- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. Good to have you here again. Luna: Hey Lucas, great to be back. Last episode I made a doctor's appointment in Dutch. I'm still proud of that. Lucas: You should be. That 'Ik wil een afspraak maken' is solid. Today, let's go somewhere a bit more fun — a restaurant. Luna: Oh, I like that. I'm always hungry. Lucas: Perfect. So today we'll learn how to ask for the menu in Dutch. Ready? Luna: Ready. Let's do it. Lucas: Okay, first phrase: 'De menukaart, alstublieft.' It means 'The menu, please.' Listen again: De menukaart, alstublieft. Luna: De menukaart, alstublieft. Lucas: Good. Now say it with me: De menukaart, alstublieft. Luna: De menukaart, alstublieft. Lucas: Now let's make it a question. 'Mag ik de menukaart?' — 'May I have the menu?' Luna: Mag ik de menukaart? Lucas: Great. So you can use 'De menukaart, alstublieft' as a polite request, or 'Mag ik...' to ask permission. Both work. Luna: So I could say 'Mag ik de menukaart?' when I sit down. Lucas: Exactly. And a slightly more formal way: 'Ik wil graag de menukaart.' — 'I would like the menu, please.' Luna: Ik wil graag de menukaart. Lucas: Nice. And if you want to ask how much something costs, you can say 'Hoeveel kost het?' — 'How much does it cost?' Luna: Hoeveel kost het? Lucas: Perfect. Let's put these together in a little scene. You're at a restaurant in Amsterdam. The waiter comes over. You say: 'De menukaart, alstublieft.' Luna: De menukaart, alstublieft. Lucas: The waiter gives you the menu. You look at it and ask: 'Hoeveel kost het?' Luna: Hoeveel kost het? Lucas: Now you're all set. But let's do a quick recap. First, 'De menukaart, alstublieft.' Luna: De menukaart, alstublieft. Lucas: 'Mag ik de menukaart?' Luna: Mag ik de menukaart? Lucas: 'Ik wil graag de menukaart.' Luna: Ik wil graag de menukaart. Lucas: And 'Hoeveel kost het?' Luna: Hoeveel kost het?
