- 0:57SPEAKER_01: And there's actually two games.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: One probably is over with.
- 1:00SPEAKER_01: That's Unadilla Valley at Morrisville, Eaton.

- 1:08SPEAKER_01: They may still be playing.

- 1:16SPEAKER_01: You've got horseheads at Waverly, and that's at 6 p.m.
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: And Waverly is coming off a week of quarantine.
- 1:22SPEAKER_01: So we're not sure how that's going to affect them going against a really good team like Horseheads.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Next game up is Watkins Glen O'Dussa Montour is at Tyoga.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: That's at 6 p.m.

- 2:20SPEAKER_01: Walton will visit Harpersville Afton at 1.30.
- 2:24SPEAKER_01: And Norwich is going to also play on Saturday as well.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: They're going to be at Binghamton High School at 1.30.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: And then a game that Roger will go into a little more detail on.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: Maine Enwell is going to play at Shenango Forks on Saturday at 1.30.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: And rounding out the games on Saturday, Johnson City is going to be at Susquehanna Valley at 7 p.m.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: The following teams will have a bye.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: That's Oneana, Bainbridge Guildford, Owigo, and Corning Painted Post.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: As far as the eight-player division, there's only really two games this weekend.
- 2:56SPEAKER_01: There's one on Friday night, that's Unitigo Franklin at Green.
- 3:00SPEAKER_01: That's a 7 p.m.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: kickoff.
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: And then Saturday, you have Moravia at Weed Sport.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: They're out of section three.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: That'll be a 7 p.m.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: start.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: All other teams in the eight-player division are at a bye this weekend.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: In essence, their their season has come to an end.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: So that completes the first quarter.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Now we'll swap ends of the field for the second quarter.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: And Roger will review the Broome County teams in section four.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: Have at it, coach.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: All right, Tim.
- 3:28SPEAKER_00: Thank you very much.
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Uh well, you know, the season is winding down, and most of us uh weren't really sure there was going to be a season.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: A tip of the hat, obviously, to the administrators, the directors of athletics, the school superintendents, certainly all the coaches and the players for having to go through so many steps just to be able to get onto the football field, A to practice and b to compete.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: So we've seen a lot of things.
- 3:54SPEAKER_00: Uh unfortunately, again, with a fall season that was not had, uh the schedule was limited to uh the six games for the most part, but there's still some excitement.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: And I think uh what we've seen overall is kind of uh the way the population shift has gone in Broome County and our our southern tier.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: The large schools are few and far between now.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: What we've seen are the vast majority of schools competing in the class C, D, or eight-man football competitions.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: And with double A, you've got four schools, A3, and then three at Class B.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: All the rest C, D, or eight-man.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: So what you have is really 10 big schools in AA, A or B, and then you have uh the others, uh Class C 10 teams, nine in D, and then of course the eight-man competition, too.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: So the population shifts, and with that, some of the larger schools also have seen their population shift as well, and with that going down in classification.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: But some outstanding seasons, certainly, as we head to the final weekend, and um, I think it's going to be a very interesting wrap-up to this season as we do wind down on Friday and Saturday as we head into play.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: Unbeaten teams in the area include Corning at 5-0, also uh Spencer Bennett and Kander 5-0, uh, Delhi 4-0, and also Watkins Glenodessa Montor at 3-0, and of course, the cream of the crop as I see it in the area, with uh Maine Enwell and Shidanko Forks both unbeaten, and they will match up, as Tim mentioned, coming up on Saturday afternoon, which should be another showcase between the two really football giants.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: And again, we say giants, not in enrollment, because uh Maine Enwell is a B team, a C team, Shidanko Forks, but certainly in stature.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: What we've seen over the years, Maine Enwell and certainly forks going way back in their history, is it it doesn't matter what classification.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: And I thought it was a very interesting comment from Coach Dave Hogan of Forks, saying, you know, when they played Binghamton, they look forward to it.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Years past, you may say, My goodness, it's a smaller school playing a much larger school, but the forks has been so successful, it doesn't really matter.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: They'll play C, D, B, double A, and they don't care, they just want to take on teams and they are so good.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: So uh that has been uh kind of a shift as far as the enrollment and the classifications.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: As I said, there are still some unbeaten teams going into the final weekend of play, and uh it has been uh indeed a very interesting season.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: I find it very noteworthy that the cream of the crop teams like the Forks and Maine Endwell still are, despite all this that has gone on, the teams that are the best going into the last weekend of play, too.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: So that has certainly been a factor.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Uh, a lot of teams, I think, this year have been very evenly matched up, whether that is because of the shortened practice time, a drop in enrollment in some places, whatever it might be, but we've seen an awful lot of parity.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: A lot of teams are right around the 500 mark, maybe three wins or a couple losses or three losses.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: And so you've got a whole bunch of teams that are right even with each other, and then some standouts like the ones that I mentioned, the undefeated teams, and certainly the forks and main inwell at the top of the list.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: So it has been very interesting.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: And again, as we go to these last games of this season, I can't say regular season, I guess you'd say the irregular season because of what we had to go through.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: But uh a tip of the hat to everybody who has gotten it this far.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: A great experience for the players.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: And let's hope that as we wind down this spring type season, we'll be able to get back to normal come September of this upcoming year, Tim.
- 7:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I think you touched on it right there at the end, Roger.
- 7:41SPEAKER_01: The key is that the student athletes got to play, specifically the seniors.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: You know, they they got to play some of their last football.
- 7:48SPEAKER_01: Some of them are going to be going on to play at the collegiate level football, maybe some other sports.
- 7:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, like I said, the coaches got to coach, the parents got to watch.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: So, you know, one thing my dad told me when I was growing up is don't be, and this is a difficult thing right now because it's they're at the end of the season, but later on you kind of rationalize with this.
- 8:07SPEAKER_01: Don't be sad because the season that we had is over.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Be thankful that it happened.
- 8:13SPEAKER_01: And they have some of those memories that you and I talk about in the past, and quite often we talk about that because that's what you really take away from you know youth sports uh in general, and even you know, the the your high school years and college years, they're your formative years, but that's where a lot of lifelong memories are made.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: So that that's uh really a big thing as well.
- 8:34SPEAKER_01: One thing I want to end the second quarter with is uh any of you out there listening, or if you want to tell some of your friends that are interested in this, if you're somebody that likes to talk sports, and I mean any sports, we've got something set up for you.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: The Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame Museum, which is now located in a beautiful setting at the Oakdale Mall, is hosting talk.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: It's called Talk in Sports with Roger Neal.
- 9:03SPEAKER_01: Okay, that's gonna be April 22nd.
- 9:06SPEAKER_01: That's this Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: Again, that's at the Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame Museum located at the Oakdale Mall.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: This is an opportunity you don't want to miss.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: If you want to talk sports, somebody that's like a walking sports almanac or sports um trivia uh person, this is the guy you want to go.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: Talking sports with Roger Neal.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: So, Roger, that wraps up the second quarter and takes us into halftime.

- 10:19SPEAKER_01: Welcome to the games of the week with Coach Roger Neal.
- 10:23SPEAKER_01: Roger, what are some of the more interesting matchups we can expect in this final week?
- 10:27SPEAKER_00: Well, I think uh at the top of the list certainly has to be uh Shenango Forks playing host to Maine and well.
- 10:34SPEAKER_00: They have emerged as the top teams in the area.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: And quite frankly, if there were state playoffs, they certainly have the potential to win the state championships at their respective levels.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: How about this?
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: The Forks and Maine and Well both unbeaten, 5-0.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Shenango Forks has scored 202 points and given up just 15.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Now, even with the terrible math skills that I have over five games, 15 points, that's three points average per game.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: Lucas Scott has them, and he is as dominant a player as Section 4 has ever seen.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: He is a superb athlete and has made his mark defensively, certainly offensively, as it's not uh rare to see him carrying a couple defenders, another five or ten yards, and it takes a third to finish him off.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: He has been that dominant.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: So he has been a key.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: Michael Mancini certainly has keyed a lot of the offense for the I mean and well Spartans.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: They had to go to the wire to uh stay unbeaten going into this last weekend.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: They beat Yu He last weekend 28-23 with a fork shot out Vestal 40 to nothing.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: So I think that is going to be the premier game in the area coming up on Saturday.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: And uh as they have squared off in recent years uh several times, always a big game, but certainly with this pandemic shortened season, you know, all eyes will be focused, I think, on that and and what happens there.
- 11:53SPEAKER_00: But that should be one heck of a game.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: Maine Enwell's put up a ton of points, 252, and they've outscored the opponents 252 to 102.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: So they'll be matching up.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: And ironically, when the schedule first came out, Norwich was going to be playing Binghamton.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, but they worked things around so that uh, well, Norwich now hosts Binghamton, but before that, uh Binghamton was going to play the Forks, and Emmy was going to be playing Norwich.
- 12:18SPEAKER_00: So the team switched around, and now we'll see that battle for supremacy in the southern tier.
- 12:23SPEAKER_00: Another big game, Delhi playing host to Sydney.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: Del High goes in 4-0, Sydney 3-2.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: Delhi's had a tremendous season, trying to finish unbeaten.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: And uh another excellent game should unfold.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: Class C, Watkins Glen Hodesal Montour against Class D Tyoga.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: The Tigers are four and one.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: They fell to New York Bounty last week, 29-23.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: So they look to have uh uh a return to their excellent play in this one.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: And Watkins Glenodessa Montour 3-0.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: We talked a bit about the eight-man team, Spencer Vanetton, Kander finishing 5-0, and Lansing four and one for great seasons there.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: So, still some fine matchups, and it should be an exciting way to bring to a close this pandemic shortened season of Section 4 football, Tim.
- 13:08SPEAKER_01: I agree with you, Roger.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: Those are some excellent games to uh be watching as a as a fan, but also just as somebody that really appreciates the game.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: And it's kind of a a good way to wrap up this kind of crazy season that we've we've been going through with some really highly competitive games to end that.
- 13:27SPEAKER_01: So, with that, Roger, thank you for everything you've done for uh the cover four podcast, being our guest multiple times.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: We really appreciate that.
- 13:36SPEAKER_01: And hopefully you and I can get behind the mic uh in future seasons, like we we have been in these past seven or eight years, I think it is now, and get out there and actually start calling some games and bringing those games to our fans.
- 13:48SPEAKER_01: So thanks again, Roger, and you take care.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: And you too.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: And my pleasure.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: It's always fun to talk sports with you.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
