- 1:01when it ends, I don't know. We'll check out his
- 1:03realistically. I could win these nice mugs and
- 1:10this is not the nicest gift. Trust me.
- 1:12There's there's a nice little hat.
- 1:13Check me that hat. Mr. Producer we there's a hat
- 1:16here. There you go.
- 1:18Through 13 or weighted coat and also an amazing hoodie.
- 1:21Which we've seen said I lie rocking as well.
- 1:24But today, we're talking about Christmas.
- 1:26We are exciting stuff. Exciting for many Muslims,
- 1:30believe it or not. Yeah, should be excited.
- 1:32I think that's a question. That's the main question.
- 1:34I think joining us to help us get into that as a good friend
- 1:37of ours, Jose Medina salaam alaikum.
- 1:39I can stand like a nice to see how's things.
- 1:42I'm good handle on how you guys hearing on the long.
- 1:46Have you been recently? Yeah, all good.
- 1:48I think. I mean we're recording this just
- 1:51just after the World Cup final. So eye cream has been there.
- 1:54That was a that was a crazy day. I had Had the pleasure of
- 1:57spending the day with Ahmed watching that game.
- 2:00So those have to have one of the best one of the best games of
- 2:04the of all time. I would say yeah, I'll be one of
- 2:07the best tournament. So handle has been good, but
- 2:11like we mentioned, also the month of for Tamiya has been
- 2:16here already and still some nights to come.
- 2:19So it's striking that. But so, yeah, so weird, it's a
- 2:22weird. It's a weird feeling having to
- 2:25shouldn't be with Yeah, I guess so.
- 2:27I mean it's weird on one side, you've got the goat winning the
- 2:30World Cup. That's like the way you feel
- 2:34about that and then obviously Papa Mia's coming up.
- 2:36Work is slowing down. I think for a lot of people so
- 2:39it's been hard to balance. So so what sort of violence?
- 2:43Like a real question? Okay.
- 2:45Fine. So I think a lot of people are
- 2:47not ask and want to know how should we feel about Christmas,
- 2:50okay? Because we're Muslims we have
- 2:53conflicting reports opinions on the ideological Spectrum.
- 2:56I'm of Islam. You've got the liberal side who
- 2:58are generally okay with it. Stop, big deal with.
- 3:01Even the UK doesn't mean what converting to Christianity.
- 3:04For example. And then you've got the others
- 3:06who say, no, no trees, no presents, no gifts, no dinners,
- 3:08nothing carry on with your life. As though you've just got
- 3:11another bank holiday or public holiday for non UK viewers.
- 3:15So I think that's the hard thing like where do we stand now?
- 3:20How do you draw the line? Where do you draw the line?
- 3:21Are we in the wrong? Are we doing the wrong thing?
- 3:23We do the right thing. If someone does something
- 3:25different, if I get invited to my The Muslims house for
- 3:28Christmas dinner. Should I go?
- 3:29Should I not? You know, I mean, so yeah,
- 3:33that's the hard part, maybe the might be some more things.
- 3:35What would you say, Ali? How are you?
- 3:37Finding this whole period. How does it affect your life
- 3:41personally as an? It doesn't affect me personally?
- 3:44Yes, I think it's having an effect on my kids, okay?
- 3:48You know, from the perspective of as a Muslim parent trying to
- 3:51you know keep the kids away from this whole Christmas happiness
- 3:56and greet. Things and seasons and whatnot.
- 3:58Because I think there is a big, big, you know.
- 4:00Should I say influence at school?
- 4:02Yeah. When it comes to celebrating
- 4:03Christmas, like you've got my eldest comment on telling me,
- 4:06you know, are we going to have a Christmas tree or you know, are
- 4:09we gonna sounds funny, but we're going to leave a cookie for
- 4:12Santa. I'ma literally am I on Santa's
- 4:14good list all these things. I'm getting shocked.
- 4:16I'm like, you know, what's going on as Muslims?
- 4:19I wish they did the same. For I, for example, it's not
- 4:22happening at Christmas and I think is whirring whirring, but
- 4:25you are going to say, I think I mean, I understand where you're
- 4:28coming from in terms of as a Muslim parent.
- 4:30Obviously, I can't speak on that personally.
- 4:33But having grown up most of my life here.
- 4:36As many of the viewers, I'm sure from the UK, we've been
- 4:40surrounded by these festivities, especially Halloween Christmas.
- 4:47And perhaps we've part taken or being influenced by the people
- 4:50around us are friends maybe in family as well.
- 4:54So, I think it's, I think it's It's important to strike a
- 4:57balance because I think if you personally I feel if you
- 5:00completely shut the idea out that raises more questions and
- 5:04it, it's then you start saying, well kind of like why why?
- 5:07Yeah, why is he keep it? Why is it being kept away from
- 5:09me? Like it's not that bad, you
- 5:11know, my friends are giving each other gifts.
- 5:14That's good. You know, people are spreading
- 5:17Joy. That's good.
- 5:18So it's finding I think an understanding of, you know, what
- 5:22does Christmas stand for and even on that that point is so
- 5:26Lee dispute is it is it? Is it Christian?
- 5:30Is it Christianity? You know what?
- 5:32Perfect nice actually born on innocent 25th of December.
- 5:36So you know it's very confusing and then you know I mean Shake
- 5:41Google says a lot of things about you know some of the
- 5:43Traditions that have been introduced over the centuries
- 5:48and things like Christmas trees, Christmas wreaths, you know, you
- 5:52know Turkey all of these things have all been sort of influences
- 5:56from You know, Pagan Traditions. So I think it's a holiday now
- 6:00that has many meanings and it means something different to a
- 6:04lot of different people. Yeah.
- 6:05And so it's, yeah. I think it's finding that
- 6:09balance as, as Muslims. Okay.
- 6:11What is our stance on it and how can we inform our kids about?
- 6:17There are positives that I would say and we'll probably go on to
- 6:20speak about that but what are the negatives of it?
- 6:22And how do we combat the negatives that come with that?
- 6:27With our children but also, you know, with ourselves, but we're
- 6:30not immune to. So say, let me ask you based on
- 6:33all of that because I think that was like a mere six summary
- 6:36mashallah, really good overview. But what Hussein said?
- 6:40He's like if you shut anything out.
- 6:42Yeah, your kids will ask questions and it might tempt
- 6:44them more. I think, for anything in Islam,
- 6:47which you avoid talking about, or you shut out, if anything
- 6:51that forbidden nature or that taboo, nature of the thing will
- 6:55draw your children too. Was it more.
- 6:57So if you look at drugs or music or talk to the opposite, gender
- 7:00or alcohol or anything generally speaking, your kids are going to
- 7:04think, you know, what's the problem?
- 7:06Especially, like you said, in terms of Christmas, I'm having
- 7:08fun. I'm in school.
- 7:09I'm getting gifts from my friends and it's finally we go,
- 7:13we get holidays. I'm on dresses are pits.
- 7:16So let me ask you because obviously, you said, you're
- 7:18keeping your kids that off limits?
- 7:20Yeah. How what's that?
- 7:22Sound keeping them off limits. Yeah, I'm not shutting them away
- 7:25from the crisper. Festive thing?
- 7:27Yeah, that's at home. There's no such thing as
- 7:29Christmas of calling me, so you so do you live your life?
- 7:32Normally based, life is normally done is just as you mentioned
- 7:35earlier, is just that any other bad quality, nice holiday for
- 7:37us. And it's also a time where no
- 7:39one's actually working for the whole family is together.
- 7:42Hundreds a nice time of the year, this Christmas and my
- 7:46children stays at school that and that?
- 7:49Yeah, and that's something I grew up.
- 7:50I grew up in the UK. I've been, you know, came in
- 7:541992 by one school from. I don't know.
- 7:56T5 or something, and have it all the way until 6 wall.
- 8:00There was always every single yet on either Like A Christmas
- 8:03Carol being sung at school. Yeah.
- 8:04Those for example, you know, as kids, Christmas plays every
- 8:08adult be like, Christmas Foods, Christmas lunch, whoever is and
- 8:10celebrations, Christmas cards. All this was part of the noon,
- 8:14but I knew growing up as a kid from my parents under Le that's
- 8:18Christmas. You just do not take it too,
- 8:20serious. Okay, it's not why Russia and
- 8:22selling. That's what our culture tells
- 8:24us, right? Is that something I'll culture.
- 8:26Uh, so does religion, tell us that?
- 8:30What do you mean? What's your question like, for
- 8:31example, the trees and, and this and that this is something that
- 8:34Christians do only which is what you said is that something that
- 8:38our culture has told us to follow or does religion?
- 8:41Say you can't practice Christmas.
- 8:43Yeah. And your religion doesn't say
- 8:44you can't practice Christmas, but you can't.
- 8:47Ya believe in Christmas. Okay.
- 8:49Okay, one. I'm not saying when I say you
- 8:51can't practice Krishna, I don't mean you can have a tree on hold
- 8:54up against one of that way because Christmas in itself.
- 8:57Is celebrating who I saw that. Yeah.
- 9:01For example, correct. Yeah.
- 9:03I suspect no one cares about right now, that's the whole
- 9:08point of it. That's the thing, my own
- 9:11perspective. They are believing that that's
- 9:13the day. Jesus was born and the
- 9:15Christians, nowadays is the Son of God, that's associating upon
- 9:20Obama's policy. So if we're celebrating his
- 9:23birthday on that day was completely wrong as Muslims.
- 9:26I don't know. No, I didn't know, I get where
- 9:30you're coming from, what does sound boring?
- 9:31But it's the truth. But I think, I mean, on ackman's
- 9:34point regarding whether, you know, I think, I think we just
- 9:38to make it, clear, we're not here telling people they can or
- 9:41cannot sorry Christmas, it's just, you know, raising our
- 9:45points, our ideas and then and then having a conversation about
- 9:48it. I mean, in terms of, you know,
- 9:51everyone, you know, follows a mirage in most cases, do you
- 9:55know what are y'all the maharajah say?
- 9:57Say say on this matter. Okay, so I'm just going to check
- 10:00what said I need to start. He says, he says, all Muslims.
- 10:03This is what a question. There's a commonwealth officer.
- 10:05Yeah, a couple of questions I've been sent in almost comes
- 10:08allowed to celebrate Christmas to be more specific on Muslims
- 10:11allowed to set up Christmas trees in their homes.
- 10:12Give gifts to their Muslim family members within the
- 10:15household. Also are Muslims allowed to hang
- 10:18Christmas, tree lights in their homes and other form of
- 10:20Christmas observances such as having parties and Christmas
- 10:23dinners, which to me, sounds like a full-on.
- 10:27This is Everything that's Chris everybody.
- 10:29Yes, dinners parties. Yeah, say Stanley says, in the
- 10:32name of Allah, if it's considered preaching and
- 10:35confirming. Another person's religion.
- 10:37It is not permissible if it is, considered preaching and
- 10:41confirming other's religion. It's not permissible similar
- 10:44question. Someone else says, what's the
- 10:46rule on giving Christmas, presents says, if it's
- 10:48considered a kind of confirmation or approval of
- 10:50their faith, it's not allowed. And there's so many others about
- 10:53New Year and the like, you know what I mean?
- 10:57Like we were discussing as long as you're not, you know,
- 11:00affirming a faith or a, you know, an idea or an ideology.
- 11:08Then then it's okay that the actual, you know, getting
- 11:12together and having a meal, giving someone a gift in and of
- 11:15itself isn't, you know, her Ang yeah.
- 11:18So it's just that when associating it with the faith or
- 11:22with that tradition is when the waters get murky I guess.
- 11:27So yeah, I think I mean, take it as you as you want and I think
- 11:33there are there are many scholars have spoken.
- 11:34A I know there's Shake Haley has this these short clips as well
- 11:39which was something I came across?
- 11:41I think. Yeah, which sort of just, yeah,
- 11:43it's sort of just gives you a bite-sized version of, you know,
- 11:47whether it's celebrating is right or wrong but I mean
- 11:51personally, you know, growing up as a family less.
- 11:57So, Now, obviously, we're, you know, I'm a bit older, but when
- 12:01we were younger and my cousins were younger, we would gather
- 12:04other our house, or my uncle's house and we just have a dinner
- 12:08together. Some of the cousins, we probably
- 12:10hadn't seen in a while so it was a good opportunity.
- 12:12Know, most people are fat off work or at least have a few days
- 12:16off. So, it was, it was a nice
- 12:18opportunity for everyone to get together, you know, spend time
- 12:21together catch up on how the years been, but it was not like
- 12:26there was no Spruce trees, there was no gift giving.
- 12:30However, now, it now, some of my cousins and, you know, people, I
- 12:36see, it's very common to give their gifts gifts to their kids,
- 12:40but it is getting this Christmas period.
- 12:42There's gonna be, I would, I would go as far as to guest, you
- 12:45know, like 30 40 percent of our community or even the listeners
- 12:49at home. Sorry, guys, to bring you into
- 12:51this but I think a lot of people will put up trees.
- 12:55Yeah, and they'll give gifts at the end of Of the day.
- 12:58It's a very very fine line to draw.
- 12:59And I think the most important thing is my humble opinion is
- 13:03that that's fine. Okay, fine.
- 13:05Let's say you do these practices but what is your priority as a
- 13:09parent for example, or even as just someone who lives in the
- 13:12house? Is it to prioritize?
- 13:14Things like that. Like it's time for solar but
- 13:17you've got, you put the Christmas tree decorations up as
- 13:19on like their book. There comes a point where it
- 13:22doesn't kick fully with how we think as Muslims.
- 13:25And then, for example, in it, comes to the time read.
- 13:27Like you mentioned said, what do we prioritize more?
- 13:30Okay, we go for its Allah in the morning.
- 13:32The men mostly in our community will go and you might dress up
- 13:35and okay, then what do you know what I mean?
- 13:38So a lot of the time now we because we live in a secular,
- 13:40Western says, they should as well.
- 13:42We've ended up prioritizing Christmas as a holiday season
- 13:46because everywhere we go, we send emails and at work, and the
- 13:50signatures all Christmas replies, and then you go to the
- 13:53shops and there's Christmas decorations.
- 13:55You turn on the radio and it's Christmas music.
- 13:56And You're surrounded by it and then your kids and your family
- 14:00will grow up ingrained with that culture.
- 14:04You can about lucky man. Yeah, actually signed one off.
- 14:07Wishing you, a happy festive season and that once I did as
- 14:10well. Yeah,
- 14:23it's about respecting their values.
- 14:27You know, being here. Yeah, we I think we should also
- 14:30be grateful being in the West, for example.
- 14:31Yeah. At the same time, we can't say,
- 14:33you know, what you doing is wrong, that's the norm, that's
- 14:35the culture. That's their faith, for example.
- 14:37So there's nothing wrong. Harmon, greeting them with
- 14:39Seasons. Greeting, for example.
- 14:40Yeah, best to come wish them. A merry Christmas.
- 14:43I think it's a big question, okay.
- 14:44I generally trust this job. There's gonna be dilemmas on
- 14:48that guys. Hit the comments.
- 14:49Tell us what you think is it, hot are Mo, not even Harem, is
- 14:51it wrong to tell someone Merry Christmas and hit that subscribe
- 14:54button while listening. Look if you're telling you a
- 14:56Christian never married, Christmas go for it.
- 14:59Okay. If you're telling your Muslim
- 15:01neighbor of your telling you ignore you telling your auntie
- 15:03or whoever is free, all family. Merry Christmas.
- 15:06That's shocking, really? Yeah.
- 15:09I've been, it makes sense. So if you're buying a Christmas
- 15:12gift, if you're buying back your wife, a Christmas gift, I do.
- 15:14I mean it's called on this, if if you had a Christian family,
- 15:20singing Mubarak to each other. E by saying as a part of the
- 15:29society that where they that we're trying to hook for.
- 15:32I mean, in the west, as Muslims were always calling for you.
- 15:36No respect of diversity, respect of, you know, each other's
- 15:41beliefs. So, I mean, I think, I think we
- 15:44sometimes forget that. Okay, fine.
- 15:46There are a lot of things that are associated with Christmas
- 15:48that perhaps we don't necessarily, you know, aligned
- 15:51with. But there are many things, you
- 15:54know, that I think are, you know, beautiful.
- 15:57So about this time of year, especially in the western world.
- 16:00I mean it's one of the times of the years that I think
- 16:04especially in the west, you know, the Western culture that
- 16:08people get together as families. Yeah.
- 16:10Within our within our culture's, you know, Arab you know,
- 16:14cordial, Pakistani. Whatever it may be.
- 16:16It's quite common that family. Gatherings are quite often.
- 16:20Yeah. Whereas I think I'm, you know,
- 16:23I'm just going based off my experiences of living here.
- 16:25They're not as common Within. Western culture.
- 16:28But this time of year is a time that they, you know, people get
- 16:31together, they will call up there.
- 16:33You know, they aren't you there, Uncle their Grandma.
- 16:36They want that. Yeah, you know and I how you
- 16:38know how you doing and they'll probably try and get together
- 16:41and I think we saw him come over time.
- 16:42Yeah, during the covid time, you know, it was a really big, you
- 16:47know, is a struggle for people and they realized and
- 16:50appreciated that. How much Christmas meant to them
- 16:53in terms of getting together? Forget the gifts and, you know,
- 16:56Santa and all that So I think that part is is beautiful in the
- 17:00sense that it reminds us as human beings that we're not.
- 17:04You know, we're not individuals. We only survive and thrive as as
- 17:08a collective. So I think that's a beautiful
- 17:10part. Another part that I really think
- 17:12is, you know, special is this time of year, you know, charity
- 17:16is is a little bit more predominant within the Western
- 17:20Society. So people doing things for, you
- 17:23know, raising money for, you know, during the Christmas
- 17:27period. It, you know, I don't know
- 17:28running in a Santa outfit. Running a marathon for a charity
- 17:32or things like that that you see so fundraising Etc.
- 17:36It's also another Divine times. If you don't interrupt in the
- 17:38values of like it together, your family or giving charity is
- 17:41something we can learn from. Yeah, I don't think it's
- 17:43something we can learn from. I think it's obviously you can
- 17:46learn from it. I think it's something that I'll
- 17:47handle all within our faith within our culture.
- 17:50It's kind of there. But what I'm saying is a
- 17:53society, it's a time of year where people perhaps nicer to
- 17:57each other. I mean, if you go into a shop,
- 17:59someone was, you know, the cashier will say, you know, have
- 18:02a nice Christmas and a happy New Year.
- 18:04Yeah. Otherwise it's like pay for your
- 18:06stuffing, you know, Gap, the line.
- 18:08Yeah. I mean so what I mean what I'm
- 18:11trying to get at I guess is that, you know, it's a time of
- 18:14year where people, I think a bit more appreciative of their
- 18:18families of their surroundings of what they have and they, you
- 18:23know, like, and to give and receive gifts.
- 18:25I mean, it's La mclee giving a If than receiving you know it's
- 18:29always not an Islamic think it's not understand like thing story.
- 18:33Are we doing down on eight? So I think I think it's becoming
- 18:36more common and I don't know if you guys have seen in the past
- 18:39couple of years, people were starting to hang up these eat
- 18:44moons. Have you seen them?
- 18:45Yeah, these Moon. So I mean it's finding a way of
- 18:49you know, bringing a balance but also maintaining like we said I
- 18:54think it's just another day bright like the thing is we Liv.
- 18:58Why is Christmas so popular? Yeah.
- 19:01It's because it's so ingrained in the culture that you see
- 19:05everywhere, every single year, there's like 100 new Christmas
- 19:09films that come out, for example.
- 19:11Yeah, cartoons, kids shows all of that stuff babies like shows
- 19:15on YouTube and all of that stuff.
- 19:17If it's, if you're talking about toys, you're talking about music
- 19:20wherever it is, you find it everywhere.
- 19:22So, because it's so ingrained in pop culture and like, Western
- 19:25culture, very common birth to death.
- 19:26Yes, They commercialize that basically appeals to everyone
- 19:30becomes find it becomes attractive, as colorful as
- 19:32exciting. Now, when you talk about heed,
- 19:35as an example, we it doesn't have that same appeal, maybe
- 19:38it's because we don't, I think all.
- 19:41Nah, bro, doesn't it doesn't, it doesn't to the people.
- 19:45It does. It's cool and its nature.
- 19:47It doesn't appeal to the people. You mean to people who are not
- 19:49Muslim, no, no evil. I mean, even to people who are
- 19:52not Muslim. Be, I'm talking about
- 19:53specifically like Muslim youth, okay?
- 19:55Muslim children, you know, Maybe it's because we don't have
- 19:58Muslim toys and Muslim music and some shows like that.
- 20:01I think. Yes, the commercialized part,
- 20:03sorry to interrupt but I think the fact that these holidays are
- 20:06so commercialized. It's so in your face.
- 20:08It's so jazzed up. Yeah, it's very hot Escape, like
- 20:13we said. Whereas either generally is
- 20:18more, you know, prayers and then family time and perhaps some
- 20:24families give gifts, I mean, within our families.
- 20:27The kids always get gifts. So yeah, but I think, I
- 20:32definitely think it's the commercialize aspect to the, you
- 20:34know, the the music, the music, the movies.
- 20:36I mean, elf is that the greatest Christmas movie?
- 20:40Anyone home alone? Yeah, now it's definitely out.
- 20:43But yeah, I don't know if that counts as a Christmas movie,
- 20:50really? Yeah.
- 20:51I mean, it's just in Christmas time.
- 20:53Yeah. That's a Christmas film.
- 20:54But yeah. Okay.
- 20:56Yeah, what will get on? To the movie debate layup.
- 20:58But yeah, no, I think it's the lack of the commercialization
- 21:02but also do do you think it's do you think it would be a good
- 21:06idea if we start to? Now commercialize easy to try
- 21:09and appease the needs of the Youth of today because the Youth
- 21:12of today, I feel you know they're so attracted to their
- 21:15devices their phones. If things aren't in the face
- 21:18constantly if they're not constantly stimulated I mean it
- 21:20happens to me and I'm not I wouldn't consider myself you
- 21:23know extremely young. You know, we're constantly
- 21:28looking for stimulation and he's probably isn't, you know, overly
- 21:31stimulating from the way we traditionally do it.
- 21:35Are we risking the the that perhaps in 10, 20 years, you
- 21:38know, either is no longer. What either is?
- 21:41Now, is that a good thing? Is that a bad thing?
- 21:44You know, because for Christians, I'm sure there's
- 21:45Christians out there who probably feel like, they're
- 21:48Christian holidays now being morphed into something that it
- 21:52wasn't. Yeah, it's not even a question.
- 21:55The the, you know, are running honor ring of Jesus.
- 21:58Honoring of his family origin is Noah, it's orange portal.
- 22:02Yeah, I've just because it's lost some Christian value.
- 22:06Yes. Doesn't mean that every no of
- 22:07course? Yeah but I mean when you think
- 22:09of Christmas now it's not a it's not a Christian holiday anymore
- 22:14and it's practice. She's like in this Theory and
- 22:16its origin. Yeah.
- 22:17Of course you know but what Hussein saying about the future
- 22:21of Islamic holidays, like it I mean firstly I don't ever
- 22:25personally speaking unless you live in a Muslim country, I
- 22:28don't foresee a time where it becomes like a non-muslim world
- 22:31and everyone in the country celebrate, doesn't it doesn't
- 22:33work like that here, but the point being is that my opinion
- 22:37like yeah, you've got to stimulate, we have to stimulate
- 22:39our children. We have system that our
- 22:40communities because we're going to people lose interest.
- 22:43It's as simple as that, should move on to a new topic.
- 22:46So I wanted to ask specifically on this Isa alaihi Salam things.
- 22:51Yeah, how do you feel about this?
- 22:54Because there's a lot of people who Like Muslims who say it's
- 23:00fine. Celebrity justify.
- 23:02Yeah, it's justification. How's that make you feel?
- 23:06I think they're misguided and that common sense because for
- 23:08most common sense, that's the magpie.
- 23:11Okay. Yeah, he's not born on the 24th
- 23:16of December Aslam Aslam actually he's not.
- 23:27It's actually concurred that it's on the 25th.
- 23:30I think it again, Shake Google, but I believe it was a holiday
- 23:37that was present around the Roman times and then it sort of
- 23:40bled in and, and so like we were discussing, you know, a lot of
- 23:45traditions, have sort of merged together.
- 23:47It's no longer held the revenants of, you know, you
- 23:52know, the prophet of God has been born on this day.
- 23:54It's so I think, as much Possums, though.
- 23:58I think showing a lack of respect whether we believe in
- 24:04all Christians views of prophet, Isa alaysalam as the Son of God.
- 24:08For example, obviously, we don't agree with that but by, you
- 24:13know, completely dismissing it or are we also then, you know,
- 24:18dishonoring, you know how fellow brothers, you know, I'll follow
- 24:22abrahamic Brothers, you know, you know, in the fact that
- 24:26they're Ring, you know, a prophet of Allah.
- 24:29So I think it's show respect, show kindness.
- 24:32Or what about? That's that's to know.
- 24:34Non-muslims. Yeah, there are Muslims who are
- 24:38not fully justification justifying.
- 24:39It is an excuse for not doing the same for most of, for
- 24:43example, in fact that I don't do it for us.
- 24:45Allah. I said I'll be very honest with
- 24:47you. I have seen Muslims from my own
- 24:49Community. Yeah, they'll pop up.
- 24:51That have a tree. Cut the turkey crack the
- 24:54crackers. Yeah, a lot of the be lots of
- 24:57living. A job silent.
- 24:58Yeah, nothing. That's very true.
- 25:00That's what's happening. Yeah.
- 25:02Community is finished. Honestly, I mean we've got so
- 25:05like that's what I mean. Don't let Christmas come at
- 25:07home? Yeah, not I mean let the bird to
- 25:10be honest. If not a lot of people like me
- 25:13and you guys as well we love to celebrate things.
- 25:15Okay. And I think in our Core last
- 25:17year that's that's something that's in us that we love
- 25:20celebration but we have so many muscle mean they him Salam.
- 25:25We have 49 degrees today. Salam.
- 25:27How many will add do? We got fire braids?
- 25:29We got five more leads. We have drama once a week which
- 25:32is we cut size 8 in our school of thought.
- 25:34But generally speaking, there's so much to celebrate.
- 25:37We have so many things to be grateful for.
- 25:39And if you want to talk about a mathematically, we're having
- 25:42Christmas, like will add art and, and celebrations, at least
- 25:46once, every three weeks and a calendar year.
- 25:48Think of it like that because you've got more than Twelve
- 25:51imams, you know what I mean? As in more than 12 months.
- 25:54So mean, and then obviously you've got the AIDS.
- 25:56I love that one. Has more than one of my
- 25:58celebration? Yeah.
- 25:59Yeah. I mean so Christmas is just like
- 26:02it's become a secular thing. Yeah.
- 26:03Except it okay. Fine.
- 26:05In my opinion like like, you know, respect it except the fact
- 26:09that other people celebrate. That's it to me to me, honestly,
- 26:11it's like Halloween. Okay, honestly, I know people go
- 26:14celebrate it. You know, they were, they want
- 26:17to go face pain or drink the alcohol everywhere happens on
- 26:19Halloween treat. I was going to bring the example
- 26:23now, even my daughter talks over the no trick-or-treating.
- 26:25Yeah. But if someone comes knocking,
- 26:30Don't turn that now I'm gonna give them candy.
- 26:32They're not here yet but we're not going to go out there trick
- 26:34or treat. Yeah the difference.
- 26:35Yeah no accepting and understanding was happy at
- 26:37around you completely different than going to doing it yourself.
- 26:40I think this is gonna be a divisive podcast, not gonna lie.
- 26:43I think people guys at home, if let us know how you feel, hit
- 26:45the comments, tell us how I feel.
- 26:47Do you go? Trick-or-treating do celebrate
- 26:49these things. I don't want what?
- 26:51I want me to make it even more. Controversial, sorry guys, I
- 26:54mean, I'm sure you guys all saw. I'm sure the viewers saw Or as
- 26:57well, the posts about in Saudi Arabia.
- 27:02They celebrated their first Halloween festival, people
- 27:07dressed as witches and wizards and it's very commonly see, you
- 27:12know, literally less than an hour drive or couple of hours
- 27:15drive from the Harem. They went above and beyond more
- 27:18than a. And so it raises a question.
- 27:21This is you know like we were talking about earlier, you know,
- 27:25are we are we Manipulating our own faith, our own culture to
- 27:30try and fit into the Western ideology and can that then bleed
- 27:34into our other things. Like I would either things, I
- 27:37think this conversation go forever.
- 27:39There's so many like counter-arguments there because
- 27:41obviously I'm students for example, a lot of them were
- 27:43larger, may say if you're not quite if your if your religion
- 27:47is not in question then it's fine.
- 27:48But it is Ariana me how a city or the you know the country
- 27:54where the Prophet brought the message of Islam to I We're
- 27:57celebrating a pagan holiday. All I'm saying, is I think
- 27:59there's going to be a lot of people who will say what's the
- 28:02problem. If I'm having a nice time, my
- 28:04kids having a nice time and we're taking part in society's
- 28:07Norms, you know? I mean without having to shake
- 28:09my belief or my religions, you know, what is it about?
- 28:12Building is, I think it's about building respect understanding.
- 28:16That's that's that's what we want to instill in our children.
- 28:19In the Youth of Tomorrow is respect and understanding not.
- 28:23Let's follow the Sheep. You know, not follow each other
- 28:26like cattle. I think it's and I think that
- 28:29will grow, you know, grow our community into the leaders of
- 28:34the world if we're not just following the Norms of what
- 28:37everyone's doing around us but be aware of what's going on
- 28:40around you. I think it's yeah it don't be a
- 28:42sheep, you know, unless I understand respect you know.
- 28:51So yeah it's I think it's affecting so I think that's why
- 28:59I was invited on this project. This is like a scale of the
- 29:03beard left for that. Remember, that guy's a few years
- 29:06ago we went out meet her saying and this is when I was like, you
- 29:10know, not as blessed as I'm not armed.
- 29:12Hopefully in our early 20s, I really really had like a light
- 29:16stubble and we took a picture three of us and her put her
- 29:19saying put on this around captioned it be as skilled 0 0
- 29:22to 100 and I think that applies today as well but surely he's
- 29:26got her goat beard. Wash Allah, but ya know, I think
- 29:30I think the wisdom. No, I think it's an interesting
- 29:35topic and it's definitely something I've discussed with,
- 29:38you know, friends family in the past and I mean, it can be
- 29:43divisive as we've already realized.
- 29:46But yeah. I mean, where, I mean, what
- 29:48else, what other things do you think it's factoring?
- 29:50I mean, for example, let's talk about this year.
- 29:52Specifically, part of the fact that for Tamir.
- 29:54Yeah, you know, is fooling with Thin this Christmas period, does
- 29:59it not then? Highlight to us the fact that,
- 30:03you know, the fact that our months are based on the lunar
- 30:05calendar and obviously the Western calendars is the solar
- 30:08calendar that if we're not prioritizing our own faith, then
- 30:14this will have it's not going to be the only time, you know, that
- 30:16far Tamia or perhaps a Muharram or, you know, you know, Ramadan
- 30:21maybe falling during this period.
- 30:23Know how are we gonna, how are we going to adjust?
- 30:25How can we say to our kids one? We're going to have a tree.
- 30:28We're going to have turkey. We're going to have this.
- 30:30We're going to have presents. And then next year, or by the
- 30:32way, we can't do it now because there's part of me.
- 30:34A. Yeah, I mean, how does that make
- 30:36sense? So yeah, that's like another
- 30:39thing. How?
- 30:39I mean, I know, I know of mushrooms that I've already got
- 30:42Christmas trees in the house, like, and then you're going to
- 30:44go to mosque for. I don't know.
- 30:47I mean, like, I'm not here to say whatever.
- 30:49I mean, I've been to my work Christmas dinner.
- 30:52So I'm just gonna put out their tracker.
- 30:55What, to be fair my My manager is a shi'a Muslims so so I was
- 31:01like it's alright. It's alright.
- 31:02It's a it's a it's a Muslim one, but yeah, not obviously catering
- 31:07to the staff that we have. Not everyone's a Muslim.
- 31:09So of course, you know you, you know, it's a time of year again
- 31:13that you give back to the people that, you know, that you work
- 31:16with and so nice time to spend together.
- 31:18So, but yeah, I like to mention the point of the our calendars
- 31:23clashing. Yeah.
- 31:24And I remember the couple of years ago, And Iraq.
- 31:28The entire world, the entire crew.
- 31:30She has an article through the churches a lot.
- 31:32Did not celebrate Christmas. Why?
- 31:34Wow are buying it clashed on their binding?
- 31:37Wow, I'll respect. That's about the biggest holiday
- 31:46that biggest season. Shout out to them mashallah.
- 31:49I mean, that should be a lesson to us, know here.
- 31:52Yeah, the fact that, you know, Christians who like we said
- 31:56their main Go ahead like for us, his Prophet Muhammad their main
- 32:00figurehead is probably the prophet Isa.
- 32:02So the fact that they can respect, you know, other
- 32:05people's culture, you know within the society they live.
- 32:10But again I think that's a respect of the society they live
- 32:13in. So I think it's for us as well
- 32:15as respecting the society we live in but having, you know,
- 32:19forming those those boundaries and those berries that
- 32:22understanding, I'm sure they would have had to explain to
- 32:24their children that, you know what?
- 32:26We live in this country here, you know, Aslam is the product
- 32:31problem predominant, religion and we respect our neighbors, we
- 32:35live together in harmony and so when it's, you know, a sad time
- 32:39for them, we're there for them when it's a happy time for them
- 32:42where they're from them and vice versa.
- 32:43Oh yeah. So you know that's a beautiful
- 32:46thing. I didn't know that.
- 32:47So yeah yeah. No of course I mean I mean if
- 32:50anyone's on sure we're recording this before faster mirror.
- 32:53Yeah that narration. So we are entering of course for
- 32:56That phase where Majora. This will start in a few days
- 32:59time and the Christmas isn't Christmas is still a few days
- 33:03away for us as well but it's important conversation to have
- 33:05from now because you know you're at that phase now everyone plans
- 33:09you know they're coming week and so on and we're recording on a
- 33:11Monday. So you start to think like you
- 33:14know what's going to happen this week.
- 33:15This weekend either go in modulus, we will celebrate
- 33:18Christmas or some people both maybe you know and its identity
- 33:23thing a big part of what we talked about the podcasters
- 33:25identity you know your Your religious, your spiritual, your
- 33:29social identity, all of these things.
- 33:31And this is a classic example of how hard it is.
- 33:35To be a Muslim in the west. That's that's what aftermarket
- 33:38rims about. It's about, we examine the
- 33:40challenges that Muslims face in the west, so we make it a lot.
- 33:44Come on program is easy. Its time is easier to have two
- 33:47topics like this. Yeah I think we are sometimes
- 33:49overcomplicate things. Yeah but I think like at a point
- 33:53just came to my head. I mean you know it doesn't it
- 33:56all come down to that I intention right?
- 33:58And here we do in Islam if you're yeah if you're near is
- 34:02not correct, it's not in the right place then there's no
- 34:05fruit in the action that you're doing.
- 34:07So as long as I near is clear, we're you know affirming that,
- 34:11you know, if you follow Satan's tyranny, you know I'm not doing
- 34:14XYZ or not doing x y z. Because I feel like it may or
- 34:18may not mean that I'm promoting or engaging with another
- 34:24religions belief system or in this case sometimes Pagan belief
- 34:28systems as long as the near is there, then I think it's it
- 34:35comes down to the individual. As long as you're not
- 34:37compromising your faith Islam has to come first.
- 34:41And if that's if that's the bottom line, then you decide
- 34:44Yeah, as long as you are, 100% sure that find if I do these
- 34:49things, Islam isn't coming. Second if you can truly say that
- 34:52to yourself, then fine. Yeah, but if you are starting to
- 34:55say, well, no, I'm actually compromising a bit on, you know,
- 34:58my stomach beliefs, because I'm not going to go to this party me
- 35:01and much less because I want to have turkey and and whatever
- 35:05with my friends and family, I don't know.
- 35:08I mean, not everyone has to go to mosque.
- 35:10I'm not saying that, but you can do you get where I'm coming
- 35:12from? Everyone should go.
- 35:15Yeah. I mean we're possible obviously
- 35:16not everyone has their own situation but yeah.
- 35:19No. I understand what you mean.
- 35:20Yeah, I think it's my chili has been eye-opening conversation.
- 35:24I've interest is been interesting, very interesting.
- 35:26I kind of feel more confused now than I did before.
- 35:29It was interesting, that all three of us have complete like
- 35:32different understanding to Christmas.
- 35:34Like, how is? Yeah, well, I'd end of the day,
- 35:36minimum in, in says, and we might for lunch.
- 35:38Yeah, yeah. Know, 100% that likewise, but,
- 35:41like you said, I'm saying, mahasabha has about, like, doing
- 35:44that. Self countability is very
- 35:45important. We know better.
- 35:46What we need says, remember Allah before during and after
- 35:48every action and it's not just your day to day minute by minute
- 35:52actions, but also your practices, you know, generally
- 35:55so if when you're deciding what to do and this goes faster as
- 35:59well and everyone at home, make sure you think about what you do
- 36:02before you do it. You know, it's a simple thing,
- 36:04it's easier said than done of course.
- 36:06But inshallah, we can put it all into practice and wherever you
- 36:09are around the world and Charlotte made this coming
- 36:12season of family time. And also So morning and learning
- 36:16and growth and development shalaby, one of blessing for you
- 36:19and for your family, you know, this is an opportunity we can
- 36:22find a way to. I think, collaborate that family
- 36:25and charitable side of Christmas with fought them here because of
- 36:28course, there's so many things that that go hand in hand, you
- 36:31know, the message say the vitamins are asking Allah Allah.
- 36:34And of course the family time and all of that stuff is like
- 36:38for like, you know yeah and you lost come and said they doing
- 36:42anything for your Christian Neighbors.
- 36:45To be really honest. I haven't thought about to be
- 36:48frank. I mean me, but I wouldn't mind.
- 36:50So, I mean I would happily I don't think I'd go out of my way
- 36:53to buy gifts in the past. I definitely wish them handed
- 36:55out cards work. You do it's like my rhyming
- 37:03drinks. He's saying that drink.
- 37:04He's quite a few of our neighbors came and gave us.
- 37:07Yeah, of course. Yeah so yeah.
- 37:09So yeah I think it's just returning.
- 37:11The favor showing hearts chocolate sits.
- 37:13It goes a long. Long way.
- 37:15It's a small gesture of respect. So yeah, goes a really long way,
- 37:19but no Christmas wreath. Do anything in front of your
- 37:22door? No.
- 37:22No. No plans with me and shall line.
- 37:27So we'll learn. Hopefully, this time next year,
- 37:30we will have this conversation again, shut the door.
- 37:33Yeah. Yeah, our guys hit that
- 37:36subscribe button. Enter the giveaway.
- 37:37Don't forget and inshallah. We will see you next week or
- 37:40somebody come. All right before I end saying,
- 37:43thank you very much. I think savings we did.
- 37:46Thank you say, well, I know thank you for coming.
- 37:52Honestly, it's been delightful. No, I've enjoyed it.
- 37:55It was, it was nice to have a sort of more relaxed, relaxed
- 37:59ish chat. Obviously it's an interesting
- 38:03topic and you know, can go on forever because there's all your
- 38:05more serious person than you more stories than your serious
- 38:08here today. No, when I move on, whenever I'm
- 38:10in front of the camera, I don't know.
- 38:12I'm a bout with no from the cameras in Then I'm a bit more
- 38:15chilled. Yeah, Justin, I used to live
- 38:18together. You want to let the listeners.
- 38:19Not. Yeah.
- 38:20We have to restart this podcast of our five minutes in why?
- 38:23Cuz they can't be together guys. I'm just saying right here.
- 38:27Right now, this guy was saying but Dolly, Masha Allah, he's the
- 38:31gem of a human being, but we have shed Too Many Memories in
- 38:37life that it's it's just crazy, you know, outside of Christmas.
- 38:41Yeah. Anyway guys, nice to see you.
- 38:48And again, thank you saying like say it and Charles will see you
- 38:51guys next week or something like home.
