- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo! I'm Lucas, and with me is the wonderful Luna. Luna: Hey everyone! Ready for another tiny lesson? I'm feeling pretty good today. In fact, I'm feeling... very good! Lucas: Oh, 'very good' — that's actually our topic today! We're going to learn two small but powerful words: 'sana' and 'kidogo'. Luna: Ooh, I think I've heard 'sana' before. Doesn't it mean very or a lot? Lucas: Exactly right! 'Sana' means 'very' or 'much'. It adds emphasis. And 'kidogo' means 'a little' or 'a few'. Let's start with 'sana'. Repeat after me: sana. Luna: Sana. Lucas: Perfect. Now, you remember 'asante' from an earlier episode? That's 'thank you'. So if you want to say 'thank you very much', you say: asante sana. Luna: Asante sana. Lucas: Beautiful. And if someone offers you something and you want just a little, you say: kidogo tu. 'Tu' means 'only' or 'just', so 'kidogo tu' is 'just a little'. Luna: Kidogo tu. Got it! So if I'm at the market and someone asks if I want a lot of rice, I can say 'kidogo tu'. Lucas: Exactly! Let's practice with some emotions we learned before. Remember 'Nina furaha' — I'm happy? Now add 'sana': Nina furaha sana. I'm very happy. Luna: Nina furaha sana. I like that! What about sad? 'Nina huzuni'? Lucas: Great memory! So if you're just a little sad, you say: Nina huzuni kidogo. Luna: Nina huzuni kidogo. That rolls off the tongue. So 'sana' makes it stronger, 'kidogo' makes it softer. Lucas: You got it. Now let's do a mini conversation. I'll be the shopkeeper. I say: 'Unataka wali?' — Do you want rice? You say: 'Ndiyo, kidogo tu.' Go ahead. Luna: Ndiyo, kidogo tu. Lucas: Perfect. And if I ask 'Unataka sukari?' — Do you want sugar? You could say: 'Ndiyo, sana!' if you want a lot. Luna: Ndiyo, sana! Actually, I think I'll stick with kidogo on that one. Lucas: Wise choice. Now let's review all four phrases: asante sana, kidogo tu, nina furaha sana, nina huzuni kidogo. Luna: Asante sana. Kidogo tu. Nina furaha sana. Nina huzuni kidogo. Lucas: Amazing! Now try mixing them up. Say 'thank you very much' in Swahili. Luna: Asante sana. Lucas: And 'just a little'? Luna: Kidogo tu. Lucas: And 'I'm very happy'? Luna: Nina furaha sana. Lucas: You did it. Feel free to use 'sana' and 'kidogo' with any adjective or verb you already know. For example, 'baridi sana' — very cold, 'jua kidogo' — a little sun. Luna: Baridi sana — I remember that from the weather episode! And 'jua kidogo' sounds nice. Lucas: Exactly. Now, as we wrap up, let's hear all six target phrases one more time: sana, kidogo, asante sana, kidogo tu, nina furaha sana, nina huzuni kidogo. Luna: Sana. Kidogo. Asante sana. Kidogo tu. Nina furaha sana. Nina huzuni kidogo. I love it! Lucas: And we love having you. That's all for this episode of Learn Swahili with Fexingo. Practice these words in your daily life — you'll be amazed how often they come up. See you next time! Luna: Kwaheri! Asante sana!
