Speaker 2: to spend some time talking about this Saturday's Charlie West
1:50
Speaker 2: Barbecue Fest, which is happened. It's like Plaza downtown. All
1:53
Speaker 2: that more it coming up now, it's for the weather

2:13
Speaker 2: some lingering showers around on Thursday. It's going to turn
2:15
Speaker 2: cooler as we head towards the end of the week.
2:18
Speaker 2: You can download the Metro News TV app and follow
2:20
Speaker 2: Brian on Facebook for the latest weather info. We've told
2:25
Speaker 2: you about the closing of the Kroger location in Dunbar
2:28
Speaker 2: making way for the new one in South Charleston. How
2:31
Speaker 2: many Kroger shoppers are wondering what that's going to mean
2:33
Speaker 2: for them. Delegate Hollis Lewis serves the area as the
2:37
Speaker 2: representative out of a district fifty seven. Editors note he
2:40
Speaker 2: is running unopposed in today's primary election, so he's not
2:43
Speaker 2: here campaigning. He's here in his delegate roll in a
2:45
Speaker 2: community role. How you doing, my friend, Welcome to the show.
2:48
Speaker 4: I am doing excellent. Thank you for having me on today.
2:51
Speaker 2: The Dunbar Kroger now closed. And while it's great that
2:57
Speaker 2: this new one is being built and is going to open,
2:59
Speaker 2: up soon South Charleston at the new park Place. There
3:01
Speaker 2: are some residents of Dunbar and you and I talked
3:03
Speaker 2: about it on the Midday Show not long ago. There's
3:05
Speaker 2: some residents of Dunbar have a a little bit of
3:08
Speaker 2: trepidational heartburn over this.
3:11
Speaker 5: Yes, and first I want to say, like you know,
3:13
Speaker 5: the marketplace opening in South Charleston, it's going to be
3:16
Speaker 5: a great thing for the community overall. If you've ever
3:18
Speaker 5: been to a marketplace in Columbus or Cincinnati, you know
3:22
Speaker 5: that the variety of products that they can offer is
3:25
Speaker 5: a good thing. And I do most of my shopping
3:27
Speaker 5: at Krogers. But far as the citizens of Dunbar is concerned,
3:31
Speaker 5: you know it's going to be It's going to be
3:33
Speaker 5: a hit.
3:33
Speaker 4: You know.
3:34
Speaker 5: Not only does it serve as far as groceries are concerned,
3:37
Speaker 5: but there's the pharmacies, there's the bill pay and a
3:40
Speaker 5: lot of other services that Kroger provides not only for constituents,
3:44
Speaker 5: but also just for that plaza and for the city
3:47
Speaker 5: of Dunbar. In addition, we do have several senior community
3:50
Speaker 5: living facilities in close proximity to that Krogers that those
3:56
Speaker 5: seniors would be able to walk to. And if you've
3:58
Speaker 5: ever been to Dunbar spending any time, often see people
4:00
Speaker 5: walking back and forth across tenth Street to go to
4:04
Speaker 5: that dumbar. So it is going to be you know,
4:07
Speaker 5: effect on our community. Not to mention the being old
4:10
Speaker 5: taxes that the city of Dunbar will now not be
4:13
Speaker 5: able to utilize.
4:14
Speaker 2: And what kind of ballpark figure we talking with does
4:16
Speaker 2: being old taxes.
4:18
Speaker 4: It's pretty significant.
4:19
Speaker 5: You're talking close to a million dollars and being ol
4:22
Speaker 5: taxi for a city the size of Dunbar, that's a
4:24
Speaker 5: stiff economic hit.
4:27
Speaker 2: And I know you and others have had discussions about
4:31
Speaker 2: trying to get another grocery store to come into Dunbar.
4:35
Speaker 2: I heard I think our news Bar caught up with
4:37
Speaker 2: the mayor there and he did an interview about that.
4:40
Speaker 2: Do you have any idea how that search is going?
4:41
Speaker 6: Well?
4:42
Speaker 5: Yeah, the city they've been working hard for the last
4:45
Speaker 5: maybe close to a year since they got the news
4:47
Speaker 5: to try to reach out to other grocers to see
4:51
Speaker 5: if they would be interested in coming too the area.
4:54
Speaker 5: You know, myself, a couple other delegates, a couple other
4:57
Speaker 5: senators in addition to the city officials in Dunbar and
5:01
Speaker 5: the Charleston Area Alliance have been working out and reaching
5:04
Speaker 5: out to Center Capitol to work with Kroger's, to work
5:07
Speaker 5: with the landowner, and to reach out to other groceries
5:10
Speaker 5: to see if it would be, you know, economically viable
5:13
Speaker 5: for them to come into the area.
5:14
Speaker 2: But now there are other grocery stores in the area.
5:17
Speaker 2: I mean because last time I talked to you, I
5:18
Speaker 2: think somebody sent me a text about Aldi is there.
5:20
Speaker 5: But yeah, all these is there. We have Dollar Journal,
5:24
Speaker 5: we have Cvs and Walgreens. And I think the problem
5:27
Speaker 5: is is that you know, all these is great. I
5:29
Speaker 5: do some shopping there. However, if you've ever been in there,
5:32
Speaker 5: they have a limited a variety of products. The products
5:35
Speaker 5: rotating change depending on you know, their orders, so the
5:39
Speaker 5: familiar arity of products are not going to be the
5:42
Speaker 5: same as Kroger's. In addition, as I mentioned previously, Kroger's
5:45
Speaker 5: now it's kind of a one stop shop right where
5:48
Speaker 5: you have the pharmacy, you have bill Pay lottery, you
5:51
Speaker 5: can get other products, and you also have the grocery store.
5:55
Speaker 5: In addition, when we talk about the Kruggers, it's sort
5:58
Speaker 5: of like the lynch pin. It's sort of like the
6:00
Speaker 5: primary business for that plaza, which would provide the foot
6:04
Speaker 5: traffic to you know, feed other business in the other area.
6:08
Speaker 5: And we've seen you know, several other business in that plaza.
6:12
Speaker 5: One moved, a couple are closing down, so it's having
6:15
Speaker 5: a you know effect beyond.
6:17
Speaker 2: Temper ripple effect.
6:18
Speaker 4: Yeah, in addition to the gas station too.
6:21
Speaker 2: We're talking to you, Delegate Hollis Lewis for Dave Island
6:23
Speaker 2: Show on five eighty line is brought to you in
6:24
Speaker 2: part by the Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds are at home tonight.
6:27
Speaker 2: Go Ballpark two dollars Tuesday, two dollars game tickets, hot dogs,
6:31
Speaker 2: water or soda, and mini golf as the Birds will
6:33
Speaker 2: take on Lexington and get your tickets now at Dirty
6:35
Speaker 2: Birds Baseball dot com. Now, it has been said to me,
6:38
Speaker 2: and you've been in negotiations, you know a lot more
6:40
Speaker 2: this than I do. But it was said to me
6:43
Speaker 2: that the Kroger I guess the corporation holds the lease
6:46
Speaker 2: on the building. Yeah, and that they aren't giving it up.
6:49
Speaker 5: Is that Well, we've been talking to officials at Kroger's
6:53
Speaker 5: and those officials are willing to work, Okay, so they're
6:56
Speaker 5: they're not. You know that they're not now even the
7:00
Speaker 5: fact that what's going on to the community, and they
7:02
Speaker 5: understand the effect Crogres's is going to have by moving
7:05
Speaker 5: out of the community. So they've been able to they've
7:08
Speaker 5: been flexible.
7:09
Speaker 2: Okay, well, and I will say that you know, we've
7:11
Speaker 2: talked about this with reporting not. If anybody from Kroger
7:14
Speaker 2: would want to issue a statement or come on the
7:15
Speaker 2: air with us, you know, they're more than welcome to
7:17
Speaker 2: because it's my it's been my experience in the past
7:20
Speaker 2: and various community that Kroger does tend to be a
7:22
Speaker 2: good community partner.
7:23
Speaker 4: One hundred percent.
7:24
Speaker 5: And uh, you know Mara, she's the CEO at Charcon
7:28
Speaker 5: Area Alliance.
7:29
Speaker 4: When she was with Senator.
7:33
Speaker 5: She did this happened in other communities, and Krogress has
7:36
Speaker 5: been very you know friendly to communities and they understand
7:39
Speaker 5: the plight that you know, a grocery store can have
7:41
Speaker 5: when they leave.
7:42
Speaker 2: Yeah, and you know it's especially with it's going to
7:47
Speaker 2: sound very ageist when I say this, but but but
7:49
Speaker 2: I mean our older population, of which by the way,
7:52
Speaker 2: I'm I'm one, Uh kind of get into the habits
7:56
Speaker 2: of you know, the you know, the every especially if
7:58
Speaker 2: they're retired. Everything kind of you know, centers around the
8:02
Speaker 2: trips to the grocery store off and so on and
8:05
Speaker 2: so forth.
8:05
Speaker 5: So yeah, in addition, you know, like Krugers has extended hours,
8:08
Speaker 5: so they open up I believe six to seven am.
8:11
Speaker 4: They close around ten or eleven.
8:12
Speaker 5: So again, other grocery stores in the area and Dunbar
8:16
Speaker 5: they don't have those hours. So you know, it's going
8:19
Speaker 5: to have in a ripple effect in addition to people
8:21
Speaker 5: not having you know, reliable transportation. We've seen the price
8:24
Speaker 5: of gas. A lot of people are choosing a walk
8:26
Speaker 5: because you have the neighborhoods in such close proximity to
8:28
Speaker 5: that Krogers, So you know, like like you said, it's
8:31
Speaker 5: going to have that ripple effect.
8:33
Speaker 2: We had a text here, I don't think you'd mind
8:35
Speaker 2: me reading this. What about the new bridge location in
8:38
Speaker 2: regards to that building.
8:40
Speaker 5: Again, I've heard that I haven't heard any specifics about
8:43
Speaker 5: when that bridge is going to be potentially being knockdown
8:46
Speaker 5: in another one erected, so don't I don't know specifics
8:50
Speaker 5: on that currently.
8:51
Speaker 2: We had another text for your popular Guide. It is
8:53
Speaker 2: It says, please ask codl Us if he's aware of
8:55
Speaker 2: any plans to close West Side Kroger Charleston City Council.
8:58
Speaker 2: Folks from that side of town haven't heard anything that
9:02
Speaker 2: would kill our neighborhoods and create a huge food desert.
9:05
Speaker 2: I haven't heard.
9:05
Speaker 4: I haven't heard anything about that. It's good.
9:08
Speaker 2: I'm almost hesit to even bring that up, because that
9:11
Speaker 2: gets people, you know, going, yeah, I have I haven't heard.
9:13
Speaker 4: Anything anything like that.
9:14
Speaker 5: And again, I don't think that would be even you know, logistically,
9:18
Speaker 5: we need that covers over there.
9:20
Speaker 2: Again, we're talking with Delegate Hollis Lewis, and and again
9:24
Speaker 2: we're hoping that it's hoping that something could be worked
9:26
Speaker 2: out because one of the things that I like about
9:29
Speaker 2: what you folks are trying to do over there in
9:31
Speaker 2: a bad situation. Uh, And look, it's a positive situation
9:34
Speaker 2: from the city of South Charleston one hundred percent. Don't
9:36
Speaker 2: get me wrong. But you're focused on maybe the people
9:39
Speaker 2: that can't that don't necessarily have the access to go there.
9:42
Speaker 2: But you've got a wide variety of people. I mean,
9:44
Speaker 2: you got Republicans, Democrats, people from you know, the city
9:48
Speaker 2: of Dunbar. You mentioned, Maar with the folks with Charleston
9:51
Speaker 2: area allies. Everybody's working together on this.
9:53
Speaker 4: One hundred percent.
9:53
Speaker 5: That is a bipartisan effort, and I often say we
9:56
Speaker 5: have probably more in common than we do, you know,
9:58
Speaker 5: than we disagree about, you know, particularly when it becomes
10:01
Speaker 5: to issues like this, And it's good that we can
10:03
Speaker 5: you know, set other issues aside in a rally behind
10:07
Speaker 5: something like this, because I think you know, where Dunbar
10:10
Speaker 5: is located. It's an important city, you know, particularly what's
10:13
Speaker 5: happening at Shawnee and different things of that nature. So
10:16
Speaker 5: we have to ensure that that city is viable in
10:20
Speaker 5: order to you know, service West Dunbar, in order to
10:23
Speaker 5: service West Virginia State University, and you know, just be
10:26
Speaker 5: right there as far as when we need when we
10:29
Speaker 5: have visitors coming in, we have a hotel right there.
10:32
Speaker 5: So and again when we talk about that, you know
10:34
Speaker 5: that sports tourism that you sports tourism. You know, they
10:38
Speaker 5: need to go to the to the grocery stores to
10:40
Speaker 5: get the waters and the fruit and all that sort
10:42
Speaker 5: of thing. So we want something in close proximity to
10:44
Speaker 5: service that economic boom that's happening at Shawnee and West
10:48
Speaker 5: Virginia State, you know.
10:49
Speaker 2: So what's next what's next in this again?
10:52
Speaker 5: What's next is that again we're working with Kruger's in
10:55
Speaker 5: order to figure out, you know, the leasing situation, work
10:57
Speaker 5: with the landowner and uh, you know, the city of
11:00
Speaker 5: Dunbar is continuing to solicit other grocery stores, whether it's
11:04
Speaker 5: local or national change, to see if they would be
11:08
Speaker 5: interested in coming to Dunbar.
11:10
Speaker 2: All right, So I want to ask you a election
11:12
Speaker 2: related question. This is I mean it is election d eight.
11:15
Speaker 2: Did you vote? I know you're if you have a
11:16
Speaker 2: vote yet you're going to Did you early voter? Are
11:18
Speaker 2: you an election?
11:19
Speaker 4: Really voted?
11:19
Speaker 5: And it's a special time for me. My daughter she's seventeen,
11:23
Speaker 5: she turns eighteen this year, so this was her first
11:25
Speaker 5: time voting and she got the vote for her dad.
11:27
Speaker 2: All right, special time for me. Well do you think
11:30
Speaker 2: she did well? I hope she did so I'm not
11:33
Speaker 2: just going to pay that college education. There you go. Well, Hollison,
11:38
Speaker 2: it's always pleasure to have you on the show man,
11:40
Speaker 2: And again it's a tricky situation. We're very happy and
11:42
Speaker 2: the folks are for the people of South Charles and
11:44
Speaker 2: not just I mean this because this park place is
11:46
Speaker 2: going to be huge for all of Western and where
11:48
Speaker 2: people come in. But you know, we're also trying to
11:51
Speaker 2: help out, you know.
11:52
Speaker 5: Yeah, Like I said, this is in no way an indictment.
11:54
Speaker 5: We fully support what's going on in South Charles and
11:56
Speaker 5: fully support of Mayor Mullins down there. However, this is
12:00
Speaker 5: we're just strictly talking about Dunbar and the citizens.
12:03
Speaker 2: Nuss Dellegan, Hollis Lewis appreciate it, man, Thanks, thank you, sir.
12:06
Speaker 2: We'll talk soon. We'll take a break and come back.
12:08
Speaker 2: How about a little barbecue. We're going to tell barbecue
12:10
Speaker 2: when we come back on the Voice of Charleston WCCHS.

15:05
Speaker 2: or can't afford uber to go door to door from
15:08
Speaker 2: their homes to the Kroger or that whole new park
15:10
Speaker 2: place area so they could at least just get their
15:13
Speaker 2: shopping done, it, says the texturem Texas. Dunbar should get
15:18
Speaker 2: some nice hotels built for the people of the popular
15:20
Speaker 2: Shawnee Sports Park. With all those people, a new grocery
15:22
Speaker 2: store would be needed. Problem solved, says the Texture Texas.
15:27
Speaker 2: So it looks like Kennawk County School is losing more money.
15:29
Speaker 2: It's sad more service personnel and teacher positions will be
15:32
Speaker 2: cut because of the Board of Education and superintendent's office
15:35
Speaker 2: can't create a system that attracts and retains students, says
15:39
Speaker 2: a taxter. All right, I want to talk about something
15:41
Speaker 2: we can all agree on right now, and that's barbecue.
15:43
Speaker 2: This Saturday, it's the Charlie West Barbecue Fastest Slight Plaza
15:46
Speaker 2: in Charleston. David Menzer here to talk about it. Welcome
15:49
Speaker 2: to the show, sir, Thank you man, and to be here.
15:51
Speaker 2: And you automatically got on my good side by coming
15:54
Speaker 2: in and complimenting me because I'm wearing Dallas cowboy gear today,
15:58
Speaker 2: a diehard always, all right. And you're from New York.
16:01
Speaker 8: I'm from New York.
16:03
Speaker 2: Somebody from New York become a cowboy.
16:04
Speaker 8: Everybody I knew was a Buffalo Bills fan. And I'm
16:06
Speaker 8: a contrarian, so I could not do that.
16:08
Speaker 2: See when you think New York, automatically my mind thinks
16:11
Speaker 2: Giants and Jets. But I forget there is that other
16:14
Speaker 2: team up there, Rochester.
16:15
Speaker 8: Everybody's Bills fans.
16:16
Speaker 2: Basically that's a mafia up there as well.
16:18
Speaker 8: Think that's right.
16:18
Speaker 2: Bill's mafia a.
16:19
Speaker 8: Real problem, all right.
16:21
Speaker 2: So this Saturday, it's Charlie West Barbecue fas slack Plaza'll
16:25
Speaker 2: talk about this event and we'll get specifics.
16:26
Speaker 8: Don't get bored of voting, don't get tired of voting today,
16:29
Speaker 8: come down and vote for best barbecue. Charlie West Barbecue
16:32
Speaker 8: fes this Saturday, so May sixteenth, We're down at Slack
16:36
Speaker 8: Plaza two pm. We start goes till seven thirty and
16:39
Speaker 8: we've got a bunch of competition teams, all submitting blind
16:43
Speaker 8: judged pork ribs, sauce, and wild card, and then the
16:48
Speaker 8: public can come through by tasting tickets for a dollar
16:50
Speaker 8: each taste all the competitors barbecue, and then vote on
16:54
Speaker 8: what they think is the best one. And that's the
16:55
Speaker 8: big trophy, that's the people's choice.
16:58
Speaker 2: And this is a fundraiser for the Barbardet's Center.
17:00
Speaker 8: It is it's the Barberdet Center is an after school
17:02
Speaker 8: program that's free for kids on the West Side. We
17:04
Speaker 8: get about one hundred and twenty kids come in every day,
17:07
Speaker 8: feed them a hot dinner. We have certified tutors come
17:09
Speaker 8: in and help them with their schoolwork, and then bring
17:12
Speaker 8: in programming like stem and robotics and dance and music
17:17
Speaker 8: and all kinds of stuff that just give those kids
17:19
Speaker 8: a chance to do things otherwise wouldn't get to do.
17:21
Speaker 2: It's one of the things I like and learning about
17:23
Speaker 2: the Barber Deet Center is you said you have all
17:26
Speaker 2: those different things. So sometimes people think about an after
17:28
Speaker 2: school program and they're basically thinking about nothing wrong with babysitters,
17:31
Speaker 2: don't get me wrong, but you're you're thinking about it.
17:34
Speaker 2: It's a place for people to hang out, and that's
17:36
Speaker 2: there's something to be said for that. But there's a
17:37
Speaker 2: lot of learning that goes on there to day.
17:39
Speaker 8: There is, there is, And we're in two of the
17:41
Speaker 8: schools over on the West Side, and so we have
17:43
Speaker 8: relationships with these kids. Teachers. We know what their homework is.
17:46
Speaker 8: So if we get a kid that comes in and go,
17:47
Speaker 8: I don't have any homework today, we know they do. Yeah,
17:51
Speaker 8: so we get them, We get them taken care of
17:53
Speaker 8: because you know, some of those kids don't have help
17:55
Speaker 8: once they get home, all kinds of circumstances. Weve got
17:58
Speaker 8: grandparents that are teaching kids and trying to help them
18:00
Speaker 8: and raise their grandkids and they don't have a clue
18:02
Speaker 8: what calculus is. So that's where these suitor certified tutors
18:06
Speaker 8: come in.
18:07
Speaker 2: And let's get back to the barbecue for mom, because
18:09
Speaker 2: for me, it always goes back to the food. Are
18:11
Speaker 2: you a barbecue person yourself?
18:12
Speaker 8: I am? That's why I started this.
18:13
Speaker 2: Okay, all right, all right, so talk about your love
18:15
Speaker 2: of barbecue. And how you got into this, I mean
18:18
Speaker 2: not with the with the particular van, I mean just
18:20
Speaker 2: barbecue in general.
18:21
Speaker 1: Sure.
18:21
Speaker 8: So so my brother got me into it, and I've
18:25
Speaker 8: been barbecuing ever since. I got seven smokers in my
18:27
Speaker 8: house right now, and so it's an addiction. I can't
18:30
Speaker 8: do anything about that. Yeah, yeah, it's pretty clear. But
18:33
Speaker 8: we now we So we've had now six different competitors
18:37
Speaker 8: in Backyard Barbecue from Barbie Charlie West Barbecue Fest that
18:41
Speaker 8: now have professional either catering companies or restaurants that do barbecue.
18:45
Speaker 8: And so yeah, it's it's and they all that they
18:48
Speaker 8: all come back and they go, man, it wouldn't have
18:49
Speaker 8: happened if I wouldn't come here and done this. And
18:52
Speaker 8: so we do have room for one more or two
18:54
Speaker 8: more competitors, depending if there's anybody out there that wants
18:57
Speaker 8: to do it. You can find information online at w
19:00
Speaker 8: WW dot Charlie westbbqfest dot com and it'll tell you all
19:04
Speaker 8: the information about how to enter and what we're looking for.
19:07
Speaker 8: Blind judge submissions in most four categories, a wild card,
19:10
Speaker 8: best sauce, pulled pork and ribs, and then again that
19:14
Speaker 8: People's choice for the people who come in and get samples.
19:17
Speaker 2: I want to talk about the sauces for a moment,
19:19
Speaker 2: because there's as many different types of sauces as there
19:22
Speaker 2: are leaves on the trees. I mean, there's so many
19:24
Speaker 2: different ways to prepare it. From your personal standpoint, when
19:29
Speaker 2: you're preparing barbecue at your home or wherever, what do
19:32
Speaker 2: you like and what do you think makes a good sauce.
19:34
Speaker 8: You're going to die from this. I don't use sauce.
19:36
Speaker 8: I like Texas barbecue, which is beef and it's so
19:39
Speaker 8: good without sauce. You just don't need it.
19:41
Speaker 2: There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. My wife and I,
19:44
Speaker 2: I will say, she makes ribs a lot, and we
19:47
Speaker 2: never use sauce on the ribs because I prefer like
19:49
Speaker 2: a dry rub something like that. But I mean there's
19:51
Speaker 2: a place for the sauce too, Maybe for me, a
19:53
Speaker 2: little bit at the side, maybe just to dip it.
19:55
Speaker 8: Yeah, yep makes sense to me. And if I'm going
19:58
Speaker 8: to do that, I want a vinegar based sauce. I
20:00
Speaker 8: want something with a little tag and some heat to it.
20:02
Speaker 2: I want a lot of heat to it. But that's
20:03
Speaker 2: just me.
20:04
Speaker 8: What's your favorite?
20:06
Speaker 2: All the above? All of them, all of them now,
20:08
Speaker 2: I like it. I mean anything, it's got a little heat.
20:10
Speaker 2: Like I said, I don't I'm not. I'm not a
20:12
Speaker 2: big sauce guy, so I prefer dry rub. We do
20:15
Speaker 2: a lot of mesquite. My wife found this black cherry
20:19
Speaker 2: seasoning that she uses and it sounds weird, but this black,
20:22
Speaker 2: this black cherry stuff is excellent. I'm good. Ribs nice,
20:26
Speaker 2: all right, So give us all the details again about
20:30
Speaker 2: the actual event, because I mean, we're we're kind. I
20:32
Speaker 2: don't want people to think this is just just for
20:34
Speaker 2: professionals or whatever. We want people to come out and
20:36
Speaker 2: eat the barbecue.
20:37
Speaker 8: Yes, exactly right. So the public will come in. There's
20:40
Speaker 8: no fee to get in, there's no wristband to buy.
20:42
Speaker 8: We got music all day to you come and listen
20:44
Speaker 8: to for free, and it's good music. It's Matt Mullins
20:47
Speaker 8: and bring downs as our headliner starts at six o'clock.
20:50
Speaker 8: At four o'clock, we've got a parachute brigade going on,
20:53
Speaker 8: and at two o'clock we've got a band called eleven eleven,
20:55
Speaker 8: which is kind of a jazz thing to ease into it.
20:58
Speaker 8: So come down, listen to music that's all free. We're
21:02
Speaker 8: selling beer, we're selling water, we're selling soft drinks. We're
21:05
Speaker 8: selling tasting tickets for a dollar each. And when you
21:08
Speaker 8: buy ten tasting tickets, you get a vote for who's
21:11
Speaker 8: got the best barbecue. And that's what we want you
21:13
Speaker 8: to do is go around sample everybody's and then tell
21:16
Speaker 8: us who's the best.
21:17
Speaker 2: I got a text here for you. Okay, what exactly
21:20
Speaker 2: is the best? Wild card category? Is that side dishes
21:23
Speaker 2: or things like pulled chicken.
21:24
Speaker 8: Wild card is anything smoked, and I mean anything. So
21:26
Speaker 8: we've had some wild things. We've had some wild wild cards, right,
21:30
Speaker 8: but we've had smoked margarita's. Somebody smoked limes and salt
21:35
Speaker 8: and made it with a reposado and they were unbelievably good.
21:39
Speaker 8: We've had people do desserts that are smoked. We've had
21:42
Speaker 8: people do brisket, chicken wings, salmon, smoked, all kinds of stuff.
21:47
Speaker 2: I want to hear more about this smoke dessert.
21:50
Speaker 8: Well, there are at least two guys down here on
21:53
Speaker 8: this Saturday that will have smoke dessert. And their thought
21:55
Speaker 8: is by the time the judges get to this wild
21:57
Speaker 8: card category for blind judging, they're going to be done
22:00
Speaker 8: with pork and sweet stuff and all that, and they're
22:03
Speaker 8: going to want something like we did a smoked banana
22:06
Speaker 8: split last year and it was awesome and it one
22:10
Speaker 8: first place.
22:11
Speaker 2: I mean I would try it. I mean I love
22:12
Speaker 2: banana splits and I loved anything smoke, So I'm in.
22:15
Speaker 8: Yep, it's And we've had people do pork belly as
22:17
Speaker 8: a Cinnmon roll, which was pretty cool. That got some
22:21
Speaker 8: high marks, but yeah, it's all over the map. Wild
22:25
Speaker 8: Card is whatever you think you can do best. What
22:29
Speaker 8: I do is my because I cook in this thing.
22:31
Speaker 8: I have a team, and so I'll do five or
22:33
Speaker 8: six different things that could be submitted as wild card.
22:36
Speaker 8: Whatever is ready, and whatever comes out looking the best
22:38
Speaker 8: goes on the plate.
22:39
Speaker 2: All right, what are some of your favorite side dishes?
22:42
Speaker 2: You know?
22:43
Speaker 8: I like greens, Oh, I love Yeah, I love greens,
22:46
Speaker 8: but it's tough to make good greens, right or to
22:48
Speaker 8: find good greens. I like greens. Mac and cheese is
22:50
Speaker 8: always a favorite, and we have a bunch of people
22:52
Speaker 8: that smoke mac and cheese. There will be some dishes
22:54
Speaker 8: down there that are not meat based, and so if
22:56
Speaker 8: somebody is not a meat eater or wants to take
22:58
Speaker 8: a break and have a side. We'll have that stuff too.
23:01
Speaker 2: Now I'm hungry now you know that. And it's nine
23:03
Speaker 2: thirty on election Day, which means I'm not going to
23:04
Speaker 2: get out of here for about another fifteen hours tonight.
23:06
Speaker 2: But I want some barbecue.
23:08
Speaker 8: I'll bring you a sandwich now, and I'll get you
23:10
Speaker 8: a barbecue on Saturday.
23:11
Speaker 2: Say, utilize one of your seven smokers day if you would,
23:14
Speaker 2: and go home and get us something, because we're all
23:16
Speaker 2: going to be working like late late overnight here tonight,
23:18
Speaker 2: so you can help us out, you know, by bringing
23:20
Speaker 2: some stuff from your personal kitchen. We can't around a lot.
23:23
Speaker 2: But this is like, I mean, we're having a lot
23:25
Speaker 2: of fun with this event, but this is serious biz.
23:28
Speaker 2: When it comes to the work that you guys do
23:29
Speaker 2: at the Predet Center.
23:30
Speaker 8: It is this is our sole annual fundraiser. And so
23:32
Speaker 8: all of the proceeds, not forty percent, not eighty percent,
23:36
Speaker 8: not after expenses, all of it, everything goes to the
23:39
Speaker 8: Bomberdet Center.
23:40
Speaker 2: What do you need for the Bomberdet Center? I mean
23:41
Speaker 2: what I mean other than obviously funds to keep it going,
23:44
Speaker 2: but I mean, what what's some of the things that
23:46
Speaker 2: people are listening right now and they'd like to get
23:48
Speaker 2: involved to just help out, like volunteers or things like that.
23:50
Speaker 8: Yes, So one of the biggest things we have right
23:52
Speaker 8: now is a mentoring program. And the idea is that
23:55
Speaker 8: every kid needs to know that one person cares about them,
23:58
Speaker 8: and sometimes they don't get that at home times. They
24:00
Speaker 8: may have a teacher at school, they may have a
24:02
Speaker 8: coach that was me. I always did sports grown up,
24:04
Speaker 8: so I always had coaches that I felt cared about.
24:06
Speaker 8: I mean, I knew it, and some of these kids
24:09
Speaker 8: just don't have that. And so we've got a mentoring
24:11
Speaker 8: program we're building up now. If anybody is interested by
24:14
Speaker 8: all means, go to the www dot Bob Burdettecenter dot
24:19
Speaker 8: org website or look for us on Facebook and you
24:23
Speaker 8: can get involved. We have plenty of room for people.
24:26
Speaker 2: Talking to David Menzer again that the Charlie West Barbecue
24:29
Speaker 2: Fest is this Saturday downtown. It' slight positive. Dave Allan
24:32
Speaker 2: show on five eighty Live is brought to you part
24:34
Speaker 2: by Morgan Tomorgan. If you're injured, hire morgana Morgan, America's
24:37
Speaker 2: largest injury law fair. And we had another text here
24:39
Speaker 2: for you. Will there be individual bottles of sauces by
24:42
Speaker 2: those groups for sale.
24:43
Speaker 8: There will be in competition level, because there's a separate
24:46
Speaker 8: backyard tier from the competition level tier, and all those
24:49
Speaker 8: guys that are professionals now have to be in competition tier.
24:52
Speaker 8: Some of them will have bottles of their sauce for sale.
24:56
Speaker 2: I want to talk about the competition aspect of it.
24:59
Speaker 2: I mean, you've got a backyard and you've got the
25:02
Speaker 2: competitors here, But to where all are people coming from
25:05
Speaker 2: that that are competitors?
25:06
Speaker 4: All right?
25:06
Speaker 8: So it's all local. We've got some people from maybe
25:09
Speaker 8: as far away as you know, there's some Elk River people. Okay,
25:12
Speaker 8: and that's about it.
25:13
Speaker 2: Okay, that's fine.
25:14
Speaker 8: Yeah, Charleston's best. And this all started because it was
25:16
Speaker 8: me and a bunch of my buddies that figured we
25:18
Speaker 8: could all make better barbecue than each other. We all
25:20
Speaker 8: had smokers for Christmas one year, and so we started
25:23
Speaker 8: it that way and it's grown into this thing which
25:26
Speaker 8: is just beautiful now.
25:27
Speaker 2: And the thing about this event that I think is
25:29
Speaker 2: going to be so cool is that even if you're
25:31
Speaker 2: not Heaven forbid, you godless communists, a barbecue person, you
25:36
Speaker 2: can come down and just hang out and enjoy the music.
25:38
Speaker 2: There's no charge to get in. Obviously, if you're gonna
25:40
Speaker 2: buy food, you're gonna pay for that. But I mean,
25:41
Speaker 2: if you just want to come down and hang out,
25:43
Speaker 2: fellowship a little bit and enjoy some music on a
25:45
Speaker 2: Saturday afternoon in the capital city, you can certainly do that.
25:48
Speaker 8: Yep. Weather's supposed to beautiful. Come on down, all right.
25:51
Speaker 2: Give us the information where people can learn more again.
25:53
Speaker 8: Yep, it's www dot Charlie West bbqfest dot com.
25:57
Speaker 2: All right, David Benzer, we appreciate you being here, luck
26:00

29:11
Speaker 2: that is Almost Heaven Interiors and we do the adopomy.
29:14
Speaker 2: Please better the week every Friday morning with Angie Gill
29:16
Speaker 2: and Water from the Canaal Charleston YU Maine Association at
29:19
Speaker 2: nine oh six, Texas Day for the barbecue competition. Are
29:24
Speaker 2: there restrictions on what type of smoker is allowed? Pellet
29:27
Speaker 2: smokers with Wi Fi connectivity seemed like blasphemy, but are
29:31
Speaker 2: becoming more popular. I don't know. Dave had to leave
29:35
Speaker 2: us the other day because that's what we need. His
29:37
Speaker 2: company is another day had to leave us. I will
29:40
Speaker 2: see if I can get you an answer for that.
29:43
Speaker 2: But I'll tell you. I you know, I'm a person
29:45
Speaker 2: that loves barbecue. I'm not a big preparer of such myself.
29:51
Speaker 2: But man, I get some buddies of mind that I
29:53
Speaker 2: mean this. You know, David just said he had seven
29:55
Speaker 2: different smokers in his in his house. Seven. Okay, that's
30:00
Speaker 2: a lot of smoke. But there's people that just absolutely
30:04
Speaker 2: go all out, all out for these competitions and so
30:08
Speaker 2: on and so forth, and not just competition, but the
30:10
Speaker 2: local guys as well. I mean TJ. I'm gonna have
30:13
Speaker 2: to talk to TJ about it. TJ Meadows, our guy
30:15
Speaker 2: here is a he's a smoker kind of guy as well.
30:19
Speaker 2: But everything's gonna get underway Saturday afternoon with the music
30:21
Speaker 2: and everything down to Slack Plaza, and it's a great
30:24
Speaker 2: fundraiser for the Bomberdett Center. So if you get an
30:26
Speaker 2: opportunity to go down and check out Charlie West, we
30:30
Speaker 2: are efforting West Virginia Secretary of State Chris Warner. I
30:33
Speaker 2: think he's going to be coming up here a moment, gentle.
30:34
Speaker 2: I'm men knock out a couple of texts for you
30:37
Speaker 2: between now and then. Let me see here, Tex says Dave.
30:43
Speaker 2: We need all independent voters to get out and vote.
30:46
Speaker 2: I want to get Democrats on the ballot. We need
30:48
Speaker 2: change in a bad way, says a text and his primier.
30:52
Speaker 2: Election day in West Virginia. Poll's open until seven thirty nights.
30:55
Speaker 2: We begin our election conference at seven oh six this
30:57
Speaker 2: evening here to talk about election day over all. West
31:00
Speaker 2: Virginia Secretary of State Chris Warner, Good morning, Sarah, Welcome
31:03
Speaker 2: to the show.
31:05
Speaker 6: David. It's great to be with you this morning.
31:07
Speaker 2: All right. Polls open at six thirty this morning, will
31:10
Speaker 2: remain open till seven thirty this cevening. I did my
31:12
Speaker 2: early voting this past Saturday. But when I drove by
31:15
Speaker 2: my polling place, which was about six fifteen or six
31:18
Speaker 2: twenty this morning, I just kind of looked over at
31:21
Speaker 2: the elementary school there, which is the polling location for
31:24
Speaker 2: my neighborhood, looked like everybody was getting everything set up
31:28
Speaker 2: and ready to go. I said this before about being
31:30
Speaker 2: a poll worker. It's a long day, but it's it's
31:34
Speaker 2: very rewarding.
31:36
Speaker 6: I think we would find all eight thousand, four hundred
31:41
Speaker 6: and twenty poll workers across the state have a similar
31:44
Speaker 6: story of how rewarding it is to be able to
31:47
Speaker 6: put in that long day and then you know, reap
31:51
Speaker 6: the benefits of being a part of the system. I
31:54
Speaker 6: know my Canall County or there at the Knall City
31:58
Speaker 6: Elementary School. Every day thing was running smoothly this morning.
32:02
Speaker 6: We have not had any complaints from those poll workers.
32:07
Speaker 6: But we've got two hundred and sixty five people out
32:09
Speaker 6: across the state, counting the two hundred and fifty liaison
32:15
Speaker 6: from the Fusion Center as well as our own election
32:18
Speaker 6: division staff that you're you're well aware of.
32:21
Speaker 1: I think think you're going good, Secretary.
32:23
Speaker 2: I think sometimes people don't realize that the work that
32:29
Speaker 2: goes into this election, any election from the poll workers
32:32
Speaker 2: involved not just the time and everything, but the training
32:35
Speaker 2: that goes into it. And the folks, as you said,
32:39
Speaker 2: from the office that are out and I mean folks
32:42
Speaker 2: probably hit the road to get to their destinations. I'm
32:44
Speaker 2: talking about the folks in your office to go I've
32:46
Speaker 2: probably hit the road at four point thirty five o'clock
32:48
Speaker 2: this morning to go to all fifty five counties and
32:52
Speaker 2: to look for problems or maybe there are no problems,
32:54
Speaker 2: just to go in and say thank you to the
32:56
Speaker 2: poll workers.
32:58
Speaker 6: That's exactly what we've been doing on But know that
33:01
Speaker 6: that all started back in August of last year at
33:04
Speaker 6: Canaane Valley when we had fifty two or fifty five
33:06
Speaker 6: county clerks, and all fifty five county clerks offices had
33:11
Speaker 6: staff there for the training, and then those county clerks
33:14
Speaker 6: were able to take those tools back and conduct their
33:18
Speaker 6: individual training. So we have the best trained poll workers
33:22
Speaker 6: in the country. Our fifty five county clerks do a
33:26
Speaker 6: tremendous job. And you know, now it's time for the
33:30
Speaker 6: citizens to speak. We've all heard from all the candidates.
33:34
Speaker 6: Now it's time for all of us to get out
33:36
Speaker 6: and vote that haven't voted. And again we thank our
33:39
Speaker 6: poll workers for all that they do.
33:41
Speaker 2: I think a couple of those poll workers are actually
33:43
Speaker 2: going to join Wilson Meadows on talk line coming up
33:46
Speaker 2: next hour. Had there been any issues? I mean, I
33:49
Speaker 2: know you said where you are that didn't send any issues.
33:50
Speaker 2: But are you hearing anything out there from any of
33:52
Speaker 2: the other fifty four counties around the state of West Virginia.
33:56
Speaker 6: No, I'm in Cable County right now, was in County earlier.
34:00
Speaker 6: We're going to hit Putnam County and other counties on
34:03
Speaker 6: the way back. So we have not heard anything this
34:09
Speaker 6: morning of any complaints. Again, lots of phone calls already
34:13
Speaker 6: occur in this morning, just to check in and make
34:16
Speaker 6: sure everything's running the way that it should. And right
34:19
Speaker 6: now we're fortunate not to have any complaints as of yet.
34:24
Speaker 2: Talking again with Wes Virginia Secretary of State Chris Warner,
34:27
Speaker 2: the numbers secretaries say that early voting actually went up
34:31
Speaker 2: a bit compared to twenty twenty two, which was the
34:33
Speaker 2: last non presidential election we had. Why do you think
34:35
Speaker 2: the numbers went up?
34:38
Speaker 6: You know, it starts with the confidence in the election
34:42
Speaker 6: and the processes that take place. Our fifty five county
34:46
Speaker 6: clerks again are tremendous. Working with our Election division staff
34:52
Speaker 6: would be number one, you know, I'd say next, I
34:56
Speaker 6: mean to point out that, you know, there was concern
34:58
Speaker 6: about the photo I D law that took effect in
35:03
Speaker 6: this election, and the close for Republican primary, but neither
35:07
Speaker 6: one of those things hurt voter turnout at all. In fact,
35:11
Speaker 6: it may have increased, you know, the confidence, and we
35:15
Speaker 6: see an eight percent increase during early voting. Hopefully that
35:18
Speaker 6: carries forward to today, a beautiful day, no reason not
35:23
Speaker 6: to get out and vote.
35:25
Speaker 2: Well, we're certainly hoping. Jeff Jenkins brought this up yesterday
35:28
Speaker 2: we're hoping that the nice weather doesn't keep people away
35:30
Speaker 2: from the pole secretary because of the kids are home
35:32
Speaker 2: from school and they get the day off, they may say, well,
35:35
Speaker 2: you know what, let's go, let's go to the park
35:37
Speaker 2: or something like it. But you got plenty of time. Again,
35:38
Speaker 2: polls open at six point thirty. They closed at seven
35:40
Speaker 2: thirty tonight, and that issue on the closed primary, you
35:45
Speaker 2: know a lot of people question that. And again just
35:48
Speaker 2: in case, you know, there'll be some people to show
35:50
Speaker 2: up to the polls today. If you are a registered
35:52
Speaker 2: independent in West Virginia, in the past, you've been able
35:54
Speaker 2: to go in and say I'm a regiment independent, but
35:56
Speaker 2: I want a Republican ballot. The Republican Executive Committee years
36:00
Speaker 2: ago made the decision to close the primary. So as
36:03
Speaker 2: an independent, you can go in, you can vote nonpartisan,
36:06
Speaker 2: you know, your school boards and things like that, your
36:09
Speaker 2: judicial races, but you can also request a Democrat ballot
36:13
Speaker 2: if you would want to do that, but you can't
36:14
Speaker 2: request a Republican ballot. And so we've I think done
36:18
Speaker 2: our part here. Your office and the county clerks have
36:20
Speaker 2: also done their due diligence and trying to get that
36:23
Speaker 2: information out there, but people just need to know that
36:25
Speaker 2: before they go to the polling place today.
36:28
Speaker 6: You're exactly correct. The one other thing I wanted to mention,
36:31
Speaker 6: Dave On when you ask about the increased turnout. We've
36:35
Speaker 6: registered over fifty thousand new voters since I've took office,
36:40
Speaker 6: and we've registered over seventeen thousand high school seniors. So
36:45
Speaker 6: the staff has been out into the public schools and
36:49
Speaker 6: private schools to register new voters. I think I've been
36:54
Speaker 6: to thirty eight high schools. The staff under the leadership
36:58
Speaker 6: of Jared Summers has been fifty seven high schools this year. So,
37:03
Speaker 6: you know, it's great to see the increased number of
37:06
Speaker 6: voters registering to vote, and it looks like that may
37:10
Speaker 6: have shown up in the early voting vote numbers.
37:13
Speaker 3: Yeah.
37:13
Speaker 2: I saw a report on thirteen News yesterday evening that
37:18
Speaker 2: I think right down the street from US, Charleston Catholic
37:20
Speaker 2: High School was one of those schools that won the
37:22
Speaker 2: Jennings Randolph Ward. It's good stuff.
37:25
Speaker 6: Yeah, they registered more than eighty five percent of their class.
37:29
Speaker 6: Got to share some time with a delegate Mike Pushkin
37:32
Speaker 6: there at Charleston Catholic yesterday to make the Award for
37:36
Speaker 6: the Jennings Randoff Award.
37:39
Speaker 2: And you mentioned the voter ID that is now law.
37:42
Speaker 2: You have to have a photo ID when you go
37:43
Speaker 2: in to vote, and you're here you're saying it has
37:45
Speaker 2: not been any problem with that, because here's what I
37:47
Speaker 2: have noticed, a lot of people actually like having to
37:51
Speaker 2: do that. It gives them a little further sense of security. Really,
37:54
Speaker 2: my wife and I really voted Saturday in Putnam County
37:57
Speaker 2: and I just saw people just get out of their
37:58
Speaker 2: cars and walking in with their with their they didn't
38:01
Speaker 2: take their if the lady who didn't take their purse
38:03
Speaker 2: or whatever in they had their had the driver's license
38:05
Speaker 2: or whatever form of photo ID. Because there's others besides
38:07
Speaker 2: driver's license in their hand and ready to go vote.
38:11
Speaker 6: Yeah, we found the last week, I think I visited
38:13
Speaker 6: eight or nine counties and many of the pool workers
38:17
Speaker 6: there said, hey, we get you know, a photo ID
38:20
Speaker 6: offered in the form of a driver's license, and had
38:23
Speaker 6: been doing that for you know, a couple of elections.
38:25
Speaker 6: It's good now to know that it's uniform across the state.
38:29
Speaker 6: So uh yeah, it increases confidence that only those that
38:34
Speaker 6: uh you know match with their driver's license. Or photo
38:38
Speaker 6: ID are going to be able to vote?
38:42
Speaker 2: I saw this question, and I know you're busy, and
38:45
Speaker 2: we'll let you go. But but I saw this question
38:47
Speaker 2: posted on a social media site earlier.
38:50
Speaker 15: Uh.
38:50
Speaker 2: It was a lady that said that she had gotten
38:54
Speaker 2: married and that her photo I have the name that's
38:57
Speaker 2: on her driver's license, Uh, is not the same as
39:01
Speaker 2: would be in the poll books, the the you know
39:03
Speaker 2: when the when they go check you off, and she
39:05
Speaker 2: was she was asking this of someone, what how does
39:08
Speaker 2: that impact her?
39:11
Speaker 6: Well, first of all, it's really easy, uh, from to
39:15
Speaker 6: go to go vote w b uh dot com and
39:19
Speaker 6: the switcher name if you've been married since the last election.
39:26
Speaker 6: But we still ask them to show up, show the
39:29
Speaker 6: I d uh and if at all else sales, they
39:33
Speaker 6: would vote a provisional ballot Dave.
39:35
Speaker 2: Yeah, because and by law, no one can be turned away,
39:38
Speaker 2: no one can be refused to right to vote.
39:40
Speaker 6: That's right, absolutely correct.
39:43
Speaker 2: So dare you say, Chris Warner, I know you're going
39:44
Speaker 2: to rejoin us, I think later today on Metro News
39:46
Speaker 2: Midday and you said things have been running smooth so far.
39:49
Speaker 2: You've been in Kanawha and Cable and Putnam County. So
39:51
Speaker 2: We hope that wherever you are when we talked to
39:53
Speaker 2: you in three or four hours, that you'll have uh,
39:56
Speaker 2: you'll have similar good news stories for us with no issues.
40:00
Speaker 6: We look forward to the update. Thanks again, Dave.

Speaker 2: If you're registered, you should be allowed to vote any candidate,
45:36
Speaker 2: Republican or Democrat or independent.
45:39
Speaker 11: You know.
45:39
Speaker 2: I was one that said I thought it was going
45:41
Speaker 2: to be a mistake for the Republican Party to close
45:43
Speaker 2: their primary. And I may be wrong. I may be
45:45
Speaker 2: wrong about that, but there is also something And again,
45:50
Speaker 2: I am a former Republican who switched to independent. I
45:53
Speaker 2: did not switch back just to vote, and I did
45:55
Speaker 2: not request a Democrat ballot. I just voted nonpartisan when
45:58
Speaker 2: I voted this past Saturday. There is something to be said, though,
46:01
Speaker 2: to play Devil's advocate for there is a reason why
46:04
Speaker 2: you have a primary and you have a general, and
46:06
Speaker 2: think of it. In the world of sports, you got
46:08
Speaker 2: to go through the first round to get to the
46:10
Speaker 2: second round. I mean, I understand the argument, I really
46:14
Speaker 2: really do, Tex says Dave. Republicans are a bunch of
46:21
Speaker 2: control freaks. For party that prides itself on small government,
46:24
Speaker 2: they sure do love telling people what to do. Well,
46:28
Speaker 2: You've heard me say in the past that the Republican
46:32
Speaker 2: Party of today many in many ways, not all, but
46:37
Speaker 2: in many ways, does it bear a lot of resemblance
46:40
Speaker 2: to the small government Republicans that I idolize growing up, Thank
46:47
Speaker 2: Ronald Reagan for example. It's not the same, folks, It's
46:52
Speaker 2: simply not saying. It's better not say it's not the same.
46:56
Speaker 2: Coming up later today Metro News Midday powered by salangeld
46:58
Speaker 2: Authirty News and Tonight Live anchor Manda Baron and me
47:01
Speaker 2: more election coverage The Goat I'd be Kerchible's going to
47:04
Speaker 2: stop by the show today. Secretary of State Chris Warner
47:07
Speaker 2: will make a return appearance on the show. The State
47:10
Speaker 2: Democrat and Republican party chairs got them both on the
47:13
Speaker 2: show today in Josh Holsteen, Republican Party chair and State
47:17
Speaker 2: Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin. They'll both join me on
47:20
Speaker 2: the show today. Former Senate President Craig Blair is on
47:24
Speaker 2: the show today. Jason Piztela from the Contractors Association. There
47:28
Speaker 2: has been a lot of talk about suspending the gas tax,
47:31
Speaker 2: the federal and the state gas tax, and I know
47:34
Speaker 2: President Trump during an interview session yesterday said he would
47:38
Speaker 2: be open to looking into that. There have been several
47:40
Speaker 2: people that have asked our governor and our legislative body
47:45
Speaker 2: to take a look at that. Here the Contractors Association
47:48
Speaker 2: know are just saying, hold on a second, that's a
47:50
Speaker 2: lot of money. That's a lot of money that we
47:53
Speaker 2: are going to lose that would go toward road projects,
47:55
Speaker 2: and we all want a roads fix. So we'll talk
47:56
Speaker 2: to Jason Pizztela about that and more. Of course, Open
47:59
Speaker 2: Line Western Metro New's Midday with thirteen News and tonight
48:02
Speaker 2: Live anchor Amanda Baron and me coming up at noon today.
48:05
Speaker 2: By the way, I want to get this out there.
48:07
Speaker 2: Today is Amanda Baron's birthday, So happy birthday. I'm not
48:12
Speaker 2: going to tell you how old she is. She'll probably
48:14
Speaker 2: tell you, but her answer will be I'm a heck
48:17
Speaker 2: of a lot younger than you, meaning me, So happy birthday.
48:22
Speaker 2: Ab on this show tomorrow, of course, We're going to
48:28
Speaker 2: have more on the election, a little post election roundtable.
48:30
Speaker 2: Brad mcwhanny, a million Iicley and Stephen Allen Adams is
48:33
Speaker 2: they've done in the past, We're going to join me
48:35
Speaker 2: to kind of break down the election coming up on
48:38
Speaker 2: tomorrow's show. Tex says, for the love of Pete's I'm
48:43
Speaker 2: a fifty two year old woman, Someone please tell me
48:46
Speaker 2: what rights I've had taken from me. One right that
48:50
Speaker 2: has been taken was actually taken by the extreme leftist Democrats,
48:53
Speaker 2: and that's letting a boy who claims he's a girl
48:56
Speaker 2: in a girls' sports because he can't cut it against
48:58
Speaker 2: other boys. So there you go. Enough with this stuff,
49:02
Speaker 2: says hey, text, mister Meadows has joined us today. You
49:08
Speaker 2: know there there's an election today. Yeah. I'm not sure
49:12
Speaker 2: whether you knew about that or not.
49:13
Speaker 19: I had heard something about it, and I went by
49:15
Speaker 19: the elementary school this morning and there was like vote here,
49:19
Speaker 19: So I heard a little something about it.
49:21
Speaker 2: Now you said that you voted on Saturday. I did,
49:25
Speaker 2: as did I What timeframe did you vote? I'm to
49:27
Speaker 2: see how close we were are? We cho one thirty? Okay?
49:30
Speaker 2: I was there about eleven Third Valley Park, Valley Park
49:33
Speaker 2: in Putnam count anybody waiting ahead of you, and we
49:35
Speaker 2: got there when you when you were maybe one person.
49:37
Speaker 2: They had a couple ahead of us.
49:39
Speaker 19: A couple had efficient, quick easy, you know, handed over
49:43
Speaker 19: my license. Oh my goodness, I had to hand over
49:46
Speaker 19: my license.
49:48
Speaker 2: Terrible, So peez. Anyway, what do you think about today? Man?
49:54
Speaker 19: I think it is going to be a defining moment
49:57
Speaker 19: in that we are seeing all this legislative ten between
50:01
Speaker 19: the governor and the legislature spill over into the voting
50:03
Speaker 19: booth and we'll see what happens with it. You know,
50:07
Speaker 19: I've been tracking who Morrissey endorsed, who Capito endorsed, and
50:12
Speaker 19: then I think that's definitely a narrative tonight. Although I'm
50:14
Speaker 19: not going to give the governor credit for people he
50:16
Speaker 19: endorsed that have no opponent.
50:17
Speaker 2: I mean, what's the point.
50:18
Speaker 4: M hm uh.
50:19
Speaker 2: So we'll see who wins.
50:20
Speaker 19: I think, Look, if you're if you're Morrissey, I think
50:23
Speaker 19: you gotta win the deed's coma race because he's heavily
50:27
Speaker 19: invested in that one.
50:28
Speaker 2: So if you don't win that one, that's a loss.
50:29
Speaker 2: Is that the one that he's most invested in I
50:31
Speaker 2: think I think that the one with Vernon Chris.
50:34
Speaker 19: Uh No, I mean the money money wise, the most
50:37
Speaker 19: invested is the Takubo race Cuba prize money wise, but
50:43
Speaker 19: personal investment. I think it's the Deed's Coma race. You know,
50:48
Speaker 19: there was one other senator besides Rupy Phillips, sponsored the
50:52
Speaker 19: bill resolution to say you have to be born in
50:54
Speaker 19: the state of West Virginia be governor. Wan'll take a
50:56
Speaker 19: guess who it wants.
50:56
Speaker 2: Oh, I wonder Vince de Vinceteed's yeah, so you got
51:01
Speaker 2: it gets personal now, Oh, it's been personal. It's been personal.
51:05
Speaker 2: It's been personal.
51:06
Speaker 6: Uh.
51:07
Speaker 19: Look, he doesn't like Vernon Chris either. So that's a
51:08
Speaker 19: big race, right. His packs are heavily involved in that one.
51:11
Speaker 19: So watch that race, uh, the Hecker race, watch that
51:15
Speaker 19: one in the house.
51:16
Speaker 6: Uh.
51:17
Speaker 19: I think those are the big ones that that really matter.
51:22
Speaker 19: And we'll determine based on which way they go. Seeither
51:25
Speaker 19: a good night for him or a bad night.
51:26
Speaker 2: For all Right, and you're on the air tonight, you're
51:28
Speaker 2: in Charleston tonight on the Metro News television app and
51:32
Speaker 2: telling them and the radio and all the all the
51:34
Speaker 2: episode they tell me, so they tell you all right.
51:37
Speaker 2: Converce starts tonight at seven o six and again uh
51:40
Speaker 2: we'll be handling the local races as well as the
51:42
Speaker 2: Network Racist crew and Morgantown crew here. All we need
51:45
Speaker 2: is you.
51:46
Speaker 19: Ozzy Osbourne, investor Goodman of the of the their vocal band.
51:50
Speaker 4: I want to see that one.
51:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, sure you did, quick text says, Can I just
51:55
Speaker 2: say kudos to miss Vera McCormick. The lady is always
51:57
Speaker 2: so prepared in such a class act and her staff.
