quickest?
- 1:18:58Because like Sussman has been targeting this massively.
- 1:19:01And then I think use were chatting about a video that he
- 1:19:04put up with his training partners, Alex Yi and Emil
- 1:19:08Kress, who's actually run faster than all of them.
- 1:19:10I think he's pacing to be fair. Yeah, that YouTube video was
- 1:19:14super like, strange. Like, it was so public, but Emil
- 1:19:18Kress, I didn't know an Adidas satellite was wearing, like,
- 1:19:22Nike super shoes. So it makes you wonder, like,
- 1:19:26has he jumped ship to go to Nike or is he?
- 1:19:29Yeah, I don't know how that even works.
- 1:19:31Like, like, is his contract up without a gas or.
- 1:19:35Like, I hate the way this isn't public information.
- 1:19:38We need to know. Because he's coached by Canover
- 1:19:42isn't he? And does a shit load of his
- 1:19:44stuff out in Kenya. I remember hearing Sessman on
- 1:19:47maybe it was podcasts a couple of years ago and he was talking
- 1:19:51about like a male as a training partner and stuff.
- 1:19:53And he was basically saying just how like dialed in he is with
- 1:19:57everything. So Phil might be conscious that
- 1:20:01he can use running to like supplement his income and stuff
- 1:20:05and say yes to some of these like media sponsorship
- 1:20:07opportunities. He was like a male's just like,
- 1:20:10Nah, if that's taken up half an hour of my day, then the
- 1:20:13answer's no. I'm recovering and.
- 1:20:16The fact that he does so much was training out in Kenya kind
- 1:20:19of like adds weight to that, doesn't it?
- 1:20:21Like just completely switch off from everything out there.
- 1:20:24Sacrifice, life, relationships, social things.
- 1:20:29And the two boys, Ben Connor and Callum Hawkins, you know, I'm on
- 1:20:33this run, so it's clearly just to them.
- 1:20:36They've done 35K at three O 8 pace and starting off at like
- 1:20:41315 and getting down to like 3 minute flat.
- 1:20:46But Ben, your man Callum Hawkins, his like Strava profile
- 1:20:51is like Rex Banner and it's a picture of like a Simpson
- 1:20:56character. But like, you can't.
- 1:20:58Oh, there we go. Get into it.
- 1:21:00Like they're hitting like 200 K weeks.
- 1:21:03So yeah, it'd be really interesting to see how how them
- 1:21:07boys go. But yeah, like you can't really.
- 1:21:10I can't actually have to. I think he's the one that he
- 1:21:14could go so, so, so well, or it could be a recipe for disaster
- 1:21:19if he goes out with all the fast guys because I think Valencia's
- 1:21:23down hurt start or something. You can really, really mess
- 1:21:25yourself up. And especially when you're in a
- 1:21:26group with such fast people like Tom Dicano running cross country
- 1:21:30two weeks before. I think he likes, like, training
- 1:21:33pretty hard the whole way up and then like just Sesame and yeah,
- 1:21:38yeah, it's going to be so good. It's exciting that half 2 is
- 1:21:42like actually gone out there and said his training is gone like
- 1:21:45immaculately and he is going to be going after the record
- 1:21:49because yeah, I would, I'd fucking love to see him do it.
- 1:21:54And then Brett's going to be probably if Half 2 is going off
- 1:21:57at Aussie record pace and seemingly Brett's training has
- 1:22:01gone very well and he looks to be in good shape as well.
- 1:22:04He obviously had had the Sydney run which was a bad run, but I
- 1:22:08think his build when pretty well into that and he's obviously
- 1:22:11just compounded on the back of it so he's not going to watch
- 1:22:15have to go off at Aussie record pace and just sit in the group
- 1:22:18behind them. I imagine it'll be going with
- 1:22:21him, so that's going to be class.
- 1:22:23You surely you just took him behind them.
- 1:22:27Just watch. How do you so who would you say
- 1:22:30is the top British? Who finishes top Britain, who
- 1:22:35finishes top Aussie, and then who wins out of those two?
- 1:22:38On paper, to me it seems like Sussman's the the top Brett, but
- 1:22:42I think Jack Rowe might be making his debut there and he
- 1:22:45has a ridiculously quick half PB.
- 1:22:49I think I'll just try and pull it up now, but I'm going to say
- 1:22:53that have two finishes ahead of all of them, then Sussman and
- 1:23:01then Brett. What?
- 1:23:03What's the are we going to overall under for the Aussie
- 1:23:06record, do you think? I'd like to see him do it.
- 1:23:11So I'll just say, yeah, I mean, chance, probability says no, but
- 1:23:16let's be optimistic over under what Aussie record?
- 1:23:19I have to but then. What do you think?
- 1:23:23Imagine Brett reclaimed it I. Don't.
- 1:23:25That would be good. Yeah, go for it.
- 1:23:29What do you think? Sessman runs so looks like he's
- 1:23:35reckons he's recovered from the 207 he ran in was at Amsterdam.
- 1:23:41He only needs to, you know, presumably there'll be a group
- 1:23:46that goes at that three minute K pace, right, which is 20 so
- 1:23:51that's 20630 odd. So they'll be targeting that I
- 1:23:59assume So, yeah, which is right on Australian record pace.
- 1:24:05So I think they're probably are all together is what I expect.
- 1:24:10And then it's whoever fin finishes the strongest.
- 1:24:13And I thought maybe when Andy Buchanan ran that time he did,
- 1:24:16was Ed Cheserick in that group and then just managed to run off
- 1:24:20and ran and closed really hard. That's where he ran his PBA as
- 1:24:22well. Say it could be an F.
- 1:24:26Who's Andy Buchanan's coach or is he self coached All toys
- 1:24:32Davis. Coach.
- 1:24:34Yep. Or in New South.
- 1:24:37He's a good runner. Welshman, yeah.
- 1:24:39He represented Australia in the 2016 Olympics in the marathon.
- 1:24:45Surely Andy Buchanan was never going to be ready for this if he
- 1:24:49had a stressy like, and then to jump straight back into high
- 1:24:52mileage, like that's just a recipe for a disaster.
- 1:24:55Like Shirley, like he's more attuned to like his body and
- 1:24:59like what he was trying to do that like it just was never
- 1:25:02going to work. I reckon it was on the back of
- 1:25:06because he missed Tokyo, didn't he?
- 1:25:08So then he would have put like all his eggs into like, OK, I'm
- 1:25:13going to be at Valencia and I'm going to have a good one at
- 1:25:15Valencia. And then almost like tunnel
- 1:25:17vision, like now I'm doing it. I'm doing it.
- 1:25:20The injury comes up. You're like now like I'll take a
- 1:25:22week off, but then I'm back. And then it's not until you
- 1:25:25like, finally come out of that bubble.
- 1:25:27And he's, you could probably ask him now and he'd be like, yeah,
- 1:25:30I would have been 1,000,000 miles off.
- 1:25:32Like it's a good job. I wasn't there and stuff, but
- 1:25:35you know how it is. Yeah, it's just, yeah.
- 1:25:39Disappointing. And Tom Dicano, does he break
- 1:25:42his personal vest? Yeah, surely.
- 1:25:44Have to be a chance after he after we ran on the weekend.
- 1:25:48He's flying so I'll say yes. You wonder if he goes for sub
- 1:25:52210. Yeah, I was going to say,
- 1:25:54imagine he's sat here next week as a two or nine guy.
- 1:25:57Surely I I think Philip Sussman does finish best of the UK and
- 1:26:04have to just beat all of the Commonwealth people like
- 1:26:09Australians, he's like the first home and he oh does he get an
- 1:26:16Aussie record. What is it?
- 1:26:1806 high or 206 low? 20 Something say see something
- 1:26:23is it? 22 like because he got Sydney
- 1:26:27under his belt, he actually has a good marathon and I yeah, I'm
- 1:26:32going to actually back after he gets does your record Congress.
- 1:26:35Assessment. I'll go to be different.
- 1:26:39I say he beats everyone. To be fair, Sessman has been
- 1:26:42recently talking about shifting his goal posts from 2O six to
- 1:26:47two O 5 something so and he seems that data-driven that he
- 1:26:51knows kind of like what shape he's in and what he's capable
- 1:26:54of. It's all about whether he's ran
- 1:26:56his race in Amsterdam or not. You know, they're all going to
- 1:26:59be there together for a chunk of it.
- 1:27:00You know, like it's going to be, yeah, it's going to be good,
- 1:27:04Good race to follow. Why Jimmy Wheeler not run the
- 1:27:08Aussie cross country trials actually?
- 1:27:10He was on the He's on the start list.
- 1:27:12Yeah, but watch his YouTube. And did you did you listen to
- 1:27:16Freddy? Kudos.
- 1:27:17Apparently he's signed with someone.
- 1:27:19Oh, no, I didn't hear that. Yeah, apparently I did say yes
- 1:27:23on YouTube. I did say, Speaking of powers of
- 1:27:26YouTube, did you see Jack's latest video about the injury
- 1:27:29scare? But then you can jump onto his
- 1:27:31Strava to check to make sure he's still trying to.
- 1:27:35Or how does he? What is he not here?
- 1:27:38Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 1:27:41That's a good share. What?
- 1:27:43What? What are we?
- 1:27:45Yeah. What's our prediction?
- 1:27:46I think he does get a PB but I I love him but I don't think he's
- 1:27:51running sub two time and from 2:14 high to 210 is a crazy
- 1:27:56jump. And yeah, I genuinely wouldn't
- 1:28:00put a pass on, but I think he does get a PB, but I think it's
- 1:28:03like 213 or something like that. Hopefully he doesn't go after
- 1:28:07the 210 because if he does he might not end up with his PB.
- 1:28:11He's becoming more and more Japanese by the day, though, So
- 1:28:14I think did you watch Speaking of his side side quest, but did
- 1:28:21you watch his video with the like I do, I find his content.
- 1:28:25So like he's always so chipper He and like a bit self
- 1:28:28deprecating, but like his his streak of not being able to win
- 1:28:32one of these races in Japan. Yeah.
- 1:28:34Did you say the race where he did a fart leg session and like
- 1:28:37he's like he's like ahead of the group, like getting dropped by
- 1:28:42the group ahead of the group like he's just he's just golden.
- 1:28:46And then sure enough, some bloke runs really fast and scalps him
- 1:28:49again. He's like fuck, another second,
- 1:28:51but I don't know, he's in shape. He's in very good shape.
- 1:28:55So I think yeah, definitely a PB because Tokyo when he ran 2/14,
- 1:28:59remember it was pretty warm. He ended up in the medical tent,
- 1:29:03but again, going pretty hard. So I think PB but yeah, maybe
- 1:29:07not quite two 10210 yeah, ambitious, but you never know.
- 1:29:13His his training is phenomenal. 280K weeks, 40 KSA day.
- 1:29:18It's very impressive. So in amongst all that lot, then
- 1:29:21he could pretend could potentially be running with and
- 1:29:26or end up beating like Frank Gregson based on like his
- 1:29:30aspirations. And I'm sure Gregor wants to run
- 1:29:33to 11 like 212 probably at West. I'd say might feel like his PB
- 1:29:40is a little soft for what it is now and he feels like he he's
- 1:29:43due putting a good one on the board.
- 1:29:45So maybe even he'd be looking at 2:10.
- 1:29:48I have no idea. But when you're looking at these
- 1:29:51lines, like all these boys have run like 6060 odd 61 for the
- 1:29:55half, it's like Jake's a 63 video.
- 1:30:00It's a massive jump if he does and it's a massive gamble to go
- 1:30:04out with them. His ability to convert though
- 1:30:07with the mileage would be better than all of them I would think.
- 1:30:11But any ceilings getting better? Like you can see him getting
- 1:30:16quicker, but yeah, this is how much quicker.
- 1:30:18Yeah. Hopefully, yeah, hopefully takes
- 1:30:22the chunk out of his paper. Actually, I've changed my mind.
- 1:30:25I think he's getting under. I think he's going to get under
- 1:30:27210. I faith he's just a freak.
- 1:30:30His machine, he's going to talk. He's not going to be just like
- 1:30:34leading some trainer Japanese guys.
- 1:30:36He's going to be tucked into the back of the pack, just shutting
- 1:30:39off. Did you say, did you say his
- 1:30:42comments as well? This Bryce was getting strained
- 1:30:46and the rented Japan army were blowing up in the YouTube
- 1:30:49section. He actually hit 100K
- 1:30:52subscribers. Yeah.
- 1:30:53That's all that, yeah. On a date or something, wasn't
- 1:30:56it? Or was he there's?
- 1:30:58No, there's a YouTube documentary or a big documentary
- 1:31:01coming out about it apparently, or something like that.
- 1:31:05Yeah, he said it on the video on the YouTube.
- 1:31:07So I'm. Oh, that's.
- 1:31:08Right, Yes, some like Netflix production like Ask Type, so
- 1:31:12it'll be good. Chris actually messaged me
- 1:31:15saying that, like, did you see Jake's live stream the other
- 1:31:18week? Because I think it when you're
- 1:31:20in live stream, you can like tip or donate or whatever to the
- 1:31:23channel, can't you? And he said he was having to ask
- 1:31:26people to stop donating because the donations are going crazy.
- 1:31:33The Army, just like, yeah, he's got a, he's got like some loyal
- 1:31:38followers, very loyal followers. I hate to take the credit, but
- 1:31:41we sort of like found it joking. But the ironic thing is,
- 1:31:48remember, like at the very start of his journey, he said, I'm
- 1:31:52sure on one of his videos that like, he studied so much about
- 1:31:55like marketing and social media and all this.
- 1:31:58So he's, he's literally not winging it either.
- 1:32:01As much as he doesn't, like, reveal any of this, he's
- 1:32:04probably very deliberate in what he's doing and how he's done it
- 1:32:07so far, which is even more impressive.
- 1:32:09Yeah. He's done it very well.
- 1:32:12And the women's field then at Valencia is headed by a main
- 1:32:16neighbouriso from Ethiopia with the two 1458 and Perez, Jeff
- 1:32:21Chichier. She's I guess the major name.
- 1:32:24216-1616 Jocelyn Jeff Cosguy 2/16/24 You've then got Kira
- 1:32:29d'amato of the USA, Charlotte Purdue from Great Britain, Jess
- 1:32:34Stenson, Izzy Bath Doyle and Jen Gregson from Australia, Emma
- 1:32:38Bates from the US, Rose Harvey from GB and Lindsay Flanagan
- 1:32:42from the US so lots of notable names in amongst there too.
- 1:32:48I guess the main thing that stands out is probably the three
- 1:32:51Australian women, well particularly Izzy and Jess.
- 1:32:56I'm sure we'll be having a little look at that Aussie
- 1:32:59record, whether or not it's a go out with a view to setting it
- 1:33:06all on a good day or like going hard and like throwing every
- 1:33:11everything at it and what do we think?
- 1:33:14I have never heard of that barista one ever.
- 1:33:19Yeah. Yeah, trying to see when she ran
- 1:33:24it. Straight on to it validate.
- 1:33:30Who's her agent? It's been a short minute since
- 1:33:38any of that chat, to be honest. Wherever.
- 1:33:40She ran in 20/22, she ran that 214 in Valencia and her most
- 1:33:45recent one is Boston. This year she ran 221 which I
- 1:33:52wonder where that got her. It's cool to see Charlotte
- 1:33:55Perdue back on her start line. So we've just gone into a World
- 1:33:58Athletics and she's in 2025. She's only ran one race which
- 1:34:02was 1/2 marathon in August, the Antrim one actually remember.
- 1:34:09So interesting to see what she's capable of because she has APB
- 1:34:12of 2/22/17 which would put her on a good day.
- 1:34:18Right in the pack with I guess Izzy and Jess if they were going
- 1:34:22towards Sinead's Aussie record of 221.
- 1:34:26What is it exactly for? Sure, she's part of MTC as well.
- 1:34:28Do you think anyone breaks Sinead's Australian record?
- 1:34:32I think Jess and Izzy both go for it and if I was to pick one,
- 1:34:36I'd pick Izzy for sure. So I think she's a definitely a
- 1:34:40shout. For two 2134 Aussie record
- 1:34:45Aussie slash Irish. Yeah, No, we don't.
- 1:34:47That's all right. Don't.
- 1:34:48You can have her. I think I yeah, I'll be
- 1:34:54optimistic. I hope it goes.
- 1:34:56But like, no, I hope she gets it.
- 1:34:57It's in, you know, runs well. Yeah, I think, I don't know
- 1:35:03about you guys, but definitely me.
- 1:35:05I've almost been deliberate and kind of like not speaking about
- 1:35:09Izzy and air training and like the hush pursues of the
- 1:35:13Australian record at Valencia this year.
- 1:35:15But obviously it's come to the point now where it's next
- 1:35:17weekend because I'm sure she wouldn't be afraid to admit that
- 1:35:23that might be a major goal going into it because she's perhaps
- 1:35:27had a couple of looks at it prior and obviously has fallen
- 1:35:29short so far so. Let's.
- 1:35:31Be real, this is the one. She's gone for it.
- 1:35:33Like the 100% she's gone for it. Why wouldn't she?
- 1:35:37If you're in the shape of your life and your PBS a minute shy
- 1:35:40of it, like, I mean, you're normally in the marathon, you're
- 1:35:44either trying to run the next minute or the next barrier.
- 1:35:48And this happens to be two things.
- 1:35:50So absolutely. To run to run it to 2130 is 321
- 1:35:56per kilometer, so. Yeah, three, 19220 pace, so 2
- 1:36:01seconds at 80 seconds, so yeah, 320 ones.
- 1:36:07She's got so much more wiggle room than Jess and even what
- 1:36:11Sinead had when she ran it as well based on their half PBS.
- 1:36:15Like her half PB smashes them all out the water.
- 1:36:19So she's she's given herself the opportunity through that.
- 1:36:23Yeah, it's hard sometimes with those half PBS because I reckon
- 1:36:27you're in such ripping shape when you put together a marathon
- 1:36:29block, you don't often then have the opportunity two weeks before
- 1:36:33or 4 weeks before to illustrate that full fitness.
- 1:36:36And even if you do, you're probably under heavy training
- 1:36:39fatigue. So never, unless you've really
- 1:36:41targeted 1/2 and got the full result from it, which is he has
- 1:36:46then you. You might not.
- 1:36:48You might be underselling yourself when you do the double
- 1:36:50+7 or whatever you you want to do, but.
- 1:36:54When you first broke 220 because you ran 2/19 at first and yeah,
- 1:36:5856 something just done it, Yeah. What was your half PB going into
- 1:37:03that? 6640 something maybe?
- 1:37:08Yeah, it seems to be for men that you need to like, have a
- 1:37:11bit more in the tank, doesn't it?
- 1:37:14Well, that works out to be so 6645.
- 1:37:19Let's say is 6 1/2 minutes. So that's pretty.
- 1:37:28That's not that's a pretty tight.
- 1:37:30Conversion. Where did you run that?
- 1:37:34Sunshine Coast? Yeah.
- 1:37:36Like this is Valent. Like this is literally made for
- 1:37:39PBS. Like it's pancake flat.
- 1:37:41So yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, it's not a women's only
- 1:37:45field either. Is it that they'll be in massive
- 1:37:49packs with men? Which can work further and
- 1:37:52against them so. But I still think Izzy gets it.
- 1:37:55Yeah, I put money on. I bet she's a coffee and a cross
- 1:37:58on. Izzy gets the women's record.
- 1:38:01And then Rose, to be fair, Rose Harvey, a GB, she's got APB
- 1:38:042/23/21 there, So she could be also in similar packs to them.
- 1:38:09I don't know what the next major step forward is from that, but
- 1:38:15I'm sure the these girls all probably know each other or are
- 1:38:18semi familiar with each other anyway, so they'll they'll be in
- 1:38:21conversations around that. Yeah, very exciting.
- 1:38:23It seems like it's been, well, literally all year in the
- 1:38:26making. Given it happens in December,
- 1:38:28but often you don't look towards a race until like a couple of
- 1:38:32weeks before it and it pops up like, oh shit, that's in a few
- 1:38:35weeks. Whereas Valencia, you just know
- 1:38:37like so many people are looking to do something ridiculous
- 1:38:40there. I'm sure last year they were
- 1:38:42like claiming X amount of national records have been run
- 1:38:46so keen to see how many fall again.
- 1:38:50Lastly of the serious content today.
- 1:38:52Oh you did see this because Owen sent it through do you?
- 1:38:57Do you want to cover it, Owen or?
- 1:39:00To be honest I just seen They want Us This is ground
- 1:39:02soundtrack. They want to try and just pay
- 1:39:05half of the money but World Athletics aren't letting them
- 1:39:08basically. Is it?
- 1:39:10In a nutshell, yeah. So when I looked into it a bit
- 1:39:14more, they've instructed a corporate restructuring company
- 1:39:17and insolvency law firm to start acting on their behalf, which
- 1:39:22doesn't read well in itself, but also makes you wonder, like, are
- 1:39:26they just trying to hide behind that and get a bit of an out
- 1:39:29from it? So they've sent letters to all
- 1:39:31the vendors asking them to accept a 50% payment and also
- 1:39:36making them aware that if they don't a Grand Slam risk going
- 1:39:40bust completely. So I mean kind of trying to
- 1:39:43guilt trip them into accepting it.
- 1:39:45And it also states that all of the vendors must accept the
- 1:39:49terms otherwise no one will get paid.
- 1:39:52So it's proper shit house behaviour.
- 1:39:55So we have they paid half of it. Now they're trying to agree a
- 1:40:00settlements that they only have to pay half.
- 1:40:02Nah fucked them. I'd say pay the full thing and
- 1:40:05just go away. Never appear like pay the people
- 1:40:07their money. So apparently they they still
- 1:40:11owe over $10 million. And this is it's also like it
- 1:40:16depends what way you look at it. But they've apparently told
- 1:40:19these vendors that they've got an outside party who's expressed
- 1:40:22interest in acquiring the league and looking at refinancing them
- 1:40:26and clear and all the debts. But I reckon they're just trying
- 1:40:30to bolster the vendors up to accept this, these 50% terms and
- 1:40:34make them think like they might get full settlements in the
- 1:40:38future and it's just never going to happen.
- 1:40:39And they just want the 50% settlement.
- 1:40:42And then apparently there's mixed responses like Summer will
- 1:40:45and say yes, some are looking to take them to court or there's
- 1:40:50obviously a not willing to say yes, which I think they should
- 1:40:54stand by that and say no. MJ once again doesn't look good.
- 1:41:00He needs to just get a life and paid.
- 1:41:02I was on pocket at this stage. He ruined his name.
- 1:41:06He actually ruined his name. Do you think he was dope?
- 1:41:14YouTube Diaries we're going to assign to the Valencia preview
- 1:41:18of Phil Sussman, Alexy and Amir Caress, because if you haven't
- 1:41:23seen it already, go and check that video out.
- 1:41:25The three of them are doing fizzy, bizarre things up and
- 1:41:29down that canal in Leeds where Phil beasts his two dogs, like,
- 1:41:36puts 100 miles into them each week.
- 1:41:39Have you seen? Apparently one of them can like,
- 1:41:41handle it better than the other? So like one of them goes on all
- 1:41:44those double S and stuff, whereas the other one like only
- 1:41:47gets to go out on a select few. Is that is pekili injured a bit
- 1:41:51and kick chug is pretty? And he sometimes puts up that,
- 1:41:57like he feeds them pies afterwards and some obviously
- 1:42:02sometimes only one of them gets a pie.
- 1:42:04And the other ones like sat there devastated because it
- 1:42:06didn't go on the run, so it doesn't get its pie.
- 1:42:09Poor dogs. But that I think they are either
- 1:42:15all of them are sponsored by chorus or chorus a sponsor in
- 1:42:18the series. So they pull all like the data
- 1:42:21behind the sessions as well, like all the heart rates, all
- 1:42:24the the paces. And Alex Yi has shared Chorus's
- 1:42:28predicted marathon time for him, which is pretty bold to do so
- 1:42:33ahead of the race considering I think it's said he'll run two O
- 1:42:36546. Two O 5 Who's this?
- 1:42:42Alex Yi. Wow, I don't believe any of that
- 1:42:45shit though. My watch says I'll run a 15
- 1:42:47minute 5 can. I'm pretty sure I can run a
- 1:42:48little bit faster. Yeah, I don't think they're the
- 1:42:51most accurate, are they? I mean, on YouTube Diaries,
- 1:42:54Alexei himself has his own channel as well and one of the
- 1:42:59videos I watched earlier on in the build, but he's still
- 1:43:02referenced in Valencia. But he was, he went dipped his
- 1:43:05toes back into the try scene and he was doing a few races there.
- 1:43:08I think it was like this super Sprint series or something.
- 1:43:12And it showed that he was getting beaten up by some of the
- 1:43:16triathletes who he would have previously wiped the floor with.
- 1:43:19And he's saying, like, I just this is hard, but I have to
- 1:43:22accept that I've made the choice basically to sacrifice some
- 1:43:27recycling and swimming to try and become a better runner.
- 1:43:31So some good insights there. And Kenji features throughout
- 1:43:36because he's at the the series. He wins it though, doesn't he?
- 1:43:40He might do in the end, but on the ones that he was documenting
- 1:43:44here, he wasn't. Because like a really short form
- 1:43:471 and I think he ends up winning that one.
- 1:43:51But yeah, I'm not sure if we're on about the same video though.
- 1:43:56But he's a really good YouTube. Double trouble.
- 1:43:58Anyone got anything springing to mind?
- 1:44:01Yeah, Chorus. While we're on the topic, did
- 1:44:05you know they? Just completely bare and bred
- 1:44:07bridges with another brand here. Do you know Dave?
- 1:44:10And you watch out, appreciate the whole fucking world notice
- 1:44:16and you watch out everywhere you look on social media, you see
- 1:44:20some person or team or raving about this pace for I don't
- 1:44:28know, it's like fair play to them.
- 1:44:30Get the word out there, but it's a little bit much like I
- 1:44:33wouldn't mind the watch. It's probably very good watch,
- 1:44:36but I don't think it can store music or anything like that.
- 1:44:39But yeah, I don't know, I just, I'm getting a bit overwhelmed
- 1:44:43from chorus recently. I need to.
- 1:44:45Take a step back. You're.
- 1:44:48Big on the marketing. Your last rant about Saw
- 1:44:54products though seemed to hit home hit be well received by
- 1:44:59some viewers. We might have something in that
- 1:45:01space coming out as a rival to Saw products.
- 1:45:05So watch this space. Don't get me started on sore
- 1:45:11again. Yeah, my mom, actually, she went
- 1:45:13up to a running shop in Dublin and she's looking for, like,
- 1:45:17shorts for my brother. And she's like, oh, and what you
- 1:45:20think of these? I just sent you a picture of the
- 1:45:22sore ones. I was like, Mom, no, please
- 1:45:24don't. Yeah, she she, not she.
- 1:45:31Seen the price tag? No, she didn't see the price
- 1:45:34tag. You tell.
- 1:45:34I was like, mom, look at the price tag.
- 1:45:39They got put straight back. But I said a good quality, I
- 1:45:44mean. Just for some balance, I
- 1:45:46actually wear a chorus. Yeah, I know.
- 1:45:49We know it's just American. Yeah, they're, they're making
- 1:45:54is. Just that.
- 1:45:54Just. Like it man was it.
- 1:46:00Man was sweating bullets when he rode past yesterday.
- 1:46:06Do you not think it's everywhere though?
- 1:46:07The watch, like every single person is just pushing it and
- 1:46:12like, is it any better? I'd yeah, I don't want to get.
- 1:46:17Started. I mean, realistically if Chorus
- 1:46:20emailed us next week and said we want to pay you X amount of
- 1:46:23money to talk about this new watch on your podcast next week
- 1:46:28and I'm already wearing it. We're not really going to say no
- 1:46:31though, are we? But like they brought out this
- 1:46:35pace pro and the Pace 3 and they try and justify a price
- 1:46:40difference by like a brighter screen.
- 1:46:44Like the same. They literally have the same
- 1:46:46functionality, just one has a brighter screen.
- 1:46:50I do remember actually Jake doing a video on the brightness
- 1:46:54of their screens. Yeah, that's what they're
- 1:46:56selling point does. And this one, it's so light,
- 1:46:59like, like what difference is a couple of grams on your wrist
- 1:47:04going to make for when you're running a fucking race?
- 1:47:06And even them singlets are sore around with this jacket that's
- 1:47:09like such and such lie. I'm like, no, I want a jacket to
- 1:47:13actually stop the rain, like making me wet.
- 1:47:16Like I don't care about how light it is.
- 1:47:17I just want to actually. Work.
- 1:47:20I want my GPS to be unfriendly so I can crop it and get a
- 1:47:24faster payday. So.
- 1:47:29With the source stuff I'm too much of A minge bag to pay for
- 1:47:33that pay that much for running gear, but I would genuinely be
- 1:47:37intrigued to try it because it is supposed to be ridiculously
- 1:47:42good quality. Yeah, and I'd say it is.
- 1:47:45Been there. We've been there.
- 1:47:46It. Is but is enough quality to
- 1:47:48charge an extra £200? I doubt it.
- 1:47:51Like I know I felt like I now go to, I think the Catalan is in
- 1:47:55Australia. Is it?
- 1:47:58Well, a lot of the Catalan within the Catalan, there's like
- 1:48:00a brand called Kipron which is actually sponsoring runners now.
- 1:48:04But like their stuff is so cheap and like it's perfect.
- 1:48:08Like I've got a pair of their shorts.
- 1:48:09Like their shorts are like €20, which I don't know what is an
- 1:48:12Aussie dollar, maybe 36 odd Aussie dollar, which for a pair
- 1:48:16of running shorts is super, super cheap, but they're
- 1:48:17actually really good quality as well.
- 1:48:19Like, yeah, I don't know. They sponsor Jimmy Gracia them
- 1:48:24they pay him a shit ton. He'd go like for nice brand
- 1:48:27reached. That's one to me.
- 1:48:28I'd fucking jump at it as well, but he's definitely getting a
- 1:48:30fat bag. Are there any small startup
- 1:48:34Irish brands in the running space?
- 1:48:36No, not really. Not that I can think of off the
- 1:48:38top of my head. What was he sent the Steven
- 1:48:42Scullion 262 is it? Yeah, something like that.
- 1:48:47Right, gone. We're we're well done.

- 1:48:53Valencia. See you.
