- 0:32what is going on everybody
- 0:33welcome to lunch with the
- 0:34Clydesdale it has been a
- 0:36crazy weekend a crazy
- 0:38monday morning and I am so
- 0:40glad that I get to take a
- 0:41breath hang out with you
- 0:43all see what's going on um
- 0:46talk some crossfit talk
- 0:47some stuff uh so super
- 0:52super excited to be with
- 0:53you all today all right
- 0:57Had to clean up some
- 0:58graphics from last night
- 1:00and then go ahead and get
- 1:02these graphics back up.
- 1:03So first thing I want to say
- 1:05is last night we tried to
- 1:06stay live until the age
- 1:10group semifinal results
- 1:12were announced or listed or
- 1:14whatever was going on with that.
- 1:17That did not happen until
- 1:18almost an hour after we went off the air.
- 1:23However, they're live now.
- 1:26So Carolyn, Jamie,
- 1:27and I are trying to find a
- 1:29place to this week get together,
- 1:33go through the leaderboards,
- 1:35talk about some of the people who made it,
- 1:37some of the people who didn't,
- 1:40and kind of go through that.
- 1:42But right now we're just
- 1:42trying to get some times
- 1:43together to figure out when
- 1:45that might be.
- 1:46uh it will not be today
- 1:47today schedules are just
- 1:49crazy um so it'll probably
- 1:51be later in the week that
- 1:53we go ahead and do that um
- 1:57but just you all know and
- 1:59I'm sure it's no secret uh
- 2:02both carolyn and jamie
- 2:03qualified for the crossfit
- 2:04games uh so we're super
- 2:06stoked about that carolyn
- 2:08finished third in the
- 2:09thirty five to thirty nine
- 2:10year old division jamie
- 2:12finished eighth um
- 2:15I'll say this here,
- 2:16like super proud of Jamie.
- 2:17I've been following her with
- 2:19documentary stuff.
- 2:20The past couple of seasons
- 2:22online has always been a
- 2:23struggle for her.
- 2:25And then she gets in person
- 2:26and then blows people out of the water.
- 2:29The fact that she won the open this year,
- 2:31finished eighth in the
- 2:32semis this year online is,
- 2:35is awesome for her.
- 2:36And it's a great sign as to
- 2:37what is going to come for her.
- 2:39I think if her schedule
- 2:41permits her to go to the CrossFit games,
- 2:43because once she gets there in person,
- 2:46she's unstoppable.
- 2:47She is such a great racer.
- 2:49Um, so yeah.
- 2:55Um,
- 2:58Corey says that Jamie is an actual
- 3:00animal.
- 3:00She is so fit.
- 3:01It's silly.
- 3:01She is, um,
- 3:04But it's going to be fun
- 3:05with both the co-hosts
- 3:06making it to the games,
- 3:07the games being here in Columbus.
- 3:09And we are going to have a party.
- 3:15Trained to live.
- 3:16Shout out to one of my gym teen athletes,
- 3:18sixteen, seventeen, Kate Johnson,
- 3:19currently nineteenth in the world.
- 3:21That's awesome.
- 3:23Congratulations, Kate.
- 3:28Craig says I have a lot of
- 3:29video workouts to watch.
- 3:30It'll be fun.
- 3:31There you go.
- 3:33Yeah,
- 3:33it's crazy when you go out to the
- 3:34leaderboard, and I'll pull it up,
- 3:39that every single name has videos.
- 3:44They are straight across.
- 3:46We're so used to in the open
- 3:49that just a smattering of
- 3:50people have their videos posted.
- 3:53Every single person.
- 3:55Nowhere to hide.
- 3:57Nowhere to hide.
- 3:58You have to have a video
- 3:59submitted with all of your scores posted.
- 4:04um I aaron says have they
- 4:08announced how long the
- 4:10review process will be um
- 4:13it was announced that these
- 4:14will be up for one week and
- 4:17then the videos will be
- 4:18pulled and not be able to
- 4:20be reviewed anymore and I
- 4:24hope I really really hope I
- 4:26hope I hope that judges
- 4:29take this seriously
- 4:31And it's not just a
- 4:33vindictive type of thing
- 4:39because I've gone out and
- 4:40looked at some of the
- 4:41videos and there are people
- 4:42that have marked them needs
- 4:43review and I watch it and I
- 4:45have a lot of judging
- 4:47experience and I cannot
- 4:49find the aspect that they
- 4:51think needs reviewed.
- 4:52And so I hope, I hope,
- 4:54I hope that people aren't
- 4:55just being vindictive and
- 4:56trying to move up the leaderboard by
- 5:00going over and hitting needs
- 5:03review on people around
- 5:04them on the leaderboard.
- 5:08So
- 5:11So Train to Live says they
- 5:12were told leaderboards will
- 5:13be finalized April twenty first.
- 5:15So, yes.
- 5:15So this week they will be
- 5:18out for public view and
- 5:19public view to judge them.
- 5:22Then in addition to that,
- 5:25then if they have a lot of needs reviews,
- 5:29then CrossFit will come in
- 5:30and do a secondary review
- 5:32of the video and determine
- 5:34if it is good or needs some
- 5:36kind of judgment to it.
- 5:38Um, so there it's a two-step process.
- 5:46Um, so that's,
- 5:48that's kind of everything behind that.
- 5:49And here you can see, uh,
- 5:51this is actually Jamie.
- 5:52This is there.
- 5:53She has an eighth place right there.
- 5:59Um,
- 6:01But a lot of these people ahead of her,
- 6:02she has beaten in-person competitions.
- 6:08So that'll be fun to see how
- 6:10it all kind of plays out.
- 6:18So anyway, yeah, there's that.
- 6:22Here is Carolyn's third place finish.
- 6:28she is surrounded by some
- 6:29some heavy hitters in the
- 6:30master space stevie
- 6:31dellinger who won crossfit
- 6:33crashes masters division uh
- 6:36and there's christine best
- 6:37long time crossfitter
- 6:39caroline klutz uh who won
- 6:41crash two years ago in the
- 6:43masters division um
- 6:47So yeah, lots of people there.
- 6:50And then just because she's
- 6:54a great friend of the show,
- 6:57we have Denise Moore.
- 7:01Denise Moore finished fourth
- 7:03in the sixty five to sixty
- 7:05nine year old division.
- 7:08So, yeah,
- 7:08we got a lot of people going to
- 7:09the games.
- 7:11denise's best friend and
- 7:13training partner cindy
- 7:15hinkle right there won the
- 7:17the to year old division so
- 7:21lots of cool stuff but
- 7:22we'll dive into a lot more
- 7:23of that uh once jamie and
- 7:25carolyn I can get our
- 7:26schedules together and uh
- 7:29figure out a time to kind
- 7:30of look at these
- 7:31leaderboards look at the
- 7:32workouts look at the
- 7:34judging process all of those things um so
- 7:40Jay Birch says,
- 7:41if you have taken the judge's course,
- 7:42you should have gotten an
- 7:44email about the review.
- 7:48And Corey said, yeah,
- 7:49that email from Boz was cool.
- 7:51Yeah.
- 7:54The head judge of head judges right there,
- 7:56man.
- 8:01Just pardon me for one second.
- 8:04I have an Instacart order
- 8:06going as I've been gone all weekend,
- 8:09and my cupboards are bare.
- 8:12So they didn't have one of my items,
- 8:16so I needed to approve that.
- 8:17There we go.
- 8:18All right.
- 8:23Yeah.
- 8:26I'm always afraid to
- 8:27announce that he's here because...
- 8:30I know he tries to slide in
- 8:32and slide out and sneak around,
- 8:34and who knows what mission he's on today.
- 8:43I did title this show Update
- 8:45on Mama Schweitzer.
- 8:46Last night,
- 8:47I let it be known that the
- 8:49reason we didn't have shows
- 8:50last week is I was on the
- 8:51phone with my mom on FaceTime.
- 8:54She ended up having a stroke
- 8:55while we were on the phone together.
- 8:58uh that freaked me out um
- 9:01thank goodness that I uh in
- 9:04my workplace at the in the
- 9:06break room they had the
- 9:07signs of a stroke on the
- 9:08bulletin board and I would
- 9:10stare at it as I microwaved
- 9:11my food frequently and as
- 9:13it was happening I knew
- 9:14exactly what was happening
- 9:16um I was able to get
- 9:17through to emergency services after
- 9:20several attempts to get
- 9:21someone out there by
- 9:23ambulance to get her she
- 9:25was taken to the hospital
- 9:27in my hometown of oil city
- 9:29she was then transferred to
- 9:31pittsburgh and then my wife
- 9:34and I packed up we headed
- 9:35there to spend the weekend with her
- 9:37Yesterday she was taken out
- 9:38of ICU and so we came back
- 9:42home and I talked to her this morning.
- 9:44Everything is back into the
- 9:46normal ranges and there's a
- 9:48really good chance she'll
- 9:49be discharged to go home tomorrow.
- 9:51So all good news.
- 9:52I thank everybody for their thoughts,
- 9:55prayers, everything in that vein.
- 9:58But if I could implore anything,
- 10:00anything out of this whole thing,
- 10:03is if you have a loved one
- 10:04that lives out of state from you,
- 10:09you need to find out what
- 10:12their local emergency
- 10:13services number is and have
- 10:16it in your phone.
- 10:19You can't just dial nine one
- 10:20one when your loved one is
- 10:22in another state.
- 10:24Um, it just doesn't work that way, right?
- 10:26Nine one one works to local, you know,
- 10:28they ping your phone,
- 10:29they know where you are,
- 10:30all of that stuff.
- 10:32But when I'm calling about a
- 10:34person in another state,
- 10:36it took a lot of transfers
- 10:37to get to the place I needed to be.
- 10:40So I would,
- 10:42after that experience would
- 10:43implore every single one of you,
- 10:45if you have a, a
- 10:47a good friend, a parent, a child, aunt,
- 10:53uncle,
- 10:53whatever that you talk to and that
- 10:56you love to get their
- 10:58emergency services number
- 10:59for their area and put it
- 11:01into your phone.
- 11:02Because if something happens
- 11:04and you need to call,
- 11:05it is not the easiest thing
- 11:06to do when it's all
- 11:09happening and you're in that moment.
- 11:12So I would just implore you
- 11:15guys to do that.
- 11:17It only takes a couple
- 11:18minutes to find out what it is.
- 11:19Plug it into your phone and
- 11:20it's there in case you need
- 11:22it in an emergency.
- 11:26It would have made things a
- 11:27little bit faster for me
- 11:28and would have taken a lot
- 11:30of the stress out of the
- 11:31situation as it was going down.
- 11:34So I encourage you all to do that.
- 11:40Yesterday,
- 11:40we had the Mayhem Classic finish up.
- 11:44And one thing I wanted to
- 11:45point out from that,
- 11:47and if you've been with
- 11:48this show for any length of time at all,
- 11:50you'll know this is a pet peeve of mine.
- 11:53I hate when there is no finish line.
- 11:56And I loved that Mayhem had
- 11:59a finish line for every single event.
- 12:03Rich completely gets it that
- 12:05you are telling a story for
- 12:06the spectators.
- 12:08When the athletes were done,
- 12:10they had to get off of
- 12:11whatever apparatus it was,
- 12:13and they had to run to a
- 12:14finish line and hit a button.
- 12:17So not only did they have a finish line,
- 12:19but they had a concentrated
- 12:20area that you could look
- 12:22for to see who hit it first.
- 12:25You didn't have to worry
- 12:26about who threw an ankle.
- 12:27Was it the right ankle or the left ankle?
- 12:29Was it a wrist or whatever?
- 12:32It was a button on a chess
- 12:35piece that they had to hit.
- 12:38And it made it easier to
- 12:39tell who finished the race first.
- 12:42And they had so many great
- 12:43races that that came into
- 12:45play a lot over the weekend.
- 12:48These competitions that end
- 12:51on the final rep or on a
- 12:54rower or on a bike,
- 12:56and then you can't tell who's done,
- 12:58who's not done until you go
- 13:00look at a leaderboard and
- 13:02see who finished where.
- 13:04It is the most frustrating
- 13:06thing being a spectator in this sport.
- 13:10If you're trying to grow it as a sport,
- 13:12you need to make it
- 13:13watchable for the spectator.
- 13:17And in this case that happened,
- 13:20mayhem had those chess
- 13:21pieces with the buzzer on
- 13:23top and it gave you a
- 13:26pinpoint area where you
- 13:27could look at to see who hit it first,
- 13:30who hit it second, who hit it third.
- 13:33And it was easy for not just
- 13:35the spectators,
- 13:36but the commentators to be
- 13:37able to tell you who finished first,
- 13:39second and third.
- 13:40Um,
- 13:42So huge, huge kudos to Rich,
- 13:47the Mayhem crew,
- 13:48for putting that chess
- 13:49piece there with the buzzer.
- 13:51It made the storytelling so
- 13:53much better and so much easier.
- 13:57I heard someone say this
- 13:58morning on Savan that Rich
- 14:01saved CrossFit this weekend.
- 14:04And while I think that might
- 14:05be a bit of hyperbole, I do think that
- 14:10it was a great competition
- 14:11and it was fun to watch.
- 14:14Um, I, I just, I really,
- 14:18really enjoyed it and it
- 14:20brought back kind of that,
- 14:22what I love about the sport.
- 14:24Um,
- 14:25so while I think saving CrossFit may
- 14:29have gone a step too far,
- 14:32it did a lot to grow my love back, uh,
- 14:35for a sport that I love to watch.
- 14:40Aaron Frazier.
- 14:40I don't understand why James
- 14:42slid when racing Spencer.
- 14:44I don't either,
- 14:45unless he was afraid of
- 14:46hitting the barrier in some
- 14:47kind of weird way.
- 14:49He did hit the buzzer as he slid by,
- 14:52but getting into a sliding
- 14:53position would just slow you down.
- 14:57It would be much better to
- 15:00go right at the chess piece
- 15:01and tackle it.
- 15:02Like many people did.
- 15:03And like Corey says here, um,
- 15:08Or just kind of run into the
- 15:10crowd-ish barrier at the
- 15:12end and let them kind of
- 15:13hold you up from that barrier.
- 15:17So I don't...
- 15:19I don't know why he made that decision.
- 15:21I think that a lot of
- 15:23athletes are just used to
- 15:24their muscle memory is they
- 15:26have a time piece on their ankle.
- 15:29And by sliding in,
- 15:30you're getting that ankle over first, um,
- 15:33to try to win a race.
- 15:35So let's chalk it up to
- 15:36muscle memory that that is just,
- 15:39he did it because that's
- 15:40what you would do when the
- 15:42time chip is on your ankle.
- 15:47So, uh,
- 15:56Corey says the broadcast was
- 15:57incredible this weekend.
- 15:58Voice of CrossFit plus Rich
- 15:59and Angela was fantastic.
- 16:01It really was.
- 16:04It just was so refreshing.
- 16:06It was different than what
- 16:07we've heard over the past...
- 16:09few years and so I'm not
- 16:11taking a shot at anybody
- 16:12who has commentated before
- 16:15what I'm saying is it was
- 16:16refreshing and new and they
- 16:18were having fun with it I
- 16:20think that is the most
- 16:21important part of the broadcast
- 16:24We are getting to a point in
- 16:25our ecosystem in sports
- 16:29where the announcers aren't
- 16:31just there to tell the
- 16:34facts and the details,
- 16:35but they're there to have fun.
- 16:37There's a reason why Pat
- 16:40McAfee is the biggest thing
- 16:41in sports right now from a
- 16:43commentating standpoint,
- 16:44because it's not just about the facts.
- 16:46It's about having fun with your audience.
- 16:51your crew, like he has a big crew.
- 16:53They have fun.
- 16:54That's why people watch it.
- 16:56You could tell that rich and
- 16:58Angelo are part of a crew
- 17:00and the way they dog,
- 17:02some of their mayhem
- 17:02athletes like Luke with the
- 17:05nasal strip and, um,
- 17:09talking about George or
- 17:11Jorge is they like to call
- 17:13him George Roman.
- 17:15Um, that stuff was really,
- 17:17really fun to watch.
- 17:21So, um, I, I agree.
- 17:24I thought,
- 17:24and I thought it loosened Sean up, uh,
- 17:27to have more fun with it.
- 17:29Um,
- 17:29instead of just being like straight
- 17:31down the fairway with the
- 17:33facts and the details of
- 17:34what's going on on the floor.
- 17:36Um, I thought it was,
- 17:38I thought it was great and
- 17:39it was refreshing and fun
- 17:40and that's the most important part.
- 17:42It was fun.
- 17:44And Corey says, exactly.
- 17:45You could tell they enjoyed themselves,
- 17:47made it so much better to watch.
- 17:48Apparently Royce Dunn weighs
- 17:50four hundred and fifty pounds.
- 17:52Yeah.
- 17:54He is a big man.
- 17:55He is a very when I first
- 17:57stood beside him at the games,
- 17:59he is a very large man.
- 18:06Jason Bourne,
- 18:07how was the judging this past weekend?
- 18:10I think the and they said it
- 18:12on the broadcast a couple of times.
- 18:13The best part about the
- 18:14judging was they weren't
- 18:16talked about other than
- 18:20given kudos that they weren't noticed.
- 18:23And that is the best
- 18:25compliment you can give a
- 18:26judge is that they were not
- 18:28noticed while they were out on the floor.
- 18:33So that was awesome.
- 18:35I saw our guy, Andrew Sten, out there.
- 18:38I know he was in Haley's
- 18:39Lane for some of the weekend.
- 18:42He was doing his thing.
- 18:43I know a handful of the
- 18:45other judges I saw out there,
- 18:47they had one of the top
- 18:48crews out there doing this.
- 18:50And I know the AFJ was
- 18:52behind kind of setting this up.
- 18:55It was cool that Rich had
- 18:57conversations with the AFJ
- 18:59as they tweaked and moved
- 19:00things and got their input
- 19:02on it as they were going to
- 19:03have to judge it.
- 19:04And he really listened to
- 19:06their suggestions,
- 19:07which I thought was a cool move, too.
- 19:11Um, there weren't ridiculous standards.
- 19:13If you listen to the broadcast,
- 19:14rich talked about,
- 19:16they thought about going
- 19:17with this standard, but realized, Hey,
- 19:19let's just make it fun.
- 19:20Let's figure out, just get,
- 19:23get through it in the best way possible.
- 19:25And, uh,
- 19:27and I think that worked out for the best.
- 19:31Uh,
- 19:31Shay says great dynamic with all three
- 19:33of them completely agree.
- 19:35And Craig says they had
- 19:36Royce up to five hundred
- 19:37pounds before the comp was over.
- 19:39I know.
- 19:42The tale grows and grows.
- 19:49So congratulations to Colton and Austin,
- 19:54as well as Fi and Abby.
- 19:57I thought those were great
- 19:58performances all weekend.
- 19:59Colton and Austin pretty
- 20:00much ran away with the weekend-ish.
- 20:05Roman made it semi-close at
- 20:07the end with that win.
- 20:09But for the most part,
- 20:10Austin and Colton finished
- 20:12first and second in the
- 20:13first event and never looked back,
- 20:16which was really cool to see.
- 20:22to see that happen.
- 20:24So they did great.
- 20:27We always forget about Abby Domet.
- 20:28There she was killing it again.
- 20:31Fee has had a killer spring
- 20:34and just continued to do that.
- 20:36And now they get to sit back
- 20:38and relax and get ready for the games.
- 20:42Um, they, uh, both, uh,
- 20:44so fee qualified in the pro
- 20:47division for WFP Abby
- 20:49finished in the challenger
- 20:51division of WFP.
- 20:53It'll be interesting to see
- 20:54if Abby goes ahead and, uh,
- 20:56competes there or not.
- 20:58I'm sure fee will with an
- 20:59opportunity to get a pro card.
- 21:03Um,
- 21:06And then on the men's side,
- 21:08Austin has the WFP and
- 21:10Colton won the WFP qualifier.
- 21:13So I'm sure both of them
- 21:14will go to either defend or
- 21:17go after a pro card.
- 21:20But I said this last night, isn't it?
- 21:23It's something that just makes you go, hmm,
- 21:26that of the four qualifiers
- 21:27for the CrossFit Games,
- 21:29only one of them was
- 21:30assigned WFP athlete.
- 21:34The other three had to go
- 21:35through the qualifier to try to get in.
- 21:38So our first four tickets punched,
- 21:41only one was selected to be
- 21:44one of the twenty best
- 21:45athletes to sign to a pro card.
- 21:53Not really making any commentary there,
- 21:55just something that makes you go, hmm.
- 21:58That's all.
- 22:01Um, Claudia also did well.
- 22:04She did, uh, look great.
- 22:06Uh,
- 22:06Hannah placed higher than most analysts,
- 22:08analysts predicted.
- 22:10I'm a big Hannah black fan.
- 22:12Um,
- 22:15I got to meet her at the
- 22:16West coast semifinal a
- 22:18couple of years ago,
- 22:19interviewed her after, uh,
- 22:22Linda or the sled pool.
- 22:24One of the two, um,
- 22:26that she had done really, really well in.
- 22:28And I think it was Linda.
- 22:30Um,
- 22:31and she's been on the show a couple of
- 22:32times since.
- 22:34Um, so really, really a big fan of Hannah.
- 22:38Um,
- 22:40I hope that she can really
- 22:42build up her engine and do
- 22:43some of those things to
- 22:50make her a better overall athlete.
- 22:56How many WFP athletes were at Mayhem?
- 22:59They're a good chunk.
- 23:01James, Jason, Roman,
- 23:12I'd have to look through the
- 23:13lineup again to see,
- 23:17trying to think off the top of my head.
- 23:21On the women's side,
- 23:25you had Alexis and Haley.
- 23:37Yeah,
- 23:38I'd have to look through the lineups.
- 23:40Off the top of my head,
- 23:40it's really hard to picture
- 23:42both lists in my head,
- 23:43but I think there were more
- 23:46on the men's side that were
- 23:47signed athletes than there
- 23:48were from... than on the women's side,
- 23:56because the two that
- 23:58withdrew last minute were WFP athletes.
- 24:04Oh, yeah, Guy...
- 24:07I don't know if Sam is, but Guy surely is.
- 24:16Emily, Emily, yeah.
- 24:18Thank you, everybody.
- 24:21Again,
- 24:22I was in a hospital all weekend and
- 24:23then drove home last night, did the show.
- 24:26I am not at a hundred percent.
- 24:28I will tell you that.
- 24:32Oh, wow.
- 24:33A lot that, yeah, there, I mean,
- 24:34there was a good chunk for
- 24:35the only one of the signed
- 24:37athletes to actually make
- 24:39it to the games.
- 24:40I thought that was just, again,
- 24:42it's just an observation.
- 24:43I'm not trying to like dig on anybody.
- 24:46Um,
- 24:48But I have been pounding the
- 24:51table for years that we pay
- 24:53attention to the top ten,
- 24:55and there's a lot of great
- 24:56athletes in eleven to forty
- 25:00when given the opportunity
- 25:01to show what they can do.
- 25:06Aaron says, I knew Hannah was strong,
- 25:07but I didn't realize how big she was.
- 25:10I wouldn't say big.
- 25:11She's just tall.
- 25:14And so she's going to have those.
- 25:17She's like the same height as Emily Rolfe,
- 25:19maybe.
- 25:22They're about the same height.
- 25:24But I wouldn't say she's
- 25:26much bigger than the other athletes,
- 25:29just really,
- 25:30really tall compared to most
- 25:32of the athletes.
- 25:34But I would say the same
- 25:35about Emily Rolfe.
- 25:37um any thor's daughter size
- 25:40yeah they're they're all in
- 25:41that like upper uh tallness
- 25:44size um five eight I would
- 25:50say five eight she might
- 25:51even push five nine uh five
- 25:54ten uh but I doubt she's five one eighty
- 25:59I would doubt that.
- 26:00But I did not work at a
- 26:03carnival at any time
- 26:04guessing people's weights.
- 26:05That is not my forte.
- 26:10But I did think it was funny.
- 26:13Her and I,
- 26:13in the first time she was on the show,
- 26:14we talked about her.
- 26:16thesis on Isabel and it was
- 26:20funny how that got brought
- 26:21up in the broadcast and
- 26:22they talked about that she
- 26:23did you know and they made
- 26:25fun of her being a doctor
- 26:26and that now Angelo is the
- 26:27professor and blah blah blah
- 26:31Really, what the thesis was about,
- 26:33just to let you guys know,
- 26:34is if you've ever seen when
- 26:36they make video games and
- 26:37they put the white balls on people,
- 26:40that's what she did for Isabelle.
- 26:43They videoed several
- 26:44different people doing Isabelle,
- 26:46and she was tracking the D...
- 26:53I don't know,
- 26:54the deterioration of movement
- 26:57from the first rep to the
- 26:58thirtieth rep of Isabel.
- 27:02Because the idea is to stay
- 27:04in good movement from rep
- 27:06one to rep thirty.
- 27:07And she had these movement
- 27:09tracking balls on people.
- 27:11They videoed it and then
- 27:12analyzed how the movement
- 27:15deteriorated from the first
- 27:16rep to the thirtieth rep.
- 27:19So that is that was what her
- 27:21thesis was on.
- 27:23Um, which I found very, very fascinating.
- 27:28Um, so, and there were,
- 27:32there are other semifinal
- 27:33athletes that work in that, um,
- 27:37body mechanics, um,
- 27:42motion type stuff one of one
- 27:44of the semi-final athletes
- 27:45from the last couple years
- 27:47uh works for the boston red
- 27:49sox and it's her job to
- 27:50analyze um pitching and
- 27:52batting and how it how it
- 27:55affects success or failures
- 27:58uh throughout um throughout a game so um
- 28:08that is stacy larum she was
- 28:10a semi-final athlete for
- 28:11the last couple years so I
- 28:14just love that science
- 28:16behind all that and cory
- 28:18says that's pretty cool and
- 28:19it is uh hannah's listed at
- 28:22five foot nine hundred and
- 28:24eighty pounds yeah and
- 28:27aaron says five nine one eighty five
- 28:31Again, I am not a weight guesser,
- 28:33so I am not sure.
- 28:35But I would actually think I
- 28:37think she's thinned out
- 28:38since or leaned out since I
- 28:41first met her.
- 28:42But I am not a weight guesser.
- 28:44But five nine seems just about right.
- 28:48um talking about height kale
- 28:50is only two inches above
- 28:51dwarfism yeah I don't that
- 28:55poor guy is getting when we
- 28:57I gave him a little bit
- 28:58last night so I'm I'm I'll
- 29:00let other people handle
- 29:01that uh going forward uh
- 29:06she's with precision crossfit
- 29:09Is that Hannah?
- 29:10Uh, when I was with,
- 29:12when I talked to Hannah,
- 29:13she was in Austin, Texas,
- 29:15and then she moved to San
- 29:17Diego to be with Invictus
- 29:19to be on their team.
- 29:21And so I don't really even
- 29:21know where she's at anymore.
- 29:24Um,
- 29:24I haven't talked to her in a little bit.
- 29:25I,
- 29:26I actually thought about reaching out to
- 29:27her, uh,
- 29:28to have her back on the show
- 29:29after her experience with mayhem.
- 29:32Um, and,
- 29:34and to see if she's going to go
- 29:35team this year or if she's
- 29:36trying to do go individual, uh,
- 29:38because she was with a
- 29:40games team last year.
- 29:42Uh,
- 29:42one of the Invictus teams that made it
- 29:44to the CrossFit games.
- 29:51Uh,
- 29:53Jay Birch says, Hey,
- 29:54easy on the height jokes.
- 29:55Yeah.
- 29:58Yeah.
- 29:58Rich said the same thing this morning.
- 30:00Didn't want to pile on kale.
- 30:01Yeah.
- 30:01That's, that's kind of where I'm at.
- 30:03I had a little bit of fun
- 30:03with it last night.
- 30:05And then today I'm just like,
- 30:07I feel bad for the guy.
- 30:09Um, Hiller called him out.
- 30:10We'll see what happens from that.
- 30:12I do, you know?
- 30:13Yeah, it is what it is.
- 30:15We'll see.
- 30:19So, um,
- 30:24Yeah, fun stuff there.
- 30:27The other thing I had on my mind,
- 30:30I had a couple things,
- 30:31and these are just quick hitters,
- 30:32and one is that Alex
- 30:35Ovechkin became the
- 30:38greatest goal scorer in the
- 30:39NHL this weekend,
- 30:41and I have ESPN updates on my phone,
- 30:43and I am the least bit of a
- 30:47fan of Alex Ovechkin.
- 30:49I have been raised as a Penguins fan,
- 30:51and the Penguins hate the Capitals.
- 30:53and they hate alex ovechkin
- 30:55we are sydney crosby fans
- 30:57and so every time the
- 30:58update would come I would
- 30:59just get annoyed by it like
- 31:01oh gosh do I have to be
- 31:02reminded that he's doing
- 31:04this and accomplishing this
- 31:05goal but it is pretty
- 31:07impressive to break a wayne
- 31:09gretzky uh goal record and
- 31:11it was cool that wayne
- 31:12gretzky was there to shake
- 31:14his hand after he did it I
- 31:16thought that was pretty
- 31:17awesome and gretzky said he
- 31:19did that because gordy howe
- 31:20did that with him when he
- 31:21broke gordy howe's record
- 31:23So I like that we have that lineage,
- 31:26that we pass that down from
- 31:28generation to generation.
- 31:30Even though I'm not an Ovechkin fan,
- 31:32it's a pretty cool accomplishment.
- 31:35And then the women's
- 31:36tournament ended this week
- 31:37with another win by the Yukon Huskies,
- 31:39their twelfth national
- 31:42championship under Gino Ariema.
- 31:45Pretty impressive event.
- 31:47The one thing I wanted to
- 31:49point out is we did do that
- 31:51tournament challenge, and I got beat.
- 31:54The first and second place
- 31:56finishers were Jamie and Carolyn.
- 31:59So that sucks that I have to
- 32:01lose to them all the time.
- 32:03They're fitter than me.
- 32:05They pick better than me.
- 32:07Ugh, so bad.
- 32:15Corey Leonard, to be fair,
- 32:16it looked like when people
- 32:17want to have a regular dude
- 32:18at the Olympics versus the
- 32:19Olympic athletes,
- 32:21like you could tell the dude was fit,
- 32:22but he just looked out of place.
- 32:27Sure.
- 32:28He had the guts to go.
- 32:29Like he could have said no,
- 32:32but he showed up.
- 32:34Got to give him credit for that.
- 32:38The last thing I wanted to talk about,
- 32:39and this is just a pet peeve.
- 32:42Maybe it'll turn into a riff.
- 32:43I don't know.
- 32:44But I had to go to
- 32:45Pittsburgh to be with my
- 32:46mom this weekend and like
- 32:48Columbus is a big city,
- 32:50but it's not like a big, big city.
- 32:53Um, and so it, it,
- 32:58it is more of a concrete
- 32:59jungle than Columbus's,
- 33:01even though population wise, uh,
- 33:05Columbus is supposed to be
- 33:06bigger than Pittsburgh.
- 33:07It does not feel that way in any sense.
- 33:09When you're in Pittsburgh, it feels much,
- 33:12much bigger than Columbus, um, there.
- 33:16So, and Columbus is very square.
- 33:20You miss a street, you just go up a block,
- 33:22go around the block and catch it again.
- 33:25Pittsburgh is very big.
- 33:27You lose your sense of
- 33:28direction because of all the buildings,
- 33:30and it's not square.
- 33:32There are three rivers
- 33:34splitting this city into
- 33:35different... So you have triangles,
- 33:37you have circles, you have trapezoids,
- 33:41and so there are no square streets.
- 33:44But they do this thing with
- 33:45their traffic that is just
- 33:47mind-blowing to me.
- 33:49So you'll go down a street,
- 33:51and there's no...
- 33:53solid like permanent line to
- 33:55tell you like what is the
- 33:56right and what is the left.
- 33:59it's just like dashes like
- 34:01two dashes constantly
- 34:04running down in a straight
- 34:06ish line down the street
- 34:09and then above the street
- 34:11they have little boxes that
- 34:13are either a green arrow or
- 34:15a red x and depending on
- 34:17how much traffic they have
- 34:19they change how many lanes
- 34:22can move in each direction
- 34:26So like morning rush,
- 34:27it may be that the
- 34:29eastbound lanes are now
- 34:30three and they're green and
- 34:32the westbound lane is one.
- 34:34And then in evening rush,
- 34:36all that switches to where
- 34:38the three westbound lanes
- 34:41are now green and the one
- 34:43eastbound lane is now a red X.
- 34:46And so if you are not paying
- 34:48attention and you are not
- 34:49from there and you don't
- 34:50see those little things
- 34:51above the street periodically,
- 34:54because you can't see them all the time.
- 34:56They just show up
- 34:57periodically down the street.
- 35:00It is insane.
- 35:02And then going in and out of the city,
- 35:04they have HOV lanes that
- 35:06are separate and they're in
- 35:07the middle between the two
- 35:10different directions.
- 35:12And depending on what time of day,
- 35:15there are gates that open
- 35:17and shut that middle lane
- 35:19so that like going north and south,
- 35:23going north out of the city in morning,
- 35:26the gates will be shut and
- 35:28you cannot access the HOV lane.
- 35:31Then in the evening when
- 35:34you're going north and it's
- 35:36more traffic leaving the city,
- 35:38that gate opens up and you
- 35:39can access that HOV lane going north.
- 35:43So that HOV lane changes
- 35:44direction depending on the
- 35:46traffic needs as well.
- 35:49It is wild because all this
- 35:52stuff is happening and
- 35:54people that are from there
- 35:55are just like cutting you off,
- 35:56swerving over three lanes,
- 35:58swerving here and there.
- 36:00And you're trying to pay
- 36:00attention to all this new
- 36:01stuff that you've never seen before.
- 36:04And they're just flying
- 36:05around you like you're standing still.
- 36:08It was freaking wild.
- 36:11And all weekend it did nothing but rain.
- 36:13So you're doing all this in
- 36:15like rainstorms trying to see everything.
- 36:19It was just crazy.
- 36:22And I feel like I live in a
- 36:23pretty big city.
- 36:24Columbus has over a million population.
- 36:27It's a big city.
- 36:29But man,
- 36:30I go to Pittsburgh and I grew up
- 36:32just north of Pittsburgh.
- 36:33We used to go there for
- 36:34baseball games all the time
- 36:35and to the amusement parks
- 36:37there and all that stuff.
- 36:39I have family that live there.
- 36:42My daughter lives there now,
- 36:44but it has become this
- 36:48And none of that stuff
- 36:49existed back in the day.
- 36:50None of these changing lane things.
- 36:54I'm sure that studies were
- 36:55done that say this is more
- 36:56effective and allows
- 36:58traffic flow better throughout the city.
- 37:01And I commend them for
- 37:02trying these things.
- 37:03But man, if you're not from there,
- 37:05it is freaking wild.
- 37:10But yeah,
- 37:10so just wanted to share that because I...
- 37:15I've never seen it in any
- 37:17other city I have visited.
- 37:20Um,
- 37:20and I visited a lot through either my
- 37:22job or through CrossFit and
- 37:24I've never seen this done
- 37:27anywhere else other than there.
- 37:30I would love to hear if any
- 37:31of you have experienced
- 37:32that in another city because, um,
- 37:35changing the flow of
- 37:37traffic on a lane
- 37:39periodically during the day
- 37:41to make it better, um,
- 37:44on one hand seems very
- 37:46logical and on the other
- 37:47hand seems like how do we
- 37:49keep up with this and
- 37:50understand it and make it
- 37:52so that the drivers are
- 37:53still safe um so yeah just
- 37:59a little food for thought
- 38:00and um of course if you
- 38:05have experienced any of
- 38:06that or have any ideas
- 38:07about anything we've talked
- 38:08about just leave them in
- 38:08the comments don't forget
- 38:10to like and subscribe to
- 38:11the channel but guess what guys
- 38:13It's time for you hooligans
- 38:15to get back to work.
- 38:17Lunch is over.
- 38:19I'll see you guys tomorrow.
- 38:21Oh,
- 38:22and Kat's new show kicked off with a
- 38:25bang last week.
- 38:26Lots of viewers really loving it.
- 38:29She is going to go live this week,
- 38:31Wednesday at five.
- 38:33Five p.m.
- 38:33Eastern time instead of eight.
- 38:37And then I believe following this week,
- 38:40she's going to park the
- 38:42show on Tuesday nights.
- 38:46Just to kind of get it away
- 38:47from the barbell spin.
- 38:50Um,
- 38:51so that all of you barbell spin lovers
- 38:53can also watch her show.
- 38:55Um, I think that is the plan.
- 38:58She has some plans this week on Tuesday.
- 39:00So five o'clock PM Eastern time this week.
- 39:03And then after that,
- 39:05it'll be parked on Tuesday nights.
- 39:08But with that, yep.
- 39:09Time to get back to work guys.
- 39:10We'll see everybody tomorrow
- 39:12on lunch with the Clydesdale.
- 39:13Bye guys.
