- 2:54some stuff she's taken care of in her personal life. She will return next
- 2:59week. However, I will say that we do have our pet of the
- 3:01week, and I posted it as always on my social media, Dave Allen
- 3:06Radio on Facebook and the Dave Alan Show on X. The artists will be
- 3:09known as Twitter. It is Dolly, and I'm gonna go ahead and bring
- 3:14in my first guest now, Kate White, because she's gonna help me.
- 3:17You didn't know you're going to do this, did you, Kate? I
- 3:19did it all right. So Dolly is the dog's name. Picture posted as
- 3:24I said on the socials around forty pounds. Dolly is female, probably should
- 3:30be the only pets great with kids, I'm told great with kids, loves
- 3:37being around people, just not so much pets. Can you relate to an
- 3:39animal like that? K Do you have animals in your personal life? I
- 3:43have a thirteen year old dog who is still pretty friendly with other animals,
- 3:46but she's getting a little crinky sometimes. Well don't we all? I used
- 3:50to be friendly with people too until I started so got my fifties and I
- 3:53am not so much. She puts them on their place. So Dolly is
- 3:58the dog's name around forty pounds, housebroken, does well in a car,
- 4:01does well on a leash, knows how to sit, knows how to shake
- 4:08very the ears are very cute. And if you want to see the picture
- 4:12you can again go to my social media. I've got Dolly's picture post.
- 4:15Dolly would be a great pet. I'm gonna I'm gonna put you to work
- 4:17here. As I said, Kate, tell the people why why they should
- 4:21consider adopting Dolly. Well, Dolly looks adorable. She's got these really perky
- 4:26years and looks very happy. And you know, there's just nothing like the
- 4:29love of a dog, a dog curling up by you, or pet and
- 4:31a dog. It always calms me down and makes me feel like everything's gonna
- 4:34be okay. So I think Dolly really needs home. Yeah, indeed.
- 4:38All right, So there you go, Dolly's picture again posted on the social
- 4:42media and my social media Dave alland Radio Facebook of a Day Allen Show on
- 4:45x and we'll have had it back with us next week. But go and
- 4:47get Dolly. Let's talk to Kate White now again Knawha County Board of Education
- 4:53member, and would like to be elected at that position because you were appointed.
- 4:58So we'll get in that story a little bit later on give us the
- 5:00bio though on Kate White, Sure, sure, I'm a West Virginia born
- 5:03and raised. I'm from Elkins and Randolf County, lived there my whole life.
- 5:08Went to college in Pittsburgh. Didn't go to pitt w W fans don't
- 5:13hate me here, Yeah, yes, I did not. I went to
- 5:15Carnadie Mellen. I did not go to pitt I did not go to but
- 5:19came back to West Virginia after that and went to law school at WVU and
- 5:24have lived in Charleston for about seventeen years now, so it's home. Lived
- 5:28here almost as long as I lived in Elkins. So you were appointed to
- 5:31the board replacing your husband, right, Ryan, who was And I had
- 5:35Ryan on the show earlier this week because he's running for the state Intermediate Court
- 5:39of Appeals. You were appointed to that position. I guess you guys are
- 5:42pretty busy in your household, right, It's been a very very busy spring.
- 5:46We've got three kids who are very busy in sports and music, and
- 5:49they're in school. So yes, we have been juggling a lot of friends
- 5:54have been helping in family, and we're really appreciative. But it's also been
- 5:57great for our kids to see both of us out there, and I'm proud
- 5:59of that. They're engaged, they want to help us. They've been waving
- 6:01signs, they've been you know, talking to friends, and so it's been
- 6:05fun for them. I would talk to you about that because off the air
- 6:08you were telling me that you had one of your kids out there sign waving
- 6:11with you. But I'll tell the inside story here. You said that you
- 6:14had them sign waving I guess in front of which donut shopping canosity. Yeah,
- 6:17and they were out there sign waving, and that they were apparently more
- 6:21interested in the donut than they were the sign waving. Correct. Correct.
- 6:25We had to take a bathroom break and we ran and grabbed some donuts,
- 6:28and she sat in the minivan while I waved some signs donuts. So why
- 6:32did you consider being appointed to the board in the first place, because,
- 6:36I mean, you didn't have to, weren't in ordered to be there.
- 6:39You decide what was it about the Board of Education in that position that appealed
- 6:43to you. Sure, Well, you know, I've got three kids in
- 6:46school, and so I have also been really involved in my kids' schools.
- 6:49So I see every day, you know, what they're going through, what
- 6:53the teachers are going through, And for me, education is one of the
- 6:57most fundamental things that we can do for our state to help our kids,
- 7:00to give them a solid foundation. And so just felt like, you know,
- 7:03having seen what Ryan went through and the experience, is that there's just
- 7:06a huge chance to be a voice for the community, to you know,
- 7:10relay as a parent, what do we see, what's happening with schools,
- 7:13to relate what we hear from from folks, so be a conduit to the
- 7:16superintendent and the administration. And so I just felt like I really wanted to
- 7:20be a part of that and felt like I could bring a lot to the
- 7:23table. And so, what have you learned in that position so far?
- 7:29Because I anytime, you know, you think you no till you get there
- 7:31in any office, not necessarily you what what did you learn? Sure,
- 7:35I think people don't understand it, and you know, I had a little
- 7:39background in it, but didn't fully understand the role of the board and a
- 7:43good bit of the day to day decisions really are made by the superintendent and
- 7:46the folks who work with the superintendent and the board's role is to oversee that
- 7:51to make sure that things are happening. You know that the law says needs
- 7:55to happen. There's a lot of law and procedure that goes through that process.
- 8:01We had to go through personal hearings, which was very challenging and hard,
- 8:03and you know, funding is just a major issue for the education system.
- 8:07So that's been a big eye opener for me seeing what that looks like,
- 8:11what the budget looks like, what the impact of you know, losing
- 8:15students is, and how that impacts the number of teachers we can have,
- 8:18the money we have for facilities, that kind of thing. Talk about the
- 8:22challenges better and you kind of touched on a little bit from the challenge to
- 8:24facing public schools today, right. I mean, the declining student population in
- 8:28Kennack County is a huge issue because it absolutely impacts are funding and so how
- 8:33do we still make sure that we're meeting the needs of all of our students
- 8:37and we're supporting our teachers and paying them what we should be paying them with
- 8:41less money. It's it's very hard and so that is a big, big
- 8:43issue. Attendance is a big issue, and student behavior are things that I
- 8:48think we've really got to get a handle on because after COVID, there's just
- 8:52been so many things come to light, and so those are things I care
- 8:54very passionately about and want to work if I'm elected to stay on the school
- 8:58board to help the school system try to figure that out. Taro Ka White
- 9:03again, who has been appointed to the Canaw County Board of Education and she
- 9:07is now running for that position. The Day Violance Show in five eighty Live

- 9:31Talk about the campaign, I know there was a form. I think
- 9:33there was only was there only one one form held for for BOE candidates?
- 9:37There was one, just one for Board of Education candis there have been others
- 9:41with other candidates, right well to talk about the campaign. Sure, Yeah,
- 9:43it's been really fun to get out there to meet people, to get
- 9:46to meet the other candidates running for board, to meet other candidates running for
- 9:50other offices. To listen, you know, I think that's important being a
- 9:56board member is to listen to you know, parents, to listen to teachers,
- 9:58to the concerns that folks have. So I've really appreciated that, and
- 10:03I think as an attorney, that's something that pretty skilled at. It's something
- 10:05we're trained to do, is kind of listen and think about solutions and try
- 10:09to work through them. So I've enjoyed that. I've enjoyed getting to meet
- 10:13people and getting out there. It's not something I ever thought I would do.
- 10:16But I'm proud of myself for put myself out there and have a ton
- 10:18of respect for other candidates and people who run for office. After having gone
- 10:22through this, and of course being a board member in the state's largest county,
- 10:26it's a little bit different. I mean, with all due respect to
- 10:28all board members across the state of West Virginia across the country, a little
- 10:31bit different being one here in Knawa County because one of the things I talked
- 10:33about with Canawa County is no matter what the candidate is, it is kind
- 10:37of a diverse county, meaning that you know, what Saint Albans is going
- 10:41through may not be the same as what Cistonville is going through. And I
- 10:43use that as an example, and I would imagine that it's the same when
- 10:46you're when you're dealing with the public schools. You know, a GW may
- 10:50not be the same as a Riverside and it's it's just because they're different,
- 10:54very much so, and the needs of elementary, middle and high school are
- 10:58very different. But I've seen that, you know, the eastern part of
- 11:01the county has different issues, very much so than downtown Charleston schools. And
- 11:05so it's a challenge to try to meet all of those needs and get the
- 11:09support that you know, every school needs and wants. But I definitely want
- 11:13to make sure that we do that and then we're listening because again, we
- 11:16can't. You know, there are some things we have to do across the
- 11:18county, right but as much as we can give local control schools to principles
- 11:24to do what's best for them. I'm very supportive of that. We can't
- 11:26always, but as much as we can, I think that matters because they
- 11:30know what their needs are and they're very different across the county. You have
- 11:33a website or social medium that you like to have a Facebook page, It's
- 11:37Kate White for Kanall County Board of Education. So if you look me up
- 11:41there, I've got some information about you know, just what I think and
- 11:43what I care about and what I've been doing. I mean, the final
- 11:46thirty. Why should someone vote for Kate White for candidate for the Canawa County
- 11:50Board of Education. Sure. Well, I've very much appreciated the opportunity just
- 11:54these past few months to serve as a member, and I think it's important
- 11:58to have parents it's on the board who have kids in school. I have
- 12:01a seventh grader next year who will be a rising seventh grader, and one
- 12:05that'll start kindergarten. So I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. We're going
- 12:09to be involved in the schools whatever happens, no matter what, because it's
- 12:11something I care passionately about. As an attorney, I work with folks in
- 12:16the community. You know, I understand what families are going through and I
- 12:18want to make sure the county is doing everything we can to support students because
- 12:22what's happening to them, unfortunately outside of the school does impact what's happening in
- 12:26school, you know, with attendance, making sure we've got counselors support for
- 12:30them so that kids can be at school and focused on school, which is
- 12:33really what we need them to do. And you know, I'm just someone
- 12:35who believes in listening and so I want to hear from folks. I want
- 12:39to hear your ideas and suggestions and then be a conduit to the superintendent administration
- 12:43about you know, how they think we can improve what we're doing. Okay,
- 12:46why current remember the canak Addy Board of Education running for reelection. I

- 17:10man, how are you? I'm wonderful and I love the Special Olympics.
- 17:14It's one of my favorite things that we've ever volunteered for. You've never been
- 17:18go You get to see a level of unbridled joy that's hard to find anywhere
- 17:22else in this world. So we're just a couple of days left, yep
- 17:27for we got early voting. Of course, we have regular voting. If
- 17:30you have early voting going on to day tomorrow days. But who's counting Election
- 17:33Day? Have you counteddate down? Election Day is on Tuesday. Polls open
- 17:37six thirty am to seven thirty pm. Does it me or just seem like
- 17:41this campaign has been going on since like nineteen seventy three, so I think
- 17:45what you're talking The answer to your question is yes, And I'm not the
- 17:48one like you. Folks are out driving all over the state, so I
- 17:52mean, I'm not going to get the sympathy from you. The starting line
- 17:55has moved back and what used to be one hundred yard dash is now for
- 18:00four hundred, so it's a much longer campaign season. It's a slog.
- 18:06It's crazy hard for people with young families like me, you know, puts
- 18:08an enormous burden on my wife, who's just the absolute best just making sure
- 18:15that everything's taken care of, not just with our business but with our family,
- 18:18because I have to spend so much time in my district, and my
- 18:22district is all fifty five counties. Have you been surprised by the level of
- 18:29nasty in this campaign? So, I'm never It's hard to be surprised by
- 18:33anything in politics anymore. But I am surprised by the amount of money,
- 18:40and I am surprised by the vitrol. I knew that there was going to
- 18:45be a lot of negativity in the election this year, but it is it
- 18:49seems it seems to have reached sort of a crescendo here that is higher than
- 18:55we've ever seen before, honey. And I'm not just necessarily talking about your
- 18:59race, I'm just talking about races in general. Yeah, how did we
- 19:04get here? Why are we here? So I'll tell you, we're very,
- 19:07very proud to have run a one hundred percent positive campaign. We have
- 19:11a record, a conservative record that we are proud to run on. We
- 19:15have a level of results being a statewide elected official, be in the auditor
- 19:19for the last seven years, and we're proud to talk about me. I
- 19:22don't. I don't feel the need to talk about anybody else but myself.
- 19:26But how did we get here? I think there's a negative feedback loop between
- 19:30national politics and consultants, and I think that there's a lot of people who
- 19:36are afraid to try to change the dynamic, and there's sort of a you
- 19:40know, a running strategy that you know, you tear down and build up.
- 19:44And I think that the American public at some point is going to say
- 19:48enough of this. And the people who are willing to step outside the traditional
- 19:52box of campaigning and say we're going to do it a new way. It
- 19:56might not work at first, I'm very hopeful that it works in my race,
- 20:00and I hope that that people see that. But I think that that
- 20:04there's going to be a new kind of candidate throughout this country that is able
- 20:11to transcend the negativity and really inspire people with messages of change and messages of
- 20:18conservatism that motivate people to vote for something. But Dave Alan Chowing five any

- 20:37this weekend? Heading into the end of the final day, So hopefully I'll
- 20:41catch a couple hours of sleep that's been pretty pretty hard to come by.
- 20:45We on Monday. We started in Shepherdstown and ended in Huntington and middled and
- 20:49Wheeling. And if you've never if you've never done a three stop campaign tour
- 20:53in one day from Shepherdstown to Wheeling to Huntington, you haven't lived. And
- 20:57we've been all over the place. We've been in Jefferson and Berkeley and Ohio
- 21:02and Cabull and Putnam and kanaw We've been in Logan and Boone, We've been
- 21:07in Greenbrier, We've been in Wood County, We've been in Jackson County,
- 21:11and you know, the next four days it's just more of the same.
- 21:15It is its events, meeting voters, inspiring voters, encouraging people to vote,
- 21:21and really, at the end of this campaign, as we look forward
- 21:23to a big victory on Tuesday, it's a continuation of listening to stakeholders about
- 21:29what are the biggest problems in West Virginia. Just yesterday, we spent an
- 21:32hour and a half torn a child care facility in Parkersburg, talking to the
- 21:36director of that facility along with others, about this incredible lack of options for
- 21:41young parents for childcare in West Virginia. And it truly is one of our
- 21:45biggest It's an impediment both to our early public school education and it's an impediment
- 21:52to our workforce. And I think it's going to be incumbent upon me and
- 21:56the next governor and the next legislature to tackle this head on. We have
- 22:00somewhere in the neighborhood of seventeen thousand families in West Virginia who don't have access
- 22:03to childcare that they either can find or that they can afford. And what
- 22:07that does is it takes people out of the workforce, and in a lot
- 22:11of situations where parents are struggling, it makes it very very hard for particularly
- 22:18young kids three and four year olds to get the early childhood education they need
- 22:23to be successful kindergarteners. When you are out and about and you and your
- 22:30opponent, Mike Sort, I think would both agree that I've heard either one
- 22:33of you say anything necessarily negative about the current Attorney General Patrick Morrissey. I
- 22:37think you're both on the same page that do you think he's done a good
- 22:38job as Attorney general? What do you hear from people about the job that
- 22:42mister Morrisey's done, and what are they saying? What are they asking of
- 22:47you? Most people are asking me to make sure that we continue to have
- 22:52a leadership role in this country in defending the values of Appalachians. And what
- 22:57that means is is there are people around this country that are similarly situated to
- 23:02West Virginia's. People that live in states that depend on natural resources, people
- 23:04that live in states that believe in religious freedom, people that believe that our
- 23:08churches, who are all organized as five oh one c threes, have the
- 23:12ability to speak freely about why and which candidate they want to support. People
- 23:18that believe in the Second Amendment, people believe in being pro life. And
- 23:22what Attorney General Morrissey has done is become our country's leader in defending that value
- 23:29set. And I think why that matters is that the woke left has waged
- 23:36war on places like this and it would be in their best interest. And
- 23:40the thing that we have to defend the most is to make sure that we
- 23:42are unsuccessful. And you know, people can say, oh, that's just
- 23:45a talking point, Well it's not just last week. The Biden administration is
- 23:52showing their hand and trying to deliver a death blow to our coal industry.
- 23:56And every single time that they have the opportunity to make West Virginia successful,
- 24:02they go the other way. And you can see that. Just think about
- 24:06this. The Biden administration is trying to make sure that every American has to
- 24:11drive an electric car by twenty forty. If they were to have come to
- 24:15West Virginia and said, all right, we're going to have one hundred million
- 24:18new electric cars on the road. We want you to be the nation's battery.
- 24:22We want you to build three new gas fired power plans and two new
- 24:25coal fired power plants, and we want West Virginia to be the deliverer of
- 24:30the electricity that charges the new car. Then that's a partnership. Then they're
- 24:34saying, we believe in West Virginia, we understand your economy, we want
- 24:38the people of West Virginia to be wildly successful. And then there's a partnership.
- 24:44Then you're saying, both of these things have a place in our economy.
- 24:45But they didn't do that. They tried to kill the coal industry,
- 24:48tried to kill the gas industry at the same time they're shoving these cars down.
- 24:53And so it's just so evident to me that when a very obvious opportunity
- 24:59was present to them for us to be a part of the new economy,
- 25:02they said, nope, we just want you to drive our cars and not
- 25:07have a job. And it's just so obvious to me that we have a
- 25:11real battle for the soul of what this country is about. And I don't
- 25:18mind that people live in other places than West Virginia, and I don't even
- 25:21mind disagreeing with them about politics, but I do mind when they seek to
- 25:26destroy the very things that make West Virginia great. And for me, being
- 25:30Attorney General would be the greatest honor of my life because I would be defending
- 25:37the things that I love the most, and that is the people and the
- 25:40values of West Virginia. Well, best ill luck to you in the campaign
- 25:42trail the next couple days. Now, have you early voted or you're an
- 25:45election day? We are an election day family. I don't know whether there's
- 25:48schedule for you Canada, so would allow you to do that? So we
- 25:51have a my wife and I have a routine. We like to watch the
- 25:55movie The Campaign on election Day with Will Ferrell. It it brings a little
- 26:00levity to what is a generally stressful day. And we really like to take
- 26:03our kids with us to vote. You know, they know all the pole
- 26:07workers. Now we know all the poll workers, and just them going in
- 26:10and seeing the process I think is very very important. Our daughters are nine
- 26:14and six and uh and I'll brag a little bit on my on my daughter,
- 26:18she is the president of her third grade class. Holds elementary school starts
- 26:22early and when the teacher called and said that she had won it. I
- 26:26assume that's what it felt like when Michael Jordans saw his kid make a jump
- 26:30shot or Tiger Woods make a put or something like that. But the I'm
- 26:33very prideful of my children's activities, but watching my kid when an election was
- 26:37really something. Let me ask you about this and then we'll let you go.
- 26:38Okay. So, as somebody who's been around politics here for a long
- 26:41long time and its spent, you know, most of your adult life in
- 26:45one way or the other around politics, if you were if your child,
- 26:48if your daughter, if she said this is what and I know it's very
- 26:52early, but she decided this is what I want to do. Would it
- 26:53be something that you'd like for her to do or I it as long as
- 26:57she's doing it. To be a public servant, there is absolutely nothing in
- 27:02my life that would make me prouder than if my daughter said I want to
- 27:06make sure that the people that live on either side of me are more successful
- 27:08tomorrow than they are today. The entire idea of public service is to write,
- 27:14to bring up the people around you, to make sure that everybody else
- 27:18in West Virginia has a better chance at being more successful than they are today,
- 27:23and that is that's what service is about. I got to listen to
- 27:26Tim Tebow the other night at the West Virginians for Life dinner, and he
- 27:30delivered an incredible speech, and the thing that he talked the most about was
- 27:36that the word passion gets sort of misused, and passion was a word that
- 27:40was invented to describe essentially Jesus's level of service to the world. And there
- 27:48is no other way to describe what it means to be passionate in your service.
- 27:53And so if we are working as hard as we can to make sure
- 27:59that our children grow up in a way that they see their role in the
- 28:03world as to make sure that everyone else has a better life, and I'm
- 28:08certain that she'll be that way. And if that's her reason for getting into
- 28:11public service, then nothing would make me prouder than her fighting the same fight
- 28:15that I'm fighting for the people that I love the most. State auditor and
- 28:19a Republican candidate for Attorney General. JB. Mcuskey, I appreciate you being

- 34:22You're not here to spread hate? Are you? No? Absolutely not okay.
- 34:24John smoot is with the Tays Valley Fire Department, Right, yes,
- 34:29okay, But here's here to talk about what voters are looking at the on
- 34:36the ballot when they go to the polls, either on election day or they
- 34:38early vote. Now in Putnham County, explain what this levee is all about.
- 34:43This levee will support the fire service in Putnam County. It will bring
- 34:47much needed funds to cover cost of needed people to feel the declining volunteerism,
- 35:00to fix the staffing problems that the departments in Putnam County are facing. It
- 35:06will bring additional monies to purchase equipment, take care of facilities, take care
- 35:12of our communication needs, and just provide better operating So as best I understand
- 35:20this, now, there was over there was a two million dollar emergency services
- 35:24levy that was posed in twenty twenty two. Is that right? And the
- 35:29voters voted for it, but not buy a wide enough margin. Is that?
- 35:31Is that a correct analogy? Yeah, they came in between fifty two
- 35:37and fifty three percent and it was a three million dollar referendum and it was
- 35:45to provide money for fire and ems. And the difference with this issue on
- 35:52Tuesday, is that it is solely tied to the fire service. MS is
- 35:57out of the equation now and it's two point five million, okay. And
- 36:04so you have talked in the past here in other places that I've heard you
- 36:08and others within the county speaking about how difficult it is. One of the
- 36:13reasons that you're asking of is because you just don't have enough numbers. I
- 36:15don't mean necessarily money. That's part of it too, but I'm talking about
- 36:19bodies, about people that you need to operate emergency services of Putnam County in
- 36:23other areas. Yeah, And the difference that people need to understand is the
- 36:30fire service in Putnam County is delivered by nine departments that including the City of
- 36:38Nitro that occupies part of Putnam County. We work as a system, but
- 36:45the departments there are all combinations or three are combination department City of Nitro,
- 36:53Tayese Valley, Hurricane, which means that we have some paid staffing still rely
- 37:00upon the volunteer system. The volunteer system is what is suffering. There are
- 37:07not enough people to come into the business. It's not one of those things
- 37:14that people are wanting to get involved in now and since COVID, it really
- 37:22has hit a decline because of everything that was presented during the pandemic, and
- 37:28it's just not a popular thing to be volunteering your time to do in a
- 37:36business that has a lot of risk to it. Talking again with John Smooth
- 37:42about the Emergency Services left, It's been called a couple of different things,
- 37:45right, Yeah, In twenty twenty two it came out as an emergency services
- 37:52levee and that was to deal with the fire in the MS issues. Now
- 37:57it's just fire rescue. You may see some signs out that still call it
- 38:02the Emergency Services levee, but it is the fire Rescue levee and solely dedicated
- 38:09to the FIR service. Talk about the number of calls that have come in,
- 38:13and you've been doing this for a while. Not saying you're old or
- 38:16anything. I'm just saying you've been you've been, you've been at this.
- 38:19How long have you been at this? Last month was fifty years, fifty
- 38:22years. Talk about the number of calls and how they've how they've gone up.
- 38:29We were told twenty years ago that the baby boomers were going to increase
- 38:36the demand on our services. We are in prime baby boomer time. I'm
- 38:44one, and our call volume has gone up because of the demand of medical
- 38:51services. The fire departments in Putnam County are involved in providing medical care as
- 38:57well as the fire rescue component of what we do, and so we've known
- 39:04for a very long time that our call volume was going to kind of blow
- 39:08up just because of an aging population. But Dave Island showing five any Live

- 39:47good prognosis. And the staffing issues are not going to go away. The
- 39:55cost of operations in today's the co on me fuel is blowing us up.
- 40:05The supply chain issues are still quite causing quite of the problem in emergency services.
- 40:17The cost of equipment has gone out the roof, and the money just
- 40:27needs to be there to operate. And if the money's not there to operate,
- 40:30then there's going to be declining services, longer response times, the same
- 40:37thing that we keep trying to educate people about that it's just not going to
- 40:43work. The big question everybody seems to ask when it comes to these things
- 40:46is how does it affect my wallet? That's what people want to know.
- 40:52Some folks will see an increase. Some folks will not see an increase,
- 40:59and the fee or the fire fee that is currently in place will disappear,
- 41:05and it will be a thing that has done through the Sheriff's department, through
- 41:09the tax division, and it'll be automatic and you won't have to worry about
- 41:15another bill. But some people could experience an increase and some will experience a
- 41:22decrease. But the bottom line is, from what you're telling me, I'm
- 41:23not trying to take sides either way, trying not to sound like it anyway,
- 41:28but the bottom line is is that services if this does not pass.
- 41:35The services will be impacted. I mean greatly, yes, they will.
- 41:38And Taste Value was a prime example of that. In the late summer of
- 41:44twenty three. That's when we really developed a staffing problem due to funding and
- 41:52we cut back on staffing fire equipment twenty four hours a day. Our ambulances
- 42:00are still staffed twenty four hours a day, but the fireside is greatly impacted.
- 42:07Your final ask John, for the voters of Putnam County. With my
- 42:10candidates, I say, I do a thing called the final thirty when I
- 42:14say why should people vote for you? Your final plea to the people of
- 42:17Putnam County. When we bring this these messages to you, we are charged
- 42:29with the responsibility of providing you public safety. And without the equipment, without
- 42:35the people, we can't provide good service. It just our response times will
- 42:42continue to grow. We will not have enough people to show up to do
- 42:47what tasks need to be done. And if you have the mentality that it
- 42:55will never happen to me, I've been on the front row seat of people's
- 43:04lives for fifty years, and it will happen to you. It could happen
- 43:10to you, and when it does, it's a tragic day for anybody that
- 43:16calls for us, and until you experience that, you really don't know what
- 43:25we offer. And but rest assured, if it's not there and you need

- 47:15more taxes to pay. The only people who won't get a tax increase are
- 47:19low income people, says a texture. Texta says, make no mistake.
- 47:22If the fire levee does not pass with Putnam, there's a chance that if
- 47:25you dial nine to one one someone may not show up. Vote like your
- 47:30life depends on it, because it does, says a texture one way or
- 47:34the other. Once the new legislature gavels in this year, next year,
- 47:37I guess there would be a new delegate representing District twenty. The current sitting
- 47:42delegate representing the district, Jeff Foster, not running for reelection. One of
- 47:45the candidates on the Republican side is Jacob Blash, and he joins us now.
- 47:47Jacob, good morning, welcome to the show. Good morning, nice
- 47:51to be here. Give us the bio on Jacob Losh. Yeah, so
- 47:57I've lived in Putnham County. About my entire life. I'm from you know,
- 48:00Winfield, Scott Depot. Pretty much my entire life. My family here
- 48:04is all from here. My grandfather he's been a pastor and hurricane for many
- 48:08many years. My dad, he's the chief of police of Winfield currently.
- 48:13He was a state trooper for over twenty some years. My uncle, he's
- 48:16a state trooper he's a captain in the state Police right now. Also,
- 48:21my mom works across the river and Eleanor at a steel manufacturing plan And so
- 48:25I kind of grew up around Putnam County. I know Putnam County well.
- 48:30I graduated from Winfield. In twenty twenty, I graduated from Marshall. I'm
- 48:35now the marketing and business development officer at Pioneer Appalachia Federal Credit Union and I've
- 48:39been there for about a year or so. You know, I was unanimously
- 48:44elected as the Putnam County Republican Club President, actually taking the rollover from you,
- 48:49Dave. So But yeah, so I know the community, they know
- 48:52me, and I'm just looking forward to being being able to serve them.
- 48:58Why do you want to serve? Well, what is it about this job
- 49:00that appeals to you? You know? I always, just like I said,
- 49:05I've always just loved this community. I've always wonted what's best for it,
- 49:08and I've always felt that, you know, the people in this district
- 49:13deserve a representative that is going to be transparent with them, you know,
- 49:19and that is going to be that has integrity, and I really feel like
- 49:23we've been lacking that, you know, in general, and so I really
- 49:29think, you know, I would love to be able to bring kind of
- 49:30transparency back and being able to help people, you know, and being able
- 49:35to communicate and get out in the community and understand the needs that they have
- 49:38and you know, be able to bring that up to the capital and be
- 49:42able to get things done. How's the campaign been so far, Jacob?
- 49:45Pretty good. Actually, we've we've met a lot of people, We've talked
- 49:49to a lot of people, We've we've done we've done a lot of events,
- 49:52we've you know, the the greatest thing about the campaign to me is
- 49:57getting out and meeting people. I mean, on a see it's one of
- 50:00the greatest things. It's one of the greatest privileges. I mean there is
- 50:04honestly to be able to talk with people, to hear their concerns, to
- 50:07actually listen to them and you know, try to get to work on their
- 50:10behalfs. So what what what have you been hearing from people when you're out
- 50:16talking to them? Yeah, I mean a big thing is is transparency and
- 50:22accountability, so for our legislature and trying to remain accountable to them and being
- 50:27able to have that open dialogue and open communication with them. That's a major
- 50:30thing we've heard. Also, you know, trying to bring more investment into
- 50:35Putnam County, bringing more economic development in and our education system is something that
- 50:40gets brought up a lot, and how we need to be able to continue
- 50:44to improve that and improve things for our kids. And so those are those
- 50:49are three big issues that come up time and again, along a variety of
- 50:54issues including you know, public safety and I mean et cetera. There's all
- 50:59there's all sorts. Where can people learn about your campaigns? We wrap it
- 51:01up here. Yeah, so they can go to our website and go to
- 51:05loss for delicate dot com, or they can call me at three or four,
- 51:07eight oh seven, seven nine ninety seven. We have a Facebook page
- 51:09also so they can get ahold of us and they can ask us questions,
- 51:15get good with us, or do anything on that front. Give me the
- 51:17final thirty seconds. Why should someone vote for Jacob Blish? Yeah, I
- 51:22mean I've been around. You know, I ran in twenty twenty two.
- 51:24I lost by one hundred and seventeen votes, but I stuck around. I
- 51:28never I never went away. You know a lot of people come and go,
- 51:31but I'm still here. A matter of fact, I took even more
- 51:35of an active role in the Republican Party and in my community and for the
- 51:39people of District twenty than ever before. And so I really believe that is
- 51:44that is the main motivator, That's the main differential. Is I've stuck around,
- 51:49I've been here, the people know me, I know them, and
- 51:52I know the issues that are affecting our district. All right, Jacob,
- 51:55we got to leave it there. We wish you the best of luck with
- 51:58the campaign. Man. Thanks a lot, Thank you, I appreciate it.
