Transcript
- 0:16Welcome to PCR Sports. Good evening, I'm Dipam and
- 0:20welcome to the PCR Sports Show. Myself and Nigel this evening.
- 0:23A very happy New year to you. Hope you had a wonderful
- 0:25Christmas and a New Year. We've had a break last week,
- 0:28we're back now with great meaning and purpose for the new
- 0:32year and 2026 will hopefully be bigger and better than ever on
- 0:35the sports front locally and regionally and certainly on our
- 0:39show as well. So we've got a great show lined
- 0:41up this evening to kick the new year off.
- 0:43We've got to professional golfer Talia Martin in the studio with
- 0:46us, with her caddy Anna, Mum City Martin, a great team who've
- 0:50been around for a number of years, been on the show a couple
- 0:52of times already. And we'll be getting an update
- 0:55from Talian City about the adventures and the success
- 0:59they've had throughout 2025 because it's been a really good
- 1:02year for them. But as always, let's start the
- 1:04show with the headlines and Nigel has some for this evening.
- 1:07Hello, Nigel, how are you? I'm very well, thank you mate.
- 1:09How are you? Yeah, excellent.
- 1:10Thank you. Good, Okay, your Peterborough
- 1:12Christmas sports headlines round up then and we'll start off with
- 1:16the Posh. Peterborough United enjoyed a
- 1:18strong Christmas run, grinding out results and showing a real
- 1:22resilience on the road. A gritty one nil win at Port
- 1:25Vale kept momentum rolling into the festive week.
- 1:28Harry Leonard's fifth goal in 4 league matches settled the
- 1:31contest late on as Posh moved up to 16th in the table.
- 1:36A Boxing Day victory followed over Leyton Orient, sealed by
- 1:39dramatic 94th minute winner from Declan Frith and then Posh
- 1:44battled red into A11 draw at the Western Stadium with Gustav
- 1:48Lindrum grabbing the equalizer. And finally on New Year's Day
- 1:52they kicked off 2026 with a confident 2 nil win away at
- 1:56Rotherham, extending their excellent form and they now sit
- 1:59a commendable 11th in the table. And manager Luke Williams
- 2:03praised his side's grit and growing maturity.
- 2:06And it's hard to argue Posh look sharp, organized and hungry
- 2:11heading into the new year. Next up for Posh is a trip to
- 2:14Lincoln on Saturday, sorry Sunday the 4th of January with
- 2:18the 12 noon kick off across the city.
- 2:21It wasn't the ideal festive spell for Peterborough sports,
- 2:24although it wasn't without its bright spots.
- 2:27The standout fixture came on Boxing Day where they earned A
- 2:30battling 2 two draw away at King's Lynn in front of more
- 2:33than 1500 fans. Luka Miller and Mark Jones
- 2:37struck for the Turbines, who led at half time before Lynn hit
- 2:40back with a superb free kick. Phil Brown's side showed real
- 2:44character under pressure in the final half hour and the point
- 2:48keeps them in the mix as they look to climb the National
- 2:51League N table in 2026. Sports went on to face fellow
- 2:55relegation contenders Oxford City and they dominated large
- 2:59spells of the game but couldn't find the breakthrough in a
- 3:02frustrating goalless draw at Pym's Park.
- 3:05They hit the woodwork twice in the first half and were
- 3:07repeatedly denied by Oxford keeper Jamie Partington.
- 3:11Oxford had chances of their own but Sports keeper Peter Crook
- 3:15produced 2 strong saves to keep things level.
- 3:19Despite controlling possession after the break, Sports couldn't
- 3:22turn pressure into a goal and had to settle for a point that
- 3:25keeps them just outside the relegation zone heading into the
- 3:29new year. Next up is another home game
- 3:31against Marine tomorrow with a 3:00 PM kick off.
- 3:34Sports have already beaten Marine in the first half of the
- 3:37season, but since then the Merseyside outfit have climbed
- 3:40to 10th position, so it'd be a challenge for the city's second
- 3:44side. The club have announced an 8:00
- 3:46AM pitch inspection tomorrow, so please follow the club's social
- 3:50media accounts for the latest news in the morning.
- 3:53Another change to the fixture list as well at Sports is the
- 3:56away game FC filed originally scheduled for the 10th of
- 4:00January but filed RNFA Trophy action on that day.
- 4:04So the game was rescheduled for the 13th of January, but a
- 4:08further change has now meant the game will be played on Tuesday
- 4:12the 3rd of February. Again, just check out the club
- 4:16social media accounts for more details there.
- 4:20If you wanted some festive fireworks then The Phantoms
- 4:22certainly lit the fuse. They delivered a Christmas
- 4:25cracker at Planet Ice with an 86 thriller over rivals MK
- 4:29Lightning in front of a sell out crowd.
- 4:32Cam Howe stole the show with five goals, including the
- 4:34stunning late hat trick inside 3 minutes.
- 4:37Captain Luke Ferreira continued his outstanding season, adding
- 4:41assists and confirming a new three-year contract extension.
- 4:46The win keeps The Phantoms firmly in the top four of the
- 4:49National League standings and heading towards playoff ice
- 4:52hockey once again this season. The Planet Ice win followed A53
- 4:57defeat in the reverse fixture the day before.
- 5:00Despite trading blows early on, MK Lightning proved more
- 5:03clinical, striking key goals on the power play and capitalizing
- 5:07on defensive lapses. The Phantoms kept themselves in
- 5:11it through goals from Ralph Sinceris, Cam Howe and Dylan
- 5:15Lawrence. But KS late surge including a
- 5:18sharp finish from Harry Gulliver sealed the win and Peterborough
- 5:23Roller Hockey Club capped off the pre Christmas fixtures with
- 5:27a superb 7 two home win over her and Bay at Bushfield's Leisure
- 5:31Centre. It was fast, physical and full
- 5:34of goals. Peterborough controlled the game
- 5:36from the start to the finish. Goal scorers were at
- 5:39Peterborough where Harry Hillen four goals, Michael Carter with
- 5:42two and Luca Oakley with one. Man of the match was Harry
- 5:46Hillam and that result keeps them competitive in the Premier
- 5:50League table as they prepare for the January restart and finally
- 5:55dip on. We've just got a little Boxing
- 5:56Day round up for the local clubs.
- 5:59It was of course Derby day on Boxing Day and deep in Rangers
- 6:02enjoyed a perfect post Christmas boost with A2 nil away win at
- 6:06Wisbech Town. Goals from Hendo and Randall
- 6:09delivered the points and the festive cheer for the Rangers
- 6:12faithful. Whittlesey Athletic were at home
- 6:14on the 27th of December hosting FC Peterborough in a local
- 6:19furlough nun Division 1 N Derby. The score finished two one to FC
- 6:23Peterborough and Spalding United delivered one of the standout
- 6:27Boxing Day results, beating rivals Stamford three nil at the
- 6:31Sahali Stewart Field. A dominant performance once
- 6:35again, you have to say, by the tulips in front of a bumper
- 6:38holiday crowd. And that's your headlines for
- 6:40this week. Thank you, Nige.
- 6:42Yeah, lots going on as always. And football normally is the
- 6:45sort of main sport this time of year because I know a lot of the
- 6:47other local clubs perhaps have a bit of a Christmas break and
- 6:51lots of things happening. And Posh in a good way.
- 6:54Now really, compared to earlier in the season, yeah, looking up,
- 6:58rather looking down, really only 6 points off the playoff.
- 7:00Absolutely. Yeah, I think we can start
- 7:03talking about Posh in a much better vein now than a few weeks
- 7:08ago. All the way up to it's it's very
- 7:11close though, all the way up to 11th now.
- 7:12But you look, it's only sort of three points and they're back
- 7:15down to the top of the playoffs again.
- 7:16So it's it's tight in League One.
- 7:19But yeah, certainly looking at the table now, it's it's much
- 7:22better viewing than what it was. Absolutely.
- 7:24And sports, I know you follow them closely.
- 7:27You're your our sort of representation from, from PCR
- 7:31sports in terms of the media and and you do the the interviews
- 7:34with the manager, Phil Brown and then the various other people
- 7:36and sports again had a a poor start to the season, but slowly
- 7:43kind of coming back up. They're out of the the
- 7:45relegation zone at the moment. And it looks like Phil Brown,
- 7:50you know, his impact is, is, is notable, isn't it?
- 7:53I think it's slowly turning it around.
- 7:55Yeah, it's it's difficult. I think it will be a close
- 7:58friend thing. I think we'll just come out of
- 8:01the bottom four and then we'll go in it again and it it's going
- 8:04to be that pattern for the end of the season.
- 8:05And hopefully we'll finish on the the right side of that line
- 8:08come the end of the season. But yeah, Phil Brown's
- 8:11definitely making a difference. It's it's a totally different
- 8:15side from what started the season as well.
- 8:19Injuries continue to be a problem for sports.
- 8:25Dan Jarvis again limped out over the Christmas period and a
- 8:30couple of other injuries as well that have been really unlucky.
- 8:32And I know from from Phil's interviews, he's been saying
- 8:36that that's solely or he, he feels it's solely because
- 8:39they're part time and that the quicker they can go hybrid and
- 8:42then potentially full time, that'll be better because the
- 8:45players will do a lot more strength and conditioning work
- 8:48rather than just fitness work. And they don't get the chance to
- 8:52do that, hence a lot of injuries.
- 8:54That's that's his view on that. Absolutely, yeah, we'll see.
- 8:56It's going to be, it's going to be a long season, but it's a,
- 8:59it's never a dull moment that People's park.
- 9:01And tomorrow's game, obviously, hopefully the weather won't
- 9:04cancel it, but that's another another again, every game is
- 9:08important really at the moment is.
- 9:09It yeah, let's hope so. The the problem with weekend
- 9:12games getting called off, of course, is that they'll be
- 9:15replayed on Tuesday. We've had that with File.
- 9:17That's now a long trip to the other side of Blackpool on a
- 9:20Tuesday night. This one's home, so it won't be
- 9:24too bad, but it's still a lot of travelling from Marine to come
- 9:27down to to Peterborough. They're on Merseyside, of
- 9:30course. So yeah, we we want to get the
- 9:32game on if we possibly can. There is a a heavy freeze
- 9:37forecast for tonight. It's a pitch inspection at 8:00
- 9:40in the morning. And if you're going to be honest
- 9:43there, that should be frozen in the morning.
- 9:45But there are parts of the Pyms Park pitch that won't see
- 9:48sunshine tomorrow, so I don't know it's it's a tricky one
- 9:52we'll have to wait in soon. And you gotta be fair to the
- 9:53opponents, especially if they gotta travel that far as well.
- 9:55Have you? Absolutely.
- 9:56That's that's why it's 8:00 in the morning so that that Marine,
- 9:59you know, don't have to set off not knowing whether it's gonna
- 10:03be on or not. The the reverse of that has
- 10:06happened a few times and and even the horrible situation
- 10:10South Shields sports got halfway up to South Shields when it was
- 10:13called off. And you know, nobody wants that
- 10:15at that level of football because it just just brings
- 10:18costs that that the club can't afford.
- 10:20Absolutely. So watch this space and I'm sure
- 10:22we'll share the news on our social media depending on what
- 10:25happens in the morning. Thank you, Nigel.
- 10:26Right, let's take a break and we speak in golf after the break.
- 10:30We'll be speaking to Tally Martin and her caddy and mum
- 10:33City Martin. We'll be talking about the
- 10:34success they've had in 2025 playing around the world, and we
- 10:39look forward to hear from them in a few minutes.
- 10:41Stay tuned this PCR. You're listening to PCR sports.

- 11:26Right back to this evening show with Talia and City Martin, who
- 11:30are a mother and daughter team, professional golfers and is the
- 11:35golfer and mum. City is the caddy and and
- 11:38manager, I believe as we were speaking before the show.
- 11:42So welcome back to the show guys.
- 11:43It's always great to have you on.
- 11:45No, thank you for having us. Yes, it's always good to be
- 11:48back. And yeah, after the Christmas
- 11:50times and everything. Absolutely.
- 11:52Happy New Year. Yes.
- 11:53Well, thank you and to you too and thanks for kicking off 2026
- 11:57for us so. Thank.
- 11:58You good to have you. You were, you were last with us
- 12:01in November 23. So time flies over two years
- 12:04ago. Two years ago, Yeah.
- 12:06Time flies. You're having fun.
- 12:07It does like that and you're having a lot of fun at the
- 12:09moment. Lots.
- 12:10Of fun, yeah. So I mean, how has things been
- 12:13for you since since you last been on the show?
- 12:15I know 2025 has been. You've seen some success, which
- 12:19is good. Yeah.
- 12:21So we've kind of followed your story.
- 12:22I think the first time you were ever on in 2022, I believe it
- 12:25was, I can't remember whether you just turned pro or you were
- 12:28about to turn pro and, and we've kind of followed your career on
- 12:33the show and, and, and since then and.
- 12:35I appreciate that all the support is, yeah, I mean, no.
- 12:38It's a pleasure, you know, you're, you're fantastic at what
- 12:41you do and you're a great friend of the show and we love to to
- 12:44speak with you every time you come in.
- 12:45So. So yeah.
- 12:46Tell us more about what's happened since, I suppose since
- 12:49November 2323 and in particular last year.
- 12:51Yeah. So yeah, if we work backwards,
- 12:56yeah, 2024 it was a struggle. And I, I will admit that you
- 13:00know, as sports players we're, we always have the ups and downs
- 13:04and 2024 was a lot of downs and ups.
- 13:08And I did lose a little bit of my confidence and then ended off
- 13:132024 still managing to gain some sort of status ready for 2025.
- 13:19And then the at the beginning of 2025 it my confidence I was
- 13:24still struggling with. That's why I always have my mum,
- 13:28well travel with me on the bag to just help me mentally mostly.
- 13:33And and then, yeah, I think it was I think the fourth or fifth
- 13:38tournament in 2025. I think it was the fifth
- 13:42tournament in 2025. And it was the last tournament
- 13:46for the Sunshine Tour event which was held in South Africa.
- 13:50And I thought to start my year on that tour because it's always
- 13:54a good way to begin in the sunshine and and travel around
- 13:58there is ran to pounds is quite a good conversion rate.
- 14:04And yeah, the final event you had to win the tournament in
- 14:09order to get a placing on the late these European Tour South
- 14:13African Opens. And I don't know why I said to
- 14:16mum we didn't have the best of starts to 2025.
- 14:21But I said to mum, look, let's let's put all our eggs in one
- 14:24basket. Let's let's try and win this
- 14:26tournament. So then we have a place in the
- 14:29Ladies European Tour in South African Open.
- 14:33Yes, for for the two to South African Opens and, and I don't
- 14:39know what happened that week, but I didn't think about any
- 14:42fears or anything. I just saw the end goal and I
- 14:45was just so focused on trying to win to get that placing.
- 14:49So then we can start the 2025 better off than what what 2024
- 14:55was. And, and yeah, that week
- 14:57everything just fall into place. I felt really comfortable.
- 15:01I felt confident. I got back all, all the positive
- 15:05energy that I needed during that week and, and the weather was
- 15:10hit and miss, but luckily it didn't wipe out too much of the
- 15:15week. And yeah, managed to get get the
- 15:17wind in the end. And I couldn't, couldn't believe
- 15:20that I actually did it. And I just kept on manifesting
- 15:25it throughout that week. I kept on visualising before I
- 15:28go to bed, holding up that trophy.
- 15:30And it really does work when you put your mind to it and you
- 15:33really do focus on what you want.
- 15:35You can achieve anything really with two.
- 15:38Absolutely amazing story and, and you know, you hear this from
- 15:40a lot of supporting people around what you've just
- 15:43mentioned there about visualising manifestation and so
- 15:46that your brain and your mind is tuned into that that that course
- 15:49of action, isn't it? And obviously it's paid
- 15:52dividends for you and and. Yeah, you attract the energy
- 15:54that you want. That's right.
- 15:55And and yeah, it's, you hear it all the time.
- 15:59You know all these greats, the Goats of the sports and all the
- 16:02different types of sporting industries and when you actually
- 16:07do it and it actually works. You think, wow, this thing does
- 16:10work? Wow OK.
- 16:11Can they put this into like a drink?
- 16:14Yeah, that's right. Yeah, just just take a sip
- 16:16whenever you need it and off you go.
- 16:17That'd be amazing, wouldn't? It yeah, but but yeah, but it
- 16:20was so good to have my confidence back and and then,
- 16:24yeah. And then it got me the placing
- 16:26for the South African opens for the Ladies European Tour, which
- 16:29then, you know, domino effects and got me points and then got
- 16:33me cards and etcetera. And then I didn't think about
- 16:38another win, but I think a month or within the space of a month,
- 16:43I think, yeah. After South Africa, we went to
- 16:46Morocco for the Ladies European Tour access tour, which is like
- 16:51a, how can I say it, like a, a, a build a build up tour to the
- 16:57Ladies European Tour. So yeah, it's just a one level
- 17:01below the European Tour. And, and yeah, I was in Morocco.
- 17:05I nearly didn't go because I already had some points on the
- 17:09main tour that I didn't need to actually go and play this.
- 17:12But I said to mum, we already booked everything, let's just
- 17:14go. And again, I just played with,
- 17:18yeah, No Fear, just confidence. I liked the course and it was
- 17:23windy as well, so I love the challenge of the wind and it
- 17:26makes you more creative on the course and and yeah, for some
- 17:31reason it went into. A.
- 17:34Win within the space of a month. It wasn't an easy win.
- 17:38No win is easy. But it was a a long time because
- 17:42we had to go through a playoff and the playoff went on for
- 17:46quite some time. So I think the playoff went at
- 17:494:00. Times.
- 17:50Yeah, 4 times it took took us 4 No 1235 holes.
- 17:55It took us to yeah, get get the win over.
- 17:58So playoff is effective like I suppose a football liquid
- 18:01penalty shootout is it? Yes, yeah, yes.
- 18:03So. You go hole by individually,
- 18:04hole by hole to see who who wins the hole.
- 18:07Yeah, who beats? So it was me versus an another
- 18:11girl and we played hole 18 again and again until someone.
- 18:19Oh she played the same hole dude.
- 18:20Same hole. And then because it took, I
- 18:22think the fourth attempt, we both scored the same four times
- 18:27in a row. They changed the hole to 17.
- 18:30And then and then I managed to, yeah, get the better score on
- 18:34that hole to then win the putt actually went round the hole 360
- 18:40and then finally dropped because I thought it was going to do a
- 18:43lip out. It wasn't going to go in.
- 18:45And then I was looking at it. I was thinking, don't you dare.
- 18:49And it actually did drop in. And I was like, oh, it's the.
- 18:52Sort of thing you see in a film, isn't it?
- 18:54Yeah. It was, it was weird in my mind
- 18:56it would happen in such a slow motion effect, but I saw the
- 18:59video back and it was really quick and it just, yeah.
- 19:03Managed to drop in to. To get the win.
- 19:06But no, it was yeah, it was unexpected, but it was nice to
- 19:11also build more confidence, really throughout the season.
- 19:14But yeah. And like I say, if you had that
- 19:16dip in confidence the previous year, this is kind of completely
- 19:19really. Opposite yeah, I was saying to
- 19:21mum, reflecting back on 2025, it's it's not the end of
- 19:27anything it's the start of me truly believing myself to now I
- 19:31can add extra goals to things that I I never thought that I I
- 19:35would be able to add and yeah, so it's nice to yeah, reach
- 19:41higher. I guess your belief levels are
- 19:43levelling up then, aren't they really?
- 19:44Yes, yeah, yeah, there's lots of plans coming into a head of for
- 19:482026 and yeah, we'll see how it all goes.
- 19:52But yeah, have new goals now. Fantastic.
- 19:55That's amazing news, right? So let's take a short break
- 19:57there on that point, because I'd like to speak to city as well
- 20:01after break just to. Kind of get a view on things and
- 20:04and obviously be nice to know. Again, just a reminder to the
- 20:07resistance of your kind of story of how you got into golf because
- 20:10I think that's really interesting.
- 20:11Yeah. So we'll touch on that as well.
- 20:13So, right, we'll take that break now and we're back in a few
- 20:15minutes. It's PCR FM.
- 20:27You're listening to PCR sports. Welcome back to the PCR Sports
- 20:36show, myself and Dipam and Nigel this evening and you can listen
- 20:41to us in many ways. You don't have to wait.
- 20:43You'd have to use radio the old fashioned way, although you can
- 20:47one O 3.2 FM or TuneIn on a digital device on DAB or you can
- 20:52listen in on our app. Just download the PCRFM app or
- 20:55go to our website pcrfm.co.uk or if you've got one of these smart
- 20:59speaker devices then ask you to play PCRFM and it should oblige
- 21:02as well. So yeah, many ways you can
- 21:04listen to us and no matter where you are in the world, if you're
- 21:07like Talia who travel around the world, then you can listen to us
- 21:10wherever you are in the world. So yes, back to Talia and the
- 21:13city. Who's speaking to Talia about
- 21:15her golfing achievements in 2025?
- 21:18And city, who's her caddy, her mum and all around just general
- 21:22support and business manager. City, welcome to the show again
- 21:27and how are you? Thank you for having me.
- 21:29No pleasure. It's always great to have you
- 21:30both on the show. So obviously you're you're
- 21:33involved in in in the golf sport as much as Talia, but in various
- 21:37obviously different ways. Rather than actually playing
- 21:40you're you're on the side doing all the other suppose the unseen
- 21:44work that Talia doesn't have to worry about and and you cover
- 21:47all those bases. So that's all my.
- 21:49Winnings, though. That's that's a heck of a
- 21:52contract she signed with you then.
- 21:54What I said is CEO for everything.
- 21:57Yeah. I mean, so you obviously, I
- 22:03mean, just tell us about your kind of involvement and, and,
- 22:05and you know what you do and then how you support Talia and
- 22:08what she does. Yes, because I know the Gov is
- 22:14very, very tough and mentally and physically everything and
- 22:20I'm there to support her everything from you know, I
- 22:26don't want to see is it like worried about food, about the
- 22:29accommodation or travelling and everything and driving handle
- 22:36everything for her and she just concentrate to practice and play
- 22:42and then on the course. I just keep her mind just cool
- 22:49and don't panic. Yeah, sometimes you're panic.
- 22:53When you panic, you, you know, you can't hit the ball properly.
- 22:57And yeah, keep her calm and carry on.
- 23:00I mean, it's, it's an amazing story.
- 23:02I mean, again, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't, I
- 23:04presume there's not many parents, siblings, parent sort
- 23:09of daughter or son situations in the Gulf, is there or does it
- 23:13happen quite often you've. Been together for a long time,
- 23:17yeah. But there there is, you know,
- 23:20their mum and dads or brothers or family.
- 23:23Members. Family members.
- 23:24Yeah, Caddy, but maybe we keep. We keep their longer, yeah.
- 23:28Yeah, yeah. Mums been, yeah.
- 23:31But I guess you know, whether it's your mum, dad or another
- 23:35family member, in some ways they know you better than most.
- 23:38So if you, if you've got a what you regard as as as a more of a
- 23:43conventional business manager in or or a coach or a caddy in,
- 23:46yeah, perhaps they don't know you as well as your your parent
- 23:48does. For example, you know your
- 23:49psyche, how you mentally you know work and all else.
- 23:53Especially when my mum knows if I haven't had food then you need
- 23:58to feed her straight away. So there's those like little
- 24:00things that you're family member, whoever it is would
- 24:04would know better than just like a professional caddy or manager,
- 24:09etcetera, Unless you know, you just need to spend a lot of time
- 24:13together to really understand each other.
- 24:15And I think that's why we work quite well together, because we
- 24:20we know each other. Inside out, yeah, of.
- 24:22Course we have the same hobby and sometime when you have to
- 24:26golf, if they have a we like swimming and we like exercise
- 24:31we're doing. Same sort of thing.
- 24:33Yeah, we like we always active. Yeah, yeah.
- 24:36Which is amazing. What's what's that dynamic like
- 24:39though? Because parents and siblings
- 24:41don't get on all the time as that ever.
- 24:45Gosh, yeah. Say like we are the perfect.
- 24:49No, we have some ups and downs and I think it's just how we
- 24:55recover. Would you agree?
- 24:56Yeah, from it, Yeah. And and we just know when to
- 25:00give each other space. Yes.
- 25:03And when we need to give each other a hug or, you know, we
- 25:07understand that and communicate better.
- 25:09Yeah, for that. Which is good.
- 25:11It sounds like there's obviously great respect between you, as
- 25:13you know, you know each other very well.
- 25:15Yeah. And you have the the capability
- 25:19to overcome challenges, you know, whether it's with each
- 25:21other or the actual sport or the OR the event.
- 25:23And the other important thing when on the course we keep like
- 25:27business, we don't have mum or or daughter that and we just
- 25:33said this doesn't matter what we say, there's nothing.
- 25:38It's our personal situation. It's more purely professional,
- 25:40yeah, which is brilliant. So you don't often have to play
- 25:43that I'm your mum card, do you? Yeah, do as I say she's.
- 25:49Still the CEO. Yeah, absolutely.
- 25:51And she gets all the winnings. Yeah.
- 25:57Fantastic. I mean what, what, what's,
- 26:00what's the most sort of challenging and what's the most
- 26:03sort of rewarding part of what you do city imagine reward wise.
- 26:10Obviously your own daughter succeeding in the sport must be
- 26:12quite rewarding. And my company obviously.
- 26:14Obviously. Yeah, this because the on LET
- 26:20and the golf, they're very, very friendly.
- 26:24There's A and I feel like comfortable and sometimes when
- 26:32because I'm small, when I'm carried a bag, just people just
- 26:37see from behind me, just the back just walking see me and
- 26:43they have there's a one I think in India, someone just come to
- 26:47me and say, do you need help? Fantastic.
- 26:53And I said no, I'm OK. Yeah.
- 26:55Yeah. So you can't, you can't take
- 26:57over from me because if you take over, this disqualified.
- 27:00Yes, of course. Yeah.
- 27:02And then I'm I'm fine. If I'm not fine, I'm not here.
- 27:06Yeah, they just worry because I'm so small.
- 27:08Working. Yeah.
- 27:11And the and the, the golf, I mean, the caddy's got a really
- 27:13important job to do, haven't they?
- 27:15You need to be on top of all the rules and, and you see lots of
- 27:18caddies actually telling the players how to play shots and
- 27:22yardage and stuff like that. How difficult is it to keep on
- 27:26top of all that in? This Yeah, there's like
- 27:30sometimes this I need to see the win and I say Talia the win from
- 27:36whatever, but Talia can manage how strong the win.
- 27:40And I'm not saying about the numbers because I don't want to
- 27:45interfere with her numbers. I just OK if Talia said mom, I
- 27:49think this one is OK, I said OK, go for it.
- 27:53I just support like that and make her confident and.
- 27:58Yeah, she's very good at knowing which direction the wind is
- 28:03coming. Oh, really?
- 28:04Really good with that. And there was, there's two times
- 28:08actually, but one time in France, I needed this putt to be
- 28:13able to get into the top 10 to then go to the next event, which
- 28:18is a big event, an Aramco event in China.
- 28:21And I needed to hold this putt for me to get into the China
- 28:24event. And I said to mum, I'm
- 28:27struggling here. What?
- 28:28What's the read? And then she went and read and
- 28:31we discussed and I trusted her judgement and it went in and it
- 28:36was those like little moments because sometimes a player can't
- 28:41always, you know, see or judge it, right, because you're in the
- 28:44moment, you're panicking or adrenaline comes through.
- 28:47So Mum sometimes can just calm the waters and yeah, make me see
- 28:52what, what? I guess when you're you're there
- 28:54playing with the club in your hand, like say the focus, the
- 28:58bit of pressure, whatever, that kind of starts to sort of play
- 29:02emotionally on you I suppose as well.
- 29:03Whereas your mum is kind of slightly withdrawn and and could
- 29:06be more objective about the situation, can't.
- 29:07You, yeah, it's, it's like you see it from the outside
- 29:10perspective. I'm always, I mean, when she
- 29:12asks me, I'm not I'm not interfere when she's thinking
- 29:15whatever, when she's struggling and say mum, can you help me?
- 29:19What this thing OK. And then?
- 29:21You're there. Yeah, you're there.
- 29:23Yeah. It's like a yeah, a calling.
- 29:25Yeah, helpline. That's it, yeah.
- 29:28And I guess, I guess as well, when Talia wins or does really
- 29:31well in the tournament, you're so proud, then you know, other
- 29:35caddies that are, are just, I'm going to say just caddies.
- 29:38That's the wrong terminology because they've got a very
- 29:40important job. But it must be hard to keep a
- 29:43lid on that excitement as well. Yeah, sounds on when like Talia
- 29:47win when there's a half parts you need to go in, you need to
- 29:51buddy, let's say to win and then I'm just thinking, come on
- 29:56talent, you can't insult me. And then when she hold it and I
- 30:00just screaming and she just I got.
- 30:04So sure. Where did that?
- 30:06Where did that? Where did that come from?
- 30:09There's so many videos where everyone's like loving mums
- 30:13reaction. There's the fist pump fantastic
- 30:17towards the end which which is nice.
- 30:18That's what it's all about. Really.
- 30:20And how obviously the caddy follows the play around and, and
- 30:23I presume there's regulation about how close you become to
- 30:27the player or how far do you have to stay from, from when
- 30:29you're playing a shot and all that sort.
- 30:31Of just as long as it's not behind the the player as meaning
- 30:36how can I say like you're helping them alignment sort of
- 30:40thing, but you depends on the player where where caddy stands.
- 30:44But rules wise and you can't stand where it looks like you're
- 30:49helping the player to align. To align the shot, yeah.
- 30:51So you have to be slightly to one side maybe?
- 30:52Yeah, yeah, to the side, yeah. So, but yeah, depends on the
- 30:55player. But me, I don't like anyone
- 30:58being behind. I like to see where people
- 31:00people are, yes. So if I'm over the ball, I just
- 31:02need someone like. You see your mum in the out of
- 31:04the corner of your eyes. She's there waiting to jump up
- 31:07when that ball goes in. With all that fist pump.
- 31:11Fantastic. Sally coming back to you, I
- 31:14mean, just just before we go in a couple of minutes before we go
- 31:16on the next break, just again reminder of how you got into
- 31:19sport because golf wasn't your your kind of at the time, golf
- 31:22wasn't your first choice, was it?
- 31:23No. No, it wasn't.
- 31:25Tennis was my first choice. Technically we're from a tennis
- 31:30sort of family background 'cause I love running about and I just,
- 31:35I, yeah, I like being active. So I never considered golf as a
- 31:39sport back then, 'cause I was thinking, well, you're walking,
- 31:43so it's not, it's not a sport. And then me and my dad, we went
- 31:49to a restaurant and we didn't book a table.
- 31:53So we had to wait. And it was an hour wait.
- 31:55And I was thinking, well, what can we do in an hour?
- 31:57And there was a driving range nearby.
- 32:00And yes, so we went to the driving range, which back then,
- 32:03and Peter was called the Swingers.
- 32:05That's right, yes, next to Harvester, which is now Miller.
- 32:09Something else? Yeah, absolutely.
- 32:11It's all near Ferry Meadows. It's near theme park, isn't it?
- 32:14Yeah. And, and yes, so we went to the
- 32:16driving range and I just got hooked ever since then.
- 32:20And if I never had that experience, I don't think I
- 32:24would ever pick up the Yeah the sport.
- 32:26Goal. So it's almost, it's just by
- 32:27chance you got into into sport, isn't it?
- 32:30Really. Yeah, yeah.
- 32:31Fate. And now, now here we are at Wow,
- 32:34yeah, yeah. It is crazy to think about it
- 32:36now because yeah, I really did not like the thought of of golf.
- 32:41And my dad always wanted me to try and I was like, no, no, no,
- 32:45I want to run. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 32:47Now I don't want to run. Turning 30 this year, I'm
- 32:51thinking no golf is. Golf was the right choice, but
- 32:53it is, I mean, it is still a physically demanding sport,
- 32:56isn't it? And, and the exercise is
- 32:57certainly there because, you know, every match you must walk
- 33:00miles and miles. You, you certainly get your
- 33:02steps in. Don't.
- 33:02You a long time. 6-6 hours, six hours it takes for for around
- 33:07best is probably like 5 hours and sometimes in the heat like
- 33:1130 to 35°. Five hours is wow, yeah, quite a
- 33:15lot. Do you measure your steps on
- 33:17around? Do you know how many you do do?
- 33:19I know I used to wear a woop band.
- 33:21Yeah you used to tell me all the time but I forgot the amount.
- 33:24But I do remember how much calories I burnt which is around
- 33:283005. 100 Wow, what in a one round of golf?
- 33:31One round. Yeah.
- 33:32Eighteen holes. Yeah, that's madness.
- 33:34And I think that was only a practice round.
- 33:36I don't think that was tournament.
- 33:37Yeah, yeah. But yeah, it's but it is a lot
- 33:41physically demanding now golf and everyone wanting to chase
- 33:44distance now. Yeah.
- 33:46So there's a lot of gym and strength and power mainly.
- 33:50So offseason, I'm in the gym doing like power training,
- 33:54strength training, Yeah, different to tennis.
- 33:57Yeah, it is it, isn't it? Wow, fantastic.
- 34:00So right, let's take our final break then and we're back with
- 34:02more golf chats with Talia and City.
- 34:04Stay tuned. It's PCRF.
- 34:06You're listening to PCR sports. You listen to the PCR Sports
- 34:20Show myself, Dipam and Nigel this evening.
- 34:22If you've missed any part of the show, you've missed a cracker.
- 34:24We've got Talia and City Martin who are a mother and daughter
- 34:28professional golfing team. But you can listen back to our
- 34:31show after 7:00 on our website pcrfm.co.uk and catch up that
- 34:36way. Talia, I mean, you obviously
- 34:40told just just before the break that you mentioned about how you
- 34:42got into sport, which was circumstantial, let's say.
- 34:45And but you're obviously succeeding very well at it now
- 34:49in terms of you touched on it, Obviously the, the golf isn't,
- 34:53is now sort of a really physical demanding sport compared to
- 34:55perhaps he was before and mentally as well.
- 34:59So I mean, how do you kind of reset in, you know, if you're
- 35:03playing, you're playing the game.
- 35:04And I know you said obviously your mum's there to support you,
- 35:07but, you know, you perhaps do a shot that doesn't go as planned.
- 35:10Yeah. How do you kind of mentally
- 35:11reset? Does it play in your mind or do
- 35:13you just think, well, it's gone now, let me just try and get on
- 35:15and recover? And practice letting things go.
- 35:19I actually do meditation at a in, in the mornings actually.
- 35:25And there's a thing on YouTube where I always have where it's
- 35:29called letting go and it's just a meditation to help you let
- 35:33whatever happens throughout your day.
- 35:35Could be anything. Could be you spilt your coffee
- 35:37or something and you just let it go.
- 35:39It happened, just let it go. But there are days where I don't
- 35:42let it go and it's just learning how, how can I say it is?
- 35:49I feel like sometimes there are days when I, I don't let it go
- 35:53and I, I let it ball up and, and then I, I let it go in a way
- 35:58where in a frustrate frustration, but in a quick
- 36:03second. So I don't let it, you know,
- 36:06carry it, continue the negative thoughts or energy continue.
- 36:10So if I have those days where I find it hard for me to stay calm
- 36:15and I need to let it out in in frustration to myself, I would
- 36:20only give myself like a minute or a certain second before I go
- 36:25to my next shot. So the walk between shots will
- 36:28be my way of letting whatever frustration and then as soon as
- 36:33I get to my next shot, that's it.
- 36:35Then you have to then let it go because if you keep that
- 36:38negative energy throughout your round, you're wasting so of.
- 36:42Course you. Are, and don't, don't get me
- 36:44wrong, I've had rounds where I did did keep that negative
- 36:48energy throughout that round and I saw the, the not benefits of
- 36:53having that energy going through, but it's, it's hard,
- 36:57it's hard to train and it's and I just, you just go to prepare
- 37:00yourself during the day. So let's say like when you wake
- 37:03up, you don't rush. If you rush things, then you
- 37:06rush throughout your whole day and whatever you do.
- 37:09So I always try to start my day calm, do your bed and do your
- 37:14meditation, do your stretching, do things slowly and calmly
- 37:17because that really does affect your whole day throughout.
- 37:21If I rush or if I put the lamb on, snooze and snooze and snooze
- 37:25and then I rush my day, I always have an average or bad round,
- 37:29never a good round. So yeah, how you start your day
- 37:32is so important for me. Because it kind of almost, that
- 37:35builds up clutter then that hits your mind, doesn't it?
- 37:37Throughout the day, then, yeah. No, definitely.
- 37:38It really does. And yeah, if you have clutter in
- 37:42anything that you do, if you have clutter in your head and
- 37:44not not a clear understanding of what you want to do, you, you're
- 37:48not really gonna start your day well.
- 37:49No, absolutely. No, end it.
- 37:51Well, you. Mentioned about obviously
- 37:53releasing energy between holes and that I mean how easy is
- 37:56that? Because obviously you're you're
- 37:58a in a public place you've got eyes on you cameras on you,
- 38:01potentially your opponent watching you yeah.
- 38:03How do you kind of manage that then?
- 38:05Well. I I do it verbally to myself.
- 38:09It doesn't have to be said out loud.
- 38:12It's mostly all in my head. I might have like a little
- 38:15mumble film, but nothing, nothing where it's out loud.
- 38:21And yeah, so I try to control it all in my head so no one really
- 38:26knows what's going on. So I have a poker face.
- 38:29Sometimes I would put sunglasses back on.
- 38:32No one could really see what I'm feeling.
- 38:35But yeah, that's how I I do it anyway.
- 38:37I try to keep it in a closed box, but there are times where I
- 38:41don't and I put my hands up. There are times where I did want
- 38:44to throw my club, but I just drop my club.
- 38:46I would just let go. If I have the feeling of that I
- 38:49want to throw that club, just drop it.
- 38:51I just drop it. Yeah.
- 38:52So that's the only thing that you would really see me do is if
- 38:55I drop my club or whatever. That's just me like OK, Talia,
- 38:58you need. And that's an indicator for your
- 39:00mum as well, isn't it? Yeah.
- 39:02Yes, I guess. In a bunch of that food I guess.
- 39:05Keep quiet, yeah? Yeah, yeah.
- 39:07And just picked up the club. And just walking.
- 39:11So how do you city, how do you deal with that?
- 39:13If you see that Talia's perhaps suffering emotionally or there's
- 39:17there's she's not aligned as she should be.
- 39:19What how do you kind of, you know, play that and then with
- 39:21with, do you step in at that point or do you allow her to
- 39:24sort of express herself privately and then.
- 39:26I just allow her her to express what she fear and everything
- 39:30because I don't want to interfere because when the
- 39:34situation if I'm interfere, maybe she's more irritated and I
- 39:39just let it go, watch it and then just keep little bit
- 39:43distant just walking. And after that, because she's
- 39:47very good, she just not long after she just let it go and
- 39:53then she can come back, then become normal.
- 39:57Yeah, but there are days where sometimes when I hit a bad shot,
- 40:01I laugh. It's really weird.
- 40:03I sometimes go, oh, OK, it went there.
- 40:05Right, time to get the wedge. Yeah, Yeah.
- 40:08So you kind of, that's another way of just expressing the
- 40:10energy, isn't it? I try and make it as a comedy.
- 40:13Yeah, to be honest, yeah, because.
- 40:14If you don't laugh at yourself then.
- 40:16That's it. Plus it throws your opponent off
- 40:18as well. Makes my mum laugh.
- 40:21That's right. Yeah, exactly the.
- 40:23Gold is like the score. You know you can have like
- 40:27double boogie, let's say 1 hole and then we can catch up.
- 40:31You know you can get birdie or something not.
- 40:34The end of the. End of World.
- 40:36That's why you need to keep calm all the time.
- 40:39If it's but with Talia, just watch.
- 40:42If she rushed everything, no, it's not good.
- 40:46Yeah, yeah, that's why I just make her slowing down.
- 40:49Yeah, take time, yeah. Take time.
- 40:51Yeah, which makes sense, right? A couple of minutes left.
- 40:53This show goes so fast, we could carry for another hour.
- 40:57So plans for 2026? You're off travelling again?
- 41:01Yeah, I say that travelling is not obviously a leisure travel,
- 41:04it's for professional purposes. So tell us about how this year
- 41:07will start to pan out for you. Yeah, so the first part of the
- 41:09year, Indonesia open, yes, we'll be leaving on the 15th, going to
- 41:15Indonesia as there's a woman's open there and we want to
- 41:19support that. My mum's from Indonesia, so this
- 41:22is like special when we get to visit family and everything.
- 41:25And also my family from Indonesia can actually watch me
- 41:30professional job. So it's a special moment.
- 41:32And yeah. And then after that we'll go to
- 41:35South Africa to do the Sunshine Tour because I love that tour.
- 41:39It's really good. And it's it just helps you ease
