Latest / Millennial Mustard Seed / S7 275. Its about Time, Part 2 - Lost Time Tyranny & Treasured Moments
Transcript
- 0:23Well, welcome back to another mini episode here on the days of
- 0:26Noah and with the millennial mustard.
- 0:28See what's up ride. How you doing my friend?
- 0:30What's going on, Pete? We're back at it again for
- 0:33another Micro Mini. The micro mini, I love, I love
- 0:37it. It's like, is it a micro mini?
- 0:40Like micro is the adjective and mini is the no, it's an ad.
- 0:45What is that, an adverb? I don't know.
- 0:50I don't remember. Anyway, yeah, we're back here
- 0:54for another mini and we're going to continue on the the time
- 0:57theme, unpacking this concept of time, which man, when you start
- 1:04thinking about all the aspects of it, you could really spend a
- 1:07lot of time talking about time from God's perspective, from the
- 1:13biblical perspective. It's connotations, it's
- 1:18meanings, it's ramifications, the perception of it, how it's
- 1:23different depending on if you're enjoying yourself or not.
- 1:28Let's start with this real quick because my friend Don, who has
- 1:32been on the podcast in the past, sent a couple of ideas.
- 1:37He said when you do another short episode on time, can you
- 1:40explore our time perceptions? Like when we're having fun, it
- 1:46flies. When it's boring or difficult,
- 1:49it seems to drag. So that's the first thing he
- 1:53said. And the second thing is, he's
- 1:55wondering, is time speeding up as we come closer to the return
- 1:59of Christ? Does the Bible talk about time
- 2:02going faster or is it just a perception thing?
- 2:08Well, so let me jump in and say here's a couple idioms and
- 2:11expressions. OK, so in the English language
- 2:14includes obviously a vast number of expressions regarding the
- 2:18word time, like killing time, occupying oneself while waiting
- 2:23behind the times you're old fashioned or outdated, just in
- 2:28the nick of time at the last possible moment, right?
- 2:31Time and time again, repeatedly you talk with somebody who's
- 2:35been in prison, they said, man, I did some time.
- 2:37I was doing time, right. And so these are these perpetual
- 2:40aspects. You know, the concept.
- 2:43We say, for example, that time is past or behind us and we look
- 2:48forward to the future. This could be us, you know,
- 2:53rendering into this this this left, right, kind of reinforced
- 2:57paradigm, this linear perception that we get from school, right,
- 3:01a timeline. Psychologically, our perception
- 3:06of time can feel altered as if time is flying by during
- 3:10enjoyable activities when you're enjoying yourself, or it can
- 3:13slow down during an emergency like time freezes.
- 3:16So I think Pete, you know, before I pass it back to you, I
- 3:19would just say, does our heightened emotion, our energy
- 3:22levels have to do with affecting time, right?
- 3:26Because if you have a surge of emotion, surge of energy, it
- 3:29seems to affect the way that we perceive this perpetual aspect
- 3:34related to time. Yeah, I think perception is the
- 3:38keyword there. So I'm thinking of my own
- 3:41experiences, like if you've ever had one of those days where you
- 3:47just fit so many interesting, enjoyable and diverse things in
- 3:52one day. You, you know, even just like,
- 3:57you know, from 8:00 AM to noon, you do 3-4 different things
- 4:01outside of your normal routine and it feels like you've lived
- 4:05that entire day. And you're like, I can't
- 4:07believe, you know, it's just past noon already.
- 4:10I've got the rest of the day open.
- 4:12So there's this perception of I think our brains kind of connect
- 4:19how much is maybe different than our routine or how much is being
- 4:27stored in our memory, right? Because we don't, we don't
- 4:30remember every aspect of everything we did everyday.
- 4:33Like we, we have that ability, our brains to selectively go.
- 4:38That's not important. That is important.
- 4:40I'm focusing on this. I'm not focusing on that like
- 4:43all the stimuli around, like even where you're sitting, where
- 4:46I'm sitting, all of the, the little noises or the little
- 4:50sights and sounds and, and everything going on, we
- 4:53selectively rule out the ones that don't matter.
- 4:57So I think that it, that perception makes a huge
- 5:01difference. And just thinking of the, the
- 5:05spiritual aspect, I think that's how the enemy can really mess
- 5:09with us too, because we can get caught up in thinking, I've got
- 5:14all this time in front of me, what could I do?
- 5:20What could I do with this day? And that can either make you
- 5:24feel really optimistic and oh, I love having the day wide open
- 5:28and you know, the Sky's the limit for what I could
- 5:31accomplish. The other side is sometimes I
- 5:36feel like the enemy comes in and goes, you're not going to use
- 5:41this day well, you don't really know what you want to do with
- 5:44it. And so the perception of this
- 5:46open amount of time almost feels like a burden, like I better, I
- 5:52better make something useful out of it.
- 5:56I don't know. Any thoughts on that?
- 5:58Yeah, I mean, as you're talking, I keep thinking breaking up the
- 6:02monotony, right. And so when we look at the word
- 6:05monotony, it means to lack of variation and interest.
- 6:09It's tedious, a repetition or a routine.
- 6:12So you're right, you know, when we are stuck in these rhythmic
- 6:16things like working or driving a long distance, something that
- 6:19you're doing continually over and over again.
- 6:21It's a repertoire of events that you get used to.
- 6:25It's like driving autopilot. Those of you out there know what
- 6:29I'm talking about, especially the truck drivers that listen to
- 6:31these shows. You're like, where did the last
- 6:33hour ago and how did I get here? You're almost kind of going to
- 6:36freak you out sometimes. Like my God, I I lost track of
- 6:40time and so can we be stimulated in a negative way that affects
- 6:46time like monotonism, right where we're stuck in these
- 6:50repetitions and this would make a lot of sense Pete to the
- 6:53Kingdom of darkness harness harnessing us to the plow and
- 6:56making us produce when that's not Kingdom right.
- 6:59The Kingdom of God is when we're living completely spiritually
- 7:03and completely here on this earth merging the two together,
- 7:05blending those lines right. So there's there's like a lack
- 7:08of of this time restraint when you're joyous, when you're
- 7:12happy, you recognize coming out of the joy and happiness that it
- 7:17feels like whatever you weren't keeping track of went by too
- 7:20quick. It's such a strange reality to
- 7:23sit in and try to ponder on. But yet when you know that it's
- 7:27a downtrodded or a very heavy repetition like those those of
- 7:33us who have been working, you know, I'm, I'm 37.
- 7:35I've been working since I was 14, and you can get stuck in
- 7:39these rhythms where it's like, Oh my God, can't wait to clock
- 7:42out. Can't wait for this meeting to
- 7:44be over. Can't wait to.
- 7:46And it's like I said in the first part, Pete, we're
- 7:50exchanging lower quality time for higher quality time.
- 7:54But is that really what God is calling us to?
- 7:57And how does God define time? You know, he talks about being a
- 8:01good steward of time. God talks about redeeming the
- 8:05time lost is His business. That's His duty.
- 8:08Let me pass it back to you with thoughts on any of that.
- 8:11Yeah, well, you, you had a few biblical quotes here on kind of
- 8:16the wisdom and stewardship of time and and I think after that
- 8:21we could segue into, you know, the classic section of Scripture
- 8:26on time Ecclesiastes, right? A time for every for every
- 8:30season, for every activity under heaven.
- 8:32We'll get to but but you, but you have here Psalm 90 and 90
- 8:37verse 12. Teach us to number our days,
- 8:40that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
- 8:44And Ephesians 515 to 17. Be very careful then how you
- 8:47live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every
- 8:52opportunity, because the days are evil.
- 8:55Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will
- 8:59is and I'm challenged by that daily as I deal with monotony in
- 9:08life, in work, in even the wide open day and going what am I
- 9:13going to do with it? And somehow feeling a depression
- 9:18when I should have optimism. It's so strange.
- 9:22I don't know. We we were talking recently
- 9:24with, with Basil on the Canary Cry Clubhouse about kind of this
- 9:29spiritual weariness lately and there seems to be that theme
- 9:34going on. But yeah, the stewardship of our
- 9:38time. I'm challenged to pray
- 9:42continually, to throw up that prayer in those moments and go,
- 9:46God, what should I do in the next hour?
- 9:50I either don't know what I want to do.
- 9:52I can't decide. My brain feels a little muddled
- 9:56or the thing that's already planned for me, 'cause I'm
- 9:59clocked in at a job, let's say, isn't all that exciting.
- 10:04How do I have your attitude for what you've given me to do?
- 10:11How do I have an optimistic heart?
- 10:14How do I have a thankful heart of gratitude in those moments
- 10:20where I'm not really all that excited to do what I'm doing or
- 10:24what's coming up? Maybe there's whole not a whole
- 10:27lot to look forward to, you know, that day or even that
- 10:31whole week. So that that really I think can
- 10:35play on our our perception of time.
- 10:39But before we get to the Ecclesiastes section, any
- 10:43thoughts on that? But then I also want to kind of
- 10:46get your thoughts on what what Don suggested here.
- 10:49Is time speeding up as we come closer to the return of Christ
- 10:53as a Bible mention anything about that time going faster?
- 10:57Or is this again a a perception thing?
- 11:00I mean, I'm stuck on the perception and the emotion thing
- 11:03because as I am pondering deeper and deeper, which up literally
- 11:07this is a brand new kind of emotion or I'm developing the
- 11:11words to try to express it, which means I need to sit with
- 11:14it a bit longer. I need some more time with it.
- 11:17But the emotional end of it, if absent from the body is present
- 11:22with the Lord and he's outside of time, right?
- 11:25Time is a restricted realm that we experience, right?
- 11:30Because God knows the beginning from the end.
- 11:31He can come in and out. We we know all that, right?
- 11:34But how we're dealing with it is like, how come when it's a great
- 11:39day, everything's going right? I feel like I'm on cloud 9.
- 11:42Things make sense. There's a, a, a, a, a, a
- 11:45internal peace and joy flowing out of me.
- 11:48Why does that seem like it goes by so quick?
- 11:52Once again, is our emotional engagement is our reality is, is
- 11:57the measure of faith we've been giving actually starting to
- 12:01alter our perception of time because we know that every good
- 12:04and perfect gift comes from the Lord.
- 12:06So if we're tapping in Pete, and we're having a really great time
- 12:08together, you're like ours just flew by, right?
- 12:11So you got to start to think when we're with the Lord, is
- 12:14that why time is not even considered or counted?
- 12:17Because you are literally you, you're completely involved in
- 12:21that moment of joy where nothing else matters.
- 12:24But it seems like these lower quality experiences, the
- 12:28mundane, the monotonous, the hardship and burdened moments of
- 12:34life, that they just seem like they go on forever.
- 12:36So I don't know. I would say to your your buddy
- 12:39Don's question, I personally would would experience a
- 12:43speeding up of time and a slowing down of time based on
- 12:46what I just depicted to you that it that it literally has to do
- 12:50with am I checking my attitude? Am I coming before the Lord?
- 12:53Am I washing my mind like just like you read it says redeeming
- 12:57the time right because of the days are evil.
- 12:58So like count be very careful then how you live not as unwise
- 13:02but as wise making the most of every opportunity.
- 13:05Well, it's tells us right at the end of the verse.
- 13:07How do we make the most of every opportunity to understand what
- 13:10the Lord's will is? So yeah, of course, everything
- 13:16that's pinned against us to distract us, to keep us in these
- 13:19rhythms and ruts is to steal that beauty and the creativity
- 13:25and the optimism that we are to make the most of every time.
- 13:28Maybe that's why we're not sharing scripture with our Co
- 13:30workers. Maybe that's why we're not
- 13:32actually, you know, walking with a pep in our step because we're
- 13:35stuck in this mental rut of oh, I don't clock out till 5:00 PM.
- 13:40And this is the same thing I've been doing over and over again.
- 13:43And so I need need to lower my vibration, lower my mentality,
- 13:48lower my attitude just just to try to endure so I can get
- 13:51freedom when really got like the fact that we have breath alone
- 13:55this very moment is proof of grace is proof that your time,
- 14:00what God's written about you in heavenly scroll is not over yet.
- 14:03So I don't know if I answer your your question, Don, and I don't
- 14:06think it's a question that can be answered from a guy like me,
- 14:09but through my emotion, I hope that it connects and dots for
- 14:13you. The Bible does talk about, you
- 14:15know, time speeding up, but what word is used for time there?
- 14:19Is it the Kronos or the Karyos? I mean, that requires a little
- 14:22bit of deeper preparation investigation on my end.
- 14:24But I think it's a great question, Don, because here I am
- 14:27trying to express that I feel both almost on a weekly basis.
- 14:32So maybe some listeners out there would agree.
- 14:35Yeah, yeah, I, I, I would agree that I, I think it is a
- 14:38perception thing. I don't know that it is actually
- 14:40speeding up like one second is different than it was 100 years
- 14:45ago or 1000 years ago. But I think there is a
- 14:49perception of what is fit into that and how much change is
- 14:53happening. And knowing that the change that
- 14:59is happening right now as we approach 2026 is so much more
- 15:06accelerated than even a couple decades ago.
- 15:09You know, you think of the, the cycle of knowledge, I forget the
- 15:14term, but where, where knowledge becomes outdated, right?
- 15:19Like they used to say, oh, if you went to college and got a
- 15:22four year degree, you know, by the time you got out, you know,
- 15:25X percent of what you learned is outdated.
- 15:30And I'm sure that that's to the point where it's like by the
- 15:34time you you get your 4 year degree, it was outdated, you
- 15:37know, three years ago. Basically, it's like that the
- 15:42knowledge is just doubling so much more quickly these days
- 15:49that, you know, if you're a doctor, you're constantly having
- 15:53to study the latest thing because what you learned in
- 15:57school is outdated. So I think, I think again, it's
- 16:00a a perception thing. So maybe let's leave off right
- 16:06there for this one, Rod. And then on the next episode,
- 16:11let's dive into time from God's perspective, the Ecclesiastes
- 16:18classic verses on time. And then let's talk about the
- 16:22Hebrew mindset about prophecy, cycles and patterns.
- 16:27Sounds great. I'm excited for these
- 16:30miniseries, Pete. I literally go back and re
- 16:33listen to them and it challenges me.
- 16:35It's like, isn't that funny how you can kind of forget, but you
- 16:38know, you get in prayer, you get your notes out, you you start to
- 16:41express these fun little micro minis and then you listen to
- 16:45them a couple of weeks later to be like, I wonder how that
- 16:47sounds on the car speakers and you're like stuck.
- 16:49Wow, this is good. So give us that like that that
- 16:53share and continue to keep me impede in prayer as we join
- 16:58forces for the micro minis till next time.
- 17:14Yeah. Stuck in this pain is a cycle.
- 17:38My life like a rifle. My life is no typo.
- 17:47Secret prayers to the Kinsmen Redeemer all through the night.
- 17:50I have a sword in the spirit, the word ready to fight.
- 17:53Don't forget when in the flesh, deprived and feeling naked.
- 17:57I'm not my best spirit is willing, the flesh is weak.
- 18:00My knees, they keep on shaking. Never since they've beaten me to
- 18:03death. Been eating the stress.
- 18:05I know that Eden's my rest. I won't sugar coat it reflects
- 18:08our people. Fake it, repent and replay it.
- 18:11Speaking truth is never outdated.
- 18:13I'm never sequacious. Please stop complicating
- 18:16happiness. A gift.
- 18:17Just repent. Believe in your heart.
- 18:20Remember the biggest fires. They always start with a spark.
- 18:23Refine me. Remove the trauma loop.
- 18:26Lord, define me. You'll hold the beauty of the
- 18:29ancient up days. Remind me, Baptize me.
- 18:35Stuck in this pain into the cycle reel on my life like a
- 18:39rifle. Wishing my life is no typo.
- 19:07Then please refill. If they appear restless, Lord,
- 19:10make them still. If they appear to you with
- 19:13flaws, examine their heart. Show them your love.
- 19:15Expel the dark. We need you, Jesus, so step in
- 19:19right now. We call in on the one name whose
- 19:22loves are found. The good you represent the
- 19:25healing you can give us. Not the life they have, but the
- 19:28life they want to live. They were stuck up in that
- 19:30trauma loop, so break it, Lord. Set us free from the trauma
- 19:33loop. Refine me.
- 19:37Remove the trauma loop. Lord, define me.
- 19:39You hold the beauty. You're the Ancient of Days.
- 19:44Remind me. Baptize me.
- 19:47Stuck in this pain is a psycho reel on my life, like a rifle.
- 19:53Fishing my life is no typo. Stuck in this pain is a psycho
- 20:02reel on my life like a rifle.
