- 0:15Welcome to. Love
- 1:00through Welcome to Love Letters from God.
- 1:08Today we're going to read several Psalms and then we're
- 1:12going to look at a little different situation on how we
- 1:20pray for other people. So let's start out reading Psalm
- 1:2649. Hear this.
- 1:30All peoples give ear, all inhabitants of the world, both
- 1:38low and high, rich and poor. Together My mouth shall speak
- 1:46wisdom, and the meditation of my heart shall give understanding.
- 1:52I will incline my ear to a proverb.
- 1:56I will disclose my dark saying on the harp.
- 2:00Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity at my
- 2:06heels surround me? Those who trust in their wealth
- 2:10and boast in the multitude of their riches, none of them can
- 2:16by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for
- 2:21him. For the Redeemer of their souls
- 2:24is costly, and it shall cease forever that he should continue
- 2:30to live eternally and not see the pit, for he sees wise men
- 2:37die. Likewise the fool and the
- 2:41senseless person perish, and they leave their wealth to
- 2:45others. Their inner thought is that
- 2:49their houses will last forever, their dwelling places to all
- 2:54generations. They call their lands after
- 2:58their own names, and nevertheless man, though in
- 3:02honor, does not remain. He's like the beasts that
- 3:07perish. This is the way of those who are
- 3:10foolish and of their posterity, who approve their sayings Like
- 3:16sheep there laid in the grave. Death shall feed on them.
- 3:22The upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and
- 3:27their beauty should be consumed in the grave far from their
- 3:31dwelling. But God will redeem my soul from
- 3:35the power of the grave, for He should receive me.
- 3:42Do not be afraid when one becomes rich and when the glory
- 3:46of his houses increase, For when he dies he should carry nothing
- 3:51away. His glory shall not descend
- 3:55after him, and though while he lives he blesses himself.
- 4:00For men will praise you when you do well for yourself.
- 4:05He shall go to the generation of his fathers.
- 4:08They shall never see the light. A man who is in honour yet does
- 4:13not understand is like the beast that perish.
- 4:18Now in that particular Psalm, David is saying that, you know,
- 4:24it really doesn't matter what you have when you die, you're
- 4:32not going to take it with you anyway.
- 4:34So you might as well bless the Lord with what you have, when
- 4:40you have it, and use it for God's glory and not just for
- 4:46yourself. Let's jump over to Psalms 84
- 4:54now. How lovely is your Tabernacle, O
- 5:01Lord of hosts, my so longs, yes, even faints for the courts of
- 5:07the Lord. My heart and my flesh cry out
- 5:12for the living God. Even the Sparrow has found a
- 5:17home, and the swallow in this for herself, where she may lay
- 5:22her young. Even your altars, O Lord of
- 5:26hosts, my King and my God, blessed are those who dwell in
- 5:31your house. They will still be praising you.
- 5:36Blessed is the man whose strength is in you, whose heart
- 5:42is set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the valley
- 5:46of Bacca, they make it a spring. The rain covers it with pools.
- 5:53They go from strength to strength.
- 5:56Each one appears before God in Zion, O Lord, God of hosts, Him
- 6:03give ear, O God of Jacob. O God, behold our shield.
- 6:09Look upon our face if you're anointed for a day in your
- 6:14courts is better than 1000. I would rather be a doorkeeper
- 6:19in the House of God, and dwell in the temps of the wickedness.
- 6:26For the Lord God is a Son and His shield.
- 6:30The Lord will give grace and glory.
- 6:33No good thing will he withhold from those who walk uprightly.
- 6:40O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in you.
- 6:45Such was Psalms 84, a short Psalm.
- 6:50But notice how David is saying it's so great to be in the House
- 6:56of the Lord. Now, in order to be in the House
- 6:59of the Lord, of course you have to live the way the Lord wants.
- 7:04But the blessings that the Lord provides are so great.
- 7:09They're so much greater than whatever we possess here.
- 7:13If we live for him, if we appreciate His love letters here
- 7:20and apply them to our lives, our home later is really going to be
- 7:25special. Let's just continue on with
- 7:29Psalms 85 here. Lord, you have been favorable to
- 7:34your land. You have brought back the
- 7:38captivity of Jacob, You have forgiven the iniquity of your
- 7:43people, You have covered all their sin, You have taken away
- 7:49all your wrath, and you have turned from the fierceness of
- 7:52your anger. Restore us, O God, of our
- 7:56salvation, and cause your anger toward us to cease.
- 8:01Will you be angry with us forever?
- 8:04Will You prolong your anger to all generations?
- 8:09Will you not revive us again that your people may rejoice in
- 8:14you? Show us in your mercy, Lord, and
- 8:18grant us your salvation. I will hear what God the Lord
- 8:24will speak for. He will speak peace to His
- 8:29people and to His Saints, but let them not turn back to folly.
- 8:36Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory
- 8:41may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth have met
- 8:46together, righteousness and peace have kissed.
- 8:52Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall
- 8:56look down from heaven. Yes, the Lord will give what is
- 9:00good and our land will yield its increase.
- 9:04Righteousness will go before him and shall make his footsteps our
- 9:10pathway such as Psalms 85. In that particular Psalm, David
- 9:19is saying, OK, so you, so you blew it.
- 9:24You made some mistakes, but change your life, repent, turn
- 9:30around. When you do that, the Lord,
- 9:33yeah, he's a he's a forgiver. He will forgive you.
- 9:40Let's jump over now to Psalms 87.
- 9:45His foundation is in the holy mountains.
- 9:50The Lord loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of
- 9:55Jacob. Glorious things are spoken of
- 9:59you, O city of God. I will make mention of Rahab and
- 10:06Babylon to those who know me. Behold, O Felicia and Tyre with
- 10:13Ethiopia, this one is born there, and of Zion it will be
- 10:18said, this one and that one were born in her, and the Most High
- 10:25himself shall establish her. The Lord will record when he
- 10:32registers the peoples. This one was born there.
- 10:38Both the singers and the players on instruments say, and my
- 10:43strings are in you there. You know, God pays attention to
- 10:52where you're from, where you live in.
- 10:58You see, He's very, he's very interested in you and he wants
- 11:02you to be interested in him too. Now I've got one other little
- 11:07thought that I want to leave with you today while we're
- 11:11thinking about how wonderful the Lord he is and how he does
- 11:18everything he can to help you and me.
- 11:23This is a story about two men who landed on a barren island
- 11:30after a after a shipwreck. They divided the island and they
- 11:37decided to pray for the same things to see whose prayers
- 11:43would be answered. One man received everything and
- 11:51the other received nothing, and eventually the man who received
- 11:57everything was saved. And when he left, God asked him
- 12:05why he left his friend behind. He said that he deserved the
- 12:11rescue because God favored his prayers.
- 12:16Then God said that the man who received nothing had only one
- 12:22prayer, and that prayer was that the other person's prayers
- 12:29should be answered. You know our prayers are often
- 12:34very self-centered. Yes, God does answer our
- 12:39prayers, but very often, however, the blessings we
- 12:45experience in life are the result of the prayers of others.
- 12:51Like maybe our parents could be our children could be friends
- 12:58who pray for God's blessings and healing in our lives.
- 13:05To pray for others is to share in God's work.
- 13:10When we bring people before God, we expose them to the love of
- 13:18God, the walls and distance that separate us fall down.
- 13:26We're bound together as one big intimate family, and there's no
- 13:34greater intimacy than we pray for somebody else.
- 13:41It's such a blessing that you and I can pray for our children
- 13:46and our grandchildren. We can pray for our friends, we
- 13:52can pray for other Christians, and while we're thousands and
- 13:56thousands of miles away from them, we're all bound together
- 14:03in an intimate family when we pray together.
- 14:09And shall we do that? Now let's have a prayer.
- 14:13Our Father in heaven, we thank you for all you dear, thank you
- 14:21for what you've done for us. And we pray right now for all
- 14:25those other people we know, those who are sick, those who
- 14:30are afflicted, those who are bothered, bless them.
- 14:35And if any way that we might be able to help them, show us what
- 14:41we might do and help us to do that as well.
- 14:46We pray this all in Jesus name, Amen.
