- 0:00Speaker 1: Normally I say third and final hour of the program.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Here in the case of today, i'll say first and
- 0:05Speaker 1: final hour of the program. We popped on just a
- 0:08Speaker 1: few minutes ago because of the length of the Round
- 0:11Speaker 1: Rock Express game. It did not go well for the
- 0:13Speaker 1: Express this afternoon. They lost at home to the Oklahoma
- 0:15Speaker 1: City Commets sixteen to two, but they can.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Began the home stand.
- 0:19Speaker 1: It'll continue tomorrow night seven o'clock Dollar Hot Dog Night
- 0:24Speaker 1: out there, so it'd be a great night for baseball there.
- 0:27Speaker 2: It's a great night for baseball here as.
- 0:29Speaker 1: The Texas Longhorns will be in action against the Huskies
- 0:34Speaker 1: of Houston Christian University, So that'll be coming up tonight
- 0:39Speaker 1: and you'll be able to hear that contest here on
- 0:42Speaker 1: thirteen under the zone six fifteen of the pregame start time.
- 0:45Speaker 1: The first pitch at six point thirty, Keith Morret a
- 0:47Speaker 1: little joining for the call of that. Cameron Parker's are
- 0:51Speaker 1: producer back in the studio. Can you might have got
- 0:52Speaker 1: a kick out of this during the break here at
- 0:55Speaker 1: the top of the hour, and they were rolling through
- 0:57Speaker 1: some things on the video board here at the ballpark,
- 1:02Speaker 1: and one of the things was video of Jique Stewart
- 1:07Speaker 1: his home run on Saturday, So obviously that was your call.
- 1:10Speaker 2: So your call was booming through the ball Oh.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, you said something. I think you said that
- 1:18Speaker 1: ball is gone or something like that. Yeah, I think
- 1:19Speaker 1: said that's out of here. Okay, that's out of here.
- 1:21Speaker 1: That's what it was, and that ball was out of
- 1:23Speaker 1: here and it was just it was just booming throughout
- 1:26Speaker 1: the ballpark there. So your voice is being heard this afternoon,
- 1:29Speaker 1: even though even if you can't be here this afternoon.
- 1:32Speaker 2: That's that's awesome to hear that day.
- 1:35Speaker 3: All right.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Speaking of voices, let's hear from long orange Head football
- 1:38Speaker 1: coach Steve Sarkeshan. I had a media availability this morning
- 1:42Speaker 1: with spring practice underway. Let's first ll bringing the opening
- 1:45Speaker 1: statement from coach sark.
- 1:48Speaker 3: Missed.
- 1:48Speaker 4: You guys can see you. You know, this is a
- 1:52Speaker 4: this is a fun time of.
- 1:53Speaker 5: Year for us right now is a program in that
- 1:56Speaker 5: we just finished up practice number seven, so this actually
- 2:00Speaker 5: halfway through spring practice. And to watch the growth of
- 2:04Speaker 5: a lot of players in the program. You know, we
- 2:08Speaker 5: challenged everybody, you know, who we were a year ago,
- 2:12Speaker 5: isn't going to be kind of acceptable? Who are going
- 2:15Speaker 5: to be this year, and so everybody has to take
- 2:18Speaker 5: their game to another level. And it's easy to point
- 2:20Speaker 5: to the twenty two high school kids who are here
- 2:23Speaker 5: midyear and where they need to grow to, but it's
- 2:26Speaker 5: also looking at players that are going from year two
- 2:28Speaker 5: to year three and it's not just their play, but
- 2:32Speaker 5: maybe it's their leadership. And so everybody's got growth and
- 2:36Speaker 5: so to watch that evolution here seven practices in UH
- 2:40Speaker 5: has been has been a lot of fun for me.
- 2:43Speaker 5: You really feel like we're we're drilling back into a
- 2:46Speaker 5: lot of teaching. Obviously, we've got some new faces on
- 2:49Speaker 5: the coaching staff as well, and so personalities have adjusted,
- 2:53Speaker 5: have shifted, where's the energy coming from on the staff,
- 2:56Speaker 5: all those types of things, And I think that's the part.
- 2:59Speaker 5: You know, you go into year five and it's like
- 3:02Speaker 5: it's never rinse and repeat, you know, it's never just no,
- 3:04Speaker 5: let's just do the same thing all over again, whether
- 3:06Speaker 5: that's schematically, culturally, you know, how we motivate the players,
- 3:10Speaker 5: how how we teach who's responsible for what.
- 3:14Speaker 4: And so from a head coach's perspective, that's that's the
- 3:16Speaker 4: fun part.
- 3:16Speaker 5: And it all you know of watching everybody grow, watching
- 3:19Speaker 5: the personality, this team start to come to life. And
- 3:23Speaker 5: there's been some really good positive things that have that
- 3:25Speaker 5: have occurred so far. There's been areas where we definitely
- 3:28Speaker 5: need to improve, and that's understandable. You know, when you're
- 3:31Speaker 5: when you're seven days into spring practice, you know there's.
- 3:34Speaker 4: A plenty of room for growth right now.
- 3:37Speaker 5: But but I can ever question the work ethic, uh,
- 3:40Speaker 5: the passion, how hard our guys are going right now
- 3:42Speaker 5: and so uh. But but we're a far, far, far
- 3:45Speaker 5: ways away from a finished product right now.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Now.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Naturally, a lot of the questions in a spring practice
- 3:50Speaker 1: are going to be about freshmen or red shirt freshmen
- 3:53Speaker 1: or even transfers, but young guys in the program. And
- 3:57Speaker 1: Sark was asked, is there room for say, a young
- 3:59Speaker 1: guy on the roster to have a no so so spring,
- 4:03Speaker 1: you know, not just off the charge, not awful, but
- 4:06Speaker 1: it's so so spring, and not worry about losing his
- 4:09Speaker 1: spot on the team.
- 4:10Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, I think the biggest thing we're looking
- 4:12Speaker 5: for in spring right now is is growth. Like I said,
- 4:16Speaker 5: I don't expect anybody to be a finished product at
- 4:19Speaker 5: the end of spring practice. And these are these are
- 4:23Speaker 5: really valuable reps that a lot of young players are
- 4:26Speaker 5: getting right now and we're forcing it on them and
- 4:28Speaker 5: we're really you know, we have we've we're not too
- 4:31Speaker 5: spotting anything right now.
- 4:32Speaker 4: We're on one field.
- 4:33Speaker 5: I get a chance to see every player, every snap,
- 4:35Speaker 5: every play.
- 4:38Speaker 4: But as long as there's incremental growth.
- 4:40Speaker 5: That that gives you, that gives a little foresight into
- 4:43Speaker 5: the future of of kind of the learning curve, the
- 4:47Speaker 5: the the physical makeup of the game, the speed of
- 4:50Speaker 5: the game, things of that nature. And just because a
- 4:53Speaker 5: guy maybe doesn't show at all right now, doesn't mean
- 4:56Speaker 5: that he can't.
- 4:56Speaker 4: In the fall. And maybe it's going to take a year,
- 4:59Speaker 4: right And we.
- 5:00Speaker 5: We've had plenty of players who have been developmental players
- 5:03Speaker 5: in our program that has taken a year or two
- 5:05Speaker 5: that have grown into really good.
- 5:06Speaker 4: Players for us.
- 5:08Speaker 5: But that's that's where the evaluation is so critical right
- 5:11Speaker 5: now of assessing maybe what a projecting what a player
- 5:16Speaker 5: can be down the road. And sometimes we're not getting
- 5:19Speaker 5: the best of their physical ability right now either because
- 5:22Speaker 5: there's so much going on right there's learning, there's what's
- 5:25Speaker 5: happening on defense or what's happening on offense. There's you know,
- 5:28Speaker 5: the wheels can can turn pretty good right now to
- 5:30Speaker 5: where that inhibits some of the physical ability to expose
- 5:34Speaker 5: itself to So just try to be mindful of all
- 5:37Speaker 5: those things. But you know, clearly some young players are
- 5:39Speaker 5: going to have to play for us as fall, and
- 5:42Speaker 5: it's managing the expectations of who those might be.
- 5:45Speaker 4: And it's very early right now. Maybe guys that aren't
- 5:48Speaker 4: going to be there.
- 5:49Speaker 5: In week one, but we're going to need in November
- 5:52Speaker 5: and December too, right, And so I think we would
- 5:55Speaker 5: be making a grave mistake to, you know, cast just
- 6:00Speaker 5: on anybody right now. Right it's it's staying focused on
- 6:04Speaker 5: growth and are we getting better from one day to
- 6:06Speaker 5: the next at some real small fundamentals, some small details,
- 6:10Speaker 5: some things that you know they can they absorb installation
- 6:14Speaker 5: and then go out and apply it, and then here
- 6:16Speaker 5: comes another installation. Can they apply that but also go
- 6:19Speaker 5: back to that previous installation and still apply those things.
- 6:22Speaker 5: So there's a lot we're evaluating on a lot of players.
- 6:25Speaker 5: But but you know, this is the most young players
- 6:28Speaker 5: we've ever had at one time in spring practice, so
- 6:30Speaker 5: it's it's been a little bit different for us.
- 6:32Speaker 2: All right.
- 6:32Speaker 1: There's some thoughts from Logrn's head coach Steve Sarkis and
- 6:35Speaker 1: we're gonna hear some more from Sark coming up again
- 6:37Speaker 1: a little bit later on this hour, Ty Herron Kennell
- 6:40Speaker 1: join me. We'll talk from college baseball, but we'll continue
- 6:43Speaker 1: from UFCU dish fault field. I'm thirteen hundred the zone
- 6:47Speaker 1: to the text line where somebody asks, is Share related
- 6:50Speaker 1: to coach Sark For those of you didn't know Share
- 6:53Speaker 1: the you know, iconic music singer, star actors share. Her
- 6:58Speaker 1: last name is sarkis Uh. The answer to the Texters
- 7:02Speaker 1: question is no, they are not related. That that is
- 7:04Speaker 1: a question that has been asked of Sark in the past,
- 7:08Speaker 1: and they are not related. But she does have the
- 7:10Speaker 1: same name, Uh, Sarkisian. Speaking of which, let's hear some
- 7:14Speaker 1: more from coach sark Uh. This from this morning's media
- 7:17Speaker 1: availability following the spring practice EI. There's seven practices in
- 7:22Speaker 1: and we talked about the transfers coming in that includes
- 7:25Speaker 1: along the defensive front, where he was asked if he's
- 7:27Speaker 1: seen so far what he has wanted to see from
- 7:30Speaker 1: his defensive tackle transfers.
- 7:32Speaker 5: Yeah, they've they've been been really nice additions for us.
- 7:35Speaker 5: You know, I think you know, I think Cole. You
- 7:38Speaker 5: can feel his experience. You know, he's a really stout
- 7:40Speaker 5: guy inside. He's played a lot of football. You know,
- 7:44Speaker 5: I think I think Travis, you know, we're kind of
- 7:47Speaker 5: monitoring him.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I don't want to overdo it.
- 7:49Speaker 5: You know, he's had a knee that that has lingered
- 7:52Speaker 5: throughout his career some, so we're working him in and
- 7:55Speaker 5: Hero has been a great addition, you know. So I
- 7:57Speaker 5: think those three guys have been really nice additions for us,
- 8:00Speaker 5: along with the young players that have been in there.
- 8:02Speaker 5: So a lot of new faces to go along with,
- 8:05Speaker 5: you know, the growth of an Alex January and a
- 8:07Speaker 5: Melviyn Hills, So a lot of new faces in there.
- 8:11Speaker 2: You know.
- 8:11Speaker 5: Coach Baker's done a really nice job of kind of
- 8:13Speaker 5: integrating them all, you know, with some guys moving on
- 8:16Speaker 5: and what that looks like. And so but again they're
- 8:18Speaker 5: they're like the rest of the team, you know, they're
- 8:20Speaker 5: not a finished product yet. And there's you know, there's
- 8:23Speaker 5: some schematic things that then some of the new transfers
- 8:26Speaker 5: are learning. For the younger players, there's fundamentals, there's technique
- 8:31Speaker 5: and scheme going on. So again, we're definitely fighting for
- 8:35Speaker 5: more consistency across the board up front, but you see
- 8:39Speaker 5: the flashes of what I think we can be down
- 8:42Speaker 5: the road.
- 8:42Speaker 1: All right, from defense to offense. Remember what the long
- 8:46Speaker 1: worms are losing at receiver, losing Isaiah Bond and obviously
- 8:50Speaker 1: losing Matthew Golden as well. So there's a lot of
- 8:54Speaker 1: younger guys getting a chance to improve. And Sark was
- 8:56Speaker 1: asked what he is seeing right now from those younger receivers.
- 9:00Speaker 5: Yeah, you know, with with Dre and and Ryan being out,
- 9:02Speaker 5: it's created an awesome opportunity for some young for some
- 9:05Speaker 5: young players, and where they're running with the ones and
- 9:10Speaker 5: the twos. You know, whether it's it's Jamie, it's Callique,
- 9:13Speaker 5: it's Parker, it's it's Dylan McCutcheon, and and these guys
- 9:17Speaker 5: are getting some just like I said, valuable valuable reps.
- 9:20Speaker 5: You know, Uh, Dre and Ryan are working themselves back
- 9:24Speaker 5: kind of into it. But again I'm I'm not in
- 9:27Speaker 5: a real rush. I know who DeAndre Moore is. You know,
- 9:30Speaker 5: I know what he's made of.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Uh.
- 9:33Speaker 4: You know, he's had.
- 9:33Speaker 5: Good rapport with Arch from last season when Arch played.
- 9:36Speaker 5: I know who Ryan Wingo is. He was having a
- 9:38Speaker 5: really good spring before he kind of tweaked his hammy
- 9:41Speaker 5: and and he'll be back. I'm not concerned about those
- 9:43Speaker 5: two guys. Jordan was off to a good start. Unfortunately,
- 9:47Speaker 5: you know, how had a collarbone issue that we'll get
- 9:50Speaker 5: back here. You know, bones take what they take to heal.
- 9:52Speaker 5: You know, it's not a it's not a ligament issue
- 9:54Speaker 5: or anything like that. So it's gonna take a minute.
- 9:57Speaker 5: But again, that's created an opportunity form Winston to get
- 10:00Speaker 5: more reps, you know, Spencer Shannon to get more reps,
- 10:03Speaker 5: and so you know, that's.
- 10:05Speaker 4: All part of it.
- 10:06Speaker 5: That's why we have to continue to recruit towards depth.
- 10:09Speaker 5: As much as we're trying to recruit high level players,
- 10:11Speaker 5: we're trying to recruit towards depth knowing what.
- 10:14Speaker 4: The season entails.
- 10:16Speaker 5: You know, I think we got a real taste of
- 10:18Speaker 5: that last year with playing sixteen games. It would have
- 10:21Speaker 5: taken seventeen to win the whole thing. We need to
- 10:25Speaker 5: make sure that we are really solid or as solid
- 10:27Speaker 5: as we can be one through three on a depth
- 10:30Speaker 5: chart at any position.
- 10:31Speaker 4: And so whether it's receiver.
- 10:33Speaker 5: Right now or tight end right now, that some of
- 10:35Speaker 5: these guys are maybe getting a few more reps especially
- 10:37Speaker 5: with their group, maybe up from where they would normally be.
- 10:40Speaker 5: It's a good thing, you know. I really look at
- 10:42Speaker 5: it that way, that we're finding out a lot about guys.
- 10:45Speaker 5: We're finding out their competitive spirit, We're finding out about
- 10:49Speaker 5: their retention of information. We're finding out about how they
- 10:52Speaker 5: respond to adversity that maybe we would have to wait
- 10:55Speaker 5: for some of those growing pains in season.
- 10:58Speaker 4: We're kind of getting in the front now with spring prack.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Oh hey, think about this.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Now we are one opening statement and three full questions
- 11:07Speaker 1: into a media availability before anyone even asked Sark about
- 11:13Speaker 1: Arch banning.
- 11:14Speaker 2: We'll stand by because here it comes.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Somebody's asked about or asked Sark about Arch's competitive spirit.
- 11:21Speaker 1: You know, when he knew he was going to be
- 11:23Speaker 1: the backup and was in there being competitive even as
- 11:26Speaker 1: Quinn yours was the starting quarterback. How does that alter
- 11:29Speaker 1: or adjust or modify now that he knows he's the
- 11:32Speaker 1: starting quarterback going yet?
- 11:33Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 11:34Speaker 5: No, I think Arch is a naturally competitive guy, you know,
- 11:37Speaker 5: and I've said this before, He's got a very infectious personality.
- 11:41Speaker 4: I think people gravitate to him.
- 11:44Speaker 5: And one of the things I see right now is,
- 11:46Speaker 5: you know, naturally you know, he's leading a group of
- 11:49Speaker 5: maybe some younger players, especially the skill spots, you know,
- 11:52Speaker 5: at the wide out spot. His confidence I think helps them.
- 11:55Speaker 5: His understanding, his ability to connect to those guys in
- 11:59Speaker 5: between series and talk to him has been helpful. But
- 12:02Speaker 5: I also see a competitive spirit affecting the defensive side
- 12:07Speaker 5: of the ball. I think they like competing against Arch.
- 12:09Speaker 5: I think they know, you know, he's gonna talk a
- 12:11Speaker 5: little smack to him, He's gonna have fun with it.
- 12:14Speaker 5: And I think that's bringing out some you know, kind
- 12:17Speaker 5: of some personality in an Anthony Hill or a Manny
- 12:20Speaker 5: Muhammad or a Michael Taff, some guys who have played
- 12:23Speaker 5: a lot of football, and they're thinking, here comes another
- 12:25Speaker 5: spring practice and wins the next game. And it's not
- 12:28Speaker 5: for months down the road, but yet every day is
- 12:30Speaker 5: a game. Every day is competitive because they know sixteen's
- 12:34Speaker 5: going to bring it and if he gets him, he's
- 12:35Speaker 5: gonna let him know about it.
- 12:37Speaker 3: All right?
- 12:38Speaker 2: And what more about Arch?
- 12:40Speaker 1: And this has to do about everything that surrounds being
- 12:45Speaker 1: Arch Manning, the you know, the fame, the family, the name,
- 12:50Speaker 1: all of the other stuff that surrounds that, and has
- 12:53Speaker 1: Sark had to have any conversations with Arch about handling
- 12:57Speaker 1: all of that peripheral stuff.
- 13:00Speaker 4: The boo the booze, because the boos are gonna come
- 13:02Speaker 4: here pretty soon too.
- 13:05Speaker 5: I love our fans, They love the they love the
- 13:07Speaker 5: backup quarterback, but they hate interceptions, so that those are coming.
- 13:12Speaker 5: I think the good thing for Arch is he's been
- 13:14Speaker 5: exposed to a lot. You know, it's no secret who
- 13:18Speaker 5: his family is. It's no secret who his uncles are,
- 13:21Speaker 5: who his grandpa is, who his dad is, you know,
- 13:23Speaker 5: I mean they. I think he's been exposed to a
- 13:26Speaker 5: lot and handling himself in a way I think is
- 13:30Speaker 5: important to him, you know, finding a tight knit circle
- 13:35Speaker 5: of people that are that that is his crew of
- 13:37Speaker 5: guys to hang with, and people to hang with that
- 13:40Speaker 5: he can trust. I think that's important that you don't
- 13:43Speaker 5: overly expose yourself. But in the end, I think, you
- 13:47Speaker 5: know what a benefit he's had of just growing up
- 13:49Speaker 5: and seeing it in real time of of kind of
- 13:52Speaker 5: how to handle himself, how to conduct himself.
- 13:54Speaker 1: All right, there's some more thoughts from Longhorn's head coach,
- 13:58Speaker 1: Steve Sarkisian talking about Art there. We have more of
- 14:02Speaker 1: that coming up, and we'll talk from college baseball Here
- 14:04Speaker 1: at usc U dish Fogg Field. It is Texas and
- 14:07Speaker 1: Houston Christian six fifteen pre games, starting time six thirty,
- 14:10Speaker 1: first pitch Keith Morton a little twenty for the call,
- 14:12Speaker 1: and you'll hear the game right here on thirteen under
- 14:14Speaker 1: the zone.
- 14:15Speaker 6: I was thinking about you the other day because something
- 14:18Speaker 6: came up about music and I left out one of
- 14:23Speaker 6: my all time favorite singers. Yeah yeah, Bob Zeer, Absolutely yeah.
- 14:28Speaker 6: And you know what I missed out. He was in
- 14:30Speaker 6: Austin two years ago, his last show and we got
- 14:33Speaker 6: tray and I missed it.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And I took Linda to that show and she had
- 14:40Speaker 1: she knew about Bob Seeker, but she had, and then
- 14:43Speaker 1: she was like, yeah, I'll go.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Whatever's you going to? She said, Oh I know this song?
- 14:46Speaker 3: Yeah, Oh I know this song.
- 14:47Speaker 2: So she wound up having a good time there.
- 14:48Speaker 1: It was absolute rock and roll, legend, rock and roll
- 14:51Speaker 1: Hall of famer as well. All right, I wanted to
- 14:54Speaker 1: jump into this and get your thoughts on several things.
- 14:57Speaker 1: She worked the Texas Series of the week in against Georgia.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I asked Jim Schlasnagel, and we're gonna hear from Schloss
- 15:05Speaker 1: in the pregame talking about this this whole dealing with
- 15:08Speaker 1: prosperity thing, and you've been around it and you coached it.
- 15:12Speaker 1: And when your team comes off a big weekend like
- 15:16Speaker 1: they had, uh, you know, how do you go back
- 15:19Speaker 1: to the business in hand? And asked him, you know,
- 15:20Speaker 1: do you and your coaching staff kind of watch your
- 15:23Speaker 1: guys in terms of the body language and all that
- 15:25Speaker 1: sort of stuff?
- 15:25Speaker 2: And he said, yeah, And obviously you would.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Rather have that than come off losses to that, But
- 15:32Speaker 1: it's yet another piece of the coaching thing, isn't it,
- 15:35Speaker 1: to deal with your guys dealing with a success.
- 15:38Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:38Speaker 6: And you know what, when I was young, a younger coach,
- 15:41Speaker 6: it was harder because I got caught in it too.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Oh yeah, yeah, one hundred percent.
- 15:46Speaker 6: You don't know it, but all of a sudden you are,
- 15:50Speaker 6: and you do, and your staff is the same way,
- 15:54Speaker 6: and so you have to keep Now they're not. I'm
- 15:57Speaker 6: just saying early in my career, I found myself once
- 15:59Speaker 6: I had a chance to reflect on it. So point
- 16:01Speaker 6: being to your question, yes, one of the hardest things
- 16:04Speaker 6: to do is to come back. How do you repeat
- 16:06Speaker 6: the emotion that you had on Friday night?
- 16:09Speaker 3: In front of who knows how.
- 16:11Speaker 6: Many people and how many people were watching on TV,
- 16:13Speaker 6: how many people were listening to you, how many total
- 16:16Speaker 6: people were interested in that game Friday Saturday, and then
- 16:20Speaker 6: to end it with what happened on Sunday, the crescendo
- 16:24Speaker 6: of it.
- 16:25Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great way to put it. I don't.
- 16:27Speaker 6: That's the part about coaching that starts to separate other
- 16:31Speaker 6: coaches in my opinion, and that says after again, this
- 16:34Speaker 6: is a reflection time for me over the last couple
- 16:37Speaker 6: of years on my career other coaches, and then watching
- 16:40Speaker 6: successes of current coaches and how they do things.
- 16:43Speaker 3: And I think the ones that are most successful are.
- 16:46Speaker 6: The ones that really push even as hard when moments
- 16:51Speaker 6: like this after you've had success, to keep for lack
- 16:54Speaker 6: of a better word for, to keep the fire burning right,
- 16:57Speaker 6: to keep you How do you do that right? That's
- 17:00Speaker 6: the motivation of you know, it used to be some guys,
- 17:03Speaker 6: would you know, some coaches would create some kind of
- 17:06Speaker 6: drama that didn't even exist. Like I said, once in
- 17:09Speaker 6: a while, when we were doing really good, I would
- 17:10Speaker 6: create some kind of drama that didn't even exist, say
- 17:13Speaker 6: something like, well, the other team, I know the coaches
- 17:17Speaker 6: from the other team, and he said that some of
- 17:19Speaker 6: else and guys that y'all knew, and even the coach
- 17:21Speaker 6: told me some stuff about, oh, you guys think y'all
- 17:23Speaker 6: are better than everybody else. Y'all walk around, so you
- 17:26Speaker 6: just make up stuff flat out. Well, I would call it,
- 17:30Speaker 6: we call it a lie. We'd call it a fabrication,
- 17:34Speaker 6: a fabrication of a motion.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Yeah, and so.
- 17:37Speaker 6: But but the other piece of it is and that
- 17:39Speaker 6: that starts, you know, plays this point. But I think
- 17:42Speaker 6: the way, you know, Jim is our coach. Last thing,
- 17:45Speaker 6: I'm sorry, has been successful. And I think part of
- 17:51Speaker 6: it is he understands how to keep the fire burning.
- 17:55Speaker 6: I think the part about this season that makes it
- 17:57Speaker 6: a little bit different. They're new, the teams, because the
- 18:00Speaker 6: coaches are new, so everything's new. So that kind of
- 18:03Speaker 6: keeps it going, you know, on down the road. You
- 18:06Speaker 6: know that then it maybe even you know, challenges yourself
- 18:08Speaker 6: even more, you know, after you've had more success and
- 18:12Speaker 6: it becomes a little more common.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Well, and there's another element too, And I brought this
- 18:16Speaker 1: up and he said, I couldn't agree with you more
- 18:18Speaker 1: that a lot, not not at all, maybe not even
- 18:21Speaker 1: the majority, but there are there is there is a
- 18:23Speaker 1: number of Texas fans out there going, man, this is great.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Man.
- 18:27Speaker 1: We got the two out of three from LSU and
- 18:29Speaker 1: the road sweeps at at Mississippi State in Missouri and
- 18:32Speaker 1: then beat number three Georgia.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Swept up here.
- 18:36Speaker 1: If we could just only get Tuesday nights cleaned up
- 18:39Speaker 1: and he said, I totally get it with losses to
- 18:42Speaker 1: UTSA and Texas State, and yeah, it's not what your
- 18:45Speaker 1: weekend guys, although your run although in both of those
- 18:48Speaker 1: cases they ran into weekend guys for both.
- 18:50Speaker 3: And would do it again tonight. Yeah, if it presented.
- 18:53Speaker 1: It so right, So he said, yeah, there's the you
- 18:56Speaker 1: want to make sure you're winning those games too. So
- 18:59Speaker 1: that adds another, I guess another edge. As a coach,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you could say, hey, look, we've done a great job
- 19:05Speaker 1: in conference series and we're gonna have to do it
- 19:07Speaker 1: again when we go to Lexington this weekend. But let's
- 19:10Speaker 1: hay into our business first here on a Tuesday, which
- 19:12Speaker 1: we hadn't done a couple of times lately.
- 19:13Speaker 6: You know you've heard you've heard the players say this, right,
- 19:15Speaker 6: they don't play to the scoreboard or I play to
- 19:17Speaker 6: the standar they play to the standard. That's right, and
- 19:19Speaker 6: that's something they're they're earning, and that's something that they're learning.
- 19:23Speaker 6: And when you start looking at that, what the standard
- 19:26Speaker 6: is and that is to Windows games and the Tuesday
- 19:30Speaker 6: games the same.
- 19:30Speaker 3: But all but remember this.
- 19:31Speaker 6: To're not going undefeated. You're not doing it, and it's
- 19:36Speaker 6: not happening, and you're more than likely gonna lose a
- 19:40Speaker 6: Tuesday game if your competition is good on Tuesdays. Some
- 19:44Speaker 6: people choose not to play very good programs on Tuesday. Fortunately,
- 19:50Speaker 6: in the Great State of Texas, thirty miles down the road,
- 19:53Speaker 6: sixty miles either way, one hundred and fifty miles either way,
- 19:57Speaker 6: and you're gonna bump into possibly top twenty team.
- 20:00Speaker 1: Right, so you can do all you can do all
- 20:02Speaker 1: that on the bus ride.
- 20:03Speaker 6: You have a transit schedule where they can get to
- 20:08Speaker 6: you and you can get to them. And that's just
- 20:11Speaker 6: the way this is. But and look in the in
- 20:13Speaker 6: the grand scheme of it. Yes you want to win
- 20:16Speaker 6: all of them. Yes they want to win tonight. Yeah
- 20:19Speaker 6: they want to you know, I think if you go
- 20:20Speaker 6: back to last Tuesday against Texas State or the value
- 20:23Speaker 6: of defense created some opportunities for their opponent Texas State. Right,
- 20:27Speaker 6: it was a strange game even for you know Texas
- 20:30Speaker 6: State that early in the games and things. It was
- 20:32Speaker 6: just a strange offensive game for both teams. But the
- 20:36Speaker 6: Tuesday games are something everybody puts a lot of value
- 20:40Speaker 6: in and creating your depth. What you hope for in
- 20:43Speaker 6: the end is an explosion and a meaning. Your staff
- 20:48Speaker 6: is ready, your depth is ready, your you know, into
- 20:53Speaker 6: the you are prepared in every way, You're ready, and
- 20:57Speaker 6: you've done well enough to host.
- 20:59Speaker 3: You've done well enough to be you know, we'd like
- 21:01Speaker 3: to hope your hope a national seat.
- 21:03Speaker 6: There's a lot of things that start to go in
- 21:05Speaker 6: in the month of May that you know that you
- 21:07Speaker 6: watch this glos Yeah, yeah, and it is true. But
- 21:10Speaker 6: the reality is is that these Tuesday games are are
- 21:13Speaker 6: to win. If you're you're going out there and you're
- 21:16Speaker 6: playing to win every game, playing to the standard, right,
- 21:18Speaker 6: playing what the excellence or what this this program deserves
- 21:21Speaker 6: and what it wants and what it excels at. But
- 21:24Speaker 6: in the reality is, there's gonna be some hiccups along
- 21:26Speaker 6: the way. You're not gonna put you know me teams.
- 21:28Speaker 6: And by the way, I think I looked it up
- 21:30Speaker 6: last week, and I can't remember the exact number. There
- 21:32Speaker 6: were five to twenty five teams that got beat last Tuesday. Yeah,
- 21:35Speaker 6: So I mean it's not like it's not gonna happen.
- 21:37Speaker 3: It is.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Yeah, explain the fans and and and Schloss will have
- 21:43Speaker 1: his own thoughts on it as well, come out of
- 21:44Speaker 1: the pregame. But explain the fans what a coach is
- 21:47Speaker 1: looking for out of a midweek Tuesday starter, and and
- 21:52Speaker 1: the the vibe I get is it extrapolates, because what
- 21:55Speaker 1: you're looking for is a guy who can give you
- 21:58Speaker 1: some innings, give you some innings, give you some consistency,
- 22:00Speaker 1: but ultimately you're going to need that force starter. And
- 22:03Speaker 1: down the road you're kind of projecting when you're looking
- 22:06Speaker 1: at him, aren't you.
- 22:07Speaker 6: If your fourth starter comes into play in conference tournament play,
- 22:11Speaker 6: he comes into play and regional play, if you get
- 22:15Speaker 6: into the losers bracket, he comes into play and super
- 22:18Speaker 6: regional play occasionally as the back end guy, and definitely.
- 22:24Speaker 3: A hundred in Omaha.
- 22:26Speaker 6: So that all these twelve weeks, thirteen weeks of trying
- 22:30Speaker 6: you want to develop that fourth starter. Here's the second
- 22:33Speaker 6: piece of that God forbid this happens, right, you know
- 22:37Speaker 6: what I'm about to say.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Somebody goes down, Sure, and.
- 22:40Speaker 6: How many years do you get through a season without
- 22:41Speaker 6: a picture going down. It's rare, it really is. I mean,
- 22:45Speaker 6: in all honesty, you hate to say that, but it's true.
- 22:48Speaker 6: So you're developing that person along the way for the
- 22:51Speaker 6: immediate success, the future success of the season at the
- 22:54Speaker 6: end or postseason, and then you're you're developing it for
- 22:57Speaker 6: what is going to be his success over the next
- 22:59Speaker 6: If it's a young possibly FORGECT you want to have
- 23:01Speaker 6: that fourth starter for so many reasons. And the other
- 23:04Speaker 6: piece of this is weather comes into play. You start
- 23:07Speaker 6: crunching games together. There's just a lot that goes into
- 23:10Speaker 6: that one hundred percent, and then all of a sudden
- 23:13Speaker 6: you're you're looking for arms and fresh arms. And what
- 23:16Speaker 6: you would love, what every coach would really love to
- 23:18Speaker 6: do is have a Tuesday start. They go out there
- 23:21Speaker 6: and you ate up six innings, eight up, six innings,
- 23:24Speaker 6: and then you use.
- 23:25Speaker 3: Three guys are one guy, two guys.
- 23:27Speaker 6: Rested their way out and they get their development, they
- 23:29Speaker 6: get their their their moment and there because really you're
- 23:32Speaker 6: you don't know what you don't you don't know something
- 23:34Speaker 6: until you know it. That means you got to get
- 23:36Speaker 6: out there and let them see it, experience it, and
- 23:38Speaker 6: do it on consecutive based meaning pictures different arms and
- 23:41Speaker 6: so I think for them to develop, whether it's Floors
- 23:43Speaker 6: and some other guys along the way, would be huge
- 23:45Speaker 6: for their overall success. Remember this, You don't just snap
- 23:50Speaker 6: your fingers and say we're going to Omaha and we're
- 23:53Speaker 6: winning the national championship. It's a developed process that takes
- 23:56Speaker 6: time and a lot of work.
- 23:58Speaker 1: One more thing, uh that you all also still working
- 24:01Speaker 1: on the telecast at Texas State. They look like they
- 24:03Speaker 1: flipped things a little bit, had a big win here,
- 24:05Speaker 1: but took two out of three in a series that
- 24:07Speaker 1: they had to have against Louisiana. There are two games
- 24:10Speaker 1: back in the conference standings, but they've looked like they've
- 24:12Speaker 1: got new.
- 24:12Speaker 3: Life, got some guys back healthy. They got two or
- 24:15Speaker 3: three guys back. They'll get another one.
- 24:16Speaker 6: Back this week. I think Eaton will come back this week.
- 24:20Speaker 6: If he didn't, I don't think he threw it. At the
- 24:22Speaker 6: end of the weekend, he'll come.
- 24:23Speaker 3: Back on the mount. He's back hitting for.
- 24:24Speaker 6: Him, and then they've got two other hitters Galloway or
- 24:28Speaker 6: hopefully come back. So they're starting to get they they
- 24:31Speaker 6: had three starters out before they do a pitch in
- 24:33Speaker 6: the season, so they're trying to get some of those guys.
- 24:35Speaker 6: People don't understand the next guy up. There's the reason
- 24:37Speaker 6: why he was the next guy up and not the
- 24:39Speaker 6: guy right, And so they had to go and they
- 24:42Speaker 6: kind of started the season limping injury wise, and so
- 24:45Speaker 6: hopefully they're replacing some of those guys and even getting
- 24:47Speaker 6: healthier on the mountain.
- 24:47Speaker 1: Are you enjoying this TV thing? You're good at it?
- 24:50Speaker 1: I mean, are you enjoying it? Yes?
- 24:51Speaker 6: I do, because its you know me. I like to
- 24:54Speaker 6: talk so and I like to talk about something. I
- 24:56Speaker 6: feel like I know something about, not everything, but something
- 24:59Speaker 6: about and this past weekend was a blast, and I
- 25:03Speaker 6: would tell you this, Yes, I enjoy it. I enjoy
- 25:05Speaker 6: the conversating about it. I enjoy truthfully, as you know
- 25:09Speaker 6: this about me. I enjoyed the stimulation about it. And
- 25:12Speaker 6: I see the game differently today than I saw the
- 25:15Speaker 6: game even my last ten years as a coach, and
- 25:18Speaker 6: maybe even closely in my last five years as a coach.
- 25:20Speaker 3: I see the game better.
- 25:22Speaker 6: And I see it with a different lens and ever,
- 25:23Speaker 6: so I don't have people hanging over me telling me
- 25:25Speaker 6: why did you win and lose?
- 25:26Speaker 3: I don't have people.
- 25:27Speaker 6: I mean I have a different view of it than
- 25:30Speaker 6: I did, a clearer picture now than what I did.
- 25:33Speaker 3: And then I watch other coaches. I mean I look
- 25:35Speaker 3: at it once in a while and go, Godly, yeah,
- 25:37Speaker 3: look at that. Yes, that's yeah, that's that's you know,
- 25:40Speaker 3: that's that's how you do it. And then you know.
- 25:43Speaker 3: And I want to say one thing about this past weekend.
- 25:45Speaker 4: I learned.
- 25:47Speaker 3: I didn't learn.
- 25:48Speaker 6: I mean I knew it, but it really came fruition
- 25:51Speaker 6: this past weekend. Texas is a really opportunistic team. They
- 25:55Speaker 6: create opportunities and when they get opportunities, they take advantage
- 26:01Speaker 6: of it. It's something different and somebody creates it, gives
- 26:03Speaker 6: you an opportunity, but you do nothing but sit on it.
- 26:06Speaker 3: They do nothing but act on it.
- 26:09Speaker 6: In this past weekend, I mean, you think about the error,
- 26:12Speaker 6: You think about the walks, you think about all those
- 26:15Speaker 6: things that you as a coach, you preached that you
- 26:18Speaker 6: you don't want to do it, you don't want to
- 26:20Speaker 6: have happened. Right happened, and but you got to take
- 26:22Speaker 6: advantage of it. Jylen Forest still has to come up
- 26:24Speaker 6: with a hit, you know, Gasprino Still's got to come
- 26:27Speaker 6: up with a double. All those things and in the end,
- 26:30Speaker 6: and the reality was, hey, man, Valantis had to come
- 26:33Speaker 6: in and shut him down. Hold them right, everybody takes
- 26:36Speaker 6: it for granted. My god, that's one of the best
- 26:38Speaker 6: offensive teams in the country that he was facing. He
- 26:41Speaker 6: had to shut him down to take him at roling
- 26:43Speaker 6: the Galvan a chance.
- 26:44Speaker 1: And then the word was when Galvan was at the play,
- 26:46Speaker 1: Valandis was in the bathroom and he was gonna come
- 26:49Speaker 1: out and pitch to the left handed in and that.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Was gonna be it. But he was in the bathroom.
- 26:52Speaker 2: He's on the toys.
- 26:53Speaker 6: Yeah, And I'm gonna tell I'll tell you this all
- 26:55Speaker 6: the way down to the last pitch got rolling. Galvan
- 26:59Speaker 6: created the opportunity for him because he didn't swing at
- 27:01Speaker 6: the edge pitch and the pitch that was elevated to
- 27:04Speaker 6: create that hitting count, which he has done so good
- 27:06Speaker 6: over the last two weeks.
- 27:08Speaker 3: And man, did he land on that ball.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Thanks for stopping by and enjoying the telecast today.
- 27:12Speaker 3: Always joy Thank you.
- 27:14Speaker 1: Ty Harrington with us we'll be back to wrap up
- 27:15Speaker 1: today's program.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I'm thirteen under the zon
