- 0:00Aloha. Saturday morning. Steady trade winds through next week, showers favor windward slopes overnight, and Tropical Storm Lowell is spinning up far offshore — we're tracking it, but its path toward Hawaiʻi is still very uncertain.
- 1:41Today stays dry on the leeward side — that's where you want to be if you're heading out. Windward areas will catch scattered showers mostly between late evening and early morning, but afternoons should clear. Humidity's comfortable, and the trade winds are moderate to strong. If you're on the Big Island or Maui, there's a Small Craft Advisory through at least tomorrow.
- 1:59Oʻahu's south shore and Kauaʻi are running 4.3 feet with moderate surf, shore break, and rip currents — watch your swimming. The north shore is smaller at 3.7 feet, comfortable for most. Maui's at 3.2 feet, the Big Island is glass-calm at 1.4 feet. A south swell builds starting Tuesday and peaks Wednesday with potentially high surf — good for experienced surfers, rough for casual swimmers.
- 2:19Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park is mostly open, though the Kahuku Unit stays closed and Sulphur Banks Bridge is off-limits — the boardwalk is accessible. Volcanic ash is a caution in certain areas, so check conditions before you head out.
- 2:31If you're on the Big Island today, this is your last day of county services at Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach Park. Our new piece on Punaluʻu breaks down what's closing, what stays open, and how to plan if you were thinking of stopping by. The park has been a popular spot for decades, and the transition is worth understanding if that's part of your trip.
- 2:48Through the week, expect those trade winds to stay steady and the south swell to build. Wednesday looks like the peak day for experienced surfers, but conditions stay breezy across all the islands through next weekend.
- 2:59If Punaluʻu is on your radar, the full piece is on the site. Talk to you in the morning.
