Speaker 1: With every excuse in the world.
• 0:03
Speaker 1: Who would have blamed him?
• 0:04
Speaker 1: Yaisev had sadek, betrayed by his family, sent to the slums of Manhattan.
• 0:08
Speaker 1: Now, with a tremendous nisayun in front of him, with Ashes' Puy-Tee-Fire's advances, yaisev's response is Vayi ma'en, in fact, actually.
• 0:18
Speaker 1: Well, that word actually means, and I will not Vayi ma'en, no, vayi ma'en, not today, vayi ma'en Never, no.
• 0:24
Speaker 1: And a lot of times I would battle with the Eitzahara.
• 0:27
Speaker 1: If you're a good point, say I must begin first with a no before you start to get into a back and forth.
• 0:33
Speaker 1: But there's an interesting trope on the word Vayi ma'en in the Nefeshah.
• 0:35
Speaker 1: Chayim Shahr Baiz and Chayim Balazim tells us that the trope, the cantalation marks, imply subtle ideas to amen certain flavors to the story.
• 0:46
Speaker 1: And the trope is the Chalchelis.
• 0:47
Speaker 1: It's this lightning bolt, it's this zigzag line above the word and it's only used four times, to my knowledge, throughout the five books of Moses.
• 0:54
Speaker 1: And the question is, what does the Chalchelis trope imply?
• 0:58
Speaker 1: Now, according to the contemporary and more common approach, the Chalchelis implies a chain.
• 1:06
Speaker 1: That's what it means, a link which is probably to understand and means to tell us that Yais Yvettezadek, he saw the visage of his father in the window as the Gamaransite to Tel Azad, and he remembered there's this link, there's this chain back to Harsinan.
• 1:23
Speaker 1: And how could I sin?
• 1:24
Speaker 1: I stand to lose so much.
• 1:26
Speaker 1: So therefore, chalchelis implies this subtle flavor of how he overcame this nesayn.
• 1:32
Speaker 1: But when you look a little bit deeper into what a Chalchelis means, there's much literature in, specifically from Reb Yehuda ibn Kasb, born in 1280, who tells us that it actually implies uncertainty.
• 1:47
Speaker 1: A Chalchelis means I don't know, I'm not sure, but I thought this is my own insight or suggestion, not sourced, but that's even more inspiring.
• 1:57
Speaker 1: Yais Yvettezadek uncertain till the very end, according to one approach, ma'a'aqlaika's raven shmuel.
• 2:03
Speaker 1: On that day, vayoyaymahu.
• 2:04
Speaker 1: On that day, he went in, he was gonna sin, he couldn't fight it anymore.
• 2:07
Speaker 1: And this trope implies the same thing.
• 2:09
Speaker 1: He wasn't sure, he was just worn out.
• 2:11
Speaker 1: Vaymoe, he has a different flavor now.
• 2:15
  Speaker 1: He's not sure.
• 2:16
  Speaker 1: Should he sin?
• 2:16
Speaker 1: Vayonas, vayoyaytayahuta, he still runs out.
• 2:19
Speaker 1: Sin till the last moment, until the sword is on your throat, until, god forbid, a sin's about to take place.
• 2:27
Speaker 1: Still, you can still run away, even if you've been onshore and it's almost the time of the sin.
• 2:31
Speaker 1: No, vaymo'ayn, run away.
• 2:39
Speaker 1: The Yo-Safe problem had now been extinguished.
• 2:41
Speaker 1: He had been thrown into the pit and now the brother can sit down for a bite to eat when they notice a caravan of Yishma'ilim coming from the distance.
• 2:48
Speaker 1: B'ami Gilad and the Tyre tells us Vigamalayim and their camels were carrying N'I'chat, vitsare, velat, carrying these spices, these balm and ladamum and gum.
• 2:59
Speaker 1: Why do we need to know this seemingly extra detail?
• 3:03
Speaker 1: Rashi picks up a name.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: Rashi tells us this is to tell you Lama Piersomakosov, to tell you that this is the maton scharen shaltzadikim.
• 3:11
Speaker 1: This is the reward for the righteous She'e'indarcha.
• 3:14
Speaker 1: This is not normal that the Yishma'ilim are carrying these good-smelling spices.
• 3:18
Speaker 1: They normally carry tar and things that don't smell very good, that smell bad.
• 3:22
Speaker 1: Wulizend is damna basamaim and that this is from heaven.
• 3:26
Speaker 1: Shlo yuzak meryachara, because Hashem didn't want Yo-Safe to be bothered, to be harmed by bad smells.
• 3:33
  Speaker 1: Now, rabim tamuim.
• 3:34
Speaker 1: People ask, everyone asks this good smells.
• 3:39
Speaker 1: This is gonna make things better.
• 3:41
Speaker 1: This is where we can learn the maton scharen shaltzadikim.
• 3:44
Speaker 1: You've been locked in jail Wrongly, you didn't even do anything and now you're stuck there.
• 3:49
Speaker 1: But then you come down to lunch and say, oh wow, good lunch here in jail.
• 3:52
Speaker 1: No, things are melting for Yishaf, but we care about the good smells and here are so many good.
• 3:58
Speaker 1: Beautiful shaltim, according to the Yishmahalik, comes to be.
• 4:01
Speaker 1: In Kelm they said from here that you see that Hashem, even when he gives judgment, it's exacting.
• 4:08
Speaker 1: It's not a step more than it needs to be.
• 4:11
Speaker 1: A person should be mechuzak.
• 4:13
Speaker 1: You should be inspired that, even though this isn't going well for me, it's not a step more.
• 4:17
Speaker 1: Hashem still only gives out exactly the right amount.
• 4:19
Speaker 1: In Flabalka they said look what a person can accomplish, look, you can be a tzadik, and Hashem takes care of you, even in the darkest places.
• 4:27
Speaker 1: Look how great it is and how great we can become.
• 4:29
Speaker 1: In the Vardik they said nebukh, even when we're great, still sometimes we're pulled.
• 4:34
Speaker 1: After taivas, ayel mazayah, we're pulled after.
• 4:36
Speaker 1: We still want the good smells.
• 4:37
Speaker 1: And in Mir they said look, this is Hashem, this is Tati taking care of me, even though everything is falling apart, but clearly Hashem's running the world.
• 4:46
Speaker 1: In Brisk they said well, it smells good, so now I can learn.
• 4:50
Speaker 1: It would have been ushered to learn.
• 4:51
Speaker 1: And lulay sayur, askha, shashuah zavadati.
• 4:55
Speaker 1: Without the Tyra, what's going to be?
• 4:57
Speaker 1: I need the Tyra.
• 4:58
Speaker 1: Now it smells good, at least I can learn.
• 4:59
Speaker 1: In the Chassidim they learned from this Rashi that good smells are ruchnius, we know, like from the Summonmon, motsay Shabbos, and even though the Ghashmius was falling apart, the ruchnius was still there.
• 5:12
