- 0:00Genesis chapter 17, Let us pray. Our Father, Lord of all, the
- 0:11Lord of everything, the entire earth, everything is under your
- 0:17full control, Lord. Everything is in complete
- 0:22subjection to your power, Your word.
- 0:27God, we are so thankful that we can know you and be known by you
- 0:31that we are attached to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
- 0:36the God of Israel. We thank you, Father, for for
- 0:40revealing yourself to us. We thank you, God, that you have
- 0:46searched us. Lord, pull out all the iniquity
- 0:50and the dross, all of the imperfections.
- 0:52God, I pray that we can be holy as you are.
- 0:55Holy Father, I pray for our family.
- 0:59I pray for our loved ones. God, I pray for our nation.
- 1:04God, I pray, Lord, in the mighty name of Jesus, for revival to
- 1:10break out upon this entire globe, every continent, every
- 1:15people group. God bring them into the fold.
- 1:18Lord. I pray that you will help us
- 1:21Lord to be your hands and feet. Help us to know that you are for
- 1:25us and not against us Lord, and that you are fighting our
- 1:28battles. God, I pray that you will help
- 1:31us to walk in our bridal identity.
- 1:34Help us to have the peace God, as our minds are stayed upon
- 1:38you. Lord, You are no respecter of
- 1:42persons. God, you call all unto yourself
- 1:46all people groups. Lord, I thank you God that you
- 1:51have helped us to understand who you are.
- 1:54The great I am the creator of everything seen and unseen by
- 2:01the blood of Jesus Christ. We come into the holiest of holy
- 2:04places. You RIP the veil from top to
- 2:08bottom so that we can come in and dine and Sup with you.
- 2:11Father. You lead us, God, and the quiet
- 2:15places and the still small places.
- 2:18God, I thank you, God, that You are near to us.
- 2:22I thank you that You have spoken to us through Your revealed
- 2:25word. I thank you God for salvation
- 2:28and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.
- 2:30I thank you God, that you have given us power from on high,
- 2:34Lord, to see this world all around us the way that you do.
- 2:38Father, unstop our ears, take the blinders off God, and help
- 2:42us to come in and to see you rightly high and lifted up.
- 2:46Lord, we look upon you. Lord, we receive our salvation.
- 2:51Thank you Jesus, thank you God Almighty, let your words jump
- 2:55off the page. God, give us sound doctrine and
- 2:59sound theology. God, I pray that you will bind
- 3:02the enemy from off of this time. God, give us the freedom that
- 3:06comes from the Holy Spirit's presence.
- 3:08Thank you Father, in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, I pray,
- 3:13Amen. Well, let's start in verse one.
- 3:19And when Abram was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and
- 3:27said to him, I am the Almighty God, walk before me and you be
- 3:32perfect. It's the same mandate that He
- 3:35places upon your life and upon my life, believer.
- 3:39He tells us to be holy because He is holy.
- 3:42And here we can see this long time of Abram waiting upon the
- 3:47promise of God. He told him that he would be a
- 3:51father of the nations. And now we can see that he's
- 3:55been waiting for so long. He's already moved in
- 3:58disobedience down into Egypt. He's already moved in
- 4:01disobedience by having relations with Hagar and having Ishmael.
- 4:06And God had had a plan for him. And here we can see that he's 99
- 4:11years old. He had had the call to leave the
- 4:14UR, the Chaldees, and go in to the Promised Land at 75.
- 4:20And here we are at 99 and he's still trying to figure this
- 4:24thing out and he's waiting upon God.
- 4:26And God is so incredibly, wonderfully present in his life.
- 4:32And he shows up and speaks to him and tells him to walk in his
- 4:38ways and to be perfect in his ways.
- 4:41And it is the same mandate that you and I have.
- 4:44We can be holy because He is holy. 2 and I will make my
- 4:49covenant between me and you and will multiply you exceedingly.
- 4:54So Abram is going to become Abraham, the father of many
- 4:58nations, and God is going to make a covenant and he's going
- 5:03to swear by no other higher authority than himself, and He's
- 5:07not even going to ask Abram to sign the agreement.
- 5:12God swears by His own self because there is no one higher.
- 5:16Verse 3 And Abram fell on his face and God talked with him,
- 5:20saying, just by the way, that is the only appropriate response.
- 5:25When God's Shekinah glory comes in the room, you cannot even
- 5:28minister. It is to fall like a dead man on
- 5:31your face, and he is the only one that can gird up your loin,
- 5:35so that you can stand in his presence.
- 5:39For As for me, behold, my covenant is with you, and you
- 5:44shall be a father of many nations.
- 5:47So Abram is about to become Abraham. 5 Neither shall your
- 5:52name anymore be called Abram, for your name shall be called
- 5:56Abraham, father of many nations, because I have made you so.
- 6:01That is God's promise to Abraham.
- 6:03He told him to go outside and look at the stars, and he would
- 6:06have more descendants than the stars in the sky or the grains
- 6:10of sand on the seashore. Think about it, friends, what a
- 6:14promise. And here this fatherless man,
- 6:18this childless man is wondering how it could be so.
- 6:22And he tried to outpace God by having a child with Hagar.
- 6:28And now you can see God's going to make good on his promise from
- 6:31so long ago. And we need the ability to wait.
- 6:35Well, we cannot outpace God. We do not need to be found the
- 6:39people who accept God's word. And then we go and try to
- 6:43manufacture it ourselves. Far be it from us to ever be
- 6:47those people. 6 And I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I
- 6:55will make nations of you, and kings shall come out of you.
- 6:59So not only will he have children, friends, but nations
- 7:03will come out of this nation. And we see that Israel, the God
- 7:07of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob the God of Israel, friends, we can
- 7:11see that they are the light unto the world, that they are meant
- 7:15to point all nations unto Yahweh everlasting.
- 7:20He revealed himself unto Abraham.
- 7:23Abraham was in the earth, the Chaldees, probably an idol
- 7:26worshipper, and God called him out to the one true living God,
- 7:30the Creator of everything seen and unseen, the only uncreated.
- 7:35Every other God is an idol and that is what you need to
- 7:39understand. The fact that we can even know
- 7:42Him and be known by Him and that we can even have a relationship
- 7:46with God through Jesus Christ is remarkable.
- 7:51It is miraculous in the complete sense of it all when you sit and
- 7:56really ponder upon it. Friends, it is incredibly
- 8:01blessed to know Him and to be known by Him, and you do not
- 8:06want to be those who stand before God and give him your
- 8:09pedigree. And he says, depart from me, for
- 8:11I never knew you. 7 And I will establish my covenant between me
- 8:17and you, your seed after you in their generations, for an
- 8:21everlasting covenant to be a God unto you, and your seed after
- 8:27you. So God is promising that he's
- 8:29never going to leave them, never going to forsake him.
- 8:32And that doesn't mean that they will not be disciplined,
- 8:35friends. God disciplines those that he
- 8:37loves. Never forget that.
- 8:39And just because they know Yahweh doesn't mean that they
- 8:43are completely innocent friends. They have to give an account for
- 8:48the things that they do. And we cannot move in spiritual
- 8:54superiority thinking that anything and everything that we
- 8:58do is blessed and covered. Friends, we need to know that
- 9:02there is for sure going to have to come and answering for the
- 9:08actions that we do while we are in the fold friends, and that is
- 9:14a hard lesson for many. We cannot just be like the
- 9:18Israelites who say we have the temple of the Lord and think
- 9:22that the promised land was never going to be invaded because God
- 9:25will send you into captivity if you do not adhere to what He
- 9:31wants from you and it will be for a lesson and He'll never
- 9:34leave you or forsake you. And all the wrath of God was
- 9:38satisfied at the cross of Christ.
- 9:40Praise God, Hallelujah and Amen. But God can use it without
- 9:44excusing it. And you will have to give an
- 9:47account, Friends. 8 And I will give unto you, and after your
- 9:51seed, after you, the land wherein you are a stranger, all
- 9:57the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I
- 10:02will be their God. So here you can see that the
- 10:06land of Israel is for a perpetual blessing, a covenant
- 10:12that God has made with the ethnic Jews friend there.
- 10:16It is their rightful place, and it is where Jesus Christ will
- 10:20literally and geographically rule from for the thousand year
- 10:24reign. 9 And God said unto Abraham, You shall keep my
- 10:31covenant there for you, your seed after you in their
- 10:35generation. So here we can see that God is
- 10:38going to enact the circumcision as a sign of the covenant,
- 10:44friends, and God knows what he's doing.
- 10:47And this is a wonderful advancement in the scientific
- 10:52community to keep the disease away, friends.
- 10:56And God knows what he's doing. 10 This is my covenant, which
- 11:01you shall keep between me and you, your seed.
- 11:06After you, every man child living among you shall be
- 11:10circumcised. So here we can see that this is
- 11:14a wonderful sign. And not only does it have a
- 11:17spiritual connotation, but it also has the physical health
- 11:22benefits as well. 11 And you shall circumcise the flesh of
- 11:26your foreskin, and it shall be a token of the covenant between me
- 11:30and you. So God here he tells Abraham
- 11:34that every single person who is in his household should be
- 11:38circumcised. 12 And he that is 8 days old shall be circumcised
- 11:43among you, every man child in your generations, he that is
- 11:47born in the house or bought with money of any stranger which is
- 11:50not of your seed. So here you can see that it also
- 11:54goes out towards those that are underneath the umbrella of the
- 12:00banner of Yahweh, all those who come into the fold.
- 12:04This is for anyone who has called themselves by the name of
- 12:10the Lord. And you can see here that God is
- 12:13serious about it. And we also know that in the New
- 12:18Testament, Paul is going to explain this and he's going to
- 12:22tell us that it is the circumcision of the heart post
- 12:26the cross of Christ. And that is what we need.
- 12:29We need the foreskin of our heart to be sized, and the
- 12:34unregenerated man to become renewed and regenerated, and to
- 12:39put on the new man. 13 He that is born in your house, and he
- 12:47that is bought with your money must needs be circumcised, and
- 12:51my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting
- 12:55covenant. So God here he gives them a sign
- 12:59that he is their God, and that they are his people. 14 And the
- 13:05uncircumcised man, whose flesh of his foreskin is not
- 13:09circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people.
- 13:13He has broken my covenant. So here this is a New Testament
- 13:18thought, that the unregenerated man will not be passed over in
- 13:24the day of judgment. 15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai
- 13:30your wife, you shall not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall
- 13:36be her name. So here we can see that the
- 13:40promise concerning Isaac in the line of Christ is about to be
- 13:44revealed. 16 And I will bless her, and give you a son also of
- 13:51her. Yeah, I will bless her, and she
- 13:54shall be a mother of nations, kings of people shall be of her.
- 13:58So here comes the line of Christ through Sarah. 17 Then Abraham
- 14:05fell upon his face, and laughed, and said, In his heart, shall a
- 14:12child be born unto him that is 100 years old?
- 14:16And shall Sarah, that is 90 years old bear with man?
- 14:24This is impossible. But nothing is impossible for
- 14:28our God. You must have the faith of a
- 14:31child. You must believe that God can
- 14:36literally do anything. He is not limited, and you
- 14:44cannot put him into a box. 18 And Abraham said unto God, Oh,
- 14:51that Ishmael might live before you.
- 14:55So here he's trying to put God in a box.
- 14:57Let's see what God says. 19 And God said, Sarah, your wife shall
- 15:03bear you a son indeed, and you shall call his name Isaac, And I
- 15:09will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant,
- 15:13and with his seed after him. So you can see here the son of
- 15:17promise. You can see that Isaac is
- 15:20laughter. And we see that not only did
- 15:24Abraham laugh within himself, but Sarah later is going to
- 15:28laugh because it is ridiculous. Friends, this notion of these
- 15:33elderly people being able to actually conceive and actually
- 15:38live through the pregnancy and the birth of a child.
- 15:41But to God, nothing is impossible.
- 15:44And unless you have that faith, then you will doubt all of the
- 15:48miraculous things within the Bible and the things happening
- 15:53all around you. And you will try to relegate
- 15:56them to any kind of supernatural.
- 15:59You'll try to relegate them to all kinds of the metaphysical.
- 16:04You'll try to relegate them into explaining them away by science
- 16:09and all the things that happen. And we must have the faith of a
- 16:13child and believe that Daddy can do anything, and our daddy is
- 16:20stronger than yours. 20 And that's for Ishmael.
- 16:32I have heard you. Behold, I have blessed him and
- 16:38will make him fruitful and will multiply him exceedingly. 12
- 16:44Princess shall he have, and I will make him a great nation.
- 16:49Is this not what we have seen? God could have done away with
- 16:53him a long time ago, but he has a plan for that nation, friends,
- 16:58and we do not need to be hateful towards our Muslim brothers.
- 17:04We need to understand that it is not people who are the problem,
- 17:09it is the Spirit behind them. And God has a wonderful plan for
- 17:14them and for that nation, and He has allowed them to be fruitful
- 17:18and to multiply. And he's visiting them in dreams
- 17:22and visions, friends, and he's bringing many into the fold. 21
- 17:28But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall
- 17:34bear to you at this set time next year.
- 17:38So he gives him an entire calendar and tells him that he
- 17:43will mark his promise by the fact that he is going to
- 17:48foreshore 100% have a son born unto him one year from this
- 17:53visitation from God. 22 And he left off talking with him, and
- 17:58God went up from Abraham. What an amazing thought that God
- 18:04has come and he has actually taken up residence, and he is
- 18:09talking with Abraham. 23 And Abraham took Ishmael his son,
- 18:16and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought
- 18:20with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and
- 18:25he circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the self same
- 18:28day as God had said unto him. Radical obedience.
- 18:35That is what God calls for. We cannot drag our feet when God
- 18:40speaks a very specific word unto us.
- 18:43We need immediate radical obedience, friends, and that is
- 18:47what Abraham has displayed here. Imagine the bloody mess of this
- 18:53scene. 24. At Abraham was 99 years old when
- 19:01he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin. 25.
- 19:05In Ishmael his son was 13 years old when he was circumcised in
- 19:10the flesh of his foreskin. What complete trust this little
- 19:15boy has with his father to allow this?
- 19:1926 The self same day was Abraham circumcised and Ishmael his son
- 19:25will end on 27th and all the men of his house born in the house
- 19:29and bought with money of the stranger were circumcised with
- 19:32him, not one left off. What a scene can you even
- 19:40imagine? Our God is a mighty God.
- 19:47He wanted them and He wants us to be circumcised.
- 19:51For them it was the foreskin, for us it is the heart and it
- 19:55shows that we belong to Him and we are called by His name.
- 19:58We are Christian little Christ. What an amazing book that we
- 20:05hold in our hands. It's alive and active and it's
- 20:08reading you as you read it. And don't take my word for it,
- 20:12just take a look. It's in the book.
- 20:16There's a rainbow above his throne.
- 20:20I hope you've been blessed by this amazing chapter in God's
- 20:22word. I know I sure have.
- 20:30Praying for every single one of you.
- 20:35I love you. So does God be blessed today.
- 20:45See you back here tomorrow. God bless you.
