- 0:59Speaker 1: We're going to have the top five biggest disappointments in
- 1:04Speaker 1: college football coming up. Chad, we're also going to have
- 1:07Speaker 1: later this week, we're going to rank the chaos of
- 1:09Speaker 1: the SEC. And who's ahead of which SEC program right
- 1:15Speaker 1: now in team, which is going to be difficult. The
- 1:18Speaker 1: committee is going to have a crazy year sorting out
- 1:21Speaker 1: the 12 that are getting into the playoff, the final
- 1:24Speaker 1: year of the 12. But we're headed for a– it's
- 1:29Speaker 1: going to be a lot of teams. How many? Nine
- 1:34Speaker 1: and three? Right now we could have nine, nine and
- 1:37Speaker 1: three teams in the quest that the SEC wants here?
- 1:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know that the SEC necessarily wants this,
- 1:43Speaker 2: but this is a possibility. This is from Brad Crawford
- 1:46Speaker 2: of 24-7 Sports. He's calling it the SEC chaos quest
- 1:50Speaker 2: for nine 9-3 teams. There are 36 remaining outcomes needing
- 1:56Speaker 2: for this to happen, or sorry, 36 outcomes to happen
- 1:59Speaker 2: at midseason for it to hit. Over the weekend, the
- 2:02Speaker 2: league went 5-5. So at the midseason mark, 36 needed
- 2:06Speaker 2: to hit. 5-5 this weekend, 31 outcomes remain where there
- 2:11Speaker 2: could be nine 9-3 teams in the SEC that And
- 2:15Speaker 2: having not just to sort through that for the playoff,
- 2:17Speaker 2: but who is in the SEC championship, you know, if
- 2:21Speaker 2: there's a log jam at the top to that level.
- 2:23Speaker 2: I mean, I really do believe now before it was, okay,
- 2:26Speaker 2: you have three losses, you're out of playoff consideration.
- 2:29Speaker 1: Now you're in.
- 2:29Speaker 2: That's not the case. You're still very much in the
- 2:32Speaker 2: hunt with three losses. Four losses is the mark now.
- 2:36Speaker 2: That's why South Carolina-Oklahoma is an elimination game for the
- 2:39Speaker 2: playoff this weekend. South Carolina at Oklahoma both have three losses.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Whoever loses that game is out. You're just looking now
- 2:47Speaker 2: for teams to knock themselves out of playoff contention with
- 2:50Speaker 2: a fourth loss. Arkansas out. Vandy out. Oklahoma or South
- 2:55Speaker 2: Carolina will be out this weekend. I think A &
- 2:58Speaker 2: M has four losses, too.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Did you say state?
- 3:01Speaker 2: Mississippi State, I think, has four losses, right?
- 3:03Speaker 1: I think so.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Texas A & M.
- 3:05Speaker 1: A & M.
- 3:05Speaker 2: A & M has four losses. So those teams are out.
- 3:10Speaker 2: Ranking these teams right here is a difficult task when
- 3:14Speaker 2: you look at Kentucky at 7-1. I mean, Kentucky has
- 3:19Speaker 2: earned the right to be the best in that group
- 3:21Speaker 2: right now. Do I think they're the best of those teams?
- 3:25Speaker 2: I don't. I do not. I would take Tennessee. I
- 3:29Speaker 2: would take Alabama, who we saw destroy Kentucky on the road.
- 3:33Speaker 2: I would take Texas. I would take Ole Miss. Probably
- 3:37Speaker 2: ahead of Kentucky right now. I would not take Florida.
- 3:41Speaker 2: I don't think I would take Missouri. I'd take LSU.
- 3:43Speaker 2: If I'm picking a head-to-head late in the year, even
- 3:45Speaker 2: though LSU lost a close one at Kentucky, I think
- 3:49Speaker 2: LSU's going to end up being the better team.
- 3:51Speaker 1: But here's the crazy part about everything. Right now, if
- 3:53Speaker 1: you had Kentucky for the SEC to win... you'd be
- 3:58Speaker 1: offered a buyout. You'd be offered a cash out right
- 4:00Speaker 1: now at Hard Rock bet. At this point in the season,
- 4:04Speaker 1: they would be offering you to cash out right now,
- 4:07Speaker 1: which is nuts. And same thing for the, I know
- 4:11Speaker 1: 31 results remain, but you could also cash out on
- 4:13Speaker 1: that probably based on the fact that you went five
- 4:15Speaker 1: for five this past weekend, if that was a huge
- 4:17Speaker 1: parlay moment. This is exactly, I mean, we compare the
- 4:22Speaker 1: SEC and we compare the power to to the NFL.
- 4:27Speaker 1: You know, the NFL is built. They want, they want
- 4:30Speaker 1: eight and eight, you know, they, they want 500, which
- 4:33Speaker 1: you can't finish 500 now, but they, they want that parody.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And this is what we have now within college football,
- 4:39Speaker 1: but really we've got that within the SEC. We don't
- 4:42Speaker 1: have it yet within the big 10, but we, we
- 4:45Speaker 1: can certainly be headed there based on some results that
- 4:47Speaker 1: we're watching right now across that conference.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Yeah. Really funny SEC short this week, where is a parody,
- 4:54Speaker 2: an SEC horror story. And it was a Halloween-themed thing
- 4:57Speaker 2: where a parody comes knocking for everyone. Once you think
- 4:59Speaker 2: you've got it good, someone's going to come in and
- 5:01Speaker 2: knock you off. It's a new world of what to
- 5:05Speaker 2: expect from week to week. And look, I think ultimately
- 5:09Speaker 2: this is going to be a very healthy thing for
- 5:11Speaker 2: the sport. It's going to take a big adjustment for
- 5:15Speaker 2: fans to figure out how this thing works now. But yeah,
- 5:21Speaker 2: overall I think it makes things more exciting for The
- 5:24Speaker 2: games on Saturday have never been better. When you talk
- 5:27Speaker 2: about the wild swings of emotion, I've always thought if
- 5:32Speaker 2: you could, what college football does, and it's my favorite sport,
- 5:36Speaker 2: but when you mix the environment and the emotion of
- 5:39Speaker 2: that sport, if you could combine that with the close
- 5:43Speaker 2: games we see across the NFL most weeks, and truly
- 5:48Speaker 2: you don't know what's going to happen, the unpredictable nature
- 5:50Speaker 2: of the NFL, you're starting to blend those two now
- 5:53Speaker 2: which to me makes college football a way better product
- 5:56Speaker 2: than the NFL if they can get more of that
- 5:58Speaker 2: parity in it. We're seeing that now in the SEC,
- 6:02Speaker 2: but we're still going to have the bottom of these
- 6:06Speaker 2: conferences that are not going to be competitive in certain years.
- 6:08Speaker 2: We're seeing the Big Ten right now. There's going to
- 6:11Speaker 2: be a lot of that too.
- 6:12Speaker 1: You're still going to have, in the NFL, if you
- 6:14Speaker 1: just look at the lines week to week, everything's below
- 6:16Speaker 1: double digits. Everything's really within seven and a half, a
- 6:20Speaker 1: one possession Vegas line, a Vegas spread. For the most part.
- 6:25Speaker 1: But you still have the double-digit teams in the weekends
- 6:29Speaker 1: in the NFL. We still have the very high spreads
- 6:36Speaker 1: in the SEC and the Big Ten. If we start
- 6:40Speaker 1: to see those drop from Vegas, and we are, that's
- 6:43Speaker 1: when you see the real parity of everything. Because Vegas knows, Chad.
- 6:46Speaker 1: They always know.
- 6:47Speaker 2: But I'll also say there's been some 20-point– You know,
- 6:51Speaker 2: Auburn won as a 20-point underdog.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yeah, 20 and a half. At Georgia, I think. Yeah, exactly.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So we've seen like 20-plus points. But I'll also say,
- 6:59Speaker 2: Vandy's in dead last in the SEC. They were on
- 7:02Speaker 2: the road at first place Kentucky.
- 7:04Speaker 1: 11 and a half.
- 7:05Speaker 2: I get that it's Kentucky and they've way– And it dropped.
- 7:09Speaker 2: They've way swung above their weight class this year in
- 7:11Speaker 2: terms of expectations. So it's not like they're playing Georgia,
- 7:14Speaker 2: who is expected to be there, or an LSU. Right.
- 7:16Speaker 2: 11 and a half point line. That's last place on
- 7:20Speaker 2: the road at first place. In the SEC. That's a
- 7:23Speaker 2: substantial line, but that's not gigantic for a game like that.
- 7:27Speaker 2: Kentucky ends up winning by 17, kind of late in
- 7:31Speaker 2: the game. They pull away, right? That's better for the
- 7:35Speaker 2: conference is what I'm saying.
- 7:36Speaker 1: Tennessee, one loss on the road at South Carolina. They're
- 7:39Speaker 1: the underdog after beating Bama.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Yep.
- 7:43Speaker 1: And then South Carolina wins. How do you feel right now?
- 7:47Speaker 1: Way too predictable. How do you feel right now, though,
- 7:50Speaker 1: about the Kentucky matchup? Both teams coming off a bye.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Just a gut feeling today.
- 7:54Speaker 2: Tennessee's going to kill them. That's my gut feeling.
- 7:57Speaker 1: I think the same thing.
- 7:59Speaker 2: By the way, did they just invent a start time
- 8:03Speaker 2: for a 5-15 Central kickoff?
- 8:05Speaker 1: 6-15 Eastern?
- 8:06Speaker 2: I've never heard of.
- 8:07Speaker 1: An SEC game starting at that time. Yeah, the TV
- 8:11Speaker 1: times have changed a little bit. It's not 6-05, it's 6-13.
- 8:14Speaker 1: Here it is. The 6-15 kickoff. instead of the 7-15 Eastern.
- 8:23Speaker 1: But they get their night game finally on ESPN.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Yeah, look, gut reaction right now, we'll see. Look, Deshaun
- 8:30Speaker 2: Bishop had to leave the game with an injury. I
- 8:31Speaker 2: think he's okay. But is he going to be all
- 8:34Speaker 2: right for that game? There's a lot to be determined
- 8:35Speaker 2: in the next week and a half before we get
- 8:38Speaker 2: to the actual kickoff of that game. But if you're
- 8:40Speaker 2: asking my initial reaction, I think Kentucky's due for a fall.
- 8:45Speaker 2: And I think Tennessee's going to come home incredibly pissed
- 8:48Speaker 2: off because they pissed away a chance at a big
- 8:50Speaker 2: road win, and they're going to be angry, and it's
- 8:53Speaker 2: going to be the dark mode game, and that Neyland
- 8:55Speaker 2: Stadium crowd is going to be very loud. And I
- 8:57Speaker 2: think suddenly Kentucky might have a few penalties, procedural penalties
- 9:01Speaker 2: in that game, and Tennessee's defense is going to pin
- 9:02Speaker 2: their ears back. And I think Tennessee wins by three
- 9:05Speaker 2: scores plus over Kentucky in that game. But, you know,
- 9:08Speaker 2: check back next Friday, and I'll see if I feel
- 9:10Speaker 2: the same way. But that's my initial reaction right now.
- 9:13Speaker 2: But that is the conference, too, the seesaw nature.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Back and forth of games and what's going to happen.
- 9:20Speaker 2: We're going to set the power line up later. There
- 9:23Speaker 2: are some bigger point spreads this week. It's why it's
- 9:26Speaker 2: a bad week in the SEC. You've also got multiple
- 9:28Speaker 2: teams on their bye. But one of the big lines
- 9:32Speaker 2: is because Kamario Taylor's hurt for Mississippi State and Texas.
- 9:36Speaker 2: It's a three-touchdown line, but that's because Mississippi State is
- 9:39Speaker 2: so bad with the backup quarterback that's in the game.
- 9:41Speaker 2: They were a good team. With Kamario Taylor putting up
- 9:44Speaker 2: a lot of points, had a chance to be one
- 9:46Speaker 2: of the surprises in the SEC this year.
- 9:50Speaker 1: And speaking of disappointments, we've got that. That's straight ahead.
- 9:53Speaker 1: The top five disappointments right now in college football. It's
- 9:56Speaker 1: here on Hunt and Withrow. Accidents. they don't wait for
- 10:01Speaker 1: a good time or you get one bad moment. A wreck,
- 10:04Speaker 1: a fall, a doctor who wasn't paying attention. And suddenly
- 10:07Speaker 1: you're fighting an insurance company that does this every single day.
- 10:10Speaker 1: And that's why Clay started Clay Travis Law. He's a
- 10:12Speaker 1: Vanderbilt Law grad. He built a firm focused on the details.
- 10:16Speaker 1: People deserve someone. on their side, willing to pay full attention,
- 10:21Speaker 1: ask the hard questions, push back when things don't add up.
- 10:24Speaker 1: You're backed by experienced trial attorneys who bring the fight
- 10:27Speaker 1: to corporations and insurers. Clay Travis Law, based in Nashville,

- 10:56Speaker 2: too big or too small.
- 10:58Speaker 1: I don't know why, Chad, but I've got the song
- 11:00Speaker 1: by Little Texas, God Bless Texas, in my head all morning.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I have no reason to have it.
- 11:05Speaker 2: In his own hands. Yeah. Now it's in my head.
- 11:08Speaker 2: Thank you for that, hon.
- 11:09Speaker 1: Well, I had to tell you. But now everybody, all
- 11:12Speaker 1: of our crew is probably thinking that too.
- 11:15Speaker 2: You know what I can't get out of my head?
- 11:18Speaker 2: is the song from the AI video where the coach is, Outstanding,
- 11:24Speaker 2: can you help me out? I just hear that over
- 11:26Speaker 2: and over on a loop in my head all day long.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Since you brought it to the show, I see it
- 11:30Speaker 1: all over the place. It's outstanding.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Just me saying that to you right now will probably
- 11:35Speaker 2: reset your algorithm away from 1843 log homes into now
- 11:39Speaker 2: videos of different football people singing that song.
- 11:43Speaker 1: I'm going to have the logger from 1843 that's going
- 11:46Speaker 1: to be in the video now. recommended to me to watch.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Little House on the Prairie. Hutton will be watching that,
- 11:51Speaker 2: the new Netflix version, right after this show.
- 11:53Speaker 1: Yes. So we've got that, Chad, the top five disappointments
- 11:58Speaker 1: in college football. Where are we starting?
- 12:03Speaker 2: Let's go one to five when we're doing this one.
- 12:05Speaker 2: Instead of counting it down, let's count it up one
- 12:10Speaker 2: to five. Number one is Oregon. Oregon was preseason number
- 12:14Speaker 2: three in college football. Word got out today, Dan Lanning said,
- 12:18Speaker 2: Dante Moore's not going to play the rest of the year.
- 12:21Speaker 2: A little bit odd in that it sounds like, you know,
- 12:24Speaker 2: we can control things in practice, but if we put
- 12:27Speaker 2: them in games, we can't control the games of what
- 12:30Speaker 2: happens to them in the game. So it sounds like
- 12:32Speaker 2: a business decision.
- 12:32Speaker 1: I agree.
- 12:33Speaker 2: Shut it down and get ready for the draft. Boy,
- 12:36Speaker 2: this quarterback class, fascinating. In this upcoming draft, Dante Moore's
- 12:40Speaker 2: barely played, you know, at this point. Didn't play this
- 12:43Speaker 2: year either. Like, how do you rate him if you're
- 12:45Speaker 2: a team– I think that's going to be a wild one.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Arch Manning also that we're going to get to a
- 12:50Speaker 2: little bit later. But number one is Oregon as the
- 12:54Speaker 2: biggest disappointment based on where they were preseason.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Hey, Chad, it's even the way they started the season
- 13:01Speaker 1: with close– they won. But we're looking at their record,
- 13:06Speaker 1: and the record's crazy right now. But it could have
- 13:08Speaker 1: been a lot worse with the way they started. They
- 13:12Speaker 1: were barely winning to start the season. They barely beat
- 13:14Speaker 1: Boise State. Right.
- 13:15Speaker 2: Then they went on the road and lost to Drew
- 13:18Speaker 2: Mestemaker at Oklahoma State. Yep. And then, I mean, they
- 13:21Speaker 2: should have lost to Nebraska. You know, there's some games
- 13:23Speaker 2: they pulled out in the end that they were behind. Now,
- 13:27Speaker 2: I think it's a bit of a wash because there's
- 13:29Speaker 2: a gigantic drop-off. I mean, Tennessee's playing their backup quarterback
- 13:33Speaker 2: right now, too, but it's very similar between the two
- 13:36Speaker 2: quarterbacks in terms of their ability and where they are.
- 13:39Speaker 2: And neither one of them have experience. The drop-off from
- 13:41Speaker 2: Dante Moore– to Dylan Raiola, and then the third string
- 13:45Speaker 2: guy is immense for Oregon. So it's going to be
- 13:48Speaker 2: a rough road for them even the rest of the
- 13:51Speaker 2: way with a backup quarterback.
- 13:52Speaker 1: And they started slow last year too. That's now a
- 13:55Speaker 1: trend to watch for with the program.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Let's go to the SEC for number two and three.
- 14:00Speaker 2: I mean, A & M is a huge shock to me.
- 14:02Speaker 2: We talked to Billy Lucci in Tampa and met a
- 14:05Speaker 2: lot of the people for Texags that cover A & M.
- 14:09Speaker 2: They were optimistic about the season. We were high on
- 14:11Speaker 2: A & M. We thought they figured it out with
- 14:14Speaker 2: Mike Yelko defensively a year ago, getting that team to
- 14:17Speaker 2: the college football playoff. Marcel Reed is back. You think
- 14:21Speaker 2: he's going to take another step. He's getting paid a
- 14:23Speaker 2: lot in NIL also. Offensive line should be good. I'm
- 14:28Speaker 2: surprised that A & M' s offense has been this bad
- 14:31Speaker 2: this year.
- 14:31Speaker 1: And I'm surprised on the quarterback. I really am. Because
- 14:35Speaker 1: he arrives there and he's one read, no pun intended,
- 14:40Speaker 1: one read and take off running. And then they add
- 14:43Speaker 1: the passing game to his skill set. And he's starting
- 14:46Speaker 1: to really build his game. And then it's been a drop-off.
- 14:49Speaker 1: I wasn't expecting the drop-off. I was expecting the next
- 14:52Speaker 1: level for him. Not Heisman level, but a level where
- 14:58Speaker 1: it's a household name for a college football fan. And
- 15:01Speaker 1: we have not seen that. We should see A &
- 15:04Speaker 1: M on some marquee matchups in primetime. And we haven't
- 15:08Speaker 1: seen that. Yes, it's a huge disappointment. I think this
- 15:12Speaker 1: is fitting that it's number two on the list.
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yeah, it's been really bad and shocking. You know what's
- 15:17Speaker 2: not disappointing? Nashville born-and-bred quarterbacks in the SEC.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Oh, my goodness.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I mean, how about that? Jared Curtis, Marcel Reed, Kenny
- 15:26Speaker 2: Minchey at Kentucky, and now George McIntyre at Tennessee. Four
- 15:29Speaker 2: of the 16 teams have a starting quarterback. From the
- 15:33Speaker 2: city of Nashville, where they played their high school football.
- 15:35Speaker 2: Pretty cool. Nashville's become a nice spot. Speaking of Nashville quarterbacks,
- 15:39Speaker 2: Bo Bryan, Luke Bryan's son, commits to Georgia.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Georgia. Yesterday. No surprise.
- 15:43Speaker 2: His first big offer. I wonder why Georgia was the
- 15:47Speaker 2: first one to offer. It could be something to do
- 15:50Speaker 2: with the NIL contributions of one Luke Bryan, his father.
- 15:54Speaker 1: Is it Vanderbilt's next quarterback then? Well, he's going to go.
- 15:58Speaker 2: There and not play. He's like a three-star guy who's
- 16:02Speaker 2: being offered by OVC schools.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I'm saying, are they going to flip him now because
- 16:07Speaker 1: he's a Georgia commit?
- 16:09Speaker 2: Oh, yeah. Well, that's a good point. Maybe he's next
- 16:12Speaker 2: on the list. Luke Bryan's such a big Georgia fan, though.
- 16:14Speaker 2: I don't think that's going to happen.
- 16:15Speaker 1: No, I agree.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Pretty good life for Bo, too. He's got a great
- 16:18Speaker 2: high school team and gets to go be a backup
- 16:20Speaker 2: quarterback at Georgia. His dad's going to give a boatload
- 16:24Speaker 2: of money in NIL, and it's going to be a
- 16:26Speaker 2: nice life.
- 16:26Speaker 1: We're about to see him every weekend on TV with
- 16:30Speaker 1: Luke Bryan standing on the sideline. There are worse people
- 16:33Speaker 1: to be in this world than Bo Bryan. High school
- 16:36Speaker 1: quarterback that gets to go be a backup at the
- 16:38Speaker 1: University of Georgia in Athens in that surrounding with Luke
- 16:42Speaker 1: Bryan as your father.
- 16:44Speaker 2: There are worse situations to be in.
- 16:46Speaker 1: He's the Athens prince.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Yes, yes. Number three, Oklahoma. John Mateer. I knew when
- 16:54Speaker 2: I saw that offseason video of him all yoked up
- 16:57Speaker 2: and how gigantic he had gotten that something was off here.
- 17:00Speaker 2: You don't want a quarterback that is that big and chiseled.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Will Levis, another example. Tim Tebow, NFL team Tim Tebow
- 17:12Speaker 2: at times. You just don't see guys with that physique
- 17:16Speaker 2: being great NFL quarterbacks very often. John Mateer got too big.
- 17:20Speaker 2: He got too big, and now Oklahoma's offense is bad.
- 17:24Speaker 2: He's been bad. Big disappointment for a team that I
- 17:26Speaker 2: think was preseason eighth in the AP. They were right
- 17:30Speaker 2: around the top ten for Oklahoma last and now they're
- 17:32Speaker 2: playing an elimination game against South Carolina this week for
- 17:35Speaker 2: both teams with three losses on the season.
- 17:38Speaker 1: The perception of Oklahoma offense, too, is not there. Following
- 17:43Speaker 1: the coach, he's got the coach with him, and we've
- 17:47Speaker 1: seen it, Chad, of course with Pavia, but even with Mestemaker.
- 17:53Speaker 1: There are examples of the coaching staff following the player,
- 17:57Speaker 1: and it clicks immediately. I don't know why it just
- 18:00Speaker 1: never clicked. Maybe it's because he's so yoked. But beyond that,
- 18:07Speaker 1: the offense is just stagnant. It's weird to see Oklahoma
- 18:14Speaker 1: not be able to move the football. And they've done
- 18:18Speaker 1: it recently a little bit. But it's not the improvement
- 18:22Speaker 1: that I thought we were going to see there. I
- 18:24Speaker 1: would have them by top five, but I think I
- 18:26Speaker 1: would have some other programs ahead of Oklahoma based on
- 18:30Speaker 1: where I thought some teams would be.
- 18:32Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think, honestly, A & M and Oklahoma,
- 18:35Speaker 2: I could flip-flop the two and make an argument either way.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Oklahoma could be two. A & M could be three.
- 18:41Speaker 2: I think number four on my list, you could argue,
- 18:44Speaker 2: is higher also. But Michigan was– They were preseason 18th
- 18:50Speaker 2: in the AP poll, okay? So they should be three
- 18:53Speaker 2: and four. I mean, they lost that game to Western Michigan.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Let's be real about it. They got handed a game
- 18:59Speaker 2: by an officiating error on the clock in that Western
- 19:02Speaker 2: Michigan game. They're one and three in the Big Ten
- 19:04Speaker 2: right now. The offense is terrible.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Terrible.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Bryce Underwood is the biggest disappointment in recent memory as
- 19:12Speaker 2: a five-star, no-doubt quarterback coming into college. with what Dave
- 19:16Speaker 2: Portnoy and Michigan Boosters paid him to be there. He's
- 19:20Speaker 2: now been benched for a guy who's not very good
- 19:23Speaker 2: as a freshman in Tommy Carr. That offense is terrible
- 19:27Speaker 2: to watch. Michigan, really, really bad. Michigan should be 3-4.
- 19:31Speaker 2: They're 4-3. They go to Rutgers this week, so they're
- 19:33Speaker 2: going to win. They're a 14-point favorite on the road
- 19:37Speaker 2: at Rutgers. But Hutton, Michigan's been a gigantic disappointment.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Well, think about the players who were there for a
- 19:42Speaker 1: different head coach, and he's not there. what's the staff
- 19:49Speaker 1: like this year? is another question I have for Michigan.
- 19:53Speaker 2: He took a lot of his guys from Utah. I
- 19:55Speaker 2: know one of his assistants stayed to be the head
- 19:56Speaker 2: coach of Utah, but I think he took some guys
- 19:58Speaker 2: with him. Kyle Whittingham did. I think we underrated the
- 20:05Speaker 2: culture change that needed to happen in Michigan.
- 20:07Speaker 1: But it happened so late. It was such a quick flip-flop,
- 20:13Speaker 1: and it happened late in the game compared to the
- 20:16Speaker 1: portal and everything else where you get your guys. It's
- 20:20Speaker 1: a mismatch, I think, from exactly what you're saying, just
- 20:25Speaker 1: the culture of the program. They're flipping it. They're trying
- 20:30Speaker 1: to get it back on track. Not everybody on that team,
- 20:33Speaker 1: I'm saying, is awful, but it's clear that some of
- 20:37Speaker 1: the players just aren't in sync look at the, the
- 20:41Speaker 1: offense is just so stagnant. They can play some defense though.
- 20:45Speaker 2: No doubt. And this, this is my prediction with this
- 20:48Speaker 2: next year's Michigan team. This is not going to be a, okay,
- 20:51Speaker 2: guys got a year in the system. They're going to
- 20:53Speaker 2: come back. They're going to be more bought into Kyle
- 20:54Speaker 2: Whittingham and what he's doing. This is going to be
- 20:57Speaker 2: a complete overhaul of the roster. There's going to be
- 20:59Speaker 2: a lot of guys leaving after one year with Kyle Whittingham.
- 21:02Speaker 2: And he's going to bring a lot of dudes in
- 21:04Speaker 2: that he feels like fits his mantra, his mentality, his,
- 21:08Speaker 2: what they want to do offensively way more. There's going
- 21:11Speaker 2: to be an almost entirely new roster at Michigan next
- 21:14Speaker 2: year that Kyle Whittingham believes will fit what he's doing more.
- 21:18Speaker 2: And you can do that now in college football. You
- 21:20Speaker 2: can have a massive overhaul at key positions from year
- 21:24Speaker 2: to year with the transfer portal. And Michigan certainly has
- 21:26Speaker 2: the funds to do it. And I think we're going
- 21:28Speaker 2: to see a completely different Wolverines team next year.
- 21:31Speaker 1: And with the defensive, there'll be a defensive team. and
- 21:34Speaker 1: you have an offense that will be able to actually
- 21:37Speaker 1: score in the red zone and move it better. I mean,
- 21:40Speaker 1: they're holding opponents to what? It's like under 17 points
- 21:43Speaker 1: or something. It's crazy. But in some ways, they're like
- 21:48Speaker 1: the Titans. They can't score, but the defense is able
- 21:53Speaker 1: to get enough stops. It's bend but don't break, and
- 21:56Speaker 1: they break too often. It just feels like a waste
- 21:58Speaker 1: of a great defense. It's going to be one of
- 22:00Speaker 1: those years where you just wasted a great defense. If
- 22:03Speaker 1: you're Michigan. But not a great quarterback. They didn't waste that.
- 22:07Speaker 1: That's also the biggest disappointment, I think, based on perception
- 22:10Speaker 1: and what we saw.
- 22:12Speaker 2: When we get to January and we start looking at
- 22:16Speaker 2: quarterback movement, look at the schools that could be in
- 22:20Speaker 2: the QB market and the money they can spend. Michigan
- 22:23Speaker 2: being one of them. Indiana. Indiana. Possibly Ohio State.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Vanderbilt.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Miami again. I would think Jared Curtis is going to
- 22:33Speaker 2: stay at Vanderbilt, but I don't know.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I would think every team that is out there has
- 22:39Speaker 1: been knocking on his door.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Yeah, there's just a lot. LSU. There's a lot of
- 22:43Speaker 2: big-time programs that are going to be looking to bring
- 22:45Speaker 2: in a transfer quarterback. The bidding wars for those top
- 22:48Speaker 2: guys that enter the portal are going to be wild
- 22:51Speaker 2: to see the musical chairs. It's going to happen. Yes.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Number five, it's not Texas. It's specifically, I'm going with
- 22:58Speaker 2: Arch Manning, Steve Sarkeesian as a combo. It hasn't worked.
- 23:04Speaker 2: It worked better against Ole Miss. They had to hang
- 23:06Speaker 2: on after building a big lead in that game. And they,
- 23:09Speaker 2: by the way, hung on again after allowing another onside kick,
- 23:13Speaker 2: much like they did against Tennessee, to be converted that
- 23:16Speaker 2: their special teams gave up. I would start to look
- 23:18Speaker 2: into that if I'm the special teams coach for Texas
- 23:20Speaker 2: to allow that. But For whatever reason, I thought it
- 23:24Speaker 2: would be a lot better, much like Marcel Reed in
- 23:26Speaker 2: Texas A & M. I thought this year would be
- 23:28Speaker 2: the year that everything clicked in for Arch, for Sark,
- 23:32Speaker 2: for that offense with Ryan Wingo, with Cam Coleman. They
- 23:36Speaker 2: bring in Hollywood Smothers. They bring in Brown, the running
- 23:40Speaker 2: back from Arizona State. They're going to have a rushing attack.
- 23:42Speaker 2: They've got a good offensive line. They've got these dynamic
- 23:46Speaker 2: guys out wide at receiver. Everything's going to click into place,
- 23:50Speaker 2: and That offense has been a huge disappointment for Texas
- 23:53Speaker 2: so far. The team hasn't been a giant disappointment. They're
- 23:55Speaker 2: still in the mix with two losses. They've won big games.
- 23:58Speaker 2: They beat Ohio State. They won at Tennessee. They just
- 24:01Speaker 2: beat Ole Miss at home. It's a brutal schedule for
- 24:04Speaker 2: the Longhorns, but they've done well to only have lost
- 24:07Speaker 2: two games. But that offense, Hutt, has been a big disappointment.
- 24:11Speaker 1: And they're really good in spurts during games, right? They
- 24:15Speaker 1: can't put away teams, right? And their comeback ability is
- 24:20Speaker 1: also crazy, crazy good from what we saw against Ohio State.
- 24:24Speaker 1: But they're good for a quarter or good for a half,
- 24:27Speaker 1: but they cannot put away games. And their speed in
- 24:31Speaker 1: the secondary versus the speed of SEC offenses or Ohio
- 24:36Speaker 1: State as well, that's also glaring to me. But Sarkeesian
- 24:40Speaker 1: overall with Manning, I refuse to think that this is
- 24:45Speaker 1: the ceiling for Arch Manning. There's more there. There's got
- 24:50Speaker 1: to be. This is his floor. I think you agree
- 24:57Speaker 1: with me there. I don't think he's the giant issue.
- 25:00Speaker 1: I don't think the development has happened from a coach
- 25:02Speaker 1: that is known for doing that.
- 25:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I've said it. I think he'd be better off
- 25:07Speaker 2: spending one year at another college and getting into a
- 25:10Speaker 2: different system and just getting into a different environment and
- 25:13Speaker 2: letting it rip somewhere else for one year. I don't
- 25:15Speaker 2: know where that place would be, But I think that
- 25:19Speaker 2: would be a good move for Arch. He needs to
- 25:20Speaker 2: hire David Cutcliffe as his personal quarterback coach. I'm sure
- 25:24Speaker 2: he'd help him whenever he wanted to.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Probably just now. I wouldn't even have to hire him.
- 25:28Speaker 1: Yeah, I would stick, but I would get my coaching,
- 25:34Speaker 1: get my development from the Manning choice. Maybe the Manning
- 25:39Speaker 1: choice is Sark, but that's not the path. Also, now
- 25:43Speaker 1: in the portal, I don't see guys really improving at all. Again,
- 25:48Speaker 1: I see big performances, but I don't think they're really
- 25:51Speaker 1: developing these guys because they don't have them long enough.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Spring practice going into fall camp isn't enough for me.
- 25:59Speaker 1: It wouldn't be for a quarterback either.
- 26:00Speaker 2: No.
- 26:02Speaker 1: Not seeing it in NFL either. Coming up, this is
- 26:06Speaker 1: a great question that Chad brought for baseball. Is anyone
- 26:10Speaker 1: watching the World Series? I've got a great example.
- 26:13Speaker 2: JT needs to get involved in this too because he's
- 26:15Speaker 2: a big baseball guy. Big baseball, softball guy, JT, and
- 26:19Speaker 2: I'm curious if he's interested at all in this World Series.
- 26:21Speaker 2: I've got a great example personally on this. It's straight
- 26:24Speaker 2: ahead here on Hutton Withrow. Crockett Coffee. Chad's got it
- 26:28Speaker 2: right in front of him. Started by Clay Travis, Buck Sexton.
- 26:31Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Buck's brother, Mason, named after David Crockett, hunter, storyteller, patriot,
- 26:37Speaker 1: backwoods legend. Check out the logo, Davy Crockett, surfing the
- 26:40Speaker 1: backs of crocodiles. That tells you everything about the attitude here. 100%
- 26:44Speaker 1: pure Arabica, high altitude beans, small batch roasted right here
- 26:50Speaker 1: in America, Tennessee, the heart of the country, and it

- 26:56Speaker 1: for six months. Light, medium, dark, decaf, organic, even a
- 26:59Speaker 1: mushroom blend for you. Whole bean, ground, or K-cups. Peak flavor.
- 27:03Speaker 1: It's however you make it in the morning.
- 27:06Speaker 2: I'm loving my King Mountain dark roast right now this morning.
- 27:09Speaker 2: You can set up a subscription. It shows up on
- 27:10Speaker 2: your schedule. Change it or cancel it any time you

- 27:28Speaker 2: doing some good. CrockettCoffee.com. That's Crockett, C-R-O-C-K-E-T-T, coffee.com.
- 27:36Speaker 1: Great question coming up here, and we have a poll
- 27:39Speaker 1: in our YouTube chat where you can vote on this
- 27:43Speaker 1: on social media. Is anyone watching the World Series? Chad,
- 27:48Speaker 1: last night I went and grabbed some food, and I
- 27:52Speaker 1: saw the game on TV. I had no idea they
- 27:55Speaker 1: were playing last night.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it was. So Game 1, and I've looked up
- 28:00Speaker 2: these numbers. Front Office Sports had this. 12.2 million average viewers.
- 28:05Speaker 2: That was on Friday night for Game 1 of the
- 28:07Speaker 2: World Series. That's actually not far off from Dodgers-Blue Jays
- 28:11Speaker 2: a year ago, which was 13.3. The numbers are surprisingly
- 28:16Speaker 2: better than I expected. They're not great, but given non-Dodgers
- 28:21Speaker 2: World Series recently, they're pretty on par with what they've
- 28:25Speaker 2: been in the past. Here's the number, though, that jumped
- 28:27Speaker 2: out to me. In the city of Milwaukee, which is
- 28:30Speaker 2: Major League Baseball's smallest media market, keep in mind the
- 28:33Speaker 2: Brewers are the oldest, longest-running franchise to never win a
- 28:37Speaker 2: World Series. So they're one game away from history for
- 28:40Speaker 2: that organization. In the city of Milwaukee, they're pulling a
- 28:43Speaker 2: 70 share. 70% of televisions are watching the World Series
- 28:48Speaker 2: in Milwaukee, which is unheard of in terms of local
- 28:52Speaker 2: market support. So kudos to the Wisconsinites. And the city
- 28:57Speaker 2: of Milwaukee, who's really helping that overall number with a
- 29:00Speaker 2: 70 share in that market. I'm just, I am not
- 29:04Speaker 2: enthused about the World Series this year. There are some
- 29:07Speaker 2: years where I'm really into it. I saw it on
- 29:09Speaker 2: last night. By the time I turned it on, it
- 29:11Speaker 2: was 10-0 Brewers. I know the first two games were
- 29:13Speaker 2: one-run games that the Brewers won. But I had to
- 29:17Speaker 2: ask this question, and we put the poll question, as
- 29:19Speaker 2: you mentioned, in our YouTube chat right now. Who's into
- 29:23Speaker 2: this series right now? Because normally a story like this,
- 29:27Speaker 2: the team has never won, a city who's never won it,
- 29:29Speaker 2: I'd be all for the Brewers watching every game. Of course,
- 29:32Speaker 2: JT is a big Cubs fan. So he's seen this before,
- 29:35Speaker 2: but I think 2016, uh, was when they broke through and, and, and,
- 29:39Speaker 2: and broke the curse. Um, but I I've just, I've
- 29:42Speaker 2: got very little interest. JT, have you been watching the
- 29:44Speaker 2: world series at all?
- 29:46Speaker 3: No, I mean, as a Cubs fan, and it's interesting too,
- 29:50Speaker 3: to see if you're, you know, a Tennessee fan, would
- 29:52Speaker 3: you root for Alabama? But as a Cubs fan of
- 29:55Speaker 3: the central, I like Milwaukee. Um, I think they've been
- 29:58Speaker 3: a great team all year, but there's just no star power. Like,
- 30:01Speaker 3: I'm kind of like with you guys. I looked at
- 30:02Speaker 3: the score last night, but I looked at the score
- 30:04Speaker 3: on my phone, on the score app.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I didn't turn on the TV.
- 30:08Speaker 3: There's just nobody even for– and listen, I get tired
- 30:12Speaker 3: of watching the Dodgers, right, because that's not fun. But
- 30:15Speaker 3: there's just not anybody that just pops for me, and
- 30:18Speaker 3: it's just kind of– I mean, I like the close
- 30:20Speaker 3: games to start, but last night a blowout. But I
- 30:23Speaker 3: have not physically had the TV on. for one second
- 30:27Speaker 3: of this World Series.
- 30:28Speaker 2: The other thing, too, why are they scheduling this against
- 30:31Speaker 2: Monday Night Football? I think there's a very obvious way
- 30:35Speaker 2: to avoid those games, right? We're going to get into
- 30:38Speaker 2: the WNBA scheduling dilemma with their WNBA finals tomorrow on
- 30:42Speaker 2: the show, but I don't know why you would ever
- 30:44Speaker 2: go head-to-head with football. I just think that football, it's
- 30:48Speaker 2: not just that it's on. It just occupies our minds
- 30:51Speaker 2: so much in the fall. Because it's the shortest season
- 30:54Speaker 2: that you anticipate the most. It has the best ratings
- 30:58Speaker 2: once you get to it. And it's hard to conceptualize
- 31:02Speaker 2: a lot of other things going on. The start of
- 31:04Speaker 2: the NBA season falls to the wayside. The World Series
- 31:07Speaker 2: falls to the wayside. The start of college basketball. And
- 31:10Speaker 2: don't get me started. Now that all of December, especially
- 31:12Speaker 2: next year, is going to be that 2014 playoff. I mean,
- 31:15Speaker 2: you can push college basketball even further back because you
- 31:18Speaker 2: had about a three week window where there wasn't much
- 31:20Speaker 2: college football on. So if you're a college fan, you
- 31:22Speaker 2: could pay a little bit of attention to December, November,
- 31:26Speaker 2: December college basketball. Now it's going to be a complete
- 31:29Speaker 2: afterthought until January, February moving forward. So I don't know.
- 31:34Speaker 2: I'm just not overly enthused about this World Series this year.
- 31:38Speaker 1: Well, and the other thing, too, is the ratings for
- 31:41Speaker 1: last night. You get a 10-0, like you said, and
- 31:45Speaker 1: they're competing against two 2-4 teams, but there's Dallas and Philly.
- 31:50Speaker 1: You know? Again, avoid it. Chad's right. Avoid it. It's easy.
- 31:55Speaker 1: A crazy stat that you need to see is straight
- 31:59Speaker 1: ahead here on Hutton & Withrow. If you want the
- 32:03Speaker 1: official apparel of the Nashville Balls, Maybe the future WNBA champion.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Who knows? Founded by Jennifer Say, you can get into
- 32:11Speaker 1: XXXY Athletics. Former national champion gymnast, former Levi's brand president.
- 32:15Speaker 1: She walked away from a corporate job rather than to
- 32:19Speaker 1: say something that she didn't believe. She started XXXY Athletics instead.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And the mission, in their words, is to empower female athletes,
- 32:25Speaker 1: take a stand for fair competition. They call it the
- 32:28Speaker 1: T that launched a movement. It's real athletic apparel, Chad.
- 32:31Speaker 1: It's the official place to get Clay's WNBA franchise.
- 32:36Speaker 2: That's right. Tees, trucker hats for the Nashville Balls. If
- 32:39Speaker 2: you want the shirt, that's where you go to get it.
- 32:41Speaker 2: New customers also get 20% off your first order when
- 32:43Speaker 2: you sign up and free shipping over $ 100. xxxyathletics.com. That's xx-xyathletics.com.
- 32:51Speaker 1: So I need to see the stat, Chad, that you
- 32:54Speaker 1: brought to the table.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Clemson. You ready for this, Hudson?
- 32:58Speaker 1: Okay.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Is the lone team in college football this year that
- 33:03Speaker 2: has scored fewer points than on offense and the combined
- 33:07Speaker 2: total of its defense and special teams through seven games
- 33:12Speaker 2: of this year. That's right. Wow. That circle is every
- 33:15Speaker 2: team in college football. Outside of that circle is Clemson.
- 33:20Speaker 2: The number is 78 to 72. So 78 combined points
- 33:24Speaker 2: between their kicker kicking so many field goals and a
- 33:29Speaker 2: punt return and fumble return for a touchdown. Wow. They've
- 33:32Speaker 2: scored 12 offensive touchdowns all season. through seven games. Only
- 33:37Speaker 2: two passing TDs all year so far for the Clemson offense.
- 33:42Speaker 2: And this weekend, Dabo Sweeney took over play calling in
- 33:47Speaker 2: the second half of their home loss to Virginia Tech.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Chad Morris, though, he says, oh no, he's still employed.
- 33:52Speaker 2: He's going to finish out the year. He's fine. We
- 33:54Speaker 2: just all have to do a better job of coaching,
- 33:56Speaker 2: starting with me. Coaching's not been good enough. We haven't
- 33:58Speaker 2: put them in a spot to succeed on offense. I mean,
- 34:02Speaker 2: he's taken ownership of it, but I'm a little bit surprised, too,
- 34:05Speaker 2: that you can also with a straight face say, Chad
- 34:08Speaker 2: Moore's a good coach. He's going to do fine the
- 34:10Speaker 2: rest of the way. Yes, I had to replace him
- 34:12Speaker 2: mid-game and take over play-calling responsibilities, but he's going to
- 34:16Speaker 2: be fine.
- 34:17Speaker 1: What do you think those coaches do whenever they lose
- 34:19Speaker 1: the ability to call plays? Because they've already got the
- 34:22Speaker 1: quarterback coach, right? Sometimes they are the quarterback coach as well.
- 34:26Speaker 1: But when you lose that ability, you're not into it anymore.
- 34:29Speaker 1: You know you're out at the end of the year.
- 34:32Speaker 1: The team has a record that's not great. They're also
- 34:37Speaker 1: entering the portal.
- 34:38Speaker 2: I mean, can you imagine how emasculating of an experience
- 34:42Speaker 2: that is?
- 34:43Speaker 1: Great.
- 34:44Speaker 2: To show up with your binders, you got your readers on,
- 34:48Speaker 2: you're looking down, you're looking at the game, you're calling
- 34:50Speaker 2: plays the whole time you're in it, calling play after play,
- 34:53Speaker 2: and then to get buzzed up from the field and say, hey, man,
- 34:57Speaker 2: you're good. I'm taking over. You just sit there. with
- 35:00Speaker 2: your arms folded and watch and see what we're seeing.
- 35:04Speaker 2: I don't know what the, are they talking to the
- 35:05Speaker 2: head coach who's calling plays then? Are they talking to
- 35:07Speaker 2: somebody else?
- 35:08Speaker 1: How do you, right.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Does every coach have a plan in place for like,
- 35:14Speaker 2: even in not just being replaced, but like, There's a
- 35:16Speaker 2: medical emergency or something happens with a play caller to
- 35:19Speaker 2: where then somebody else steps in and does something. Do
- 35:22Speaker 2: you have a plan in place that if I have
- 35:24Speaker 2: to replace you because it's so bad as a play caller,
- 35:27Speaker 2: here are your game day responsibilities as a non-play caller.
- 35:31Speaker 2: You then assist the person who's doing it. I'd be
- 35:33Speaker 2: fascinated to talk to a head coach if there's a
- 35:35Speaker 2: plan in place going in for every team because they
- 35:38Speaker 2: plan on everything. You know, in these programs, like, do
- 35:41Speaker 2: you have a plan for when your play caller sucks
- 35:44Speaker 2: so bad that you have to replace them mid-game? Because
- 35:47Speaker 2: Dabo knew this was a possibility, I'm sure, going into
- 35:50Speaker 2: this game. They've been bad on offense all year. And
- 35:52Speaker 2: he decided at halftime of this game was the time
- 35:54Speaker 2: he was going to take over play calling.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Yeah. And, you know, one coach just quit in the
- 36:00Speaker 1: middle of the game.
- 36:01Speaker 2: Colorado State, Jim Warren Jr.
- 36:02Speaker 1: 's guy. Yes, yes. But I... Speaking of the plan
- 36:07Speaker 1: in place, did you see the Urban Meyer video? I
- 36:14Speaker 1: didn't include it because we can't play it, but he
- 36:17Speaker 1: goes through the process of calling a play on fourth
- 36:22Speaker 1: down and gives an example of Ohio State and Texas,
- 36:26Speaker 1: I believe, and the fourth and one going for the bundle.
- 36:33Speaker 1: And how he determines in his headset who he's talking
- 36:37Speaker 1: to and who has to stay silent. And it was like,
- 36:41Speaker 1: fourth down, I want to hear from my offensive coordinator.
- 36:44Speaker 1: And I want to hear from a student. Like a...
- 36:50Speaker 1: What are the.
- 36:51Speaker 2: Connor Stallion's type?
- 36:53Speaker 1: Yeah, thank you. Thank you, yes.
- 36:55Speaker 2: And I didn't even know what his title was. But
- 36:58Speaker 2: analytics guy, probably. An analyst, yeah.
- 37:00Speaker 1: And so... He hears from that person first. Hey, should
- 37:04Speaker 1: we do it? What do they say? Yes, 50-whatever percent,
- 37:07Speaker 1: 60-whatever percent. And then he goes, all right, what's the
- 37:09Speaker 1: play call? Then they get it into the quarterback, and
- 37:12Speaker 1: then it shuts down.
- 37:13Speaker 2: And how fast that process is is awesome. That's where
- 37:17Speaker 2: I like Irvin Meyer.
- 37:19Speaker 1: I don't like that he won't shake your hand, but
- 37:21Speaker 1: I like the fact that he will take us inside
- 37:23Speaker 1: the headset, which is phenomenal. He did a great job,
- 37:26Speaker 1: and they did it live. They had some guys that
- 37:30Speaker 1: acted the roles, and they did it live, and how
- 37:32Speaker 1: fast that process is to get it into the quarterback
- 37:36Speaker 1: and still have time to call the play and get
- 37:37Speaker 1: lined up. It was awesome.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Can you imagine being the guy who mistakenly speaks when
- 37:43Speaker 2: you're not supposed to in Urban Meyer's headset?
- 37:45Speaker 1: Think about that.
- 37:48Speaker 2: I hear his response being like Shooter McGavin to his
- 37:50Speaker 2: caddy at Happy Gilmore. He's like, well, you're fired. The
- 37:53Speaker 2: one person who you hear their voice when they're not
- 37:55Speaker 2: supposed to speak. He mentioned, he goes, I want to
- 37:57Speaker 2: hear from two people. He was very deliberate. I want
- 38:00Speaker 2: to hear from two people, two people only. Everyone else
- 38:03Speaker 2: is silent. We've got to stay silent. And it was awesome.
- 38:07Speaker 1: I'll send it to you, but I don't think we
- 38:08Speaker 1: can play it based on.
- 38:09Speaker 2: I've always thought about the different channels they have in
- 38:12Speaker 2: communication during a game and going back to Clemson on
- 38:14Speaker 2: this too. Um, If I'm the head coach, I don't
- 38:18Speaker 2: want multiple voices. It's just defensive coordinator on defense and
- 38:23Speaker 2: just offensive coordinator. I would just limit it. I don't need–
- 38:27Speaker 2: if there's a special line for the analyst on a
- 38:30Speaker 2: fourth down decision, you want to be able to plug
- 38:33Speaker 2: into them.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Just have a channel.
- 38:34Speaker 2: If everybody on the offensive staff that's wired in has
- 38:39Speaker 2: a chance to talk, I feel like that would be
- 38:41Speaker 2: crazy at any point. Way too confusing.
- 38:44Speaker 1: Yeah, you'd have to have many channels. And then imagine
- 38:47Speaker 1: how many people are talking, if you want to listen in,
- 38:50Speaker 1: to just the back and forth from sideline to booth.
- 38:54Speaker 1: And how many people.
- 38:55Speaker 2: There are way too many people on the sideline for
- 38:58Speaker 2: college football. Oh, it's crazy.
- 39:00Speaker 1: Compared to the NFL, which you can barely get to
- 39:03Speaker 1: the sideline to do a stand-up if you're local media.
- 39:07Speaker 1: You can't get a credential to get down there. But
- 39:10Speaker 1: everyone is down there in college football. Just random... donors
- 39:14Speaker 1: and kids, and they stay there for the game. How
- 39:18Speaker 1: many people were there for the A & M game
- 39:20Speaker 1: when you went down to the fourth quarter?
- 39:22Speaker 2: Oh, a ton. The pregame thing is different. We've been
- 39:25Speaker 2: pregame at Ole Miss and Knoxville a couple times. And, like,
- 39:28Speaker 2: there's a ton of people down the sideline then. But
- 39:31Speaker 2: a lot of them are going back up to their
- 39:32Speaker 2: seats when the game starts. I am amazed at the
- 39:35Speaker 2: amount of people who have access to the field. If
- 39:38Speaker 2: I was someone– if I'm an SID at those schools
- 39:40Speaker 2: or game day relations, I would love a policy of, hey,
- 39:44Speaker 2: no one goes on the field unless– You're credentialed media
- 39:47Speaker 2: or you're a part of the staff of one of
- 39:48Speaker 2: the two teams.
- 39:49Speaker 1: But a big play on the sideline.
- 39:50Speaker 2: Think how much easier that would make it, too, to
- 39:52Speaker 2: just cut everyone out of the field. And you can
- 39:55Speaker 2: go in your field side luxury box and sit and
- 40:00Speaker 2: watch the game. You can go here, but you can't
- 40:02Speaker 2: have so many people just roaming around the sideline.
- 40:04Speaker 1: It would drive me crazy. I don't know how people
- 40:06Speaker 1: don't get trucked more often, honestly. Maybe college. Just a
- 40:11Speaker 1: sideline play going out of bounds. just people standing around, not,
- 40:15Speaker 1: I mean, just not a part of the team, just
- 40:17Speaker 1: standing there with, with, uh, I guess with the credential on,
- 40:21Speaker 1: but having the sideline access is nuts. And the security
- 40:24Speaker 1: access at different stadiums is also crazy to me.
- 40:28Speaker 2: Remember when Joe Paterno got trucked on the sideline late
- 40:30Speaker 2: in his career, the one time I always think about
- 40:33Speaker 2: that with someone staying in the corner of the end zone,
- 40:34Speaker 2: not paying attention, looking at their phone, you know, with
- 40:36Speaker 2: a throw in the back of the end zone and
- 40:38Speaker 2: defender or receiver runs over just a fan that's in
- 40:41Speaker 2: the end zone. And, I'm with you. I'm surprised it
- 40:44Speaker 2: doesn't happen more often.
- 40:45Speaker 1: Hey, did you see where PFF had a grade for
- 40:50Speaker 1: Cam Ward, saying that he was one of the best
- 40:53Speaker 1: quarterbacks from the past weekend in performance?
- 40:58Speaker 2: Well, that would make you doubt everything that PFF stands for,
- 41:01Speaker 2: if that's the case.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I saw it from Stillman who put this out. What?
- 41:06Speaker 1: How is that the quality of how they grade these quarterbacks?
- 41:12Speaker 1: And you've got Sala, who's still defending him, but yet
- 41:17Speaker 1: going after the defense, saying it was a defensive issue
- 41:20Speaker 1: against the Browns as to why they lost. It's nuts
- 41:25Speaker 1: how they're protecting him. And then you've got PFF saying
- 41:27Speaker 1: he's one of the best graded quarterbacks of the weekend.
- 41:30Speaker 1: I don't know how that's possible.
- 41:31Speaker 2: It's hard to wrap your mind around the fact that
- 41:34Speaker 2: we're still talking about footwork issues for Cam Ward right now.
- 41:38Speaker 2: I got asked this, someone else, why does Cam Ward–
- 41:42Speaker 2: try to throw the ball from a weird arm slot
- 41:44Speaker 2: when he doesn't have to. Why does Cam Ward plant
- 41:46Speaker 2: his feet and not move them with the throw at times? Hun,
- 41:51Speaker 2: we're deep into season number two in the NFL. I
- 41:55Speaker 2: don't know if it's just defiance from Cam Ward that
- 41:58Speaker 2: this is the way he plays and he's going to
- 42:00Speaker 2: throw the ball like this and he won't listen to anyone.
- 42:02Speaker 2: I refuse to believe that Brian Dayball isn't talking to
- 42:05Speaker 2: him about footwork as a quarterback.
- 42:07Speaker 1: They have to be repping this in practice. But, you know,
- 42:11Speaker 1: he has his own quarterback coach in the offseason. To me,
- 42:14Speaker 1: there's a disconnect there because whatever they're doing in practice
- 42:17Speaker 1: does not transfer to on-the-field play. And the feat of
- 42:23Speaker 1: the quarterback is directly associated with accuracy.
- 42:29Speaker 2: What quarterback coach, though, would say that's okay? I mean,
- 42:32Speaker 2: you really need to get a new quarterback coach. If
- 42:34Speaker 2: anybody is telling him that what he's doing is okay,
- 42:37Speaker 2: then you need to fire that person and find someone new.
- 42:40Speaker 1: And Sala was asked about the– Kowarski is doing a
- 42:44Speaker 1: great job on asking about the fundamentals. And Sala just
- 42:48Speaker 1: said some habits are really hard to break. I'm thinking, what?
- 42:52Speaker 1: We're in the middle of the season after all gas,
- 42:54Speaker 1: no break, all of this hype in the offseason, and
- 42:57Speaker 1: then you get right on the doorstep of the regular season,
- 43:02Speaker 1: and all of a sudden it's this is our floor.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Judge us by the end of the season. It's like
- 43:08Speaker 1: a very abrupt– where everything he knew was not true.
- 43:14Speaker 1: He was going back to a young team instead of
- 43:19Speaker 1: a team that had just spent a ton of money
- 43:21Speaker 1: in the offseason to get veterans on defense and to
- 43:25Speaker 1: add things around the quarterback to raise the bar. And
- 43:29Speaker 1: I don't see the bar moving up the way that
- 43:32Speaker 1: they're talking week to week.
- 43:34Speaker 2: Well, and to me, that goes back to Mike Borgonzi.
- 43:37Speaker 2: If the coach is saying, boy, some habits are really
- 43:39Speaker 2: hard to break, well, you drafted the guy number one overall.
- 43:42Speaker 2: You didn't know that footwork was a problem? Or you
- 43:45Speaker 2: just thought that you could snap your fingers after he's
- 43:47Speaker 2: played football that long and he would change?
- 43:49Speaker 1: The crazy thing is, like, the transfer from college to
- 43:52Speaker 1: the NFL, I mean, he has the record for most
- 43:55Speaker 1: touchdown passes. I mean, he had 36 games of 300-yard performances,
- 43:58Speaker 1: like 11-ish performances of 400-plus. And it wasn't like it
- 44:07Speaker 1: was all in Division II. This was legitimately at Washington
- 44:13Speaker 1: State or at Miami. And that's not the quarterback we see.
- 44:18Speaker 1: It's not a deacon dunk because that's the only way
- 44:20Speaker 1: they can move the football, sometimes.
- 44:24Speaker 2: I would also just say, that's on Cam Ward.
- 44:27Speaker 1: Totally agree.
- 44:28Speaker 2: Come on, man. You can get your feet set on...
- 44:32Speaker 2: I don't buy that. Why did you ever start doing that?
- 44:36Speaker 2: Patrick Mahomes does it out of necessity, and he's really
- 44:39Speaker 2: good at it, but when he's throwing a shortstop arm
- 44:42Speaker 2: slot because he played shortstop and he was a baseball player,
- 44:45Speaker 2: he's doing it because he's getting around a defensive end
- 44:48Speaker 2: and throwing the ball where he needs to. Cam Ward
- 44:50Speaker 2: does it just to do it. He could plant his
- 44:52Speaker 2: feet and throw the ball, and instead he's throwing from
- 44:55Speaker 2: weird sidearm positions. His feet aren't moving. His feet are
- 44:59Speaker 2: facing the wrong direction. He's doing things for no reason
- 45:03Speaker 2: other than it's like he's saying, this is just what
- 45:05Speaker 2: I do, and I want to do it this way,
- 45:07Speaker 2: and you can't tell me how to play.
- 45:09Speaker 1: It looks like they don't practice anything. But they clearly
- 45:12Speaker 1: will and do. I mean, they would rep that. The
- 45:16Speaker 1: other thing, Logan Ryan, who did a great job on
- 45:19Speaker 1: commentary as the analyst in this game for CBS, he
- 45:25Speaker 1: mentioned during the game about the Madden. It's like they're
- 45:27Speaker 1: playing Madden. It looks like Madden. It does. without he
- 45:32Speaker 1: shifts in the pocket and does all this stuff that
- 45:33Speaker 1: you're talking about. At this point, we're, what, 24 games in?
- 45:39Speaker 1: We know. Levis got booted way before this.
- 45:44Speaker 2: And I don't see how they're– we're talking about let's
- 45:49Speaker 2: see how he does by the end of the season.
- 45:51Speaker 2: Do we really think we're going to see a result
- 45:53Speaker 2: that's any different? How does he change our mind at
- 45:56Speaker 2: this point with half a season compared to a year
- 45:59Speaker 2: and a half of what we've seen?
- 46:01Speaker 1: It's bizarre.
- 46:02Speaker 2: Again, the only reason to start him is because you
- 46:07Speaker 2: were saying it doesn't matter what we do the rest
- 46:11Speaker 2: of the way. It's not about winning. It's about getting
- 46:14Speaker 2: the number one pick. So we're going to keep starting
- 46:15Speaker 2: him and trotting him out there. That's the only reason.
- 46:19Speaker 2: You say there are no other things about development and
- 46:22Speaker 2: maybe he can turn it around. It's too late. It
- 46:25Speaker 2: is too late. People say, oh, it's year two and
- 46:27Speaker 2: it This guy is not some young player when he
- 46:30Speaker 2: got to the league. He played a lot of places
- 46:32Speaker 2: in college.
- 46:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you're right.
- 46:33Speaker 2: He's year two in the NFL, and the guy is
- 46:36Speaker 2: still making the same dumb mistakes, and he's not changed
- 46:40Speaker 2: his footwork at all. Maybe it's going to take getting
- 46:44Speaker 2: cut for Cam Ward to listen to an NFL quarterback
- 46:47Speaker 2: coach and change his footwork. Maybe that's the rock-bottom moment
- 46:50Speaker 2: he needs to change how he plays the game. I
- 46:53Speaker 2: don't know. But it's not good enough with what he's
- 46:55Speaker 2: done for your organization. And again, the only reason that
- 46:58Speaker 2: if you're the coach and you're standing in front of
- 46:59Speaker 2: your team and you're saying, hey, Cam Ward's our guy.
- 47:02Speaker 2: It's not a quarterback issue. I'm going to tell you
- 47:03Speaker 2: all these things, even though they're false. And we're going
- 47:06Speaker 2: to keep trotting him out there as a starting quarterback.
- 47:09Speaker 2: The only reason you're doing that is because deep down
- 47:11Speaker 2: you're being told to do it. And it doesn't matter
- 47:14Speaker 2: because you need to lose games because, hey, big outcome
- 47:17Speaker 2: on Sunday. Dolphins win, Titans lose. That's a great, great
- 47:21Speaker 2: outcome for the Titans and the Jeremiah Smith sweepstakes. So
- 47:24Speaker 2: that could be what the Titans are playing for right
- 47:26Speaker 2: now because I can't think of any other reason to
- 47:28Speaker 2: play him and not give Mitch Trubisky a try. If
- 47:32Speaker 2: you're trying to win games, if you're trying to improve
- 47:35Speaker 2: as a team, that's the move that you make.
- 47:37Speaker 1: I think it clearly is a mandate to keep him
- 47:40Speaker 1: in because the example would be Elante Taylor, who they
- 47:44Speaker 1: gave a boatload of money to in the offseason. Now
- 47:46Speaker 1: they've benched him and they're moving him to nickel. Which
- 47:51Speaker 1: is like a linebacker position in the solid defense. Now
- 47:54Speaker 1: they're repping this and getting him ready to play nickel
- 47:57Speaker 1: after paying him like an outside corner. And they've done
- 48:00Speaker 1: it this quickly. Six games in. Salah did that in
- 48:05Speaker 1: his defense, but he won't play the other quarterback. To me,
- 48:10Speaker 1: it's because he can't. If I'm a player on the team,
- 48:14Speaker 1: I'm with you. At some point, you're like, man, you're
- 48:18Speaker 1: preaching to us about all this stuff, but we're really
- 48:20Speaker 1: just playing the quarterback because they're trying to make sure
- 48:23Speaker 1: he's good before they open that stadium.
- 48:25Speaker 2: Yeah, they'll tell stories about this team 15 years from
- 48:28Speaker 2: now that are members of it saying, oh, remember that
- 48:31Speaker 2: year when we were playing for the number one overall
- 48:32Speaker 2: pick and tanking and they kept trotting out the quarterback
- 48:36Speaker 2: who was bad the whole season? I mean, that's how
- 48:38Speaker 2: they're going to talk about this season. We've talked to
- 48:41Speaker 2: former Titans players and players in the league that knew
- 48:44Speaker 2: that they were supposed to lose on a team, that
- 48:46Speaker 2: it was almost a bad thing if they won the game.
- 48:49Speaker 2: The Dolphins And Steven Ross, I know, got in trouble
- 48:51Speaker 2: for this at one point, too, who the Titans are
- 48:53Speaker 2: going to be battling with this year for that number
- 48:55Speaker 2: one pick also. But, yeah, I mean, it's not good.
- 49:00Speaker 2: I mean, again, if you're actually trying to win games,
- 49:03Speaker 2: then that's a move that you make to try something,
- 49:06Speaker 2: and they're not doing it.
- 49:07Speaker 1: I'll go back to these coaches. I'm putting Dable in here, too.
- 49:10Speaker 1: They want to win because of their record as head
- 49:13Speaker 1: coach or their ability to be a head coach again.
- 49:17Speaker 1: Losing games and failing in development is not the way
- 49:20Speaker 1: to do that, especially if you're a second-chance coach with
- 49:23Speaker 1: an opportunity and an owner that quickly will fire you
- 49:26Speaker 1: in year two. Chad, Hard Rock Bet coming up, and
- 49:30Speaker 1: we take a look at the SEC matchups, a quick look.
- 49:33Speaker 1: around the Southeastern Conference and what we're thinking so far.
- 49:37Speaker 1: I've already played a couple of games, but we'll get
- 49:39Speaker 1: your opinion on it next.
- 49:41Speaker 3: This year, the party's getting even bigger.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Hey, there's Jay Boyd. They know me.
- 49:45Speaker 3: This party, everybody's somebody. And Hard Rock Bet has something
- 49:49Speaker 3: for everyone. Plus, new customers bid $ 5 and get up
- 49:53Speaker 3: to $ 500 in no-sweat bets.
- 49:55Speaker 2: Big fan.
- 49:58Speaker 1: And you can roll with us and Chad. On the
- 50:01Speaker 1: locks coming up later this week where you bet $ 5,
- 50:04Speaker 1: you get up to $ 500 in no sweat bets. Hardrock.bet.clay. Hardrock.bet.clay. Chad,
- 50:11Speaker 1: I can't wait to see where you go this week
- 50:13Speaker 1: on Friday. Even though it did work out last week,
- 50:15Speaker 1: your record is impeccable.
- 50:17Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to mix in.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Look at this.
- 50:19Speaker 2: Yeah, there we go. Look at that. Bright, shiny face.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Loving that right there. Some would say angelic, the look
- 50:26Speaker 2: on my face on that one. 15-2 on Friday nights. 15-2.
- 50:30Speaker 2: I'm going to have at least two picks this week.
- 50:32Speaker 2: I'm going to make my lock a Friday night game.
- 50:34Speaker 2: I'll use our three-leg parlay with going for the bundle
- 50:36Speaker 2: for a Friday night also. But have not yet done
- 50:39Speaker 2: the research. Going to do the research. Going to put
- 50:41Speaker 2: in the work. Going to come back tomorrow fresh, ready
- 50:43Speaker 2: to go. And we'll go for the bundle tomorrow, and
- 50:46Speaker 2: I'll have a Friday night pick for you.
- 50:47Speaker 1: Start fresh.
- 50:49Speaker 2: Look around the SEC here. Great shout-out, MacGruber.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Yes, look around the SEC with the early lines. You
- 50:57Speaker 1: can roll with us. It's the power lineup here with
- 51:01Speaker 1: hard rock bet. I've already played two games. I want
- 51:04Speaker 1: to get your opinion. I took Arkansas plus the points
- 51:08Speaker 1: early on this week.
- 51:10Speaker 2: Okay.
- 51:10Speaker 1: I've got Arkansas plus nine and a half.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Did you get it at ten? Because it opened at
- 51:13Speaker 2: ten or ten and a half.
- 51:14Speaker 1: I got it at nine and a half. Okay. And
- 51:17Speaker 1: I played Texas early. And I'm laying the points against
- 51:20Speaker 1: Mississippi State, minus 20.5. These are exactly the points that
- 51:24Speaker 1: I have, and I've already bet.
- 51:25Speaker 2: So when you say laying the points, you've got Texas
- 51:27Speaker 2: minus 20.5. I have Texas minus 20.5 already, yep. So
- 51:31Speaker 2: those are the two I played earlier this week. I
- 51:33Speaker 2: would be hesitant on that Texas one. I like your
- 51:36Speaker 2: Arkansas play. I'd say the one that jumps out to
- 51:38Speaker 2: me that I think could be ugly, I think Ole
- 51:40Speaker 2: Miss wins by two touchdowns, at least, in this game.
- 51:44Speaker 2: I like them at home.
- 51:44Speaker 1: Double the spread.
- 51:45Speaker 2: Over Auburn, I don't know if I'd double the spread,
- 51:48Speaker 2: but I would say 18, 19, 20 points for sure
- 51:52Speaker 2: in that one. Georgia, Florida, that feels like a lot
- 51:56Speaker 2: of points.
- 51:57Speaker 1: I agree.
- 51:57Speaker 2: 10.5, I'm not confident betting either side of that one,
- 52:03Speaker 2: but Georgia, 10.5 feels like a ton to me. I
- 52:07Speaker 2: would take South Carolina.
- 52:08Speaker 1: South Carolina.
- 52:10Speaker 2: I would take a money line at Oklahoma.
- 52:13Speaker 1: I really would.
- 52:15Speaker 2: Lenora Sellers is not having a great passing year, and
- 52:17Speaker 2: he missed some throws against Tennessee. That dude's a load
- 52:20Speaker 2: to bring down. When he's running and their rushing attack
- 52:23Speaker 2: is going, they're really tough to stop. And they start fast. Yeah,
- 52:27Speaker 2: they have in every game. They've blown some two-score leads.
- 52:30Speaker 2: Almost did again this past weekend. But I like South
- 52:33Speaker 2: Carolina on the road against Oklahoma. There's always that, oh, well,
- 52:37Speaker 2: South Carolina just had a big emotional moment. And now
- 52:40Speaker 2: they're going to have the other end of the seesaw
- 52:41Speaker 2: in this game at Oklahoma. But I do like the
- 52:44Speaker 2: Gamecocks in that one. This is as blah of a
- 52:48Speaker 2: week in the SEC as we're going to have outside
- 52:51Speaker 2: of when everybody's playing a bye game early in the
- 52:54Speaker 2: year when they're all paying people to come in and
- 52:56Speaker 2: get their heads beaten in. This is about as bad
- 52:59Speaker 2: as you're going to get in the SEC this week.
- 53:00Speaker 1: On Saturday, there are profit boosts available. through Hard Rock
- 53:04Speaker 1: Bet and the app. So download the app. Very easy
- 53:06Speaker 1: to use. The Auburn win against Georgia and then the
- 53:12Speaker 1: way LSU played against Auburn has me questioning Georgia right now.
- 53:18Speaker 1: And that's why I would take the points against Florida
- 53:22Speaker 1: right now. I'm not playing that yet. I want to
- 53:24Speaker 1: see what happens with that line. But especially in that game,
- 53:28Speaker 1: Although it's being played in Atlanta instead of the traditional
- 53:33Speaker 1: neutral field in Atlanta, that's a home game for Georgia.
- 53:36Speaker 1: We know that.
- 53:38Speaker 2: I think that might end up being the craziest one-off
- 53:41Speaker 2: of the SEC season when all is said and done.
- 53:44Speaker 2: I don't think Auburn's that good. I don't think Byron
- 53:47Speaker 2: Brown's that good. I don't think their offense is good
- 53:49Speaker 2: at all this year.
- 53:50Speaker 1: It's just the way they came.
- 53:51Speaker 2: And they fell right back down against LSU this game. Now,
- 53:54Speaker 2: they could prove me wrong this week. If they even
- 53:56Speaker 2: take it down to the wire– against Ole Miss, I'd say, okay,
- 53:58Speaker 2: Auburn has gotten a lot better and they're here to stay.
- 54:01Speaker 2: But I just think that's, we're going to look back
- 54:03Speaker 2: at the end of the year and say, hey, remember
- 54:04Speaker 2: when Auburn went on the road and won on a
- 54:07Speaker 2: walk-off field goal at Georgia? How wild was that? It's
- 54:10Speaker 2: not going to be a sign of things to come
- 54:11Speaker 2: this year. I like Alex Golish. I think he'll figure
- 54:14Speaker 2: it out at Auburn. But I think that we're going
- 54:16Speaker 2: to look back and say that it was crazy that
- 54:18Speaker 2: that happened.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Hey, the next round takes over right now. Sporting State Network.
- 54:23Speaker 1: We're back at it tomorrow morning, 8 Eastern. Hutton and
- 54:26Speaker 1: Withrow presented by Hard Rock Bet.
