- KENT: Why British liz British Liz: Why, if it isn't my old pal Kent. Hello. KENT: I'm the only kent, you know. British Liz: Yeah, the only Kent I know. KENT: The only Kent I mean there's not very many of us, so yeah. British Liz: Well, I dunno, there's Clark Kent. KENT: Well, yeah, and we'll get into that in the episode. just because we got s British Liz: Yes, we have stories. KENT: we got stories. I got lots of stories. Do you got lots of stories? British Liz: Yeah. Yeah, I think so. KENT: Good. Okay. So you know, we always start our show with our drink of choice. You know, I need to get a different mug. I I mean the last couple of shows I've had that the British Liz: Yeah, it's it's a boring mug. KENT: red Yeti and stuff like that. I need like to get out some s the blue British Liz: And I have my boring mug today, no logo. KENT: ones. So hey look, red and red and blue. We're we're the cops. Woo woo woo. Huh. British Liz: Or or patriotic. There we how about that? KENT: How do you patriotic? British Liz: Yeah, patriotic, yeah. Like I said. Hey, KENT: Patriarch. British Liz: we're coming we're in the summer, we're coming up to the fourth. KENT: We are. We're what well actually yeah, we're like two weeks away from the fourth. You know. Are you gonna do the whole red, white, and blue thing? my gosh, everybody's got Captain America. British Liz: And look, I have I have my my Captain America right there. Yeah, but you know, it's very appropriate for this, the two hundred and fiftieth birthday. Orange. KENT: I have my Denver Broncos. They're blue, white and orange. my goodness. British Liz: Anyway, what are you drinking, Kent? KENT: Of coffee, of course. and actually, I got so I bought this bean. It I actually went with a my a mild versus a dark, which I never do, but it smelled so good in the bag. I had to get it. It was fainting goat, it's coffee chain here, it's a coffee chain. British Liz: So you sure it's not sure it's not goat droppings? KENT: No, not goat drop in. It's called the Fainting Goat. I wish I would have kept the bag just to show you. It was a Star Wars themed bag. Yeah, it was really cool. I think I took a picture of it. but yeah, i I mean the mild is very strong and the flavor on it is really good. So I was like, well, why not, you know? British Liz: How did you find it, try it, whatever? KENT: just walk into the store. Actually, here if you can see my phone, this was the bag. I don't know if it's coming in clear or not, but may the goat be with you. Look at British Liz: I love it. Yep it yeah, perfect. I love it. KENT: the Star Wars symbols on it and everything like that. It's got the British Liz: That's brilliant. KENT: you know, X fighters and all lightsabers on it and everything like that. But yeah, it was British Liz: that is so inspired. KENT: I was like, all right, first of all, it's Star Wars, so I'm gonna have to try it. and then on the back of the bag they have like the story, like the new hope, the new roast. So I was like, all right, I'm gonna buy it. British Liz: It is so clever. KENT: Yeah, yeah. There you find little things like that. I wish it would have been a dark blend, but it's okay. It tastes good. It smelled. You know what? British Liz: But it tastes good. KENT: When you walk by a good coffee and you can smell it in the bag, it's gonna be a good it's gonna be a good bean. So how about you? Are you just drinking your generic P G tips? British Liz: It's not generic because PG is a brand. And it is KENT: It's a British generic brand. British Liz: It's a British, not generic tea. It's it's kind of if KENT: Okay. If you say so. British Liz: it's kind of the the average household tea. You know, twinings KENT: Okay. British Liz: is you know, here it's all fancy, but there it's just tea. I I hesitate to say it's the equivalent of Lipton, just kind of the tea you got in the cupboard, because it's so much better than Lipton, but it's just tea. No no KENT: So if the fans are s British Liz: no different Blend, no, it's just tea. KENT: It's just it's just tea. Basic generic tea. British Liz: And it's fantastic. KENT: Kind of like Liz. Let's get it. Man, you're you know what? You're just so it's British Liz: Get lost. Anyway, well it's funny 'cause you're all KENT: you're so easy to just harass. Like it's fun. I mean, I I you know what? If we have more than one fan, they're gonna probably gang up against me and be like, leave her alone. Yes. British Liz: Please do this for me. Just say. KENT: my gosh. I I'm sitting here fanning myself if you're watching the video. And it's just because I just got done. I I walked like a mile and a half and did a workout and stuff like that. And then I was like, shoot, I gotta get on here to meet with Liz so we can do our daily weekly talk and stuff like that. And took a shower and cleaned up. And you know, right after a shower of a workout, you're still hot and sweaty. You're not cooled off and stuff. So I'm sitting here fanning myself. And of course, I've got one of those protectors and stuff like that. British Liz: yeah. KENT: And I'm like, I have a autograph of Clint Eastwood. I'm fanning myself with Clint East. British Liz: I'm sorry, you're fanning you're fanning yourself with Clint Isrid. KENT: I was like, I just needed something strong enough to well, I mean I could do all right, we'll go a patriotic, we'll go with a little British Liz: I I can't see. Hang on. KENT: Chris Evans. Captain British Liz: How did you get that? KENT: America like ooh. I I have my British Liz: How is this in your hand? KENT: I have my hey, I have a Nicolas Cage. British Liz: Well, that's from what, two weeks ago? KENT: That's right. And but I got I I British Liz: Which is pretty impressive. I've never seen him. KENT: I didn't get the what's the Spider Noir one? I didn't get the I was trying British Liz: Is that new? KENT: I was trying for the National Treasure or The Rock, but didn't get that one. I got badass. Or kick ass. Worry where's the Batman? Worry where's the Batman? Yeah. I got that one signed, so. British Liz: well he was great in there. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, that was that was a funny movie. So bizarre. KENT: Mm. British Liz: Not not my style at all, but very fun. KENT: What is your style, Liz? Like you don't even watch horror. I mean I don't, but do you have a style? Don't tell me it's like romance. Yeah. K drama. British Liz: I well, you know K dramas, love my K dramas. KENT: All right. British Liz: And some K pop. KENT: All right. British Liz: I do like romantic mushy stuff. Not bodice ripping, KENT: Romantic British Liz: just mushy. KENT: Like the notebook. British Liz: Yeah, yeah. I mean not massive on that one. You know, give me some pride and prejudice, baby. But also Lord of the Rings, it's kind of got a romance in it. It has KENT: That's not a romance wha where? British Liz: a kind of KENT: Frodo? Romance bromance? That's a bromance, not a romance. British Liz: No, no, Fred no No, but you know Arwen and Aragorn, Baron and Luthian, you know, true love KENT: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. yeah. Yeah. British Liz: to love. KENT: Smeagle in his ring. British Liz: Hey. That was kind of unrequited, but you know. KENT: Yeah. Whoa. British Liz: Yeah, so we had adventures this weekend, did we not? KENT: I think we both did. I mean, that's why I was like that's why we meet every week. Whether we have an adventure or not, we like to talk and just catch up and see what you're doing, what you're not doing. you know, and hopefully our listeners liked what we talk about. But yeah, this weekend we are both at shows. British Liz: Different shows. KENT: I know. Like one was themed and one well yours was kind of themed too. Mine was themed. British Liz: It was. Well you you go first. KENT: my goodness, where do I start? I wish I had I wish I had theme music, British Liz: Start with with hang on, I don't know. KENT: you know, that would've been cool, you know. We could have propped this up with theme music. British Liz: That would have. You know, I don't think I don't think I have any Superman stuff here. KENT: You don't. British Liz: I know it I do have one thing, but it's kinda KENT: Okay. British Liz: hidden. Where is it? I have a I have a big old thing of kryptonite. I think it might be a lamp or something that I got from Tom Welling, but it's hidden. I don't KENT: Really? British Liz: know where it went. Yeah. are you gonna play? KENT: yeah. I mean, doesn't that just make you fi feel patriotic? British Liz: Yeah. The red, white and blue. KENT: Yeah, I wow. I was in Metropolis this weekend for a Superman celebration. British Liz: Metropolis, Illinois? KENT: Metropolis, Illinois, right there on the border of Kentucky. British Liz: And it is a teeny tiny town, is it not? KENT: I almost blinked and missed it. British Liz: What one weekend a year, it is huge, right? KENT: It's it's always the second weekend in June that they do it. it's a tradition. They've been doing it for forty-eight years. Forty-eight years they've been doing this. Which is crazy. I mean, think about it. Next year will be 49 and then 50. I want to go for the 50. That would be awesome. British Liz: That actually sounds like a very fun thing to do. And I'm sure they KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: will get crazy numbers of actors. But I mean w so KENT: You never know. I mean, some of the actors a lot of the actors have shown up to be part of that celebration. British Liz: So so what is it to those that are not familiar? KENT: It's everything Superman. Like literally everything Superman. one of the largest Superman museums is in Metropolis. It's the only metropolis in the United States. So they figured since they have something you know, like I live in Tennessee and there's a Franklin here, there's a Franklin and you know, there's Franklins everywhere. Yeah. British Liz: yeah, everywhere. Yeah. KENT: But there's no metropolis except in Illinois. So they've got the niche. So it's all British Liz: So KENT: Superman. British Liz: so who comes? How many attendees? That kind of thing. KENT: my gosh. There was there was I I couldn't tell you the number of attendees, twenty, thirty thousand. yeah. British Liz: Where did they all stay? KENT: there's that's a good question. I mean it is I mean there's a Harris Casino there, so they have a hotel and whatnot. A lot of people stayed there. they actually bring in a cosplayer as Superman. I forget his name, but he's from Texas. He's been doing it for the last five years, and looks Like Superman. Like. Yep. British Liz: The square jaw and the KENT: Yep. Yep. Like they he's won contests several years in a row. They he lives down in Texas. They bring him up to be part of this. He's been doing it. I took a picture with him. No joke. And I sent it to my friend April. Sorry, April, if I mention you on the podcast, but And she wa okay, yeah, yeah. British Liz: You know, April's cool, she can handle it. KENT: So she saw him and she's like, Well, there's a lot of padding in that costume. And I was like, Nope, that's all real. And she's like, No, seriously. And I was like, Yes, it but he's a bodybuilder. he I mean, let me see if I can show you a close up. let me get unfussied a little bit. Hold on. British Liz: yeah, I it's almost in focus. and there's the statue behind. my goodness. Yes, that's perfect. KENT: Let me get that. Yeah, that's all. Yeah. British Liz: my goodness. KENT: Yeah, the British Liz: Wow. KENT: the dude has muscle. He's a bodybuilder, looks like Superman. April says she wants to see him out of costume. there you go, April. British Liz: I bet she does. sorry, April. KENT: We got you. but no, I I was like, Wow, okay. Huh. Nice guy too. really nice guy. But yeah, it was it was fun. A lot of Superman. I was there with Neva Howell, who is Ma Kent in the new Superman. Yep. British Liz: okay. KENT: Yep. And she dropped a bomb on everybody of news. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: yep. during her panel, she brought out Ma of Tomorrow instead of what's the new title? Man of Tomorrow. which is British Liz: She said he said, Ma? KENT: Ma of Tomorrow, but she brought that up because she announced that she's gonna be in the next Superman. Yeah, so I was like British Liz: that's brilliant. KENT: super excited about that and I was like, all right, that's cool. She's excited about it because you know, she says basically it's gonna change well I wouldn't say change. She just said the impact that she has on it will make you look differently. So I'm like, man, drop a hint, but don't give too much. And now I'm like, well, I gotta wait till next July to find out. British Liz: So did they did they have superm other supermen actors there? KENT: they did. Tim Daly, who does the voice in Superman the old animated series. he was my gosh, what was his character? Was he? British Liz: He was Superman. Yeah. KENT: Okay. British Liz: Yeah, I know because I sat with him once and there were lots of Superman pictures. KENT: Yeah, he did have a lot of Superman pictures. somebody was s the cyborg, I can't remember, but and then they had Alex Garthon from Lois and Cl Superman and Lois, the new the T V show. British Liz: is that the one with Tyler Hooklin? Yes. KENT: Yes. Yes, where he's Superman and he's got two sons. Alex is the one that has the against the powers. no spoilers. But British Liz: Mm. KENT: yeah, it w and Kitty Holtz was there as well. she was in the arrow universe. but British Liz: okay. KENT: she had some stuff in Superman, so yeah, it was there was only four actors, but it it was enough for that event and they had a lot of comic book artists and stuff that were there as well. So well run event. It was super fun, no pun intended. British Liz: I think, yes, especially, you know, with the comic book artists. I mean Superman is like isn't that the first of the huge I mean, he goes back how long? Twenties, thirties, thirties? KENT: yeah. easily. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. British Liz: I mean, it's the original. So that's wonderful and that it's been going for almost fifty years. Amazing. KENT: Yep. Yep. I'm gonna have to remember not to work out before this podcast. I'm just melting. Now I know what it feels like to British Liz: Yeah, I ca I mean I can smell you from here. KENT: have hot flashes. No? Okay. British Liz: No, you don't. KENT: I f and then of course I'm drinking coffee, so that doesn't help that. my gosh. British Liz: yeah, yeah. KENT: So okay. Superman's Metropolis. is this Neva How su my gosh, that lady portrays Ma Kent. Like She just everybody comes to the booth, welcomes them in, gives them a hug, just everything is like she always looks in the best of everybody and just is just a mock Kent through and through. Like, you know. Just an amazing lady, just British Liz: that's wonderful. KENT: you know, While we were there, she had some extra little comics that she handed out to the kids and signed for them just as a gift to help them read and learn to read and they were little Superman comics. It was awesome. Yeah, and then you British Liz: how kind. KENT: know, she's you know, the the cool thing is is there were a couple of podcasters there that have been her number one supporters since day one. And they showed up and you know it to her it you know it was like seeing her sons. You know, she just welcomed with open arms and was excited to see them and their families and stuff. British Liz: they're so lovely. KENT: Yeah. So you know and then she's you know she's up there in age but She loves to do podcasts. She loves. I mean, I had I think I'm Supermanned out. I mean, my name's Kent. So I grew up with Superman and everything Superman British Liz: Uh-huh. KENT: and and stuff like that. But I think after that event, I have my my cup is full. I'll just put it that way. I am full of Superman. British Liz: Super Superman is yeah. KENT: I'm good for at least the rest of the year. British Liz: Excellent. KENT: Yeah, yeah. So that was me. How about you? You you flew somewhere, did something exciting. I I wanna hear about this because I've heard about British Liz: Yes, I I went to s yes, I KENT: sorry, the event you went to, I hear about I've heard about for the last four or five years. Doug, who runs it, is always trying is attempting to get me to go and hey, come be part of this and stuff. And every time I get stuck further away or put somewhere else. and I think One of my cohorts, Maggie, was there. and so British Liz: Yes, she was, yeah. KENT: she got to enjoy it. But tell us what what was it? Yeah, tell us. British Liz: But what? What? Well, I went to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to this amazing Comic Con called KENT: Okay. Did you blink going through it? British Liz: No, it's big. I mean, it's a good KENT: Okay. All right. Sue volunteer. British Liz: sized town. You can drive 20 minutes and not leave town. I was quite impressed. KENT: Hmm. Well that's impressive. British Liz: It's called the six five Pop Culture Con KENT: Okay. British Liz: and it is a benefit by a company called Company. foundation called Voices Against Cancer. And basically the whole con tickets, autograph sales, photograph sales, everything gets donated towards pediatric cancer research and towards local families in the community that have kids that have suffered from cancer. So you get all these people come in, every the everyone's KENT: It's awesome. Yeah. British Liz: volunteer. you go in The the actors come, they sign their autographs, they let's see the they they call them the honor families, that's local families who have children that live with the disease or have died from the disease. The families are honor families and they get A1 treatment. They are front of line multiple times. private a private event with the celebrities where they just kind of hang out KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: and you know it KENT: Kinda like their make a wish. British Liz: you know it kind of is KENT: But different. British Liz: yeah yeah I mean it's not related to make a wish at all but KENT: Yeah, yeah. British Liz: it's such an incredible thing to see the relationships that have built up between these entertainers And these little kids. pictures of one of the guests this year was from Game of Thrones. Actually, they had KENT: Mm. British Liz: I think four guests from Game of Thrones, and two of them were the Clagane brothers, KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: who are six five and six nine and giant guys. I mean, just yeah, more or less. The mountain KENT: So the twin towers. Yeah. British Liz: and the hound. And I saw this picture. this morning of the mountain, who is this giant Icelandic bodybuilder, weightlifter KENT: Mm-hmm. He's been in some other movies. Yeah. British Liz: called Hathnor Bjonson. And he's holding these two little kids in their yellow t shirts. KENT: Mm. British Liz: And I mean, like they're a pair of ice creams. I mean, you know, he's you can tell he's not even flexing, KENT: Pair of ice creams. British Liz: but he's he's I mean, he was lovely. So they had, let's see, they had Alan Tudek from Firefly and a million cartoons. KENT: Nice. Mm-hmm. British Liz: they had, let's see, Christopher Lambert, who was in Highlander. KENT: Mm. British Liz: I've got my little list here. Ralph Inerson, who voiced Galactus in the newest Fantastic Four movie. And man, that guy's voice is deep. I mean, I don't know if you saw the movie. KENT: Is it? Is it super deep? British Liz: I mean, yeah, that sounds like him on a on a you know, on helium. KENT: okay. British Liz: He's just his natural speaking voice is through the floor. And then he did like vocal exercises to make it even deeper. It's KENT: Wow. British Liz: it's it's nuts. people from Baldur's Gate and from Star Wars had Sam Whitwer, who's the voice of Darthmore, KENT: Hm, Sam, yeah. Yeah. British Liz: and Denise Gough, and Anna Camp, who's from Pitch Perfect, KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: Roger Jackson from Scream, and Anna was also in Scream. Tons. And they all just came and gave out the kindness of their hearts. And and I know that KENT: There's some Superman people there too. British Liz: Hang on. yeah. Yep, she was there. KENT: Michaela Hoover. Who's also the voice she's also in One Piece, the live action. She's the British Liz: Yes, I that was what I knew her from. KENT: voice of Chopper. British Liz: But okay. but it was just lovely to see all the interactions KENT: Hmm. British Liz: and and stories of you know, these kids and what the families have been through and so it's it's heart wrenching but also heartwarming. KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: and I I know that A lot of the actors actually gave out personal information to these families so that if they needed encouragement, if they needed just someone to talk to, they could talk to the KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: actors. I mean, this is me tearing up a bit. It's just beautiful. It's just KENT: That's awesome. British Liz: beautiful. And it's my absolutely must do every year. It's a a volunteer gig. I don't get anything. KENT: What did you do? British Liz: I worked in the green room for that one. So so you know, busing tables and just keeping things nice and making sure people know there's food and stuff like that. KENT: Mm. So you get to hear all the stories. British Liz: Actually, I didn't r really I mean sometimes you do, sometimes you might get into a conversation. But this time I think the KENT: Well Yeah. British Liz: only private thing I heard was that Alan Tudick once got a bad haircut. I think KENT: Cool, there you go. British Liz: that was the only thing I heard that was not sensitive information. No, I mean I didn't hear anything, but I KENT: Yeah. British Liz: did overhear him start a story about KENT: Mm. British Liz: a ha bad haircut. But it was yeah, it was it was just lovely. And the people that run it, KENT: That's good. British Liz: doc Dr. Lou George and his wife Gina, KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: amazing people. the volunteers, as you said, Doug, he runs the celebrity floor. It actually ran beautifully smoothly this year. I mean, you always hope that it will, but it was probably about the smoothest I've ever seen a floor run anywhere. It was it was just great. And panels, KENT: That's awesome. British Liz: lots of panels talking about Star Wars and Game of Thrones and all of that. Great stuff. So very KENT: That's awesome. British Liz: much enjoyed it. Love the people. Love going to it. Yeah. KENT: How much tissue was used during the weekend? British Liz: they should they should have a bloomin donation from Kleenix, 'cause I know KENT: Yeah. British Liz: that they use up a lot, I'm sure. KENT: I bet. I mean it there was probably a box British Liz: And we've got KENT: of Kleenex or tissue every table just because of you British Liz: I'm sure. I'm sure. KENT: know just the happiness for some people and just hearing the stories and what the some of the children have overcome and where they are today and just you know it it's gut wrenching. I I I know from personal when I was with the 501st still am, but they had me dress up in stormtrooper costume and then during San Diego Comic-Con we went to children's hospital. and just watching the kids jump up and down, knowing that they have this illness or they have life threatening things and You know, for you to walk in in just a costume and they just light up and you're the stormtrooper or your Darth Vader or your Palpatine or whatever British Liz: Well, yeah, and KENT: it is, you know. British Liz: and yesterday morning I know as a as a punctuation mark to the con, two Mandalorian actors, Emily Swallow, who plays The Armorer, and Brendan KENT: Mm. Mm-hmm. British Liz: Wayne, who plays he's one of the guys in the Mando suit. KENT: Mm. British Liz: they went to the children's hospital and made a round of visits yesterday morning. And it's just lovely. KENT: That's awesome. British Liz: So so if any of you guys can make it to South Dakota in June of next year, just it's unbelievable. It's such a beautiful atmosphere and KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: hey, you get to see me and a bunch of people that travel. There's one of the KENT: Yeah, there's a lot of people that travel from all over the place. Not I mean, just not only the actors, but British Liz: Yeah, I mean I know there's one for crew. KENT: yeah, the crew. British Liz: Yeah. So there was crew from Florida. there was the Colorado posse, as we were known. I'm no longer part of that, but there were two cars that drove from Colorado. KENT: They banished you. British Liz: Sorry? KENT: They banished you. British Liz: Yeah, they probably did actually. KENT: No, he he just moved further north to to Saint Louis. Yeah. British Liz: Yeah. But anyway, if any of you guys can make it to South Dakota, it's called the six five Pop Culture Con. They are always looking for volunteers. Now KENT: Mm. British Liz: volunteer, also pay your own way, also pay your own hotel. Yeah. KENT: Yeah, this is a true volunteer where you don't you're not getting paid for anything. You are literally volunteering a hundred percent of your time, energy. you know, it's on your own dime to either fly up there, drive up there, hotel, everything. Like there is no money made on this one. And it's just because everything, all the proceeds, everything goes to the families and the children. And I mean British Liz: And towards research, I mean it is such KENT: Yeah. British Liz: a good cause. KENT: I love it because the actors give up, you know, the I mean they make money signing autographs. and they give that up to give to the charity and the foundation and stuff, which helps other families and children along the years and stuff like that. So just to see the heartfelt love from the actors. the people that volunteer as crew and and everybody and you know I mean yeah there are people crying because of good stuff but just the smiles and laughs and warmth that that event brings will light you up for a whole year. Yeah. You're even getting teary British Liz: it will. So they do do other events throughout the KENT: right now just talking about it. See I tell ya British Liz: Maybe, maybe a bit. So if you wanna if you wanna hear more about them, their website is voices against cancer.org. And look up, they see KENT: Hmm. Can you say that one more time? British Liz: voices against cancer dot org. That's O R G. O R G. KENT: Dot org. Okay. Yep. Yep. Yeah. British Liz: And they do events throughout the year. this is the flagship event though. This KENT: Yeah. British Liz: makes the most for them. But yeah, volunteer, give, attend. It's it's so worth it. KENT: Yeah, that's awesome. One of these times I'm gonna get up there. One of the Yeah. that British Liz: please do. Please do and then I can abuse you in person. KENT: There you go. Yeah. Well you'll be in the green room, so there's no abuse there. Just well, maybe unless you like drop my food on the floor and then give it to me or something like that. British Liz: Well, a bit. Not much. KENT: my goodness. Whew. Wow. British Liz: Are you still too warm? KENT: I I'm I'm finally getting to the right temperature, you know. Whew. It takes a while to just cool off. You know, and we of course, you know, being out here what, Mideast? Mid East? Is it is that it mid I y I'm so used to saying midwest, now it's mid east 'cause now Tennessee, you know, it's it British Liz: I don't know. I don't know, Tennessee, that feels kind of east. South. I think it's south. KENT: southeast, whatever. It's just it's warm. It's like eighty seven and humidity and I mean, I went for a good hour well, one point five mile walk in the heat. Who does that? Who does that? I was like, I need to get out of the house. British Liz: Noon. Was that wise? I know. KENT: Didn't say I was smart, but it's all good. So Metropolis 605 Great events going on. I know for myself, next this coming week, I'm already headed off to West Palm Beach for an anime. Otaku. British Liz: Wow. KENT: O O T-U-K. I don't even know if it's spelled right. I'm not gonna even mess it up. British Liz: Ha ha. KENT: It's anime fest that I'm gonna be doing. in West Palm Beach. I've never been to West Palm Beach. This will be my first. British Liz: Is it is that Miami or close to? KENT: no, it's well, West Palm Beach. It's yeah, it's near Miami. It's south of Orlando. But yeah. British Liz: okay. KENT: It's a talk a Taku Fest. O-T-A-K-U-F-E-S-T. British Liz: heard of that one. KENT: Yeah. Yeah, it's anime, which you know I know nothing about, so this will be fun for me. British Liz: That's where Google visual search helps. KENT: It it does, it does, yeah. See I I I British Liz: 'Cause every everybody has spiky green hair and huge eyes. It's like they all look KENT: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So West Palm Beach is actually closer to Fort Lauderdale than Miami. 'Cause Fort Lauderdale and Boca Raton are between Miami and West Palm Beach. So it's it's down there. It's down there along the coast, so British Liz: that's gonna be toasty and humid. KENT: Yep, yep, yep. I fly out Thursday and come back Monday than to fly to Washington DC. British Liz: What's that? KENT: our expo. So Yeah, yes. I'll be doing British Liz: an amazing art expo? Okay. KENT: that. That'll be fun. So where are you? Are you off to anywhere this weekend? What? Okay. So gardening. British Liz: Actually no, I have a couple of weeks free. gonna be here for the fourth. Sorry? KENT: So you get to do a little gardening. Catch up on yard work. British Liz: If it if it's cool enough. yeah, so I I'll be here for the fourth and I think I have something the following weekend, KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: a horror fest, which is interesting because I don't know anything about horror. KENT: don't you love those ones that you know nothing about and then you're like, you know, Freddie Krueger British Liz: Yeah. you look at the KENT: could walk past me and I'd be like, What's up? British Liz: Well you know what you know what's funny though? I feel KENT: We know all. British Liz: like would you say that horror fandoms possibly get more cosplay than other fandoms? Like, I mean, even if it's well, just, you know, blood is easy to fake, you know. No, KENT: Why, 'cause they wear masks and sheets and stuff like that or blood? Yeah, British Liz: I was just thinking about you know, is i the horror theme, like a guy walking by KENT: That's a good question. That British Liz: with a knife in his head. I mean, KENT: Yeah. British Liz: I don't know what fandom that would be, but it feels like you get a lot of those kinds of costumes, would you say? KENT: Okay, well, you know, that's a good question to ask our listeners. Are you a horror fan? And then if you are, do you dress up when you go to these horror cons or horror fests? Like, is that something you do, or do you feel that there's more cosplay done at horror cons than at a regular comic con? What do you think? You know? And this is for the listener, and there are no right or wrong answers. We d I just want to know because it it would be interesting to hear what people say. Yeah, I go to horror cons. No, I don't dress up. Yes, I go to horror cons. Yes, I dress up. What do you dress up as? What's your go to? yeah, because I mean, we got one that's coming down the road in September. I do, Dragon Con. And I know that one is all kinds of costumes. And it's the I British Liz: Yes. KENT: think it's the biggest cosplay event. I wouldn't even say Comic Con. It's the biggest cosplay event of the year because people work 365 days. I mean, literally 365 days. Not 64, 65. They are working the day of the event sewing. Patching, working on their costume to show British Liz: Sewing and super gluing. Mm-hmm. KENT: it off at Dragon Con. Like, literally, I have friends that they pack their sewing machine in their car so that when they get to the hotel, they can finish sewing. And I'm like, what have you been doing all year? And they're like, working on my costume. The final touch is day 365. It's like, holy cow. I mean, and some of these British Liz: Yes, well KENT: costumes are very meticulous. British Liz: Yes, well for working on it for three hundred days I it would have to be. Yeah, KENT: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. British Liz: that's that's incredible. And I you know, I've only been to Dragon once and the costumes are amazing and I I took so many pictures of KENT: Everywhere. yeah. British Liz: and it was everything. It was princesses to you know, horror to anime and transformers. KENT: And then of course all the women love the Spartans. The three hundred. British Liz: Do they? KENT: yeah. British Liz: Not this woman. I don't know what that is. KENT: okay. You like Mar Yeah, we are three hundred, the the Spartans, the gladiators, you know, the ones with the shields British Liz: Yeah. KENT: and the six pack ribs and you okay. British Liz: Yeah. KENT: You maybe you need to go back and watch three hundred with Gerard Butler. I just British Liz: I've never three hands. KENT: watched that the other day. You've never seen it? All right, listeners, should we shame Liz for not watching the three hundred? I that is an iconic classic. if you think Liz we should shame Liz. that is like that would be like not watching the Matrix. Liz, you're killing me. You're killing me. No, you need to put your husband's a movie buff. Like, you need to put 300 on your list of movies. Put it on your list list. British Liz: Okay. KENT: And in one of these episodes, okay, write it down. Th the three hundred three hundred. There's two po there's two movies. First one was the best one. But British Liz: See, look, three hundred. KENT: That says three one. British Liz: I can't count. KENT: Okay. Wow. We should man, there's shame, shame, shame, shame. That would be like you telling British Liz: Yeah, whatever. KENT: me to watch the notebook. British Liz: I've never said those words. KENT: You know, or like, you know, the hobbits or Lord of the Ring. I gotta be like, what is that? Like, no, those are classics, those are cult classics. I've seen them all. British Liz: Okay, folks, we need to shame Kent over the Lord of the Rings ignorance. KENT: I've seen them all. I've watched them all. I I hang out British Liz: Ha ha ha. KENT: with the actors. Like, I know them. I took the time to watch those. Just like you should take the time to watch 300, right, audience? British Liz: I ain't ever gonna be Gerard. KENT: Gerard Butler. British Liz: Yeah. I don't mind if you're gonna meet him. KENT: There are some of the actors from 300 that actually come to the Comic Cons. hey. Uh-huh. British Liz: Hey okay, ADD moment. We you know, we we love our Comic Con actors. KENT: Yes. British Liz: So many different actors come out. KENT: Yes. British Liz: But there have been actors that are starting to appear that we've never seen KENT: I know. British Liz: before. Nicholas Cage. KENT: Nick Cage, yep. He just showed up at his first one in where was it? no, I wasn't there. I was not there. It was British Liz: Well you were at there. Yeah. So you weren't? KENT: that was in Minneapolis, Minnesota? British Liz: remember but it was just a couple of weeks ago and then and then you know Ron Howard has appeared at a couple and KENT: Yeah. Indy. Indy. Yeah. Kurt Russell. Yep. Kurt Russell's doing his first one in Chicago. British Liz: yes yes I mean it's KENT: Yeah. British Liz: a three hundred dollar autograph which I will have to justify in my head and my wallet. I just heard that for the for Fan X in Salt Lake this summer, Jane Seymour is coming. I'm like, Jane Seymour? I mean, I would never have imagined in a million years that she would want to do a comic. But well, you know, it's like some people are KENT: I did I did an event at Dragon Con with James Gunn. British Liz: He doesn't? I know his brother does. KENT: Well, yeah, Sean does, but no, James did an event. He it was his first time, it's been basically the only time he's done it, and all the money he made went to a charity. but James James did Dragon Con several years back. British Liz: Well KENT: Yeah. I could say that because I was there hanging with him. British Liz: I just I feel like more you know, people are making appearances that you would never expect or or just haven't ever done it before and you're surprised to see the name. I mean Kurt Russell. KENT: Well, my surprise, all right. Well, my big surprise is is and it's out there. You can see it on TikTok or Instagram or whatever, where Kurt Russell is approached by, I don't know, autograph hounder or a fan or whatever, and he's like, Hey, will you sign this? And Kurt Russell literally puts his hand out and he goes, I'm retired. I don't do that no more. I I've worked hard enough in the industry. I don't have to do that anymore. And you know, he's like, come on, just autograph this. And Kurt Russell is like, No, no, no. I I'm retired. I'm retired. And I was like, good for him. You know, he's worked since he was a child actor, British Liz: yeah. KENT: done all kinds of stuff, especially Disney. Met his wife, everything in a movie. but I was like, you know, good on Kurt Russell for saying, you know what, I'm done. I'm retired. I'm not doing this anymore. And then you know, first appearance at a Comic-Con. So it's like, British Liz: Yes. KENT: and and and we all know that he doesn't need the money. You know, his agent does. British Liz: Yes. KENT: And no, no, that then that's their job is to get appearances. I mean that's how they they make their money and stuff like that. But you know, I I would love to see some of these bigger name actors do the Comic Cons, but then just donate the money to a charity. You know, like if they had the Rock come to a Comic Con, he would probably donate it to his charity, the Rock Foundation and stuff like that, because he British Liz: Yeah. Actually I think Michael J. Fox all the proceeds go towards his Parkinson's charity. KENT: I would I would probably guess that. I'm not saying I know or don't know, but I'm just saying Michael J is constantly working for his charity. So yeah. Yeah. British Liz: Yes. Yeah, I I'm pretty sure I had heard that. yeah, so I I think the only KENT: Who would you like to see out of Comic Con that hasn't done one yet? British Liz: Mm. KENT: Gerard Butler. British Liz: Sure. well KENT: okay. Tom Hiddleston just did one. British Liz: yeah, and he did make a con a couple of years ago, but few and far between. KENT: Yeah. True. British Liz: and I know the the big Lord of the Rings find would be Ian McKellen or Vigo Mortenson. And they I don't think they do cons, of course. Sir Ian is you know in his eighties and I think well that's what I mean, that's down the road for him, KENT: He's up there in age, yeah. Well he just did one in London. British Liz: but flying all the way here and and being KENT: Yeah, yeah. British Liz: inundated with tens of thousands of fans, I mean it might be might be difficult for KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: somebody that that's KENT: Of age. British Liz: of a Of a ripe old age. Mind you, John Reese Davis does it all the time, so I'm KENT: He does. I mean, William Shatner's ninety five and he does it. So I mean Cheech and Chung, eighty two and eighty eight. I mean it's it is what it is. British Liz: Yeah. But I mean Yeah. It's doable. KENT: It's doable. you know, the con comic cons do work with them and help them out and you know, they're not there pushing They accommodate British Liz: But it's but it it's gotta be hard also, I would say, for the fans. You know, here am I saying, Wow, Kurt Russell, that would be amazing. KENT: How long is that line gonna be? British Liz: How long is that line? 300 bucks, even just just probably for your a signature, no inscription, no quote, no anything. So KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: I think that's kind of hard for fans to take. They really want to meet him, but it's really expensive, and you will spend the whole day just standing in line. So, you know, is is it KENT: yeah. yeah. That's the part that newbies have to understand. Somebody beg like that, you're You're gonna spend one whole day just standing in line waiting unless you get there super early and run. Yeah. All the VIPs are British Liz: But even then someone you know, you'll have a KENT: gonna get first privilege. Right. You know, that's why you British Liz: Yeah. KENT: get the VIP. Because again, would you rather would you want to stand in line seven, eight hours just to get an autograph? Because he probably doesn't do selfies at the table. It would it would be too much. So, British Liz: Huh yeah, almost certainly not. KENT: Yeah, would you want to stand in line six, seven hours to get his autograph if you didn't have a VIP? Where if you had the VIP, you might only have to wait an hour. British Liz: And well, probably even longer than that, because KENT: Yeah. British Liz: then he has his photo ops and then he has a panel and then he's having lunch. KENT: Mm-hmm. British Liz: He might have to rest. I don't know. But you KENT: Yep. Yep. British Liz: know, you're you're gonna spend a lot of time just waiting in the line not moving at all. And if he's I don't know if he's there more than one day, a lot of the really huge names will be one day. KENT: See, I would get a photo of him in Big Trouble Little China. British Liz: Mm. KENT: That's I mean, to me that's a classic. Like just yeah. British Liz: Yeah. I I'm not sure what I'd get. There's so much stuff that he's been incredible in. tombstone. It'd be tombstone for me. KENT: yeah. yeah. sorry. I have to change that. Yeah. It would have to be tombstone. My my yeah. British Liz: 'Cause I actually I have my my tombstone Val Kilmer autograph. So I'd have to put them KENT: yeah. I have a Batman, Val Kilmler. British Liz: or do you? KENT: I do. And then I also have a selfie with Val Kilmer. I did it up in San Jose and it was just happened to be the right place. The agent was like, hey, come meet Val. and I was like, sure. And then British Liz: Sweet. KENT: they took a a pit a professional photo of us. I wasn't expecting that. And it just happened and I was like, my gosh, thank you, Universe. That was awesome. Yes. Yeah. So British Liz: amazing. KENT: but I did get a I do have a Batman Valkimner. I I d I do want a tombstone and I would love a talk gun. Iceman. British Liz: there's another KENT: Pop gun. British Liz: one. Do you think Tom Cruise would ever do a con? KENT: He might jump up on the tables. British Liz: Hey, that was like thirty years ago or something crazy. KENT: Yeah, that Tom Cruise out of Comic Con. British Liz: I mean there would be KENT: Mm. British Liz: riots. I mean I I mean sometimes you know, a a star would I mean, you KENT: Would there be? I mean British Liz: saw what it was like with Orlando Bloom. Were you there? But it's KENT: Orlando's okay. There wasn't that bad. It wasn't that bad of a scene. I mean, John Cena had bigger crowds, but my god. There are people that don't British Liz: But I mean, you know, people are so, so excited. KENT: like Tom Cruise. British Liz: Really? KENT: Yeah. People, subscribers. If you don't like Tom Cruise, put it in the I'm I wanna prove a fact. There are some people that do not do not like Tom Cruise. But that's all right. I mean true. British Liz: I mean you know, in his personal life, I mean that's one thing, KENT: Yeah. British Liz: but but really his his movies have just been amazing over the years. KENT: Few good men. British Liz: And you hear about him doing his own stunts and just I mean how old is he? Is he sixty? KENT: He he's in his late sixties, I would say, yeah. British Liz: Late? KENT: my goodness. Yes. But yeah, British Liz: Wow. KENT: I mean how old is Tom Cruise? He's sixty Well, no, he's not. He's only sixty three. July British Liz: Really? KENT: 3rd, 1962. he's got a birthday coming up. A couple weeks. Happy birthday, British Liz: Yay! Happy birthday, Tom KENT: Tom. my goodness. But yeah. I don't ever see that happening. There were maybe we should make a list. Maybe we shouldn't make a list. We can make that one of our podcasts. Who would we like to see a big name? At a Comic Con. And then our sub our listeners can say yeah. Yay, listener. yeah, that's fine. We only got one listener. British Liz: Listener. Listener. KENT: Our number one fan and only fan Not only fans, only fan. British Liz: Yeah. Our first and last. KENT: yes. So what we need to come up with a name for our our listener. What what what we call them? British Liz: like like the BTS Army. KENT: Yeah, the a BTS army or, you know, the con British Liz: Did you did you ever hear what Ben KENT: I I I will have to think of that one. British Liz: did you ever hear what Benedict Cumberbatch's fangroup is called? KENT: The Bennies? British Liz: No the cumber bitches Is that the best? I love it. yes, ew. KENT: Okay. Wow. this is a PG show, so come on, Liz. No, I'm just kidding. Family friendly. British Liz: Yes. Okay, we'll think up a a name for our fan. Ooh, there we go. KENT: my gosh. Yeah. The drinkers.
