- 0:39Speaker 3: It feels like matters are changing by the minute across
- 0:42Speaker 3: the NHL. No matter where this goes, we're here to
- 0:45Speaker 3: talk about this. So glad you're hanging out again. I'm
- 0:48Speaker 3: Mike Benton. Ian Forness to my right, the Mayor of
- 0:51Speaker 3: Maple Valley Ever fits you, Al Koniski. To our left
- 0:54Speaker 3: are Esteemed Broadcast Booth crew all across the Global Credit
- 0:59Speaker 3: Union Kraken Audio Network. The krackt have the seventh overall
- 1:02Speaker 3: pick as of now, who do they pick? Will that
- 1:06Speaker 3: pick get traded. We will see, we will discuss. We
- 1:10Speaker 3: have a lot to get to here on this show
- 1:12Speaker 3: for the next four hours. We'll also talk about trade
- 1:14Speaker 3: potentials this chaotic last week as well with the Krack
- 1:18Speaker 3: and by the way, out of all of this so
- 1:19Speaker 3: far have picked up Mackie Samuskevitch also re signed Bobby mcmahmba.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Also more guests here to come on and talk about this,
- 1:26Speaker 3: including GM Jason botterrolling about roughly twenty minutes or so.
- 1:32Speaker 3: Also Jason Gregor from up North, also part of the
- 1:34Speaker 3: daily face off key flaming of the Pipeline Show. We
- 1:36Speaker 3: react to his comments. John Forsland TV play by play
- 1:40Speaker 3: voice joining us later on here for this evening in
- 1:42Speaker 3: reaction to what's been going down all day. Plus we
- 1:45Speaker 3: are also expecting Jacobrian one year after he was drafted.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Where is his game at? Where is he at as
- 1:53Speaker 3: well heading into this summer. But without further ado, I
- 1:56Speaker 3: welcome in the crew once again, fellas it has been way, way,
- 2:00Speaker 3: way too long, and it feels like life is shifting
- 2:03Speaker 3: underneath our feet with this draft and with this team
- 2:05Speaker 3: and with this league. In about roughly eighty nine miles
- 2:08Speaker 3: an hour, how are you.
- 2:09Speaker 4: I miss you guys.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Man, I hate long offseasons. Don't tell my wife I said.
- 2:13Speaker 2: That second, Yeah, right, exactly.
- 2:16Speaker 5: No, I mean it's been a crazy week. We've had
- 2:19Speaker 5: twenty five trades since June first, including eighteen in the
- 2:24Speaker 5: last six days. I mean Brady Kachuk, Samuel Arson's been
- 2:28Speaker 5: traded twice, Vilary Nichushkin, Alex Tuck, Bowen Byram Cayu Colton, My,
- 2:33Speaker 5: So many guys have been traded around the league. And
- 2:36Speaker 5: I mean, I don't think we're done. I think there's
- 2:38Speaker 5: been a lot of guys moving wanting to move. You
- 2:43Speaker 5: can talk about the collusion for the Team USA locker
- 2:46Speaker 5: room that was the last couple of weeks as well.
- 2:49Speaker 5: But I mean it's been a fun time. This has
- 2:51Speaker 5: been I've not seen this many trades, at least in
- 2:53Speaker 5: mine now six years in the NHL, I've not seen
- 2:55Speaker 5: this many trades at a deadline, let alone going into
- 2:58Speaker 5: a draft. So I loves all three of you know that.
- 3:01Speaker 5: I love some chaos, and it has been a very
- 3:04Speaker 5: chaotic week and I'm hoping the chaos continues today.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Well, I've missed you guys as well. I've missed doing
- 3:10Speaker 4: this so glad to be back here at the table
- 3:12Speaker 4: talking about this epic day. Fits you mentioned the trades
- 3:15Speaker 4: that have happened. There are also some names that are
- 3:17Speaker 4: out there still. Dylan Larkins, Neams out there, Jason Robertson,
- 3:21Speaker 4: you've heard a lot about him, Zach Warinsky, Connor Helibuk.
- 3:24Speaker 4: There could still be some moves prior to the start
- 3:26Speaker 4: of this draft, and I don't think the excitement's over.
- 3:30Speaker 5: Well.
- 3:30Speaker 6: First of all, I want to say thanks for letting
- 3:32Speaker 6: in in the little club here, because the guy from
- 3:34Speaker 6: the KHN just slides over into the radio side. I
- 3:37Speaker 6: lucky to be with you guys. You do such a
- 3:39Speaker 6: hell of a great job all the time, and we
- 3:41Speaker 6: had fun last year the draft for sure. But thanks
- 3:43Speaker 6: for welcoming letting me hang out with you guys for
- 3:45Speaker 6: a few hours tonight.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Captain can't wait for about priorbly two hours here. So
- 3:50Speaker 3: you have the seat that that's on the edge right now.
- 3:53Speaker 3: You're free to leave here in case you have to.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Good Thank you as old as to I won't be
- 3:57Speaker 3: a bend. That's good to know I can leave it anytime.
- 3:59Speaker 3: These guys had that same place we did, not I
- 4:01Speaker 3: trapped out Actually it was just I trapped around my foot.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I don't know why that's there. See see see fits
- 4:07Speaker 3: can't leave here because if he's got about probably eighty
- 4:10Speaker 3: people around him say, hey, where where are you going?
- 4:12Speaker 2: You you've got the door over here. Well, no, that's
- 4:14Speaker 2: easy for you.
- 4:15Speaker 6: I was reading the draft release the crack and sent
- 4:18Speaker 6: out earlier today and it does say h mc it
- 4:21Speaker 6: fits you here at the thirty two bar and grill later.
- 4:23Speaker 6: So yeah, he can't go anywhere. He's actually got some ready,
- 4:27Speaker 6: We're gonna have some.
- 4:28Speaker 3: So you did have a show choir background here I was.
- 4:31Speaker 3: I said one of those things, we will hear you
- 4:33Speaker 3: crank out show tooes.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I cannot wait for.
- 4:35Speaker 5: The musical theater kid. When I was in high school,
- 4:37Speaker 5: I was in choir as well, had a couple of
- 4:40Speaker 5: extracurricular vocal ensembles.
- 4:42Speaker 2: I was a part of his life sings the song.
- 4:43Speaker 4: Ever, Oh we have Not in Common. Yeah, we were
- 4:46Speaker 4: both in the choir just right. One of us was
- 4:48Speaker 4: good and it wasn't me.
- 4:50Speaker 2: My sister was in show acchoir.
- 4:52Speaker 3: The my one of my best friends best man in
- 4:54Speaker 3: my wedding was in show choir. I was recruited but
- 4:56Speaker 3: I said, all I can do is play the radio,
- 4:58Speaker 3: don't even ask. I want to get to before we
- 5:01Speaker 3: get into the meat of this draft here the big
- 5:02Speaker 3: story of this obviously locally, and it really hit us
- 5:06Speaker 3: heart at about six pm last night where the cracking go.
- 5:09Speaker 3: Because this audit is done, we processed it, and quite frankly,
- 5:12Speaker 3: the reaction has been mixed. And but yet, no matter
- 5:15Speaker 3: what I think, it's pretty apparent that this city cares
- 5:18Speaker 3: about this team, it cares about hockey, and the passion
- 5:21Speaker 3: certainly is underneath all of that. But yet at six
- 5:24Speaker 3: pm last night, it was an absolute sound the alarm
- 5:28Speaker 3: level type of news reports, multiple of them saying Jason
- 5:32Speaker 3: Robertson turned down a trade offer here to Seattle, which
- 5:35Speaker 3: the Kraken would have turned in from an RFA into
- 5:38Speaker 3: a fifteen million dollar year man per year. So everyone's
- 5:43Speaker 3: got their thoughts on this here, but deep dive wise
- 5:45Speaker 3: with Robertson, we'll talk more about this on a deeper
- 5:48Speaker 3: scale at about three forty five. The fact that this
- 5:51Speaker 3: report openly brought the cracking into it to me two
- 5:54Speaker 3: things here to address. Number one, where are the cracking
- 5:57Speaker 3: at right now with the best position to win and
- 6:00Speaker 3: number two, should they lean into the draft. Now, big
- 6:02Speaker 3: timers still take the big swings here today, Well.
- 6:05Speaker 6: They took a swing, and they took a swing with
- 6:07Speaker 6: paneren as well the trade deadline. So you know, when
- 6:10Speaker 6: you hear them say, you know, we're gonna be aggressive
- 6:13Speaker 6: and we're gonna do what we can and we're gonna
- 6:15Speaker 6: go after guys, they have done that. The reality is
- 6:18Speaker 6: this league is one in which players, more than any
- 6:22Speaker 6: of the other three major sports leagues, have an ability
- 6:24Speaker 6: to dictate where they go. Now in the case of
- 6:27Speaker 6: Robertson and RFA, that exists in every league if you
- 6:29Speaker 6: could do a sign in trade. But the Panerian thing
- 6:32Speaker 6: was also kind of underlying too. You have as a
- 6:34Speaker 6: player that type of power. And we all are seeing
- 6:37Speaker 6: what's going on in the National Hockey League right now.
- 6:39Speaker 6: There's a handful of destinations and there are a combination
- 6:42Speaker 6: of teams that are winning right now today, playoff contending teams,
- 6:46Speaker 6: Stanley Cup contending teams, and a lot of them have
- 6:48Speaker 6: palm trees or North Stateian attacks are all the above,
- 6:50Speaker 6: and I just think it's we'll get into it. I
- 6:53Speaker 6: know what a three forty five because I got a
- 6:54Speaker 6: lot more to say. Frankly, I think there's a lot
- 6:57Speaker 6: of irresponsibility out there from national media members and I
- 7:01Speaker 6: think Seattle is a really where the Caitlin Clark of
- 7:05Speaker 6: the NHL is what's happened, like like, instead of embracing
- 7:08Speaker 6: Media Market twelve, were like, let's do whatever we can
- 7:12Speaker 6: to slam Media Market twelve. Right, this league needs Seattle,
- 7:15Speaker 6: they need Seattle, and frankly, they need Seattle more than
- 7:17Speaker 6: Seattle needs the NHL, and it needs to stop. But
- 7:21Speaker 6: that's that's my thoughts initially.
- 7:22Speaker 2: Got more later.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I think we'll get into it more later, but
- 7:26Speaker 4: lots of commentary about maybe why Jason Robinson turned down Seattle,
- 7:31Speaker 4: and you know there were there we speculation rumors if
- 7:34Speaker 4: you will, about why Peren turned down down Seattle. I
- 7:37Speaker 4: think there are different reasons again based on that speculation.
- 7:39Speaker 4: But yeah, looking forward to talking more about that.
- 7:41Speaker 5: Yeah. I think for me looking at at this, all
- 7:46Speaker 5: of the at least and in terms of a player procurement,
- 7:49Speaker 5: a big swing environment, all of the knocks that I
- 7:53Speaker 5: think people had on Jason vottral for me, those all
- 7:57Speaker 5: in a way these last twenty four hours because you've
- 8:00Speaker 5: now shown the NHL on two separate occasions. You're willing
- 8:04Speaker 5: to throw out fourteen plus twelve and a half plus
- 8:07Speaker 5: for an aging NHL VET. You were gonna make fifteen
- 8:11Speaker 5: million dollars for Jason Robertson, which would have made him
- 8:14Speaker 5: the second highest paid player in the NHL behind Coroll Caprizov.
- 8:18Speaker 5: And you can talk about the ten percent millionaires tax
- 8:21Speaker 5: if you want to. Great take away ten percent of
- 8:23Speaker 5: fifteen you're a thirteen point four now you're the fifth
- 8:26Speaker 5: highest paid player in the NHL. So don't come to
- 8:28Speaker 5: me with, oh, he's losing a lot of money ten
- 8:30Speaker 5: percent of fifteen million dollars. Don't care about that, right,
- 8:33Speaker 5: You're still fine. So for me, I think that Jason
- 8:37Speaker 5: Bostrel has now shown this fan base, they've shown this market,
- 8:41Speaker 5: they've shown the league we are willing to spend the money.
- 8:44Speaker 5: You can say what you want about Seattle from from
- 8:47Speaker 5: a perspective of no one wants to be here, whatever
- 8:50Speaker 5: the case may be. This team is willing to put
- 8:53Speaker 5: their money literally where their mouth is and improve this team.
- 8:56Speaker 5: So I feel like Jason Bostrell and my mind has
- 9:01Speaker 5: no reason to hang his head, to shake his head,
- 9:04Speaker 5: to punch the air. He took the sling, he missed.
- 9:07Speaker 5: That's fine, and he's showing that he's able and willing.
- 9:09Speaker 4: To do that. He did what he could do.
- 9:12Speaker 6: That's a great point, I think because the question going
- 9:14Speaker 6: into this offseason. Listen, we all know, the four of
- 9:17Speaker 6: us know, and I think it was finally articulated at
- 9:20Speaker 6: the end of the year, not during the year that
- 9:22Speaker 6: Bots was kind of in charge last year, but there
- 9:25Speaker 6: was still Ron who hired him, was kind of his
- 9:27Speaker 6: mentor hanging around. The question would be after saying we're
- 9:30Speaker 6: going to be aggressive last season and it was kind
- 9:32Speaker 6: of a nothing burger offseason, would Bots go out there?
- 9:36Speaker 6: We saw what Pinerini did, We've seen with this situation
- 9:39Speaker 6: what he did. He's already got McMahon to come back.
- 9:41Speaker 6: I think we should.
- 9:42Speaker 2: You cannot gloss that over.
- 9:43Speaker 6: No, that's a huge deal to have Bobby McMahon not
- 9:46Speaker 6: go to July first. That does tell you the players
- 9:48Speaker 6: do want to be here. There are some good things
- 9:50Speaker 6: going on. But great point by you on Bots. I'll
- 9:53Speaker 6: take it one step further with the audit coming out
- 9:56Speaker 6: and fans questioning everything, and make no mistake, Samantha Halloway
- 10:00Speaker 6: and the ownership group, they'll do what it takes to
- 10:03Speaker 6: put a winning team on the ice. Now, it's easier
- 10:05Speaker 6: said than done, but the first step is the investment,
- 10:07Speaker 6: and they have no problem doing that.
- 10:08Speaker 5: And if you, as a fan, are frustrated, imagine how
- 10:11Speaker 5: the ownership feels. Imagine how the floats downstairs in the
- 10:15Speaker 5: war room field. But also too, everyone wants to focus
- 10:18Speaker 5: on the word aggressive. It's gonna be a prolific offseason.
- 10:21Speaker 5: It's gonna be an aggressive off season. Aggressive is the act, right, Like, yes,
- 10:26Speaker 5: the result maybe didn't go in your favor, but you
- 10:30Speaker 5: can still take the swing. That is an aggressive swing.
- 10:33Speaker 5: You've seen all the names from cracking players that have
- 10:36Speaker 5: been out there. We've heard Wright's name, we've heard McCann's name,
- 10:38Speaker 5: we've heard Duns, Dave, literally everybody who wear a cracking
- 10:42Speaker 5: sweater last year, I've heard their name in one way
- 10:44Speaker 5: or another come up in some type of deal. That's
- 10:47Speaker 5: aggressive to me. So just because you didn't land the
- 10:51Speaker 5: big fish, you're still going fishing, You're still in the boat,
- 10:54Speaker 5: you're still chuving the water, and that is perfectly fine
- 10:57Speaker 5: with me. So for for me, it's all already been
- 11:00Speaker 5: an aggressive offseason. Because you've shown that you were willing
- 11:05Speaker 5: to put the money where your mouth is and make
- 11:07Speaker 5: those moves. It's not it's not Jason's fault, it's not
- 11:11Speaker 5: Sam's fault. It's not anyone downstairs fault that Jason Robertson
- 11:15Speaker 5: did what that didn't want to play here, that Alexi
- 11:17Speaker 5: Laffernier said, I only want to go to Los Angeles
- 11:21Speaker 5: or I'm sorry to he only wanted to go to
- 11:24Speaker 5: Los That's not his fault, that's not that's not their fault.
- 11:26Speaker 5: So I'm okay with these swings. To me, that's aggressive already.
- 11:30Speaker 3: How many times have we heard season after season, Great,
- 11:32Speaker 3: you can hit the singles, the doubles as well, but
- 11:34Speaker 3: what about the home runs. Well, now you're taking Barry
- 11:36Speaker 3: Bonds esque swings, a hanging curveballs right now, and so
- 11:39Speaker 3: eventually you're hoping that something connects and look you go.
- 11:42Speaker 5: You go three for ten year Hall of Famer. Yeah,
- 11:44Speaker 5: you hit three hundred in Major League Baseball. You going
- 11:46Speaker 5: to Cooperstown right so right now.
- 11:48Speaker 2: Because it failed seven out of a ten times. Also,
- 11:50Speaker 2: you know.
- 11:51Speaker 5: Boss's bosses, oh for two, you get, you get four
- 11:54Speaker 5: to five at vats of game. As far as I'm concerned,
- 11:56Speaker 5: he's got three more swings left. You know, in this
- 11:59Speaker 5: game that is the pre August first, you know, when
- 12:03Speaker 5: the league kind of shuts down before the year starts.
- 12:05Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm glad you brought up Bobby McMahon too, because
- 12:08Speaker 4: let's not forget. One of the reasons he decided to
- 12:12Speaker 4: stay here had nothing to do with management, had nothing
- 12:14Speaker 4: to do with ownership, had nothing to do with the fans.
- 12:17Speaker 4: There was a stick handed to him, Yep, a stick
- 12:19Speaker 4: from the captain.
- 12:20Speaker 5: That story.
- 12:21Speaker 2: Yeah, and what did the stick say?
- 12:23Speaker 6: Here at the end of the year, guys kind of
- 12:25Speaker 6: get stuff signed, and McMahon asked Everly to sign a
- 12:28Speaker 6: stick for him, and he signed a stick and it
- 12:30Speaker 6: basically said great playing with you, hope you stick around,
- 12:33Speaker 6: want you here next year along those lines. And for
- 12:35Speaker 6: a guy growing up watching Ebbs play it man everything
- 12:38Speaker 6: and and Bobby McMahon is you know. He he sat
- 12:41Speaker 6: down with not just the media, but also we had
- 12:44Speaker 6: him on Kjar last a couple of days ago, and
- 12:46Speaker 6: I had a twenty two minute conversation with him, and
- 12:49Speaker 6: he reiterated over and over again. I think this was
- 12:51Speaker 6: important thing that he met and spent time with bots,
- 12:56Speaker 6: Samantha Halloway, which kind of jumped off the page at me.
- 12:58Speaker 6: That doesn't happen a lot with and with Lane Lambert
- 13:01Speaker 6: who had him at his house right after the scene
- 13:03Speaker 6: is over. He only came back here because he believed
- 13:06Speaker 6: in what they were doing moving ahead, and he's gonna
- 13:09Speaker 6: get paid anywhere, but he wanted he believed what they're
- 13:11Speaker 6: doing here.
- 13:12Speaker 3: And still yet, there's gonna be a lot of trade
- 13:14Speaker 3: activity out there, a lot of names available. So who
- 13:16Speaker 3: to the crack and pick up maybe even for a
- 13:18Speaker 3: daylight today, that is certainly a matter of question. But
- 13:21Speaker 3: do they hang on to the pick There could be
- 13:23Speaker 3: someone good at number seven, and we'll talk about that
- 13:25Speaker 3: if they do hang on to it and use it
- 13:27Speaker 3: and what it means for their direction. But also Jason
- 13:30Speaker 3: Bottle is gonna get down to that with us here
- 13:32Speaker 3: in just a bit. So my poll question on Twitter,
- 13:34Speaker 3: I put this out Benton Underscore Mike also Texas right
- 13:37Speaker 3: now four nine four five to one do the crack
- 13:39Speaker 3: and take big swings or lean into.
- 13:41Speaker 2: The draft more? What do you think?
- 13:44Speaker 3: Four nine four five one Ta Komodas's text line hit
- 13:47Speaker 3: us up right now. But our conversation with Jason Bottle,
- 13:51Speaker 3: the One and Only Crack and GM up next, and
- 13:53Speaker 3: our reaction right here on ninety three to three kJ RFM.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Now back to the NHL Draft Show with your host
- 14:12Speaker 1: Mike Benton, live from thirty two Bar and Grill, presented
- 14:16Speaker 1: by your home for the Kracking Sports Radio ninety three
- 14:19Speaker 1: point three kjr FM.
- 14:21Speaker 3: All right, joining us now on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline,
- 14:24Speaker 3: the one and Only and the Busy Jason botterol GM
- 14:28Speaker 3: of the Krack and joining us now on Draft show coverage. Jason,
- 14:31Speaker 3: first off, thank you very much here for doing this,
- 14:33Speaker 3: And they got to ask you, first off, what's your
- 14:35Speaker 3: advice to people who want to get into this line
- 14:38Speaker 3: of work and prepare mentally for what can be an
- 14:41Speaker 3: absolutely crazy time of year.
- 14:43Speaker 7: Well, no, it's certainly a fun time of the year,
- 14:45Speaker 7: but it's also very busy and stuff a lot of
- 14:47Speaker 7: things different sort of going on in multiple areas. Obviously
- 14:51Speaker 7: you're preparing for the draft, but have so much discussion
- 14:54Speaker 7: going on about roster changes and possible trades and preparing
- 14:57Speaker 7: for free agency. So it just reinforces the ability, like
- 15:02Speaker 7: the importance of your meetings in May trying to set
- 15:04Speaker 7: out all different scenarios, so you have things lined up
- 15:06Speaker 7: for this week.
- 15:07Speaker 3: I certainly appreciate your time here as things get organized
- 15:10Speaker 3: for what is going to be perhaps a big day
- 15:12Speaker 3: and a big few weeks here for the cracking and
- 15:15Speaker 3: his long term plan. But let's talk about this audit.
- 15:17Speaker 3: First off, it's all done now. Two months ago the
- 15:20Speaker 3: plan was laid down to define the course and then
- 15:24Speaker 3: to proceed. So first off, what do you believe the
- 15:27Speaker 3: organization accomplished with sports Ology getting them on board and
- 15:32Speaker 3: from what we hear keeping them around as well.
- 15:35Speaker 8: Well, I think just it's an opportunity.
- 15:37Speaker 7: You get so busy day to day, year to year,
- 15:39Speaker 7: looking at your team working as an organization, and I
- 15:43Speaker 7: think it was a great opportunity to reflect back on, hey,
- 15:46Speaker 7: what have we done over the five years, where we've
- 15:48Speaker 7: done things well, where tore the areas of improvement? And
- 15:51Speaker 7: I think that's the biggest takeaway is just in the
- 15:54Speaker 7: enjoyment that we've had and interact with Mike Ford, who
- 15:56Speaker 7: obviously overseas Sportsology, just his knowledge in this organization's knowledge
- 16:02Speaker 7: of different organ you know, different companies, different teams, whether
- 16:05Speaker 7: it's the NBA, Major League Baseball, football, Like it's great
- 16:10Speaker 7: and you can certainly get the ideas and suggestions that
- 16:12Speaker 7: they can pass on to us from a sort of
- 16:14Speaker 7: best in practices, areas that we're doing well, areas that
- 16:18Speaker 7: we can prove on and having them as a guidance here,
- 16:21Speaker 7: having them as consultants in our partnership moving forward here,
- 16:24Speaker 7: I think is going to make our organization that much stronger.
- 16:26Speaker 3: So after working with them, the most curious path by
- 16:29Speaker 3: many about this is what what direction do the crack
- 16:33Speaker 3: can ultimately go? And Todd Leiwickie said, we're not rebuilding,
- 16:37Speaker 3: but check back with us on this here. Where do
- 16:40Speaker 3: you feel the organization is that right now? Whether you
- 16:43Speaker 3: define direction as aggressively turning over the roster or completely
- 16:48Speaker 3: leaning into a youth movement, Oh, to me.
- 16:51Speaker 7: We're building our organization, you know, Like to you know,
- 16:53Speaker 7: I find rebuild as an interesting terminology to me, we're
- 16:57Speaker 7: building right And you know, we've talked about this quite
- 17:00Speaker 7: a bit over the over the years, like this is
- 17:02Speaker 7: not the NFL draft. It takes time for all these
- 17:04Speaker 7: players to get to the National Hockey League and that's
- 17:07Speaker 7: what's exciting about especially our four group that we have
- 17:09Speaker 7: moving forward here now like, we have a lot of
- 17:12Speaker 7: players either going to be on our team or close
- 17:14Speaker 7: to being on our team there, And yeah, it's great
- 17:18Speaker 7: to have a player like Matty Benier's step into our
- 17:20Speaker 7: roster right away pretty much in our first full year.
- 17:25Speaker 7: But so many of those players from our first draft
- 17:28Speaker 7: are now finally being able to make that contribution. You
- 17:31Speaker 7: saw it last year with Ryan Winterton and Jacob mallonson
- 17:33Speaker 7: join them there, and you know, you look at different
- 17:35Speaker 7: scenarios that we could possibly have, you know, leading into
- 17:40Speaker 7: game one. You know, there could be a situation where
- 17:42Speaker 7: we have six or seven forwards age twenty.
- 17:45Speaker 8: Three or below.
- 17:46Speaker 7: And that's what gets us excited here about just the speed,
- 17:49Speaker 7: the enthusiasm, the energy that you know, whether these players
- 17:52Speaker 7: are required through trades or through building, coming through our
- 17:55Speaker 7: own organization. That gets our group fired up and excited
- 17:58Speaker 7: about where we're going.
- 18:00Speaker 3: That leads us here to Sunday. And if I can
- 18:02Speaker 3: use a chronological order of this, the appetizer was the
- 18:06Speaker 3: Mackie Samuskavish trade, then the main course extending Bobby McMahon.
- 18:12Speaker 3: First off, on Bobby, when did you feel really good
- 18:15Speaker 3: about getting this deal to the finish line?
- 18:19Speaker 7: I don't think you're ever confident in getting it to
- 18:22Speaker 7: the finish line until you get the signature and stuff
- 18:24Speaker 7: on the contract. But no, we obviously saw what the
- 18:28Speaker 7: fans saw the fit for our team, the fit for
- 18:31Speaker 7: the style of play that we want to have. Bobby
- 18:33Speaker 7: came into our organization here and you know, brought his speed,
- 18:36Speaker 7: brought a shot, brought his energy, and I think it
- 18:38Speaker 7: worked out extremely well for our group. So you know,
- 18:41Speaker 7: coming out of the season, we certainly want one of
- 18:43Speaker 7: our priorities was to certainly get him resigned. I think
- 18:46Speaker 7: it was an organizational entire effort to sort of show
- 18:49Speaker 7: Bobby a little bit of the area, but also to
- 18:53Speaker 7: what we have coming in our organization where we see
- 18:55Speaker 7: the direction of the organization moving forward. And you know,
- 18:58Speaker 7: and as Bobby's talked about it, stuff too, him just
- 19:01Speaker 7: experiencing the Pacific Northwest a little bit after season two.
- 19:04Speaker 7: So I'm glad that he had all those experiences. I'm
- 19:08Speaker 7: glad we were able to get signed and that was
- 19:10Speaker 7: a big thing for us moving forward here and very
- 19:12Speaker 7: very excited about having him a part of our group
- 19:14Speaker 7: here for six years.
- 19:15Speaker 3: I want to get to Mackie Samuskevitch. He's known for speed,
- 19:18Speaker 3: quick twitch, type of play, great shot. Lane, Lambert said
- 19:22Speaker 3: on these air waves earlier, this team got faster after
- 19:25Speaker 3: Sunday with him. Granted this may involve Lane's corner here,
- 19:29Speaker 3: but when you get a guy like this, what kind
- 19:31Speaker 3: of fit and growth potential comes to mind when you
- 19:35Speaker 3: think of Mackie.
- 19:36Speaker 7: Well, I think it's he has a lot of the
- 19:38Speaker 7: same qualities that we just talked about Bobby there, right, speed,
- 19:41Speaker 7: that shot first mentality, you know, being able to get
- 19:45Speaker 7: in the fore chick and get to the net. And look,
- 19:48Speaker 7: he's coming from a great organization in Florida, he has
- 19:52Speaker 7: a Stanley Cup to his name, he knows how to
- 19:55Speaker 7: have success in the National League. We hope to have
- 19:57Speaker 7: a bigger role frohim here in Seattle and for him
- 19:59Speaker 7: to really take off. And then the fact that he
- 20:01Speaker 7: has a relationship with Matty Benier's both of them played
- 20:04Speaker 7: at University of Michigan, both the same age. You know,
- 20:07Speaker 7: I think there's just a lot of fits here with
- 20:09Speaker 7: MACKI that got us excited about wanting to make the
- 20:11Speaker 7: trade and bring him to our group.
- 20:12Speaker 3: What kind of timeline are you thinking as far as
- 20:14Speaker 3: a new contract, Well, I.
- 20:15Speaker 7: Think that's a look, we've talked about it. We have
- 20:18Speaker 7: a lot going on here right now. But his agent,
- 20:20Speaker 7: to be honest, is the Bartlett family. They are the
- 20:23Speaker 7: same ones that we just finished with Bobby McMahon and
- 20:26Speaker 7: also with Ryke Reverends. So we have a very good
- 20:28Speaker 7: relationship with with that agency, and you know whether we'll
- 20:32Speaker 7: certainly try to get talking here shortly once we started
- 20:35Speaker 7: get through free agency.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Jason Bottle joining us right now in the Beacon Plumbing
- 20:38Speaker 3: hotline and this week, how much has a level of
- 20:42Speaker 3: trade activity across this league really surprised you? And how
- 20:46Speaker 3: do you think that maybe kind of defines the trade
- 20:49Speaker 3: market all across I don't think.
- 20:52Speaker 8: It's surprised me at all.
- 20:53Speaker 7: I think we've all gone through our pro scouting meetings,
- 20:56Speaker 7: we've all been preparing for the free agency, and there's
- 20:59Speaker 7: just not the depth of a free agent class this year.
- 21:03Speaker 7: So there's a lot of d drive and a lot
- 21:06Speaker 7: of expectations for teams to improve their team. And you know,
- 21:11Speaker 7: they know that free agency can't be that method throughout
- 21:13Speaker 7: from for most teams this summer. So how do you
- 21:15Speaker 7: change your team? It's through through trades. So I think
- 21:18Speaker 7: you've seen it already. It's why we want to jump
- 21:20Speaker 7: out with the you know, not only resigning one of
- 21:22Speaker 7: our own free agencies and Bobby, but also going out
- 21:24Speaker 7: and get Mackie. I think there'll certainly be more activity
- 21:27Speaker 7: leading into the draft, but then I think you're going
- 21:31Speaker 7: to see things even more into July. Whereas you know,
- 21:34Speaker 7: you sort of talk about most of the trades happening,
- 21:37Speaker 7: you know, around draft time, and then get right into freegency.
- 21:41Speaker 7: I think, you know, because the class isn't that big
- 21:43Speaker 7: of a free agent, I think you're gonna see a
- 21:45Speaker 7: lot more trades throughout July two.
- 21:46Speaker 3: Earlier this week on these airwaves, you said the potential
- 21:49Speaker 3: of trading the seventh overall pick is in play if
- 21:52Speaker 3: you don't move it. How much do you consider a
- 21:56Speaker 3: pick like this as far as needing to be NHL
- 21:59Speaker 3: ready close to being NHL.
- 22:01Speaker 8: Ready, Well, I think, look, we're drafting eighteen year old kids.
- 22:05Speaker 7: It's there's always going to be a time frame and
- 22:08Speaker 7: for these but like we do put a lot of
- 22:10Speaker 7: value on the pick at seven. We're certainly in discussions
- 22:14Speaker 7: and different scenarios of possibly trading it, but we also
- 22:18Speaker 7: put a high value on the player that we're going
- 22:20Speaker 7: to get at number seven.
- 22:21Speaker 5: There.
- 22:21Speaker 7: You look at the crop this year, there's some very
- 22:23Speaker 7: talented forwards. I think this year especially, there's a lot
- 22:26Speaker 7: of very good sort of potential for top four defensemen.
- 22:31Speaker 7: So having those type options there. Look, realistically, most of
- 22:35Speaker 7: these players it's going to be probably two years or
- 22:37Speaker 7: so until they're not ready for national hockey, for the
- 22:40Speaker 7: National Hockey League.
- 22:41Speaker 8: But there's always exceptions to that for sure.
- 22:43Speaker 2: Players come and go.
- 22:45Speaker 3: Every ten year has a finished line where and when
- 22:48Speaker 3: that is for UFA's like Jamie Alexiak, Jayden Schwartz, Sally Tulvinen.
- 22:54Speaker 3: That's been a part of the conversation here in the
- 22:56Speaker 3: last couple of months. Where are you at with them
- 22:58Speaker 3: right now and as far as the open market is
- 23:00Speaker 3: concerned a few days away.
- 23:02Speaker 8: Well, look, we've certainly stayed in touch with with their
- 23:04Speaker 8: agents on different things.
- 23:06Speaker 7: They obviously all of those players bring an attribute to
- 23:10Speaker 7: a team that we certainly are very familiar with, you know.
- 23:13Speaker 7: That being said, we've talked about it at the end
- 23:15Speaker 7: of the season about having changed to our group here,
- 23:18Speaker 7: bringing in some of our younger players, but also surrounding
- 23:21Speaker 7: them with some veterans and stuff. There too, and I
- 23:22Speaker 7: think you saw that on Sunday making a trade. But
- 23:25Speaker 7: also you know, you know, getting Bobby resigned because we
- 23:28Speaker 7: think he's going to be a very good sort of
- 23:30Speaker 7: mentor for some of our our younger players too from
- 23:32Speaker 7: that standpoint, So you know, with the free agents we.
- 23:34Speaker 8: Have, we have a lot of respect for our players there.
- 23:38Speaker 7: Free agents will continue to have discussions and I think
- 23:41Speaker 7: you'll dictate a little bit what matializes from a trade
- 23:44Speaker 7: front and what also happens from a free agents front
- 23:47Speaker 7: come July one.
- 23:48Speaker 3: After the smoke kind of clayed here from the end
- 23:50Speaker 3: of the regular season. Bertley, Catt and Jacobrien just a
- 23:53Speaker 3: couple of names that have been mentioned a lot here
- 23:54Speaker 3: as far as the Kraken and their future now that
- 23:58Speaker 3: that smoke has been what were your lasting impressions of
- 24:02Speaker 3: them from their seasons Berkeley at the top, Jake and
- 24:04Speaker 3: the Ohl and how big of a summer could this
- 24:06Speaker 3: be for them here?
- 24:08Speaker 7: Well, look, we have high expectations for both of those players.
- 24:11Speaker 7: You look at Berkeley, I think he did an outstanding
- 24:13Speaker 7: job this year, learned so much. If you look at
- 24:16Speaker 7: where he was in October, in and out of the
- 24:18Speaker 7: lineup to you know, the mints that he played down
- 24:23Speaker 7: the stretch there, and just his hockey sense is elite.
- 24:26Speaker 7: You know, he showed us a lot of compete, a
- 24:28Speaker 7: lot of skill, but his hockey sense and learning from
- 24:30Speaker 7: those situations. I think he's he realizes, you know, now
- 24:33Speaker 7: reflecting back on the entire season, different things they can
- 24:36Speaker 7: maybe do a little bit better, but also working extremely
- 24:39Speaker 7: hard on his strength and becoming just that much more
- 24:42Speaker 7: ready for an eighty four game schedule here next year.
- 24:44Speaker 8: So we're very excited to have him a part of
- 24:47Speaker 8: our group.
- 24:47Speaker 7: I think it's really going to allow him having that
- 24:49Speaker 7: whole year under his belt National Coctleague, he's really going
- 24:51Speaker 7: to take a big jump come October and looking forward
- 24:54Speaker 7: to seeing that. Jake had a great year in Branford,
- 24:58Speaker 7: one of the top teams in the HL, took him
- 25:00Speaker 7: on a long playoff run, played in all situations for them.
- 25:03Speaker 7: It was excited for him to get down at Coachella
- 25:05Speaker 7: Valley at the end of their playoff run. Unfortunately he
- 25:07Speaker 7: was got sick there so couldn't play it in as
- 25:10Speaker 7: many games as we wanted to, but really excited about
- 25:13Speaker 7: his development as a player and where it can go.
- 25:15Speaker 8: And then one other name I'll just bring up to
- 25:17Speaker 8: was Oscar Moguard. We saw a little bit of him
- 25:19Speaker 8: in Seattle.
- 25:20Speaker 7: This past year, he went back down to Coachella Valley
- 25:23Speaker 7: and was, you know, if not their best player, one
- 25:26Speaker 7: of their best players and one of the best players
- 25:28Speaker 7: in the American Hockey League through two or three rounds
- 25:29Speaker 7: of the American Hockeyague playoffs. Really took his game, and
- 25:33Speaker 7: not only we always know that Oscar has a very
- 25:35Speaker 7: good defensive game, but really took the puck and it
- 25:37Speaker 7: was a lot more assertive from an offensive standpoint. So
- 25:40Speaker 7: we reflect back on his first year playing over in
- 25:42Speaker 7: North America, playing in the Olympics, playing in the National
- 25:44Speaker 7: Hockey League, being a go to player in the AHL
- 25:47Speaker 7: playoff run, you know, we have high expectations for him too.
- 25:50Speaker 3: Moving forward, Oscar certainly turning plenty of aheads here.
- 25:52Speaker 6: Jason.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Finally, this is again another year that we're trying this
- 25:55Speaker 3: format of the draft in a decentralized setting, and the
- 25:58Speaker 3: main stage is in Buffalo. Everyone else has got their
- 26:01Speaker 3: draft rooms across the league, and you know, somehow said
- 26:04Speaker 3: that they like the old format where there was kind
- 26:06Speaker 3: of a feeling of community, and I think too, if
- 26:08Speaker 3: you want to make a training and just get up,
- 26:10Speaker 3: walk down, and right there's a table for the other
- 26:13Speaker 3: team about you know, a few steps away. But how
- 26:15Speaker 3: do you feel about the old format versus the modern format?
- 26:19Speaker 8: Being honest, I'm very, very torn on it. I don't
- 26:23Speaker 8: buy the conversations. At the end of the day.
- 26:25Speaker 7: We can certainly get in touch with anybody very quickly
- 26:28Speaker 7: from that bit. But look from a decentralized process right now,
- 26:32Speaker 7: it's easier for us. Right we're in our offices, there's
- 26:35Speaker 7: easier to communicate with each other about possibilities on how
- 26:39Speaker 7: the draft unfolds versus being on a you know, an
- 26:43Speaker 7: arena floor where everyone's staring at you there. So from
- 26:45Speaker 7: our sort of work standpoint, it's easier. But I do
- 26:49Speaker 7: think we were doing a We did a great job
- 26:50Speaker 7: in sort of promoting the game with the centralized draft,
- 26:54Speaker 7: especially you look at the last three. I think they
- 26:55Speaker 7: were Vegas, Nashville, Montreal.
- 26:58Speaker 5: One.
- 26:58Speaker 7: It was fun, but it was although those cities did
- 27:00Speaker 7: a great job and promoting the game of hockey and
- 27:02Speaker 7: growing the game of hockey. So I can see the
- 27:04Speaker 7: benefits of both sides, and it will be interest to
- 27:06Speaker 7: see what we end up doing moving towards her.
- 27:08Speaker 3: I appreciate you taking a break with us here, Jason,
- 27:10Speaker 3: you've got to get back to work, certainly. Thank you
- 27:12Speaker 3: for this and cheers to a high battery on that
- 27:15Speaker 3: phone here for this entire draft weekend, moving ahead, Thank
- 27:17Speaker 3: you again, Thank you very much, Mike, and back to
- 27:20Speaker 3: the phones he goes right now, big thank you again
- 27:22Speaker 3: to GM. Jason Botterrell joining us here on draft coverage
- 27:26Speaker 3: Mike Ian Everett al with us, I think coming out
- 27:29Speaker 3: of this, we look at where this team wants to go.
- 27:32Speaker 3: They don't call it rebuilding. This is not a massive
- 27:36Speaker 3: overhaul of the roster. But they're just calling it building
- 27:38Speaker 3: here from this point coming out of this for five years.
- 27:41Speaker 3: But yet something that we notice here, Everett, I'm not
- 27:44Speaker 3: too sure that there's a lot of guys in folks
- 27:47Speaker 3: in this league who are clamoring to go back to
- 27:50Speaker 3: the old format where everyone huddle around draft.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Tables at the stage. I mean, this new formats got
- 27:56Speaker 2: some legs.
- 27:57Speaker 5: Unfortunately, it has some legs. And listen, the NHL Draft
- 28:02Speaker 5: for me, was the most unique event in sports. You
- 28:05Speaker 5: had literally the entire hockey world, all of the media,
- 28:10Speaker 5: all of the front offices, all of the owners, the GMS,
- 28:12Speaker 5: all the brass, everyone on the floor under one roof.
- 28:16Speaker 5: I thought that was such a great visual for the
- 28:18Speaker 5: fans to go. It was amazing for the teams to go.
- 28:21Speaker 5: I remember being at the draft in Jersey back in
- 28:23Speaker 5: twenty thirteen and it was such a fun experience.
- 28:27Speaker 2: And you're right.
- 28:27Speaker 5: When Ottawa's GM and Carolina's GM pick up a phone,
- 28:31Speaker 5: they could be calling their wives for all we know,
- 28:33Speaker 5: but hey, the only two people. The speculation was great,
- 28:39Speaker 5: you know. I thought it was great, and I think
- 28:41Speaker 5: Jason says something great there. The fans loved it, and
- 28:43Speaker 5: I think as an NHL ian, you're very plugged into
- 28:47Speaker 5: the to this. The NHL hockey in general is trying
- 28:51Speaker 5: to grow its game. We're not the NFL, we're not
- 28:54Speaker 5: the NBA, we're not MMA whatever. The NHL had something
- 28:58Speaker 5: that was uniquely them. They had something that was unique
- 29:02Speaker 5: to this sport. I hope they bring it back because
- 29:04Speaker 5: at the end of the day, I understand we're all
- 29:07Speaker 5: about making money. I understand that as management you want
- 29:10Speaker 5: to do what's best for your team, but there also
- 29:13Speaker 5: has to be something out there that is for the
- 29:16Speaker 5: fans that is good for the fans, and ultimately I
- 29:20Speaker 5: thought that was so good for the fans, and I
- 29:21Speaker 5: hope they.
- 29:22Speaker 4: Bring it back.
- 29:22Speaker 6: Sports is made for TV event now on every level,
- 29:24Speaker 6: no matter what the sport is. And you're right, I
- 29:26Speaker 6: think other in fact, I think other leagues, specifically the NFL.
- 29:29Speaker 6: This might be the one thing the NFL tried to
- 29:30Speaker 6: copy in a sense where when they started going to
- 29:33Speaker 6: different cities with the NFL drafted to be Radio City
- 29:36Speaker 6: Music Hall in New York. That was it and now
- 29:38Speaker 6: they've broadened it out. But yeah, to see thirty two
- 29:40Speaker 6: tables with scouts, GMS, coaches all there, an arena filled
- 29:45Speaker 6: with prospects waiting to hear their name. Were you the
- 29:47Speaker 6: Nedved Draft? Yes, I was at that draft with Peter
- 29:50Speaker 6: So that was in Vancouver, ye, nineteen ninety.
- 29:52Speaker 2: It was cell phones back then. No, they no shut tables.
- 29:58Speaker 6: Yes, it was rotary phones on slips of paper. Yeah,
- 30:01Speaker 6: people are passing notes like their high school. But you
- 30:04Speaker 6: remember that that was awesome? Yeah, like and you're there
- 30:06Speaker 6: with you're probably there was some of your junior teammates
- 30:08Speaker 6: and all those guys, like and how much fun was that?
- 30:11Speaker 4: A giant bowl with all the fans in the stadiums
- 30:14Speaker 4: and the players hoping to get drafted at the bottom
- 30:15Speaker 4: of that bowl third, not thirty two, barb about thirty
- 30:18Speaker 4: at the time, thirty tables with like you say, eight
- 30:21Speaker 4: to twelve people at each table, one phone, and you're
- 30:24Speaker 4: watching who's making phone calls to Boston?
- 30:26Speaker 2: Utah just made a trade.
- 30:27Speaker 6: If this was If this was, you know, back then,
- 30:29Speaker 6: we would have saw the GMS probably walking over talking
- 30:31Speaker 6: to each other, doing a sidebar and all that, and
- 30:33Speaker 6: then and then the other teams are like, what the hell,
- 30:35Speaker 6: what's going on? That drama was so good I'd listen.
- 30:39Speaker 6: Bots said the right thing there. He wants to be here.
- 30:43Speaker 6: Every GM wants to be in their own building. Yes,
- 30:45Speaker 6: but what's better for the league? You just mentioned it.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think this could also be good for business.
- 30:48Speaker 5: Think about it too. I mean, if you're a team,
- 30:51Speaker 5: you want a tent pole event in your building, you
- 30:53Speaker 5: want an All Star game, you want a World Cup
- 30:57Speaker 5: of Hockey game or whatever. You want something outside of
- 31:01Speaker 5: your forty one forty two guaranteed regular season events. I
- 31:06Speaker 5: think that the draft in your city with everyone that
- 31:09Speaker 5: would have been Can you imagine the visual the expansion draft.
- 31:14Speaker 5: Can you imagine the NHL draft under the space needle
- 31:17Speaker 5: on South Lake Union at gas Works Park or whatever,
- 31:20Speaker 5: the amount of people that are here for the World
- 31:23Speaker 5: Cup and how beautiful it looks.
- 31:24Speaker 6: That would just be such a great visual. And I
- 31:27Speaker 6: hope they go back to I want to revisit that
- 31:28Speaker 6: later in the next staving. There's something you can tie
- 31:30Speaker 6: into our next zewa.
- 31:31Speaker 3: And we can also talk about this old Jason Robertson
- 31:33Speaker 3: thing as far as a deep dive in what it means,
- 31:36Speaker 3: how we got here and where the crack can go
- 31:38Speaker 3: from now.
- 31:38Speaker 2: But I and you tease this here.
- 31:40Speaker 3: It appears according to reports that according to Frank Saravali,
- 31:43Speaker 3: also the Bruins and Utah, they are engaged in discussions
- 31:46Speaker 3: on JJ Peterka in a trade. One of the proposals
- 31:49Speaker 3: Boston had on the table included multiple.
- 31:52Speaker 2: First round picks.
- 31:53Speaker 3: My goodness, we are just getting warmed up in this
- 31:56Speaker 3: draft officially still has yet to begin. That will happen
- 31:59Speaker 3: at pm Pacific time with the Kraken will pick seventh.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Potentially plenty of defencemen available on the board that could
- 32:06Speaker 3: help them down the road.
- 32:07Speaker 2: But do they hang on to it?
- 32:08Speaker 3: Will they trade it. A lot of things can happen
- 32:11Speaker 3: here from now, but where do they go following the
- 32:13Speaker 3: Jason Robertson thing that fell through as of last night.
- 32:16Speaker 3: We'll discuss more after this right here on ninety three
- 32:18Speaker 3: three KJRFM.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Now back to the NHL Draft Show with your host
- 32:33Speaker 1: Mike Benton, live from thirty two Bar and Grill, presented
- 32:36Speaker 1: by your home for the Kraken Sports Radio ninety three
- 32:39Speaker 1: point three kjr FM.
- 32:43Speaker 3: All right, pick, Thanks once again to GM Jason Bonrel
- 32:46Speaker 3: joining us here for this last segment as he is
- 32:48Speaker 3: still working the phones big time.
- 32:50Speaker 4: Right now.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Is our coverage continuing live at thirty two Bar and
- 32:53Speaker 3: Grill Mike Ian Everett, Al, as we await the beginning
- 32:57Speaker 3: of this draft at four pm. The Krakens still scheduled
- 32:59Speaker 3: two pick seventh. That pick could be in play, and apparently,
- 33:02Speaker 3: according to numerous reports last night, it was in play
- 33:06Speaker 3: where Jason Robertson's name entered the news cycle and it
- 33:11Speaker 3: set off a reaction of firestorm proportions. Apparently, the crack
- 33:15Speaker 3: and talking about a sign and trade deal that fell through,
- 33:18Speaker 3: fifteen million dollars per year was what he would have
- 33:22Speaker 3: potentially received eight year deal. Reports said he turned it down,
- 33:26Speaker 3: so we said we would dive into this a little
- 33:28Speaker 3: bit more, just based on the direction of the team
- 33:30Speaker 3: short term and long term and where the optics are
- 33:34Speaker 3: right now for what could be a very very pivotal offseason.
- 33:37Speaker 3: So I think I'll begin with you Ian just about
- 33:40Speaker 3: this news they're pecking order for top end talent, and
- 33:43Speaker 3: what does it say about a process like this as
- 33:46Speaker 3: far as where they leans with turning over this roster
- 33:49Speaker 3: versus leading also into youth.
- 33:51Speaker 6: Well, the Crackner battling, let's just talk about Jason Roberson.
- 33:54Speaker 6: I mean, that's the story I'll be talking about. I mean,
- 33:56Speaker 6: they're battling a perception problem and there's a reality to
- 33:59Speaker 6: it as well. Guys want to go to ready made contenders.
- 34:01Speaker 6: In Seattle right now is not a ready made contender.
- 34:03Speaker 6: They're a borderline playoff team. A guy like Jason Robertson
- 34:06Speaker 6: changes the whole dynamics of that, which is interesting because
- 34:09Speaker 6: you should be able to sell that to him. Hey,
- 34:10Speaker 6: you're gonna come here. We just missed the playoffs last season.
- 34:14Speaker 6: You come here, we're in and then who knows where
- 34:17Speaker 6: we can go? And it attracts better players you could
- 34:19Speaker 6: be the guy that helped start a championship run, which
- 34:21Speaker 6: is what Bobby the guy, which is what Bobby McMahon
- 34:24Speaker 6: told me today, goes, I want to be a part
- 34:25Speaker 6: of this thing. Is it keeps getting better and grows
- 34:27Speaker 6: and kind of like a startup. Everett, you mentioned it
- 34:30Speaker 6: last segment. I think it's a great point about the
- 34:31Speaker 6: whole decentralized part of the draft like All Star games.
- 34:35Speaker 6: Aside you have like something like that, a temple event
- 34:38Speaker 6: like an All Star game, or even like we just
- 34:40Speaker 6: talked about, if you were to have a draft here
- 34:43Speaker 6: and you and all of a sudden, every agent in
- 34:45Speaker 6: the world is here with their prospects within the all
- 34:47Speaker 6: of the NHL guys, what would that do for the
- 34:49Speaker 6: perception of Seattle, Because all it took was Bobby McMahon
- 34:52Speaker 6: to get here, explore the city yep, and say, you
- 34:55Speaker 6: know what facilities are top notch, Arena's top notts. Already
- 34:59Speaker 6: knew that, Oh wow, I could live here. Yeah, that's
- 35:02Speaker 6: what you need. So go back to time what you
- 35:04Speaker 6: said before. That's what Because Seattle's perception right now, guys
- 35:07Speaker 6: think we're in Alaska and or or like you know, Winnipeg, Northwest,
- 35:13Speaker 6: whatever it might be. But once they get here, every
- 35:16Speaker 6: party that's been here, you've talked to him a lot
- 35:18Speaker 6: more than I do.
- 35:19Speaker 5: They like it here. They like it here, they want
- 35:20Speaker 5: to be here. And I think for me, that's the
- 35:22Speaker 5: biggest question, or the biggest thing. I want guys here
- 35:25Speaker 5: who wants to be here. And I'll say this, I
- 35:27Speaker 5: don't care if it's Connor McDavid. If Conor McDavid doesn't
- 35:30Speaker 5: want to be in Seattle, then I don't want Connor
- 35:33Speaker 5: McDavid in Seattle, right. I don't care how good you are.
- 35:36Speaker 5: I don't care where you come from. That's what matters
- 35:39Speaker 5: to me. And I would rather have a million Bobby
- 35:41Speaker 5: McMahon's guys who are gonna work hard, Guys who wants
- 35:44Speaker 5: to be a part of something special. We're gonna look
- 35:47Speaker 5: back at the end of this McMahon six year deal.
- 35:49Speaker 5: Hopefully the Krack and have got a couple of division
- 35:51Speaker 5: banners that raised. Hopefully the Kracking have got a Conference
- 35:55Speaker 5: finals trip, maybe a Stanley Cup trip. Maybe we've paraded
- 35:59Speaker 5: ourselves down Occidental all the way into Seattle Center. Right.
- 36:03Speaker 5: Hopefully that's the case. But I want to look back
- 36:05Speaker 5: at the end of this big man contract and have
- 36:07Speaker 5: a guy like that say, man, I was here in
- 36:09Speaker 5: the beginning, look at us. Now we're on the top
- 36:12Speaker 5: of the hockey World point and I think that is
- 36:14Speaker 5: what's crucial. And when you're starting to build, when you
- 36:17Speaker 5: want to grow. We talk a lot about culture. You
- 36:19Speaker 5: want guys who want to be here, and that's big
- 36:22Speaker 5: for me.
- 36:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I just think that from a player's perspective, there
- 36:25Speaker 4: are probably six or seven things that you're factoring in
- 36:28Speaker 4: when you're considering a trade. And if you have a
- 36:31Speaker 4: no move clause, obviously that helps. But to me, the
- 36:35Speaker 4: number one thing is net after tax income. I get it,
- 36:39Speaker 4: fifteen million, some big number fits you're losing one and
- 36:42Speaker 4: a half million with a ten percent tax, but it
- 36:45Speaker 4: factors in. The chance to win is my second one.
- 36:48Speaker 4: Climate factors in. I want to play in a place
- 36:50Speaker 4: it's nice. I don't want to play in a place
- 36:52Speaker 4: that's you know, thirty blow zero all year long. You
- 36:54Speaker 4: only got eight of those, you get right, the entire
- 36:56Speaker 4: league in eight markets.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Travel.
- 36:58Speaker 4: Travel is important and I don't think Seeah is as
- 37:00Speaker 4: bad as some people think, but travel is important to me.
- 37:03Speaker 4: And then you get into like family, preferences, organizational stability,
- 37:06Speaker 4: market media pressure. We talked about a little bit, but
- 37:08Speaker 4: those top four, those top three, those are really important
- 37:11Speaker 4: to me. And right now I would put Seattle at
- 37:14Speaker 4: about twentieth of one through twenty one, being the player
- 37:18Speaker 4: the city that's on every team's no or every player's
- 37:22Speaker 4: no trade clause. Now probably Winnipeg is at the top,
- 37:24Speaker 4: but I think if this tax goes through, Seattle probably
- 37:28Speaker 4: moves up to six. Yeah, and that's not going to
- 37:30Speaker 4: be good for at tracking players.
- 37:31Speaker 3: And we still have seen yet other teams, like say
- 37:34Speaker 3: in California, despite the income state tax as well, they
- 37:37Speaker 3: found a way to attract talent.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Because what do you do.
- 37:40Speaker 3: You win, That's why you get art, and that's how
- 37:43Speaker 3: you build from there. We'll get to more of this certainly. Additionally,
- 37:46Speaker 3: with the seventh overall pick coming up that about roughly
- 37:49Speaker 3: an hour from now or so. If that is a
- 37:51Speaker 3: pick the crack and hold on to Jason Gregor as well,
- 37:54Speaker 3: Daily Faceoff will have some comments from him and react
- 37:56Speaker 3: to that as our covers continues here from thirty two
- 37:59Speaker 3: Bar Grill for the twenty twenty six NHL Entry Draft.
- 38:03Speaker 2: More coming up after this right here on ninety three
- 38:05Speaker 2: three k JRFM,
