- 0:18Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to Gatesleepers, the pop culture game show
- 0:21Speaker 1: that shines a spotlight onto everyone's favorite fandoms. I'm your
- 0:26Speaker 1: games master and English actor with a German accent, Matt Watson.
- 0:31Speaker 1: But a games master needs games, and games need players,
- 0:34Speaker 1: so please welcome first. He is an author, a podcaster,
- 0:38Speaker 1: and a games master. His debut mystery novel, Thane, is
- 0:41Speaker 1: now available as an audio book. It sounds like a
- 0:44Speaker 1: case that goes all the way to the top of
- 0:47Speaker 1: the Amazon charts. It's Aaron Randolph.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Oh nice breaking out the action movie voice.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Already wait, word voice, this is my natural voice. Oh,
- 1:02Speaker 2: I understand the misconception. Whenever you're hi, I'm Aaron. That's
- 1:07Speaker 2: the affectation. It's the real me.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Oh okay, good, it's good. It's making me sound more graphicy.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Actually it's making me want to join you.
- 1:15Speaker 2: I had to disguise my voice because people look at
- 1:18Speaker 2: me and see a cuddly teddy bear, so it didn't
- 1:21Speaker 2: really fit.
- 1:22Speaker 1: But I like it. It's it's good to see the
- 1:25Speaker 1: real you, Aaron. It's good to finally meet you.
- 1:27Speaker 2: I feel free with that.
- 1:32Speaker 1: She's a podcaster and an improviser. Who works in STEM,
- 1:35Speaker 1: which today stands for situation terminal hebort mission. Yeah good,
- 1:46Speaker 1: she's too young for this shit. It's Oldra Stevenson. Hello,
- 1:50Speaker 1: I am so excited. You're using the same voice as
- 1:54Speaker 1: I'm used to. So that's that's actually good. I can
- 1:56Speaker 1: now get used to Aaron's voice. M hmm. Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 3: So I'll keep but on an even keel, my standard
- 2:02Speaker 3: standard voice.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Good.
- 2:04Speaker 3: Just next week you'll hear my real voice. We have
- 2:07Speaker 3: been married for several years. But next week of the podcast.
- 2:10Speaker 1: You'll hear my real voice.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Okay, I'm excited to finally hear it. Odre and I
- 2:14Speaker 2: compliment each other nicely.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Let's see how long this bit last, surn.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Until my voice gives out.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Okay. Well, this this episode, we are, of course talking
- 2:29Speaker 1: eighties action movies, those classic muscle and guns films of
- 2:34Speaker 1: the eighties. Aaron, I'm gonna ask you right up top,
- 2:37Speaker 1: are you a fan of these kinds of films?
- 2:39Speaker 2: No? Not really, even though I've been told I have
- 2:42Speaker 2: the perfect voice for them. I'm kidding, of course, ah,
- 2:48Speaker 2: competing with the gravelly voice. I got into action movies
- 2:53Speaker 2: pretty heavily in the two thousands, just out of college.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I'd taken stage combat classes and fights, and so I
- 3:02Speaker 2: got into movies that had fights in them.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Oh nice. Yeah, And I watched.
- 3:07Speaker 2: A ton of movies across the spectrum, you name it,
- 3:11Speaker 2: Eighties action movies, nineties action movies, kung Fu flicks, whatever
- 3:15Speaker 2: I could find. Superhero movies weren't a thing yet the time.
- 3:21Speaker 2: There were some magnificent fights on film, and I wanted
- 3:24Speaker 2: to see them.
- 3:24Speaker 1: All at the eighties, with some of your favorites. Yeah,
- 3:28Speaker 1: there's some.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Good fights in eighties films.
- 3:31Speaker 1: I'm just impressed you're keeping up with this voice. I
- 3:33Speaker 1: can't think about anything else. I'm sure you're saying excellent
- 3:36Speaker 1: podcasting words. I'm just so in awe.
- 3:41Speaker 2: It is my real voice.
- 3:42Speaker 1: So this is this is me, this is yes the
- 3:46Speaker 1: next hundred minutes.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Okay, and Audre, you are you a fan of eighties
- 3:53Speaker 2: action movies?
- 3:54Speaker 1: You you were born not then?
- 3:57Speaker 3: No, I was not born yet, But I do. I
- 4:01Speaker 3: do think that there is something about eighties films that,
- 4:04Speaker 3: regardless of what era you were born in, they feel nostalgic. Yes,
- 4:10Speaker 3: there's something about an eighties movie that feels like coming
- 4:14Speaker 3: to like a comfortable place.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I see that.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Yeah, even though I wasn't there when it came out.
- 4:21Speaker 3: It still feels it still feels like, ah, yes, these
- 4:24Speaker 3: are the types of explosions, and this is the color
- 4:26Speaker 3: grading on the screen, and yeah.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Lovely yeah yeah, cozy violence, yeah, yes, incredibly Yeah. They
- 4:34Speaker 1: all look like they should be played on a VHS.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Still mm hmm.
- 4:37Speaker 3: It's kind of before action films started to do just
- 4:40Speaker 3: like a one color filter, like a one or two
- 4:42Speaker 3: color filter, like you think, you think of the matrix,
- 4:45Speaker 3: and you think of green, you think of anything. Uh,
- 4:49Speaker 3: whoever that that one guy did?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Yeah, that guy, that one guy.
- 4:52Speaker 3: The modern action ones that are all like kind of
- 4:54Speaker 3: orange and teel Pacific rim and on. All the transformers
- 4:59Speaker 3: kind of have like the t you'll in the oranges
- 5:01Speaker 3: really pop.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Prior to that, we had some real, real grainy VHS
- 5:07Speaker 3: action and I loved it.
- 5:09Speaker 2: We told yeah, and tons of b roll footage with
- 5:13Speaker 2: like a saxophone playing over it, real model Oh yeah.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Absolute stuff. People in oversized suits walking on a street
- 5:22Speaker 1: someone's about to go down.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Or outlandish costumes. Yeah, just like Michael Jackson red tuxedo,
- 5:31Speaker 2: sort of put together but shiny, you know. Yeah, Yeah,
- 5:35Speaker 2: I'm gonna pretend. Yes, that's the stuff. That is the stuff.
- 5:39Speaker 2: All right, Well, I think.
- 5:41Speaker 1: You're gonna make a great team. Auldre Aaron.
- 5:43Speaker 2: Absolutely the Buddy Cop movie everybody wanted this summer.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Audre and Aaron.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Okay, well your Buddy Cup team. You're gonna need to
- 5:54Speaker 1: track down some pups unless they end up being the
- 5:57Speaker 1: cops and you end up being the pups. We'll find
- 5:58Speaker 1: out as the episode goes along. So let's meet your opponents.
- 6:02Speaker 1: He is a comic book writer, podcaster, and geek explorer.
- 6:05Speaker 1: And after you bust this drugs compound, you should really
- 6:08Speaker 1: check out issues one through three of Space Oddities. It's
- 6:11Speaker 1: Ben Robinson.
- 6:13Speaker 4: Hey, there, say I'm getting too old for this shit,
- 6:16Speaker 4: but I realized recently Danny Glover was actually two years
- 6:19Speaker 4: younger than me when he said that.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Ah, that is a realization to come to.
- 6:26Speaker 1: I don't like it. And he is a comic book writer, creator,
- 6:31Speaker 1: and podcaster. And after you bust this eco terrorist dogfighting ring,
- 6:36Speaker 1: you should really check out the fund my comic for
- 6:39Speaker 1: issue two of Polar Destroyer. It's Alex Osborne. Hey, how
- 6:42Speaker 1: are you hello, Alex? Welcome to Gateleapers for the first time.
- 6:47Speaker 1: Thanks thanks for joining us. Thanks for having me, well,
- 6:50Speaker 1: welcome back, Ben, Welcome Alex. I'm going to ask you both.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Let's start with you, Ben. Are you a fan of
- 6:56Speaker 1: eighties action films? Who isn't?
- 6:59Speaker 4: They're great? They were just so unabashedly over the top.
- 7:06Speaker 4: And yeah, everything takes itself too damn seriously. These days,
- 7:10Speaker 4: there's nothing like just you know, a man standing out
- 7:13Speaker 4: in the middle of a field shooting a gun at
- 7:15Speaker 4: five hundred dudes charging him, and he's also shooting guns
- 7:18Speaker 4: at him. No one's getting hit. Well, I mean someone's
- 7:20Speaker 4: getting hit, but not our dude. Yeah, and I'm willing
- 7:24Speaker 4: to suspend that disbelief all day long.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Nice. Yeah, that is such a good point about how
- 7:30Speaker 1: serious a lot of action films take themselves. Now everything
- 7:33Speaker 1: has to be very grounded, gritty, real. Yeah. But yeah,
- 7:38Speaker 1: I've watched so many ridiculous scenes in preparation for writing
- 7:41Speaker 1: these games, and it's it was a crazy time at Alex,
- 7:45Speaker 1: what about yourself? Are you a fan of these kinds
- 7:47Speaker 1: of movies? I would say yes, I am a I
- 7:50Speaker 1: was born in eighty nine, so but I'm a kid
- 7:52Speaker 1: of the nineties but a product of the eighties, so
- 7:55Speaker 1: I get that yeah, I'm very much influenced heavily by
- 7:59Speaker 1: eighties comedies, eighties action movies, nineties all that sort of stuff.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So yes, direct inspiration for my comic book. Specifically, Oh nice,
- 8:09Speaker 1: nice me? Could you shout out a few inspirations for
- 8:12Speaker 1: Polar Destroyer, huh, Commando, Rambo Terminator, a little bit of
- 8:19Speaker 1: Mortal Kombat, and also a little bit of Ninja Turtles
- 8:22Speaker 1: in there as well. So oh, good stuff? Hell yeah,
- 8:26Speaker 1: all the good things. Yeah, the all the best eighties
- 8:29Speaker 1: action stuff. Hey, yeah, sounds fun. Okay, Teams, here you are.
- 8:33Speaker 1: You've been paed together two days from retirement. But your
- 8:37Speaker 1: dynamic duo is going to need a catchy name for
- 8:39Speaker 1: the press before you hit the streets. So I'd like
- 8:42Speaker 1: each pair to come up with an eighties themed action
- 8:45Speaker 1: team name. Please. Eighties action themed team name. Please. Let's
- 8:51Speaker 1: start with Aaron and Audra. What have you got?
- 8:54Speaker 3: Have I forgot about the voice? I have three I
- 9:01Speaker 3: have three options. They're they're pretty basic. They're pretty like
- 9:04Speaker 3: straight shooting. I'm not too I'm not as well versed
- 9:08Speaker 3: in the genre as everyone else is, so I just
- 9:10Speaker 3: went like straight down the line. Here's some action movies.
- 9:15Speaker 3: Try hard, because I'm gonna try my best top fun
- 9:24Speaker 3: and then the third one, the Predators, that one I
- 9:27Speaker 3: am gonna cross off. Yeah, it sounded great at the time.
- 9:33Speaker 2: I was trying to come up with some sort of
- 9:35Speaker 2: play on predator and I thought, hmmm, how about instead
- 9:39Speaker 2: of sexual predator, a sexual predator. Then I realized that
- 9:44Speaker 2: sounds like there's just one sexual presature, so that won't
- 9:49Speaker 2: work at all.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I've said saying the whole predator angle isn't
- 9:54Speaker 1: gonna work. Yeah.
- 9:55Speaker 2: I didn't have much luck coming up with a name.
- 9:58Speaker 2: I like to try and mix all under his name
- 10:00Speaker 2: into it, just because I enjoy that. But the best
- 10:04Speaker 2: I could come up with was a live Grenaudra she married.
- 10:11Speaker 2: If she married a different immigrant, Audrey Schwarzenegger, I would.
- 10:19Speaker 3: Be the first lady of California. No, that's fine, yea.
- 10:26Speaker 2: And I tried like mixing up some names of of
- 10:30Speaker 2: action movies to make them, you know, just mix them
- 10:33Speaker 2: up a little bit, like Top One. I like that,
- 10:36Speaker 2: so I thought below the Law, the walking woman instead
- 10:41Speaker 2: of the running man, Waltz and money instead of tangoing
- 10:47Speaker 2: cash good doesn't quite work, really, So what.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Do you think, Oh, there's one in the middle. There
- 10:56Speaker 3: that I liked, and I can't remember.
- 10:57Speaker 1: What was it. The Walking Woman.
- 10:59Speaker 3: I did like the walking woman, but I think that
- 11:02Speaker 3: was just because I am a walking.
- 11:04Speaker 1: And Witzenegger.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Is good. That's good. The one I like the most
- 11:09Speaker 2: personally was top Fun. But we can go with whatever
- 11:12Speaker 2: you want.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I mean, I am, I do you are?
- 11:16Speaker 2: We are top fun.
- 11:18Speaker 3: We are top fun.
- 11:19Speaker 2: There are no higher fun.
- 11:21Speaker 3: There's no higher level of fun top fun.
- 11:24Speaker 1: An I simple team name, six Lights. That's gonna be
- 11:26Speaker 1: the shortest team name I've ever had. You've given me
- 11:29Speaker 1: in a while. It's so top top fun because you
- 11:32Speaker 1: are top fun. That voice is so top fun, Aaron,
- 11:34Speaker 1: I love it.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Welcome Top Fun starring Thomas Charles Gruse. Sorry that's a
- 11:43Speaker 2: throwback to the Slasher episode.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Oh good stuff. Okay, well we've got top Fun. Let's
- 11:50Speaker 1: find out who they'll be facing, Ben, Alex, any ideas
- 11:53Speaker 1: for team names. I can run down my list, Ben,
- 11:56Speaker 1: if you want me to. Sure, Okay, I have Apocalypse
- 11:59Speaker 1: Meal instead of Apocalypse Now, Nice Mash, Hysteria, Machismo Masters,
- 12:07Speaker 1: nac Maniacs, the Blade Runners or Smarty McFly.
- 12:13Speaker 3: These are so good.
- 12:15Speaker 2: There's a lot of good stuff happening that y solid.
- 12:17Speaker 2: I took it seriously, unlike.
- 12:19Speaker 1: Then I got, I got names. I know the format.
- 12:22Speaker 1: I just don't sorry.
- 12:26Speaker 4: I like showing up dumb helps keep my record clean ish,
- 12:33Speaker 4: clean of winds. I like Machiso Masters a lot. I've
- 12:38Speaker 4: got three that I came with, the Kingship Cops, the
- 12:42Speaker 4: one Liners, or the goddamn sexual Tyrannosauri.
- 12:49Speaker 1: As you like that last one, I do, but I
- 12:52Speaker 1: feel I feel like it's gonna be easier and it's
- 12:54Speaker 1: gonna flow better if you don't have to repeat that
- 12:57Speaker 1: every time. That is such a good I like, thanks
- 13:00Speaker 1: for looking out for my podcast. I'm trying to get points.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Definitely have the exact opposite attitude is me.
- 13:10Speaker 3: The number of episodes where I have picked the worst
- 13:13Speaker 3: one for Matt to have to say over and over again,
- 13:16Speaker 3: like this one's a tongue twister, let's make him do it.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I can't award any bonus points, but just for that,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I think you should have to pick one of Alex's names. There.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Oh, I'm fine with the Machismo Masters.
- 13:28Speaker 1: The Machismo Masters, I love it.
- 13:30Speaker 4: It's very very eighties action movie.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Yes, heck yeah, I love the alliteration. That's always good. Okay,
- 13:36Speaker 1: So we have top Fun versus the Machismo Masters, classic
- 13:40Speaker 1: eight East stuff, all right, And if you're listening to
- 13:42Speaker 1: this and thinking I only know these old fucks from
- 13:45Speaker 1: the Expendables, don't worry his order With a little segment
- 13:49Speaker 1: we like to call passing knowledge.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Action movies of the nineteen eighties. It seems like a
- 14:00Speaker 3: fairly nebulous topic until you realize the same four dudes
- 14:04Speaker 3: are in ninety percent of these films. Names like Arnold Schwarzenegger,
- 14:09Speaker 3: Sylvester Stallone, Bruce Willis, and Kurt Russell are synonymous with
- 14:13Speaker 3: eighties action and also body dysmorphia. Stylistically, most eighties action
- 14:20Speaker 3: films feature a sweaty beefcake with a huge gun who,
- 14:24Speaker 3: as a veteran rogue agent on his day off before retirement,
- 14:28Speaker 3: must stop the terrorists or cops or government or whatever. Thematically,
- 14:33Speaker 3: most eighties action movies focus on either hypermasculinity or the
- 14:37Speaker 3: satire of hypermasculinity, war or the satire of war, and
- 14:43Speaker 3: how when you're really close to death you're allowed to
- 14:46Speaker 3: consider telling your best friend that you love him, but
- 14:49Speaker 3: you better not say it out loud. And fortunately Most
- 14:54Speaker 3: eighties action movies feature a shitload of explosions, awesome fight choreography,
- 15:00Speaker 3: and a slick little guitar riff when something cool happens,
- 15:03Speaker 3: Bow Bow baboo. These films are often silly, fun romps
- 15:09Speaker 3: on the surface, but feature commentaries on the Vietnam War,
- 15:13Speaker 3: Cold War era politics, and gender theory, the perfect blend
- 15:17Speaker 3: of low brow and high brow to create.
- 15:20Speaker 1: I don't know, medium brow.
- 15:23Speaker 3: Sylvester Stallone had a medium brow, right, that works. Oh
- 15:28Speaker 3: and if you're wondering why we're not chatting about the
- 15:31Speaker 3: Terminator Jackie Chan and the Rocky films very much, Well,
- 15:35Speaker 3: they'll get their own episodes down the line in like.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Twenty twenty eight.
- 15:41Speaker 3: But for now, everybody on the ground, let's play gate Leapers.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Thank you, Audra. Just before we get to today's games,
- 15:55Speaker 1: I've asked each player to bring in amuse something that
- 15:59Speaker 1: inspires them, something they love from this particular fandom. Eighties
- 16:03Speaker 1: action movies are inspiring to me because no matter what happens,
- 16:07Speaker 1: America always wins in the end, USA, USA, USA, Please
- 16:13Speaker 1: don't depult me, Okay, Aaron, We'll start with you. What's
- 16:17Speaker 1: inspiring you from the world of guns and muscles.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Well, for me, it has to be as I said,
- 16:25Speaker 2: the fights. The fights are the best. Honestly, Arnie wasn't
- 16:30Speaker 2: necessarily great at one on one fights. Bruce could hold
- 16:34Speaker 2: his own sly was pretty solid. But for me, and
- 16:38Speaker 2: I know he's not particularly tied to the eighties, but
- 16:41Speaker 2: nobody fights like Jackie Chan. He did some amazing eighties movies.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Sadly none of them are my favorites. All of my
- 16:49Speaker 2: favorites fall into the seventies or the nineties, such as
- 16:54Speaker 2: My Luck. But the man is still a legend, and
- 16:58Speaker 2: he put together the greatest and even some of his
- 17:01Speaker 2: movies through the eighties had incredible fights in them, and
- 17:05Speaker 2: I just got so hooked on them. You never knew
- 17:09Speaker 2: which way a fight was gonna turn, except at the
- 17:12Speaker 2: very end where the hero would obviously win.
- 17:15Speaker 3: Yeah, but the peril throughout was always so well yeah
- 17:22Speaker 3: and well communicated. Yeah, narrative through fight is so cool.
- 17:27Speaker 2: A good fight choreographer tells a story, not necessarily puts
- 17:33Speaker 2: together the most amazing, flashiest fight. The best fights are
- 17:37Speaker 2: the ones that tell stories, and there were some phenomenal
- 17:41Speaker 2: fights in eighties action movies and I enjoy exploring them
- 17:45Speaker 2: every time I watch a great movie.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Yeah, the voice is really working for the analysis. Actually,
- 17:51Speaker 1: you actually sounded like already prestigious critic, like this is
- 17:56Speaker 1: the axis round table of something. It's good, Stuffy. The fight,
- 18:01Speaker 1: fight choreography is it's gonna be the best part of
- 18:04Speaker 1: at least for me. I agree with you completely. I
- 18:06Speaker 1: love the fight choreography in these films. And Jackie Chan.
- 18:10Speaker 1: I mean, we realized during planning this that we needed
- 18:12Speaker 1: to spin off Jackie Chan into his own episodes, so
- 18:15Speaker 1: that will happen at some point next year, I'm sure well.
- 18:18Speaker 4: And one of the best parts about the fight choreography
- 18:20Speaker 4: is the writer had to figure out a way by
- 18:22Speaker 4: the end of the movie to get the antagonist and
- 18:24Speaker 4: the protagonist to put their guns down and have a
- 18:26Speaker 4: fist fight, because you could you just shoot the bad guy.
- 18:30Speaker 4: That's not acceptable. You have to get rid of the
- 18:31Speaker 4: guns and have a fucking brawl like them.
- 18:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, Five times out of ten they both run
- 18:38Speaker 2: out of bullets at the same time.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Yeah, they had a lot of the same ideas, didn't they.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Oh it's the very inspiring Aaron. We'll move on over
- 18:48Speaker 1: to your top fun teammate, Ordra. Your top fun. But
- 18:51Speaker 1: what's inspiring you from eighties action movies.
- 18:54Speaker 3: I am inspired by the concept of compensatory masculinity. So
- 19:02Speaker 3: if you're unfamiliar with this term, it is not all
- 19:06Speaker 3: men do this, but it is seen in the male population.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Whenever they do something seen as feminine, you gotta compensate
- 19:14Speaker 3: with something hyper masculine so that you feel like a big,
- 19:17Speaker 3: strong boy. Again, again, not everyone does this, but it
- 19:21Speaker 3: is a phenomenon that we see, and boy, eighties action
- 19:26Speaker 3: films a great place to find this. Every one of
- 19:31Speaker 3: these will have a unique moment where two men are
- 19:34Speaker 3: genuinely so close because of their trauma that they're like,
- 19:38Speaker 3: this is they're going through massive trauma. Oh my friend
- 19:42Speaker 3: died and now I need to go and do this
- 19:44Speaker 3: wild shooting of all these five hundred men running at me,
- 19:48Speaker 3: or I'm like next to someone's bedside and now I
- 19:50Speaker 3: have to go and seek revenge, et cetera. Every single
- 19:54Speaker 3: one of these movies, well most of them have like
- 19:56Speaker 3: a really touching moment between two men.
- 20:00Speaker 1: All of the.
- 20:01Speaker 3: Action is always very similar, but those unique moments between
- 20:05Speaker 3: the men where they show their hearts to each other. Yeah,
- 20:09Speaker 3: that's the real point of these films. To me, that's
- 20:14Speaker 3: why they need all those explosions.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Why do I feel like not using my real voice anymore?
- 20:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a that's a good thing to be inspired by.
- 20:27Speaker 1: And something I really noticed when revisiting a lot of
- 20:30Speaker 1: these films is there were quite often very touching moments
- 20:34Speaker 1: between the two male protagonists.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Yeah. Or like in Top Gun, that scene where everyone
- 20:37Speaker 3: plays volleyball together, she just has a fun time with
- 20:40Speaker 3: their shirts off.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Yeah, gotta get your tops off and play football with
- 20:42Speaker 1: the boys, and then you got to do a lot
- 20:44Speaker 1: of cool, plain shit exactly to compensate.
- 20:47Speaker 3: Mm hmm.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Very good goods, very inspiring, thank you. Yeah, very inspirational
- 20:53Speaker 1: stuff from Top Fun. But let's move over to the
- 20:55Speaker 1: Mckismo masters. The Machismo Masters. Maquismo Machismo are both acceptable.
- 21:01Speaker 1: I think it's my cheese mo. You're British.
- 21:03Speaker 4: I don't know what you guys have over there.
- 21:05Speaker 1: You invented the language, so you tell me that's a
- 21:10Speaker 1: good point, But you guys have professed it. Matt.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Matt invented the English language himself.
- 21:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna go with because that sounds for
- 21:21Speaker 1: moult Britsh to go with machismo, So macheese mo mastas.
- 21:26Speaker 1: We'll start with you, Ben, what's inspiring you from the
- 21:28Speaker 1: world of eighties action?
- 21:30Speaker 4: So I recently, it was shortly before we landed on this,
- 21:35Speaker 4: uh this episode, I was in a game shop and
- 21:39Speaker 4: found a new h like tabletop RPG source book for
- 21:43Speaker 4: a game called out Gunned that's essentially a tabletop version
- 21:48Speaker 4: of an eighties action movie.
- 21:50Speaker 1: Oh man, And I've read through it.
- 21:51Speaker 4: I have not had a chance to play it yet,
- 21:53Speaker 4: but I'm super stoked about it. It looks really fun
- 21:55Speaker 4: instead of like it wants to be paced more like
- 21:58Speaker 4: an action movie where you're going around kicking ass, killing
- 22:00Speaker 4: people and doing getting into crazy situations. So it's fairly
- 22:04Speaker 4: rules light. And instead of like rolling dice and doing
- 22:07Speaker 4: math like a nerd, I would not be as good
- 22:13Speaker 4: at that. You have a you have a dice pool still,
- 22:17Speaker 4: but you roll it and you're looking for like pairs
- 22:19Speaker 4: and three of a kind and four of a kind,
- 22:21Speaker 4: so you don't actually have to do any math. It's
- 22:22Speaker 4: all about you know, just how many maths numbers make
- 22:26Speaker 4: what explosion?
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah? I like that. Yeah, And that sounds fun as hell.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Hell yeah, yeah, that's that sounds really cool, Ben, especially
- 22:35Speaker 1: like the idea of them, like making it more fast
- 22:37Speaker 1: paced to reflect an eighty's action movie so they can
- 22:40Speaker 1: just be move through it.
- 22:43Speaker 4: And instead of classes, it's got like the archetypes, you know,
- 22:46Speaker 4: like the you know, the macho jerk and the hacker
- 22:49Speaker 4: and the you know, all the different lady, yeah, the
- 22:54Speaker 4: renegade cop like that. But yeah, if any if anyone
- 22:59Speaker 4: wants to play, let me know, because I'm looking to
- 23:01Speaker 4: run a game at some point.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Hell yeah, it sounds like a lot of fun, great
- 23:05Speaker 1: thing to be inspired by, great thing that someone was
- 23:07Speaker 1: clearly inspired by eighties action movies and made this wonderful
- 23:10Speaker 1: thing happen. And last, but not least, your teammate over
- 23:14Speaker 1: on the Maquismo maniacs masters not maniacs. I couldn't read
- 23:17Speaker 1: my old rite.
- 23:19Speaker 2: And Machismo not mckismo. It was your decision, of course
- 23:25Speaker 2: it was.
- 23:26Speaker 1: I think it's because I have said mckismo my entire life.
- 23:30Speaker 1: I probably just read it once in like a film
- 23:32Speaker 1: studies buck. And then that's just how it sounds like
- 23:34Speaker 1: a whiskey. It does sound like a whiskey, A fresh
- 23:38Speaker 1: glass of mckismo on the rocks. There you go, Alex,
- 23:44Speaker 1: what's inspiring you from the world of eighties action. I'm
- 23:47Speaker 1: gonna go sappy and say innocent youth. Nice as was
- 23:51Speaker 1: it was noted earlier that everything is so insanely serious
- 23:54Speaker 1: and grounded, and everything has to be like driven by
- 23:58Speaker 1: like some ulterior motive over whatever it is, or ulterior
- 24:01Speaker 1: motive everyon want to say it, And just like the
- 24:04Speaker 1: innocence of just setting down and watching a movie with
- 24:07Speaker 1: your dad, with your grandpa, with your siblings or whatever,
- 24:09Speaker 1: your friends, and just like turning your brain off for
- 24:12Speaker 1: ninety minutes and enjoying just like the ridiculousness of what
- 24:15Speaker 1: cinema and movies were originally supposed to be. And so
- 24:19Speaker 1: I have taken that and sort of made a comic
- 24:20Speaker 1: book in that same vein, or tried to anyways. So
- 24:23Speaker 1: nice my inspiration, h yeah? That I mean always good
- 24:27Speaker 1: to be inspired and then channel that into creativity. That's
- 24:30Speaker 1: the best thing to do with inspiration, for sure.
- 24:33Speaker 3: The actual point of a muse, Yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Yeah, the actual point in this segment, Oh, an actual
- 24:39Speaker 1: muse in the mews.
- 24:40Speaker 3: My god, wow, inspiration to make art?
- 24:44Speaker 2: What?
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yeah, we do we do need to return to us. Look,
- 24:49Speaker 1: we can still have some clever stuff, but I'd love
- 24:51Speaker 1: a return to a lot more switch your brain off movies. Yeah,
- 24:54Speaker 1: because a lot of the films that people say, oh,
- 24:57Speaker 1: watch this sense to switch your brain off movie, I'm like,
- 25:00Speaker 1: I don't know. It kind of made me mad, so
- 25:01Speaker 1: my brain was on the whole time. There's that, and
- 25:04Speaker 1: social media has sort of poisoned everyone's opinion and everyone's
- 25:07Speaker 1: a critic and everyone's an expert, and it's just like
- 25:09Speaker 1: a true man, like, can we just like like watch
- 25:12Speaker 1: something and be like it was good and then just
- 25:14Speaker 1: like move on.
- 25:15Speaker 3: Like I had a fun time and I'm not gonna
- 25:17Speaker 3: make it a whole thing exactly.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Have you guys seen ce Sue?
- 25:21Speaker 4: It's great, but it made me feel like an eighties
- 25:26Speaker 4: action movie again, except so good.
- 25:27Speaker 1: He doesn't talk, so.
- 25:28Speaker 4: There's no one liners, but everything else in the movie
- 25:32Speaker 4: at the very end, and I guess he does have
- 25:34Speaker 4: a one line, like a single line at the end.
- 25:36Speaker 4: But best eighties style action movie I've seen in recent times.
- 25:41Speaker 1: It was amazing. I'll check it out. It's a World
- 25:43Speaker 1: War two movie but.
- 25:46Speaker 4: Not Yeah, it's like like basically it's a guy, a
- 25:51Speaker 4: lone man killing Nazis.
- 25:52Speaker 1: So oh, we love, we love perfects. Yeah, okay, look,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I'm very inspired by everyone's music, especially Alex's actual muse.
- 26:03Speaker 1: So shall we get should we get tous?
- 26:04Speaker 2: Some games?
- 26:04Speaker 1: Should play some games games?
- 26:07Speaker 2: Let's do it games.
- 26:10Speaker 1: And we'll see if Aaron continues this voice that he
- 26:13Speaker 1: is doing as we or whether we'll use this music
- 26:16Speaker 1: transition is the perfect time to return to his actual voice.
- 26:19Speaker 2: This is my real voice.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Well, either way, let's leap away from that massive explosion
- 26:25Speaker 1: and into round one. Round one is our quote based
- 26:33Speaker 1: game called Good Readents. In turn, I will give our
- 26:36Speaker 1: players a quote from an eighties action star. For a point,
- 26:40Speaker 1: they must decide if that quote was spoken by a
- 26:42Speaker 1: character played by Arnie Willis or Sly, who are also
- 26:47Speaker 1: my attorneys. Then for a bonus point named the film
- 26:52Speaker 1: you think it's from, So a point for saying whether
- 26:55Speaker 1: it's Arnie Willis or Sly, and then a point for
- 26:57Speaker 1: the film the quote is from. So we are going
- 26:59Speaker 1: to be in with top fun And here is your
- 27:02Speaker 1: first quote. Now I know what a TV dinner feels like.
- 27:06Speaker 2: Okay, I'm gonna go out and say that I think
- 27:10Speaker 2: this is Bruce Willis, and I believe he said it.
- 27:13Speaker 2: While he was inside the air ducts at Naktomi Plaza
- 27:17Speaker 2: in the original Diehard.
- 27:19Speaker 3: I that would make sense because I think I remember
- 27:23Speaker 3: this line, and that is a movie I have seen.
- 27:26Speaker 1: Well, it is correct for two points. It is Bruce
- 27:30Speaker 1: Willis and it is indeed die Hard. Do you think
- 27:33Speaker 1: that's what a TV dinner feels like? Depends on your age.
- 27:36Speaker 2: He didn't get put into a microwave for two minutes,
- 27:40Speaker 2: and he didn't get eaten. He didn't get eaten.
- 27:44Speaker 4: On one side of him was not considerably more hot
- 27:47Speaker 4: than the other.
- 27:48Speaker 1: There's that. That's fair. Yeah, that one I will concede.
- 27:52Speaker 1: Good stuff. Yeah, sorry, I didn't have any rent on
- 27:56Speaker 1: the Okay, on to another question, this time for the
- 28:03Speaker 1: Cheesemo masters. Here is your first quote. You're a funny guy, Sully.
- 28:08Speaker 1: I like you. That's why I'm going to kill you.
- 28:10Speaker 1: Last that is Arnold in Commando. Yep, and he lied,
- 28:15Speaker 1: he lie? Yes, that is indeed correct two points straight
- 28:20Speaker 1: out of the gate as well.
- 28:21Speaker 3: Incredible.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Yeah. Did you both say you watched Commando recently or
- 28:24Speaker 1: was it? Was it just Ben? I watched it last night,
- 28:26Speaker 1: so good. That's fresh and fresh.
- 28:30Speaker 4: I think I would have known that one anyway.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I've not seen Commando in like ten years, but that
- 28:37Speaker 1: one's stuck in my brain. Yeah, yeah, iconic. Okay, back
- 28:41Speaker 1: on over to top fun. Here is your next quote.
- 28:43Speaker 1: To survive a war, you've got to become a war.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Well, I haven't seen the movie personally, but if I
- 28:51Speaker 2: had to guess, I would say that's sly either First
- 28:57Speaker 2: Blood or Rambo First Blood Part two. I'm not sure
- 29:00Speaker 2: which one.
- 29:02Speaker 1: Well, you've got Sly correct, so I'm gonna give you
- 29:04Speaker 1: a point for that for sure.
- 29:07Speaker 2: Now, the first one, he's not actually in war. He's
- 29:12Speaker 2: at home, but he's being harassed and assaulted by an
- 29:15Speaker 2: entire police.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Company by a king.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I don't know if he'd described that as a war
- 29:23Speaker 2: he might.
- 29:24Speaker 1: He might.
- 29:26Speaker 2: But Rambo First Blood Part two does take place in
- 29:30Speaker 2: a war zone, so maybe that's the wiser. Yeah. I'm
- 29:34Speaker 2: gonna believe we're not.
- 29:35Speaker 3: Bound strictly to logic in this, but I think would
- 29:37Speaker 3: probably be the best course of action.
- 29:39Speaker 2: I agree, let's go on Rambo First Blood Part.
- 29:44Speaker 1: Two, And that is indeed correct. It is Rambo First
- 29:48Speaker 1: Blood Part two. Okay.
- 29:49Speaker 3: I have a question to someone who doesn't know many
- 29:51Speaker 3: of these movies sure, was there a Rambo First Blood
- 29:55Speaker 3: Part one?
- 29:56Speaker 1: It was just first No, it was just first Blood.
- 29:59Speaker 2: It wasn't called.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Oh, your real voice almost came out there, Aaron, And and
- 30:03Speaker 1: I'm actually.
- 30:04Speaker 2: This is my real I don't know how many times.
- 30:09Speaker 1: I have to say this, at least six more times.
- 30:12Speaker 4: I also have a question, Aaron, have you not seen
- 30:15Speaker 4: First Blood?
- 30:16Speaker 2: I have not must seen parts of it.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Not the whole movie movie night after.
- 30:23Speaker 1: Yeah, the series naming structure that walked so that all
- 30:27Speaker 1: of the modern ones could run in terms of just
- 30:29Speaker 1: being called first Blood and then the next one being
- 30:31Speaker 1: called Rambo First Blood Part two, and.
- 30:34Speaker 4: Then Rambo three and then John Rambo and the Last Blood.
- 30:39Speaker 1: Yep, last Blood really last Blood?
- 30:43Speaker 2: Wow?
- 30:43Speaker 1: Okay, fun, Yeah, I feel like they didn't get but
- 30:47Speaker 1: the whole anyway, never mind, time, Okay, we're going to
- 30:52Speaker 1: move back on over to the Machismo Masters, and here's
- 30:57Speaker 1: your next quote. Hey, Well, as far as I'm concerned,
- 31:01Speaker 1: progress peaked with Frozen Pizza. I'm not as certain about
- 31:04Speaker 1: this one.
- 31:07Speaker 4: I could I mean, I could see Rocky saying that,
- 31:11Speaker 4: but I don't know if that counts as an eighties
- 31:13Speaker 4: action movie.
- 31:13Speaker 1: It's like a sports movie. Also seventy eight when.
- 31:19Speaker 4: But I mean it could have been there was what
- 31:22Speaker 4: like three of them in the eighties. I could hear
- 31:25Speaker 4: that in Sly's voice as Rocky, But I'm not confident
- 31:28Speaker 4: with that answer.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I'm not either as it for sure. You don't have
- 31:33Speaker 1: to go with it. If you're not confident with it.
- 31:35Speaker 1: I could try and tempt you towards it. Can I
- 31:37Speaker 1: hear it again? Absolutely? Hey, Well, as far as I'm concerned,
- 31:41Speaker 1: progress peaked with frozen Pizza. I don't know. It kind
- 31:44Speaker 1: of sounds like Bruce Willis.
- 31:46Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, I could see John McLean saying that as well.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Oh, this is tough.
- 31:53Speaker 4: I'll lean on your expertise. You've never lost one of
- 31:55Speaker 4: these games, Alex.
- 31:59Speaker 1: Annie, Bruce, Sly, you picked Ben.
- 32:03Speaker 4: I'll go for mister Willis.
- 32:07Speaker 1: It is indeed mister Willis. And for a for another point,
- 32:10Speaker 1: the film that it's from die Hard Too. It is
- 32:14Speaker 1: indeed die Hard Too, released in nineteen ninety but presumably
- 32:18Speaker 1: filmed in nineteen eighty nine. Good stuff, Yeah, well done,
- 32:24Speaker 1: holding up under.
- 32:25Speaker 3: I have no idea Bruce Willis and die Hard Too.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Contra clues. Uh huh? Good stuff? All right? Moving back
- 32:35Speaker 1: on over to top fun. Here is your next quote. Ready,
- 32:39Speaker 1: this is what you're going to look like dead. It's
- 32:45Speaker 1: a great line.
- 32:49Speaker 2: I'll be honest. I have no idea.
- 32:52Speaker 1: It's it's giving Arnie.
- 32:55Speaker 2: It is giving Arnie vibes.
- 32:57Speaker 3: Yes, I have no actual and to think that other
- 33:01Speaker 3: than just the energy, the energy I'm being provided. I
- 33:05Speaker 3: can imagine him saying it. But I that's as far
- 33:09Speaker 3: as I you're.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Going with Annie.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I don't have anything else it is.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, yeah, that's that's the point. But you
- 33:20Speaker 1: don't recognize now the quote do you want.
- 33:22Speaker 2: A lucky break for the lucky break?
- 33:25Speaker 4: He only made a couple of movies in the eighties, Yeah, like.
- 33:30Speaker 1: Sixty. He was a busy bee.
- 33:35Speaker 2: I have no rollbo he was.
- 33:43Speaker 1: Not. Again, I won't accept her a book up.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Bear that's a better guess. But I don't think it
- 33:52Speaker 2: was in the eighties.
- 33:53Speaker 1: I don't think I think that was too early.
- 33:55Speaker 2: I'm gonna take a shot at Red Heat.
- 34:00Speaker 1: O great going with Red Heat. It's not red Hate.
- 34:06Speaker 2: I could tell as soon as you said.
- 34:10Speaker 1: I liked it as a guest though. It was a
- 34:12Speaker 1: Roll Deal. This is from This is from Roll Deal and.
- 34:16Speaker 2: Other movie he did with three letters and then four letters.
- 34:20Speaker 1: Yeah, you were confusing though. All right, another quote from
- 34:24Speaker 1: Machismo Masters. Here it is You're a disease, and I'm
- 34:29Speaker 1: the cure. That is Arnold, and I believe that its Predator.
- 34:35Speaker 1: Ben it does it is Arnold. Let's go with it.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Go with Arnold and Predator. Sure it is not.
- 34:42Speaker 2: I'm sorry, I think I know what it might be.
- 34:48Speaker 2: Sylvester Stalone and Cobra.
- 34:51Speaker 1: I'm not giving you any points for it because we're
- 34:53Speaker 1: not playing that kind of game here, Aaron, but yes,
- 34:55Speaker 1: it is a date nice salone and Cobra very cool.
- 34:59Speaker 4: I was getting judged red vibes off of it. But
- 35:00Speaker 4: I'm like, man, just read his fucking nineties.
- 35:03Speaker 1: That can't do it. But Cobra's not a good call.
- 35:06Speaker 2: Hey, Cobra's so cheesy.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'm gonna is there is there a line similar to
- 35:15Speaker 1: it in Predator? I mean yeah, I mean it's I
- 35:19Speaker 1: don't I mean that just screams like you know, he
- 35:23Speaker 1: kills the predator and it sounds like something he would say,
- 35:25Speaker 1: or the predator or something like that. So it's it's
- 35:29Speaker 1: a quip. Yeah, I was. I was super confident. Hey,
- 35:33Speaker 1: I like the confidence, but no points. That no points. Okay,
- 35:38Speaker 1: I've got one final quote for each team. Top fun
- 35:41Speaker 1: here it is. Here is your quote. If you're walking
- 35:43Speaker 1: around thinking that the world owes you something because you're here,
- 35:48Speaker 1: you go in out the world backwards like you did
- 35:50Speaker 1: when you first come here. Huh good.
- 35:54Speaker 2: I think that is Sylvester Saloon.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Then I also think it's still and I think.
- 36:01Speaker 2: It might be one of the Rocky movies. But I
- 36:03Speaker 2: have no idea which one. But okay, I'll say Sylvester if.
- 36:07Speaker 3: You're okay with it, Absolutely Sylvester Stallone.
- 36:12Speaker 1: It's not Sylvester Stallone. Plot twist is this belongs to
- 36:16Speaker 1: Bruce Willis? Okay? So for a for a bonus point,
- 36:22Speaker 1: do you want to name what this is from?
- 36:23Speaker 2: It's not any of the diard It's not even the
- 36:26Speaker 2: third one. Read it again.
- 36:29Speaker 1: If you're walking around thinking that the world owes you
- 36:32Speaker 1: something because you're here, you're going out the world backwards
- 36:35Speaker 1: like you did when you first come here.
- 36:38Speaker 3: It doesn't sound as deep the second time around.
- 36:42Speaker 1: I will say, no, I love it. I'm stealing it.
- 36:47Speaker 1: I can't.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I got nothing die Hard three, yeah, A striking distance.
- 36:55Speaker 1: Yes, it's not either of those.
- 36:57Speaker 2: I think it was the nineties movie.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Anyway, we'll find out in the Nightties action movie episode.
- 37:03Speaker 2: No.
- 37:04Speaker 1: This was from his nineteen eighties hit single Respect Yourself.
- 37:07Speaker 1: This is from Bruce Willis's hit entry into the pop charts,
- 37:14Speaker 1: new Asshole. So I'm sorry, no points there, rude. I
- 37:21Speaker 1: want we're in a store for okay, ma, Chief small Masters,
- 37:26Speaker 1: let's yeah, let's find out what you've got. Here is
- 37:28Speaker 1: your final quote. I want to reach out to everyone,
- 37:31Speaker 1: young and old, rich and poor, people of all religions,
- 37:35Speaker 1: all colors, and all nationalities. Immediate guests beIN is sly.
- 37:40Speaker 4: I was thinking like Arnie, like when did he ever?
- 37:46Speaker 4: Did he ever get like an Oscar?
- 37:47Speaker 1: I doubt it. I really don't. I don't think that
- 37:51Speaker 1: long of a since my guy.
- 37:53Speaker 4: But like it's got like with the way where that
- 37:55Speaker 4: last one went, I'd be surprised if this isn't from
- 37:57Speaker 4: a movie. It's just something they said on like an
- 37:59Speaker 4: interview on fron letter or some ship.
- 38:04Speaker 2: But it was Arnold's acceptance speech when he became governor
- 38:07Speaker 2: of California.
- 38:10Speaker 1: It was mister universe, can you read it again? Absolutely?
- 38:15Speaker 1: I want to reach out to everyone, young and old,
- 38:18Speaker 1: rich and poor, people of old religions, old colors, and
- 38:22Speaker 1: old nationalities trying to get in the headspace. I see
- 38:30Speaker 1: where you're coming. I mean to be honest, I have
- 38:35Speaker 1: no fucking clues. If you want to retail, I don't know.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I can't.
- 38:42Speaker 1: I don't know. Narrowed it down to audio Sly, I like.
- 38:44Speaker 4: It unless it's Bruce Willis from that same stupid album.
- 38:49Speaker 1: I've got no clue.
- 38:50Speaker 4: Alex if you if you want to, if you're leaning
- 38:51Speaker 4: towards Sly, that's more inclination than I have it.
- 38:55Speaker 1: Just yeah, I feel like I don't know. I was
- 38:57Speaker 1: wrong last time, So let's go show Gomsli. It's not
- 39:02Speaker 1: it's Arnie. I'm afraid. And if you could say, what
- 39:04Speaker 1: piece of media this Arnold Twartzenek a quote comes from,
- 39:08Speaker 1: I can still give you a bonus point piece of media.
- 39:10Speaker 2: Listen to that.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Who who is the late night talk show host in
- 39:16Speaker 1: the eighties.
- 39:17Speaker 4: I mean you still had h Johnny Carson feels like
- 39:21Speaker 4: he's on.
- 39:21Speaker 1: A promo tour and he's talking about a movie that
- 39:25Speaker 1: has no bearing of anything he just said. Yeah, but
- 39:29Speaker 1: he's trying to make an appeal to a broad audience,
- 39:35Speaker 1: apologizing for banging his made apology. He's preparing to bang
- 39:44Speaker 1: the maid.
- 39:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that his proposal. I'd like to bang maids of
- 39:51Speaker 4: all national.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 40:02Speaker 4: You want to go with Late Night Dark Show?
- 40:04Speaker 1: I have no idea.
- 40:05Speaker 4: I've literally no tool. This is some deep Wikipedia black magic.
- 40:10Speaker 1: So look, I late Night Talk Show is a great guess.
- 40:15Speaker 1: I really like that as a guest. This is this
- 40:18Speaker 1: is actually what Aaron said. It's his two thousand and
- 40:20Speaker 1: three California governor acceptance speak that didn't even happen in
- 40:24Speaker 1: the eighties to say, was it him supporting Kamala Harris?
- 40:31Speaker 2: Now, I thought your reaction, Matt was a little odd.
- 40:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I was trying to keep quiet about that one.
- 40:39Speaker 2: I know.
- 40:39Speaker 1: The setup of the game is that it was a
- 40:41Speaker 1: quote from an eighties action star and then just name
- 40:43Speaker 1: the film afterwards. So a little sneaky with that one, there,
- 40:48Speaker 1: you little shit. But hey, we're all having fun. Okay,
- 40:51Speaker 1: that's the end of round one. Let's ask the nerd
- 40:53Speaker 1: with the computer back at headquarters to calculate the latest scores.
- 40:58Speaker 1: The hacker and the scores are top Fun are on
- 41:00Speaker 1: five points. The Macheeseball Masters are on four points, still
- 41:04Speaker 1: very close.
- 41:05Speaker 2: Ye up.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Next is Round two, but if you're in the US,
- 41:08Speaker 1: we have to play some commercials, and if you're not
- 41:11Speaker 1: in the US, get out of here, your Carmi Bastards.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Round two is a new game called First Draft, or
- 41:24Speaker 1: for this episode, Rambo First Draft Part two. I fucked
- 41:28Speaker 1: that up. I'm not going to read it again. I'm
- 41:30Speaker 1: going to leave it in. It's the game where our
- 41:33Speaker 1: players will compose original screenplay scenes using just three words
- 41:38Speaker 1: at a time, like all professional writers in Hollywood. In turn,
- 41:42Speaker 1: I'm going to give each of our pairs a typical
- 41:44Speaker 1: setting from this genre of film. Our players must then
- 41:47Speaker 1: give us a short scene in this setting. Points will
- 41:51Speaker 1: be awarded for genre accuracy and tropes sticking to three
- 41:55Speaker 1: words at a time, and for if the scene makes
- 41:58Speaker 1: any sense at all, you'll get lots of points. We've
- 42:01Speaker 1: played this game before with written narrative one word at
- 42:04Speaker 1: a time, but this is about each of you taking
- 42:06Speaker 1: on the role of a character in the scene, so
- 42:08Speaker 1: most of your three words will most likely be dialogue
- 42:11Speaker 1: between those two characters, unless you want to say something
- 42:14Speaker 1: like John shoot's gun. If you want to have a
- 42:16Speaker 1: stage direction in there as well, feel free to throw
- 42:19Speaker 1: that in. Oh, and before you start each fick, we're
- 42:22Speaker 1: going to spin the word wheel as if this game
- 42:25Speaker 1: wasn't confusing enough, and if you manage to include that
- 42:29Speaker 1: word within your scene, you will score a bonus point.
- 42:32Speaker 1: We've got plenty of words. It's your classic set of words,
- 42:34Speaker 1: you classic set of eight words. We've got explosion, Canoli's lacrosse, bulletproof, pika, chew,
- 42:42Speaker 1: don't know why that's there, Christmas, bazooka, and pegging.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Just all the classic words, all the big hitters, just.
- 42:51Speaker 1: Your standard eight words there. Okay, So we're going to
- 42:54Speaker 1: kick things off with top fun because they are top
- 42:57Speaker 1: fun and they're ready to have some fun. Absolutely. So
- 43:01Speaker 1: your first premise is two buddy cops at the precinct
- 43:05Speaker 1: who have just received a hot case. So whenever one
- 43:08Speaker 1: of you is ready to take the lead on the scene,
- 43:10Speaker 1: three words at a time, and we'll stop whenever we stop,
- 43:14Speaker 1: should we spin the wheel?
- 43:15Speaker 3: Oh?
- 43:15Speaker 1: Yes, of course, spinning the wheel first. Got to have
- 43:18Speaker 1: the word ordre. Do you want to give it a spin? Yes,
- 43:21Speaker 1: look at it?
- 43:21Speaker 2: Go.
- 43:22Speaker 1: Would you say explosions are pegging? Pegging? I mean it
- 43:27Speaker 1: it's on explosions, it's on it. Okay, it's on explosions,
- 43:30Speaker 1: darn it. Okay, so if you can get explosion in
- 43:34Speaker 1: your scene, you'll score an extra point. Okay, so whenever
- 43:37Speaker 1: one of you is ready, take it away with a
- 43:39Speaker 1: three word line, wanted criminal.
- 43:43Speaker 3: Dance again these fuckers, how get loose? Prison wall explosion?
- 43:56Speaker 2: Clever? Too clever?
- 44:00Speaker 1: What are you thinking?
- 44:03Speaker 2: Contacting old friends?
- 44:06Speaker 3: Let's get them pulling up somewhere.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I grab keys, let's ride partner. I think that's that's
- 44:19Speaker 1: end that scene. We can enter that good stuff.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 44:22Speaker 3: Oh we fist bump, we fist bump, we fist bump
- 44:25Speaker 3: is the three.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Fist bump explodes.
- 44:30Speaker 1: There are two explosions in there. No bonus points for that,
- 44:34Speaker 1: but you do get the bonus point for including the
- 44:37Speaker 1: word explosion. And I think that made sense as a
- 44:40Speaker 1: as a scene between two people. Aaron, you set it
- 44:42Speaker 1: up nicely. Receiving receiving a case file people escaping from prison. Yeah,
- 44:48Speaker 1: there's some good stuff in there. That was technically a narrative.
- 44:52Speaker 4: It was like caveman Cops, how good loose?
- 44:59Speaker 2: Should have said got loose again, but didn't occur to me.
- 45:03Speaker 1: We're growing, Yeah, don'torry, you'll get you'll get another try
- 45:06Speaker 1: at it. We'll do a couple of these each, I think.
- 45:08Speaker 1: So moving on over Tom Cheesemo masters. Uh no point score,
- 45:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you've got four points. You got you got
- 45:16Speaker 1: three for your performance and then a bonus for the
- 45:18Speaker 1: word hefty, My Cheesemo masters. Your premise is two elite
- 45:24Speaker 1: soldiers discussing how to attack the enemy base. We need
- 45:29Speaker 1: a word, and your word that looks like bulletproof to me.
- 45:35Speaker 1: So your word is bulletproof. So if you can get
- 45:37Speaker 1: the word bulletproof in there, you'll score a bonus point.
- 45:41Speaker 1: So whenever one of you is ready to kickstart this scene,
- 45:44Speaker 1: two elite soldiers discussing how to attack the enemy base.
- 45:48Speaker 4: My bozooka, please hold on shit, bulletproof vest too nice.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Grabs best. It's only two words, grenade. You gotta have
- 46:07Speaker 2: your best grenade, best too, Please grabs the best grenade.
- 46:20Speaker 4: Surrounded by fools, big time bazooka.
- 46:26Speaker 1: Thank you Doug much love, Bert.
- 46:34Speaker 4: Bert hugs.
- 46:35Speaker 1: Doug said it that. I mean, I was like, okay,
- 46:42Speaker 1: are they going to get to attacking the base? But
- 46:44Speaker 1: then I was just invested in books. Okay, this holds
- 46:47Speaker 1: My thing holds true.
- 46:50Speaker 3: These stories are about two men who need to go
- 46:53Speaker 3: through trauma in order to tell each other that they care.
- 46:56Speaker 1: That's what this is about.
- 46:58Speaker 4: One of them is gonna die in the next in.
- 47:03Speaker 2: The other one's arms.
- 47:05Speaker 1: Yeah, oh yeah, I love that so much. I like
- 47:08Speaker 1: the idea of a vest vest grenade. I couldn't tell
- 47:11Speaker 1: if you were trying to pull the grenade off of
- 47:13Speaker 1: his vest. I don't know.
- 47:16Speaker 4: I mean a vest grenade, like like frequently they've got
- 47:20Speaker 4: the grenades hanging on their vest.
- 47:21Speaker 1: So yeah, definitely, definitely, Yeah, I'm gonna I'm gonna go
- 47:26Speaker 1: one point higher. I'm gonna say you've got a huge
- 47:28Speaker 1: trope in there. You popped me big time. Yeah. Five
- 47:32Speaker 1: points four for the performance, one for your inclusion of
- 47:35Speaker 1: bulletproof good stuff. Okay, let's get some more conflict in
- 47:38Speaker 1: these scenes this time around, I think, so. Moving back
- 47:41Speaker 1: on over to top fun, your premise is hero and
- 47:45Speaker 1: villain arguing on a rooftop as a bomb counts down,
- 47:50Speaker 1: and your word ordre give it a spin. It's Carnole's,
- 47:55Speaker 1: So you've got to get Canole's in there somewhere. And
- 47:59Speaker 1: your pre miss once more is he wrote and villain
- 48:02Speaker 1: arguing on a rooftop as a bomb counts down. Take
- 48:04Speaker 1: it away, You'll never live neither will you?
- 48:12Speaker 2: Tick tick tick three words. Oh gosh, Italian restaurant rooftop.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Your wife's here, you villain, Martha, I'm the wife now, okay,
- 48:37Speaker 1: let me go, very good.
- 48:41Speaker 2: Let her go.
- 48:44Speaker 1: Never she's dying.
- 48:48Speaker 2: Cannoley's save you.
- 48:53Speaker 1: You sure will. Why does she sound like this?
- 48:59Speaker 2: Rose away?
- 49:02Speaker 1: Wow, my hero? And one last line from the villain. God,
- 49:07Speaker 1: damn it, there we go.
- 49:09Speaker 2: I'm still indead.
- 49:14Speaker 1: My favorite part about that, Ordre is how much you
- 49:17Speaker 1: were struggling, and then you were like, I know, I'll
- 49:19Speaker 1: add another character that will make Yeah. That was good
- 49:24Speaker 1: job cranking up the difficulty are an excellent job getting
- 49:27Speaker 1: Canoli's in there. Naturally. I believed it was the curse
- 49:30Speaker 1: word of this hero. Yeah, it worked very nicely.
- 49:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Four points for your performance and one point for the
- 49:36Speaker 1: canol Absolutely okay. Moving back on over for our final
- 49:41Speaker 1: film performance, coming to a cinema, never macheese, my masters.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Here is your final premise, he wrote, And villain must
- 49:49Speaker 1: suddenly team up to stop the killer cydebox bit more
- 49:53Speaker 1: sci fi action here, and your word.
- 50:00Speaker 2: It is.
- 50:01Speaker 1: I didn't even have to freak it like so often
- 50:04Speaker 1: in life, we've landed on pegging, like so often in life.
- 50:08Speaker 2: I wanted pegging and I got it.
- 50:12Speaker 1: And ended up with Canolis. Yeah, your premise once more.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Hero and villain must suddenly team up to stop the
- 50:22Speaker 1: killer Cyborgs. So whenever one of you is ready, take
- 50:25Speaker 1: it away.
- 50:26Speaker 4: These damn cyborgs here to peg.
- 50:35Speaker 1: They're pegging me. No, damn you please help.
- 50:42Speaker 2: Pain shoots gun twice, nice collapses, smiling empty.
- 50:54Speaker 1: Buckle up, buddy, Let's get them back to you. Ill, chill,
- 51:01Speaker 1: it is good stuff. The hero and villain have teamed
- 51:04Speaker 1: up after some kind of pegging based attack from the
- 51:08Speaker 1: killer Syebalds, but the hero decided to save the villain anyway.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Incredible.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm gonna give you. I'm gonna give
- 51:15Speaker 1: you three points for your performance, but definitely the biggest
- 51:17Speaker 1: bonus point for managing to include the most difficult word
- 51:21Speaker 1: to manage to fit the most difficult word in is
- 51:24Speaker 1: that good phrasing? Then yes in two different filled in yeah,
- 51:33Speaker 1: all right, and I guess we'll never find out what
- 51:35Speaker 1: happens if Pikachu's in an eighties action movie. We'll never
- 51:37Speaker 1: know until next time.
- 51:40Speaker 2: I must say I'm a little disappointed you didn't include
- 51:43Speaker 2: one of the primo trope scenes, the hero getting chewed
- 51:47Speaker 2: out by his captain.
- 51:49Speaker 1: Maybe maybe there'll be some captain chewing out later on
- 51:52Speaker 1: in the quick fire around. We'll find out. We'll find out,
- 51:55Speaker 1: Oh my god. But for now, the yeah, I.
- 51:58Speaker 2: Knew you wouldn't disappoint men.
- 52:00Speaker 1: That is the end of the round. I'll get someone
- 52:03Speaker 1: on you back in Nam to calculate the latest scores.
- 52:07Speaker 1: Don't worry, he's harmless, okay, top fun. You are on
- 52:12Speaker 1: fourteen points. The machif more masters just behind on thirteen points.
- 52:17Speaker 1: But you both scored very well in that round. It's close,
- 52:20Speaker 1: too close, too close for comfort.
- 52:22Speaker 3: I don't know if that's actually from something, but it
- 52:24Speaker 3: felt like it should be.
- 52:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Now we're all going to use the voice. Yeah,
- 52:32Speaker 1: you guys are walking erin like that. It's so rude.
- 52:35Speaker 3: He finally was open with us about this, and we
- 52:38Speaker 3: just throw it in his.
- 52:40Speaker 1: It's pretty cool. I am so insecure right now, well
- 52:46Speaker 1: with Aaron's insecurity. Round three next after these ads for
- 52:49Speaker 1: the military Industrial complex, probably back soon. Round three is
- 52:59Speaker 1: cold answers in the comments. I've tested your knowledge of
- 53:03Speaker 1: quotes from the action stars themselves, But what about quotes
- 53:06Speaker 1: from lonely fans at two am on YouTube? I will
- 53:10Speaker 1: read a genuine YouTube comment, and when a player thinks
- 53:14Speaker 1: they can name the movie and scene that that comment
- 53:17Speaker 1: was left below, buzz in for your chance to score points.
- 53:22Speaker 1: You buzz in by saying shut it kid?
- 53:25Speaker 2: Like that It shut it Kid?
- 53:28Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly, just like that. Perfect And as a player,
- 53:32Speaker 1: you can only buzz in once per comment, So that
- 53:34Speaker 1: means each team gets two guesses per YouTube comment, and
- 53:38Speaker 1: the earlier you get the correct answer, the more points
- 53:40Speaker 1: you'll score. Any questions, is it specifically for a movie
- 53:46Speaker 1: in the eighties? It's not some sort of like it's
- 53:49Speaker 1: not a plot twist, you're not. Yes, I've done my
- 53:52Speaker 1: cheeky little twist in the first round. I'm just gonna
- 53:56Speaker 1: double check that I didn't throw in like a no.
- 53:59Speaker 1: These are all definitely eight nineteen eighties action movies, all
- 54:03Speaker 1: of them. Okay, but it's a very fair question, and
- 54:08Speaker 1: I've changed the name of the users for anonymity, but
- 54:11Speaker 1: I promise you these genuine YouTube comments, so it's gonna
- 54:15Speaker 1: get wild double secrecy. So this this first one, anyone
- 54:20Speaker 1: can buzz in at any point This first comment comes
- 54:23Speaker 1: from user f Boy nine thousand, and here's what they
- 54:26Speaker 1: had to say. I saw it in the cinema, and
- 54:29Speaker 1: even people sitting in the cinema kind of instinctively pushed
- 54:33Speaker 1: back in their seats as it walked in, just like
- 54:36Speaker 1: the people the cinema audience kind of identify with the
- 54:40Speaker 1: experience of the people sitting in the boardroom in the
- 54:44Speaker 1: movie Shut it In? Is that what I was to say, Yes,
- 54:48Speaker 1: yes it is. I think I heard Aaron first though.
- 54:51Speaker 2: This was Romocop. And this is the scene where Edy
- 54:55Speaker 2: two o nine kills one of the executives in a demo.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Yeah, it absolutely is. For three points, it is that
- 55:03Speaker 1: scene from RoboCop.
- 55:04Speaker 2: Sorry, Ben just pipped you. Yeah.
- 55:07Speaker 4: As soon as you said boardroom, I was like, okay.
- 55:10Speaker 1: It's got to be robot Cop.
- 55:12Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:12Speaker 1: Not many other boardroom scenes in action movies, I suppose. Okay.
- 55:16Speaker 1: This next YouTube comment genuine YouTube comment. You can look
- 55:19Speaker 1: these up if you would want to do that. It
- 55:22Speaker 1: comes from Carnivore challenge three six five, and here's what
- 55:26Speaker 1: they had to say. Reminds me of the loyalties between
- 55:29Speaker 1: my older brother and I. He's six years older and
- 55:33Speaker 1: has a child who hates me. So the dynamic to
- 55:35Speaker 1: our brotherhood has a similar aspect to it. That makes
- 55:39Speaker 1: it important. We handle everything differently when we're apart, but
- 55:43Speaker 1: when we're together we could take on anything, just like
- 55:47Speaker 1: these two sat on the toilet.
- 55:50Speaker 2: Yes, Aaron, lethal weapon two bombing the toilet scene. Yeah,
- 55:56Speaker 2: it is is lethal weapon too, bombing the toilet scene.
- 55:59Speaker 1: I knew it was.
- 56:00Speaker 4: I knew it was a lethal weapon of Sunset. I
- 56:03Speaker 4: was like, okay, which had to be a buddy cop movie.
- 56:06Speaker 4: But yeah, which one?
- 56:09Speaker 1: Yeah, you're getting a full life story of this person
- 56:12Speaker 1: on YouTube. Two points for that one, Aaron, yeaht here
- 56:16Speaker 1: a bit more of the comment there. Next YouTube comment
- 56:18Speaker 1: comes from Esteemed Gentleman seventy one, and here's what they
- 56:22Speaker 1: had to say. If you're not a formidable force, there's
- 56:25Speaker 1: no morality in your self control. If you're incapable of violence,
- 56:30Speaker 1: not being violent isn't a virtue. Jordan Peterson, I've lived slash,
- 56:36Speaker 1: said a paraphrased version of that for many years. He
- 56:39Speaker 1: learned to control himself and warned the sheriff to stop pushing. Yes, Ben,
- 56:47Speaker 1: this is this is first blood. Yes for sure, and
- 56:52Speaker 1: a scene I'm gonna get I mean, without hearing more,
- 56:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna go early on in the movie, it's when
- 57:01Speaker 1: he h kicks the cops ass in the jail, because
- 57:04Speaker 1: it's the first time he warned somebody and then kicked
- 57:06Speaker 1: their ass. That's not the scene I've got here.
- 57:09Speaker 4: Well, it could be a bunch of them.
- 57:12Speaker 2: Is it the scene where the sheriff escorts him out
- 57:14Speaker 2: of town?
- 57:15Speaker 1: You didn't tell me you shut up, kid, And so sorry, Aaron,
- 57:18Speaker 1: you're also frozen out from this one. So we've got
- 57:20Speaker 1: one guest left forgot what movie we said it was? Well,
- 57:25Speaker 1: I'll keep reading the comment kid, Yes, Ordre first Blood.
- 57:33Speaker 3: Yes, the scene where the cop escorts him out of town.
- 57:39Speaker 1: No, it's not. It's only Alex who can make a guest.
- 57:46Speaker 1: I can read more of the comment as well. There
- 57:49Speaker 1: are several lessons worth learning in this movie. This is
- 57:52Speaker 1: what a true man of violent self control looks like.
- 57:55Speaker 1: In the forest, he could have killed all of the cops,
- 57:58Speaker 1: but he knows it was wrong. Like, I guess I
- 58:01Speaker 1: missed it. Did we confirm this the movie? It is indeed? Okay, yeah,
- 58:05Speaker 1: I have no I have no idea the scene, any
- 58:09Speaker 1: scene shut a kid at the end of the movie.
- 58:16Speaker 1: Do you know what it does happen near the end
- 58:17Speaker 1: of the movies? That's one point.
- 58:20Speaker 4: Would it have worked, I be said, the scene where
- 58:22Speaker 4: he's in the forest and doesn't kill the cops.
- 58:25Speaker 1: Yes, that would have worked. Yeah, I've got Rambow hunts
- 58:33Speaker 1: cops in the forest. It's the was the scene title,
- 58:36Speaker 1: but it's like half the movie. It was the title
- 58:42Speaker 1: of the YouTube scene. I don't know what to tell you.
- 58:43Speaker 3: And yet none of us guessed it.
- 58:47Speaker 1: Hey, I got it. Yeah, yeah, Alex got it.
- 58:50Speaker 3: For a point, right, stick up for yourself.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Heck yes, okay. Next YouTube comment. This comes from user
- 58:58Speaker 1: roll dogging Poul patrol all six the Predator, who just
- 59:05Speaker 1: means watching it without looking at his phone. I don't know. Yeah.
- 59:09Speaker 1: The comment is, guys, I've seen this movie yesterday for
- 59:14Speaker 1: the first time in my life, and I literally couldn't
- 59:17Speaker 1: get this scene. I was laughing many times now when
- 59:21Speaker 1: I have checked the comment section. It's even better that
- 59:25Speaker 1: this is improvised. I mean scenes like this classic bat
- 59:29Speaker 1: dubs always prove me right when I say that acting
- 59:33Speaker 1: is a superior kind of improvised. Yes, Alex, When Arnold
- 59:39Speaker 1: and Dylan are I forget who it is like his
- 59:43Speaker 1: real name, Carl Weather's meet for the first time in Predator,
- 59:48Speaker 1: It's it's not I'm afraid, kid, Yes, Aaron is it?
- 59:54Speaker 2: Blade Runner. At the end of the movie, when Rutger
- 59:57Speaker 2: Howard gives the famous speech to Harrison Ford.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: It's not I'm afraid. I'm gonna keep reading the comments.
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: Shut it, kidle, I'm gonna throw a guess out here.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Yes, Ben is it the.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: Is it?
- 1:00:10Speaker 4: The scene in the chopper at the beginning of Predator,
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: It's not because I know that's not improvised.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: The rest of the comment for Audra masterpiece, just like
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: Surge is art a masterpiece. I would buy art from
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: Serge if he was selling it.
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: Oh my god, Oh my god.
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: I know what it is, so does Odra.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: I'm sure here we are only me can buzz in.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: You know, I don't know the answer.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: I have faith in you.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: Like a video drive policeman, give her a chance to guess. Yeah,
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: do you want to tell me a shut it and
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: take a guess? Shut it?
- 1:00:54Speaker 3: I think this is he said. Policemen say, Robo, I
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: don't know. He does laser eyes on the paintings.
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: We'd like to see it, but it's totally improvised. Totally improvised.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: CG.
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, Alex, for no points. Is it Beverly Hills
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: cop when Axel Folly meets Surge in the art room.
- 1:01:22Speaker 3: It is.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: Indeed. I don't know why this raw dogging Paul Patrol
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: Sex use a hat to say all of that stuff
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: before it, but they did so.
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: They just had something to get off their chest.
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: You said Surge, and I knew immediately who it was. Yeah,
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: it seems like quite a good scene to be improvised
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: as well. It was like genuinely funny. It's great.
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: It's great, and the scenes with Surge get better as
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: the series goes on.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: Nice. Hell yeah, sorry, I'm still laughing at the voice.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: Is the thing, Harry, Just every time you say something
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: and then the silence.
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: I know I'm a funny guy to you.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: I get it, just like they say in action movies.
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: This is great. Okay.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: One final YouTube comment in this round. It is from
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: user nothing Beats Eighties Coke, and here's what they had
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: to say. I have written a song specifically about this scene.
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: It includes Ridge ass girl aviators wearing Oozy Guy, Ridge's
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: bag full of decoys and the namesake weapon itself. I'll
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: have to record it and post it as a response
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: to this. Actually, fuck it, this is gonna be the
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: music video Winky Face, best frisbee scene in movie history? Oh,
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: who throws a frisbee?
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: We're just waiting for letting you go first this time, Odre,
- 1:02:39Speaker 4: we totally know it.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: I'm sure.
- 1:02:44Speaker 3: Shut it kid, Yes, I think this is back to
- 1:02:48Speaker 3: the future where he throws that pie.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: Tin that is a frisbee throw. Yeah, it's not this film, though,
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: I guess better guess than I am.
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: Clever girl.
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: That's also yeah, and he guesses maybe a much lower
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: budget film. Could you read it again? I sure could.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: He'll still be over one point. But I have written
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: a song specifically about this scene. It includes Ridge as
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: girl aviators wearing ouzy guy, Ridge's bag full of decoys,
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: and the namesake weapon itself. I'll have to record it
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: and post it as a response to this. Actually fuck it,
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: this is gonna be the music video winky Face, best
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: frisbee scene in movie history?
- 1:03:34Speaker 2: Is it? Shut it kid?
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: Yes, Aaron.
- 1:03:39Speaker 2: I can't remember the name of the movie it was.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: It was this horrendous, awful eighties action movie, something like
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: Hard Target Hawaii and there's a scene I think where
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: somebody throws a frisbee and it lodges in the guy's
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: back as he's shooting a gun. It's the dumbest thing
- 1:04:02Speaker 2: I've ever seen.
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: You've luck, You've described the scene pretty much exactly spot on.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: I'm just I'm just unsure what to do with the
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: point though, because it's it's it's hard ticket to Hawaii
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: and not hard target to Hawaii. It's a six letter word.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: Give me the point, I say, he gets the point.
- 1:04:25Speaker 1: That's great, that's fair.
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: I was pretty close.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I've got razor blade frisbee assassination scene. Yeah, it's
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: the That is the dumbest movie.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: I just want to see that scene. Well, Matt knows
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: where the clip is. I can, Yeah, you can see
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: it's there on YouTube. Yeah, it's the he approaches a
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: guard with an oozy and then it's like, hey, you
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: want to play some frisbee, and then they just play
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: frisbee back and forth, and then one time when he
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: gets it back, he puts it in his pouch and
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: then pull out one with razor blades on and throws
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: it at him.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: His pouch.
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: Logic has no place in this movie. So many things
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: in this movie do not make sense. Don't don't even try.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: I think there was also like an assassin riding on
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: a skateboard like hands, standing on a skateboard and shooting
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: a gun while riding that skateboard on his hands.
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: That's logical.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it seemed like the wildest of the eighties movies.
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: Absolutely, how else would you assassinate somebody?
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: Yeah, never let him know your next move. Yeah, no
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: one would predict that.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Wait, what was the namesake weapon? Then the frisbee? Yeah,
- 1:05:43Speaker 2: the ra Rais blade frist bathed classes.
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: This is what I get for assuming people YouTube commenters
- 1:05:51Speaker 4: know what the word namesake means.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I was trying to think of a movie with
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: a golden gun or something else. Something.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: Even the plots in on Wikipedia is like an acid trip.
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: Just honestly, it's worth checking out. But do not try
- 1:06:08Speaker 2: to take logic into it. You will fail.
- 1:06:10Speaker 4: I was gonna say, you've already sold me on it, Darin.
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: You need to keep selling this movie. It's a hard
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: sell and it worked all right. That is the end
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: of round three. The das on my ass to give
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: him the later scores, So let's do that. Top fun
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: kind of jumped out in the lead.
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: There.
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: In that round, you're on twenty points. Achieve more masters
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: you're on fourteen points. Anything can change in the quick
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: fire round, though. But before that quick fire round, let's
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: talk prizes. This episode's star prize is the concept of masculinity.
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: I know, not exactly everyone's favorite concept in twenty twenty four,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: but it's still really good in like two hour doses
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: and preferably played by Kurt Russell as well. But our
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: winning team will also receive your full with benefits if
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: you can survive the quick Fire around, which is next.
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: But first we must play one final set of ads.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: Whatever product they're selling, I'd buy that for a dollar, Okay.
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: Our final quick Fire around will test our players broader
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: pop culture knowledge, and it's called with apologies to our
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: beloved actors, inspired by the Danny Glover lethal weapon line,
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: I'm too old for this shit. In this game, I
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: will give our players clues to actors who are currently
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: alive but over the age of eighty. Those clues will
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: be in the style of a police chief describing the
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: rogue senior agent you have to take down. Oh and
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: of course there's a classic Gates leapers twist. You need
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: to say you're getting too old for this shit after
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: you say your answer, which is why the game is
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: called what it is, because you're going to have to
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: tell a lot of beloved actors that they're getting too
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: old for this shit. It's quick fire, so you buzz
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: in by yelling out your team name. Let's practice that
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: now to Top Funcheo Machico. We could do Machico. I
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: don't even remember what our name was. No master's ergo right? Yeah?
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: One words enough, yeah, one words. We'll say, do you
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: know what machismo? And you've you got? You have to
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: say top Fun. You have to say all of it
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: because top is too short.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: I don't mind.
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: And you said over eighty over the age of eighty. Yes,
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: and at time of recording, they are all alive, but
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: some of them are getting pretty close. Okay, I'll give
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: an example, just so we're all on the same page.
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: If I said, listen up, this guy's got a scar
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: on his face and is going by the alias Sirpico,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: and I want this case closed, there'll be no part
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: two or part three.
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: Top Fun.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Yes, Aaron Clint Eastwood, you're getting too old for this ship.
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: It's not Clint Eastwood this one. This one was al Pacino.
- 1:09:07Speaker 4: I'm trying to remember who we played Surco.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Scarfaces.
- 1:09:14Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, I got it. Didn't mean an actual.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Scar exactly is going to be hidden clues amongst each
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: of the lines from Your Your Captain Nee.
- 1:09:23Speaker 2: I was also trying to think of what actor has
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: a scar on their face?
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: All right, well this is this could be fun. Maybe
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: Clint Eastwood is the only actor over the age of
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: at that we collectively know. We'll find out how this goes.
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: He's going to show up eventually interrupt me at any
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: point here we go. Listen up. This guy's Welsh, but
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: he's sometimes loud and irish when he's owed in.
- 1:09:52Speaker 2: Be careful on. Yes, Aaron Anthony Hopkins, you're getting too
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: old for this ship.
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: I guess he is. Yeah, he really isn't.
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: He's damn good.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Listen up. This dame's so crooked she even shakes down
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: her peers, goes by the alias mun Yes, Ben.
- 1:10:13Speaker 4: Dame, Judy Dench, you're getting too old for.
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: This shit, sorry, Judy. Listen up. This guy's going around
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: saying he's God. He spent some time institutional lot. Yes,
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: Aaron Morgan Freeman. You're getting too old for this shit.
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: It is Morgan Freeman. Good job. Listen up. This geezer's
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: blown the bloody doors off this case and it's wide open.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: They call him the Butler, but I think he's just
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: a muppet. Yes, Ben Um, Oh god damn it. Oh no, Oh,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: what's the old guy called?
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: Oh my brain is farting? Oh god damn it?
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: Is there no time limits?
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: Sorry, Ben, I think it's gone top fun. Yes, Aaron,
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: Tim Curry, you're getting too old for this ship. It's
- 1:11:08Speaker 2: not Tim Curry. It was worth a guess. I didn't
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: I don't think he's any.
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: But I know who it is. But I don't know
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: his name. I don't know. I'm not going to know
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: his name. His name Ready for the hire comes the
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: collective grown. So it was Michael Caine.
- 1:11:26Speaker 2: I knew it.
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: I knew that I could say. I knew that you
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: can say his name in the accent, and it is.
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: Master why it was. Yeah, it was the Butler. I
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: was thinking from clue and he also did one of
- 1:11:40Speaker 2: the muppet.
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: That's true. Actually the clue did apply to both that.
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: Listen up. This guy's the fastest gun in the West.
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: And if you pay him, he'll do it.
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: Yes, Ben clint Eatswood, you're getting too old for this ship.
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: Yes, this one is Clayton e Stwood to good stuff.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: Listen up. This broad's a real clute. She works out
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: now to five and I've got to say my wife
- 1:12:02Speaker 2: loves the tapes. Yes, Ben, Dolly Parton, you're getting too
- 1:12:05Speaker 2: old for this ship. It's not Dolly Potton. No, I
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: gotta say my wife loves those tapes, and unlike most cops,
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: I love my wife top funds.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Yeah, old Jane Fonda, you're getting too old for this ship.
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: It is Jane Fonda.
- 1:12:22Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, yes, yes, workout, lady, work.
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: Out, lady. Listen up. This geezer has been seen in
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: the middle of main Street telling people they shall not pass.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: Oh good saked on that one. I think I heard
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: her first.
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: I M, you're getting too old for this ship.
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: It is in McKellen. I didn't say, sir, that's that's okay.
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: No one said, did they want to say? Dame Judy
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: Dench back earlier. We'll find it. No points.
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: To one. We're moving on.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: No point could be called for that one, all right,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: Next one, dirty pool isn't Michael also, no, he'll he'd
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: probably rejected. There's no way. There's no way he could. Yeah,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: listen up, this Mary needs a poppin and that sounds
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: far more disgusting now that I say it out loud.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Top fun.
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: Yes, Aaron, Dick.
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: Van Dyke, you're getting too old for this shit.
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: It's it's not actually Dick Van Dyke. Just make the
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: hills alive with the sound of justice.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: Oh, top fun, Yes, Odre If it's not Dick Van Dyke,
- 1:13:34Speaker 3: Julie Andrews, you're getting too old for this ship.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: It is Julie Andrews. Yes, I couldn't remember. He's still
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: alive at that point.
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: Back.
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: Yeah, Julie Andrews is still alive at time of recording.
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: That sentence is doing such heavy lifting, especially as we
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: get to these final clues, because listen up, this guy
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: is ninety eight, but he still thinks he's young. Frankenstein's
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: top Fun. Yes, Ben mel Brooks, you're getting too old
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: for this shit. It is indeed mel Brooks ninety eight. Wow, Okay,
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: listen up. This dick maybe ninety nine, but he also
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: needs stopping fun. Yes, Aaron, Dick Van Doke, Now you're
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: too old for this shit. Yes, this is Dick Van Dyke,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: good stuff. Listen up. This Saint is one hundred years old,
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: which means she could still be president of America if
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: she wanted, except not because she's a woman. I'll delete that.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: If Kamala wins, she could be found on the waterfront
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: and goes by Martha Kent. I don't know this one.
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of who top fun.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: Yes, Aaron Angela Lansbury, you're too old for this shirt.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: Now I think she is dead, right, Oh all right,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: I know she didn't murder wrote her, but not on
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: this one. This is what the one hundred year old
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: even Marie Saint still alive, still kicking and quick before
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: the buzzer. Listen up. This guy is old, but time
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: better slowed down for him. Age tried to creep up
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: on this guy once, but he turned around and roundhouse
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: kicked eight face. Yes, Ben, Chuck Norris, you're getting too
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: old for this shit.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: It is indeed, Chuck Norris. He's like eighty four wild.
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: That's the buzzer. I kept waiting for Harrison Ford. Oh yeah, Harris,
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: that would have been a good one. I kept waiting
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: for it.
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: He's in eighties action movies as well. That would have
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: been even better.
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: Oh well, nineties action movies will have Harrison Ford.
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll find someplace for him. We've done an Indiana
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Jones episode check out. Good job there, Ben, I felt
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: like you went on a good run getting I feel
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: like that's your best quick fire around performance.
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: Probably not enough though, I think we needed six points.
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: Then we'll find out. We'll find out. But before we
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: get to those finals go, I'd like to thank a players.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: You've all been reckless, unruly mavericks, but god damn it,
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: you got the job done. That's so kind.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: We also drove up the city's insurance bill, but whatever.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: That's a problem for tomorrow, Aaron, but a problem for today,
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: not a problem. It's the I was trying to do
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: a sechway. It didn't work. The Thane the audiobook is
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: now available. People can now hear a Thane.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: That's correct. The audiobook for thing Kickstarter was a success.
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: Still don't know how, but it was. And now it's
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: live everywhere everywhere you get your audio books audiblebarnsannobleaudiobooks dot Com,
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: the audiobookstore. Yeah, at one place down by the corner
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: your dad told you about it looks kind of skeevy,
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: so you thought maybe not it might be there a check,
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: but it's it's currently, It's currently everywhere you can get
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: audio books. And it was a full cast audiobook. I
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: got professional and some local voice actors who all did
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: an amazing job. And yeah, it turned out so great,
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: and I'm so happy that people are getting to hear it,
- 1:17:15Speaker 2: and I can't wait to hear what people think of it.
- 1:17:17Speaker 2: But it just released just last week, so it's still
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: still a little fresh. But yeah, you can find it
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: wherever you get your audio books. It's called Thane Tha
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: n E by Aaron Randolph, and I promise you I
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: did the narration in the voice I usually put on
- 1:17:37Speaker 2: to this one, so people are gonna you're gonna hear
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: more like this, because I didn't feel like this was
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: a good fit for the audiobook, you know.
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that's that's fat. Yeah. No, I mean, look,
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: if you're listening to this and you've not checked out
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: Thayne yet, get the audiobook and get it for no
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: other reason than Aaron committed to this bit out this
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: entire episode, and you need to.
- 1:18:03Speaker 3: Hear a lot of his normal voice, all of the
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: wonderful things that he makes, and if.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: Nothing else, I'll need the money from the sales to
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: cover the doctor bills for what I've just done.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: The Bible shows of course.
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm gonna get a water.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Quick shout out for b fyt W as well. The
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Panel show podcast that's just as fun as this one.
- 1:18:26Speaker 2: You said it. I don't need to say anything else. Stuff.
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: It's me hurting two stoner dudes through a variety of
- 1:18:35Speaker 2: panel show inspired games, much like this show. We try
- 1:18:40Speaker 2: to copy this show's energy and fail miserably. But we
- 1:18:44Speaker 2: have fun and we love having you guys on, and
- 1:18:47Speaker 2: we love being on this show, so it's all good.
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: We really are sister shows and both. Doing both is
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: my favorite thing, so thank you.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: For having me yet again, Oh, doing both is our
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: favorite thing. Thanks. Thanks for being here. Aaron.
- 1:19:03Speaker 4: You should bring your real voice to the next episode.
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: In the next episode, and maybe that'll pick up the
- 1:19:07Speaker 4: energy a bit.
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: You know what, I might try that after I see
- 1:19:13Speaker 2: an odo laryngologist.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: Yeah, and get that glass of water.
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeap, that water's getting important, all right?
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Good stuff. Links for Thane the audiobook and b fytw
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: in the show notes, Alex, thanks so much for putting
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: up with all this chaos. You've been such a good
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: sports Thanks so much for trialing out a new game
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: with us. Let's let's talk Polar Destroyer. I'm so intrigued
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: by this premise. Obviously you've already shouted out how very
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: influenced by action movies, but it seems like it's got
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: a very unique twist that involves an one of my
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: favorite animals in a Polar Bears. So could you give
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: us a quick a quick sell on the synopsis of
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: the story. So, Polar Destroyer is about Jack and more
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: of a polar bear who lives in the North Pole.
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: He's the king of the North Pole, and all the
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: Polar Bears are more tribalistic in nature, and unbeknownst to them,
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: there is a an uprising of Arctic animals led by
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: the penguins, who use the farious experiments and technology to
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: sort of overpower the brute strength of polar bears, and
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: then in the first issue they pretty much annihilate them
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: and leave our hero left for dead, cut his arm off,
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: kick him over a mountain three hundred style floats onto
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: into a cave without spoiling it. There is a certain
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: individual who lives in the North Pole builds him from
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: the shadows, and so with issue two we pick up
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: from that. We're building up the relationship between that, we
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: are learning about what the motivations are. We're upping the violence,
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: the eighties stick all that, and we're running a campaign
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: on fun My Comic. As of recording, I think we're
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: at sixty three percent. Is I don't know if you
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: guys know this, but making a comic book is really hard. Yeah, yeah, Ben,
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: we've heard three Ben, Yeah, yeah, Yeah. At least Ben
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: has a friend that he can do it with. I'm
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: doing this pretty much all by myself. It's more impressive. Yeah,
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: And so, long story short, it was supposed to be
- 1:21:25Speaker 1: a kickstarter. Something happened beyond my control and so we
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: had to do a pivot at the very last moment,
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: and trying not only to get people to back it,
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: but also trying to herd people into a smaller form platform. Sure,
- 1:21:38Speaker 1: it is a lot of work. I've I've got some
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: great artists on covers this time. I've got Jeremiah Chic,
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: I have Frederick Hornan, Jason Flowers, and of course my
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: interior artist goes by the name the I guess it
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: would be an acronym of heart. I don't want to
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: put anyone's work down, but I do think that my
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: interiors are a step above anything that you're gonna find
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: on an indie campaign.
- 1:22:02Speaker 4: First, up above a lot of the shit you find
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: in the fucking Big Two's. You said it not me,
- 1:22:09Speaker 4: the interior beautiful, it's it's it's really great. I and
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: I am in the belief of putting your best foot
- 1:22:17Speaker 4: forward and trying to do everything that you possibly can,
- 1:22:20Speaker 4: and so the hardest part is trying to get new
- 1:22:23Speaker 4: people into backing it. So we have a bunch of
- 1:22:26Speaker 4: cool stuff. One of the big tears this time around
- 1:22:29Speaker 4: is you get to vote. We're introducing a new character
- 1:22:32Speaker 4: because we can't put people in a book, and you
- 1:22:34Speaker 4: get to vote on how.
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: This character dies. Oh interesting, yep, So you have to
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: you have to pay a little bit of a premium
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: to get into that on that vote, but you get
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: to see what the character looks like before anyone else.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: It will not be released until the book comes out,
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: and so if you want to see it influence the
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: specific way in which a little bit an homage sort
- 1:22:55Speaker 1: of to Jason Todd and Batman in the nineties, where
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: you could call it in vote. It's sort of that
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: to my knowledge, and Ben has also said, I don't
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: think that anyone's done this sort of thing on a
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: crowdfunding campaign. If you're really feeling generous, Frederick, the guy
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: who did my variant cover, is graciously doing commissions of
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: any character you want. Uh, that's the big, big tier.
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: It's called the Santa's Workshop tier. That character from the
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: North Pole, Yeah, that guy, And yeah, no supports and
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: so that's that's pretty much. It got big plans. The
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: full plan is five issues. Hell yeah. And you know,
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: if you want to say it's an allegory for like
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: global warming, that's fine if that gets you to back it,
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: but it's not nice. No, but that honestly, that's the
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: kind of thing that gets me to back even more. So, Yeah,
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: that's that's I love the subtext. I will just say
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: this that I am a big fan of winning but losing,
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: So I'll let that sort of marinate for a second.
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: I like, I like stories where you do win but
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: at at a cost. Losing this game, yeah, that's it.
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: Listening is my fault. No, I love that so much.
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: That sounds fantastic. Yeah, and when this episode comes out,
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: hopefully it's pushing you over the edge in terms of
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: reaching that goal. Yeah, because that sounds like I'm sure
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: anyone who is a big fan of eighties action movies
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: is going to have loved that premise. And look, if
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: you like penguins and polar bears like me, it's going
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: to be an insta bat cybernetic polar bear, cybernetic polar bear.
- 1:24:27Speaker 2: I love it.
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: Thanks, Alex. And also your your podcast, we can hear
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: you on what's your spaghetti policy as well if you
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: if you sewing are inclined to Yes. Yeah, it is
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: is me and my my friend, my best friend Jacob.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: He's an enigma. Ben knows just as uzzling body he is.
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: He's an oddball. But that's what makes it fun. And
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: it is just us getting together every week sometimes talking
- 1:24:53Speaker 1: about topics of the week. We don't we don't really
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: delve into it because like there's not very many shows
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: where you can just again turn to b off and
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: just listen to like morons just like ramble about nonsense,
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: and that's what we do. There's no agenda, you know,
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: there's no political anything. But you can pretty much discern
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: where we fall in all those things. But we just
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: try to keep it light and free, fun. Nice. Yeah,
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: I'll put a link in the show notes for if
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: anyone wants to hear more of your lovely voice. But
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: do the main thing. Look Polar Destroyer, back Polar Destroyer.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: That's that's the headline, please and Ben space Odsease three
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: all wrapped up. It's just a case of can check
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: out issues one, two, and three, right, yep.
- 1:25:36Speaker 4: Yeah, we're one and one and two are are available.
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: Three we're working on right now. It'll be out and well,
- 1:25:42Speaker 4: it'll be out for backers in December. We'll probably put
- 1:25:45Speaker 4: it out to the public a little bit on that,
- 1:25:46Speaker 4: so the folks that kind of paid the premium and
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: supported us have you know, a little window of exclusivity.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: Nice but uh yeah.
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: Otherwise I'll see the rest of my time to the
- 1:25:57Speaker 4: gentleman from Tennessee and say, back, Polar Destroyer, do it nice?
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: Good, it's me he's talking about me. Also, I mean
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: I would be remiss to say Ben is actually the
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: editor of the book and the letter. Oh hell yes,
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: good little collaboration that I love it, and the exploration.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: I saw you had a new episode out, Ben, Yeah,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: I think we did.
- 1:26:17Speaker 4: We do that from time to time, we get around
- 1:26:21Speaker 4: to it. I think I do this more than I
- 1:26:22Speaker 4: do that.
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: But you know, and we are grateful for your time.
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: It's a joy. Yeah. Links to all of the above
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: in the show notes. Do you support our players work.

- 1:27:16Speaker 1: Give me carry on? Carry on, Okay, let's get to
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: the final scores. That's the next part. That's yeah, Yeah, Ben,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: you might have worked it out. You had a big lead.
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: You had a big they had a big lead. You
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: had a big deficit, that's the word. But you caught
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: up a bit. You finished on twenty points, But top
- 1:27:38Speaker 1: top fun are our winners with twenty four points. Close
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: that gay, Sorry, Ben, I believe me. I'm used to it.

- 1:28:29Speaker 1: Except your name is Hans, not Alexander, so you've conquered nothing. Goodbye.
