- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up
- 0:05Speaker 1: Up next to you.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonia
- 0:10Speaker 2: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. Welcome to
- 0:13Speaker 2: our show and wow, don't we have a bunch of
- 0:16Speaker 2: incredible prizes up for grabs this week.
- 0:18Speaker 1: How about this $10,000 and we have clues now, Sonia.
- 0:22Speaker 1: We do,
- 0:23Speaker 2: and we also have a beautiful dining experience worth over $150.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Singapore's number one hit
- 0:28Speaker 1: music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: Holding the fort for a while as Sonny Chew gets
- 0:34Speaker 1: her morning coffee. Day two of a 4-day work week.
- 0:38Speaker 1: All we can say is hang in there. We've waited
- 0:40Speaker 1: quite a while for the next public holiday here in Singapore.
- 0:44Speaker 1: In case you don't know what we are celebrating or commemorating,
- 0:47Speaker 1: I think that's the correct word to use. That's Labor
- 0:50Speaker 1: Day on May 1st, Friday, and given how it's an
- 0:54Speaker 1: extra long weekend, if you played your cards right and
- 0:56Speaker 1: took leave and all that, again, our friends over at ICA,
- 1:00Speaker 1: they are putting out
- 1:01Speaker 1: An advisory saying, please, if you're going to the Causeway,
- 1:05Speaker 1: any of the Causeways could be Woodland tortoise, allow yourselves
- 1:09Speaker 1: more time because it's gonna be jammed, filled with Singaporeans
- 1:13Speaker 1: going to JB for a quick weekend getaway or maybe
- 1:16Speaker 1: even shopping or to spend time with family or loved ones.
- 1:19Speaker 1: So again, please do allow yourselves more time if you're
- 1:22Speaker 1: making plans to travel across the causeway to JB.
- 1:26Speaker 1: I wonder what the exchange rate is at right now.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Did you see him play mahjong with a bunch of uncles? Really? Yeah,
- 1:33Speaker 2: it was, it was part of like a shoot, but
- 1:36Speaker 2: it was so bold of this videographer and team, who
- 1:40Speaker 2: I think they may have worked with him before, but
- 1:43Speaker 2: they did a cold call like reach out. They said like, hey,
- 1:45Speaker 2: when you come down, I think if I'm not wrong,
- 1:47Speaker 2: it was Hong Kong. And they said, um, do you
- 1:50Speaker 2: think that he could stop?
- 1:51Speaker 2: By this iconic joint with a bunch of uncles and
- 1:54Speaker 2: just play around Mahjong. Yeah,
- 1:56Speaker 1: Hong Kong, they have plenty of mahjong
- 1:59Speaker 2: exactly. So that's, that's exactly what they did. And he
- 2:02Speaker 2: said yes. So he, he was part of that and
- 2:04Speaker 2: it was super cool. Wait,
- 2:06Speaker 1: can you tell if Central actually knows how to play mahjong?
- 2:09Speaker 2: Um, so apparently he has a bit of knowledge on
- 2:11Speaker 2: how to play. So they just needed to like refresh
- 2:14Speaker 2: him a little bit and he understood what was going on.
- 2:15Speaker 2: I'm like, Central.
- 2:18Speaker 2: Ken, I've been trying to understand mahjong for like, like
- 2:22Speaker 2: my whole life. You and I both, I cannot. It's
- 2:25Speaker 2: very challenging. I mean, I'm, I'm
- 2:26Speaker 2: slow.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I remember the only time I tried playing mahjong, this
- 2:30Speaker 1: was before COVID, and we had a house gathering. I
- 2:34Speaker 1: tried to learn. My friends gave up on me. They just.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Many combinations.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I know, I know,
- 2:40Speaker 1: and there are times where I actually won the game
- 2:43Speaker 1: without even knowing I've won the game already.
- 2:45Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So my other friend will be like, Hey, you won lah.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Put down lah.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Yeah, either that I'm taking too long to decide and
- 2:50Speaker 2: they just give up on me. So I feel you. Anyway,
- 2:52Speaker 1: we go from Hong Kong to Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, quite
- 2:56Speaker 1: near KL in the.
- 2:59Speaker 1: State or the coast of Selango, uh, you know, raw 95. Again,
- 3:04Speaker 1: a reminder to our fellow Singaporeans, we cannot pump
- 3:06Speaker 2: anymore. We know this. Yes, we should not be doing it. Yeah,
- 3:09Speaker 2: when
- 3:09Speaker 1: we come back, OK, a Singaporean car was spotted again.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Let's play a game later, OK. Guess the car model.
- 3:17Speaker 1: I
- 3:17Speaker 2: don't want to offend anyone.
- 3:20Speaker 2: But I'm not gonna lie, I do have one car
- 3:22Speaker 2: brand in mind.
- 3:23Speaker 1: OK, so over in Malaysia, again, it's an offense for
- 3:28Speaker 1: non-Malaysian cars to pump Ron 95. Yeah, we know this.
- 3:33Speaker 1: And also now the stores, it's an offense for the
- 3:36Speaker 1: stores to sell you if you're a non-Malaysian car, and
- 3:39Speaker 1: they can
- 3:40Speaker 1: tell
- 3:40Speaker 2: immediately, right, with your, I mean your number is right there.
- 3:43Speaker 2: So over
- 3:44Speaker 1: at.
- 3:46Speaker 1: Ron 95 was being pumped into a Singaporean registered car.
- 3:50Speaker 1: The authorities are now investigating. So given how it's the
- 3:53Speaker 1: Labor Day weekend happening very soon in about what, 32 days' time,
- 3:57Speaker 1: please don't go and throw Singapore's face. Don't pump RO 95.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Here's a game.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yes, no, I'm not gonna say, I'm not gonna say.
- 4:05Speaker 2: I'm just gonna think it and then you tell me
- 4:07Speaker 2: what the brand is, OK?
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Guess the car model.
- 4:11Speaker 2: I said I'm not gonna guess.
- 4:13Speaker 2: I'm gonna think it and then you're just gonna tell me.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Can you, can
- 4:16Speaker 1: you, uh, mouth for me?
- 4:18Speaker 1: You're absolutely right. OK. Again, which came first, the stereotype
- 4:25Speaker 1: or the behavior?
- 4:26Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us this morning. It's time for us
- 4:28Speaker 2: to open up phone lines. We, we always fondly call
- 4:30Speaker 2: this like our favorite time of the morning. We'd love
- 4:32Speaker 2: to hear from you the chance you get to give
- 4:35Speaker 2: your school a shout out. Tell us what's so great
- 4:37Speaker 2: about your school because as you know, Joakim and I, um,
- 4:40Speaker 2: you've seen some recent videos, we started visiting schools again.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Most recently, MGS. Hello.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And many more to come. So we would love for
- 4:47Speaker 2: you to give your school a shout out and see
- 4:49Speaker 2: whether we can make some arrangements.
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yesterday we actually had a teacher, Miss Evelyn Wu from St.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Gables Primary. She teaches maths and science, and her form
- 4:59Speaker 1: class is too self. Love it. She called in giving
- 5:02Speaker 1: them a shout out. So you could be a teacher, alumni,
- 5:05Speaker 1: even principal. Feel free to call us. You could
- 5:07Speaker 2: have just graduated. Like, you know how I'm a, you know,
- 5:11Speaker 2: I do a lot of alumni work for my school
- 5:12Speaker 2: as well. So I do go back to Saint Anthony's
- 5:14Speaker 2: quite a lot.
- 5:15Speaker 2: So if you're from any of these schools, any school
- 5:18Speaker 2: at all, give us a call. Doesn't matter if you're primary, secondary, poly, uni, ITE, whichever.
- 5:23Speaker 2: To which,
- 5:24Speaker 1: Sonia, given how we're doing this for almost 3 months
- 5:26Speaker 1: already and it's kind of taken off here on the show, I, I,
- 5:30Speaker 1: I feel this needs to have an official name and
- 5:33Speaker 1: like a jingle.
- 5:34Speaker 2: OK, we'll come up with one very soon. Call us
- 5:36Speaker 2: right now. Hello, my name is Darren. Hello Darren.
- 5:39Speaker 2: What's going on for you today? Which school are you from?
- 5:42Speaker 2: I'm from Hwa Chong Institution. Oh, I think this is
- 5:44Speaker 2: the first time that we're getting HCI.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Darren, how is life like inside Hwa Chong? I always
- 5:49Speaker 1: run past it. I'm very curious. The building looks beautiful,
- 5:52Speaker 1: by the way.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's very fun. It's like the campus is
- 5:55Speaker 2: very big, so there's a lot of things you can
- 5:57Speaker 2: do inside. What's your favorite part about your school? I like,
- 6:01Speaker 2: like the, the field because I can play.
- 6:03Speaker 2: sports there. Oh yeah, football.
- 6:05Speaker 1: OK, Darren, be honest, do you still get lost inside
- 6:08Speaker 1: our campus? Oh,
- 6:09Speaker 2: at the start, yes, I did. I'm sure it's huge.
- 6:11Speaker 2: It's massive. I've got plenty of friends from Hwa Chong,
- 6:14Speaker 2: and they always said the same thing. It was a
- 6:15Speaker 2: massive campus. OK, what song can we get you today
- 6:19Speaker 2: and who is it going out to? Um, can I
- 6:21Speaker 2: get any Ariana Grande song and it's going out to
- 6:23Speaker 2: my friends. Yeah, thanks for being my friend and thanks
- 6:26Speaker 2: for supporting me.
- 6:27Speaker 2: Darren, we hope to come by Hwa Chong Institution very soon, OK?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Take care, Darren.
- 6:31Speaker 1: See you. You know what, we're still on the back
- 6:33Speaker 1: of plenty of news from the London Marathon. Again, congratulations
- 6:37Speaker 1: to Sebastian Saway as well as his name. I'm trying
- 6:42Speaker 1: my best to make sure I pronounce it correctly. The
- 6:45Speaker 1: 2nd place, Yomi Kjelcha from Ethiopia, Sebastian's from Kenya.
- 6:51Speaker 1: 1 hour 59 minutes and 30 seconds and 1 hour
- 6:54Speaker 1: 59 minutes and 41 seconds.
- 6:56Speaker 2: I
- 6:56Speaker 2: think the general consensus of people who don't run, but
- 7:00Speaker 2: you know, just in general, people who are commenting saying,
- 7:03Speaker 2: can you imagine you hit sub 2 and you're number 2.
- 7:08Speaker 2: Like that's just insane.
- 7:10Speaker 1: I
- 7:10Speaker 1: mean they both deserve credit.
- 7:12Speaker 2: They
- 7:12Speaker 1: both
- 7:12Speaker 2: deserve it.
- 7:13Speaker 1: And shout out to Sebastian Vettel,
- 7:16Speaker 2: who ran his first marathon ever.
- 7:17Speaker 1: A sub 3 marathon on his first try. Well done.
- 7:20Speaker 1: And Cynthia Erivo. Yeah,
- 7:22Speaker 2: she also ran a
- 7:23Speaker 1: full 3 hours and 21 minutes.
- 7:26Speaker 2: That's pretty. This is a really good timing actually.
- 7:29Speaker 1: I have
- 7:29Speaker 1: newfound respect for her, but the video of her saying
- 7:32Speaker 1: that she has synesthesia and Jennifer Lawrence making fun of
- 7:36Speaker 1: her quite funny lah. OK, I know, I know. OK, we, we,
- 7:38Speaker 1: we go from that, and look, I'm super passionate about running.
- 7:42Speaker 1: I think Sonia has seen this one too many times already.
- 7:45Speaker 1: We go from that to the Singapore International Marathon. So
- 7:49Speaker 1: yesterday I'm very sure the organizing team was very busy
- 7:54Speaker 1: on their emails because, OK lah, to be honest, let's
- 7:57Speaker 1: call a spade a spade teething issues, and even I'm affected.
- 8:01Speaker 1: So what happened was when registering, firstly, it's 100.
- 8:05Speaker 1: $88 for the marathon this
- 8:06Speaker 1: year.
- 8:07Speaker 2: Is that more expensive than previous?
- 8:10Speaker 1: It's more expensive. It went up, but the organizers have
- 8:13Speaker 1: said that this is the static price, so it won't change.
- 8:15Speaker 1: So you register now or register in September, it will
- 8:18Speaker 1: still be $188.
- 8:20Speaker 2: It won't go up it won't either. Yeah, it won't drop. OK,
- 8:23Speaker 2: so not like concert tickets.
- 8:26Speaker 2: Some, some, not all,
- 8:28Speaker 2: some,
- 8:29Speaker 1: some festival, is it? OK, so what happened was, I
- 8:32Speaker 1: think people using the pay now function, yours truly.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Um, the bank showed the deduction. The bank showed that
- 8:39Speaker 1: the transaction is successful, but on the website it says
- 8:43Speaker 1: registration unsuccessful. So I think in a panic and wanting
- 8:47Speaker 1: to take advantage of the early bird discount, right? I
- 8:50Speaker 1: tried using my credit card. So that one went
- 8:52Speaker 1: through.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Wait, so there was an early bird? I thought you
- 8:55Speaker 2: said it was static.
- 8:56Speaker 1: There was
- 8:56Speaker 1: an early bird discount for those who registered interest early.
- 8:59Speaker 2: OK,
- 8:59Speaker 1: OK. So I think, uh, 5000 people were entitled to
- 9:02Speaker 1: the early 10% discount. That's all.
- 9:05Speaker 1: So, my credit card transaction went through and then it
- 9:07Speaker 1: said registration is successful, but now I overpay by 188
- 9:12Speaker 1: bucks
- 9:12Speaker 2: but they'll
- 9:12Speaker 2: refund you, I'm sure, right?
- 9:13Speaker 1: Yeah, to which the comment section on the BYD page
- 9:16Speaker 1: so
- 9:16Speaker 2: it wasn't just experience the same thing if they were
- 9:21Speaker 2: trying to pay pay
- 9:21Speaker 1: now to be
- 9:22Speaker 2: exact,
- 9:23Speaker 1: the comment section on the BYD Singapore International marathon page
- 9:26Speaker 1: or people
- 9:27Speaker 1: Guys, what's happening? You know, I, I paid 3 or
- 9:30Speaker 1: 4 times and I want my refund and all that.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. Yeah, so I think the organizers know
- 9:35Speaker 1: and they acknowledge it. So they put out a statement
- 9:37Speaker 1: saying that please contact us on this email, send a
- 9:40Speaker 1: screenshot over. We'll look into it the next 2 to
- 9:42Speaker 1: 3 days. So I'm very sure it's gonna be busy
- 9:44Speaker 1: times for our friends over there.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I
- 9:45Speaker 2: think they need to set up, as we always hear
- 9:48Speaker 2: this term task force.
- 9:50Speaker 2: To handle all the emails coming
- 9:52Speaker 2: through for refunds.
- 9:53Speaker 1: So that's number 1. Number 2 is people are saying, hey,
- 9:56Speaker 1: how come it's so expensive? So I was also a
- 9:59Speaker 1: little bit curious and I decided to go on a
- 10:01Speaker 1: price check, alright. So I'm gonna compare to the three
- 10:05Speaker 1: world majors that just happened, London, London, Boston, and Tokyo.
- 10:10Speaker 1: For London, yeah, and by the way, they have different
- 10:13Speaker 1: prices for international runners.
- 10:14Speaker 1: And local runners. London, if you're gonna go there and run,
- 10:17Speaker 1: it's $388. Sing. Tokyo Marathon, $293 and Boston Marathon, $331. OK.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Gold label races, the same category as the Singapore Marathon.
- 10:31Speaker 1: For Shanghai Marathon, it's $204. For Stanan Chart Dubai, it's
- 10:36Speaker 1: $191 for the full.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Marathon and the Houston Marathon, it's $204. Then you go
- 10:43Speaker 1: to High Rock Singapore. Those who can pay for High Rocks,
- 10:46Speaker 1: you cannot complain.
- 10:47Speaker 2: OK, OK. So, having, um, you know, been a participant
- 10:52Speaker 2: in both Rocks and marathons before, how much would you
- 10:55Speaker 2: say you spend on these sporting events in a year?
- 10:58Speaker 2: A lot. Just an estimate. You just give me an estimate.
- 11:00Speaker 1: I did 2 times this year.
- 11:03Speaker 1: I'm doing Garmin and I'm doing about the BYD Singapore marathon, right,
- 11:07Speaker 2: so just some quick, quick addition,
- 11:08Speaker 1: honestly, very close. I think I spent about 500 bucks
- 11:11Speaker 1: registering for runs already. Yeah, it's expensive. I, I don't
- 11:15Speaker 1: know why, but I, I somehow feel like, you know,
- 11:18Speaker 1: concert tourism.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah, they should have. I think they do actually.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I think they do.
- 11:23Speaker 2: They do. They have packages and stuff for
- 11:26Speaker 1: hotels. So by the way, prices are $196 for singles,
- 11:31Speaker 1: $180 for doubles, and $144 for a relay. Ah,
- 11:36Speaker 2: you see all the money I save not doing sporting events. Honestly,
- 11:40Speaker 2: you're not wrong. I, I can have like two Michelin
- 11:43Speaker 2: star meals with the money that I saved if you
- 11:45Speaker 2: want to marshmallow with Jonas Brothers slow motion.
- 11:48Speaker 2: right here on 987, which is something you might be
- 11:50Speaker 2: able to relate to in the morning. Do you find
- 11:52Speaker 2: that you are usually a bit slower when you don't?
- 11:56Speaker 1: When I wake up, my body's in instant shock, knowing
- 12:00Speaker 1: that I got to get to the studio in less
- 12:01Speaker 1: than 45 minutes. The
- 12:03Speaker 2: thing is the same, but it still takes my brain
- 12:06Speaker 2: to register, like a little while to register, but later
- 12:08Speaker 2: on during this hour, of course, 100 up for grabs.
- 12:11Speaker 2: But first, in just a few minutes, I feel like
- 12:14Speaker 2: this one Joakim may be able to relate to a
- 12:16Speaker 2: little bit.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Why is it always me?
- 12:19Speaker 2: Which part of your body aches most of the time,
- 12:22Speaker 2: may I ask?
- 12:25Speaker 2: OK, here's why. Because Joking will come into the studio
- 12:28Speaker 2: and he'd be like, this pain, that pain, don't know what,
- 12:30Speaker 2: aching like.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I know I'm pushing 40 in 2 years. I'm 38
- 12:34Speaker 2: this year, OK, OK, yes, but not yet. You're still 37.
- 12:37Speaker 2: The rumor
- 12:38Speaker 1: is real. After you turn 30, it's all downhill, your back,
- 12:43Speaker 1: your legs, and all that, OK.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I, I self-inflict my leg stuff because I run a lot,
- 12:50Speaker 1: so my, my calves sometimes will be a bit tight,
- 12:52Speaker 1: but
- 12:54Speaker 2: yes,
- 12:55Speaker 1: so I was gonna say my lower back sometimes
- 12:59Speaker 2: my lower back is killing me.
- 13:02Speaker 2: And then sometimes you complain about your pillow got a problem,
- 13:04Speaker 2: your neck, your shoulder. He will come in with like
- 13:07Speaker 2: a lot of aches and
- 13:08Speaker 2: pains
- 13:09Speaker 1: sometimes need to invest in laps or massaging chairs. How
- 13:13Speaker 1: about that?
- 13:13Speaker 2: And
- 13:14Speaker 2: do the show at the same time. I know how,
- 13:16Speaker 2: how on earth will we do that? Work
- 13:17Speaker 1: smart,
- 13:18Speaker 2: not hard. So only, only 22 of us will be
- 13:21Speaker 2: able to, only the co-DJ and the DJ. So everyone
- 13:23Speaker 2: else will just sit on normal chairs, is it?
- 13:26Speaker 1: We can share.
- 13:27Speaker 2: We share. Coming up in a few minutes, find out
- 13:30Speaker 2: what experts are saying about the aches and pains of Singaporeans. There's, yes,
- 13:36Speaker 2: there's 5 everyday habits that we're doing that could possibly
- 13:40Speaker 2: be contributing aside from your.
- 13:42Speaker 2: Self-inflicting, you know, pain of running and all that, yeah. OK,
- 13:46Speaker 2: but find out what regular Singaporeans who may not be
- 13:48Speaker 2: marathon runners are also experiencing a lot of aches and pains.
- 13:51Speaker 2: And it's so funny because sometimes Joakim will come into
- 13:54Speaker 2: the studio and talk about his aches and pains, and
- 13:56Speaker 2: I know that you do a lot of sports as well.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Um, I don't get as many aches and pains, I guess,
- 14:01Speaker 2: because I don't subject myself to any intense sports to
- 14:04Speaker 1: the point where there's a massage ball,
- 14:06Speaker 2: yes, in a, in your locker
- 14:08Speaker 1: in my locker, but between you and me, you're the
- 14:12Speaker 1: one that uses it the most for your shoulder pain.
- 14:15Speaker 1: There's a video of you that I have.
- 14:16Speaker 2: Oh yes, I bought that. So what happened was I
- 14:20Speaker 2: did like a
- 14:20Speaker 2: Really tough Pilates, um, session the day before and then, yeah,
- 14:25Speaker 2: it strained my arm and
- 14:26Speaker 1: shoulder watching you do it by the way. So,
- 14:28Speaker 2: what happened recently is that I guess a lot of
- 14:31Speaker 2: experts are saying there's been more and more people coming
- 14:34Speaker 2: in for aches and pains and muscle-related problems, OK. One
- 14:39Speaker 2: of the main reasons is the rise in racket sports
- 14:41Speaker 2: here in Singapore. So you're using your dominant arm a lot, right?
- 14:46Speaker 2: Like your, your right arm or your left arm, whichever
- 14:48Speaker 2: it is, and um,
- 14:50Speaker 2: Even things like pickleball, people are picking up tennis now,
- 14:53Speaker 2: you know, there's been a rise in people trying to
- 14:55Speaker 2: play tennis again because of paddle, I'm guessing, um, or
- 14:58Speaker 2: even badminton or whatever. So there could be a disparity
- 15:01Speaker 2: now between your right and your left. Yeah, I guess
- 15:06Speaker 2: people have tennis elbow, um, but that one I think
- 15:08Speaker 2: it could be, I'm not an expert, but that one
- 15:10Speaker 2: I think if you've accumulated a lot more time playing
- 15:13Speaker 2: racket sports, maybe that could be a thing.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Um, so even our experts from hospitals are saying there's
- 15:18Speaker 2: been a lot of muscle imbalance cases coming in right now,
- 15:22Speaker 2: tightness everywhere, people also carrying a bag on the same
- 15:25Speaker 2: shoulder all the time. They're encouraging you to switch sides.
- 15:29Speaker 2: If you, yeah, do you? I thought you carry a
- 15:31Speaker 1: backpack. I'm on the left. Oh,
- 15:33Speaker 2: you sling it on one side.
- 15:34Speaker 1: On my left, yes.
- 15:35Speaker 2: So you get aches on your left side, I'm guessing.
- 15:37Speaker 1: And if I were to relax and stand, you can
- 15:39Speaker 1: see a little bit of a tilt.
- 15:40Speaker 2: And this one.
- 15:41Speaker 2: Sleeping on the same side every night. I have a
- 15:45Speaker 2: feeling Joakim does this. Do you? Are you a side sleeper?
- 15:48Speaker 1: I'm a side sleeper. I knew it, but I toss
- 15:50Speaker 1: and turn. OK, OK. So after maybe two hours, my
- 15:53Speaker 1: body knows to turn.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Oh, good. OK, good. I sleep like a corpse.
- 15:59Speaker 2: Which apparently is a good thing according to, so I, I,
- 16:04Speaker 2: I can go to bed in the same position. I
- 16:07Speaker 2: wake up in the same position, like maybe just a
- 16:10Speaker 2: bit of movement in my leg or my arm, but
- 16:11Speaker 2: I don't sleep on my side. Who would have thought? Hey,
- 16:12Speaker 2: hey
- 16:12Speaker 1: hey, yes.
- 16:16Speaker 2: So normally I wake up with no aches at all, like,
- 16:19Speaker 2: not to show off lah, but, but usually I don't
- 16:22Speaker 2: get any aches.
- 16:24Speaker 1: No aches at all.
- 16:26Speaker 2: Just a little update on what the experts are saying now.
- 16:29Speaker 2: Main contributors, racket sports and sleeping on the same side
- 16:33Speaker 2: of your bed, uh, same side of your body all
- 16:36Speaker 2: the
- 16:36Speaker 2: time.
- 16:36Speaker 1: Can I also be an expert and say this?
- 16:38Speaker 2: Yes, what were you,
- 16:39Speaker 1: physiotherapist, sports masseuse, and all your orthopedic surgeons, they are making.
- 16:46Speaker 2: They are, they are
- 16:47Speaker 1: because of.
- 16:48Speaker 1: Your high rocks and all that, people are having back pains, guys,
- 16:51Speaker 1: your skier form, please watch your lower back. Don't blow
- 16:55Speaker 1: it out. Trust me on this one. Yes,
- 16:58Speaker 2: yes, I don't seen videos. I've never tried, but yes,
- 17:01Speaker 1: try a skier.
- 17:02Speaker 2: This is why I don't want to do. If you
- 17:05Speaker 2: injure myself or what?
- 17:06Speaker 1: If you do it with proper form, you have someone
- 17:09Speaker 1: guiding you, and on race day you remember these things,
- 17:11Speaker 1: nothing will go wrong.
- 17:13Speaker 2: OK, if you say so, if you say so, but
- 17:16Speaker 2: the safer option is to not.
- 17:19Speaker 1: 87 secret.
- 17:24Speaker 1: that sound.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Good morning, 97. I'm
- 17:28Speaker 2: Wei. Hello Wei. How are you today? Are you feeling
- 17:31Speaker 2: extremely lucky that 100 could be yours? Well, I hope so.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I wish for that. What will you do with the
- 17:36Speaker 2: money if you win? Treat my family a good
- 17:38Speaker 2: trip
- 17:38Speaker 1: overseas. Alright. Oi, so you heard the.
- 17:41Speaker 1: Clues. Again, let me recap for you. Found at home,
- 17:44Speaker 1: more specifically the kitchen. So hopefully your answer is along
- 17:49Speaker 1: those lines, alright, and it gets you $10,000.
- 17:52Speaker 2: OK, now listen carefully. I'm going to play you the
- 17:54Speaker 2: sound one more time.
- 17:58Speaker 2: For $10,000 what is your answer? It's the kitchen analog
- 18:03Speaker 2: timer that looks like a chicken. Kitchen analog timer that
- 18:07Speaker 2: often looks like a chicken. It's your final answer. Yeah,
- 18:10Speaker 2: that's right. Let's find out.
- 18:13Speaker 2: You are incorrect.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Your chance to play
- 18:16Speaker 2: 987's secret sound continues.
- 18:21Speaker 1: That
- 18:23Speaker 1: That's not the answer we're looking for, but thank you
- 18:26Speaker 1: for giving us a guess that's in line with the clues.
- 18:30Speaker 2: Keep trying, OK? Sure, thank you. Alright, have a nice day. Bye-bye.
- 18:35Speaker 2: One sound,
- 18:35Speaker 1: one guess, win.
- 18:42Speaker 2: OK, let's go.
- 18:43Speaker 1: When it comes to mall revamps and renovations, I'm going
- 18:47Speaker 1: to say pertaining to our friends over at Plaza Singapura,
- 18:52Speaker 1: about time. Oh,
- 18:54Speaker 2: you
- 18:54Speaker 2: think so. OK. What are the plans?
- 18:56Speaker 1: OK, so I've been going there since I was a kid.
- 19:00Speaker 1: So you know how they now have a new wing
- 19:02Speaker 1: of Plaza Singaporea.
- 19:03Speaker 1: OK, I won't say new, relatively new, but the main building,
- 19:07Speaker 1: the structure, the layout, it's still the same. My, my
- 19:11Speaker 1: dad used to work at Spotlight. So every time if
- 19:13Speaker 1: I have time, I'll go and see him and say hello.
- 19:15Speaker 1: I'll go to Golden Village, watch a movie and all that.
- 19:18Speaker 1: The layout and some of the stores, I'm very happy
- 19:21Speaker 1: to say they're still there. They, they survived the test
- 19:24Speaker 1: of time.
- 19:25Speaker 1: But yeah, it needs a breath of fresh air. I'm
- 19:27Speaker 1: sure and given how it's such a prime placement doby
- 19:30Speaker 1: Ghaut spot of Plaza Sing, it needs to have a
- 19:34Speaker 1: breath of fresh air and look new and look more modern.
- 19:38Speaker 2: I agree, I agree. So did they say what's the timeline,
- 19:41Speaker 2: like when is it gonna be ready and what, what
- 19:43Speaker 2: are they going to change specifically?
- 19:44Speaker 1: So they are looking at starting renovation works the third
- 19:47Speaker 1: quarter of this year all the way to 2028, but
- 19:51Speaker 2: 2028, but it's in phases
- 19:53Speaker 1: in phases.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Oh, thankfully,
- 19:55Speaker 1: they are renovating or going through a revamp the stores
- 19:57Speaker 1: will still be open. I mean,
- 19:58Speaker 2: it's
- 19:59Speaker 2: kind of like what's happening over at Robertson Key right now. Like,
- 20:02Speaker 2: you know, they're doing it. Well, not the entire Robertson
- 20:05Speaker 2: Key is being affected and
- 20:07Speaker 2: The stores that have been shut due to the renovations
- 20:10Speaker 2: have shifted somewhere else in Robertson Quay or around Mohammad Sultan, yeah.
- 20:15Speaker 1: So the
- 20:15Speaker 1: closest comparison I can give the revamped Plaza might look
- 20:20Speaker 1: like it's what the revamped cafe looks like a little.
- 20:25Speaker 1: LED screens
- 20:26Speaker 2: and plants
- 20:27Speaker 1: inside. There's some indoor greenery and these are all artists impressions.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yes. But I, I, I wonder whether if
- 20:34Speaker 2: you're tuning in right now, are there other malls around
- 20:38Speaker 2: you or that you frequent that you feel really would
- 20:42Speaker 2: be in desperate need of renovation or an upgrade?
- 20:47Speaker 1: Heartland areas
- 20:48Speaker 2: could
- 20:48Speaker 2: be heartland, could be anywhere around town. OK.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Far East Plaza, it is an institution, right? You know,
- 20:54Speaker 2: it's been there for the longest time. I know that
- 20:56Speaker 2: they've tried to upgrade certain things like the, the elevators,
- 20:59Speaker 2: the lift, you know, like these important things, the toilets
- 21:03Speaker 2: as well, they've revamped them.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Um, I would say I like how rustic it looks,
- 21:07Speaker 2: and that's pretty cool, but the tenants I feel need
- 21:11Speaker 2: to be revamped a little, yeah. So
- 21:13Speaker 1: you are thinking more of the tenants.
- 21:19Speaker 2: I like the grungineness of it, but I wonder whether it,
- 21:22Speaker 2: you know, makes people hesitant to go in. I don't know.
- 21:24Speaker 1: OK, yeah, that's for you in town. For me, I'm
- 21:27Speaker 1: gonna go Heartlands lah. I think next.
- 21:30Speaker 2: Siglap Center. Now that you go Heartlands, right, you go
- 21:34Speaker 2: into the neighborhoods. Siglap Center, man. No, seriously, like I
- 21:38Speaker 2: remember Siglap Center fondly as a kid.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Is that the one with the McDonald's there? Yeah,
- 21:42Speaker 2: and McDonald's is still there.
- 21:43Speaker 1: Yes,
- 21:44Speaker 2: Ful Fullin also still there. Yes, um, Siglap Center, classic,
- 21:48Speaker 2: you know, vintage looking. I remember my dad bought my first, uh,
- 21:52Speaker 2: Pikachu's cookie toy from this mama shop there last time. Yeah,
- 21:56Speaker 2: I remember that.
- 21:57Speaker 2: And I think there were like comics and stuff at
- 21:59Speaker 2: that mama shop too. They have not revamped Sigal Center since.
- 22:03Speaker 2: So now Siglap Center is mostly, you still have the,
- 22:07Speaker 2: you still have the McDonald's and the Subway, um, you
- 22:10Speaker 2: have like optical shops. There's a florist that's been there
- 22:12Speaker 2: for a long time, which I love, and then inside
- 22:15Speaker 2: a lot of clinics. That's about it, yeah.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Now here's why I feel that our friends over at
- 22:19Speaker 1: Next to revamp and before people at Serangoon, K, Buangkok,
- 22:24Speaker 1: Boon all come for me.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Uh, the layout of the mall, right? I think there
- 22:29Speaker 1: needs to be more
- 22:29Speaker 2: escalators. Oh yeah, I'm always quite confused there just to
- 22:32Speaker 1: get to the NTUC I gotta walk one big round
- 22:36Speaker 1: and go up,
- 22:37Speaker 2: you know, this is, uh, intentional, right? I think to
- 22:41Speaker 2: make you look at the other shops. No, no, no,
- 22:43Speaker 2: I really think that that could be a psychological thing.
- 22:45Speaker 2: They're like, oh, they intentionally put a one so that
- 22:48Speaker 2: you will browse all the other shops.
- 22:50Speaker 1: OK, again, people are.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Saying there's never a good time to go to Next,
- 22:53Speaker 1: I agree. But the, the, the tenant
- 22:56Speaker 2: is
- 22:58Speaker 1: is very good.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. OK, give us a call, 669-11987. Just a disclaimer,
- 23:04Speaker 2: by the way, um, Secret Sound is over. No one
- 23:06Speaker 2: won this morning. OK, so just letting you know first.
- 23:08Speaker 2: I know some people are still trying to win 100
- 23:10Speaker 2: right now. Phone lines have not stopped ringing, but call
- 23:12Speaker 2: us right now, 669-11987. Which mall here in Singapore?
- 23:17Speaker 2: Do you personally feel could use a bit of refresher
- 23:22Speaker 2: or renovation? Let us know.
- 23:24Speaker 1: The question is, would they be given a 160
- 23:27Speaker 1: million dollars budget?
- 23:27Speaker 2: They gotta raise it somehow, I don't know. Yeah. Um,
- 23:30Speaker 2: but in exchange, we would love to give you this
- 23:32Speaker 2: beautiful dining experience worth 150
- 23:36Speaker 1: dollars to Greenwood Fish Market over at Sentosa's quayside aisle,
- 23:40Speaker 1: a perfect place for a date or just a chill
- 23:42Speaker 1: spot at night. Yeah, just
- 23:43Speaker 2: people watch.
- 23:45Speaker 2: Watch the boats that we'll never own, you know, that
- 23:47Speaker 2: kind of stuff, yeah. Talking about the malls here in
- 23:50Speaker 2: Singapore that may need a little bit of a refresher.
- 23:53Speaker 1: So the Plaza Singapura building, not the, not the newer wing,
- 23:57Speaker 1: is the left-hand side one nearer to the Istana.
- 24:00Speaker 2: Yes, I know, I know which
- 24:01Speaker 1: one it is. It's gonna go through a $160 million revamp.
- 24:05Speaker 2: So that's the one with the cinema ad, right? Yes.
- 24:08Speaker 2: So they're gonna revamp the cinema too, the one with
- 24:10Speaker 1: Five Guys as well.
- 24:11Speaker 2: OK, OK, revamp
- 24:12Speaker 1: everything, the whole thing,
- 24:13Speaker 2: the whole thing.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Maybe install a park connector from Plaza Sing to the
- 24:16Speaker 1: Istana Park connector. OK, I can walk. OK, can.
- 24:21Speaker 1: I don't think they will. It's a security risk, I know, dude.
- 24:24Speaker 2: But
- 24:25Speaker 1: can you imagine the people who work in Istana to
- 24:27Speaker 1: go to Plaza Sing, they got to go out the
- 24:29Speaker 1: main gate,
- 24:30Speaker 2: right,
- 24:31Speaker 1: then turn left and go to the
- 24:32Speaker 1: mall. Well,
- 24:33Speaker 2: is there a side gate? So maybe they can't tell us. OK,
- 24:36Speaker 1: there's a
- 24:36Speaker 2: back
- 24:36Speaker 1: gate.
- 24:36Speaker 2: I'm
- 24:37Speaker 1: sure there is the Novena side. Yeah, there you go. OK.
- 24:40Speaker 1: On WhatsApp, I want to say good morning to you, Garish.
- 24:43Speaker 1: Gary says, morning, sojo. I agree with Joim that Next
- 24:46Speaker 1: needs a revamp.
- 24:48Speaker 1: As a whole, to look more colorful rather than the
- 24:51Speaker 1: current white interior, you know, the mall needs a revamp,
- 24:54Speaker 1: and the bus interchange is also getting a revamp. Also, Joakim,
- 24:57Speaker 1: there is a shortcut to the NTUC by taking the
- 25:00Speaker 1: lift between May Bank and the bus interchange to Level 3.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I know, but the lifts the lift,
- 25:05Speaker 2: yeah,
- 25:05Speaker 2: yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Speaking of which, I almost got
- 25:09Speaker 2: stuck in a lift yesterday. I forgot to tell you.
- 25:12Speaker 1: Is this a
- 25:13Speaker 2: mall or no, um, another thing that could need upgrading
- 25:17Speaker 2: that's not related to malls, you know, those industrial buildings
- 25:21Speaker 2: and light industrial buildings where we do a lot of
- 25:23Speaker 2: like photo shoots and video shoots at those really need revamps.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Some of the lifts, I literally almost got started. I
- 25:29Speaker 2: was panicking, you know. It was scary. Yeah. So yeah, anyway,
- 25:33Speaker 2: one
- 25:33Speaker 1: more coming.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Are
- 25:35Speaker 2: you imagining stuck in a lift.
- 25:38Speaker 1: One more coming in from Jay. Morning soldier. The mall
- 25:40Speaker 1: I think that needs a revamp of facelift is Neon City,
- 25:44Speaker 1: Takashimaya being the center of Singapore in a tourist shopping spot,
- 25:48Speaker 1: their toilets are very bad.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Old and dated, like you can literally see cracks and
- 25:54Speaker 1: stains all over the sinks. They can do better. OK.
- 25:56Speaker 1: That's Jay's opinion. But the one thing about Neon City,
- 25:59Speaker 1: you know, the Civic Plaza, the big open space, need
- 26:03Speaker 1: to be so big, you know. Maybe put a stage
- 26:05Speaker 1: there or something, a permanent.
- 26:07Speaker 2: They do, they do rent that out for certain things.
- 26:10Speaker 2: I actually feel like the fact that they have that
- 26:13Speaker 2: amount of space there could have started with a bit
- 26:15Speaker 2: of a feng shui thing. Maybe, maybe that's why.
- 26:17Speaker 2: retain the space. And
- 26:18Speaker 1: I remember quite some time ago, the Media Corp Subaru.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Oh yeah,
- 26:22Speaker 2: that was a while ago. Yeah, yeah. Well, I'll keep
- 26:26Speaker 2: your stories coming through and you can also call us 669-11987.
- 26:30Speaker 2: Which malls here in Singapore or buildings in general need
- 26:35Speaker 2: an upgrade and a bit of a renovation? Let us
- 26:38Speaker 2: know and talking about malls that desperately need a revamp,
- 26:41Speaker 2: going to our messages first before.
- 26:43Speaker 2: on the line. Want
- 26:44Speaker 1: to
- 26:44Speaker 1: say good morning to Wen Yi who just texted us.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Morning guys. Forum in Orchard looks very dated to me,
- 26:53Speaker 1: but maybe it's a high SES aesthetic. I don't understand.
- 26:57Speaker 1: As a parent with a pram, it's painful to head
- 27:00Speaker 1: to Vivo. Love the mall, but forever start waiting for
- 27:02Speaker 1: the lift as well. So Forum and Vivo. Hey, Forum
- 27:06Speaker 1: used to be the mall I go to for Toys
- 27:07Speaker 1: R Us, man.
- 27:08Speaker 2: Yeah, they have a lot of.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Kid stuff there I think that's why
- 27:11Speaker 1: back then there used to
- 27:11Speaker 1: be like a very kid friendly hair salon called Fantastic Sam's.
- 27:16Speaker 1: My mom would bring me there to it and the
- 27:18Speaker 1: mascot is like an orange hairball. Did,
- 27:20Speaker 2: did you look fantastic after?
- 27:22Speaker 1: I mean, I
- 27:22Speaker 1: remember crying all the time.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I hated,
- 27:25Speaker 1: I hated my hair being cut for some reason as
- 27:27Speaker 1: a
- 27:27Speaker 1: kid.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah, you wanted it like
- 27:29Speaker 1: luscious. Like the moment I walk into a forum, it's
- 27:32Speaker 1: either my biggest nightmare or my biggest dream.
- 27:35Speaker 2: So she either forces you to get.
- 27:36Speaker 2: Haircut and then buys you a toy. Toys R Us.
- 27:39Speaker 1: That
- 27:39Speaker 2: was
- 27:39Speaker 1: the butter tray,
- 27:40Speaker 2: you know. OK, Sean is on the line. What about you, Sean?
- 27:42Speaker 2: Which mall desperately needs renovation? Have you been to a
- 27:46Speaker 2: place
- 27:46Speaker 1: called Boon Lay Shopping Center?
- 27:48Speaker 2: No, I've never
- 27:49Speaker 2: been.
- 27:49Speaker 1: I don't live near there.
- 27:51Speaker 2: I don't think either one of us have. Tell us
- 27:54Speaker 2: more about Boon Lay Shopping Center and why does it
- 27:56Speaker 2: desperately need a revamp. I think you should change the name.
- 27:59Speaker 1: It should be
- 28:00Speaker 1: called Boon Lay Neighborhood Center because
- 28:03Speaker 1: The place is non-aircon.
- 28:05Speaker 2: It's very,
- 28:05Speaker 1: very hot.
- 28:07Speaker 2: When you go to level
- 28:08Speaker 1: 2, plenty of massage shops around. It's crazy, man.
- 28:14Speaker 1: OK, Shawn, the massage parlors over there, legit ones or
- 28:19Speaker 1: the naughty ones? No, no, no, no, no, the sleazy ones.
- 28:25Speaker 1: You see. Singapore's war against massage parlors is still
- 28:27Speaker 1: going on.
- 28:28Speaker 2: Shawn, if you see police raid at Boon Lay Shopping Center,
- 28:31Speaker 2: it's your fault.
- 28:34Speaker 2: The shock. Um, we are talking about the malls that
- 28:36Speaker 2: desperately need some sort of refresher or renovation
- 28:40Speaker 1: inspired by Plaza Singapura, about to go through a $160
- 28:45Speaker 1: million revamp. Yeah,
- 28:47Speaker 2: exactly,
- 28:47Speaker 1: and alongside the Atrium at Orchard as well. Want to
- 28:50Speaker 1: say good morning to Eileen. Morning, Sonia and Joakim. Bugis Junction.
- 28:55Speaker 1: Really needs a revamp, especially the toilets. They're so old
- 28:59Speaker 1: and yellowish, and there are quite a few corroded pipes
- 29:02Speaker 1: leaking dirty water. The shopping area still looks OK, but
- 29:06Speaker 1: the toilet, I really cannot. Yeah, OK. I was gonna say, Eileen,
- 29:10Speaker 1: if Bugis Junction takes your idea, please renovate, but make
- 29:14Speaker 1: sure you keep the Tapan Express.
- 29:17Speaker 2: I think maybe, OK.
- 29:18Speaker 2: Usually for shopping malls, the first thing that they should
- 29:21Speaker 2: look into would be to refresh the toilets because that's
- 29:24Speaker 2: the one thing that's being used a lot like every
- 29:26Speaker 2: single day. So they should start with that. I don't
- 29:28Speaker 2: think it will immediately affect the tenants, you know, it shouldn't,
- 29:31Speaker 2: it shouldn't.
- 29:33Speaker 1: This one I'm kind of on the fence about. John says,
- 29:37Speaker 1: I think Queensway Shopping Center desperately needs a.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Huge revamp in terms of space layout and the variety
- 29:44Speaker 1: of tenants. It's like walking through a time tunnel back
- 29:46Speaker 1: to the past. At the moment, the vibe is pretty gloomy,
- 29:49Speaker 1: and that is what makes Queensway Shopping Center
- 29:52Speaker 2: Queensway Shopping Center, yeah, right, right. I mean,
- 29:55Speaker 1: I used
- 29:55Speaker 1: to go there to buy sports shoes and also my
- 29:57Speaker 1: outdoor gear and all that.
- 29:58Speaker 2: Yeah. People still do that, but it's still known as
- 30:01Speaker 2: the place to go to for sportswear, right? Yes, but
- 30:03Speaker 2: I think there.
- 30:04Speaker 2: It could be a way of um revamping it without
- 30:08Speaker 2: ruining the aesthetic entirely because it is nice to step
- 30:11Speaker 2: back in time sometimes as we say, right? It could
- 30:13Speaker 2: start with things like the air conditioning because you know
- 30:15Speaker 2: that musty like smell in old shopping malls, um, that
- 30:20Speaker 2: could be one other place I wanted to uh to
- 30:22Speaker 2: to raise up, People's Park Complex. Wait, which one is it?
- 30:28Speaker 2: People's Park. There's two, right? People's Park Shopping Center and
- 30:31Speaker 2: People's Park.
- 30:32Speaker 1: The one with the car park.
- 30:34Speaker 2: They all have car parks.
- 30:35Speaker 1: The car park that you go and take your Instagram
- 30:37Speaker 1: shots at.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Oh, I don't know what which one that is. That's
- 30:40Speaker 2: People's Park shopping,
- 30:41Speaker 1: but basically the Chinatown
- 30:42Speaker 1: area,
- 30:43Speaker 2: both, I think both could use a revamp, yeah, in
- 30:45Speaker 2: more like of a hygiene way.
- 30:47Speaker 1: It's funny you said that. Someone texted in. OK, see,
- 30:51Speaker 2: similar era, guys.
- 30:52Speaker 1: All the
- 30:53Speaker 1: feng shui stalls and the religious stalls must change.
- 30:55Speaker 1: is it?
- 30:56Speaker 2: That honestly is part of the experience. And what's going
- 31:01Speaker 2: on in the Marina Barrage area?
- 31:03Speaker 1: OK, so public service announcement to runners, cyclists, walkers, people
- 31:09Speaker 1: going on romantic strolls and all that picnics, picnics, barrage
- 31:13Speaker 1: is OK.
- 31:14Speaker 2: OK.
- 31:14Speaker 1: It's the bridge. So, OK, fine. I, I, I call
- 31:17Speaker 1: it the ovarian route.
- 31:20Speaker 1: When I do the run,
- 31:22Speaker 2: it
- 31:22Speaker 1: does look a little bit
- 31:23Speaker 1: like one year, if you know, you know, but so
- 31:26Speaker 1: usually the crossing point from Gardens by the Bay East
- 31:29Speaker 1: to Marina Barrage, there's this little bridge that all of
- 31:31Speaker 1: us take. It links you to Marina Barrage, but I
- 31:34Speaker 1: think there's some construction works going on or maybe some
- 31:37Speaker 1: renovations or what. So do take note, they are closed
- 31:42Speaker 1: but open for limited times only to let people cross.
- 31:46Speaker 1: So they start works from 9 a.m.
- 31:49Speaker 1: And it goes all the way till 11 p.m. So
- 31:51Speaker 1: 11 p.m. to 9 a.m. you can cross whenever you want,
- 31:55Speaker 1: but from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. they open at
- 31:58Speaker 1: certain timings only.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Wait, so the bridge is the one under construction construction
- 32:03Speaker 2: on the
- 32:03Speaker 1: bridge renovations.
- 32:07Speaker 2: So the bridge is safe to cross. Yeah, yeah,
- 32:10Speaker 1: it is. So yesterday I ran there and I got
- 32:13Speaker 1: there around 7:50. I was wondering why there was a
- 32:15Speaker 1: crowd of people, cyclists and all that waiting for the
- 32:17Speaker 1: gates to open.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Then I realized, oh, got some works going on. So
- 32:21Speaker 1: at 8:00 p.m. sharp, the gates will open. People are
- 32:24Speaker 1: cycling across the bridge, running across the bridge, and at
- 32:26Speaker 1: 8:10 p.m. they close it again. Then 9:00 p.m. they open,
- 32:30Speaker 1: 9:10 they'll close
- 32:31Speaker 2: it. Yeah, I mean, look, it's a that's for sure
- 32:33Speaker 2: because you get, you get some nice unblocked views, you know,
- 32:38Speaker 2: of the sky, just the scenery. It's
- 32:41Speaker 1: nice. So just if you're crossing the bridge, make sure
- 32:44Speaker 1: you go and time it properly.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 32:47Speaker 2: Heads up, although I don't remember the last time I
- 32:49Speaker 2: crossed that bridge. Yeah,
- 32:50Speaker 1: so the works on till I think 30th of April.
- 32:54Speaker 1: So I think 1st of May will be perfect for.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Oh, fantastic. We have that ticket blitz happening on our
- 33:00Speaker 2: show this coming Thursday, I think.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Thursday.
- 33:06Speaker 2: Yeah, every show, every show will have a chance. So anyway,
- 33:09Speaker 2: now time for some unfortunate food
- 33:12Speaker 1: news. I got to sing it sadly. Here we go. 123.
- 33:16Speaker 1: News news. Sonia with sad news. Give it to us.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Which Chinese New Year store
- 33:24Speaker 2: is closing? Not exactly just CNY, but I don't think
- 33:28Speaker 2: Joakim may know this, although I've seen this quite often.
- 33:31Speaker 2: Come surprise me. Um, so I've received gifts from them.
- 33:34Speaker 2: I mean, not directly from them, like clients or like
- 33:36Speaker 2: people who send it over for, let's say, uh, Mid-Autumn
- 33:39Speaker 2: Festival or CNY or any sort of like festive gifting.
- 33:43Speaker 2: Hong Kong's famous.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Bakery. Unfortunately, closing here in Singapore after 5 great years here.
- 33:51Speaker 2: They're super famous for their traditional mooncakes, cookies, things like
- 33:56Speaker 2: love letters, stuff that you can find during CNY. So
- 33:59Speaker 2: maybe you've unknowingly tried their stuff if you've visited friends'
- 34:02Speaker 2: houses or you know, you ate something here in the office.
- 34:05Speaker 2: Perhaps maybe. Yeah, I think you might have. Um, actually,
- 34:09Speaker 2: on the 24th of April, they shuttered their only physical
- 34:13Speaker 2: store here in Singapore at Ion Orchard.
- 34:15Speaker 2: And they did post it on Instagram. They said, after
- 34:17Speaker 2: the joy of serving in this wonderful city, we're closing
- 34:20Speaker 2: the doors of our shop, although not forever, we hope.
- 34:24Speaker 2: Kiwah began with a simple idea to make something good
- 34:26Speaker 2: and share it, and Singapore took us in, made us
- 34:29Speaker 2: feel at home, and gave us countless connections over moon cakes,
- 34:33Speaker 2: lao popping, you know, wife cakes, those traditional quays and
- 34:36Speaker 2: all that egg rolls, pastries shared amongst friends and family.
- 34:40Speaker 2: So they said.
- 34:40Speaker 2: It's been an honor and hopefully it's not goodbye forever.
- 34:43Speaker 1: You said 5
- 34:44Speaker 1: years. That means they opened in 2021 here in Singapore
- 34:47Speaker 1: during COVID times, yeah.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Was that during COVID at the tail end I think
- 34:52Speaker 2: was it
- 34:53Speaker 1: 2021 was the Delta, then the Omicron variant. Oh, Omicron, Omicron.
- 34:59Speaker 1: I
- 34:59Speaker 2: forgot it. Um, well, you know, hopefully it's not goodbye
- 35:04Speaker 2: because they gave us plenty of good memories.
- 35:06Speaker 2: I think actually opening during that time in Singapore was
- 35:08Speaker 2: not a bad idea. You know why? People were using
- 35:11Speaker 2: gifting services to like send stuff to people. So I
- 35:15Speaker 2: think they, they boomed during that time. So thank you
- 35:17Speaker 2: for the memories, guys. They continue to operate internationally across
- 35:21Speaker 2: Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Macau, and the US. no longer
- 35:25Speaker 2: no longer here in Singapore, unfortunately. Makes you
- 35:27Speaker 1: wonder why, but OK, about time we spoke about him.
- 35:32Speaker 1: Wait, are you aware of whatever happened at the White
- 35:36Speaker 1: House Correspondents' Dinner? Yes, yes, yeah, yeah. So the attempted
- 35:40Speaker 1: shooting and all that, right? So that's President Donald Trump
- 35:43Speaker 1: and the First Lady Melania Trump and of course the
- 35:46Speaker 1: Vice President and all them. They were evacuated as seen
- 35:48Speaker 1: in the video footage and all that. But First Lady
- 35:52Speaker 1: Melania Trump has taken to Twitter. She's broken her silence,
- 35:57Speaker 1: and she has targeted one person.
- 36:00Speaker 2: The suspect?
- 36:01Speaker 1: Not exactly.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Not the suspect. You ready for this? Yes.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Late night TV show host
- 36:07Speaker 2: Jimmy Kimmel.
- 36:08Speaker 1: Jimmy Kimmel.
- 36:09Speaker 2: What did he do?
- 36:10Speaker 1: Find out why in just a bit here on the
- 36:12Speaker 1: shock circuit and just putting a disclaimer here, Jimmy Kimmel's
- 36:17Speaker 1: jokes were made before the White House correspondents' Dinner. Oh really?
- 36:24Speaker 2: Wait, so was it a bit of, it almost seemed
- 36:26Speaker 2: like a foreshadowing like a
- 36:28Speaker 1: premonition.
- 36:29Speaker 1: So the White House correspondents' Dinner turned out to be very,
- 36:34Speaker 1: very eventful and it was also a huge safety risk.
- 36:37Speaker 1: Thankfully nobody was hurt except the suspect, of course. Uh,
- 36:40Speaker 1: but unfortunately or fortunately for Melania Trump, she's broken her silence,
- 36:46Speaker 1: and as always when it comes to President Trump or
- 36:48Speaker 1: Melania or even people who support the Make America Great
- 36:52Speaker 1: Again movement, whatever comments they put out, it will polarize
- 36:56Speaker 1: the internet. You either like it or you agree with
- 36:58Speaker 1: it or you don't.
- 37:00Speaker 1: For Melania Trump, she's saying that Jimmy Kimmel doesn't deserve
- 37:03Speaker 1: a space to come into the homes of American audiences
- 37:06Speaker 1: every night because of what Jimmy Kimmel said, and this
- 37:10Speaker 1: happened before the White House Correspondents' Dinner. So Jimmy Kimmel
- 37:13Speaker 1: was spoofing it, was doing a parody, he was doing
- 37:16Speaker 1: like intercuts of footage of the president and first lady.
- 37:20Speaker 1: And then he said this. Oh, First Lady Melania Trump,
- 37:23Speaker 1: you're here. You have the glow of an expectant widow.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Oh
- 37:27Speaker 2: no. And he said this before, before the incident.
- 37:31Speaker 1: It was recorded like sometime last week before the White
- 37:34Speaker 1: House Correspondents' Dinner.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Oh no.
- 37:37Speaker 1: And then after what happened, the segment aired.
- 37:41Speaker 1: There you go.
- 37:41Speaker 2: But you know what, I have to say they are
- 37:43Speaker 2: very brave because in the US, I mean, obviously the
- 37:47Speaker 2: rules and the laws are very different, um, freedom of
- 37:49Speaker 2: speech and all that. They literally TV show hosts and
- 37:52Speaker 2: all that, they can say whatever they want. But I
- 37:55Speaker 2: will say this, they also take on a huge risk
- 37:58Speaker 2: by doing skits like that,
- 37:59Speaker 1: you know. So now people who support Melania Trump and
- 38:02Speaker 1: President Trump are calling for Jimmy Kimmel to be fired.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Again,
- 38:06Speaker 2: well, he's faced this many times, I'm sure actually.
- 38:09Speaker 1: OK, you and me, and we appreciate humor, we love humor.
- 38:14Speaker 2: Sometimes he does satire and all that, right?
- 38:16Speaker 1: Do you think this one crossed the line?
- 38:19Speaker 1: Should the producers have gone, OK, you know what, too
- 38:21Speaker 1: close to home. Let's pull this joke out. A little
- 38:23Speaker 2: bit sensitive, especially when it comes to, you know, issues
- 38:26Speaker 2: about death and all
- 38:27Speaker 1: that. Yeah, but, but what do we know?
- 38:29Speaker 2: We don't. That's the thing. So we have nothing much
- 38:31Speaker 2: to comment about, you know. But it almost seems a
- 38:33Speaker 2: bit like a Simpsons situation. Exactly, so creepy me the chills.
