- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, The Truth about Sorority Life with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts me Gia Judice.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Kessler. Welcome back to another episode
- 0:13Speaker 2: of Dirty Ruf Rush. I'm your host Davey Kent. Today
- 0:16Speaker 2: we're talking all about what sorority life looks like after
- 0:19Speaker 2: you graduate. We're gonna hear from some amazing guests about
- 0:22Speaker 2: what sisterhood means to them years after graduation. So for me,
- 0:27Speaker 2: sorority sisterhood after college. I'm actually really close with a
- 0:32Speaker 2: lot of my sorority sisters. I have four sorority sisters
- 0:36Speaker 2: in my wedding that are going to be bridesmaids. And
- 0:39Speaker 2: then I actually I was in Alpha FE and then
- 0:41Speaker 2: pi FI was like the other sorority I was really
- 0:45Speaker 2: close with, and two of my bridesmaids were in PIEFI
- 0:48Speaker 2: my little from my sorority is also in my wedding,
- 0:51Speaker 2: which is really cool. And I think for me, like
- 0:55Speaker 2: maintaining that friendship just goes back to being in college
- 0:59Speaker 2: and being in side such an interesting time of your
- 1:01Speaker 2: life and you learn so much about yourself, and also
- 1:04Speaker 2: it can be really difficult but really amazing, and so
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'm really lucky that I have such a good friend
- 1:09Speaker 2: group through it all, and I think everything just made
- 1:12Speaker 2: us so much closer. So in my wedding, actually two
- 1:17Speaker 2: of my sorority sisters are going to give a speech,
- 1:19Speaker 2: which is really exciting. One of them, Jacqueline, she's I
- 1:22Speaker 2: have four Maative honors, but she's going to give a speech.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And then Christy was in pi FI and she's going
- 1:28Speaker 2: to give a speech also, so she wasn't my sorority sister,
- 1:31Speaker 2: but in a sorority also. And then if I had
- 1:34Speaker 2: to describe my bridesmaids in one sentence to a stranger,
- 1:39Speaker 2: I would say, they're very loyal friends, and there's I
- 1:46Speaker 2: could call them and there's nothing that they wouldn't do
- 1:48Speaker 2: for me and me same for them. They're just they're
- 1:50Speaker 2: really really great people. So after college was such an
- 1:54Speaker 2: interesting time in my life because my health got really
- 1:56Speaker 2: bad and I was very sick for a while, and
- 1:59Speaker 2: they really rallied behind me and helped me, whether it
- 2:02Speaker 2: was going to treatments with me or just studying me
- 2:05Speaker 2: support or being there for me when I literally I
- 2:09Speaker 2: couldn't go out and do all the normal stuff that
- 2:11Speaker 2: like a college student does. Right after college and then
- 2:15Speaker 2: also within my time when I went on The Bachelor,
- 2:18Speaker 2: in my life just like really really changed. It's so
- 2:21Speaker 2: interesting because my friend group is still the exact same.
- 2:24Speaker 2: I made some new friendships from the show and stuff,
- 2:26Speaker 2: but all my best friends and everyone they're the same.
- 2:30Speaker 2: So well with that everyone, I have Lydia here, So
- 2:34Speaker 2: she is actually my little from my sorority in Alpha fe.
- 2:37Speaker 2: She's a year younger than me, and we met when
- 2:39Speaker 2: I was a sophomore and she was a freshman going
- 2:41Speaker 2: through recruitment. And the first time we met, I forget
- 2:46Speaker 2: what day it was of recruitment, but I remember talking
- 2:48Speaker 2: to Lydia and I was like, I just felt like
- 2:51Speaker 2: we were like meant to be. And since then we've
- 2:56Speaker 2: been like so close and it's been such a fun
- 3:00Speaker 2: and meaningful relationship. But Lydia, do you remember when we
- 3:03Speaker 2: first met.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, I'll never forget it. And I feel
- 3:07Speaker 3: like our first like couple of days together, it was like, oh,
- 3:10Speaker 3: you're from Minnesota, we love the color yellow, and we
- 3:14Speaker 3: both are just like such like joyful people, and we
- 3:17Speaker 3: bonded over like so much different medical stuff that we
- 3:20Speaker 3: both had gone through. I'll never forget prefnite, Like, I
- 3:24Speaker 3: will literally never forget Prefnite together. Like, don't you feel
- 3:29Speaker 3: like that's like one of the most special memories we
- 3:31Speaker 3: ever had.
- 3:32Speaker 2: For sure, And it's crazy to think back on because
- 3:34Speaker 2: like this year, going into like August, it will be
- 3:38Speaker 2: ten years since I started college, so we've known each
- 3:41Speaker 2: other nine years this coming August, which is crazy to
- 3:44Speaker 2: think about. That makes me feel old.
- 3:46Speaker 4: Don't say that.
- 3:48Speaker 2: What, Yeah, that's crazy?
- 3:52Speaker 3: Ten years is crazy?
- 3:53Speaker 4: Wow?
- 3:55Speaker 2: Right? So you guys everyone listening. So, Lydia is a
- 3:59Speaker 2: bridesmaid in my way wedding too. I don't know if
- 4:01Speaker 2: I've said that, but the reason I chose her to
- 4:05Speaker 2: be a bridesmaid is because I feel like we have
- 4:07Speaker 2: such a unique and special relationship. She's somebody like she's
- 4:11Speaker 2: gone through a lot of health things too, and we're
- 4:14Speaker 2: both like have a good sense of our faith and
- 4:17Speaker 2: stuff like that, and I feel like we've just really
- 4:20Speaker 2: bonded over a lot of stuff and all of the
- 4:23Speaker 2: like hard seasons and all of the really good seasons.
- 4:26Speaker 2: Lyddy has always really been there for me, and I
- 4:29Speaker 2: just think our relationship is very, very special. She's somebody
- 4:33Speaker 2: that I talk too often. But also if we don't
- 4:37Speaker 2: talk to each other for like a month, and then
- 4:39Speaker 2: we call and talk on the phone. We'll like probably
- 4:42Speaker 2: talk for an hour and just like it's almost like
- 4:46Speaker 2: it feels like we're family in a way. So that's
- 4:50Speaker 2: why I have her in my wedding. And I think,
- 4:54Speaker 2: what do you think about like this next stage of
- 4:56Speaker 2: life or like the stage being out of Like call,
- 5:00Speaker 2: what would you say? Because you're close with some of
- 5:03Speaker 2: your like sorority sisters that are in your grade. Also, yeah,
- 5:06Speaker 2: and even.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Like our like my little your g little like we are.
- 5:11Speaker 3: We live seven minutes down the road from each other,
- 5:12Speaker 3: and she has babies and is married, And I feel
- 5:15Speaker 3: like going through like into this next chapter, it's so
- 5:20Speaker 3: different because we would talk about such day to day
- 5:23Speaker 3: things and now we're talking about buying houses and weddings
- 5:27Speaker 3: and children, and just like it's so wild to still
- 5:31Speaker 3: feel the simplicity of the friendship. It just has changed
- 5:35Speaker 3: so much, even though we're still so close. Yeah, and yeah,
- 5:39Speaker 3: I mean it's just so fun to cheer each other on.
- 5:41Speaker 3: I think, like, no matter whatever season of life I've
- 5:44Speaker 3: been in, I feel like you've been such a cheerleader
- 5:46Speaker 3: for me.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And like I.
- 5:47Speaker 3: Look up to you like a big sister, and I
- 5:49Speaker 3: feel like sometimes it goes the other way around.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Like for her, it's like very very wise. So anytime
- 6:00Speaker 2: I'm having like a life crisis, I call her. She's
- 6:04Speaker 2: like sometimes I'm like, wait, how old are you?
- 6:10Speaker 3: But I also feel like it's cool because, like, you know,
- 6:13Speaker 3: for like, he was like a bestie in college, you know,
- 6:17Speaker 3: and so like it's so fun now like seeing the
- 6:20Speaker 3: two of you and just like how the friendship has
- 6:22Speaker 3: turned into something you know, like that's going to last
- 6:26Speaker 3: a lifetime, which is sad equally as amazing.
- 6:30Speaker 2: That is crazy to think about because yeah, because when
- 6:32Speaker 2: you first met me, you also met Thor, which was weird.
- 6:36Speaker 2: And then to talk about everything that has happened in
- 6:38Speaker 2: between then until now is like so crazy, but it's
- 6:42Speaker 2: so awesome to look back on too.
- 6:45Speaker 3: Yeah, anyone in the halls of Zura at San Diego State,
- 6:47Speaker 3: there have been some very core memories made there.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Literally, what do you do You have any specific memories
- 6:55Speaker 2: from our sorority days that like really like speak out
- 7:00Speaker 2: to you.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Without going into too much detail, every big little that
- 7:05Speaker 3: ever happened, stay too, And I loved formals together, Like
- 7:14Speaker 3: those are some of my favorite memories with you. We
- 7:16Speaker 3: were a big like sygab people obviously, and anytime like
- 7:21Speaker 3: I wasn't a very big I wasn't a very big
- 7:24Speaker 3: guy person like I just wasn't. I didn't like fling
- 7:28Speaker 3: around as much in college, and whenever I got got
- 7:30Speaker 3: to go with you, I felt like so cool because
- 7:33Speaker 3: I would be like, oh, I'm I'm with Daisy and
- 7:36Speaker 3: we're gonna go hang out with all the guys that
- 7:43Speaker 3: and you know, exactly one night I'm talking.
- 7:45Speaker 2: About say up groupie.
- 7:46Speaker 3: For sure, Halloween at SAGAP is like a core memory. Yeah,
- 7:52Speaker 3: for every year that ever happened that it ever happened
- 7:55Speaker 3: as well.
- 7:55Speaker 2: For sure. I think Also one for me is when
- 7:58Speaker 2: we drove out. This wasn't like for a sorority thing,
- 8:02Speaker 2: but it was so weird because me and Lydia met
- 8:05Speaker 2: in college but we're both from Minnesota. So after one summer,
- 8:09Speaker 2: me and her road tripped out from Minnesota to San
- 8:12Speaker 2: Diego and she drove her car literally like the whole
- 8:16Speaker 2: way and we did a little road trip and it
- 8:18Speaker 2: was so much fun.
- 8:20Speaker 3: You like swam in the canyons and you done are.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Like, yeah, it was such a great time.
- 8:26Speaker 3: That was so fun and you were moving into your
- 8:28Speaker 3: PEV house that time.
- 8:30Speaker 2: Yeah, senior year.
- 8:32Speaker 3: Yeah that was crazy, what a different life. That was
- 8:34Speaker 3: such a good memory.
- 8:36Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you think that friendships that last are the
- 8:40Speaker 2: ones like you expect to last or do you think
- 8:43Speaker 2: there's like unexpected ones.
- 8:46Speaker 3: I feel like life just changes so much, and like
- 8:50Speaker 3: looking back, I knew that when we met, like you
- 8:53Speaker 3: were going to be in my life forever.
- 8:56Speaker 2: I felt that like gives me chills.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Yeah, Like from the ivet met, I was like, you're
- 9:01Speaker 3: going to be in my life forever, Like you're going
- 9:03Speaker 3: to be in my wedding one day, and now like
- 9:05Speaker 3: I'm in your wedding.
- 9:05Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 9:07Speaker 3: But then like you kind of see who really lasts postgrad,
- 9:12Speaker 3: you know, and like who definitely shows up for you
- 9:15Speaker 3: and who I don't know you talk to without a
- 9:18Speaker 3: feeling too, you know, to catch up with them.
- 9:22Speaker 2: That's a weird time in life too, Like people are
- 9:24Speaker 2: like trying to find jobs or have a job and
- 9:27Speaker 2: like moving different places. So I think after college is
- 9:31Speaker 2: like really telling to like who you stay close with.
- 9:36Speaker 3: A like it goes beyond distance and time zones, and
- 9:41Speaker 3: you know, it really is like if I can call
- 9:43Speaker 3: you and we haven't talked in six weeks, it's like
- 9:45Speaker 3: nothing changes. Like those are the friendships that last, you know.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Forever, m hm, because life gets crazy as you get
- 9:52Speaker 2: older too. Yeah, alities, even now, I'm like, can you
- 9:58Speaker 2: imagine when we get it's gonna be more career?
- 10:01Speaker 3: No, I've met can people are having them, and it
- 10:04Speaker 3: just it never slows down.
- 10:06Speaker 2: It never slows Yeah. Do you have a specific moment
- 10:10Speaker 2: that you can think about when like a sorority sister
- 10:13Speaker 2: that you had in like the past but like now
- 10:16Speaker 2: like is currently in your life when they like really
- 10:20Speaker 2: showed up for you.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Gosh, I mean the first person I think it was
- 10:23Speaker 3: Taylor Derek, who is my little everyone, Yeah listening, we
- 10:29Speaker 3: are just we've had a really strong lineage. But yeah,
- 10:35Speaker 3: I mean Taylor decided when I got my job in Charleston,
- 10:40Speaker 3: my first job in twenty twenty one, she decided to
- 10:44Speaker 3: move with me, and she had never been here like ever,
- 10:48Speaker 3: and we are like sisterhood turns into like family, and
- 10:51Speaker 3: we we became each other's family. And now we're still
- 10:54Speaker 3: out here in Charleston, and you know, it's like everyday things,
- 10:58Speaker 3: whether it's share in closets. We're still sharing closets, Like
- 11:02Speaker 3: she has kids and I borrow her outfits and vice versa.
- 11:06Speaker 3: But it's like the little moments, you know, like whether
- 11:09Speaker 3: it's dropping off food for one person or the other,
- 11:11Speaker 3: or you know, she comes over and brightens my day
- 11:15Speaker 3: with her babies. It's just like that friendship is also
- 11:18Speaker 3: one that is going to last forever as well.
- 11:20Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean so special.
- 11:22Speaker 3: Yeah, it's so special.
- 11:24Speaker 2: It really is. And do you have any like advice
- 11:27Speaker 2: for girls graduating that want to keep their relationships close
- 11:31Speaker 2: with their sorority sisters.
- 11:33Speaker 3: I would say, don't wait to catch up, Like, don't wait,
- 11:41Speaker 3: life is going to be crazy, and one text message,
- 11:45Speaker 3: one phone call is all you need to stay connected.
- 11:50Speaker 3: Like there are months that you're gonna have too much
- 11:52Speaker 3: going on and all you need to do is send
- 11:56Speaker 3: a short text. So just like, don't don't wait to
- 11:59Speaker 3: to keep in touch with your sisters. You have to
- 12:03Speaker 3: invest in your friendships, and like that's not going to
- 12:06Speaker 3: go away, but it doesn't have to be complicated.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I love that. Well, thank you so much for coming on.
- 12:12Speaker 2: It was so special having you on here.
- 12:15Speaker 4: It's so fun.
- 12:15Speaker 3: I love you.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I love you too, okay, well, I will talk to
- 12:20Speaker 2: you later.
- 12:21Speaker 5: Okay, bye, Okay, guys, we have Maddie On here now.
- 12:39Speaker 6: And where did you go to school, Maddie Hi, I
- 12:42Speaker 6: went to University of Nevada Reno.
- 12:45Speaker 2: Yes, and you are also assumed to be bride right, Yes, I.
- 12:49Speaker 6: Am twenty twenty seven, so excited, so exciting.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Are you close with any of your sorority sisters anymore
- 12:57Speaker 2: or any of them in your wedding? Yes?
- 13:00Speaker 6: They are My big is in my wedding. I absolutely
- 13:03Speaker 6: love her. Yeah, I'm so excited. And then one of
- 13:07Speaker 6: my childhood best friends we went to the same college
- 13:11Speaker 6: and she is also going to be one of my
- 13:13Speaker 6: bride's nids. We were in the same sorority, so those
- 13:16Speaker 6: two are definitely like my two for my sorority.
- 13:20Speaker 2: That's so fun. I just had my little on right
- 13:23Speaker 2: before you, and she's in my wedding too.
- 13:27Speaker 7: Oh my gosh.
- 13:28Speaker 6: Really, I feel like that bond is so special between
- 13:32Speaker 6: a big and a.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Little it is. It's really cool. Like if you like
- 13:35Speaker 2: Mesh well, yes, Brennan can be like so special exactly.
- 13:41Speaker 7: That makes all the difference.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Do you have any like other sorority girls that will
- 13:45Speaker 2: be invited to your wedding.
- 13:48Speaker 6: Yeah, I have a bunch of girls that will be invited.
- 13:52Speaker 6: They'll definitely be there for sure. I feel like we're
- 13:56Speaker 6: at such like an interesting age where if I got married,
- 13:59Speaker 6: like and maybe even just a few years ago, I
- 14:01Speaker 6: feel like more sorority sisters.
- 14:04Speaker 7: Would be in the wedding party.
- 14:06Speaker 6: But we you know, like it was seems like a
- 14:09Speaker 6: while ago that we graduated, so you meet new people.
- 14:12Speaker 6: But yeah, a bunch of a bunch of girls are invited.
- 14:15Speaker 6: How many bridesmaids are you having? I have eight bridesmaids, Okay,
- 14:20Speaker 6: I have twelve.
- 14:22Speaker 7: Yeah, that's so funny. How many were in your sorority?
- 14:27Speaker 2: I have Riley, Kendall, Jacqueline, and Lydia, so four of them.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Oh great, so that's like a good yeah sure. And
- 14:36Speaker 2: then I have like a couple of high school friends
- 14:38Speaker 2: and then a couple girls that were in like I
- 14:42Speaker 2: was in Alphahy and they were in pi FI but
- 14:45Speaker 2: we were really close. So those two and then like
- 14:48Speaker 2: my sister in law, my sisters, and then my like
- 14:51Speaker 2: two week sister in law.
- 14:52Speaker 7: Oh I love that it's same.
- 14:54Speaker 6: It's like just a little eclectic mix of everyone.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yes, did you have you Well, you've asked your bridesmaids then, right,
- 15:03Speaker 2: how did you ask them?
- 15:04Speaker 7: I got them?
- 15:05Speaker 6: I did like the classic little bridesmaid box.
- 15:09Speaker 5: I got that.
- 15:10Speaker 7: Yeah, I loved it.
- 15:11Speaker 6: It was like my fait. It's been my favorite part
- 15:13Speaker 6: so far. I'm like getting to give to them these things.
- 15:16Speaker 6: But yeah, I had like the little makeup bag with
- 15:19Speaker 6: their initials embroidered into it, and like a fragrance and
- 15:23Speaker 6: a candle and you know, all the like things you'll.
- 15:25Speaker 7: Find on Pinterest.
- 15:27Speaker 2: Yes, all the fun stuff exactly. Now, like when you
- 15:31Speaker 2: met your big did you think that you guys were
- 15:33Speaker 2: going to be like so close and have this like
- 15:36Speaker 2: long like relationship.
- 15:37Speaker 7: You know what?
- 15:38Speaker 6: That's a really good question. She transferred from a different
- 15:42Speaker 6: school to our school, so she grew.
- 15:45Speaker 7: Up in Vegas as well.
- 15:46Speaker 6: I didn't actually know her when we like both gran
- 15:49Speaker 6: here and went to high school, but I think since
- 15:53Speaker 6: she transferred, she was kind of like newer and people
- 15:56Speaker 6: hadn't really gotten to know her.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Uh super well yet.
- 15:59Speaker 6: So I think I didn't realize at first how close
- 16:03Speaker 6: you would be, But like since then, I feel like
- 16:08Speaker 6: we've really stayed kind of inseparable.
- 16:11Speaker 2: Did you find any like similarities when you were like
- 16:14Speaker 2: going through picking people to be your bridesmaids, Like, did
- 16:18Speaker 2: it feel like big little at all, like when you
- 16:20Speaker 2: were like picking a big.
- 16:22Speaker 7: Yes, it actually totally did.
- 16:25Speaker 6: It's like I feel like what was important to me
- 16:28Speaker 6: was just kind of looking at my friends and being like, Okay,
- 16:32Speaker 6: who do I see myself you know, really still being
- 16:36Speaker 6: this close with in like ten years?
- 16:39Speaker 7: And that's so.
- 16:40Speaker 6: Hard to predict, I guess, but like I feel like
- 16:43Speaker 6: you're doing the same thing in big little. It's not
- 16:45Speaker 6: just like, Okay, who am I going to be friends
- 16:48Speaker 6: with for like just my four years in college? Like
- 16:51Speaker 6: who do I really see myself boning with forever? So yeah,
- 16:55Speaker 6: it was definitely a very similar thought process for sure.
- 16:59Speaker 6: Did you feel the same way.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I feel like it's the same. Like for me too,
- 17:04Speaker 2: I was like who, like have I been close with
- 17:07Speaker 2: for a really long time? And like who, like will
- 17:10Speaker 2: I be like close with? And also I kind of
- 17:14Speaker 2: looked at like not like the word too, but also
- 17:18Speaker 2: like who, like which of my friends are like close
- 17:21Speaker 2: with him? And like have always really like supported us
- 17:25Speaker 2: and stuff.
- 17:25Speaker 6: So that's kind of way right Because you want to
- 17:27Speaker 6: look back at pictures and be like I'm still friends
- 17:30Speaker 6: with this person, not like, oh I haven't talked to
- 17:33Speaker 6: them forever.
- 17:34Speaker 2: So yeah, I was.
- 17:36Speaker 7: It's definitely a big decision.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Definitely has planning your wedding like made you appreciate your
- 17:42Speaker 2: friendships in a different way, I think.
- 17:45Speaker 6: So, I think you kind of hear crazy stories, like
- 17:48Speaker 6: at least I do on TikTok. I'm like on bride
- 17:51Speaker 6: TikTok right now, so you get all of the crazy
- 17:53Speaker 6: stories of like my friends got jealous and whatever when
- 17:57Speaker 6: I was getting married. But I've had zero experiences like that.
- 18:01Speaker 6: I feel like all of my friends have just been
- 18:04Speaker 6: so supportive and like it's really important. I think I
- 18:09Speaker 6: kind of didn't realize how important it would be when
- 18:12Speaker 6: like planning your bachelorette, like you want to make sure
- 18:15Speaker 6: all of the girls really have your back.
- 18:17Speaker 7: So yeah, it's been fun.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Well I am so excited for you. Thank you so
- 18:21Speaker 2: much for coming on.
- 18:22Speaker 7: Thank you to congrats.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Thanks also bye bye. You have live on and live
- 18:45Speaker 2: Where do you go to school?
- 18:47Speaker 4: So?
- 18:47Speaker 1: I went to TCU, Texas Christian University, so in Fort Worth, Texas.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Yeah, you just graduated like a couple of years ago, right.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I graduated in twenty twenty four, so about like
- 19:01Speaker 1: two years ago now just two and a half kind
- 19:03Speaker 1: of crazy.
- 19:04Speaker 2: And are you still in touch with a lot of
- 19:06Speaker 2: your sorority sisters?
- 19:08Speaker 4: Yes, definitely.
- 19:09Speaker 1: I keep up with most of them honestly, whether it's
- 19:14Speaker 1: like social media, but also.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Just like in person.
- 19:17Speaker 1: We really like I feel like most of my college
- 19:20Speaker 1: friends see each other a lot, and also a lot
- 19:22Speaker 1: of us moved to the East Coast.
- 19:24Speaker 4: Yeah, so we all like keep in touch like pretty regularly.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Yeah, it does staying connected look for you, Like, do
- 19:32Speaker 2: you guys go on trips? Like is it the group
- 19:34Speaker 2: chat like FaceTime? Yeah?
- 19:36Speaker 4: I would say group chat is like number one.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Ye.
- 19:40Speaker 1: We like texting it all the time, so that's like
- 19:43Speaker 1: the most up to date way like day to day.
- 19:46Speaker 4: But also trips.
- 19:48Speaker 1: We've done a lot of different trips, like since I graduated,
- 19:51Speaker 1: like weekend trips to like the Jersey Shore. We've gone
- 19:54Speaker 1: back to Texas for like alumni weekend or someone's birthday,
- 19:59Speaker 1: like some of my friends are getting married now, So
- 20:01Speaker 1: there's like a lot.
- 20:02Speaker 2: Of different Yeah, a lot of different trips.
- 20:05Speaker 4: And like plans that we've done. But I feel like
- 20:09Speaker 4: texting is like the most.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Yeah, the most that we do. I feel like that's
- 20:15Speaker 2: like the easiest too, and it's like fun, yeah, all
- 20:18Speaker 2: throughout the day.
- 20:19Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Like I'm sitting at my desk at work
- 20:22Speaker 1: like texting in my group chat most of the day,
- 20:26Speaker 1: which is probably not great, but I feel like we're
- 20:30Speaker 1: all kind of we kind of do it to keep
- 20:31Speaker 1: each other sane and like it's a nice way to
- 20:33Speaker 1: just like keep each other updated, especially if for not
- 20:35Speaker 1: like in the same place, just with like random stuff
- 20:38Speaker 1: or even like sometimes my friends will go down a
- 20:40Speaker 1: rabbit hole of like sending old pictures from college, like
- 20:44Speaker 1: on a random Tuesday in the middle of the day,
- 20:47Speaker 1: which is the best.
- 20:49Speaker 2: It's so funny. We just had one of my like
- 20:51Speaker 2: best friends bachelorette like a couple months ago. Yeah, like
- 20:56Speaker 2: a video of like all of us in like our
- 20:59Speaker 2: pictures and videos, and it was so funny. Like going
- 21:02Speaker 2: back through college and like seeing I know, every.
- 21:05Speaker 1: It's the best, especially like freshman year because like most
- 21:08Speaker 1: of my friends were from like freshman year on and.
- 21:10Speaker 4: Like seeing myself freshman year. Yeah, it's a little scary,
- 21:15Speaker 4: but it's fun.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Yeah. Do you think like your friendships that have lasted
- 21:21Speaker 2: past like graduation are the ones you expected to last.
- 21:24Speaker 4: I would say it's a mix.
- 21:25Speaker 1: But for me, it was very much like I kept
- 21:29Speaker 1: closest to the people that I lived near, honestly just
- 21:33Speaker 1: because like I'm so busy and so not being like
- 21:36Speaker 1: in the same city obviously, like traveling to see each
- 21:40Speaker 1: other as just like another element.
- 21:42Speaker 4: But with that said, like the girls that don't.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Live in the same city as me that I expected
- 21:47Speaker 1: to like stay close with, I have, so like I
- 21:50Speaker 1: definitely knew who would last like after college versus who
- 21:54Speaker 1: was more of like maybe just a college friend or
- 21:57Speaker 1: like that I don't keep up with as much. Yeah,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but also for me, it kind of like it fluctuated
- 22:03Speaker 1: even throughout college. Like I feel like the girls that
- 22:07Speaker 1: I was like closest with at the end was like
- 22:09Speaker 1: different than freshman year. Like I was staying friends with
- 22:12Speaker 1: everybody because my so already were always doing stuff together.
- 22:15Speaker 1: But like it just kind of changed from like freshman
- 22:18Speaker 1: to senior year, and like those girls that I was
- 22:20Speaker 1: closest with senior year, like that stayed the same. Yeah.
- 22:25Speaker 4: So yeah, but like really like being in New York.
- 22:28Speaker 1: I live in New York, and like the girls that
- 22:31Speaker 1: live in New York or like nearby, like even Boston
- 22:34Speaker 1: or New Jersey or whatever, like those are the people
- 22:36Speaker 1: that are easiest to stay in touch with just because
- 22:38Speaker 1: we're close.
- 22:39Speaker 2: Is there something that you didn't appreciate or like you
- 22:43Speaker 2: didn't realize you would appreciate about sisterhood until like post grad.
- 22:50Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I didn't. I didn't even realize that.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Like I would say, I lived in the house. I
- 22:56Speaker 1: lived in the Zeta House, and that was like my
- 22:59Speaker 1: first time living with girls that like I genuinely loved
- 23:03Speaker 1: and like wanted to be around all the time. And
- 23:06Speaker 1: that like kind of prepped me for like I don't
- 23:09Speaker 1: have a sister, so I just have a brother, and
- 23:13Speaker 1: like my friends would always talk about like having sisters
- 23:16Speaker 1: and like bickering with them like one hour before and
- 23:20Speaker 1: then being like.
- 23:20Speaker 4: Totally fine the next hour. Like that type of environment when.
- 23:24Speaker 1: I lived in the Zeta House was like the first,
- 23:28Speaker 1: like my first experience with like, oh, this is what
- 23:30Speaker 1: it's like having a sister. Like you're sharing a room
- 23:33Speaker 1: with someone or in my case, like I shared you know,
- 23:35Speaker 1: we were on the same floor as girls, but like
- 23:37Speaker 1: in each other's like rooms till late at night, like
- 23:40Speaker 1: maybe arguing over like stupid stuff.
- 23:43Speaker 4: But then the next day, like we're going to a
- 23:45Speaker 4: party together, we're like waking up walking to class like whatever.
- 23:49Speaker 1: So like that actual idea of having a sister, like
- 23:52Speaker 1: I knew nothing about really. I mean, I also danced
- 23:58Speaker 1: growing up, and I think that that is like a
- 24:00Speaker 1: different like type of sisterhood, if you will, almost more
- 24:05Speaker 1: like trauma bonded maybe, but like it was a different
- 24:08Speaker 1: it was a different type of sisterhood, like getting into
- 24:11Speaker 1: college and like having sorority sisters that like you kind
- 24:15Speaker 1: of depend on for everything you.
- 24:16Speaker 4: Don't have your family.
- 24:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Yeah, that really like just shape my like overall understanding
- 24:24Speaker 1: of like friendships that do feel like sisters versus like
- 24:28Speaker 1: friendships that are maybe a little more.
- 24:29Speaker 4: Like superficial or just like come and go.
- 24:33Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 24:34Speaker 1: So I feel like now when I choose my friends
- 24:36Speaker 1: or I guess like make friends or whatever, I'm always
- 24:39Speaker 1: comparing it to like the girls that I already have
- 24:41Speaker 1: in my life that like do feel like sisters.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Definitely, especially in people that yeah, you feel so close
- 24:49Speaker 2: to and that you've made those great relationships with.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Yeah it is, And like, honestly, it's been really nice
- 24:55Speaker 1: because even through like college, I like, I like went
- 25:00Speaker 1: like I went out of state technically, so I wasn't
- 25:03Speaker 1: like somebody that got super homesick, but still like not
- 25:06Speaker 1: being near your family, like a lot of other people
- 25:08Speaker 1: didn't have that experience, And for me, like having really
- 25:11Speaker 1: close friends throughout college and then now also not living
- 25:14Speaker 1: near home, it's kind of like carried me through.
- 25:18Speaker 4: In a way that like I don't even realize sometimes.
- 25:21Speaker 2: But yeah, I know that's so important, especially when you
- 25:24Speaker 2: aren't like when you're away from home. It's such a
- 25:28Speaker 2: different experience like than anything I had ever experienced before.
- 25:34Speaker 2: And I'm so grateful for the friends that I've had,
- 25:38Speaker 2: like since being in college and being like now I'm
- 25:42Speaker 2: like way out of it, but it like it's just
- 25:46Speaker 2: so fun and it's so amazing to like have those
- 25:48Speaker 2: people that you hold so close to yourself.
- 25:52Speaker 4: Yeah, no, it's special for sure.
- 25:54Speaker 2: Do you have any advice for girls that are graduating
- 25:59Speaker 2: that want keep those friendships close?
- 26:03Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I feel like being intentional with your friends,
- 26:08Speaker 1: and like you were saying before, like the friendships that
- 26:11Speaker 1: I knew would like carry outside of college, like I
- 26:15Speaker 1: had to make like a very like direct effort with
- 26:19Speaker 1: those people to like make sure that like we stayed
- 26:22Speaker 1: close and stayed in touch, and like that comes down
- 26:25Speaker 1: to like little things. I feel like right when my
- 26:28Speaker 1: friends like started their jobs, like I was always.
- 26:30Speaker 4: Like checking in and like asking intentional.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Questions or like wanting to like hang out after I
- 26:37Speaker 1: knew they had like a big first day or something
- 26:39Speaker 1: like that, and like setting aside like genuine time for
- 26:42Speaker 1: your friends. And another thing is like for me, at
- 26:46Speaker 1: least in college, I felt like immense pressure to like
- 26:50Speaker 1: include all my friends all the time and like be
- 26:53Speaker 1: surrounded by like hundreds of friends, like for every like
- 26:58Speaker 1: oh pregame, like I have to invite one hundred people,
- 27:01Speaker 1: and like everybody has to be.
- 27:02Speaker 4: Included, And not that you can't include.
- 27:05Speaker 1: Everybody necessarily, but like surround yourself with like who you
- 27:09Speaker 1: genuinely like want to spend time with and like want
- 27:12Speaker 1: to be friends with, and who puts in like the
- 27:14Speaker 1: same effort to your friendships, because you'll start like to
- 27:19Speaker 1: notice postcrid like, oh, you know, maybe they're not like
- 27:22Speaker 1: reaching out as much or asking me like questions that
- 27:26Speaker 1: I would maybe ask them or whatever, and like there's
- 27:28Speaker 1: nothing wrong with that, honestly, Like sometimes you just like
- 27:31Speaker 1: grow a part or you like grow out of friendships
- 27:33Speaker 1: and that's like totally okay, So like being okay with
- 27:36Speaker 1: that and like focusing on like a specific group of
- 27:39Speaker 1: people or a person or whatever that is for you
- 27:41Speaker 1: that like you know, you want to have in your
- 27:44Speaker 1: life forever, but it's it becomes you don't want it
- 27:47Speaker 1: to become like a task necessarily, but like you do
- 27:50Speaker 1: have like you have to make an effort, more of
- 27:52Speaker 1: an effort that you did in college, because in college
- 27:55Speaker 1: you would just be walking past each other going to
- 27:58Speaker 1: class or at the same party or like you're put
- 28:00Speaker 1: in environments where you are always with people. So POSTCRAD,
- 28:05Speaker 1: you don't have that situation. And I've definitely found that,
- 28:10Speaker 1: like my my strongest friendships and the ones that have
- 28:13Speaker 1: like really lasted, especially from college, have been the ones
- 28:16Speaker 1: that I've put like the most effort into.
- 28:18Speaker 4: So I feel like those are like those are really
- 28:22Speaker 4: the things.
- 28:22Speaker 1: And just also like not not being afraid to, like
- 28:27Speaker 1: if you don't maybe like hear from someone or talk
- 28:31Speaker 1: to them for a long time, like being okay with
- 28:34Speaker 1: like reconnecting and literally like calling them on the phone
- 28:36Speaker 1: and like having long conversation and like catching up yeah,
- 28:39Speaker 1: and like letting that be your ketch up to like
- 28:43Speaker 1: you know, say hey, like oh we you know, reconnected
- 28:46Speaker 1: or whatever. Like it just seems weird because I feel
- 28:49Speaker 1: like in college, like I was just so like kept
- 28:51Speaker 1: up with everybody at all, like at all times.
- 28:53Speaker 4: But you can't do that now and.
- 28:55Speaker 1: You don't have that ability, Like, especially if you're not
- 28:59Speaker 1: living in the same place is your friend, You're not
- 29:01Speaker 1: going to know what they're doing on a day to
- 29:02Speaker 1: day basis, Like you can't even guess what they're doing.
- 29:04Speaker 1: They're living in a completely different place. Like you're going
- 29:07Speaker 1: to have to ask questions, They're going to have to
- 29:10Speaker 1: tell you things like.
- 29:11Speaker 4: You might miss like a huge life moment for them,
- 29:14Speaker 4: like going on a date with a guy or something
- 29:16Speaker 4: like that.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Like I know, me and my friends have like been
- 29:19Speaker 1: in situations where there's like someone that lives in Texas
- 29:22Speaker 1: and we're in New York and they like will Texas
- 29:24Speaker 1: and be like, guys like I went on two dates
- 29:26Speaker 1: with this guy and like he's so great and we're like,
- 29:28Speaker 1: oh my god, we didn't know you were like going
- 29:31Speaker 1: on dates with someone.
- 29:32Speaker 4: She was like, well, I went to like on two
- 29:34Speaker 4: days with him.
- 29:34Speaker 1: This week and I haven't talked to you, and it's
- 29:36Speaker 1: like that's that's okay, Like it's okay to like be
- 29:39Speaker 1: able to catch up and like reconnect or like figure
- 29:43Speaker 1: out like a different way of how your friendships get
- 29:45Speaker 1: a function and like still stay like stay close, but
- 29:50Speaker 1: it's all just like a learning and you really like
- 29:52Speaker 1: are able to kind of just figure out like your
- 29:55Speaker 1: true like lifelong friends are postgrad pretty quickly too, which
- 30:00Speaker 1: I think it's a good thing.
- 30:02Speaker 2: Oh, it for sure is well, that was all great advice.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Thank you so much for coming on. It was great
- 30:09Speaker 2: chatting with you.
